The dog makes the CK2 loading screen art goofy as hell instead of dramatic
Regal dog
he looks like Milou, the dog from Tintin
Snowy, in english
You joke, but that's a literal lap dog. Royalty of many cultures used to own small dogs like that to warm their laps on cold days.
And in return they got headpats, belly rubs, and food.
Achievement done https://i.imgur.com/483T0Pm.png
It's such a hassle to fight nomads.
They can spawn soldiers on occupied territory, you need to build forts or have soldiers in their nomadic land or else you it's not occupied, and once you win you have to build cities or castles in every county else it falls back to being in nomad hands.
For this achievement I started as Saxony so I can easily go viking
congrats

Yeah
Next achievement... persistent survivor? https://i.imgur.com/C5yt3di.png
It's really hard to resist conquering and conquering until the game slows down, so I'm going to try starting as a count-level vassal and focusing a lot on my demesne
what ends the game exactly?
Reaching the end date
It's a historical roleplay simulation! You get to make up your own goals
In practice usually deciding that you’re done and starting something else.
The end date for CK2 is the historial fall of constantinople, which western historians tend to decide as a marker for the end of the medieval era
You do get a game over if you don’t have an heir of your blood on succession, too.
For this run I just finished, I started at 769 and ended the game around 950ish
(as soon as I achieved my goal)
I had that once while playing as the Karlings from 769, for some reason I always had a lot of trouble having kids in that game.
Running out of heirs can easily happen
Almost happened to me this game because someone assassinated my emperor and two of his three children
since I had the alexander bloodline this played to my benefit, since each ruler gets to use the invasion casus belli once, and with that you can conquer everything really fast
Were they named Atreus?
I'll open up the chronicles
(It’s a joke, Atreus was famous in Greek mythology for murdering his half-brother and then, in a feud with his brother, murdering his nephews and tricking his brother into cannibalizing them)
Helene II, Ansgardohtor and Ekbert from left to right, top to bottom, ending the game with Jutta Theodericing
now that has me thinking about where everyone else's "medieval" periods end...
Japan's the only one I'm familiar enough with to say the obvious choice is the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 (a nice round year by total coincidence)
In the west, Spanish and Atlantic focused historians pick Columbus and the Reconquista. Religious historians tend to pick Martin Luther's theses. Social and economic historians tend to pick the plague. Islamic historians don't have a middle ages period, but when talking about the western ones they tend to pick the Mongol invasions and the fall of Baghdad as important points near the end of the medieval era.
In CK2 you see some Reconquista early if you're lucky, as well as the plague, the mongol invasion, fall of baghdad. The fall of constantinople rarely happens on time.
Inserts the conspiracy theory that parts of the medieval never actually happened
That's not a conspiracy theory, that's just historians disagreeing (for bad and good reasons)
No idea if this should go in gaming or creations..so ima just do both
Nice
what year is it on the Islamic calendar
Atleast 2
There's several islamic calendars
The hijri calendar is 1446 now
(I was born 1412)
I think PK is referring to conspiracy theories arguing that history was faked somehow to move events around or insert made-up events into time. The New Chronology of Fomenko or Phantom Time are examples.
Right, but historians also make this sort of claim at times
Yeah this
Errors in history tend to come in the following categories:
Something added, removed, moved, minimized, magnified, split, fused, reframed, misattributed.
For each of these categories, the error can be intentional or unintentional.
the background art in that DLC is so good
oh that looks familiar to me
Maybe I'm remembering wrong, as I haven't played since 2019 but I'm pretty sure it wasn't there
when was that DLC released?
that tracks then, I played all of AHiT well after even the DLCs were old news
Kiwami means extreme!
I think my other favorite wall art in the metro was the one with the samurai cat
god nyakuza metro was so fun
i don't know what that means
ah, buying all the random junk from the half-dozen metro cats becomes a big deal when someone's Hookshot or Super Missile lands in those spots
ahhh
in fact on second thought metro might be the best level in the randomizer; it's really the only one where receiving the metro tickets in a non-vanilla order gives you these criss-crossing non-vanilla paths to get to various parts of it

bro the fucking screenshots from the player manual is cracking me up
get in the mecha, mario
Maybe, but this goes well beyond that to claim that, for example, the entire Middle Ages were just completely made up and never happened.
This is very different from saying that, for example, the version of Egyptian history relayed by Herodotus seems to have conflated some pharaohs and invented others.
Or that the “Seventh Dynasty” might not actually have existed.
Yeah whenever I hear it, it's usually tangential to some reptilian/illuminati/lizard people bullshit

Well this caught me off guard.
It does. I'm not even into DK games particularly, but Bananza looks so high-effort and neat
BANANZAAAAAAAAAA

Looking at Poppy Kong yeah lmao
looks at Daisy in Mario Kart World
Also Peach, Rosalina, Pauline, and Wario, lol.
Also the cow. Not in the "attractive" sense, but in the "we know you think this guy is cute so we are going all out with its cuteness" sense.
The knew from the start the cow was gonna make them millions.
i remember seeing a post comparing Daisy and Peach's... Ass-ets and there's definitely some bias there which i approve of as a life-long Daisy enjoyer because i like women with a goddamn personality

ROGUELITE ON RAILS
Battle Train brings classic roguelite design to the tracks with fast-paced duels, branching paths, and floor-based progression packed with bosses, special events, and escalating stakes.

nice, I've never played these but I did watch the Josh Strife Hayes videos, and I remember him saying this part catches everyone off guard
I mean ||its literally the first level||. So yeah!
What caught me even more off guard was when I picked up the secrit item.
Its like the game was mocking me there lmao.

mood
so real, I do enjoy this game as a whole, but its also the type of game I need to take frequent breaks from bc of the difficulty at times
les gooooo
this level is so hard in Halo 2
which one
Quarantine Zone
im on Normal
are you playing on controller or KB/M?
controller
I suppose controller in Halo MCC has generous aim assist out of the box (does it depend on difficulty like in GoldenEye?)
so it's probably not too much of a skill difference
does that meaningfully affect the difficulty for Halo?
I'm playing Dark Forces Remaster on my Ally X and it has vertical aim assist only, no horizontal aim assist
it runs beautifully at 120 FPS with a 4W TDP, so I can have 7+ hours of battery life
I can probably finish the game in a single charge 😛
in comparison, for Forza Horizon 4 at 120 FPS, I need a 40W TDP which only gives me 1.3 hours or so
playing with autoswitch be like
Arbiter is cool but i do kind of miss playing as Chief
"autoswitch"?
I always turn it off, most games don't implement it well (they will switch even if you are currently firing or if the new weapon is worse than your currenet weapon)
automatically switching weapon when you get a new one
(or sometimes not a new one... the worst kind)
Doom is a worst offender here, its autoswitch is not optional in the vanilla game
it can actually screw with some speedruns in situations where you can't avoid a weapon pickup (this is a common issue with the berserk pickup, which always switches you to the fist even if you've already picked one beforehand)
huh
ok that was really confusing for a second because I don't think Halo does any of this?
(unless you count the times it'll reset your weapons at the start of a level)
I only keep autoswitch on in Doom multiplayer, because maps often have a weapon on every spawn point you'll want to switch to
(since starting with a different weapon than the pistol is not a vanilla-compatible feature)
and pressing 3 after every spawn gets tiring 😛
i will say, boarding enemy vehicles and planting grenades and then jumping off makes me feel badass
oh yeah, I remember the Halo 2 marketing made a big deal out of vehicle boarding
it remains a great feature in the later games too, some of my favorite hijackings happen in Halo 3's Tsavo Highway
god im so excited to play Halo 3 lmao
you'll appreciate it so much more after experiencing the Halo 2 stuff first, especially 2's Brutes
I did that in Just Cause 2 the other day when I ran out of ammo
grapple to enemy vehicle, drop grenade, grapple to your vehicle, detonate grenade
oh... did that become a standard feature after Halo 2?
Original OPL3 soundtrack or the new MIDI option?
wait I just read the rest of that sentence, that's weird
but I don't play shooters on controllers so I would never know about those settings
I think Halo is probably the only one I'd be inclined to because those games are built for controller, especially xbox
But playing shooters on controllers just doesn't feel right to me at all
new MIDI, I think
I can't stand the OPL sound personally, it always sounded like a budget low-end version of General MIDI
(it's the same in Doom)
I play everything on controller unless the game literally doesn't support it
damn, fair enough though
which is interesting because I did grow up with PC games, including a few PC shooters, before a clear switch to consoles
i assume you don't use mice because you're a cat
so I'm pretty sure controllers are just intrinsically more comfy for me when it comes to long gaming sessions
and/or I've never had the raw skill required to make mouse aiming the objectively superior technology that everyone keeps insisting it is
I suppose OPL was good when you had no other option back in the day (or if your only alternative was... shivers... PC speaker)
not everyone could afford a sound card that did General MIDI, one that did FM synthesis, one that did Gravis UltraSound back in the day 😛 and add some MT-32 for good measure
we have it easy now
did you try gyro aiming?
what is that
I don't know why but I went with the OPL for my playthrough even though it was my first time, something about the MIDI sounded off to me and didn't give me the same vibe that the original sound did
aiming based on the gyroscope in the controller (for fine refinements, quick angle changes are still done with right stick)
pffff
it's supported in many modern games but Xbox controller don't have it, as they lack a gyroscope. PS4/PS5/Switch do
only when forced to by a motion control game
I feel like Mario Odyssey insisted on something like that at one point
it sounds gimmicky at first, but it's the closest to mouse you can get while still playing with a controller, especially with flick stick
(an optimized variant of the right stick for quick rotation)
oh I think I get what you mean now
it's basically a friction-less mouse
probably not, I don't think the USB controller I have comes with that kind of gyro
oooh now that you mention it I kept getting caught off guard by the Switch doing that in Zelda
gyro is cool
motion control in BOTW works in Cemu too, that caught me off-guard as well
would've been nice if they told me about it before I started "randomly" missing shots "for no reason"
but yeah, it has nearly no tutorials about it
I think at the time I literally concluded it was some kind of bug and just learned to hold the Switch against something during certain parts of the game
I remember seeing a Nerrel video about gyro aiming and seeing the steam controller in action for the first time
I really wanted one but by that time they were already discontinued

my brother has one, he kind of likes it but still prefers Xbox Elite most of the time
I have a lot of controllers since I need all of them for Godot testing... I've gotten a DualSense Edge recently because of this
If I had a gyro-capable controller, I'd actually probably use controllers for shooters, mouse still ofer way better precision but with gyro you can actually get really really close, plus unlike other motion control implementations gyro actually feels really natural to use
with the Switch 2 being out, I'll surely also get a Switch 2 Pro Controller once it has the tiniest amount of sale going for it
I ended up getting a gamesir xbox controller because it's the cheapest thing I found around here, luckily after I looked it up everybody kept saying how good it is for the price but the main drawback for a lot of people is that it's cable only, which for me isn't a problem at all (also the cable is really long)
but I guess using cables is just a flat no for a lot of people
I almost always use controllers wired for latency reasons
I always use a wired controller so I never have to worry about charging it separately
we are not the same
I come from the bygone era of sitting on the floor in front of the PS2 looking up at the TV because the cable wasn't long enough to reach the couch, so cables never bothered me
the only modern controller I'm still missing is a PS4 controller, but it's pretty legacy by now. Still used by lots of people
I have never held a PS4 controller in my hands
IIRC we dragged our PS2 to the middle of the floor so the controller would reach the couch
I remember doing that too
Cemu ?
Wii U emulator
it was basically the BOTW emulator at some point, its developer got lots of Patreon subscriptions because of it
it has decent compatibility and it's open source since 2022, so it still gets improvements
the Switch version of BOTW runs OK in emulators, but the Wii U version is less demanding to emulate and also a bit more stable
was Cemu left alone by the yuzupocalypse?
yeah, its developers never got in trouble
I do see a lot of people saying they prefer the DS4 over the DualSense, but I never really looked into why
the main thing Nintendo did was takedowns of YouTube videos showcasing BOTW multiplayer, which ran on Cemu
I remember the first time I saw a wireless PS3 controller, I had never seen a PS3 at all before and I remember thinking it was the most incredible thing ever
heh same, I also remember the debate around removed vibrations and Sony saying "vibrations are so 2000" as an excuse
the Xbox 360 was my introduction to wireless controllers
then vibrations were readded later due to heavy demand
I like the lack of cable, but constantly needing to recharge them wasn't worth it
oh the brutes are racist towards elites i guess
it's been long enough I don't remember how much was genuine racism and how much was the... uh... political context? I'm not sure what would be a spoiler atm
Johnson and Keyes just got the Index but then the Arbiter came in and kicked their asses and then Tartarus and friends came in and took Keyes (who has the Index) and said that they were going to end Arbiter's "puny race" or something like that
God I want to play this sooooo bad
ah, then yeah no spoiler risk
I think preexisting brute v elite sentiment had more to do with the elites being essentially in charge of the army, and brutes feeling like they should be instead, which came out pretty quick when Arby rebelled
but ofc that turns into "racism" pretty quick so lots of room for interpretation
ah
It's a good game, even tho it's pretty flawed and kind of grindy.
what the fuck does fatal error even mean
on its own, exactly what it sounds like
I like that unlike Conan Exiles, that had barely a coat of Conan paint on a pretty generic Survival Game, this one has A LOT of Dune poured into it.
is Conan Exiles the one with all the nude men
I think so
I mean there are a lot of survival games with that feature for some reason
nude and afrude
even Zelda has that feature
no Link has undies
oh you meant completely
no, that's his skin. Hylians are just like that
yes all those nude men are legit nude
have you seen Conan
with Arnie
IT SKIPPED THE CUTSCENE
ok i'll just go look on wikipedia
I MISSED A LOT ?????
The Arbiter meets the Master Chief in the bowels of the Halo, brought together by a Flood creature called the Gravemind. The Gravemind reveals to the Arbiter that the Great Journey is a lie, and sends the two soldiers to different places to stop Halo's activation. The Master Chief is teleported to High Charity as the Covenant falls into civil war.
i was watching a Halo 2 cutscene and the game did a fatal error and when i relaunched it
oh
no no Cap's been playing Halo the whole time
Gen's the only one talking about Dune afaik
Master Chief mind telling me what you're doing on Arrakis
sir, cultivating desert power
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-vdHpvoUJE seems to be this scene?
I don't remember the first thing about Halo lore so this is all mumbo jumbo to me
c'mon youtube are you serious
lol
there's probably a better version somewhere but this didn't seem worth watching several versions to compare
yeah, it's pretty critical to see most of this, but the gist is fine
plus I think this is the only time we straight-up see the Gravemind on screen, all of its other dialogue is telepathy to wherever you happen to be later
oh gist
oh
though it really likes the sound of its own telepathy
one of the few fails in Halo 3 is that it somehow gains the power to force you to walk slowly while it's telepathically yapping at you
also, i don't remember if i mentioned it yet but when i was playing as the Arbiter and sliding through a bunch of tunnel tube things in the Halo reminded me of in Empire Strikes Back when Luke jumps off the thing after fighting Vader and he slides through the tubes
oh yeah, there is some overlap there
haven't the bugs been in several levels by now
if they have i haven't noticed them til bow
maybe we're talking about different things
"bugs" in Halo makes me think of the flying green enemies, typically holding plasma pistols and showing up in huge swarms, first seen in the first level of Halo 2 where one of the diagonal elevators you need to wait for has a bunch of them guarding it
also one of the few situations the SMG is useful on higher difficulties
huh, that doesn't ring any bells for me
There are pests that can be found in the Covenant holy city High Charity.
On the three floors of the city's detention center there are what looks like small, yellow insects crawling around the place. The pests seem to slide on the floor and on the walls, and once anyone approaches one, it slides away. The origin of the pests is unknown, but they...
these apparently
they're only in this specific level
i have never seen these
this S rank method for this mission just so happens to also be a great farming method as well (when you hit a checkpoint all resources are sent to motherbase, so you can restart the mission for infinite tanks and sell for profit)
but also, it's very funny seeing the enemy go ''intruder detected, stay alert
'' as they slowly start getting helplessly fultoned up into the night sky one by one
whoaaa
Oh cool they put the reticle back in the right place for Halo 3
I remember in 2 it was way low on the screen
I also like "Heroism +500"
Is it worth the price though?
Depends, it's pricey, I have friends that really wanted to play this one so it's worth more for me , if I played it fully solo I probably would have waited for a discount.
I did hear that the endgame in particular is not in a good state, that said the journey to it is pretty solid
I don't have friends to play it with unfortunately
high charity is beautiful
decided to do some important research and oh my goodness there's a lot of Chief x Arbiter art
It's really funny, but I think it's because one of the platforms finished development right at the same moment
the really funny message you can get is this one though
i have to get this off my chest the brute plasma rifle looks like it shoots mountain dew code red
I mean, I'm pretty sure if they could've gotten away with it, back during the Halo 3 era, they totally would've made a custom skin for a gun that was Mountain Dew
MGS Peace Walker had Mountain Dew cosmetics
and that was in like 2011...
I don't know if that's still considered a gaming stereotype nowadays
Yeah its called Arby n the Chief
i rember when i was into geometry dash way back when
i only really was into it when i was at a single digit age, afterwards i only really played it if i was bored and had nothing better to do
what kart is that
circuit something
Circuit Special
lmao you can honk the horn even during the results screen
Now I kinda want to play MK
also during the multiplayer loading sequence (other karts will look at you when you do so)
what the fuck, i was 8th place and i suddenly jump to 5th at the last second
I'll take it, but damn
One down!... 23 to go
One point of getting a star tho
I don't remember Petey Piranha in MK8?
dlc characters are Petey, Kamek, Funky Kong, Pauline, Birdo, Diddy Kong
i think that's it
Chi-nu Type 3 main gun... Lots of work with only war thunder as reference
Because for some reason they modeled the interior
Well if they didn't I'm pretty sure the community would leak some sort of classified information to get them to
They can't risk going into a real chi-nu
The interior is probably lined with asbestos
There is 1 surviving Chi-Nu but theres no interior shots of it
all these tank pictures remind me of the fact that MGSV couldn't use real vehicles/weapons or their names due to licensing issues so every tank in the game and all the weapons have fictional names and are modified from their original appearance
so a character like Ocelot goes from using a Colt Single Action to a... ''Tornado-6 Revolver''
....and then he switches back to the Single Action later....
https://i.imgur.com/SeFXvsz.png Dear liege, unfortunately I cannot join you for merrymaking at this time because I fucking died between the time you sent me this letter and the time it arrived.
I'd rather games do that then buy the licensing tbh
wha the fuck, lmao

I think I’m getting the hang of Tomb Raider 2. It is much more difficult but it’s easier to distinguish where to go compared to the first one. Still a very hard game though.
Castlevania was good yes ?
not gonna have anything to do with duke nukem, you wait and see
just watch Evil Dead ??????
those are just live action Doom/Duke Nukem movies
this reminds me, I had Bulletstorm Full Clip Edition with the Duke Nukem DLC loaded up on my Ally, but sound was super glitchy
Castlevania was great, Devil May Cry was apparently shiiiiiiit.
It was just a generic action show with a few Devil May Cry characters slapped in that were nothing like their game counterparts
Anyways I beat Agni and Rudra in DMC3
It took me two tries and I had a sliver of health when I beat them
Ahahahaha I'm going crazy
beep beep
That's such a cute smile
What I keep hearing is Castlevania has nothing to do with the games either but people liked it enough that it now stands on its own completely, Castlevania game fans always seem to be mixed in whether they like it or not
DMC is awful all around, not good or interesting on its own at all and a terrible adaptation of the already good thing, there's just nothing there
tbf the Castlevania games rarely have more than five minutes of plot in them, there was never a world in which a Castlevania TV show would be a "direct" adaptation of one or even multiple games
IMO judging the show and judging any of the games are just wholly different topics with wholly different standards
(DMC ofc I can't speak to any version of)

I don't like the slippery pit

I do like the elevator clip
i also hate how enclosed it is

the exception being Big Boo's Haunt that level is good
Yeah
what do you think of Wet-Dry World
I don't like it because it's hard to explore
that's fair
It's probably in my bottom five. I like the gimmick but think they did it wrong
i like the underwater village a lot though
isn't it a similar gimmick to the water temple in OoT ?
loading screen?
Yeah, you can change water level by entering the painting differently
Which means you need to go through a loading screen
It's cool but it'd be cooler if there was no loading
what do you think of Rainbow Ride i know that's a very polarizing level
It was fine. I found it kind of nonmemorable
Not too frustrating. The magic carpet ride is cool but restrictive
Miyamoto never said that a rushed game is bad forever
This project is still a work-in-progress and has a rare crash for a small minority of users. Custom track import works however, all features are not yet supported.

yes grayclash, truly terrible happenings in our healer den. imagine someone doin that. (it was me, i did that)
What game is this?
so you mightve heard of warrior cats books. theres a fangame called clangen (clan generator) where you have your own clan. that spawned a bunch of mods, and one of them is lifegen, which is clangen but you also play as your own character. this is that one, enriched with hd sprites from another mod, mossmod.
It's always fascinating to see warrior cats fan because I literally never even heard of them before manechat, so I like, fail step 1 of context every time but it's always kind of interesting to see how dedicated people are to it.
the amount of "game" you actually get from this. well depends
you mostly watch the kitties do their thing thru heavy amounts of text. you can decide stuff like patrols, ships, apprentices, herbs stored, but u cant control stuff like when kits are born or who dies or such. its like. cat clan simulator lite™ ? most frequently ppl use it as basis of a story n then draw comics of their clans on tumblr
but its also fun to just read about them n get attached to some cats n then cry when they get hit by a car or are murdered by someone else in clan who hated their guts
or the blizzard™ hits and third of your clan freezes if you have that setting on

lol, yea kinda
though im pretty sure rimworld has more direct control (and i dont think it has that much reading whereas here its the main thing you do)
THE KITTIES YEARN FOR THE MINES
also gonna share my kitteh while we´re here and it truly is peak bringi style™
now that you mention it, Warrior Cats would be a perfect setting for a Rimworld total conversion mod
I was curious and I checked if it existed but it doesn't look like it
if i never have to play MK8 Rainbow Road again it'll be too soon
watching Vinny react to all the Smash Ultimate character reveals and i forgot how insane the "Everyone is Here" moment was

Yes, it is
And if you play with me you get to use all the DLC I got from a humble bundle (worth like 200 dollars)
That's how they make their money. Make tons and tons of content, parcel it out in expansions
They have a free to play game with the world and basic mechanics, as well expansions that add content, add different music, or just customizable graphics.
The Dark Ages might be drawing to a close, but Europe is still in turmoil. Petty lords vie against beleaguered kings who struggle to assert control over their fragmented realms. You do have to unlock them through special means even with all DLC (like clicking through a menu multiple times to unlock the secret animal world mode)

wow, a lot of people play this game?
i thought it had died out years ago tbh
yeah it's still ongoing! This is not the same as Toontown Rewritten, it's a different private server. It has more gameplay upgrades, better graphics out of the box, etc
it has fewer players but I find it more fun since it's more challenging, less grindy, etc
I started playing in March this year
glad to see it's still got good player counts and is getting new content from the fan-devs

I did not mean to post that here
And somewhere in the bottom third of the state is Denzy and Poppy.
why did i think you lived in like
Florida or Georgia
I did live in Florida. Moved up here a few years ago.
the best area for racing!
Help, the pyramid I inherited is killing my courtiers as they try to explore it, because it thinks I conquered it instead of inheriting it https://i.imgur.com/ySEWQ4B.png
I lost my super expensive scholar-bureaucrat from China
As someone who lives on one of the smallest countries in south america, the idea that someone can casually say they moved from Florida to Illinois is pretty crazy

It's like me saying I moved from where I currently live to Salta in Argentina just casually
I've moved from Houston to Honolulu to Houston to Albuquerque to Boise, and I'm planning on moving again to somewhere in New England.
Wow, that's a huge upgrade
I don't know how you guys do it, the distances are so massive between places there and every state feels so different it'd be like living in a completely different country for me
Going from the capital all the way up to the other corner of the country in Artigas is like a 5-6 hour 600km drive here which I feel like in most states it would probably not even be halfway the distance of the average state
You have to understand that like 80% of the States is just nature and empty road, with some small towns here and there to restock on gas.
Longest travel I did here was when I was a kid going pretty much almost all the way to Brasil and that was like a 5 hour drive
States are like different countries in terms of things like economics and culture and it was actually kind of designed that way
It's the United States, with states as in nation-states, but no state in the United States can call itself a nation state
I mean, to be fair, most of my country is also just nature and empty roads, the rural population is very low, it's like 5% out of 3 million
but unfortunately our nature is just grass and fields and a ridiculous amount of cows so we don't get any cool mountains or canyons or giant forests or anything
just grass and cows and horses
that's the midwest
ok we have some forests i guess
but like iowa is mostly corn and cows
That's what I mean, I would feel so out of place if I moved as frequently as I have here but in the US, at least assuming most people move outside of their own state frequently at all, I don't actually know that
idk how common it is, but I myself moved to Pennsylvania, from Ohio
good choice I'd say
That's pretty close by though, to be fair, but the distance is still massive
So, I just saw a 24-player race on Mario Kart World. It is insanity. You get hit by a single red shell in 1st place and you get knocked down aaaaall the way down to 24th.
also, it’s not like we stop at every state in between when we do one of these moves
my move to the UK was a whole thing, but probably no more of a headache than all these state to state moves

I have the spam bypass roll, why isn't this working? I only have three line breaks in it.
that’s actually hitting Discord’s auto mod instead of Izzy
try breaking it into multiple messages, that was a pretty huge wall of text either way
Alright
I...hesitate to say this, but I honestly think Mario Kart World lost the plot a bit. It's waaaaay too unbalanced, in every conceivable way. Not only that, but the 24-player races just don't look nearly as fun as Mario Kart 8's. Chaotic and fast-paced, sure, but that unbalanced nature and the fact that all of your hard work to get up to the front can be undone by a single red shell and you can simply never recover from it just feels cheap.
Also, while the game looks fantastic and far superior to MK8 visually, its course design is...kinda bland and uninspired overall, with only a few really strong highlights (though the Rainbow Road track for World is easily the best in the franchise, holy shit). They utterly butchered Wario Stadium, Desert Hills, and Choco Mountain, and instead of properly remaking Airship Fortress with new mechanics or new routes, they just made a 1-to-1 rehash with some grind rails. Again, uninspired. I'm glad they finally brought it back, but man did they do it dirty.
And then there's the decision to force the players into the long stretch races before you do only a single lap on the main course. It made the grand prixs feel less like grand prixs and more like world tours, which you can already do in free roam anyway.
Mario Kart World, to me, feels more like an open-world touring/exploration game with racing elements to it, whereas MK8 feels more like a proper, dedicated racing game. MK8's course design is tight, technical, and requires a fair amount of skill. World's course design is expansive and visually stunning, but suffers from a lack of anything really interesting in your path. It's mostly just long, wide stretches of road with very few set pieces, obstacles, or alternate pathways (some courses like Boo Cinema and Acorn Heights do it a lot better and take advantage of all the new mechanics, but most don't).
Maybe things will get better over time, but right now, MK8 just feels like the better racing game, even if it's not as visually stunning or frantic.
Finally
only a single lap on the main? tf
In regular grand prix mode, yes
In versus mode, it's "sometimes"
In versus it randomizes whether you do three to four laps on the main course, or you do an extremely long, empty, and rather dry stretch of road before doing just one lap.
but the music 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Oh yeah, I did neglect to mention the music
The music is FIRE
Massive step up from MK8, and MK8's music was also amazing.
what are some songs there you like the most
The last mario kart game is on the switch though right? I imagine if anyone didn't like this game they could always jump back into the last one, which I assume still gets enough players to fill some matches
I mean I guess it sucks if you've already played hours of it and you're tired of it but still, I guess the change in direction is why they called it MK World and not MK whatever the next number is
Whistlestop Summit and Faraway Oasis are two of my favorites.
Rainbow Road
im trying not to spoil myself too much
but from Dunkey's vid it seems that a song from almost every mainline mario is in the game (obv with new arrangements)
I mean, there's still a very dedicated fanbase for Smash Melee and Smash Brawl, even though Smash Ultimate exists.
Sorry about that. Discord thought all of it at once was "suspected spam content"
wasn't one of our filters
No worries, not your fault
It's Discord being dumb

(Especially since, again, I've sent way longer messages than that, lol.)
Huh, apparently I'm not alone in thinking the game is unbalanced. Reddit is full of posts saying how frustrated they are with the game and how impossible it is to play online. Apparently getting hit six times in a row without being able to recover or move from the same spot is considered "normal"
I've seen a few posts about people posting videos of themselves on the lead only to get blasted by 15 different shells and bombs at the last possible moment and end up last
but I thought that was just the meta since I don't play mario kart
That would've been extremely rare and unlucky in past Mario Kart games, but in World it's just an average race.
And because you now have physics with your hit (some hits are more devastating than others, and you can even minimize the damage some of them do like with bullet bills), sometimes it takes you like five whole seconds to flip your car and continue driving, when before it was a set animation.
that sounds kinda cool on paper, but i can imagine it would be rage inducing in practice
It is both
I just saw a streamer get hit like 8 times in a row, wasn't able to move even an inch forward. Never recovered from it.
When people (Sonic fans) started saying it I thought it was just massive cope, but I wonder if the sonic racing game might actually give MK a little competition here considering World seems to prioritize the openness of it more than the racing
But because the races can now be 24-players, instead of the karting happening to just one or maybe two people, it happens to everyone.
So you can have someone go from 1st to 24th to 2nd to 24th again in the span of like six seconds.
And that just...isn't fun, imo.
But you can ride on the walls now!
/s
It was actually one of the few criticisms that journalists had for World, that it emphasized the open world touring over the actual racing.
Like, don't get me wrong, World is still an awesome game, but it's not as good as MK8 when it comes to actual racing, at least not yet. There's a lot of kinks that need to be ironed out first (and at least one course designer who needs to be fired for butchering Choco Mountain the way they did, because WOW it's bad).
Legendary
I love how he just gave up at that point
Just let it happen and just stopped after he finally got put back on the bridge the second time.

I play Mario with the super mario sunshine costume
the one with the hawaiian shirt and sunglasses ? that's a good one
I'M FAST AS FUCK BOI
CoD is rarely on significant sale, this applies to old games in the franchise too
old Battlefields are a much better deal in comparison
Hm I see
Also damn...
What is even in this update
We don't even know
Rubberbanding: Allow us to introduce ourselves.
I'm not sure how prone MK8D is to rubberbanding
it was a big issue in older Mario Karts
wedd
people are noticing it again now that MK64's PC port is out
ayyy i remember Mario Kart DS
Nintendo Ninjas: "They WHAT?"

it's a very different story from say, the Link's Awakening DX PC port, which was shut down in a week (since it didn't require the original ROM to run)
Hytale was cancelled. https://hytale.com/news/2025/6/a-difficult-update-about-hytale
what is hytale?
Minecraft-style game made by Hypixel owners
I am pretty surprised, it seems a ton of effort and money went into it
yeah, didn't they get picked up by Riot?
HUH???????
culture has become cursed

Congratulations HC
o shit
I feel bad for the people who actually got invested in its development
same, game cancellations always hurt to see
they would hurt a bit less if developers were allowed to release their unfinished work, but it's very unlikely to happen in an official capacity
(JohnnyLeaker69420 to the rescue?)
Minecraft really was a lightning in a bottle. Cube World and now this…
its my fave in MK8D
I... don't really play racing games, like at all
Most amount of time I've spent on a racing game was prolly SRB2K, and even then prolly only for like, 30-40 hours
fair enough. I enjoyed wipeout, but there's no high graphic PC equivalent as far as I'm aware. Ballistic NG exists, but is a retro sort of game
I suppose there's redout?
but that's a different kind of game even though it's an AG racer
I have thousands of hours on Trackmania over 20 years
racing games are in my top 3 favorite genres
how is burnout paradise Talc?
Idr, it was like 5 years ago
I never win racing games cus all my irl friends are gods amongst men at racing games
okay holy shit Mute City is STRESSFUL
And playing a racing game solo feels kinda sad to me in all honesty
why? That's like saying Doom 2016 is sad because you fight AI lol
(Primarily cus I'd lose to the ai there too)
I'm bad at racing games
I've played Mario kart a fair amount amongst friends, and I have never won a single round
Sure, but isn't it more important whether you had fun during the racing? as opposed to just winning?
Well if that's the case i lose anyways
same here haha
I mean, depends how technical you want to get I suppose. I know there are different styles of player, maybe winning is just important for you to enjoy things, idk how you work.
there's a really good article on some psycographics of players by the MtG folks
what are those?
I don't care for winning that much, but I'd like to at least get a win every once in a while
And not winning once feels kinda demoralizing
that's fair. What sort of games do you enjoy more?
Roguelikes and fighting games
WHEEEEEEE
oh nice! What sort of roguelikes? there's so many available these days
flashes pfp take a guess
ummm... no idea
it was Bowser's special item in Double Dash iirc
tboi
I'm an Isaac fanboy myself
easy to play, hard to master
only 4 buttons required during gameplay
both keyboard and controller viable, even at top level
ah neat! it's a fun game, though for some reason in recent years I don't enjoy issac any more haha.
That's fair Calinou
the online multiplayer update breathed new life into the game for me
I've started playing FH4 last week during vacation, I have yet to play it online
I am mostly a singleplayer person for all those AAA games, I tend not to interact with online features unless I have to
also lately I've been sucked into pokerogue
that's taken up my life for the past... 9 months I'd say
oh damn, if you're into pokemon, i've seen how that game becomes a black hole hahah
there's so many layers to that one
funny you mention that, cus I got one in an earlier run
literally
H O L E
heh, amazing
did Gardevoir make that
nah, ||Eternatus did||

resets the "days since war thunder leaked classified data" to zero
I really need to know how the fanbase of war thunder keeps getting their hands on classified information
i think its more that the game attracts those that have access to that stuff
ah yes, the ones who have access to it, as well as being petty as shit
er, petty might be the wrong word

a lot of people in the military end up having access to this sorts of information, I imagine. And probably civilian contractors as well, to a degree
it's a bit like how there's no security (really) on the computers of the Enterprise-D.... the only people who should be on the ship are trusted
Bruh did Bayo just Witch Time my fucking PILL?
It’s not actually that common. Common enough that people won’t look at you weird, but only about 20% of workers move from one metropolitan area to another in a decade.

:c I’ve gotten burnt out on Minecraft and it’s constrained that exist for a variety of reasons, and I was hoping this would be an answer. I guess not
no, vintage story is very different to mc, i don't think it's a replacement
its minecraft but with much more in-depth mechanics
Vintage Story devs plant another £5 in Mega's account
look i love the game
If it makes sense, I wish Minecraft carried on its progression with new ores, tools, armor, and dimensions + more complex stuff instead of its weird updates where they add a single mob and maybe a biome
modern minecraft is wide, not deep
I wonder, did you ever try modded MC rad?
there's a lot of depth there to add, if that's what you're after
And half the time the mobs are absolutely mid. And then their design and mechanics don’t feel like they fit the ethos of expanding creativity and the sandbox
I have but it’s a pain dealing with modded Minecraft
I’m low time low patience with games so I rarely mod them
that's fair I suppose. Launchers make it easier, but it's still time consuming
Create and relevant mods are so cool though
My main struggle now is thirty fucking million keybinds
is there a particular mod that requires a lot of keybinds?
oh actually
Terraria, have you played/seen that game?
it's 2d, but it has that progression gameplay
and good boss fights
No, but a lot of mod packs today like to feature a lot of mods. I might check out terraria but I like 3d
what would you want from minecraft these days?
Guess I’m getting vintage story soon
terraria is fantastic but there is significantly more combat in it than MC
Sandbox plus some deeper mechanics for farming and crafting and exploration
oh
Most of what I did in Minecraft was strip mine and build castles and towers
yeah you want VS lol
wait, did we lose our colour? F
And I wish there were more advanced mechanics for NPCs and automation and farming and stuff
VS has farming that requires you to manage nutrients in the soil, if you want good deposits of ore you have to prospect around and look for high deposits, forcing exploration
and some plants dont grow in some biomes! you want to find every type of crop? you gotta explore south to the equator where its hot, nor north where its cold
I"d recommend watching a bit of someones early playthrough of VS or a review etc, just so you know what you're getting into with it. Game is... obtuse?
thats not a bad idea tbf

have any of you guys played Far Cry 3 if so is it any good ?
No
oh
not yet but I plan to, I often hear it's the best modern Far Cry game in the series
(modern as in, "any game after Far Cry 2")
OG Far Cry is basically proto Crysis
that's what ive always heard too
Far Cry 2 is very much its own thing
which ones have you played ?
and Far Cry 3 and later are the Ubisoft tower formula
I've only played the first one
I'm playing Just Cause 2 these days, which turns 15 this year
it still looks quite good today, although the HUD was clearly designed for 720p displays so it's pretty blurry at 4K
I love Just Cause 2

that reminds me... I've done my part: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/w/index.php?title=Just_Cause_2&type=revision&diff=1608118&oldid=1581544
I stumbled upon this issue while moving my setup from the Ally X to the desktop PC
the desktop PC ran a lot worse than the Ally (!), because of a single setting 🙂
i think i'm gonna try Cyberpunk again

I also moved Forza Horizon 4 over and it runs butter smooth
for a 6.5 year old game, it still looks pretty impressive
the rainy UK setting certainly does the heavy lifting, it's easier to make it look good compared to sunnier weather
Far cry 3 as far as I can remember was fun. I very much bounced off 2, it just felt off. But I don't really remember the story for either. In hindsight, 4 and 5 are definitely very formulaic, though I think 5 was much better than 4. The story stands out very much and is actually quite disturbing in a "y'know, this doesn't feel far fetched" type of way
i know 4 has the famous ending where you can just wait for Pagan Min to come back at the very beginning
I think 5 also did similar, actually
This one being 5
(especially nowadays it feels extremely relevant...)
Every FarCry since 3 has had the "technically beat it in 15 minutes" thing
oooh yeah
very Branch Davidians lol
well i might try out 3 since it's on sale rn
same with 5 those are the two that interest me
It was relevant when it was first released and is even more relevant today.
the cult flag above the US good grief lmao
Say what you will about the gameplay, but holy crap the villains in that game are genuinely creepy and quite possibly the most realistic ones of the entire franchise.
Because people like them do exist.
Look closely at the stars on the US flag.
Spoilers for multiple FarCry games:
FarCry 4 - ||Wait 15 minutes in the room Pagan Min tells you to wait in, he returns and you scatter your mother's ashes together.||
FarCry 5 - ||Wait long enough (I think also 15 minutes) and don't arrest Joseph and you and the other police officers leave, commenting that you will only be killed if you went through with the arrest.||
FarCry 6 - ||Actually have to play for about an hour through the prologue stuff but once you secure a boat you can choose to sail right the fuck to Miami where you are then seen relaxing on a beach while a news story plays on a radio about the civil war in Yara escalating.||
oh my god haha
this image is so unsubtle i love it
the last one is kinda hilarious
You say that, and yet there are, ahem, "certain people" who just didn't get that the game was talking about them.
"fuck this i'm going to Miami"
Totally fair, lol. I would too, if it wasn't in Florida.
Miami is one of the more... tolerable areas of Florida
On the one hand, fight a civil war. On the other hand...Florida. Tough call.
Occasionally in FC6 you hear propaganda speeches from the dictator that sound way too fucking familiar
One about "tolerance being a poison" stands out to me
"Sin of empathy" and all that

My brother in christ hytale got canceled before silksong
12 years of development
i was gonna make a snarky comment like "rip the minecraft killer" but didn't know how to make it sound less snarky
I am just like
How in the actual fuck in 12 years and unlimited riot games money
They did not manage to pull out at least a playable beta of this thing
yeah we never got a demo or anything did we ?
they should have done the MC strat of releasing the game and then adding features through updates
If they had released absolutely anything, a pre-alpha or anything
They would not have been cancelled
The fuck they been doing for 12 years
Money laundering? I dunno
did they start in 2013 ? wikipedia says it started development in 2015
The trailer itself, is 6yo

Hytale combines the scope of a sandbox with the depth of a roleplaying game, immersing players in a procedurally generated world where teetering towers and deep dungeons promise rich rewards throughout their adventure...
I thought Hypixel Studios was receiving only a small amount of money from Riot, and they didn't have the authority to shut it down
In July 2024, Hytale's developers reported that the game was being migrated to a new engine, a process that was expected to be complete by the end of the year.
man what
They started to develop the game in java
Then they migrated to c++
That is probably what killed the game
Having to start pretty much from 0
11 years into development is the best time to do a full pivot
I need to say, this sounds like horrible management
Please netflix make a documentary out of this
We need the story
Someone cant just work on someone for a decade and not having a hell story to tell
man the Descent:Underground kickstarter I backed over 10 years ago is still "in development" by a whole new team
a team that nobody trusts at all
I got mentioned in an article about the early access game back in 2015. I swear it was about 6 months away at that point, and then it just ... never got closer. https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/10/descent-underground-recaptures-that-descent-multiplayer-magic/
original devs got really caught up in some nonsense that was making the gameplay worse for no reason, community lost momentum, they brought in a shady publisher for funding, the shady publisher kept trying to change the scope (we later found out they did that with all of their projects to force breaches so they could cheaply buy them out), eventually the shady publisher lost a court case and then lost multiple followup cases, and the publisher ended up buying out the game at a relatively fair rate. And now they don't know what they're doing to finish it.
Aaaaand there she goes!
"Minecraft killer" my ass.
It is a shame though, I was hoping they'd release a lot more of the soundtrack. It was rather nice.
Anyway play vintage story

I suppose they wanted to migrate because of console support
(if your game uses Java, that more or less guarantees it'll never be able to run on a console)
Riot has been investing more in console support lately (e.g. Valorant), so it kind of checks out
true, though at that point isn't it far easier to use an existing engine with console support than to have to write the console-specific code in any language?
yes, by far
creating a console port for an existing PC-only engine is a ton of work, especially for Playstation where there is no standard graphics API you can use
That's a good one!
New MetaQuest

do they expect users to...stream games on their xbox VR headset? Or is there more to it?
yes
i like how you can just tell how two of my smash mains are almost the complete opposite thing

steam summer sale is soon
SNES Rainbow Road is my favorite track of all timr
will Deltarune go on sale?
The game officially came out less than a month ago, I don't think it'll be on sale
Then again, Toby Fox is Toby Fox
Is it just me, or are the third and fourth chapters of Deltarune not getting nearly as much attention or hype as the previous two?
Like, I've heard absolutely nothing about them, but Spamton was all over the Internet instantly.
Tbf, the newer chapters are a lot longer
I think all it needs is just some more time to blow up to the previous chapters hype
A lot of people are probably in the same boat as me that they havent played it yet because of the awkward launch time

it topped the steam charts and had over 100,000 concurrent players when 3+4 came out lol
Yet I've heard nothing
I'm waiting for the game to come out
could depend on where you go to, and the likelihood of exposure
what spaces do you usually look at, other than this server? (especially since everything deltarune is contained in the respective thread)
I check Reddit very often. Barely a peep from any of the gaming subreddits.
Huh. while I myself dont rly visit general gaming subs (they can be such cesspools)
i just use more specific places, like the deltarune subreddit
but it does kinda seem like Ch.3-4 arent quite as big/influential as Ch.2, but the community still seems rather active despite that
I hear a fair amount about it in furry circles; other than that, I don't see a lot of mentions of it
maybe because for many people, Deltarune felt like it was out already? I'm just guessing
its development has been ongoing for almost 7 years now, so maybe some people along the way dropped
player counts aren't strictly related to hype/media attention, if you look at Steam's top games, you'll regularly see popular games that you don't hear a lot about
(and the opposite, when a game garners attention for all the wrong reasons)
I think it could also be due to the nature of games that come out in chapters or parts, it'll get a bit of attention at launch but the following chapters won't make as big of a splash as the earlier ones (regardless of quality)
it's weird how often we have to keep reminding people that news/media coverage and player counts are only weakly realted
I think there's a decent chance for the final part to get higher coverage, and also pull in all the players who were turned off by an "unfinished" game, but yeah by the time that happens most potential players will already be aware the thing exists so there's not as much to say about it, especially without spoilers
I still haven't started playing Undertale
Yeah it's still in development
For part 7 they will have a Homestuck crossover where you join forces to fight Five Nights at Freddy's characters
r/gaming does suck a lot
indeed, part of the dynamic is that after a thing has reached its audience, that audience makes its own spaces to discuss the thing, so people not already seeking it out naturally stop hearing about it
another part is that most of us do not discuss every single game or show we engage with; unless you've been watching me on Steam you probably don't know I've been steadily chipping away at Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night the last week or so
Only the remarkable games
oh my goddd this level is so hard in Halo 2
do you have any idea how little that narrows it down
it's the last one i think
Me when I played every level starting from the middle of the game
it has a bunch of banshees and you have to escort the big scarab
ah, yes that's the last one
and that escort part is very near the end of it
IME the banshee parts are mostly a test of caution/patience; you can pick off everything from a safe distance away but it's not exactly obvious how close is too close to allow the AI to gang up on you
so is there a reason 343 Industries decided to name themselves after the bad guy
i know they're halo studios now which fits a lot better
i read that Bungie based Guilty Spark's personality on See Threepio which is interesting
I can see that
also i'm now realizing that Stampy (a yter i watch) named two of his Minecraft dogs after Halo characters. The Arbiter and Guilty Bark (which is hilarious)
I mean, I don't hang out in gaming subreddits either (I don't even post on Reddit anymore, just browse it), but sometimes they hold gaming news and that's what I check for.
you can
Elites in general are stupidly tall by human standards
MASTER CHIEF SAID THE THING
though it's easy to miss if you spend all your time looking at a Spartan like MC
"finish the fight"?
man, that was such an insane marketing campaign at the time
one of the few times I was 100% on board with the hype and (this is gonna sound ridiculous to you younguns but) 100% rewarded for it
THAT WAS THE END ????
standard trilogy rules: 1 wraps up everything neatly because they don't know if there will ever be a 2, but 2 and 3 get greenlit together so 2 has a free pass to be all setup and resolve absolutely nothing
(ftr 3 does resolve everything)
Star Wars style i suppose
also a lot of other movie and game trilogies
imagine if they never made any more movies after Empire and it was just left on that cliffhanger
that would suck
They messed this formula up royally with 4, 5, and Infinite.
tbf 4 and 5 arguably are following it, it's more like Infinite said "nah, let's throw all that out and start over"
.......did i miss something important ? Chief ended 2 on a ship but 3 starts with him falling from the sky
