looool
oh no it's an Astrologian main
...Did they seriously get rid of the cute pixel art style of the first game and then plaster this AI-looking ass in our faces?
was it prison architect that borrowed from Rimworld or the other way around
i know i've asked this before but i forgor
The other way
But the assets I think are open in general
Also, Valorant doing a heavy push for consoles now.
Might give it a shot, idk what it is or what to expect.
Counter Strike with abilities
I think paradox has forgotten how to make games
They know how to make dlc tho
And how to buy game companies/teams
They just don't give their teams time to finish the games. Might need 3-6+ months more to not get shifty releases like they've had lately
Oh shit, that's big news in the gaming community.
Game Informer has been one of the biggest gaming sites for ages.
it was the magazine I read back when people got their gaming reviews via magazine
Anyone here ever read PlayStation magazine back in the day?
The PS magazine's demo disks were GOATed

I never trusted the company-specific magazines
the demo disc thing might've ended by the time I was following games, the discs I always hear people get nostalgic about are PS_1_ demos, and I showed up at the PS2
I did read the italian edition a lot for sure
Man, I should check if I can find one, I bet the reviews were really bad
I hope your editon comes with many pasta puns

This is the most bizarre but oddly coolest obscure old horror game I've seen
The Dreamcast gives us one of the most BIZARRE and hilarious horror games ever made! ILLBLEED has us surviving a deathtrap carnival full of gore and absurdity.
(This is a more heavily censored version of the video. The original upload was age-gated. It's a bummer that I had to censor so much, but that's youtube for ya.)

Real sad that you don't really see games like this anymore, kind of can't make a game like this nowadays considering how long and expensive games are to make now, you kinda have to go for the safest way to ensure it sells and even then you can't be sure, so you don't get these really weird super experimental type of games like this
so about indies
I saw a streamer play that
Well you know what I mean
at the time this was probably the equivalent of a AAA game or something I'm guessing
looks more like the sonic.EXE version of chip
yeah, it's definitely different now that the top tier of game project sizes and budgets is so much bigger and thus so much safer
Long story short. It was from a dreamcast horror game where the chapter parodied toy story
but since many of these "indies" are only slightly smaller than what was once an old-school "AAA" project I don't think we've lost anything
I guess I mean more that you can't really make a game like this anymore unless you're an indie, so you're not gonna see any games like this from bigger or even more medium sized companies, and even a small company like Illbleed's dev had like 20 people on staff so even a smaller company at the time was bigger than most indie teams now
although there are indie games that get really close to feeling like a polished game from a small company and then you find out it was actually made by like 1-2 people like Signalis and Crow Country
Hehe pp
Hehe pp said Hehe pp
Its the gurl
so far Rusted Moss is another top-tier metroidvania for me, I had to tear myself away from it to eat something
Hell yeah
eventually we'll be able to plug a few dozen of these tiny games together into a facsimile of what our actual free time would be like with infinite money
https://worldofgoo2.com/ oh hey this is out now
And it's DRM-Free
World of Goo 2 would not exist if Epic had not helped us fund the game! We were able to hire artists and engineers for multiple years to help us build the biggest game we've ever made. We're grateful for this! You've likely seen similar arrangements with other games, and I imagine ours is comparable.
If you don't use Epic, that's ok. You can always get World of Goo 2 right here on this page, DRM-free, for Win / Mac / Linux. Just scroll up there. And if you have a Nintendo Switch, you can get it on the eShop directly on your device.``` (They're going to release it on Steam a year later as usual is what they're implying)
Very weird type of semi-exclusive
The majority of a game's sales tend to be in the first year
(assuming it releases on the same platform)
yeah, timed exclusivity has been the norm for a while
I think the opening months/year only become more important as the market got more crowded in seemingly every popular genre
Yeah but it's not really epic exclusive at all
It's more like "steam denied for a year"
oh you mean the free download bit
I guess it's odd, but less odd than when they call a game a "console exclusive" because it's on all PCs but only one console
I'm just used to everyone trying to spin everything as "exclusive"
Yeah, the idea is Epic wants to compete with steam and they know they don't care about competing with other platforms, so they offer specific restrictions to make the deal more palatable
All they care about is Valve gets less money
especially in Epic's position where the standard consumer still goes "why would I use EGS?" and then spends all day in Steam without a second thought
One of those platforms gives me reason to use it
What they forgot is that Valve making less money doesn't mean they make more money
I'm sure they're aware of that possibility, these things are all tactical gambles
Whether or not Epic makes more money is not that relevant
When the biggest fish in a market declines, the gap between it and the second biggest becomes smaller
Ah yes, the strategy of increasing the market share percentage by making the market smaller
"if I can't have the sales, nobody can"
You might be able to visit for a while.```
Good answer
No!
I was like twenty when I got World of Goo
I got it from Humble Indie Bundle for one cent in 2010
I only got around to WoG a few years ago and didn't like it much lol
finally got to level 10 in fishing in Stardew Valley so I can quit fishing and build my epic skills
i never liked fishing in stardew
my wife loves it, but she's playing on a steam deck and I think it just works better to press and hold the button than to click and hold on a mouse for that kind of timing game
I love fishing i literally only fish and mine in stardew
Dont even have a farm, only time i had farmable plot was to complete one quest to get more money for fishing
my wife and I are playing coop
ah yeah i can see that working better on controller
I generally handle the animals, she handles the garden (when we have one), she does most of the aggressive skull cavern runs but sometimes we go together, she does fishing, and I do lots of general harvesting/questing.
one of the cool things in coop is we get a cabin that upgrades the same as a house. So we've set up the cabin as basically like a mega-shed. 100 kegs in the kitchen running ancient fruit wine for both cellars (greenhouse is almost all ancient fruit + 18 fruit trees.) Preserves jars filling most of the main floor. Dehydrators in a corner room. And then we have mushroom logs galore. It's actually a really easy farm to run for huge money.

to start with I think it sounds one Matt Bellamy short of a Muse song
pretty dang good though, certainly the uniquest menu theme I’ve heard in a CoD
It’s made by jack wall again. I love his scores.
treyarch staple composer, think I first remember his name in BO3 but no doubt he was on it earlier

may probably not be anything in the end but it's about the closest thing half life fans have to actually speculate about the possibility that this is happening
i want to believe so bad
is this guy trustworthy? ive never heard of him before afaik
i see
it's all speculation but whatever i'll inhale some hopium whatever
"White Sands" is a interesting codename. i know he said they're mostly random but it almost sounds like Black Mesa
For whatever reason, I don't think this is Half-Life 3, but some sort of spinoff for the Steam Deck.
Like really, ||Xen_Gorilla?||

The project names are intentionally random and not connected precisely to not draw any connections to any projects they're working on, but the project itself being hl3 is pure speculation, what isn't speculation is the stuff that did leak which are all those weird asset names in the codes and the credits of the people that worked on the project
But who knows, maybe it launches on Windows and Linux only, despite S2 working on macOS. Definitely not coming to consoles though.
I mean at that point it's basically the same as releasing it on pc and if it's on steam then might as well be
I personally am of the idea that I don't really think they would let all the Alyx Source 2 assets go to 'waste' so ever since Alyx came out it's all but been confirmed in my mind that Hl3 was gonna happen
That's what I think anyway
Alyx came out because they wanted to sell Indexes.
Literally.
They realized that not everyone has a 4090 or 1K budget, but folks are cool with buying a handheld console.

Yeah but Steam Deck has been far more successful and the capabilities aren't that far off from a standard computer that you'd do an entire game just for the deck, it's basically a portable computer so it doesn't make much sense
Except the extra buttons, like the Aperture tech demo... they might make it 'exclusive'. But who knows.
Valve is just like any other company at this point, trying to make their own OS and their own ecosystem and favor their own solutions. (i.e every silicon valley corp)
But yeah, don't expect immediate news yet. Maybe if the Deck 2 gets announced.
Duck Hunt 2

damn it now i want to play duck hunt

I am so curious how this combination of BotW/TotK player freedom with LttP/LBW world design is going to work out
all right, I think I've gotten as close to 100% in Rusted Moss as my lack of skill allows, which it turns out is 98.77% map completion
Well done
Rusted moss seems fun
It's interested that it seems that the combat is ranged focused from what I can se
Most of these games tend to be melee focused
yeah, the core gameplay loop is jumping, shooting, and grappling in quick succession
the grapple spell in particular is the most unique and polarizing aspect, but if it clicks for you then it makes this really stand out from all the other metroidvanias
I've successfully played through Hitman World of Assassination! It's been a fun experience and I've barely replayed any of the levels. Looking forward to trying Freelancer in the future. I can't wait for all my Ceres Fauna viewing experience to assist me in my Hitman adventures.

let's GOOOO
This seems to fit the bill of "So I heard ya liked Balatro..."
my son actually learned about Balatro through D&DG, and he plays them both pretty obsessively
I FUCKING LOVE BLACKJACK
i'm banned from every Strip casino in New Vegas because i'm too good at blackjack
(luck 10)
If you had to recommend either Nine Sols or Rusted Moss which one would you pick?
why am i being doubted it's true
Maybe they haven't played new vegas
wait can you gamble at Lucky 38
I don't remember, probably
I have been meaning to start playing dbd anyways
I wonder who the killer will be
Probably springtrap or freddy
Springtrap would be the cooler of the options imo
Is so much like Fortnite now
if you can only play one, then Nine Sols is by far the safer bet
it has the better narrative overall, and the combat difficulty should be a non-blocker at any skill level since you can always switch to Story Mode and get damage multiplier sliders (while Rusted Moss can't really make the grapple "simpler" like that), and there's more content in general
I'm not an habitual metroidvania player and Nine Sols clear and obvious polish seem like would be the best one to try, but I do like how unique Rusted Moss looks.
I'll probably go for Nine Sols and maybe grab Rusted Moss in the future if I get an itch for more in the future
yeah, if we're talking metroidvanias I'd recommend to someone who hasn't played many of them already, top picks would probably be Ori and Metroid Dread
part of Nine Sols' appeal is the difficult parry-heavy combat so even with the very nice damage sliders that's still inherently less mass appealing than those two
I did play Ori and Metroid is nintendo stuff so not something I'm especially interested
cool
well Metroid is less Nintendo than most Nintendo stuff but still fair
(unless that was code for "I don't own a Switch")
I mean I also don't own a switch but I don't own a switch because I'm not interested in Nintendo stuff
I could buy one
fair
anyway yeah sounds like Nine Sols is a good bet
for me personally, Nine Sols and Hollow Knight are tied for best metroidvania combat & bosses
imo the most important differences to know going in are that, compared to HK, Nine Sols is much more about parrying than jumping/dodging, and Nine Sols' story is told more traditionally with actual dialogue and cutscenes rather than doing the mysterious soulslike thing
yeah, many have made that comparison
Which is good given how Sekiro is my favourite from game
still disappointed that I couldn't get into it
I'm mad it's the only "soulslike" kinda from From we never got an expansion for
Me too bro
playing Arkham Origins and man
Batman's voice actor is not that good
maybe i'm too used to Kevin Conroy
ok he's doing a passable job, not super bad
hey that’s not just batman that’s sonic and chris redfield
yeah i love him as Sonic
also it's weird playing this game in the middle of summer lol
why are there no summertime Batman Arkham games smh
ooo I’d play the hell outta Arkham Beach
omg and you have to beat Joker at surfing like that episode of the 60s show
For some reason YouTube bugged out and didn’t show custom thumbnails so I was treated to this gem
Funny how Rainbow is front and center in the art rather than Twilight, lol.
Oh I never thought about it 💖
i mean yeah, she's the most popular and iconic pony. i knew who Rainbow Dash was before Twilight Sparkle
But a lot of things go over my head I first play this and then Twilight become a alicorn
And only later I think wait
what game is this
Pinball FX
Monster Hunter Now is teaming up with the world's number one content creator -- MrBeast -- for an epic collab!
Oof
what's wrong
Not a great time to collab with mr beast
Probably as good a time as any tbh
Then again this was probably planned months in advance so i cant really blame capcom for bad timing
Even if it wasn't, whatever controversies he's got going on, channels this massive usually don't really get affected by drama like...at all
Not drama but a serious legal acusation
Not yet be jimmys been sending out cease and desists to anyone talking about
Former employee accused him and his company of running illegal lotteries
Yeah but like, as I said, channels this big don't really get affected that way
Like, even if it ends up going anywhere, it'll probably be some sort of fine and none will really care that much at the end of the day.
In the meantime he's probably keep putting out 200M views video
And that is IF it goes anywhere, of which I'm dubiuous about
What if he goes to jail
The ftc would have to get invovled first
And until that does its just a bad look
FTC handles buisnesses and alleged violations of Business law in the usa
Like, watch Logan Paul, much bigger channel, basically explicitly scammer his audience of millions of dollars, promised to give back the money, never did it, basically zero repercussions on how big the reach of the channel is.
It's just that the people that watch them don't care, or don't really stay informed about this stuff.
They are channel from young-ish people and accusations or shit it's stuff for eggheads for them.
Oh but it's now starting no?
The ava kris tyson stuff was more damaging to his brand than this currently is anyway
Will go to jail too
She should
Will she? I didn't see anything that would actually get her convincted anywhere
Wasn't Logan Paul the guy who went into a forest, found a dead body, and proceeded to film it and mock whoever it was?
If so, how is he still around and how are people still fans of him?
...Never mind, after typing that out, I realize how much of a stupid question that is.
She got caught sexting minors with the receipts and minors at the time confirming it
Got so bad mr beast actually had to come out publicly and fire her from the company
A criminal convinction and someone firing you bcause you are a brand risk are very very different standards of proof
Like in Said earlier. She should be charged. She hasent yet
I didn't really see any smoking guns, the victim didn't really come out against her so there isn't an actual witness to call, it's just chat messages in a public chat that might or might not have been bad in context, but I would be surprised if they raise to a criminal level to the point to be able to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.
Maybe, if there is an investigation and they learn about more nefarious shit that was going on under the hood, but if all that's there is what became public I don't see her going anywhere TBH
Do you think courts are busy
I mean courts can be busy yes
I think laws take time
I thought they did I've seen on youtube
Welcome to internet, you can either be cancelled from a single tweet you wrote 15 years ago, or have a fandom after commiting a crime
My current bet is that we wont see anything more about her going forwards, but we'll see.
^
Yeah she’s basically done at this point from all the stuff people found about her and her past
My bet is she go to jail but we never hear because in secret
So similar but different
Preeeeetty sure all the courts are kinda busy with much bigger profile cases right now...

I need to play something
I'm playing too much archipelago and we might finish ahead of schedule
I'm kinda stuck on the Dome Keeper Guild Assignments
Need them to be easier since I'm not in the mood to strategize
I did start Nine Sols and I didn't expect for it to be so...dark
Good contrast with the art style
indie game rules: the prettier the game looks, the more sad its story is
it is funny that my favorite metroidvanias include genocide cats, zombie bugs, and dysmorphic rocks
I'm hearing stuff about players not vibing with Helldivers 2's last update?
wouldn't be the first time
I haven't seen what the new update has yet so I don't know why people are upset but it's a bummer to see more people than usual being upset at the game since it was doing so good
Innocent me playing through Nine Sols.

gotta play the game for no particular reason
that's a good question actually, I've been out of the loop on Pokémon. Please ping me if you reply
ultra sun/ultra moon if you're fine with a longer game, its overal;l the best imo
x/y for a fun simple shorter experience
omega ruby/alpha sapphire for a refined well made experience
sword/shield for probably the most managable/fun 100% experience
yeah, I've started an Ultra Sun playthrough a while ago. It's the kind of game I only play on the go, it doesn't feel all that engaging if I'm at home (compared to other games I can play)
Sun because

I know it's cute
oh I loved Pathless
Ixrec — 07/22/2024 1:09 AM
for small, indie open worlds, my go-to recommendations are A Short Hike and The Pathless
a big part of it is that in both of those games, the ordinary movement is more involved than just "hold <direction> and wait"; ASH has the jumping and climbing and gliding, Pathless has the sliding and shooting speed boost targets
Fucked up map generation
The relic was over here,
I spent like ten minutes trying to find the way to it
This guild assignment has melee enemies only. I overprepared a tad, going all defensive
After the middle half I found the gadget that lets you see further, so you can clearly see where I stopped strip mining
Just logged on to RuneScape wondering how I was gonna make some money to prep for stuff. Person needed guiding to a place, I took them, they gave me a million gold
How much time would it take you to get a million?
A lot without very high skill levels or insane luck in various monster drops
Just the other day I spent about an hour collecting the most profitable thing I could with my current levels and came away with about 150k
Oh okay. That's a lot but not super suspicious
I was about to suggest you might want to contact support
RuneScape is kind of unique among MMOs in that the only thing they charge actual money for is a membership which expands the game. No mtx, no pay to win. In fact, they actively search for and ban people offering insane amounts of money, ridiculously rare items, or accounts with maxed skills in exchange for real money.
So the person who gave me 1M gold is just a generous person
Right, but what if he was just a guy who bought gold from a real money gold seller and had a lot in abundance?
Well then I'm the second degree.

there is the other map that is sort of a tranzit-like
oh ghost trick, my beloved
that’s the one I’m tempted by

Why does this require me to be always online? I don't want a Playfab account
Just sell me the new megawad
I zero percent want achievements in DooM
PlayFab is Microsoft's multiplayer service, it runs on Azure
Oh, proprietary.
similar to Epic's Epic Online Services
I love the games as a service model but I think they don't go far enough
They should take my computer and break it with a sledgehammer when they're done with the game
Also, Windows only.
In an age of source ports.
Fuck Microsoft I swear.
Why not make this title on all major platforms?
And let me guess, they don't have the .wads anymore and use a proprietary format.
I swear if they do that... then you know why.

damn i should have waited to buy Eternal until today
on sale for 10 bucks which is a steal
oh man i might have to get 2016
only 4 bucks
i think "the game went on sale a day later" is a legit reason to refund on steams policy
This is only for any of the online stuff, I'm guessing
Probably only for the new deathmatch and co op modes
Since they don't make it explicitly clear, there's no way to actually know until the product is out
Nightdive is good about sticking to open formats
pretty sure the new episode will run in source ports within a week, if not day 1
This basically looks like an officially-sanctioned gzdoom in terms of combining everything into one unit
I know it has nothing to do with gzdoom
Kex Engine becoming the go-to commercial old-school game engine, lol
Looks like I already own the combined version 'cause I already had Doom on Steam. Nice
I wish Kex was open sourced, it's quite impressive to see
although the term "engine" is a bit of a misnomer, it's more of a framework similar to RenderWare
This new episode looks really cool ,love the flamethrower
whoaaaa
I have completed the DnDG purchase for my son
Omg in they included metal remake of doom ost in this update
this is so cool

I'm real happy this game is looking like it's gonna be great because so many other fighting games right now are anime fighters or team fighters and I don't vibe with those as much as I do a nice classic 1v1 fighting game like this, never even played a garou game before but I'm looking forward to start
So I was at the Summer Game Fest and I was lucky enough to be allowed by SNK to get some hands on gameplay and time with the game! Its my first time playing and I figured after that session I would discuss with yall some of my thoughts on it. So far, very positive, and having a grand time with the game as a whole!

I am so happy you are talking about this
I am hyped for city of the wolves, just a good hard ass 1v1 fighting game
give me that modern SNK high as the sky skill ceiling fighting game
I don't even hate other types of fighting games or anything for some reason I just feel more comfortable with this more Street Fighter ish pace and style over something like MVC, it's why I couldn't get into FighterZ even though I'm a huge DB fan
I hope people will like it because it's gonna be a bummer if it drops and not enough people stick with the game after
Hmm. Trying to explain Freeman's Mind to a friend, and I'm trying to compare that Gordon to someone else, but I can't quite think of a good comparison. Anyone think of any?
In the 41st Millennium, a kult of unhinged, speed-obsessed Orks addicted to racing has gathered to engage in raucous and breakneck races during rare lulls between open warfare. They call themselves SPEED FREEKS. Intoxicated by the sound of roaring engines, blistering speed, suffocating smoke, whipping winds and scorching fire, these Speed Freeks...

they adjusted the price to account for the fanbase 😛

We're excited to share SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS with you this October and see a new generation cherish this game as much as we do!
On 9/9, the original Sonic Generations will be removed as a standalone title. But, we've heard your feedback, and want to help preserve the game.
Therefore, Sonic Generations will still be available via bundles of other iconic Sonic titles on Steam and Xbox. Existing owners of the title will still be able to download and play, as well. Lastly, we are happy to confirm that mods on the Steam version will NOT be affected!
Haha you can only buy our game if you pay more money and buy our other products too. Aren't we generous?
Most games that are on older gen consoles are still full price which is surprising.
I feel it's better than fully delisting the game.
Not a great solution, but at least you can still technically buy the game, even if it has to be bundled in.
It's better than both of those to do literally nothing

Don’t some game companies offer a discount on a version of the game if it’s going to be delisted?
Yeah in this case they're not delisting it. They're keeping it permanently at a greater price than before and including it with other games that you must also buy
I seen a post earlier where the newer version of the game would give people a discount. if they owned the original can’t remember what it was called.
A remaster
I regret to inform you that anime is at QuakeCon (complimentary)

Let's look back on the Star Fox series, in an effort to evaluate each game's merits, and find out what the future could hold.

What does glass house do? In my game it's abandoned

I managed to capture Lossless Scaling output with OBS, so here it is on Spyro (in DuckStation), increasing framerate from 30 to 120. (Note: you'll need a 120 Hz display or higher to enjoy this to its full potential)
without frame generation, for comparison
my display is only 120 Hz so I can't get that much mileage from this, but it still comes handy for games that are hard-capped to 30 FPS - it's great on Driver, Metal Gear Solid, MDK and so on
also, wow, you can wavedash in Spyro. I approve of this game already
(@green fulcrum might like this)
once you do enough at the community center (or jojamart) it turns into a greenhouse. You can grow things inside it, in any season. 18 trees around the edges, and lots of crops.
The greenhouse...is a greenhouse
Once you fix it up you can grow stuff in it year-round without worrying about the seasons, just like with greenhouses in real life.
I need it!! Winter is SO boring I only go to mines. What do you guys do in winter?
Plant winter seeds
You can craft them when you have foraging level 7, so you need to harvest random things regularly
You can also get 30 winter seeds as a reward from the winter foraging bundle
Fucking liar ass user
I was shocked my mod didn't work because it was so simple
To be clear: The mod is so simple it can't break. It works. I tested it thoroughly. I test it every update. It even works for the person who said it didn't work. They just guessed it didn't work because other mods only work on the beta branch of the game.
What mod tho ?
It's a little mod I made that adds one NPC which has one line of dialogue
The mod itself doesn't matter. Apparently, I talked with other people who mod this game and this guy has been going on every mod he subscribed to and reporting it didn't work
He did not check
What does this NPC say?
Here's an item that helps you see treasure
yeah... been on both sides of this one before
I'm in danger
this is so sick
in the winter, I still pet my animals, harvest my greenhouse (and, in my previous game, my giant mushroom log farm which was insanely profitable), make friends, and sometimes do mines and skull cavern runs
Annoyingly slow run

It was a guild assignment where you could not upgrade your drill, so you had to rely on gadgets to dig
Which made it way slower because the gadgets don't offer as good control over the process

No, at that point I got every upgrade in the game and couldn't spend my money on anything, so I didn't mine it

Trying out Axiom Verge 2
Feels and sounds nice
Different from the original Axiom Verge
I love how much effort was put into getting the copter to animate properly
Garbage writing (don't tell the developer I said that)
I guess I play the game for the gameplay though
tbf, most metroidvanias aren't going for great writing
The problem in this situation is I would have preferred a cold open with no story
The character is talkative and more personable than the previous game's
But the dialog is clunky
The gameplay is fun but a bit slow at the start. I wonder what speedrunners do to speed it up
Like the previous game it insists on starting you as an unarmed human before giving you abilities
But I think someone on an antarctic expedition would probably have brought a pickaxe instead of having to find one
no crashlanding or other excuse?
Well
I skipped some of the story by accidentally finding every needle in a haystack I was meant to search for before the dialog that explains why I wanted it
Curse my secret finding instincts
apparently I've played so many metroidvanias that now I'm accidentally getting speedrun achievements in a first casual playthrough
Well done
You should play Steamworld Dig 2
It has really nice achievements https://steamcommunity.com/stats/571310/achievements/
I know I started that once but wasn't feeling it, should probably give it a second chance eventually
I think I'll stop here in Axiom Verge 2
I found the hook
Metaphorical hook. It's an ability that lets you remotely hack enemies and choose from options that modify them
ah, so more explicit control over what happens than AV1's glitches?
Yep! You get a magic meter too. Each hack has a cost and a strength requirement
My favorite one is the passive bee drones which you can hack to sting other enemies
I can barely remember any details of AV1 any more but I feel like I never found an enemy glitch that was worth choosing over simply shooting them normally, outside of a few puzzle rooms that forced it
In AV1 a bunch of enemies spit out more HP when you kill them, become easier/slower, or completely harmless when hacked
I think some are completely pointless to hack and some are pretty fun
yeah, I think the "completely harmless" case would've been the only category where it was worth doing after the initial experiment, not sure if I found any of those where I was experimenting with it
The little uh
Big underwater plant things
They spit out health slowly and never stop
Those are nice
Tube worms
Mutants are normally super dangerous, but hack them and they become really slow https://antifandom.com/axiom-verge/wiki/Blue_Mutant

Can't wait for next gen eurojank
does cyberpunk 2077 count as eurojank?
It's made by a european country and it is jank
A little bit, kind of, it just doesn't have the whole ''we have a super low budget but we want to try and do a mechanically complex game'' thing going on, it's european and it's jank but it also has super high budget and pretty great visuals
Also the currency is the eurodollar so that counts
Is cyberpunk jank anymore? It's pretty stable these days, they actually patched things
To me, Skyrim is jank
Very
Well it also means buggy, but it's mostly referring to eastern european games that are noticeably low budget and badly optimized but still aim for a deep gameplay and complex mechanics, it's like when you're playing this game that's clearly low budget and held together with strings but is trying its best to be AAA
It's buggy AND jank
Skyrim is one of my favorite games i can confirm it is extremely jank lmao
Cyberpunk has some of that jank but it's not quite, it doesn't do anything too crazy with the mechanics and the presentation and budget are really polished so it's not quite the same
It was mostly just glitchy and buggy at the beginning but I started playing after the good patch so I never experienced any of that
I've been putting off ending that game for a while I really should, I only have the last quest to finish, but I don't want it to end
I tried it a few times since it's so much talked about. The fighting animations/style is unbearably jank that I just can't stand it
I played it once when they did the netrunners update for the series. Played it again with a different origin story and combat style after the xpac. I'd say finish it, wait a few years and give it another go

Yeah, that's foul as foul can be. That's some tortoise and the hare level of taunting, only this time the hare wins.
i can't decide if i want Final Fantasy VII Remake or Cyberpunk 2077
If you wait for a sale you can have both
cyberpunk is on sale

that's true
That's a full price game
Rebirth isn't even on pc yet
I would say you get way more bang for your buck with Cyberpunk but I'm biased because I think FF7R is kind of eh overall, unless you're reaaaaally into FF7 specifically

that modder also has a bunch of mods for other AAA games, they look pretty great
This is the Cyberpunk mod from the series: Hogwarts Legacy, RoboCop: Rogue City, Jedi: Survivor, and Jedi: Fallen Order.
Even on the current settings I'm on the game stutters a lot of times when I'm in any of the bigger parts of the city so I'm steering clear from that lol I haven't put any mods at all in my game and I haven't had issues, I'm sure there's a lot of mods that add cool stuff even now
yeah i ended up getting Cyberpunk, cause even though i really love Final Fantasy VII i'm probably just gonna wait till all three parts are released on pc to start playing
ive been meaning to watch gameplay of it, i really like Signal Simulator which afaik is pretty similar ?
Its inspired by it.
But with actual events, consequences, things to do, fun things to do, and more.
Its like if someone said "Let the Source Engine be in Unreal Engine" and then proceeded to add some fun gmod stuff.
that sounds awesome
But yeah, its not even a jumpscare simulator either.
It actually generates fear, slow burner type.
The best part?
There are different types of entities. What I got was a 'forbidden'.
Forbiddens are the craziest most rare ones.

This is the craziest one I've gotten, and apparently it was 'bugged'. It was supposed to spawn a few years later after the game was finished.
Regardless, apparently there is still way more things hidden in the game. So its cool as hell.
this made my heart stop 😭
But yeah, that's so far what I've encountered.
There is still way more crazy things.
And its all RNG based, with a few scripted events of course... the game has a story after all
Oh I forgot, there was this one… I alt+f4 too because of the irrational fear I already was dealing with. (The game threw me lots of spooks that day) Ironically it seems nobody else has gotten it so it remains a mystery.
can you describe it ? im not seeing anything

It's story based Slay the Spire with a timeloop element
Unlike Slay the Spire the map doesn't change between game to game, but since you are looping and your character knows it's looping, whenever you come across elements for the 2nd time you can pick different options.
Like if you learn the password to hack a golem in a previous run, you can then do and avoid adifficult fight in subsequent runs.
From what I played the gameplay part isn't as tight as StS but also...what is?
I would say it's a good part of the way there, and the unique mechanics make it at least different enough to warrant notice

I played Undertale and it was AWESOME
it's pretty neat
Super cool, simple to get how to play, many emotions, surprises, engaging, and weird and funny. And also great music
also very meta
What does it mean
what do I mean by "meta"?
Yeah
well, primarily all the ways Undertale is a deconstruction of traditional RPG storytelling and structure, though iirc there's also a few bits of explicit metatextuality (I think Sans distinguishes between the player and player character once or twice?)
Is Deltarune similar to Undertale?

Only the first two chapters are out, however. And while they do provide their own experiences, you might come away unsatisfied because it's unfinished.

But play them anyway unless you want to wait until the heat death of the universe for all chapters to be out
It took 3 years between chapter 1 and 2, and the wait until the next batch (3&4) is probably going to be a little longer at this rate

that's nice to see but at the same time, I feel bad for the studio who developed that game
oh, what happened? I'd only heard about the game itself being meh
well yeah, the game didn't sell very well and I think they had to lay off some employees as a result
I don't recall this 100% though
there's clearly a lot of effort that went into it
IIRC it was impressive for atmospthere, and it looked really good
Story was meh and gameplay pretty bad
it was touted as a spiritual successor to Dead Space and it's not my kind of game though
so I'm not sure if I'll play it either way
Yes that was the idea, sadly it didn't deliver

yeah I watched some videos on how it compares to DS and the universal consensus was not really worth it
It was unfortunately not a very good game
So it has. It's only been over a decade.
The only thing I know from the first game (besides the fact that it's a sci-fi ship-to-ship combat game) is that the TEC theme is the sexiest f*cking military song I have ever heard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNxkhKrME9c
Made by Sins of a Solar Empire™ . Composed by Paul Schuegraf
Okay, actually, second best. Klendathu Drop from Starship Troopers is still the best military theme.
But what about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5hCkh2AH58 ?!

That is fun.
While catchy and an earworm, it doesn't really feel like a military theme. It sounds more like a game theme or show theme.
Speaking of which, a Helldivers show would kick so much ass.
I mean, isn't that starship troopers

Me, finding a trailer for a new game that pretty much looks exactly like Karl Urban's Judge Dredd movie, but as a game:
Also me, seeing "squad-based, Immersive Shooter":
The music and atmosphere of this game continues to be unreal
I'm legitimately happy that this game that I thought I wouldn't be able to get into and I'd probably never play again continues to consistently surprise me every single session I play
The track for the dungeon before this area was also fantastic, big old school EDM sort of vibes
Undertale is my favorite game 💚 I'm glad you've found it and enjoyed it. deltarune is similar to undertale. I strongly recommend playing them. Some people prefer to wait until the entire series is out, but I do not.

Call of Duty will soon give players more control over downloads - decoupling the download of Call of Duty: Warzone from other titles. File optimizations also coming https://www.callofduty.com/blog/2024/08/call-of-duty-optimizing-experience-roadmap
Activision is finally doing something about Call of Duty’s giant downloads. Warzone is being removed from the default download for the annual games and a big tech update is on the way with "file optimizations" https://www.theverge.com/2024/8/15/24221080/activision-call-of-duty-downloads-black-ops-6
oh my gosh
It's real lol
finally those cod players can get back some storage space
wait, texture streaming?
that's.. weird right? why would you want to stream in textures over the internet? Am I missing something here?
So you don't download all of them at once
Instead you only download what you use, AND you get to play earlier
(You start by downloading a basic small version of all the textures, you don't end up entirely textureless)
I suppose that makes sense in some places with better internet than mine haha
It's a common thing in MMOs
that's neat. So if you only visit 2/10 areas regularly, the streaming cache gets used for those areas and you save on 8/10 areas higher quality texture files?
Yeah
Mind you, this won't fix the problem for call of duty because their problem is uncompressed sound files
ah, I didn't realise sound could be so storage heavy.
It doesn't have to be, but Call of Duty does no compression, not even lossless compression
Most games do lossless compression or low amounts of lossy compression
Lossless compression cuts the size of a sound file by half, and lossy compression cuts it by like ten or twenty
right right, and it's not like there'd be any difference in audio quality with a lossless compression
The difference is in the time it takes the computer to decode
It's very slightly slower
Call of Duty wants to save every little bit of performance
oh, they are relasing on Ps4 and XBOX one still?
huh, then i guess they need everything they can get lol
I wonder if the game installs are different from generation to generation in consoles
They should be
Had a brief look into it and they are different, by about 14-15 GB or so for MW III
at least, not including zombies and stuff like th at
its kinda refreshing to play on a smurf account, dont have to wait ages for a single match atleast cuz when it gets to high ranks theres a very little amount of players and dont have to go through a million casual games of disconnects just to find a singular good player
Smurfing comes at the expense of low-skill players so I would rather not play the game than smurf
it doesnt take many to reach your appropriate rank in a good ranking system
im hovering slightly below my usual rank so players are not too far off my level to the point that ti would be unfair
Yeah but in a good ranking system you wouldn't need to smurf because you'd be appropriately ranked
theres reasons to smurf even in a good one
1.character experimentation for universal character/role rankings
2.less stress
3.much quicker match times especially usually less active times
tekken is probably my favorite ranking system since its per character not profile
but it has prowess which is universal so you get also matched against other players of your approximate skill level that may be playing secondary characters rather than main
but it has other issues....the complete opposite of smurfing
I remain unconvinced any of these are more important than other people
alright another main reason then is high ranks have a significantly lower amount of players than ranks below, often even slightly below,so you end up fighting same 2 players over and over again and that gets boring as shit and/or annoying after a while
my brawlhalla experience in diamond has been literally like...6 total players just getting rematched against me
especially since i mainly play 1v1 at very late night time
and i really dont like that shit cuz ive alreayd had enough of playing against same people again and again in discord fighters(games with small enough communities where you cant realistically find matches in matchmaking)
Yeah, but fighting worse players than you is not good. The solution to a game with limited matchmaking is either to arrange matches in a community server or play a different game
thats why i specifically mentioned only being slightly below regular rank, yeah i dont enjoy or want to play against really low rank players, but slightly below can still be a challenge and a fair fight for both
those guys are so cracked
talking with super players in the server its insane
Do you use keyboard or controller
No
no hits touhou with mind
Dome Keeper's challenge difficulty assignments are HARD
Took me like four tries to get this one done
An easter egg!
he said the thing!
I had no idea this game had voice acting, wow it is not good by modern standards
yaaaay SotN
wait, Death just took all my stuff
no one told me Alucard was as bad as Samus at hanging onto stuff
you know what the weirdest thing is so far
ten minutes in and this feels more like the Metroids I grew up on than most of the modern Metroidvanias I've played in the last few years, it's even got the same colored squares style of map
The PSP version re-dubs and changes the dialogue to fit more with the original script and it's really good
https://youtu.be/b4-aFrKoL-I?si=IEVPVoLIBGlR_Kwy&t=160
Just small comparison of openings of both versions.
If anyone knows how to make that photo appear correctly on epsxe, then please share. Ppsspp still has a long way to remove some of the glitches,
But I can't say that out loud because most people prefer the original version and they'll get you if you say otherwise
I see what you mean, this is also cheesy AF but it feels like properly produced cheese I guess
It feels like proper japanese-text-translated-to-english type of cheese I'd get from an anime or a tokusatsu show, meanwhile the original is more like... ''Die, monster!''
Unfortunately I never was able to get into Castlevania so that's about as far as my knowledge of this game goes
I tried multiple games and the gameplay just never really stuck with me for some reason
i like Castlevania 1 2 and 4
I know what you mean, my teenage exposure to Castlevania was Dawn of Sorrow and while I enjoyed it it just wasn't on the same level as Metroid ZM/Fusion/Prime for me
oh boy, it's time for emulator debugging
I played Aria of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia to try out the more 'modern' ones, I did it pretty recently I even talked about it here
I got pretty further into Order of Ecclesia than I thought I would buuuut it just didn't quite stick with me, but it's fine, it's a different strain of this genre that's just not for me
I like my Blasphemous and Metroids
interesting that not having a bios file broke only reading the save file, not creating it
should we talk recommendations based on what parts you liked or are you metroidvania-ed out for a few years?
I'd probably be down to play a new one if it caught my attention enough, I'm just currently trying to get through all the other games on the backlog and I still haven't even installed Tunic at all, but I don't think there was any other metroidvania that caught my attention after the last one I played
fair
now I'm remembering why; that first boss fight was so jank omg
you just have to know to stay on the side with a platform or it becomes impossible to avoid the attacks later

i mean, 99% of the reason why it's a meme is because of the vaing, tbf
well I didn't know that
any fans of metroidvanias in general but also Castlevania, I wanna recommend Castlevania Revamped (though I may have done already but it is that good imo)
original CV1 layout turned into metroidvania that feels maybe the littlest bit more metroid than vania in its metroidvanianess
that is a mouthful, remember when peeps were calling it search action
tbf at least that's descriptive
I've seen multiple people express that we need a term for "soulslikes" which is not like "<game name>-like", but I don't think anyone's come up with a decent alternative yet
"dying-a-lot action" isn't very catchy
whoa, I have to unequip my sword to use a potion
Sin2's orbital thing seems like it'd radically change how the game is played
Idk I like the "<game name>likes" genre names because they aren't misleading. You either recognize the game and go "oh, so like that game," or you don't.
"search action" is one of the better game genre names I've heard though
I don't know
https://fixupx.com/iamExpel/status/1824498467781173705 when you get so annoyed at being called a hacker, you offer a lesson
it can be like that, but then people use "soulslike" in so many different ways that it often is misleading in practice
I think both kinds of terms are valuable, smaller subgenres in particular benefit more from direct comparisons between single games
I hope one day they bring back the whole 'play music with wacky controller' genre, and one of the games is based on souls music and someone describes it as souls like
This is so weird and cool
You got really lucky
You can leave it and it'll spread seeds

Remember to put a tapper on it before winter to get free shrooms
During the winter it will revert to a stump and won't produce anything
As someone who is completely foreign to Hollow Knight, it's been quite the show these past few years seeing all the Hollow Knight fans slowly slip further and further into insanity because of the lack of updates
meanwhile the sensible ones like us either play mods or play other metroidvanias
have we mentioned Nine Sols is GOTY
come to think of it I still haven't played the Pale Court mod
I think I've randomized HK enough times I just wasn't feeling it
I understand the frustration of this cool game you look forward to not releasing or getting any updates, but some people are losing their minds over it
even just in that thread you can read comments from people who are genuinely distraught over this
something something Half-Life 3
I feel like people lost this much enthusiasm for HL3 back when Gaben said they were ''actively working on it'' for like, the second time after a few years
I guess I don't hear much about either except the occasional "would be nice if that finally came out"
everyone I know has made themselves busy playing something else
Hope for HL3 was restored a bit after Alyx was released
However, whatever Half-Life we're getting next is likely going to be very different from the original concept (epistle 3)
given the series' past, I'm half expecting them to wait on HL3 until we're all wearing VR haptic suits like in Ready Player 1
HL3 at the very least being considered after Alyx is unquestionable to me, but you still don't see the amount of hype as with Silksong, people now are in this state of ''oh great, if it drops that's cool, if it doesn't, nothing changes anyway'' rather than ''I've been waiting for this game for so long I now hate the developers''
I dunno why though
it's not like either game is in a desperation genre with nothing else to play
Hype is going to be low until it isn't (i.e. a new announcement or trailer comes out)
The new material itself can ignite the hype machine. It doesn't necessarily need to exist beforehand
Personally I'm pretty confident that whatever new thing Valve does with Half-Life is going to be great on its own merits. They've proven that they still have the juice
I'm gonna guess the reason for it is just because indie games usually don't take this long for a sequel, it has been like 6-7 years since Hollow Knight so I want to say that that's the main reason
Other than that, as someone who is outside of this, I guess Hollow Knight was just that good?
well, yes it was, but lots of games were that good
beast

Its kinda weird how Valve hasn't bothered porting HL1 & its expansion packs to consoles now that I think about it.
You got Quake, Doom, but no Half-Life.
Literally free money for Valve there.
Like I'd actually buy it.
Half-Life parasprites
Valve stopped most of their console endeavors a long time ago, though they made an exception for Portal 1/2 recently
they stopped before consoles could run their games really well 👀
it's ironic how the Portal Switch ports are the best-performing console Valve ports by a landslide. Console CS:GO or X360 Portal were never anywhere close
Ehh, it takes forever to load.
For whatever reason, my Switch doesn’t enjoy it.
It’s disappointing because clearly they can do something great but refuse to do it.
i love them so much. the animation where Gordon tries to boop it and then it tries to bite him is really good too
this feels way too early to be finding this particular staircase... (IGT is 2:44:53)
ive been playing lots of Vampire Survivors lately which is vaguely inspired by Castlevania
aesthetic wise i mean
ok this game is really, really bad at making it feasible to discover where to go next without revisting every tile of the map, this is I think the 3rd time I had to check a walkthrough
It was inspired so much that it actually copied the sprites from Castlevania
(They patched them later)
What game is everypony playing?
played some Vampire Survivors earlier, i might play some Half Life now
Nice.
