Amazy Dayzees are sparkling, golden, extremely rare variants of Crazee Dayzees appearing only in the Paper Mario series. In Paper Mario, they can be seen outside of battle and are fought alone only in Flower Fields. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, however, they appear randomly with other enemies in battle.
yeah golden ones are stronger, and tend to run away turn one, but if you kill em, you get a decent amount of money

so how does level scaling stuff work in practice with RPG randomizers? my guess would’ve been that most RPGs effectively force you to visit areas in an order close to the area scaling (vanilla or otherwise), modulo encounter skipping and hard counter strats and such, so you almost need to nerf scaling to maximize actual randomness?
For Paper Mario, certain chapters are locked by certain unlocks
When you have these unlocks, the difficulty increases
The game is not very hard, so even if the whole world is scaled to max it'll be fine
That's why I set it to scale
For Crosscode's Archipelago, scaling just uses the in-game scaling mechanisms.
Both Crosscode and Paper Mario use a hub-and-spokes world, so scaling is relevant
Scaling enemies in Crosscode comes in two forms, boosters that set an area to near-endgame levels, or dynamic scaling that sets enemy levels to your level

I'm told the latest versions even let you replace everything with a single enemy type, or randomly spawn bosses outside their areans, and other nonsense

the only fully renewable method is your melee weapon, which is normally a sequence of Sword Upgrades starting with Stick and Sword
Zelda has sticks and bombs
but yes all the explosives are consumable, and the two magic weapons you don't start with and consume limited MP, and if you're a god gamer who can do parries the shield exists but that's also an item you have to find
Plus bow, slingshot, boomerang, magic, but sticks and bombs are most reliable

so, by default, at the start, the Fox can't hurt anything
one of the most common questions in AP's Tunic channel is "how do I break the bushes at the start" because logic basically expects you to either bait an enemy into doing it for you or use one of the free starting bombs or use the recently added mod setting to just delete the goddamn bush lol
but yeah personally I don't see myself ever doing a weaponless-start Tunic run again, running past enemies just isn't anywhere near as fun as fighting

it's a weird case for talking about ER because normally ER is about randomizing the entrances/connections between logical regions, and most of DB is logically just one big region; db layout rando doesn't even touch the logic
warp rando is more like what ER normally means, that directly edits the logical connections (which can be seen in the in-game tracker's logic display)

I find myself pondering this a lot because Tunic ER and Ender Lilies ER and AHiT act rando are all good but I often feel like it's not quite as much fun as it's supposed to be?
the main issue I can put my finger on is that in Tunic and EL there are just too many little entrances, I spend more time taking notes then playing the game
In a game with entrance rando, you have the same number of nodes and the same number of connections. This means the only thing that varies is how dense or sparse the connections are.
in OW, db rando and warp rando are the kind of thing you can "just play the game" without taking notes and handle totally fine, given enough familiarity with the game
You want multiple bottlenecks, and multiple shortest paths in order to make a graph more difficult to traverse.
I think it also helps that in OW, discovering a randomized connection (of either kind) is often not the only time you use it; in many kinds of ER the flow is often "ah, I found the entrance to <room>" and five minutes later "ok <room> is done, never coming back here"
I don't know how ender lilies or a hat in time work. Does ender lilies make it so each screen is a node on a graph?
Oh yeah. You want more interconnected bits so you can't shrink the graph as you solve it.
AHiT's the easy one to explain: it's a hub world, and on act_rando: light it's the equivalent of simply randomizing which SM64 paintings put you into which levels
it does go one layer deeper than SM64 because of "time rifts" inside several of the levels, and act_rando: insanity allows those time rifts to connect to anything, potentially creating nested rift chains, but in practice still rare enough that they're easy to manage
That's good. If it was just one layer I don't even consider that a form of entrance rando since you don't really need to do anything special to traverse it.
right, a typical OW flow on a non-vanilla spawn is "I got warp codes first, and my spawn planet's warp pad goes to <planet 2>, so I got all the itemless checks on <planet 2>, now I need Translator to get any of the translation checks on either planet, and Signalscope to get any of the signal checks on either planet, and..." so the warp doesn't become useless for a long time
(unless you get Launch Codes, then you're back to the vanilla situation where warps only matter to the non-ship-accessible areas)

yep, when I did EL ER my notes were arranged into sections for each bench, and the general strategy was explore every direction from a given bench until I'd connected to other benches and found all the dead ends closest to that bench, after which I could largely ignore that bench's region of the graph

I know there's a branch of the randomizer that makes it so boss doors can lead to a whole new dungeon instead of just a random boss
but LttP dungeons are probably a lot easier to do per-room randomization of than the later OoT-style dungeons; typically in LttP if you can get into a room you can just walk to the other doors in that room, and all your obstacles are keys and locks
So when you cross a boss door, it probably loads the area separately
Whereas for doors inside an OoT dungeon, you keep the whole dungeon's collission loaded, and load the graphics for each room when you enter it

first new telescope is chapter 1, which is one where simply completing an act unlocks more acts and that tends to snowball into lots to do, but this time my first act is a lategame time rift that hard requires the hookshot to get even halfway through
second new telescope is finale, which is "unlocked" but I can't get to it without brewing, deweller and ice hats
