this isn't really the correct order
number 5 is the weakest of the star bases
but this kind of underscores what I mean, you're all over the map constantly
Yeah I noticed the levels of things decreasing suddenly when I've been wrapping around the island
non-linear but the fights don't scale
I would've assumed that they would scale... I like the idea of the open world, but it needs to scale with the player at least in some fashion.
I just found that picture somewhere on the internet and I can't really say if it's super accurate or not because of that, but following that order has worked for me so far. I ended up getting a bit overleveled anyway because I kept getting distracted from the story, but the enemy levels will start to match and sometimes exceed yours very quickly near the end of that path.
This is getting more and more hilarious

Yeah this is Just shows at this point either the games need more dev time, a new console is needed with better hardware to support game ambitions, or gamefreak is incompetent at 3d open world making.
personally i think its more the first two
Nobody really understands what they were thinking with the release schedule
"They didn't have enough time" yeah sure especially since they somehow for whatever reason decided to release PLA
why does Iono have pointed teeth?
bc shes copying gura /s
who?
A VTuber.
True
I have been liking the game, though it really needs some QOL updates, especially with performance.
My only real complaint about Scarlet and Violet is that they don't have the mass release option from Legends: Arceus. There's really no reason for that to be absent.
It's such a good and convenient feature that's just gone in the very next games for seemingly no reason.
Tbh I care more about them fixing some glaring visual bugs. Shadow flickering due to bad terrain culling is probably the most distracting one for me
I concur. I feel like they should be able to address that.
what'd it do
It attacked 😦
I'm trying to walk it, to get it to evolve, and it picked up something new so I had the message about the new item. Which you press A to clear. Except it faded just as I pressed A and my character paused to say hello to the tumbleweed... only for a bagon to sneak up behind me and catch me
dang, the uprising's already beginning
I caught an engine block
The engine thing apparently has Slow Start as its hidden ability, which is very funny.
The engine block Pokémon is the most absurd one in this gen
I think the family of mice is less silly than the family of eggs in gen 1
interestingly, mine evolved
But the muscle car as a Pokémon is just a giant
I still haven't fully processed this
But at the same time, even gen 1 has mechanical man-made pokemon
Magnemite/Magneton, Porygon, and Mewtwo come to mind
But an engine block hits different
I don't think the engine Pokémon are manmade. Team Star just uses them to power their giant vehicles since their original plan of using Fire types didn't work.
If it's not man made then I have many questions
oh no it gets worse
oh I misread it
scarlet says: "It is said that this Pokémon was born when an unknown poison Pokémon entered and inspirited an engine left at a scrap-processing factory."
possesion it seems
no ghost typing seems odd but i welcome the 1st posion/steel regardless
It would've been super cool if they had Levitate as one of their abilities.
lol yea that 4x ground weakness
Hot take, but I think something like levitate should be a more passive side ability for all mons that actually levitate, even if they currently don't have the actual ability. Game balance concerns aside, I feel this would just make more intuitive sense
great. I'm being harassed by engines now
I don't think that's a hot take at all. It seems like a lot of people have had that exact thought. Being anchored to the ground and unable to be lifted by moves like Sky Drop and Telekinesis is a built-in quality of some species, so levitating above the ground should be one too.
side note, its weird and funny when a pokemon like Flygon uses dig, the opponent then uses earthquake but it does nothing bc of flygon's levitate
Chased by Varoom?
Levitating in the confines of your own dug in hole to dodge an earthquake
varoom varoom
its vroomin time 🏎️
🚗
I evolved one into revaroom. Good moveset, but low coverage and x4 weakness to ground really grind my gears. Ugh, went in and it just keeps getting targeted with earthquake and earth power. Love the moveset and design.
can u get an air balloon
That was my elite four end game experience: earth power spam
I feel inclined to just refer to this pokemon as the "car-mon"
VrooMon
How I managed to beat the League I will never know. I won, but still feel like I got lucky going in underleveled. My experience completing the final part of the titan story was similar with ground type attack spam.
I have no idea where it came from, but my Gallade randomly got the title of Reliable Partner in battle. Maybe there's a mark for winning a certain amount of battles with one Pokémon that gives it that title.
Also, they went hard with nerfs this gen.
Edit: screw you autocorrect
It seems Game Freak is doing balance changes more often to curb competitive issues. Aegislash was the first to get hit last generation.
oh yea, aegislash got nerfed. both its stats and king's shield
I still think Zamazenta should be able to learn King's Shield. It gets Body Press in Scarlet and Violet, at least.
Aegislash got nerfed again?
only once that i can recall
Only once. I think it was in Sword and Shield where it got nerfed, ironically.
I think the Protean nerf is just because of Terastallizing. I wouldn't be too surprised if it returned to its old way of working in later games.
crowned zamazenta's def dropped by 5 points
crowned zacians attack dropped by 20

I think it's -5 in both defenses and -10 Attack for Zamazenta, so it's still -20 in total like it is for Zacian.
ik tho i was focusing on their specialties
oh lord, shades of misty

In generation 1 when you went to challenge Misty she wasn't at her gym and you had to go find her. Here, the water gym leader has run off and you got to go give him his wallet
Oh
How the heck did I forget Misty was a gym leader?!
I was thinking
for some reason
same lmao
Weirdly, Misty was never a very memorable Gym Leader to me.
if it wasn't for the performance issues, this would be one of the best pokemon games
Yeah but at least those made sense in context.
Greavard’s little dance is amazing
Porygon was a digital Pokémon. Mewtwo was cloned. Both of which are reasonably plausible.
“This car is a Pokémon” is just….

It feels like it’s trying too hard
Don’t get me started on the lawnmower it evolves from
Why does varoom look like it’s desperately sucking the air? That’s just too cursed for me.
If you're referring to the Team Star vehicles, the car itself isn't a Pokémon. It's just powered by one like how your phone is powered by a Rotom.
Pretty sure it’s Revaroom in general.
Rotom is already morally horrifying, though.
Morally?
I mean, voltorb is a pokeball
Rotom is a cellphone now
rotom is social media
#cursed
Some things in Pokémon, I think it's best to just not think about them too hard. Rotom can come out of devices that contain one whenever they want, so the devices are probably just enhanced by them and not required for them to function. They probably just come out when the thing isn't being used.
Voltorb is a sphere that happens to look like one but it isn’t
Also, voltorb explodes in the overworld now.
It could have been created that way but it’s left as a mystery
They literally die in front of you.
I always interpreted Explosion as just being a powerful energy blast that tires out its user too much for them to keep fighting. I think the move description was changed to suggest that at some point too.
The thing is that people use Rotom to power everyday devices that otherwise don’t work without a Rotom. Which basically means people are enslaving Rotoms to run appliances.
Noted, will need to apply that as nightmare fuel.
But on another note, no one talks about Voltorb exploding in the wild? Outside of encounters?
That’s my interpretation too
They always had the ability to explode. But I was wandering about, and outside of a battle, one just went boom, with nothing left to even speak of.
Just release all of their energy at once
Maybe voltorbs are like ands and can be attracted to EM fields and warmth and stuff
A rotom ends up in your phone, and even if it leaves another one immediately enters it because comfy and warm.
Gosh I can’t speak lol
That part of the gym battle was funny. I think the Ghost Gym Leader is the math teacher's sister or something.
I posted a gif of it. Use it as you wish.
One of Electrode's characteristics is its attraction to electricity. It is a problematical Pokémon that congregates mostly at electrical power plants to feed on electricity that has just been generated.
-Pokedex, Alpha Sapphire
I was talking about why you’d expect a device to always have a Rotom in it, I have a migraine and can’t think straight lol
Not voltorb
"Scarlet/Violet is a great Pokemon but a bad game"

I think it pretty much sums up the current state of the game
I'm enjoying all the exploration. The laggy walking of people is noticeable, but I haven't had too many huge issues.
TBH, I think the worst part of Scarlet/Violet isn't the performance issues, it's the fandom. If people focused their criticism on the actual substance of performance issues, it'd be fine, but they never do, it's somehow everything and everything that's at fault. Oh shops don't have interiors-- not that you ever used a shop's interior for anything in any generation. It's always been a menu, it's just a menu you have to access by going into a building and walking three or four tiles to activate. etc
This is a pretty good summary
whats ur team?
I just caught a level 30 Arcanine, by far my highest level mon now.
And Marill evolved.
Gyarados helped a lot on that catch btw
I guess I have a level 28 Vespiquen too, but I am not sending that out against Arcanine ever.
"Why is this Pawmi a different color?"
"Wait, Pawmo?!"
I have 76 Pokemon now
Hah, I wouldn't know, I've stayed away from the general fandom since SwSh
Such a volatile presence online since it's so god damn big
skill issue
Lol, I have only one badge and no other quests done and 90 caught Pokemon in the Dex already.
Got two from evolving my spider and catching a Squakabilly
Pokemon hunting is amazing in this game.
I just finished the story, so I'll work towards completing the Pokédex now.
Day 3, but also Part 4!
My Chat Wishes:
- Please try not to be overly concerned about me streaming for long hours or whatever. I do understand the concern, but it has gotten really draining to constantly hear it over and over, and having to constantly tell them that I'm doing fine.
- Be sure to follow the rules (listed below) before participa...
Live again. About halfway through the game at this point, or at least close to it
does this guy have an idol group
you have no fucking clue. It's non stop toxicity.
It genuinely makes me enjoy the games less
This, 100%
The fandom has completely changed in recent years
It used to be wholesome as fuck
But the 3D game era made it flip upside-down
it turned out the third dimension was hate

I have never tried gen 8 and 9, but the other 3d games were quite good imo
I think Sword and Shield were really good, honestly. The majority of the fandom definitely wouldn't agree with me on that.
Raids were really fun and all of the quality of life stuff added was really good.
IME the fandom absolutely loved gens 1-5, but 6-onwards have received nothing but endless hate on the games themselves and hate towards people who enjoy them and it has only gotten worse as the years went on.
SwSh were fine
I’m not big on the raids thing and would like it if they brought back Mega Evolutions, but that’s pretty much it from me
What's weird is that everyone wanted BDSP so badly and then we got them and suddenly the fandom felt insulted by their mere existence.
They were fine, ffs
IMO better than the mainline games we've gotten in recent years
the problem is that the fandom is morons
Indeed.
like, when they say a remake of diamond and pearl, what they actually mean is that they want Platinum
Yep. GF appears to have dropped the concept of third versions, but people keep griping/waiting for them
Also it seems like the fandom couldn't agree on whether it should be a 1:1 remake like what we got or just a whole reimagining of gen 4.
how was ORAS made? havent checked that out
It was made by GF
no I meant how was it made, a 1:1 recreation or a reimagined into smthn more different
I really liked BDSP. I'm glad I'm not alone in that.
Oh, it was roughly a 1:1 remake with new elements added.
well, the thing with the third version is that the first one, Yellow, was clearly meant to tie into the anime, but many of the third versions seemed to exist to test ideas that GF would later introduce, like gender in Crystal or the battle frontier in Generation 3, which probably was the test bed extensive post-game content that you see in in the 'fight area'/post-League routes
But a big part of the problem is that I don't think the fandom has ever really grasped that things it thinks are 'key' to the game rarely are. For example, the post game in general. I've almost never played a pokemon game past the post game. I like pokemon, I play pokemon, but after 10 to 20 hours of gameplay that consists of basically the same loop over and over, I'm done with it
Once you reach a certain level, like around 50s, there's basically nothing to look forward to. Pokemon don't evolve, and at most they might learn a new attack. At most.
For me it’s not about the post game, I love collecting Pokémon. It was awesome being able to catch gen 1-3 Pokémon in X and Y, which IIRC had the largest completable dex in the series
I’d rather have a national dex and complete roster, and for Game Freak to continue building on a single mechanic like Mega Evolution
But line go up and TPC needs a new gimmick for each game, series, and card game set
I like Red and Firered. It didn’t have a ton of fancy stuff but I absolutely love it
And, as egotistical as it might be, I'm going to assume that my experience is probably not unique to the average pokemon player. Most people are probably going to reach the end of the game and just say 'well, that's it I guess' and be happy. So GF has little incentive to throw resources into a part of the game that most people will never actually use.
I want a more balanced focus on the over world, story, and game mechanics than have 90% of it put in one spot like post game content
Like Scarlet/Violet has so many problems but it has a crazy amount of effort put into sandwich making mechanics
It can’t be easy to have to model, texture, and rig alternate versions for mega evolutions, z moves, or whatever the fuck they call it now
But the fandom can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that most people playing pokemon, especially if they're kids, are not eager to spend 40 hours hatching eggs looking for the perfect IV/natured/etc pokemon. nor are they prone to continue playing the game through the post game content
Yeah
The whole shop thing really gets me on this point, as is the 'houses you can go into' thing
yeah, GF has turned shops into a menu and you can't go into most houses
but you know what? Most houses were bloody well pointless anyway.
It’d be cool to have things like Pokémon contests, secret bases, berry trees, etc and changing seasons, but at the end of the day I want to trade and battle. That’s it. I’ve never IV bred or anything like that
like, oh yeah break into someone's one room house which actually looks exactly like every other house interior and talk to the old man in the corner who tells you he really really likes pokemon and don't you? well, there's a good boy, have a rare candy
Indeed. Most players really couldn't be bothered to finish the PokéDex either.
I still find that rewarding, especially when some of the games have world details like blurbs of text you can read, or books in libraries
I’ve never completed a Pokédex but it’s me wanting to be able to get the Pokémon I want, and not be told “Sorry, you can’t transfer your team from Pokémon Home. Maybe next game in 3 years.”
I think it's nice that there are so many deep and mechanically complex things in the games for the more dedicated fans, but the fandom really needs to learn that they aren't the target audience of Pokémon and that most players don't care about the same things they care about.
one thing that gets me about dexit is that, unless I'm mistaken, GF had access to Pokemon bank and probably had statistics on just what was in those boxes and realized that most people either don't use the service at all, or they're not actually hauling around a complete pokedex from generation to generation
That’s fair
(And, lo and behold here we are in SV and in fact they've clearly put a lot of work into pokemon animations just as they said)
Yeah, I have zero qualms about dexit
never have I seen such emotion from a motorcycle
Something I feel bad for missing its just how interchangeable things were for a long time. You could take your Pokémon, and play with them in Stadium or other titles and transfer them from game to game
I was hoping that’s what Home would be but it’s not.
Imagine being able to capture Pokémon in Go or the main titles and transfer them between each other, or play in dedicated mobile titles like a mobile PokéPark
I love my little motorcycle jet dog friend
Everyone knows Masuda is obsessed with smartphone gaming
but this is what I mean about the fandom being part of the problem. Last generation everyone criticized the games for being open world but empty and having no caves, and the animations, in the overworld, being weak at best. And the lack of story. Well, here we are, the open world is as open of a world you can get, there's at least one area that seems to exist solely to be tunnels, and the animations are hugely better
But, by god, none of that matters because shops are menus now and you can't ransack someone's house
The performances issues are real, let's not pretend they're not
And, if the fandom focused just on them, it'd be fine. But they don't.
Am I expected to buy a game with significant performance problems and hope that Game Freak, Nintendo, and TPC learn their lessons and patch this, or that the next installments won’t be this bad?
One of the criticisms is, I shit you not, that pokemon are too small and you can accidentally run into them (especially in grass)
my brother in Arceus, that's literally the gameplay loop of pokemon from day one
That part isn’t valid but some Pokémon are ridiculously tiny in the over world lol
The overworld Pokémon are about 1:1 to their dex entry information. I like that they're to scale.
Yeah
People seem to forget how small a lot of Pokémon are.
(also they're tiny because they appear to be scaled their actual size. Pokemon have always been very small, Charizard is like, 5'7")
I did notice the issue of running into a Pokémon I didn't know was there, but as you say, that's the fucking gameplay loop.
It's not a real issue.
I'm just endlessly amused by Smolive.
Smol olive
What more can you possibly ask for
a Smoliv garden
Smoliv is funny. It has a really strong evolution too.
Seriously one of my favorite Pokémon from this game so far
Smolive Garden: When you're here you're Smolive.
i've always enjoyed post game in pokemon as it gives me a reason to raise multiple different pokemon, even if they're not perfect
I'm not saying no one enjoyed it, just that I doubt GF saw the sort of returns on that investment (so to speak) that would make it worth while
It might be more of a priority if pokemon fights were, for example, real time things where you controlled the pokemon directly and therefore skill came into play, whereas battles are largely the result of whoever moves first and hits the hardest automatically wins
It makes the gameplay loop rather boring because you end up spending more time loading in and out of it than actually battling, and at some point there's nothing new under the sun
I think breeding Pokémon is one of my favorite features in the games. I like raising them to be the best and strongest they can be.
i'm still salty over dexit
same
one of the biggest draws for me back into gen 8 was "OH GOSH I CAN MEET ALL THE POKEMON I MISSED OUT ON"
then dexit happened
they have a salt pokemon now, just for dexit. /s
trust has been permanetly compromised due to them cutting Starmie out of SwSh's base game
either way i'm curious to see the trainwreck for myself in person, so i'll be getting it whenever denzy does
at least some of the glitches are amusing
i love glitches as long as they don't interfere with gameplay too much
watching characters t-pose or ascend out of reality is always amusing
They don't interfere with gameplay at all. They're just visual and don't even happen in the single player mode.
it is first and foremost a fun game that is probably the most interesting update to Pokémon as a game in a good long time. The biggest technical problem is the performance. The prominence of glitches is greatly exaggerated online.
being able to run backwards and scale terrain you're not supposed to sounds way more than just visual
(honestly i'd just consider it a feature. i'd be a hypocrite if i were complaining about that specifically)
how many pokemon are available in SV anyway
I haven't seen anything about being able to run backwards, but it is true that you can jump backwards up some slopes to scale them before you get the ability to climb. It's very handy.
I know that's what you're referring to. That was just me agreeing.
it's like start-stop sprinting up mountains in BOTW to get Link to stop climbing, just so you can squeeze out a tiny bit of a stamina wheel
400
that's it?
Yeah. That's what it reminded me of too.
how many mons did SwSh had
400
The animation and model quality is really good.
that's a disappointing number but i can't say i am surprised
yeah
DLC is inevitible so I guess we'll see where the final number lands whenever they release it
seems like its the number theyre sticking with it seems so far
i dont remember how many mons SwSh had after the DLC, just that it was 400 in the base game at launch
400 + 211 + 210 according to Serebii
400's not too bad. We have more than 1,000 Pokémon now, and that's more than a third of all of them. Some Pokémon getting axed was gonna have to happen eventually as the amount of them gets bigger and bigger.
Plus a few more
is that base + isle of armor + crown tundra?
damn i didn't know crown tundra added more
I didn't check for duplicates
at least in that quantity
Just that's what the Pokédex is for each one
i found isle of armor to be a bit lacking so i ended up ignoring the tundra
couldn't get excited over it
Tundra added a lot
was gonna say, 821 is almost the entire dex lol
Looks like there aren't any duplicates
821 + a few more appears to be the final count
821 + 68 = 889 appears to be the final count for SwSh.
So, you know, dexit is exceptionally overblown.
eh, still not a fan of it myself
Wooloo is Pokemon #3 in the crown tundra dex
Ah so it is
Further checking online shows it's closer to 650
With 234 Pokémon excluded from SwSh
I didn't think that number seemed right either.
Yeah, having only a few dozen missing did feel off.
~650 sounds closer to what I recall people talking about when the DLC was newer
But I don't recall specifics
Poor Cyndaquil. :<
at least it got a spotlight in Arceus
is there a list of pokemon that are currently available in SV
I can only find a single list that lists the excluded Pokémon, not a comprehensive list of what's included.
Which is weird.
clodsire is such a dopey pokemon lol
LOOKIT HIM
Clodsire is funny. It's definitely one of the MVPs of my whole team.
I hope so. Starmie is literally my #1 favorite Pokemon
it being excluded from the base game of SwSh was like a huge kick to the face
Clodsire and Gallade are like the glue that holds my team together.
Gallade is always an MVP
I like Starmie too, think its neat
Never thought too much about Starmie, but it is a pretty heavy hitter
like i get that charizard is the real mascot and not pikachu
favoritism
seeing it cut that way was extremely upsetting
sandwich time
Starmie is cool. I found a random shiny Staryu in one of my Alola game playthroughs, evolved it and named it Polaris.
I'll be in the same boat when they inevitably cut Riolu & Lucario from a Pokémon game.
i'm glad it was added with DLC but it was annoying to have to wait
they will never cut lucario
I think so too
that's their primary furry outlet
I feel like Lucario is too iconic to be cut from any games.
there seems to be some that they'll never axe, charizard, lucario, pikachu etc
correct
eeveelutions too
although i said the same thing about blastoise and venusaur
hell i said that about all of gen 1
yet, nothing seems sacred anymore so idfk
Eevee is like a secondary mascot, so I don't think it and its evolutions will ever go anywhere.
BDSP not having Sylveon is weird, though.
ig bc sylveon didnt exist in gen 4
Eevee is the real mascot of Pokémon.
maybe so but BDSP didn't need to be a pure 100% gen 4 game
at least not one specific eeveelution is given more attention then the rest
I think BDSP also should have had Regieleki and Regidrago.
incorporating newer mechanics and features does not invalidate its status as a G4 remake
fuck these gyms I'm going after the sandwich
ORAS had megas so
i could say a lot about BDSP but i've said everything that really needs to be said
It wasn't developed by Game Freak. I would bet serious money that ILCA was explicitly prohibited from adding anything.
masuda was still on the dev team as a producer or consultant or something
which is just as bad imo
BDSP was just... very disappointing
BDSP was pretty much what I wanted, so I'm happy with it.
Would've been nice to get new things like ORAS did, but whatever
I think basically any Pokémon that's a new addition to an older evolution line or a new member of a group of legendaries present in the original game would be fine to include in a remake. That's what Rescue Team DX did.
My summary of BDSP amounts to "play Platinum"
I guess we'll see what happens. Despite being what it was, I still played a lot of SwSh and I'd be lying if I said I diddn't have fun with it
But like FoE I have a laundry list of caveats
sv has it's flaws, but when you're ||gliding on your bike and stop moving forward the legs swivel down to provide thrust to keep you in the air||
skeledirge's signature is something else
It's crazy broken. It's like Volcarona's Fiery Dance but 100 times better.
I don't plan on choosing Quaxly as my starter when I play through Violet, but its final evolution has a really strong signature move too when combined with its hidden ability.
All three starters have very good signature moves
she really gon fight the mons herself huh
You know things are bad when nintendo is actually accepting refunds
damn, kinda sad
kinda wanted nintendo to just sweep it under the rug
would've been funny
It's so unfortunate that such article used repost twit
ah yes, the good old lie to get a refund scam.
That is telling
Honestly this whole situation is embarrassing
what pokemon are those levels
a glimogoul and a garchomp
I need more gimmighoul coins
boom baby. the whole garchomp line is in the dex without me doing a single bit of training
wow. when a foongus spots you, it bends down so its head is facing the camera... looks exactly like a pokeball item
Just finished Violet's main story
I think this is how I'd sum up my final thoughts on the game in its current state:
"I really liked this game, probably my favorite modern-era pokemon game. But god damn, I really wished they finished making it"
Haven't gotten very far yet, but hopefully get a good session in tonight.
But before that I have a bikeride home in the dark, cold, windy and rainy weather.
I am very much looking forward to hiding under a blanket and just throwing pokeballs at everything.
LOOK WHAT I JUST CAUGHT! COMPLETELY RANDOM SHINY!
Blu duck
I haven't found any shinies yet, but I'm sure I will soon since I finished the story yesterday.
for me, the only real gameplay blemish on SV is the open world structure
they either need level scaling or a better guide to where to go and when
Correct. I basically ran into a beef gate yesterday out of nowhere in an area that is LV30-40.
well some of that is clearly intentional
idk, level scaling in general is a hard cookie to crack. I'm not sure how much fun the games would be if wild pokemon you encounter in starting areas were suddenly on par with your badge numbers (which is, honestly, the only metric they could use to level scale by)
I just found a shiny Dunsparce. That's one of my favorites.
Ninten-“We don’t do refunds for mistaken purchases”-do giving refunds

Meanwhile me on my first day of Go
damn lucky
i'm happier to have caught the Johto starters
Cyndaquil my beloved
RIP ghos doge
half the gym leaders are chefs, the other half are trying to beat the hopes and dreams out of you
this car engine is turning into a vip
vroom vroom
lol
The hammer tops 220 pounds, yet it gets swung around easily by Tinkaton as it steals whatever it pleases and carries its plunder back home.
I like how this sounds like your typical borderlands/destiny player.
oh wow,
I go to fly over a team star base and it teleports me across the map to the entrence
aw they kicked me out
now it's personal >:|

How many of us have done that? I know I have.
the ghost gym leader was really well done
Dancing greavard, that is all you need to see…
I'm about, oh, 80% through the story of the three paths and I'm honestly rather impressed. ||Alven and his doggo is very heart felt and I didn't expect pokemon to try and tackle school bullying of all things. I hope the boss is Hop. I know it isn't, but I hope it is.||
||Bai gawd that's Hop's music!!!||
Did any of you guys catch Arceus in BDSP?
I got to the Elite Four and stopped, sadly
Yea
Kind of bummed tbh
Arceus is one of my favourites but I won't be able to get them
Oh well
At least I can get Beedrill and Pikachu
Anyways if anypone wants to trade on BDSP with me when I make more progress that would be fun
Good to know! I may be interested
I started over because I stopped before the last gym for like 2 months lol
i got legends on monday, on account of exasperated parents. "please just pick somethin for the damn holiday"
ive been havin fun. it does glitch lightly occasionally for me, especially the ground texture (sometimes the ground just decides to boogie n shake in my vicinity
), but the game loop is fun n the character writing is, better than i expected frankly
it feels like its more on the level of mystery dungeon games than mainline writin wise
then again i havent personally touched a mainline game for, what like four gens now?
3ds emulations still a bit wonky on pc n with switch i just. havent felt like it
the spinoffs are fun, but with mains i just replay emerald or tweaked crystal occasionally
Aw I really like Let's Go and SwSh
n good for ye! i aint sayin theyre bad. i simply havent bought swsh, n with lets go its my sister who actually bought the game (she likes it a lot, id wager its her favorite game for switch fullstop). i gave it a shot, but stopped like, 60% on the way?
not on account of anythin bad my attention span just flicked over to somethin else n i havent gotten around to finish it
.... n now my save data is wiped
I see
Ha, Nebby
I think the Cosmog is a set encounter for the event but

i'mma count it
also add me on GO and spam me with gifts or something idk how this game works
5212 3461 0101
My Pokedex in Violet is already up to 169
press x on the pokedex screen to get rewards
I named my female Bidoof "doug"
JimmyHere reference???
My Pokédex in Scarlet is at 360 now. I just have 40 guys left to get.
Who
oh nvm i'm stupid
you said doug i thought you meant doogle
guys I have bad news, I tried to give my motorcycle a sandwich and now the shop tells me the engine's all gummed up. Why would pokemon lie to me like this?
So how do you do spoiler tags in Discord again?
Double | on both sides of the text
||I just caught a Ditto that didn't look like a Ditto on the field.||
With another Pokemon this kinda thing also happened and it's awesome lol.
I always thought that was a super cool way of encountering them.
Four gym badges now.
Is this a Star Wars reference or is my brainrot showing
Official : Pokemon SV sold 10 million copies in 3 days
how does that compare to SwSh
It is officially the record breaking sales among ALL SWITCH GAMES
Oh wait no, my bad
ALL NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE GAMES
Yes it's that well sold
🧎♂️
In history
:scootasad:
As much as I like Violet, they are basically getting rewarded for a huge technical failure
Also getting some breeding done now. First 5 IV for this game
What is an iv
I see
IV redirects here. For the fourth generation of Pokémon games, see Generation IV.
Individual strengths (Japanese: 生まれつきの強さ innate strengths), abbreviated IVs from its more commonly known fan term, individual values (Japanese: 個体値 individual values), are the Pokémon equivalent of genes. They are instrumental in determining the stats of a Pokémon...
Stands for Individual Values. The more IVs a Pokemon has in a stat, ie attack, the more damage they do
That sounds boring
It's moreso something competitive players focus on rather than casual players really
I see
But yeah the option of breeding for "stronger" pokemon exists for those that are into that sorta thing
IVs/DVs have been part of the game since the start. The current implementation of them has been consistently the same since Gen 3
If they changed how IVs work do you think people would burn down Game Freak
Depends on what's changed
They didn't burn during dexit
Dexit I think would always be more controversial than something mostly competitive players would care about
No offense Dj
You into competitive Dj?
Breeding for good IVs used to be a huge pain, but it's much more accessible and less of a time sink now and one of my favorite features in Pokémon. I like breeding things that are in rare Poké Balls and have high stats to Wonder Trade them off to random people.
I play competitively (or at least play games at a casual high level) pretty often
I haven't played Pokemon ladders in a long time, not since Gen 6 ORAS era
Neat, I dabble a bit, on showdown really, but I'm not an expert in competitive since I still need to learn more
I'm pretty dang rusty (and was also not committed enough back then to be considered THAT high level anyway), but I'd be happy to talk some comp-talk whenever if you want some help
I still dunno how serious I'd want to take this gen, but I am avidly curious from the sidelines for now
Sure I'd keep that in mind. Pokemon competitive is overall interesting to me
Also if anyone here plays on showdown I'd like to know since I like playing there mostly
If I can help it, I usually prefer to play on the games themselves. But if I take Gen 9 more seriously I'll probably showdown a bit more too
Anyway now that I have a 5 IV Sprigatito, It'll be easier to get some surplus of 5 IV Sprig's if anyone wants any later
Also while true, it's still a pretty decent time-sink. Especially if you're starting from nothing and don't have a IV'd ditto
If anyone here has caught the ||Ruinous Pokémon|| in Scarlet and Violet, would they be willing to touch trade them to me just so I can register them in my Pokédex? I want to get the Shiny Charm but don't want to catch them just yet.
I know that probably sounds super fishy just because of how untrustworthy someone asking to borrow legendaries to register them in their Pokédex always sounds.
hot take but I think pokemon would be better with an overhaul or removal of the IV/EV system
Noo
IVs and breeding for them utterly torpedo'd my post game enjoyment of diamond
but i am also anti-competitive by nature
I mean if you're not competitive you don't really have to care about IVs
That's the thing
IVs only matter if you are really trying to min-max against an opponent also trying to min-max
true but i also don't like my pokemon randomly being weaker for reasons completely outside my control
it doesn't feel good
Eh
while we're at it, get rid of natures too. they're a bigger problem, in my opinion
From my casual perspective as well, I do think IVs help individualize pokemon more. As in, it emphasizes that no two pokemon are alike

On one hand, good news for the game’s format.
On the other, that’s not a great message to send regarding the technical problems
oh i get the reason why IVs exist, to help individualize the Pokemon
but i also don't think the indivudization it brings matters
What about removing IVs but keep EVs?
it's never been an important aspect to me, and just generally gets in the way of gameplay
oh that's fine
EVs are way easier to wrangle
Personally I don't think I'd ever be on board for simplifying the underlying mechanics of Pokemon games
It's been like this since Gen 3 as well
It's just hard to imagine all of that getting abandoned and simplified when the core casual gameplay experience is still plenty simple and easy enough
Sun and Moon also made Hyper Training a thing, so the casual players who can't or don't want to breed for IVs can still have stats that are functionally perfect without having to do any of that.
It is. I don't know where the NPC for Hyper Training is in Scarlet and Violet, but the Bottle Caps you use for it are in the game.
I think people say 5V instead of 5 IV
I guess so it works if it delivers
Anyway, here's my extra 5 IV Sprigatito's if anyone wants to claim them
(First one is technically not 5 IV, but hey)
Fantastic just refers to the IV being 1 away from perfect
I'll refrain from using something like that for breeding. I've used someone's hacked IV ditto from wonder trade back in Gen 6 and it made things way too easy
And have it also be from a different region so you get auto-masuda method in breeding too
one bug I've noticed is pokemon getting too close during battles leading to a new battle immediately after the current one
Is the Ed Sheeran song good
?
The credits theme is an Ed Sheeran song called Celestial made just for the game.
I'll tell you when I get there I guess lol
I don't think it's too bad. It's not something I'd go out of my way to listen to, but it's a nice credits song.
yikes I thought my game was going to crash. random 5 second pause after a battle
Is scarlet and violet epic, I pre-ordered the double pack but canceled after I heard of the problems. But I thought about it and wanted to get it back because I feel like the glitches might make it even more fun. I usually find bugs and glitches funny(unless it soft locks you or corrupts your save)
Idk if I'd classify this as a bug, but perhaps not a well thought out system for that scenario
It's a good game that's in its Alpha Build state
Best most concise way to summarize the game's current state
I wouldn't go that far. I've not seen any crashes yet
most of the performance problems are small delays and cosmetic stuff
I completed the entire story and almost the entire Pokédex and I haven't seen a single crash.
I would absolutely go that far with what I experienced
I enjoyed it, but the game is not finished
Even if I didn't crash or softlock, the persistant technical quirks with the game makes it clear the game is just not done but had to get released to meet a deadline
Sounds great enough to try, I saw that gamefreak is accepting refunds too, so if I somehow don't like the game I can do that.
I do want to try out the glitch where your trainer can teleport if you battle wild pokemon in certain spots, potential speedrun tactics
There weren't any softlocks in my experience. Fast travel makes it practically impossible to get stuck anywhere.
Unless you get stuck in a loading screen

Yeah, I also watched a video of someone who got stuck with the legendary motorcycle mon, the game forces you out of the problem eventually
Is that a thing that can happen? I've never experienced that myself or seen it happen to anyone else.
My Chat Wishes:
- Please try not to be overly concerned about me streaming for long hours or whatever. I do understand the concern, but it has gotten really draining to constantly hear it over and over, and having to constantly tell them that I'm doing fine.
- Be sure to follow the rules (listed below) before participating in chat, and follow ...
4:58:16
Yes

It's as good as a hard crash without a hard crash
The game was clearly still running, just never finished loading even after minutes of waiting

That must be something super rare, then. I've never even heard of that happening.
I want to finish this sad shiny hunt I've been trying for around 9 years in BW2, it's for a shiny Kyruem because it's 3 shinies in 1, my friends irl still joke about it with me because this ice dragon has been bullying me
Im doing full odds of 1/8192 with no shiny charm and I regret it a little
havent heard it, but I did hear about how the 1st SV mod was about removing the song
it shouldn't be crashing or glitching like this in the first place
Why
ig the modder really didnt like that song
Also I managed to get the trainer ID guaranteed shiny Pokemon glitch to work, took about 2 hours to get the timing right. I can only get female shiny pokemon with the ID group I have. Its a bit complicated to explain
I messed up in the beginning to trigger a shiny starter but there is no way I'm restarting
It's the cute charm glitch

Here's how you do it
oh my boyfriend's done the cute charm glitch before
he gave me some shinies for my own diamond playthrough (as a jokey playthrough i guesS?) and one of the shinies was a shiny gastly. then when i got the pokemon tower near solaceon (?) i happened to find a full odds shiny gastly
so i had two shiny gastlys somehow
I guess I just never found IVs to be fun or engaging. It was too much of an emphasis on raw numbers, and it's hard to ignore now that you've seen how the sausage is made
Mmm question
What do the final forms of the starters look like
Weed cat is best
I like Fuecoco's the most
Do you guys like the gen 9 pokemon designs, I only saw a handful of them and I like them
I listened to the Ed Sheeran song and omg I love it
Grass start line overall is good imo
was never too big on the fire starter designs
neutral on water
I will never forgive Game Freak for making the perfect little cinnamon roll that is Rowllet and then his evolutions are terrible
i think rowlet and decidueye are good, dartrix is mid imo
i kinda like meowscarada, skeledirge is also pretty good. do not like ququaval much tho
but overall, i think i like the gen 9 starters more than the gen 8, as i dont really like any of the final evos there tbh
I loved the gen 8 mons
Imo Gen 1 and Gen 5 had the best starters
Time for me to list my favorite starter line for each gen
Do it coward
gen 5 starters are great
pignite is the only one im not a fan of
Squirtle, Totodile, Treecko, Turtwig, Snivy, Froakie, Litten, Sobble and Fuecoco
Gen 4 and 3 I like every starter almost equally
Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Mudkip, Piplup, Snivy, Fennekin, Popplio, Scorbunny, Sprigatito
gen 3 is the only gen where i almost like all the same, but the mudkip line inches more
Look at these epic designs
Gen 5 is my favorite generation though, I was surprised to learn that BW2 had the worst sales for the mainline games
I like the piplup/turtwig lines but I'm not super into the chimchar line, not that i dislike it
The chimchar line is based off of Son Goku from the story "Journey to the West"
Yes Kakarot
I am aware, its pretty cool in that regard
One of the few I know who likes Chikorita
lol
I don't like the monkey but the others are top tier
chikorita and bayleef, but meganium could be better
megameganium
Don't forget about the beta design of Bayleef
I always saw a sentret + sunflora hybrid
oh yea whats yall fave starters
mine is the snivy line which is also my overall favorite pokemon
That's a hard one to answer
Might have to choose Turtwig because you can make a small camp on top of Torterra and sleep on it
Tell us why
cap whats ur fave starter pokemon

That is indeed a starter in two games
The pokemon yellow intro is still stuck in my head
Surfing Pikachu!!!!!!
I always laugh whenever I see balloon Pikachu
If Surfing Pikachu doesn't bring you joy you have no soul
Where do I gain access to Grand Underground in Brillint Diamond
In Pokemon Go, it still looks goofy and I love it
I LOVE HIM
electric/flying
or just electric with levitate
whichever suits ur fancy
Charmander,
Cyndaquil,
All of them,
Piplup,
None of them..? (Samurott is fine I guess),
Froakie,
Rowlett,
Scorbunny,
Sprigatito

Those would be my favorite starters per gen, from the topic from earlier
Gen 5
penguin is about to utterly wreck Roark
RIP roark
Nobody loves Quaxly, it is blatantly true /j
Just gonna spam Water Gun
quaxly is fine, but im not really big on its evos
My friend chose Quaxly and she said she regrets it
I think I like them better than gens 6-8
i think Tinkaton is one of my faves of gen 9
but imma see if my opinions will change over time on the rest
I feel like there's always a slight burst of negative thoughts on the final evos of the starters once the game releases or leaks, but fades away after a couple months, if not shorter
idk I'm still not too keen on the gen 8 starters still
Fair, I mean I'm still miffed to this day that I never ended up liking any of the Gen 5 starters
I've only warmed up to the Samurott line since then, but still not my top picks
oh no
His Cranidos wiped my team
F
Didn't hit water gun hard enough
Even my beefy Bidoof doug didn't stand a chance
water doesnt resist rock
What does Zubat evolve into
golbat
What does Golbat evolve into
crobat
What does Crobat look like
Menacing
purple
While Golbat is just a goofball
Oh I love him
This is kinda creepy ngl

FBI OPEN UP
call officer jenny
Why did they add that to the game
I forget can I dress up my character
I don't think so in bdsp
I think if you got the game at launch you'd have access to the Platinum version outfits
hmmm
Actually yeah there's more than that too
later in the game tho
you'll see it at some point, it wasn't in the original DPP versions
I preordered this game iirc
You would've had to done a Mystery Gift event around launch time
it's definitely too late now
Unless you hack your Switch
My character is always boring, I keep them in their default outfit
I like the default look of a lot of the player characters
Same
Literally sobbing
I will be shot by Nintendo Snipers
my fave being Rosa from B2W2
I made a pokemon protag tier list a while ago and now I cant find it
rip
They have something similar
Sonichu
i rank the girl player characters rn
Do it
Why not the dudes too
Also for rosa, she is 1 tier under the rest of the unova protagonists for me
not overly familiar with the dudes
Rosa Serena Dawn Selene Leaf Hilda May Gloria Julianna Lyra Kris
something like that
I put her low too

tbf gloria has grown on me

Gloria is best
love the thinking confused look she has
I don't even know their English names so
oh yeah Elaine, she'll be like above Julianna
Which one is Elaine
for the boys, i like the designs of Hilbert and Calem the most
Oooh
That's literally my favourite Pokémon game how did I not know that

I made this fast so it isn't too accurate, I dont have a bad tier because I still like all of the designs
I do like Victor and Glorias snow outfits
Victor is one of my least fave player designs
Gloria slander will not be tolerated
again, at first i was kinda eh on her, but i quite like her a bit now
BW female protag is 👌
Shes in B tier, I dont go below that || Maybe the usum and sv protags will be in C tier
||
Me : I don't care male protag
keep forgetting USUM Selene exists. I much prefer SM Selene so i understand lol
mood, the female protags look more intersting generally
Yeh, I always go with the male option even though the female protags looks epic too
I never played male protag
also mood
tbf I almost always plays as a female character for most of the game
Unless it's genderlocked
I always choose the dude
you always choose the big lebowski
I actually don't even remember how many time I chose a male character over a female character if I had a choice
Very rare
It's radical and tubular my dudeski
much tubular
Oh I think I chose Stallion for Ponytown I think, although I rarely even used it
everytime i think of tubular, i think of that super mario world level

for ponytown, I got for my mane OC, who's a mare
Poke ocs is something I don't hear about much
Technically, in the games where you can customize your character those are ocs
I was going to ask a Pokémon question but it was naughty

oh
Do you think people have married Pokémon
What
Technically true according to G4 lore
What
yep

I remember from the anime yeh
Gonna need to see some proof
It was me, I married a Magnezone
Whoa
There are many myths in the Sinnoh region. Below are several from the library in Canalave City and other sources in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, as well as Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
"Sinnoh Folk Story 3"
There once were Pokémon that became very close to humans.
There once were humans and Pokémon that ate together at the same table.
It was a time when there existed no differences to distinguish the two.
So like are Pokémon capable of human thought
So this is the thing; they changed the translation
Yeh usually psychic pokemon
Because apparently they thought Pokemon and Human marrying is very inappropriate
I always assumed that pokemon understood human language
theres also psychioc types
Like alakazam
In the literal translation of Sinnoh Folk Story 3, the myth originally referred to Pokémon and people marrying each other.
who has 1000+ IQ
So if Pokémon were real I could marry a Gardevoir???
yes
Oh boy here we go
Holy shit
Yeah
Male of Female Gardevoir?
I'm bisexual
Fair
Lmao
depends on the gardevoir's nature
||naughty||
There is a famous fan theory that Ash has kissed a Pokemon
Latias?
What
Yeah, Latias
at the end of that latios and latias movie iirc
Correct
Yeh, but that's an F tier option. Probopass is the real deal
They smooched????
It was pretty unambiguous
Pffffffffff
That is a pretty nice stache
(The human is latias in disguise)
Oh my
Ash gets too many kisses
oh
I see people thirsting over Machamp on Twitter a lot
Ash hasn’t lived until he kisses a Gardevoir
not an early anime thing
in the sun and moon anime i beleive James' mareanie dreampt of marrying him
There was the moment where Ash's chikorita yeeted Pikachu from the bed so she can sleep beside Ash
Nothing canon, but whatever
Nothing canon, but they do have a habit of crossdressing. Probably just a joke.
They tend to behave as if they’re genderfluid if you squint hard enough.
Don't try too hard to squeeze queer fan theory from an Anime, especially older ones
It's...hard
They're definitely not like western shows
yeah, something about being a karate king before, then commenting on the power of modern science/medicine
Yeah
I want the oras costume pikachu to return
She was a Black Belt
There's a Gym Trainer in Scarlet/Violet that I was surprised to learn officially Male despite their appearance. Kinda curious to learn more about them 🤔
The ice one?
Ye
Goals tbh
He got confused a lot since the trailer
Can't believe I'm getting gender envy from a png smh
Fun fact is that JP/KR are kinda open to transgenders actually, but the problem is most of people there think transgender only means who biologically changed their sex
I expect the English text is very different from the Japanese text.
Sun and moon, I didnt go past the first trial captain
When people say "I feel like I am a woman" they don't really get it, but they get it when people actually gets surgery
I see
So this was a conversation that happened

Hey guys don't search fat pikachu in the gifs tab
So this is the original text
Alright, I'll do it

"Half years before, (I was) a Karate King. Medical technologies are amazing, isn't it?"
It kinda implies, but not really very straightforward
Trans queen
But as I said
Guys, I am a second opinion on the matter of searching fat pikachu on the gif tab and can confirm it's not a good idea
"The ones who got surgery" is what they usually think when people say "transgender"
Thus having "medical tech" in the sentence
Which is totally skipped during translation
One thing is that there is a debate around it
Which is "does she mean she was he before, or does she mean she was just a bulky athlete and then removed her muscles by surgery"
Kinda makes sense
Both way
That second one is a stretch imo
Yeah it's most likely the first option

He
Because
Why did they slim him down
I love
lost weight ig
Basketball shape
I'd wager they wanted to emphasize on pikachu being nimble and quick
I remember watching a video about Pikachu's drastic design change and it was because merchandise reasons, it was easier for them to make merch out of slim pikachu than fat pikachu for some reason
Damn
And that made me big sad
I always figured it was just marketability in general at the time
tfw when being fat isnt merchandisable
look at the bright side
at least fat pikachu is still in the old anime and theyre not editing the old episodes
Look at Pikachu's design from 20 years ago, and he looks almost unrecognisable compared to his design in the modern Pokemon games. So what happened to this so-called "fat Pikachu"?
NOTE: I referred to Pikachu throughout this video as "he", since Ash's Pikachu is male. I am aware, however, that Pikachu is a species, not a specific character.
PA...
meanwhile theyre gaslighting us into thinking ash-greninja didnt happen
Guys watch this video

get my epic limited merch: https://represent.com/setheverman
hey guys i started working on this video in 2018 haha here's a tweet i made back then https://twitter.com/SethEverman/status/1060171250943836160 this has been a long pain thanks for watching
my social media:

INSTAGRAM: http://www.ins...
What's up with Ash Greninja
That kalos league championships hurt me when charizard whipped and nae naed ash greninja and won
IIRC there was an episode in pokemon journeys (the gen 8 one) that showed a flashback of a scene from the XY anime, where greninja was in his ash-greninja form, but they reanimated the scene so he was a regular greninja in journeys
also changing the ability "battle bond" so it doesnt transform greninja into ash-greninja in the games, so theyre kinda axing ash-greninja in the games too
