Being able to trade with your friends

Likely not going to happen unless multiplayer gets implemented, and multiplayer is especially unlikely since the game was built with singleplayer gameplay in mind, a lot of the things behind the scenes would break if you tried adding in multiplayer in the game as it is right now

Main issue also being that for trading to be viable there'd need to be a way for two games to connect with one another, but that may get finnicky with trying to trade spirits between platforms. Even something like trading between two switch copies would be hard, mostly because all of this would come with additional networking and server-side costs

I'm not part of the team, but I've seen them respond to similar suggestions before, namely the suggestion to let people transfer their savefiles between consoles, and similar concerns were raised at those suggestions. This stuff can be expensive, and hard to maintain as well. By being careful with their funds the devs have already managed to bring character customization to life (coming in a confirmed future update) which was initially cut from the game during development due to financial constraints, and we also got evolutions which were described as "possible, but unlikely to be added in". Them having extra funds means that we may see more games from them in the future.
