If anything I just want Mass Effect 5 to come out before the Saudi PIF takes over EA and kills it because it's too progressive
I still trophy/achivement hunt. It’s just something I enjoy I’m currently finishing off sanandreas
I guess in my case it was a bit of competiton with my friends
of course, the best achievement in the entire history of gaming will always be
now I wish I'd looked at this when it was 43.0%
what game would that be
Stanley Parable
The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe
ah, I know there's that "don't play for 5 years" or something
actually doing this triggers a whole sidequest when the narrator goes "hmmmm... I don't feel like you earned that achievement, maybe go click on that other door six times" (and there's another dozen steps)
I don't have that achievement, now I'm tempted to do that bit
by the time you clicked on every random piece of office equipment the correct number of times and the narrator is maybe-unironically cheering you almost feel like you earned it
Man I love that game
have you seen The Serious Room?
I've heard of it but never found it
yeah, unless you're familiar with Source engine console commands, you just have to look it up
but it's a great scene worth looking up the trigger for
lol i instantly knew this was Stanley Parable
Man… Halo on PS5
Yeah, it was just a matter of time.
What’s an Xbox at this point snk.
Has been for a while. It was pretty inevitable that Microsoft games, even the big ones, would show up everywhere else
I'm still not sure if it makes sense for them to bother with a dedicated console anymore, but it probably does somehow
2013 really was the year Xbox would never recover huh?
I'm not sure that's an xbox thing so much as a modern gaming thing
^
it's been multiple generations since I had any reason to care about a console
I dunno.
The Xbox Game Pass really set them up for a new business model
"Betcha can't stick it, Master Chief".
I genuinely have no idea if the PS or Xbox is "winning" this generation because neither mattered to me from the start
I’m not even talking about that
oh
I like how that is the immediate assumption.
PS "won", but what is not defined.
I don't have a stake in the whole thing, but it was clear Xbox was in a decent position for like 1 year, then everything started to go south as games started to be better optimized for PS5 on average (higher market share, so it's more worth spending time on for developers and porting houses)
the covid shortages helped Xbox a lot, many people wanted a PS5 but bought an Xbox instead because it was slightly more available
so... what does "Xbox would never recover" refer to if not its popularity compared to other gaming systems?
I’m more thinking about how will the Xbox brand survive by the request of 30% profit margin.
Like…
CFO is essentially demanding.
Xbox also had the dev mode thing going for it - the XSX and XSS were very cheap emulation machines at the time, compared to a PC
I wish they fully embraced this, it could have been their saving grace (to an extent at least)
I’m just like…
what is going on with big companies this decade

I was somewhat hyped to see Microsoft open up, e.g. with forward-compatible controllers, open source GDK (makes PC Game Pass ports possible, and Xbox ports a bit easier)
Instead, the Game Pass ended up being more successful than anyone predicted and it’s basically becoming their primary mode of the Xbox’s business model
The biggest thing going for XBX is its connection to PCs and MSFT isn't too crazy about where you play their shit, as long as you do. Sony hasn't quite understood the latter.
but they didn't commit to this fully, you still need NDA'd SDKs to publish to Xbox today
meanwhile in iOS land... you have a walled garden platform that doesn't require NDAs to publish to
so yes, it can be done 😛
the Game Pass part probably needs to be qualified by that recent price and benefits change making it unclear how many will renew their sub
I think Sony and Nintendo also require NDAs
Isn’t the Xbox technically a walled garden?
yes, but my point is Xbox was probably in the best position to drop this requirement. Nintendo would never do this, and Sony is very unlikely to ever attempt this too (their "Linux on PS3" days are far away)
AFAIK only "walled" to the degree that every console and mobile device always has been
A console, in general, is a walled garden.
They’re playing the long game
Xbox also had a decent market share among indie game players, which is the community that would benefit the most from publicly available SDKs
true, gamepass was amazing for indie visibility
when you put the Switch on the side for a second, Playstation tends to be a "CoD and FIFA" machine after all, so it's usually the platform with the least indie players... but this has changed recently, with Xbox sales faltering
I genuinely see a future where the Xbox as a game console you physically buy stops being a thing. And instead it’s just a major quasi-platform-independent publishing platform.
or it slowly merges with normal PCs, and at some point we're just buying a "computer" designed to sit under a TV versus a computer designed for a desk or whatever
Xbox Game Pass is the one thing that’s working for the brand.
The rest is on a steep decline
Game Pass for now its working, but if they keep increasing the price… it wont.
There is a limit.
this is super weird to me since all my console biases were formed back when Playstation was the colorful cartoon platformer console and Xbox was the gritty shooter action console
consoles are computers.
funny how the tables turned, kind of
Regardless, I guess we’ll still be stuck with Windows until the anti cheat situation is figured out.
For now, having a console still makes sense. Its still cheaper and easier than building an entire rig that can run the latest titles.
I still like having a laptop that can run the latest titles on potato settings
To clarify, it's "a" future I see, not "the" future. But this is definitely a posture that Microsoft is currently dipping their toes into to see how it does.
I know, I just know that Microsoft is triple downing everything. They gotta pay their uhh… ML servers somehow.
What is a console, anyway? A place you play games.
Does the manufacturer of that console matter?
Kinda.
the future, always in motion it is
What is a console? A miserable pile of gaming!
Does it, though?
it used to matter a lot more when the manufacturer was tied up with a bunch of exclusive games, services and features
A console manufacture matters when Valve tried to do their Steam Machines. People didn’t like the entire concept.
Gamers have been saying for years how they're all literally the same.
They're just nearly identical x86 machines now
these days it feels more like the question is which manufacturer/publisher do you think is least likely to do something astonishingly stupid that effectively deletes your stuff
People prefer a centralized solution rather than an open one, because its easier.
Like, I got a PS5 to play games.
I thought people loved Steam Decks
yeah they're awesome
It's an open platform. Anyone can make their own and their games will still work.
The idea that there's a fixed box made by one company that you need to play your games on is dying
Yeah, but that doesn’t mean it has been as successful as the Steam Deck. Being an open platform means little if the main player still reaps the rewards.
xbax
The idea that you can just pick up any of the devices that you own and play the games that you own/have access to is slowly becoming the expectation
I have no idea who's arguing for what now
I’m confused.
refurb Steam Deck is on sale now by the way
including 1 TB OLED
some of the refurbs are cheaper than a Switch 2, just saying 😛
I hope they already release a Steam Deck 2 w sticks that don’t drift.
Have you not seen the Steam Deck? Or its myriad competitors? Or the PlayStation's own implementation of that? Or the Nvidia or Xbox or Playstation clouds? You can just... get a game and play it wherever in a manner that's more suitable to how you want to use it. Heck, the Switch is also blurring the line between a fixed console and portable devices.
Not sure how this is confusing. The basic idea is that the device itself is a bit less relevant.
No?
Are you talking about the cloud?
If that’s the case, then I have zero interest in the cloud. Like I can’t handle the latency.
local cloud gaming can be really nice with the right setup
even if you are in a remote location not too far away, as long as the machine at home is on Ethernet
Cloud gaming is part of it, but not exclusively what I'm referring to.
Like... you don't need to buy a Valve branded Steam Deck to use your Steam library on a portable tablet, like the ASUS ROG thing or any of the fifty other SteamOS tablets. Is that... not self-evident?
Apollo + Artemis has been pushing things forward for around a year now, and Sunshine before that
No?
…how.
huh i guess the steam deck is kind of like a tablet isn't it
I’m sorry Aegis, I think I’m confused right now.
there was a brief period where "phone" and "tablet" got blurred enough that people started saying "phablet" for the medium-sized ones
does that make the Steam Deck a... conlet? tabsole?
fun fact: 5.2" was considered a phablet at first
today's more compact phones are like 6.2" now, and the larger ones are 6.9" or even 7" (foldables up to 8"... and the Mate XT which is like 10.2")
Gawd I’m struggling to understand. I think Aegis was trying to tell me that an ROG device can access the steam library yeah.
But what I’m trying to say is that most folks I’ve talked only know about the Steam Deck. Heck, they don’t even know most other vendors other than ASUS, and don’t know how to install an OS or even understand file systems. They know you can install Steam on ‘any device’, but that doesn’t mean those devices can run all their games which is why most like consoles. Consoles don’t need any of that extra vigilance or responsibility, its plug and play. The Steam Deck by definition is plug n play because it was designed around Steam OS. (You even get a system that tells you what games work and don’t work, something that PCs essentially are hard to figure out for most consumers)
I don’t know if I’m making sense typing this but yeah I hope that clears something.
Well, that took some time writing.
I gotta get some stuff done now.

Looks like they got Blur Studio to do their cutscenes again?
That honestly looks gorgeous.
Looking forward to needing to buy a GeForce 6090 to play this
Machinima video of guys from pc ego-shooter Halo who present their newest weapon to fight the Covenant hordes.
Good times when halo was meant to be first on PC.
That reminds me of a wow commercial. Question to you folks: what was the weirdest/most memorable commercial/advertisement for a game? Not something that uses ingame graphics/selling the story, but someting more weird like that Halo Nvidia commercial, or the one I'm gonna post
WoW had the Mr. T/Alexandre Astier commercials in France, they are definitely quite well-famed here
NEW 4K REMASTERED VERSION HERE: https://youtu.be/ODt1ppstUGk
October 2007 TV commercial for the Toyota Tacoma featuring the truck inside a World of Warcraft game.
Ford also had a Focus SE commercial with David Hayter voicing Snake
Oh I know those, but I meant this one. This one is WILD.
when it comes to weird ads, this one is a bit weird/funny too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suZ_T1mOZTw
I will eat my pants if you've seen this before
an English version also exists, with different questions being asked in the interview phase... and it's missing the "yeaaaahh!" at the end too, how sad
not a game but a game console

PS3's start of a $150m campaign. Ouch.
(have a look at the other commercials too)
Come to think of it. Didn't the Rabids have crazy ones too?

cool, so we're at that stage now where this is just a common thing everyone is gonna start doing
now granted AI upscaling isn't anything relatively new (basically any remaster of a 2D pixeled video game uses this AI upscaling and it smoothens out the pixels and looks god awful) and it's not the same thing as generative AI, but I've been seeing more and more things like remaster projects and books like these just use it with wild disregard
I'd much rather a super shitty low resolution blurry image, it's not like you're getting any more detail when doing things this way anyways
I mean, even COD (I think?) was using AI generation for some posters for some of their zombie events, I think it was. Or something similarly huge, so yeah, it's being used everywhere
They always try to paint it as this ''tool'' that is ''helping the artists'' but it's always implemented in the absolute most lazy way possible no artist even touches up the AI output image later, it's just generating the image and copy pasting it into the files without a single care
Not that I would agree with AI being used even if an artist touches it up later, I just fundamentally oppose the use of AI in any way that isn't doing a boring time consuming task that isn't part of the creative process, but at least if an artist actually touched it up later it can look not incredibly shitty and like the art is melting
I can fully see capcom or bandai namco do the same thing
netherrealm doing it is funny though
Capcom is going that way too anyways, I don't remember what it was but a new Megaman thing I remember people were saying was using AI
AI upscaling can and does sometimes "add detail". The caveat is that it can only ever imagine/confabulate what that extra detail is. That is, it doesn't necessarily re-create what an actual hi-res master would have looked like
Yeah, all it can do is make plausible information based on patterns it learned, which is not desirable in art
Finished Borderlands and... Yeesh, you can tell the game was made on a shoestring budget.
Especially the last DLC puppeteering the literal corpses of previous antagonists... Twice.
Not saying it's a bad game, but 16 years and four sequels has really shown its age.
Hopefully this means the leap to 2 will keep it more engaging than it has in past attempts.
yeah, its not bad, but the games really just improved that much
For the record, this isn't like it's the first time I've played the OG (Well, it's my first time playing the remaster)
i still think i prefer the original
the story sucks but the guns are guns
What Pokémon Legends Z-A and future titles need is for Pokémon Amie to come back. Let me pet my critters T_T
at the very least do what Palworld does and have a button where i can pet them in the overworld, but alas
That’s needed too. Let me pet the Pokémon that are chilling out in the world
some GE multiplayer maps are also available in Perfect Dark
with Facility being renamed to Felicity
GE weapons too, but you can't use them in multiplayer on N64, only XBLA or PC port
Pets literal gods
Exactly what I do in FFXIV
I always hug ||Hydaelyn|| after beating her in her trial.
Well damn, Z-A did in fact get weirdly epic
Amazing
how are you finding helldivers 2 so far MA? it's fun, though i wish it was less buggy at times haha
The patch has mostly works on that front
...mostly
I can run at good graphics without issue now
You hear there's a new Source Port for Doom now that GZDoom got fucked by the project lead using AI code and stuff?
Yeah, UZDoom is where development is happening now

Welp
Already saw it, yeah 😐
yes we've seen it already
Ah, sorry
(I hadn't)
(shunnnnn!
)
Ohno
Not the crow of judgement
also, the current owners of Hi-Fi Rush's IP rights
Saw a youtube comment that put it perfectly, Hi-Fi Rush saw the light at the end of the tunnel only to realize it was a muzzle flash
We must destroy the CEO of Krafton
Yeah, saw that. Krafton, Embracer Group, and Tencent are just utterly destroying this industry.
And now we have to worry about the Saudi PIF too…
Saudi isn't a new problem, they've owned SNK for a while
Big money being used to quietly crush creativity, innovation, and progressivism in video games >_>
You’re right, it’s not new
The EA acquisition move is nevertheless an alarming one
Obviously there is one specific thing at the core of all of this but we're probably not allowed to talk about it
Indeed
There are a few
A significant portion of gamedev is in the US, which, to my understanding, doesn't offer as much protection to unions as it should
making it harder for them to gain traction
Correct.
Accurate
I'm all for both expanding union protection and also expanding the indie scene
it's really difficult to produce a union system that has enough teeth to prevent these problems, without becoming its own big powerful establishment causing other problems
but it's pretty clear some industries are way too close to the "unions aren't a thing" extreme
Raven Software QA union was a big event because of this, there was basically no videogame union in the US before
To be fair, Tencent has been largely hands off on their investments
Still, the potentiality is always there
what even happened with Embracer
the headlines I heard were they bought a million devs, spontaneously combusted, and those devs are high and dry
they embraced and extinguished without even going through the extend step
This is why we need more people like Larian Studios in the industry.
People who make games for the love of games, and who have positive, consumer-friendly mindsets and models, who promise big and deliver bigger, and who treat their employees with respect.
For them, it was never about profit. It was always about making a change.
Saudis had promised a 2 billion dollar investment push, and that promise had held for like half a year, during which Embracer bought a bunch of companies left and right. Then something like the day before the deal was going to be finalized and go through, the saudi group called off the deal. So basically Embracer spent money they didn't have and had to sell of a bunch of companies/ip/and close companies/fire a bunch of people to claw back the money they spent
In fairness, this is a lot easier to say when you make as much money as Larian does. The success of BG3 has firmly secured their freedom, but they're certainly in a very privileged position
Commercial gamedev, at the end of the day, has expenses. You have to sustain yourself and your team somehow, and sometimes you might not even be lucky enough to get enough exposure even if you poured your heart and soul into a game. Having the principle of 'not caring' about profits, while noble to some degree, also needs a degree of privilege in order to get there sustainably
I wish it weren't the case, but yeah. Making a good game, while it obviously helps, is not a guarantee by itself that you will make any money
Their message hasn't changed. They were saying these things even way back when they were still making Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2, it's just that now after BG3 people are starting to take notice of them.
It was never about their position or privilege, they've always had this stance on games.
these points do not contradict
Indeed. The thing that a lot of people don't want to hear is that Larian's approach is not sustainable for... basically anyone.
Larian can afford to put out a native Linux port (for Steam Deck users) for a custom engine because they can
The reality is that economics exists and there's only so much runway any game development project has before it needs to ship, whether it's ready or not.
it's a very uncommon decision in 2025, I don't think I've seen this elsewhere for like 5 years now
That being said, I do see this reasoning used to justify the horrid state of the games industry, which I don't intend to do. I'd rather have shitty companies fold than compromise everything to make shareholders happy
Indeed. More common for games built on Unity, but I certainly can't name any in-house engines doing this these days.
Acknowledging the realities of something != "justifying" or "defending" those things.
Something I've found a lot of people have trouble understanding...
Right. I was just making my position clear
A smaller example. Team Cherry took their sweet time on Silksong. In principle, they don't care about profits either. But the only reason they can have that principle is that Hollow Knight made them truckloads of money, more than they know what to do with. And the team is small.
it reminds me a bit of comparisons with id Software in the late 90s to early 2000s
id Software was drowning in cash back then, Carmack regularly made the news about having a Ferrari collection (including one he gave away to Thresh, who won a contest)
The infamous 1997 Red Annihilation tournament:
John Carmack, legendary Id Software Programmer, gives his 328 GTS Cabriolet to the winner of this tournament. The tournament was held on Mpaths networks with over 2000 participants. The top 16 were flown to Atlanta, Georgia for the final tournament at the World Congress Center during E3 of that ye...
if you want to see the gameplay that could win you a Ferrari in 1997
it's pretty basic by today's standards (moving like this would get you demolished in a 2025 rookie league), but you can see the strategies already put in place (timing items, shooting preemptively RL spawn when getting out of water, etc). Also, not jumping ensures you don't give away your position too early

Oh hey, I just found out what getting the "Earn 100 stars!" option on the Bowser space choices does in Mario Party. Bowser quickly distracts the player character and then just fucks off as fast as he can, lol.
oh lol rip
He should give everyone 100 stars
He doesn't have that many stars are you crazy
is this satirical? or just like, hater energy?
it looks like they just make abominations in char creators for fun
dont think they're a hater
huh, ok
Yeah it fun to do stuff because i can.
This piece was made in responce to people saying i made my characters all look the same and it turned out being really fun to make.
ah ok, neat. what game was this character made in?
Wo long: fallen dynasty to make them i needed cheat engine so the skin can be any color and the sliders can have values changed from the og -20 to 20 increased-127 to +127 so thry can be tall and have odd purportions.
This one is in the same look but more equstria girls inspired as i just loved this mans story a out feeling friendship has failed him XD.
For sure :D
In nioh 2 i also did a simular hack and did around 60 mlp characters or so total.
But mostly low effort color swaps as it was like 1 to 3 hours doing that alone i did try but it is tricky for me to do creative stuff.
Some had character builds even like vynal scratch bass cannon
Sirens singing to stunlock bosses if you had all 3 of them in a co op team.
you could give them abilities?
Within the ones in game yes in wo long less abilities but nioh 2 had more choices.
ah yeah, neat
Sadly though it was tricky for me to make pretty characters so i just had fun with them like the resting angry face that i put on the princess celestia.
Friendship! 🌈
ohh
didnt kill warden i see
otherwise i dont think they ever send u to this location for anything else
there's no side quests there i yhink?
try out the toxic cloud skill on maya, whatever it was called, for funsies
oh no i did, this was just part of a sidequest
oh wow
i guess i just barely remember this place
a lot of my hours were farming specific guns
Toxic Cloud is fun
obscenely strong esp since there's a looot of armored enemies in this game's campaign
i love it
just got myself a slag revolver
time to slag somoene off
man playing blue protocol makes me sad,its literally all that kurtzpel could have been if the devs didnt take a shit on and burried their own community and the game as a whole

I swear he knows this game better than any of the devs did
oh its him
i love you pannenkoek
If youre wondering why they haven't been posting, watch the vid
||spent 3 months making a tas||
still sad about it but this game isnt safe either,biggest piece of dogshit ive seen its absolutely disgusting i hate it, mixed reviews it currently has sound appropriate but id even go into overwhelmingly negative,unrefined,rushed,unoptimised,purest form of slop possible,it was on its way to be the first and possibly best of its kind but now its just a shitty genshin clone that does everything worse only time ive been more dissapointed was when tekken 8 released,5-6 years of waiting for blue protocol were absolutely worthless
i wonder if pannen can even play Mario 64 normally anymore
holy shit this vid is an hour long i'll have to watch it tomorrow lmao
Between him and Kaze I've learned so much about Super Mario 64
The new dragonmaids are finally in master duel, when I was crafting for a second glossy cehrmba I got a royal.
Now I'm just missing 2 alternate art house and hospitality.
Oh right, I started that vid but never finished
Ponies?!
cute artwork
Idk who made it, it's from the game itself. It's very cool
yeah yeah
i love borderlands
That's dark.
What's that red thing on the table next to the chicken?
Is that a napkin holder or something?
Looks fucking weird if that is what it is
I think it's a marker
Oh yeah I see it now
I was confused that the other stuff connected to it was
Only to realize it's a ketchup bottle and... something I can't see too well what it is
I started playing Ghost of Tsushima. It's really good so far, I've wanted to play it since it was first revealed, and am finally playing it

and here I thought fiddling around with modding a Wii was already a bit of a headache, doing any type of homebrewing/modding with these older systems is not just a headache, it's an expensive headache lol so many add-ons and peripherals to buy to even get things working at all
at the same time, pretty mind blowing to see a full port work of Sonic 1 on the C64, I feel like the Sonic fandom is one of the few ones dedicated enough to actually go through with projects like these, because who would even think of doing something like this on the first place, and having the end result be an actually high quality port
(also one of the few rare cases where PAL is actually superior to NTSC what with requiring much less fiddling around with add-ons and third party hardware)

this game's wild man
Commodore/Amiga hardware was more popular in PAL land, especially the UK
early PC gaming is mostly an EU thing, US/Japan was more consoles-focused
what does "early" mean in this context?
I was PCing in the early 00s, my console-only era was roughly the 360's life
PC gaming ramped up in earnest in the 90’s
when IBM compatibles became the standard, and hardware across the board developed in leaps and bounds
crack cocaine meets meth
This is why I play this game
Player: Can I transport My Arm in your boat?
Larry: Well, yes, I'm sure you've transported your arm every time you've used my boat. Isn't it always attached to the rest of your body?
Player: My Arm is a troll.
Larry: Your arm is... a troll? It's really not. I can see both of them. Sorry, have you had your brain shrunk into a penguin suit too many times?
Player: This kind of thing happens a lot when I take My Arm out to places.
Larry: You take your arm out to places? And what the heck is THAT?
My Arm arrives, frightening Larry.
My Arm: My Arm here!
Larry: You want my boat? Yes, yes, take my boat and go a very long way from me! And take your arm with you!
but who's on first?
Player: You only need to let My Arm in, not me.
Boulder: Human sound confused about how body work. See, mortal body is intrinsic part of mortal being. It not like we got our souls floating up in da sky controlling bodies like puppets.
Boulder: We mortal beings - troll, human, goat - we are our bodies, and our bodies are us. You human got dumb ideas 'bout mind/body dualism.
Boulder: Anyway, Boulder not here to talk ontological distinction between mind an' matter, especially with dumb human who not know what his arm is. So push off.
Boulder: Human arm might taste good, maybe, so if Wolfbone sent your arm as snack, we happy to take it an' eat it.
Player: I'm not letting you eat my arm.
Boulder: Urgh - human arm attached to human body with human mouth what keep talking an' talking. Shut up an' go away.
``` They're milking this one joke for all it's worth
In OSRS, trolls are named after the first thing they eat
That's why the big one is called Dad
Good. The patent and their lawsuit against Pocketpair are both patently ridiculous
Heh, patently
funny thing i just realised,despite being at the end of act 2 i still havent gone to baldurs gate...in baldurs gate 3
amazing,now try suing monster hunter cuz you can capture monsters in it iunstead of killing them
Their lawsuit hasn't been axed at this time, to be clear.
But it does weaken Nintendo's position
Personally I think the entire thing is frivolous and every patent is clearly null and void, because all the patents Nintendo is citing in their lawsuit were filed and granted after Palworld came out.
Thus, Nintendo is literally suing them by retroactively patenting components of Palworld's game design and then claiming infringement.
It's purely just intimidation and bullying them to try to stamp out successful competition.
Everything Nintendo has cited has prior art as well
im all the way with palworld,the game is amazing,the game support is amazing, and i find it impressive that they managed to make a genuinely great game with what seems like an asset flip
They're original assets!
Nintendo lost the copyright infringement argument. It's why they're only taking the patent route.
ah,i wasnt sure honestly cuz ive heard a lot of talks of it being an asset flip,but that doesnt really worsen my opinion on it any bit even if it is
Yeah, a lot of anti-Palworld people assert that Palworld is using stolen assets.
There are indeed a lot of very similar designs, but they did indeed make the designs themselves and they pass copyright law originality requirements.
what I heard on release was the asset flip claims were just rumors that no one ever produced even alleged evidence for
I assume some assets in there were bought on asset stores
Theonly evidence people provided were "LOOK AT HOW SIMILAR IT IS!"
yeah, if that rumor mill sounded like a potentially legitimate point, it's worth re-evaluating where you "hear" stuff
People deconstructed the models and found that the meshes were original
They were very likely copying ideas, but they didn't steal assets
i didnt give it enough thought to do that since i loved the game from the very beginning really
i didn't know Palworld was still a thing tbh
oh it's been a thing this whole time
There are a lot of Pokémon fans who are... very confusingly taking the stance of "Leave the multibillion dollar company alone! Burn down the indie studio!" as if having any sense of competition at all is somehow a bad thing
it is and its thriving
like almost every successful video game, it drops out of the headlines once non-players run out of things to say about it, and then it's just players actually playing it in the background
actually theres a major update coming soon iirc
It's still expanding and thriving. They've added content updates and there are more expansions planned.
Yep
Palworld is also launching their own spinoff games
And merch and community events and stuff
They're not going anywhere
i have a chillet plush thats as tall as me i need more merch of it still
it'd be like one of you saying "uma musume is still a thing?" and me just looking at the last ten fanarts posted today in our uma thread lol
maybe im not in the right circles idk, i just haven't heard anything about it in a while
Probably. They've been putting out a lot of content.
Basically what Ixrec said, players are playing it but non-players aren't really paying attention to it any more, so you don't hear about it unless you're interested.
i noticed that not a lot of people talk about it even if alot play it,i think it might have to do with the fact that in some places palworld fans were kinda bullied out of talking about it early on in the game's release
PALWORLD PLAYER
Also a dev update
Yep, a lot of places on the internet decided to shit on Palworld and their fans, entirely on baseless assumptions
at one point in some places i was frequenting mentioning palworld was borderline as bad as mentioning ai for a while
There was a period where Palworld fans were being equated to AI art thieves
(Palworld does not use AI despite the many many many many many many many claims)
my beloved
it's also, just... not normal for people to keep talking about a game they don't even play indefinitely?
Hell, one of my Pokémon Discords actually banned any discussion of Palworld. On the theory that Palworld was somehow morally bankrupt.
falling out of the news cycle is what normally happens to every topic eventually
ok im sorry lol
also my beloved
I love him so much
noodle
lol great timing for someone to post even more uma art in the uma thread
There's also the Palworld thread in here somewhere
I think it's people being very attached to Pokémon out of nostalgia
but as someone who grew up during Pokémon hype, I don't have that much nostalgia for it, nor do I play the modern games
some people probably feel it's justified to défend Pokémon (and Nintendo more generally) as they're the last bastion of AAA gaming without the usual caveats (microtransactions, unnecessary padding, too much emphasis on story over gameplay, etc)
Remember when Nintendo was known for making their games hard to pad out playtime?
good old Nintendo hard 🙂
that's basically Star Fox 64 when you think about it, and people think it's the best in the series...
I'm absolutely obsessed with Pokémon. My house is filled to the brim with Pokémon merch, I own a legitimate copy of nearly every game they ever put out, I go to events, I still get TCG cards, and I'm basically always playing the video games. Started playing when Pokémon Red & Blue came out and never stopped. Hell, my most commonly used 'sonas are Pokémon
But also I'm happy to get Palworld and other competitors because they fucking need competition and Game Freak really needs to get their shit together. I enjoy Palworld. I don't understand people who take the position that there should be no competition. Uh, hello? More games to play? You suddenly have more meals to choose from on the menu, how is this bad?
People need to understand that you can like more than one thing
Insert "Holy shit two cakes" meme here
tbf that difficulty level wasn't unique to Nintendo (especially in the era of arcade game dominance), they just made so many of the good games back then
I like both Quake and Unreal, even though I'll always think Quake has the better movement out of the two games
yeah, this is like whenever someone expressed genuine distress over Silksong never coming out and I'm just "...half of the best metroidvanias came out after Hollow Knight, wtf are you doing to yourself"
But I don't care about metroidvanias, I care about Hornet
(One might assume I'm über loyal to Apple, which I am in a sense, but I'm quite happy to shit on them too)
real
In actual fact the difficulty dissuades me from trying as I experience that type of game as particularly troublesome to begin with, but for that reason I also have no interest in the genre in general and will only be interested in a particular game despite that, for reasons like: the main character is cute.
The real reason why Hades did so well...
That's essentially why I favor some games/brands over others. I just like that particular flavor of dish they're serving and it becomes my safe go-to anytime I go to the restaurant, as it were. But in no way am I opposed to trying out new things on the menu or doing something different.
Speaking of, I need Metroid Prime 4 already
Why is December so far away
you have plenty of games to play in your backlog until then, probably 🙂
I basically never wait for games these days... the games wait for me
oh i just play Slay the Spire again intead of picking a new game
TIL Animal Crossing New Leaf's dialogue script is 1.1 million words, making it one of the longest scripts in video games
where does new horizons fall
I believe it has less, but I can't find a hard number on NH. The scripts for the first game and subsequent titles are known, but I don't know if the files for NH's script have been extracted and analyzed
The OG game had about 450,000 English words
See with pokemon I never really got into the regular games at all. I liked the one movie and the shows growing up and the cards but the only pokemon games I even cared for and played regularly was stadium 1 and 2 on n64 lol
For some context, New Leaf's script is longer than all of the Harry Potter books combined. LotR trilogy is almost half a million. Baldur's Gate 3 is over 2 million and I think has the crown for the longest script in all of gaming. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is also over 2 million.
For the most part, the rest of the contenders are basically visual novels.
yes I love Chillet
my other top faves would be Petallia, Dazzi, Flopie, Katress
Those are great
Chillet's design is very cute
one of the Trails games have to be up there
Depresso and Cremis are great too
but also like wow where is all that text in New Leaf coming from
Are there official plushes yet
New Leaf has a ton of event dialogue and conditional dialogue
lifesize Chillet
Heh, that would be great XD
Oh I guess they're all sold out for now?
I can't find a way to buy them from an official store
I'd like to get the Chillet Ignis one to pair with the blue one
I have a lifesize Lucario plushie and I was so close to getting that lifesize Gardevoir they put out recently XD But alas, no room for more plushies
aaaah
Ooo furries
Overall, very good, not quite a top 10-20 for me. I loved the unique platforming and combat mechanics with the motorbike. Overall exploration was solid in the usual metroidvania way, with plenty of distinct areas and sidequests and upgrades and excuses to revisit old areas. Story's fine. As previously discussed I think the gore's overdone. Some of the boss fights really could've used more checkpoints.
Hell yeah, thanks!
oh, I should add, definitely play it when you're in the zone, because part of those "unique mechanics" is that you always die in one hit
(in context this is a good choice overall but still)
I will probably give it a try. Thanks again
Playing The Outer Worlds 2, and this is my character that I made
Oh RE Requiem is coming to EGS
What
Pretty sure everyone already expected this
ok yeah it's also on Steam
so not sure why this is news
did we not have a date before? I wasn't following RE that close
It's apparently Capcoms first introduction to being on the egs
Hence the tie in with pre-ordering the game
We had a date as soon as it was revealed iirc
The umamusume thread is No Uma's Land
most palworld talk is on the Palwolrd thread, tho admittedly its not super active lately
but ppl still play it, its still in the top 100 steam games by concurrent players (right now its 53rd with 21k players online currently)
Hello magikarp
I like my space boat
Can I just appreciate how this is actually a really good destroyer design
hort
mine is named "princess of twilight"
Same lol
Its not a good ship for space combat, but as a ground attack/support craft its an amazing design, yeah
Literally a bunch of guns pointed down
Angel of death firing from the heavens
Peach Hack's ship is Lady of Twilight
Also this is my ships name
what game is this ,?
Manechat try not to use Twilight's name in Helldivers challenge
oh helldivers
Helldivers 2, yeah
They literally handed it to us on a platter
True
"Eye of the Stars" for mine.
I think mine is Forerunner of Audacity
Oh. Apparently they removed furniture and gyroids?
So how is Switch emulation
Pretty good these days
Takes some setup though
Switch 2 has not been hacked or reverse engineered yet
This is pretty rad
Eden is an emulator that is currently actively developed. Probably the best path forward at the moment. https://eden-emu.dev/
(for those wondering, it's a fork of Yuzu with legit improvements behind it, and people who know what they're doing)
And of course, you should only ever use it on your definitely legally acquired games, with definitely legally acquired firmware and decryption keys. Also I think Nintendo is a very handsome company who never ever does anything wrong, ever.
No Rauru villager😔
Last I saw, Ryujinx's revived fork is still the better one. How is Eden?
Eden is pretty good, last I checked. But I think it's hard to measure which one is "better". Better at what? Some games function better in one over the other. Some games perform better in one over the other. They're just very different emulators
When it comes to emulation , I value accuracy
But that becomes harder with more advanced systems
Yeah, I was gonna say. Accuracy isn't a singular measurement in emulation. There are lots of little things and components that could be more accurate or less accurate
for LDN multiplayer, Eden is generally better than Ryubing or Kenji-NX
what are the best video game horses ?
The team I was on in Battelfront II (2017)'s Starfighter Assault mode got absolutely wrecked for two phases (mainly because a few max level players were spawn camping), then in the last phase (D'Qar map, where the First Order team must destroy all fighters to win before time runs out), they completed the objective in seconds... but they didn't win. My team was still able to spawn in until time ran out, giving us the win somehow. I've never seen that happen before.
If I had a dollar for everytime a Multiplayer Shooter added more absurd MTX's to a game and made me reconsider playing, I'd have 5 dollars, which isn't enough for an MTX, but it's wild that it just keeps happening lmao
I mean, my expectations were pretty low, but somehow they failed even those lmao. Thanks Fortnite, very kind /s
You can customize the Appearance of your Sidekick one time after obtaining it.
You can purchase a Sidekick multiple times and give them different Appearances; however, each Sidekick customization you own in your Locker must be unique. Duplicate Appearances are not allowed.
Want to change the appearance of what's basically a pet? Nah buy another one lmao
That's fucking ridiculous
Yeah it's nuts. They even have skins you can customise as part of what you get for the skin. like with wraps/colours or whatever. So this is just wild
but do they have horse armor
Nah, that's a bethesda Special lol
It's just straight up greed
They could easily have made nearly as much money selling them and letting you customise them properly. Alas, this poor indie company really needs to extort it's userbase to feed their poor shareholders
Yeah. There's already a bunch of outfits in the game that let you customize them as many times as you want, so there is no reason for them to do this besides greed
Maybe I should switch to like, Terraria / hollow knight or something
R6S is a loot box marketplace hell, same as CS2, and APEX is somehow worse despite not having a marketplace.
I'd buy battlefield 6 but given their new owners I don't trust it to stay with ok MTXs for long.
The point being, there's a million other games out there, just have to get used to them as a go-to over multiplayer shooters I guess.
I've been playing a lot less Fortnite lately tbh
huh, from multiplayer/live service games to single player/finite games?
I still need to finish Hollow Knight
I just have no clue what to do in it currently
if you ran out of hints we can help with that in #1091169976217509918
That's my main problem with metroidvanias, I get confused on what to do so easily
we could also talk about ones more straightforward than HK, it is on the more cryptic side
though I'm guessing you've heard of e.g. Ori by now
reasonable
Yeah, from Multiplayer to Singleplayer games. They don't neccessarily have to be finite per se, as I really enjoyed my time with Enter the Gungeon for example.
Terraria is a game I never finished, and I'm like, 1/3rd or so through hollow knight
I've not even touched the modding scene for Terraria and I hear there's some banger mods there
let alone like... actually playing through a chunk of Modded Minecraft
oh right, roguelites and survival games and Rimworld-likes and so on also go for the infinite replayability thing
I also struggle with the platforming in HK
okay so I won't recommend Bo or Pseudoregalia or Rusted Moss
I like Pseudoregalia, I still need to finish it tho
Rimworld-likes?
Rimworld is well-designed, don’t get me wrong, but the basic idea of building a settlement that has to face military challenges is much older, e.g. Tropico or the Caesar games and spin-offs.
The general city-builder genre has always been noted for focusing on high replayability.
I consider city builders and rimworld entirely different genres
I play none of those games so I don't know the exact venn diagram
If not quite the same, there is at least a large amount of overlap. I consider colony-building games with detailed individual characters a smaller-scale subset of the city-builder genre.
I know someone who bought the pumpkin lady skin the other day.
(I forgot her name)
i bought a furry skin in Fortnite recently cuz I had enough in game currency for it
Oho, expedition 33 is 20% off during this steam sale
For those who come after who haven't tried it yet
We continue shilling it
I want to buy Arc Raiders, but I have no one to play it with
damn, they got Chun Li looking great on Fatal Fury
for the space nerds
this has been a long time coming
I have been talking about the journey to 1.0 for many years and, and finally, as you might be aware of, this space flight simulator is about to reach its biggest milestone yet. The past few months has been focused on improving the game, fixing issues, and rolling out the final few of the 1.0 features. And on November 7 2025, the 1.0 release will...
In an official news post, The Pokemon Company revealed that at the start of Season 2 of its online Ranked Battle mode, players will be able to receive Greninjite at Rank Y, and Delphoxite at Rank S. Previously, in Season 1, players had to achieve Rank K to receive Greninjite (Delphoxite was not yet available).
Some good news for Z-A, getting the mega stones may get easier soon
I hope they do this for all of them. Rank Y is muuuch easier to get.
it wasnt too bad to get K, but this is a welcome change
still sucks that this is the only way to obtain tho
Getting Rank K is basically a no-go for me
Not a fan of being forced to grind through sweaty competitive multiplayer for exclusive rewards that shouldn't be exclusive
and requiring NSO on top of that
Comfy vibe
Only the fur color and eye color etc are permanent
The actual base appearance itself
You unlock cosmetics for the pets themselves as you play and use the pet itself in game without having to buy the clothes etc at all and those can be customized at any time
Its super worth it
Not even greed
It's meant to be uniquely yours
It's pretty much like an irl pet
You pretty much just pick the one you like the most and go with it
...What's wrong with it?
idk but I'm just now realizing his face is the origin of that godforsaken pfp/meme way back when
It looks like shit
Same old same old as is usually the case with a lot of remasters, a lot of people simply don't vibe with the changes and think it looks worse, ironically in an attempt to look better by having higher resolution textures and 'fancier' lighting, it's simply not as cohesive visually despite the fact that on a technical level it's more impressive, it feels sloppy and unfinished, pretty similar to what happened with the GTA Trilogy actually
of course the game isn't even out yet and it could improve somewhat between now and release, like Soul Reaver's remasters improved a little bit, but that's all you're getting in 3 months time, just a slight adjustment to something that people already aren't liking that much
but that's a lot of remasters honestly, so I guess nobody should expect different from this, with a lot of older games like this you really need a super skilled team to pull off a remaster well like Nightdive did with System Shock, it just takes a really careful set of hands to translate the aesthetic of the low poly 'realism' and grittiness into a higher fidelity style, with these old games they really tried to squeeze as much detail from those low poly models and low res textures as they could to get a certain kind of realism look to the games, when you try to just add more polygons to that it's not gonna end up looking the same, you can't just replace the models with higher poly models (barely higher poly for that matter) and run the textures through an AI upscaler and call it a day, it's just not gonna look right
but I don't think Aspyr is gonna care that much, the Soul Reaver remasters were similarly underwhelming and had some of the same issues, Soul Reaver 2 saw more improvements because it was an early 2000s game in between that PS1 era and the higher fidelity late PS2 games so it did look like it could use a touch up, but a lot of the grittiness of Soul Reaver 1 was completely lost because of similar issues to what's going on with Deus Ex
Oh no it's Aspyr?
Lighting is just weird, brighter, less contrast, high poly models mixed in with much lower poly models, some textures look way too clean, etc etc, it all just combines to make something that looks way less cohesive than the original game that's less technically impressive
Of course
augh
Our good friend Aspyr
the part that puzzles me is that they did pretty good with the Tomb Raider games so I don't know what's happening here
Maybe because Soul Reaver and Deus Ex have less mainstream pull they just thought it'd be more worth it to do them quick and dirty and not spend too many resources on them? I really can't tell
Happy birfday war thunder
Tbh Soul Reaver remaster was pretty good too , but deus ex is just.... what?
I think it looks fine
At least the one pic on the article embed, maybe there are worse ones
I restarted to play The Nameless Mod this week
I bought it but can't play it on Windows, because it needs .NET 3.5 which I can't install due to broken Windows Update... I would need to reinstall Windows to fix it
it "works" on Linux but freezes constantly during gameplay, and I couldn't get HDR output to work. I've spent more time troubleshooting this than playing the game
I have everything else working on Linux, from DLSS to LSFG for framegen
I have the EGS version but no DLCs, I wanted to play just the DLCs
but DLCs on sale on EGS (not currently on sale) are the same price as the full game on Steam
I did try to copy the Steam DLC files to the EGS version which is DRM-free and doesn't need .NET to run, but it doesn't work
anyway, I'm a bit peeved about the whole thing. I ended up just playing Bulletstorm instead today
i remember doing this in the reverse direction for fallout new vegas
kind of funny
with Duke Nukem, of course
I need to play Deus Ex myself someday
but the mod has a name, lol
I wanted to just buy Laika, but I also had removed Cursed to Golf from my wishlist because I didn't want to pay that much for it
I guess I get both
i forgot how fun Steve was in Smash bros
it is, tho I havent touched SSBU in a while
I forgot how hopeless it feels fighting against steve in smash
fuck it we spam minecart
I had a friend who knew how to cancel their knockback with steve black magic
I find Steve not very fun to play personally, mostly because he's so slow. Also, one of his win conditions is camping and this automatically makes the character half as fun as other characters for me...
spamming cart in disadvantage is pretty bad at high level, especially if you don't have powered rail 😛
idk any of the meta strats for Steve i just like mining and crafting
I hope Ken and Chun get people talking about this game again, it kinda hasn't been talked about as much as I thought it would since it came out
I would've bought it if it wasn't for the fact that I spent too much money on other stuff this year and I'm on a big saving up mode right now
Fighting games are so complicated. Idk if I'll ever be able to actually learn a character in one
See, I agree, but I feel like the same is true of any competitive FPS or RTS game if you approached it with the view that you needed to learn it all to even get started playing.
I can't do a combo well in tekken, but that doesn't mean I can't play and learn through just playing against CPU or the story mode
It's just that I learnt FPS growing up, so I've got transferable skills to learn a new one
Whereas with fighting games, I'm learning the basics from scratch sometimes
What sort of fighting game do you really want to play @fickle garnet ?
Mr. Game & Watch would like to know:
- Your location
I would like to play Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear Strive tbh
Smash is the only fighting game I'm decent at
ah yeah! both of those seem like good games, and I'm tempted to try out GG Strive myself at some point.
It's a little pricy atm, but it'll go on sale again I'm sure.
There are heaps of beginner guides for both IIRC, and SF6 has modern controls too for learning the game
i love smash
By "decent" I mean my skill level isn't six feet under, it's about ground level
👨⚖️
my Melee combos have started to improve a little, I just wish I could shorthop consistently with Fox as it would open up a lot of combo routes
also this one, looks a bit funny but it worked 🙂
BRO.. I had a fucking bulletproof vest on in zomboid to protect from bites but the motherfuckin zomboid bit through it
Well yeah it's a bulletproof vest not a biteproof vest
lol I unearthed my super old reddit account to ask a question on the subreddit for wii hacking about a super specific problem I've been having that I cannot find a single answer for and I kicked back thinking at some point someone's gotta answer only to check on the post a bit later and realize it's been immediately deleted this whole time and apparently the specific subreddit doesn't allow any help request type posts
gee thanks, what's even the point of having a reddit about modding of all things at that point
the only other alternative if I want to get any answers on this problem is probably to make a gbatemp account and try my luck making a post on the forums there, but who even knows if they also have any arbitrary rules about ''no help request'' posts
they're always against it bc supposedly communities get annoyed by them which is funny bc it almost exclusively applies to near-dead communities so they're effectively gatekeeping themselves to death
I understand that sometimes people can ask the same questions repeatedly and sometimes forums could get clogged with ''help with X problem!!11'' type posts, but being so uptight about it especially on a community centered around modding which is so extremely prone to requiring specific solutions and can be finnicky is just really weird
they have a discord where apparently questions and help is allowed so I might try that, just because I really do wanna find out about this problem I've been having
the good news is I'm almost certain it's a hard drive problem and not any problems with my modding, the bad news is that means I probably have to get a new hard drive to fix this (and ensure it's compatible
)
reddit should have the ability to section of certain tags to a seperate page, so that subreddits don’t have another way to avoid being drowned with a single type of post
Woah there's a horse training center in project zomboid?
are you playing on mobile or something?
I don't recall the full control scheme being part of the HUD.
Yup, unofficial emulator that runs natively on your phone instead of like emulating windows or something
I keep dying weird deaths that I don't think it's even an issue of mine
Zomboid has a great deal many unique locations, the latest build has an anachronistic wild west tourist town
Its one of my fave games
Can't wait for MP
I didn't realize it because the big complex was kinda intimidating to me because it's just a big fenced off area and i just thought it would be hard to deal with the zombies in it
I might go back and just build a gate though
My new girl skirted on death but I think she's a goner
Anxious AND Queasy after a laceration? I think she was bound to die so i just put my stuff in the front seat of my car.. Then i promptly died by ramming a bush
Speaking of PZ in general, i fell in love the moment i knew it's open world
And isometric
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2792387747 you should buy the game on steam tho
just so you can use this mod
it's probably because chat is far better than forums for debugging; there's never enough information in the original question to completely solve the problem (if you knew what information was needed, you would've solved it yourself, etc), so it's always a discussion and never a Q&A
(and specifically the 1-on-1 kind of discussion, not the "everyone makes 1 comment" kind that reddit specializes in)
Well, you do need the steam version to play it
oh
If it used PZ files it probably would get in trouble so they're like all other emulators, "find them on your own vro"
IMO it's a major reason why StackOverflow declined so much. After everyone asked all the classic "what's the best way to resize a vector?" questions with clear objective answers, it became harder and harder to ask a question that wasn't a discussion prompt in disguise, and attempts to push people toward answerable questions just gave everyone the impression they don't want questions at all any more
wow ok i got accepted int the fp2 playtest for the DLC beta, alright
had to sign an NDA and everything so i cant talk about it, im installing stuff now tho
i thjink ive only got a few hours to play lol
One day there should be an NDA that just outright says "no you can't even say you signed this NDA"
bold of you to assume i actually read it
Honestly I'd make an NDA like that only for the bottom to say "This NDA isn't actually an NDA, lmao, please give me free advertisement via talking about my game"
a PDA, a PLEASE discussion agreement
legal shilling requirement
I signed one of those
They're more common than the other way around!
Omg
a lot of NDAs work this way
whether it would hold up in court if challenged is another thing though, especially in EU. It's more that nobody wants to challenge it 🙂
Seems like a dumb rule though. Even if your answer to a sensitive question is "I'm not at liberty to say", you've still indirectly implied the same thing
This is pretty common
Talos Principle 2 + DLC for €15.19, cheaper than on Steam
Well I got an answer... Sort of. I just got a "maybe it was defective" answer which I guess is good enough
so the good news is I didn't mess up with my modding, the bad news is now I gotta get another hard drive and hope this one works
It's a very strange issue, for some reason only the FMVs/videos lag and stutter and can end up freezing the whole console, but the actual games play just fine if you skip the FMV or can get through it
I'm guessing it really is either a defective HDD, or the weird automatic sleep function is messing up the loading on the Wii games and it automatically turns off the HDD for a second but it's enough to bork the entire console
Well the good news is whenever I do get another hard drive I can just keep this one after switching I guess, I can store my gameplay footage there
so it's not all bad
I can understand that, at the same time I understand the perspective of the average person wanting to quickly ask someone about an issue without having to look at the mega thread on a forum from 2009 and scroll through 25 pages to find kind of an answer
indeed, which is why the least bad solution everyone seems to have landed on for actual troubleshooting / debugging / etc is a format like Discord forum channels: anyone can open a new thread for their issue, everyone who might be able to help can discuss that issue in real time with you, and having a whole thread to itself prevents confusion from potentially unrelated issues
Anyone know any monster raising Non-Combat games?
I tried recommending someone Monster Hunter Stories 2 as an alternative to a mobile game but they aren't looking for combat in games and I'm not really sure what to recommend instead that has Monsters you raise.
ORGA WITH DA STEEL CHAIIIIIIIIR
slime rancher?
but ofc those are ONLY slimes
i cant name any past that since the genre is rooted in SMT and Dragon Quest
im curious tho
fair enough, slime rancher is a good shout.
<@&98904370497740800> theyre spamming the same phrase in the other threads
Dealt with. Thanks
well done with the Targeting Laser DAO. Liberty spring your step to extraction.
Thanks Flitter, I'll look into this and maybe run it by em
There's also Ooblets but I heard it's been mismanaged by developers
There's https://store.steampowered.com/app/1978150/Kamaeru_A_Frog_Refuge/ but it's not monsters
Kamaeru is a cozy frog collecting game about farming and preserving nature. You play as a kind soul helping an old friend restore the wetlands of your childhood by transforming them into a safe haven for friendly little frogs. With the help of the game’s cast of welcoming NPCs, you will photograph and breed frogs to increase your reputation,…
this looks perfect for them, thank you
oh my god Kamaeru is the perfect pun for that
why's that?
kaeru = frog
kamau = to care for/look after
kamaeru = to be able to care for/look after
eventual consistency moment
No I deleted the second one
manual eventual consistency moment
is this lowkey an enormous genre and I've only barely heard of one game in it (slime rancher)
Wobbledogs only counts if you count genetic abominations as monsters though
i know a proper monster-raising game without combat must have a decent market but likely just not big enough for more than small indie games to fill that void
ive always been saying pokemon would do even more numbers if it just made a pure amie-style pet simulator game alongside the main series myself
I could've sworn Pokemon tried that at some point...
had they?
They did it twice but never really right
i only remember them doing it in the form of a minigame in gen 6 that basically cheats the game w the benefits you get
hm... I might be thinking of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey_You,_Pikachu!
Hey You, Pikachu! is a virtual pet video game developed by Ambrella and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. A spin-off in the Pokémon franchise, it was released in Japan on December 12, 1998, and in North America on November 6, 2000. The player is asked to help Professor Oak test the PokéHelper, a device that lets humans communicate wit...
Ya know what? If I can learn DMC, then I can learn a fighting game
Once with voice and once with a fucking TV
ah yeah this thing
Pokémon-Amie (Japanese: ポケパルレ Poké Parler) is a feature introduced in Pokémon X and Y that allows the player to develop stronger bonds with their Pokémon. It uses the touch screen to allow players to pet, feed, and play with Pokémon currently on their team. Players may interact with their Pokémon by petting or feeding them via th...
it was kind of weird
I have the shitty TV one
arguably Pokemon Snap falls in here somewhere since it is non-combat... depending on how violent you consider apple throwing to be
I miss when big developers weren’t afraid of doing weird, experimental games
ya that's what i referenced but it was only just a minigame
g6 my beloved
Nintendo still does weird experimental stuff sometimes
This, Pokémon Channel, Pokémon Snap, Colosseum, stuff like that. We don’t see things like that anymore. Just safe bets.
it scratches a similar itch but it wasnt enough to push me to play, i wanna like
raise a bulbasaur
or smth
in a Zoo Tycoon way or a Nintendogs way
nintendogs into nintenpokémon
the Legends series seems to be in the right direction, hopefully
Actually, it's usually the hardware they do weird experimental stuff with
Or daring ventures into unexplored genres
Indeed
answered this accidentally lol but zoo tycoon way also kinda sounds interesting
zoo sim pokemon game sounds
incredible
That would be awesome
there has to be an indie game for that somewhere
I remember hoping that’s what Pokémon Ranch would be, but alas
they have it wholly set up too
hey you pikachu jumpscare
I owned Hey You, Pikachu back in the day
Pokémon Channel, released in Japan as Pokémon Channel ~Together with Pikachu!~, is a 2003 video game in the Pokémon series developed by Ambrella and published by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo for the GameCube. The player's goal is to help Professor Oak refine and promote his TV network through watching broadcasts with the mouse-like Pikac...
This is what I had
Pokemon Snap (the original N64 one) is still the only Pokemon game I've personally played
Chill with your Pokémon
Immaculate vibe
I would still have a copy of Pokémon Channel if one box full of GameCube stuff didn’t get stolen/lost during the move to my current house
i would love a mainline pokemon game where like, pokemon are in their natural environment and do normal animal things like how they do in Snap
The gameplay was pretty basic but the vibes were good
that reminded me of the pokemon tv app on mobile
idk if i phrased that correctly
i remember downloading episodes on there to loop during vacations
having to figure out how to lure them out before doing the normal battle capture routine does sound cool actually
Legends Arceus is almost this. But alas, bad decisions with making it a grindfest
reminds me how the pokemon safari encouraged you to throw rocks at them lol
they should add missingno officially in the next game
though I guess that would require scripted instead of random encounters which is a much bigger shift than I initially thought
Mud, actually
Nope, it’s rocks
Rocks in gen 1
I swear it's been mud in every game I played
throw a rock at a
eggsecute ? were those in the safari zone
Gen 2 doesn’t have a Safari Zone
It was planned but it was cut due to time constraints
did they add it there
yeah that's what i remembered then
i was sad when let's go pikachu didn't have the safari zone
i guess pokemon go is like an irl safari zone
The original gen 2 games have some incomplete safari zone data in them
Yep, it’s always been rocks
rock on
in retrospect, I do have mixed feelings about the parts of Pokemon Snap that kinda sorta require you to beat up the pokemon to get an optimal photo (especially Mew)
i guess cuz the gameplay of the LGPE games is basically safari? idr
haha
Mew was so dang hard
it is really weird
oh yeah good point
speaking of snap i do have new pokemon snap but have never played it
i forgot they remade it
weak to rock as well
wild
for those unfamiliar with OG Snap's Mew encounter: https://youtu.be/JVWuJu7dyek?t=65
Oh boy how do I start this description off. Well first off before I talk about why I uploaded this, I should mention that at the start of May, I suffered a stroke. I got to the hospital quickly and my recovery has been good so far, but if you want to catch up on how I've been doing (and what exactly happened), this thread has everything, includi...
It’s pretty good
it's not a remake itms a brand new game i think
It’s not a remake, it’s a whole sequel
it's 2x effective, two birds
the temptation to buy atomic heart dlc but theres games coming out soon that i will be 100% buying
that's wilder
It takes place several years after the original
Yeah it was unexpected but I’m so glad they did it
holy shit that mew picture was incredible
Snap needed the sequel
yeahh
What's the worst Pokemon game
mainline or including apinoffs?
hey you pikachu
All
Damn I never got anything near that good back then XD
I think my best was about 6000 points
well hey you pikachu is a good answer
I don't remember if I went through with this myself or just read about how to do it
but they def made some weird pokemon games
does it count, the one where u had to pay to basically just have a 3d pokedex up to gen 5
randomly thinking of that Black/White typing game
Magikarp Jump
i remember reading about how you could take your pokemon snap cartridge to blockbuster i think and print out your pictures you took
dont talk shit about my goat 😤 😤😤😤 /j
Or Learn With Pokémon Typing
learn with pokemon typing adventure bahah
yeahh
lmao
gen 5 specifically did some weird stuff
i love you gen 5
Or [list of long lost Japan-only pre-smartphone era phone minigames]
Lost media
"worst X" always becomes a taxonomy game unless "X" is really clearly defined
yeah i figured like
they do need to be separated into their own i suppose
found apparently
i mean since like
rhat's how i could provide a "hq" screenshot
What's the worst Pokémon game released between the years of 2007 and 2008?
uhhhh "intellectual drill: pokemon diamond and pearl letter and number intelligence game"
Le boo. I got tempest rising and wanted to play it, but it seems to instacrash when I even just press play on steam
It's Pokémon Battrio
maybe the better question is why would you want to know the worst game
were you planning to play every non-worst game in the series
I'm playing the games from worst to best so I can have an even better time with each game
No I was planning to play the worst
Basically simulating Nintendo evolving from a garbage useless company to an amazing developer
ok play Black/White and Black2/White2 last them
Hell yeah
what even is the current gen
Pokémon Pizza
[insert dicaprio meme here]
I finally got past a level I was stuck on in DMC 3, it really helps if I actually switch between weapons, instead of just using one
Shaving like wrek grimes
I think i settled just fine
The zombies are urban focused so hardware store runs would be... Hard
Pun unintended
I think youre too new to send videos/pictures
need to wait for a while after joining in order to do so
I could see them but I had to download them
Also I don't know what they express because I've never played the game
What game?
shell shockers
its a first person shooter game
its goofy asf but its pretty fun, sometimes
Looks like the farmstead i settled on has a farm besides it
“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” ~Bilbo Baggins
A casual stroll to Mordor: join me in walking every step of Frodo Baggins' journey from Bag End, Hobbiton, the Shire to Mount Doom, Mordor in The Lord of the Rin...
Sure youtube, I'll watch a 9 hour 46 min video of Frodo walking on an MMORPG
why not
I guess this is the only way I'll ever find out what these books are about because I never watched LOTR
I haven't either
Decided to settle here, building a wall
Mod aboos
What abuse is it?
I was joking?
pretty sure that loops, i think i got 100k message a year ago in this channel and then it drops to 99999 again for some reason
