#Zelda Legend of Link The Legend of
1 messages · Page 5 of 1
holy shit this guy literally kicked Link to the side like a ragdoll
the disrespect
this guy... literally some weird homeless guy wants to stay at your house do you accept?
''I don't have money yet to pay you rent but here take this smelly weird old bracelet''
''it's very old, but he gifted it to you so you shouldn't complain!!''

I'll decide when I want to take a break from playing thank you very much!
smh smh, trying to watch out for my health
Oooooh the seven sages' story
is this OOT's story?
hmmmm
doesn't look like it...

aaaaaaah she's so damn pretty
she says she's been dreaming about me
Link you sly devil you
Sahasrala!
''You got an amulet! It still retains Princess Zelda's warmth''
I love that I'm just some random country boy that waltz into the castle and the princess just believes all of my insane ramblings and gives me her family's treasured heirloom
''Surely the Princess looked gorgeous, as always... right?''
''The Princess leaves behind a delicious fragrance when she passes by... it makes this job worthwhile!''

so many guards commenting on how much they love Zelda
I guess that's a good thing
there's some random old guy in the middle of Kakairko talking about this ''StreetPass'' and how it allows you to connect to other players and they turn into Dark Link so you can fight
talk about taking you out of the experience completely...
oh... so I just... buy it? the game doesn't give it to me like with the sword?
alright then
alright, look at us all decked out
we're ready for adventure now

this is nice
cozy
Aaagh I didn't catch it in time!!
A really cute witch girl just flew past me
oooh look at that
it's like with the bokoblin guts and shit
botoru getto!
now I can put some melk in this bad boy
(if you can't tell yet I'm actually thoroughly enjoying this game so far)
yummers
curses! I bet Ganon is behind this
he can't keep getting away with it
niceu
you better give me free items, letting you stay in my house for free
alright!
Cuccoo lady!
oh my god they called her Cuca
oh no
''you wanna play with my cuccoos?''
eh... sure why not
''the rules are simple, you get in there, they're gonna try to attack you for 30 seconds, good luck!
''

sigh alright, we're doing this...
I love how she doesn't ask ''do you wanna play again?
''
she asks
''Do you want my cuccoos to attack you again?
''
oooohhh that little bar isn't magic it's like a pseudo stamina bar
it refills but still takes 'magic' to use items
that's actually really nice
ye
alright, temple time
yayyy
damn
this one chest in the temple is messing me up so bad

Ohhhh fuck off I figured it out
boss time!
already?!
alright then
oh wow
that was easy
nooooo
lol this looks so goofy
nice, the || weird smelling bracelet the homeless guy || gave me actually worked
aaaaand heart get!
hooray
Ooooohohohohho this is fuuuuuuun
Oooohh wooow, I'm exploring || OUTSIDE the temple now that I slipped through the crack ||
and the map even shows me || the new chests I can get, but didn't show me that before so as not to spoil it ||

so cool
uooohhh !
I hadn't found this earlier!
good to know
lol the fact that || there's rupees painted on the walls||
that's cute, || Wall Link's little step sounds|| are really cute too
Alright! Progress saved, objectives clear, the game officially starts now
I'll stop for now, that entire intro portion was understandably pretty linear-ish but now the game really opens up and I can pretty much go where I want, awesome
so far the game has been excellent, I'm loving it
I spent a few minutes trying to light up every brazier in that room at once, but found that's not possible, and I dunno if that's even the solution; I assume it's just there to make sure every player has seen at least one piece of heart they can't reach this early
I assumed it was LttP's backstory + LttP's story
to what extent LttP's backstory contains older-in-the-timeline games is... I'm not gonna think about it lol
I turned it on but I assume it won't do anything
very LttP in that regard; iirc in LttP you get bombs by either buying them in a shop or finding them in a dungeon chest, and there's a zillion shops or chests that all could be your first source
ok, before the dungeon it looks like you did at least three things I did not (the witch, the arrows and that cucco game), and of course I haven't done the dungeon yet so I won't click those spoilers
(technically I didn't get milk, but I know how and chose to use my one bottle ||for bees instead||)
ha, who needs power gloves when you have the power of CUCCOS
first heart piece
oh, I just lucked into a golden bee
||bee badge, now I'm... no longer afraid of bees?||
||oh wow, not only does it stop bees from attacking me, it makes any bee that spawns immediately start attacking enemies||
another tease for when I have more items
iiiinteresting, this little gap might just be the single biggest map change from LttP so far
ah, you have to go to Ravio for the arrows at this point anyway, I didn't "miss" them
I love it when they use furigana this way
the bow consuming stamina instead of arrows is definitely a win for me at least, it means I'll actually use it before I'm in a situation where the sword isn't an option
ah, the bow snaps to one of eight directions while aiming
that's probably for the best
oh, and it's nice having a real z-axis; a lot of the jumping enemies in LttP made it very obvious the SNES was faking its 3D
hmmmmm
does this mean we're going to get a jump over tiny walls ability at some point
welp, clearly this guy's about to die so I can get his staff
interesting, you get the full dungeon map the moment you set foot in one, no need to go find it first
it's the little things that really make a game modern
here I can see the next ball of doom before it comes out and possibly hits me, without having to sit down and memorize the pattern first
aaah, LttP's compass only showed the boss location, LBW's compass shows treasure chests and locked doors (the boss location is marked the moment you set foot in the dungeon)
iirc TP's compass did chests but not doors
speaking of not faking the z-axis
so that's how you get the monster parts for unlocking potions
huh, the big chest doesn't need any key to open, instead it contains the big door key
gee who could have ever forseen this
oh wow Yuga's fighting us himself? I was expecting him to run away and sick a big monster on us
so that's what Ravio's old smelly bracelet does
the map is such a liar
oh right, it's Zelda tradition to make the castle (or its otherworld equivalent) the final dungeon, should've seen this coming
I should go read the rest of Nire's backlog now that I've seen the whole first dungeon
which one?
was it one of the two where you have to walk down into a hallway you can't see from the top-down camera?
good catch, I didn't even consciously notice that but come to think of it I definitely would've questioned the chests floating in the void if I'd seen them earlier
are you bucking kidding me
lol, nice one game, you got me fair and square
niiiiice, the 2D/3D transitions are necessary to get various overworld things, so aside from reshuffling the existing puzzles there's also this brand new type of overworld puzzle
Like Like mentioned !
I feel like I'm not supposed to be here yet but oh well I found the way in
lol, my failed attempts to get down to the silver rupee keep adding chickens to that platform
that's different
oh thank goodness, it's a fix for the biggest flaw with LttP's core gameplay loop: ||letting me equip more than one item at a time||
oh she wants me to avoid the cuccos, not catch them

I tried that exact thing, I've already seen a couple heart pieces just barely out of reach in a ledge my little arms can't climb
I'm assuming perhaps I'll get the ability to climb a ledge after or something like that since the one in Kakariko and the one in the first mini dungeon with the lamp seem impossible otherwise
||I'm about 90% sure now that there's no climb/jump ability, but instead we're supposed to graffiti-walk along the walls in those rooms||
so thanks for reminding me to revisit the underground one
:twiclap: have fun
but first, I'm not done with these cuccos
I can't tell if I'm bad at this or this is harder than it looks
egg and chick levels both took me 3 tries
It's quite difficult, I got it on my second and third tries with the third being on the second difficulty
But I stopped after I noticed the prize || is just double the rupees she asks you for ||
I guess egg was "really" 2 tries since the 1st time I "died" instantly by not understanding the instructions lol
So I didn't think it was worth the time and money and left after the second level
well I had literally a thousand rupees when I started
Go crazy
maybe the final difficulty has a really good prize for doing all the difficulties or something
wat
lol, that time the big birds spawned in a way that slowly forced me to the edge and I couldn't dodge anything even if I did it perfectly
so luck is a factor in this
yeah, it definitely is
pretty sure that was 6-10 tries, I stopped counting somewhere in there
And yes that was the one, I literally sighed and went "
" because of how easy the solution was and I didn't do it before
721 rupees after the prize, I believe I had 1021 when this started
I've got nothing else to spend them on
also this is literally my second heart piece in the game so far
For now
I'm gonna go sell this bee I have
I had no problem with rupees either but I'd rather not throw them away so I didn't go back to he cuccoo lady
But they literally grow on grass anyways
I got like 300 or something from just cutting grass
oh look another bee
827
huh
Nire, have you met this NPC yet?
oh hi
well now you know where to go next time you play
||ah, the fast travel is much harder to miss this time around, that makes sense||
||that was indeed the solution||
that is definitely new
nice, there are subtle differences to look for (it also reacts to my sword differently)
👀
||dang, you can't graffiti to it because there's rocks in the walls by the dock||
sweet, I won the cross-map race first try (barely) without the shoe upgrade the NPC says you need
good example of easy ways to do non-linearity right
oh there's a harder course, I might need the upgrade for that
why do crows keep doing this
anyway ||this house up here gave me the power glove, so I have that now||
hahahaha these guys are just as googly-eyed as on the SNES
dodging the Mt Hebra boulders is much fairer now that real 3D is in effect and they do the standard modern thing of falling straight down with a shadow on the exact spot where they'll land
ah, so this is our new standard way of saying "you need X to get past this"
"I just need a place to stay" he said
wat
that's cheating
ok I was not expecting anything like this equipment system
||yay, this time they tell you that bombs can be thrown
||
omg ||eight-directional hookshot||
it's not enough

oh I already like this way of doing the collectibles sidequest
uh-huh, go ahead and do a victory pose, you're completely safe here
slight correction: you can select one of three pin colors by clicking on it after it's been placed
ok that's enough wandering around, time for Hera's Tower ||since I still can't find a way into the "wind temple" in the lake||
speaking of which, who is "Hera" in this universe?
i dont know
LBW's compass also shows keys not in chests apparently
oh boy
you were easily the worst part of LttP
and now you look like a hamburger
prepare to die
FIRST TRY
much slower than his LttP version, which I'm sure the Nintendo Hardcore generation will dislike but I think it makes this a far better fight; if I hadn't just played LttP that would've taken me a few minutes
hamburber
also, 3d lynel
hello mr lynel
you haven't played this one, right?
I feel like you'd vibe with ||the sidequest to save these little hermit crabs(???); once you pick it up they squeak so you can tell one's nearby||
wow, LBW lynels are much tougher than LttP lynels
I think I need a better sword before I can even kill them in a reasonable time frame, this one took so many hits and I have no idea if it's close to dying
actually maybe this isn't new, I didn't even find LttP's lynels until much later

ok, first significant complaint: some of the puzzles that involve falling onto stuff really don't work with a strictly top-down camera
uh uh, i don't have a 3ds
Yes!
what was she called in English?
Just temporary
I'm playing on Spanish not English
derp
I can't remember right now though
this isn't cheating!!
This is one of the things I've heard the most praise for this game about
It's one of the ''main gimmicks'' of the game
It helps with the non linearity a lot by not blocking you out of... anywhere really
2D lynels are adorable teddy bears
lol I was being sarcastic about someone just having half the key items in-universe
To be fair we don't really know what this guy even is yet
but he's got something going on alright
also I'm 95% convinced Ravio knows something about Yuga because this timing is far too convenient, but the game won't let me ask him about it so
I mean... what random homeless guy has a weird smelling bracelet that saves you from paint-ification?
Not that many!
So I'm keepin an eye on 'im
Don't you dare betray me Ravioli
I think I felt this a bit after the first temple when you first go out into the cracks where you need to drop down a few platforms, it doesn't not work but whenever the platforms are anywhere that's hard to see it definitely sucks
You can move the camera around... but not the angle itself...
the reason I ask is that, well, "girigiri" has several meanings, one of which is "just barely"/"at the limit"/etc, which when applied to "onee-san" of all things becomes ||the standard colloquialism for jailbait, i.e. a woman dangerously close to the age of consent
|| so I was wondering if that adult joke made it into other languages
did you know that everything in the world is tilted
oh yeah perspective issues are interesting
hm, yeah I'm not in a good area to show it off atm
it kind of makes me feel weird though
Yeah of course it's tilted, otherwise you would only see the top of everyone's head
but I did notice that, especially because, and this is something I had read about before going into the game but I noticed by myself, that Link doesn't exactly walk fully in the direction you're going, or, at least, he does, but the map itself is tilted, so it always seems like Link is always drifting to the left a bit
It may be less noticeable with a pad, but with my keys it's definitely noticeable for sure
I'm always having to correct where I'm going because Link just slowly but surely drifts a bit, because everything is pretty much tilted due to the perspective
im sorry for sharing a fact i thought was interesting i guess
To answer your question Ixrec, I just looked it up real quick, unfotunately no, in no other language does that NPC translate to that 'pun'
In most languages she's just called either the girl with rupees, the rupee hunt organizer, rupee rush gal in english
In Castillian she's called ''Rupinda'' which is kind of a pun name on a sufix 'inda' from a real name and Rup from Rupia (rupee)
in LA spanish she's called ''Encargada de Riqueza con Cabeza'' (literally Keeper of Wealth with Head)
I don't know if I said anything wrong but I wasn't trying to be mean or anything
I was just sharing an interesting fact of my own that I learned related to what you mentioned
woo nearly found all of the critters in Mt Hebra on my first pass
at this point the last guy is likely blocked behind either a superglove or whatever those eagle towers are
well I guess it's second pass if you include the first time I climbed up to the tower of hera save point and then warped away but still
oh my god I just spoiled myself on an item you can get trying to look for pictures of this npc to show
it's not super spoilery and if you played lttp you should assume that item is here too but still
gotta stop doing that
What are you using the pins for right now? Just so I kinda get an idea of what I can use them for myself, I should probably maybe pin down some heart pieces I have seen but wasn't able to get, I assumed that with the main power of going into walls I could go up to some places but it doesn't seem like it's possible so I'm guessing all those heart pieces I saw are acquired with some other thing....
i wonder if the Master Sword pull is the same in this game
Just to mention I saw one in Kakariko, one is in the graveyard mini dungeon thingy, and the other was in the castle (the one the main menu spoils
)
oddly enough I think every heart piece I've seen so far, I either figured out how to get post-tutorial dungeon, or is next to something else I also wanted to pin

I... guess I'm too dumb to figure it out then... I seriously have no clue how to get these things and assumed I had to come back later with some item
I guess I'll go back to check, see what I can do
so far what I've ended up doing is yellow for the hermit crabs I couldn't collect, blue for those eagle crest towers I don't know what to do with, and red for anything else that's clearly a "come back later" point (which so far is mostly large rocks)
it's also entirely possible you've found different heart pieces
Maybe, but if you managed to get the one in the graveyard then that's at least one I could've gotten and didn't
ok yeah you definitely can get the one under the graveyard
why ISNT THE MAP IN MODE 7
have you not found any bombs yet? I remember coming across a guy who sold bombs I think but I didn't seem to need any at the moment or had no rupees, can't remember
but I'm sure I saw some bombs even before going into the temple...
I was too focused on getting rupees for my bottle so I could get some delicious warm milk for the journey
bombs are ||one of the items Ravio lends you||
the desert looks differnt
noice, I was going to propose || using bombs on big rocks? ||
the desert being cut off in the light world does weird me out yeah
I don't know exactly how the lttp map looks like but considering this is an OOT-TP situation the geography has probably likely definitely changed after a few hundred years
||I believe only cracked rocks are bombable, and by "big rocks" I mean the solid gray square-ish ones that at least in LttP needed glove 2 to lift||
it's more or less the same it just had some small differences
Aaahhhh okay okay, yeah I saw one of those || near your dad's (??????) house that I assumed I needed big ol' gloves for ||
That reminds me, whenever I get back on the game I gotta go find my mum because when I saved she was hanging around my house looking for her kid and going directly into the forest full of monsters
light world turtle rock had ||a really good hookshot + graffiti puzzle room that took me several minutes, the reward's just rupees though||
I think BOTW/TOTK spoiled me when it comes to ''rewards'' for puzzles and challenges or something because I expect a neat item or something but it's mostly rupees from what little I did myself, not that I'm complaining, you're probably gonna be using a lot of rupees anyways
does Link even have an uncle in this game
you have a dad and mom
and... brother (?)
perfect example: this heart piece is next to one of those towers
to be clear, the game does not clearly state who if anyone your biological parents are, what is stated is that you're a blacksmith's apprentice; the blacksmith and the woman I assume is his wife are the closest thing you have to parents and sort of treat you like a child needing discipline (until you start doing this whole adventure and they seemingly don't even notice???
)
sucks to be this guy
finally done with Mt Hebra for now, and... I already have 20 monster guts
there's concept art of BotW Link's dad and sister but they were never put in the game
ah, these monster part numbers are for making each potion once, it's not a one-time unlock
no wonder it wasn't that hard to get to 10
Dad straight up doesn't give a shit if you're the chosen hero or not
I came back to see him fully decked out in my gear and he was like ''oh so did you give the guard captain his sword back you brat?
''
I call them dad and mom but yeah it may just be because the little kid calls them that and he's probably their kid but Link may just be an orphan or something
But the lady is really nice so I call her mom anyways
it is pretty heavily implied you don't share a house
She was worried that I hadn't eaten anything yet and told me I should after doing the delivery
yes mum
Well heavily implied meaning Link straight up has a house for 1 person and it's called 'Link's house'
so a bit more explicit
and Ravio mistakes it for an abandoned house
and your "parents" never notice he appropriates it
well at least we have a house!
the hero doesn't have time to clean his house
''Finally we got rid of that weird kid''
he hasn't put up his shop in my playthrough yet so I didn't see that whole thing yet but I did know he was gonna whip out the item shop from before though
yep that was all brand new to me
the only thing I knew going into this was "LttP sequel, 3DS, was it the one with that pink bunny guy?"
Once I get that I'm gonna see what I decide to do since that whole system supposedly opens up a bunch if not pretty much all possibilities because you're not being locked from doing anything by having to do this one temple first or something
I was around back when the game came out so I do ''unfortunately'' know some things going into it
but pretty minor, like knowing about the shop system
The ''survive the vicious onslaught of cuccoo'' minigame was something I had no clue about for example
definitely not all, e.g. the power glove(s???) aren't there, and if you can swim that's not there, just from what I know so far
hm I still haven't figured out how to reach the 3rd dungeon
the hint glasses apply to flat link
fit
swag
ok this is the third crab I've found underwater, there must be swimming in this game
now I am:
Next time 🫱 my girl 👩🚀 tells me shes flat 🧱 imma show her ☝️ this image 😂
Not really an ''issue'' of perspective but more of a necessity, but yeah that's a good way to show it
It would be extremely hard if everything was in the ''correct'' perspective
you'd probably not be able to see anything
speaking of LttP map similarities
I bet some of you who played LttP immediately recognize this completely unremarkable location by the flower arrangement
answer:
Link's gonna need a bigger wallet by the end of the game...

ahhh furigana
a lifesaver for dum dums like me
and every native speaker
there's a reason everything aimed at not-just-adults tries to include it
Language is so bad they need bonus letters to explain
I wonder if young japanese people generally are less knowledgeable on kanjis than the older population
okay but french is silly and we all know that already
it's an easy target
oh they are, there are specific lists of kanji you're expected to learn in school at each grade level
I think they need a big reform if you need bonus letters in normal sentences
to the point that any time in fiction you see Japanese written entirely with kana, you're supposed to assume the author/speaker was a young child
Considering how traditional japanese is (so much so they still mostly use a lot of old methods in daily worklife like faxes, manual writing, paying in cash etc) somehow I doubt a full language reform is gonna happen anytime soon

Okay I didn't mean THAT young
lol
I meant like, 20-30 year olds compared to anywhere over 40 something
ok but broadly probably yes
I'm sure there's lots of obscure English words we know that zoomers don't
and vice versa for the brand new slang
Are you including me in that ''we''? Because I'm a zoomer
well
you don't feel like one?
oh, also, Japanese kanji come from "traditional" Chinese; the "simplified" Chinese characters mostly never made it into Japan either
馬 is the kanji / traditional hanzi for "uma" = horse, 马 is the simplified hanzi
it's certainly simpler, but I've never seen it used in Japan
''I'm gonna pretend I didn't see that'' 🇯🇵
With how much young people are more in touch with digital stuff, I also assume that the fact that so much of the japanese language when you're typing is ''automatized'' I wonder if that also leads to some people to, to some degree, be less literate due to basically not having to write it themselves
I certainly can't hand-write any kanji
to be fair even adults doing handwriting usually resort to kana for the really painful ones
I know that especially amongst older japanese people and even more so in daily worklife like I mentioned before, a lot of stuff is done very manually and the old school way (not that old school), so still using fax still writing a bunch of stuff manually themselves, though I do know that it's a part of japanese culture to have your own customized stamp for your signature I think and it's just part of the many documents you gotta have as a citizen
the hanko stamps are cool at least
yeah of course I'm speaking very broadly and generally here I'm sure that a lot of more adult and older people in japan would find these things a hell of a lot more convenient
hand-signing receipts and contracts over here just feels silly

when I went to get my documents to be able to vote because I'm an adult now I had to write my signature on a digital little pad with a digital pen
Even in my country we're doing stuff like that nowadays
same
well not to vote, but I've done the hand-sign on a digital terminal thing yeah
and I live on one corner of south america, japan has no excuse other than they're just used to it
I do know there's this one mayor or something that was recently pushing for japan to adopt more modern and digital alternatives but I don't know if that went anywhere or if it's still a process that's going on over there
to be fair it's not like it's a bad thing at the end of the day it's just interesting to me
it did become a bad thing the one time I had to try faxing something
japan has always had an interesting connection with nature and tradition despite being seen as super modern and ahead of the world (which hey kinda relates to Zelda since it's a super shintoism inspired franchise
''

not that faxing as a technology is inherently bad or anything
it's just so thoroughly unsupported over here that a place not having any alternative contact method is bad
and now back to me having no idea what I'm doing
this is just like family guy
Right, that's pretty much what it boils down to, I did also hear mostly from some streamers that live in japan I usually watch (the trash taste boys
) that it's also quite the hassle to pretty much have to do any like, legal procedure of any kind or anything involving documents and stuff like that, I remember they had an entire episode of a podcast talking about how much of a nightmare banks are
Oh no, Yuga turned Link into a cuccoo
lol, there was actually a rupee behind this one
(does that button say ''Dero'' or ''Deru''?
I can't tell if it's a different hiragana or if it's the game's font style)
there's tons of details like that that are honestly really appreciated
I like that a lot
ah, 'Deru' is 'Out'
what does it say when you're next to a wall?
hekiga is not the most common term ever, but 壁 wall is worth knowing
ok I'm still out of leads on how to get to the center of the lake, but I've been putting off lost woods this whole time so might as well try it
I'm literally running out of map pins
aaaaand the very first thing in the woods is another pin
this dark world portal was replaced by a hermit crab

have you guys seen this commercial
https://youtu.be/cjpHzLYHkwA
http://www.zeldadungeon.net/
This commercial for A Link to the Past is entirely in Japanese, but it is absolutely hilarious. It's a bunch of Japanese dancing. Princess Zelda is shown in a cage, and is under attack by enemies until Link comes to save the day. Afterwords Zelda joins Link and continues the obnoxious dance. The commercial concludes ...
nope
it's wonderful
Also noticed that it's not written in kanji
but yeah that's a bit odd at least from my perspective obviously
in Spanish it's: ''Fundirse'' (to melt/to merge/to fuse) and to exit it's just 'Salir' (leave/get out)
also a cute detail is that the music gets muffled (or I guess goes into mono audio) when you go into the walls lol
I was wondering whether to comment on that yeah
wasn't sure what the proper audio term was
that commercial ganon reminds me of the RotJ rancor
zelda has a lot of unhinged commercials in japan
''hiyahiyahiya...''?
America really gets it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv_XqCx21VU
"Rediscover your sense of adventure with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom"
goshippu as in gossip
''Hime-sama no koi'' ?
yep

well I haven't met that npc yet so I dunno what's going on but I think I can gather it's asking about gossip relating to that?
yeah
not that he knows much, but it's funny that the option to ask is there
(that's why I only took a picture inside, so it wouldn't give you any hint as to where he is)
npcs sure talk a lot about the princess in this game, didn't even leave the castle and like 3 guards were talking about how much they loved the princess and how gorgeous she is
how dare you

MAKAR MENTIONED
I feel like I'm missing something very basic about how this tornado rod is used
apparenetly not
are these paintings intentionally placed at head-height for this framing?
oooh except ||floor tiles do get blown away by it, unlike basically everything else||
also I have officially run out of map pins
guess you better start looking around for anything you can do to solve whatever it is you pinned
Just how many things do you have pinned down though ...
well I guess I barely started the game so I didn't have much to find or do myself
I'll probably just unpin the towers next time I find a crab I can't reach
You guys keep talking about crabs that I have no clue about
I kinda gave up spoiler tagging any mention of that
(as opposed to concrete steps/solutions)
I AM AN IDIOT
no you arent dont say that
it took me almost 7 hours to realize that ||this gap is trivial as soon as you can flatten into walls||
||well ok that's including time to actually do the first dungeon since I went up here super early||
now we're making real progress again
yahari, kisama datta
i wonder if the guy under the bridge is in this game
as soon as I can swim, I plan to find out
yeeeeeeees I haz swimming now
ha, this time the queen even adds "I like to say we get along well with humans, but not all the zora listen to me..."
the zora are hot in this game
now to spend a few hours jumping into every water tile on the map
i think i might like this Zora Queen's design better than BotW/TotK's design
also the swimming handles better than in LttP
i figured that would be a given
||he just likes birds||
hello there
that's fair
I guess now I know there's swimming
I assumed there'd be some form of aquatic traversal
either swimming or a raft
I'd seen maybe 20 things underwater by this point so it was pretty clear
I figure you must have at least a few times
was there ever a raft after Z1?
unless you count the boat in WW
I don't think I've really been around water that much to say I have
I don't think any other zeldas have bodies of water big enough for that
Windwaker but, that's obvious
so in this game we have hylians, and the zora, and that seems to be it for species that talk?
yeah there was one in Zelda II
iirc gorons and gerudo don't exist until OoT and rito don't exist until WW?
Correct
The orni appeared only in WW and BOTW/TOTK turned them into furries
Gorons first appeared in OOT and to my knowledge don't show up at all in any fallen hero timeline game (LTTP, Z1, Z2, ALBW)
there are gorons in the Oracle games
the little brown guys in mt hebra that turn into rocks when you hit them had me wondering, but they never talk
the fallen hero timeline is LttP, Link's Awakening, Oracle games, Link Between Worlds, Zelda 1, Zelda 2
now I can finally learn what this thing is
||"before I die... I want to taste the Premium Milk from the Milk Bar..."
||
this idiot didn't even write down where they are
maybe they weren't expecting anyone to find it
no game I am not taking a break
'You've been playing for a while! Don't you wanna take a break?
'
played for 15 min
The game actually told me that when I reached the save point by like the graveyard I think
It's been like 10 min game
I assume it does that every time you save
not every time, no
wait what
but sometimes, or every couple of minutes
I could've sworn I've gotten it every time
i have no idea what Nintendo's obsession with you taking a break was in the late 2000s early 2010s
oh nice ||the milk bartender knows exactly who wrote this||
saved again
you're right, it didn't ask this time
It probably doesn't ask whenever you save pretty close to the last save, but after like, 10 min it probably will ask you
but yeah pretty annoying
IIRC in Galaxy 2 it was after every single level
after you had played for an hour, obviously
This game seems pretty non-linear so doing it after like, every temple or something would be a bit weird, but it should definitely be a lot longer, like every 25-30 min which is probably enough time for a portable game, though if I had a choice I'd ask for there to not be any at all
good thing the Switch doesn't have that, at least I think
to be clear, it's not an actual problem since I'm just mashing A to get through the save text anyway, it's just funny
yeah of course it's just an observation really
I find it interesting that it's even there at all but, at most it's just kinda annoying but not a big deal
I don't remember if we even touched on this but I really liked how this game doesn't have a magic meter and instead uses a pseudo stamina bar of sorts for items in general
I really like that change
I also really like it
LttP had magic refill items often enough that it never became a big issue for me
but it definitely means I wasn't experimenting with any of the magical items outside of situations where I knew I needed them
and there was one time when I had to just quit out of a boss fight because I ran out of magic (I'm sure you could argue both ways on whether that's good or not; I just brought more potions next time so it worked out regardless)
mmmmhm, that is one of the things that was becoming pretty standard in the franchise that people really started to dislike
this game pretty much started what BOTW went tenfold with when it comes to breaking conventions of a Zelda game
in Majora's Mask 3D for example, a big 'problem' was that Zora swimming was tied to magic whereas in the original it was not, if you wanted to swim at all you had to just swim like normal in zelda games at the time, so just a regular little paddle, if you wanted to do the super fast really fun swimming you had to use magic for some reason (on the remake), which creates that exact problem, players don't want to experiment and use it, because it wastes resources, and in the worst cases it blocked players from using other items that needed that magic so you couldn't progress on this one thing
So this is a welcome change
soon as I got the bow I started using it even if I didn't need to, just because I wanted to and the game allowed me to use it as much as I want
yes, exactly
in retrospect too much but that's part of the fun
ok time for the 3rd dungeon
have you been playing the whole day or is the game not that big in scale that you're on the 3rd already?
this feels similar to how fast I got through LttP, except for taking way too long to figure out how to get into dungeon 3
...did my game glitch? ||there's no key there||
oh nvm, that icon includes not-yet-spawned keys and I missed a spot
I like the detail that Zelda accidentally brought the mushroom fad to Rauru's time
It's so stylish 🍄
dungeon 3 complete
yep, I'm doing lost woods now
So you're gonna be doing an entirely new section of the game I have no clue about now
in LttP you just kinda walk through a woodsy overworld zone to the master sword and then pull it
but here between the overworld bit and the sword, there's a now-classic lost woods segment where you have to pay attention to tell which way to go instead of wandering aimlessly
I guess that's where they got the idea for BOTW's forest
I mean OoT and TP had these too
that's why I say now-classic
LttP not having one felt weird, but only because I played these out of order
good lost woods puzzle
shiny
woohoo !
oh interesting
there were the fake Master Swords
360-degree sword beams
but i guess that's not really a puzzle
oh yeah those were funny
and the thief who steals your shit
but yes by puzzle I mean in this one ||there was a ring of poes and one of them said "follow me" then the poes moved around in this confusing pattern to make you lose track of which one said that, then it got more complicated a couple times||
oooh the sword beams cut grass
gonna up the spoiler tagging now that I'm doing the next main quest thing
||the real guards all got turned into wall art||
is he gonna be okay on his own down there?
I remember these guys
oh nice they got a new attack
||wow, Impa held this guy off long enough for me to do two whole dungeons and associated overworlding? nice||
||...dude, we do not need to know if you prefer blondes or brunettes||
waifu.png
(family zoom happened before I got to the boss so big gaps here between chatter, but)
this ||Ganon resurrection|| legit looks really cool
watch ixrec finish the game tonight/tomorrow while I just barely got started
oooh, they're not always this explicit about ||who has which triforce parts when||

Nire don't you dare click that
this is actually unexpected
I can't believe you actually spent all day playing this game
you didn't have a TOTK session this long at least from what I remember
well this was interrupted several times and I wasn't liveblogging TotK nearly as thoroughly (especially not as many screenshots)
like the last 3 hours were basically family zoom chat so I got no real gameplay in
Ah you just left it running then
play while you're on zoom
I did the same in TOTK too
I happened to be at a spot where closing the emulator would've required redoing stuff I didn't want to redo
Unfortunately Citra doesn't have a total playtime tracker so I can't see how many hours I pumped into ALBW
plus at this point I'm not sure I can post anything without a spoiler tag until you've gotten a bit farther
||I honestly didn't know if LBW was going to have a dark world in addition to the flattening thing, but it does!||
no I will not take a break
||yay, they let you switch the map without switching worlds this time||
yeah I'm actually trying my best to not look in here because I don't want to stop you from posting or discussing anything but I also want to play this one relatively blind
at least until I get to where you are if not even further ahead
the good news is that where I'm at now probably means a lot of overworlding for a while
LOL so that's why this one house in Kakariko was always closed
oh, oh my
Ravio is about to get ALL ~4,200 of my rupees
this game sure throws a bunch of rupees at you
oh yeah, Ganon doesn't stand a chance now
||yeeees it marks portals on the map automatically
|| man, the things you take for granted when you play only modern games for a while
what was it
||he started selling items instead of just renting them||
!!!!!!
yup
speaking of which I just got another 800 for him
so, naturally, the game presents me with something I want to buy moments after I give Ravio the last of my rupees
multiple things actually
||Humans are filthy... We can trust only in... the demons!||
I guess that's one way to rationalize ||living in the dark world||
wow, I found a guy who sells a golden bee for 9999 rupees
hey Cap, look what I just bought
||now I have a Nice Bow, a Nice Boomerang, and Nice Bombs||
ok now I think I'm done playing for today
finally
...and the game didn't ask if I want a break
I guess it's my turn now
pouch get!
ah, that makes one of my spoiler tags safe now
there's the girl
ok that one's beyond my Spanish
The name is literally ''Manager of Wealth with Head'' which is the name of the minigame she's in charge of, ''riqueza con cabeza'' obviously rhymes and saying that you do something ''con cabeza'' (with your head) pretty much means to do something intelligently
heh
I think I stumbled into that one eventually
haato getto
did you get that by power gloving the rocks?
I don't have any gloves yet I just kinda did my best to maneuver the cuccoo over to the left so I could get in the hole
hah, wall link actually has the lamp with him as well, that's really nice
it's the little details
ah you also found the cucco workaround, nice
hmmm.... wait a minute, if I can go into the wall to get a better angle of a picture....

I knew it, it was a bunch of Zelda pictures
that is why I kept going into walls behind pictures; it was the only way to see what most of the pictures are
oh wow lol
I didn't look that hard at that house
It's my survival horror brain telling me to interact with everything in a room before moving to another one
tbf that's not wrong in Zelda either
much easier to remember what areas you've searched when you either do a thorough search or none at all
yus
wait
just two more

||I did finally try walking around those walls in the dark world, but of course the heart piece is in the light world, so I thought about portals for a bit, but then something else distracted me||
hmmm... Guri has a special relationship with animals you say...
I did see some animals....
/magic powder
ahhh
witch girl!
she gave me a bell for quick travel
awesome
''I'm not doing this because I want to...!''
tsundere, got it
interesting, she gave me the bell on the stone bridge SE of the castle
clue glasses...?
huh
I like how after you use her fast travel enough times ||she doesn't even show up any more, just sending her broom out on its own||
I'm guessing she appears after you reach a certain point anywhere on the map
I'm wondering what the criteria are though
maybe it's just a number of screens after the first dungeon
I don't see anything obvious in common with the two places we found her
That's pretty close to where I currently am in comparison to the castle, I'm guessing there's a certain radius of sorts around the castle on any direction and she appears whenever you cross that
huh....
ah, you got those much later than I did
can't move boulders without titan's glove huh
what a weird system, it literally is just a clue ghost
there was a phase earlier today when I wandered all over the map with these glasses on and struggled to find a single clue ghost
so I'm very unsure about their coverage
but I also haven't gotten properly stuck yet
(I almost did, but forgot to check for clue ghosts near ||that gap between the magic shack and zora village|| so I dunno if there ever was one there)
come to think of it I never checked for them in dungeons
hmmmm
guess I'll be back later

oh, small rocks only
still good
Oooh it's a permanent upgrade not an item!
And Link is even wearing the gloves in his model too!
yeah, Titan's Glove is a step above Power Glove
Titan's Mitt !
well we're mixing three languages of not-quite-matching glove names but you get the idea
Oh shit I accidentally went into death mountain

Uh... should I just do this now that I'm here or keep exploring..?
I mean
one of the red Xs on your map is at the top of Mt Hebra
so it was gonna happen sooner or later
I guess so
I guess I just wanted to check if there was anything else I could get right now outside of main quest but... I guess now that I'm here
hmmmm....
ok, in Japanese Link to the Past it was パワーグラブ power glove for gray rocks of either size, and パワフルグラブ powerful glove for black rocks; in English it was Power Glove and Titan's Mitt
(not looking up LBW for obvious reasons)
I agree with the translator getting creative on that one
ahhh shit
I can't cut these logs?
welp
I guess can't do this yet
hmmmmm
time to visit ravioli
alright, witch girl I need a ride
whee
those icon pillars were a clever solution to the problem of true non-linearity in a world where you need 15 different items to bypass 15 different kinds of obstacles and you don't want to smack the player with a giant tutorial on all of them upfront
should that "tu" have an accent?
tu casa
Nope, tú only has an accent when you're referring to the person you're directly talking to
''Hey how about you lend me your house and I lend you my awesome items? It's decided! And don't look at me like that... you don't even come around here often anyways!''

pretty much
hehe
well I'm gonna get the hammer of course
''mr. hero, don't touch that bag! it holds something more important than even our lives!''

....i'mma touch it
wait what
for me?
dang I saw the bag but never tried to interact with it
ah, and mi without accent is "my"?
you guys don't know anything about the story right ?
I just got close to it but yeah he just kinda said it when I went out the wall
you've read my spoiler tags, I dunno squat about what happens past the point I got to today
ok cool
I'm still absorbing the fact that [spoiler] exists and she's got a whole [spoiler] where there used to be just [spoiler]
the greenest sack of potatoes

hhmmmmmm
hey wait.. I remember seeing a heart surrounded by logs that I can now break, but where did I remember seeing that
oh! the heart at the castle should be up for grabs now
oh pff there we go
just had to walk
oh right, I don't think I went back for this specific chest yet
incidentally, imo unlocking Ravio's stash of lendable items is where it makes sense to start pinning things you can't figure out
because now a lot of the time you find a thing, you can use the right item to just get it right away
before you'd be pinning everything and collecting nothing and 20 pins would run out in no time
somehow I never saw that heart piece until I stumbled into it
I dunno why I put off the woods for so long
aaaand got the hyrule castle heart piece too!
I'm blazing through this
lol I love how sudden the atmosphere change is as soon as you step anywhere in the vicinity of the castle
one screen is adventurous and fun with a joyous jingle
then it's all dark and gloomy and there's no music at all
lol a knight killed another knight, so there's friendly fire
good to know
I can't believe that worked
I feel like I'm cheating

too bad i don't have a bottle on me...
do you want me to tell you how I did it?
nope
when I did it I couldn't believe it worked but I'm glad it did just because it feels intended in a way, like they expected players to do that
anyways this dungeon is... weird

Oh!
Hah, that was interesting
I straight up just jump to the higher level
oohhh haaaaaah
nice
aaaahhhh
this last chest
I have no clue where it is
iirc ||just keep going, you can easily fall on it later||
it's a very tall tower
fooound iiiit
I didn't notice the arrows at first and thought it was just 3 levels, so when I got to level 3 I was going "that's it???" until I found 4
got used to LttP always showing me the full list of floors on screen

the floor is evil!

I see you
Well I guess I can drink my milk now and put a fairy in the bottle
I.... can't?

oh
I think you just hit something I discovered during LttP
that you can't catch critters with the bottle, you need a bug net to catch critters after which you're given the option to bottle them
despite every later game giving Link the power to move his arms while holding a bottle
to be fair it probably is a lot easier to catch bees and fairies with a net than with a bottle
I'm not gonna say no because it's true but it's still annoying-ish that I could just... do it, and I can't
especially when even OOT link just bottles up stuff with no net
yeah coming from all the 3D Zeldas, this felt like a gotcha
but since I dealt with it in LttP it didn't feel like LBW's fault
but it's not that big of a deal it's fine, I just don't know where the net is right now so.. I guess I'll get it later
it's very easy to find in both games
I can excuse it in this game because a lot of stuff drops hearts anyways
in fact in both games I talked to the net NPC before I had a bottle and they went "uh, you can't really do anything with a net and no bottle"
granted, playing LttP definitely gave me an advantage on this part
well... I guess I can't complain too much if the game tells you that
hah, knew there was something there
is this a giant... burger?
it's not just me! #1067547311640678480 message
Oh my god that hit sound effect is terrifying
wait.... das it?
oh huh, okay, that was it
eh, honestly, don't really care that the bosses are pretty short so far, they're fun
I like it
after last time, I'm just glad they erred on the easy side
in LttP this was the only boss where I resorted to save stating after every hit because it was so bad
heh, this franchise has a thing for symbols and objects of power
normally I only save stated at the boss door so I didn't have to repeat the whole dungeon if I died
Pendant of Power get!
huh, were you expecting only a piece / quarter?
I wasn't expecting only a piece I just thought it was but only because I kinda forgot that after each boss you get a full heart
ah ok
was he so excited he did a sword twirl or was that a showcase of a new move I got?
iirc every 2d and 3d zelda has done full hearts after bosses since... well, since LttP
or maybe Z2, I still know nothing about how Z2 worked
the sword twirl is part of his victory pose yeah
he did that in LttP too
Yeah no it's always been a thing so yeah that was just me being dum

that's cute
The birb was tweeting a lot when I got out the temple and stopped when I saved, I wonder if the bird does that whenever the game tries to tell you ''SAVE NOW BITCH
''
I think they do that whenever you have significant progress to save?
still not super sure
Aaaalright, well, can't go here, and everything in Death Mt. is done so.... let's mosey!
I think so, either that or whenever it tells you to take a break, I'll keep an eye on that

I fucking hate these pokemon looking things in the mountain
so annoying
Ahhh I see, yeah I knew I'd be missing a lot of references to alttp
they are equally non-friends in both games

I think it'd be fine if there weren't gigantic lava boulders falling on top of my head every second
hhmmmmmmmmmm
I'll be back for you...
just be glad you're getting the modern easy boulders
SNES/LttP boulders are fake 3D so they start at the top of the screen and just pick random directions to "bounce" down the screen regardless of the mountain's shape, and hurt you any time the sprites overlap, even if they'd logically be high above you, and even if you're on a ladder and can't avoid them
I like that despite the simple nature of combat it's actually quite involved, these bow knights and the stalfos always try to keep distance and you can't hit knights from the front, gotta either hit them from behind, the sides, or side-slash when facing them
It makes combat a lot more deliverate than random sword slashing!
that's dangerously close to a ''back in my day...
'' /s
playing these two games for the first time so close together has some weird side effects
I actually got used to the fake 3d boulders pretty quickly and was able to reliably dodge 90% of them
f...friend?
interesting, I could never get side or behind attacks to work after they saw me, so my go-to strategy with the knights is to use a ranged weapon (especially boomerang since LttP gives you that super early and it stuns them)
Yeah no after they notice you you gotta juke them to get behind but that's not necessary, simply facing away so that they're to your sides and slashing will make the slash connect since you're not hitting directly in front of you but rather in a short arch
It's way easier than to have to juke every single enemy to get behind
A bow works too though
ooooh, you're talking about turning Link so his slash's arc starts on the enemy body but not on the enemy weapon that would deflect it?
kiiind of?
imagine that boulder is a knight and he's currently facing you
if you do that where you kind of face away so they're facing towards your side and slash it will connect
ironically this sounds more like how I fought the knights in LttP than how I've been doing it in LBW
like this
in LttP both Link and the knights can only face four directions, so when I was facing a knight I'd often deliberately strafe a teensy bit to one side so that my sword arc would not hit the knight's weapon and the knight's weapon would not hit me right away
also I'm heading towards the zora region but I don't think I'm meant to go that way yet or at all
but... hey whatevs, I'll check it out
||that's exactly what I thought when I went there in LttP
||
yeah the four directions only definitely makes it harder but now you can face a bunch of directions so it's much easier but that's generally the gist of it
for me 360 attacks actually made that strat not come naturally any more, boomerang-first feels better for me here
Sure, whatever works for you, if it works it works, the good thing is there's no single way to do it
''weird guy''
especially with Ravio frontloading the items this time
interesting, the JP is more like "suspicious guy"
ah man what did this guy do...

oh boy
the zora domain is uh....

more like a zora chamber...
or cave
well now it's clear I gotta get the swimmy things before I do this entire quest
90% of this world's sapients are Hylians, and the Zora get one river maybe, and that's it
what "cosas" exactly?
monster potion for damage or red potion for helth
I still need to try out the one purple potion I have
I'm terrible at remembering to use consumables in games
She said ''Oh so the gem from the zora is gone? Well i don't care about that stuff, you should ask the wandering merchant of Kakariko about that sort of stuff!''
aaaaah
purpl potion seems to be some sort of damage in a radius thing
or all enemies in the screen?
of course, "those things" can have the "that sort of thing" nuance in Spanish just like it does in Japanese
aaaah ambulante means wandering, that makes sense
I should use "ambulate" more often in English
''bébela para curarte los arañazos que sufras'' lol
got me a red potion
Ah!!!
there was a damn knight inside of a bush!
I was expecting "arañazo" to have something to do with spiders but nope
oh they love to do that in LttP too
dark world bushes were ironically safer just because they aren't there to do that
I think Mega popped into my LttP stream once and went "why are you running away from the bushes"

well it just might, but the etimology of the word isn't really known
it's theorized ''arañar'' (scratch/claw at) may come from ''araña'' (spooder) and ''arar'' (plough), although it's more likely it actually comes from a possible term derived from ''uña'' (nail), ''aúñar'' which then turned into ''aruñar'' which is another term for arañar that is still used in castilian spanish
is it weird that "aúñar" sounded like elvish to me
well it would be pretty ye olde spanish so not that far off
welp, now I know more than three words with an ñ
''pezuña'' (hoof) similarly has nothing to do with a pez (fish) but rather comes from pedis (foot) which went from pesuña to pezuña

t'was a good idea to do a little sweep of the area before the next temple
hmmmm there's a bunch of chests around here
should check this area out a bit more
ah, pedis for foot is easy for me to remember
and pezuña is just mandatory vocab for this server
just to be clear pedis is latin for foot
蹄 (ひづめ) btw
hidzume
got that one drilled into me by Umamusume
||depending on what you rented from Ravio, you can||
not clicking just yet just in case
but before I go to the temple, I'll go visit ravioli now that I've mostly used the hammer for now
that's only about this chest, just up to you whether you want to know or not
I'll sweep down the area near my house for any logs and see what other items I can get my paws on
If I can't get it by the time I get to the temple I'll read it
hm, I've been calling them "pegs" in my head rather than "logs", but that's yet another habit carried over from LttP
at least to me these read as "pegs"
hmmmmmm......
that might be a more correct term
I just say log because I'm more familiar with that word
now that I'm consciously overthinking it, the LBW model does feel more "log"-y
but yeah, pegs (clavijas) is more correct
I found at least one LttP guide using the term "stakes"

that one might not be quite as accurate...
clavijas mostly refers to little wood cylinders like handles or stuff used for carpentry
so calling it a tronco (log) feels more natural to me
the grid-ness of the world probably encouraged my brain to jump to "peg"
to me that's usually a tiny cylindrical-ish piece of wood or plastic that's designed to slot into something else
not specifically for carpentry, it also includes things like the colored plastic pegs used in Battleship or Mastermind
Yeah that's what I was trying to say exactly

she told me to play her minigame involving getting all rupees in the area in a time limit and said there won't be any counters at all
this minigame taught me that I am really bad at counting seconds
''If you don't talk to me before 30 seconds go by, I'll confiscate everything you got. Good luck! <3
''

also she gets confused if you don't collect any rupees
I lost!
''I don't like guys who don't do things smartly, so... I'm afraid there's no prize''
I was too early I guess
shockingly, I also triggered this case
ah I have almost 2k rupees I can mess around with this for a bit
sure let's not pick up any rupees at all this time
||I never found a piece of heart in there, but I did find a crab/maiamai||
there are not as many rupees in that area as I was expecting
🐝
why did I never look at those walls
not a wole lot to see but I assume in almost every wall there will be something fun like that
you
lol
the funny part is I was gonna write kisama but I got lazy
Hey!!
the weird guy!
he just runs off
Ohhh, haaah

of course that's how you do that
Oh!!
Well, that's mighty generous of this weird guy
oops
