they do have rathalos in ffxiv and behemoth hunt in mhwo
So I don't want to share any articles/videos about the subject that have popped up on my feed just because I've seen conflicting accounts over whether this is a nothing problem getting blown way out of proportion or an actual serious issue and I don't want to alarm people over nothing, but I have been seeing a lot of talk about this latest Windows update that supposedly can completely break your SSD if you transfer a large enough amount of files at once causing the system to not recognize the disk is connected anymore and possibly corrupting or deleting data, seen a lot of videos with alarming titles and thumbnails and articles about it and recommending people uninstall the last update, but not enough for it to seem like a big widespread issue
so I was at least wondering if there were any computer nerds here that might have heard about this issue or not
finally
i can mount Omega Monster Hunter
ignore the fact its been a mount since Stormblood-
Not sure myself, though I've heard similar things, the folks in #science-and-tech might know more
Ah I see, I didn't scroll back up far enough on that channel
I guess it might be worth it to roll back the latest windows update then maybe...
To my understanding, it only potentially affects certain brands of SSD
But yeah, I think there's an element of sensationalism to this story versus the sheer number of Windows installations out there. It's real, but I don't believe it's anywhere close to universal
Operation Na Pali in Unreal Tournament is pretty nice. Hilarious voice acting, too - par of the course for 2002 🙂
you get to fly a plane at some points too
oh god oh fuck oh god oh fuck oh god oh fuck oh god
wait, Unreal Tournament has a campaign?
Metroid Dread is still probably my favorite Metroidvania ive played
Hollow Knight is very close though
I forget, have you tried Prime?
yeah, Prime's worth playing if only to find out whether you like it, since afaik no other game (besides the Prime sequels) ever tried to emulate that particular flavor of FPS/metroidvania
iirc you never need to do wall kicks, so it might be easier to find the intended route by not doing those?
chriiiiist

it's a habit I gotta learn when not to do, the same with where I'm jumping since the jumps work differently in metroid
oh damn you tried to do that wall kick (0:04)
also charge shot yay
I think that was a legit speed trick
It looked like I could do it but I only figured out at the last second I had raised the water level so i could slide down
I tried it again on the other two walls but I couldn't kick off of them
yeah I think it's the speedrun trick to avoid dealing with the water level
https://youtu.be/nTkdt1a88eA?t=530 oh apparently it's this kick? maybe I'm thinking of an older route
i know it's the style but i really wish Elden Ring had a pause button
https://worldoftanks.com/en/news/general-news/update-2-0-gift/ World of Tanks 2.0 on the horizon, and they just revealed that they are giving a HUGE account bonus to every player.
They are giving everyone the top end of any tech tree branch of their choice, tier 6-10. This essentially means that players get an entire branch without having to grind for it. As anyone who has grinded for high tier tanks can tell you, this is massive.
New to World of Tanks? It gets even better because you get to do this twice and also 4 free premium tanks (tanks you normally need to pay real money for).
the convention I like which I've seen a lot of recently is having a real pause button with a tiny menu of things like quitting the game, and a second button for in-game menus like maps and skill trees and whatnot that may or may not pause the game
yeah Hollow Knight does that and i like it
UT99 has all the Unreal 1 monsters (even UT2004 has them), so many mods restore Unreal 1-style gameplay and weapons
UT99 is generally considered a better platform for modding because of better netcode (= better coop) and a few more engine features
even with modern patches, this still applies as OldUnreal strives to maintain backwards compatibility with vanilla servers
This reads like an ad
UT99 also has an official singleplayer campaign, but it's just a series of bot matches with some set dressing. UT2003/2004 were the same, but with better set dressing (you could even hire teammates, place bets, etc)
Ah, it's a mod, that makes sense then
I was wondering because I never played Unreal Tournament but I always associated with being multiplayer only
I mean it is a huge incentive to play
I have not been paid by Wargaming
I'm just excited for tanks
I'm glad you're excited!
Holy shit
Man, sucks i don't play WoT
I dropped it for war thunder
This guy made seven accounts and is moving them one by one so they can carry resources for him
They all have paid memberships and he's controlling them manually so I can't report him for botting
I think they're helping him train his construction skill as fast as possible.
It costs ~15 dollars a month to buy membership for each of them (unless you spend in-game money to buy it from someone who paid real money)
if someone is willing to spend a hundo a month on helper accounts to level up, more power to him
He should just do like what sane people do and pay people to run resources for him
It's cheaper and more efficient
The game even has an NPC you can hire that runs some construction-specific resources for you but that's not enough to reach the fastest possible rate
Oh they're all training their prayer individually
And they do have someone at the altar making sure the candles are lit to improve efficiency
I just saw someone describe The Stanley Parable as "the Backrooms but hilarious" and I'm not sure how to feel about that

They were right
respawned as blue baby earlier in the run after d100 fuckery and ended up beating ultra greed nearly stock
nice: never have to do greed(ier) mode blue baby ever again
it was a tainted jacob run initially
but its fine im more comfortable with that than blue baby
i dont like it,tainted and normal blue baby are my most hated characters easily
blue baby duo and tainted cain are like the opposite of fun
they're quite boring, yeah
but I still cant wrap my head around a few of the tainted characters
which ones?
thanks for reminding me i actually still need to unlock t laz
My brain can't comprehend juggling 2 characters in 1 body like that
with Jacob and Esau it's at least literally 2 individuals
I refuse to have the wiki open 24/7 for a single character's crafting recipes
that's totally fair lmao
if you're playing on pc the item description mod does it for you, theres alsoa website that gives the recipes
Generate The Binding of Isaac: Repentance Tainted Cain Recipes using seeds
yeah but like
remembering what I need to search for for certain items gets to me mentally
especially if I've been searching 2 separate floors looking for 1 specific thing
(i.e. a lucky penny or something)
i more of hate it cuz i prefer just speedrunning floors
yeah
thats why i love t lost,t lillith,and both azazels
t. cain runs can run you up to 2 hours a run
with t lost theres barely any min maxing to do you just go at it and not skill issue, the other 2 are self explanatory
i cant do Tainted Lost i am not good enough at the game lol
blank card and you got a run, especially with 4.5v
like its almost impossible to fail with that combo
both apollyon's are incredibly boring as a character, but at least they get results
initially I couldn't stand lilith
i think my favorite characters are Isaac, Tainted Lilith, and Judas
that's all I have to say on lilith
t. judas is so funny in certain circumstances
i meant normal Judas but Tainted Judas is super fun too
id be willing to do a no item run with t judas hes just amazing
glass canon and 4.5v on laz thats gonna be interesting
boy i sure love going for a tainted unlock and not getting a single trinket the entire run
amazing game,simply cinema,kino even
fuck this i had enough of this games bullshit for today
They got obliterated by flak

Perfect RNG on the struggling sapling random event
For this event, when you cut a tree, there's a chance that the sapling struggles to grow, and you need to assemble nutritious mulch to help it grow using five randomly placed piles of mulch materials
You have to experiment and figure out which order of three materials is best for the sapling. In this case, the best ordering was droppings, then green leaves, then droppings.
Typically you have to run between distant piles and then bring the assembled mulch to the sapling so you can use it, which wastes a lot of time running around
For this event, the perfect combination of piles spawned right next to the sapling, so I could do the whole event without taking a single step
iirc it released a year earlier on epic
I'm replaying Batman Arkham Knight, and I forgot how good it is

Dank heresy
this fucking ad jumpscared me
best suit: get
I'll cherish all the time left with the Varia suit in this game because the next suit upgrade I really don't like as much at all
also this Kraid boss is kicking my ass right now
being able to still control what you do during the counter sequences is my favourite thing, sometimes like during the final counter to deal the finishing blow you can fail them, most of the times if you press the missile button and just spam it's just an easy way to deal damage, and it's a really small thing, but it's so much better and interactive than having a giant button in the screen telling you to mash to deal damage, it feels very natural and immersive and it's a small sort of detail I've only ever really encountered in a game like DMC5 where you can do similar grabs with Nero and in the middle of those long grab animations you can do things like use your Exceeds or even Max Act, use your Devil Trigger in the middle of the sequence for extra damage and even shoot your summoned swords, all without the game explicitly telling you you can or have to do that, you just do it, it feels *really good
and I almost can't believe this is actually a part of the game people had an issue with, lots of die-hard veteran Metroid fans thought these little semi-QTE sequences were legitimately an awful part of the game and I can't wrap my head around it
the whole game is really just full of incredibly nice and satisfying QoL features like that, even just something as simple as being able to counter while in the air, hanging, while running, shooting while sliding, shooting and aiming in the air or while sliding, etc
it just all contributes to making the game feel so smooth and natural to play
I'm re-realizing just how much I really love Dread replaying it now
What operating system is this?
That's an Xbox OS, or modified Windows OS for Xbox.
This is my Xbox series x
Or s
I don't remember
Try restarting the console, if that doesn't work... then you gonna have to talk to Xbox support.
Xbox support has literally never helped me with a technical issue and has only ever caused more problems
I lost my previous long term Minecraft world because of advice they gave me
Sounds about right.
According to IT people I've spoken with over the years I tend to have "unusual" and "honestly esoteric" problems with tech
Like the amount of times I've had to tell an IT person I literally don't have the button they're telling me to press and then I share my screen or take a screenshot and I straight up don't have that setting
That shouldn't happen at all, let alone multiple times
Back in GA I played every game with half of my HUD missing because neither the TV nor the Xbox had the settings that let you adjust where the screen is
Like I'd follow instructions and then I'd be on the right screen, but there's just no button for adjustments
They'd show me a screenshot with the button circled in red
I'd reply with my own with my nothing circled in red
Well that sucks.
Reminds me of how I had a funny issue where I wanted to use the Windows Game Bar record feature but it kept saying my GPU was not supported (it was but it also wasnt turns out), so I contacted Windows/MS support and told me it was an Xbox support thing and would be transfered, then I was transfered and told this was a Windows/MS support thing and would be transfered, then the same thing happened and got sent back to Xbox support. The third time they told me to just do a few powershell scripts and that broke my entire Windows install and had to nuke it.
Turns out, the old gpu I had was not an AMD HD 7600 series minimum, but a rebadged gpu that was like 5000 series but renamed to 7670. So yeah, that was cool to find out after a year of the reset incident.
Luckily my current TV doesn't have this problem
However I can't pair any remotes to it
RDR2 is now downloading, and taking the amount of time you'd expect it to download, instead of instantly downloading
So I can only assume it's working now
If not I'm going to crash out
I think it should be okay now.
Console stability really has gotten lower lately. My PS5 crashes every time I browse too much on the Playstation Store.
Surprisingly Fo4 has been surprisingly resistant to crashes for me lately
Despite me having a load of mods with zero to no care in the load order
I've had 1 crash, despite me currently moving at mach 70 thanks to cheat terminal
I almost can't believe I got away with that
Captured Bf-109 with some random camo and an umamusume
Silksong is coming to game pass
wowza
so much for Nine Sols getting a gamepass boost
lol so, you say that, but I was more excited about that since hollow knight wasn't really my jam
yeah it probably will still be a non-zero boost
especially if they hang around longer than it takes people to finsih Silksong; how long do these usually last?
Depends on how long the publisher wants to be on it. Not sure how much it costs them
Switch 1 users can get a free upgrade
https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2025/09/02/xbox-game-pass-september-2025-wave-1/
Yep, it's official.

today and tomorrow are gonna be all about trying to finish my current metroidvania before Silksong's out
I'm playing POE2 new league so I hopefully can addiction myself into not notcing time passes
I hope they make it original to the games like the older ones
So looks like FF6 is getting the Octopath Traveller treatment and I'm so here for it.

I'm still playing 6, but this makes me wanna stop and wait for it to come out! Lmao
I've never played 6, but I've seen people play it a lot. Maybe now is my chance to give it a go.
why's octopath traveler in the title haha
help from acquire?
mostly saying cuz they've done other games with this style unrelated to octopath, like dq3 hd-2d
triangle strategy and live-a-live remake, too
I assume they are using the same engine
i think they all used UE4 from what i can tell
I assume chris pratt voices one of the guns?
I seen a post about actors confirmed for the characters. I think it was just a joke
@green fulcrum
Nice win!

You’ll be able to play soon

Well, I'm waiting on a sale. I'll miss out on the Werehog, but he's not worth paying about $100 for the game. I can get the digital deluxe Prime characters and the DLC season pass characters any day.
They will probably give it for free eventually. Did you manage to play the beta?
Nah, missed out on it
Ah.
I have gotten some pretty gnarly wins too
my favourite thing is when everyone gets super chatty and giddy in the lobby, it's really charming
How are you enjoying the new league? Have you tried Act 4 by anychance? I've been having too much fun with PoE 2 0.3
Iykyk
I have been taking my sweet time, halfway through act 2,unlikely I will reach act 4 before Silksong release sadly
I have been enjoying the buffs to grenades though
ooh nice nice
And fair enough on Silksong, PoE 2 will be here after you've been absorbed in and hollowed out by Silksong
Yeah, and besides it's a rapidly evolving game, even if I don't end up getting to maps this time around there is always next league
yup yup,. exactly
Sprint is a great addition for sure though
so good, you can move through zones or search for hidden stuff so much easier
heck, some speedrunner types have been using it in combat and skill canceling to maximise survivability
I like the tradeoff that it toss you down too
oh yeah, a stiff breeze will heavy stun you haha
I wonder if they will add some stuff to it and integrate with the combat more with unique or keystones that change how it behaves
Hmm yeah, not sure, I suspect boss design will be influenced in the future
I think that it's been recieved well enough that it's here to stay at least
nods oh for sure. And Asynchronous trade has made my day a few times haha, so I expect that'll stay too
I have yet to mess with it but yeah, love that it exists
yeah, though it does sort of make crafting a "later game" thing for me past act 4. The basic 2 affix crafting is easy enough, but regals and exalts can buy you a whole upgrade for 1 orb guarenteed
at least, I suspect that's how I'll be using it, i'm sure there's some way to use it more early on
At least they did change essences, they are probably worth messing with without spending exalted
ah yeah, that's a good point
Though I do wish you saw more essences during earlier acts haha, but maybe the RNG was just rough for me, and I imagine if you get stuck, farming zones would let you see more
Crash plane!!! Plaaaane.

Is MechWarrior Battletech inspired?
Mechwarrior is Battletech.
Specifically, it's the sub-franchise of first-person mech operator/commander video games in the Battletech universe.
oh interesting, thanks
Battletech is closer to the TTG side of things (and the original actually). Mechwarrior is more "real"/arcadey with the piloting of mechs and the like (think MWO as the best example).
how is Mech Warrior 5's base game? I see there's a lot of DLC for it, with the one linked above being the newest. Is the base game any good or is it like a paradox games situaiton where you need the dlc to really get the experience
Base game is decent enough. Most of the DLCs add specific mechs, weapons, usually a set of missions/unique starts. A lot of popular mods do require most/all of them (currently broken because of the now-released newest DLC).
Oh Marvel rivals is releasing on ps4
Took them long enough
Maybe xbox one eventually too
Fair enough, thanks for the info. Modding i hear is really good in Mech warrior, so that puts the price point a bit higher than I'm really excited for.
Oh neat, i wonder what they had to do to make Rivals work on the ps4
As always, give it a look of Twitch/Youtube and see if that is okay with you.

oh nice, they do Talos speedruns
I lost a few seconds at the end because I forgot to play in simplified chinese.
heh, language tricks in speedruns will never get old. I remember Perfect Dark speedrunners playing in French because it makes the objective success text shorter, and therefore less distracting
I did a few trickjumps I'm not supposed to when playing Talos, it's fun
it's always interesting when they play in a language that isn't chinese or japanese, bc it usually just makes sense why those are faster most of the time
so it's always some weird quirk that makes them pick a different one
more meaning conveyed in less characters ^
my electricity bill went up 3 times after I got my new pc 🥀
oh no T_T
I love how I'm running essentially an equivalent of a whole ass microwave at full power
I saw a 20% increase or so on the total power bill after upgrading
I don't use a lot of power, so it's quite significant relative to the total bill

An Unreal Engine 5 game with impressive image quality and no perceivable stuttering issues? That's the impression John received after a mammoth three hours hands-on play session with Silent Hill f at Gamescom 2025. Check out the ...
A modern UE5 release that.... runs.... good????

how can this be
Oh God, RussianBadger talking about the "yarhar"/"hear ye, hear ye" weapon is the funniest thing so far. Him just cackling madly while calling it a "dumb baby weapon" as he blows zombies up with the grenades it shoots has me dying
can the movement in this game stop being so damn good, for just five minutes?
also, I'm not entirely sure I was supposed to be able to do this...
You want it to stop being good?
Yeah the movement is just too good I need it to stop being so good
my argument behind why games should stop adding jump buttons is that i will never stop pressing the jump button because a primitive urge within me to leap and sprint across the vast fields hunting a lone bear with my fellow homo sapiens, stone spear in hand, overcomes my mind and this applies to every game with cool movement tech actually

Steam servers are having a moment. Sometimes it's up, sometimes not
Silksong is breaking steam

literally cant buy the game
I never seen this before
Even with Cyberpunk steam didn’t crash
just wait until GTA VI
Hearing reports that nearly all major platform stores are having issues?
Damn
DDoS
Distributed Denial of Silksong

Steam was uncertain for maybe 5 minutes then got back on its feet
I hope the game has a smooth launch and not too many bugs
Still fully broken for me
i cant buy the game
I just want to give them my money
Oh maybe the store is okay now it's the cart system that exploded?
We were playing Super Metroid last night and now I'm thinking about the metroidvania genre
Oh yeah, dead again for me too, happy I managed to snag it then

To put it in your cart you don't need to go through the store btw
LET ME GIVE YOU MONEY
What have you been playing Gen well apart from silksong today.
Did a bit Path of Exile 2, and some of NMS new update
Not much though
Mostly was killing time waiting for Silksong
If it had pre-orders
this would have been fine
LMAO
First massive game in forever that didn’t had preorder months before launch
Steam was not ready for a dev that was not greedy af
Is there a Switch release by chance?
But I want my steam achievements
Yep
isn't the eShop down too?
How is it?
I know Switch ports of PC games tend to be janky but I prefer playing on my Switch if possible
Steam, eShop, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store are all experiencing outages right now
:)
Not clue since the just came out and nobody is able to buy it lol
Hollow Knight was good af on switch
people are slowly able to get through, it's just everybody attempting at once overwhelming the stores
So should be fine
That's good. I might get HK, I'm curious about it with all the silksong stuff
And I need something to focus my energy into or I'll probably snap
I played it for the first time this year and I really enjoyed the 30 or so hours I played
I'd definitely have tried to finish it by now if my laptop didn't die on me
it's regarded as one of the best indie games ever for a reason
2D games are usually fine on Switch
If its a total jank fest I'll just get it on Steam
Apparently gog is working fine if folks wanna go there
I mean, you could always just wait until tomorrow or next week or whatever.
It's not like it's going anywhere.
No the game is going to shrivel and die if you don't buy it right now
it was less than 15 minutes between deciding to buy it through Humble Bundle and the game finishing installing
although when I recommended to a friend also waiting to get their hands on it, they said humble was having problems lol
Guys, I think something has happened
I was originally hoping to start the download before a work meeting, but now I'm fully wrapped up with work and I still can't load my Steam cart lol
always the way it goes with these things
"I was hoping to play a few hours of the game and then go to bed, but it's 9am.."
tbf it would be silly not to expect this

the something is how does dota have way more viewers than league rn huh
i thought league was more popular
Somehow you get this kind of thing happening all of the time for all sorts of products even when people should know better.
Think of the extremely long lines that happen when an In-And-Out opens in a new place, for example.
and the people like me who are here on literally hour 1 are almost certainly going to keep trying until they buy it
so the cost of temporarily adding server capacity is likely just not worth it
A day of disruption at most
in the meantime, what pizza do I want for Silksong day...
Anchovy
I love that Team Cherry announced the release date with just 2 weeks to go like they're still a little *unknown indie studio
iiuc on the production side they still are
could've used a preorder button more than Borderlands 4 that's for certain
Are they not indie?
This is weird, I'm seeing people complaining that they didn't allow pre-orders
What the fuck happened to make the narrative shift
they're still indie, they just have the sequel to a world renowned game on their hands now
not a legitimate complaint imo
the game is 20 bucks
in this economy
if Team Cherry acted like they were releasing the second coming of jesus and did full preorders it certainly would be a hefty AAA price
well, if they mean pre-orders including pre-downloading, then that is legitimate imo
just not a big deal; again all of us who are trying to buy it immediately should've expected this
What does the games cost have to do with preorders?
Preorders would definitely make it less of an issue for steam's servers
I also don't know why cost was cited
Three people
Three people crashed multiple game stores lol
I was listening to a podcast where Jason Schrier talked about the interview he did with the developers. You might like it:

I don't see waiting for steam to fix its servers as a major problem. I think it's an extremely small problem to deal with in exchange for what we get

yeah that doesn't connect to the statements being replied to
anyway, for now I'll just keep playing the other metroidvania I'm partway through
#firstworldproblems
meanwhile, I have yet to play a 2D metroidvania
I've only played a few
I'm still afraid to try La Mulana
Bring a physical notebook and you'll be fine
(if anyone wanted the serious "easy and accessible first metroidvania" pick, I usually say Ori)
What's that one?
wow i cant even log in, thats new
yeah, I got it in my cart a while ago but it can rarely load the cart and never complete the purchase

Gives me Indiana Jones vibes
That's right
It's Indiana Jones if it was a retro-themed metroidvania
Focuses on slowly deciphering the world and making discoveries. Known to be very punishing (2 is less punishing)
Aha
...ok id love to play that
the upgrade you find are things like fragments of text that let you translate puzzels in previous areas of the game
I don't actually recommend it for anyone, unless you're willing to keep detailed notes and expect to fail constantly (or follow a guide step by step)
lol
hence my earlier comment
it's the sort of thing I know I should try, when the right mood finally strikes, I'm too curious not to
but I've got a dozen or so other games that are higher priority
If I had to change one thing about it
It would be to add a fast forward button because my character is too slow
Speedrun trophies for silksong
King Knight's move
oh yeah haha
yer that in particular
like
"wait why am i spinning every time i hit someone- ohhhhhhhhh"
not sure if i'm misremembering or if i haven't actually gotten it before
This game was made by pretty much 4 dudes
One art, One Design, One Code, One Music
That is it.
Plus a few voice actors they hired likely on fiver to do silly bug voices
For Hollow Knight they all quit their jobs to work on that game
For Silksong they are all multi-millionaires doing it for the fun of the game
Now they are again, multi-millionaires 100x
Imagine all the money, being split by only 4 dudes
But they cooked, they cook hard, both games are amazing
Very well deserved
happy silksong day
is silksong GOTY material
Honestly, this year will be wild for GOTY
Clair Obscur so far is my GOTY
Blue Prince is a masterpiece
Split Fiction is good as FUCK
and now heccin Silksong
dying light the beast in a couple weeks as well
We almost had GTA 6 too
Oh and Deltarune chapter 3+4 came out this year too
Holy
Deathstranding 2 too
But really so far, my heart is in Clair Obscur
That game is just perfection
same, I'd have to go with the 33
Story, gameplay, music
I haven’t played a game like that in forever
That was the definition of masterpiece
ok, finally I have Silksong purchased and fully downloaded and got to a stopping point in my other game
I legit cant believe silksong tomorrow is real
it feels weird and surreal
Silksong is not my kind of game at all, but...damn, the hype did get me a little interested
yea i was referencing the 'silksong tomorrow' meme
I would try it out someday, but I'm not exactly dying to try it out right away
Hollow Knight was fun, but I had my issues with it
Just makes me want to play the game lesss
I pretty much only downloaded black ops 6/warzone for skeletor like a year and a half ago and then the beavis and butthead stuff two months ago and then stopped playing it after that lol
Now I don't really have a reason to play it anymore
Though I'm kinda tempted on the stan smith bundle and Roger bundle
They're asking us to cosplay our favorite character from a game in a week. Who should I be?
I feel the need to inform CaptainMario that in Silksong, you say "fren" during the healing animation
(Art by DarCowNova) Maybe I should go as The Engineer from Factorio
I feel seen. https://youtu.be/eC1VZZ9bqnk
YouTube Playables... my shame.

It all started from here.
How does it feel to be proven wrong not once but twice.
I guess it's not wrong to be a little skeptical at this early point--plenty of games have neat trailers and then flop, even if they're well-done--but it's always funny when you have the "thing that is massive success but people are really skeptical about earlier" 😆
r/gaming no less lmfao
I mean there's being skeptical, and there's being overly hostile and mean for no reason
This one’s probably up for debates, but you probably should never quit your job aswell for a project like that.
it's really obnoxious that people complain about "indie sidescrolling platformers" cuz like
what do you want 1 guy to do
LOL
also fully hand drawn so it's really ignorant of the effort being clearly put into the game
I predicted a 150k peak at first, I was very wrong
now I'm betting on 600k
yeah, people don't tell you to have a backup plan just for funsies
you need a lot of luck to have a successful game, good execution doesn't suffice
(look at Rollerdome)
to be fair, there are many underexplored 2D game genres still
the biggest part that bothers me is like
"cartoony," "pixelated art style" and "2d" being used as complaints for an indie game when those are just easier to deal with than 3d models and animation for a lot of those developers
Truth is, creating pixel art style also takes skill. It’s not as easy as a walk in a park.
yeah that's what i mean, it's also it's own craft that takes its own level of skill that gets unfairly dismissed by a lot of the gaming community
it's just more accessible for a lot of people to have gotten into than 3d modelling + animation so it comes across as somewhat entitled when i hear people complain about that art style from indie developers
Street Fighter movie coming next year
Here we go, Round 2. Hopefully they can do Bison justice just like last time, while also, y'know, making the rest of the movie good too.
David Dasmalchian (i think i spelled it right) is playing Bison this time so i have faith, he's an excellent actor
he played Polka Dot Man in The Suicide Squad
Nothing will top the live action Mortal Kombat film from the 90s
Yeah, that one isn't even bad. It's not a masterpiece or anything, but it's faithful enough to the source material, is fun af, gave us THE best Mortal Kombat theme, and is overall just a roaring good time to watch.
The less said about its non-existent sequel, the better.

this guy is trackmania's pannenkoek at this point
I trained an AI in Trackmania with reinforcement learning, to beat A01’s World Record.
Note: As mentioned at the end of the video, Eddie’s 23.79 record was beaten a few weeks ago by Rollin with a 23.78. But as you’ll see, this doesn’t change the outcome of the video!

all thanks to ||a miniscule gap in the track||
But then, AI got this run.
And recently as Jack Delroy in Late Night with the Devil
Think that’s his first time playing a lead character.
Excellent performance by him in that found footage horror.
I think he’s gonna do just as great as M. Bison.
if anyone was still wondering, yes, Silksong is just as good as Hollow Knight was (for at least the 6-7 hours I could do today)
You played until 1AM nonstop?
not quite nonstop
Big question: Who's the cutest side character you met so far?
(I don't commute on Monday or Friday, so I get to stay up pretty late on Thursday)
||the fast travel beast||
I guess for cutest it's gotta be between ||chimebug and bell beast||, and I can't decide yet
||bell beast geneuinely is so cute i wanna cry||
Is there a nitpick for you or anything that could've been better, or is it all around peak
im hoping to get Skong when my next check comes ☃️
I think if you look for nitpicks in any game you can spend your whole life finding them and die miserable
and it's always difficult to distinguish a genuine flaw from personal preference
ah there's people who will share those preferences, that's how people start to feel like they can trust certain reviewers over others
Ghostrunner II for free? Sign me up, the first one was great
I need to contiue playing the first one
Free if you already gave them money this month
I think it's hard for now to find genuine flaws because a lot of what it does is trying to make the few problems with the original smaller, at least so far.
There is no subscription required for EGS free games
Like, ||it gives you a very fast sprint so backtracking turns into "how well do I know this level, and for how long I can sprint without vaulting into lava like an idiot?"||
Oh I thought that was the Amazon prime one
They look the same to me as someone who uses neither
Fair enough
The way I like to think, is that it turns Epic Games money into Indie Game Devs money when I click to add it to my account, since the way it works, is that the dev gets a certain amount of money for every copy redeemed
so itd be mostly about the hollow knight formula specifically, which if you already like, you'd like silksong no matter what
I'm aware, I just wanted to know if there were any legitimate issues
Maybe nitpick wasn't the right word
Yeah if you don't like Hollow Knight or metroidvania in general, this is just more Hollow Knight just even more polished than the original and with a few lessons learned from it
yeah we haven't seen anything like technical instability or missing feature or a mechanic that doesn't work at all or whatever
if anything we're finding little details that, if I didn't know how long they'd been working on this, I would've been surprised to see in an indie game
I'm legit waiting like, a week then I'm making my avatar the Bell Beast for a year
there's also a lot we just can't judge until we actually finish the game
for example, I've seen very little of the lore yet, but if this is paced the same way as HK, then that's to be expected
Hollow Knight but you don't have to find and equip dashmaster is all I wanted
can you answer me this (if you know yet) ||is it a sequel or a prequel ?||
I think we saw a few telling hints already, but yeah, more to uncover
the dash has a ton of differences we all seem to like
||I honestly have no idea at this point||
Almost definitely ||a Sequel|| but nothing in the game hard confirms it yet
interesting answers
||im curious if it'll go out of it's way to confirm any of the endings||

You have heard of the infamous ''we threw away the original copies of Silent Hill so we had to remaster them with unfinished beta copies''
now, get ready for the absolutely infuriating: ''We literally overwrote the original version of the game with the changes we made for the localization and if we needed to do another version we'd keep rewriting the original version over and over so we needed a fan archive of the data to remaster this version''

i did a top 10 games, this time trying to limit myself to one game per franchise/series
Valve games are so closely knitted in their community that I literally forgot Half-Life and Portal are not a part of the same series
i mean technically they're in the same universe buuut i thought i could get away with it lol
where silksong /j
good list tho
someone asked me this same thing in another server
LMAO
Also no isaac
isaac is basically number 11
no minecraft is make me crying rn fr
hold on
Couldn't make the top 10: isaac is literally starving
When deltarune is done, where will that place?

When you turn 30-something years old
depends on how well it sticks the landing. if it keeps going how it's going then it might usurp Undertale
Would it change placements?
Well i meant would it still be 4th in the list
u good
Oh yeah, this movies gonna be such hot garbage I can't wait
Eh, I'll watch it.
Rate the loadout
I've not played CoD in a while, so no idea how those guns handle
Well this is OG MW3, unless you havent played that in a while
@bitter stream
I miss og mw2 I stopped playing new cods after blops 2 and skipped mw3 because I didn’t have any money but instead learned to mess around that my family computer was able to run team fortress 2
ah yeah, in which case that seems like a good aggressive loadout Thorax. I vaguely remember the concussion grenades being very good
thx, this is plutonium specifically, i'm pretty sure the ACTUAL mw3 servers are exploiter infested.
plutonium has enough players that it can still get matches going?
I mostly play private because I know I'll probably get dunked on against real players, but, I assume, yeah it should be.
fair enough, is there a way to add bots in MW3?
I only know how to add bots on plutonium, you have to download Bot-Warfare and click on the bat file to install it.
ah ok, fair enough
https://i.imgur.com/ZCvdIXU.png That's all I needed in a twitch stream
oh hey someone else playing metroid while everyone else is playing silksong
is it a real golden gun
Yeah
Someone named their planet "Bois"
Damn, for once a special edition that's worth it
no Silksong?
"1 game per franchise"
posts Half Life 2 and Portal 2
They're the same franchise, Cap. Portal is a spin-off of Half Life.
by that argument fallout is a spinoff of the elderscrolls
3 and NV are literaly in the same engine with many features basically unchanged
No, Half Life and Portal are in the same universe
I don't know if I would call Portal a spin off of Half Life necessarily, but it's not just a shared engine/developer, Half Life and Portal are part of the same universe
Not the same franchise though
I'd consider it the same franchise. It actively references events in Half Life 2.
It's like saying that Shadow the Hedgehog isn't a Sonic game because Sonic isn't the player character.
It's still part of the same franchise
i dunno
while i get that argument, shadow the hedgehog literally has sonic appearing as a voiced sidechar for multiple missions, and shadow appares in multiple mainline osnic games
portal basically just happens to exist in halflife by comparision
Okay, better comparison then: it's like saying that Pillars of Eternity and Avowed aren't the same franchise because they are completely different styles of games with almost no parallels aside from the setting, and yet they are part of the same franchise.
I think we're getting confused with the semantics here, I think we all agree they definitely are part of the same universe but objectively speaking they're not part of the same franchise, otherwise Portal would be called Half-Life: something something, that would make it part of the Half Life franchise of games
but they definitely are part of the same world
Reasonable disagreement but Cap already knew and decided they count as separate
Fair enough
Imo there's enough overlap for me to consider them the same franchise, is all I'm saying.
while it is probably technically correct to say they're part of the same franchise, the spirit of Cap's self-imposed rule is probably closer to "one per series", and is more about avoiding redundancy where N very similar games fill up the list than it is about narrative continuity
a more blatant case might be, e.g. a Mario 3D platformer and a Mario Kart game, which would also be same franchise, but different enough series / gameplay genres to make sense as separate entries on a list like this
"One game per IP" is probably more accurate, to be honest.
Half Life and Portal are both different IPs, but are both in the same setting, so Imo that means they're in the same franchise but not the same game series. If that makes sense.
The Finals has been getting tons of attention lately, and people are finally starting to realize how good this game is. So let me who you why it's actually more peak than you think. You should play The Finals in 2025.

Games used to be so much cheaper
$9 on sale from $19
Oh also I have a sealed copy of anthem I got for $2. I got it to try out and never did.
PC dvd copy
Yeah, but still sixty dollars, not $120 like games often are for me now.
And this was $9 in probably around 2010 as well
Prices weren't kept jacked up like they are now
Games won't cost more than sixty dollars if you don't pay more than sixty dollars for them
I only have once
But seriously like, buy a brand new sealed 10 year old game back then, way cheaper. Do it now and it is still probably $40 at least
brooo
How did they make it fit on one DVD?
It says 9gb on the back of the case
Remember that this is the original release with dlc, not the special edition
It's 13.01GB on steam
oh huh
Actually, this disc is just the steam version too. So perhaps some content is downloaded.
I have another disc like it too. You can install with the disc through steam. Hell it is why I got steam, got Alan Wake on disc and needed Steam to play.
Does any stardew player know how to fix this im Dying
is this SMAPI
Its stardrop modmanager
Yeah i have that, it works fine bc i just played
so the *exe is missing from where it was extracted maybe?
i know antiviruses can have a tendency to delete files on extraction but after that idk
I got it fixed👍🏻
New difficulty found.
missed opportunity for Can I play, silky? and I am silk incarnate! difficulty names
true lol
and steel soul is unlocked after beating the game normally too, not new
a while ago they talked about making a silk soul mode, with changes to ai and stuff instead of just permadeath
not sure what became of that though, it would've been much more interesting
OK GUYS
I PUT UP DOWN UP DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT IN THE EXTRAS MENU OF THE OG HOLLOW KNIGHT
NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENED.
yw
thank u for ur service
it doesn't unlock Sonic?
everythin getting called a cheat code now even if it makes the game harder
does mario tho
nope! having gotten 112% though, when you do that instead, it lets you play as luigi
cheats in older games did that too!
iddqd in Heretic kills you, idkfa strips you from your weapons
it punishes you for reusing Doom cheat codes
quicken turns you into a chicken too, in which you can't do anything but bite
is there a cheat code that bricks your computer
Yeah
del system32
in magika 1 theres a spell that crashes to desktop
tbf with codes like that it doesnt make the game harder it simply kicks you in the shins for being so presumptuous
also magicka is that um
multiplayer wizard game isnt it
whew
yeah, early arrowhead game, devs of helldivers
Its why both games have DDR
https://expedition33.francebillet.com/artist/clairobscurexpedition33apaintedsymphony/ concert starting in France
interesting, OG Hollow Knight wasn't played that much before Silksong
I thought it had more daily players
but it's a singleplayer game you leave alone after you've done it, so that makes sense
it was also much less popular on release than even 6 months ago
also, heh, I predicted a 600k peak for Silksong, I'm not too far off
That's peak player count
I know the graph is based on daily peak player count (or hourly if you zoom in enough), but still
That's what I was thinking too, the player count for Hollow Knight skyrocketed too, it wasn't even this high back when it came out and was the hot topic
silksong hype became a massive advertisement for hollow knight i guess
and for itself
iirc that pattern is pretty typical of sequels in general, indie or not
simply reminding people the first game exists and that it's well-regarded is enough to sway a lot of undecided buyers, or people who had it in the big pile of maybe-someday games but never prioritized before, etc
eyes his hollow knight install, which he just reinstalled yesterday and started a new game since he never originally finished it

admittedly it has made me want to go back too lol
i never even got super far in hollow knight before
even though i tried a couple times, i had it on both my switch and my steam
though i have a lot more patience now
go for it liv! it's a lot of fun, though the learning process can be tricky
I'm like, 30% in i think? i'll get back to it at some point
ya ofc
i'll have it on my list
but gotta focus on getting thru the games im playing rn haha
should have a checklist or something
fair enough, I flit from game to game, so I only have a vague list of just "things i'm interested in" and pick depending on what i'm looking for when i get to sit down
steam shelfs are so useful for that
I currently have 3 main shelves,
- Pick Up and Play ( for easy to jump in, quick to understand gameplay)
- Long Form Gaming ( For when I have more time and feel like something with more to learn)
- Multiplayer, (For friends or MMO-style games)
im okay jumping up on multiplayer games at any point usually
though aside from mmorpgs
bc then i'll spend hundreds of hours directly in them doing solo stuff hahah
haha yeahh, for MMO style games, there's a lot of singleplayer content
otherwise im once again jrpg obsessed which means dedicating myself to these insanely long games one at a time
yaa
I put like, warframe, PoE, and Battlefield in the MMO category
there was a timeline in which I gave Expedition 33 a chance before Silksong consumed reality, but it is not this timeline
satisfies the grinding part of my brain, which is a pretty big aspect for me in games
i did like being able to come on ffxiv and just do a bunch of hitting rocks
n crafting
bahaha
Hornet: "I am innevitable".
Ah yeah, i get that liv
i wanna see whatr that's about too but not really play it
looks vv pretty
clair obscur i mean ^
yaa
something nice about zoning out while repeating tasks to the tune of "numbers go up"
I could almost see her saying this unironically in the game. Since she has the power of speech (unlike last game), she has a pretty well-defined personality, including about this level of (consistently justified) confidence.
oh that's cool
Game Awards this year is gonna be crazy
When do those start?
Game Awards is beginning of December usually
i mostly just watch it for the announcements i don't really care about the awards themselves
though this year im really gunning for Silksong
insert that meme someone posted here, where its like "Hornet was badass in HK but is an idiot who jumps into spikes in SS"
The only thing I know that character says is ''Wren!'' from watching someone stream the beginning of Silksong the other day, but other than that I still somehow don't know anything about Hollow Knight at all
HK had a very slow launch because it released as like, 3 AAA games released at the same time and Team Cherry wasn't a well known dev.
The biggest day it had before SS release day was revealed was like, a big sale it had.
24th of February, 2017 what games came out around then
So lots of people played it over the year but it was never all in the same day
Breath of the Wild was March 3rd of that year so i suppose that could have overshadowed it
it's about a pillbug but if he was from dark souls
Oh right, Nier automata on the 23rd
Like imagine being sandwitched between Nier Automata and Zelda BOTW
What a cursed release date
Hollow Knight was the game that was pressured by major releases
but now its successor is the one doing the pressuring
Still haven't finished, game is fucking hard, but I still stand that E33 should get GOTY
It was just too good
it is partly a sequel thing tbf, Automata and BotW were also established names
And don't get me wrong, Silksong is exceptional
E33 is a major contendor yeah
I keep thinking I’m almost done with Silksong and then it has a whole other silk it was hiding from me
i wouldve figured that automata is what made nier and drakengard really known
replicant came after nier automata, right?
Replicant/gestalt are the same game and released on Xbox 360
ohh
I still find it funny Charlie Cox was suddenly getting a bunch of congratulations on his incredible performance that he didn't know wtf people were talking about because he had completely forgotten that he even worked on E33
all i know about Neir is that it has hot robots i think
There was a replicant remake recently
Replicant must've done fine enough but it certainly wasn't the mainstream success that Automata was
oh right Automata also had the Platinum name going for it
as far as i can tell, the previous ones have had a million on some releases but automata had several million
And the first one was a cult classic
Not a big game in the grand scheme of things but had a lot of diehard fans
Silksong is kinda like that too it's been a much bigger mainstream success than Hollow Knight, I'm guessing the fact that so many people had been anticipating the game for so long and all the memes surrounding that made way more people aware of it than there were before through seeing the name show up on their feeds
I’m not sure if it’s “more successful” overall. Silksong obviously had a far bigger launch, but HK’s success was literally genre-changing.
Everyone in the thread played HK a lot and there was some serious hurdle for veryone, if you don't have the HK experience this is gonna be one learning curve.
It still weirds me out because I always thought Hollow Knight was as successful but I guess it only was to anyone aware of the genre and indie games but Silksong seems to have been reaching way further than that already
it's so hard lmao
the narrative also assumes you’re familiar with the first HK (this isn’t obvious until later than where Gen and Cap are)
I would be surprised if silksong goes over 15 million copies just in the launch week, it'll probably do though, in a year or so.
it’s also really hard for most of us to judge how popular a thing is outside our usual circles
I’m pretty sure everyone I personally know who’s playing Silksong has already played HK
for contrast, say, Uma Musume; think of how many anecdotes there are of someone unexpected trying that game
long before playing HK, i knew of the game, sorta like as a staple in the indie scene
HK is basically the same as Binding of Isaac as in it's a game in a nichè genere that made the genre suddenly explode.
It's where it gets its popularity
for Nier: Automata, i knew of that game but didnt know anything about the franchise/series, and assumed that it was its own single, stand-alone game that wasnt connected to anything larger
took a while for me to learn otherwise
Like, you can tell when it happens, because games before it in the genre were copying castelvania and metroid.
Games after HK in the genre are copying HK.
yeah that's kjind of what i thought
Same happend in BoI
and i never heard mention of the previous games even when it was popular haha
bol?
OH
Binding of Isaac
afaik castlevania and metroid didn't break 10 mil either for any individual release, ya?
so hollow knight is wild for going to 15m
not sure if either even broke 4m but im lazy to check
I mean, gaming was smaller back then
come to think of it I’ve never looked up sales for those games
apparently Metroid Dread was >3 mil?
Came out only on one platform at a much higher price point so it makes sense
ah v likely metroid dread is at 5m now
I wonder how well Ender Magnolia made, let's check if they have copies sold
nice
I hope it sells more, I really want them to make a 3rd one
and that’s probably the most “normal” figure so far
bc metroid prime had a remaster on switch so it's not the only metroid game on switch
but surely most of those sales are dread
Being behind compared to Ix and a few other players in the thread, when I booted it up I wondered if Silksong was gonna be smaller than HK
Now I keep wondering if I'll ever stop finding new areas in this goddamn game.
ig that proves the years of development wasnt lazing around
years of development spent trying to beat the game
The others are reaching endings so there has to be a bottom somewhere

i like how Hornet talks
that delicate balance of posh ojou-sama and no-nonsense warrior
it’s interesting how it retroactively means HK 1 wasn’t just doing the silent protagonist thing, that guy was actually mute
yeah
jury’s still out on Gordon Freeman
Yeah, I think it works well since he was supposed to be "hollow"
too busy thinking to talk i suppose
So giving him a definite personality would have worked against that
right, with full lore awareness it makes perfect sense
you just don’t know that’s in-universe weird when you’re first playing
It's interesting because it's pretty clear that ||Hornet is also part void in this one, among weaver and pale king, I'm glad they solved that mistery|| SS spoilers
the urge to click
Well she hints at it a few times, and also when you ||break her cocoon after she dies to get your money back, inside there is a shade like HK's||
ah
Literally noticed that hour 1
prices straight up will never compare to 15 years ago
a $9 game is a better and better deal every year
if wages increased to match inflation then it wouldn’t be noticeable
Yeah, why not match game prices to wages instead of to inflation?
aah yeah true
I used this version for modding all the time back in the day, before special edition was essential. And I didn't get the auto upgrade to special edition because I bought this just after special edition came out, and I actually thought it was the special edition when I bought it but it wasn't.
My pc at the time would have struggled too much with special edition anyway, it had a hard enough time on base skyrim anyway.
Because then game companies would be making less money, since wages are still quite low.
No, I mean, if you want to see if prices remained fair, why compare to inflation instead of comparing to wage growth?
Or total disposable income?
i was randomly watching someone on youtube playing Ixion. And its giving me a massive urge to play the old Classic Startopia from the early 2000s
Startopia was fun, but too janky to replay
yeah, the old DirectX version makes it basicly impossible from what ive heard
it was soo fun multiplayer to
time to build a windows 2000 VM and play on that
Even the steam version
It's not that it doesn't run, it's that it looks and feels bad to play
the soundtrack of Ixion is so cool, though the game itself looks not my cup of tea
the whole management style game on the inside of a ring has just got me thinking
id probably play ixion but apparently it doesn't have a sandbox mode and from what ive seen of the gameplay your basicly pushed to move on by game elements
ah yeah, fair enough
hmm there are apparently edits to the save file you can make to mitigate some of those elements but still a proper sandbox mode would have been nice
yeah for sure
Doing some analysis, and taking 1995's 60 dollar price point as an anchor, compared with 70 dollar games today. Consumer Price Index indicates games are ~35% cheaper today than back then, or 39% cheaper in terms of median disposable income, and 60% cheaper in terms of hours worked. That means games today are cheaper by every metric
That is actually very interesting
I guess it makes sense if you were to compare it to other things that have gone up in price to, especially the basic stuff like food and groceries.
So the actual factors that made it so games are so resistant to price increases are competition and the fact that people have less time to buy and play more games. Also, everyone's playing different games, so if you want to be social about it and have a discussion, you will need to play more games than before
i was wrong about silksong, the fun didnt end with people coping about it releasing eventually, now the fun is watching people cope on twitter about the game being too hard
dArK sOuLs Of MeTrOiDvAnIA
its worse than that mfs are complaining about basic platforming
"I know what a 45 degree angle is" has been living rent free in my head for days
unironically the whole post-Hollow Knight era of metroidvanias have incorporated so many of Dark Souls' good ideas that this isn't even wrong, it's just too unspecific
we're at the point where HK and Silksong themselves are oddities for not using estus flasks

if its THAT bad a lot of them allow you to fully be stacked with them
(there's also an early sidegrade which at least for many of us makes the pogos easier)
idk i prefer silksong so far quite a lot to hollow knight
Silksong is great but if it's your first metroidvania you might be kind of fucked.
While HK is a great first metroidvania
The difficulty curve is much less gentle
And to be fair ,judging by the patchnotes, they are doing some minor tweaks
So they agree that a few things are a bit overtuned
holy fuck thats a hard carry if ive ever seen one
yeah, but minor, so it being harsher overall is probably still intended
granted I think even HK is a bit much for a first MV, there's much gentler ones like Ori and Metroid Dread (also with way more straightforward stories
)
honestly i feel like it was a good decision,it just feels more rewarding and working through an area feels like working through an area instead of "oh cool 2 enemies and im done with it"
fits the setting/story too of a bug going to defeat a much greater evil
I mean I like it, except when I'm fighting 3 flying enemies throwing shit at me, I do hate it in that specific moment but I go back to liking it right after
only part i didnt like temporarily was (act 2 spoilers) ||heart of the clock cuz i kept pogoing into the gear by accident instead of off of them with one of the heavier crests|| but after getting used to it its really fun
https://wz2100.net/news/version-4-6-0/
new Warzone 2100 is out 🙂
With over 750 commits since the last release, it’s time for Warzone 2100 v4.6!
This release includes completely revamped options menus, many additional Tweak Options for the Original Campaign (Insane Spawns, Infinite Time, Fast EXP Gain, Tower Wars, and more!), Spectator Host mode, Blind Lobbies / Games, improved graphics initialization, impro...
Silksong is getting a difficulty balance patch
lol, of course that's the detail they highlight
this is a great example of why posting primary sources is usually much better: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1030300/discussions/0/595159519774039622/
(we already discussed it in the thread)
technically the "among others" in that tweet is incorrect, these patch notes only name those two and don't use any language implying more
I guess this didn’t send
You should probably just not post news you see on twitter
I sent both pictures but I guess only the one sent
Yeah no
It's not better with the second picture
You keep posting pictures of tweets instead of having conversations
when there's that much text, a link to the source is much easier for people to consume than a screenshot (especially when the screenshot necessarily has to cut context)
usually the ideal way to post a thing like this is link to source and then in text mention what you think are the highlights / discussion topics (which is what someone did in the HK thread earlier)
I was going to talk about it. As I know the game is currently a little hard from the streams I’ve been watching.
But I’ll send a link to the actual post next time.
and highlight it as well.
The important thing to keep in mind is that we want Manechat to be a place to talk instead of a news feed
I know Manechat is conversation based. But I do like showing things that others may have missed or would like to see.
But I’ll keep it mind I like having conversions as well.
this example is particularly odd because it's in that weird space where anyone actually playing the game would've obviously seen the full version in the dedicated thread already, so pulling out just this one detail from the patch notes (which isn't even the interesting one to me) and posting it publicly seems like it's pretty consciously engineered to drive clicks from non-players who get curious about a "Silksong is too hard" narrative forming
(the patch notes most interesting to me were "fixed Snitch Pick" (I was wondering why I couldn't get that to work), "removed float override input" (we were talking about this the other day), and "Increase in rosary rewards for courier deliveries" (everyone agrees these are pointless atm lol))
ahh from my side as a silksong non-player is i have no idea what the tweet is talking about haha
indeed, I don't think any of the patch notes are meaningful to a non-player
But for the future I’ll read the full story and pick out stuff that will be interesting.
none of this radically changes the nature of the game or who would enjoy playing it
to be clear that last part was more a jab at the "news" outlet posting the tweet than at you
Oh right.
especially since part of it was technically incorrect
How are you finding the game ixrec? Does it have more depth than the first game
overall it's just as great, there's a lot of small things that people might like more or less than HK 1 but mostly subjective
I'm not sure about "depth" specifically, especially since I've never been the type to experiment much with build configuration, but I think most people looking for a bazillion different builds will be satisfied with the the whole "crest" system (in addition to the "tools" that replace HK 1's charms)
there are a lot of ways to build into different playstyles
my one complaint about the system is that one category of tools has way less options that feel significant to me
which is sorta nice considering it's the slot type that has the compass, but also there's not a lot there that catches my eye, with how many slots you're given at times
I do love a challenge in games. I’ll probably give it a go one day i wonder how long it will take for someone to do a no damage run
I get what you mean, but I think that falls well into "build customization is partly about personal preference so every player will see stuff they don't care about"
as far as depth in general, it took me 64 hours to hit 100%
it really just kept going
oh that's not what I'm used to "depth" meaning
There is a trophy/achievement for doing that in less than 30 hours
i know, i've been wanting to try for that or a permadeath run already, but last i checked no one knows for certain what actually contributes to 100% and what would be an optimal route
so instead i'm just doing bestiary cleanup
yeah I am not doing the speedrun achievements lol
getting to some kind of "100%" in a game is usually the point where I've had my fill of it and it's time to move on
(I did do the speedrun achievement for Sword of the Sea, but that's a far smaller game with basically no "routing" to worry about, so exception proving rule)
the first game was short enough that i went back almost immediately for 100% speedrun/steel soul, got even p5 done after less than a month
this though, this might be a grind
Have fun
going through them,
- compass is amazing and mandatory most of the time unless you know the area very well
- shard pendant is very nice to have to stay topped up on shards between bosses
- magnetite brooch feels a little pointless when the areas that are best for farming are already on solid ground, and otherwise i run past enemies a lot of the time
- weighted belt is just pretty damn solid, not much more to say
- barbed bracelet is terrifying. the game is too fast paced for me to feel comfortable with this even on a non steel soul save
- purse is probably nice, but i typically didn't keep a massive excess of rosaries on me unless im going to a shop. the steel soul variant sounds pretty decent though
- magnetite dice, haven't tried but it sounds pretty good compared to the other options, if you're just grinding out a boss
- scuttlebrace is a bit hard to get used to but is one of the most notable of these, though some bosses are so fast that you'd probably be better off jumping. depends on the fight
- grip is just a wall cling, there's like maybe one platforming section i would've liked it, but it's not really an issue when you can already dashclimb instead of jumping off, possibly into enemies
- spider strings i have no idea lol
- anklets i need to give a shot at some point, though the silk cost put me off trying it
- thief's mark is only to be equipped when farming. remember to take it off or suffer the consequences.
case in point: I've had magnetite brooch on the whole game, never saw a point in weighted belt, haven't tried scuttlebrace since dodge is fast enough already
i just feel like there could be more options in general, not that they're particularly bad
"more options" you say after listing over a dozen
scuttlebrace really depends on the attack, also it lowers your hitbox it feels like
that level of detail definitely belongs in the thread though

thank you adam....
