It's a way to synthesize gasoline (and oil but we don't need it) from plastic and biomass. It can be used to make more efficient fuel

Maybe the pyrolisis reactors could be vault loot like metal refineries?

of course, its basically the refined metal for fuel

yeah, its not needed now, but as we get higher quality vehicles and generators, a better fuel could come into play
