I found this explanation of the 0-99 progression balancing that makes a lot of sense and is not intuitive
For example: With the default of 50%, if the furthest player can access 40% of their items, the randomizer tries to let you access at least 20% of your items. 50% of 40% is 20%.
Note that it is not always guaranteed that it will be able to bring you up to this threshold.```So with progression balancing at 99 you'll likely always be first or second in progress, while at 0 you'll often be last
Which means you can set it to 0 if you want to make it so people wait for you to find their stuff least often, at the cost of you not getting to play as much
And setting it to 99 ensures you get all your keys as soon as possible

the invis+dogs+spider+curved sword enemies are all pretty easy to stagger till death

Either way, figuring out how to push fast forward more might be tricky so maybe you could just give yourself bunny ears from the start instead
