When closing to desktop from the menu when running 0.0.8 with DirectX 12, there is some crash where the game doesn't close, and the window stays on top of everything else (including task-manager) when using alt-tab.

have you checked #🔍troubleshooting ?

Yeah, I already have analytics disabled, and the crash only happens with DX12 and only on 0.0.8. DX11 0.0.8 or DX12 0.0.7 seem to be fine.

Can confirm. This happened to me the past 3 times the game was run. Same version and with DX12. There are conditions though.

  • Exiting from the main menu without first starting a game works fine.
  • Exiting from a loaded game using "Quit to desktop" works if I do so immediately after launch.
  • The game hangs when using "Quit to desktop" once it has been running for a while. I do not know how long a while is though. The 3 times it did crash, the game was running for many hours.

The first time it crashed, I couldn't get any other program to appear on screen. Alt-tab showed the other programs (I was trying to get to task manager), but none of the windows would actually appear over the game window and thus were not usable. A hard computer reset was necessary.

The next two times it happened, I was able to access task manager and quit through there.

This sounds like exactly the same issue. All of the 4 times it's happened to me, I can't get any window to appear over the game (including Task Manager), so I've had to reboot.

What I found odd about that, is that pressing alt-tab, the window selector did appear and worked just fine. it's just the actual program I selected wouldn't show up.

Yeah, obviously there's something weird going on with window layer ordering when this bug happens

Meh, it seems the update fixed a few issues and introduced a few new ones :/

I can work around this by exiting with Alt+F4 instead of the Quit to Desktop menu button.
