twilit wadi
#

I'll check next time I play with HWMonitor, it could also simply be the heatwave ?

deep sapphire
hard drift
#

More than likely

#

It’ll likely be fine most people just overworry

twilit wadi
#

ahah you don't agree ^^

deep sapphire
#

if your cooling cant handle an ambient temp of 30c or more its not very good in the first place

#

just check your temps when you get a chance

deep sapphire
#

if its idling at 50-60c and under load gets high 90s low 100s yes you have a cooling issue

hard drift
#

Also make sure you’re not reading junction

#

Junction will usually be way hotter

twilit wadi
deep sapphire
#

the larger the fan, fan motor and to lesser extent fan blade design can impact noise

#

if you are using the stock cooler (what came with the processor) they are usually louder

hard drift
#

turn off zero rpm mode

twilit wadi
twilit wadi
umbral moss
#

the problem is that your GPU gets to be that hot, so you want to bring up the fan speed to try to delay that

#

I'm reading this thread on OCN from a guy who upgraded his GPU to a 3080 and he's arguing with the people trying to help him figure out why his waterblock isn't cooling the 3080 as well as his old 1080

#

I don't know why people ask for help and then tell the people that are helping that they're wrong haha

twilit wadi
#

lol that's common sense

#

it's like the more advanced cpu and gpu you have, the more the supply unit needs to be big

#

if I'm not making a noobish mistake

#

:3

jaunty light
umbral moss
#

it's funny because the guy is using like, ultra silent 1500 rpm fans that were barely keeping his old card in check

#

"my water temp is also going up" "how can you tell?" "I put my hand on the radiator"

#

this whole thread is just a dumpster fire

twilit wadi
#

ask for advices -> proceeds to not listen -> blame people trying to help for not helping

#

typical

#

xD

umbral moss
#

too bad it's a nissan so it won't be good until you replace all the OE parts with aftermarket upgrades

agile roost
#

Apple is taking a page out of immerse and using ear pics to tailor fit the listening experience

jaunty light
#

the back is nice but the front is ugly

#

BASE PRICE $51,015

#

HAHA

umbral moss
#

right in line with the supra

#

which is uglier and shittier

#

I'm really tilted that they took the excellent mk IV design and turned it into some kind of weird ugly alfa 4c clone with an eraser smudge over the front fascia

jaunty light
#

at least the "other" model is 40k but that's still too expensive for like anyone that buys a Z

umbral moss
#

I think the days of buying a muscle car for $20k are gone, my guy

jaunty light
#

but yea the supra suck

umbral moss
#

it's not 1999 anymore

#

the fact there are even muscle cars to buy is a miracle

#

the companies could easily just make shitty SUVs for the rest of eternity

umbral moss
# jaunty light but yea the supra suck

it's sad because the only reason the supra exists is because toyoda himself got involved and demanded the engineering team develop a performance coupe

#

but they have no competent Fun Car engineers on staff so they had to ask BMW for help wearycarby

jaunty light
#

I just wanna buy a GT-R but i dont make 500k a year

#

😔

umbral moss
#

give me that 74 N EV that hyundai was hyping

#

let me live in the shitty cyberpunk future with proper cyberpunk vehicles

jaunty light
#

if I found a good condition '16 GT-R for like 70k (haha never 2014s still go for 100k+) maybe I guess

#

i don't like cars enough to pay a mortgage on one though

jaunty light
umbral moss
#

I forgot which car company said they were only going to use soft interfaces for stuff that doesn't matter, like GPS

#

but for things like the radio and AC controls they wanted to stick to hard interfaces

jaunty light
#

like I know this shit probably blows ass and breaks constantly because 80s but it looks sweet

umbral moss
#

that's the kind of interior I'm looking for pogianger

jaunty light
#

i was kinda hoping someone with enough money or even CDPR would make a oneoff version of the quadra 66 or something

umbral moss
#

the coyote pogianger

jaunty light
#

the interior is so fucking cool

odd sand
#

Looks like they were trying to do a more classic 70s/80s from grill for the 370Z

umbral moss
#

the quadra drives like shit though

jaunty light
#

yokes suck but yeah

umbral moss
#

the coyote and its unmodified version are better cars

jaunty light
#

i always used the avenger because it looked cool but driving was kinda ass

umbral moss
#

although the coyote is basically cheating in any driving challenges because it sticks to the road like fucking glue

jaunty light
#

yeah if i had to actually drive i would use the coyote because handling seemed broke

umbral moss
#

even the unmodified version is breddy gud

#

mostly because it doesn't have stupid amounts of power so it doesn't yeet itself into walls with a tap on the throttle

#

funny that the coyote is basically a supra clone though

hard drift
umbral moss
#

they can be if they're large diameter and low static pressure

#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

both of those properties also correspond to his shitty performance when he added more heat to his loop

#

OP claims his temps went from 30C under load to 55-60C

#

so, uh

#

yeah

#

he chose shitty fans that can't keep up with his heat load

sly elk
#

you were saying?

#

i'm sure that buying a dodge with 130k miles from a random noname used car lot is the same as lighting that money on fire or hookers or whatever

#

but it is possible!

sly elk
#

lol

#

those do have the 5.7 v8

#

I get that you can buy a camry with roughly the same amount of horsepower now (still probably 40% less torque though)

#

but by all definitions, I would call a v8 challenger a muscle car

twilit wadi
#

Ok, so this is when I'm in game doing normal questing in FFXIV, it must be 5 degree more top when I'm in a big dungeon with 10 people, is that ok temperature to have ?
I don't know what's the top element "LENOVO 3704", is that the motherboard of the power supply unit.

hard drift
# twilit wadi

Those temps are fine, the hotspot is normal to be hotter than the gpu and is rated for more.

#

If it starts reaching 90ish for the GPU not the hotspot, then ask again

twilit wadi
#

what's the hotspot ? Just the point of the gpu that is the most heated compared to the average of the entire card for the other number ?

hard drift
#

It’s the center of the die

#

And gpu is essentially the die as a whole

twilit wadi
#

"die" ? I'm really noobish sorry xD

#

I honestly was in the market for a muscle car a few months back but I just didn't want to deal with how overpriced everything is at the moment, plus interest rates are ass atm

I'll wait it off a few more years, maybe wait for a gt350 (or equivalent) with the new s650 mustangs

It’s literally all KIA and Hyundai

deep sapphire
boreal surge
#

I'll be honest, who gets a Kia or hyundai?

#

Main reason I have some respect for Hyundai is that they're in the WRC, but it's a 3 make championship atm

#

And their reliability sucks

frigid turret
#

Generally speaking, people who want a mostly reliable sedan and aren't trying to spend upwards of 50k

boreal surge
#

So.... why not get a toyota. or a honda?

#

Toyota specifically is reliable and fast in the WRC.

frigid turret
#

Maybe people who don't care about WRC?

boreal surge
#

Question still stands though.

frigid turret
#

I have a hard time believing you're trying to have any sort of good faith discussion.

boreal surge
#

If you insist, I find it hard to believe that brands with more reputation are going for the price of an entry level luxury brand

deep sapphire
#

Hyundai is not reliable lmao, they always rode on the fact they were cheaper options

#

They’re a lot better than they use to be but the fact they produced an engine that was known to catch fire and swept it under the rug for 10 years tells you enough how much they care

main void
#

what to buy

#

3070 or 3060ti?

deep sapphire
#

Wait for 4000 series unless you can get an unreal deal on either of those cards

real edge
#

^

#

only the 3080 12gb is worth buying if it drops to like 600$ or something

#

but even then

#

can the 4070 have 12-16 gigs of vram for the love of god nvidia come on

#

not 8

dull garnet
#

I'm not so sure about waiting on 40 series cards as advice honestly, when are those even due and I doubt they'll not be a chunk more

real edge
#

its like

#

why spend 700euro on an expensive 2 year old card

#

when the 40 series 700euro card will be that much better

main void
#

I am using 1070

#

I was wondering if I should just get 30660TI

#

and later get a 4000 series possible

#

anyways tech is not future proof

real edge
#

getting s 3060ti only to get a 40 series a year later sounds like a waste of money

main void
#

yeah then I will wait honestly

#

I think 4000 series will fail

#

like 20 series

#

it won't stay long is what I think

#

I won't get 40 series like on launch

#

maybe e like 2-3 year down the line

#

3060TI sounds like good buy now

#

since I am using 1070

real edge
#

40 series leaks look positive but also consume very high wattage

#

ull also have to change your psu alongside your gpu

main void
#

what happened to 12gb 30770?

real edge
#

if its 750w

main void
#

yeha I have a good PSU

#

mine is 750W gold certified corsair

#

5900X, 32GB DDR 32ooMHZ

#

I just want to go away from 10 series now

real edge
#

yeah its likely ull need to change it for the 40 series

main void
#

yeah then fck it

#

I only play 1080p

#

and want to use DLSS

real edge
#

prices will drop further

#

if you wait

main void
#

yeah then I guess will wait till nov and see what happens

real edge
#

3060ti is still crazy expensive

#

should be 300$ but now its like 450$

main void
#

yeah I think I will wait till nov then

#

or for Dec

#

but high time I replaced 1070

twilit wadi
#

I remember than one year ago, most games that never were an issue with heating and fans spinning suddenly started to appear, like FFXIV, GW2 or even single game like Code Vein.

velvet flint
#

Is there a way to take SS in game without the fn button?

#

I have to press that and print screen to take SS in game

#

Because pressing print screen normally gives me snipping

deep sapphire
#

And being nvidia already has its order in at TSMC I highly doubt they are going to make insane prices hikes

deep sapphire

Hyundai are just great

Foreign automakers love opening plants in the south due to lax regulations and abuse staffing agencies like the plague

#

People can cry all they want about the UAW but they aren’t pulling shit like this

sly elk
#

yea

#

I get the impression hyundai is spending all their money on ads and designers

#

and cheaping out like crazy everywhere else

deep sapphire
#

There was a documentary about a girl that worked at a supplier for Hyundai and lost her life due to insane safety policies

#

They asked her to climb under a robot arm to free some shit that was stuck under it and didn’t lock it out or anything

#

but that's great if it floats your boat!

deep sapphire
#

Long road trips and shit

sly elk
#

yea I see it

deep sapphire
#

Plus supposedly it can optimize 2 lane trips

sly elk
#

lol i have adaptive cruise and like it

deep sapphire
#

Like it’ll automatically pass slower traffic

sly elk
#

but idk I feel like it's easier to trust adaptive cruise than to trust it to steer for me, too

#

but gm actually tried lol

deep sapphire
#

Yeah super cruise actually seems like it works pretty good

sly elk
#

but i still don't really trust auto-steer things

deep sapphire
#

Automatic high beams too that’s pretty fuckin nice

#

Boy does that get old constantly switching them on and off

sly elk
#

ah myjeep has those 😄

#

they're kinda stupid 😄

deep sapphire
#

Don’t work very well? Haha

sly elk
#

i've never actually seen it turn the lights into high beams

#

because I haven't driven out in the middle of nowhere lol

#

but what's annoying is you can't manually override it

#

unless you turn it off entirely

deep sapphire
#

Lmao wow

sly elk
#

i mean you can hold the stalk back to manually flash the lights or whatever

deep sapphire
#

I guess at the end of the day if you can see ahead of you that’s all that matters

sly elk
#

but if you push the stalk forward to switch to high beams it just says something like auto high beams on

#

yea that's... the other thing...

#

the LED headlights are already ludicrously bright

#

i've never felt the need for high beams

#

now on my old jeep... hahahhahahahah

#

the old jeep's headlights were awful

The Falling Man is a photograph taken by Associated Press photographer Richard Drew of a man falling from the World Trade Center during the September 11 attacks in New York City. sly elk
#

i've seen those in reddit setups before

#

I'd buy it... but I think it's like any other gaming laptop

#

they all sound really cool at first but they're a pain in the ass to actually live with

#

unless you live out of a suitcase

#

or maybe a college dorm. Admittedly, gaming laptops are great for gaming in college....

#

you can go to a lan party and have a decently performing machine

#

but they're not the kinda laptop tot ake to class to take notes. I'd use a 2-in-1 for that.

#

I think i like how it looks better now

#

like the gpu waterblock is beautiful

#

but my goodness it looks a lot less busy when you mount it this way

mm

#

are those pci cover screws original?

those are really nice

#

might be. i9 (8/16) will be 16 e cores while 7 (8/8) and 5 (6/8) will have 8 e cores

#

if that's the core count then it'll be a bit of a repeat of gen 12. i5 will be the gaming performance choice, i7 for everyone else. i9 to start something on fire (money or heat related)

#

that's what I'm seeing (8P/16E)

wanted to see if anyone has had a similar issue, not sure what to try:

Basically I am getting constant disconnects (90002, 90006 mostly) and it seems to be just ffxiv and only one the one pc in the house. Internet connection itself isnt disconnecting or otherwise having any noticeable issues, and the pc across the hall is having no issues with anything, xiv included. But for me every 10-15 minutes I get booted out of only xiv. Anyone experience something similar or have an idea what to look into?

I play on two dc's... havent actually paid attention to if it only happens on one. running that now for chaos, thats where im being dc'd from right now at least

hard drift
#

it's easy enough to run from both, it'll have similar results most likely

#

also another question, are you running wired or wireless?

wooden canopy
#

admittedly I do not know what this is telling me but I see a lot of request time outs

hard drift
#

go ahead and send a screenshot cutting out the first two

wooden canopy
#

im wireless right now, need to get some wiring down soon, new house.

hard drift
#

okay you're dropping heavily

#

that's why you keep dc'ing

#

best bet to try to help is a vpn i believe

wooden canopy
#

oh wild, is it strange that it only happens on the one machine?

hard drift
#

run a tracert on the other machine and see if it's using the same initially

#

this looks a lot better

#

it still manages to connect to the places rather than completely drop

wooden canopy
#

ok do you think its a regional issue? i live in NA and recently rolled an alt in EU to play with friends overseas, and the chaos ip is the first ss i sent

hard drift
#

more than likely

wooden canopy
#

and the other pc in the house never connects to EU

hard drift
#

a vpn can help somewhat for things like that but still going to be pretty bad probably

wooden canopy
#

ok i'll give that a go for a while thanks!

hard drift
#

np

#

i imagine if you did the tracert on the other pc for chaos it'd do the same thing

wooden canopy
#

are the * lines the dropped connections? or the time outs?

#

I can check that later and compare

hard drift
#

time outs but gaps like that will cause ffxiv to dc

#

even if you drop your internet for a second intentionally it'd do about the same thing

wooden canopy
#

oooh ok, that makes sense

hard drift
#

that's why wired is pretty much a must for this game 🙏

sharp star
inland mauve
#

hello as someone who works in IT Security I think there's not enough security alarmism

#

because security from a corporate perspective is money you pay in exchange for risk management

#

and that risk often isn't all that clear to higher management until shit hits the fan and nobody can work for a month because ransomware destroyed all the servers and backups

#

someone at McDonalds decided that their risk appetite includes having those Self Service kiosks be poorly protected

#

so I hope that they're on a separate network of some kind, and especially that customers don't have to enter personal data like financial information on them

cerulean jungle
#

Since then Hilton has had a couple of the largest customer database breaches

sly elk
#

the transaction happens through the verisign pinpad machine

#

the kiosk only knows if the transaction succeeded or not

#

I mean, I'll agree that they majorly fucked up using a windows machine logged in as administrator lol

#

but my opinion is that security experts have an insatiable appetite to lock everything down to an extreme

#

and at the same time, that kiosk...

#

cabinet should be locked with cameras pointing at it

#

a security expert will argue that the employees shouldn't be trusted with that level of access though

#

and probably want biometric + pincode for the like, regional manager or some shit xD

inland mauve
#

there's always a back-and-forth

#

a weighing of risks

#

balancing security measures against the day-to-day operation of the company

#

and the rule that your users will do their best to undermine your best efforts

sly elk
#

the level of privileges you get as a programmer in a company are usually different than the level that someone who works in ms excel all day has

inland mauve
#

I know about a company that has been trying to get rid of its local admin rights for years

sly elk
#

i've seen some pretty funny interactions because of that

inland mauve
#

because they literally have people installing bitcoin miners and every bloody toolbar and malware they can find

#

they even lost their IT insurance over it

sly elk
#

yea there's no reason for that

inland mauve
#

but still they won't get permission from higher management

#

I feel so bad for the information security department of that company, one of these days it's going to go seriously wrong there and they'll have to work overtime to fix a mistake that could've been prevented

sly elk
#

but I have plenty of times where I expect others to do things the way I'd do

#

and then I'm let down xD

#

coworker a: never commits their work to git until they're ready to have their code reviewed

cerulean jungle
sly elk
#

coworkers b,c,d,etc: Never fucking closes their merge request because they have just one more change they want to get in

#

so every time they ask me to review I have to go back through their 98234598235235 line merge request and remember what I already read

#

i'd almost argue

inland mauve
#

sounds like a policy issue

#

your manager should step in

sly elk
#

that some people should just have a ... deep freeze thing?

#

like they shut down for the day

#

bam, everything local wiped haha

#

that would be unusually cruel though

inland mauve
#

man that would be ideal for information security, but it would be so disruptive for work

inland mauve
#

that only works for a company where people are forced to work on terminals in the office that stay in place

sly elk
#

where I've popped open wireshark to listen to some stuff on a switch to figure out wtf it's doing

inland mauve
#

that would be such a rigid way of working

sly elk
#

now

#

if I do that

#

I might get a random "yo wtf" from security

#

if one of the excel sheet dudes does that he's gonna get fired haha

inland mauve
#

lol yeah

#

if we catch someone doing that we're going to start asking questions

#

but for WireShark you'd probably just get a "don't be weird man"

#

however we once had someone running Mimikatz because they "wanted to test the strength of their password"

Yeah I know Sennheiser sold part of their business recently, but I don't think it was to Samsung tho I thought it was to some company in Europe

i want to spend at max 150$ on a headset, i will buy either a yeti or rode nt-usb mic on a later date

I see your comment above about hyperx.. I have a cloud pro headset laying around and can tell you that it felt worth around the $65 it was? The sound quality couldn't hold a candle to the $200 dt880s I normally use... but it was fine for something that cost $65 at best buy

I've never used sennheiser but everyone I know loves them

The only issue with the combo ones is if you break the mic or the headphones you lose both
