#Shape, when rotated, identified as different shape. Triggers train loading error

The shape is the following: CcCcP-P-:WwWwCcCc:----WwWw

When loading a train, if the shapes are not all similarly oriented, the loader display alternates between 'Disabled' and 'Mixed input', with a red X. In general, identical shapes in any orientation are accepted as ... being identical. It's the first time that I encounter this problem.

Research shape clasification not working correctly
Done • Priority: Critical • Fix: 1.0 Release [1.0.0] • Game: 1.0.0-dev • Resolution: Done

Shape classification when previewing shapes is not working correctly in the Research system. The issue causes Shape Previews to only show specific Shape Orientations as valid Deliveries - in Classic Mode, Milestones and Operator Shapes only display correctly when facing North or East, while in Manufacture Mode, exotic compounds show only North-facing and Milestone shapes only East-facing. Shapes are accepted in Classic Mode regardless of orientation, but in Manufacture Mode they are rejected ...

Shape in shape loader has wrong direction of input shape
Done • Priority: High • Fix: 4 - Early Access • Game: 0.0.0-alpha23 • Resolution: Done

The Shape Wagon Loader displays and loads shapes rotated 180 degrees compared to the input shape. The player needed to deliver a specific Operator Shape for level 22, but the shape appearing in the Shape Wagon Loader had its quarters rotated incorrectly. This caused the Shape Wagon Unloader to output the wrong orientation. The issue affected all Shape Wagon Loaders at some point during gameplay, though it worked correctly initially. The bug appears to be related to mirrored Shape Wagon Unload...

Mirrored Train unloader outputs shapes rotated 180
Done • Priority: High • Fix: 4 - Early Access • Resolution: Done

When a mirrored Shape Wagon Loader loads shapes onto a train and a mirrored Shape Wagon Unloader unloads them, the shapes are rotated 180 degrees compared to using non-mirrored versions. With normal loader and unloader, shape orientation is preserved. With mirrored versions on both ends, shapes come out rotated 180 degrees onto the Conveyor Belt. This was initially identified as a rendering issue but was confirmed to be actual rotation behavior that needed fixing.

Train predictions don't show mixed input issues
Done • Priority: Lowest • Fix: None • Resolution: Missing Feature

When an even number of different Shapes enter the same Level of a Shape Wagon Loader, the Shape Previews at the Shape Wagon Unloader don't display any indication of the mixed Input problem. The reporter expected some visual feedback at the Unloader showing why Shapes aren't arriving. However, this was closed as Not a Bug because the Unloader correctly shows nothing is arriving, and the Loader already displays an error on its Display. The intended design requires the Operator to trace back fro...

Shape icon on train cars and unloader stations are rotated incorrectly.
Done • Priority: Medium • Fix: 4 - Early Access • Resolution: Done

Shape icons displayed on Wagons and Shape Wagon Unloaders appear rotated incorrectly when the Shape Wagon Loader and Shape Wagon Unloader are oriented in different directions. The actual shape retains proper rotation, but the visual icon shown on train cars and unloader stations rotates based on the station orientation difference. This causes confusion when players rely on the shape icon as a visual reference. The issue occurs in 2 of 4 positions on Train Stations and affects Shape Packages a...

Train predictions aren't displayed if a loader is going to receive different shape packages
Done • Priority: Lowest • Fix: None • Resolution: Won't Fix

Train Shape Previews are not displayed when a Shape Wagon Loader receives different Shape Packages alternating on the same Conveyor Belt lane. The user expected the Output predictions to show both package types alternating, similar to how a Shape Wagon Unloader displays multiple shapes or how a Wagon Transfer shows predictions. However, this is by design - the game cannot predict ratios when multiple items feed into a single Loader lane, so predictions are nullified to avoid confusion.

How is the train loader supposed to know which orientation to use?

(all machines in the game care about shape orientation except the vortex)

Well… it turns out the issue affects all shapes after all. Orientation generally doesn’t matter as long as the final shape matches the required one, regardless of how it’s rotated. Identical shapes in random orientations can be transported by any means—except by trains. I can understand this as a way to make cargo management easier, but it still has a negative impact on gameplay (even if only mildly irritating). If something can be transported by a conveyor or a space conveyor, it should also be transportable by train, IMO. If it remains advantageous to limit transported items to similar ones in the same container, orientation should be removed as a criterion to distinguish dissimilar items.
As it stands, you suddenly have to worry about aligning everything the same way before replacing a space conveyor with a train, for no apparent reason the first time you run into this problem—especially after getting used to ignoring the orientation of final parts.

What were you gonna do with a bunch of randomly rotated shapes? The only option is send them to the vortex. So this shouldn't be a problem later in the game

You can also build solutions, so all shapes to the train are rotated the same

Belts of randomly oriented shapes are going to be a pain to deal with. Way easier to make all of them the same orientation.
