There's a reason Dark Souls started a genre
Yes because it's my favorite
You should play it on archipelago
https://bsky.app/profile/arti-party.bsky.social/post/3lbmh5htqxs27 nah it says so on bluesky
you can play it on AP if you want to play 40% of the game
I want to! But I also want to do a regular "blind" playthrough of it, because it's been so long
its not close to being finished
Oh I thought he meant ootmm
I know that's not actually archipelago
(personally I bounced hard off of Dark Souls long before I had "tools" to use/experiment with, but "use every tool" is valid and important advice for Elden Ring at least)
Well we own Dark Souls on Switch. Maybe I'll play it tonight
No, the recompilation of Majora's Mask is on archipelago, minus these checks:
- Tingle
- Oceanside Gold Skulltulas
- Shop Items
- Moon Children Trials Heart Pieces
- Snowhead/Great Bay/Ikana
And the other three dungeons```
i always start off a dark souls game with a quality build (str/dex) with a mindset to experiment with different types of weapons, but i always end up resorting to hammers/sticks
so 60% of the game is missing
No dungeons 💀
I am fine with that because the dungeons fucking suck
one of these days I want to try some Nine Sols bosses on "level 0" / with no upgrades, which is probably the equivalent of doing SL1 melee-only no summon or whatever it's called in DS/ER/etc
Nope you are nitpicking and biased
Archipelago?
Woodfall peak snowhead peak
Archipelago is a multi-game randomizer system
Hell yeah
many of us have been playing AP randomizers together in #1119170161518334004
It's a program that connects randomizers together and makes one game's items show up in another
We play a game every month, and will start December's game today
yeah, my experience is nearly every game that "has dozens of weapons" or "millions of builds" or whatever has just one obviously most fun way to play, or at least most fun for me, so I long since gave up ever doing these kinds of playthroughs
(the rare exceptions are often all-time favorite games)
Yeah if you're Ixrec my advice would be to not play it.
...actually, maybe my advice is still to play it. You might develop Stockholm syndrome!
or you could just play a good game like Hollow Knight
See that's the one I bounced off of
it's weird that everyone seems to bounce off a different subset of these, and I can never figure out clear reasons for it
It was pretty good, I just got kinda bored at one point and then when I came back I forgot what I was doing and forgot about the game
Genryu had a theory that I don't like the 3D ones, but then Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor were great (and that doesn't explain most of my problems with DS1, only maybe some of my problems with Sekiro)
It's weird because there's an appeal to games like those that make me want to play them but I feel I'd just get frustrated playing them
So I'm always on the fence
oh, I wouldn't call that "bounced off"
For me it's just that I am not in the mood and can't muster the patience. I came back to Hollow Knight after a few years and loved it too
that's usually the polite way of saying "I had an awful experience for reasons that were pretty clearly the game's fault and consciously chose to stop playing it"
Like I loved Metroid but got bored with Super Metroid
Oh
im in the quit playing hollow knight after 2 hours in 2017 and came back in 2023 and loved it boat
tbf Super is one of the weaker Metroids these days
I just meant that I stopped playing it after not getting too far
they just kept improving
which is funny because that's the only Metroid I bounced off of, mostly because of its NES-ness rather than its Metroid-ness
(also because the password system literally didn't work for me)
I'm not sure if I've tried 3 NES games so I guess I agree lol
Yeah the password system was rough
Hell yeah we stay winning
I probably would've at least finished it if the passwords not working hadn't deleted all my progress
but since it already had a great remake it didn't seem terribly important
definitely would nowadays, at the time I tried it I believe it was the bonus feature in Metroid Prime 1?
but also why play NES Metroid over Zero Mission (or Fusion or Dread or the Primes...)
It just hits different
Simplicity or nostalgia
well yeah "NES nostalgia" is the easy answer but obv only applies to specific people
I think it's more than that. The vibe is genuinely more mysterious and ominous
more mysterious and ominous than ZM? (I get that compared to the others that had more text and explicit story and stuff)
I am biased tho, I do have big NES nostalgia
i remember playing metroid fusion on gba! i think its the only metroid i played lmao
Yep
agree to disagree then
I love agreement 🤝
i disagree
(i have no idea what this conversation has been about, just making a joke)
I disagree with kratta and agree with mega
I disrespectfully agree
I think by industry standards, this is the closest to what people think is "adventure". Though that graphic should've listed it more as "action adventure" than adventure, imo
Zoomers aren't playing point and click adventures?
Doesn't CaptainMario play those?
yeah, point-and-clicks are more of a millenial thing imo since they peaked in popularity when I was pretty young and when more mechanically complex genres couldn't yet compete with their production values
the last time I brought up Myst outside of this server the zoomers said they'd never heard of it
(not that there aren't a bunch of good indie point-and-clicks today)
what's a famous example of point and click adventure?
i dont think i've heard of that genre before
Myst
Monkey Island, Broken Sword
Leisure Suit Larry
Grim Fandandgo, Day of the Tentacle, King's Quest, Deponia
Deponia is the newest by far
Junk, junk and even more junk. Life on the trash-planet Deponia is anything but a walk in the park. No surprise that Rufus had enough of that and hatches one ludicrous plan after the other to escape this bleak place. When Rufus, on one of his attempts to leave Deponia behind, meets Goal, he not only falls madly in love with the beautiful girl fro...

I guess Disco Elysium counts
Ghost Trick, Case of the Golden Idol, Chants of Sennar are some point and click games that got popular recently
oh wait i think ive played a demo for one of these types of games on the xbox 360 back in the day
ive played a few yeah
Gabriel Knight!
Never heard of that series
tbf I haven’t played most of what Flitter just listed even though I’ve heard of them
(I started Grim Fandango once but got stuck)
deponia was pretty cool, i only played the first two but i enjoyed them
i own 3
just never got around to it
I wanted to get Grim Fandango when I was shopping on GOG for some stuff since it was like one dollar but I didn't end up doing it because I wasn't really sure if I'd actually get around to playing it
while I was at it I also found out there's apparently a Blade Runner point and click adventure game and it's apparently pretty good too
It looked pretty interesting
Yeah, we both do actually but we seem to be outliers there
I played Myst on my DS when I was a young lad
i'm sorry to hear
My only exposure to Myst is a pony fic
Myst is badass
have you played Space Quest 1-3
Myst
Mystia
Nope
so im on another bout of stardew valley (i really enjoy this game but always for like. one in-game year n then i fall off so i just make a new save next time pfffft) and ive been scourging the mods, of course, as is usual, and i finally found it. my dream mod (i figured i should share here in case someone else dabbles in smapi) https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/8505 . it shows you in-game everythin you could need about heart events, location, npc, time of the day... i get. so worried ill miss heart events since theyre legit my favorite part of the game, i had full out notes and everything, i considered makin an excel thats how dire things are. but now i can just get all that stuff easily! it also tells you if you already did the event or not! as the kids would say, absolutely based
Ah nice, I love autotrackers
from what I understand, you can't actually miss heart events, they just go on an indefinite hiaitus until the next time you visit that location. (You can miss birthdays, festivals, etc. that are on a fixed date, and of course not complete quests on time.)
unless that changed in 1.6, untrue actually, there are (or at least were) a few skippable ones. an easy example on top off my head is clint if you have high hearts with emily first, or sam´s 3 hearts on only year 1
its not a big problem i grant you, but i also really like this from a checklist aspect
the itty bitty "seen:yes" fills me with serotonin
I just used the wiki, but having it all in-game at a glance is fantastic.
see i dont have two monitors so the wiki method is annoying even if i do that often in games
hence why im also fan of stuff like ui info suite 2 and lookup anything and alike
Got my 2024 year in review this is from it. Most played were Witcher 3, FC24 and Stardew Valley
that IS useful
ahh, I did not know there were actually any skippables
#RDR2- Uncle constantly complaining about his lumbago and how it'll kill him is so funny

How'd you get this?
Make some time for Grim Fandango. Still my favorite game of all time
Maybe if I happen to catch it on a sale that good again, I won't lie and say I'm huge on adventure games but I'm no stranger to them (the old Spongebob PC adventure game was one of my favourites as a kid and probably introduced me to the genre entirely) and Grim Fandango seems like one of those timeless masterpiece games that every single person should know about so I am interested in checking it out, I remember hearing about it all the time before but never really bothering to look it up so if I do play it it'll be fully blind, I don't even know what it's about
I ended up taking advantage of that sale and got a bunch of cheap Star Wars goodies, some Warhammer stuffthat I've been meaning to check out, and Zelda but with vampires (Blood Omen)
speaking of adventure games I also apparently own a Blacksad game that I think I yoinked for free one time
I don't even know what this is about but hey, maybe one day I'll see what it's all about, seems good enough to give it a go
oh yeah, pretty sure that's a noir detective drama
On Xbox dashboard there was a new tile, And I pressed it and there was QR code to scan and it opened browser on phone and had to log into Microsoft account and I did and it displayed various stats from this year. And ping me always if you want, I could have missed your message
Ok
It's a shame blacksad: under the skin turned out to be a good game while backbone turned out bad
Because the second one looks amazing and the first is downright ugly in comparison

Oh hello short red hair Juri, she's acts way crazier than I thought she would looking at her
I kinda thought these two had come out already, unfortunately I don't play KOF, I wish I could because it always had cool characters but I'm iffy about team fighters
I didn't even remember when the game came out so I thought that they wouldn't be doing more content for this game with the new fatal fury around the corner, I didn't know they were gonna support two games at once
I'm not against it though
I would not be surprised if they are the final characters for the game
also Vice plays more akin to a grappler than akin to juri's playstyle
I meant more her attitude I didn't expect her to act so crazy, up until now I hadn't really seen what she was like at all
I remember the characters from before but I was very young when I played KOF as a kid so all that is just a blur completely
I haven't had time (or haven't made time) to jump back in to some fighting games as of late, I think the last time I played some Strive was in April
but I know there was a new patch for SF6 so I should maybe check it out, and of course Dizzy is in Strive now too, there was a crazy patch for it too I heard people are a bit upset about some changes
yeah, that's true, I don't play strive or listen to people who play it so I have no idea

jesus christ
fair enough, have fun playing?
a friend and I got way farther in Calamity mod Terarria than we ever thought we could
oh whoa, I don't know calamity, but isn't DoG quite far in in terms of bosses?
there's only like, 3-4 more bosses ahead of us
and only 2 are needed for us to say "we finished calamity"
...we're not gonna be able to get thru those bosses tho
yeah, i got a little burnt out by the gameplay towards the end but the story was absolutely incredible all the way through, maybe the best ive ever played
oh wow, nicely done Talc.
Ah sweet Cap, that's good to hear
It's a long game right?
damn!
the longplay is real
I think I'd go mad trying to get thru a game that had an over 100 hour playthrough
i bought Baldur's Gate 3 recently but i might take a break from the super long games
also i wanna play something that's lighter on story lol i still need to digest all of rdr2
Calamity is quite surprisingly doable if you know what's going on, especially when coop
probably will continue my Dark Souls 3 playthrough
Me and my friend finished it a few times at this point and now we play too efficiently that we are barely stuck
My friend and I have very little clue what we are doing
Also there is a very...cheesy thing you can do in lategame calamity coop
Around Yharon iirc
Rule of thumb in terraria coop is "don't die together"
honestly, idk if we're gonna get to yharon
I can give you multiple tips and guides if you need, but it may be better playing blind if you prefer that way
Me and my freind are both min-max type players so we always had wiki open
we had the wiki open as well, but we just get... lost in choices on what to do with our character
Have you played vanilla terraria a lot?
I have not, my friend has
I've gotten thru the game like, twice all the way through
It's much simpler if you understand how Terraria works
Key is to always have a set of gears as a goal, and then use that to clear next boss
This guide is intended to list viable options for players depending on their progression stage and the class they've chosen. Think of this guide as a menu - there are many options to choose from, and you should try out different things to see which work best for you.
This page is always my best friend
well we do have a good idea on the gar, but that isn't the whole story
we just... kinda suck at dodging
there's no way around it (hehe)
Well then, one is to make yourself more tanky with accessories, alway have best healing potions, and importantly: die alone
By making the boss fight a tag match, it gets significantly easier to handle

my friend is doing a melee build, so they often face tank more than me (range class user)
so we're often pretty distant from each other
My friend always plays the summoner build, so I tried ranged/magic/melee
They all work, but in different ways, so it def requires getting used to the build
Silva armor (post-DoG armor for magic/summon) is broken in coop, you can cheese the game so easily
At least frost moon pumpkin moon solar eclipse are all events that don't end after death so you can grind without worrying too much
I can probably give more specific personal advices but that's probably too far
Once played a game (anno 1800) for 241 hours, and ghost of tsushima for 119 hours
I know, i know, rookie times, I need to pump em up

thanks, didnt know it had a name. i love these games

I was thinking Disney Speedstorm
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2
Hell yeah, I've been waiting for it to come out
It was already worth playing years ago
For those unaware: If deeply simulated fantasy games like Dwarf Fortress are your jam, try this
It's published by Kitfox Games, who also did Dwarf Fortress's more accessible interface
I haven't played Qud myself, but from what I can gather, it's closer to an RPG where you control a single character as opposed to managing a group of dwarves
It's a traditional roguelike with sci-fi, post apocalyptic, transhumanism vibes
The writing is sublime, and the mechanics are well thought out
I've seen a video about that game. Looks nuts

Raziel has been reborn...
Legacy of Kain™ Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered today is available December 10th!
#ps5 #ps5games #ps4 #ps4games #legacyofkainsoulreaver
The coin has landed on its edge
Ok is just me but this looks a lot better since the reveal trailer?
Yes and no, a lot of the footage is the same, I don't know why but they keep re-using the same exact footage a lot, but ever since the first reveal trailer they have improved on the game specifically in terms of lighting and some more texture work
I feel like they did some adjustments on the lighting that made a whole lot of difference since that one
I'm a lot happier about this one
Plus some of the brand new animated cutscenes they've made for these trailers
Very happy they did take another pass, it was the right decision IMO
I borderline revere the first souls reaver, so I am not looking for big changes, but this makes me like the idea of playing with the new graphics a whole lot more
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown announced (turn based TMNT) https://store.steampowered.com/app/3229100/Teenage_Mutant_Ninja_Turtles_Tactical_Takedown/
New tmnt game announced
There are some big changes too though!
At least as far as they've announced anyways, Soul Reaver 1 has a new map and compass feature
Plus very likely a tweaked camera
Just look at Melchiah from the first trailer
Vs the one from the new one
So much better
It's the same texture but the way the light works on it is night and day
:flutternod: I was just about to get some screenshots ready to compare too
Looks a lot less like plastic
I will say I do still miss some of that grungier dirtier aesthetic that came from the low poly and low res visuals but they're doing a good job at making the games feel like one joined experience considering how little the models change in-between games, Raziel's at least looks identical in 1 and 2 in the remastered, I wish some of the animation could get cleaned up as well but I feel like that would probably be going more into remake territory
To their credit, a lot of people have criticized these trailers so far because they think it's too colorful and cartoony, but that's exactly what the FMVs looked like in SR1 and 2 so they're actually being more faithful than anything
This is great news, this legit made my day.
The old game is barely playable on PC because of several reasons, so I am overjoyed to see that the remaster is going to be at least a comparable tone and experience to the original
I hear Soul Reaver 2 is borderline unplayable, one of the very rare instances where taking down the original port and replacing it with the new remaster is probably a good idea
That's also probably why Blood Omen and Defiance aren't here yet since I think those ones have pretty good PC ports and actually work
I still hope that maybe they'll revive that Blood Omen reboot/remake project, I just found out that it was being worked on years ago but it was cancelled for some reason
Some of the early concept art looked fantastic, it seemed like it was going to maintain the top view/isometric view angle and it looked great
I care much less about SR2 than I do about one, but I'll happily replay it.
I must have played SR1 dozens of times.
Not that I think it's bad, the first one was just a foundational game for me...it's no doubt why Souls games aesthetic and tone had an immediate hold on me years later.
I feel like most people would probably agree with you, although I do think SR2 is where the story really expands and goes crazier and really picks up
I've never played any SR, but I did watch the Josh Strife Hays video on SR1 so if all the SR fans say the remaster's solid I might just play it
Don't let me connecting SR with Dark Souls scare you away, they have nothing to do with each other as far as most things go...it's largely the gothic aesthetic and the fantasy of exploring the crumbling remains of a long dead civilisation, full of various monstrosities and once great decaying gods.
Soul Reaver is what you get when Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus and God of War 1 have a baby
Visuals and some of the theming are the same, very grungy and dark, decay everywhere, ruins, undead
But gameplay wise? It's basically Zelda
The devs of Blood Omen actually just straight up said that one of their main inspirations was Zelda if I remember correctly
Tons of exploration, getting power up style items, bosses at the end of each ''temple''
and a lot of block puzzles
yeah, probably part of the reason I never played SR is that this series always gets compared to other games I didn't play or didn't like
(I did try God of War 1 but got bored halfway through then dropped it when a platforming bit got too frustrating)
I picked these two because I figured you'd know nothing about them
It's really the same thread that got me to love DS and later Hollow Knight...I just really like the drama and the scale of exploring dead civilizations for whatever reason.
I did get that vibe from a completely different set of games
The control scheme or even the genre is apparently secondary
That said SR does have some metroidvania to it. I don't know if I'd say it's its main thing but it's part of the DNA
yeah, the zelda-ness and metroidvania-ness is part of what I got from the JSH video
speaking of niche weirdo tastes, time to read more Goodbye Volcano High
GVH is as mainstream as an indie visual novel can be
(some sarcasm was intended)
some of the extra goodies I just saw the remastered versions are gonna include
I'm gonna not read any of this since I think I'm already sold on it
new 'interactive' world map, gallery for renders and concept art, soundtrack which are all pretty usual, but the interesting ones to me are a full text version of the scripts of the games and the inclusion of the unused levels from the original build of the game
Oh whoops
well, don't read any of that
But yes it's looking pretty good actually
God damn it, I bought it last year for like $30 because that was a good price at the time (it's normally like $80 up here).
lol well none of that is spoilery
Let's hope it sells really well and we get a new Legacy Of Kain eventually
Hopefully, I wonder if they plan to do something with Blood Omen or Defiance if this does well
I'm currently debating whether I wanna get this on gog or steam
I kinda already have the other LoK games on GOG so I might wanna just complete the collection there
DEJA VU
Those are some hot wheels ya got there
"beat that"
Baldur's Gate 3 question: do you get locked out of certain romance questlines if you choose one gender over the other or is every romanceable npc bisexual like in Skyrim
I am pretty sure everyone is bi in this one
Which I am of two minds about, I like the freedom of expression but the characters having set orientations make them feel more like people.
BG3 gets away with it becuase a lot of the writing for the romance is stellar
i know in Cyberpunk one of the characters is a lesbian and won't date your character if they identify as a dude
There are some romance options with ||the Dark Urge that make scarily accurate parallels of them trying to help a loved one out of addiction|| and they are legit gut wrenchingly well acted
Trying gaming with Dolby Atmos for headphones for the first time
I don't expect to notice big difference but I am curious

I would legit play Marvel Rivals if POE2 wasn't releasing so soon, but I'll definitely come back to it in a few weeks
I saw it I saw it
I don't think the world is ready for this one lol people already went crazy at her reveal in CotW
I can't believe they dropped this on a random thursday
I LOVE YOU SQUIRREL GIRL
im almost inclined to try it, just wanna see how it plays out for now
cyberpunk all the romancable chars have a pre-set sexuality, and they will refuse to be romanced if you're not the gender they're attracted to
which kinda sucks as i wanna romance panam but so far i've only played as a girl
Yeah I think if you want set orientations it's better if you have a few more romance options than Cyberpunk
That one did feel restrictive
I would be more fine with it in BG3 given that there are a lot of options
I've never been sure how to feel about the "make everyone bi so the player can romance whoever" thing, but I'm also the type to mostly not play these games and not even notice the romance options when I do...
As I said earlier the biggest perk you get by restricting it, is that you make the characters feel more like their own people than pawns being there for your entertainment, but it's not the only tool writers have for that.
So it's not a huge deal
The only problem I have with Cyberpunk is that there is no bisexual option, it only has two male options and two female options for whether or not your V is male or female and the only option you have for any is || Rogue|| but even then it's not really actually a real romance option and it's more really just the one quest, I was super bummed that || Panam|| is only an option for male V but I do like that they have set sexualities and they're not just dollhouse characters for the player, I just wish some of the options were more varied, at least throw in one character who could go for whatever in terms of romance
Luckily I also really liked Judy so it ended up working out for me anyways
I found a fan project that ran on DarkPlaces of all things, but it stopped development years ago
Nah, there was (apparently) a cancelled reboot project for Legacy of Kain that didn't end up going anywhere, from around 2016, I'm guessing it didn't get too far from just the pitch stage
unfortunate but hey
it is what it is
You must have the best PC on this planet
to be fair, I do... mostly
my CPU is handily beaten at gaming by the 9800X3D, but it's still no slouch
I was CPU-limited on the Can it run Crysis? preset, I dropped vegetation to High
Oh I was thinking to try it after all the jokes Ive heard. Is it cool in 2024?
this is game of the year, you can play as Jeff
yes, it aged very well visually. Gameplay is still quite good, bosses are a bit frustrating as usual
you get a lot of freedom of approaches, even though it's not an immersive sim
stealth options are more practical than in Far Cry 1
(Far Cry 1 is basically proto-Crysis)
I'm going to install it and play it too
Crysis 2 is much more linear, Crysis 3 is a middleground
Crysis 3 looks great today too
the OGs don't look much worse and they run better on low-end machines
Crysis Warhead is also not available in remastered form
free Lego!
it might be a repost, but I expect this to be this year's "big game" offered by EGS

they had this account for a while now but now they decide to post, fair enough capcom usa
And of course they went with Mai, lol.
Gotta attract that male demographic to Bluesky.
why what's up with Mai
features
the character is known for its skimpy outfit
Stellar Blade players would be proud.
o
You've gotta include sapphics too
Smh my head
How stupid of me.
I hope she'll have her CotW design as an extra outfit for SF6
it's a bit more family friendly than her default
it's very different but I dig it
Just a bit. :P
That's silly a bit but I understand
I actually like her variation to her main outfit that they gave her in Fatal Fury 3
they made her flaps look more akin to a cut skirt and her top is a let loose of her main outfit but with a more corset look
Yeah as I said the main problem with how Cyberpunk does it, is that they don't have the same number of options of a Bioware game...I might even prefer it the more limited approach but you have to have a few more characters for that to work out. It's not a deal breaker but it's definitely the most limited romance system in a big rpg game.
I like Judy and panam but I usually only play fem v
Sucks to have a romance option cut off like that
That new Indiana Jones game actually requires a GPU capable of ray-tracing

Bring joy to crowds of thrill-seeking patrons when you build the amusement park of your dreams in RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, available now on #NintendoSwitch!
BS if you have to pay for it because the OG RCT is literally freeware IIRC
Also I dunno how easy playing would be with a controller
I don't think it's freeware, but it can be played free if you use demo version of it with openRCT2
I have RCT in my Steam library and I paid for it
Classic is fine
I recommend OpenRCT2, which works best with the original PC version and runs on PC and android
The original is still for sale but there is a free demo
Yeah I think the demo technically has a time limit? but you can go around it using openrct2
That's kind of pirating
yup
So the game isn't really free at all
All games are free if you allow pirating but that's not really the point
Is it pirating? The data in the demo version is free. Where does the definition of 'piracy' come in when you're just using that free data in a different engine?
Would a single if-statement in openrct2 to check the demo's time limit suddenly make it not piracy, for whatever definition of piracy this is?
You could, however, make a clearer ethical argument. You're able to play the game without compensating the original dev, which would apply regardless of whether you're legally in the clear

lighting looks great now
also subtitles nice
aw man i don't think my steam deck can run it. oh well
Yeah that's what cracking is
By bypassing the demo time limit you are using a crack
I've always viewed a crack as something that modifies or circumvents the original executable. But openrct2 isn't doing that. It's a reimplementation of the whole engine
"crack" may be a slightly misleading term for this specific case, but the point is that it's still piracy because this is circumventing the demo's intent, and iiuc OpenRCT2 is not a legal, official release of either game involved
The fact of the matter is you're grabbing a free time-limited demo of the game and then accessing the entire game without time limit
If the game itself was free, that'd be fine, but it's not and you're basically pirating it (which I condone)
Is this method illegal though? Or is it more of a moral/ethical thing?
I try to avoid making statements about the legality of something as a rule, since this is an international chatroom where laws differ. This is about the colloquial definition of piracy but not moral or ethical implications of it
The demo data is free of charge. OpenRCT2 doesn't include any game data, and is a free reimplementation of the engine. It's up to the user to put the two together
Yeah, OpenRCT2 is not at fault but the user is pirating
it is very common for apparent disagreements to be solely about the wording used
which is part of why it's important to use words correctly
I do think many cases of piracy are morally acceptable, even morally good, but I also think people should at least be aware of when they're pirating, just in case the legal reality ever becomes a problem
(also because it's weirdly common for people to complain that their pirated copies of games get broken by official updates or aren't supported by mods; the absurdity of complaining about this would presumably be obvious if one was aware they did a piracy
)
My favorite is that one game which turns a few pixels in the corner of your screen white if you tampered with the game
This makes it so developers don't have to spend as much time debugging issues that arise from executable mods
What game is it?

Total War maybe?

this was one of the few PC games I had growing up so I have some nostalgia for it
I never got far in it though, too scary
The Thing is one of the greatest movies ever made imo, i might have to pick this up
This is actually a canon sequel to the movie as far as I know
And it runs in 120 on Xbox
What rounds do you get to?
Just under round 20 on the new map
reminds me of how Scarface: The World Is Yours is a canon sequel and is also a video game
Marvel Rivals has a feature where you can give new players a code before they choose their username and it gives both of you rewards for it. To give the code out you have to be level 5
Its called an assemble code
It's a referral code
bg3 starting with freaky eye stuff hooray
Yeah that
Potioncraft 2.0 is out:
1- You can now choose what to plant in your garden
2- You can unlock new areas to harvest ingredients.
3- There's a full rebalance of the game with a talent tree, difficulty levels and rejiggered pacing.
4- You can decorate your shop!
5- There's a new alchemical map that shows up if you use wine instead of water as a base.
6- More stuff
addendum: watched a video and it seems to run fine in my eyes, just very jagged polygons and low 20 fps i think
lol i bought that game when it came out and played it for like 10 minutes. maybe i should actually play it more now
Yeah!
i watched a lot of youtube of it though and yeah its a good game
What on older maps? And what do you think of the new one? I haven't tried
https://youtu.be/7ZAB6c4cgSk?si=fKLrZZkqRDSavznE
I guess these two really are the last DLC for the game before they move on to the new Fatal Fury
I don't do well with team based fighting games but I have seen this game go on sale pretty often... and these two are pretty cool... maybe if I happen to catch it on a really good sale sometime, I'm sure they're gonna do some sort of complete edition at some point

Also just sharing this because it showed up on my feed and I found this to be really interesting, this is from apparently a pretty big Legacy of Kain centered channel from a good while back up until now, and apparently this person is the director for the SR1 and 2 remasters, I read that the team behind these remasters has been working pretty close with big LoK community members but I didn't know it was to this degree

Just sharing because I found it pretty interesting and neat, apparently this person was behind this HD texture pack for the Dreamcast version of SR1 so I'm guessing that was probably a big factor in them getting the opportunity, pretty cool
it's like playing Quake 1/2 multiplayer with its demo files, it still works today using source ports
in fact, you can even play the full singleplayer game by playing coop on servers that will happily provide you the needed files on join automatically
Holy shit

despite it saying 3v3, you really learn more of the game mechanically than characters individually, a lot of characters have the same tools in simple ways to learn imo.
this is the goofiest shit ever
most good remasters are made this way
Doom, Doom 64, Quake 1, Quake 2, Turok 3's Nightdive remasters all have involved community members
even Strife in fact (which was Nightdive's first release)
i love you Nightdive
Hi.
Ooh link
Around the same doing them solo
Should I play Agamemnon of Mycenae, Priam of Troy, or Adad-šuma-uṣur of Babylon in Total War: Pharaoh?
Babylonians eh? I was leaning that way myself...
Just make sure to give them the curse of Agum-Kakrime
i bought Risk the board game at the store today
I don't know the team behind it, but System Shock also seems to have had a good remaster/remake
Make sure not to read the rules
Just start as Australia
decisions, decisions...
The only one I can recommend is Lost Crown just because I know it's good, but the way I always make these decisions myself is I just go with the game that takes the shortest time to complete first
fair, but after 1000xResist and Goodbye Volcano High I'm in the mood for something that's not the shortest thing in my new purchases
Then Lost Crown, it's not even that long anyways though it's a pretty short experience from what I hear, but it's great
I don't know if the other 2D PoP ended up releasing or not, they didn't really market that one really well, I bet a lot of people don't even know there's another new 2D PoP game
the one with the crazy hand drawn artstyle that's really cool
Coming on 21st November - "The Second Act" update!

- BIG art upgrade
- More biomes
- More bosses
- New story act + narrative polish for Act 1
- New enemies
- Many Quality of Life additions like multiple save slots & more
- German, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish localisation

It looks really interesting, but not as good as Lost Crown, although if you decide to play Lost Crown you'll realize that that's a very high bar to surpass
pioneers motion capture in the 8-bit era
no one cares for 14 years
pioneers the core platforming mechanics of the next few decades of AAA action games
no one cares for 5 years
reboots with a game I liked but no one else did
no one cares for 16 years
apparently one of the best 2D metroidvanias???
like seriously how does this keep happening
I guess it does sound a bit crazy if you put it that way lol I have no clue honestly, the only one I have context and knowledge enough to answer is Lost Crown really suffered from not releasing on Steam, and also requiring you to have the ubisoft launcher but that's more of a general shitty practice nowadays that should go away, I envision that TRPoP is probably gonna suffer from nobody even knowing this game exists at all even though it actually looks really really good and very high quality
The whole art direction and animation work in TRPoP resembles the original game a lot which I wonder if that was intentional
yeah I would've played Lost Crown on launch if not for the DRM situation
It's also why I didn't insta purchase it either, I was coming off of Blasphemous and really would've immediately bought the game if it weren't for that
I also had 10-20 other metroidvanias to try at the time (and as you can see I'm still nowhere near "done" lol) so it didn't feel like a particularly huge sacrifice
To be completely fair, for me personally that sounds like a good problem to have
it mostly is
As much as I really really love metroidvanias I also kinda get into them a lot more if I really dig the world and the characters so even if one of them has really sick gameplay if I don't particularly care for the vibe I probably won't play it, so even though there's probably a bunch of other cool metroidvanias I could've played after Blasphemous I kinda didn't myself, the closest thing I got was gravity circuit which I still have yet to finish and I intend to! But that's not quite a metroidvania and it's more of a megaman style game with really really cool movement and traversal and platforming, but I guess it scratched that particular itch I look for in metroidvanias
That's another one to add to the backlog if you happen to fancy the way it looks and you happen to catch it on a good sale sometime
Gravity Circuit is on my wishlist actually, I even watched a GDQ run of it
I have that on my watch later but since I didn't get around to finishing the game I haven't seen it yet, for some weird reason I didn't want to spoil myself on any late game abilities or story stuff even though the game's probably not that serious
I think the last few weeks I was in that mood where I wanted to play some stuff that wasn't challenging exactly, so these short (~10 hour) indie narrative and puzzle games got bumped to the top of the priority list, but now I'm back in the mood for a slightly longer metroidvania
You ever play Axiom Verge 1?
Oh, yes you did
You could try Rogue Legacy 2. It's a roguelite metroidvania, where you retain movement options but change builds
Yeah I get those 'phases' where I'm in the mood for a certain kind of game too, it's why I have 3 whole RPGs still pending waiting to get finished because I just kinda stopped playing them mid playthrough and started doing other stuff and ever since I haven't really been in that specific mood where I wanna jump back in and really sit down for a couple of hours to play through and very possibly grind for a while, so I haven't gotten around to finishing them
and Risk of Rain 1 and 2
Rogue Legacy 1 is not a metroidvania
weird how often that happens to games I'm not as into
I guess for roguelite metroidvanias I've also heard a lot about Dead Cells
I've just had zero desire to try any more roguelites
Yeah, my personal preference is for Axiom Verge 1, Rogue Legacy 2, Risk of Rain 1
well maybe when Hades II leaves early access
makes sense, I remember hearing a lot about RL back when the "roguelite" term had barely been coined and I'd just given FTL and a few others a chance
It modernized the roguelite genre after the binding of isaac. It's lacking in many of the good innovations
does BoI have the same problem these days? (not that I'm likely to try it regardless)
No, nothing copies it
It's got some quality of life stuff, because it kept getting updated for years and years
But ultimately, its biggest problems is that it's too big
They keep adding items that you don't want in every run, without giving you many more ways to control randomness
So you end up with more and more bad runs
Risk of rain I only tried when I was in company that test games and they needed someone to fill in from other game and I was like oh it's so cute
and then oh
In the recent multiplayer update they improved a lot of the worst items but didn't fix the fundamental issue
Are you thinking of Rainworld?
Ohhh
It's the one with the wormcats
You are a slugcat. The world around you is full of danger, and you must face it – alone. Separated from your family in a devastating flood, you will need to find food and shelter between terrifying torrential downpours which threaten to drown all life. Now I need to
Exactly thank you
Sorry
Oh it does look like your type of game Flitter, no wonder 💖
Risk of Rain 1 is my favorite game of all time
yeah I think I tried RoR 1 once way back when roguelites were new
I never understood the ror series
Never clicked with me, either one
How did you know it was Rainworld?
I played both. Risk of Rain is not cute. Rainworld is cute but horrifying
Okay
I also tried both; as soon as Flitter said it I thought "oh, maybe"
Sometimes I wish I could play games like that
Is something stopping you?
Im not really Twilight type of Pony
I think everyone can play almost every game
(and the exceptions are usually the game's fault, not any player's)
personally, there are some (sub)genres that last I tried I simply don't have the execution skill to enjoy past a certain point (fighting games, some precision platformers, danmaku above the easiest difficulty) but compared to all the games out there it's not much of a restriction
Yeah, whether someone enjoys them is a different matter
sometimes it's subjective what's a skill issue and what's a fun issue
precision platformers I'm very sure I would enjoy more if I was just a little bit less awful at them
Oh if Celeste counts, it was touching my sides but it made me try and finish
yeah I very nearly dropped it multiple times
Celeste is great because the accessibility options make it a lot easier to play the game even if you are not good at precision platformers
if I ever get that specific itch again I might try more Celeste, this time with assist mode
seems unlikely though
also, this is in contrast to genres that I've failed to get into in the past, but suspect it's due to a learning cliff (and not enough interest to push past it) rather than a true skill issue; the big one here is strategy games
Yeah
Ixrec what types of games do you like if you can think?
I know it may be difficult question coz I like many for example
my favorite genre is metroidvanias, but I also like a range of platformers, puzzle games, narrative games, most kinds of action games, etc
what the emoji said
I'd say you're also pretty well versed in survival horror too
I take it very much Hollow Knight
sorry
oh right I forgot that somehow
I'll save you some time and screenshot one of my Steam collections:
I didn't know they updated Pseudoregalia's cover art
Oh wow okay
Nice
Next time sort them by playtime
that would be misleading for many reasons
How is Nine Sols?
oh absolutely excellent
did you want to know more? like a comparison to Hollow Knight?
I should probably update my list of favorites
I was lured to download because it's a cat. I haven't played but in Hollow Knight and Ori, in both I got lost. But I know big significance of both
I'm going to download Ori now, I should try again
Ori is a lot of fun
It's very beautiful but you may get lost
Ori 1-2 are definitely the best intro to metroidvanias of these, HK and 9S are significantly harder
“In Pix the Cat, you are Pix, the first cat in the world to play his own game! Progress in the Grid of Infinity, deeper and deeper through its nested levels. Hatch the eggs to stack up ducklings behind you. Drop them off at target circles to set them free. Avoid hitting walls and obstacles at all costs! Still with me?” Developed by the French st...

just check the map from time to time and dont overthink where you're going, the path that feels natural is usually the right one
If I get lost in Ori 1, do you think I should think harder, check youtube or ask here?
I think you should play more Ori 1 lol
it also depends on if "get lost" means simply not knowing exactly where to go but having areas to explore (part of the intended genre experience) or if it means getting stuck and having no idea how to progress further (actual problem, should be extremely hard to do in Ori though)
Are you one beliving Silk Song will come out or is it like Half Life 3 you think?
It doesn't matter whether a game will come out. What matters is if it does
but we also have so many other great metroidvanias that Silksong frankly doesn't matter until it comes out
this is not a desperation genre
Have you played like Nintendo Metroid games?
all of them, that's how I learned I like the genre
if you're still looking for recommendations, then Metroid Dread (for 2D) and Prime 1 (for 3D) are also great introductions to the genre
I have retro mode on Xbox I can play retro games and I like them
Do you think I should play in release order or there is some other cool order like story order?
[Hint]: FlitterOoT's Progressive Wallet is at Frog's Domain - Side Room Grapple Secret in LlisandurFox's World. (not found)
for the Metroid series?
Yes
Wrong channel
the Metroids have little enough story that I wouldn't worry about it
Oh yeah
Just vibes
if you haven't played any of them before, I would instead prioritize playing one of the best games so you get a solid first impression and figure out if you even like this genre/series first
What platform is best on?
???
A game that is the best from Metroid, what console was it released on?
Dread
Metroid Dread was a Nintendo Switch exclusive
Metroid Prime (1) was originally released on the Gamecube, the Prime Trilogy rerelease/collection was on the Wii, and more recently Prime (1) Remastered was on the Switch
GameCube and Wii no problem
I will take time. First will be Ori but it's very nice to learn you know a lot about them 💖
in that case: fortunately Prime 1, 2 and 3 are all very good so the Trilogy is a safe purchase, in particular Prime 3 is one of the few games I'm aware of that makes motion controls worth owning
but yeah Ori usually gets suggested first because being on Steam makes it more accessible, and people who own Nintendo systems have typically tried a Metroid by now
what would those reasons be
the biggest one is that some of those games have randomizer mods I've been playing with Flitter in #1119170161518334004
and since (ignoring randomizers) I'm the type to play most games once, and a few games twice (even these 14 I haven't all played a second time), my playtime would mostly just tell you how long each game was
I feel like Metroid and Metroid Prime are different enough
it's not like Factorio or Rimworld where playtime = how much you like it
I see, yea there's some games I play once and go dont back to it, mostly bc it doesnt have much replay value, in that its usually more or less the same experience every playthrough
Fun fact about Metroid: Apparently Metroid Prime Remastered was a huge flop in Japan
(did someone imply Metroid and Prime aren't different? I don't understand what that was a response to)
Oh my point is that Metroid and Prime are different enough so that I personally feel like playing Prime doesn't really deliver the feeling of "Metroid" as a game
uh, well, sure, but neither does Ori lol
the recommendation was for metroidvanias, the whole genre
Honestly I'm unsure if I'll recommend Metroid Prime as a metroidvania game
I guess it can technically count?
(It sold only 50k copies)
well, if 3D games can count as metroidvanias at all, Prime is as clear an example as we could possibly ask for, even ignoring the literal "Metroid" in the title
Yeah I guess I don't see 3d games as metroidvania, I'd rather call Prime as an action adventure shooting or something like that
Since most metroidvanias are indeed 2d platformers, I feel like recommending Prime can be slightly different
It's like recommending Hollow Knight for someone looking for Soulslike; it is classified as so, for sure, buuuut...
yeah, this sort of thing is why it's important to talk about what we mean by our genre terms; they're all deeply ambiguous and we're all gonna end up using them differently
for example, if what someone likes about "soulslikes" is the vibes of the setting or the cryptic storytelling, then Hollow Knight is actually a great recommendation
personally I don't think a "metroidvania" has to be 2d, but I do think the meaning of the term is far more clearly established and consistently used in 2d, while in 3d the boundary between metroidvania and zelda-like and souls-like is a lot harder to tease out, and frankly there just aren't nearly as many good 3d metroidvanias anyway
Ixrec very sorry small question, all cats in your banner are in 9S or someone made a picture like that?
that's fanart of the Nine Sols cast as just-cat cats, yes
Wait
only now I realized it means like cats have 9 lives?
it might also mean that, but it's primarily a reference to the old Chinese myth of an archer named Hou Yi shooting down 9 suns
(I knew zilch about Chinese mythology before playing this lol)
Are you asian?
I'm whiter than bread
Did you have in school or as hobby?

No i mean myths
oh the mythology thing
You should read Journey to the West as an intro to Chinese mythology
And by read Journey to the West I mean watch Dragon ball
as a teenager I did read a lot about Greco-Roman mythology, some Norse, and a smattering of other stuff but I never became deeply familiar with any of the other pantheons
So fortunate that I don't have to be a Greek to understand who Zeus is /j
e.g. I've been aware of Journey to the West long before anime made it mandatory, but I never got around to reading it myself
Yes! I had Greek myths at school
I read the wikipedia overview of it
Holy cow
likewise, everything I know about Japanese mythology comes from Okami
(speaking of "3d metroidvanias": is Okami a metroidvania or a zelda-like? who cares, play it)
They won't sell Okami to me because they are evil
Is this it?
Wolf
damn i need to play that again. I bought a PS2 just to own that game. i also bought a ps3 and a wii just to own the other versions. i also hav ethe HD PC version
its been a few years since i last played it
I'm not giving Microsoft money
Why?
I don't like them
Celeste, Hollow Knight, Tunic, Nine Sols are all good
I've heard Lies of P is good
It's very souls I think
I wonder if I could be good if I haven't finished any other souls
Lies
this is also the set I can vouch for
Ninja Gaiden 1-3 are good, but 1 is better by enough of a margin I'd strongly suggest that over 2 and 3
i love Ninja Gaiden but holy cow is it hard
Lies of P I've consistently heard is good from people who like way more 3D soulslikes than me
I still remember beating Ninja Gaiden (1) on Hard mode
grinding the final boss was sooooo worth it
I didn't like the flow of combat in lies of P's demo, but that might have changed from launch. Then again the only one i've found that has the right level of smoothness in combat is Elden Ring
Genryu — 9/19/23, 4:54 PM
Been trying out Lies of P and I'm impressed, it feels more fluid to me than in the demo, still unsure what they did with it but I swear it feels so much better to playTchernobog — 9/19/23, 4:54 PM
Oh that's good to hear. It felt stiff and jank when I tried the demo and it immediately put me offGenryu — 9/19/23, 4:55 PM
I'm not sure if it's just me and I'm crazy, it's hard to explain why it feels better
I don't think it quite reaches the From Soft quality but it comes damn close to it
It's definitely the one that it comes the closest of the ones I've played not from FS
I thought that sounded familiar
Yeah I haven't gotten it since
Was hoping my fiancée might get it so i can play it from her library but she finds the atmosphere too dark
sometimes I think it would be nice to play something like that, but it's so hard to guess whether a 3D game will turn out like Jedi: Fallen Order/Survivor or like a Fromsoft
I did try Code Vein at one point and was thoroughly underwhelmed, still need to give Nioh a shot
I did also try a demo of... Enotria, I think a newer one was?
That felt very stilted
"Enotria: The Last Song" is a thrilling Soulsike set in a sun-lit land inspired by Italian folklore and filled with danger. The world has been gripped by the Canovaccio - a twisted eternal play that keeps everything in an unnatural stasis. oh and Another Crab's Treasure, that GDQ run looked promising
I think I had tried dark souls 1 or 2 very far in the past and didn't really like it (first boss annihilated me), never got into that kind until Elden Ring opened my eyes
But the bar being set that high makes it hard to find a good one to explore
sounds a little like my situation with roguelites: anything short of Hades is just no fun
weirdly enough Elden Ring doesn't really do it for me, which is a shame because it's a lovely game
there's a hard mode ????
I'm watching Tale play Elden Ring and I'm pretty sure I'm enjoying it more that way than if I'd been playing myself
i am enjoying Dark Souls 3 quite a bit, so idk maybe open world souls doesn't really speak to me
google says Hard is unlocked by beating the game on Normal, so maybe that's why you didn't know?
I did bounce off it once, came back a year later and had done a lot more research - once you get a good early start/some guidance, it is a lot more enjoyable than running around like a headless chicken
apparently there are even higher levels to unlock but that seems pretty absurd to me
yeah I just don't want games that need "research" to make them playable
wikipedia doesn't say anything about a hard mode https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninja_Gaiden_(NES_video_game)
oh I'm talking about Ninja Gaiden (2004), the 3D one
itms so hard
i think i got to oevelvlkkkkkkkkkkng
what the hell
i think i got to level 3 and then gave up
Believe me, I 100% get that. And I still think that the game not really clearly explaining stats and other stuff in depth (or even barely) is a mistake. But after I did take that plunge and followed at least a 'starter' guide, I felt like I could level up and explore on my own
And I have since massively enjoyed the game, to the degree I never imagined when I first bounced off it
is Hades II worth playing even though it's still early access ?
from everything I heard about the first Hades' EA period, I'm sure H2 has been solid for a while now, when I say I'll wait until it's out of EA that's not because I'm doubting its quality but because I'm not in the mood now and I have so much else to play that I may as well wait until my (by roguelite standards) one playthrough will be the best it can be
i see
I see no reason to play a game when it's not yet finished, unless I suspect there won't be a better time than now to play it
well, me and my friend got the stuff requiring the ascendant spirit essence, gave yharon the old college try and... somehow beat it first try
That's why I'm not gonna touch Subnautica 2 until its full release. Early access is too far away from release and, assuming they're pouring the same amount of quality in 2 that they did in 1, it's a game that's best experienced in its entirety the first time rather than early access version and then full release version later

Pannenkoek has another video out
Supper Mario Broth was going to stream today but decided to postpone because he says a Pannenkoek video is more important
On the initial release, I would've said maybe not. Current patch added an entire new zone and weapon, so it's definitely in a very playable state. There's still at least one more content patch worth of stuff to be added, which won't be until jan/feb I think. If you want early access in a more complete state, wait a bit. Otherwise playability-wise, it's already great
What did you think of GVH?
Hmmm, maybe I should actually have used ping...
GVH mentioned
oh I thought it was great, deserves all the hype etc
I’d only not recommend GVH if you’re the kind of person that struggles to relate to teenage/high school drama stories
Touhou, TOUHOU, TOUHOU!
ok even on Steam today the Ubisoft launcher/DRM situation is hilariously bad, it took over ten minutes of fiddling with "Ubisoft Connect" just to get the actual game to let me run it
my favorite was when it asked me for a CD Activation Key
Today I learned that It takes two on steam has two different Friend's Pass
And the one on the main game's page is the worse one

I ended up starting a game as Adad but I'm struggling with the starting war...flipping garrisons, man...
you can always judge a game protagonist by how they treat the incidental animals
Comes back in five years because you left the game unplayed
5'11 person be like : Don't worry, I won't be long.
Anypony tried Marvel Rivals?
am interested in trying it out, just been busy with something else
The fact that they don't offer gameplay trailers on the store page indicates to me that they're not confident of the gameplay and want to utilize spectacle instead
i thought this was ekko from league
you mean from Arcane
i was thinking if to say that or just from league, but i decided i dont feel like getting hung by league players tonight
crazy that they made a video game based off Arcane
how many LoL players do we actually have in this server?
i can think of a few p sure
if getting bullied into playing 2 unranked matches by a friend counts im technically one ig
didnt even know tbh
only been in the dota chat before

Successfully in recovery since they implemented Vanguard
I may be cripplingly addicted to league but Vanguard would be just way too much of a hassle to deal with and I'd rather not run the risk of my computer getting bricked because Vanguard detects a driver to be malicious or whatever stupid thing it did to people's computers
why do people even play <game I don't like>
I mean why do people play games
why do games
why
sheer competitive drive and also feeling of missing out if you're already invested or decent in it
detroit
what game be this
River City Girls 2 Return to Detroit
I have! Its pretty good
Have you played it yet?
Not yet, waiting for the right vibes
I keep trying to get my dad to play Marvel Rivals, but he has not caved yet
Hasn't it been like three days since the game came out?
be happy you have a dad willing to play games in this day and age 😛
Yeah
mine did when I was younger, but he got too old for it

we played a lot of Mario Kart Wii online, online splitscreen was the shit
I am
Me and my dad play a lot of fortnite together
Do you like it so far? The rivals?
Yeah i like it
Some things i don't like about it is that the battlepass progression feels slow, there's no role queue, and for some reason the ing game store shows the prices for currency in USD and not CAD which is quite misleading
https://youtu.be/3BBA6JB543k?si=S06QRl3Ca7SkiZKU this looks intriguing

It does
What do you mean with LoL player?
Because I played it, a lot, but it was like several years ago...but the threat is always there.
I played LoL one time

To be honest, the best part of having played LoL is knowing exactly how much more enjoyable Arcane is than actually playing LoL
The gap between the two things enhance the experience...it's like if someone was repeatedly kicked in the balls and then they bring them out to a nice restaurant...everyone is having a good time at the restaurant, but the dude is eating good food and not getting kicked in the balls, it's an extra good time.
I was at a LAN party last weekend and the people who shouted the loudest when something bad happened were the LoL and CS2 players
the Smash players didn't do that at all (weirdly enough, maybe)
damn the last lan party was probably in 2003 that i went to. Lugging CRT monitors to LAN parties was just the worst
people still lug their setups (a handful of players bring laptops instead), but it's all LCD now
my 42" TV is probably lighter than that
we had a guy show up at our LAN a few years back with his 50" TV in the back of his truck. It was badass.
sweet
every time i think of a LAN party i think of that old iamge of the guy taped to the roof
at one point I found an article about that
Legendary
I love this image

Before Arcane, the way to experience League stuff without actually playing League was just playing Runeterra, a lot of new lore stuff, new character designs like Caitlyn or Riven and other stuff came directly from Legends of Runeterra's team of artists, but Riot killed it now
You have some of the other games, like Ruined King which I'm currently in the middle of playing, but they also shut down that entire dev team too
Wild Rift though I hear is even better than the main PC game?
It looks a lot better since all the characters were made at the same time very recently so it looks way better and a lot more consistent artstyle wise, games are shorter so you're not spending 40 min of your life absolutely hating your existence, and I'm guessing it probably also feels better to play but I don't play on mobile so I wouldn't know, all I know is I repeatedly hear that Wild Rift somehow ended up being better than the PC game
TFT
im dying this description is so vivid
IDK playing on touch countrols is not something I ever enjoy, it's something I sometimes tolerate
I saw the Dark Souls board game at the store today, same with a Cyberpunk 2077 one. I want them, but the Dark Souls one was like $150
you can get a physical controller, many can fit in your other pocket if you have the phone in one pocket
Gamesir X2s is a good choice for this, it's USB-C (low latency/no need to charge it) and is quite affordable too
I don't know much about board games at all, but I do remember reading about the Dark Souls board game and I heard many complaints about it being a grindfest, repetitive and taking too long, so a lot of people end up modifying the rules, I don't know much at all about the Cyberpunk 2077 one but I do know Cyberpunk 2020 is pretty great, at least that's what everyone says all the time
i remember watching that Polygon video about Cyberpunk 2077
2020
whatevr
speaking of i should probably pick Cyberpunk up again
That is technically correct, and I own a controller that would work, but I do feel a bit weird trying to play with a controller on a phone screen, it doesn't feel like a good experience either to me
The DS board game i saw was specifically the Tomb of Giants one
Also how the hell do you make a board game into a grindfest
From a quick google search it seems like people like the Cyberpunk 2077 board game
Its cheaper by like 20 bucks compared to the DS one. Online at least
Yeah I'm gonna be completely honest I don't even have a clue how you ''play'' board games I've never touched one in my life, I just remember that little tidbit of useless information that I read one day (although I guess now it's not useless anymore technically)
I dont really know how you play them either tbh, but I've been more interested in trying some lately
There's something special about sitting around a table to play your favorite table top game
never played like, Monopoly or something ?
that along with Sorry, Candyland, Game of Life, etc was the shit back then
Oh i guess the game is actually called Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City
i'd recognize that mountain anywhere
yep there he is lol
gonna get it tomorrow so excited
What mountain is it?
it's the mountain at the beginning of Raiders
it's where the Paramount logo fades in
In what country?
I'd play it if i had enough room on my SSD
i think Peru ? i know it's South America
Paramount logo mountain is known to be Ben Lomond, Utah, but some argues that it's actually Artesonraju, Peru. Meanwhile the Raiders mountain is called Mt. Shubet, which is a real mountain in Peru, but apparently doesn't look like the mountain in the movie
Holy shit Magneto is fun to use in Marvel Rivals

I am loving this competition, driving devices to be better
I'd still be wary of intel drivers, and I don't know how well intel drivers would go for gaming in linux for bazzite, but otherwise this looks great.

That's fucked up
God I can't get over how fucking good SteamOS is compared to windows
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDlJqvPve24 This is impressive. All of GTA 3 is playable on the 3DS it seems.
Can you really run GTA Vice City & GTA 3 on a New Nintendo 3DS? I put both ports to the test! Enjoy gameplay footage from these reverse engineered 6th generation console games, while I mess around with missions and cheats to see how much the performance can handle.
RE3 and Miami are crazy projects! If you want to find out more about this unoff...
Lol wow
wish LCS was
It runs and looks surprisingly good considering the game and the hardware
That would be cool. Also San Andreas, I don't think that works.
This is what I love about console hacking, especially after the console looses official support, and people try putting lots of stuff onto it.
You can also play all of HL1 on the 3DS I believe
In a way though it also shows how weak the 3DS is in terms of processing power
£2 too much, lmao
Fuckers know how much Pokémon sells for too, I'll give them that much
You can get it for free on Xbox

that reminds me, a fan is porting GTA 3 to the Dreamcast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYsQbd-SnfU
We currently have some issues related to the Vertex Colors. After some research and tests with them, I managed to get the correct rendering for some areas that were previously completely black.
However, this wasn't enough for the faces during cutscenes, so I made another fix specifically for them.

it's still being worked on in 2024, the Dreamcast has a big homebrew community
ooh! Now this also looks interesting
it's funny because the Dreamcast was one of the original target platforms for that game, but it was canceled
Damn, I didn't know the dreamcast still had a community for it
oh pf I never knew that
Dreamcast was way ahead of its time, it was the first console to have "real" online gaming
its Quake 3 port even had crossplay with PC!!
literally 15-20 years before other platforms provided crossplay
Daamn that is cool
The dreamcast sounds like it has much more then what I originally thought
beautiful grey box
I wonder if mine still works.

HOLA AMIGOS NOS VAMOS A MÉXICO
it's not a metroidvania without zoomers apparently
I remember playing Lost Ruin and going left immediately led me to a massive lore tidbit that I think spoiled most of the plot
now every time I play a Metroidvania i try going left
started bhop in css yesterday, first clip and first decent time
nice, I played a bit of CS:GO bhop and kz a few years ago
but I prefer Defrag/XDF at the end of the day, weapon-based gameplay is more fun
(oh, and slick surfaces too)
i used to do combat surf back in 1.6 days and recently a lil bit of css/go surf casually
CS2 is known to have wonky surf mechanics due to bugs in the engine, so most of the movement community dissed it
