PBR is a deep rabbit hole, so if you have a few hours to kill, feel free to read https://google.github.io/filament/Filament.md.html π
(it's very well-written and has many diagrams to help understand things)
Oh god no
physics diagrams
my worst enemy
I don't remember where I got this piece of info from, but I remember being amazed when I found out that whenever games have some sort of sphere like object with a reflection like that, they almost always use a generic image for the reflection or a screenshot of the area that it cycles through when you move through the area a little bit
I think I remember it from learning about the reflection on the sniper scope in Counter Strike
Maybe it's just a Valve thing
so is there a reason why you wouldn't use PBR ever when making a game?
my impression was it's become standard now that specs and tools have improved enough anyone can do it
That's what I was thinking too but I wasn't sure
oh yeah there are tons of fun ways that older games faked mirrors and reflections when they couldn't afford to do real dynamic lighting/raycasting
one of my favorites is that room in Silent Hill 2 with the mirror filling almost the whole wall, where apparently they just copy-pasted the whole room and coded a 2nd player object to copy your movements lol
cubemaps, yeah
that's probably the one I remember the most too from watching SH2 related videos back in 2017 ish, the fact that it's a separate NPC copying your movements somehow makes it creepier
cubemaps were all the rage in the early 2000s, they were used both for reflections and skies (skyboxes)
they're still used today, except we use parallax correction to make box-shaped rooms have more accurate reflections
ok here's a stupid question
skyboxes are never actually boxes, right?
shouldn't it be skysphere? skyball? skyorb?
Conker copies the player model when you are above water and puts a flipped version below yourself to act as a cheap reflection
a skybox is a box! You just don't see it because it was taken with a 90-degree FOV and a 1:1 aspect ratio for each face, so there is very little distortion in practice
o
modern games will prefer using dual paraboloid maps instead (which are images with a 2:1 aspect ratio that map to a sphere), these have more distortion at the top/bottom but are easier to wrangle your mind around. It's also only one file to distribute instead of 6 (although some specialized formats like DDS can pack a cubemap into a single file)
these are also called HDRIs (for "HDR images"...) and are used to provide lighting for 3D rendering in general, even offline rendering in say, Blender
most games don't make you look straight up or down towards the sky, so the distortion is hard to see
some games do use different sky techniques, like sky domes that follow the player (the first Trackmania did this), or just a large sky dome that covers the entire world (later Trackmania games)
it's possible to fly the camera outside the sky dome, which makes the whole scene look rather eerie
on another note, I finished reinstalling Halo: MCC and am playing a bit of the CE campaign
it's a lot more enjoyable now that I got the sniper rifle
funnily enough, halo doesn't have a sky box, it has a sky ring
spacebox
just beat Rusted Moss
-# goddamn it was tedious at times
So PatStaresAt (most people will probably know him as AngriestPat or just Pat from Two Best Friends Play) has also gotten into Umamusume, and he has a child now, and he's taken extreme care in not really letting his child get his brain irreparably rotted from exposure to any type of super high stimulus videos or games or anything, unfortunately he lowered his guard with the horsies and the child got to see a bit of the horses racing and doing their thing and now seems to want to see more of that everytime he's with Paige (Pat's wife) watching his stream, and it's possibly the most incredibly funny turn of events I can think of

Just saw a clip of a streamer whipping himself yelling at the top of his lungs for Goldship to win the race (she ended up 2nd)
this horse racing thing is serious
what is the gameplay like, I know its about horses racing, tho what do you as the player have to do?
gacha shit idk
i watched NorthernLion play it and i'm gonna be honest i had zero idea what was happening lmao
It's a mix of basically training a specific horse girl for a specific event, raising their stats and managing their day to day training with some other events in the middle that are more visual novel esque with different interactions between the horse girls, but the main ''meat'' of the gameplay that you're actually interacting with is that you're basically raising and preparing the horse girl for that specific race event, and there's also gacha involved of course
a lot of people that don't really vibe with the anime stuff will usually skip the win concerts and the interactions in between and just go straight for training and watching the race play out
Or you could go to the true horse racing game.
Japan World Cup.
Who will win the Japan World Cup? Place your bets, it's gonna be one for the ages!

I've seen some people throw around other horse racing game recommendations especially those that are against the gacha aspect but honestly a lot of the draw about Umamusume is the fact that you get to hang out with your favourite horse girls too so that's definitely a big aspect of it, if you don't enjoy that then you basically don't enjoy a good 50% of the game already
also random and only tangentially gaming related but I think the actual real Liam Triforce just liked my Sunset Shimmer fanart and I don't know what to do with this information
thats insane
that's awesome
i didn't know Avatar and TMNT were going to be in the new Sonic racing game
Heavy from TF2 was in All Star Racing Transformed
holyyyy shit
Not just Heavy, but Pyro and Spy too!
might as well post this I think
Alongside new gameplay, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds' latest gameplay trailer revealed that Hatsune Miku, Like a Dragon's Ichiban Kasuga, Persona 5's Joker, and Minecraft's Steve will all be guest racers in the game.
#IGN #SummerGameFest
this game has a crazy roster lol
yeah yeah, though, I hope it isn't really expensive haha
Idk if I can justify Mario Kart level prices
$70 for standard and $90 for digital deluxe
oh no
Ah well, maybe on a sale in a few years
then again, even 40% off would still be too expensive
why the heck is it this much?
I think the only Sonic game I paid full price on release for was Shadow Gens
how was Shadow Generations?
Approximately this good
π that's good to know, thanks
For a real answer though I think it's legitimately some of the best modern Sonic level design and gameplay that there is and I'm gonna be so bummed if any subsequent Sonic games don't follow up on this level of quality
It made me interested enough on the game to want to S rank everything with my best possible times and made me stress out for like 2 hours because one of the final levels is so tight about the execution and shortcuts to get an S rank I was sweating at how hard I was trying so any game that gets me to do that I think is pretty good

i want to play war thunder for the air battles, they're a lot of fun but i dont like how long it takes to get new planes
my favourite Sonic character: Random human
This is why you don't just have automatically updating prices.
Why not?
Because the text became wrong
They should also have made the text change dynamically
I donβt know who that is
video essayist, mostly about Nintendo franchises

yeah, Spy had to be "censored" by removing his cigarette
but the animation was kept, so he will flip an invisible cigarette
oh that reminds me, it's been 10 years today since I got the baccalaureate
tehee, i love u emerald randomizer. time for some silly again
I'm afraid it's actually peak
I love umamusume but i need to learn how to properly use the styles and when to use them
It's so funny that people cheer on it like they are actually betting on horse racing.
I watched one of gold ship's 2015 race and cheered for him π
I don't like to gamble money but I'd legitimately go to a horse derby race just to watch
Video Games Europe, an industry lobby group, is now lobbying against the Stop Killing Games movement. I think we're stirring up the hive.

Good news, Stop Killing Games is working
Bad news, it's working too good, they're now pushing back against it lol

I'm out of the loop, what is this?
Stop Killing Games is a government petition.
Ahh. How many does that make now
it is a petition, basically to prevent live service games from being completely shut down
#1032716748887179434 message
Good luck
That's a hard uphill battle
I think they won too hard
Unfortunately online petitions have a history of doing nothing
It is very difficult to weave this conversation into chat in this server without it turning extremely divisive and political very fast.
With the current political climate that doesn't surprise me
It's not an online petition like change.org that makes no guarantees of any action, this is something that is directly sent to the EU governing body (maybe not exactly governing body but some division of it), so they WILL take a look at this now that there's been enough signatures. Whether they THEN take any action remains to be seen
SKG has been discussed quite a few times here before however
Wild, huh?
They are more referring to the digressions from that specific topic.
Yeah I'm not sharing for the actual EU political talk just for the update on how things are going
Yeah, EU petitions actually hold weight. Now that it's surpassed the 1 million signatures goal, it is basically forced in front of the politicians' faces so that they can have a serious discussion about it and possibly codify it into law.

Yeah, that's what differentiated SKG from any other random online petition from before, and it seems like it's working considering they're actually pushing back against SKG with some big name publishers being pretty against it and in the response Ross goes through in the video I shared a part he didn't quite mention is that in one part of the response they straight up just say that this passing would be bad because if games stop shutting down people are gonna be less inclined to buy new games, which is pretty wild to me
If it hurts it means it's working!
In somewhat related news: https://tech4gamers.com/ubisoft-eula-destroy-all-copies-game-goes-offline/
Not sure why they have the clickbaity image there
I saw that but apparently it's a policy thing from 2023
So it's true but not exactly new new iirc
Oh
I feel like this highly depends on the game if that's a problem or not
Because arguably, if the copy of the game is literally rendered unplayable, if they are just saying "listen, we don't want this to be sold to someone who doesn't know that it's not playable anymore, and then they call our tech support en masse trying to figure out they were scammed"
Which I feel is a fair concern, but also, maybe a bit much, maybe just add that you can't sell it once the game is closed.
If a copy of a game is literally rendered unplayable, you should be able to keep it for archival purposes
I agree, which is why I said it's too heavy handed as a measure, but I understand the problem it's trying to solve if that's the rasoning behind it
Yeah, the justification doesn't really matter here as much as the actual effect does
This does sound like one of the measures that they are likely going to enforce only in the cases in which the game was used to scam someone.
But yeah
Bunch of bricked CDs going around I could see being a problem.
Mind you, a problem of their own creation by making online only games so I don't have a whole bunch of sympathy to spare in the first place.
sounds like this is one of those situations where we need way more context and details than we actually have to judge whether it's good or bad, and the clickbaity headline/embed/etc is clearly not providing that
If it's in single player games it's also pretty shit
mm-hmm, exactly the kind of detail I mean
Which is why I said it depends on which games this clause is.
e.g. if this is just their boilerplate EULA legalese that they don't want to rewrite for every single game, much less risk having to update if they add/remove online features in later updates, then maybe that's harmless
I'm also pretty sure this isn't enforceable in like, most countries
tbc I'm not going to click the article since the embed alone convinces me it will not attempt to answer most of these important questions to make it possible to reach a conclusion about whether this is actual news or just the clickbait it appears to be
if a source I trusted was talking about this then I'd be happy to learn the details
Okay that I buy a license to the game so I don't have right to mantain access to the servers, but you bet that Ubisoft can't force me to destroy my property, which is the goddamn game disk
here's the actual line they added for the EULA btw
hold on, a little bigger
It's mostly in case you break the user agreement thing, but it does say that it also applies if they ever stop offering or supporting the product too
No way this is enforceable I would bet
it does seem like a strange sentence, but I'd need a lawyer's opinion on what the practical effect of this is, whether it's enforceable anywhere, or if it's one of those things where the legalese sounds like X to any layperson but actually means Y to a lawyer
like, obviously this doesn't work if they have no way of telling me about the "termination", which they won't for a single player game played offline
"At any time we like we can turn our servers off, brick your console, and send a guy to your house to kick you in the stomach"
Like, let's say I play Siege (I don't, I don't hate myself quite enough) and I get Banned for whatever reason.
Sure they can ban me but like, you bet I'm selling that disk as used at that point, there is no way they can compel me to destroy it, it's real weird that they think they could.
Siege was fun, I used to play it a fair bit. also Ixrec, Castlevania Order of Ecclesia is up on GDQ atm if that's of i nterest
IIUC it's still unclear if "clickwrap" EULAs hold any legal weight to begin with, so I'm dubious about any strong claims about the practical impact of specific lines in them
I mean it's a contract so it holds some weigh
As long as it doesn't infringe on any rights
Or other regulations
This makes me wonder if the main reason it's in there is to try to compel some ban evaders that find ways around a million bans
It's an interesting puzzle, trying to figure out what exactly they were trying to do with it
Like, the guy that uses vpn to connect to the server, has a new disk every week and rotate accounts to play the game, you can go "listen, by the eula you have to destroy every copy of the game you will ever own" and see if they can use it stop them that way
A license agreement is a contract but contracts are not enforceable in full all that often. In order for it to be enforceable, it has to be clear, offer an exchange where both sides have something to give and take, be specific, it should cover the full exchange without any strings attached off-contract, the obligations must be possible, specific and defined, the terms are somewhat fair, and many other conditions
It happens a lot that a contract is enforced until someone argues that it shouldn't be, and persuades the court to see their point
Oh yeah, and given how often the eula are just skipped and everyone involved is aware of that, it's probably it's the kind of contract that would be easiest to overturn.
But it has some weight, it's not completely meaningless, a company could hold you accountable for breach of contract if the reason they cite is something that it's obvious enough it'd be in there you would be reasonably aware of it even without reading it.
yeah, it's probably enough to at least reach judgements like "we did not violate the consumer's rights when we banned them for posting [REDACTED] in public chat"
If they sneak in there something like "if the CEO of ubisoft needs a kidney you agree to be the donor" it's probably something that it wouldn't hold up in court.

Here's to another 25 years of this masterpiece. π₯
Now would be an excellent time to announce a remake, Square Enix...
...but have it be an actual remake this time please
And not ARPG, I don't like ARPGs. They're just action games with more steps. Give me my turn-based JRPG FF9 remake, please and thank you.
one of these days we're going to have to fill out the rest of the alphabet like BRPG, DRPG, ERPG...
Dwarf RPG. Bee Rocket Proppeled Grenade(it explodes into bees)
RRPG: Roguelike RPG
Did FF9 have a fun turn based combat system?
I know there's a very popular mod to make FF9 strictly turn based because it was doing the whole active time battle thing where it's turn based but on real time
uh, maybe? I didn't have much trouble with 7 or 9, but I've never really found a turn-based combat system that I intrinsically liked in isolation, only as part of a larger experience where I'm not sure what else would've worked
yeah 7 was also ATB
fair enough
I enjoyed the Gamecube Lord of the Rings RPG, that was turn based, had some neat buff effects and such
called > The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age apparently

Bug pizza, synthetic meat, mix and match soda, and the immense rarity of actual animal meat
It doesnt seem all that appetizing but also, it might not be that bad

Try to get a Wii. Softmodding it is easy and GameCube works amazingly on it
ah ok! thanks for the heads up
Can it be midnight est already lol
Peak is almost playable finally
vinny is playing the horse game
Yeah, the game is basically turn-based under the hood unless you exploit ATB Wait. Some bosses are even guaranteed to act once for each action you get
wait i didn't know the horse girls were based off real horseys
Almost all are
My favorite horse is gold ship
omgggg the anime girl Vodka has the real Vodka's blaze on her hair
that's a quality horse
All of them like have those features in their hair
i love that
Special week has that white spot on her hair as is irl
I think it's funny that that specific detail is one of the first things pretty much everyone learns about the game
it was made by some real horse racing addicts
Yea the hair is the 2nd thing i notice, the first one is they're real horses
Some don't get the feature though
Yes, but it's clearly not the superior horse racing game
"Absolute insanity" doesn't even begin to describe these races
I don't know. What am I looking at?
hornse
Tokai Teio you fuckin dork
I've hired this horse to stare at you
how many hors girls are in the game
At least 1
Teio's energy was just great in her season of Umamusume. She was getting up there in the first season, too, but Golshi took the top spot for me there. Related, I dunno if I'll download the game on my phone. I tend to not pay attention then lose interest after a short while with gacha stuff.
People are ready to go to war for these horses
Also something about Bakushin
BAKUSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN
I will go to war for my horse girls
My special week absolutely gapped everyone in her debut
.... In 9th place
The game will not be one I will be picking up. It is right up my alley with the cute horse girls but the gacha and other mechanics simply do not interest me in the "I want to play" capacity.
So I will watch vtubers lose their minds over horse girls instead
I can't watch anything live π
I am, however, going to get the PC version of Stellar Blade and also Clair Obscur because it looks cool.
what about the archived vods
Yea i can
I mean the vtubers i want to watch i probably need someone else to translate a vod
Ha ha ha ha ha!
They say I'd just win if i spam training speed on sakura o bakushin
Ok that strategy actually works
Bakushins her way into ura semi finals
Out of 16 races she won 11, and in the other 5 she placed 2nd
I tried her at a daily race and she fucking smokes them so much that the distance between her (she's 1st) and 2nd place is just called Distance
And it goes way beyond their appearances, even quirky movements they do in the anime are usually based on stuff the actual horse would do
So gold ship drop kicks because the real horse likes to kick everything
Watched one of his races and he did not want to go into one of the stalls
unironically I have read that exact factoid about Gold Ship
on top of the infamous stall entrance/exit fails
Dubious 12 billion yen incident
A factoid is something shaped like a fact that isn't
Yea exactly, it's a factoid and i think its just accepted that the real reason why gold ship drop kicks you if she placed 1st is because of the temper tantrums the real gold ship has
ok, tbc when I said that I was thinking of comments from people familiar with the real horse races talking about irl Golshi, as part of other posts that made it clear they were directly familiar and not just copy-pasting stuff from elsewhere
the burning crusade
only Wii models made before 2011 support GameCube backcompat
@bitter stream ^
yeah, just gotta make sure they're the Wiis with the gamecube controller ports.
I did not know they stopped making Wiis with game cube controller ports
they stopped including some GameCube hardware that allowed for GameCube compatibility
not just controller ports IIRC
(backcompat on the Wii is not emulation)
the Wii is a GameCube Pro π
Lower production costs because wii was an amazing seller.
PoV: Kazuya showing off his babysitting skills
Yep that's the one my nephew got, the family edition, slimmer and goes horizontally, but no GameCube ports or compatibility
The wii mini has even less, it's just a square that you put wii discs in, no wifi at all and no sd card slot either, and no compontent video compatibility either
Pretty tempted to swap out his family edition for an og wii model one of these days, the wii is cool but the GameCube has so many goodies, having a console to do both is basically a goldmine for a kid
And modding a wii isn't exactly hard anyway
the Wii is the definitive way to play GameCube on original hardware, it's what nearly all Melee players (including tournaments) use at this point since it's easier to mod
and you get fewer framerate drops thanks to the faster hardware. Some 60 FPS mods become possible like Mario Sunshine
POV: Don Tigre vs the Turtle Child
Fortunately people here sell their used wiis with all the little knick knacks and everything for pretty cheap, definitely much cheaper than what I got the 2DS I gifted my nephew for
Only problem is a lot of people sell their consoles already modded, which would be a good thing, except I kinda would like to do all that stuff myself, I already know how the process goes for modding a wii or a 3ds but I never really looked at how to undo it
of course I could always just buy an already modded one and just delete the games I don't want and put the ones I want in there too but I always worry about the software being outdated or something
available now on gamebanana
support me on gumroad

damn
I was very incorrectly soured on it being turn based as well but I ended up not caring and even enjoying the turn based combat
I have no idea why I recoil at turn based combat for every other game but in PokΓ©mon I'm just like "oh yeah cool no prob"
don't worry i'm the same exact way lmao
Final fantasy 7 is secretly turn based under the hood
E33 and Dragon Quest XI are the only non-PokΓ©mon turn based combat games I've played in recent memory
that's the spirit
its turn based, but you can also parry/dodge the attacks that the enemies throw at you
Her other stats may be horrible but what matters is bakushin
oh so like Mario & Luigi ????
Just poured everything into speed lol
Yea like only speed for sakura bakushin o
And she just can't stop winning
She only lost once, and she was 2nd place because i didn't make her front
With that much speed seems like she just can't stop period
Race ends and she just keeps going
I do want to get her to SS+ on speed
Like... Just pure speed
No horse girl just Bakushin and Speed left
yep, theres QTE for that
Absolute bakushin
Almost thought the little one was gonna smoke me
Was too close for comfort
see, I have consistency and integrity (because I also don't like Pokemon
)
E33 proves that turn based combat can be really engaging. So much so that Square Enix themselves are questioning if they should return to it.
admittedly, Fire Emblem works for a lot better for me than what people typically have in mind with "turn-based combat"
and when I watched Persona 5 I was surprised at how, even to me, it was obviously a way more engaging system than the old FFs I formed my mental stereotype from
Meanwhile, I donβt know why people would be bothered by turn-based systems.
Same tbh
"bothered" might be overstating it
for me "typical turned-based J/CRPG combat" is just not interesting; it was something I did to get to the end of FF7 and 9 but it has no intrinsic appeal
occasionally it's a frustrating obstacle but usually it just bored me
G U N
I wasn't even trying for that
Are you playing on Heroic or Legendary?

Subnautica 2's early access has been delayed to 2026, seemingly to avoid paying out $250M in bonuses to the dev teams they were about to earn in mere days for meeting other targets
Fuck Krafton
Yep, turn based. But as others have said: you can either dodge enemy hits (for just damage avoidance), or (with the timing shown by a 'perfect dodge' parry them. If you parry, that helps with your attack resource, and if you parry all the hits of the enemy (which can be quite a few), you will counter them for MASSIVE CRAB DAMAGE
That's Soo screwed up
And the sound and visual design for parrying feels so good
So Krafton made that $250M, it's now just not going to the people who made the other games

Doing mining math https://i.imgur.com/IFquKZk.png
The rune pickaxe I have gives me three ticks per attempt, and my skill gives me 23.05% chance to mine a coal every attempt. This gives me a rough expected time of two hours per thousand coal rocks
If I get so unlucky that I'm in the 99.9% worse case scenario, the time jumps to thirteen hours for a thousand rocks
The fact that there are only four rocks and the respawn time of each is 30 seconds, this caps me to an effective time of 7.5 seconds per rock unless I hop worlds. If I don't want to switch servers repeatedly, this method stops being viable at around ~65 mining

The plot thickens, but now stuff is getting lost in hearsay and dubious links to "proof" that Krafton or the ousted Unknown Worlds leaders are at fault
If Krafton is telling the truth here, it is extremely scummy that the three executives took 90% of the $250 million for themselves. But that's only if they're telling the truth, which we have no reason to believe at this time. It's all "he said, she said" at the moment.
Until hard, undeniable proof comes out that one or both parties are at fault, the best thing that can be done is to simply keep boycotting the game, or at least the studio.
when the pre-load is downloaded
Yeah I will not be touching this game now, a hard fall from my eariler opinion of "hop in early access the second it's available to support the devs"
the current game is 150gb, and i can only assume the reason everything is double is because it redownloads the whole game on account of major system changes
so there's both the old version, and then an encrypted new version waiting for servers to say its time to install
https://www.reddit.com/r/subnautica/comments/1lvyc7f/do_not_buy_subnautica_2/ that seems to be a popular sentiment
(though that post is one sided without mention of the post that you mentioned, i think)
So Krafton admits that there were $250M in bonuses to be paid but they claim that 90% of it was earmarked for the ousted UW leads with the expectation that the money would be incentive to continue great leadership, but they claim that they kinda fucked off with the money and decided to focus on other things... which contradicts what one of the leads said, that as far as they know their release was sudden and with little reasoning. Now, they didn't say anything about receiving any bit of the $250M but reasoning for that is only speculation.
it was a shitshow, obviously
Please keep this, lol

This isn't story spoilers, just minor spoilers for a delivery
Gloves are off https://www.reddit.com/r/subnautica/comments/1lwsxco/lawsuit_a_community_update_from_charlie/
Very interesting times ahead.
I'm somewhat skeptical that they can throw together a lawsuit in what, 5 hours?
They were probably working on it already and it just lined up with what Krafton said. Either way, if these three are actually suing Krafton while declaring that they did not, in fact, keep 90% of the $250 million for themselves and that they didn't see a penny of it, then it's effectively a defamation lawsuit, which is serious.
I don't think the 250 million was ever paid out at all. The claim, as I understand it, was that they were fired before the money would've been delivered (presumably on launch or EA launch of the game). The framing is that Krafton did it to avoid paying, Krafton's argument is that they were fired because they weren't actually doing their job and presumably the game wasn't in a state ready to go.
Yeah. From wikipedia:
The delay was announced months before the studio was eligible for a $250 million payment bonus, which would be received if the studio met revenue targets at the end of 2025.
So, basically, the story up until this point was that these three people were fired and the game delayed presumably so Krafton could avoid paying out this promised bonus. Which is why Krafton brings in the 90% number (ie the studio would get 250 million but 225 would've been to these three guys).

Corporate Clash (Toontown private server) uses a chat filter where only a specific list of words are allowed, and it does a pretty decent job
if you use a word not in the list, it's replaced by an onomatopea corresponding to your toon's species, so it looks funny at times when people make typos
the list is rather extensive at this point, it's rare for me to run into issues unless I use obscure proper nouns, brand names, etc
I'd still rather a solution with smarter filtering

Years after finishing my original attempt to beat GTA 5 with the lowest possible kill count, Iβve learned so much more about the gameβs hidden mechanics, mission scripting, and the secrets behind βunavoidableβ kills. Re-examining every challenge, Iβm pushing the limits of pacifist runs, uncovering methods to skip forced kills and shari...
Does that count harming people in cutscenes?
It says kill in the title so I figure the rules are a bit loose regarding interpretation
I assume not, challenge runs usually ignore cutscenes (unless you get to choose the cutscene)
The idea is to skip the cutscenes and do the game without triggering them somehow
Nah gta is too restrictive for that
games with that level of freedom usually have few or no cutscenes anyway
The rules are essentially that the player cannot be in control when kills happen, or to try for melee, or use only the basic pistol
Gta has char switching, so a lot of strategies require you to swap to someone else and then the npc version makes the kill
Makes sense
The 2.0 part is that there were 96 required kills in the original series, but 5 years of optimization, skill improvement and glitchfinding will get that number down, or shift some from shooting kills to melee kills
Too many.

I was going to post the kanji for fugu, but now I'm more amused by the fact that the kana -> kanji converter includes a fugu emoji option
Funnily enough the game talks about how Japanese cuisine in particular has difficult kanji
Since both Ichiban and Saeko end up misreading the menu
to be fair fugu for ζ²³θ± is a pretty BS kanji reading
and the server is like "Yeah we're actually considering putting the pronunciations on the menus"
plus, "river pig"? I guess that's not wrong but I would've thought of, like, hippos first
Guessing because like, pig = filth and filth leads to illness???
(the serious answer is almost certainly "history is weird and words just happen")
(And the realistic answer is "Yakuza is silly and would include this linguistic nonsense for a gag.")
Side note: I like the Persona-esque options that raise your social stats based on your choice.
(They were probably in the previous game, but I only recall them being in the equivilant to Social Links)
-# Yakuza is slowly becoming Persona for old fucks like me
Usually thereβs some logic to them, whether thatβs drawing analogies to other things or (relevantly here) choosing phonetically similar elements to a pre-existing term for writing about it.
(The rebus principle; this is actually thought to have been crucial for the transition from proto-writing to writing full stop)
-# well aside from the fact Ichiban actually has a personality, unlike Persona protagonists
-# Not counting spinoffs or adaptations like the Persona 4 anime, as much as I love Yu in that
since we're still on it... https://gogen-yurai.jp/fugu/ is telling me they used to be called "fuku", and the two main theories for the "fuku" name are that it comes either from their sand-blowing habit (fuku = to blow), or from a funny-looking gourd called a fukube they allegedly resemble
Japanese is 3 languages in a trenchcoat
-# and there's definitely a decent topic you could discuss about the Persona 4 anime being "unfaithful" with its more comedic and slapstick tone, but i think giving the characters (especially Yu) room to breathe made the experience so much better as a post-P4 companion piece. And the scene of Yu outside the hospital after <LATE P4 SPOILER REDACTED> gives a lot more weight to the scene given Yu is actually a fucking character in the anime and not just your puppet
Japanese, Chinese, and "Western"
my favorite "Japanese is a trenchcoat" moment was when I learned their word for "giraffe" is γγͺγ³ kirin
Persona 4 anime is a fucking treasure, btw
Like, I could maybe see someone denounce it because it takes a lot of libreties with the plot and the various Social Links, but that's kind of... What I like about it?
anyway this has been my random unneeded tangent/rant for the day, good night
Adorable
I mean, there are a lot of English names that are like this, such as βhippopotamusβ
ofc, no one's claiming it's as much of a trenchcoat as English
no one can compete with English on that metric
Persian actually is pretty similar on that front.
A lot of its vocabulary is actually just Arabic.
(Similar to English vis-a-vis French/Latin, and for similar reasons).
A pretty decent chunk of the rest is French and English.
For example a common word for βthanksβ is just straight up merci.
Maghreb-area and north African (except Egypt) Arabic tends to borrow a ton from French

I... Genuinely am finding it hard to take the plotpoint of a vtuber cancelling Ichiban and co seriously.

I dunno! I genuinely feel bad for them!
They're losing work because some th0t decided to misinterpret their jobs as "crimes"!
Like yeah it looks bad but they're doing this with permission essentially!

Like damn, I can't imagine finally getting steady work and immediately having it taken away.
Are they pentesting?
Yes!
Yeah so it doesn't matter what a vtuber says
well unfortunately context is overrated, according to her they're straight up robbing and she's popular, so that's the narrative.
something something internet culture
It doesn't matter what other people think too???
that does seem like a confused plot point; why would firms specifically looking for pentesters be taking this as a source if she clearly is unaware of the concept of pentesting

So there's more info to the Subnautica 2 drama. Apparently some internal documents (presentation slides) have leaked which support (but not necessarily prove) Krafton's narrative. Apparently some of the goals are missing, such as two biomes, a vehicle, a leviathan.
A reddit post looking at this is pointing out that in the time it took to make Subnautica 1, subnautica 2 seems to have at most 30% of what they have planned "done".
Krafton has confirmed these leaked documents are real, as well.
Though as a side note, they also are claiming that the leads are not focused on releasing the game or are essentially slacking off - specifically the one guy who posted about him going to sue Krafton, they say he's been focusing his time on directing an ai generated (supported?) christmas movie instead of focusing on the game
||https://bsky.app/profile/ethangach.bsky.social/post/3ltrlktjqzc24|| link to the slides in question - I don't think they're story spoilery but content spoilery, if that makes sense? So click at your own risk
Didn't the devs say that while it wasn't yet ready for release, it was still ready for early access? Two missing biomes, a missing vehicle, and a missing leviathan aren't deal-breakers for that.
Yet Krafton said it was "nowhere near ready".
Yeah, that's why it "supports" and not "proves". From what I can tell, it's a matter of
a) the devs wanting to do the same thing as with Subnautica 1 Early Access and add as they go.
b) feature creep. Slide shows an absolute ton of stuff
c) Krafton expecting more of this stuff being done. Especially since the game is already apparently already 5 years into development
seems like a good armchair analysis

Plagued sheep escaped into the countryside. This is a matter of national security so use your own money to buy protective equipment, grab a cattleprod and prod four of the diseased sheep into the pen. The sheep don't move diagonally, and move a fixed amount of tiles per prod, so you have to plan out your prodding, but don't take too long because if you do they'll just wander back to where they were
And once you have one of each type, you fucking feed them poisoned food to kill them
Why couldn't I just kill them myself? I have a big fucking sword
Also, in the time it took for me to type this out, the bones of the sheep despawned so I have to prod again
And why couldn't I feed them poisoned food in the wild? Why do I have to herd them first?
Why are the sheep bones special items with a lower respawn timer than normal items?
I had to incinerate one of each type of bone, but why? There's more plagued sheep out there
This quest was made in 2002 by Tom W
You are my enemy, Tom
Worse, the quest is harder if you have a higher ping, because for some dumb reason the sheep are managed by the server despite the whole quest being something other players cannot affect
I should have incinerated the councilor who gave me the quest

Black ops 7 will be revealed at gamescom @astral steeple
It was the biggest launch in COD history but Hopfully 7 will be better
Big in what term?
Maybe I'm out of the loop but I really didn't see the game get talked that much out of just being on game pass.
I think CoD has saturated the market so fully, while also being so unlikely to change in any meaningful way, that everyone who isn't interested in playing it just has no reason to ever talk about it
Fastest selling I think
I mean I had some interest, not on launch day. I wanted some discounts.
Activision said they would tone down the MTX bundles but havenβt seen that slowing down
But now I don't want Black Ops 6 since the 7th interation is already on the way.
Most of the bundles would actually fit 7
right I meant people like me who aren't going to be playing any of the CoDs
Well, I mean I have a few CoD buddies and they didn't play the newest one... so maybe they also lost interest. I don't know, I guess we're all burned out from the triple a corp aspects.
I still see one of my friends hop on to play IW4X or Plutonium.
Not sure if you played outbreak deviant. But the next outbreak is coming to 7 as it was found in the files for 6.
Oh yeah... forgot about Cold War... that was a thing... everyone thought out it was a weird spinoff.
I mean it has been long since I've been interested in CoD after Advanced Warfare.
It was actually meant to be sledgehammers game. But treyarch took over because of a falling out with activision at the time.
Makes sense, Activision was out for more money.
And was made during Covid
Well that would do it.
Outbreak 2 is meant to be a tranzit remake but with fast travels. Round based will still be there, but not sure how many maps will be be there at launch
Beta should be happening soon. But am actual alpha was found that players can get invited to before the real beta
I forget, is this MP only now? No more story?

they're playing Runescam instead of Runescape

"The great sword is the tremendously damaging, tremendously high commitment weapon that spends about half its time doing nothing and the other half delivering monsters the approximate mass of the observable universe."

ooo more games to buy that il never get around to playing
found the easter egg in Talos too (related to #manechat message) π
Don't worry, automation games are designed to play themselves eventually, lol.
I'm not sure I can continue to play Silent Hill 2. Its so creepy that I don't feel right while playing it, I actually felt sick
Im only like an hour into the game too
I think im going to refund it ngl, I might watch a playthrough instead
This has never happened to me with a game before. Its a really good game, its just too much
stylin on those bitches
favorite passtime is shitting on people in brawlhalla so bad that they disconnect
Good Katars players are scarier than good scythe players
Brawl is so fun until youre on a losing streak
honestly mostly cuz scythe players generally lack the consistency
very very VERY small minority know how to play scythe properly and dont just fish for clips every moment and lose half their matches cuz of that
or that, honestly a lot of times i avoid the game just cuz of that, i recah diamond on the season then im good just hop on experimental or ranked 2v2
lucien, ember, lord vraxx, diana, nix, loki, priya
really? thats pretty cool
not a lot of lord vraxx players iirc haha
I partial to Thor, Yumiko, and Kaya
hes of lesser priority honestly, TOP top chracters for me are lucien ember diana
ooh i dabled in some kaya as well, not much though cuz spear doesnt really fit my playstyle
all of their sigs are really solid
ngl i barely ever even use sigs
which one?
the bird
whats your rank?
ah, at that playtime its p normal
i may have dabled in ranked a lil bit
(many seasons in a row diamond now)
I'd say im half decent, good enough to smoke anyone at a party
until this sucka shows up
yeaaah at parties its a 1v3 to have a chance against me
nah nah, ive 1v3'd players with hours between 200-400
might have to 1v1 at some point
region?
tries to hit
everyone walks off stage
announcer GAME?
literally
we'd have to use future sight
how many hours do you have in Terraria/Tmod?
well then id have the advantage cuz im in a further time zone
approx 1.5-2k on terraria if all platforms combined, 335 on tmod
doing an infernum playthrough rn, just defeated golem
whoa thats crazy, literally almost the exact same for me
Me and my friend are doing masochist mode calamity
whats masochist mode?
ah, havent tried that one
not sure how it compares to infernum
only really play calamity with addons, did 2 revengeance playthrough with ranger and melee, and rn ranger infernum
other than calam its only like inf potions and recipe browser along side visual mods
EZ FAVE
like so far above everything else
ranger > mage > melee > summoner > rouge
hmm id say like ranger>summoner>rogue>melee>mage
i just dont like how inconsistent the weapons feel honestly
and i dont like having resource convenience/conservation use up accessory slots, i want pure numbers
Shredder, Voidragon, all the cool flamethowers, soma prime
i freaking love the flamethrowers
even if theyre just okay for most the game
the best shit is seeing that 100000 dps when you pop adrenaline and are point blank
or when youre testing damage on a test dummy and your audio just becomes a cheese grater
im always too lazy to craft a dummy
are you a eye of cuthulu test dummy, or a destroyer test dummy type of person?
who's your punching bag
also send a pic of your base
I will judge it
whatever the current boss im on progression wise
oooh boy youll have a field day with that

straight to jail
(if you look, they arent even in the row of an average progression)
how did you get ponies?
i only know 1 mount at end game calamity pony wise
well you see the difference here is that i got those soviet brutalism genes in me
if it works it works, no need for fancy shmancy stuff
ah, im only using a calamity based complete texture pack
Applejack would be proud, Rarity would cry
rarity is my favorite
i read your messages in Aj's voice now
she'll change her mind when i show her my photography skills
"darling, this simple won't do"
This painting is vanilla
its of Yogscast's mlp minecraft series lol
βͺ Minecraft Parody - How Do I Craft This Again? (When Can I See You Again?)
Martyn has teamed up with with Sparkles, Ciaran, Lewis and Simon to make a new Minecraft Parody song - How Do I Craft this Again?
Based on Owl City's "When can I see you Again?" from Wreck-It Ralph.

the memories this pulled from the void that is my brain
why does he sound like adventure time finn
I hate that I know the lyrics
πΆ i gaze off into the boundless skyline note block choir playing in the sunshine turn around pickup my sword and wield the blade that once forced evil mobs to yield πΆ
If this battle shall leave me slain, I know herobrine will call my name. Better to takeeee a stand, that was when I ruled the land
Also Viva la vida is one of my fav songs, so that oneβs easy to remember
better to taaaaake a stand that was when i ruled the land
i honestly might prefer fallen kingdom
though i love both
It gets a nostalgia bonus
I used to go hard to βdonβt mine at nightβ
Such silly times

Now Iβm into ponies
So I guess Iβm still silly
this also has like unreasonably good animation quality
Where did Antvenom go
Sethbling too
I stopped watching hermitcraft after they kicked out Iskall
idk anything about minecraft past 1.7.10-1.8 days
Iβve been on a Minecraft drought for a while
I still have played a few times
1.7.10 and 1.8.9
Absolute peak updates
.7.10 is PEAK mod experience, it does not get better
I still can jitter click 13 cps because of 1.8 pvp
It comes in useful sometimes, like trying to shake sauce out of a jar or something
Itβs also fun to jitter click a pen
Since itβs absurdly annoying
i just do a finger ladder with a pen and hope i dont drop it and get told off at an exam
Anyone here play the game Wario Ware DIY? It might be one of my favorite DS games.

I had a similar question to Redβs, is anyone here familiar with Delta-V: Rings of Saturn?
Stream about the update will be on the 16TH
so after spending a couple hours trying out xbox game pass, it's sort of eh? i'm not a fan nor a hater, i'm indifferent on it. like, it's great that it gives you the option to try out games at no extra cost, but the main gripe i have with it is how little all ages/family friendly games there are on it. i can't get into m rated games at all, and the t rated stuff is hit or miss for me. there are less than 150 everyone/everyone 10+ games on game pass. it makes me sad to be honest. perhaps i don't fit the demographic for the service. i can't really help it because i can't ever get into more mature stuff.
Excite
it's a good deal if you buy it and cancel it immediately after, so you don't pay for it when you don't actively use it. You'll keep it until the period you paid for ends
the 21th century's worst nemesis, subscriptions you don't use π
Makes me feel like a broke project car owner
I sold every part that i can sell to upgrade the engine
"Let's show this guy you can't P2W Sujimon!"
me with my collection of DLC Sujimon:
i canceled it already, don't worry
they should add more everyone/everyone 10+ games to it if they want me to pay for it
unfortunately, too many m rated games are being made those seem to be the ones that are always on game pass
Just because something is 18+ doesn't mean it's gonna be bad or to extreme
18+ is kinda tame in many cases
ehhh i still would rather not play that stuff
It could be 18+ purely because it has one or two scenes with blood
you can always ask us what the actual content in any specific game we've played is, if e.g. the ESRB website doesn't go into enough detail
tbh half the reason I like ESRB and similar rating systems is that, despite how inherently arbitrary any broad classification system like that has to be, it is extremely easy to go a step further and get a paragraph of text from them describing what content they considered relevant to a rating
i suppose i could
Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown is 18+ solely because of its simulated gambling minigames. This automatically gets you 18+ for PEGI
otherwise, it's just as time as say, Forza Horizon in terms of actual content
-# meanwhile, FIFA ultimate team (or whatever it's called now) isn't
it's like the Balatro situation last year, but TDU did not try to appeal it
I wish TDU went down a better path...I'm still a little hopeful that they can turn it around, because the core gameplay and map are pretty great imo, but they really fucked up the rest.
I was really looking forward to it. Loved the first two games so much
I reinstalled TDU2 last week, RohanKar has a collection of delisted games over on archive.org
Yup, I pull that out every now and then as well! Also played the fanmade server project thingy with a friend for a bit
I know critics weren't too into it back then, but man has it aged well as a game
In my humble opinion
Maybe modern AAA-games just aren't for me.
they should add more original xbox/xbox 360 games to game pass
where is cars 2.

GAME OF THE YEAR
what are the other ones
Pettiest shit ever
The quest is called The Ribbiting Tale of a Lily Pad Labour Dispute

The dispute evidence is also petty
