in the base game if you reset after key use, then everything that happened after the key use gets reset, but (like most randomizers IME) the AP mod has to let you reset to save without wiping out recently acquired items to avoid softlocking in dead ends
so I believe the cheaty key reuse thing is currently seen as a side effect of that, I dunno if they plan on changing it (though it's definitely not a priority)
iirc only half the key doors are worth opening in rando anyway and they total, what, 4 checks? so it's not a big deal anyway

Generally the reason for this sort of behavior is that the item is so important you can't play the game without it, but you also run into situations where you can't find it

a lot of randos like to add extra Xs when there's an important "get N of X" goal, so you a) don't necessarily need to 100% your game, and b) to reduce the chances of a long BK chain where everyone's stuck on everyone else
same as how when the base game already has an optional N of X goal, like Gold Skulltula Tokens or Children of Moonlight or Tunic's Fairies, there's usually an option to put filler items on getting all of them

If you make it so all triforce pieces need to be found, you're not finishing the game until you're nearly 100% done with every check

My CPU's getting angry when it sees too many particles or when my character model interacts with a wall. Fix: Lower the resolution so it's less angry

welp, I appear to have discovered a very serious bug with the EL AP mod
looks like 20 checks got lost to the void
definitely no point trying for a higher % now, so I think I'll go finish the game

so the Ender Lilies randomizer is implemented as a LiveSplit plugin(?) thing (no idea why)
and LiveSplit appears to have silently frozen/crashed in the background while I was playing
and as we've just discovered the mod currently does not have any recovery logic to check that the save file matches the AP state
the devs are now aware of this

oh no it's nowhere near that bad
this isn't even as hard as it was in vanilla
I just have to try slightly
(and throughout this playthrough I've deliberately not killed every boss, so the adaptive difficulty isn't maxed out either)

if I counted right and it was 20 checks lost, that makes my real completion 80%, which I'm happy with
so only my goat is left, and that might as well wait until I've got the last major key
