Okay, let me preface by saying it doesn't matter, it's just wild to me that you'd use icons to mark something that the sort does for you.
With that said: any and all lists of horses in the game are given under two categories, the first one is the sort, the second one is the filter.
The sort determines what is shown about the horse. Examples images: Date acquired, Sparks, Rating (shows the same as Date acquired but it sorts by rating).
Style, Distance and Track sorting also do their own unique thing but I've never found them useful.
But in the end, regadless of your filters the list is gonna be sorted by this selection, and show that info.
It's why it doesn't make sense to me to use icons on horses based on their sparks, the sparks are shown to me by the sort

you're looking for a combination of sparks and select skills, while keeping affinity in mind. sprints and miles basically always want 9* power, mediums and longs 9* stamina. currently in trackblazer, track aptitudes are very important.
so for example, bakushin would really like to raise medium aptitude so she can run triple tiara agenda. so you look for parent with 9* power, 9* medium and ideally a front parent like seiun or kitasan.
ideal is unfortunately out of reach (there is currently one 6pow 9med seiun on uma.moe and her affinity to bakushin is piss poor), so for example my team trial bakushin parents are my chiyo and taiki borrow, because i priorited pinks first affinity second (if you dont double circle inspirating those mediums is a lot harder and bakushin can only reach C medium at beggining) and blues last.
a horse without trying to chase pinks has an easier time - chrimguri for example probably just wants 9* sta nishino or taiki or, i keep forgetting if pasa is a pace parent or not
for trackblazer i think the priority in general goes pinks-affinity-blues-skills and other scenarios its blues-affinity-skills-pinks. at least, thats how i pick parents
i know some people get their groundwork on fronts from parents in which case a parent with most groundwork sparks takes priority but frankly fuuuuck that

I have Suzuka and Maruzensky with guaranteed slots in my Mile trio, Taiki is going to Dirt of course but they're all to me in the same tier, and the same one as Rudolf and Rice and Condor. These are horses where to get my new best/1st, I just need that 1 lucky run out of 10. As long as the aptitudes are okay, and the cards are all the same across styles, they win on their own through the power of amazing ults so the rest is just luck. If I'm struggling with these I feel I'm doing something extremely wrong
Now when it's Fuji Kiseki or Vodka, or Baku and Curren in the spinters or Cafe with her huge needs for aptitude sparks, those feel like "I need that one lucky run in 20 or more". Struggling here feels like "Yep, that's the game"

I have my own at 3LB, so when I run a Pace Chaser what I borrow is Chiyono's who also gives Speedstar but it's guaranteed, as long as you get to the third event
And it's honestly just a really good card

at most i can offer general tips like, are you managing your energy correctly (you can run first two races in a chain on empty with mostly no repercussions and save energy items for trainings trying to use as little rest button as possible)? are you using the first shop's megaphone (i feel like the extra bit of stats is worth it in junior and you shouldn't race til late aug anyway so there's three turns)? are you focusing on getting your speed and wit facilities to level 2 before late aug junior?

They brought back the Golshi mode again. This time, after getting all the monies, you can do an Ultra Golshi mode. What few people may realize, there is a title that you can get if you get a good ending with it. A "good ending" is a special character event that you get after winning URA finale, and it's not possible in Trackblazer, so you will likely have to do a run of either URA or Unity just for that. In Unity, you can intentionally lose against team Zenith (so you don't get them as opponents in the finale) and still win the finale for the good ending.
