You do need to finish the Vault 77 Quest IIRC to get better access to that "best non-PA".

• Combat Armor or Heavy Leather to start
• Civil Engineer (questline reward)
• Chinese Stealth Armor (questline or gold)
• Covert Scout Armor (RNG from Daily Ops)

• Secret Service Armor (questline + Gold, or Gold from Minerva when she has it).

I need to save up the gold for Secret Service armor. I managed to get like three of the Brotherhood plans before I got tired of Daily Ops.

Apparently, if you shoot a single target with more than one Cremator, the DoTs stack. So you can get insane amounts of DoTs on bosses by carrying multiple Cremators and shooting it with each one.

I've done one of those
I decided to make them basically crack under the loss of their entire family and went with a no companions Minute Men ending where they become a legend of the wastes, wiping out any and all raider gangs who may ever think about causing anyone what the Sole Survivor has gone through
As for the institute, there's some inconsistencies in the story and plot holes that make it seem like Father isn't actually Shaun, so I have them discover all of those things and shoot Father square in the face in a blind fury

I can see a defense for any faction though, at least in terms of being in character

Institute - Shaun
BoS - Nate was already a veteran and may be drawn to another military organization, Nora may see it as a way to reconnect with Nate, in a way
Minute Men - most unambiguous good guys
Rail Road - hard not to at least keep them around if you see synths as people

For my only full playthrough, I went with roleplaying the Sole Survivor as being single-mindedly focused on finding his son... so when he learned what happened it broke him. He just couldn't deal with the situation, and blindly followed the Institute because that's all he had left of his family.

There are two that will greatly affect how I play that will make it feel so new:

1. Cautious Traveller - In the early game, I cannot stray from roads or paths when travelling and exploring. When might falls or the weather becomes poor, I have to take shelter and wait it out.
2. Pacifist - Always solve things peacefully whenever possible. No initiating combat. No "gruesome" weapons when fighting sentient enemies.

Yeah, the wall glitching can cause this. I ran into a similar problem with one of my builds, I basically had to put away everything connected to that wire (you can Store instead of Scrap) and then even quit the server and rejoin to make it go away.

Funnily enough, Fallout 4 is experiencing a resurgence in popularity (not just because of the update, although that helps too), and a lot of people are saying it was better than they remembered it being.

It's been a decade for a lot of them, there are good and working mod tools for most things, and its stable (compared to launch). Biases are a bitch.

F4 had a bunch of nay-sayers before it even came out, because of the voiced protagonist. I think that primed people to hate on it from the start.

I'm someone who just really can't get into Fallout 4, even with mods. I'm a New Vegas fanboy with a staunch gameplay over graphics disposition. Roleplay over shooting, that kinda stuff.

There's plenty of roleplay in F4, but it doesn't guide you along as well as NV.

As a reviewer once put it, NV puts the story in front of you, while F3 & F4 are built so you have to go looking for the story.

Another big part of it has to do with the aged combat. I love the aged combat system a lot more than I do the modern combat system

Everything feels meatier, but that's not really the best descriptor for it.

I'm not one to trash Fallout 4 or anyone who plays it btw, I'm just giving my own gripes about the game, and how I feel New Vegas is better for me, not how anyone else should feel.

(That's a consistent problem with a lot of NV fanboys, which is why I mention it)

I'd take the gunplay from Starfield and throw in 4s VATS system for future SP games (which I suspect they will do).

76 is vastly different from NV and the MP is more of events or randomly finding a player camp/seeing them running around. Even in a group, folks can do their own thing and benefit from what others do/finish. You will need people to do the high-end fights or special events.

Maybe a controversial opinion, but I don't like vats much in fallout 4. I find in a lot of cases it is better to just aim and garuntee my hit based on aim, rather then rely on chance of a hit.

You see cases sometimes where you try and use vats for a headshot, you miss, and then you just aim normally and do a headshot anyway.

I could happily play all of fallout 4 without ever using vats. Perhaps even prefer it so the game speed doesn't suddenly slow down for an rpg element.

I actually prefer VATS in F76, but it requires you to really build for it if you want to hit specific limbs consistently. Your hit chance is affected by your PER stat, and there's gun mods and Legendary effects that give you +VATS hit chance.

With a character built around VATS, you can kill multiple enemies in a row without even really trying.

Yeah, the game doesn't slow down at all.

Kind of, yes. VATS is also how you do critical hits, so it can be exceptionally powerful if you build around it, but it's limited by your AP.

Which is funny, because there's now an item in F76 that gives you temporary AP regen boost, and folks discovered you can spam it to effectively have infinite AP regen for 3-4 seconds.

Oh yeah, totally. Plenty of folks dont bother with VATS, either because they're running a build that's effective without it, or because they're a sniper build that can do headshots easier without it. Sadly, sniper is not as effective as fully-auto builds right now.

Starting out, that's fine. Once you get to "endgame," you really want to specialize.

The main endgame builds tend to be:

• Full health Commando
• "Bloodied" Commando
• Heavy Guns in Power Armor
• Melee
• Stealth archer Commando
• Railway Rifle

Bloodied is ... interesting. Guns with the Bloodied effect gain damage as your health gets lower. And people realized that they could intentionally lower their health by taking radiation, then put on armor with the Unyielding effect which gives you damage resistence the lower your health gets & makes them harder to kill.

So you have a very small sliver of health, but between the Unyielding armor and a few Perk choices, they can still be tough enough to stay alive, which means their gun does extremely high damage.

Some folks really enjoy it. I don't find it worth the cost of trying to build. Getting armor with the right Legendary effects is expensive.

I'm mostly doing a full health build. right now focused on semi-auto energy weapons, but I'm going to try rolling a new automatic laser rifle to see if I can get something good, and try that for a while.

Why does 40 fps mode need a 120 hz display, that is the most bullshit thing I have heard.

Like yeah, you need a 120 hz screen to be able to utilize 40 hz

it's due to frame timing of monitors IIRC

40 fits into the refresh rate of 120 hz monitors

but doesn't fit nicely into 60 hz

Hello folks, I've been playing a semi-auto rifle build, and I'm starting to notice that I'm not hitting as hard as I used to, is there a good way to get more perk cards? I've just hit level 48 I think. I noticed I need to get the higher level damage cards, but I'm probably missing some.

yeah, around that point you're starting to hit the high end of the enemy scaling.

You get a new perk card pack every 5 levels, so when you hit 50 it'll drop & contains 5 cards. Otherwise, the only way to get more perks is through the Season board.

You will also get the option to pick a new perk every level after 50, so that'll help.

Yeah, the plans are not terribly common, they only come from containers & enemy drops. Can sometimes find it in the Savage Divide region.

Oh yeah I totally agree. Early game is a huge pain, and I remember having to do weird tricks and a lot of hiding to get through the first death claw fight.

My current playthrough uses Attrition and Sleep or Save to make Survival feel more intuitive

I can camp out to make the traveling feel immersive

While also having access to a portable quick-save (that I can't abuse in combat)

Yeah. Mods are the best way to go for doing survival. Hardest difficulty is just so intense. It always is in Bethesda games. Very hard in Fallout 3 was annoying, making everything a bullet sponge while you die in an instant, and fallout 4 on very hard or survival is the same.

Won't help you now but, if you run into this again before the patch: if you wait long enough for the corpse/meat pile to despawn, it'll drop the loot on the ground. People on Reddit have reported being able to pick up Union PA drops from events that way.

The problem is that they're not just "cool robots." They're fully sapient androids, but the Institute treats them as disposable slaves.

Also, they use that tech to make duplicates of existing people in the Commonwealth, kidnap/kill those people, and replace them with the Synth version. Then the Synth manipulates their community to behave in whatever manner the Institute wants.

Finally, they just perform experiments without ethical guidelines. They replicated the experiments that created Super Mutants, and unleashed them on the surface to create chaos.

I personally like to believe that since the war was just 25 years prior to Reclamation Day, along with being in one of the "best and brightest" vaults, folks were trained on them or at least had the basic suits to move around in. The mining company, Vault-Tec U, government sites, and probably a mix of all the known factions having vets trained in their use made it easier to learn.

Mechanically, we went from using it as "clothing" to a harden shell and I find it funny that people had to be "trained" to wear that bit of "clothing".

To me adaptive triggers were just something to make the PS5 controller more expensive. So I got the PS4 instead. And now I never use it because the controller's battery dies too much, while my xbox controller will go for months on end

Adaptive triggers are fantastic in games that support them. It can actually affect the gameplay based on how far you're pulling the trigger. Not as useful for "pull trigger, get bullet" guns, but anything that can vary in strength is amazing with them.

Yeah, driving games it's great, because you can adjust the throttle & brakes by how hard you pull the triggers.

I don't think there's many PC games that support the adaptive triggers.

Any controller since the 360 and ps3 have had that, where you can controll the acceleration and brake. I use a base Xbox controller for games a lot and I always use the triggers to control the acceleration and brake.

Actually even PS2, but the pressure sensitivity was on the X button and not the triggers. It's how you can get gentle acceleration in PS2 games.

I would assume it is just good for having a more weighty feel, perhaps as you brake harder the trigger gets harder to pull, needing a lot of force for full braking

When I was playing survival mode I would carry 5-10 cures assuming I had them, and save them specifically for diseases I couldn't just deal with until I got to a doctor

Headsup also, radaway raises your disease chance and makes you thirsty
Most chems do but that one's more necessary than, like, jet

Engine improvements are there (which is good), but the need for a Crysis-running PC, what they've done with exploration and proc gen, combined with not learning too too much since Skyrim and FO4, gives me some fears. Coming from the Bethesda games, I also remember not having a great time with the classics at first. The gameplay took a while to grow on me, and my lack of game knowledge led to rather slow starts.

I had a rough time with the beginning of Fallout 2 in particular, primarily because I had no idea what I was doing and created a terrible character that would immediately crumble upon being bitten by a giant ant. I had to spend the first 8-10 hours correcting them.

I started having more fun with both Fallout 1 and 2 as time went on, though. The pace picked up significantly as I learned more about how to play the game, and I eventually started having a fair amount of fun with the combat mechanics as well.

If the fancy strikes you, I would recommend eventually going back to it and giving it another go. The game feels better as more time elapses, if my experience is anything to go by.

I think there should be a hidden ability where if you get all the grenade and thrown weapon perks, have maxed out strength, 1 in intelligence, and take a strength boosting chem, you should be able to chuck mininukes
