good stuff
Gotta install a 240V to your PC room now huh
Unplug one space heater to plug in another space heater /s
Hi I have a pretty old imac and im checking if they fixed iris gpu issue i was looking online and no one was talking about it and if its still here is there a way to fix it or not
who is biben
what do you have against bisexual benjamin
I mean, yea, this is inevitable since you're in the digital domain, so trash cables with bad rolloff will just drop pixel info outright
HDMI is prone to this shit too
dedicated 480V three phase service
charge your EV when you're not using your PC
what's wrong with that?
Literally all you need
Ice people arnt like you and have a million peripheral devices
Huh?
what
yeah, what
i'm not sure
I'm going to say nothing
Yeah.
I should fix my leaky laptop
Well, my new one is coming soon
I should just kill the old one
Shot gun it
why is a laptop leaking
Uh
laptops should not leak
Idk I've had many fluid incidents
pee
It's probably hydrualic oil
so it's external spillage rather than some dumb watercooled laptop
Most likely hydrualic oil tbh
wonder how win 11 would be on a first gen i5 laptop
I swear, every regular in here is a proper fucking technological misfit
myself included
gotta clear out my old laptops
Yeah and it sits in my laptop
It might also be like
Heavy metal fluid lol
Like super contaminated waste water
you should probably deal with it
Because I was helping my dad on site
It's sitting on a towel right now lol
I'll be getting a new laptop soon so I'm not really bothering
crack it open and clean it
Who would win me or my devices.
double ko
just get a dedicated work machine, then do whatever on the gaming rig
that would mean buying another 3090!
he doesn't need a 3090 to code
from what i have read he needs a 3090 for job stuff
are you self employed or something?
just wondering why MS don't supply hardware
eh just use their hardware and bill them for the time it takes
how are you getting any work done with the current machine situation lol
is that in productivity or games
I'm looking forward to the new issues with the MSI board
from what i saw it should be <1% in games
yjsy
that's a kinda dinky looking psu
like a 550w?
ah nice
my stupid unifi AP is still refusing to connect to my network even though it's connected
"isolated"
fuck ubiquiti
maybe the person that mkes the firmware is the same potted plant dude
i doubt that
weird shit happens with pending and online banking, would just ignore it and see what gets delivered, then check your bank on monday and it'll probably have been charged and you can complain to get priority refunded
sometimes people ship without the GPU in
so I'd def check that
I'd expect they'll give instructions
For prebuilts I always recommend at the minimum, take out the gpu and ram. Then reseat it yourself
Reseat connectors on any SSD/HDD
And reseat the Mobo PSU cable and CPU PSU cable on the main board
Those tend to get loosy goosy during shipment or if a tech misses it
@hardy sparrow
Yep
That's standard with any conputers
If you plug into the motherboard you won't be using the GPU for monitor out
And if you have AMD, you won't have output at all
(yes I know APUs a thing shush)
she ordered 12600k/3080 iirc
well still the same, you dont wanna game on an intel igpu when you have a nice 3080 lmfao
yeah, will suggest she uses dp over hdmi too
running p95 stress test and 1080p youtube on this first gen i5 in win 10, not skipping a beat. i think updating the bios solved the overheat shut down issue... i think
gallons of liquid down the drain
ideal for the local water table
gallons upon gallons of contaminated coolant poured directly into the drain
yeah
Gonna be a master at this by the time the computer is fully working
So did you buy a different mobo then or is this yet another RMA coming in
can pop a D15 on now
I guess next time have a Hyper212 as a test bench to make sure stuff isnt fucked before committing to installing the whole loop heh
I own the Kamvas plus which is a 2k version, it's pretty solid
I have a dh15 with black fans
"I'm friends with my dad" wholesome
poor ice 😦
delicious black

that is a lot less wholesome than I thought
i have to say i'm very satisfied with my current cooler 😄
nobody will ever look in my case, idc

@tame fulcrum did it break yet
so you're leaving it 5 days?
"Of particular interest, the Omicron variant was found to survive on plastic for 193.5 hours"
longer even
a week then
so what are the chances someone coughed on it?
and why would you buy computer parts from a store that does that o_O
i coughed on it
lick's ice's box
-gets out a bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol-
-sprays the motherboard, ice's box, and speed's tongue-
What kind of laptop would you guys recommend for FFXIV w/ shaders?
i think it's funny that my motherboard will boot without a monitor connected but it'll shine a ridiculously bright white LED letting me know it didn't detect the screen
I got annoyed by the stupid light on mine and knocked it off with a screwdiver
SMD LEDs btfo
Poggers
I was wondering why the fuck my friends computer was thermal shutdown constantly
And lile
Jfc the hotplate on his 212 is so warped I could put soup in it
what's it for?
and as I kinda figured
there really isn't much of an aesthetic difference between that motherboard and the old one
fingers crossed it solves your issues!
(that is one weird looking video card brace)
is your keyboard turning yellow O_o
it looks good
and by coincidence you got the one with my favorite MSI shroud hahaha
the RGB dragon looks so cool ^^
RGB fans are great

https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-radeon-rx-6900-xt-gv-r69xtgaming-oc-16gd/p/N82E16814932414 $699.99
It's on backorder with 08/16 as ETA.
EDIT: It's in stock.
699
These duckers were going for 2k earlier this year
$700? shit
nearly worth considering buying amd at that price
so, snagged an old 128GB M.2 ssd from an old laptop at work like, 6+ months ago
and only just got around to plugging it in
its barely been used, like ever, im very confused
too bad its only a 128gb,
well a ssd is an ssd, and my motherboard had a free slot 😄
only reason i would have been able to take it, is it came from a decommissioned laptop, so either, it was replaced on warranty then basically never used (may have been a spare they had lying around for ages)
or the firmware is fucked and reporting wrong data, which is possible
since the temp sensor is stuck at 50 C constantly
are you sure it isn't just running at 50c
I mean, also consider it might be both since it came out of a shitty laptop
probably an earlier gen SSD with no heatsink
welcome to your PC
when your custom builder thinks you can't even press a power button without help
time to go to the tool store and get one
you're gonna be a construction worker by the time you're done
ooh you bought from awd it
i was on the forum of one of the owners before they opened that store about 17 years ago

those boxes aren't empty?
just thinking they might have installed the bits in the case and provided the product boxes if you bought as a pre built. slotting the gpu in is fair enough, should give you some vague instructions in that little pamphlet
Saffron for tech mentor
oh, yeah, I would leave the GPU un mounted if I was shipping a PC to someone
that's a good way to have your shit arrive broken
wait, it looks like they did install the GPU
so what the hell did they leave in the boxes, the manuals?
probably
looks like you should be good to go then
the only cable that shouldn't be installed out of the box is the power cable, if there are any missing cables inside the box that's a builder problem
those expanding bags are designed to support video card in transit, just gotta remove them
Too many idiots try to plug into the integrated
you'd think all the extra accessories would be chucked into a single box but I guess not in this case
saves them recycling the extra boxes ig
Makes sense in case you want to add stuff later
yeah, that's the
strategy, make the customer throw away all the trash

can help slightly when reselling parts too
Well it's also the customer's property
And might be needed to send back specific parts etc
wrong, the objectively fastest way to get correct answers is to post the wrong one and wait
r/pcmasterrace
So, after 15 years I am back in the Hall of Fame, but I am stuck at #19 for Timespy.
Upgraded my power supply to a EVGA NOVA 1600 to feed a pair of 6950XT's. They would not run at stock speeds with my old 1200 watt Corsair.
When I start testing, its aproaching pulling1200 watts from the wall...
Maybe I just did that

wish I'd shorted nvda back in december
nvda boutta go back in the dumpster
What are you needing it for
yes
yeah, you can just unscrew those by hand
depends how torqued they are
also it looks like you could use a knife to undo them, or anything slim
They should only be finger tight
i always tighten mine a lot
Girl grab a nail file
with a ph2
y doe
you're not shooting your PC into space, it doesn't need to be welded tight
sure it does
🅱️ls
the only thing I'm going to do special on my next case is add some air-tight seam fill to the edges so the air doesn't get sucked in through any gaps
electric tape
can use gasket tape, it's cheap as hell
electric tape 😩
where's your sense of aesthetics
I want to make a nice case that looks like furniture
not some annoying blingy shitbox
give it a wiggle
harder
lewd
it's probably spray-in polyurethane, you have to like, peel it off
nah they're expanding
Saffron just pull it up
you activate em and whack the door on
Saffron in tech getting 'em out for the nerds
I've managed to burn myself on it
Shipping my old gaming PC to my youngest. I used InstaPak to avoid damaging the GPU - EVGA GTX 1080ti Hybrid from shipping to another country. It will arrive in 2 months by summer time.
Itll be tight but you can just pull it up
Nope
It's pretty much used
Yeeetus feetus deletus
You cant
It's a chemical bag
That you basically pop
And it fills with shiz
I'm
step 1: install linux
Yeah it should
No os
Perfect
tech mentor sarah
@modest moss
pull
it's supposed to be, what good is packing material if it's loose lmao
It's because when you install the pak, it inflates and fills the cavity
Sarah can you teach me how to change my oil
just use nothing if it doesn't conform to what you're protecting
just have a wrench in your car and do it in a parking lot lmao 6head
IF YOU DIDN'T DRIVE A TRUCK I WOULD
Actually trucks are so much easier
I'm glad we have a toyota that doesn't need oil
It does
apparently the dealer notes said there's no heat shield on the oil pan near the exhaust manifold, which... uh... ❓ ❓ ❓
dunno how they decided it's now a problem after 11 years lmao

built different
that is not a graphics card
My wife said they check the oil with the mot every year and tell her if it needs more oil
that's literally open space
oh yeah, so the oil lamp triggered because I was down 1.5 quarts, there was still oil in the sump but it wasn't pretty
@hardy sparrow if you really want dm VC me and point the camera at the PC. I can do a visual on the PC
Those are the extra gpu power bits it's fine probably
I can easily suss out anything out of place
Yes fine
Yeah that's fine
Is that a vision card?
Behind
Yeah that's a vision card
🅱️ls no
i bought some inexpensive smol be quiet tower for gf's itx build but the retention mechanism is awful, feels like no clamping force at all
does it need enough force to bend the board if it's smol and has no weight
100%
Dw extra cables
it was this one
forgot you also tighten your screws like it's part of a final launch sequence to mars

Yep.
I'm kinda
Saffron wants all the rgb she might buy more later
Weirded out by the case
I'm tired and there's something off about it
And I can't really put a finger on why
It's a lian li iirc
o11 air mini
Yes it's a weird wannabe cube but not a cube
it's not aesthetic with that secondary compartment for the PSU
I'm sooo tired lmfao
They should have extended the mesh over the whole front
@modest moss

yeah, I think that would make it a little more aesthetic
it's just the weird shape and proportions
It's mostly the fact that the o11/mini is meant for water-cooling or aio
But at the end of the day a pc should be hidden so who cares
And this has that..thing
Which is very small
With aio or water-cooling it'll fill the case out more
That cooler will be fine it's only a 12600k
Oh I'm sure, it's just why the case is kinda dunky
Saffron is the biggest chad in tech, came in here and planned and ordered a build within like 2hrs
I have an o11 mini or two, but it's reserved for water cooling builds or builds with more then 3 ssds
there's no way to dissipate 1200W with air cooling effectively lmao
None of the usual procrastination for a week
you need way more surface area and thermal mass to stabilize temps
don't buy trashy components

isn't raz still researching parts lmao
Is that why transformers are passively cooled
Raz has a fine pc just ignore him

That’s my truck
Take the w woman
transformers are also allowed to run at above-boiling temperatures since they're oil cooled
and they don't fuck off and release the magic smoke when they get hot
that's for flashback
Transformers can be air or oil cooled
yeah, you only need to use that slot specifically if you want to update bios
Good god that motherboard
It's gigabyte it'll be fine
they can be air cooled but the super high power ones aren't
dual displayport pog
not gonna find a 14kV 3p transformer with a 120mm fan on it
Yeah but you said 1200w can’t be air cooled
This is what I mean by weird OEM boards
it can't be in a 2L displacement lmao
if you don't give a shit about the surface temps sure, you can air cool it
Pretty sure plenty of 1200w PSUs exist that are air cooled
it's the CPU and GPU where temps actually matter
although you can smoke a 1200W PSU if you let the mosfets hit 95C too
I ran a dual 580 setup with a 990X under air and it held up fine was pulling about 900 from the wall at times
I had a 480 on air and it was running 75C idle
Mosfets are designed to run that hot
air cooling stops being efficient after a point
They’re all passively cooled on motherboards and regularly run that hot
75C is fine for components that don't have thermal noise sensitivity, CPUs/GPUs do
especially with OCs
for purely passive components (like transformers), it doesn't matter because you don't care that the surface temp is 250C
as long as it doesn't melt it's gucci
run a CPU at 250C and you're in for a bad time
I just looked it up they have a thermal ceiling of up to 180c
then curve it more
the original premise was "why can't you air cool 1200W" and the problem is a function of surface area, I can dissipate 1200W over 65 square meters no problem
Okay but mosfets in consumer electronics regularly get to upwards of 100c
it's not ideal to run them that high
It’s completely fine
it's within the design envelope but still not ideal
??? It’s just over half of its max operating temperature
If it wasn’t safe to do it then why do all of them run as hot as they do
didn't say it was unsafe
You certainly implied it lol
but there's a separation between high power mosfets like PSUs and VRMs and transistors
Okay I’m talking about bog standard chokes here
They are entirely safe to operate at that temperature and will last many years
The only time it would cause an issue is if it heat soaked other components near them but I’m pretty sure engineers solved that or we’d have a bigger issue on our hands
Hence the use of heat spreaders
all a function of surface area
air cooling makes for annoying thermal management because you can only dissipate so much heat from a given volume of heatsink fins, and for VRMs where they can run at high temps it doesn't matter too much
baking your poor CPU at 95C because Tjmax is 105C is... not nice to your hardware at all
That has nothing to do with mosfets
that's because they got conflated somehow
the original proposition was "normalize air cooling PCs again", when 1200W PC heat loads have dumb surface area requirements to keep the temps in a reasonable range
You’re over thinking this, a component that is designed to operate upwards of 180c is perfectly fine running at 90c
water cooling is just more efficient per unit volume
Water cooling still runs into surface area issues too, it only removes the heat from the radiator it’s just able to do it over a larger area but even water cooling can reach a limit hence why AIO units in single or dual configurations don’t particularly perform that well at higher thermal limits
Hank how is your Razer Deathadder V2 doing these days?
Somehow the rubber of my mouse wheel separated from the mouse wheel itself so if i scroll gently, i am moving the rubber but not the wheel

maybe install the right version of windows
maybe get rid of anime
it'll look better after you go to nvidia and get gpu drivers
Looks kinda messed up ngl
that's because the brightness is set to eye-searing fuckbright out of the box
bring the brightness down and the black level will settle
it'll be fine
you can do a lot of hardware-based calibration with the OSD
you need to set the brightness to a level where black is actually black
fuck outta here with "muh 3.5 gamma"
You need a probe to actually calibrate a monitor
don't forget things like going to the gigabyte site for chipset drivers and so on
you can do a pretty good job with the OSD and your eye
you just need real reference screens
pure black and pure white with greyscale chips

It will grab quite a few by itself. You can do the rest after if you want
Doesn't really matter
Should activate when you connect to interwebs
but why, you need an account for hwid to get a legit free license
not with winactivate
it needs your windows 10 key, which it converts to windows 11 key and deactivates the old key
if you use insider builds it gives you a provisional key that's valid as long as you're using insider builds
but you need a valid key to begin with
so you can use your 10 key to activate windows, switch to insider builds, and then use that key forever

fine
if there are no ! then I'd roll with it probably?
you might want chipset/storage whatever
saffy don't use the windows graphics driver, go to nvidia.com and get it there
MSI drivers :chad:
yeah, but MS also eats your old key when you "upgrade" for free
ever tried to go back to the old key?
no, like, the activation key for, say, 8 becomes a 10 key when you upgrade through the upgrade program
so if you reinstall 8 that key won't work anymore
you can carry a key forward forever because it's tied to your MS account, yeah, but once you upgrade it it's considered a valid key for whatever version it upgraded to
yeah, because the edge case of going back is pretty rare
but the early days of every new MS release are usually fraught with buyer's remorse
so if you want to go back to 10 from 11 it's... not easy if you have an upgrade key
That's heat
hot electronics will smell as the plastic cover bakes off the volatile components
it stops after a while
burned electronics have a very distinct smell
The blue smoke
the magic smoke that makes rocks smart
definitely not, its cool to the touch, and trying to stress the SSD, the temp stat doesn't ever budge, at all,
i have drive monitoring setup, the temp stat has been the same since it was installed 4 hours ago, it logs data every 5 minutes and not a single one has budged from 50 C,
and yeah, no heatsink, its only a SATA M.2 drive, they dont generate much heat anyway .
ran a bunch of tests on it, its 100% sound, soo imma use it for some random crap and assume the temp SMART stat is just wrong
well, iCUE is bloated garbage, so whats new 😛
i refuse to install it for my KB
"I have a legend in my hands: a pre-production Bitblaze Titan (opens in new tab) laptop based on the Baikal-M processor is ready," said Yana Brush, commercial director of Prombit, the company behind Bitblaze, in a blog post (opens in new tab). "A very decent built quality, thin aluminum case, light weight. I have tested some mainstream software applications: office programs and YouTube. Works great, lasts five hours on the battery. We continue testing in various workloads, getting ready for the official release."
Guys guys ... it can WATCH YOUTUBE
Nah it looks like a mid 10s thinkpad
The heart of the Titan is the Baikal-M1 SoC, which uses eight outdated Arm Cortex-A57 cores operating at 1.50 GHz and outfitted with an 8MB L3 cache accompanied by an eight-cluster Arm Mali-T628 GPU with two display pipelines. The Cortex-A57 first appeared in a commercial product in 2015, whereas the Mali-T628 (Midgard 2nd Gen) has been around since 2014. The Baikal-M1 is made by TSMC using one of its 28nm-class nodes.
They claim the production version will look like this
They are correct though, if they just need to render websites and watch Youtube, that will work. (It will run Linux)
Will TSMC supply them with CPUs though? I thought there was a boycott
Or did they source a glut of these older CPUs
everything enabled?
also all his messages seem gone again, I guess he yeeted himself like he did before
Updated bios?
yeah spend 10k and get the same performance as a 2k pc
So you finally ditched for a completely new board huh. Are you going to try to flip the original one then?
ugh
MUST HOLD OUT FOR DDR5
11th gen, ew
have you stressed those nvmes yet?
This is a streaming question if anyone can answer, I’d really appreciate it (please @ me)! When I have Streamlabs on one monitor and FFXIV on the other and I click on the other monitor, the FFXIV screen will blink out of Streamlabs for a good 2 seconds, can anyone tell me how I can get around this?
Oh I didn’t think of that! I’ll try that later on today!
HA
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
son of a
i moved the unifi AP inside because it kept disconnecting from my 'dream machine'
it's only like 20ft from the fucking thing now, straight line of sight
I have to say, I'm impressed. Ubiquiti finally did it.
When I was in college I lived in a small neighborhood surrounded by apartment buildings so the wifi situation was brutal. I bought a random belkin thingy from target and it started boot looping immediately after i plugged it in lol.
somehow this piece of crap behaves worse.
Techlink or LTT had a review of the new unifi stuff recently, I didn't watch it yet though
since i have the stupid thing indoors now i'll just run a long ethernet cable to it, but my best guess is that the wifi chipset cooked itself
that always seems to make wifi unreliable
Yeah my 5G on my router has been iffy for awhile, need to get around to buying a new one
any issues yet?
That worked like a charm! Thank you!!
@tame fulcrum fix my windows ms boy
Getting this on shutdown
"task host is stopping background tasks"
And it doesn't finish just goes back to login
Fix it
if you keep feeding your chip more and more power you're gonna fry something. your chip may be water cooled but your VRMs aren't sooo
runs in unigine benchmark so much better than my old 1060
gonna try out cyberpunk
its probably the highest spec game i have to test
It'll be good at 1080p
it plays skyrim special edition maxed out 60 fps
still dowloading cp2077
gonna mess with it now, was watching tv with fam
you mean they kinked out the bugs? ive only played it a bit. i heard the bugs were terrible on ps4 so i bought it for pc on gog
at release it was garbage, unplayable pretty much
they fixed a lot, when I played it a few months later it was like, Fallout New Vegas level of glitchy
so not perfect but pretty playable
Like everything else, YMMV. To few issues I had with the ps4 version dealt with what I suspected were memory leaks because I’d randomly crash to the home screen
Never at the same spot, or same length of time playing
when was the last major update? hmm
I installed it to test this new pc, didn't glitch in the first uh, 30 mins
yeah i felt the same way. jsut endless running and gunning
so. computer is happy now?
@deep sapphire truck life baby
🛻
yay!
to everything technology related today (the things, not the people) that is deciding to give me hell
also, why's a 1 pack of 15ft ethernet cables cost $7.35 and a 10 pack costs $29.32
this makes me want the 10 pack
jerks.
ooo they have a braided one for $8.79
progrmaming in a sandbox?
I don't think this was what they had in mind when they spoke about sandboxing
there's a lot to unpack in this picture
I see a CRT TV, and an iBook
and that's a mac pro, oddly enough
gangsta recognize gangsta
Tested out cyberpunk with my rx 6600 xt. 50-60 fps on ultra, 40-45 with ray tracing
smh gta gamer spotted
gta or saints row?
gta
i got a random chat message from a redditor asking for help because they have the same case I do... and nobody else does lol
apparently they bought it from a place that does custom pre-builts. GG.
were you able to help?
at that moment, reddit user's computer imploded
was it relating to the top supposed to open up
I chose an Inwin 915 case for my new build. As you can see, the top opens when it wakes, and closes when it goes to sleep! I turned off the sound because it was too noisy, but that's for the best.. the motor sounds a little cheesy lol.
Inb4 plastic gears?
I'm not sure what attaches the belt to the rails the top slides up and down on
also, compared to a nice o11d
the cable management accommodations are kinda rudimentary
it's like THERE'S HOLES IN THE METAL YOU CAN RUN CABLES THROUGH
there are a couple distro plates that fit it
hahhahaaa
i wanna see
LOL
.
when is a gundam gonna show up in tekken
thank you windows
wasted 40 mins troubleshooting, had to revert the update causing insanely high cpu usage
Still a better day then i had (mum's pc started the day with a red screen of death. Ended with 670 less moneys)
red screen of death o_O
f
fuck windows
i only use windows on my toy computer
I am not saying it's a toy OS, but that I much prefer not having to rely on Windows!
if I don't have to worry about it ruining my day, it's actually pretty ok
yeaaah
it just potentially ruined 1 day worth of studying for me
and i probably wont even be able to attend my friend's xiv wedding
oh no 😦
once this gets fixed im going out of my way to disable updates
and bloatware
fuck you too dell
i think i'll pick gridania hehe i like kan-e-senna :]
and the town is cute and the staff is pretty
Isn't that just an anti virus scan
probably
yes it is an antivirus software
the issue i had was that it had high cpu usage on basically anything and everything
so even if it was scanning it wouldn't be taking that much cpu
Iirc its a bug
how long did it go on?
my high cpu usage crap? i had to reinstall windows
it wasn't just the scan, chrome for some reason took 90% cpu usage too
same for discord
so after trying to revert the windows update and it didn't work, i just had to do a clean reinstall of windows from cloud
kinda bullcrap that i wasted a day of studying over this
weird
if I were in your shoes I'd want the same. geez.
I'm glad to hear that! Finally got the build working the way you wanted ^^
that 365w thing is ridiculous hahaha
random /r/battlestations post
they need to nudge their racing sim setup forward a little so they can slide that bench seat behind it
passenger seats!
now that I think about it, more sims should work that way
0/10 no steel battalion controller
that is a wild looking chairr
@deep sapphire 2 think i shouldve just changed my air filter sooner. thing is factory black and it looked fine but I took it out and that thing was caked in duststorm. now the engine runs fine
Most people don’t even bother with them lmao
noticed a huge diff once I turned the truck on because that thing was like "AIRFLOW???"
SUCC
$90 for a filter though eugh
now it's time to spend $6546.70 on a supercharger
Lol
Air filters usually don’t cost that much though
Just do what I do. But the cabin air filter and then leave it sitting on a shelf for 2 years
gotta pay for that sweet K&N name bro
they're cold air intake reusable ones so I could've just cleaned it but the condition was a bit bad + its over a decade old so meh
Haha those are terrible
it's terrible to try and clean ya
I did end up buying an IAC valve the other day and it already shipped so I guess I'll just install it instead of gettin a refund

Watching the Wan show from the past week. Linus going over some drama some lady tried to start, big oof
She basically assumes the worst in people and fabricated some entire scenario about Linus and so he aired out all the communications etc. to show nothing happened and the lady just implicitly read the worst possible reading of a situation at every turn
that SexyCyborg chick?
Yeah
I get that being a woman in tech she probably has ran into that stuff before, but given Linus attitude over the years i dont know why you wouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt
i like her. she has a weird top. the quests were fun though.
i wonder how much of the awkwardness women in tech experience is guys being afraid to fraternize with women because of exactly that sorta thing though
idk exactly where i'm going with that one
I think it's best to not say anything to anyone that could be deemed 'inappropriate'
lol we had a thing about harassment at work recently that was entirely in a legal fashion and one of their examples was along the lines of "I thought it was ok because they dress like a biker"
The fear’s definitely there, though I have the benefit of a team which has like... 20-30% women? And they’re all either extroverted or seasoned so it’s less anxiety inducing.
and the lawyer dude was like
idk how to explain this
something about dressing professional being treated differently?
I countered with "I'd treat the biker person the same as anyone else I work with" lol
Clothing does not exactly signify intent is the sentence I came up with.
yeah context is
context is a pain
for the most part I prefer to associate with people who aren't going to have their hand in their pocket on the trigger of a can of pepper spray because i'm in their presence, if that makes sense
ahh so the story from the other person with the same case I have for a computer
they bought theirs as a prebuilt from memory express o_O with a threadripper and a 2070
i hate to think what that must've cost XD
Unfortunately it's probably both. So they get handful of bad experiences and then no good ones to offset bc nobody wants to get Slapped
yup
idk exactly how the social dynamic on my team at work is anymore
but back when I worked in the office i think 1/4 of our group was women (writing software, yes)
i'm not aware of any social issues in our team
but it is a team of programmers so there's plenty of cases of like
things you could point and laugh at
interviews are cringe city
that's the
"I don't want to ever see behidn this door again" feeling isn't it
you have a commander thingy right?
you can buy adapters and just plug all your rgb into it
yea ^^ that's how i run my strimer stuff lmao
i've been meaning to hook my case's front led strip into it too, just haven't yet.
i used these, kind of a ripoff but they definitely got the job done
i'm sure you could find something cheap and similar on ebay too
would anyone have a nice recommendation for a flashlight that can be recharged via usb?
yo kya did you post that one vid where the guy got a video player working on an oldschool system
trying to find it so I can send it to a bud and i forgot what the title is lmao
nvm I scrolled 5 fucking miles and found it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e0fRKHG7Hk
I use a Thrunite TN12 for the past five years. I just upgraded to the pro for the same price
oh THAT
So you could pick up the pro and be fine
thanks sarah
One of our drivers when I worked delivery used a deer spotting lamp to look for house numbers. Ppl thought he was the cops half the time
LMFAO
I was out using my 328432 lumen light in my backyard lookin for spiders so I'm surprised none of the neighbors were suspicious
Was like 2 million candlepower or something
I have a usb lantern that I charged u pwhen I got it. just checked it the other day and it was dead -sigh- wtf'
Lol
Does it have a nightlight mode and you accidentally left that on?
I have a custom lighting system for the walk out patio that just turns the backyard into a military installion thing
It's so bright and my neighbors hate it
LOL
I haven't used my OKW at night but I should try
ya know I don't care about those things
It's just like 40 fucking led bulbs on a large panel
but the 'motion activated' lights irritate me
The tn12 has like a few modes, cycle from low to high and the back button goes to turbo
Has firefly mode, but I don't use it
this is what I want on a whole property, except also RGB
that way it lights up bright white, then the PA comes on "WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOME I HOPE YOU'RE READY TO DIE" and then it starts flashing RGB or red
3: Blind a jogger from 500 meters?
yes
ME
LOL
bicyclers especially
i'm the neighbor that has outdoor lights and just leaves them on 24/7
los angeles hates him!
my other neighbhor did that
I hope its not cloudy tomorrow night, the meteor showers are peak this weekend
there are multiple reasons i do that
but the neighbhor across from me shot the lights out with a pellet gun
but one of the bigger ones is
i don't have to do that whole stupid dusk-to-dawn sensor thing if I'm not home
the damn light's just always on whether i'm here or not
I have smart home shit for that
but i don't need it
this means war
I got enough cameras and train horns lol
besides
oh yeah that reminds me I want to put a train horn on my truck
the bulb next to my front door takes like 15w
are yours air or electric
Some motherfucker tried breaking into my shed and got flashbanged by the light panel and air hornd
i dont wanna deal with putting air in htere for one but idk if the electric ones are decent
any significant amount of smarthome fuckery is going to use that much at least
funniest shit
sooo
mines air, Its attached to my compressor line lmfao
the other day this truck next to me in traffic tapped their horn
shits so fucking loud
You set up a flashbang trap in your shed?
I liked that guy's horn
bro I can put a fucking klaxon on my truck
I can only imagine that guy when he ran away stumbling was like WTF
like I said 40 led bulbs in a panel
HE RAN INTO THE FENCE AND WE HAD TO CALL AN AMBULANCE
BECAUSE HE KNOCKED HIMSELF OUT
LMFAO
And it's tied to a motion-sensor in the shed I take it?
every day somebody has a honking fight in front of my house because they were in the outer lane making a left turn and the person in the inner lane drifted out and sent them into the shoulder
EVERY FUCKING DAY
like 3 times a day at least
Hall effect sensor on all the doors
the people who like lay on the horn
Much more reliable
Ambulance with a nice police escort for trying to rob you? /s
make me wanna walk out there with some random shit and chuck it at their car
and low tech
I’m genuinely wondering if you can get sued by that guy breaking in your shed
no
CARTHAGE - Vintage Chrysler air raid siren (repowered with replacement motor) in collection of Ken Eder, demonstrated at annual Ederville festival. Mounted on a 1969 Ford/John Bean fire engine that served Snow Camp, NC.
i want this
especially if it's locked
Just as long as you remember to turn it off before you enter the shed rite
like you can straight up say
"it's locked because it's not safe for public access" or some shit. done.
BT presense
also like the 15 no trepassing signs around my yard
If im in the area or tap my phone on the door, it deactivates the sensor
also light trap is not active in the morning
Why go through the trouble of setting it up anyway?
Althought I want to work on it not relying on a chinese esp32 lol
because I store thousands of dollars of equipment in my home? lmfao
i remember when I was looking into an alarm system and cameras and stuff
it always sparked these discussions of like
things you do to keep someone from defeating it
it sounds like sarah actually did those things
Im also in EE and want to specialize into IOT smart devices, so this is just my excuse to do things
bruh half the options on the market are either too high power or way too complicated to set up
insurance
like Shinon suggested motion sensor right? thats way too complicated
but insurance never covers enough 😦
Half of my brain is saying that’s cool but the other half is on the but what if it fails/actually harms someone and they can sue you
all run on 5v
the problem with off-the-shelf security equipment is literally all of it is made by shady ass chinese companies
EVERY LAST THING
try to sue me when you have multiple warnings for trepassing and caught on camera for breaking and entering
especiallyt he cameras
they're all like dahua/hikvision/whatever the fuck
and every security department has a bulletin telling you nto to buy that shit
Hikvision but reflashed to FOSS
and that you';re not allowed to connect your work laptop to the same network that has that stuff on it
gud lol
also can you gimme links to open source goodness that runs on particular cameras cuz i want it
-looks suspiciously at his chinese cams-
the sad thing is that stuff works fucking well
rock solid reliable
$50 chinese cam. Works great. Sure the webpage thinks you should use IE5.5
$250 nest cam: only works with their bullshit app. constantly has wifi issues.
but its smart. and you get to subscribe to our $10 cloud fee
im mostly using wyzze cams for security
just an example
as there are SOOOOOOO many wyze hacks
lol I use my own cables
all of them are just POE : P
and they connect to a seperate network run by old linksys routers
hmm
wyze cams don't have ethernet ports
unless you;'re using some kinda ethernet to usb adapter?
like I said my own cables lmfao
all it is is taking the conductors out from cat to usb
That line is not like standard poe its just 6v
I dont think I can call it poe even because each pair is just a postive/neg
That's how I also run the hall effects and stuff
4 pairs, 4 lines
works pretty well for LV and hasnt given me too many issues if the run is short
