It was urban focused but there's massive groups of 20 - 30 out in the field
Gonna play with respawn off tbh
Zombie respawn*
i feel that respawn off, or set to very low levels, makes the most sense to me
if i kill the population of an entire town, they're all dead
722 what? total zombies?
Oh that's respawn time
i dont remember
I had their respawn time at 722
i think thatshow long it takes for things to respawn
It respawns zombies in cells you haven't been in in a while
Yeye
I wonder if it was a horde event or something was wrong
There was an early game survivor house infront of my spawn
AM I DRIPPING OR WHAT
@river veldt
interesting
looking at the article it sounds like he was joking rather than actively ill like the highlighted quote implies
just on that front
just more aware he's like very old
n that the next anniversary is in a decade haha
stepping down is interesting though
i wonder if he's setting up for a sort of retirement
i think this is the first time actively fishing trash has been rewarding
Encountered a dupe bug
in zomboid?
It reset the entire cell except for my vehicle and me so i have 2 shotguns and 6 boxes of shells
Yes, in zomboid
That's what i assume because when the game force closed i had sheets and everything up on the ground floor and it was clear of zeds
When i reloaded, there was a zed inside a room where there isn't a window (so it wouldn't have broken in)
huh
These are only my assumptions on what happened
I'll go see if some windows are fixed because i broke a couple garage windows
@river veldt
reasonable progression
ya definitely
saluting to the man
Why must I be in class at 9:30
If it's a short direct I can catch it
I'll be sleeping in that morning, since it's my first day off after this current work swing. I'll watch the trailer afterwards.
man this looks and feels pretty good on the ole station of the duck
well, whenever the enviroment and the characters aren't actively melting
looks a little blurrier on the recording but on my monitor it looks really crisp with the native resolution at 1440p, must have a 60 fps hack enabled by default too which a lot of emulators nowadays have, I remember Haunting Ground had a default widescreen hack too
did you force PGXP CPU mode? it's required for some games
(latest DuckStation versions are smart enough to do this automatically when the game requires it, thanks to the game database)
for games that don't support PGXP at all, I suggest downsampling instead, so you get an original resolution image that is much smoother than stock. It's less distracting than having vertices wobble all over the place
games with prerendered backgrounds are a good candidate for downsampling
...and now the support folk for tempest rising want me to update my bios to try to fix the issue of it crashing.
Preeeetty sure that has nothing to do with it
I don't think so, but I don't really mind the texture warping worbliness, it only really happens on cutscenes like that and it's fine to me so it's not really a problem
Silent Hill isn't pre-rendered like Resident Evil so probably don't wanna do downsampling either
Okay I see what that setting does now, yeah it does significantly improve the worbliness of the textures and polygons warping and going nuts
I don't mind it personally, but it does go a long way in essentially remastering the game
it's pretty impressive just how good this looked and felt to play, smooth 60 fps, nice high resolution, I didn't check if this had a widescreen patch but if you can somehow get this game on a widescreen resolution and enable the PGXP setting it'd basically be Silent Hill 1 remastered, with none of that ugly AI upscaled texture stuff that so many remaster projects have used for years and years now, game's rendered at a nice 1440p but the textures are nice and low quality, pixelated, crunchy, and that's fine!
I like it
Yup, i was right, the entire cell resetted
West Point was also pretty empty
Like.. 5-25 zeds only? I encountered hordes in my vanilla playthrough
I already looted this garage and it didn't have a generator previously
I also found a breaking bad van
1986 Fleetwood Bounder

this game reminds me of the lighthouse
Didn't find a sledgehammer in my hardware run, might try to hit up the two auto repair shops
"We are safe.
America is safe." what a load of bullshit
My character, who is a police officer, watching General McGrew on TV saying it's contained
Imagine if the Knox Virus was a Hivemind fungus and not an advanced virus strain
So if one horde is dangerously close to being eliminated, the Hivemind backs it up with more
Also encountered bullshit bug
My character stabs a zombie but it doesn't register so a zombie scratched me
My last character got infected with the knox virus from a scratch

The symptoms kept vanishing so I thought it was false infection
There is a hive mind mod
No thanks I'd die
Because I'm sure if one zombie is alerted every zombie in the cell is
Omg West Point, KY, is real????
@minor plover there it is, I set up Descent 🙂
by the way, I'm curious if I should play the D1 campaign with D1X-Rebirth or D2X-Rebirth. I've tried a bit of both and D2X seems to use the higher-resolution HUD and different sounds. I also tried D2X-XL for a bit, but it ran really slowly as soon as I increased any of the settings, and couldn't figure out how to make it perform reasonably well... (on a 9950X3D/5090, mind you)
After setting up DXX-Rebirth, I just saw there's also DXX-Redux which isn't mentioned on the PCGamingWiki page. I only want to play singleplayer though, so not sure if it's actually a better option. I do wish there was a way to increase FOV or have a proper HUD like in D2X-XL though
D2X-XL is basically a vanity project by a guy who makes brilliant lines of code but has bad engineering practices, so it's unstable and bloated and has random cool features that only work sometimes.
Rebirth is fine. Redux is more up to date (mostly with MP fixes and improvements, but I think there's some SP stuff.) Using D2 to run the D1 campaign will give you higher res, but it's unclear to me as to whether everything behaves properly (for example, some weapons have their damage values changed between the games, and I don't know if you'd get the weaker D2 spreadfire if you ran the First Strike campaign in D2.)
also, FWIW, someone ported the entire D1 campaign to Overload. It's definitely a remix -- not the same enemies, not the same weapons -- but it's quite good.
D2X-XL seems to be the DarkPlaces of Descent, I noticed
fun fact: the D2X-XL guy was my first ever internet flamewar. I thought I did something wrong because I was a teenager and this grown man lost his temper at me. Obviously I violated some unwritten rule. Well, no, he was like that with everyone. Absolutely unhinged. At one point he had a full reddit ban -- not a subreddit ban, but like, the whole site. I think he also got banned from slashdot or digg or one of those sites. I have a couple of friends who worked with him on XL who now talk about how it was an abusive experience that they didn't understand. There's just something wrong with the dude, and it's part of why the software isn't what it could be -- he alienates helpers and testers and players, doesn't take advice, and does his own thing.
lol, why do I feel like I've seen this before... 😛
(it's surprisingly common among source ports for old games in general)
see the GZDoom drama recently
also, do you think it's better to play with the CD soundtrack or MIDI?
the CD soundtrack is great for D2
I believe D1's music was pure midi so if you want the authentic experience go with that
and yeah, I saw the GZDoom stuff in the Doom channel
My character got scratched again so I'm hoping it won't evolve
So far so good, she's not getting anxious
oh pog as the kids would say, you can change the outfit uma will wear now. no more questioning my life choices over bikini grandma wheeeeee
wait, the bikini was mandatory?
listen it just feels bad i dont wanna see swimwear horse
The uma thread has breached containment
alas the front running she is, regrettably very good at nyoom
...... aw fuck this isnt the uma thread

Yes, it can't be changed

Vanilla Kingdom Hearts 1 has seen a brand new discovery that changes the course of it's speedrun history forever. This is the story of the discovery of skippable cutscenes in Vanilla KH1, and the development of the Cutscene Remover mod by sh2_luck.
Cutscene Skip Installation Tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozXT_VdHkBU
Twitch: http:/...
i think YouTube is looking at my recommendations like "Wow you're into KH now huh?"
You like Kingdom Hearts, don't you?
i think watching a video on it every day hasn't helped
wall world 2 just came out, would highly recomend it for anyone who enjoys roguelikes
it also has on launch mac support
I didn't like 1
why so?
I don't exactly recall
I liked the concept, but felt like it fell flat in terms of execution. Like they rushed the game out to cash in on dome keeper's market but forgot to put some polish in after release
Definitely sounds like a problem that a sequel could fix
ww2 felt a lil better in that aspect in the playtest atleast vaguely speaking,so might be worth giving it a try eventually
and for those that havent played it at all,the first game often goes on sale for 1$ so id def say its worth picking up
2nd game is mostly just 1 refined,so if you end up liking 1 and its dlc,2 is gonna be just more of that game but slightly better
Hellhole sweet hellhole...
Many have [tried] hard to mod the game to make [cutscene skips] possible ...
I maintain a cutscene skip mod for a different game, so that hit home
I'm a big fan of classic video cutscenes
You just rip out the video file if you want to mod the game to skip them
(And then you find out the devs were expecting the cutscene to last at least 85 and at most 92 seconds)
yeah, half of what I did was playtesting to find cases like "if this cutscene is skipped, the player remains stuck in the floor for eternity"
low-key this is kinda cracked.
especially with how fast Maya can shred an enemy down with stuff like Toxic Cloud and Corrosive Damage buffs
oh hey happy 14th to Skyrim
11/11/11
actually high key i think corrosive damage is better than incendiary at this point
I appreciate that he correctly names the exact cutscene I'm still mad I couldn't skip in the original
Guessing it's the one right before the dragon?
nah, the one before Riku II
which one is that again?
ahhhhh, i thought it was the one where he screams BEHOLD before shanking Maleificent
at least for me, Dragon Maleficent was easy compared to Riku II
though I haven't played these games since before Final Mix existed
one thing i learned from Chuggaaconroy tho:
Stop (and its variants) work on anything
those miscellaneous spells are soooo situational
kinda like in the first Pokemon Orre game the one ghost type you can catch has Levitate so the AI just breaks trying to hit it with Ground moves
Somehow it works on more than you think
oop, ping
The title says it all.
Inspired by LPCatchPhrases.
From Chuggaaconroy: http://www.youtube.com/user/chuggaaconroy/
Pokemon Colesseum | Part 7: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7lIG7eTQrQ
also i mispoke, it was Normal moves they AI kept trying to use
again, the one Ghost Type you can catch in Orre
I remember playing the OG Descent and Descent II on a Pentium system, with a CH Flightstick Pro.
And that makes me a grayfeather for sure
Which surprises me they still make the thing (though it has a USB port instead of a "game port" serial connector)

||are they the lesbians?||
🐑 🧎
||yeah nights was on the back of the boxart||
Yes, they are! Not explicitly said in the comics, but Ian Flynn has all but confirmed that they're dating. Hell, one of their best moments is them holding hands while smiling at each other, with the lesbian flag colors in the background.
It's as blatant as you can make it without outright saying that yes they are lesbians. And to be honest, Tangle always gave off lesbian energy from the very moment she appeared, so it's fitting.

I found a dev build of DXX-Rebirth, it's a lot nicer to play as it lets you adjust FOV in singleplayer with e.g. -render-zoom 25000

what skyrim mod did you find to make whiterun look like that
in BL2 it is, yeah
over half the campaign is hyperion enemies so
bosses like bunker and wilhelm are weak to corrosive too iirc they just don't have the proper colored healthbar
and you don't see it on bunker bc the good and proper way to fight bunker is having 1 point in b0re on zero to kill it instantly

Aw hecc yeah, the Analogue3D is finally shipping next week
what is an Analogue 3D?
It’s a N64 clone console built with a FPGA and with modern features like HDMI output and such. It’s by the same company that made the Analogue Pocket, arguably the best GB/GBC/GBA clone console made so far. Both of these things play the original physical game cartridges

You can now use a supported monitor or TV to play steam games

Announcing new Steam Hardware from Valve: Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame are coming in 2026. Just like Steam Deck, all three devices are optimized for Steam and designed for players to get even more out of their Steam library.
I’m getting this
Microsoft/Sony: "We're moving away from consoles."
Valve: "I for one, accept this challenge."
I read the progression more like
Microsoft/Sony: "PC parts have gotten so good we might as well make our consoles out of them."
Valve: "But what if... we made actual PCs, except small."
i like the controller
just a steam deck without the screen

Huh. The VR rig can just straight up run games on its own.
I'm honestly tempted to replace my normal desktop with a Steam Machine.
It's finally here: Steam Frame is Valve's new virtual reality headset, and we spend a day at Valve going hands-on with the new hardware, alongside the newly announced Steam Machine and Steam Controller! Here's everything you need to know about this standalone headset, how it plays both VR and flatscreen games, and Valve's unique approach to stre...
I thought Steam Machines were discontinued? did they go for that again?
Yeah, the old "Steam Machine" was just desktop PCs sold by third party companies, and didn't really work well.
Valve just reused the name for their own machine.
also, I've always wanted a Steam Controller but by the time I wanted one, they were already discontinued, so hearing about them coming back makes me incredibly happy, I just hope they don't cost a lung and a kidney
Not entirely convinced about the design, it looks really weirdly bulky at first glance but there is a video of Digital Foundry messing around with it so I'll check it out later
If Valve is really making their own machine, man, that paired with SteamOS I can see it giving Microsoft some competition
Probably not gonna completely replace Windows but I can see a lot of people just kinda having windows on a different device, maybe a cheap laptop for work related purposes and then just using the GabeCube for gaming and anything else that can be compatible with it like Discord and maybe browsing the internet
depending on whatever is compatible with SteamOS thus far
Yeah, I don't actually wind up using my desktop for much in the way of productivity apps. So a Steam Machine would be good enough for most of my needs, and I've got a Macbook for the rest.
I think this was just posted
has some more info and specs and all that
i hope it can only play minecraft and other voxel based games /s

It's the hardware we've been waiting for. Built on SteamOS, Valve's brand-new Steam Machine runs the same games that Steam Deck does, with 6x the graphics horsepower - all built into a super-cute, premium, cube-like design. Oliver...
interesting
you'll be playing more demanding games through streaming anyway
oh this is the machine, not the frame. I always get confused
so they were able to get Cyberpunk running at 1440p 60fps, when they turned on the ray tracing it was kinda dropping to around 30 ish but that sounds pretty good to me, and they insist here they wanna keep the vram at 8 gb because of the price point, so I'm hoping that it's not gonna be a super high end machine but it's gonna be really good for most games and hopefully at a reasonable price, which wouldn't be too weird for Valve considering that I seem to remember they did sell the steam deck at somewhat of a loss intentionally
it'd be really cool to give people that would otherwise not game on a PC the ability to basically have a highly customizable console they can use as a PC with good specs too
or people that would otherwise be unable to justify building a PC for whatever reason, they can get this instead
8GB of VRAM? Eh...
Very middle of the road these days
Or really, kinda the bare minimum
I gotta say, they nailed the design of these. Very handsome aesthetics
I was just thinking to myself how I might want to wait a bit longer before getting a new VR headset as something new may be on the horizon. I actually expected a Quest successor but this announcement is kinda better and also exactly what I was looking for in VR
The streaming with a wireless adapter is brilliant and I hope it works well
Yeah, it's pretty much the go-to approach for most people
Interested to see how well it works
I’m thinking frame + deck with dock and I desperately need a new steam controller. Mine is fine but I was so worried about it breaking
Every other controller I’ve used has been worse than it
they're targeting core gamers while Quest was still on the metaverse bandwagon
but when you look at what people actually use the Quest for... the Frame makes a lot more sense
Heh... meanwhile I hate the steam controller and consider it one of the worst ones I've ever used
Kinda only bested by the Ouya's amazingly terrible gamepad

I also haven't touched my Quest 2 in a good... 8 months or so

Mostly because my controllers are drifting to the point they are near unusable even with recalibration. I've attempted manual repair but it didn't help much
My current one I upgraded from a GTX 1650 has 6GB vram
I spend 4-6 hours minimum in VR every week
I guess we'll have to wait until the eventual price reveal I think is what's gonna come down to
Something about the ergonomics + touch pads and gyros just feels nice and flexible for gaming. I’ll add anything and everything to steam as a non-steam game so I can use steam input and emulate mouse and keyboard with it
It lets me use a controller even on games that don’t support it and it works well
If it's a relatively affordable device then I think 8gb vram is gonna be quite acceptable
Quick guesses based on nothing (in USD)
Steam Controller: ~$100
Steam Machine: ~$700
Steam Frame: ~$600
Meanwhile my gamepads are, virtually, like this when I'm playing space sims. Meta keys ahoy!
One button has potentially five total bindings, depending on the meta key being used
I'm not big on VR just yet, but I really want that Steam Controller personally. I like the versatility
Agreed
Ooh, kinda big spec I noticed: Looks like you do not need an additional accessory to use the Frame with glasses as long as your glasses are 140mm wide or less
I've sorta fallen off of VR because aside from Beat Saber and HL:Alyx I haven't really come across any killer apps even after all this time.
I still play Beat Saber for exercise sometimes even after all these years. HL:Alyx was fantastic and sets the bar for VR game quality. And things like SuperhotVR, Walkabout Minigolf, and a myriad of other neat one-off indie games were fun, but replayability wasn't really there?
And I've never been a voice chat kind of person, so I just couldn't get into vrchat. (This is before I get to the "I don't have friends, so no reason to use vrchat anyway" part)
Some other exercise apps like Superhuman have been handy, but eh
Huh, neat
I only do simracing in VR
I wear contacts most of the time but there are days when I am super extra mega lazy and don't even wanna do that so if I have times I wanna do VR but don't wanna go through the trouble of putting on contacts that's just an accessibility bonus
Word of warning: a lot of the people who live in VRchat are kind of weird and maladapted lol
But it’s a nice place to socialize and make friends and party without having to worry about designated drivers or safety
Yeah, I know
I have a group of friends I’ve made there now that I see 1-2 times a week and we haven’t missed a beat
We just chill and sit down and chat
Real talk; since the faceplate on the cube is customizable and Valve showed off an e-ink front, do you think someone’s going to make a front panel with controller ports that makes it look like a GameCube?
Only a matter of time
welcome back the Duke controller
Looks like the Machine will have 512GB and 2TB models
A bit disappointed that storage expansion is intended to be done with an SD card and the internal storage doesn't appear to be replaceable
I don't think they'd officially make anything that might resemble the gamecube because nintendo would definitely have problems with that but I do think they're gonna make it as easy as possible for people to customize it as much as they want to
Though the Machine is the hardware I am least likely to buy as I already have a PC and have little to no interest in playing on a larger screen
According to conversations the GN team had with Valve, the Machine is meant to be priced "like an entry level PC" and not like a console, so my $700 seems like even more of a fair guess. The Frame they were told "will not exceed the price of the Index," though they were not told which configuration of the Index so it could be anywhere from $500-800.
(I'm skimming through the video)
Oh interesting, this controller has an additional modifier so that you can turn off gyro aiming by lifting your fingers off the controller so you can reposition your arms or hands without worrying about the game picking up on your movement
that's really great
I'm glad to hear based on the digital foundry video that this controller feels way better than the og one, I never disliked the original one but it's good to hear this one feels better designed
yeah Steam Deck has that too it's really cool
though i dont use Gyro very much
I may be wrong about storage upgradeability. GN doesn't talk about it in the video but there are shots that show what definitely looks like a very accessible SSD
GabeCube and Gabe Gear
It reminds me of how you’re not supposed to replace the m.2 ssd on the steam deck because they chose specific ones for reasons, but you can
I get motion sick in cars so I figure VR would kill me. I need to find a way to rent a VR setup so I can play Alyx
also still has an original steam controllers somewher around here
Steam Frame looks awesome
Possibly the biggest downside that DF mentions at the very end of the video is the lack of compatibility with games that might require kernel level anti cheat because of SteamOS which I do think could be a big downside of this machine
but they do mention that previously Valve did work with some developers to allow workarounds for the Steam Deck but of course not every game that might use anti cheats like this so that could definitely be one of the biggest downsides to this

Valve has announced the Steam Frame, Steam Mac...
i imagine that this would be a problem for older games, but newer titles were already being developed for the steamdeck in mind
at least i assume so
so newer titles will probably have workarounds and solutions for it
of course some executives are fucking morons so who knows
Depends I honestly don't know much about it because I don't really have much experience with SteamOS and such but they say pretty confidently at the end that titles like Battlefield 6 will just not run on the Steam Machine, I don't know if that's due to them already being unable to find a workaround to get the game running on Linux or something
which might be another downside since Battlefield 6 has been really popular and people have been really liking it so that does suck

sounds like they're targeting a price lower than the index at the very least, whoever reported it says "there are other hints that it won't be as expensive as competitors"
Valve has managed to vertically integrate itself and create an ecosystem that will only draw more users over time, and because of that and their private ownership they tend to make weird decisions like aggressively underpricing hardware, moreso than competitors
i seriously doubt they're getting it as low at the quest, but with them doing an lcd instead of oled display, having monochrome passthrough out of the box with an expansion port, it sounds like they learned from the index being $1k for years
no flagship vr title from them to go with it (at least yet), but hopefully it's priced low enough to give vr gaming a bit of a boost
with all the leaks and rumors, now that they have a "console" of their own, a half life 3 announcement really wouldn't surprise me as well
i need to replay alyx sometime, really good game
i know it would be missing the point but i would really love a flat version so i could play on my Deck
it really wouldn't be anywhere near as enjoyable im afraid. there are decent mods (haven't tried, myself) to try and adapt everything to normal controls, but the base game ai and level design is based around being in vr and struggling to physically aim
maybe workshop mods can do something larger scale to accomodate for playing it that way
If it runs on Linux it runs in SteamOS
i don't have problems with getting sick or w/e, but i feel bad for people who can't build up a tolerance to it and play through as intended
at least the cost of vr is way way down
it sounds like they're trying to get alyx working on the frame standalone but it's not 100% set in stone
i'm assuming that's more on the software side of things, trying to get everything working on the arm chip
I hope they do. Alyx was really well made as a gaiden game to Half-Life 2
i suppose i could watch a playthrough
it's probably the most enjoyable way to experience it if you don't think you'll ever be able to do vr, just find a streamer you enjoy maybe

I am not interested in the game but I like that the trailer has a sense of humour
"you grew up without parents"
Shows you using a bell like a sound cannon
Ah yes, the typical activities of orphans.
Seriously this trailer is really funny, props to them
The trailer's funny, but I wish they mixed the sound and voice-over better.
Unless that was also part of the joke, where you can't hear what they're saying, then it'd be even funnier
Finished watching Jack play Dispatch. It's definitely GOTY
speaking of VRAM, I can never remember how to check mine; is it the "GPU Memory" stat in Task Manager's GPU sections?
dedicated GPU memory
lol, Windows tells me I have 32 GB of shared GPU memory

The lion's roar!
(one of my favorite mlp videos, lost to time, is someone splicing this + the "LOUDEEEEER" cheer scene. It was so good)
I keep narrowly escaping with my life with this new character in project zomboid
Scratched scratched lacerated scratched
Drove my RV right into a fucking migrating horde
I like that they put the Frame's battery in the back padding so that it also doubles as a counter-weight. Clever
meanwhile the quest 3 is 541 grams hanging off the front of your face
Sony and NCSoft are developing Horizon Steel Frontiers, a new MMO
Ooo!
designed ‘specifically for mobile.’
Oh…
Also
A new Ratchet & Clank game
Ooo!
for iOS and Android
Oh…
Dammit, Sony
I’m not joking

I mean there was one already but...
Well, that increases my will of potentially selling my PS5.
goddam that steam machine got me way too hyped, finally something that I was looking for
I guess I'm going to be selling my quest 3 in the future
eyetracking + dedicated wifi 6 dongle that works + better controllers is already a big value add. apparently the inside out tracking uses wide FOV cameras that can maintain tracking with your arms behind your head, or at least moreso than quest
where your arms are locked shoulder forward
No wonder sony was suing tencent for that horizon clone~
And god damnit. Designed for mobile. "And PC" but that's not really gonna help
this was kinda funny thou, cause they were asking for sony permission and sony said no but they did it anyway, welp at least they tried

oh i know, i love the horizon games so i've been following that
Man, after watching that video, that's literally monster hunter wearing a Horizon trench coat

well that would've been useful, two months ago
this is going to be a huge ''well I beat Radahn before the nerfs'' moment but for SH players lol
was there an infamous boss or something in this game? I've not watched any footage, but I had assumed it was a horror game, not like, dark souls or something
Hardest difficulty can get surprisingly tough for a Silent Hill game, proper Dark Souls style ''I gotta retry that boss a couple times and get the patterns right'' type of difficult, and particularly during the last section of the game, and I do mean the very last section, there is an annoyingly high number of forced combat sections back-to-back which is fine the first time around but during replays gets very repetitive and annoying
huh, fair enough
also hey, game is on GOG now

https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/570/view/555756515113304416?l=english speaking of monster hunter, this is the first time i saw valve did this btw
It's open season on the world's most dangerous heroes, and you're just the hero we need to track them all down. We're happy to announce a massive Dota/Monster Hunter crossover with new sets, new pets, a new in-game hunt and crafting system, and of course monsters. (For everyone who thinks Dragon Knight turning into a dragon is awesome but would ...
while the combat is soulslike, I don't think any particular boss was a blocker, it's more that experiencing the complete story requires multiple playthroughs so you really want that to be accessible to as many players as possible (even I lowered the difficulty on replays)
so... dragon knight, beastmaster, sniper, wind ranger and... who's the last one?
anti-mage (persona)
oh god dispatch is fun
i love this dialogue
my first dispatch is to seriously get a balloon out of a tree???
that is very funny tho
people should buy this game
Looks like I'm going to make the great trek to Rosewood
I may get stuck in the highways along the way tho
West point to Rosewood, I'll have to hit up the gigamart one last time, i have enough ammo
Around 1 entire case of shotgun shells from Vanilla Firearms Expanded which is 4 packs of shotgun shell boxes and each back has 4 boxes of shotgun shells
Each box give 30 i think
So around 1,920 shotgun rounds in one case!
Clearing west point and blocking up an entire block sounds like a sick as fuck project tho
Woodbury but West Point, KY
From what I heard people saying about this, this is another GOTY contender, people absolutely love it
at first i thought it was some Invincible spinoff, lol
its not
how hard is the "don't make the child cry" part
well the idea of the game is that you're a washed up superhero put in charge of a bunch of repro... i mean ex-villains trying to turn their lives around
ironically the person i chose to send was an ex-assasin for the mob
its a weird game! you've got a telltale style story and also a decent dispatch style game, like 911 dispatch
you gotta chose what to tell people, who will remember that, and you gotta chose what heros to send to what call, and there are a lot of calls
Dispatch is so cool
also the voice acting is great
the main character, mechaman, aka Robert Robertson the third, is voiced by Aaron Paul (Jesse from breaking bad) and he does an amazing job with him
one of your team is voiced by jacksepticeye
theres moistcritical there as well iirc
right
but hes not a youtuber i particularly care about so i didnt mention him
How a game company commits suicide.... https://www.eurogamer.net/after-south-korean-publisher-krafton-announced-its-transforming-into-an-ai-first-company-its-now-offering-employees-voluntary-resignation
remember when companies tried getting into NFTs?
To be fair, some companies did put out Nfts, but not many companies tried to become NFT companies if that makes sense
This is more similar to the dot Com bubble
remember that Rayman's latest iteration was in a NFT game.
(that was after the Mario & Rabbids DLC)
Basically just taking about AI right now inflates the value of your company overnight so it's really hard for them to not at least pay lip service to it
Most of them are probably not doing anything meaningfully different from before
Except spending a few thousand bucks trying to convince shareholders that are taking AI integration seriously
Bingo
Ubisoft just postponed their earnings report and suspended the trading of their stock. I guess they’re about to get bought out or something.
Let's hope it's someone not too horrible
I’m not going to be surprised if it’s the Saudi PIF again
Ubisoft is the first season villain, the one that is a real antagonist but still has some honor and is dwarfed in villainy by the 2nd season villain.
And we are like at season 17, I'd hate to see them get absorbed by some actually evil bad guy now.
that is such an amazing way to describe them
I believe that the takeover is venture capital related rather than another game corp
I was wondering when people were gonna start talking about this game over here
I played the first episode's demo when it came out, I got super into episode 1 and 2, I was waiting before all episodes came out to get it and play it all myself
It fits so well.
Remember their fist actual sin was to remake Assassins Creed 25 times and in different flavours for every franchise they made.
It sounds so passé now, they put too many radio towers in their games, who cares.
Now they came out with some NFT nonsense and it was a good escalation in villany but it still pales compared to what the actual NFT games were doing.
aggressively American
the banjo really ties it all together

Hearing the intro of Welcome to VA-11 HALL-A is just
peak comfy
i'm not even reading, i'm just vibin'
Yeah, the missus and her ki- wait wha-
been a tad.
can't wait for N1RV Ann-A
yessss
it would be quite shocking if Valve forgot to do that
So, apparently there's a rumor going around that there's a truly MASSIVE game announcement coming soon that will completely destroy all hype for GTA 6.
I'm taking it with a grain of salt for now, but even so, Valve's old gears and engines starting to roar again and cranking out tons of new stuff is very suspicious.
something is rumored for the 18th
Kirby on the 20th
Valve needs to bring portal back in some way lol
Need more chell
they technically did for the steam deck with the Aperture Desk Job app
Portal Stories: Mel
Im happy with how Portal ended ngl
Portal had a perfect ending yeah
and bringing back the voices of Glados and Cave Johnson as announcers for Dota 2
I dont think there needs to be a third one
Wasn't aperture desk job vr
im injecting hopium like no one else
no it's a Steam Deck game
Also a third official one would be cool
The closest we'll get to Portal 3 is Chell and GLaDOS in the worst Lego game
lol
That's the closest we should get, even
lol
if I had a nickel every time a game was rumored...
Also valve can't even count to 3 lol
Left 4 dead 3 had been in development at one point afaik but ended up not ever being released
All we have is this single screenshot
that looks an awful lot like Sirocco in CS:GO Danger Zone, I wonder if the assets were repurposed
im trying to find the picture of Gordon being injected with hope
Probably yeah
It was first being worked on around 2016 but got shelved because they couldn't decide between using source 2 and unreal engine iirc
It's not like Portal didn't leave the door open for more going on, and after so much time the connection with the Half Life universe is undeniable, so we know that that whole thing is going on in the background, or maybe it already happened and this is a post-Combine Earth, plus Half Life is still unfinished story-wise
Portal isn't one of those games that ended so perfectly another sequel is absolutely off the table, there's still some more you could do with that if you wanted so I wouldn't be mad about a Portal 3, but that's the thing, valve has to want to make that game happen, and if Valve can't really find a reason for the game to exist and push any new tech or gameplay mechanics forward then it's just not going to happen
they literally just announced three new devices though
lol
also, I just finished watching the Half-Life documentary, 2 years after it came out
I watched it with my parents, they thought it was pretty good
props for having French subtitles
yes, the one they made for Valve
yeah that one's great
they got to witness Gaben's legendary beard
i still need to watch the Half Life 2 one
I just really want chell back in some form of games or media
Even if it's not a full on installment
She's like one of my all time favorite fictional characters besides lola bunny and ep2 and ep3 padme from star wars
Supposedly this is coming from a guy who has correctly leaked stuff before. I'm still unsure though.
Hell I'd even take valve letting the portal costumes come back in fall guys lol
a boy can dream
Though that'll probably never happen any time soon sadly
I guess we'll have to wait and see, supposedly the announcement was this month so if this month goes by and nothing comes up it's likely there won't be any new Valve game news or anything
we got some concepts too iirc
at least i remember it being that way idr
yeahh it was some really aesthetically different stuff
here's a collection of all 29 leaked map screenshots
two character concepts back in 2013, there were two other sets of two also but like yk
it kind of checks out that L4D3 assets ended up in late CS:GO, since L4D2 assets ended up in early CS:GO
yeahh
I found a newspaper in Zomboid that's from July 5th 1993, there's an article about foul smell... That's the zomboids
B?
whatever, I'll take it
apparently not even 10% of players even do a Claire Hardcore run anyways so I got that cheevo
the last Birkin fight was the absolute worst, mainly because of the camera
not because the camera was bad, just because this fight was designed with free-look in mind so you can shoot him while he's on the walls but because of the fixed angles whenever he was doing that I couldn't see him at all
I was also running low on healing during this entire lab part so I only had the one aid spray and graciously the game does have one G and R herbs, unfortunately I got stuck on the side of the tram and ate two hits (which hit way harder in Hardcore), I was about ready to just give up and load the last save again but apparently I used up all my bad luck with those two hits because I managed to completely dodge every other hit while I was on caution after that
I also kept having this really funny but annoying problem where zombies stack up on a certain door I passed by earlier and completely blocking me from even entering
not because they're in the way and you have to shoot them, they literally won't even let me open the door
the one advantage of rooms having loading screens from the original games is avoiding this by resetting enemy positions, I wish they reset when you exit the room in this
It happened immediately after that clip during this part with the two lickers in this hallway too in one of the various runs I did, I was already anticipating it this time so I made sure to get the zombie by the door quickly and I knew where one of the lickers was even though I couldn't see him from the door, but when I shot at him hoping to bait him to swing at the door where he couldn't get me I guess the devs thought about that and programmed the licker to just scurry away if you're shooting at it from the other room
the cruel part is that that licker will just hang out with one more zombie at the end of that hallway and that would be fine if there wasn't another licker in the ceiling that will just teleport directly towards you if it hears you shoot at the other one
like a homing missile
Pffft. Looking again at that horizon MMO that was announced. They say that their character creator allows a great degree of freedom and variety
...so why do the ladies' faces all look the same
Why do they look so uncanny
south korean design team, I feel like this happens a fair bit there
I really hope Valve figures this out soon, developers will not try to figure this out and a 3% marketshare is still a 3% marketshare.
It'd be wild to see BF6 on the Steam Machine.
https://youtu.be/OXimPIY6qI0?si=Yn8Hj-RVQ0KfGQWa this is great

Yeah, this is something that Valve will need to figure out along with anticheat developers. It’s a “small” number of games, but that covers… a LOT of major games.
I really really really want this to succeed, they have the momentum.
Still don't like that they're a... well.. accepted monopoly... but the other options aren't that great either.
GOG gets close but their client is still a mess, maybe they'll make a linux client with this. But who knows.
Happily, absolutely none of the games I have and want to play use kernal-level anticheat (presumably, since I game on Mac so it seems like it would break equally well there).
A Steam Machine wouldn't be a bad option if and when I actually have somewhere I can set up for gaming...
Oh hey, Hades II is 20% off.
Three games this week
might check out scourge
Not a single fucking purple. Let alone an orange.
Oooh, Slay the Spire 2 is taking a leaf out of Hades it looks like
Well, the framing gives me Hades vibes, gameplay wise this is the mechanical replacement of Boss Relics
Hope they hire an editor
I like the idea of not actually picking a Relic and instead having a "special path", presumably one that would make your run stronger in the long run, rather than a more temporary buff like Wax Choker would do
Anonymous asks: Can we get more of the pear? I really like pears, maybe it could be as an enemy that spits pear juice or a card that includes a pear.
Casey: If you like pears, why would you want an enemy that spits pear juice? That seems disrespectful
okay I know they're referring to the Shelled Parasite/Avacado but I would like to see more of the pear myself
tho preferably not with the Relic I had the other day that gave a random enemy 10 Plated Armor... On top of the 16 the Shelled Parasite had.

Finally some actual insight into whatever is actually happening in this game
time to google prices...
I guess the big question for me is how big the quality gap is between Switch 1 and 2 versions, since I have a Switch already but no other reason to buy a Switch 2
yeah okay, that's one way to show how that would look like in action
schlorp
OORRRRBBBBB
and npcs that can help out, I don't know if any of the other prime games did that but that looks neat, the guys with the rifles remind me too much of Halo soldiers though
Prime 3 had other troopers in it, but they weren’t exactly helping in any way
They were background/cinematic noise
Actually, I would need to re-check how the Pirate Homeworld played out in one sequence
But I’m pretty sure there’s no gameplay segment where other NPCs are helping you engage enemies that you engage with
yeah I'm not certain whether or not they were useless, but they were at least there and helped with immersion and all
i like how Nintendo is just giving all their characters motorcycles now
I think it's the combination of sci-fi military setting, plus your character being way beyond the regular troops more like a superhero than a typical military story. Which you'd think we'd have several examples of by now but it's kinda just Halo I guess???
Mario needs a motorcycle now
true
the magic interdimensional taxi was not enough
Also I find it hilarious that the Zelda series director admitted that he was like literally the only person on the BotW team who thought that Link’s motorcycle was a good idea
hey i thought it was awesome
“Fortunately I’m in charge, so fuck all y’all” - Eiji, probably
Yeah it's the rifle shape plus armored guy in a space planet fighting aliens, plus other similar soldier-y people being around all with that slightly militaristic vibe, I think no matter what story it's in it always reminds me of Halo, maybe Alien too but Alien soldiers are a bit more of a helmet plus camo pants plus a ton of tactical stuff and big weapons all over them instead of sleek hi tech armors
I saw that first npc start shooting and thought damn this reminds me of the first Halo CE level
and in Alien there are no superpeople on the good side
It looks really good too just visually speaking I do think it's probably gonna be best enjoyed on Switch 2, I think they should definitely release footage of how the Switch 1 version looks and performs so people can see for themselves
Yeah, it’s pretty much only Halo. It’s really hard to set up that kind of trope without being… extremely cheesy
I guess Doomguy might count?
Maybe?
I suspect it's because most stories that want the military setting want it to be more grounded and keep the protagonist at a similar power level, while most stories that want the protagonist to be godlike will also want to make a bunch of other characters godlike and then you've got the whole Justice League running around
also Prime 3 is basically one of those Justice League episodes where the bad guy mind controls 90% of the League until Batman invents a cure or something
You can compare the first trailer with the most recent ones and they appear to be Switch 1 and then Switch 2. But it could also just be additional overall polish since initial reveal, so who knows?
There’s a substantial improvement in visual fidelity since the initial gameplay trailer
Doomguy mostly ends up alone amongst enemies all the time so he doesn't usually end up at the supersoldier vibe
well, of course the Switch 2 version will be better, the question is will it be £390 better
also this specific shot reminds me of the Halo 4 forest level
, until you add the weird bird
lol that's so weird to leave this footage until the very end and not show some of this before, but hey I guess there's gonna be regular metroidvania sections in this too
hmmmmmmmm.......
the drastic difference in the dirt path kinda makes me think it's just more polish and not necessarily a version difference, just because it would be such a big change between versions to make
yeah trailers are heavily biased in what they choose to show, for a lot of reasons I can't really fault them for
but it's part of why I almost never watch them
I assume it's a mix of Switch 1 vs Switch 2 and a year of polish
I want to play Metroid Prime 4, so I hope it runs good on the Switch 1
The initial reveal was definitely running on a Switch 1
But now they're using the Switch 2 version to market it
realistically, I'm probably gonna get it on Switch 1 now that I know that's an option, and just eschew the S2 entirely for the forseeable future
graphical fidelity rarely matters to me
You'll have the option to get the upgrade pack later if you're so inclined
("eschew" is such a weird word)
announcement trailer / overview trailer
segue
there's 100% more polish and slight changes you can see some of the proportions of the armor changing but I do also think maybe the first one is also running on Switch 1 because it does look significantly lower fidelity
but I mean, it still looked good on the first trailer
it just looks better-er on the switch 2
Apparent adjustments to her landing pose in the opening cutscenes
Trailer 1 and Survive trailer
the superhero landing is important
''thank god I have kneepads''
She's also more glowy now
good
The helmet looks very Dread-ish style and the armor looks slightly more sleek but not as much as Dread
Yep, this takes place a few years before Dread I think?
poor Power Suit, most of the latest games haven't even bothered with it by now, it's the Varia suit from the beginning
to be fair, having the progression focus more on new upgrades is better than having her trip and drop the Varia suit every single time she steps out of the ship
the power suit in Dread isn't even actually the power suit, it's just the Varia suit but smaller, which honestly I like way better than the Wolverine style shoulder pad thingies, I never liked the look of the Power suit, I like the difference in bulkiness on her chest vs the sleeker waist and legs, power suit looks too uniform all around and it looks strange
to be even more fair, the starting suit is probably supposed to look like it's missing something, since she is
at this point if samus kept losing all her powerups again the federation would probably start wondering if she's even actually that good after all
Raven Beak I can excuse because he was just absurdly strong so she gets a pass for that, it was also the first non remake Metroid game in a while, so sure give new players the experience of losing all their stuff in the beginning and having to re-acquire it like the original Metroids
Yep! Canonically it’s a partial version of the actual Chozo armor, almost a training edition of it
like many designs, it kinda looks much better in drawings than in a 3D model
Fusion also gets a pass from me because of the whole fundamentally changing Samus' biology thing, including new starting powers she never had before
It's been years since I played Zero Mission so I don't actually remember if it's supposed to be extra power ups or if it's actually that the suit was always meant to be a bit unfinished sort of
(It’s unfinished)
Of course the real answer is that the aesthetics for a cool space suit over time have completely changed from the 80s obviously, and it's cool to see how much of that original design remained throughout all the different redesigns over the years
The Varia Suit is granted to her in the epilogue segment after passing a final Chozo test
I believe the manga actually explains it
plus, the first game and remakes thereof are exempt from this problem by definition, she didn't have the stuff to lose yet
But in essence, the Varia Suit is the fully unlocked version with all of the technologies available to her
the Primes are probably where the "tripped and lost her powers" trope felt weirdest
Yeah
At least in Prime 3 it was done well
“Dark Samus put you in a coma for a month and in that time the Federation decided to install the PED suit onto your suit, hope you don’t mind”
(Also she didn’t lose anything anyway)
Prime 1 is probably the silliest
yeah
at least in 2 a bunch of dark critters were yanking the stuff off of you, and then in theory you're hunt down those critters later
“There was an explosion and it just happened to be bad for the suit because she hit the wall in a bad way”
Yeah
Prime 1 is as close as canon got to her literally just tripping
Then again, Other M is just criminal
and then I'm led to believe Other M is basically:
''No Samus don't pick up that power up yet''
''why''
''I didn't give you permission to''
you'll forgive me for having forgotten all the story details of Other M
“I could activate features of my suit so that I don’t die, but Adam hasn’t specifically authorized me to do that, so…”
She didn’t need permission! That’s the worst part! She just specifically and arbitrarily decided that she did!
She was not a part of the Federation and so was not actually bound to the chain of command
She just did that because she loved him and so wanted his approval and therefore acted as if she was under his command
It’s so stupid
Did it for old times sake
Nothing more

I've read that the japanese version is weirdly completely different to the point people have made entire conversion mods to have the original japanese dialogue and story with english texts
It is!
TIL
The English version is a bad translation of the Japanese connotations
I only played the local version once, never had a reason to go looking at alternatives
There's a lot that's lost in translation
(And the Japanese version also has it's own version of bad writing)
The English version is just more egregious
Other M is just a bizarre clusterfuck
Yeah I'm not gonna say the difference made it a hidden gem or anything but I did hear it significantly alters the characters
if I somehow became a youtuber, comparisons like that would probably be my primary content
No reason not do it, you don't even necessarily have to become a youtuber or anything, I've made similar video essays about stuff like the ones we share sometimes just for fun since some years now
though I think we did share one time a certain channel that does that exact same thing before
with Zelda games just going through the entire translation stuff from Japanese

My Emot...
yep I've seen these
I mean doing it competently is a huge time investment, like what I'm putting into modding in this timeline. There are only enough hours in the day for so many hobbies.
I must've been halfway through watchin the ALTTP one because it's marked red on the halfway point for me, guess I'll finish watching it then
Yeah I understand, it's fun to do though honestly even as a one off thing
Just in general though that feeling of feeling like there's a specific type of content you wanna see but no one's doing it, or no one's doing it about the specific thing you like so you just do it yourself, hell even not just video-making but making in general, like mods too
I know if I actually had any knowledge of coding and modding or whatever goes into all that I would've probably gotten to work on trying to make an actual Soul Reaver randomizer for example
oh ya metroid prime and halo have been compared to each other since forever
metroid prime 2 and halo 2 coming out within a week of each other really fanned that flame then
also really i think it's maybe a sci-fi thing
doom, metroid and halo are all heavily inspired by alien(s)
which i guess like, you have the lone badass protag fighting against these freaky monsters on another planet, it's just huge rule of cool fuel in a way
sci-fi also lets you have weird unique weapons and you can just say those aliens/demons are actually really intelligent so it makes the player even cooler, you just have to take advantage of the setting
half life sort of fits into that, too
Half Life and Doom my beloveds
i'm with the science team!
Half-Life's a weird one since on paper Gordon Freeman doesn't have any super soldier training or cyborg gear or alien gene splicing, just a pile of normal human weapons and a few scavenged alien things
but he's often framed and treated like a superheroic figure, even in-universe
tbf he did kill an interdimensional being that was enslaving the Vortigaunts
he is quite the guy
in that case they're def playing more into gordon being resourceful and cunning, kind of the most ripley of them all
He does have the HEV suit, which while not unique definitely gives him a boost compared to normal dudes with guns.
oh yeah
i like how
let me find the comment actually
this comment i found on Civvie's HL2 video sums up what i like about Gordon as a protagonist
And "Freeman's Mind" makes him seem even more (admittedly broken) human
It's absolutely hilarious. Author "describes Gordon's personality as having "shifting paranoia, egomania, mild schizophrenia, over-aggressiveness, petty motivations, and immaturity in general", and that "the only hint I thought they gave to his personality was how proficient he immediately was in weaponry for being a physicist."
And it somehow works

... Huh, did not realise they also did the Stop Killing Games thing
Yep, that's the same guy. Which is probably why the most recent ep of freeman's mind is 2 years ago
oh is he doing HL2 now ?
mp4,silksong,terraria 1.4.5,whats next? hl3 trailer?
a boy can dream
HL3 announcement isn't out of the question at this point, given that Valve has woken up and probably wants a system seller for their upcoming Steam Machine and Frame
There's speculation that they announced the new hardware first to make sure it doesn't get overshadowed when they eventually announce the next Half-Life, soon™
i fucking love this game lol
superman is depressed? give him heavy medication!
If half life 3 comes out, I might look into the first two
Phenomaman makes me laugh so much
even if it doesn't, you should still check em out. some of the best shooters ever made imo
and I doubt HL3 will end on any less of a cliffhanger than the first two
there's four, actually
or seven, even, if want to count those
Half Life
Blue Shift
Opposing Force
Half Life Alyx
Half Life 2
HL2: Episode 1
HL2: Episode 2
Half Life Alyx (again)
I really don't know why they did the whole episode thing for half life 2
maybe it was gaben japanse naming scheme arc
If it kept going it'd have gotten as bad as Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R
eh, i don't think Blue Shift or Decay are worth playing tbh. maybe Opposing Force but that's a big maybe. Alyx is also tricky since it requires a VR headset and not everypony has one
OF and BS are fun but they're definitely "if you finished HL1 and you feel like more of that", nothing you'd bring up around someone who isn't even interested in HL1 yet
yeah
I've always assumed they expected to do more than 2 "episodes"
they did
really not beating the "can't count to 3" allegations
i think they talk about ideas they had for Episode 3 in that HL2 documentary i havent watched yet
Gets to a point where if Half Life Episode 3 had come out, that would've basically been Half Life 3
I guess we'll see what happens this month, maybe we'll finally see that third episode, we have....
two more weeks to wait
The HL3 we're getting now is likely completely different from whatever plans they originally had for episode 3
oh I've got far too much to play regardless
if they take another decade to make another HL I'll be fine
maybe by then I'll have VR to play Alyx on
Don't say that, you can always play it later but we've been waiting 20 years
plus, if it does come out now, you can get it later when you want to play it while it's on sale
as long as it isn't anything like Epistle 3 i'll be happy
And also like, Alyx is an important game that kind of retroactively changed continuity lol
Not likely, it's 100% not gonna be whatever small things they had planned for the original episode 3
I've watched an LP of it so I know the story implications
same
It is, I consider it to be Half Life 3, I don't really know why a lot more people weren't going insane about Alyx
because most of us don't have VR?
I really think a lot of people thought it was some sort of Half Life themed VR experience so they handwaved it away and didn't even bother to check anything about it but no, it's a full blown new Half Life game
I have no doubt it is the one great VR game like everyone says it is, that's just not enough for me personally to invest in a VR system when there's so much else I never have time to play
I'm not saying more people playing it, I mean just even discussing it, especially with how the Half Life community gets about the prospects of a Half Life 3, I thought it would blow up way more and people would be going way crazier about having a brand new full Half Life game, basically Half Life 3 even though it isn't, even if they themselves wouldn't play it because of it being VR exclusive
I’ve finished Blue Shift and not the OG for some reason.
the Steam Frame looks really cool at least, but if i had that kind of disposable income i'd probably be getting a Switch 2 instead
Probably because Blue Shift is shorter.
The Steam Frame looks cool, but I'm not into VR enough to ever buy one. And the market for VR games has seemingly stagnated a bit, so
it's cool how you can play non vr games in it, idk if that's a normal vr thing or not though
But if I wanted to play non-VR games portably, I would just... play them on a Deck, or a Switch
but you look cooler with a vr headset on
lol
I probably wouldn't even be able to use VR if I had it because I have pretty bad near-sightedness and astigmatism on top of that so unless I completely smushed my glasses against my eyes while wearing the headset, probably not happening
there is software that allows you to do that iirc
I did briefly wear a VR headset at a tech demo thing once, so I think it's compatible with whatever my eyes are doing, but who knows maybe I'd implode after prolonged usage
That's a fairly normal VR thing, yeah
the HL subreddit is injecting an immense amount of hopium rn
In principle it seems like it would be possible to correct for eye issues by manipulating the output, no glasses required.
(Something like a telescope or microscope)
Half Life medkit SFX
Now that I say that I vaguely remember that there might be prescription inserts? IDK.
Look
Even Silksong finally had their time. There will be a time for the third Half-Life game
i forgot a guy named Charlie Brown worked on Half Life 2
Freeman is not only a renowned scientist, but a renowned game preservation advocate
https://store.ubisoft.com/us/immortals-fenyx-rising/5cec227839798c0870c07685.html?lang=en_US is free to keep on Ubisoft Connect (base game only, season pass can be bought on sale for €7)
(you need to install it through the launcher to keep it, can't claim through the website)

in Half Life 2 it's fascinating how for the facial models they just used random people they found
If you do decide to check out the Half Life series, I highly recommend you play the remake of the first game, known as Black Mesa. The original Half Life has its charms, but the remake is hands-down the better game, imo.
i think Black Mesa is really cool, but some of the level extensions are way too long and ruin the flow of the game for me
it's probably still the better experience overall (unless you're bringing some boomer shooter nostalgia to it)

i love watching Mike Shapiro talk about the G-Man
i feel like half life is the better of the two, just because you can excuse things as just "its an old game"
black mesa changes the vibe of a lot of things, neither for the worse nor for the better
granted I've never played Black Mesa, "only" HL1, OF, BS, HL2, HL2:E1-2, and most importantly Stanley Parable
if anything, i'd recommend playing the hl2 games first, then go back later
both HLs are also at high risk of "what's the big deal?" reactions since most of what they did right has been done a lot since
yeah
I have no idea what PK's history and preferences are with shooters so I couldn't begin to guess which one is a safer start
Seinfeld Effect
they're barely connected, you'd probably pick up on anything important on the way
I liked Doom a lot
Black Mesa did the right thing in not feeling like a downgrade on any aspect, even bunnyhopping is still possible to a similar extent as OG
you can't cheese the train section anymore by surfing down the ramp though
At least to me, what really sets the Half Lives apart from most games (and isn't diluted by Seinfeld Effect) is the consistently excellent level design. The kind where years later I can see a random screenshot and immediately remember that hallway because nearly every little room felt meaningfully distinct while playing it. Of course, whether that's a big deal to you depends on how you engage with shooters.
The most modern shooter I've played is probably 40k Darktide
yeah, the worst thing anyone has to say about Black Mesa is that it may have added too much content to a later part of the game
so it still feels safe to call it a net win even though I haven't played it myself
if you want to get into the historical significance of it all then we can talk about e.g. how revolutionary HL2's Gravity Gun was at the time, but that one definitely got diluted by imitators
god i still think the Gravity Gun is so cool
it's still a great execution of the idea
Ravenholm is such a great level
including the endgame supercharge
So, something to keep in mind is that Black Mesa and the rest of the Half-Life series aren't your average shooters. There's platforming, puzzles, and sometimes more tactical gameplay where just bumrushing into enemy fire isn't gonna work, and where you have to carefully plan your movements and covers to ensure you don't get shredded while you do the shredding. It isn't like Doom or Darktide or CoD or Halo or anything like that (well, maybe slightly like Halo).
and maybe slightly like original CoD
shooters where there aren't explicit cover mechanics but you do need to use cover, think tactically, avoid exposing yourself to enemy fire, choose weapons carefully, generally play defensively when outgunned, etc, etc
Modern CoD, I mean, where it's just shoot, shoot, run, shoot, shoot, hide, shoot, shoot, etc.
yeah I figured
I missed many generations of shooters
I mostly stopped playing them after CoD:MW, i.e. when CoD became "modern CoD", and seemingly overnight for every other shooter single player was an afterthought if it existed at all
the modern Dooms being the obvious exception (though I still haven't felt like playing TDA)
multiplayer just isn't fun for me, so when an entire genre becomes collectively obsessed with it, the entire genre stops being fun
ive warmed up to Dark Ages
My knowledge of CoD consists of battle passes snd fomo and monetization
Infect most shooters I've seen seem.to have that
yep, those trends started after CoD:MW, and in many ways Fortnite represents the apex of the trend
There was a Samus grunt in that overview trailer and it's immediately obvious that it's no longer Jennifer Hale. Sad times.
Could've been consistent!
and to be fair to CoD, I don't think any of it was anywhere near problematic back when MW was brand new
I'm not even sure they had actual microtransactions back then?
It's basically like this, except game modes instead of memes
why does this feel like a dig at SM Sunshine piantas
I...don't think it ever was?
I know, that piantas conversation was just really funny and BRAND guy reminds me of one
This meme is 100% accurate
im a chuckster !
I want to chuck the Chucksters into the pit from whence they came.
Meanwhile;
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is littered with AI art slop, because your $70 means nothing anymore
It'd be one thing if the slop was at least modern war based but why the fucking Ghibli anime style that's everywhere with AI
Like it's negative effort
Yeah, is that even real?
Yknow I didnt even think about that lmao
That doesn’t make sense
this is definitely a topic where people will be making up things to be mad at on top of the very real things to be mad at, so worth double-checking
Indeed. People have been making up so much bullshit about generative AI and AI in general, and yet 100% of anything that mentions AI in a negative light is taken as gospel.
Sorry
Considering they did this in Black Ops 6, I would say yes
oh so this is a slowpoke meme moment
Huh?
I'm confused now
Activision literally already admitted to using AI in the previous game
Yes, so ix was saying he's slow on the uptake
Who?
...Ixrec
Oh

Sorry, I'm a bit slow sometimes
yeah I think we're all on the same page now
so, this is probably "real", but not new to the series, and thus framing it as breaking gaming news is still fairly misleading
I think it's still pretty news-worthy just because it's the first signs of major generative AI content we're likely to start seeing on all our future games whether we like it or not (at least until any laws are made about it which are unlikely to happen anytime soon before enough damage is done)
I'm not saying the topic isn't important
although it's not like any of us can do anything about it besides not play these games, and most of us probably weren't going to anyway
ive only played one CoD game i think
I'm pretty sure a gaming company could straight up come out and say ''yeah we actively throw puppies into the sea every 2 weeks'' and gamers would still find it difficult to just not buy their game because it's the latest in the extraction shooter genre and they just have to play it, everyone else is anyway so why shouldn't they!
it was very, uh, slow
meanwhile I barely have an inkling what extraction shooters are because that's about ten layers deep into the post-MW era of multiplayer is the only player so I no longer exist to them
It's just disappointing to see big game devs cheap out on hiring actual artists and using generative AI instead
Is it? Because disappointment would imply that I had any higher expectations for them that weren't met, this seems like an incredibly standard sequence of events to me after Gen AI started getting popular
it's dissapointing that it's gonna become the standard eventually that's true
Tru
i always take for granted how insanely innovative HL2's physics were
The other day I was testing some Gamecube games on the Wii I was modding and I took Spiderman 2 for a swing, and I was really impressed with just how intricate the web physics are
If you happen to shoot a web at a building, and then you hold on to it as you turn the corner of the building the web will actually get caught on that corner and shorten but also give you a massive boost that can shoot you forward if you let go at the correct timing
You can use that same tech to say, shoot a web at a light pole, go all the way around it and shoot upwards after the web shortens and wraps around the pole
It's really impressive
Melee has a cloth physics system and IK system (used when standing on slopes, or for grabbed players when the floor lowers below them). They didn't need that, yet they did
Fox's tail is physics-based too, it was a source of desyncs in Slippi until it was fixed (because it affects his hurtboxes)
the more you look into it, the more you notice it's a tech demo 😛
yeah Spider-Man 2 is awesome
fuck dispatch is good and fun
I just finished it
Kinda regret one of my choices but what can you do
Im gonna be playing again anyway, do something different
||did you go for Blazer or Invisigal ?||
Yes
it might be my GotY
I dont know if its my goty but its damn good
I am mad about a lot of the spoiler youtube videos I saw that spoiled the ending
But then if I didn't start watching the ones for earlier episodes I wouldn't have bought the game so
He is omg
I dont know, a few hours
Tho youre expected to replay it
8-10 hours
including expected replaying for a complete story?
"Complete" is a strong word
The point is choices
Choosing to do things differently and see how things play out
Plus there's the actual dispatch gameplay part
A first playthrough is typically 8-10 hours from what I've seen
ok, maybe I’ll try streaming it this weekend
I don't know if the game has any filter options but just in case and without spoiling anything I'll just say it is an adult game
so just... be careful I guess
surely there's some sort of content filter options I'd assume
There's a censor feature
A Black Bar type deal
||Episode 4 opening||
I have been playing Dispatch as well, I agree, I feel like it's been so long sincer we got a telltale style visual novel this good.
It was made by ex-Telltale devs right?
8 hours feels a bit short for 30$. Might wait for a sale. It's not even finished all its chapters, right?
It is finished now
Everything is out
they're all released
I fee like 8 hours is about the ideal for that kind of story game
especially for replays...
For what I played (3 chapters) the pacing is really good

Yeah everyone’s talking about it now because it recently finished
NGL, if it didn't have so much positive buzz I wouldn't have tried, since I'm still pretty high on superhero fatigue
And the fact that it hits really well despite that speaks to the writing
More duct tape!
I’d say it needs more.

Still, the project author warns that the project will likely never reach full compatibility since “D3D7 is a land of highly cursed API interoperability.”
Don’t expect this project to expand to include support for even older DirectX APIs, either, WinterSnowfall warns. “D3D7 is enough of a challenge and a mess as it is,” the author writes. “The further we stray from D3D9, the further we stray from the divine.”
i hope they make a season 2 for Dispatch
Anyonw know of any WWII aerial games? Randomly got the craving to play around with Mustangs and Spitfires but the games I know with them are ancient and don't appear to be available anywhere
not even GOG?
IL2, Crimson Skies are common retro recommendations
I've been meaning to try out the latter
Bitch whatchu mean I didn't get any gold for beating you

Skill issue.
(good job on beating The Creature)
Creeture
I wonder what game is on the left...
Isn't this just a bizon that looks like an AK-47
Actually that's literally just a bizon
The bizon has the AK receiver for ease of maintenance i guess
HACKER
I love smash
i do too but damn Master Giant spirit is a b i t c h
i had less trouble with Dark Matter. A Legend spirit.
i'm also bad at Sora tbf
i'm only playing him because of Chuggaaconroy's KH LP
This area always has destroyed Cars for some reason
More cars for metal working i suppose
499 killed before getting hit
Imprisoning my decaying corpse inside a van
400+ killed but around 100 more with vehicles
I love this game
gonna stream Dispatch in quiet VC
happy birthday to Half Life 2 ! one of my favourite games
Sadly i will likely not be able to buy the hair dye but at least i can preview it.
As little as 300 USD and as much as 600 USD to be able to dye your hair one time.
what kind of cash shop is that, damn
Indeed but if one plays the game for an entire human life span virtually then for free it may be possible as well.
#Dispatch: screenshot so we can look at the funny names on the list more easily
||BIG CHUNGUS||
what is this game about
superhero agency
you're a superhero dispatcher
I made it back to Master II rank in Trackmania's ranked mode! I was there last year too, I'll see if getting to Master III is within the realm of possibility
pretti
#Dispatch: definitely the best outcome for the kaiju incident
devs are just humans like the rest of us
Out of all the azur lane characters, the characters with the big anteriors will probably be what catches an eye of a non-fan
I have zomboid theory
WHO UP NUBBIN THEIR NUMBERS
NUBBY 1.4 CAME OUT BAYBEEEE
no Dispatch 😔
My vote is for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 but DK Bahanza is a strong contender. I don't think the others will do well.
i honestly don't know which one im rooting for, Silksong is the only one of these i played and i never finished it
to me they're mostly uncomparable
but I have played 2, might get to a 3rd or even a 4th eventually, not that interested in the last 2, there's just so much competition
probably will root for DK simply because it's DK, i really wanna play it
I have literally never heard of Kingdom Come
i heard it was pretty good
KCD2 got tons of buzz earlier this year when it came out
it's not my kind of thing but I've seen multiple videos about why people liked it and what it did or did not do well
bringi really likes it
I'd never even heard of the first one lol
neither did I, sometimes a series gets big on later installments
If Silksong doesnt win game of the year at the game awards I will be extremely obnoxious and annoying about it in this server for weeks so
get your votes in
by all accounts I read, 2 is universally better than 1 because they had a decent budget this time
people going apeshit about Witcher 3
I thought people hated the first one and I didn't even know it had a 2
meanwhile 2 will always be my favorite
in fact, a let's play of W2 was my first exposure to the entire franchise
my uncle was super into Witcher 3
like botw
To give the smallest modicum of credit to TGA, Dispatch hasn't even been out a month
trueeeeeeee
nah, Zelda's always been a first party system seller, even the original NES one
but if you compare skyward sword sales to botw im technically right...
Yeah Zelda was a super huge hit when it first came out
sure, but PK's not saying "I've never heard of Zelda before"
I cant tell if youre trolling?
I feel like I never figured out how to play Witcher 3 correctly, lol
