these are annoying
To mess with you. There's a trick that eliminates them
Be careful taking this bonfire
Do you want to know what dying to the basilisk does?
Or you prefere uncovering that organically?
The big eye dudes
why
woo!
isn't it incredible?
Well if you die, you'll come back at this bonfire, and you'll have less HP since you lost your humanity, which will mean you'll have a hard time making it back to Firelink
You don't have less HP in DS1 if you don't have your humanity
I found almost all secrets during my playthrough, I only missed || the two that were in that one room in the ocean area without a doorknob, I don't know how I would open that ||
I almost feel like doing another playthrough because I liked it so much
Kill it with fire
i saved a guy from being eaten by butcher lady
Now you get to eat him instead
also Mara's just the cutest survival horror protagonist
Buffs the damage of his allies
ah !
yeah, I'm usually pretty bad at finding unmarked secrets so I'm happy with 4
these fuckinng rats
since I'm not aware of any hints as to where the other secrets are (except ||clearly the soda machine had something|| but I have no clue what to do with it) I don't see myself going back for them; the experience would just be reading a wiki somewhere and executing the steps
Dying to the rats is a blessing.
Yeah, because rats are the most sacred of enemies
Be super aggressive
i am !!! they keep ganging up on me !
Unlike with the big rat, these rats die more easily if you throw caution to the wind and attack them through damage
Take your shield off and do a sweeping attack
If you're at full health, you should kill the rats in one hit each, and they will not kill you in time
i keep forgetting i can two hand
woops
this is the scariest dragon ive ever sern in my life
also he one shot me what ?
He's easy to dodge. You might need more health though
He has one attack that should kill you with one hit. His others in two or three
oh i found better armor
Forget armor
You want to be light rolling against this boss
His grab will kill you through armor
Ooooooooohhhhh || you were so close
||
To get light rolls, take off armor, unnecessary weapons and shields until you're at 30% of the weight max
I physically cannot see a question mark on a map in a game and go ''huh guess I'll get it later maybe'' so I went back there to finish it before progressing || and solving the puzzle for the soda machine gives you the code for the cabinet at the Crow's Lounge that gives you a map to find all the secrets ||
Judging by your stats from earlier you probably moved from fat roll to normal roll
is a fat roll the one that makes the screen shake
Yes
|| here's what that looks like ||
Now, if you want advice, this boss does huge dashing attacks and then stops. I recommend you give him space and watch how he acts for a while
cursed ??????
Well
I told you not to die to the basilisks
Prepare for a detour
Being cursed halves your HP until you cure the curse
You'll have to go all the way to Firelink and take the elevator down
I had one secret that I felt so frustrated by that I had to look up, || it's the one secret puzzle in the safe room with the trains, I was overthinking the hell out of it so I just opened up one of the guides on steam and felt stupid afterwards because it was actually really simple but I got really turned around and confused while doing it (probably didn't help I was like 4 hours into the session) ||
It's either that, I think the weirdo in the belltower also sells those
At the end there's a merchant
fucking hell
Oh yeah. That other guy only shows up under certain conditions
i thought they were just going to poison me !
That's why I told you not to take the bonfire
It's fine if you don't get cursed. If you do, then you'd better find the shortcut back
Was there a weird dude in the belltower after you rang the first bell? You should start checking there
First thing to do would be to find Firelink
not transient curse
Purging stones
For 3k I think
He only sells 5
There is also another dude in new londo, where Flitter is directing you, he does fix it for 1 humanity but also, it's pretty hard to reach
I would try the belltower dude because you can buy the item and carry it around
In case it happens again
even tho it has limited uses
Good idea
why is there no map
also I see || you decided to end the game as Elaine rather than Mara, after I talked to Mr Crow through the intercomm and noticed that in the menu Mara's name changed to Elaine and her status became Infected and washed her hair dye off I loaded up the game to see if I could choose not to talk to him and not wash the hair just in case there was some alternate ending mumbo jumbo but no, there's also no alternate ending where you give Crow the antidote either, I thought refusing taking his letter would do that but no you simply just don't take his letter, I wonder if maybe there is a point to that choice or not
||
he seems nice
ok if i go in the oposite direction i just go back to the bonfire
Maybe it's not the exact opposite direction
I recall there's a slope up and a door
The slope is in a narrow corridor
just a slope or stairs ?
If you find it, it should take you all the way back to the upper depths
Not sure.
It's been a while
Yeah I have a visual memory for dark souls maps, if I see it I would be able to navigate it but by memory it's pretty hard
Especially the Depths
this is where i currently am
Yes the shortcut is very close
at the far end is the merchant fella and on the right is a door with stairs leading back to the bonfire
And there's a hallway that leads to the boss
I think back to the bonfire and the look got a way to go up from there, should be stairs or stuff like that
if i go all the way up the stairs and then take a right then a left i find myself in the room where the butcher was but on the lower floor
I think there might be a ladder in that room
ok let me look
Not 100% sure
ok i found my way back to the room where the guy was trapped in the barrel
i dont see a ladder in the previous room bit there is a hole here that goes into a watery area ? should i go there
At this point I would look
If you made it to that room you're back in upper depths
Just traverse your way back in however path you can find. Lower depth is the one that's hard to traverse
My brain wants to say that there is a way to ascend from that room but if you don't see anything I belive you and assume I don't remember correctly
Near that area there's the butcher that jumps at you from above
There's no way to get up there
OH COME ON
well in that case maybe I will go back
Make sure to get 3k souls, or to have enough hard souls you can break down into actual souls
Next time will be a lot easier
I would usually tell you you don't need to, since I also am on the same group of people that tends to not replay games even if I think the game is a masterpiece
But I like the game so much and it's short enough that I would tell you to go for it especially since you just beat it so you'll know where to go and what to do and cut down the length by like, 2 hours probably
Did you open the shortcut from the church with the elevators?
"decided" might be too strong a word, I was just clicking on stuff then wondered why that was even a thing until a few minutes later the reveal happened
If you did that it should be pretty fast
YES omg i did
then you can just go up
no problem
i would have walked the whole way there
for the record I blame me only attempting the puzzle once on the fact that enemies spawned in front of it so I figured I couldn't justify spending the ammo until I found whatever memo told me the answer
oh fuck they're multiplying
Oh right, small thing, remember to not use the boss souls
You can turn them into weapons later
Most of them are pretty bad TBH, but like, in case you want to see what they do
Furrysword

No that's completely fair, I would've done the same except I was really getting into the story and characters || so when Mara washes off her hair I thought ''wait a minute...'' and remembered the picture of Elaine as a little girl and connected the dots, and then I noticed that if you go into the menu her name changes and her status becomes infected and fully realized what was going on ||
i dont have any boss souls i think
Yep, that's completely fair too, I encountered this with a lot of puzzles in the game until I realized that the puzzles are usually completely solve-able in the very same room you encounter them unless it requires a different item || the same happened to me with the Mush Room puzzle where I didn't realize that I just had to eat all the mushrooms and that was it, I thought I had to do it in order or something ||
what tab are they under
Consumables
Oh wait no, actually you are right
Do not consume them unless you need the money bad
which tab is consumables
If you want a clue but not the solution: || that soda puzzle is completely solveable, you just have to look at what information the puzzle gives you and what information that could correlate to around the room, it took me a second but if you just walk around and look around you'll definitely get it ||
I don't know
I actually think it was a really fun puzzle
The bosses you killed so far leave no soul
I saw the status as part of my near-muscle memory core combat loop and tried to apply an Antidote, but never saw the name lol
oh ok
Yup, I loved that I also tried to use an antidote, || but then Mara/Elaine just says: ''there's no point'', and I thought it was really cool ||
who is this lady
iirc more than half of the "puzzles" required an item from somewhere else? sometimes I already had the item but that was never guaranteed
Yeah maybe I should've clarified: all the secret puzzles don't require any items or any other clues at all, you can solve all of them in the very same room you encounter them (as in the game gives you the clues in the same room already), anything related to progression does require key items
Which lady?
Talk to them to find out
i did
She's a fire keeper!
OH, ok yeah I thought you just meant puzzle puzzle
one guy just went "mnnnn" and then the other guy was like "damn bitch you look nasty do not talk to M'lady looking like that"
since even the game's UI describes the red circles on the map as "puzzles"
Yeah, I don't like that the game does that, it's a lot more confusing than simply marking a room in red to signify ''something was left unfinished here'' like the RE games do
(I also don't like that you can't read memos outside safe rooms
)
oh I liked both of those things
see the red/blue map status in RE games is important partially because there's usually multiple points of no return so you don't know if you'll be able to go back to all those rooms, but Crow Country never permanently cuts off any part of the map so there's far less of a need to tell me if I missed any resources
(among other factors related to that open design, like way more personal choice about how many enemies I run past versus shoot)
I guess so, also the game has a built-in randomizer when it comes to resources just like RE3 does too
to be clear this isn't a big issue for me I literally loved the entire game but since you mentioned the marking puzzles I mentioned it because I found it a bit confusing at first since I would assume I left a room before finishing a puzzle but it actually meant that I needed an item to solve that so it didn't end up helping me at all when I got lost (which didn't happen that much to be fair)
But now that you mention it, I do like that || the game differenciates SECRET puzzles from puzzle puzzles, the secrets get marked with a ? on the map ||
I still don't like not being able to read memos on the fly though, but again, not a big issue, the game is fantastic anyways
I found it helpful since it marked every critical path puzzle, so I could be sure I hadn't forgotten any of the important ones, even if some of them weren't solvable yet
I will say the game has a surprising enemy variety
It's pretty cool
the memos thing is interesting since save rooms are never that far away, and there honestly aren't that many (that are "unused" at any given time)
there was actually one point in the game where I knew I'd forgotten something important in a past memo, and decided to try and get to a save point to reread them all, and did lose a little health and ammo in the process, but was able to complete the puzzle "legit" afterwards
at least for me that was fun and felt like the game working as designed
Dark Souls is very addicting
I would've reloaded my save so fucking fast
I already do whenever I waste one more bullet than necessary, but that's because I'm a psychopath
I do think that having a safe room be so close at all points didn't make the whole memo reading thing that big of a deal at the end of the day, since I could just go back there really quickly if I needed to refresh my memory
I try to avoid the temptation to save scum in these games since living with your (survivable) mistakes is such an important part of the experience
especially when I can trust the game to do dynamic difficulty/item drop adjustment if I really eff up
The game being (relatively) smaller than other survival horror games probably also helps, if I had to do that to read a note in RE1R I probably would've gotten very frustrated but for this game I didn't feel like the distances between areas were that long which really made it more enjoyable for me
ok finally made it back to the ?
yeah a lot of these "small" but actually huge design differences would not have worked if the game was bigger
That's a perfectly fair point, I'm just a goblin that must collect every item and resource in the game
Although halfway through the game, after I realized the game was being very generous with resources and it would even generate more resources so I would never truly run out, I did become a bit less stingy about losing out on ammo or health (the game even puts ammo back in safe rooms too sometimes which was really nice to find )
there's a reason a typical RE is broken up into, what, 3-5 Crow Country-like segments?
Yep, C.C feels like at least 1 and a half Spencer Mansions/RPD's
iiuc there was also the emergency option of getting more ammo from your car
There is, but only for whenever you're fully out of ammo, which fortunately I never had to do
||(also did you go back to talk to the guy on the car?)||
yeah, never came up for me, but given how her dialogue was phrased I assumed that was the fallback mechanic
I did
You get an achievement for it
I checked up on him a couple times whenever I was passing by that entrance area
|| he gets a couple new lines after you meet the real cop with the bike ||
wait I think I see the answer

Yeah the drive to see what's in the next room is strong, I love exploration in these games largely because the artistic direction is so strong that really pushes you forward
does anyone know some good skyrim mods?
Play Crystal Project for exploration
Crystal Project looks good, I just have a ton of games I want to play in the next few months
okay apparently I don't know the answer
I will get around to it eventually
(other servers pulled me away for 20 minutes)
can you even mod the pc game pass version of skyrim?
i didnt think about this till now
Are you still on the soda puzzle?
if so and you want a clue: || the colors and flavors of the soda correlate with something else in the room, like exactly the same elements for something else in the room ||
yeah I've tried 10-20 different things with zero feedback so I'm pretty sure it's not happening
I can just tell you if you want then
there's that one where the Space Core from Portal 2 falls into Skyrim
what I saw was ||the strings of triangular flags having the same colors as the soda||, but now that I've tried every conceivable way of reading that clue I'm pretty sure it's either something completely different or there's some dumb gotcha I'd never get on my own
That's a good guess, I also guessed that, but the answer is way simpler, I'd encourage you to still try it and if you still don't get it I can nudge you in the right direction
wait wait
The answer is right in your face, don't overthink it like I did
nvm got it

well no the answer was not in my face at all because I never ||walked to the opposite side of the room
||
|| fruits are friends! ||
Yeah I was trying to imply that you didn't need to deduce anything or that it wasn't some 200 iq puzzle but rather literally right in your face || if you stared at it
||
I had walked there when I entered the room because that's where you have to pick up the phone from so I saw the answer but I didn't put two and two together until way after
|| have fun finding the secrets now, there's a couple real head scratchers in there! ||
I already see a few in places I specifically tried and failed to solve puzzles before
|| also, pre-emptively I'm telling you now, there's two secrets inside a room on the ocean kingdom, it's the staff room with no doorknob, I have no idea how to get there at all so don't worry about those two ||
that's one of them
when I saw the clue about ||the weak door|| I immediately threw a grenade at it
Unless you find a way to get there, in which case, tell me!
I did the same thing too
I also tried || shooting the hinges off with the shotgun ||
same
also just to make sure... during || the section near the end where all monsters die and it gets super dark, did you get randomly shot at from nowhere?
||
yes
||I debated trying to move towards the shooter but decided I was better off moving the big crow and taking the lift down since there was no cover or obvious flanking route||
||I assume it was Marvin since he shows up later with a gun at my back||
|| I was gonna say, I was just thinking about it now and thought maybe it was him too, I also tried chasing after it but I don't think there's anyone to find and it's just a thing to scare you or foreshadow that moment a little bit ||
I had a real funny thing happen because || I got to that part of the game without having access to Crow's room or having fixed the elevators, because i had completely forgotten that the silver key is meant to be used in that door you kick in the ocean kingdom area so I was running around aimlessly while getting shot at and not knowing what to do or where to go
||
nice
in my defense, I was like 5 hours into the game at that point, I was fully getting ready to end it there but I was having too much fun that I kept going anyways and ended up finishing it lol
ok this makes sense
so during my main playthrough when I found ||the Mush Room|| it was obvious there was a puzzle there but I didn't want to risk killing myself, and now that I've tried it indeed it does nearly kill you lol
Yeah you gotta stack up on medkits for that
|| I thought I had to eat only the safe ones, which is what I did, but then nothing happened, so I was like alright, guess I'll find out later, then I came back later near the end of the game and I just.. ate all of them to see what happened, and that was it
||
Good job, the remaining ones are pretty fun
Also huh I did not get those bird collectables...
I have no idea what those are
it gave me the option to enable them after I finished the game, turns out it applies even to loading an existing save
what rank did it give you? I know something it gave me was rank B-and-up only but I don't remember exactly
Oh! Right, I remember the game did tell me about those after the credits, I got a B+ too but I didn't load up the game again to do anything so I did not see those or checked the options
I did see there's || at least two more items to get if you get a higher rank, so it makes me want to try and replay the game to see what those are
I had gotten the Crow Bar (heh) which I don't know what it does, so it might be worth to see what that's all about ||
but yeah I'm glad you liked it and that you played it too
it's a really really really good game
If Applejack grew corn
The amount of anime mods in b3 is gonna be ridiculous with this
Dear God lol
holy shit i just found a huge sword
some long word that starts with z
i had to run away from lots of scary skeletons to get it
Zweihander?
the zwei is great for a strength build
Two handed greatsword. Deals more damage than the claymore but less wieldy to use.
Scales with strength a good amount and dex a little
does Miyazaki like Berserk perchance
It's literally named two-hander so don't worry about wielding it in one hand
He is a huge berserk fan
i can tell
But Zweihander is a real weapon
oh really ?
The Zweihรคnder (German pronunciation: [tอกsvaษชhษndษ] , literally "two-hander"), also Doppelhรคnder ("double-hander"), Beidhรคnder ("both-hander"), Bihรคnder, or Bidenhรคnder, is a large two-handed sword that was used primarily during the 16th century.
Zweihรคnder swords developed from the longswords of the Late Middle Ages and became the hallmark wea...
It's big
hold on let me see what that is in pounds
Literally a good 70% of Dark Souls content is just Berserk
Not even Berserk references, just Berserk period
ive thought about reading Berserk but it's kind of intimidating
Berserk is long but it's one of the best pieces of media I've read
yeah that's what ive heard from people
I legitimately think every single arc is greatly constructed and written unlike other works that are similarly long but have large chunks that are very badly written, I never felt that with Berserk at all

Mario Builder 64 has been released. Much time and effort was poured into this project and I couldn't be happier to share it with all of you. Have fun! ๐
Inb4 it gets copyright striked by Nintendo
What are they copyright striking?
It's a program that doesn't use any of Nintendo's data
It's using Nintendo's textures in it
Yes, but if the whole program is about making your own Super Mario 64 levels and is using Nintendo's textures, Nintendo is eventually gonna find a way to either tell you to take it down or sue you, even if you've taken every step possible to ensure it doesn't happen.
It doesn't use Nintendo's textures
This sort of program is legal and widespread
Ship of Harkinian is one example. Nintendo can't DMCA them or win a lawsuit because they don't actually include any of Nintendo's data with the program. The user has to provide it
Didn't N64 games largely use a lot of textures that were directly taken, sometimes with barely any changes, from very very popular photography CDs from back then? Would it even be ''nintendo's textures''?
It doesn't use code, assets or anything else except the word Mario
Seeeexy sword
i like the serated ones more
They are cool but not relevant here
Not really
Womp womp
But yeah I don't see much reason for Nintendo to force that romhack to be taken down unless they were feeling especially shitty, although even if I was 100% sure they wouldn't, I still would have to quote Woolie on this and tell people to simply shut the fuck up and not bring too much attention to these cool community fan created content
it's especially unhelpful (and also unoriginal) to reply to the tweet of the creator saying something like ''Oh boy!!! I sure hope Nintendo doesn't DMCA this!!!
''
there's just no point in saying stuff like that
(and in the worst case scenario, it's just actively calling for it to happen and bringing bad attention to it)
They can't take it down if they wanted to
I don't even play ANY Mario games (nor follow anyone in the Mario community) and have already seen it a bunch all over Twitter, so a bit too late for keeping it quiet...
I mean I thought a similar thing of the Portal to N64 port, but that ended up getting a DMCA from nintendo I'm pretty sure
Just for making a game for their console
There was no DMCA for Portal 64
It was taken down willingly after Valve requested it
Additionally, Portal 64 DOES use Nintendo's stuff
It uses a part of the official Nintendo SDK
oh huh
I thought Nintendo took it down
Kinda interesting to see Valve be the one taking it down
The author took it down after being asked nicely
Makes sense
Nintendo is also infamous for dmcaing fan projects and then using the ideas from them in future projects/games
why did no one tell me about Gwynevere
I believe mario 35 was probably the most infamous example of it
Nintendo cannot DMCA something if they do not own it
Another retro game emulator has hit Apple's App Store: Gamma, which can emulate PlayStation 1 games on iPhone and iPad. It's already one of the top 10 apps in the Entertainment category. https://t.co/Mpw5tdzvAb
hate to be that mod, but sorry, gonna have to yeet this.
one of those icons is something very NSFW
Somebody postin nsfw in manechat
Nsfw? In my manechat?
your manechat?
Ah yes, John Manechat.
Iโm here with the IRS in regards of an outstanding tax debt. Iโm sure youโll understand and cooperate in a civil matter.
Nuh uh
Ready your pies, grab a sandwich, and sharpen your skills, cause it's almost time to jump back into the mayhem. Welcome back to #MultiVersus, MVPs!
Might have slowed down a bit too much on some of those corners
This game does seem super cool
Wow it was actually real
I think I might have the answer to that one
uggggh this stupid dragon's charge move keeps fucking me up
Yeah
The best way to learn how a boss acts is to keep as much space between you and them as possible
Then just watch and dodge, until you're confident you know how they work
Once you are, try to exploit openings
Forza enjoyer
gotem ๐
i did what you told me to do flitter and took all my armor off lol
no idea where to go now though
BUT
If it was up to me I'd go to Firelink instead and then follow a different branch
The next area is miserable unless you're super ready
ok i'll head back to Firelink then
Try to finish exploring the following areas:
1- The wooded area next to Andre (if you're feeling brave you can even kill the demon right next to him for a chance at a very good weapon).
2- The Valley of Drakes under Firelink.
And if you want to be even more ready, do a little bit of exploration in ghost town under Firelink, the undead asylum, and the catacombs
If you're super impatient just do the Valley
I was never good in car games or football games, but since I started playing with a friend I learned (more or less
) and now enjoy them ๐
ok i think i'll head to the forest area
how do i get to the Valley though just for future reference ?
im assuming either ghost town or catacombs is the place beyond the graveyrd with the scary skeletons
Down the elevator into ghost town but instead of entering you use the master key
The other elevator
The one downstairs from Firelink
Not the shortcut to gargoyles elevator
is it past the skeletons ?
(you should have found it like ten hours ago.)
Did you rescue the dude in the gargoyles area?
there's a lady behind bars here
Good
oh she can reinforce my estus flask
That's your fire keeper
Keep her alive at any cost
She makes Firelink shrine work, and if you sit there you get more estus than with a normal bonfire
Yes!
he's just like me fr
You can kill him. He comes back
damn these big boys fucked me up
Oh in the tunnel?
Good!
They are great great club club members and are teaching you of their peaceful ways by force
The big dudes are easy to handle but you need to be patient and bait their attacks
They're weak to backstabs
i walked up slowly to one and it didn't backstab wtf
Their hitbox is a little weird
When they do their big swing you can circle around, walk into them and backstab
should i give andre this large ember
Yeah
im going to take a break
It is called the valley of breaks
are they really ready to release it? they literaly have to re-make the entire core of the game for it to be playable
|| Something tells me that that's not the answer but to be fair I did not actually try that when I got the flamethrower||
Make sure to ||talk to the little mushroom boy for your flamethrower upgrade
||
We will see when it releases.
well the expectations are insanely low thats for sure, theres already 2 near perfect platform fighters that are available on all platforms, one of which is getting a new game soon and the other being actively updated and supported with a massive community
so they probbaly wont be able to compete with anything other than the fact that "hey look funny bugs bunny fighting batman"
Well if it has P2W items then it wonโt do well.
ah you're here now, and my work's over, so a few screenshots I was holding onto while chat was busy
aww this bird thinks it's a people ||blam||
so after one full secret-hunting pass around the surface this is where I'm at; this spoils bird locations but not sure if you wanted to look for those?
Ah, my apologies then. I wasn't aware, I thought it was all just jokes.
(Sorry for the late reply, I just woke up.)
Le gasp
woo
good job, I see you also got the secret on the crypt, that one and the train secret took me a while
I don't mind the locations for those things, || I knew that those random rooms like the machine rooms had something in them! you don't just add useless rooms in a survival horror game ||
It's fine
The "femboy" one is just something very NSFW on Steam.
GEEEZ GT! Try to keep it safe for woona!
It'll never not be funny to me when regulars truly accidentally post something nsfw
I had a feeling that one might've been it, but considering all the other ones were jokes, I thought that one was just a joke too. Didn't know it was an actual thing on Steam. My bad!
I have one bird left
oh nice
Next time I'll be more cautious and run it through someone on the mod team, just to be safe
Tbh
I don't think most of the mods would have caught that one
That's something that you'd only recognize if you've been trawling the depths of Steam

Oh you're actually gonna 100% the game more than me
and here I thought I had collected everything
Lunar just has enhanced eyes lol
FOUND IT
yeah since their placements follow such a clear pattern it's actually feasible to find them all by process of elimination
oh, of course, it's ||a costume room||, what else would the postgame secret be

She needs a megaman legends outfit
cute!
ok I think I need to just look up the 15th "secret"
...oh
without spoiling the puzzle I'm gonna say that relies on a thing I never saw happen so I really never stood a chance
now I believe I'm done with the game, the only significant thing left to do is replay it from the start for a higher rank, which isn't my thing
I guess I got some work to do if I'm allowed to backtrack all the way there from my last save then
And AP integration
although I could just start a new file and see if I can finish the game faster...
yep, the point of no return is after the last save room, so you can do everything from any save file except of course a better rank
someone else started AP integration already
because of course they did
oh and the achievement for ||talking to Arthur apparently requires talking to him before you meet the cop? since I don't have it||, so technically I'm locked out of that too
|| Arthur is the guy in the car right? If so yeah I think I immediately went to check on him after you save him instead of way later down the line, but I didn't know it was variable like that actually ||
There is literally a crafting recipe book in-game that you can access and find the recipes at (and it's even more blatant on Bedrock Edition, which is the edition that Xbox runs on, which has it pre-opened every time you access a crafting table), which gives you EXACT instructions for how to create whatever item you have a recipe unlocked for, and unlocking recipes is done by literally just picking up any item. Every recipe that item is in is automatically unlocked.
This is the most useless and tonedeaf inclusion of AI I have ever seen.
Anyway, in much less stupid news, Larian Studios has opened up a new office, and they've confirmed that TWO new RPGs are now in development.
Also, that Winged Hussar logo is sexy.
not gundam pleaseeeeeee
I just canโt wait until the AI makes a story that doesnโt make sense
If it's exact, it's not AI
That's already happened
AI is generally an approximator
Yes, that's what I'm saying. The crafting recipe book in-game is already much better at explaining how to craft recipes than the AI designed to help you craft recipes.
Which makes this inclusion of AI useless and nothing more than a fad to grab investors' money.
What game?
AI Dungeon
Oh I thought you meant just a story in general, although I'm sure that there have been games with stories written by AI.
Oh come on
|| I didn't even notice it was a wooden door... ||

there's also the staff note ||saying it's too old to withstand a fire||
oh that made me feel so smart
these black knights with spears are infuriating
I was really overthinking this one and wondering what i had to do, I was thinking || do I have to just guess which numbers the dials stops at..? until I remembered, wait a minute, I know how much these animals weigh! :greattrixierun: ||
Yeah, I didn't go back to a safe area to check for notes because of what you posted so that's the first thin I tried, but if it didn't work I would've gone back and checked all my notes again, I'm really happy with the little worldbuilding and clues those notes give you, it's really neat
ah so you did get that message before, that's the only thing in the whole game I had to look up since ||when I interacted with the screen I had no idea it was connected to the shooting game in any way, I just got shark facts for seemingly no reason||
Yeah, I had that thing happen with other puzzles, missing one or two context clues like that can really mess you up a lot
It happened with || the crypt puzzle where the clue is how it's described using the same wording as the ones in the dungeon so that gives you the clue on how to open that gate ||
usually there's multiple things pointing you in the right direction so it's borderline impossible to get fully stuck, but of course these are the optional post-game secrets, not the critical path
the hunt begins
glhf
Yeah I meant a game
aah so that's how we're keeping track
so here's a question, did you go back and finish the game after you got all the secrets and collectibles or did you just save and nothing else?
just save
yeah I figured, really weird though that there's no ng+ or something like that where you save after finishing the game

Speaking of overly long video essays on video games, I watched this today. (Ignore the stupid clickbait title, it's really good aside from that.)
For context, it's a video exploring two very obscure DS Horror games published by- checks notes Square Enix. And while the whole "trapped inside a cursed video game" idea is kinda common practice now, it wasn't back when this duology released, so you know, that's cool.

aaaand that's all of them!
woo, she looks so cute!
I'm really glad that || there wasn't one of these crows in the staff hall next to the lounge, that area sucks
||
oooh I think I've heard of these before
Hmmm now all that's left to do is... replay the game with a fresh save and get S rank
|| there's those two other items asides from the crow bar and I'm curious what they do||
DS and "Horror game" is quite the limited list
Man why does this make it seem like they're pre-emptively thanking people before they also get shut down
wuh oh
I always just keep going through to blighttown because it's a fun area and it's right there
my wife played through DS2 a few times to like ... the midpoint, maybe the 80% point ... and then was just like "this game isn't that good, I'm not going to finish."
10 minutes in DS3 and she's like "this is the best game. I'm never going back."
lol sounds about right
DS3 is definitely my favorite of the three
From the first time I played DS2 to the last every time I gave that game a try and started a new playthrough I found myself giving up and saying the same, the game just isn't that good at all and I never had the drive to actually finish it even after the only thing to do was fight Nashandra
what does restoring my humanity do besides making me prettier
Gives you defense, allows invaders to fight you
oh
Alright, so when it comes to humanity there's two
And heals you to full
You have soft and hard humanity, soft humanity is the amount of humanity you currently have which is the number left to your hp bar, that actually has a couple of effects, it gives you resistance to Curse and also increases the drop rate of items the higher it goes, it also buffs certain weapon types || (Chaos weapons) ||, the 'hard' humanity is the humanity items you consume which can heal you completely and can also let you turn human which lets you summon people online and friendly NPCs but also opens you up for invasions
Oh right, and reversing hollowing requires a humanity
When you are human you can kindle bonfires to make them give you more estus, and you can see summon signs.
summon signs aren't exclusively an online mechanic, some NPCs leave summon signs you can use to summon them to help you, if you find them
Ha ha ๐ซต
Summon signs aren't exclusively online but to see them you have to be human including NPCs, can't summon without being human
yes
dont make me get you
oh ok makes sense
gonna be totally honest i just kept reclaiming my humanity because i wanted my character to look nice
valid
man, when I tried this I had nowhere near enough humanity for that lol
If my only real experience with a soulslike is Elden ring, are DS1-2-3 worth trying or is there too many quality of life changes missing from them in comparison?
If you ever need humanity, you can kill rats
DS1 is very frustrating but fun
They have a decent drop chance
LOL i remember being so surprised that rats drop humanity
huh
It's because they feed on corpses
oooh
oh well, guess I never killed enough to notice that
Another thing, soft humanity (the number near your hp) also ups your item discovery
That means it ups drop rates
so when should i watch the 2 hour lore video
They're all very fun
So if you ever happen to be farming something, using a bunch of humanity is not a bad idea
There's absolutely a bit of an older feeling to DS1 and 3 in comparison to Elden Ring, Elden Ring is like Fromsoft's greatest hits the videogame so you have to understand it builds up on the foundations DS1 and 3 set, but that doesn't make them not masterpieces, they're still extremely worth games to play no matter how old they get
Never /j
The sewer passageway in the depths near the first bonfire is a great spot for farming humanity from the rats
there are more rats in there ?
Yeah, it's a very good place
ive always just seen one am i missing secret rats
You can run down and kill 3 near some crates
And to the left where there are a couple more
Then repeat
when does the paladin guy leave firelink i kind of hate him
the guy with the mace
idk his name
big boy
If you murder him he goes away
forever ?
Yeah
|| (don't read this cap) ironically killing him first thing first is the best decision you can make in the long run ||
i dont want to be a murderer
What about all those rats you killed?
I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this Cap
but this isn't Undertale
killing is mandatory
But are you really killing them?
yeah none of the enemies die they all respawn
Most of them are undead, and come back
yeah
Well not all
Dragons aren't humans and as thus don't suffer from undeath
Everything that it's not a human isn't an undead
Uhm, they're drakes, actually
โ๏ธ
though this probably a setting where dying hurts like hell even if it doesn't stick
do i ever fight the drake on the bridge
Theorically even the NPCs you kill, you assume they just fucked off somewhere because they became mad, as you can't theorically permanently kill them I think
that's entirely up to you
every time i go near him he murders me in 3 seconds
just gonna have to get good I guess
Not all of them, Cap already met an actual dragon
What dragon are we talking about?
Thats a wyvern, actually
Gaping Dragon is a dragon
Oh. No, I don't think so
Prove it.
oh yeah i already beat him
why did he have a croc face
|| the only dragon left in DS1 is the Ash Lake dragon, and even then we don't know if it's actually a dragon from the age of ancients||
||Seath||
Well yeah besides that one too
||Black Dragon Kalameet||
what exactly do drake/dragon/wyvern/etc mean in the Fromsoft Expanded Universe?
idk why you guys are spoilering these things i dont understand any of it lmao
But || he doesn't have scales so it doesn't count ||
iirc dragons are immortal
The other types are descendants from the dragons, since dragons are basically extinct
In your dreams
i mean yeah but i meant in the game
The easy way to tell them apart is that dragons have 4 limbs plus wings, while wyverns have 2 + wings
Oh idk, that game sucks I don't play it
You don't deserve me at my Gwynevere if you can't handle me at my Smough
what the fuck
kratga what do you mean you dont play it
why have you been giving me tips ๐ญ
you know you can't say that out loud
I'm just fucking with you, I've sunk so many hours into DS1
Also lore wise, dragons are essentially a primordial type of being that was there from before actual life was born to the world...
They are sorta of alive anyway but they are everlasting and don't play by the rules of current life
why do you and nat lie to me so much ๐ญ
wow like Elder Scrolls
They start to mutate in recent times, after most of them were killed
They start gapin
So you mosly get wyvern and drakes and some mutated form of dragons, like the Gaping one
they don't play by the rules of current life
Gwyn: hehe, watch this
โก
wait until you see him
It's an extremely apt name
It's a very fitting name
He's killed him
oh, for some reason I thought that was later
They did see him, they killed it
he was kind of easy ngl
Yeah he isn't too bad, the run back sucks tho
i used a homeward bone ๐
No I mean to him, if you die
I only had trouble with the gaping dragon because I wanted the tail weapon
i feel like a lot of these bosses are easy but im always way too greedy and impatient
i have no idea how to dodge this butterfly's attacks
Nuh uh (I haven't used any of them ever)
I always collect em, tho
I don't think they suck but why go through the trouble when there's a perfectly good claymore right there available with no extra hassle
You took the words out of my mouth
Is that the moonlight butterfly? Should be able to just roll or something? Idk
They don't start with C and end with laymore so they aren't very good
Just tank it and kill it faster
Because you've already done 2 other claymore runs, 6 if we count the other souls games
he keeps doing this stupid homing laser attack
why does he have lasers anyways
he's a butterfly
Moonlight
if you want to try to use a shield, you should use one with high magic mitigation
And there's about to be a seventh
i have 3 shields i think
Generally it's advised to roll frantically to dodge their attack
Then mistime it and get hit
i have my knight one, my spider one, and the other one i cant remember
also i went to blighttown and a big boy shoved me off into an abyss
mad
have to walk all the way back
I think you went to valley of the drakes
Did you pick up a shield there by any chance?
ive gone many places
you don't have the grass crest shield?
if you picked up that one, it restores your stamina a bit faster if you equip it, even if you have it on your back
it's pretty nice
It's literally the only shield worth using ever
If Havel scared him off, then he probably doesn't
oh i do have the grass crest shield
It should always be on your person at all times
it has a lower number than the knight shield though
I disagre, there are a lot of shields that are pretty good, especially through the learning curve of the game
If you are good at rolling, you don't need shields, but you can use them and do pretty good
but does the knight shield restore your stamina?
i look so badass
DS1 is such a good looking videogame
You haven't even begun to see how badass your character can look
elite knight armor is still peak in my book
is there anything worth getting at the undead asylum
i went back there a few times but got my shit rocked by a demon and then a black knight
I know I am a basic bitch for that take, but it's too good and I don't care
only one way to find out
good gravy my stamina recharges a lot faster now
It's a good shield, but as you said it doesn't have the best stats so it's up to you to decide if the tradeoff is worth it
worth keeping in mind that it has that property tho
It's the best shield if you refuse to use a shield
The spider shield is probably the best shield for any shield users since it's one of the shields that blocks 100% of the damage, but regardless grass crest is a must for almost every situation simply because of the perma stamina regen
only reason not to use it is if it clashes with your fashion souls or if it's too heavy for your loadout
Asylum torch hollows are the most annoying enemy type in the game
Bonewheels when you have low poise >>>
I stand by what I said
so should i fight the asylum demon again
Are you sure it's the same one?
At some point, yeah
Dodge button
thank you kratta
i hate how i have to see this fat fuck every time i come back
sorry that was mean
I don't exactly remember, but if it was the AOE attack you can probably just run away if you're not too close
mmmm
I think you can try to block it but it's magic damage so most of it is going through the shield
If you time the roll you can definitely roll through it, or you can put enough distance where it doesn't hit you
If you learn the tell
i dont think im strong enough to fight this guy yet
he just one shot me with his big hammer
Nonsense
Yeah probably
You have to believe
It's not an easy fight
i'll try exploring the rest of the asylum at least
with the power of friendship, perseverence, and this +5 Claymore I found, anything is possible
It is doable, it has like 25% more hp than the gaping dragon so it's not like it's completely out of your league, but his moveset is annoying
And it does a ton of damage
You can very easily lock him into doing the same moves everytime and taking the time he takes to recover to attack
After that it's just a matter of doing it over and over for like 3 minutes
i fell down and he immediately attacked what the hell
The little I remember, is that I stayed as close as possible to his butt all the time, since the explosion originates from his staff being behind him means you need to travel less to get out of the explosion radius
do baths exist in Dark Souls
wait are we still talking about Asylum Demon or some other boss associated with it
it's his brother
Stray Demon, you meet if you go back there
ok
Soap exists in Elden Ring
Lots harder to kill, optional boss
is there a better way down where i dont take a shit ton of fall damage
No
The spell that reduces fall damage, ig
There is, || if you use magic ||
Miyazaki your vision sucks /j
Blue dex is illegal
lol
Bro doesn't see the vision
He does wear glasses
I FUCKING DODGED
How can you complain about a man's vision when you yourself can't even see?
the vision in question: poison swamps
im going to bite my nintendo switch
Chompers reference
WHY DO HIS FRIENDS COME DOWN WITH ME
wait why did i respawn with only 6 estus flasks
Don't tilt in this game, the more frustrated you get the more you're going to fuck up at even the most basic things and you'll only get more mad
non-kindled bonfire?
You're using a different bonfire
i ran away from his dumbass magic attack and it still hurt me
please tell me i get something good if i beat this guy
Using discord while having bad signal is a unique kind of psychological torture
You get something good if you beat that guy
is it like really good where it's worth the effort
Idk man it's just a vidjagame
You get something really truly good
Yeah, actually
you'll see
is it a Big Mac
what if it was that would be funny
what if Miyazaki put a McDonald's in the next Dark Souls
and Grimace was the boss
Grimace does seem like he'd be a boss
what would his name be
Grimace
no like his title
i like Lord of Flesh ๐ญ
i cant wait to play Elden Ring and meet the jar people
do they get mad at you if you smash not alive jars
I don't think so. I actually haven't done jar guy's quest
isn't there a whole jar village
his name is Alexander ????
Grimace the Joyous
In his quest he gives you the ||jar helmet||
Kingdom Hearts titles will always make me laugh
It's like the Attack on Titan of RPG titles.
these might be a must-buy even though I have them on console already
I have a strange relationship of love hatred with Kingdom Hearts
KH 1, CoM and 2 are legitimately some of the best games I've ever played, and I think some of the stuff that came after is really cool, but after KH2 I started to kind of hate it
tbf everyone agrees the period between 2 and 3 went on too long
would've been so much tighter as just KH1, CoM, 2, BBS, 3
And that's part of where the hate comes from, the progress from 1 to CoM and 2 was streamlined enough that I loved playing those games, but then the more I got into it the more I found out stuff like... KH Coded, a game for mobile phones from 2008 that has vital story details that will be relevant in the future
well, I also think people tend to exaggerate the importance of some of the side games between 2 and 3
BBS is essential, DDD I want to like but I do think it took a number of things too far but also you can't really skip it... but Coded? 358/2? I'm not sure skipping those would have any greater impact on 3 than "there's a few people I don't recognize in the big crowd of good guys"
i thought about pinging you but didn't
at least personally, if I do buy these and replay "the series" I'm definitely gonna be skipping some of the more tangential stuff this time around
probably... 1, CoM, 2, BBS, DDD, 0.3 because it's so short and I like Aqua, and 3
maybe they could do actual Switch ports soon
Even if some of those games are skippable, in the sense that if you do skip them you can probably piece together any details with the information from later games, it just really bothers me on principle, just the fact that they do it at all bothers me greatly, I'm pretty sure Union X which was a browser online game had vital story details that would come up for KH3 and it's just insane to me
And that's without mentioning how infamous the jump from KH1 to 2 was where a lot of people didn't even know about CoM or thought it was just KH1 but for the GBA so they didn't bother with it
"vital" is still really overstating it
but these collections do include content from X
But even then, asides from that after 2 it just felt like it started becoming way too bloated and convoluted, more than it already was so I couldn't bother and I never did get around to DDD even though I thought some of the gameplay looked good
of course I agree the platform hopping did a lot to kill enthusiasm in the series, that's just a bad move and I'll never understood why so many different game franchises did that
for me DDD is the only specific KH game that really got too convoluted for its own good
why is this franchise so complicated
usually it's the fun kind of convoluted where it sounds batshit insane if you try to summarize it but at any given moment while playing it's totally clear who's trying to smack who with a keyblade for what reasons
I guess CoM is the only one that really does truly have vital story details whereas the rest you can maybe figure it out but for me it's just the fact that any story details that are even somewhat important for later are included in a mobile game, or a web browser game, or a 3ds game that people didn't care enough about to the point that the collections now don't even include the game at all, just the cutscenes because it's the only thing worth seeing from that game
Kingdom Hearts is good right
it's annoying, but the modern collections basically solve the problem, at least for current/new players
broadly speaking yes
if you want a long answer to that question it does get pretty long
what is the lore reason for the Disney characters
They do, but until now you couldn't get the collections on pc so I never could get them, and also it still bothers me just on principle
but they do, and I'm glad they're available on pc now so people can get that without having to get a console
if there's no in universe explanation for the Disney characters and worlds im gonna be pissed
most of the Kingdom Hearts games involve traveling between several different "worlds", and most of the "worlds" correspond to a single Disney movie
at a high level that's really it
More than one yes
the whole reason Donald and Goofy join you in the first game is because they're looking for King Mickey who went missing from their world (and turns out to have been tracking down the big bad)
i thought you were saying there were multiple Sephiroths
Not just Sephiroth, Leon from FF8 is a pretty important character
googles
yeah the KH continuity also has a Final Fantasy world as early as the first game, so you get several characters from that series popping up
Kingdom Hearts is literally just Disney x Final Fantasy so there's a couple FF characters around
is Cloud in it ????
Maybe
Cloud's a boss fight
what !!!!!!
๐๐๐
he's a good guy though
Kingdom Hearts ๐๐
it's a complicated story, there are a number of good guy vs good guy fights
Get that man some more belts
Kingdom Hearts is so good for me because they just say darkness and they don't explain and I nod
lots of zippers and belts
the Sora vs Riku fights in KH1 are still some of the most memorable for me (I'm curious how well they hold up with everything I've played since...)
Its very very good I recommend
I don't think I could personally go back to KH1 after 2
They just make you think and don't explain anything I really like it because I'm not super smart
I never personally played the final mixes so there'd be a few things to make a replay interesting
yeah, the core story of KH has always been dead simple light side v dark side stuff so it's easy to follow even if you lose track of some of the details
And they say darkness and I think ohh bad and community keeps thinking and I just think darkness
Weirdly there is some more morally gray stuff especially in KH2, at least that's how I read the story
see my favorite was when they said not darkness, but twilight and then twilighted all over everyone
It's perfect if you don't want to or can't think very deep
I find the concept of || people without hearts doing something ''evil'' specifically because they want to have hearts like everyone else is interesting ||
or if you do, the details get plenty complicated if you're into that
And there are also Disney princesses
yeah a lot of the drama of KH2 comes from the various characters of dubious alignment figuring out exactly how good or evil they actually are when push comes to shove
there's a reason the final boss is Xemnas, not Axel
It's one of the best games if you don't try to think deep, they're the best
I really wait for KH4 in next 4 years
are they making a Kingdom Hearts 4
I hope they actually start a new plot this time and let the whole Xehanort saga stay concluded
I still remember the insane laser blast show that the Xemnas fight was
back when QTEs were still cool
Yes, it's just pressing the triangle button, but it's so hype

plus after all the drama with Riku in KH1 and CoM it was sooooo satisfying having him join you for those combo moves
what the hell
That was the BEST in the world Nire
why is Sora real now
Cap, why are you going out of your way to confuse yourself
it's a trailer, nobody has answers yet
I think the moment where Sora finally meets back with Riku in that game is one of the most memorable moments I had with a game and one of the few moments in games that made me cry
I will say, I don't enjoy the current artstyle that Final Fantasy and KH games have, but I feel like it's a losing battle to complain about it because arguing against fidelity nowadays is basically impossible
I really really like this now
KH2 and Crisis Core probably have some of my favourite artstyles for these games that I think fits pretty well all around
i was just being silly
but I can see the polygons
Do you recommend Crisis Core to play for someone who played all KH but none FF?
reeee I can't see the characters' pores in their skin
Not really, I wouldn't recommend playing CC on its own let alone before FF7 original
"Nintendo acquired Shiver, who ported games to Switch"
"What did they port"
"MK1"
"My expectation is low"
I try to play FF7 I'm at 20%
The fact that MK1 even exists on the Switch is a miracle, I know that version sucks and looks legitimately terrible but that's because for some reason netherrealm decided to put that game on the switch even though it was a terrible idea from the start
But it's silly on big screen, much better on handheld
And Witcher 3 is on switch too!
one of my favorite lines in a Jacob Geller video is "Use all that processing power, all those shaders and pixels and teraflops to do something other than pores on a sad man's skin."
Yeah I was mostly joking, they ported other games which look decent too
The sad part is, whenever a game that does try to do something else and does not have the same visual fidelity as the latest AAA games comes out, people complain because ''it looks like a ps2 game''
It reminds me of what the director of FF6 said, that a remake of FF6 on the same level as 7 remake would take like 20 years to finish and be twice as expensive, and it just makes me loudly think ''Hey, how about you DON'T do that then?''
idk there are lots of games coming out that aren't the hi fidelity graphics or whatever and ive never seen people complain
But Switch 2 is coming yes?
idk what that has to do with what i said
Dragon's Dogma 2, Infinite Wealth, Suicide Squad, FF7 Rebirth, Tekken 8, Helldivers 2, Rise of the Ronin are some of the bigger latest releases I remember off the top of my head so far from this year so far and they're all pretty high fidelity or straight up realistic when it comes to visuals, I think only Persona 3 Reload which was also a huge release had a different artstyle visually
But what I mean is more that, if a new FF game came out that looked like Crisis Core (obviously better, but with that more stylized artstyle) people would totally still complain, especially for any AAA release, but also companies wouldn't even do it in the first place either
Hades 2 ?
Hades 2's developer isn't AAA
I'm also obviously not saying that all games coming out are like that either
I mentioned Persona 3 Reload (and also SMT5:V technically too which is coming out this year)
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
I'm confused as to where the problem is, weren't you saying 'why is Sora real' earlier? because that's what I'm trying to express here
idk i just dont really understand what you're saying ? like, originally you said that "whenever a game does try to do something different" it gets ridiculed without specifying AAA and so i guess i was just confused
Well, relative to the size and scale of the game yeah, an indie game isn't gonna get too much shit for it but if a game from a developer that's kind of big releases a game that doesn't look like the standard AAA release people do complain, that's why I mentioned the FF6 thing
Hell, Fromsoftware also catches some complaints from people when it comes to this too, I remember people would shit on DS3 for looking outdated and even Elden Ring had people complain too
Souls games have great art direction which is why they look really good, but on the technical side are quite lacking
It is, but on a technical level it's behind other AAA games so there were people that complained about that, of course it doesn't matter because it has such a strong and good art direction and visual style but still
Ultimately it's mostly the "gotcha" for people that were never going to play the game in the first place, so I don't think it matters that much
Even then, I think ER still looks great and I'm perfectly fine with games looking like this forever and don't feel it necessary to go even further in terms of fidelity, the jump from DS3 to E.R is pretty insane
I think it looks.... fine, it's definitely a bit behind but that's fine, especially when mid-gameplay you rarely notice anyways because you're not zooming in on the characters' textures and polygons
definitely looks a lot better when you're not zooming in on the low res textures (though it doesn't help DS3's case that it's also the one Souls games that gets criticized the most for having a boring art direction)
waow
