there was one guy i forget who he was but basicly spent his entire lets play whining about the game. dont know how that guy has soo many views on the channel when all he did was complain about pretty much every element
Follower loyalty, I guess
Probably just played the game because it was a new thing and he threw it into a vote on his channel somewhere and didn't actually expect it to win.
Another puzzle game that's great is Quern. Very Myst/Riven-inspired, not just in the art style but also with the puzzles.
Weird that Dilandau hasn't played it yet, since it's right up his alley.
hmm i own Quern but never played it yet
there's another game i got growing up which was apparently very myst like also never gotten a chance to play.
Schizm: Mysterious Journey https://www.gog.com/en/game/schizm
one of these days il get around to playing all the games i own
Ooooooh this one. I remember this. I started to play it when I was younger but never finished it. I remember it being pretty tricky.
The acting in it is also pretty terrible, lol.
It had sequels too. Two, I think.
Maybe 3?
I know I've played Schizm but I have absolutely zero memory of what's in it, I'm guessing that means it was mid but I'm not really sure
Quern was great
I was actually thinking of that one earlier but couldn’t remember what it was called
I remember the gimmick of Schizm being that you played as two characters, both stranded on opposite ends of the world, and they have to work together on either end to solve puzzles for each other and meet up, as well as figure out where their other scientists went.
steam fall sale starts tomorrow
i dont remember the last game i bought on steam. i avoid it mostly now days due to the DRM and well just not play8ing many games. Im glad soo many indie games now days use multiple stores
When's the steam winter sale?
Steam DRM is optional and up to devs to implement. Most indie devs don't!
i think the 19th
oh so some games can be launched without using steam and directly from the EXE?
You technically can even with Steam DRM, with a little tweaking IIRC.
Well that's pirating
The idea is that you get it on Steam, but don't use their launcher to launch and play it.
good to know. last time i was really using steam a lot it was just not fun to try and avoid using steam for anyhting but the download always had to be the launcher or running
Anyway, if you launch a game without going through steam you do miss out on steam features like workshop subscriptions or achievements
the tweaking is not worth the effort vs a lot of stuff i ever want to play being on other stores luckily
So if the other platforms offer those, go for the actual version
yeah its nice being able to keep a collection of installers
also important to note that Steam DRM is a very light form of DRM, only intended to deter the most casual attempts at piracy, with few (none?) of the practical problems that more infamous DRMs cause
in my case I personally value having most of my games on a single platform more than micromanaging the best versions of each game, so I generally stick to Steam
steams ability to just take things off you is something im not a fan of. but that can be solved by just downloading everything and keeping it
yeah, I've never tried it but have always heard that Steam DRM is easy enough to remove I'm not worried about it for archiving purposes
heck it doesn't even stop me from locally duplicating some of my games' folders for modding purposes
steams ability to have multiple install locations is useful.
For everything i have on steam i 'install' it to my NAS.
when i want to play it i use the move install folder option to move it over to my desktop. ocne done move it back to NAS
and for normies like me, "Steam is close enough to a NAS"
i hate having to redownload things just seems like such a waste to me. but then again i grew up with monthly data limits and its just a habbit i have not been able to shake even though net has been unlimited downloads for years
I wonder what the thought process behind the timeline placement is anymore, I wonder if they're just kinda spitballing it
I saw people getting confused that Echoes wasn't a Link's Awakening sequel, and I feared that might happen due to the artstyle reuse
The fact that TOTK feels so disconnected from the rest of the franchise that it contradicts and conflicts with stuff from Breath of the Wild is still wild to me
as much as I love this whole timeline stuff (and admittedly at a point in time they did stick by it pretty well) they really just seem to want to do one-off stories every game and they should just do that

HOLY FUCK
2 OF MY FAVE GAMES COLLABING

in Steam's defense, it's rare for the best versions to be outside Steam anyway (nonwithstanding startup speed where DRM-free will always win)
GOG has a history of outdated versions, missing DLCs and all that
some old games do have the superior version on GOG (or sometimes it's only on GOG, like Jazz Jackrabbit), but it's the exception in my experience
Wasn't one of Nintendo's points in the lawsuit that the Palword devs could never branch out anywhere? Did the Palworld devs just say "f*ck that" and do it anyway?
they are being sued for patent violation
they can still do collabs in the meantime 🙂
Yeah, and one of Nintendo's demands in the lawsuit was to get the Palworld devs to stop branching out with their game in any direction.
Did they? I don't remember any of that... but if they did, then I can't imagine that any of Nintendo's demands would go into action until after the whole thing is done assuming it's still ongoing
"Demands", thank you, that's the word I was looking for.
The weirdest part is that Nintendo is apparently specifically using versions of the patents from mid 2024, some say that these patents were apparently filed all the way back in 2021, but those aren't the ones being used for this lawsuit, so not only are they being super nitpicky assholes but they're also using versions of the patents they updated way after Palworld came out
I fucking lost it in the touhou discord server earlier
Fucking lunatic no bomb getting to me

Shes cute right
No shes the worst and I hate her
oof, lunatic with no bombs sounds infuriating
not for the faint of heart

for context cirno
is like not a difficult boss, the stage 2 boss. i mean obviously everything is non trivial at minimal the game is very hard but I literally will 9/10 in practice and I played runs for like 1 hour earlier and died to cirno like 6 times and started malding
Im not a big malder either this shit just got to me
U cant really afford to lose a life to her either so its reset randy hours
what makes her a hard boss
*⑨/10
nothing thats why i said shes not difficult
Its just like dumbass mental block shit like im very confident in her patterns but for some reason after playing through stage 1 and 2 i get into some weird headspace and die in dumb places
I mean like if you played it youd probably find it hard, even the easiest things in the game are easy to fuck up
look at this monstrosity

We got the floppy beaver, leadies, gentlemen and inbetween, we have peaked.
Interesting game of tetris : https://qntm.org/files/hatetris/hatetris.html
erasing 5 lines would be a good enough challenge
Heroes of Hammerwatch, after six years, enabled achievements for people using mods
started 1000xResist, loving it so far
finally got rabbit and steel legally, the game is great yall should play it especially if you like bullet hells
oh awesome, is it worth a pick up you think?
Free on prime
I hesitate to recommend it until I get to the end, since this is a game that's all about the story and that means how well it ties together later on is super important... but from what I played today, I have no reason to doubt it'll stick the landing
some good deals going on on Steam

Deus Ex, everytime you mention it, someone reinstalls it....
also rings true for Vampire Bloodlines
i wanna try out Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines but it's apparently finnicky to get working on steam deck
It's quite pricey for a game that's 20 years old, it remained consistently 20 dollars for quite some time now, it's on sale now though, 9 bucks, it's very much worth a purchase if you're interested in it, probably one of the best RPGs I've played and I got a lot of fond memories of it and Deus Ex, there's definitely some truth to the whole meme that you never quite stop playing them, you just take long breaks, everytime someone mentions it you get that itch to play it one more time
Can't say much about the steam deck experience though, but I'm sure there's resources on that
what is the finals ?
i still dont my goty of the games that actually came out this year
what
If you have nothing else to vote then vote the finals 🗣️
I have done my part for the cause 🗣️
I still have Mankind Divided to play, got it for $2.50 sealed so that worries me
This year sucks so much, that I don't want to vote
Only for Factorio as best supported game
You should be less negative
This year was one of the best years for videogames, if you were following the right companies
I mean, 2023 was where all the really heavy hitters were. 2024 was the slow-down year.
eh, maybe for AAAs, but this was a huge year for games I care about
it's like Windows versions: one great year, one meh year, one great year...
Pretty good year I agree, Factorio Expansion,Warhammer 40k, Metaphor...
True, the Factorio stuff was awesome.
Not as insane as 2023, like, if Spiderman 2 came out this year it would would have made a bigger splash, but it's just that 2023 was absolutely insane.
Helldivers and STALKER 2 (when that settles down a bit).
And POE 2 early access coming out in a few days
Which is looking like one the best games ever made
If you ask me
Also some surprise hits, like Konami actually being able to competently remake a game they already made
No one though it was possible
I thought people forgot about Spider-Man 2 rather quickly, despite the hype
but maybe it made a bigger splash among people who plat fewer games
I am making grabby hands at metaphor, but... 💸 . It looks so good
Now wait a fuckin' minute here...

Right?
Some designs are departures, but the elephant thing? Almost ripped right out of HZD concept art lmao
From the shots looks like some unholy fusion of HZD, Palworld, and Monster Hunter
The trailer I fuckin swear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IPmpZFdNP4
this is how genres evolve

I've seen this before.
the only game i really care about that came out this year is Balatro
is it good, idk anything bout it
ye
Balatro needs to win GOTY
It would be so fucking funny
I don't care for poker and I am hit and miss on roguelikes so I decided to skip that one
Happy that it's doing great tho
Balatro is less Poker more Slay the Spire
I havent even played Balatro
I have seen it played, I know how it works, poker is just immediatly unappealing to me even only as a theme.
No matter how mechanically competent it is, you aren't gonna play GTA if being a gangster doesn't sound like a fun time.
I did try GTA4 but just found it painfully mediocre compared to every other shooter (which I'm aware isn't the intended comparison point, but I can't get into open world-ness when the core gameplay it's made of is boring)
insert praying kid meme here
isnt the kid timmy turner

I can just imagine it: the host announces that Balatro wins, and the lone Balatro dev silently walks up onto the stage, grabs the mic, holds it super close, and says in a loud and crystal clear voice: "That's how you f*cking do it, Todd." Mic drop, peace sign, grabs the trophy, leaves, and doesn't elaborate.
wait was Balatro really a one man job
localthunk 💪
Wait until you hear about Undertale
yeah
Or Stardew Valley, Crystal Project
oops didnt mean to ping
lyras christmas
it's good
yeah I didnt know anything about Balatro, never heard of it til it was a nominee for goty
I'd heard of it from a few places
that's just the reality of indie games, if you're not actively looking out for them it's gonna be pretty much random when you hear of them
I first heard of Nine Sols because Flitter mentioned it was on their wishlist, and now it's my 2024 GOTY and one of my all-time favorites
Nine Sols is so good
I'm sorely tempted to try that level 0 final boss challenge people keep doing for Nine Sols, but for now I've got a few too many distractions to properly grind something like that
including modding Nine Sols
lot of games I hear first about were from this channel as well
but for today my distraction is probably gonna be the second half(?) of 1000xResist, speaking of 2024 indies
That game is on game pass now. I might try it
got Red Dead Redemption 1 and Balatro
Brotato is free on EGS
none of the GTA games were great for their gunplay, unfortunately
at least GTA IV is nice for its driving, though still inferior to Driver in my book. It's the closest the GTA series got to that personal gold standard
yay for free Godot games 😛
i like GTAV's gun play
Vice City has decent sounds for most of its weapons (autoshotgun in particular)
San Andreas did one step forward, two steps back on that... a lot of them sound awkward or poorly edited, cutting off too early
the animations when NPCs get shot also feel a lot more amateurish
what about GTA 3?
its weapon sounds are probably the least punchy of them all (except the M16), but at least it avoids the amateurish feeling that SA has
even at 30 FPS, the M16 is ridiculous, probably an example of the most overtuned gun in a GTA game to this day
GTA III/VC share the problem that the pistol is useless once you have other weapons though, since precise aiming is either impossible or discouraged (so you can't fish for headshots), and the maximum range is very limited
later games are better on this aspect
I have to give credit to GTA III for not having 150 variations of the same weapon at least. Functionality over form. 👀
Yeah but the 70s cop revolver stance on vice city though...
It may just be the different aesthetic but I did always feel like San Andreas had the size and scope but Vice City felt more polished in a way, even though it's technically worse and older, I don't know how to explain it but even as a kid I felt that way
I did always find it funny how many different weapons San Andreas had
there's like three different cheats to get three different sets of guns
this reminds me that in the recent update they did for the Definitive Edition they added moving while aiming to 3 and Vice City which is pretty neat
I don't know how much it breaks those games but it did always feel awkward even for the time
Aaaand that's persona 5 finished
110+ hours

I did follow a guide to max out stuff, and looking up an annoying boss' weakness spoiled me on the last palace. But still, that was a great game. I think 4 Golden still edges it out somewhat for me, I think I like the story better
Definitely eyeing the p3 remake and metaphor now, though 💸
Metaphor sounds exactly all I want from an Atlus game
For how much I liked p5, I must admit that a lot of the themes aren't exactly hitting home for me, the whole teen angst against the system and adults miss me, Metaphor tho, racial discrimination, political intrigue and stuff like that, sign me the fuck up
I will probably try to free up January and go to town on it
It's not even just that the themes of Metaphor are more adult, it handles things in a more adult way, it actually legitimately has really good compelling writing
To be clear, I do think p5 do have some pretty mature themes to it as well, and they are pretty well tackled most of the time, it's less consistent on it but especially when it involves the main characters arcs, it's pretty good with it.
It's just a bit more of a mixed bag
And yeah the teen angst usually misses me, which is a me thing, not necessarily a fault of the game.
I'm not the main demo for this
Also, ||Makoto|| is best girl
I should actually continue my playthrough of persona 3
It's not that Persona games don't tackle mature themes, but it's not nearly on the same level as Metaphor, things are handled very differently
I also really enjoy little gameplay improvements, you get pleeeeenty of time to finish any other side quest stuff at your leisure, social links and all those similar Persona mechanics are way better to level up, no need to do complicated guides to get as much as you can in one playthrough and answer specifically to get the most points like it's common in Persona, you just have to spend time with your squad and that's all you gotta do
a lot of those familiar systems are just done so much better it's less of a hassle overall as a game
It's just a dang good time, it's a solid ass videogame
I might try the Metaphor demo
The demo is a great way to get a feel for the game, it's much bigger than you'd expect a demo to be
It's like a good 6 hours so you get a lot of time out of it
One of my favourite things about the game that I didn't think I needed in an RPG is that: (very light gameplay mechanic no story spoiler) || once you're high level enough in a dungeon, any enemies below your level you don't even get into an encounter with, they just die after you hit them in the overworld and you get the results screen ||
Oh that's a nice quality of life feature
p5 kinda does that with the one hit kill mechanic
running over everything in mementos on one screen, youtube on the other
damn its 53 giggle bites
Also, having now played P4 and P5, I recognize how often Gigguk uses its music in his videos
iiuc multiple Personas have that mechanic as an unlockable social link bonus somewhere, while Metaphor has it by default, so that's still a significant improvement
In p5 it's getting ||Ryuji to rank 7||
ok yeah the ending was great too, 1000xResist is definitely a strong recommend for anyone who likes these narrative-focused games with minimal gameplay
oh awesome, thank you
I’m too indecisive so I need a second opinion, thinking of buying one of three choices on my PS5. I’m looking for a unique experience but am unsure what to get from these three games.
I could get OneShot World Machine edition, seems interesting but unsure if the ps port is good.
I could get System Shock Remake, not too different but it’d be really nice to see the unique environments.
Palworld, unsure about this game… it calls me but it also doesn’t. Never have played anything like it before so idk what to expect.
What do you all think I should go for?
im bias but palworld is amazing, one of my fave games, has a lot of content, and unmatched charm
I've only played OneShot on PC, it's a great game, though I'm uncertain about it running on consoles tbh (idk how much you know about the game, but the game mechanics would be more ideal to experience on PC imo)
I do not know anything about System Shock sadly
Palworld is an open world survival with crafting and building (on top of the whole monster catching stuff) if you're into base building/battling/grinding/etc it's a worthy investment, could get more hours out of it, in addition to an update already announced for the near future. It's also my recommendation
I mean, apparently the World Machine edition makes it work better on consoles but like I've said... no clue what the game is about besides being compared to Undertale & Deltarune.
But yeah, I'm starting to side with Palworld slowly...
I've seen OneShot played on console. They went above and beyond on making it work there
I guess, but I only see a PS4 port.
Can't seem to find a PS5 variant.
And I just remembered that Palworld is gonna be on Mac.
Although I do want to be on the living room so idk lol.
System Shock Remake is good but it's hard to look at it
uh, why
it's meant to have a modern retro aesthetic, and it does it very well in my book
it eschews the usual "pseudo-retro" problems I see in modern indie games
Oh shit, didn't realize it came out already
@quartz pawn please no clickbait
The game is free to play!
You are a beast hunter, conscripted against your will to participate in a most peculiar local custom: a tournament where participants race atop mysterious vehicles comprised of copper and steam.
It is also free on https://b0tster.itch.io/nmkart
You know what, maybe 2024 wasn't a great year for new releases
yeah...
Got gold on the AMES 85 and the C9 in BO6
there was a new zelda game
...Why is It Takes Two up there? Wasn't that 2021?
no that was it takes one
im excited for It Takes Three ngl
Steam only counts release date on steam
Oh, but it was released on steam in 2021. Weird!
I mean physically lol it looks pretty but it's literally harsh on my eyes
Arthur's conversation with Sister Calderon at the train station was heartbreaking
Is it possible for there to be a mlp g4 console/pc game like the last 2 g5 games?
I will always be disappointed that Hasbro had that chance when the show was at its peak popularity and never took it, they're doing some g4 stuff now again to my knowledge but even just one new game for g4 is just too unlikely
As far as new media is concerned, Hasbro has been done with G4 for a while
Personally speaking, I've yet to see an official game that does the universe justice and tries to take it seriously. Hasbro doesn't seem to be interested in that kind of game
While there's probably not going to be an official G4 game, there is a fan-made platformer called Rise of the Clockwork Stallions DX! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fYrMJ5TRVanK_alAC4_x2JoOpGeapWJP/view?usp=drive_link

Yeah, devstream was nice, the new frame looks actually fucking amazing
Sadly they are delaying the infested liches to 2025, but the rest is coming on time
Ye that's the boyband themed infested liches
Ah.
Because this game is weird af
If you notice, it's them, they are the liches, each of these is based on a member of the boyband

I really hope they play one of the songs when you go fight them because it would be very very funny
Seems like they have a whole album releasing with the update, like 10 songs, I don't even know why they are doing this
Also this update has literally a romance dating sim with some npcs.
Since Reb has taken over the team is just going, there is not stopping them
List of things you don't expect to see in your space ninja looter shooter game
For Soulframe they say sometimes in 2025 it will be open to everyone but still very early in development, but DE is notoriously slow with development, honestly expect it late in 2025 if at all
It’s good that it will be free to play like warframe but obviously there will be the Mtx
As long as they keep WF philosphy with those it'll be fine
Maybe a beta soon but we will see.
I'm legit very hyped for Soulframe, they have basically one story fight in the pre alpha, but it's all they needed to convince me that they are making something special.
if they manage to capture the moment multiple times it'll be quite something
I did the quest a while back with the ||horse|| which was fun
You mean the stag?

It's really good, yeah.
I really like the themes and all that, and the whole ancestors thing.
Right now just there isn't much there but with a few story quests, a bit more right of a combat system, and an actual way to make some build variety happen and it'll be off to the races
Ah, we're at that point in Nintendo's development cycle I see.
Where they get very antsy.
Oof. I have massively enjoyed Elden ring (except last dlc boss because fuck that noise). I just tried wukong. First side boss is a known asshole, try him a few times then skip him. Later try the first boss of the first zone... even that feels so stupidly hard. Too many animation locks and they hurt too much. The combat doesn't feel smooth. Guess i'm not playing this!
(shared from my fiancée's library so it's not like I paid for it~)

It's actually a very good game
So few games with vehicle combat nowadays
I greatly enjoyed playing it
It has the Arkham combat for the on foot combat which isn't special but it's pretty functional
But the vehicle combat is the highlight, you can harpoon pieces of other car and pull them off, throw explosive spears, it's great
steam version does seem to have denuvo, gog doesn't but doesn't go on sale either
It is a 2015 game, the denuvo extra load is unlikely to mean much for the performance of this one at least
Denuvo for a dead game. Odd
heavy RDR2 spoilers ||MICAH WAS THE FUCKING RAT||

;)
i found when i was fighting the bosses for my dad that its better to play aggressively, and iirc there's animation cancelling on perfect evade
in a way it kinda felt more like nier automata than dark souls
Nier was infinitely easier
i found it hard lol
there were a lot of cheap one hit kos in nier, so until i learnt that perfect evasion was required i kept dying over and over
wukong feels like nier in the sense that it awards aggression while i find dark souls / elden ring awards timing (although this maybe because i use collosal weapons / slowest weapons i could find)

were you playing on a super high difficulty or something? I don't recall having any trouble in either Nier unless I went somewhere I was wildly underleveled for
I played it on hard
The balancing is crazy in automata, hard and very hard isn't too different
I remembered when I played it on hard the first time (right after finishing normal) and putting it down because the difficulty spike put me off
Second time I tried it was last year and since I've forgotten what it was like on normal, I felt a lot less frustrated when it got to the harder stages (I had a lot of difficulty against ending A boss because hes filled of one hit Kos on hard)
I have to admit once I got to part 2 it got a lot easier, and part 3 unlocks a mode which essentially lets you cheese the rest of the game
I got an email that my headset is back from service on its way to me 💖

The screen looks uncanny to me
Why steamworld games are so underrated, like i never EVER heard of anyone talk about them , yet from the ones i have played (that being dig , dig 2 , the heist and build ) its a really charming series with a nice variety of genres and love and care put in each of them
i do have Steamworld Dig 2 installed still...
I tried Dig 2 because of Flitter lol
(got bored and dropped it pretty quick, but I did try it)
My favorite one is probably the heist
Really one of the best turn based strategies i ve played , great combat with zero random stuff , impactful shooting , a big variety in characters and just all an all a god damn great game
Heist is pretty good. I have not gotten around to trying Heist 2
This was passed to my friends groupchat
One of my friends said "Superliminal being relaxing to you makes a lot of sense for you" and I'm not sure how to feel about that
Don't think I can fill that up
it's a puzzle game with zero time pressure, that's honestly a totally normal answer
there are definitely spaces I would have nothing to put, especially "game you always come back to"
For me it's that it would take way too long to decide on which game
Yeah this took me 2 hours
if the grid means what I think it means, that's effectively the same as not having one such game
Especially for favorite game, and best OST
I'm definitely not including every game either
I'm very musically minded person, most of my favorite games have good soundtracks, the three I put there were me narrowing it down
yeah I could never pick one favorite game
and I never seem to have strong opinions about or memories of game OSTs
I have been rating every videogame OST that I bought
It was really hard for me to pick RDR2 as the number one
Minecraft is an extremely close second, if not tied
But I think RDR2 takes it for its amazing story and characters
Honestly if there was a single player version of RDO, with some more base game activities added, I'd put a fuck load of hours into that
RDR2 is so good
i should do the epilogue still
||Unshaken playing when Arthur dies gave me mad chills and i almost bawled||
||did you help John escape or go back for the money ?||
My 5 Star OSTs are A Hat in Time, Arcadia Legends, Buddy & Me, Closure, Darkest Dungeon, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Escape Goat 2, Final Fantasy 7, 8, 9, 10, Tactics A2, 6, Now, More than Ever, Frostpunk, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, Golden Sun 1 and 2, Hollow Knight, Ittle Dew, Jamestown, Joe Dever's Lone Wolf, Kentucky Route Zero, Monaco, Monster Sanctuary, Offspring Fling, Owlboy, Rain World, Risk of Rain, Savant - Ascent, Shatter, Stories: The Path of Destinies, Tangle Tower, Tangledeep, Teslagrad, Timespinner, Tiny & Big, Tinykeep, To the Moon, Toki Tori 2, Tooth and Tail, Torchlight 2, Trine 2, The Incredible Adventures of Val Helsing 2.
||escape, obviously||
hell yeah
@wind stump I noticed you're playing Steamworld Dig 2. Try double jumps: Press jump twice in two consecutive frames to get enough extra momentum to reach where you shouldn't be
I recommend binding jump to A and RB, and pressing both at around the same time to do it

I started a game of Myst III today because of the conversation here recently, but after getting to J'nanin, the hub Age, and solving the puzzles there to unlock the three main Ages of Voltaic, Edanna, and Amateria I...went to save my game but a dialogue asking for permissions popped up and I couldn't use my mouse. I ended up fixing it by force-quitting the game, which lost me all of my progress 🫠
imma get some hate for this one
Aaay, Descent
You...hate Mario? And Minecraft is your guilty pleasure?
I'm more confused than anything.
RIP cap
Can't tell what boss fight/art style are
boss fight: Kerrigan vs Amon (Starcraft 2 Legacy of the Void), art style Overload (from the makers of Descent)
I thought that the boss fight one was something from Starcraft. The eldritch face felt familiar.
How exactly do you fill one of these things in? I'm not good at photoshop or image-creation.
screenshot, then copy paste into ms paint?
I just opened up the template in MS paint, expanded it to like 3x width, and then kept copy-pasting images into the void space to the right. Then I'd cut/drag fragments into the spots they belonged in.

Alrighty, let's see if I can do this then
I explained it 3 comments before you asked the question
Some of these I just can't think of any examples
oh
i should pay more attention
Meanwhile in counter strike
did they jump off the map, and hit a Headshot?
I've faced a lot of tough and awesome boss fights but I can't figure out the best one so far.
Zag is a really good choice for fave protag
finished mine except fave villain and boss cus I couldn't think of any
GTA IV as a "you hate everyone loves" is interesting, considering a lot of people see it as the franchise's worst game
it quickly got a cult classic following since 2020 or so though
people probably realized GTA V went too arcade on many aspects
maybe i shouldve put san andreas there instead
i was gonna say i feel like everyone loves IV
im not a big GTA guy
thats what i thought too
yeah, San Andreas is the "universally liked" one by a wide margin
I know a good amount of people who consider it meh (or at least not as good as it's often hyped to be)
was gonna put RDR2 on that one, but i don't hate it, i just couldn't get into it
that might be a case of where the "everyone" is coming from
when GTA 4 came out, it was back when I paid attention to reviews, and all the review scores were wildly high
i might try RDR2 on pc. Part of the reason i couldn't get into it was because it was on the ps4 which was in my parents bedroom
i thought people liked Dying Light 2
I feel like relaxing/stressful are more genres than single games for me
and I don't think I have a guilty pleasure game
i chose Amnesia bc it genuinely stressed me out when i tried playing it
right, for me it'd just be the whole survival horror genre
I wouldn't say any one of my favorite horror games was dramatically more stressful than all my other favorites
not really no,has a bad reputation for being more similar to ubi games and also a rough launch, the dlc people wertent happy with either
Damn it, now I have a favorite boss fight, but I decided to change out my favorite villain because I feel there's muuuuch better than Eggman (even though I love that guy).
huh i didnt know that
despite that though,i do believe that techland made up for it plenty and have high hopes for the next game
Fortnite in "everyone loves" is a funny one since, I get it, the numbers it pulls in are absurd, but nobody I talk to likes it that much, even the people I know who've played it are lukewarm on the actual game
its a weird case, depending which community you are in its either highly hated or highly loved, most im in so far seem to love it
used to as well, but just dont like the new direction of it
I feel like a lot of AAA stuff has those strong fractal community polarization effects where often the game is pretty solid but in a subgenre that's new to some groups but played to death for others
oooh life is strange is a good one
like, not everyone has played enough Ubisoft-style open worlds to be sick of them yet
life is strange is too good for its own good, shit left me as an emotional wreck for ages
this is not true, i saw people complaining about Ubisoft open worlds back in 2016
meanwhile Life is Strange is polarizing because not everyone finds high school teenagers relatable lol
that doesn't contradict what I said?
idk what other way i could read that
I relate to not finding high school teenagers relatable
not everyone plays every game
even when I was in highschool, since I was homeschooled
OH i see now
some people played enough open worlds to be sick of them when the term had barely been invented, some still haven't played any
like how I've never played any farming sims
well yeah, "everyone" isn't literal
that also sounds like objecting to a thing I didn't say so probably we're too deep in missed context to recover that one
does the misunderstanding dance
I 100%'d Spider-Man Remastered, but that's because I barely play any Ubisoft-style open world games, so I'm not too jaded when I play one
it's kind of like BotW, you are not meant to play it back-to-back with ToTK 🙂
(let alone 100% either of them...)
tbf that was also an unusually good one, I 100%'d it because nearly all the content was actually fun
Spider-Man 2 in January ☃️
is it? cant say i've been in many LiS discussions but i also ahvent really heard of anything but love for the game((atleast the first one) before the storm doesnt exist)
BotW and TotK I did not 100% but those are very clearly not meant to be 100%'d in any strong sense by a sane human lol
I have yet to play Miles Morales, will do once it gets on sale
oh right i have to play that one too
I've seen a lot of strong opinions both ways
I've only watched an LP of the first game and its prequel myself, but I immensely enjoyed those
I think I'm roughly halfway through in BotW, I play it in small doses here and there
i sometimes enjoy Ubisoft-style open world games
I think the "all the characters are just insufferable" take I've seen is one that just doesn't lead to discussions, so it makes sense that it wouldn't show up in a lot of LiS-related places
im still in the middle of true colours, need to get back to it at some point but just a lot of other shit to do
not all of them tho
my usual issue with "open world" games is that in practice they're often "a good game that keeps turning into Hold W Simulator for 10 minutes between pieces of actual content"
rdr2 horseys my beloved
the most egregious example would probably be Halo Infinite, compared to Halos 1-5 it just feels like they took half a dozen of the good levels and copy-pasted them 100 times to make a new game; what's there is fine but doesn't hold a candle to any of the previous entries
Torrent Eldenring my beloved
thats one of the reasons why i think the ubi-like criticism isnt too applicable for dying light 2,cuz it makes that part of the game engaging and fun most of the time
lol Papers Please be like that
yep, the DL2 praise makes sense to me even if I haven't played it
if you hyper optimise everything it can be just W sim,but in a regular playthrough its unlikely to get to that point naturally
i reach some sort of level of zen in that game
the open worlds that I like are usually smaller indie ones with some traversal mechanics more interesting than Hold W Simulator
A Short Hike and The Pathless being my go-to examples
HOW DID HALF LIFE NOT MAKE MY CHART
I did have a lot of fun with BotW, TotK and Witcher 3, but in those I still often felt like I was "putting up" with the open world rather than enjoying the open-ness, it wasn't an asset so much as it didn't hurt enough to bring down the good parts
ok imagine Half Life Alyx where Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines is
BotW positively surprised me with its immsim-lite aspects
yeah, that definitely helped
I'm pretty sure I solved a puzzle or two in unintended ways
i don't think ive ever played an immersive sim
i do like how echo point nova was with its open world, just wish the movement mechanics had a lil more depth and ability to exchange skill for flow
immersive sims are a weird one, it's hard to figure out what even counts sometimes
like I played System Shock 2 once and I did have fun with it, but not immersive sim fun, "just" sci-fi FPS fun
so for me (original) Deus Ex and Prey (2017) are the only two clear-cut cases of immersive sims I've personally played (and would recommend)
what the fuck does immersive sim mean?
it's a game genre that is about systems behaving predictably, letting you approach problems in various ways
stealth is often a core component of these games, so games like Thief are stealth games, but also immersive sims
oh ok
System Shock is a good example too (made by the same studio as Thief)
to me the hallmark of a good immersive sim is that every problem the game throws at you has multiple solutions, typically you'd have a talk-y solution, a sneak-y solution, a shoot everyone solution, and several in-between options like laying traps before shooting
immersive sims generally avoid special cases as much as possible, such as invincible NPCs and so on, to give you an experience that feels realistic and grounded in reality. You can do silly things, but you'll pay for the consequences
oh wait i played a bit of Prey 2017 that's sort of an immersive sim right ?
and that basically requires the game to have multiple genres of mechanics available to give you a wide range of options with
I feel like I've heard people call Dishonored an immersive sim? again it's really hard to tell where the line is
(it's also why immsimms can struggle with avoiding dead ends and softlocks too, Strife has a lot of that)
yeah Prey 2017 is one of the few clear-cut cases, if that doesn't count nothing does
Finally done:
in Strife, if you pick the wrong dialogue option in the first 5 minutes of the game, you are permanently softlocked and nothing in the game tells you about it (other than the guards having aggro on you indefinitely)
minecraft stress is so real
REALLY recomend finding the opportunity to play hades eventually, its insanely good
I like how CoD is the ultimate scapegoat 😛
Based FF9 story enjoyer
The Bioshock one is the entire collection. The whole series has an absolutely brilliant story.
whos the villain :o
(I unironically want to try out its various campaigns eventually)
Minecraft being here 5 times is so based
Arthas from Warcraft. Brilliantly-written, tragic hero-turned-villain.
CoD is a funny one because I'm a huge fan of the first game (and its expansion pack), but especially after 4 it became a typical "'everyone' loves, I don't care" game like so much of AAA
oh i know what i shouldve put for everyone loves and i hate. i shouldve put Hades
I just looked, and it's apparently only $14 CAD right now thanks tot he sale. Looks like I'm getting it. :P
Bioshock is really excellent too, if "favorite setting" was a category Bioshock would win
Infinite Warfare's campaign is quite good IIRC, it was really divisive at launch but many people grew to like it
i build my own rapture back in 2016 on Minecraft WiiU edition
I don't think I'm gonna get one of these filled out because I can't think of anything to put for over half the spaces
(every time CoD tries something new, it's very divisive :P)
yeah it's well past the popularity level where it can't do anything remotely interesting without upsetting a large number of people
ive never been a multiplayer person so CoD has never really appealed to me (and now that ive put so many hours in Doom and Half Life they feel dreadfully slow
)
hence the best CoD is Spec Ops: The Line
I hope someone noticed what I did for best art style. :P
I dont get it :(
I should probably mention that the first CoD was a single player WW2 shooter, multiplayer was barely a thing at the time
of course everything that was interesting and innovative in the original CoD has since been beaten to death, but that's what happens to good games
(see: everyone who plays Half-Life 1 or 2 and says "meh")
BF had more popular multiplayer back then, with BF1942, BF1943 then BF2
I cut the Octopath Traveler cover in half, and used a poster from Octopath Traveler 2 to complete it, indicating that both games have the best art style. Unfortunately I couldn't line them up properly and after about 10 tries I just gave up and left it as it is now.
people who say meh to Half Life 1 or 2 are genuinely insane to me. i only first played those games in 2022 and they absolutely blew me away
yeah, I can only rationalize it as not everyone is blown away by quality of execution, some things necessarily become less interesting when you've seen other games copy them, even if the copies were inferior
admittedly I have not played HL1 or 2 in a very long time, so it's hard to know how it'd apply to me personally
Solidarity ok like 5 of them
but I expect I'd still mostly like them as much as I did the first time, with only minor losses to the ravishes of time, e.g. some of HL2's physics puzzles were
at the time and are
today
Why'd I think of Zag from Angel Hare first-
RDR2 being in best artstyle is simply because there were a few times where seeing distant vistas made me misty eyed
utterly gorgeous game
(I'll probably never play RDR2 or most other Rockstar games because points at everything I said about open worlds above)
if you've played a Rockstar game in the past and didn't like it yeah i wouldn't recommend it
yeah GTA4 for me was a textbook case of "I guess people really like the open world-ness of this because for me it's just mediocre gunplay with a lot of Hold W in between content"
Arthur Morgan my beloved
||i love him so much, it's gonna be hard moving onto the epilogue and RDR1||
||It's also gonna be hard because you know you just have a bunch of farm work and like 2 actual fights ahead||
oh no
||well i guess that makes sense since John wants to lay low||
||will i actually be able to kill Micah as John in the epilogue or do i have to wait for RDR1 to do that||
i need to finish rdr2 so damn bad, keep getting spoiled on it a lot but luckily gold fish memory saves the day and i just forget it
Do you want spoilers?
||you can kill him, and shooting him isn't a cut scene, so you can shoot him wherever you want with whatever you want, including a dynamite arrow to the crotch||
fuck yeah

Took me a minute.
holocure mentioned 🗣️

starcraft 2 is free, at least the first one
I knew ST1 was, I didn't know ST2 went f2p as well!
there are pieces of SC2 that are F2P from what I understand. Not every campaign and not every coop commander, but some of them.
Oh man, I need to play Sea of Stars
Actually i'm pretty sure starcraft 1 is not free at all. Starcraft 2's first release is, the two xpacs after are not, I think?

It's REALLY good.
SC1 became entirely free after remastered was released
Unfortunately they didn't do the same thing with WC3
looks like SC2's F2P setup:
- Wings Of Liberty campaign is free; the other campaigns are $15 each or $40 for all 3
- ranked multiplayer ladder is free but requires some unranked play
- All coop commanders are free up to level 5. Raynor, Kerrigan, and Artanis are free to max level.
Although. if you DO get a Starcraft 1 disk, just use the admin CD code 121212121212121
And released one of the worst remasters ever
Though I believe remaster of SC is pretty good and is 10$?
(and there's also the Carbot skin)
The best part of SC2's F2P setup is that Arcade is free
Aren't there only 3 campaigns? Why would you spend $40 when you can get WoL free?
Are you ready to go all the way? StarCraft: Cartooned is available now!

Oh yeah, forgot that was a thing
I am still impressed that this guy was able to just wiggle his entire art style into an official AAA game studio.
4 total campaigns, though Nova Covert Ops is from what I understand a little shorter than the other 3
Ooooooh right, forgot about that one too
(I don't have N:CO because I don't really care for Nova and hadn't gotten back into SC2 much until after I ran out of money. No work for a year really sucks.)
hopefully the quality is fine enough
PALWORLD MENTIONED
hopefully, Ive been meaning to find a good emulator, preferably with console commands (or whatever the term is)
I don't think that's possible unfortunately
The way how they are designed makes it very hard to combine together
Make a pokemon 'It Takes Two' where there are two protagonists that you have to switch between so each of you can smack N like he deserves.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NRvIHCrOOQ A surprisingly good scam somehow
Hello everyone and welcome to another Budget Builds Episode, where today we're kicking off the run up to Christmas with the first of the scams that are coming your way, this time with one of the most ambitious graphics card scams i've seen yet. With Nvidias RTX 4090 being "replicated" for the low low price of $30...The question is if you order o...
It's not a 4090 but.. It's still very cheap, for a card that can play older games on high settings, and max graphics on crysis with 60 fps
Metaphor finished, that's probably my goty
these fucking options
At least the money one is realistic.
Yeah
Man, Dome Keeper is a really good game
I just lost but I'm already ready to try again
man the more i think about it i feel like Rdr2 could fit in favorite game of all time
here's my take on that "favorite ___" thing
to the moon holds a special place in my heart
isaac is my favorite game I can come back to replay, but to the moon holds that title by far
if there was a "favorite all rounder" game thing, isaac would take that title
Haven't seen a To The Moon reference in the wild in a long time.
Yanno what. I wanna see flitter's
Ahhhhhh! How did I miss this!?!?! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuy2XXuAvyY

here's one made by a friend of mine
I'm thinking of doing it, but I would have the same game for a lot of them
Even my relaxing and stressful games would be the same
I think a lot of these would have l4d2
Also I don't have an image editor and idk how to fill it in
pretty much. i did this one some time ago in gummy's server n a good chunk of them were final fantasy xiv
my relaxing and stressful game was Papers, Please
I just used MS Paint, copied pics from google images and just resized them, didnt rly try hard to make it look perfect
i used gimp
I don't have ms paint, I'm on macOS
is there like a MacOS Paint
damn
I could try gimp though
It's kinda funny, I have software to make music by default but nothing to edit images
paint.net has my pic edit stuff covered, but i do (or at least did) use it frequently

so far i have enjoyed Stalker 2
I want to get Stalker 2 just because I never got to be part of the whole stalker craze, but god damn 160 gb is just too much
it took like 3 hours to download on my pc
2 hours in no idea what tf I gotta do
Lore accurate Stalker experience
i never played the first one
It's jank but it's fun, I never finished it though
in the first 20 minutes of the game i got jumpscared by different enemies twice
Yeah that's gonna happen
The zone does not forgive or care
They released trilogy on Xbox and promised to make remasters I think which you'll get when you buy the trilogy (it will change into new). Which is weird a bit. I always thought of those games as being very PC games and it was a big surprise on one of the games events on youtube
What a good list!
Thanks
I agree with Stardew Valley being stressful, and it shouldn't be!
Stardew is more stressful in MP because it doesn't pause while in menus. Less stressful in SP, or with a time-stretch mod.
I presume many problems can be fixed with mods, unfortunately not on consoles
There's a lot of games in contention for best soundtrack, favorite boss fight, game you always come back to, and other good games that don't fit in any category
I do use a mod that fixes Stardew Valley so it's less stressful
I'd never play it without
Favorite villain caught me by surprise
It's an amazing enemy
Not a very good boss fight, but it more than makes up for it with the context
Crystal Project, CrossCode, and Risk of Rain look interesting
They are great
It's far too late at night to give this topic justice, but here's the summary (for everyone to read):
In Final Fantasy 8, you play as a teenage mercenary about to take their practical final exam. You are sent to free the independent duchy of Dollet under occupation by the army of Galbadia. In there, you learn that the purpose of the occupation is to control the last radio tower in the world.
Your squad leader defies order and climbs up the mountain path to the radio tower, barely failing to stop the tower from going active. At that point in time, you receive orders to retreat at once, but your retreat is impeded by a black widow, an invincible, self-repairing machine of war capable of outrunning and outgunning anyone. You only have thirty minutes to make it all the way down the mountain, through town and to the beach before they leave you to die in occupied Dollet.
The robot, X-ATM092 ambushes you at the radio tower exit and forces you to fight. If you deal 20% of its HP in damage, it temporarily falls down and enters repair mode, at which point you have about twenty seconds to escape or else it'll come back at full health. It's quickly obvious that you cannot win this fight, and so you must flee.
The boss gives chase as you run all the way to the beach, often jumping to cut you off. Whenever it catches up to you, you are forced to put it back into repair mode before you can run again. If you make it to the end, your superiors cover for you using the superior power of the troop lander's machine guns as you enter the lander and leave Dollet.
After you return, you learn that Dollet has struck a deal with Galbadia. Galbadia will withdraw its troops in exchange for permanent control of the radio tower. More importantly, you pass your exam! You're graded by how fast you retreated after being given the order, how many battles you've had, whether you've escaped from any fights, whether you've defied orders or behaved inappropriately, and other factors.
If that was all there is to it, it would be a pretty cool part of the game, but there's more! In reality, the boss can be defeated! The game never tells you this, but with careful preparation and experimentation, you can learn that the boss may only activate its self-repair mechanism five times in a fight. For each time you trigger the boss's self-repair and escape, you are awarded 50AP, a normal boss's worth of AP. This allows you to teach your guardian forces every ability they have at the beginning of the game. Additionally, beating the boss will award you with 100 bonus points on your final exam, which determines your starting wage as a mercenary. The game never tells you that!
Oh also, @static bluff ping
Hell yeah that makes me feel better actually lol
Reading
Oh nice!
I remember hearing from my friend who tends to lie that he beat that boss and I didn't believe him. Maybe he was telling the truth, haha
That same friend borrowed my copy of Legend of Dragoon and broke the third disk, but tried to hide it when he gave it back.
Yeah, that's exactly why I like this boss
The game makes it obvious that you cannot fucking kill it
It lies!
Shame. Dragoon was a fun game.
That said, I had a memory card delete itself twice while I was playing it years ago and the game itself crashed during the end credits.
have any of you guys played Baldur's Gate 3 and if so do you recommend it ? i think GT has
Oh my god the amount of times I launched it and tried to understand
Me with the Witcher games
I highly recommend it. Fantastic soundtrack, fantastic writing, fantastic dialogue, fantastic voice acting, fantastic gameplay (if you like turn-based RPGs, that is), tons of detail, tons of options and play styles, tooooooooooooooons of replayability, and, above all else, it's gay as hell .
But like Mega said though, it's very story-heavy and story-driven, requiring you to pay attention and make choices that can either send you to the endgame or give you a violent and bloody end, so if you don't vibe with that, then it might not be a good choice for you.
I think it's for very smart people
That I disagree with
It's D&D 5E
If you're vaguely familiar with that, and like it, then you're fine
You can kill your way through the game if you want lol
i just finished a story heavy game but idk if BG3 is heavier, but i will take this into consideration. apparently it works pretty good on the deck except for act 3 but apparently that doesn't run well for anybody
Maybe my problem is I don't get what they're talking and are on about. I have problems following and focusing
Act 3 is in a city
It's very busy
Nah, anyone can play it. It's very numbers-heavy, but it's not hard to get the hang of it.
I'm dumb, and I figured it out, although I suppose I had help seeing as I was already playing D&D 5e at the time.
There's no shame asking for help either
ive listened to an actual play podcast and played like 3 sessions of DnD is that enough context
Lol
Well if what Cap is talking is RDR2 I understood all. In BG3 I lost all understanding. And I played dnd before
Yesh, the beginning is very confusing, but things start to fall into place as the game goes on. But like I said, the story requires you to pay attention, so if you aren't a fan of that, that's okay, the game might not be a good fit for you.
I know lots of people who couldn't get into it, and that's okay!
But every now and then I try to play it again. Because I know it's super important and good game
And I will
Don't feel obligated to play something you don't enjoy just because people say it's a good game.
People say that Elden Ring is a masterpiece, but I have no interest in it.
I will surprise and I will understand and play
It might be enough for the basics, but it should be noted that Baldur's Gate 3 plays slightly differently from the tabletop game because of how it needed to be translated into a video game. Still mostly the same though, just slight tweaks.
i see
I wish I could feel attachments to games like people get attached to games like ER or BG3
im really bad at making my own character in games
I'm the same
Only problem in BG3 is and I don't want to sound silly, they talk complicated so much
I feel that
I have a feeling like I want to choose whatever I feel at a moment, but then I am afraid I will make wrong choices
Like all companions will think I am dumb and they will think damn that's our leader okay
was there a game where you just re-created Mario
I mean, it literally took me an hour to design my character in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. Just because it takes a long time doesn't mean you're bad at it.
i tried to in Skyrim but couldn't figure out what armor to wear (two handed build focused on hammers, with fire magic)
The good thing about BG3 is that all the companions are different. Some love chaos and odd decisions, some love taking an aggressive and more malicious stance, some love being good guys, and some literally don't care as long as they get paid.
Knowing you, you're likely to choose the good choices and be a good person, or try to, which will get you pretty much all the companions on your side save for the truly irredeemable ones (who are locked behind evil playthroughs anyway).
If you're thinking what's the "best" option, you're playing wrong
I have the sane issue tho lol
That gives me hope to play 💖
That's exactly why I didn't buy BG3
So talking what you think at the moment is okay?
I think it's more interesting to play co-op tho maybe?
There's no "wrong" option
What if you and player differ in options of what to say?
Then you're humans
Honestly, when it comes to making decisions in BG3, the "best" thing to do is to insert yourself into your character. What would you do? What does your gut say you should do?
Don't be like me and save-scum every decision to make sure it's the best one, lol. Just (literally) roll with it.
I often disagree with my gut feeling 80% of the time; I have a hard time doing games like that
I don't want to regret while playing a game, and I am also a min-max player, so I'm instantly not a BG3 player
You also said there is tons of replayability, that makes me even less worried about talking what I think when I have to
I'm happy I jumped into talk about BG3
Disagreeing with your gut is an option too. Larian put a looooot of detail into this game, and they've thought of everything.
People are still discovering easter eggs, hidden content, hidden dialogue trees, secret characters, and more.

Like, there's several points where you can kill a brigand only to find a note in his jacket saying that he's on his last thieving job before he retires with his wife and son, or that he's actually a former paladin who was theown out of his order, or that he's a failed cultist trying to regain his prestige.
And like, shit, you were defending yourself, but you also kinda feel bad.
And then you loot his corpse for that sweet sweet gooooooold.
That's the kind of detail Larian put into the game. They thought of everything.
it's turn based like the board game right ?
I really want to try getting into BG3 as well, but I tried like, on 5 different occasions and none of the attempted play-thrus feel good to me
Turn-based, yes. But not exactly like the table top game. Try looking at a gameplay video.
One of the sad parts is that people hyping BG3 so much actually damaged my view on the game
That really wants to make me try for once and for good without worrying
If I get bad ending or something I don't care, I want to try my way at least once
I hate bg3
It's shit
Never play it
ok i'll report back in like 2 minutes
have fun
i like the pretty red lady with the horns
Honestly tho I think if folks (like me) struggle with the game, agonising over every choice, it might be best to play co-op. You have someone to talk to about your choices, less likely to reload, someone to help keep you on track and and division of labour in combat
Karlach is the best
Karlach, the Tiefling barbarian muscle mommy who loves chaos, having fun, beating the shit out of baddies, and being an all-round adorable little goofball who wants to be held. I love her, she's amazing.
What character did you play, GT and Mega?
I played as a custom character.
Yes but what
You don't have to choose any of the default characters.
Yes no why would one in dnd
Oh, as in class and race and all that?
Yes
Githyanki monk, and I romanced ||Lae'zel||
Oh there's non binary
My first playthrough was a red male Dragonborn rogue. I had started a second playthrough but didn't get far due to me having to uninstall the game because I needed the disk space for my computer (it takes like 150 GB of space). I'm not sure who I had for my second playthrough, but she was a Paladin.
Shadowheart
Okay both of you why? If you want to say
I started a single player game as karlach but didn't finish it
Was playing in a group of 3 and decided to be support
No reason why for me, just wanted to play a red Dragonborn and was curious to see how a rogue played.
This group ended prematurely too actually
One of the players was kind of an asshole
I haven't left area 1, ever
was he playing Astarion~
Oof, sorry to hear that
No
The human was just an ass
Off with his head!
I think druid because magic of nature. And nature is biggest magic of all 💖 and maybe elf because they're fragile and like bows and I like distant weapon if I have to use weapon and so it's best as me I think
This week's prime games
I recommend Shogun Showdown
ive heard good things abour Dredge
I reccomened Overcooked 2
If you like bows and nature, I would suggest Ranger. You can even get an animal companion! But Druid has magic and can turn into animals (and talk with them), so that'd be cool too.
But choose what you like! :)
Overcooked 2 is good with friends and fine alone
I was thinking ranger let me look
There's a point in the game where you can choose two options
One of my friends said "let mega make the choice"
The other, without even asking or letting anyone know what they were doing, ran ahead and chose instead
Note, both had completed area one before and knew what the choice was
Dredge overstays its welcome
I suggest monk because monk has the best chapter 3 interaction
Lol
Monk no you have to be jacked

Many monks are thin and frail
They have spiritual energy instead of physical strength
How if they fight with body
I mean. My monk was punching for massive damage.
Oh okay
Granny would kick your ass for saying that, lol
(In-joke, for anybody curious.)
Granny can't even punch my ass with how short she is
Has +2 to slipper throws you mind your mouth
She can jump-kick
Actually, that'd be kinda funny. You should give Granny proficiency with throwing weapons but only for her cookies, and like a magic missile it bypasses armor class to deal...1 point of damage, and only 1 (it disregards all other bonuses).
Completely useless, but perfect for flavor text and for her character.
Like in Fallout she randomly appears like Mysterious Stranger and throws a cookie to deal this one more point of damage and knock unconscious
And disappears like Trixie
I'm sorry I'm making a ranger and is it important to what my character has down there or not
Adding "improvised weapon food fighting chef" to my list of D&D chars
Why give me a choice?
The choice is there for anyone who wants it. For you, it might not matter. But for non-binary or transgender people, it's a well-deserved piece of validity for them.
Does it change things in game or is about character?
It changes...certain romance scenes (there is on-screen sex and nudity in this game, just FYI), but it changes nothing about gameplay.
Okay thank you

Since I am switching to linux for gaming, I am curious to see how many games won't work due to anti cheat or any other issues.
It feels bad potentially leaving behind games and to never play them, especially if a friend asks me to play something that I can't. But I don't want windows anymore.

If you're not technically minded, basically anything in ProtonDB will work as described, and anything else might or might not.
Looking on protondb makes me worried
Some people seem to have issue running derail valley
Look at the page to see what people ran into, and their setup to see if yours is similar
I literally am
Sounds good! You have a complete picture of it then
You can ctrl+F for "Tinker steps" to see which tweaks people used.
I'm not mobile right now
And idk, some people say you need to use some launch option and then some say low fps
Yeah, it depends on the operating system and the hardware they use
I'll try it. I'm installing bazzite tomorrow. If it has issues I can just go back to windows.
Linux varies a LOT more than Windows, which varies a LOT more than consoles
Ah I see
So some setups will work perfectly out of the box, and some won't run anything
It depends on the software and hardware you have
But the Steamdeck should be most compatible
I assume bazzite would be good because the purpose of it is games
Bazzite won't change your hardware
I guess but the hardware is the same as every other rog ally owner
And I mean everyone says great things about bazzite. Some peoole say it is just games with invasive anti cheat that don't work.
I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding the issue
Am I?
Yeah, the issue here is that the software and hardware are not designed directly for each other
Bazzite is designed in such a way that it'll work fine for a large variety of hardware setups, not for just one
That means compatibility will have to be slightly lower as a tradeoff
Interesting.. But then how does windows get compatability so good?
The games are built expecting Windows
Aah yeah
They hook up directly into Windows functions and so on.
I'll try bazzite anyway. If I have any issues with it I can go back to windows.
Though I already take issue with windows a lot
The closest thing on ProtonDB to Bazzite compatibility is Fedora 41
(Or Bazzite itself if mentioned)
I see
Oh also
Sometimes if you run into issues with a Linux-native game, it might actually work better if you play the windows version via Proton
This sometimes happens because the game's developers messed up a bit
Eheh I see. That is interesting
I'm sure I'll be happy with it. Will be much better then windows for what I do.
Yeah, good luck! It runs pretty fine!

This video is just a proof-of-concept and has no relation to the current GTA5 port, which is still being worked on, the map had to be moved since it would crash the game if not, that explains why water planes aren't there or are way too below...
This is nuts, the place looks awesome, the zombies look maybe even a bit too frightening but I'm looking forward to test myself in scary situations in a safe environment
Well the map will be very dense so not much room
which is a good demonstration of why it’s so hard to justify the porting effort as an independent dev
Looks like PSO2 is collabing with Melty Blood. Neco-Arc approaches. You are not safe.

Yup. It's a B E E G game
relatable 😛
free Bounty Hunter, omg!! thanks for posting 🙂
I bought Forza Horizon 4 since its delisting is imminent. I don't think it'll get any cheaper, but there's still 12 days to go (so I could always refund if that happens)
FH4 is super super cool, especially with how the weather changes 💖 We could race sometimes if you want. I'm not the best but I got the spirit
sure
i tried looking up the biggest games, maybe not the largest but wtf
Did you not get it for free? They gave everyone that owned it a free copy
Did you play 5?
Yes, also super fun and you don't have to remember to be on the left side of the road
For me basically the same games, but 4 has seasons and 5 has right side driving
both are great fun and look pretty
I just use both sides going the opposite way

I've never bought a Forza game before, so no
and I didn't have friends/family with the game
(something about racing games not being that mainstream. :P)
He’s so cool
Ah right. But it is a good game I highly recommend it
@random steppe In case you missed it.
Oh I heard they were doing it, I will check it... Honestly I think their flight mod is already pretty decent but I won't say no to improvements
Also finally adds DLSS and FR3, so more frames.
I don't know if it'll work that way for me sadly
That game tended to be more CPU bottlenecked than GPU
Given its galaxy sim nature
Fair, but maybe it will actually give you a chance to visit that uber station you've built but can't visit because of frame issues. /s
I love everything they are saying, less manouverability for large ships rewards turning off flight assist, which is easly the most fun way to fly in the game
Seems like it'll be a banger update
less go getting RNG unlock requirements in a regular run
i unlocked him on like my first run,rn it was the low drop rate for him
currently 100% the game for like the third time, did it on xbox, epic games, and now fresh on steam
AND DOUBLE CHEST ROOM WHAT IS THIS LUCK
unfortunately though no good boss killers or room clearers yet but by this point the entire game is clearable with default gun
fair enough
killed hunter's past, unlocked paradox,ox's arm,and a shortcut elevator in a single run so doing pretty good progress already
was gonna say maybe it takes them playing arcade machines way back when into account but then I see the "past 6 months"
whered you find this
i guess i do love adventure games the most
A lot of games I play are not arcade games but retain the arcade feel
i dont like fighting games though so that was inaccurate to me
heh, racing only made it to the top 3 thanks to gen alpha
I'm quite surprised, I expected racing to be more popular among gen X and Y
i never know how to apply myself to this kind of "here's a thing generations do differently". because that is like. so culturally dependent?
like "millennials" and "gen x" and so on terms are really usa-centric and i have more in common childhood-staples-wise with americans that are like, 40 than i do with people my age, simply because technology traveled so much slower back in the day
"do you remember ds" no, we had polish bootleg nes with only duck hunt on it. "do you remember playin pokemon platinum as a kid" no. my brother emulated gold on computer. and such
polish bootleg NES is a certified EU classic, carried me through so many early years
we love you pegasus
1000 in 1 cartridges too
no :c only duck hunt
i think it was supposed to be able to do more, but it could only run duck hunt
aww,i've had one with duck hunt only too but the gun was never working
not that i know exacts i was like 5
one of the best early gaming memories i have is taking a bootleg NES handheld to hospital and playing it after surgery at like 5yrs old
meanwhile the millenial column seems about right for me
I've mostly fallen off shooters since my teenage years but they were a big chunk of it for a long time
is adventure even really a genre anymore?
doesnt that encompass like, anything with a story attached
yeah I have no idea what the scope of that would be
Yeah I was about to say, adventure is so broad that IDK how to feel about it
Like would both Elden ring and Methapor would arguably fit in that
GTA is an adventure game
Adventures in crime!
most of my metroidvanias fit "adventure" better than any of the other genres in that image
I'm curious if puzzle platformers fall into "puzzle" or "adventure"
Makes me think the most of Tomb Raider, Uncharted, God of War, Spiderman, The Last of Us
Funny how the background in the image implies adventure = soulslike
probably reasonable, whatever "adventure" means, soulslike is probably a subgenre of it
soulslike is when I die a lot because timing parries is hard
Parries are optional in all of them but Sekiro
and if we're including 2D metroidvanias, also Grime and Nine Sols
I should play Dark Souls sometime
parry only build?
Parry this you filthy casual (is playing Mario oddesey)
There are bosses with no parriable attacks
I feel like I'd either love it or absolutely hate it
ig lxrec would have to cheat and parry whenever possible, and play normally whenever there's an enemy who cannot be parried
I was lukewarm on Dark Souls 1 at first. After a few years I came back to it and loved it
I prefer Dark Souls 3 to DS1
parrying black and silver knights is so fun
Yeah but I played Dark Souls 1 first
i remembered i used the black knights at the kiln to practice parries lol
A thing to keep in mind for souls, is that they have an adjustable difficulty level and that is the build you decide to use. If you ever play one never let the Internet tell you what you have to use in order for it to count as a proper playthrough, and you have a better chance of having a good time.
Bad idea. Silver knights have the same moveset and much lower damage. They're the ideal practice dummies for parrying
i also played ds1 first and it felt more memorable compared to ds3
Yeah, use every tool the game gives you!
ohh i didnt know, i was like "today i want to learn to parry" and had a lot of time lol
In DS1 i got stuck at the bell gargoyles
honestly i had to resort to mimic tear and spamming lions claw on my giant crusher build because i was getting tired of the play length of elden ring
I don't know if I would have the patience tbh
It is extremely valid to challenge yourself to a melee only no summon playthrough, the illusion of that being the proper way to play tho is just weird. It is a very rewarding way to play and it's fine to encourage people to try it but that's as far as that should go.
It does need both patience and willingness to experiment
If you don't have both, you might need a guide to play the game in a way you enjoy
i remembered godskin duo and me and my clone would do back to back lions claw... it was glorious
Lol I never got to experience the horror of pre-nerf godskin duo
The closest I've played to one is maybe Ocarina of Time
i cant remember if i fought them pre nerf, i think it was a week after launch when i fought them
It's a lot of fun if you play with a friend next to you who can tell you what not to do and guide you when you're frustrated
i started the game off with int build and the magic katana thing but then i missed ooga booga mode and made a strength character afterwards
Yeah that'd be pre nerf
I couldn't play the game at launch because my computer wasn't good enough
Sad!
Ocarina of Time is similar to Dark Souls in certain aspects, but I wouldn't call them close
