Ok so, it's very much not a joke and written in the style I would expect for the game universe.
Lynx is your employer in Shipbreaker...and well, lets just say they own the contractual rights to your DNA and existence.
Shipbreaker is very much anti-corporate and pro workers rights
The whole storyline of the game is about the cutters forming a union and Lynx trying to stop you
Ahhhh, so every government on Earth if it was a singular corporate entity, gotcha. :P
Great game. Super chill and absolutely worth playing if you can pick it up cheap on a Steam sale or such.
Note: You can change the main things (like the shift timer, O2/fuel) for an easier/harder experience.

That's what we thought in, like, 2007. Give it time...

wow nice, on the first time I finish this track
Midnight Club 2 is a good deal harder because there's so much traffic, even though it's deterministic, there's a lot of potential BS interactions to memorize
it looks pretty good for a 22 year old game too, being at night probably helps 😛
I have remade my Adventure Ponies TAS
It is 21 seconds faster than the previous version

Allow me to confess that I find you quite tangible for a phantasmagorical being.
I must say, this is really quite strange. You are the first living being I have ever met in this place. Nevertheless, I will introduce myself. I am the Judge.

A wonderfully strange RPG that originally was (and still is) a free PC game that was released eons ago. that was also one of tobyfox's inspirations
toby fox's also in the actual soundtrack now
I've heard that the soundtrack is markedly different from the original because they couldn't get the rights/permission from the original composer. But they've tried to make it a fitting soundtrack that stands on its own
I'm not super familiar with the original
it's a bit like the Duke Nukem 1/2 remasters, they couldn't get the rights from Bobby Prince so they made a new OST
In any case, the original free version isn't going anywhere
It's more or less a dwarf fortress situation. Can still get it for free, but the paid version has the extra goodies and stuff
🎉
yeah that sums up Joke's End's BGM. https://youtu.be/uWbwXR0Gm8I

this looks... weird
the gold is extra extra shiny tho
oh dear, that doesn't quite look right
Bandai Namco Europe briefly had a Tales of Series news video set to premiere on Aug 18 before it was taken down.
It was announced earlier in the year that the announcement of the next Tales remaster was coming this summer and fans have speculated which game will be next for one. If the thumbnail for this video is a hint, it will be Tales of Xillia (and probably Xillia 2, can't imagine they'd only remaster one of the only Tales games to have a 2).
i feel like i thought it must be either xillia or graces before
i honestly cant remember
either one would be good
for the most part i had my ps3 setup for the tales of games
Graces got a remaster
well obviously it's xillia here hahha
ohh
yeah now i see it
that's why i remembered hearing somrthing about graces
Symphonia, Vesperia, and Graces are the 3D Tales games with remasters. Dunno if there's interest in the older 2D Tales games getting remasters (I've never played them and Symphonia is where the series got big). The Xillias are the only 3D ones not available on any current platforms and Zestiria and Berseria are too new so it makes the Xillias most likely.
ya they got all the other potential ones already
well
tales of the abyss
was early only on the 3ds past the ps2 which is pretty old now
Yeah Vesperia with the only canon queer character in Tales
a lot of people got that
vibe with sorey and mikleo ive heard haha but ive never played zest
very funny btw they named vesperia's protag after lowenthal bc they liked him so much and then they had to call him to tell him that he cant be in it bc he was the voice of abyss', the previous game, protag
Yeah Sorey and Mikleo have these BL-bait moments, and in Berseria Velvet gives off major bi energy, but Rita's the only one with an actual conversation about liking girls (and the hilarious other one where everyone in the party but Karol and Estelle figure it out)
uThermal's big SC2 2v2 tourney is on today: https://www.twitch.tv/uthermalsc2
my dad just asked me if i knew of any games he might like that are sim themed
the thing is he doesn't like ones with a cartoony theme to it
So he wants something like The Sims, or just general simulation games?
So like, Cities: Skylines?
something he could play on his phone im guessing
but i don't know of any sim games
don't ask me why but i thought of HOI4 since he's into guns, war, action, etc.
There's openttd if he liked chain of supply
And openrct2 and Rollercoaster tycoon classic
Both on the phone but the former needs RCT2 files
factorio?
Mindustry is on Android, you can find it on F-Droid
Mindustry is basically "open source Factorio" at this point, it's pretty good
Mindustry is free on android, unlike ios
My friend had to pay for his while i didn't lol
there's literally no way this comes out after I bought the original Dawn of War + the expansions during a Warhammer sale on GOG a couple months ago
godammit
oh man that looks pretty clean too
ah yea i understand this totes.
the stones Mason, what do they mean?
It's a stone, luigi
Adriaan de Jongh represent 🙂
(the developer of the first game Hidden Folks is now using Godot, they released Rift Raff recently)
i haven't been using my ps3 much lately so im thinking that whenever the ps3 store closes (and i get all the trophies in the games i own lol) i'll shift to pc gaming full on
PS3's are pretty great if modded, and super easy to mod
@bronze abyss I never had a more miserable bossfight
took us 90 attempts
there was a giant giga laser at the end that killed us 80/90 attempts
what boss is that? it looks fun
every attack killed us in two hits, with max gear and buffs
- like 4 different master-ninja-gear type dodges
its the final boss of Fargos Mutand Mod
its meant to play with calamity
just a full 90 second dodge phase at the end
Im not trying to play touhou
yea its basically a calamity addon, its super polished
hell yeah im def adding it on the next playthrough
i only have wrath of the gods left to finish in the current one
im surprised you dont have stars aboev tbh
havent tried that yet
we'll be doing wrath of gods next playthrough
im honestly not scared
maybe i should be
stars above is really cool addss a lot of cool gameplay mechanics weapons bosses subworlds story and more
its a calamity addon as well so integrates well with it and is balanced
Dude I love Fraxy, the now-defunct build-your-own-shootemup-boss game
i understand most of these references!
Two who
I was playing some hunt showdown, managed to flush my last opponent from their hiding space with a stick of dynamite, but I missed my shot with my rifle and they blasted me with a faster gun hahah T_T
Outlaws (Lucasarts) remaster likely incoming. Steam listing has been renamed to "Classic, 1997" store.steampowered.com/app/559620/O...

Humble Games sale! Relaxing farming sim, fun creature collector, whimsical metroidvania adventure, indescribable cosmic horrors beyond human comprehension
today's vocabulary word is "eclectic"
they have plenty of grittier games so this ends up feeling extra silly haha
including doom inspired shooter prodeus

This is the greatest finals ranked of All Time
I always get Moistcritikal and Asmongold confused and I get mad every time
You can tell who's who by looking at the background and seeing whose house looks to be actively rotting away
one lives like a god damn goblin, and one is a florida man by choice
Moistcritikal is a nerd and a gremlin but he's a clean and organized gremlin (look at the setup behind him, it's a mess but it's organized neatly and carefully).
Asmongold is just a chud and a fungal spore bearer sent by Nurgle himself.
I think my room is dirty cuz i have a plate or 2 and some bottle left over, but then i remember asmongold is a real individual
I'll never not think of the clip of a cockroach crawling across asmongold's chest in the middle of a conversation
iirc he didn't even seem that spooked by it
The dude had animal carcasses literally rotting through his ceiling. It just melted the ceiling like a slow acid and then dropped a carcass into his hallway.
Holy nurgle batman
And when he took a picture of all the dishes he had on the counter, the entire kitchen was full of unwashed dishes. Top to bottom, floor to countertop.
Like, I get it if you don't have time to wash dishes. I don't always have time either, and I let it pile up sometimes. But I still wash them as soon as I have the earliest opportunity. I also get it if someone's depressed and thus doesn't want to do anything. But as far as I'm aware, Asmongold isn't depressed, or at least hasn't said he was. He just doesn't give a shit.
Hell, he apparently somehow got an actual model for a wife, and she left him because he basically demanded that she be his slave and do everything for him while he gamed.
yeahhhh I'm not too caught up on the asmongold lore
sounds like a major dickhead
He is
That's not even half of it
Barely scratching the surface
And that's not even covering his Godawful takes on society. He's an absolute moron.
And yet he's seen as one of the "alpha males" of the gaming community.
Like...guys, come on...is this really your boy?
Honestly never seen anyone refer to him as that, only jokingly at most
alpha... to who?
is that what his fanbase is called?
Probably,if its not then it should be
No, there's people who actually idolize him and call him an amazingly smart guy who speaks the truth with every word.
Our society has been infected with a large dosage of the Stupid Sauce from TADC.
stupid sauce discharge on the masses
...that sounds bad, but I'm not gonna bother changing it
Microsoft may just have ended console wars.
Helldivers 2, a Sony IP (which is also coming to Xbox) just got a long-anticipated crossover with Halo ODST, both consoles are getting it.
yeah its pretty fucking wild
SILKSONG CONFIRMED
what time does Gamescom start
thanks for reminding me to do the dishes 😛
also, I remember when Pirate Software started imploding, the comment thread on Ross' video actually saw Asmongold in a more positive light... I couldn't believe this when I saw that

I’ve always wanted to play it
IRacing arcade coming to consoles in 2026

"Silksong is real!"

🥳 Silksong is realll
SILKSONG CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SILKSOOOOONG
Aw, sounds like the Fallout stuff is just TV show season 2 stuff.
Hoping for a date in the TC announcement in a couple of days
Black ops 7 time
... what the hell is going on in the Black Ops universe
yes
Who else is waiting for the World of Warcraft cinematic?
Me 😛

For a brief moment I thought this was going to be a new F.E.A.R. game. CoD zzzzzzz
man using Master of Puppets in a trailer is cheating
If Silksong is so good why isn't there Silksong 2
fun fact.....
World of Warcraft MIDNIGHT will be the 12th version...........
very spooky.....
SUPER MARIO BROS 4 ?????
and people make fun of Kingdom Hearts 3 being the 20th game in that series...
that would be insane
this is so gross lmao
this is elden ring 2 right
Or the DLC
Lords of the fallen II
"Set 100 years after the last game"
Did anyone’s twitch stream crash?
Sekiro
ooooh
Sekiro anime
Bold thing to make into an anime, I dig it
no monkey........
"Coming exclusively to Crunchyroll"
MARIO
BATMAN
ah ye
Oh boy another Lego Batman game

i need to become batman
closest thing we'll get to a new Arkham game
It's not related but today I saw this so I will share it
I’m allergic to nuts
so whatever i'll play this
this sucks ass
I'm 90% sure I read the real comic that's an edit of
fuck you Lego Baine youre a disgrace
it's using a lot of things from the Dark Knight trilogy and The Batman it seems
and obv the 1989 theme
Do you have a favourite Batman film? Or series
Batman: the Animated Series is still, IMO, the definitive version of Batman.
based
is that the one where bruce wayne is old and they have a new guy
i don't like the voice for Batman in this game
maybe i'm just too used to Kevin Conroy
That's Batman Beyond, which is a sequel to TAS.
you're thinking of Batman Beyond
that's the sequel- yeah
what they said
this is gonna be super mario bros 4 or world of warcraft midnight
I actually really enjoyed Beyond, I thought they did a great job with it.
LONG AWAITED SEQUEL
oh, my impression was most people who watch the DCAU rank Beyond highly
Warhammer?
im pretty wary of the Batman mantle being passed on to another person, but ive heard Beyond is good so i'll get around to it eventually
i need to finish TAS first though
it was a high risk premise, but they do the character work to make it a good thing
btw how long is this show cause I have a run to do after it..
Old Bruce is often the more interesting of the two
LIke 2 hours if I remember right.
Dawn of war IV
Bold
2 hours fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuk
RTS in 2025, hope it does great
no way they save world of warcraft for the end
Final fantasy in monster hunter
Oh we are getting another one, I wonder if we are getting a new trial in FFXIV
lol Omega
YOSHI ?
meanwhile, MH Wilds has lost 95% of its sales in the last 30 days
Because they are still not fixing the performance issues
No, the sales too
how?
that's a very generous refund policy
it can't have 95% refound rate
Not a refund rate, but the rate of sales was announced in a recent...stockholder meeting or whatever?
I assume you mean sales today are lower than they were 30 days ago?
ANd the amount of sales of the game has absolutely CRATERED
How, you ask, this is why
Oh, the rate of sales, IDK if I would say it's that newsworthy, I would say a lot of games do drop hard after the launch week in sales.
dude why does twitch make my phone so hot
I mean it's bad but it's still sold well in its first week, probably have some time to right the ship
95% refound rate would have been "close the studious right now" type of catastrophe
Yeah, but MH World has maintained sales since its release for a while. The rate obviously went down since that launch, but that was 2018
Meanwhile, wilds rate of sales has just taken an absolute nosedive and it's from this past february
I go to bed and wake up and suddenly Silksong is announced apparently
silkpost
CONTROL 2
The white thing with chains? It's currently in the game already, called an Arkveld
If you say "this isnt a game" in your video game trailer Im downvoting it
oh nvm
Yeah, it's coming to FFXIV is why I'm asking
Ty for the info
Now I know how to call it
oh yeah
why are they putting an ad for gamescom in the gamescom stream
TC is having an annoucement going live in a couple of days, for now they just said "it exists" and probably won't get anything else at Gamescom
mhwilds was performing extremely poorly in sales
and i imagine a big reason was because they stated before a big market for monster hunter now was pc and it had a pretty terrible launch there
Onimusha
this trailer is very loud and obnoxious
is this an established ip or new ?
Very well established
ah
Even though it's been a while since something came out
AI vtubers game......
Why are anime girls trying to sell me factorio again?

This is literally just satisfactory but with waifus right?
oh it is like factorio
huh
Endfield
So, Paradox is doing a Civ game?
of all the 300k people watching this I bet im the only one with the stream muted listening to the norwegian dub of One Small Thing
oh EU
EUV
Ok I was initially mad at all the jargon, but once the gameplay started I kind of changed my mind
i think the first game was on Switch
that looked kind of cool
Fallout TV
Oooh, Ella and Aron!
no Todd 😔
Hey guys its us the cast of Fallout here to talk about how excited we are for Hollow Knight and World of Warcraft
im so worried about how they're gonna do New Vegas
in the show?
I'm really looking forward to it, curious to see what they do
Blame it on todd
considering how well the first season handled most things I'm not worried personally
wtf Ella's british ????

Yeah, her accent game is amazing.
Masque in a game/show when
The Ghoul is my fave
But will the Fridge be there
I was dabbling with game streaming for a while but ultimately went back to not doing that
ok im going full screen
Oooh, ||House||
Man, they have a lot of founding for the 2nd season seems like
Indiana Jones DLC !
Indiana Jones and the outstanding triangle
heard a lot of good things about this game
anyone played it
I have
ive played a bit, it's really fun
the combat is satisfying and so is solving the puzzles
why only a bit then?
because i'm easily distracted
interesting
oh cool !
Yup
no it's only the regular nintendo switch
No I saw the big 2
it was dust on your screen
King K Rool is coming to Call of Duty
I think this is the mobile tank game coming to consoles
remember the tank in Last Crusade
World of Tanks 2.0
John Carpenter is a big Sonic fan

sounds like he did the music for the game
Oooh a series?
i just scrolled through every single one of my stickers looking for the mindblown boar
Death by Scrolling
eeeeeeh. I won't touch the new game by the people who own Zaum
Yeah, big split between the game creators and the new owners.
After all the drama I don't trust it, but like, I mean, hard not to at least pay attention give how exceptional Disco Elysium is
I am amused at how chat is still just yelling for midnight
I'll look at reviews and decide if I want to give them a shot
tl;dr the creatives brought in an investor to handle the money... but he sold his control off to someone else who fired the creatives, and they accuse the new investors of fraud.
oh a Papers Please like
I was about to make a joke "well, nice they are making a game like that so I can explore something that has no basis in reality" but the dude went and ruined my joke
Oh look, it's GTA: The Anime.
I am waiting for this, this be game number 27 that convinced me trying to play a rhytm game so I can remember I am shit at them
JRPG or Gacha?
Seems JRPG to me
Delta force
(F2P game)
Also P2W
huh, that happens a lot? the only rhythm game I remember seriously trying was Hi-Fi Rush
Expedition 33

so clair obscure is definitely working goty right
I try one every few years, I regret it every time
Well I didn't regret Hi Fi rush but it's more of a hybrid
hon hon bonjour!
I wonder if this game would get DLC
yeah, pure rhythm would fall into "too simple" for me, like pure shmups and "just" platformers and most mobile-first genres
There is some stuff they could expand on the story but not much
but this sounds more like my experience with (the gameplay side of) RPGs
this is very pretty
You are gonna hear it again at the end of the year
In the Game Awards medley
Guaranteed
Donkey kong will
TECMO BOWL ?
oh shit fr ?
ye reggie is on it
there's probably a timeline out there where I played Re:Fantazio, but at this point it's presumably gonna be Expedition 33 next time that mood hits me
Ninja Gaiden 4
As someone that love both games, I agree on that decision
It also helps that Expedition 33 is 1/3rd the lenght
And I know you have a job
i feel like this looks like 5 other games we've seen today
Yup.
I think it looks awesome personally
so do most games at these things
I can't even remember the last time I actually watched one of these streams instead of just looking up a list afterward
case in point
yeah but it's fun for me to watch along with you guys
Silent hill time
these days I'm pretty sure I have more fun trying to make sense of the reactions here without the actual stream
my biggest issue is i just wish traditional turn-based rpgs had more strategy to them than they normally do
😖
I feel like I probably agree but that is a topic for someone who actually clicks with traditional RPGs
Okay, that at least has my interest in Silent Hill f.
what is the consensus on the last really good SH game ? was it 4 ?
sigh and another Soulslike
another reason I don't watch these is that game marketing in general I don't watch; the things which accurately predict whether I'll enjoy a game are typically not in teasers, e.g. I was sold on SHf the moment they announced its existence and writer
people did really like sh2's remake if that counts, but then yeah i think it was 4 and most after were mixed
I knew it
1, 2 and 3 are the generally beloved ones (including 2's remake), after that everything is mixed; you occasionally get defenders for 4 or SM or whatever, but even then I've never seen anyone argue they're on the same level as 1-3
yeah 4 is liked but on a lesser scale
Signalis is the best Silent Hill anyway
I thought that was Geoff
right i need to play this
someday
Cronos: the New Dawn
Survival horror by Bloober (people who did SH2 remake)
bloober has been on a weird one
I probably should replay it, but since it's living rent-free in my brain that feels a little unnecessary
Jeoff can't pronunce horror to save his life and it's really funny
Bloober can make all the good games they want, i'll always remember them as the people who made the game where the baby runs into the wall 20 times in a row
before still wakes the deep they were kind of infamous and sh2 remake singlehandedly shot their reputation all the way up
HAHA YEAH
good to know Bloober won't just be doing remakes forever like Capcom
well I liked Layers of Fear
HOLY SHIT SONIC
oh cocaine vampire sonic
Outer Worlds 2
was Outer Worlds goods ?
I've heard a range of opinions on Outer Worlds from painfully mediocre to pretty good actually
it's not my kind of game so I wasn't gonna play it anyway
ixrec made a world famous multiplayer mod for it
I wonder what the one more thing will be this evening.
Anyone got guesses?
part of the original people who made fallout or something?
and pillars of eternity was a cool crpg
(not to be confused with Outer Wilds)
i do that a lot
"No, you can't sleep with them"
didn't they even come out the same year
same, and I hate myself everytime I confuse the two
I believe they did
it's still a running joke in Wilds' community at least (I assume on both sides)
Super Mario Bros 5 (they're skipping 4)
game of the year

at this point its gonna be world of warcraft at the very end..... major L for my run
i want to try both Worlds and Wilds one day
now that subtitle could be monster hunter too
I played about half of Worlds, was fun but... I'm easily distracted.
it's easy for me to tell them apart since I've spent >500 hours in Outer Wilds (vanilla, DLC, story mods, and the randomizer mod I made) and never had any interest in Outer Worlds, but obv that's a special case
This feels gacha
fanservice in this trailer huh
embarrassing...
New Star Trek game when
Seven Deadly SIns: Origin
DID YOU GUYS HEAR THE ONE GUY CLAPPING
appreciate the announcements
i usually just look up these things after the stream bc i hate watching aha
Moonlighter 2: the Endless Vault
those are certainly words
wtf new Vampire The Masquerade ?????
Imagine Bloodborne II gets shown
that's another game i need to get to
you know you don't have to play everything right
YES I KNOW
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines 2
enlightenment comes after playing everygame ever
ooh the spooky month
But is masque in the game?
sometimes I wish I could play literally every game in at least my favorite genre
but it's probably for the best that I never run out
Oh update to Enshrouded
This reminded me of Crimson Desert though, I wonder if we'll see it here
yeah you become like Dr Manhattan when you play every game ever released
in the real sense of not running out, not the AAA open world sense that there's always a thousand glowing berry bushes on the far side of the continent you haven't harvested yet
it'd be incredible if i even had enough time to go through every thief fan mission
xbxox
Helldivers will probably get shown
Age of Empires 4

on ps5
at least I got around to trying Thief 2 once, but I bouned off it pretty hard, forced to conclude it's just too old and jank to do anything for me nowadays
new DLC "Empires of the East"
there's a lot of fanservice
Seven Deadly Sins game
yup... checks out.
The fanservice was on another game
November 4th
o
AoE 4 Anniversary Edition
It wouldn't shock me, tho
that one game
i'm not watching the stream if you couldn't tell
me neither, I'm watching Dress-Up Darling
thats me big cult of lamb guy
Expansion
christmas
it does take a lot of setup for ultimately a genre that is hyper niche, 'pure stealth' people would say over just stealth
snowey
oh you fight the demon heart in this one
I mean, I was expecting to click with it since I played a lot of Splinter Cell 1 through 4 back when those were new-ish
WOW
CotL Woolhaven - paid expansion 2026
Artiks time
wait are you saying the early Thiefs are "pure stealth" or that they're some hyper niche subgenre of stealth
"Awesomee"
this lady has a very rainbowy top
HOLLY LONGDALE!!!!!!!!!

I like the dress she picked, she could either be in Wow or in Star Trek, impossible to tell
i think its her xalatath cosplay
There are way too many As and Ts in that name
ye its got kiljaeden
pure stealth along with like splinter cell, as opposed to how other games like MGS have a ton of action and mechanics that aren't totally suited for it
now the conversation is back to lots of made up words I don't know
Never tiring of high elves eyebrows in WoW
yeah, it feels like Splinter Cell and Thief might've been the only "just stealth" franchises, which makes it weird that I played so much of one yet can't even get a foothold in the other
usually even games that I don't particularly like I can still finish
chronologically, did all the classic Thiefs come before Splinter Cell?
Speaking of splinter cell.
that might be why then
2000
I find a lot of genres have a sort of inflection point where the technology finally gets good enough that the games stop sucking and they almost immediately achieve perfection
like when Zelda became Link to the Past, or when Metroid became Super
so it would make sense if Splinter Cell was that point for stealth and I just lucked out so hard I never even saw the transition
What have you been playing lately Ixrec?
currently finishing up Voidwrought, haven't decided what to play next yet
Hope you are having fun
Cool trailer

THat's apparently th eintro cinematic for the expansion, if I heard right
it's been pretty good yeah, not a new top 10-20 but still good enough I want to 100% it before moving on
First look at Justin from fallout
in my case it's hard for me to let go of thief, i can excuse a lot of things for how much i love the atmosphere and aesthetics tied to it, but yeah i have a hrd time getting people into thief with having to find their way around massive hit-or-miss levels and archaic controls
which is also why i still love shadow of the colossus
I actually replayed SotC not that long ago, that was still a lot of fun
yeahhh i love that game
though it is easy to see why that particular set of mechanics didn't get any imitation and evolution
sotc's?
yeah
Project spectrum
Looks neat, but not sure it's my kind of game
yeah it's not good, just excused for the game being fairly easy and short
i have that gamer megamind take that it's fitting narratively/atmospherically to have it control as bad as it does bahaha
I wouldn't quite phrase it that way, as I think the SotC mechanics are a good fit for what SotC is going for and do contribute to it instead of getting in the way, but yeah I don't see much room for expanding on them to other games
Heat
nah that's just a failure of vocabulary, we've gotta split "bad" into more nuanced meanings
Ghost of Yotei!
That snow looked crazy good
control as stressful as it does, maybe? i imagine wander would be ultra stressed in his position
like how much of the appeal of survival horror is how limited and disempowered the character is, that's not "bad" controls, but rather there are good limited controls (most REs, Dead Spaces, Signalis) and bad limited controls (original RE3's dodge button literally doesn't work)
yeah like i said it does help atmopshere, emulating exactly how much wander should be struggling to hold on
which is v cool on that front
yeah you can't just give him infinite stamina from the start

Resident Evil: Requiem
the issue is more that you can't really do anything besides hold on when the colossus is shaking, it's not clear how you'd extend that to a more nuanced and deep gameplay system
but it's plenty for a single game with ~15 bosses that are more puzzle than skill test
The title is so cute in re9
Requiem
"RE" stands for Resident Evil
"9" in japanese is "kyu"
REKYU(em) = Requiem
RE engine is so good
ha that is cool
It's adorable
im excited for this, but it's one of those games i'd probably watch a playthrough of rather than play
horror is often like that
reminds me that i like to call stealth games puzzle games aha
I vascillate so much on whether I want to play horror or just watch it
also i already miss Ethan 😔
Re8 was super worth it to play, it wasn't especially scary though
though Signalis did a lot to validate the idea that I should be playing them myself
i bounce off playing horror unless i really really like the setting and just prefer watching it v often
at least the more unique and story heavy ones
except that one part where it was PT 2
the dollhouse?
It doesn't last that long
heh, strange to see iRacing going arcade... this is what caused the downfall of the Project CARS franchise
(1/2 are realistic, 3 is arcade; guess which one people disliked)
i'd rather watch a video for another slasher or haunted house kinda game
yeah 😭
i tuned out was there a cool "oh one more thing"
And you also have the chainsaws duel in the tornado at the end to make up for it
iRacing is probably the most realistic sim on the market currently, but it's also pricey to get in due to the DLC/subscription policy. And its community can be quite gatekeepy as a result, I wonder how this will turn out
One more thing!
it's funny how when I first played RE4 it was the scariest thing I'd ever put myself through, but nowadays we call that "action horror" in contrast to how much slower and more tense 1-3 were
then I played SH2 and nothing was ever the same again
Can you pet the kitty?
RE4 does have the regenerators which are pretty scary

Black Myth: Zhong Kui
first horror game i actually played myself was amnesia the dark descent which was kind of going into the deep end in terms of 'scary' but then i find most others don't really hit lol
I didn't have much trouble with them, I think I was in the zone by the time I got there so "stand still and aim" just felt like "oh yeah I've done this a thousand times"
Oh, apparently Black Myth is a franchise
Awesome
I'll have to play the first one eventually
I remember in February when my brother described MH Wilds as a GOTY
the Chinese soulslike?
I'm always like "hold your horses ponies, wait until the honeymoon period is over before judging a game"
that is a good direction to expand a series in actually
What did everyone think of this years ONL?
eh
the next one i played was alien: isolation and i have a very mixed opinion on it rather than positive
10/10, they showed Silksong
I played most of it: it's very pretty, gameplay is OK (not amazing; stealth is still too punishing like Wolfenstein II, and you can't gun your way out in Indy like you can in Wolfenstein)
but it is very pretty, again.
Xbox has a showcase tomorrow and Thursday
I mostly loved Isolation, just felt it was a little too long overall
oh the indiana jones game actually references thief
haha really ?
yeah it def stretched bit
esp the part where you're out in space and just moving on a super long bridge suuuper slowly
I mean barely showed it, but I need to be reassured it's actually coming out within the year every month or so, so it counts.
well that's a very short part so it doesn't enter into the one sentence review
yeah haha the "it's a long way down" quote is a thief thing that comes up occasionally
im a beleiver ✅
but A:I still might be the best stealth horror experience I've had on the gameplay side of things, without relying on writing and setpieces and other scripted content
RE2 remake Mr X is probably the only other contender in that niche
ahh i actually have a lot of issues with its gameplay mostly
I don't usually enjoy stealth horror much TBH, I am too weak
I like horror well enough but I have to be able to fight back to cope with the stress
I like stealth, it's the horror part
which comes more from learning that the alien can't hear you walk and also can't look over boxes or desks, where hiding under them or in lockers actually makes them slowly zero in on you
which makes them less optimal than just circling around a box crouched
oh no you learned the optimal strats
yeah that kind of imploded it haha
I am not a big horror game person, but I may push myself to try A:I eventually
I can't wait for the new Lego Batman game
basically every horror game implodes when you do that, on some level you have to have the discipline to not do that to enjoy a horror game
(except as a speedrun I guess)
interesting
but yeah, the AI in A:I is more "fake" than people think
it involves lots of smoke and mirrors, even if well-made
it's like the guards in Batman Arkham games, they have barks that make them talk to each other but they don't actually coordinate actions
me too it looks cool
haha im glad i can still find enjoyment in abusing tdd's slippery mode then at least
I love that it seems to be Batman Arkham styled gameplay
yeah, it's surprising just how much of game design is realizing where you actually need detail and where it's a better use of your time to trick the player into thinking the detail exists
yeah the optimization is probably very smart for the game
but yes controlled uncertainty is essential to a horror experience, especially in a video game where it's extremely easy for the player to throw themselves toward either too much certainty or too much uncertainty
I know I could do a bunch of death looping to trial-and-error the mechanics of the spooky monster and learn exactly where the kill planes are and whatnot, but if I let myself slip into that mindset then I'm not actually playing the game any more, not the way it's supposed to be played at least
ah and horror games should probably veer on the easy side to prevent thatfrom happening
i did play on hard which might've just got me acquainted to all the scripted alien encounters
my best moments in A:I were when I took a risk, heard or saw the xenomorph, and made a snap judgement about where to hide or which gadget to throw at it, and I genuinely had no idea whether or not it would work
yeah never play horror games on hard unless you're already doing speed/challenge runs
^ im also a horribly stingy player who likes to hoard tools and never use them since i like to see how far i can push it
I have a particularly vivid memory of one time the xeno had me dead to rights in a straight hallway, I threw a grenade, and when it went off I fell over and blacked out... then was genuinely shocked to discover I was alive and it had fled into the vents
oh yeahh they do throw you around if they get close while running off don't they?
yep, the fact that I couldn't immediately tell if it was a death animation or a standing back up animation really boosted the immersion of the whole sequence
of course it is very easy to understand why someone who approached the game differently would not have had those organic, emergent experiences
or why someone else would absolutely hate having them
but for me it's still a cool thing that only A:I has ever pulled off, despite so many other games promising they'll do it
I mentioned RE2 remake Mr X which is also great but that's more like planning a route to outsmart the guy, not as much panic and improvised defense and visceral uncertainty
shoot his hat off it makes him slow down to pick it up!
I never tried it when I was playing the game and now that I'm done everyone mentions it
actually makes him angrier bahahha
it would be really cool to find that out on one's own
seeing the whimsy in the game in real time
i missed the topic change and thought you guys were still talking about Alien and was confused because i didn't remember the xenomorph having a hat
yep, there are a lot of games that pull off great vibes with strategic placement of "missable scripted content" like that
segues that into probably how much more important the first experience is over every other time
at least for these genres
yeahh
shockingly I've never been the type for "lifestyle games"
it would be very cute if it did have one
ohh
lifestyle games?
games you're meant to never stop playing; overlaps heavily with multiplayer-focused and live service and gacha and other stuff
maybe animal crossing?
what I've never been sure about is whether it's okay to call things like Factorio and Rimworld lifestyle games, although some of you definitely play them that much
i wonder if that calls for having a separate categoryfor "infinite growth games" to be right next to the genre
it's definitely one of the reasons why "genre" can't be a singular thing
heck, "horror" is already a really weird sort of genre that usually has to overlap heavily with something else
stealth ironically being used more if it's a mechanic that exists than if it's the whole thing the game is designed around
at some point a genre is just a cluster of loosely associated tropes
yeah, I think at some point the industry decided stealth just works better as a supplementary mechanic than a primary mechanical focus, which I'm... okay with
hahahah ive been sated for it on indie games at least
oh, which ones?
intravenous is a big one
it's like flipping off the Cyberdemon in Brutal Doom
it makes him angrier, but he goes through an animation when you do it, which buys you some time...
and it's fun to do anyway
basically top-down splinter cell or another hotline miami depending on how you wanna playit
u gotta do it or the joy of it
I've heard the term "forever game"
unrelated, but Outlaws remaster was announced: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3366780/Outlaws__Handful_of_Missions_Remaster/

$29.99
Nov 20, 2025
you can preorder it now, like the Dark Forces remaster back then. It's the same engine and remastered by the same team, so expect a similar feature set
I want to play Hollow Knight, but I don't know if it will be too hard for me
I also want to play the Dark Forces remaster
that is a risk, though the truly hard parts of HK are either optional, or far enough away from the starting area it should always be possible to put them off for later and find more upgrades
remind me what metroidvanias and perhaps soulslikes you've played?
also, fun fact: this game has a character voiced by Discord
One of the main line bosses does have an extreme difficulty curve, so it is still a risk.
Its a reason I stopped playing.
I don't even know who you're alluding too since this sort of thing is so subjective
(for me the difficulty spike was Watcher Knights but they're 100% a "you can come back later" case)
anyway, for "can you play HK" I still think prior experience is the critical question
Soulslikes ive played are Dark Souls (didn't get too far into it), Dark Souls 3( got quite a bit farther than DS1), Bloodborne (haven't gotten super far in that), Elden Ring (which I have all but one achievement on), and more that I did not get very far into, as for metroidvanias, I haven't played that many, besides Metroid Dread, and some others that I cant remember at the moment
you're probably fine then
I think most of my problems with difficulty is just not having enough perserevrance
Oh, and I've also played the Elden Ring DLC
yeah this is definitely a game that assumes you're up for practicing a hard boss to beat it on the 30th or 50th attempt
(though most bosses shouldn't be that hard, especially in the early areas)
i wanna pick Hollow Knight back up because im excited for Skong but i havent played in a while so i have no idea where to go
we could probably help with that
if you aren't up for the "intended" experience of wandering aimlessly until you find new stuff
do you have a main objective yet
well the last time i played i was wandering about the bee hive. the time before that i had beat the Hollow Knight
oh right you did get an ending
only soulslike I've played is Fallen Order and I kind of bounced off it
Oh yeah, I've played both Fallen Order and Survivor to the end of the story too
I want to replay them actually
i looove DS1 but every other FromSoft game ive tried i bounced off of
I got to the bell gargoyles in DS1, and could not get past them
-# I bounced so hard off DS1 and Sekiro I'm never touching FromSoft again
oh hey that's exactly where I got to
i hella wanna play sekiro, knowing it was initially supposed to be a tenchu game
DS1 idk
which is that mystery 3rd stealth game from 1998
dark souls 1 though is honestly like
it feels like Zelda 1 to me
really messy
I'm guessing Gen wanted you to take the passage from Deepnest to The Hive because the area past/next to Hive has an important thing, so continue as-is I guess
ok cool
i didn't even know there was an area next to the Hive, i thought i had discovered every area by now
I found DS3, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring easier than DS1 ngl
could always show us the map if you want to be sure, but yeah you should be fine just wandering
I imagine everyone's first soulslike is also their hardest
if you can play those u can probably play hollow knight
I only finished Elden Ring tho
yeah no one's worried about snepp's skill level at this point
the issue with dark souls 1 is it has a lot of jank and archaic area designs
to be clear, i bounced HARD off DS1 for like 5 years before it finally clicked for me
i had to have a friend help me through it on stream haha
were you periodically restarting it or something
My first soulslike was Bloodborne, and at the time I had no idea what I was supposed to do
but i also admit i really prefer linear games
well, I do strongly prefer linear to empty open world
looove xenoblade 1 but its open world was like a novelty sometimes haha
part of what appeals to me about metroidvanias is that perfect balance of curated, unique paths yet enough non-linearity that exploration and choice is still a real thing
I think part of the reason I was able to finish Elden Ring was because I felt like I didn't just have to keep throwing myself at the same boss, and instead I could go elsewhere and level up
or rather, is a more meaningful choice than "hold W for ten minutes"
if a game needs an autowalk button and it's not an mmo i would ask for the devs to strongly reconsider the open world bit
I've heard that take a lot about Elden Ring specifically, which mostly just makes me wonder if DS1-3 were actually as Zelda/metroidvania-like as people keep saying, because the good Zelda-likes and metroidvanias also usually let you put off the hardest bosses for later
saying this in agreement to be clear ahahah i feel like this could come across the opposite
just happens too often
no yeah I think everyone's been on the same page about gratuitous open worlds for a while now, that trend of AAA actually passed its peak some time ago
yeah i think open worlds really only serve their purpose if there's some kind of resource management or survival aspect to trekking it, which has become an issue once games just started putting it everywhere without that
or if the world itself really is the draw, like how people will play RDR2 just to vibe in it without necessarily doing anything
(that's not for me but I respect it)
yeahhh
it's very hard to imagine doing that in most of the other famous open worlds
my biggest example is about rpgs again haha but it's a huge difference in trying to make a journey from one town to the next and survive the possible incoming encounters to modern rpgs where they kept the huge overworld but dropped random encounters so people simply walk from point a to point b with no trouble
committing a horrible sin by defending random encounters but i do think theyre a necessary evil in this case, it mattered a lot with how strict on cash dragon quest was and how much of it was figuring out where places were, got diminished when that whole journey aspect was progressively diminished to where random encounters were an annoyance instead of a threat
and here I thought the meta was to walk into every optional encounter on the way so you could get enough experience to survive the mandatory fights
The character named "Doctor Death" nevertheless
haha people get quickly tired of it in these huuuuge 60+ hour long games
I'm too afraid of the game going "you're too weak, the rest of the story is locked forever"
exactly why i could never getthrough a fire emblem game until they let you revisit maps bahaha
i was so scared of softlocking myself
exactly!
I can only enjoy those with a walkthrough or a veteran player who has some instinct for what acceptably strong units look like at each part of the game
yeahhhhh
ironically i do think it's kind of fun to watch someone play it and show all the strategic stuff and whatever
especially with the insane higher difficulty options
reminds me of the "when you do all the side quests before starting the first main quest" meme
I still want to see an open world game with bhopping 😢
that would be really cool
Seeing routine release window is surreal
that movement style would improve some open world games so much
there are mods that bring Half-Life physics to GTA III/Vice City, so it is possible
Starting to feel more optimized, still extreme levels of copium and choking but its getting cleaner. I think sub 1:10 without duping or asset skipping is definitely realistic. There are some new strats that I will be implementing in future runs.
My other Half-Life Movement Speedruns:
Mario 64 Half-Life Movement 70 ...
and san andreas too
though i wonder if i like it more as skill expression in these smaller environments so im like afraid of testing it elsewhere
l4d2 gracefully being the one valve game that hasn't patched out bhopping
Ixrec — 9/3/24, 14:43
I sometimes recommend A Short Hike and The Pathless as two good indie examples of a small open world with interesting movement, thereby making the openness a huge positive even though I dislike most AAA open worlds
arguably also applies to Sly 2 though that's not indie
Sly 2/3 are pretty interesting, I didn't remember their semi-open world aspects when I was young
traversal is quite fun in those games, it must have taken a ton of time to finetune the character controller and all interactions with the environment
tbf, it also helps that half of Sly's abilities are simply "warp to glowy spot"
there are a few cases where Sly liked to cling onto the wrong rope or something (when there were multiple close by), but it's rare
most of the time, it just works™
another win for sly cooper
they also make the range on those moves pretty forgiving, so (not unlike coyote time) once you're aware of it you can have a lot of fun abusing it
I've started Sly 4 but it always crashes in RPCS3 when I load my save and try to go to the next mission
I don't know, but I've had this issue with multiple games, including MGS3 (that was shortly before Master Collection came out)
would be nice to have a sly cooper collection with all 4 and not be sony exclusive
i guess it doesn't apply to me since i have a ps3 right here but still
I should replay Half-Life 1 and 2
I've never been able to Bhop successfully in games
I've never been able to do speed tech in general (without more effort and less consistency than it would need to be fun)
(even in Nine Sols where I learned some of the speed tech for randomizer design reasons, I still stuck at the execution too much)
Same
remembering you can also bhop in thief 1 lol
where taking fall damage from hitting a wall is apparently a thing if you go fast enough?
The more recent example of a ''speed tech'' I can think of is dolphin diving in MGSV which I do all the time
Basically if you dive, aim your gun, crouch, and then dive again, the crouch animation from aiming is faster than regular crouch, so you can just infinitely keep diving without technically going out of prone mode, it works for getting through areas quickly and stealthily
I remember in Warframe you could sprint and then slide and that would make you get crazy speed too
I never managed to learn how to bunny hop
I kinda did it a little bit for Jedi Knight because it uses the Quake engine
actually Pseudoregalia might count since the moveset is so good in that game that I often found myself being genuinely unsure if I was doing intended tech or sequence breaking even on my casual playthrough (and I eventually found out it was about a 50/50 mix)
Oh yeah Pseudoregalia too
But it feels like cheating to mention that because it's kinda the intended way to move around
that sounds like how people would sprint, jump, then crouch in the air in payday 2 to either not make as much noise or not tire out, i don't remember which
I need to finish that
there's another game that does that i can't remember
oh I didn't even mean the bunny hop in PR (which is usually called something else since the details are way off any quake/source-style bunny hops)
Pseudoregalia is fun, but half the time I have no clue where to go
the game's small enough that now that there's an in-game map, "anywhere you haven't been yet" should suffice
especially if you're just searching for major keys since those are one per area
bunnyhopping itself is just the act of jumping repeatedly as you hit the ground and strafing is what made you actually go faster but they got tied together
yeah, PR has a few tricks where "just jumping repeatedly" can preserve non-standard momentum, but a totally unrelated trick needs to be used to get that momentum in the first place
That reminds me that I should play A Short Hike again someday to 100% the achievements.
ikr. I hate lego batman
still suffering through the first one. may or may not play the sequels. definitely dreading this next one.
I really wish TT Games wasn't restricted to only make games based on WB properties after the Skywalker Saga crunch scandal, but here we are.
I fucking love Lego Batman
Call me crazy, but I have a small feeling that a Lego MLP game could be possible, as WBD owns some of the rights to MLP. I don't know what or how they will be able to adapt it, but I'll gladly take it over boring superhero stuff or stuff from a 3-hour movie or stuff from a very notorious author.
I'm at least glad you like it. But for me I dislike it.
what about good superhero stuff
Lego Batman is good superhero stuff imo
While I was typing this I made the realization that since Care Bears: Unlock the Magic is partially owned by WBD (it is on Boomerang, Cartoon Network/Cartoonito, and HBO Max/Max) so we theoretically COULD get a Lego Care Bears game. However, WBD's license for Care Bears: Unlock the Magic expires in 2027, meaning that it is very highly unlikely we could get a game based off of it.
-# Dimensions 2 pls
I don't like any superhero stuff, to put it in the simplest terms possible.
I dunno...
Having a 3D Boss Rush with not the best level design, puzzles, and controls makes it a pain to get through
maybe the sequel is good? dunno if I should buy it on Xbox, PS3, or Steam though
anything exciting?
ok wow lego batman 2 is on sale on steam
Depends on what you find exciting
Silksong is confirmed to release this year, I know that's really exciting for some people
I'm probably most excited for the new Lego Batman and RE9

Oh, and the Sekiro anime
I want to be excited for Silent Hill F, but when I played the Silent Hill 2 remake I felt physically ill
It was just that off-putting
which, to be fair, is part of the idea
im excited for Lego Batman and ofc Silksong
at this stage of the game, you're going to find a lot more things to buy than money to buy them with, and you'll be expected to return to these shops many times later on
but whether and which map pins are worth it is mostly personal preference; you probably shouldn't splurge for all of them, but by endgame those prices are a drop in the bucket so you don't have to worry about buying the "wrong" thing
great way to flee enemies chasing you, heh. I can see why they got rid of it in Thief 2, but it was fun to see... the camera even rolled when you got fast enough
and yeah, you can take fall damage on walls as a result of bhopping too fast
Lucio in Overwatch can still do this, he can preserve his speed boosts from wallrunning by just hopping repeteadly on the ground. It's one of the few skill-based movement mechanics still present in a mainstream modern shooter (outside of Apex Legends, I guess)
this kind of momentum preservation is pretty common in games, Legends of Equestria has it (!)
Palworld too, I loved (ab)using that
Palworld is probably the closest to an open world game with really nice skill-based traversal, where all the fun movement mechanics are clearly unintended 😛
One thing I would advise, on top of what Ix brought up, if you could save up to buy the lumafly lanter early, it can be a good idea since it's hard to save up all that geo at the beginning and it's frustrating if you happen o have to farm because your progress is halted by not having it.
Like, no rush, but it's not a bad goal if you feel like you are solid and not dying too much
So you don't risk in losing the early cash
If you feel like you are dying a lot though, spend your money rather than saving it
haha yeah, i actually never managed to do that because i'd drop my hop as a result of the camera disorientation lol
So far, I've just bought the map, quill, and compass
Good investment
Buying one kind of custom pin is not a bad idea if you have bad memory so you can mark stuff you want to return to, but that's pretty optional
On release the custom pins weren't even a thing

PS5 price increases in the US only
Disgusting

chilling
since im in my laying back and lounging phase, would Vintage Story work well enough on controller? i see no controller support natively but as binding that controller to keyboard controls thru ds4windows or something
i dont know actually
you can load it though steam, and via big picture mode rebind a bunch of buttons to controller but outside of that im not sure
yeahhh
yeah the controlls are very keyboard heavy
its possible tho i guess
dont recommend
ahh unfortunate
i'll be fine either way at least
just would've been nice to lie down haha
or stand really, i should get one of those standing desks
in a little bit i'm going to get it ya
absolutely
there is a pony mods for it but i dont recommend it till you're familliar with the basics of the game
these are probably ahead of price increases on other products in US markets
sooner or later they’d be applied because of the tariffs
It starts tomorrow
