So right before the cut-scene began, I pressed G. Am I supposed to grab this but it's bugged?

No youre supposed to give him his quil. Press G or what you use for the bird and he takes you to it.

I had the same confusion, it looks like it's giving you something rather than asking you to find that quill which he didn't even mention as far as I can remember.
