#Cities Skylines

Fortunately, 4090s all have 24 GB of VRAM.
Page File should be enough from my experience. Like spooky, I also have 8GB VRAM and 32GB of RAM.
That said, the devs are working on optimization and a patch(s) should be out fairly quick to help.
some people say these settings help https://www.pcgamer.com/cities-skylines-2-immediately-change-these-5-graphics-options-for-a-big-performance-boost/
It's in the pins, Colossal Order themselves posted an optimization suggestions FAQ
I am confused by the decision to ship this without at least picking some default settings that can get better than 12 frames per second in the menu.
I spent all of my money on a preorder
I'm never gonna financially recover from this.

I need to try that game ๐ฎ
ah yes 10 frames in a fucking menu
there is literally zero 3D objects in the menu
Ok, so, I'm currently running game in a maxxed out settings at 1440p, just updated my drivers aaand...
it is capped at 20 frames
it literally doesn't go any higher
99% GPU util.
and the game actually looks horrible graphically-wise for those settings lmao
I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be like this
OH
it turned normal
bruh
yeah, so, no matter the settings I use, game is capped at 20 frames for some reason
I'm using a high preset with turned off shit like motion blur
so this is literally how bugged graphics are rn
I can see the abyss
I'm not playing this game. I haven't even started my city but it is already full of graphical artifacts and well (perfomance). I will return to it after they fix the game. For now though: they rightfully deserve negative review.
and even fucking texture blending (sand) looks like ass, bruh
I'm done with Cities Skylines for today. Gonna go play another game.
The game has to process the textures on first run, they went over that in the optimization post I pinned.

Cities: Skylines 2 fans complain of performance woes, after developer admits it missed target https://www.eurogamer.net/cities-skylines-2-fans-complain-of-performance-woes-after-developer-admits-it-missed-target
is this their fucking target? are they out of their mind??????
even consoles go higher then 60 frames nowadays
this is some 2015 goals
oopsie, ping by accident
well yeah
do you need 60fps in a citybuilder?
yes I do!
why
Exactly. As long as you're maintaining 30 FPS minimum, the rest is just gravy. You don't need 60 FPS.
It's not a twitch shooter
because of the smooth picture!
That's what the 30 FPS does
can you really tell the difference in a citybuilder?
yes I can
its a citybuilder
I played cs for a lot of hours on a shitty hardware
doing it in 144 fps is much different
i can see the argument in a fast-paced game, but... cities skylines is not that
it is not even about the game itself
it is seeing your mouse cursor sweep through widgets on the city panel in glorious above 100 frames
it just feels better
Yeah, sorry, that just... does not seem like a useful target for 90% of the people playing the game.
It may feel nice to you, but it's not a necessary goal.
If I'm not getting at least 60 frames people with worse hardware aren't getting even 30 since the problem is not in the settings but in how game works apparently (info: multiple reviews stating that changing settings haven't done anything + my exp)
thats literally a different argument tho
how so
we all agree the current state is not great
yeah but can we just aim for a bit higher demands so that they won't stop at 30 fps for top hardware
I don't see the point
This obsession with "number must go up" is something I hate about modern gaming culture.
graphix isnt everything
I'd rather they hit the 30 FPS minimum level, then put all their work into fun content
The point is that they will call it a day after achieving 30 fps on most machines, and we do need to pressure them into more optimisation
game doesn't even look that good
I disagree. Especially since hardware is going to improve over time, making the optimization past that point obsolete.
you do realise "most machines" are low to mid ranged hardware, right?
yeah
its consoles and laptops, gaming rigs are logically going to get better numbers
Maybe I'm making it not clear but with every CS1 dlc perfomance severely dropped
imagine what would happen with already bad running CS2
I'm not a programmer but I feel like it would make it harder to optimise the game further if you add stuff on top of it
it means they do need to do more optimisation, yeah
but they're already working on that
i dont get your argument here
and they have deadlines which include dlcs, we must pressure pdx into delaying dlcs so that devs have more time to work on optimisation
I saw very little performance drop with DLC, on my end. Maybe folks with tons of mods were having trouble.
this is my final point
Optimization? Sure
60FPS optimization? No. I don't think that's a reasonable demand.
Why not tho?
I think CS2 community would only benefit with higher framerate and more stable build
oh bruh they doubled the cost of the game, preorder costed me twice as less
if you have 100 manhours for development time, where do you put it all? if everyone is optimizing, you're not mkaing new content and you go bankrupt
if everyone is making new content and not optimizing, your game breaks and you go bankrupt
30fps is a pretty great goal when you think about it
More stable, yes. Higher framerate, no, I don't think that's a significant benefit vs. the cost of implementing it.
I don't know what this means.
remember that they're promising 30fps on most machines, which, just to remind you again, is a target for lower end hardware, not uber powerful gaming rigs
im sure you will have something close to 60fps on your machine in the end
it means that I bought preorder of the game twice as cheap as it costs now
at least in my region
Might've been a regional thing then, because the price never changed here.
now im going to wander off because you stopped arguing in good faith a long time ago
I'm sorry for arguing, it didn't even lead anywhere coz I still stand with my opinion.
We can just not bring it up
ok
we can agree on this.
Hopefully there'll be some performance mods for you...
This doesn't seem to be something mods can help with. Mostly it's an issue of inefficient texture compression, from reports of cards with high VRAM outperforming faster cards.
Darn
cool, I won't be able to try it tho
hopefully by the time I return home (2 weeks) they'll completely fix performance issues
Performance is pretty good for me, but the graphics arne't loading well.
I think the performance would be okay on my imac m1 but I can't afford the game lol
Okay, after playing around with it, I've got graphics on High (with a few specific items turned off), and still getting 50+ FPS in my starting city.

oh hay, is this because of the patch??
No clue, this is the first time I've had a chance to play.
I believe it is because of the patch, going by friends that had played on launch and post.
i do have a weird bug where rain basically goes sideways.
That's not a bug. That's Vietnam. /s
Traffic management in this game is just so much fucking easier. I was having a bottleneck on my main road into town, switched the intersection to use a 5-lane Asymmetric road, and trafic just melted away.
Apparently the citizen in the town you create has high poly teeth

You currently cannot reduce the quality of the people in the city.
it's time to become a creepy dentist who steals people teeth so we can get our frames back!
Nightmare Night is close enough so it's entirely legal
Environment? What Environment?
Are those all ore processing?
Oh nice. I don't have any coal unlocked on my map yet.
tl;dr There's a bug where cargo terminals aren't properly moving goods out of your city, and businesses aren't properly importing/exporting goods. CO is working on it.

That LGR comment

People are really grasping at straws
you tell me what one is lowest settings
EU buildings
Must avoid car centric dependency like taxis and parking lots
Cims really seem to like walking paths in this game
are Cim's smart enough to transfer between bus lanes?
I kinda want to try a 'spider web' out of the city center

Why ping ahhh

Hello and welcome back to the Ultimate Beginners Guide to Cities Skylines 2! In todayโs video, weโll cover a number of topics including local utility production (geothermal power plants), exporting utilities, how and why buildings level up and why it matters, and adjusting taxes to balance budget. We'll grow our city significantly, begin work ...
Are there trams in the base game?
They were my favorite form of mass tranist in C:S1, but performance issues, along with some issuse with steam workshop, kinda killed my interest.
Yup, there are
Yay!
I think you have to spend a few expansion points to unlock them, but they're not hard to get.
Just need a more powerful system and to accept that people are more willing to buy stuff than pay taxes.

And I guess Nuclear later on since I already invested in that branch
I went with Geothermal, with an eye towards solar & nuclear when I need more power.
Huh, no hydro. Hopefully someone will mod that in.
@blissful comet Do you have screenshots of the powerplants? I wasn't a big fan of the default plant in C:S. They looked too fancy and futurisitic, when modern plants don't look all that different from older plants.
No, they might have some on the wiki
Ah, okay. I might take up proper 3D modeling so I can get the styles of plants I want into the game, mostly taking inspiration from Simcity 2000.
Thanks regardless.
so the lower the efficiency the better?
there is hydra I just don't know how to calculate it
Lower the better but I did not factor in resource use because I don't know how
i'd asume coal or oil is cheaping if you mine it yourself rather then inport it
i'm at 0% service fee for an easy +5 happy and i'm still making lots of money from 30% taxes and 5 green smiles
and things like no fee for busses to try to make the barrer to entry as low as possible
WHY SO MANY TAXI'S
yes
Oh wow, you can
Good shit
~15 cars off the road
and another road to industry sector
Outside connections are actually important in CS2. Cims will use them to go to university if you don't have one, or ambulances will show up from out of town if you have no clinics.
if you make a mistake making a block with roads and you don't mind it's not stiright, leave it in. it'll add a bit of personality to your city or that block
i am still wondering how to get better pefromance in CS1 when you have a big city
Use fewer mods. Otherwise, you just... don't. The game gets very bogged down as your population gets big.

any other $50 parking $50 taxi enjoyers?
I should probably jack up taxi prices.
I am also a fellow subscriber of r/fuckcars

didn't even know there were such issues, lol
If you load up the game, let it simulate for a while. Apparently the changes cause some businesses to just fire everyone, then rehire, so you'll see like 65% unemployment at first before it levels out.
That apparently also causes massive traffic jams as people move out / in so...
funny how nobody noticed it in beta
maybe the problem exists only in release version of the game
It may just be something you don't notice under normal circumstances.
"removed Spasm radio ad"
Finally, the game is playable
hated that ad
not because it was "offensive"
It played way too often. They need a bit more variety in the radio ads.
Also, they need another Horse Economy ad
if the power is even low or cuts out for one secund, they talk about rolling blackouts, like come on bruh
I wonder if there's an AD free subscription... or a setting, that works too
That stable market takes a bit to build.
Horse Economy 4: Unbridled Profits
This one?
uh... i would never shop there just because of that AD...
I think that was the point. It was making fun of "hip" trendy ads trying to create a new viral fad to promote their brand.
Reviewing the long-awaited sequel! Is Cities Skylines II worth the upgrade? Lots of fresh features, quality of life improvements, and logical additions make CS2 feel like a proper evolution. Update on the game editor / mods
dear god, all of the starting maps are ugly
ugh
gonna take me a while to actually settle on a map for my city
take my words back there is only one which has negative temp at winter and that looks realistic yet doesn't look shitty
this game is f*cking broken
it won't let me do underground crossing lol
wtf is this
awesome
I think I'll just return to cs1 for now...
until there will be anarchy mod for cs2
How did you manage to get that crevasse?
I have no idea!
I just used page down and page up
trying to make an underground crossing
Oh, I think you're way too close to the road when starting that.
And you didn't go deep enough to make a tunnel at first, it's doing a cut & fill.
I did, it made a tunnel
I tried starting 1 cell further, it didn't help.
What you've got in the picture is a cut & fill, which happens when you're going into terrain but it's not deep enough to start a tunnel. You get the same thing making a road alongside a cliff (except only on one side).
you can see a tunnel here
I don't get why it wants to create that instead of entrance to the tunnel
I think you'd need to go further down to avoid making that cut & fill
Like, immediately drop more than one or two levels.
my sims will be going to mine trying to cross a road
ig I should try
tomorrow tho, I already turned off PC
It's not broken, but it's definitely not the effect you wanted.

this describes it pretty well
My first city I ever built in this game had a huge amount of people that need to be moved from point A to point B to point C for city's economy to function
wha's funny is that my bus routes only were going from point A to point B
I didnt notice at that time
but yeah I dont think pedestrians can walk on the side of a highway or through forest to reach industrial zone
I mean, it's still a new game, demanding more than 10% off is... eh.
They're not supposed to be able to walk on the side of the highway. And they won't go through forest without a path.
yet somehow they get to the industrial zone without using cars
either that or they use a clown car that can fit 20 ppl at once
I love the school area! It looks amazing!
That looks really good.
Coming March 25th, 2024.

gotta think about industries before starting this playthrough
it makes sense to put it here coz of the wind
the landscape also influences it, since we dont want any gases to be trapped down here
Finally! Are they making my house lol
hmmmm
yeaaah.... gotta work on shape
yo, actually looks great
think I gonna leave it as this work the time being
now I gotta add pedestrian crossings here
You're planning so much you don't have a city yet.
well yeah, but it can't function properly without connections and industrial zone
also I need a lot of suburbia to cover the single family housing demand
Are you playing with unlimited funds?
but honestly, making money in this game is super easy, like I never imagine to go in debt bruh
this is probably as good as it gets without buildings
hmmm
yeah that's gotta be enough complexity for this place
the heart in the tram loop is a lovely touch
im thinking of like placing some kind of administrative building here
so this kind of decoration makes sense
My brother in christ this is roadtown
I mean, not really, it has a lot of nature parts
Eeeer roadandtreetown
NA inspired at the end of the day

I love that key wall!
something something this
I think it could've been better
Well, don't beat yourself up too much. It's still quite good nonetheless
they didn't even add fuckign quays
this is bs, just a few buildings for 10 usd
The next update to Cities Skylines 2 is here and it's HUGE! It adds official modding support via Paradox Mods, unlocks the official Map Editor, and fixes many bugs and improves performance. At the same time, the first DLC and radio station are being released for the game - The Beach Properties Asset Pack and the Deluxe Relax Station Radio Sta...
Quays are a weird one. It seems they went with the idea that you'd really just want to build a road or walking path around that area anyway, so you do that and it fills in the concrete along the coastline.
Okay, the concept of mod Playsets is really good.
Yeah, it's the same system like in HOI4
Nice, they fixed the land value issue
Apparently they still have a problem with kids/teens living by themselves.
im not updating my game
Was there something new?
Yeah patch just dropped, first DLC is out, and mod system is out in beta
Oh wow, there's a TAA antialiasing bug that's hilarious
oh yeah that also
and im using taa
not updating lol
this is coming smoothly
Love the first person perspective!
This is a SUPER unfiltered opinion on Day 1 of PDX Mods for Cities Skylines 2 as well as the Beach Properties DLC based on my usage of these assets and mods the past few days, in particular, the errors, the good and bad of both PDX Mods and Beach Properties.
As a result, much of this was filmed of me talking to my camera on my phone right after...
pdx.
how.
how could you fuck up even here
fucking hell.
cant even play it without updating
nice, every part of the game (basegame and dlcs) is under "mostly negative" reviews
well deserved.
also I'm on AMD graphics card
so I can expect -10 frames just because
...
my game doesnt launch anymore
it- it doesn't even let me into the launcher
how do I write a second negative review
Man, this is just straight up frustrating
My personal opinion on what could make PDX mods better:
- Filter subscribed content out
- Ability to make mods appear as a list or differently-sized squares so you could see more
- Make it so it doesn't require you to spend an hour waiting for the menu to load ???
- Add assets (buildings) to the modlist ??? why tf is this isn't here from the start
As to 3, that's due to everyone hitting the servers at once right now. It should smooth out once the hype dies down.
well that's their problem
not like they are suffering from success or anything, game has low playercount atm
even after the patch
also half of my mods (the ones on screenshot) isn't on PDX mods as of now
so I ain't playing the game right now
not to break my savefiles
.
I will find things to get myself busy with
it is just that... ugh
Yesterday I did so much on my savefile and I wanted to continue that to finally start a city
it is more than just terraform brush...
why did they release this patch if it has such issues...
I thought there was a setting he was able to turn off though... or was that a system setting?
Turn off TAA
I'm aware that it is TAA
I'm not playing without TAA.
I'm not playing without 2 of my favourite mods.
I simply don't understand how after so many fuck-ups letting down the community you could roll out a patch that breaks one of the most used anti aliasing, nor how you could break it in the first place.

Eh, Bellular loves shitting on things.
ok so if anyone gonna do modding download Skyve on PDX mods
super helpful utility
it is gonna install as a separate program making it really easy to use
in short: a go-to for modding
This game is going to be saved just by the modding community lmao this 1 application is 100000000 times better than that PDX mods menu
also highly customizable
time to doodle some plans
this looks way better
part of the reason why I won't return to CS1 is just how satisfying road building here is
esp. now with move it
yooo! They got Skyve! I might actually get the game when it goes on sale again
personally, knowing the state of the game I wouldn't buy it if it is below 30% off
Alr
any game i wouldn't buy if it was below 30%
games are expensive, especially dlc
did... something
totally not realistic but im fine with it
looks cool from up top though
I'm closer to finally unpausing and starting the city
tried running simulation for a bit, I liked what I buildings I was getting
Yeah, who cares when it looks that cool
I think at this rate I'll finally start simulation in 3 days or so
not like I'm playing the game much

I just said "fuck it, I'll finish road layout after starting the city"
Welcome to Verde Beach! Today we're going to lay the foundation for a brand new city using a (mostly) vanilla version of Cities:Skylines 2. The aim of this build is to naturally progress through gameplay while creating a detailed, natural, and well-planned city. All industries, modes of transportation, parks, unique buildings, and monuments w...
It's... a city
But, the only parking lot is the faculty lot
Oh, he's redoing Verde Beach? That was my favorite city. ๐ฅ
Fire is one way to describe that city
It was hilarious how often it caught on fire. Definitely a flaw in CS1, but it made for funny streams.
watched it
truly a spectacle of city design
anyway...
realistic density released on PDXmods
so I had to restart the city coz I need the updated values
check out this elementary school in single family house district (yes just one word suburbia)
Oh god, the Verde Beach curse is real

Simcity 4 mods are crazy now with 3d camera
Is the old one fine?
Literal corrupt land developer
Builds the roads, pockets money and dips
Which map is this one?
(not finished yet)
river delta
the map I played on had some issues and I didn't feel like building that city
Well, hopes one works out
cool
cool
wanted to play a game this evening before going to bed
their stupid PDX mods service died
I CANT PLAY WITH MODS
WHY WOULD YOU MAKE IT RELY ON SERVICE WHY CANT I STORE MY MODS LOCALLY
OR AT LEAST WHY DO YOU NEED TO CHECK THEM CONSTANTLY
istg they should've went with steam workshop and not this brainfuckery that we waited for 5 months to come out WITHOUT ASSETS
sigh They went with their custom one so that console players could have some mods, rather than none. I get it's frustrating, but we know why they made the decision.
ugh, right, I often forget consoles exist
You're doing one block at a time instead of detailing after the buildings are in?
no it is just that for this development I wanted to do it using find it
Ah ok. Looks great nonetheless.
Too many bushes
Today, I'm going to show you how to create a huge beach hotel district in Cities Skylines 2 with a focus on detailing to create a spectacular area in the city. In this destination build I'll also show you how to make the infrastructure required to support the development. In addition, I'll create an adjacent beach property district to increase t...
Will Beach Properties be available for free?
We have made the decision that, along with the refund/compensation, we will include everything that was in the Beach Properties Asset Pack in the base game. If you did not purchase the Asset Pack while it was available, then you will receive the content in the next patch in about two weeks.
Since Ultimate Edition purchasers got the Beach Properties pack included:
What is the new content added to the Ultimate Edition?
The new content that we're adding to the Ultimate Edition will be three (3) new Creator Packs and three (3) new Radio Stations, which will add up to around 39.99 USD in added value.
Oh wow, this was expected
Any tropico enjoyers?
I enjoyed 4, played a little of 5, that's about it.
i like tropico, played 4 and 5
own all of them i think
they're not the best games in the world but are fun
gotta remake that turn
meaning clear it up completely
coz unrealsitic
so like there is a piece here
tomorrow though
What's that little corner going to be?
Like the center?
it would totally have skyscrapers and huge density - that's what I tell you
also this here is gonna be the best view on the surrounding bay
so that's a huge attraction point
Alright, sounds cool!
hopefully I don't abandon this project, lol
Do y'all think they might do a bigger sale this summer?
Not for CS2, it's still too new.
I actually have no doubts they'll eventually do a sale saying "hey we fixed the game come play".
I shall play then
dunno how they could fix it though
the simulation is broken from the start
only partially, ig
oh, and, um, recently one guy tried pushing game limits on population
performance issues start with 100k and it completely breaks after 400k~
Oh wow
to be completely fair, not many cities are going to reach 100k+ population
but still, game is very limited in that sense
code just breaks and sims stop spawning
like their physical copy
they still exist as a number
they are counted by the simulation
That's why this is empty
oh and also, if you want to solve traffic - go above 400k
coz 90% of cars are going to despawn
even if there is no jams
so could say that simulation optimisations are broken too
But again,
and major issues don't start until 150k~ (the worst being simulation speed)
But it still works mostly fine before 150k?
cars despawn even at 0 pop. if the game thinks it would optimise the simulation
there is already a mod to prevent that though
which actually makes game feel more natural
with all the jams and just traffic itself
well...
some people reported that after reaching 80k~ it won't matter the speed you put the simulation at as it all gonna be the same
but ig the hardware also a factor here
once again, simulation is definitely broken
and some components of the game just... don't work together??? like what??? public transport only influences the amount of taxis spawning and not traffic itself???
Yikes, CPP is only at about 40k in his series, and there isn't even that much high density stuff and it's more rural rn
must say it doesn't prevent me from enjoying the game
what really does is my lack of creativity and inability to implement my plans as the sound in my head :p
Both good and bad points, I hope they fix this stuff now that they are doing bug patches again
pulled from CS2 modding hub (noticed completely randomly lol)
the guy is sleeping don't you see
that's again to that matter that sims exist in both states
physical and numeral
numeral for calculation and physical for the picture
sometimes they bug out and don't show properly
don't represent their numeral copy
||(BUT THAT'S JUST ME THEORY OF HOW STUFF WORKS)||
But how often does stuff like that affect main gameplay?
.
Ah right
sims have a path to take
to get somewhere
for example from home to job
what happens is that they magically appear at the place of their job as a number (statistic)
when their physical copy takes a route (sim is already working there, those two are bound, yet don't fully represent each other)
Oh jeez
it is really weird and hard to explain and may not be 100% accurate
this is as far as community knows
can't really check all the code and functions, yk
celestia knows how it actually works
Well, half broken game is still better then no game
Tho they def should've spent more time on it
I actually been thinking of returning to CS1
as there my actions actually do something
like how I reduced all the traffic in my most recent city with a good metro system
And CS1 has so much more stuff
plus natural disasters are actually fun there
BUT
I just can't bring myself to lose this level of graphics (not the best, but way better than the first game)
to lose this road building system
to return back to CS1 brokenass traffic simulation
Well whatever you decide, I can't wait to see your awesome city
You have the save on the workshop?
Aww nice mate
I need to get back in to CS
I can worry much less about mods and such because of no major game updates now
oh yeah updating the mods was pain in the ass
Thankfully Skyve has a CSI version too
Interesting Zoning pattern there
Looking good!
Love that lower shot
im manually adding buildings since I want this to work.
adding level 1 buildings so the game is fair
Does anyone who watches CPP listen to Master Planned Music outside of his videos?
I never knew where he got his music from.
The Master Planned Music he makes himself actually
It's free to use in anyones videos and such with credit
oooh
Idk why but that land formation just makes me think that this is the state of florida but real tiny
It's not! I promise!
The video is a teaser trailer for a new collection of mods called Extra3.0 by Triton Supreme. There are 2 new mods being released on May 10 - Extra Detailing Tools and Extra Assets Importer

I don't think I've ever been hyped for a mod for a game I don't own, but wow...
Wait, are the assets baked into the mod or are they opening assets on Paradox Mods?

Just mess around a bit until something clicks, that usually helps me
I like that building.
Is that the old map?
I downloaded new version coz the old one is broken
Ah alright
Im doing a lot of detailing to make it look decent
oops
wrong reply
.
the pain of working with stuff on the slopes in this game...
btw this path is functional
Oh that's an awesome bridge
What? Why?
That is quite the breakage there...
Do you know what happened? Maybe you could report the bug
and this, that I use to reset my lut and haven't updated in month is broken
like wtf
what looks better?
I like the roundabout
yeah, I think this is gud
so is this a good layout?
Should be good to start with. You'll eventually want another connection to the highway, or else things will get bottlenecked, but it's not bad for now.
found a way to make this intersection look more decent
Woah, neat!
currently figuring this out rn
I think this is neat.
It is
Ooooo!
found a use for that space
I think it turned out well, I'll add more detailing to the grassy part later
Looks cool
man.
city has 2 connections to the outside world
but for some fucking reason probably coz this game is broken and pathfinding is ass they all use only 1
coz it is the shortest route
this asset is so gorgeous
Amazing shot
