what to train depends a lot on what you want to train, a persons face, an art style, a concept, etc, but in general a lora can cover all of those so it's probably the best place to start

I've done a bit of face training and then merged that lora with a custom model merge, it's not super difficult to do but can take a lot of time depending on hardware and what you're training, and if you're trying to do SDXL you pretty much need 24GB vram

i've been thinking of trying out the civitai lora training since i have some buzz, but I haven't decided what to train yet

Here are the SDXL sizes. 2:3 or 3:4 likely work best for standard portraits and the like, depending on the model.

Additionally, if you use ComfyUI, I recommend Mikey Nodes for a super quick+easy starting empty latent for SDXL sizes. I haven't stopped using it since I got it, and that's what the above pictured dropdown menu is from.
