It seems like the new game is quite affected by what they tried in botw and totk, which also makes sense
and the same logo font, so they presumably want us to make that association
finally a good zelda game
oh the EoW trailer even has that iconic BotW shot
probably should've watched this sooner
Eater of Worlds?
And the rainforest
East of West
I feel like people will end up calling it echos
Well at least its a good record
Look forward to the eventual tropical freeze remake for the switch 2 probably
when will we get a new DK cartoon?
yooo new Scott interview
August 6th 👀
me: why is my project zomboid in-game map world map progress resetting every time i start my singleplayer world?
modpack i based my current run off: yo its probably this https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3129971832
me: yeah that would do it
haaaah, that's cool actually
for reference: at the end of Crow Country there's a Snake Eater-esque 1 minute long ladder descent, it's a very beautiful and cinematic moment with an amazing track playing but I can see how it'd be a bit annoying on repeat playthroughs, so that's actually a neat addition
yeah, I went up and down it a few times when I was scouring the map for 100%
amogus
I tried out Xdefiant yesterday. Its not bad
Its kinda like if CoD was a hero shooter
yeah, it seems alright
I ended up not playing much because I didn't really feel like a cod game atm
of all the dumb things i've done in Sunshine... This is one of them
oh no, did you try to go for it early?
FUCKIN NAILED IT
nice work!
(I'll be real, I didn't even think it was possible)
Like, I think that's barely possible, given the literal pixels I grazed it by
yeah it looked very touch and go
That's actually very impressive
There are other ways to get up there tho, using glitches
perfect, ur now ready for kugane tower

It's been a long time since I've played and 100% that game.

With the recent Elden Ring patch, you can summon Torrent for the Elden Beast boss fight. HOLY SHIT!
#EldenRing #ShadowoftheErdtree
Considering how much he moves, it feels like he was designed with that in mind in the first place 😐
Oh god sunshine again
The love hate relationship
Train
train

haha, I recall doing this
60 FPS might make it a bit harder, I don't know
most side effects of 60 FPS in this game are not at your advantage, unlike say, Gran Turismo 1/2
I did that too
I didn't even realise you could do it, I was just fucking around and thought "Huh, could I?"
proof that Mario Sunshine is an immersive sim
Now hc needs to beat mario galaxy
Holy shit that is actually legitimately a game changer
This fight was so infamous because having torrent would've made the fight so much better in every way but for some reason they didn't let you summon him for it, that's actually a great change
The collective excitement over the Capcom collection is so infectious, I remember tweets about people that PASSED OUT of excitement from the MvC stuff
I do feel bad for any newcomer or child that will buy it on the switch because it has X Men and Marvel characters on it only to immediately get hit by a Magneto infinite by a mvc veteran who has been playing for 20 years

That sequel is never coming out is it
Lol
I 100% believe it's coming
In which condition, and if it'll be any good I have no idea
But if Ubisoft managed to get over the finish line Skull and Bones, somehow, they'll fucking release this one too

skull and bones had to come out no matter what due to them signing something with the singaporean government, unfortunately this doesn't have the same luxury
Yeah,Skull and Bones HAD to come out, it was non negotiable, if Ubi wasn't legally bound to release it they would've cancelled it a few years into development
I don't know how games like BG&E2 and the Sands of Time remake will fare in comparison
Luckily the last two PoP games seemed... Pretty good, actually, really good
a quick tip, dragon age games are on major sale thanks to veilguard announcement, you can get all three full versions (as in includin dlc) for about 10 euros/dollars until 27th june
i believe @graceful bridge mentioned wanting to buy inquisition on sale
im not sayin u have to do it but i aaaam sayin i think inquisition is quite fun
Oh damn, that's quite a discount. Thanks!
they are quite old games, origins is downright unstable and i recommend looking up 4gb patch to fix the worst problems, so i say keep that in mind. the games' strongest points has also always been lore and companion writing over gameplay
but i think thats a well known thing either way
still, definitely a steal for this price tag
$3 for what you get with dragon age: origins is insane value
i mean i do feel the need to bring up the absolute curse that is trying to play thru denerim. that place b 🅱️roken as hecc without a patch
my game kept crashin haaard the first time i played it before i looked up how to fix it

i want to believe that it's in the original game too
oh my goodness
30th? Holy shittu
happy flipnic friday!
i'd play it
yo what is THIS
@green fulcrum what would you say is the 'least complex' crpg? Still trying to get my notoriously picky fiancée to try one. She does also skip dialogue (heresy, I know) so it's probably not the genre for her in the first place
Honestly, Disco Elysium
Of the ones I've played
It's all narrative, all your stats are in service of the narrative
Basically no combat except if it is in a text event
Fully voice acted
Also does conversations the best every narrative game has ever done them
Not being aware of every though, conscious or subconscious, your character has in his head at any point in time haunts me to this day when I play other games.
It's kind of arguable if it counts as CRPG given no combat but if it does that's my bet for most accessible
True, I bounced off of Disco Elysium because it didn't have enough mechanics to play with

"Escaping isn't always something bad."
-Delilah June A. (1989)
Escaping isn't always something bat
Yeah I could read it with difficulty after moving to a less dim room
i love that game so much
this is super interesting since my experience was the exact opposite; fully engaged because there was zero fluff for once
Yeah you play games for story, and I play games in spite of story
well, Disco Elysium I played for story, but the majority of what I play I play for gameplay, like Nine Sols atm
speaking of which, I got the 3rd Sol last night
Does that mean the writing is still clunky?
lol, no I've got no complaints with Nine Sols' story, it's just not the primary draw
it is, yes
I played vanilla
i mean i did try it in vanilla but it only works with the squirt nozzle
Story is the part she'd least be engaged in, I think, unless it really grabs her. Don't think this one would. I did show DE to my dad's girlfriend though and she was absolutely hooked. And this was while I was visiting with my fiancée so she got exposed to DE and wasn't interested 😅
yeah that feels like kind of a death blow to CRPGs
I forget, was one of the Original Sins supposed to be accessible? I know the Larian CRPGs are supposed to have stellar combat
Honestly, if she doesn't really care too much about story, Divinity Original Sin 2 might be the best one to get into. It's big and expansive, but it's also very open-ended on how you go about things, and the story is rather simple, all things considered. That said, you do still have to pay attention, so it still might not be the best fit.
I wouldn't recommend BG3 if she skips the story because it's very heavily immersed in its narrative, and many of its mechanics revolve around dialogue and choices. I also wouldn't recommend either of the Pathfinder games because they're VERY number-crunchy and also have some very complicated mechanics at times, as well as also being very narrative-driven. I also wouldn't recommend either of the two Pillars of Eternity games for the same reason.
Honestly, like you said, CRPGs might not really be for her if she actively skips dialogue and doesn't like narratives.
Yeah, I mean... If you have a game with no story or narrative, how can you be playing a role in it? Isn't the point of a role-playing game to... play a role inside a narrative?
She's just rather impatient. Though she has gone for story in certain cases but generally tends to skip in other games
Probably not her genre then, but I'd try Shadowrun 2 or Divinity Original Sin 2 just in case
Can't speak for Shadowrun 2, but if she doesn't mind light story, D:OS 2 might just work, or it might not. It's a gamble.
Yeah, I'm just trying to convince her to try it. Would have to be streamed so I can give her tips/tutorials
I think one of the main draws for D:OS 2 is how varied the battles can get, not so much because of the enemies and characters fighting, but because of the environments you'll be fighting in. You'll be hiding behind crates for cover, trying to find high ground for sniping positions, avoiding (or creating) liquid surfaces for explosive combat effects, putting out fires, using water to dilute cursed ground and wash away oil, creating choke points for enemies to funnel into, and much more.
Not to mention barrelmancy, which is fun AF.
It's got the tactical aspect of the CRPG genre
I want her to enjoy the genre, not ragequit
I had a ton of fun with XCOM 2 (after carefully selecting settings that work for me)
Xcom 2 with the expansion and in the easy mode is pretty approchable I would say
There are even second wave options to make stuff more accessible
everyone made fun of eurogamer for saying shadow of the erdtree was too hard in their review, but now the steam reviews have plumetted from overwhelmingly positive to mixed mostly because of people saying it's too hard

I think my friend said it best:
From what I've seen, most of the complaints are due to performance
High end PCs and even PS5s are having trouble with this DLC
Fromsoft DLCs are hard as balls, they are clearly meant to be played with endgame stuff so no doubt people rushed into it with midgame builds and are getting trounced
Like, this stuff is gated behind one of the hardest bosses in the game
For a reason
this is a certified Mohg moment
For performance I can't comment until I go in
But for difficulty I don't doubt it's very hard
I remembeer DS3 DLCS and those were no fucking jokes
And ER has a higher difficulty ceiling in the base game so I'm actually scared and why I'm still trying to get ready to go in for 3 days
Yeah I fully expect to get stuck on multiple bosses for a hot minute
Unless you're really good, you should go into the DLC with endgame stats and gear, even still the DLC has its own leveling system too
There's two item that you have to get, a bit like golden seeds or something of the sort (you gather it in similar fashion). One of them increases your own damage/resistance, the other increases damage/resistance of spirits/Torrent
If you're trying to kill stuff without any of that, it's definitely harder
Also ||that fire dude near the start is just OW. I'll be back for him later||
Yeah ive been having frame drops in the dlc
reminds me of Crazy Frog
(shower thought: Crazy Frog is old enough to drive now)
give me some fucking axel F
#NineSols: FOURTH SOL DOWN
congrats! is that like a big boss?
took like two hours of grinding that boss to the point my muscle memory could keep up with it, and that might've been the single best boss fight I've had in months
yeah, the goal is more or less to defeat these 9 characters, each of which involves one or more boss fights or other challenges
this one in particular has a key item I could've chosen to use to make the fight easier but I decided to do it "legit" (and recycle that item into cash lol)
honestly it's insane how good indie soulslike metroidvanias have been these last several years
you'd think that wouldn't be a particularly lucrative genre but here we are
hmm I haven't been following as closely, though I did enjoy what I've played so far in Hollow Knight
what's come out of late?
well Nine Sols is the big one this year
Blasphemous 1 and 2 were 2019 and 2023
(B2 was a rare case of me buying and playing a game almost the moment it came out)
Grime was 2021, though I only just discovered that this year and have been playing it alongside Nine Sols
if you drop the "soulslike" part, this year also had Animal Well
ahh nice nice
oh true! Ender lilies is neat
Tunic was 2022, that's more soulslike zeldalike (???) but still worth a mention here imo
yeah fair! close enough i reckon
anyway that's a bunch of my all-time favorite games within like five years
what is even happening
Indie game boom time I guess
why technically? how did they fuck up the formula in Metroid lol
oh that was sarcasm lol
ahh right
since I went on about metroidvanias for 10+ minutes and forgot to mention the actual metroid
hahahahaha
granted it's neither indie nor soulslike
yeah true
they added a melee parry button, that makes it a soulslike
I normally don't, but parrying is extremely mandatory in Grime and Nine Sols
ah, that's a shame, I guess I'll not check those out
turns out even I can parry when it's a required mechanic
if I was good at video games I could probably tell you these two have more generous parry windows because they're mandatory
but since I'm bad at video games, I can only guess that
(well, also in Grime I got the perk to make parry timing easier, but I wasn't struggling with it even before that)
I mean, aren't you already playing fairly difficult games? I don't think you can be "bad" at video games playing soulslike metroid vanias
it's all relative
and largely tongue-in-cheek
but it's also true that most people I talk to who play these are significantly better than me at them
e.g. in Hollow Knight I simply cannot beat Pure Vessel, but it seems like everyone I talk to who finished the game at all is able to get past that
fair enough. I haven't gotten far enough into holoknight to see that boss
yeah, that's in the optional postgame DLC bonus bosses
HK went kinda overboard with the DLC
hahah incredible
in a good way
I would say though, the type of people to talk about a game are more likely to be the more invested and practiced players right?
ah sorry, it's hard to read tone at times on text alone haha
yeah that one was kinda subtle
difficulty is also a lot more complicated than a simple linear scale anyway
I think someone here once said they found Nightmare King Grimm harder than Pure Vessel, but I can beat NKG semi-reliably (and that's one of my all-time favorite boss fights)
yeah true, it's a multi faceted gem
it makes sense because NKG is a more predictable, learnable boss, so after I've practiced a few times I can do it almost hitless
while PV's attacks are just faster, in my case too fast to react to at all
yep
you might find reactions easier on keyboard, at least, for certain actions
not that this is a genre where it matters much
true, i just found my unfamiliarity with controllers slowing me down in hollow knight specifically
yeah, familiarity overrides most other factors
I'm the opposite where a lifetime of controller gaming means I prefer them for everything that supports them
nope
or will when it comes out
aww ok, apparently they've made pretty good schemes to play PoE 2 wiht controller
RPGs just aren't my thing, when I do play them it's strictly for the story and the gameplay is usually an obstacle
huh. that's such an interesting viewpoint
yep, Flitter's the exact inverse so we get a lot of odd contrasts there
I wonder where I sit on that line? Probably at different spots for different genres
I certainly care less for story in FPS games than I do in ARPGs
Last Epoch was fantastic, and much more relaxing than PoE 1
tbf it's pretty rare that FPSs try to have a good story
I think the only one i can think of that had one off the top of my head was Titanfall 2
the main reason I have "played RPGs for the story" so many times is that many of the games which try the hardest to tell a truly intricate story are some kind of RPG
yeah fair enough
I should play more of XC3
i grabbed it at launch, playd a ways through
then kinda forgot to play any more
story is great though
though it feels like my appreciation* changes as I do
ah, dunno anything about the Xenoblades
no worries, I can at least recommend 3 if you enjoy RPG stories, at least so far, even if somethings feel a bit tropey
oh actually
FPS story games?
PREY
2017?
yeah it's annoying we have to distinguish between Prey 2006 and Prey 2017
2006 was a pretty good game, but completely unrelated to 2017, and 2017's the "you're seriously missing out"-tier one
at least if immersive sims hold any appeal
mhm
anyway, personally when I do play a game "for the story" I'm looking for something unusual, which is why I have tried things like Planescape: Torment, Disco Elysium, Nier Replicant + Automata, but I haven't touched many of the "standard" JRPG franchises like Dragon Quest or Tales or Xenoblade
probably the most standard JRPG I did play was FF7 waaaay back in the day (which was how I first realized I like the story but not the gameplay in this genre)
ahh yeah
something a little more out there
I'll get to Nier Automata one day lol, it's in my l ibrary waiting for me to finish other games
(I'm aware that in full historical context FF7 was the big subversion that then became the new standard, like Evangelion or Madoka in anime, but these days FF7 does feel "standard")
so what I've heard is the typical formula from stuff like Dragon Quest is a chosen one shonen protag who always wins with the power of friendship fighting some demon lord bent on world domination
while in FF7, you start of playing as terrorists, the protag is unfriendly and brooding (in retrospect, one of those "90's antiheros"), multiple characters think they're chosen ones but are very wrong about it, a major character gets famously killed off for real halfway through, etc
it's one of those things that feels super weird to explain in retrospect since at the time they just assumed everyone knew the "normal" formula being played with
it's like explaining Evangelion is doing something weird and different when it turns out the untrained civilian teenagers don't want to risk their lives by getting in the giant mechs
yeah, the cultural osmosis has shifted such that the old stand outs are the new defactos
I'm honestly a bit sad about Madoka though
Feels like it killed generic magical girl shows
it does feel like it's been a very long time since we had a great normal magical girl show
I'm not sure there was much left for Madoka to "kill off" tbh
oh well, hopefully someday
aye aye, though even if it does come out
I'm pretty happy with just Cardcaptor Sakura and Ojamajo Doremi anyway
That's fair
(I tried a few others like Precure but nothing else grabbed me)
Cardcaptor Sakura is great
I should really re-watch it at some point
properly in order too
not just TV random
ok, i gtg, been lovely chatting to ya. Hope you have a ncie day Ixrec

WISHLIST NOW ON STEAM: ht...
This is.....beyond unexpected
For context , this game was developed in 2010 in russia and was completed ,just out right
t a full game ,not beta or alpha , but due to internal problems in the studio the game simply never released
After years it got leaked and was available for anyone to play and now they seem to release it officially in steam and consoles
niiiice, after the 5th Sol I get ||double jump||
that opens up practically everything
Left crystal dash next?
I'm not getting a crystal dash vibe from any of the level design so far
Ixrec: I will recommend Grim Fandango to my dying day as a fantastic story game - though being a lucasarts puzzler, it doesn't have too much gameplay wise
I know I tried Grim Fandango once and bounced off it but I can't remember where or how exactly, may have just been bad irl timing
it's been lurking in the back of my mind for a long time as something to try again if I'm ever in the mood for that kind of game again
Definitely worth another shot! I found the worldbuilding, the characters, the humor, everything just top notch
(The voice acting

)
Also the first Life is Strange, but you definitely have to be in the right mood for that one
I did see an LP of LiS way back when it was new
but yes if we were to have a more complete conversation about "story games", not just RPGs, then narrative choice games would've certainly come up
I got my first infinite reroll run in the game. 70+ leftover rerolls and with a single guy that had a damage cantrip
Almost got over 100 mana but I killed him
Well done. Show off your items
I can send them like that or do you prefer to just list them out
This is fine
I had 5 different sides that were rerolls
Looks like you have life bolt which damages enemies whenever you use an ability, braids plus weights to make your 4 damage side into 8 and then copy it over to your middle side
Captain's hat makes dancer's dance side into a reroll side
Typically this isn't enough rerolls for an infinite, but the last piece of the puzzle is The Hand, who adds 1 to all your pips
The Flute was a huge help for the previous fights too
Flute is good here because you don't have any gray characters
Technically not but even on the fight before The Hand I got to like 15 or 20 rerolls before killing the enemies
Yeah, if you get lucky you can stack up a lot of rerolls, but you need six reroll pips before an infinite is likely
Now I'm wondering if it's possible to get all 6 sides of a character's die to have reroll
It is!
Now that'd be something fun to encounter
1- Pike. (Replace all damage sides with my top side.)
2- Compass. (Flip the left side to the top side.)
3- Sushi. (Replace left side with reroll 2.)
4- Bag of holding. (two more item slots.)
Instead of bag of holding you can use any other item or blessing that gives you extra item slots
Put all of these items on a character with six damage sides like ludus or curator
There are other builds that give all your sides reroll, but this one's the easiest to get on classic hard
That's interesting. I should try to get it at some point
Though I still need to unlock curator before that
I don't remember if curator is the T3 yellow who has all damage sides or if he's the one with two shield sides
Yeah it is
The T1 and T2 version of the character will also work for this build
I'm guessing this one would also work in this case
Yes! Though I usually don't like picking up roulette unless I have a left side replacer, an item that removes the forced death, or a character that revives
Unless I'm super desperate for damage
Oh yeah, definitely, but just in the case if we're going for the 6 side reroll
Also what's the deal with the Statue hero? Is it literally just there to tank damage?
I mean it wouldn't be the worst if it had a passive that made it so enemies target it first or something like that but as it looks right now it's just overall worse than the T1 greens
Statue takes your side replacers
Enemies also target it with their heavy attacks since it has the most health
Oh I actually didn't even think of them. I guess it could be good with the right build but it still feels a little underpowered compared to Mimic or Sphere
Don't underestimate what a good bag of HP can do for you
Each have their uses
Statue is amazing when you have flesh sides, for example
I love my gamer sense
I got to rank 30 in Tiny Rogues and unlocked the last Gift tier
and I take one look at the Broken Hero Sword and just immediately think "This is going to be some OP shit if I take this."
I looked it up and I was vindicated immediately
I guess I'll have to experiment with it a bit. I suppose I'll find how to use it throughout the run
In general greens are esoteric classes. Fun to play with but perform less well than the other colors from the viewpoint of trying to win every run
i hate how the Broken Hero Sword is better than my starting weapon
this was the most exhilarating experience I had with an RPG and it was a random quest boss
Not having any more revives, the boss being able to one shot my party except me, having to decide between healing or taking advantage of her weakness to keep attacking, getting that satisfying final hit
Oooo what game? It looks so pretty
Forza Horizon 5
Oooo we could race one day together if you want! I like Forza games
I'm not the best driver around but I enjoy it a lot 💖
Niice
You can add me already if you're on xbx
JeeBzToast
damn, that was too cruel
4 force attacks in a row which is the only element I'm weak against
to be fair, that was my fault for not putting up a force barrier the turn before
It's really difficult but I like these fights because they always force me to reinforce Nahobino in different ways, change my affinities and even completely swap out my entire party for the fight, it's a bit less about what you do in the fight itself and more preparing all your stuff beforehand, I heard people had a lot of trouble with her in the beginning of this game a week or so ago and it seems it's because a lot of people try to just force their way through the fight or level up without paying attention to their weaknesses and who they have on their party
Who would win
Sonic and his chao garden or the final fantasy guy and his I'm here to kill chaos
really like the attention to detail in these cutscenes, a lot of subtle well animated character gestures and expressions that really add a lot, I feel like it shows a lot in this scene in particular
(also Tao is really cute
)
Also, I noticed the character lip syncing is actually really good and pretty spot on, I'm wondering if this game has 'custom' lip syncing animations for english and japanese dialogue, I might have to look up the english cutscenes to compare the lip syncing but I'm being careful about spoilers since this is my first time with this game
But if I'm right, that's another really cool detail then
I think manual lipsync is pretty much dead now
language-specific changes do occur in lipsync, but it's usually the result of an algorithm
We need a sonic adventure 3 then
I remember seeing a twitter thread about how FF7 uses AI to do the lip syncing, I feel like it's a cool and appropriate use of it, it can still be done manually you just don't have to do the entire process manually but use a library of premade lip syncing animations
Yeah i like how FF7R did it
back when games did things manually (even partially), some translations got rid of some of the animations like blinking eyes, etc entirely
Starfox Assault in its Japanese version has a lot of facial animations during cutscenes that are completely gone in the US release. The characters never blink their eyes, not even once
the timing of those animations would have to be changed to fit the English dub, so it's not a simple copy-paste job
Tbh i think more games should do what FF7R did with the lip syncing
there's a lot of middleware for lipsyncing nowadays, even in real-time
remember how GoldSrc games have real-time lipsync for NPCs, that even works with voice chat from players in multiplayer?
i.e. when you use voice chat, your character opens its mouth according to what you're saying
Yeah, I always thought it was a pretty ahead of its time detail
Comparing some cutscenes really quick and being careful to avoid spoilers I can definitely see some differences between the jp and en versions in smtv, they can be minor but there's totally different lip syncing to accomodate for different timings and mouth shapes
So that's pretty cool
Yeah that is cool

@wind stump Did you see the news about the Nier Automata Anime coming out sometime?
oh yeah i should watch that, i was going to after i beat automata then you know, i forgot

umineko and my life falling apart
at least we still have CEX https://fxtwitter.com/eurogamer/status/1805186243711434975?
GAME to stop selling physical games, other than fulfilling pre-orders - report https://www.eurogamer.net/game-to-stop-selling-physical-games-other-than-fulfilling-pre-orders-report
Umineko? oof on the life falling apart thing
Hope you enjoy the anime at least?
I haven't played Nier Automata yet, but will do at some point
Hello Reina!
Well it’s in the uk and a few European countries. And yeah I’m good. You?
I'm well thanks, just tired. Watched episode one of Cyberpunk Edgerunners and I'm contemplating whether it's worth watching more
Hoping to play some Helldivers 2 later tonight

I'd like to imagine some Helldiver somewhere with a "pipp wiggle keychain"
then everytime they drop down
it vibrates like pipp would
War Thunder developer's Community Manager issues apology for accidentally using the explosion from the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster in one of the latest key images

what the fuck
how does one "accidentally" do that?
^ yeah this
Search for "rocket explosion image", choose one, put it in without thinking about it
i managed to softlock in CoTL
How does the game behave if you quit and reload?
havent done that yet,bout to
actually does it have auto save? cuz i havent saved for quite a while now
I believe it auto saves during map changes. So it would've saved right before you went into the dungeon.
alright it did save right before the crusade so its not problematic atleast
just a couple minutes of a run lost ig
initiated the same cutscene and its fine now,so seems like it was a one off bug not any consistent issue
Looks like it has changed https://fxtwitter.com/doesitplay1/status/1805214525991399774?
The original report cites anonymous sources
Anonymous sources at GAME that Gfinity talked to have expressed disappointment at the move away from video game sales. While toy stock now makes up the majority of in-store content, sources expressed frustration at the shop’s destruction of its own identity. Alongside mass layoffs, there’s little faith in the brand.```
So in the official statement they say "GAME continues to support the physical gaming market, offering a wide-range of physical games, hardware, software, accessories and digital gift cards, in stores and online."
But don't actually say whether they'll stick to preorders only
The post I just posted was game confirming they are still going to sell physical games. Which is good
But they were never going to stop selling physical games
Please read what I just said carefully
Oh right.
Because next month the 360 store closes. So it’ll be good that psychical is staying but I’m not sure if you get a dlc code that hasn’t been used would work anymore if you tried to put it on the Microsoft website
The man himself
Clearly they need to a meme stock push to stay afloat

@green fulcrum war thunder did a thing again
Oh boy
Here's a reddit post about it
Oh it made it here. Yeah, apparently the F-15 blew up the Challenger.
But has an F-15 gotten weather balloons? F-22 asks.
I'm kind of surprised they don't just random generate cloud backgorunds
The Su-15 has more balloon kills than the F-22
like hundreds more
not to mention two Boeing 747s
Because clouds are a lot harder to make than you think
And they’re talking about debris clouds, which are completely different from normal clouds in how they’re made

randomly generating one is essentially impossible as it doesn’t take into account physics or how the enemy aircraft was destroyed
You can’t use a giant explosion for a gun kill
I was wondering what it was doing in this channel until I read the post
Neither does using a stock photo like they just did
Regardless, this isn't part of the game. It's just a picture
Technically it's a loading screen in the game
Yeah, which doesn't need to simulate any physics or game state
Hey Flitter, can you think of a aesthetically pleasing 2D game where the characters are pixelated but the backgrounds aren't? The closest I could find was Octopath Traveler but that's got, like, a 2.5D thing going on.
I'm looking for inspiration for the game we're working on
Fez is the best example I've found so far
Celeste?
I'm in bed so I can't look at pictures too closely but I can find examples later
I initially dismissed Celeste but looking at it again, I see that it's a pretty good example. I think i confuse the level with the background. Nice one
kiinda starbound, its not quite it but somewhat close, the style difference between foreground and background is quite big
some terraria texture packs and mods ahve a similar style difference as well where the background is much more realistic
Iconoclasts and Owlboy might count
Maybe Indivisible?
I didn't play that one but I thought the characters were all hand drawn rather than pixel art
I mean, true. But it is a very pleasing thing to look at.
The conditions are protagonist has to look simple and low res while backgrounds have to look detailed
That's correct, Flitter. I think we're going to go a different direction after discussing it.
Thanks all
How about a PS1 game like Lunar Silver Star Story?
this is gorgious
Looks like it’s still in development https://fxtwitter.com/bgegame/status/1805269728262230467?
I have never heard of this game. That's kidna wild to me, lol
I thought we were aware of these announcements and the issue was skepticism, not silence?
iirc that was pretty common in the PS1 era
at least, using totally different visuals (style and technical) for the static backgrounds versus the parts which move around
You check out Crystal Project yet?
Like, ff7
yeah, FF7's a perfect 3D example
Both Lunar 1 and 2 are amazing games and I wish it would get remade or re-released.
As a video game to play? Yes I'm interested in it one of these days
(Darn it, I swear I disabled the ping.)
Yeah
What game would everyone like to see be remade/remastered
Legend Of Dragoon
undertale so we get 3D Toriel
As well as any of the old Phantasy Star games
My biggest complaint with remasters is they tend to include balance changes or bug fixes, which is not at all what I want, lol
And some contain the original bugs as well
I hear they are doing a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster. If it simply looks better and loads faster with some QoL changes that make common operations easier, I'm all in.
If they change the classes or add a real time mechanic for some stupid reason, I'm out. lol
I should play FFT again. Maybe A2. That game is so fun
Here let me find the comic that explains how I feel
Onosa I watched gameplay of that Aerosmith game and well it’s just
Revolution X? Where music is the weapon!

https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/1d510n0/comfort_games/ I am the fatherly figure in this comic. (Source FieldExplorers (they created this reddit post themselves))
They should remake Revolution X that uses a guitar controller.
The point is if I play a remaster, I want it to feel like the original, even if it was flawed
Onosa what guitar hero games did you play?
I could beat every GH2 song on expert except Jordan
I'm honestly curious if I could beat Hanger 18 today
I used to be able to play Cherry Pie on expert without looking lmao
Heh
balance changes I get, but you don't want bug fixes? and you're not a speedrunner?
I did try, lol. I just couldnt' ever get the feel of it
I mean if you want bug-for-bug compatibility the only option is emulation anyway
How far did you ever get into the song?
I do not recall
The solo can be between a pass and fail as it’s very fast
I always made sure I had enough star power to make sure if I missed a few notes I’d make it
Now that Microsoft owns Activision Hopfully a new game comes out one day
fuuuuck i downloaded pdaft but that specific download of it is not patched i dont think

Time to play some Warframe
haha yeah, where are you up to in it?
I’m not sure. I’ll probably just do some quick missions before heading out for some food shopping.
sounds good, have fun
What about you where are you in the game?
I'm unsure if it's the same app, but it is still by CyGames, so there's a change it'll be the same game, just translated.
aye aye, thanks Bennimarru
Where are you in the game Reina
I guess I'm through most if not all the content
I'm building up my aresenal for the current endgame stuff
I just did the new update stuff with Jade Shadows
My arsenal can do 'netracell' content atm, but I've got a ways to go and some standing to get to get to the end-endgame content that's available atm
Ah not powerful enough?
I need to hit rank5 with a certain syndicate in order to attempt the content. Not sure if i am strong enough or not
I might have to switch to a new frame too
like Wisp or other super strong frames
Do you ever use the twitch frames? Some of them are cool
Twitch frames? as in from the drops?
yeah yeah, they are great
they always give good frames for tennocon
I have most of the frames I want though, so I'm pretty content to just use those
Is the new content any good? It’ll be a while till I get there but just wanted to know how it is
the new content is pretty good I'd say
especially the stuff after the New War quest
the quest itself is pretty good too
I wonder if they would ever do a Warframe 2. But probably not because of how well each update is
hmm, well there is whatever is going on with Soulframe
that's basically a new game entirely

ok luckily i didnt have much issue finding the patch AND THE BEST PART
it came with most of the songs so i dont have to search half the internet for a song pack
somehow a very decent chunk of my muscle memory transfered from controller to keyboard, idk how that works but its working so ill take it
havent played the game for months and on controller you ahve to use only your thumbs and for some stuff index finger, but on keyboard you have to use 3-4 fingers per hand

since when does it detect it,i never had it detected before

hehe lil shits cant detect cream
I started playing Viper Racing last week because it's one of my childhood games I finally managed to track down last week
(it's made by the same developer as NASCAR Heat, which was popular in the 2000s)
I remember when one-make racing games were all the hype. This, and Porsche Unleashed (and Ford Racing to a lesser extent)
Child me would have been all OVER Viper Racing. That looks awesome
back when my father did more fiddling with PCs, he set up a LAN system to play Viper Racing in multiplayer with two systems
that's how I remember how it looked
Nice

Horse
Girl
Racing
My mind is telling me no, don't play a gacha
but my body...
is Masque aware of how badly we got hooked on the anime?
To the point we were sharing videos about the real horse races that the anime was based on
to be fair, of course people on this server would get hung up on a historically famous horse injury
They don't know what 8 bit means
They want that Fortnite user base.
But they keep makin terrible updates, like Fortnite works because it was never super serious to begin with. Always had that cartoony style, but Call of Duty? That hyper realistic shooter?
You wouldn't expect the silly anime about idol horse girls racing would make you cry but here we are
Like what’s next Call of Duty? Airplane races?
That kinda went away when we added animes skins
They had an obstacle course mode for a bit
Yeah they have been for awhile
Not gonna lie, I have played a bit of Fortnite lately… its pretty different now but still has that FOMO factor that I dislike.
Call of Duty trying to be that is just depressing, even the MCC is better than CoD.
Its just weird.
At this point the whole 8-16-32-64 bit thing has to be one of the most misused terms in gaming because nobody ends up getting it right
Four bits, two bits, half a bit, quarter bit… the wrist game watch!!
Even Windows has 16 bit apps
Well, used to.
Its super disabled and needs like fifty layers of hacks.
remember I wasn't gaming until the PS2 era so I have no idea what the difference is between 8, 16 and 32 bit when it comes to games
(in desktop application programming I'm familiar with 32 vs 64-bit issues, but since that's 100% invisible to the end user of any program unless there's a bug, I assume that's a different usage)
Primarily, 8 bit refers to the colors
256 distinct colors in the whole palette
Secondarily, it refers to the highly pixelated graphics of that era in videogames
and that's 256 colors selected by the system, not by the individual games?
No, they're 256 colors that can be loaded at once
Since the computer couldn't have indexes with more than 256 elements without losing performance
ooooh, so on scene transitions the game could change to a different 256-color palette?
Yeah! Depends on the hardware. Usually the specific colors are loaded on boot
8 bits was also common as a general data width at the time, so many overflows happened at 256
16 bit is the same with more bits. There are very few games at 4 bits
NES was 8, SNES was 16, right?
Yeah!
...This is the dumbest shit.
2^16 is... over 65k, that's gotta be more than enough colors for any scene, right?
well, in a SNES-era game before modern open world stuff
It's enough that you wouldn't struggle if you were drawing by hand
But it's hardly enough to say, modify the colors by adding light and shadow
ah right
Which often caused banding
dynamic lighting comes waaaay later
I think when I got into gaming it was considered mind blowing if your game could show a lightbulb swinging back and forth with the walls and floor reflecting that accurately
Later, developers shifted away from indexed colors and into using modern color profiles
You can read more at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_depth?wprov=sfla1
Color depth or colour depth (see spelling differences), also known as bit depth, is either the number of bits used to indicate the color of a single pixel, or the number of bits used for each color component of a single pixel. When referring to a pixel, the concept can be defined as bits per pixel (bpp). When referring to a color component, the ...
When I was a child Truecolor (24 bits) was the new hotness
theyre doing a retro vaporwave type map as well lol
Yeah thats the obstacle course one
Metroid Dread
yep, that got me as a teenager
I think on one playthrough I screwed up that sequence and the SA-X just killed me
I remember when a lot of Quake 2-derivated games went out in 1999-2000 and their big new feature was… not having paletted textures, and that was mostly it
it was enough to keep them graphically relevant for the most part. Soldier of Fortune slapped detail textures on top, which was the next big thing at the time thanks to Unreal
https://gamebanana.com/mods/521982 @fresh bane someone released a mod for one the characters I main in KOF XV in which they have twilight sparkle or rainbow dash on their shirt
ooh GOG versions huh. neat
I heard that fans have assumed that it's not actually because of AI generated art, but because the person who submitted AI generated art submitted more than 3 arts by using alt accounts
Which is a direct violation of the rules
That also

Forza Horizon 4 will delist on December 15th https://t.co/3d4zYAbGIa
Starting today, June 25; Forza Horizon 4’s DLC will get delisted from platforms, meaning that only Forza Horizon 4 Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate versions will be available for purchase from this day until
...But why?
Licensing
Wooo Riven Remake released. https://www.gog.com/en/game/riven
More QOL improvements and additional features coming with the M. Bison Update.
[Battle Settings]
The "Sound" option has been added to the Customize Challenges menu. In addition to the default match making sound, 6 types of sounds from the Street Fighter series will be available.
hell yeah
I was hoping that meant like, sound effecta during the fight too
I want my SF4 super KO sound effect back 😔
I like how Riven is the game that gives the middle finger to the rule of thirds in every scene
if you look at the promo trailer or screenshots, it's super obvious
Quake 3 hitsounds in fighting games when
(I actually have a prototype of this for Melee, need to finish it...)
Rule of thirds?
Dividing your scene into a 3x3 grid and positioning your subject along the lines
Ah
yeah, it's how most photos and movie shots are made
Mhm
not everything respects rule of thirds (sometimes, the rule of fifths is used)
Ever notice how characters in trailers are never smack-dab in the middle?
but when you position something dead center, it's always a bit uncanny
That’s the rule of thirds
always offset your subject
this is pretty good rule of thirds right here
another example
If god wanted me to center my pictures he'd put my eyes in a row atop my nose
Centered subjects look nice in some aspects but it’s generally good to avoid them for still shots
don’t apply the rule of thirds to portraits
It's your last chance to get Forza Horizon 4 before it's delisted
you'll still be able to play and some mutiplayer features
oh, I was wondering when it was going to be delisted
ultimate edition is €20, which is low by Forza standards but still pricey by Steam sale standards for a 5+ year old game
however, FH4 is notorious for its technical issues related to its DRM, especially if you've also played it on Game Pass (save data does not transfer)
I thought it was possible to do so, but requires save modification.

https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/4142827237888316812 This is not news but you might like the statistics.
Hello! More players than ever are choosing to play Steam games with a controller, and we thought it would be a good time to share some stats about controller usage on Steam along with an update about Steam Input. Stats: Controller use on Steam Since 2018, daily average controller use has tripled from ~5% to up to 15% ~42% of these controller ses...
~42% of these controller sessions are using Steam Input
During that time, the controller landscape has changed:
59% of sessions are using Xbox controllers
26% are using PlayStation controllers
10% are on Steam Decks```
15% is insanely low. I don't know anyone in the house who doesn't have any controllers
I understand it solely because I had to buy my controller separately
PCs don't normally come with one
how would I know if I'm "using Steam Input"?
Hm. I suppose Xbox owners would also gravitate to PC
(including ones that don't support it)
i have issues with the Xbone controller
fucking dpad sucks, makes playing GGS super hard
I use it to get my emulator to work
and i can't just switch to a stick when it's a game bult around 8 directional control
i mean, analogue stick, not a fightstick
I like the PS4 controller
two different things, since a fightstick has that definitive clickiness to it, if that makes sense
and depending on the shape of the... err gate? i think it's called, you can get easier directional inputs
in fightsticks
though people say that the leverless controllers like Hitbox are more consistent
I'm getting setup instructions so I guess that means I am not using Steam Input
Setup instructions?
when I click the button you pointed out
Normally if you're not using steam input it'll tell you you're not and gives you a button to turn it on
Oooooohhhhhhh yooooooo!!
I need it naow

To be fair I watched someone play Islands of Insight and it kinda sucks

yeah I always do that
I just bought it on GMG. It's not the cheapest it's ever been (that was €4.31) but close enough

Please don't
There will be future sales. Only buy things you intend to buy in the short term

BS²
at least the collab songs are free
I don't recognize that game
and the songpacks themselves have 25 songs each
The one game I might get that I don't plan on playing soon is Triangle Strategy. I know I'll play it eventually, so the question is do I buy it now that it's half off or roll the dice later, lol
she's so precious
Oh yeah, every time I try to recall Triangle Strategy's game I get "Crystal Project"
It's definitely not looking like a thirty dollar game to me
Looking at reviews, nothing in particular new happening, just I think more people finding and trying it and not liking the story, which is one negative aspect. Second part seems to be like what happened to some other games. "Good game on its own, but terrible as a sequel to [INSERT BELOVED ORIGINAL GAME]
Well, not good game but 'okay' game
(supreme commander 2 - okay game on its own, but is nothing like supcom 1)
