Check out the Scaravan 66 announcement trailer for this upcoming car combat roguelike game. In Scaravan 66, put the pedal to the metal and outgun the Devil. Get that extra bit of horsepower from allies you meet on the road to take on the fiends of the underworld as you defy fate and anyone who stands in your way. Scaravan 66 will be available on...
in a nutshell: its still not great
Rockstar should’ve been the one to make it when it got remastered.
about time
i played the demo for stellar blade, it felt kinda like god of war where you use skills to stun/deal big damage compared to automata/mgr
It should feel like Automata given the person behind the story is like best friends with the person behind Automata's story and they wrote their respective games together
Not quite honestly, from what little I saw the gameplay seems more like a Sekiro than a Nier (definitely not even close to MGR), unfortunately the story is also not quite stellar either so definitely not similar to Nier in that regard
I think the similarities are more in the lore and the story
Even tho as you mentioned...it doesn't quite measure up to Automata
Or to a decent story for that matter
The gameplay is reportedly very good tho
(Final img is old) HOLY SHIT !!

i find it amusing the game has been getting new versions for soo long
I saw some footage of the protagonist grinding on some rails like Sonic
So that was pretty cool at least
the community behind it is bigger than people think
it has its own fuffing esports league
yeah its kinda surpirsing really. but kinda cool at the same time
i used to enjoy watching videos of people play
Its also getting a Nier Automata DLC

I'm gonna restart Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous tonight. It's been a while.
Oh my God, the memes are real. I just spent about an hour in the character creation.
And now I'm stuck on a name
Need any suggestions?
What's a good name for a female, red-haired, spunky, chaotic good, knife-nut (human) rogue?
Human?
Yes, forgot to add that
Vesta Sharptongue
I thought Flitter was suggesting Human as the name
Hmmm, might not go for the Sharptongue bit, since then every character in the game is always gonna use that as part of the name when they address me (most of them have just one name, and only use last names for formal occasions), but Vesta sounds good. Nice, simple, and somewhat fantasy-like.
Gary
Rosalind Vex
Rosalind sounds too...noble-like?
Yep!
Vito Corleone
That's a real name
im trying man
I'm glad you like it. Good luck!
Plus, it sounds similar to Desna, which is my chosen Deity for the game.
im so bad at coming up with names
Hardest part of character creation
Cap, you chose two male names for a female rogue, lol.
Names are hard for sure
The good thing about names is you know if a name is good or bad by vibes, so all you have to do is keep trying and you'll eventually come up with names that have the right vibes
this is why in most character creators i just make a character i already know
like Fallout i make Spaceman Spiff and give him 10 luck cause it's funny
Playing Fallout right now 💕
I finished the main quest and everything but I have DLCs but haven't tried them and problem is to start the first one is I need Nick Valentine and I think he's lost somewhere, I can't find him
My character in New Vegas had no stats invested in Luck
having 10 luck in New Vegas was awesome because i was amazing at blackjack
Welp, I just realized I made a very fatal mistake in character creation, and it would've required me to waste a feat later to fix it, so I've decided to call it a mulligan and restart. Luckily I'm not that far into the game yet, still in the tutorial area mostly.
The mistake: kukris are martial weapons, not simple weapons. Meaning that I couldn't use them, despite them being the rogue knife master's primary damage-dealer. I didn't realize this until later, but by then it was too late since I had already picked a different feat (combat reflexes, which allows for more attacks of opportunity per round, but I don't need that in the early game so much as I need martial weapon proficiency). So, restart it is.
And he said it was only going to be 4 games before. https://x.com/ign/status/1856682557682655273?

Found him, I left him in one of my random settlements and stopped playing for a long time, sorry Nick
Now I can hopefully start Far Harbor DLC as it seems he is required as a companion
Not sure how to feel about this update.
What does this mean for most users?
Nothing!
It means you won't be able to track internal updates to a game using SteamDB
It's relevant for people who are technically literate and very much into a specific game
it's bad for CS2 players living on update copium
but for others, it doesn't change much
In the past, an avid player could see if developers are working on a game even if they didn't publish updates
Now they still can but the developers can hide it if they choose
I always wondered what the point of those being public was
devs can always just work on their code somewhere else until release day if they don't want us stalking the updates, so it's not like it was ever guaranteed to be comprehensive anyway
As a consumer I prefer they don't do that
It's just doing more work to make my life personally harder
harder how?
Well imagine I was curious about the development of a game
IME the human-written updates designed to be read by players, aka patch notes, are so much more reliable of an indicator what's going on with a game, that there's hardly any value (possibly even negative value) in the direct commit history being exposed by default, assuming that's what this is
I can no longer reverse engineer that game for modding by looking at the changes to update my personal documentations https://steamdb.info/depot/1637731/history/?changeid=M:3785097407987759507
Yeah no, what I'm talking about is when someone wants to know everything about a game, not just the patch notes.
There's no secondary source for this information
If I can't see the list of files that changed with an update, I would have to run my own comparison using the hashes of the previous and current version of each file
huh
I guess Crystal Project just works differently, none of this was ever relevant to my Outer Wilds modding, even when they did release an update that broke my mod none of the intermediate steps we were able to track contained any information we could've acted on beforehand
The biggest difference is the game is poorly documented and tooling nonexistent
Right now modding efforts include:
1- Documenting the game engine
2- Extending it to allow modifying the world instead of having to make NPCs tagged as blocks
3- Messing with the existing randomizer
is it a custom engine?
It's a simple voxel engine based on the FNA framework
As far as I can tell, it's pretty similar to how RPG Maker does things, but uses the framework to handle controls, sound, and other assets. Maybe rendering too?
It has two modes, combat and exploration
The combat screens are just unreachable locations in the world, with locations for enemies and characters
I wrote a little program to decode asset files. They have a simple encoding to obfuscate them because the developer doesn't have a license to share the assets separately from the game
import java.io.IOException;
import java.nio.file.Files;
import java.nio.file.Path;
import java.nio.file.Paths;
import java.nio.file.StandardOpenOption;
public class DatabaseReader {
public static void main(String[] args) {
DatabaseReader databaseReader = new DatabaseReader();
databaseReader.readFiles("Full file path here", "CrystalProjectPatchfile.json");
}
public void readFiles(String inputFilePath, String outputFilePath) {
try {
byte[] fileData = Files.readAllBytes(Paths.get(inputFilePath));
// Decode the file data
for (int i = 0; i < fileData.length; i++) {
fileData[i] = (byte) (255 - (fileData[i] & 0xFF));
}
// Convert the decoded byte array to a string and parse as JSON
String jsonString = new String(fileData);
// Write the decoded JSON data to a new file
writeToFile(outputFilePath, jsonString);
System.out.println("Decoded JSON Data written to " + outputFilePath);
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
private void writeToFile(String filePath, String content) {
try {
Path path = Paths.get(filePath);
Files.write(path, content.getBytes(), StandardOpenOption.CREATE, StandardOpenOption.TRUNCATE_EXISTING);
} catch (IOException e) {
e.printStackTrace();
}
}
}
If you don't care to read the program, it basically works by doing a bitwise inversion
Or a 255 complement encoding. It subtracts each byte from 255 and that's it
This is for modifying game files OTHER THAN the modding software that comes packaged with the game
The modding software allows you to add classes, enemies, spells, items, buffs, difficulties, genders
But doesn't let you touch the engine functions or change the world significantly
It also includes dev notes, which is super handy
playing rdr2 and found some guy in St Denis preaching about eugenics (ew). his face ran into my fist a few times and now he's dead and literally no one cares lmao
Wow
ok that is fascinating, neither of my games had official modding tools... yet I have far more ease looking into and fiddling with every function in the underlying engine
Yeah, DNSpy works out of the box for reverse engineering the engine itself
But I'm not proficient with C# so I tend to take a long time figuring out how things work
And of course
We don't have a reliable framework for injecting engine mods and making sure they survive updates to the executable
Right now all engine mods just use an xdelta patch
While content mods go through steam workshop and work perfectly fine
remember Enemy Territory? Well, Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament just got the same treatment 🙂
Nice
oh nice, Unreal tournament is good fun

Oh look, something everyone was expecting.
Sanandreas is still the most selling game on PS2
I'm honestly surprised xbox 360 down there
I thought it would be higher
Tho it's to be expected ps2 is first
It's where everyone must start
That's their prime
Still have mine
The question has always been if Switch can sell more than PS2 for years
360 does feel low for the impact it had
but "one sale" means more for some of these systems than others, especially with the handhelds on the same list
the switch has only one more holiday season before it gets replaced, but I've been hoping it can beat the DS in total sales
146 million is as of September 30th
Considering the switches price point is significantly higher than the DS, and that the switch was being sold when folks in general had less money, that sales number is genuinely impressive
if I'm reading nintendo's stats right then they sold 7 million last christmas
I'm surprised the 3DS isn't up there, honestly.
You right, I forgot they're different consoles
I remember a time when everyone and their grandma (sometimes literally) had a 3DS
That might have been part of it tho
the 3DS had a rough launch
Anyone here have a WII U?
anyone who got a wii and a switch but not a wii u is a fake fan and will be dismissed from the nintendo gatekeeping competition
I got a wii u because I was like 10 when it released. If that doesn't scream dedication I don't know what does
one game???? lmaoo
tbf if they bought it launch year that's basically all there was
Name a second Wii u game
But I have a switch
you do!
the switch was not out yet when they made the games for the wii u though :P
there's no and lol
you asked me to name a second wii u game, there were indeed several wii u games
You only named Mario maker, which while technically true, never interested me. The 2d mario platformers never grabbed me, and player made levels wouldn't fix that
it's a good thing you didn't buy a wii u then lol
This was one I wanted to get, but I still have both a working gamecube and disk for that
So it didn't seem pressing
jealous
I'm pretty sad I didn't buy the original Splatoon tbh, it seems like it was an awesome game
two working gamecubes actually
In my childhood I recall having 3 at one point, no idea where the third went tho
I've even got the GBA-GC adapter, and disk!
What was your fist console mega
I had a GBC when I was about 3, with pokemon red as my first game
My bro and I shared the N64 when that came out
Nice.
The gcs and remaining games
I don't have smash bros anymore, I think that box contains pikmin 2 now
That's a gc-pc/Wii u controller adapter in front of the left gc, and both controllers work
I think I have a 3rd official one and a 4th off brand one somewhere around here

I use the adapter for playing gc games on pc lol
How does it perform on PC?
wii u wasn't even sold where I live
It works fine, I can safely use gc controllers on emulator
only on emulator tho
Any lag?
@bold sonnet @fickle garnet season 1 has went live early!
That’s good.
Yippee
So I can post screenshots of Easy Red 2 here right?

One of my favourite games growing up Little Big Adventure/Relentless has been remade and was released today. And while i loved the game growing up when it was 1st released the remake style im not sure about. Also the changes in story im not sure about. I twill be interesting to see what it ends up being like but at the same time i wonder if my nostaliga of the orgional will cause me to totally dislike the remake
https://www.gog.com/en/game/little_big_adventure_twinsens_quest
Oh shit i have my unused double xp tokens from MW3 in BO6 now
I have almost 50 hours worth of double level xp
Yup they reverted the change
Microids is putting a lot of stuff out lately, but they tend to be quantity over quality unfortunately... I still remember Flashback 2 from last year
I'll have to see what happens to the Amerzone remake
the GOG reviews are salty because of culture wars, they seem a lot more positive on Steam
the game is a big cult classic so I think many original players will see past the game's flaws anyway 🙂
yeah im holding off buying until i see more info thats for sure.
its cool that its a lot of the orgional creators who are doing the work of the remake but they are still stuck dealing with publishers
maybe i shouldn't be given unsupervised porting privileges
I'm watching an Obduction playthrough, and the player just picked this up:

It's supposed to be bad. The world of Obduction is basically a mish-mash of all sorts of worlds, structures, and knick-knacks from any and all timelines. This poster is supposed to mimic those really old ads in newspapers with equally poor photo quality.
The photo quality is not the issue. The issue is it's too obviously photoshopped

Only if you add it to your library over this weekend
Were base+ep1+ep2 ever combined? Because if not, it seems like they were for this update
on my steam deck it shows up as 3 seperate games so i don't think so
strange
Yup. They've done it
"So I click HL2: EPISODE ONE to start the game, right?"
lmao
''Half Life Alyx is a prequel you say? Oh well I'll just start with that one!''
"wait, I'm supposed to start with the chronologically fourth Star Wars movie? er, wait, fifth counting R1???"
bam
ok cool
''So I should watch Acolyte first then correct?''
imo it depends on how interested/committed/etc you are going in
the prequels just aren't as good as the originals, but there is some good stuff in them that can even enhance the originals
i think we watched the first two prequels but then we didnt get around to finishing the rest
but if someone who's never seen any SW before asks me what to try, so you've gotta assume it's 1 movie and maybe that's the end of it, I'm always going to say the original ANH movie, no questions
(ideally non-special edition)
I remember my mom renting star wars ep IV on VHS from the library when I was a lad
"renting"
I mean borrowing
I grew up with the prequels so I can't say much there, I'm completely biased and I think Ep1 and 3 are fun movies especially for a kid, but there's no denying that the original trilogy are just better made movies
I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking that you shouldn't start on part 4 of a story though
I don't think the prequels are necessary to watch though, really I think the original trilogy is something that is probably enjoyed at its best with the intended experience, which is knowing nothing about Star Wars prior to watching the first three movies
I was born after the whole thing already started shaping up into what it is now but there was an entire period before the prequels where people were trying to figure out what the hell things like the clone wars were about and that sounded like a fun period for all that extra content
man i wish Disney would just release the original theatrical scans of the OT
i hate most of the changes in the "special" editions
What's that? You want another change to the greedo bar scene? Well alright then
even as a little kid I did not like the special editions
they fucked with my star war >:(
the fucking dinosaur creature when Luke, Ben, Threepio, and Artoo are pulling into Mos Eisley always makes me mad
Mos Eisley in general got fucked with hard
Soooo, question: what's the difference between HL2 and HL2: Episode 1 and 2?
Episodes 1 and 2 are a continuation of HL2
it's probably best to call the "Episodes" expansion packs or DLCs for HL2
play HL2, then ep1, then ep2
Lost Coast can be played at any time, I believe. It's a 15-minute or so campaign that was created as a tech demo for (internal) HDR rendering. It's worth checking out
the speedrun for that game is like... 5 seconds, or even less in fact
(this is not a TAS)
Wtf.
It was less confusing at the time
Adding them onto og HL2 is a neat choice, and for free no less
That's my favourite price to pay for things
did you grab Unreal Gold and UT99 by the way? They are also free now (not on Steam, get them from oldunreal.com)
we should try to play it together sometime 🙂
They removed the Mac build, yikes.
That’s another one for the books.
CS:GO gone, TF2 was made 64bit and still didn’t make it, and now HL2. I expect Portal to follow.
And it looks like its causing more issues than fixing them.
Anyhoo, Happy 20th!
Do expect many mods to break due to the codependencies of HL2 and its episodes now that they’re merged into one.
Not that it should… but… I know something will be broken.
I didn't but I'm not super into Unreal unfortunately
or quake either
Just never was part of that whole circle unfortunately, just TF2 and CS for me
do you play CS2?
Oh no I think I stopped playing CSGO right around the time where the free to play update came around, I haven't played since and I kinda don't want to
I haven't played a competitive shooter in a while, stopped playing Apex a couple years back too
It's just TF2 for me but even that I haven't played in a bit

I almost can't believe all it took was some random internet user making a joke about Piglet being in Silent Hill for the entire internet to suddenly become cripplingly obsessed with this game to the point there was a huge resurgence in the speedrunning community for this game alone (I assume there already was one, if not then this birthed one)
Fun fact about Piglet's Big Game:
Piglet moves a lot faster when he's at critically low health so the optimal speedrun would require you to traumatize Piglet as much as possible

Balatro made it huh, neat
Huh, Shadow of the Erdtree is technically an expansion.
They put it in anyway huh?
From what I heard, Metaphor deserves this one
I guess you could argue Rebirth's status too
imo it's fine because both have as much content as many whole games
but I've played 0 of these so it's all whatever to me
people are really mad they put dlc on there
I havent played any of those games but elden ring is good..
all i needed is wukong nominated
it's not going to win but I need to hear that score in the orchestra
There a lot of nominees been announced but it’s a lot of links
thankfully the game awards site has it all organized here https://www.thegameawards.com/nominees
I saw a recent tweet or interview or something - he said DLC, expansions, etc, it all qualifies for GOTY
Found it
cool, so pretty much what I guessed
usually the bigger problem with game awards like this is one or more of the nominees being a popular and successful game that everyone who played more than 10 games that year agrees is not particularly great
(since I've played none of these, I can't say if that's true this time)
When Minecraft stops getting updated and its final version is released, would it be eligible for GOTY?

has minecraft ever even been nominated for something at all
They literally added a new clause to the nomination guidelines so that they could nominate Elden Ring again. It's so stupid. Elden Ring is gonna sweep again and other games that have rightfully earned their place on that list besides just existing are not gonna get the recognition they deserve.
it should be the new zelda game (havent played it yet)
meh, it's not like these venues have ever been the place to hear about interesting titles that normally fly under the radar
I'll just keep playing and modding my not-even-nominated 2024 game
Have you guys heard of Elden Ring? It's so fun
You'd be surprised how very few people had even heard about Baldur's Gate 3 before the Game Awards.
Now everyone talks about it and are still talking about it.
there was nothing under the radar about BG3 lol
Half the people on my ship had never even heard about it and the other half had only heard about it in passing. There were only a few people, including me, who actually knew what it was.
yeah but in real life people dont really know much outside of super mario, CoD and Fifa
And they all thought that Starfield was gonna sweep with all the rewards.
Didn't even get nominated for a single one.
It did get nominated (Best RPG; Lost to BG3).
Oh sorry, one nomination.
I'm just laughing at how they will get Balatro into the GotY Melody. It has to start or end on that note.
no Red Dead Redemption 2 smh
they shouldve given RDR2 a minor bug fixing update this year and it wouldve qualified smh
...It's a deck-builder? Huh. Not what I was expecting, and not what you'd usually see nominated, same as Stray was. Proves my point about some games earning their spot on the nomination list though.
just realized how insane it is Balatro got nominated. literally made by one guy

This is an achievement you get for completing the tutorial.
Only 64%...
Also it's missing an "a" before "beautiful"
Bee you tea foal
.........Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit...
I forgot to do a very important companion quest in Act 1 before I moved on to Act 2. Now my only choices are to move forward and possibly not give Seelah (the companion in question) a good ending, or to revert hours of progress to finish the quest and hopefully get the best ending for her.
I KNEW I was forgetting something.
It wouldn't be a huge deal to redo it, but it's also very annoying.
Because it means that I stayed up and wasted like 4 hours last night for nothing.
Screw it, I'm reloading. I need to finish that quest.
I really don't like when things like that happen, I feel you. But a little good thing is you know what will happen so you can finish it faster and go back to normal point
Well, I managed to complete the quest and redo the stuff I did. Much quicker this time, thankfully.
wouldn't Black Myth Wukong win Game of the Year?
I haven't played it myself but it seems like it's breaking new ground for the chinese video game industry
more importantly, I'm of the belief that winners, or at least nominations, of the game awards are often based on money such as with other award shows like the oscars
for cultural influence reasons there'd be huge incentive to fund a chinese game to get nominated for the Game Awards. It's apparently the lowest rated game to ever receive a GOTY nomination
The question is, even if it is breaking new ground for the Chinese vg industry, is it breaking new ground for the entire vg industry
introducing chinese AAA games to the international videogame audience would be a big shift for the industry, so I do feel like its success holds some significance
I don't think it deserves to win GOTY but it's the one that feels like it would in my mind
Silent Hill 2 remake or Helldivers 2 should've been up there instead of Erdtree which should have been in its own category
Unsure about helldivers 2, but I def seen a lot of complaints around sh2 and p3r
if Palworld or Helldivers 2 had their mania a few months ago instead of at the start of the year they would probably have been nominated for something lol
Palworld probably had to be skipped anyway due to uhh... legal issue
lol
looks like Helldivers is nominated for community support and best ongoing at least
Although I can see people complaining if this happened, like "wow 3 remakes nominated shit decision"
there's no way this isn't going to GTAVI
They all deserve but gta6 is too huge to compare

Nice
Sony release most of their games on PC nowadays anyway.
Yeah but not Demon Souls or Bloodborne
CoD is THAT complicated?
if you want to get into the details, many games are pretty complicated in execution, even if the info you need to play isn't nearly as much
games like Smash have a ton of hidden parameters for each hitbox in a move
multiply that with the number of moves for each character, and the number of characters (over 80 in Ultimate), and you have an incredibly complex balancing act at hand
on top of that, there are a lot of special cases that literally nobody can see coming if they didn't hear about it beforehand
People who make these games must be like scientists
did you watch https://www.youtube.com/@sora_sakurai_en ? It's a very informative channel on game design

Huge if true
I've always wanted one of those controllers but they stopped making them years ago
I have one
It's alright
With steams software, you get most of the functionality with regular controllers anyway
You have to at least respect Valve's commitment to innovating even when it comes to something like the design and shapes of a controller which are pretty set in stone at this point in gaming history
I had one, I bought it for like $30 new and sold it last year for $150
I just think it's neat
It is neat
I used mine until the right trigger spring snapped
Now I still have it but find the PS4 controller more useful
I've never bought into it personally, I just wished more gamepads had gyro
(Xbox do your thing!!)
I only recently started being more interested in getting a controller for pc gaming since I've never really had any use for one before (or had the means to get one) and gyro is definitely one of the reasons why I'm probably not going with the much easier stress free xbox controller that's pretty much compatible with anything, don't know why they haven't implemented that into the controllers yet
That last screenshot looks like a Ratchet & Clank level.
How many Opposing Force remakes are in development? Three?
Tried hardcore for the first time. I kinda like it
hell yeahhhh
this game contains scenes
they're certainly scenes of all time

I feel this is going to take like a week. But Genshin Impact and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 are today too
I think it's going to take time to fix because it only installs a little and every other things are streamed. Maybe they did so because latest version was all downloaded and BIG

S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl may one day be a great game, but right now it's simply not ready for launch. Poor performance, myriad bugs...
Stalker 2 is a buggy mess
at least on launch
Never preorder.
is that to me? I don't own the game if that's what you meant.
It's general advice
I guess it's as true now as it was when Total Biscuit kept reminding folks not to pre-order
It's been true for well over a decade
veilguard was surprisingly very stable
and continues to be
like they released a patch yeah, but the amount of people that had trouble was surprisingly low
Effectively, preordering is lending a company a small interest-free loan based only on the promise they might have a game for you to buy later.
Even if you trust them to release a good game you should not preorder
sorta like kickstarting something huh
It's on game pass
GSC
This is the brand of broken games on release

I'd rather hope GSC themselves fix the core bugs. Leave the gameplay modding to fans haha

Xbox will now allow you to fix your stick drift using software
It sounded funnier in my head i'm sorry
#sfm #hl2 https://t.co/WowzoOUWTi
【QRT of The Photoshop Guy (@Photoshop_Gy):】
'"Gordon, crank that Soulja Boy."'
Isn't that crazy? So many controllers were left or thrown away, and now can be fixed without opening them?
Well, the stick drift is still there!
The recalibration is a band-aid. It involves telling the software, "ignore movements of this stick that are this small."
So effectively, it will reduce the range your stick can respond to how you move it.
It's good to have, but it's not a fix to bad hardware. The manufacturers of the controllers should still make better sticks
That's such a good point when I think about it. I got one with stick drift I should check it out later how it works with this. But never before seen someone want to fix it with software this is such a new idea
Steam is getting proper season passes support, all DLCs must be listed with expected release dates. If DLC is cancelled, refund for the value of unreleased DLC will be offered.

String theory lied to us and now science communication is hard.
This is just my opinion man. String theory is not bad. String theory is fine and interesting. String theory was communicated.....you could say poorly or could say deceptively.
The game is Binding of Isaac Rebirth. I wish I had saved the seed so I could post it here.

It's a history of string theory podcast but she also plays the binding of isaac
She has a winning streak of -212 somehow

By conserving healing items you are spending your valuable time, which is also a limited resource

First try!
Ignore the fact that Kabu spent half the fight dead (I really should invest in TP)
Dolphin has had this for a decade, heh
it certainly took some time for consoles to do it officially, I wonder why 😛
now I wish there was built-in snapback prevention in software too. It's a non-issue for almost any game genre... except fighting games where it'll make you lose games
the spooder boss on hard is very hard, arguably the hardest boss because of the lack of tools available to you
i think its well worth doing if i recall

anyone has geoguessr ? i wanna play but i literally have no money to get a subscription
It's paid now?
yeah
there used to be a free version where you could play 5 minutes every 15 minutes but not even that is paid
the time where it was fully free is long gone
and it seems you can only get the yearly sub
and i do not have 30 bucks in my bank account right now lol
Yeah fuck that
fucking sucks
I can see monthly
honestly I would have paid for the game, if not as a subscription
same
i put like 30 bucks in it already i'm angry i can't play now
subscribtion based games fucking suck and i hate them
I feel like Pip Finder is near mandatory for Hard Mode, lmao
The what finder?
Enemies have a chance to drop health/tp after a fight
Like the Heart/Flower finder in Paper Mario
but 100x better because 1. It's cheaper and 2 It fucking works
Oh it must be new to the update
Before the update there were

Free GeoGuessr alternative with unlimited play and Multiplayer. Play Geoguessr free of charge to learn Geography by guessing the location.
I've heard about it becuse a local LAN party is using it this year
ah, seems not at present. honestly disappointed they arent working on one right now. but sounds like there will be one eventually, so thats good!
Makes sense
it's been ONE TURN
my experience (in every genre with consumables, not just JRPGs) has been that if I can't beat the fight without consumables, I also can't beat it even with consumables, so for me it's not so much hoarding as it is ignoring the unhelpful parts of the game
Would looking up a recipe guide be cheating?
nah
The difference here is time. You can beat a fight with consumables a lot faster
Already did
If I'm playing on Hard, I think I can compensate with not having to mess with recipes because these fights are hard and I need the extra healing
yeah no thats fair
recipes are fun to find out for yourself, but also, nah im too lazy
well, not in my experience, I'm sure there are games or situations where this is true but I've just never been in one (unless I forced it to happen by spamming stackable buffs ahead of time)
i use healing items, yeah, but rarely use stat boost items myself
sometimes ill use damaging items but most JRPG style games seem poorly optimised for them, they are often great early game but useless late game because they scale terribly or are pointless late game because you're OP
or because they give you so little information that it's impossible to know when you're one item away from victory
(I'm aware Crystal Project is apparently the rare exception)
paper mario actually made even early game damaging items useful late game, because they allowed you to do status effects as well, like pow blocks knocking over shell enemies is useful in most parts of the game
that too
zasp is kicking my arse
he does that
also this is a scam, i hate this, it procced once out of like, 15 times
(this does not happen, you've won now)
well, yeah, it is a pretty powerful item
blarg
oh btw, use the bank in the ant town!
you get interest for just having money
what i recommend is putting all your money into it before the next chapter, then when you come back, you will have received alot of interest on it
Yeah I've got like 100+ berries in there before i saved and quit
That's not too bad actually, thanks!
you're welcome

Arthur is coughing a lot it's kind of worrying me
the Unshaken sequence after you get back to the US after Guarma might be the greatest sequence in a video game
oh
Whoopsies time to kill a slaver
oh it was a remaster all along
wow.... cool
atleast it's an official PC port
What is better in VF than in Tekken?

yeah that was fun, the cannon v battleship was awesome
it's a different game series all together, it's mechanically different from tekken
I guess rollback is better than nothing, I was never really aware of Virtua Fighter as a franchise until recently so I don't have much hype for this than VF fans probably have
I really thought it was a new game though
it's coming soon™️
I'm waiting on that garou myself, as a kid I was big on 3D fighters but now I'm more comfortable with 2D fighters, and I'm not super good at Marvel style fighters so I've been limited to SF6 and Strive
I'm fine with both, I am going to enjoy garou and play some more VF5 espically that I can play some PC matches without worry
of course
New upcoming master duel ban list is out.
wow okay, Bug Fables is hella based
so the rewards for beating bosses on Hard are also accessable if you beat them without the Hard medal equipped, but you do have to buy them.
Yeah
and you get to fight them in hard mode later if you want to see what it's like
Honestly after struggling so much just to get Quick Flea I did look up some of the other rewards
you do get acheivements tho, and more exp/money for doing hard mode
at least this one is on PC, Sega has a history of keeping the best ports for the weirdest platforms
like Virtua Racing on Switch or Daytona 2 in an arcade machine in Yakuza
(the second one is technically on PC, but come on...)

Would you like to play sometime?
Very much

Ok so, Digital Extremes, the Warframe developer is making this other game that is in pre alpha and it's kind of a guerrilla druids against an invading army with a medieval celtic aesthetic.
The reason I'm even explaining this, is that they have a login page with your character sleeping in the wilderness.
I recently discovered that every consecutive login day you do, they add an animal that sleeps next to your character and it's really cute.
aww that's so cool
I assume there is a limit, I kinda hope that you are just completely obscured by animals by the time you hit the limit tho
yeah fair
Huh
Sounds like Cetus vs Grineer tbh
Kinda.
Except that the setting is a lot more fantasy, even tho the bad guys sorta have advanced magitech of sort
And are more cult-ish
It's less grineer and more Necromongers from Riddick to make a reference you almost certainly won't catch
But I am pretty sure that was a major inspiration
the franchise with the famous Smash characters is getting an unofficial PC port (not available for download yet). If you want to look at it live…
https://www.twitch.tv/rakanai
it's 60 FPS + native widescreen (no stretching)
Star fox x86_64

aww cute
BRUH
i think this is a decompilation of the original starfox64 rom which is extremely cool
just shut down the entire platform already lol
aww i like the xbox avatars
I saw Profesor play it yesterday it looked fun like more complicated Vampire Survivors also funny that all characters are anime girls I thought
It is modeled after Vampire Survivors, yes, but with the vtubers of Hololive Production
Like Hc said it's free on Steam and is a lot more than just the main game. There's a casino, material gathering, a house you can customize, and a Jump King game built right into the game
and zero instances of spending irl money
exactly, Holocure is amazing
LAG INTENSIFIES
DATTE BOKU WA HOSHI DAKARAAAAA
Arthur is not looking good :(
With Marine's skills literally relying on HoloCoins they had to nerf the Greed stamp or else she'd be broken af. She's already quite broken when built correctly, but that's true for a lot of characters... which I gues means the game is balanced well
I am prestige 2 in BO6
Ah, the tradition of edgy 13 year olds dominating in CoD continues.
There are soooo fucking many people with maga as their clan tag

Awwww~
If a fawn or rabbit ever comes up to me while I'm sitting down and sleeps near me, then I know that I have reached the peak of my life.
What's the deal with this compiled shader thing btw?
It seems like all the games do it these days
Seems to be more of a PC thing. There is a benefit most of the time to doing it that way.
Consoles don't tend to have it since they are built for that one specific hardware config.
Ah, finally reached the FIGHTING GOD part of persona 5
LET'S GO GAMBLING!
Aw dang it!
I'd say UFO 50 deserves at least a nomination for GOTY, but then I wouldn't be able to say if UFO 50 as a whole deserves it or each individual game deserves one
apparently there's like a full 10 hour rpg in that thing
@green fulcrum https://x.com/sonicmovie/status/1860767803889905799?
Paramount and Sega of America actually released a brand new Sonic game for the Genesis to promote the movie and within it if you input a secret code you actually get the date for the new trailer and a little teaser
It's not really a 'game' though, there is a little minigame with movie Sonic and Shadow but it's very bare bones and there's no fail state or anything, the rest are just portraits of the characters with some voice lines plus the trailer date teaser
🃏🃏🃏
the sonic 3 boxart is really funny
Only for content creators though, I'm assuming this thing's gonna cost some money later down the line
it's really just a novelty item
it's the og Sonic 3 box art
ye
AI art :/
For shame Sega
Oh wow, Sega really was ahead of their time back then
It's funny bc 5 is "normal" amount
What is your favourite sonic game GT?
Could I get away with saying SRB2K?
(I know it wasn't directed at me, but I figured I'd interact
)
Maybe it's just recency bias but Shadow Gens is pretty up there for me
I thought that game was a good remake with the added shadow story
I have an interesting relationship with the Sonic franchise where I'm fully aware of everything about it especially in recent times I've engaged more with all parts of it, but since I grew up with Sonic Unleashed and Riders on PS2 which was basically everything I used to play thats what Sonic is to me (I used to play Adventure 1 on PC too but I remember never figuring out how to get far enough on it)
it's very subjective obviously but you can't really quite detach from those childhood memories and feelings
sonic heroes was one of my favourite games
Sonic Mania

GT stole Mario's account?! 😱
Sonic Unleashed, no contest.
Werehog and all
It has the best story, the best music, the best gameplay, the best voice acting, and the best art style.
yeah
Based
Frontiers' story is absolutely fantastic too, but Unleashed has it beat in terms of plot cohesion and the realistic and emotional friendship that Sonic and Chip have.
jesus christmas i have 107 hours in RDR2 how much longer is this game
It's a big game y'know
Skyrim with pistols
That's exactly what it is
this game is nothing like Skyrim except it has an open world
It'll take you a thousand hours then
it's more like gta with horses but even that's not a good comparison because the characters and writing are a lot more serious
Skyrim with horses
Skyrim has horses
Even the infamous ||hot dog stand missions||
So it's just Skyrim
no i just said it's nothing like skyrim
it's so fun to pull your chain
Even those. Even the infamous Eggmanland stage that takes half an hour to S-Rank. I love it all.
I need to play it again
GTA but good
Sonic Team cooked with Unleashed and I will not be persuaded otherwise.
Anyone who says the Werehog was stupid just doesn't get it.
honestly yeah
My favorite sonic game is the RPG one
I think at this point I will never see sonic unleashed and not think of vhisper
Sonic Chronicles?
I thought it was a good edition including chip
Yeah it's so bad and I love it
I haven't seen vhisper in a while, where'd they go?
Idk
She's still in Manechat
I mean, the gameplay is passable, and the story and character interactions are genuinely some of the best in the series. What brings it down is the awful, awful music.
whenever someone mentions balatro on twitter people just post the plush Joker face
The real shame is that they had a great soundtrack ready to go, but it got corrupted and all they had left was the garbage midi demos that they were forced to put in.
GT what was your opinion on sonic R I like it but I know it’s not a fan favourite
Never played it
My discord crashed right after you sent this
i lvoe Sonic R

Ah
It is a bioware game
@green fulcrum what's your least favorite sonic game
Sonic R is amazing
That's my childhood sonic hahah
"Can you feel the sunshine!"
LYRICS:
Can you see? The sun is shinin' on me
It makes me feel so free, so alive
It makes me want to survive
And the sky, it makes me feel so high
The bad times pass me by
'cause today is gonna be a brighter day
Can you feel the sunshine?
Does it brighten up your day?
Don't you feel that sometimes
You just need to run away...
Sonic Riders
Wait cap did you see that Bowser vs Eggman video
yeah
What're ur thoughts
Thwomp crushing Infinite was hilarious
Lmao
i agree with the outcome which should surprise nopony
I don't know much about sonic (or the Mario spin-offs) so that video is how I learned about Time Eater, Dreamy Bowser and Nightmare Eggman
Dreamy Bowser was Dream Team i think
Did you know if you play twelve cards in a row he ends your turn?
ive only played Bowser's Inside Story none of the other Mario & Luigi games
also i never finished it i got stuck on the final boss
Looked it up, apparently Mario and Sonic both have games called Dream Team
You should play it on archipelago with us
The GBA remake of Sonic 1. Awful controls, screen crunch, shrunken screen so you can't see where you're going, they ruined the music, there's so much lag and slowdown, and soooooooo many bugs. It's infuriatingly bad. Even Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric were better.
I feel like that's kind of a cheat answer though just because of how objectively awful that port is, plus the fact that it's a port
Out of the ones I played my least favourite is probably Frontiers
honestly i think me too
what happened with Frontiers
it's just kind of boring
It just feels very unfocused on what it wants to be, it feels more like an experiment they released for money than a full fledged Sonic game, overall it's just very unremarkable unless you're specifically into the idea of open world Sonic and you personally really dig that
I loved Frontiers, but it has its problems too. Luckily they actually fixed a lot of those problems in Shadow Generations, including the awful pop-in issues.
Frontiers has mods to reduce pop-in
it's clearly compromised on consoles and especially Switch
what the fuck ?????
is that the new indiana jones game?
oh
im so excited ☃️
probably a reference to this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_human_skeletons
Giant skeletons reported in the United States until the early twentieth century were a combination of hoaxes, scams, fabrications, and the misidentifications of extinct megafauna. Many were reported to have been found in Native American burial mounds. Examples from 7 ft (2.1 m) to 20 ft (6.1 m) tall were reported in many parts of the United Stat...
that's crazy
I mean, it isn't a really "big" game
So that makes sense
Kind of a funny flex though, considering all these multi-billion dollar companies are making games that take up hundreds of gigabytes, and then along comes a humble, one-developer card game that gets nominated for game of the year.
Like, Christ this guy struck GOLD.
Yeah

ok cool, only reason i ask was because it was only listed as playable
It obviously might not be at the absolute highest graphics level but I did play it several hours and it looks fine
radical
some fuckin SCP shit
Congrats Microsoft, you played yourself.
Finally, a use for Ubi games. /s
woo you m ean i don't have to use AML for XCOM 2 anymore?
I may be wrong but I don't think Xcom 2 use the 2k launcher
hmm, it used to be forced if you launched it through steam. I switched to AML as the 2k Launcher broke mods
I know there was a launcher to select between the expansions and organise mods, but I don't think it was the big 2k launcher
I may be wrong tho, it's been a while
ah, I'm not sure, the update came through for me so I can't double check
I'm not actually sure tho, it's just a random memory I have
yeah no worries. it's good that steam deck can launch mods now

ooh interesting, will take a look
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn3iHmMOsWA Random fun video I got recommended. The game on pc seems to be just about the same as the game on the switch.
Rockstar Games finally released Red Dead Redemption on PC! But is it a good port? In this video, we're taking a look at the PC version of Red Dead Redemption and comparing it to emulation. We're going to compare it to 4 different ways of emulating it on PC. Those are: emulating the PS3 version on RPCS3; emulating the Xbox 360 version on Xenia; e...
As for which version is best, I guess it is kinda hard to say, some of the lighting and colors have been changed a bit between the xbox 360 and the pc version.
Ocelot represent
PC version is definitely the way to play now, except on macOS maybe where Switch emulation might be a better choice (I haven't looked at CrossOver or the game porting toolkit for RDR1)
speaking of which, I got a new Mac today but won't have much time to use it today

Lmao mute people fuck off you can't play our game
It seems like a nice game but I don't think I want to play it without accessibility options that make it playable with no microphone
I mean to be fair, it's not like there are a lot of games like these
If every other game required voice controls I'd be more concerned about it
I mostly don't want to sing at my computer, people might think I'm insane
Other games do need accessibility options to allow players who can't use a controller or mouse and keyboard to play them
For a game like this, it looks like the actual mechanism you play the game with is raising your voice up or down.
It is probably possible to hack controller support into it with two spare buttons
I wonder if I can do it
Yeah but for other games
-
The vast majority of games do require the use of a controller, without accessibility options through the industry disabled people would have no games to play...it's not really that important that every single game is accessible to everyone, but more that the hobby is broadly accessible.
-
The other games having tried and tested control scheme, have a lot of R&D already done for them as to how properly do accessibility...a game trying something new from a tiny development team being expected to come up to do accessibility research to make their unique gimmick compatible for an extremely tiny portion of the potential playerbase is a lot more burdensome
It would be nice if they did, but I do understand if it doesn't happen
reminds me when people made Flappy Bird clones that required you to scream into the microphone to fly
I wanna take you for a ride
Accessibility is important for sure, but for some games which choose to be gimmicky I think the whole point is to use the gimmick
So for one hand clapping, accessibility option kind of misses the point of the game
It's like playing Wii Sports with a gamepad
But I want to play it with a gamepad

I'm watching a Let's Play of the original Myst, and I gotta say, the other Ages outside of Myst (Mechanical, Selenitic, Channelwood, and Stoneship) are a looooot smaller than I remembered them being, especially Stoneship and Mechanical. They are tiny compared to what we would get later in Riven and beyond.
Myst is badass
It is
I should play it again, maybe do Riven too.
And the remakes are fantastic, especially the Riven remake.
I’ve finished Myst but never Riven.
Also Myst III, which is my favorite (because first and only I finished as a kid)
You should play the original Riven if you can, it's on Steam, but I very highly recommend the remake too because it changes enough and adds new things to almost make it a new but still familiar experience.
Myst 3 is very highly enjoyed by the community too
same, I think 3 is the only one that consistently nailed the balance of being solvable without external help / luck, while retaining all the aesthetics and mystery and stuff
im not just saying this because it was an inspiration for Gravity Falls
my wife and I played through the first 3 Myst games early in our marriage and found them all very reasonably solvable. Never went to walkthroughs or anything like that.
I love a lot of the environments, the central island is gorgeous and so is the biological age.
Now I want to go play Myst III when I get home 🤪
hbomberguy has a great video about Myst
as a kid, the marble maze age in 3 was the one that really blew me away aesthetically
Not sure I can though, I have a Mac and no Windows machines.
I have a soft spot for Myst 4, but I understand why people don't like it. The acting is...awful, except for Atrus.
Myst 5 though is bad, start to finish. You don't even need to go to most of the Ages in the game to reach the ending (technically you don't need to do that in the original Myst either as long as you do some quick thinking, memorization for the clock tower position to get to its marker switch, and code-searching for the randomized answer to the fireplace puzzle, but it's still not as obvious there). But in Myst 5 you can very easily skip like 80% of the game and still get the best ending.
Well it says it supports Mac, so I guess I’ll check.
I'm actually pretty sure that Cyan intends on remaking all five games, especially since they recently were able to buy the rights to Myst 3, Myst 4, and Myst 5 back from Ubisoft, and the original teams for those games are no longer around. From what I recall, Cyan said that they'd likely do Myst 4 and 5 "a bit different" from the originals.
Having a full-blown Myst 4 remake with better graphics, better acting, a better storyline, and improved puzzles would blow me away.
Amateria is so badass in Myst 3, with all its mechanics, mathematical/physics puzzles, and pinball machinery (plus that amazing ride at the end). It's tied with Spire from Myst 4 as my absolute favorite Age from the Myst games (Riven in its original form is a close second, but may actually be bumped to a three-way tie for first as of the remake).
I completed only the first Myst and it was great time 🌟
Propably the hardest thinking game I've finished so I felt smart
I was definitely too young for the Mysts when I first played them, it's conceivable if I didn't remember them so well I'd be able to finish them unaided today, especially since I did (barely) manage all of Obduction on my own
Obduction is a mind-bender, for sure.
Never played Firmament, heard it was okay but not the best game they've made.
yeah, I've never tried 4, 5 or Firmament because of reputation (and having too much else to play)
I do like how each Cyan game does something "new" with its puzzles after the original Myst. Riven was "open world", and each puzzle felt like an organic part of the world rather just mere obstacles. Myst 3 was all about mathematics, physics, and engineering, as well as teaching you how each Age's mechanics combine to create civilization. Myst 4 was all about philosophy and a mix of biodiversity, calculus, and geology. Myst 5 was the first mainline game that had proper 3D puzzles and free-roam gameplay.
Then Obduction came and had teleportation, spatial awareness, and swapping puzzles, and Firmament has direct manipulation of objects using that robot thingy you hold.
huh, I never put that together
I do suggest that you at least try Myst 4, just to close off the story of Sirrus and Achenar if anything. Its puzzles aren't too bad, just not as good as the previous 3. The only really major problems with it are the acting and story, which comes off as goofy at times, and the final Age, Serenia, sometimes feels like it doesn't fit as well in the universe of Myst as the other Ages (though visually it's one of the most stunning). But overall it's a fine Myst game, it just could've been better.
Myst 5 I think you can skip, it changes too much about the world and story and it just feels so unnecessary (plus the graphics are very dated and the character animations are horrendous at times).
Firmament is hit or miss, depending on who you ask. I might still play it, but we'll see.
that being Myst IV: Revelation? (I think at some point I had 4 mixed up with Uru?)
I disliked Sirrus's acting. but i quite loved Achenar's just the right level of deranged crazy but his growth over time in the prison age was well done
abut i loved the puzzles in Sirrus's age and the environment was rather pretty
i still have my original myst CD i got when it came out
I also got the 25 year anniversary special box set
I would like a linking book to Equestria pls
I'd say the acting for both of them was crap, but I looooooooooooove Spire's visuals and its puzzles. I also liked both of their journals, they had a lot of personality in them. Sirrus's was clean, scientific, and cold, and Achenar's was deranged and snarky and full of threats and grandiose plans (until he reached his "revelation after the madness" phase when he started living on the lake).
Oh man, I one time saw someone who actually created their own linking book, moving image and all, and it even played the linking sound when you touched the screen. It was soooooooo badass.
the guy was Rime+ and he was my next door neighbour and one of my best friends a as i kid. I introduced him to myst
he could read and write Dn'i fluently
One of these days I want to have a study of sorts similar to Atrus's studies, with crystals and a cool desk and never-ending journals.
Yoooo, that's the one!
it could actually play myst on it
That's so cool!
he also owns a DeLorean
odd guy really
have not spoken to him in well probably about 20 years. after i moved away
amusingly that book is also a backer item you can find in Obduction
Odd? idk, he sounds awesome
He sounds like a creator of sorts, much like the D'ni were
You can be both. :P
I suppose that the D'ni we've seen are kind of odd too. Well, odd at best
We don't talk about Gehn. Gehn can go walk off a cliff
Gehn can suck it as a person, but as an intellectual and builder, he's cool as shit.
His ability to write Ages is ASS though.
He probably used chatgpt smh my head
yeah he never learnt The Art properly and really screwed up everything he wrote
I think my favorite villain is Saavedro though. Brad Dourif (who also played Wormtongue in LotR) is an excellent actor, and he was a fan of Myst since the beginning and played Saavedro perfectly. Perfect mix of crazy and desperate. His absolute despair at the end of the game when you have him trapped is heartwrenching.
i think the DN'i numbering system being base 25 is probbaly one of my fav things in the games
oh yeah Saavedro was a great character and yes the actor played him perfectly
I thought Rivenese was base 25?
agreed, I especially remember in 3's final puzzle when I ||messed up the first time and let him back out after trapping him, and... yeah I can't even blame him for smashing my skull in at that point||
Either way, Rivenese and D'ni number systems have absolutely nothing on the Villeins from Obduction. Base 4 math, and it's done in touch-based pictograms, is F*CKED.
I loved that so much
oh yeah the Villeins numbering was crazy fun.
"foreign numbering systems" is officially one of my favorite tropes in puzzle games now that both Riven and Obduction have both done it wonderfully
that creepy thing near the cash register when you 1st walked in opening up thinking it was going to attack
and then you realize it literally has a manual sitting there waiting to be read
Of all the bad endings in that game, I really think that ||leaving him trapped there forever|| is the absolute worst one. At least in the other bad endings he just ||kills you||, in that one you ||leave him to die, unable to see his family again and unable to even go back to J'nanin where he at least had safety.||
That ending turns you into an absolute monster.
That thing is such a jump scare.
the number of people ive seen doign play thoughts of Objection and getting fixated on the random button/number machine
yeah massive jumpscare when i saw it.
I kinda wish Cyan had a bigger budget to work with these days. Their games are in such a niche that it's hard for them to make that much money, so they've had to cut down their recent games a little. I've heard about cuts from Obduction during development, and from what I've seen of Firmament, it wasn't as fleshed out as it could have been
I really liked the whole cross dimensional space between the trees in obduction just being able to walk between worlds though a void.
The implementation in the remake of riven was certainly interesting. I love the new details in the riven remake. the video overlay of atrus kinda sucks. but the puzzle changes were kinda fun just enough difference to make things more interesting and the moving between the domes was very graphically pritty
I mean, they managed to make the remakes for Myst and Riven truly amazing.
Yeah, the 3D character renders still need work. Better than they were in the Myst remake, but still need work. Gehn's in particular was very buggy.
oh yeah Gehn's renders were horrid
you can really see in the remakes they focused ont he world and the landscape
the people interaction felt like it was phoned in
For Myst and Riven, they had the advantage of those games already having been designed decades ago. They didn't have to start completely from scratch, which is harder to do
in retrospect I wonder why those remakes weren't timed to go with a new game like Firmament, for a niche like this where the old games are so historically significant that would've been a great way to pull in new people who had no idea they like this
Catherine's weren't actually that bad, imo. The potential is there, they just need to work on it some more.
i am yet to play Firmament. watched lets plays though
Let me guess, Dilandau?
That guy is like the Myst/Cyan Let's Player.
