OpenJazz allows you to play Jazz Jackrabbit and see a lot further than usual, it completely changes the game for the better if you ask me

I wouldn't zoom out too much, but playing in 1280×720 is usually the sweet spot (the game is "designed" for 320×240 but it's really cramped)

and to think Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was prototyped on 320×240... thankfully it wasn't released like this 🙂 It has similar problems at its default 640×480, albeit less extreme, and you can play in 800×600 too

so today and yesterday i played Paradise Killer https://store.steampowered.com/app/1160220/Paradise_Killer, took me 12 hours for a playthrough. i went into it with my only knowledge being "detective game, can accuse anyone". while both true, there isnt an actual focus on using your brain to solve crime ala ace attorney; scouring the map for evidence and talking to people a lot is the actual game loop, plus some puzzles. the logical interconnections and mystery unraveling are done by main character. (story spoilers) ||it was a little bit disappointing that out of all the suspects it really is, like, two ultimately for all those crimes (depends how you slice blame), but the conspiracy angle saves it somewhat||. there are a lot more collectathon elements than i expected, mostly to sprinkle in more info on its absolutely wacky worldbuilding. wacky applied as a positive! its incredibly off the rails but holds greatly on internal logic level, and the presentation excells in what it sets to do. personally i believe the map was a touch too large for all the running around you're required to do, but it wasnt game breaking annoyance to me, and it makes sense because the detectiving is more of a flavor for exploration. (story spoilers) ||and i guess in universe its an island for thousands, u gotta pack them somewhere||

its 75% off right now for 5 euro. i think the story, presentation and worldbuilding is worth that price for sure, buut if you want to play a "detective game", you're better off with stuff like ace attorney or obra dinn

Guy that had invaded my base a couple days ago on MGSV invaded me again after I retaliated, got much deeper in this time and stole a bunch of my containers, so naturally I killed everybody I possibly could in one of his platforms he was developing (and got some of my containers back)

got caught at the end because I completely missed one of the guards on the lower levels of the building, but by the time they noticed me everybody was already downed anyways so it just means I didn't get the full stealth bonus

luckily I'm at a point in the game where I'm doing this mostly for fun and it's not super stressful, at least so long as the guy eventually gives it up and doesn't keep trying to steal my stuff
I can replay a specific mission in the game which usually has a prisoner in it with very high stats that I've been farming for a bit, and the online missions also give you points that you can exchange for as high as S++ rank volunteers for your base, they also give you resources for the missions and I can also just run around both maps for a while just extracting containers full of resources to get back whatever I lose, so it's not too big of a deal and I'm mostly retaliating for fun to see how long this goes for
...but I'd still like to not have my stuff stolen/my staff killed

it's a very cool stage design indeed, it's quite demanding when played on emulation though. PCs have evolved a bit since 2023 so it's less of a problem now, but I remember when we had to ban Hollow Bastion for performance reasons

it's actually fairly impressive it runs well on hardware as underpowered as the Switch, with everything that's going on in the background

4-player fights with items on probably drop frames, but 1v1 is silky smooth. (>= 5 players uses simplified stage backgrounds and shaders for performance reasons, so I'm not counting it here)

I mean that's not entirely true it wildly varies based on what kinda player you are and the best part is you have a choice on whether or not you want to do all that, what I will agree on is that doing everything is kind of insane, I personally did absolutely everything before touching the main story and what it did is that by the time I got to the main story stuff I was kind of a little bored and spaced out a lot and beelined through everything and I didn't fully retain everything, instead I retained a lot of the random sidequests I did, Phantom Liberty, gigs, romance quests and all that instead because that's pretty much all the stuff I did in the first dozen hours so definitely don't do that...

I still have refused to do the final mission and actually finish the game, I don't even know how the game ends or the endings at all yet

oh yes it depends on what you want out of a game

something like Fallout: New Vegas, you could just steamroll through the story and miss a ton of worldbuilding, and it's good on its own, but it's ultimately wayy less complete & the game is ultimately for someone who gets excited at the idea of doing everything and doing it over to see all the variables

i think like ultimately with western rpgs the way they are and the amount of games out there while people have to like work jobs i think a big problem is just that people worry about if the game theyre playing is worth it or not and get impatient

The game just lets you play as members of your staff instead of Snake and one of the rewards for online missions with points is swimsuit skins, and they're basically neglibile camouflage so I just use them to make the game harder because the guards can be very blind with the correct camo as long as you're crouching

also play on expert,i know it sounds like you should do classic first but its missing a good bit of what makes terraria not just good but great

bosses have new different attacks,theres lots of new items,some rare ones have improved drop rates and some more changes

to get copper you need to find enough nuggets on the surface, or pan for it though sand or gravel, to get enough for an ingot
you gotta find enough clay for a pick mold, and a crucible, form them yourself voxel by voxel into the correct shape, make a pit kiln and bake the pottery
then you gotta smelt the copper, make it molten, and pour it into the mold. THEN you can hopefully find some surface copper to mine with your copper pick! stone tools wont do it, and you need way more to make a copper anvil

not hardcre-hardecore but much harder than minecraft

farmland for example has nutrients, each crop drains some nutrient from the ground
its just simplified to P, K and N i think, each crop drains only one and they regenerate over time
so you gotta do crop rotation!

honestly thinking about it thats what master mode is tbh,master mode doesnt add any practically relevant content and just ups the stats of everything so its just boring kind of hard,expert i would say is worth atleast giving a try if you have the patience

i cant remember what else off the top of my head

spear heads, shovel heads, hoe heads, axe heads, knife blades and arrowheads out of flint stones

so how it works is some areas are less temporally stable than others, usually also the farther underground the less stable things get
that drains your meter
if it gets too low, the textures get all fucky and you hallucinate enemies
but its usually an easy fix, just go somewhere stable for a bit

I don't think normal/hard are bad on Thief, they just make the game a lot shorter while some people might prefer

I played T1 on Normal and T2 on Expert

T2 was more enjoyable but it's a better game overall (can't bunnyhop sadly though :P), but did get pretty lengthy

I remember those sleepless nights in mid-2022, playing Thief 2 then going to the kitchen downstairs IRL and trying not to make noise

it's like GoldenEye, many people will prefer Agent or Secret Agent if playing on a controller... and of course speedrunning since these are dedicated categories

ahh, i know for new players, including when i played, some missions can absolutely take up to an hour and even two or three if it's something particularly labyrinthian like Thieves' Guild, so i know that some might want them lower

just imo it's unfortunate to miss out on so much content for it since they do write extra funny little bits to the new objectives and having to escape

but ya having the time to play really matters

jumping back into a thief mission midway is also sort of disorientating in a way so i never really took huge breaks from any myself, which ofc is worse for fatigue when they take longer, i feel for it

I finished the first Heretic episode, the remaster is pretty good. The redesigned maps look a lot nicer too, I can compare since I played the original a few years ago

there is a mod for HD sounds (Dwars' mod ported to the re-release), but it sounds broken on E1M3, I had to remove it. Also, if you use it, you don't get achievements
