might as well continue it where it started
weighted belt in particular is really good with wanderer, which is why i use it
why is grandpas bed so fucked up in stardew valley
Probably because it didn't come out right when it got drawn and it wasn't worth redrawing
it's really funny
fetch me an image of what it looks like

yeah the art in this game is really great
WILLY WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED DICK AHAHAHAHA
Same word
@green fulcrum a certain dragon turns 27 today
Yooooo, my age! :D
Well, for now. I'm technically one year older
But yeah, this dragon and I have literally grown up together
Hopefully someday soon

Nope. We do not talk about that game.
as someone who drew fucked up couch: furniture is just hard

furniture, maaan
"man this boss is hard"
proceeds to switch to Tornado, no-hits it
THE POWER OF SPEEEEEEEEEN
hmm, I thought Spyro 1 was older than that
it's younger than me
Nah, it's mid-90s.
Sonic is part of my childhood
Not quite. More that his role is somewhat smaller and recorded in I think a day or two max, so he doesnt know why people are showering him with so much praise. He also never played games past phone type stuff, but he's correcting that and is gonna get a console to play the game

Stuck sheep? Not on our watch!
No more watching your stubborn woolly friend get stuck against a wall, only to despawn in a dramatic puff of frustration. Now, a quick prod will politely shepherd your baa-dest behaved sheep into a nearby open tile.```
It's still annoying and sucks a thousand dicks but at least sheep don't get stuck and despawn as easily.

@green fulcrum
ah, tis that time of the year again
"bringi are you just gonna play a new game without actually finishing year 1 like always" ....... maybe. but consider: there is no play police
and im feelin real good about this batch of new mods i added. did you know theres autosorting these days?? npc ships that progress alongside yours??? PASSABLE CROPS SO I DONT HAVE TO RUN AROUND HOPS ANYMORE absolutely delightful
im silking my song so hard rn,think im at the final boss
I'm currently on break because I skill issued at the final boss
am i stupid or is the closest bench in ||terminus||
that sounds right
her bigass bughead keeps getting caught on some attacks
bruh had such a clean run but choked
damn i beat it on one of my sloppier runs
I'm getting that experience a lot
Sandfall being bros 🙂

in some runs the mistake rate is consistent-ish and my healing can keep up with it, then in other runs I make all of my mistakes back to back and run out of health all at once, especially since this game is more punishing than most
ig it matters more where the mistakes are not how many
3 in a row? gg,9 spaced out? whatever
once the total mistakes are low enough, yeah they need to be spread out
of course my first few runs on any hard boss usually have way too many no matter what the distribution
im gonna try to either no hit the boss or 1 hit depends how committed will i be to this
12 hours and im not even halfway through at 4 😭
be sure to get the "true" ending before you go too hard grinding challenge stuff
there's even more content locked behind true ending stuff in Silksong than there was in HK 1
yeah im aware of it but idk the requirements for it
i do wanna no hit the boss rn though cuz i feel like im capable of it and majority of mistakes were lapses in focus rather than raw skill issue
fair
(feel free to ask us for a gentle hint; the HK thread might be ideal for digging into what you already know so we can do that)
yeah now that i beat the main game might visit the thread a bit
i hope theres gonna be a boss rush i feel like that would be fun
onto ending B unlock ig,went to eat and now my execution is shit
it'd also just be really nice to have a hall of gods at some point, some of these fights are rough and being able to practice as much as you want before doing them in steel soul would be so much better
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO

is accessing the DLC in DS3 as cryptic as it is in DS1
This should be "END OF TUTORIAL"
After this the game gets truly insane
This game is a masterpiece
yeah, both dlc are very very hard to miss
i've been thinking about saving up for a ps5 because outside of the upcoming rhythm heaven game i don't really care for nintendo as much now. i know the switch 2 is the hot new thing rn but there's only one game for it im interested in and that isn't enough to convince me to buy one if im just going to play one game on it. not to mention third party software on it is not the best since everything is on a game key card now. if we are moving into an all digital spectrum then i'd rather just buy the game digitally instead of buying a useless piece of plastic that only serves as a means of downloading a game from a server that can shut down at any given moment. also, i don't really care for exclusives on ps5, none of them really interest me outside of the older ones they offer as classic games. and while i can just play third party games on switch, my switch was purchased on day 1 and turns into a fire hazard trying to play any newer third party game, even the earliest ones that run on unreal engine. and while i could buy/upgrade my pc and play the games from there, i'm not a fan of playing graphically intensive games in general, and i'd rather use the money spent on the pc to do creative work that requires a lot of multitasking like the emoji making i do now. i'd ultimately stick with a ps5 to play games in general. i still do pc gaming but i'd rather have both opportunities at once they're practically both recommended for the best gaming experience.
if you travel, consider a Steam Deck
im not the biggest fan of playing games on the go, and the only console i'd play on the go would be a 3ds, which i have
the steam deck (and any handheld gaming pc for that matter) is far too big for me to consider it being a handheld
the 3ds barely fits in my pocket but i still consider it one because of its small size
it's more of a handsheld (with a s)
what do we think is gonna be revealed at tomorrow's Direct
Silksong DLC
Mega Charizard Z
Legend of Tingle
But then Silksong's DLC will be feature creeped into a full blown game, releasing maybe 2036 at the absolute earliest
we got mega malamar
that's rhe only important thing
im hoping for Mario 40th stuff
Mario movie 2 announcement?
nintendo stuff has been lush on the switch so it's gotta be something wild
maybe some more info on that new rhythm heaven game
hm, which character would they start designing DLC for, and then scope creep into a whole sequel
I suppose that is conceivable with Lace or Shakra
Zote obviously
for mario's 40th they're going to give us a three pack of remastered zelda games
zaza of course
I mean... A Link Between Worlds Switch Edition would be nice...
Or any of the oracle games getting the Link's Awakening treatment
Man, that would be nice actually
Art by u/shenanigansen on Reddit:
On that topic: https://share.google/oggzoDUWZoMBUloOs
literally, today

Any of yall ever play "I am Your Beast"?
Im genuinely going to crash out over the "get at least one S rank" requirement to proceed
Like I found a video of someone getting S ranks and you need damn near pixel perfect, single frame accuracy
(Spoiled for low graphics blood)
Im not sure how I could humanly do better
This isnt even like, a hard level
This is level ONE
You might think I lost the S rank missing the headshot on the last guy
But if you look, I drop to A before the shot is taken
Nintendo Direct in 2 hours 10 minutes or so ^_^, gonna tune in just to see if they release a Mario Maker 3 or something hahah
anything y'all would be hyped to see? I saw some discussion earlier, but idk who's awake for this atm
would be cool to see silksong
i wonder if anyone's gonna be saying that in the chat now, it'd be less annoying and more funny now that it's actually out
I'm sure it won't be too many more conferences until we get some unironic "Silksong DLC when" posting
hahah yeah fair enough
I"m sure there'll be a contingent of "OMG is silksong coming?" ironic style posts
what else could I hope for... hmmm
New Fire Emblem?
that'd be neat
Another Zelda spinoff like Cadence of Hyrule would be neat
Fire Emblem feels like we just got Engage yesterday (not that I played it)
yeah, i heard mixed things about Engage, and I couldnt' take the protag's hair seriously so I never tried it either
Release January 20, 2023
Wait, it's been that long?
I guess it was 4 years between Three Houses and Engage, so i suppose it'd be unlikely to hear anything soon
silk heart edition trailer someday
I really only care for the new rhythm heaven. I would love to have new info on it
I know my brothers are gonna be all about that tomodachi life news
is rhythm heaven the game osu is based on?
no, that's Ouendan
i don't care for the tomodachi life because i'll be honest, the game makes me uncomfortable
hope there's some news for ya in the direct
I kinda hope it's not all pokemon gacha news lol
and whatever they announce for switch 2, i hope it's enough to get me interested in one. im still wanting a ps5
that's fair, any particular games you're interested in in the ps5?
none of the exclusives interest me aside from the older ones that they offer as classic titles. the newer ones are way too realistic/graphics-heavy and are less gameplay and more cutscenes and story that my AuDHD brain/low attention span can't get into. I'd prefer if I had a better way to play my games since my switch can hardly run third party games anymore since I bought it on launch and it becomes a fire hazard very easily. you could argue that the switch 2 will offer a better experience but i'm not a fan of the game-key card system. i'd rather buy the game digitally instead of a piece of plastic that serves no purpose other than to act as a certificate for installing a game from a server that can shut down at any time.
you could also argue that getting a steam deck might be a better option, but to me a steam deck doesn't feel like a handheld because of its size. i don't like how bulky it is. i don't like taking things on the go either. if i want a handheld system, i'd just use my 3ds
and yes, buying or upgrading my pc could be an option overall, but i'm not going to play resource heavy games since they're not my interest. and with my interest shifting over to emoji making and messing with ffmpeg, i'd rather have a gaming pc for use on multitasking and making emojis over playing games
all fair points, so what are you excited to play on a PS5?
even when I do play AAA games, I find the potato graphics settings are completely fine on my low/mid-range machines; the kind of graphical fidelity that turns laptops into space heaters has just never made much of a difference to my immersion in practice
the only ps5 games that come to my mind at the moment are the 2 my little pony games, lego star wars skywalker saga (i have it on pc (xbox) but i don't like my laptop getting insanely hot and my family's desktop pc can't run it for more than 10 minutes because of its specs and how much resources it uses), the two care bears games, and some of the classic games on there. for ps4, there's cars 3, which i heard ps4 version is the best, especially for speedrunning. also, ps5 has really good game sales so that's a plus
oh also there's roblox
I think the only thing that really wowed me enough to want to upgrade my PC was the original PC Crysis 1. That game was so gorgeous for the time, and really delivered on that graphical promise. I suppose the modern equivalent is Cyberpunk 2077? though that's a very different game.
Ah yeah, fair enough
I wonder if the PS4 Pro would suit your needs as well as a PS5 would then? you'd have slower loading times, but nothing there is like, PS5 Exclusive right?
i'd rather not get a ps4 since everything is shifting over to ps5 now
hmm I suppose I can understand that
shrug who knows, maybe something will come up new that you'll enjoy
are there PS exclusives you're interested in
they said earlier only some of the older ones
like classic titles, none of the newer ones
oh I see that now
well for newer stuff, the sackboy game and the astro bot games are interesting, but thats all
I watched a speedrun of Astro Bot but it looked... kinda generic? like it's probably solid but I'd likely rather replay another platformer
well, i do at least want fast load times, and the ps5 has that
i don't like heavy resources/intense graphics, but i at least want faster and better load times
The PS5 has a lot of horsepower, so if anything does catch your eye, it's a good m achine to play on
I've got older hardware, like I picked up an XBOX ONE X second hand earlier in the year. It let's me play some older games, and it does that job well enough to enjoy it
It helps i've got some local game stores, and the console is backwards compatible
so as long as the disc reads properly, I can play it
I was really tempted by the newer, Series X, but like, there was no real draw to pick it over the older stuff. specially at the price difference
the series x got a HUGE price increase a few months ago. yeah no way i'm getting one now lol
they raised the price? how strange
that might be its biggest downside, I asked my brother to lend his PS5 to play it and he was like "but why?"
it won't see a PC port for a while, if ever, since it's very tied to the PlayStation brand
yeah, if it was on Steam I might've picked it up on a sale, but it's not a system seller for me; I can always replay AHiT or any of the 3D Marios
SUPER MARIO GALAZY MOVIE
huh
im watching the Nintendo Direct
Universal registered the trademark yesterday
So it'd be weird if it wasn't announced.
though i only learned of the trademark like an hour ago
Prime 4?
ye
ZA looks interrsting but idk, i didn't really like Arceus' gameplay
ZA getting paid DLC and the game hasn't even launched yet
JUST PUT IT IN THE GAME THEN
But proooof, that would mean delaying the gaaaaame
you know, not like any Pokemon game would automatically sell gangbusters or anything
plus we already had paid DLC for SwSh and SV, so clearly we should be grateful that they would put time and effort into DLC and pay for it
Man people are angry in the live chat.
why ?
Mmm yes thank you nintendo, mm tasty $80 game plus DLC
angry because day one dlc?
oh RE9
I'm just here for Mario so idk. Great for Mario, weak for everything else.
yeah nothing's really grabbed me so far besides Mario Galaxy movie
I was expecting more? Like the hype was there and then it fell kind of flat despite the reveals
Oh re7 and 8
They develop Ethan and the Winters only to abandon the family after revealing Rose in the DLC. Seems weird.
Fire Emblem ?
oops i poked my head in yt chat
It's a cesspool of hate.
Not saying it's completely unwarranted, but this level of vindictiveness is insane
Come on, give me something good to end off. Don't leave me hanging...
FUCK
.......
it was fine
Yeah...
nothing too mindblowing
I got up early and waited 3 hours to see Galaxy movie and both galaxy games on switch 2
That's about it
I'm not a Mario sports guy and the yoshi game looked kinda mid.
What was the last thing?
Fire emblem
fire emblem
new emblem fiah
Not looking forward to the backlash storm to follow this thing...
hopefully it's not as bad as Engage
I'm kinda excited t o see what they do with a new fire emblem
Well I guess I'll start watching reactions
i'm going to say it now, i didn't enjoy the direct at all
the only two things that caught my interest are the mario galaxy movie and the mario galaxy 1 + 2 re(re)master
i'm still not convinced on getting a switch 2.
I haven't watched one of these streams in years because there's always 0-1 games I care about
they didn't show any info on the upcoming rhythm heaven game, so i'm very disappointed
idk why i like watching them so much
i mean, i'll play ZA pirated so idgaf
my money can go to better things
like another multi billion corporation
anyway you guys heard that StS 2 got delayed to 2026?
what's sts
Slay the Spire
o
I'm... Just... Ugh, I hate Fortnite. It's a scourge on the game industry and I am definitely far too biased to have a reasonable discussion about it. If you're happy, good for you.
who's Edmund?
I'll fully concede that it takes up too much of my headspace rent-free.
Binding of Isaac creator
ah
The most i'll give is that it at least keeps the style of Isaac.
the Mom's Knife pickaxe is pretty cool too
DANGANRONPA 2.... 2!!!
as a fan of the series I'm going more insane than I already was

What an insane fucking year for games
Same
does that mean full game release barring future updated
1.0 generally means it's exiting early access and the game is complete
yessssssssssssss
Like, it's how it would launch on day 1 if it did have a normal release
goddamn I just finished Silksong
Hades 2 ! just 2 weeks away !!!!!!!!!!!
I guess two weeks is the new standard announcement timeframe
I am still relatively far from finishing it so that will be fun
tbf if I was less bad at it I might be doing more of the optional endgame content today
i should finish my replay of Hades 1 on my steam deck in preperation
wow i spelled that wrong
Cap did you see the Mario body wash that actually leaked the movie before it was announced?
no
So i guess there was a direct today?
oh cool
Neat
Was there anything else good in it? I dont have a good chance to watch it
The Virtual Boi is back
Metroid Prime 4 releasing in December
New Fire Emblem (Fortune's Weave)
DK Bananananana DLC (drops today)
Mario Galaxy 1+2 bundle for Switch
Some weird Pokemon life-sim game
Mario Galaxy movie
Naruhodo
Yeah it's not great.
Prime 4 and Mario Galaxy movie are cool tho
Not gonna get me to buy a Switch 2, lmao
DK Bananza dlc looks cool
I heard Pokemon ZA announced paid DLC before the game is even out
Kinda a weird move
Hades 2 has been pretty much feature finished since at least July, and what remains is some story element stuff that they didn't want to finish in early access
It's been pretty fun so far, I guess
Yer, that too
I still need to play the first Hades
I don't want to focus on it too much because it'll make me angry again
On the indie roguelite train, been playing Landfall's (Totally Accurate Battle Sim, Clustertruck) new game Haste. Quite fun, didn't think you could make a roguelite without combat
it's like if SEGA got their shit together and made a good 3D sonic
Luck Be a Landlord
It is also phenomenal game! I'd say wait for a sale (unless you wanna support the devs and pay full price :P)
I'd prefer to wait for a sale. Spending money stresses me out
Fair, fair. It gets pretty low on sale, I think
https://isthereanydeal.com/game/hades/info/ yeah, 7$ instead of 24.99
I finished Wolfenstein: The New Order yesterday, I think it's my new favorite shooter
It's really good
When we started making THE FINALS, we wanted to bring together all the things we always loved in games: player choice and systemic design, deep interactivity, sandbox physics and destruction, and both playstyle and visual customization, and make them the foundation of the entire game. It was all about giving players agency, creativity, and the a...
I wasn't really expecting Wolfenstein to make me cry, but it did. Unfortunately I did not get the achievement for finishing it on Über or i am death incarnate, cuz I switched from Über to IADI midway through the game, and then decided to fight the final boss on Über
What.
I don't...WHAT. That's such an asshole move.
I have far stronger words but I am keeping them to myself
it's not that bad by comparison
$100 virtual boy accessory, or $25 if you want some cardboard, and also $50 a year if you want it to even be usable, on a system that costs $450, to play games that were released like 30 years ago
Like, it's one thing to vaguely announce DLC that will be coming in a year or so after release, that's fine. But to announce paid DLC for the game before it's even released and say that it'll be ready within a month? That's scummy, even for Nintendo. Just delay the game for a month.
okay but like, if they didn't announce it beforehand but released it then anyway nobody would care
this is on the very tame end of nintendo's anti consumer stuff
But the holiday season!!!!!1111!!!
borderlands just released at $70 with an additional $60 edition that promises a certain amount of dlcs, and then they'll probably release more that aren't included later, and has horrible performance issues apparently
tbf with pokemon i feel like u could just always expect dlc was bound and the og game would never ever be the full one, even tho it is basically testing the waters if they can just do it exactly on release day probably
this is what gaming is like today, just don't buy this shit
platinum, emerald, etc, wouldve all been dlc instead of separate game releases
ig the difference is just that gearbox is notorious for pulling this
nintendo has consistently been a horrible company with a solid amount of good first party games
never forgetting the patent thing for an idea that wasnt even theirs to begin with lol
but they're worshipped so much that you will never see a significant price drop on anything
and suing a guy into nothing after his life was already ruined by prison time iirc
like millions over one person
i wanna see if i can find that article
i'll prpbably remove the <> for the sake of the headline
I thought Über was just IADI but with permadeath
I finished it on IADI the second playthrough (Wolfenstein 2, that is)
and yes, the story feels just as screwed up as on the first playthrough. 👀
oh shit yeah the time to play hades 2 is now
I'm curious to see if I'll be able to notice the areas they've finished in the time I last played this and now
Is development done? Is it released?
2 weeks
Sounds good
Why is it always "two weeks"?
So I can finish what I'm doing hopefully
Never one week, never three weeks, never four or five, always two.
(I wont)
Silksong?
The full update comes out in 2 weeks but I'm gonna put some more hours into it beforehand if I can
maybe I'll finish Metroid Dread in the meantime too
Hades 2 is 'feature finished', so everything region/mechanics/weapons wise is implemented. What's missing until launch is the story-related stuff (like seeing what happens after you beat a run, and when you're getting to the epilogue point of things)
I know I know, I played it a bunch at the beginning of the year, but there were major things like character portraits that weren't finished yet is the kind of stuff I'm referring to
I didn't even get far enough to really see any important story unfinished things
Yeah, all that is in now 🙂 ||Narcissus has a picture!!||
It might be in The New Colossus, but it isn't in The New Order, which is the first one
If Über was permadeath in the first one, I wouldn't have even tried it ngl
I haven't played the second one in a long time
I'm downlaoding The New Colossus now
It was the first ever Wolfenstein game I played
I don't remember much from it, besides that I had a lot of fun
It's also just a really fun game
I believe Youngblood is the one that's sub-par compared to the rest
From what I've heard, that is correct. I haven't played it
I've heard that too
Youngblood is not very good, but I still bought it on sale for €6 years ago for some reason...
if u have every other game it does feel frustrating when ur missing just one title
I will simply not think about it
it's kind of sad, Wolfenstein has a legitimately bad game in its roster now
while Doom and Quake basically have no bad games (if you only consider the best port per game, i.e. exclude bad console ports from the equation)
Doom (whichever is the one where you aren't the Doom Marine) and Quake 4 are bad from what I've seen. Youngblood fits that bill too.
Quake 4 is still at 80% on SteamDB score
this is not a "bad game" by a large margin
Youngblood is much, much lower than 80%
doom 3 was kind of contentious wasn't it? but i suppose mostly bc it didnt feel like doom and not bc it was that bad?
ok yes, there is one bad Doom game and that's Doom VFR, a VR spinoff of Doom 2016
Doom 3 is like Quake 4, not anywhere near bad in terms of user ratings
and reception at launch was very good too, most reviews were glowing
(the game ended up very dark despite the glowing reviews though)
trying to ignore all the missing games from series in my library that are simply unported
loool
ill give it the positive review for birthing the dark mod
turns out being so dark made it good to be completely revamped into a thief game
TAG 1 and 2 are so low wtf
i assume that's bc of controversy with the composer probably
I think there's two reasons to that:
- People unhappy that Mick Gordon was badly treated and Andrew Hulshult replaced him (he did a good job still, but it's not the same)
- Difficulty is a problem, you need to play TAG 2 on one skill level lower than usual to get a similar difficulty as the base game. The anti-ego shooter 🙂
yaa
TAG 1 doesn't feel a lot harder than the base game to me, but TAG 2 seems like Plutonia to me
play it on HMP and have a good time, probably... I did this for Plutonia, it's infinitely more enjoyable this way
andrew hulshult and david levy right?
1 more composer
i would like the difficulty but i think i doomed myself out playing the og game so i never got the dlc
plus i had a nightmarish key setup to be able to quickly swap the weapons and i didnt want to relearn it lol
Chad Mossholder
No reference is linked
= A random person put it in the article because they think it's true but have no proof.
ah
Odds are, whoever added him as a writer read the IMDB page first
Actual interviews and news only talk about Mossholder's audio roles
Good enough. If the credits say he was a writer then he was
I have youngblood and tried to play it, but I believe it crashed my computer or was a full on black screen and I never tried it again
Very late reactions to the Nintendo Direct:
DQ7 re-remake! I’m curious on what they’ll change besides the already mentioned things.
they mentioned theyre removing monster classes but giving dual vocations
peps revamped?
and ofc streamlining the story to be shorter since a big issue with dragon quest 7 is how long it is
ironically was also something 3ds dq7 remake worked to cut down on
anyway, knew dq7 remake was coming due to leaks and it was likely to be this direct, but loving how graphically pretty the game looks haha
Holy shit, they amped up the difficulty in Wolfenstein 2. Idk if it's just cuz you have limited movement in the first level, or if its just that much harder
oh yeah just adding on, dq2's hd-2d had a showcase in japan's direct with a new underwater section to the story, if you're curious about that
how is it?
Just as good as it was the first time I played it
ahaha nice
when are people gonna stop getting grifted by this game
Reminds me of DQ6's undersea diving. I need to replay that on the DS sometime this year...
meanwhile ill be playing dq7 on my 3ds lol
This is worse than NMS at this point.
What a disaster.
I swear if NMS devs ever spend an update cycle on an optional less arcady set of controls, they will immediately eat the Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous lunch like it's nothing
im seeing a lot of people complain about the legends z-a dlc being announced before launch and while i do agree, there have been instances where dlc for games was announced before the game released
for example... mewtwo in smash 3ds/wii u and piranha plant and joker in smash ultimate
but yeah i will agree nintendo (the pokemon company in this case, really) is really scummy and money hungry
at least on ps5 and xbox games go on sale all the time
heck even steam
At least Plant was free for a time, as was Mewtwo IIRC
Plus Joker was released 4 months after his announcement, so clearly they wanted to see how the game would settle first before adding more characters. At least, that's my crackpot theory.
Plus like, isn't post-launch DLC normal for fighting games?
yes it is
Fuck, GGStrive is still getting DLC 4 years on
if there's anything we should be against it's pre-order bonuses that don't ever go back on sale
I'm looking at you, Atlus
Which yea, i agree with, but different issue.
We're talking about like, day 1 DLC being announced a month before the game even releases.
If i may, I belive the anger is due to the long dev time of the game. They had plenty of time to make this DLC part of the game
It just comes off as greedy
Pokemon also has a bad reputation of quality now, so that's not helping
Joker was revealed a day before Smash Ultimate dropped and again, Plant was free for people who bought the game within the first month.
Smash is widely beloved and generally regarded as high quality so there's less backlash
you can blame TPC (the pokemon company) for their tight deadlines
There's a lot to blame
at least gen 10 is likely going to be 2026, but let's not get our hopes up
And was only paid DLC later. Which yeah is still dumb, but it's not quite the same as dropping a shit ton of content and going "pay us more plz."

Like, I think a comparison would be World of Light being DLC.
Or something of similar scope. One character in a massive roster of 70 or so isn't a big deal in comparison.
(At least in regards to Smash Ultimate's launch, don't technically 80 odd characters me)
Still no N1RV-ANNA

That being said, I don't think I've actually played any "big" indie games this year, lmao
yer, lookit.
Unless you really want to stretch BA and Uma as "indie"
huh, I hadn't even heard of Ghost of Yotei
Great Circle feels like the kind of thing I might've played had nothing else taken priority
as it stands I'm gonna be agonizing over when to play E33 and Hades 2 for the rest of this year
Death Stranding 2 I "know I should" but I'm just not in the mood / up for it
They should have called it Ghost of Twoshima
2 Ghost 2 Tsushima

tbf i wouldn't risk modding an actual 3ds for a capture card
as in like physically modifying the 3ds
mayhaps
Nice
Interesting. So a lot of youtube channels are reporting viewership is down.
What some channels are finding is that when they look at their analytics and see views by device, the percentages (pc, tv, mobile, tablet) have historically been the same. And then, on august 10th-ish, the views on PC show a very noticeable drop.
Leading theory is the continued war against adblock, and people viewing with an adblocker are just not being counted as a view at all
the leading theory I heard was issues with a new "restricted mode" feature, but I haven't done any research
I heard that too but that was before people found the device thing
only PC dropped?
Yep
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGS_bBaC8WM Probably the best explanation for it (bellular found this data too, and the comments on Josh's videos have the overwhelming majority seeing the same thing)

Thanks to the Patrons for general support
weird, I'd heard the exact opposite, that "restricted mode" only defaulted on on mobile devices
oh damn JSH got in on it
He does mention restricted thing very briefly, but I think that's a separate issue. Probably AI being used more for recommendation algorithm and pulling up years old videos rather than newer stuff. That graph there more suggest that the views just flat out are not being counted at all
oh yeah i have seen older videos being pulled up lately
ok that seems pretty conclusive that it's probably a change to PC view counting
he does say the restricted mode theory isn't totally dead since maybe that's doing some PC-specific thing we don't understand, but yeah, clearly device is the primary factor
The adblocker thing isn't guaranteed, but its a very likely suspect
agreed
so mean
this game is so good and I love it but oh my god this is like the 4th time I've been running around the entire map like an absolute idiot trying to figure out where I was supposed to go only to find out it was that one wall that I already checked 2 hours ago in a prior area that I just did the interaction wrong and that was the way I was supposed to go all along
I do still really like that the game is the way it is but this is the inevitable friction that comes with the game not holding your hand at all, I do just wish they at least let me know I could jump during the sprint charge
oh yeah, one of the few beefs I have with the mainline Metroid games is they never explain all the (expected-by-vanilla) tricks you can do with the Speed Booster
half the time 100%ing one of these games involves looking up what tricks that game's speed booster supports
the weird part is that it's not like they can't do it, for most of the experience the layout of the areas and the overall pacing kinda clues you into where to go next, but the more these areas open up the harder it is to keep track of which missile block you didn't break yet, and the game just sort of assumes you already know where those are
I do appreciate a lot the highlight icon function on the map that is actually really nice to have to track down things like grapple beam blocks and such
yeah, in the post-HK metroidvanias it's become standard to let the player place in-game map markers
PoP:TLC even let you place screenshots on some map makers
Yeah I remember that it was kind of the big feature from that game
at least the one that immediately prompts "why doesn't <other game> have this" questions
the original Doom had placeable map markers in 1993, there's no excuse 😛
(M to place, C to clear. There's no limit)
I've used this feature for some particularly large maps like Foursite
lol, in the HKs you have to buy your map markers (...and your maps, and the quill to fill in your maps)
what
it's a vanilla feature, all source ports have left it intact (but it also means they usually didn't improve it)
there's also a hidden Asteroids minigame, but it was disabled before launch. It's in the source code release
but yeah, Doom has a bunch of obscure features, like coop spy (watch another player's POV in multiplayer by pressing F12), direct messages to a player, chat binds and so on
coop spy would be useful in a lot of games, especially if you could have it on a small PiP window
that's crazy
that
that's wild
you can also press F to disable following in the automap, and pan the view with the arrow keys
R toggles rotation in many source ports, but isn't available in vanilla or the re-release (I kind of miss it)
all of this works in Heretic/Hexen/Strife, by the way
oh, and press Enter to see the last message again in case you missed it. It's useful to remember what item you last picked up
this feature is actually not present in the re-release! Literally unplayable
yeeeeeah it's my favourite cutscene in the game
or, well, second favourite, behind the other best one
Okay I complained about the game not giving me directions and now the game is explicitly giving me directions twice
non-linear games do be like that
is the starting longsword supposed to be this good
like it's fast and does a lot of damage
@river veldt so I have my favorites arranged into 3 Steam "collections", this is "Favorite Metroidvanias":
"Favorite Puzzle Games":
and "Other Favorites":
I think the only big omissions due to not being on Steam are the Metroid and Sly Cooper games
Cocoon and Superliminal were very fun
i should try Superliminal
Oh, I glanced at this screenshot, time to relisten to "My Only Chance" for the 10535th time
its pretty fun, I recommend
Here, in case you also need to experience some peak https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeAAi7jWOl8
Neat, it's my turn for the Valve Hardware Survey again
You are doing your part!
How often do you get those? I feel like I get asked maybe once a year at most
Don't remember the last time I got one
https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/
Augusr 2025 stats for the hardware survey
Win11 is winning now with 60.39% of surveys having it
oh boy I just got cobalt core, I can't wait to see how my first run will- oh
2 damage across the entire run, huh?
yo nicely done
I mean, yeah. Its either upgrade, use Linux, or live dangerously.

just when I thought ''I'm probably fully geared up'' the game laughs in my face and tells me how much of an idiot I am for foolishly believing such things
I'm only missing a single upgrade I think which is the upgraded bomb I'm pretty sure, other than that I think I got every single other tool I need for all the obstacles I found, which means it's time to clean up the map and pick up every single thing I missed previously
ah yes, the sonic upgrade
Looks good enough to eat
the amount of precise execution and movement options to get some of these items is really really engaging and fun but holy hell are some of these really mean by the developers, especially the ones with disappearing blocks
one of these took me 16 minutes just to figure out the precise movement you have to do to get to it
this one was the worst one by far in this particular area, specifically because it doesn't even show up on the map
so there's no way to even know there's an entire area between the elevator and this point
but hey 90% items on this area
yay, just 4-5 more areas to go
I get them once a year on average but it's quite random, I got it 3 times in a single year once
I haven't got one on this current PC yet, but I had it 3 times on my previous build
they really don't want me to count as the only Linux player with a 5090
impressive zero-to-death

I have a few others from this session, I'll make a montage
and yes, it's a down throw. It's a true combo into side B or fsmash if the opponent doesn't tech it. Teching it isn't too difficult (you generally know a down throw is coming your way), but the timing window is tight
Seems like Spiffing Brit made a "Y'all are wrong, calm down, it's normal" video with little to no evidence and JSH made another video on the subject to reply to that
What does general gaming think about nitro type
yeeeeeeeeees
only one of the best typing games. because theres only 3 typing games ever
there is some funky looking word game mandalore reviewed that interested me
which is uhm
not a typing game but
yk
what game is it?
ic
aaaaand that's 100% on Metroid Dread
well, minus the final boss of course
Raven Beak's not even gonna know what hit him when I set down 15 nukes on the floor frame 1 of the fight

woooo
you know what the funny part is, some of those hidden items were much harder than the actual final boss was
how was it to play overall?
I still think it's about as perfect as a metroidvania can get personally and it's still the best metroid in terms of gameplay and just how good it feels, even just moving around in the game feels incredible, I thought it was perfect when it came out I still think so now, if there's one thing at all that I could say was a negative for me is that some of the hidden items can get really unfair, but they're hidden and optional, so it only matters for anyone wanting to get the 100%, I feel like I also would've liked one more area that lets you play around with all your toys once you get your full kit, just because some of the items that require some of the later upgrades are one or two per area, so the only other negative I can think of is I wish there was more game in that final stretch, but the item hunt is kind of fun in itself, and also the length of these games is kind of perfect as it is, just like most survival horror games they're only as long as it takes you to complete them and the better you get the shorter you can make them and that's just how I like them to be
The only thing stopping me from calling the game perfect is just that no game is perfect but damn this gets pretty close, I think the only negative criticism of it I have is one I had even back then and that's that some of the areas lack some of the variety in terms of visuals and music that the older games had which is pretty much the only thing stopping the game from being perfect
awesome, thanks
I think it's on sale atm... (well a Nintendo sale anyway) so seeing your take on it is useful
ah damn, looks like I didn't put the switch in right or somethign last time, it's out of power lol
yeah, Dread is still the game I'd recommend to anyone who's never tried a Metroid before (assuming they already own a Switch)
Metroid's one of those rare series that genuinely seems to just get better every installment, and simply stop releasing if they can't make it any better lol
Unrelated to anything, but
The Crew Unlimited is finally out
I've played Afterimage. Pretty good metroidvania, but not one of my favorites. Never heard of the other three.
Tower of Time is an ARPG, though not quite to the level of craziness that you can achieve in others. Neat enough. Played it a couple years ago because I got it free elsewhere, I think

I thought this was some remaster of some obscure Nintendo DS game I never heard about, but no, this is just an extremely well produced indie game
It looks so genuine and the animation looks just like 4k scans of old 90s cel animation, it's kind of insane
Very Ace Attorney with the art style, and a little bit of Professor Layton with the music towards the end once the piano and violin kicked in

I've been sleeping on Project+'s gnw side B this whole time, especially since it's easier to manipulate its results (the LEDs above gnw tell you whether your next number will be odd or even)
the 9 has less kill power than in any other Smash game, but the other numbers are a lot better... even 2 can get you a KO setup (!)
Yeah, I read that out of all the signatures, only 3% were ineligible, and were likely not even bots but just simple errors.
People were honest and sincere
Here's hoping we get good news for once. This year has been just shit after shit.
Indeed. Though this year has had some stellar games, to be fair~
my current goal is to get irl chores and modding releases done before Hades 2
additional Silksong play throughs will just have to wait for a meh year
I would like to do another dip in NMS and/or POE2 before Hades, but I doubt I'll manage in time
I wasn't just talking about games, but yeah, there's been some decent games this year (not to mention Silksong, lol). Kinda wish we had more years like 2023 though. Now THAT was a good year for video games.
Refresh my memory then, what major releases have we gotten this year besides Silksong and Mario Kart World (and soon Sonic Racing Crossworlds)? I have genuinely forgotten most.
donkey kong bananza
That's one
Ah true, that's two
Like
- Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
- MH WIlds (which runs like shit sadly but is pretty amazing as a game)
- Blue Prince if it was out another year would have been a strong contender for Best Indie
- Indiana Jones
- Clair Obscur: Exp 33
- Doom: TDA
- The new DK
- Dune Awakening
- Death Stranding 2
- Silksong
And now briefly
- Hades 2
- Silent Hill F
- Ghost of Yotei
And god knows what else
what did we get in 2023?
Zelda TotK
Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, Re4 remake
Baldur's Gate 3, Tears of the Kingdom, Alan Wake 2 RE4 Remake, and several others too
damn yeah that's stacked lmao
Some people would put Starfield up there too. I wouldn't, but some would.
Oh, FF16 too
IDK how they managed to undermine such an automatic win
Hey
Starfield wasn't awful
I played it for a decently long while
Starfield isn't awful, but it's bad in the way that counts
Spider-Man 2, Dave the Diver, Slay The Princess, Mario Bros Wonder
I played it a lot as well
The Super Mario RPG remake was 2023 too
Splatoon 3
Wait, no, that was 2022
Pimin 4 was 2023
Okay yeah, a pretty good lineup
Still not quite as strong as 2023, but still good
There is arguably more too, but those are probably the standouds
Yeah, Gen posted a bigger list above
Battelfied 6 is shaping to be a big hit as well, unexpectedly
Yeah, they learned from their mistakes there
He posted essentially the same list plus a few more
The Alters, MH:W (before all the performance issues), tony hawk 3 & 4 remakes, Doom Dark Ages
Also Sonic Racing Crossworlds is shaping up to be a very strong competitor for Mario Kart World (which has strangely died a bit in popularity, I haven't heard anyone talking about it or seen anyone playing it).
Oooooh right, Doom The Dark Ages, that's a big one too
I haven't heard much good things about MKW
chocolate shake !
Civ 7 was this year too but that didn't do too well, Avowed, AC Shadows was this year (not stellar but I haven't really heard anything bad about it. And it was a pretty big release?), world of goo 2 (!), Space Marine 2, Elden Ring Nightrein, Dune Awakening, all this year.
The ones from Gen's list and the image are the biggest/top ones of the year, but this list are others that were considered big or made some waves. Not necessarily always the absolute cream of the crop, but they were talked about
Slay The Princess ?????? what is that
You're on a path in the woods, and at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess.
You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world.
She will do everything in her power to stop you. She'll charm, and she'll lie, and she'll promise you the world, and if you let her, she'll kill you…

visual novel/puzzle ish thing, I believe?
i think Market Pliers played this so i'll watch that
looks interesting
im saving my money for Clair Obscur atm
It's a choose your own adventure game with a horror/visual novel twist. There's like two dozen endings, lol
oh like shadow the hedgehog
Market pliers

E33 is absolutely the best game of the year
If anything I'd kinda argue it's a bit like Undertale and Doki Doki Literature Club in that the game remembers your choices from previous runs even after you reload or complete an ending.
it just might be my personal pick for goty too
it was also on my favourites list you asked for the other day
oh yeah i remember that now
Someone remade/remastered SMB1 (+extras) inside the Godot Engine @visual hill
https://github.com/JHDev2006/Super-Mario-Bros.-Remastered-Public/blob/main/README.md
requires an SMB1 ROM to extract assets, which are not included because nintendo would probably have a fit

So it looks like the adblocker theory is solid, but it's more that the data of the view even happening doesn't arrive to youtube - who still insist that they haven't done anything, and Josh and others are believing them. Seems it's similar to earlier in the year (or last year?) where youtube got super slow and changes in the adblockers were at fault, not youtube itself. Penguinz0 is not 100% confirming what Josh says but he's spoken to youtube and their supposed reply is along the lines of "that sounds about right, we think"

Starforge PC https://starforgepc.com/moist-yt
Gaming channel https://www.youtube.com/@UCxfr3b8IuHSzu22UHnAvHWg
This is the greatest adblock theory of All Time
Also, wiiiiiide Josh
whoa, nice
I saw it on F4
I've seen a bunch of Godot games in there
I think he mentions that the views have started to return to normal as well, so presumably adblocker has figured out a finer way block ads (or youtube has started to redetect such computers).
My favorite part is when youtube pops up a message saying "experiencing interruptions?" and blames ad blockers, even though I'm not getting any interruptions
"yeah, i was experiencing interruptions. from ads. which is why i have adblocker. to stop the interruptions"
(ive never seen that popup personally)
It's a small bottom left popup
I went without an adblocker for a very long time, but I can't remember what it was that finally pushed me into adopting ublock origin
desktop YT does still run ads for me, so either I added an exemption and forgot how that works, or it beat this particular extension
ublock origin still blocks them on my end
are you also on "lite"?
Full
Check here for opaque green boxes https://i.imgur.com/L36uyhg.png to see which exemptions you've made
If it matters, I'm on Vivaldi
yeah I have no idea what UI that is
Oh, it's the one you get when you click the ublock origin icon in the address bar
That's typically how you make an exemption or turn off the extension for the page
I guess Lite has a completely different one then
that raises many questions
In the game, certain farming patches are specialized tree patches. Unlike with regular trees, you're allowed to plant any tree you have a sapling for, then cut for logs and uproot it for roots.
In order to make it easier for people to train the woodcutting skill on any tree they like, they made these trees grow back after being cut
But they grow back so fast that when I want to uproot and replace them to train my farming skill instead, my digging fails
doin a hades replay before II´s 1.0 release, i call this "did you know backstabbing is a mechanic in this game?" run
entirely by accient but now we roll with it
I feel like I "knew" but ignored it during play, since I'm not sure I had much control over which way the enemies were facing as I hit them
u just dash thru them to face their back
fellas you wont believe what second chaos selection i just got
Are these buffs additive or multiplicative?
no clue
I don't think I ever learned that detail myself
Okay, they're additive, which makes it easier to balance when you don't know which ones the players are going to have
But also encourages you to get different bonuses because their value goes down the more you have of them
aw, i died anyway
thats what i get for fiddling with the mirror bad just before it
and also being rusty as fuck but oh well
i should boot up Skul
has anypony here played Clair Obscur on Steam Deck ?
But that's okay because everytime you die you get to go say hi to your forg 🐸
thats II spoilers
i mean technically i know theres a forg
"gee dad i sure wonder why i dont want mates, as you put it"
(we been known but its still so funny)
I related so hard to their version of Artemis
Oh you're playing one, oops
yeah ive been waiting for 1.0 version
now that we have release date i figured ill replay 1
since the last time i played was 2022
finally beat burgerking just now, the rust settled in oof
lets see if i make it past rats
I didn't play Hades 1 but I've been playing 2 since early this year, got pretty far into it but got wrapped up with other stuff, I might try to do a few runs now see how I do, shake off the rust
I've already locked in some of my vacation time for the week after Hades 2 1.0
burgerking 😭
thats their ship name i swear
i'll happen to be on an actual vacation
so idk how much i get to play in the immediate release window
there was this burgerking art of Theseus braiding the Minotaurs hair that i loved, let me see if i can find it
The bromance is real
historians will call them very good friends
yessss it was the first one
so cute

what's the mark you're missing ?
i don't think ive gotten any marks with J+E
i had the impression that you played isaac a shitload tbh
ive played it a lot but havent been as into it recently
now there's a videogame idea
Man, I should watch Columbo again. Such a great show. Sure it's formulaic like many crime shows of that era, but it's just fun. Murder, She Wrote too.
Ever hear about the "Gabriel Knight" game series?
took 2h to kill the pasts of the main enter the gungeon cast
Actually I think so, I think I remember seeing a video essay about it and how insane one of the games is, probably the first one
It's been literal decades since I've seen one, but it's pretty much a murder mystery game, if I recall
The 1990s was a time of rapid change in the tech powering video game graphics. From pre-rendering, to ray casting, to texture-mapped polygons, it seemed that a major innovation was around every corner.
However, the pathway towards graphical realism hasn't always been clear. Let's explore one such forking path: full-motion video. With CD-powered...
of course it's a video from Majuular
it's a great video
his videos on Dark Seed and Harvester are great too
I come back to watch those videos every so often every year
ahh detective shows just work really well in that formulaic episodic format
Columbo, Psych, Pushing Daisies, Monk, House MD is structured like a detective show
love them
makes it feel like the viewer can actually follow along and guess who or what something is
The recent Knives Out movies feel somewhat remeniscent of these. Not quite the same obviously but a great "whodunit"
loove knives out

did not know we got a third film yet so now i've got something to watch LOL

theres a 3rd? and i didnt know about it?
seems bc it released on the 6th this month hahaha

"Knives Out, its 2022 sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and the upcoming 2025 film Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery"
still odd i didnt hear anything about it
oh 6th for the early screening of it at a film festival
ohhh
we're getting it on the 26th of nov in theaters
which
i think is gt's birthday?
this really went full circle
I thought the third Knives Out is on the 25th?
I had heard it was coming but yeah I didn't think it was out for a while yet
Oh hey, deep rock galactic survivor 1.0 is out now
https://www.gog.com/en/promo/20250915_make_your_choice_promo and there's a gog sale for choice-heavy games, like disco elysium... and sovereign syndicate, which I believe was touted as a heavily disco elysium inspired game. Didn't realize it was already out

Irony: The Sonic Team Racing: CrossWorlds demo is downloading slowly. I started it two hours ago and it's still not done.
unfortunate i wont get to play it for some days
unless actually my mac can run it by some miracle
this shit got me praying to all gods out there that it works on mac im so excited to play it but the pc is getting packed up later today
hope you can enjoy it sooner than later
god i fucking hate steam its so fucking horribly bugged with downloads in the current "stable" release
"stopping previous download" my ass it aint doing shit
there might be hope, dying light 2 seems to run at a playable level if not well if i get in some optimisation, the beast i dont believe will be much more demanding to run and whatever more it needs i might have enough of
oooh i jsut got this too
i still havent finished DL2 tho
...honestly 2 did not grab me like 1 did
damn 44.4gb?
how big is 1 and 2 again?
1 is 42 and 2 is 67
so its probably on par with 1 on content, nice

i hope its the former
I should watch it

I'm fairness though, we are far removed from the Sonic 06 days. On average, on the whole, the games are higher quality since then. Genuine efforts, but they keep having amnesia on what lessons to take away
I mean, Frontiers was great (mostly), and Shadow Generations SWEPT.
Even the mobile games are doing well, from what I can tell
And now Crossworlds is another big hit
I think Sonic Team might've finally found their spark again
Just needed some good ideas, some good people, some good writers, and a promise to do better (which they have kept so far).
Sonic 06 is one of My favorite sonic games besides 3d blast
I remember Sonic Frontiers, people had very high hopes for it
I don't see a lot of discourse on it nowadays
Sonic X Shadow Generations was better received despite being much more traditional
If they bring back older characters from the series. It would bring a lot of the original fans back
they could actually make a Rougelike
That could work
uhh but most are just cheats bc u cant do much with the modding
theres one that adds a bunch of weapons but it's tge only one
delayed hedgehog outfit
idk how it's unlocked bc ive had it forever
probably for doing thebspeedrun doors
there's a couple of reference outfits
aaide from the direct collaborations like the skul outfit, hotline miami, katana zero, risk of rain, slay the spire there's also like
yea i did get the Skul and Ironchad skins
nvm for speedrunning the lighthouse which is like
good luck
lol
oh yeah the outfits make the beheaded like
genderfluid basically too so that's fun
more like gender sludge cuz like yk the head is a sludge thing

I've never heard of this channel
they make great video game documentaries
Maybe I should watch the Wolfenstein one
The hades 1 video is absolutely fascinating
Noclip is pretty cool, although I find their second channel not very interesting these days
(lots of random indie recommendations... which may appeal to some, but not to me)
one of my fave noclip videos https://youtu.be/uzX09_4hcPc?feature=shared

I wasn't expecting a sequel so soon
yeah, Hyperfunk looks interesting, but there's not much info on it just yet
I hope it's everything my friend is looking for in a sequel
Literally all it needs is a more expansive trick list and the online which is already confirmed to be there
anything else is simply a bonus
preferably more speed too but BRC has been incredibly mod friendly and I expect Hyperfunk to be the same
i still need to play cyberfunk, but it's still exciting!
i was wanting to play jsrf first, i played the original a while back
yeah sounds good
I might wait for a sale on bombrushcyberfunk, it's a little expensive
It is, I bought it day one because I really dig the style and I thought these are indie devs so I'll support them, but unless you're super into the game probably wait until it's like 20 or 30

I am no longer begging for likes and shares. I have bent the knee to these mechanical tyrants for too long. No longer, I say. No longer do I sup from the trough of slop. I die a man.
Metroid 1 is all over the place and we should all be very thankful. Why do I say that? You'll have to watch the video to find out. Will you? Or will you simply get...
No it's not
is a weird game
a mess or great?
Whatever the video is saying
It needs to have a less ambiguous title for me to watch it

Fairynuff. I'll give you thouigts after watching it, maybe.
