I even play lethal company on a controller
Though I think that does have controller support, but you need to bring up the keyboard to type sometimes
Huh... It seems, with this guy's FSR mods, I may even be able to mod frame generation into RDR2
The Steam Cloud issues came with even playing online
Ah
Well idk then. I don't use steam cloud.
This feels cursed
Oh ok
I don't think the fsr3 mod is quite working... This just looks super clear. It looks like high settings with tons of ray tracing
Ram is a huge issue I realize... Trying to get this working and I realized that I have 200mb system membory free and 0mb vram free
I think ram is the issue cause I turned ray tracing off and got the same fps
Wait this mod is also available for macos
I can get frame generation on my macbook
Omg yes frame generation is working
I have done it.. I have created a stable 30 fps experience with ray tracing on a handheld
It uses heavy upscaling and frame generation but, it does it. I can play on steam deck settings, using a mix of high medium and low, have ray tracing on, and it is playable.
Now I am only doing ray tracing on reflections, sun shadowsz, and local shadows though. Not everything is ray traced.
Will reach 50 fps but I will use a 30 fps cap.
For some reason there is no 30 fps cap with frame generation. Maybe it just caps the fps before frame generation.
I stand by my point of the rog ally needing 32gb of ram. My biggest performance limitation in cyberpunk is ram. Every now and then I'll go from 40 fps to 5 because I have fuck all ram
This DLSS fram gen to fsr3 frame gen doesn't seem to work the best... Had a few crashes that didn't seem to be for any particular reason.
Cyberpunk is really cool so far. The hacking feels like what watch dogs had.
Bafta Games Awards: Lara Croft voted most iconic character ever https://bbc.in/3vu3tzT
laughs in like, half the Nintendo IPs
People like them polygons what can i say
More iconic then mario apparently
Lolololololol, what complete nonsense.
Mario has her beat by miles, it's not even funny. I would put more money on him, Master Chief, Doomguy, Sonic, Samus Aran, and Link than Lara Croft.
Pikachu is also a "game character"
Yes, f*cking PIKACHU is more iconic than Lara Croft.
And Luigi
And Princess Peach
And Bowser
And Eggman
And like...a million others.
SPYRO AND CRASH BANDICOOT.
lmao no
Samus would like a word with her
they are the true
for claiming that
shit wrong emote
whatever, sends the same vibe

F*ck offfffffffffffff, BBC.
The list is literally a shitfest
Lara 1st, then Mario, then Agent 47 from Hitman, then Sonic
Then Sackboy from Little Big Planet then Pacman
Like what
I'm happy about them acknowledging sackboy, but they shouldn't be that high on a list like that
Fucking Shadowheart from BG3 in top 10, like that character isn't even a year old
"Iconic" my ass
I feel BBC just did this to gain publicity, regardless on if their take is good or bad
BBC? No it is done by BAFTA
And the Most Iconic Video Games Character of all time is... Lara Croft! 👑
The globetrotting badass was voted the winner in our global poll🌎 What's your favourite Lara Croft memory?
View the full Top 20 list 👇
https://www.bafta.org/games/most-iconic-game-character-of-all-time
#BAFTAGamesAwards
They have enough publicity, they are one of the major game awards people care about
so... why make the list then?

Agent 47? The guy who literally has no name and is designed to be so generic that people miss him in a crowd? The guy who's been in, what, 3 games total?
Bullshit he's third place. What is this drunkenness? BAFTA has to send me a bit of what they're smoking, so that I can forget every bit of stupidity emerging from them.
To quote someone from twitter
"This list says Arthur Morgan is more iconic than Pikachu"

RDR2 iirc (haven't played it myself)
How did Pac-Man, the guy who revolutionized gaming as a whole after Pong, not make it at least top 5?
What. Is. This?
people who submitted votes prolly just locked onto other characters first
"the future's now old man" /j
The original bafta twitter post announcing that this award was a thing had a ton of lara croft fans replying to it
Was there a fan vote? Might be because of that
ah yes, Lara stans
Yeah it was posted here an we had a brief convo about iconic video game characters
welp, we're reigniting that convo i guess
But this shouldn't have been a poll, damn it. It's ranking characters by how iconic they are, and by that merit should rank them by how much influence they have in the world and how many contributions they had to gaming as a whole.
Lara Croft had barely any contributions besides being a female lead (which was already preceded by Samus Aran anyway so that removes half the prestige), and Agent 47 had even less than that.
A f*cking poll on Twitter shouldn't decide this. Where is the professionalism?
some of the characters like Arthur Morgan I can see why they'd be decently high, but they're not "iconic" like Mario & Sonic
The full list for those who don't want to even click the result:
1.Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) - 2.Mario (Super Mario) - 3.Agent 47 (Hitman) - 4.Sonic (Sonic) - 5.Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet)
6.Pac-man (Pac-man) - 7.Link (Legend of Zelda) - 8.Master Chief (HALO) - 9.Kratos (God of War) - 10.Shadowheart (Baldur's Gate 3)
11.Arthur Morgan (Read Dead Redemption 2) - 12.Pikachu (Pokemon) - 13.Steve (Minecraft) - 14.Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid) - 15.Crash Bandicoot (Crash Bandicoot)
16.Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII) - 17.Astarion (Baldur's Gate 3) - 18.Kazuma Kiryu (Yakuza) - 19.Ellie Williams (The Last of Us) - 20.Nathan Drake (Uncharted)
2 Baldur's Gate 3 characters
yea, those feel like poll answers alright
Here's the post https://x.com/baftagames/status/1760650653720871342?s=46
Just look at the replies
Where did these people come from
Like, no joke, I bet you that 99% of gamers didn't even know this poll was happening, which means it was rigged from the start.
I know this is a silly hill to die on but damn it it's stealing credit from the people who earned it.
Oh btw do you know how many voted?
and over 4,000 players from around the world engaged with the official BAFTA poll.
Roughly 4k
Don't tell me, a few thousand.
YUP
F*cking 4000. And they call this a global poll.
it'd be funny if they did a recount now that everyone seems to be replying, and for half of the roster from the first poll to not even show up
Honestly, Lara Croft? It should be somewhere around there, sure
Ignore this. Ignore this entire list. It's massively flawed data farmed from bots and run by lazy people.
Most likely british biased because more people from uk knows about it
Yeah that's british too, stephen fry was in it
I'm not bashing the game but Sackboy can barely even count as "iconic"
Professor Layton is British and more iconic than Lara Croft.
Why are 2 buldur's gate 3 characters on there
Like who even are they
They are not iconic at all
As much as I'm stoked for sackboy getting this recognition, being above pacman and link is wild
Also from outsider's view, from who didn't play BG3, Astarion ok I can maybe understand like a tiny bit
I see him a lot
like a lot
Like I said, what is this drunkenness?
also doesn't help that this was posted on a dying/dead website
Who is Shadowheart???
Astarion is like
The only character I can think of from the game, as a non-player
what the fuck is this list
like no one who doesnt play video games knows of ellie or nathan or all the baldurs gate character or sackboy
This image looks so stupid. Weird photoshopped mess. And what is with the pikachu.
That's kinda pushing it lol
Like, I'll freely admit, I'm salty, but I'm also just laughing my ass off right now too even as I type this. This entire list is garbage.
who knew that journalists are kinda out of touch and shit with video games 🤯
Steve. How is STEVE FROM MINECRAFT not in top 5???
Lara Croft is most iconic if you were a horny teenager when the game first came out I guess
He is everywhere!
It was based on an audience poll
Honestly?
Herobrine is iconic
4 polygons 😳 😳 😳
Sans Undertale is really hated by many but he should be considered very iconic
Of 4000 people, most of whom were likely bots
then they are shit and out of touch aswell
Lol yeah
could sign up for IGN or some shit, great opportunity and portfolio for them
Very pointy
once more, this was a poll announced on a dead website
The replies to the post just elude me though
no wonder it's bot filled
ooh okay
Bots. It was shown to Twitter bots.
Fun fact, BAFTA was the only major game awards that didn't choose BOTW as the game of the year
Instead it gave game of the year award to What Remains of Edith Finch
Tf is that?
I haven't heard of that game I admit
But yeah breath of the wild should be one of the top games
What's it about?
What Remains of Edith Finch is a first-person exploration video game developed by Giant Sparrow and published by Annapurna Interactive. The game was released in 2017 for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One; for Nintendo Switch in 2019; for iOS in 2021; and for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022.
The story follows the seventeen-year-old E...
once more, I love that game, but I struggle saying it's GOTY worthy
At least that one is kinda understanable and noteworthy, but still nowhere near GOTY.

I always find it funny when a game is called a 'shoot em up'. It just sounds so odd and old school
what's that game?
It was some big budget scifi thing that got praise and a few players for like a week and then dropped off the face of the Earth.
Wait I thought Rift Apart was 2023
Rift Apart was released June 2021
Huh wow. I mean I guess I was completely out of touch of gaming until this year.
It recieved a delayed port to PC
it seems like BAFTA just looks at 1 game being praised at a singular point in the year, decide right then and there "this is it, this is gonna be GOTY" even if they didn't play the game, and just ran with that idea
ooh that could be why too, I didn't see it until then
Yeah it was ported to PC in 2023
Ah that makes sense then. I tend to completely miss when games release exclusively on a console.
t'was a big name product of the time
but like, without any dlc? Destiny was pretty ass, ngl
Yeaaaah....2014 had DA:Inquisition and Dark Souls 2
And Shadow of Mordor if you want to count that too
I'mma just... not acknowledge BAFTA like, at all now
Don't tell me, BG3 lost?
Pfffft
I'd be extremely shocked if DAVE THE DIVER wins
But then also they chose Vampire Survivors over Stray, GoW Ragnarok, and Elden Ring
Soooo...plausible
Yeah, Vampire Survivors over Elden Ring is......... certainly a choice, lol.
"we're not like other game awards"
Ah yes. Triangle boob lady
Clearly more iconic than super mario
4000 responses, if collected properly, will provide a very accurate view of what people think. This probably wasn’t collected accurately, but it’s also a silly poll about video game characters.
Anyway I’m baffled that no one here seems to think Lara Croft is “iconic,” whatever that means. I don’t know if I would put her as “the most iconic” if for no other reason than I don’t think you can meaningfully rank “iconicity” except in a broad and not that useful sense, but she seems pretty iconic and well-known to me.
Maybe not Mario level but pretty up there.
Arthur actually is a really good character
I'm pretty sure in this channel it's a case of mocking the "most" part of this award. She's absolutely recognizable and iconic but if you have fucking Mario in those pictures and that poll, then that poll is 100% wrong
Amazing protagonist
Thing to remember with that vote was it was done by BAFTA here in the UK. Nintendo didn’t really have a significant foothold here until later in the life of the SNES, and Lara being canonically British and originally from a British studio would skew the results
Also only 4,000 people took the poll which is a pretty small sample size
Honestly, the only game related shows people give a damn about these days are the ones where new games and whatnot are announced. If there's none of that, there's no reason to give a fuck lol
Sonic was way bigger than Mario ever was in the UK though (source: I was a kid in the 90s here). The Master System and Mega Drive were much bigger hits than the SNES and especially the NES were, almost exclusively down to price and really, home computers like the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC and later on the Atari ST and Commodore Amiga were also pretty popular here which meant Nintendo had to fight much harder for market share here
4000 people is an enormous sample size, if you select them properly. If you don’t, you could have 100 000 respondents and it would not work well.
Lmao wtf
Lara Croft first wtf ????
Any random schmuck on the street will probably recognize "mario = video games" but Lara Croft being the most iconic? Lol
My aunt like Lara Croft
Lara Croft is iconic enough that I know the character in spite of never playing the games, but like ... Mario. Sonic. Pikachu. Link. Steve.
can we get a pirate game where we just yarr harr video games online?
Interesting...

I posted this in another server first but... Idk if I like cyberpunk honestly. It seems super edgy for the sake of being edgy, the story is hard to follow and you have a ton of stuff thrown at you straight up to try and understand. Not much understanding of your character's background while other characters keep mentioning it. And the first boss in the game is an absolute bullet sponge. And for the way the game looks... I guess it is good on a technical level, but the style isn't doing anything to captivate me honestly. It is a pretty bland looking city and the visuals are just often dark.
Idk if I should refund it or keep trying to enjoy it
Refund is a fine idea

Does anyone here know the YouTuber A+ Start and the series they make called Son Of A Glitch?
been watching them since like 2015
Right? Their discord occasionally does pings but it's just minor news or minor videos, not really much progress updates
wait his channel is gone?
oh shit i just checked the twitter thats pretty damn sad
basically he fell for a fake sponsorship and his channel got yoinked as far as i understand
Oh damn.
its really sad cuz hes a great guy tbh, just been consistently putting out quality content for many years never was in controversy or had a bad word thrown towards him
Yeah his videos were good

I decided to look into a video that Shesez just posted regarding an update on an apparent SOS video he had made a few months back, and well, I didn't even get far into that video at all before I saw one of the comments down below the video talking about how A+ Start, the guy that makes Son Of A Glitch, got his channel hacked, and now the channel is currently gone, and my guess is he's fighting for it back, and it's like... Man, something's gotta give and YouTube needs to do something here. This is just ridiculous to say the least
(Still left the details about A+ Start in for anyone who doesn't know who they are lol)

I'm so upset about bad ending of a game
Wanna talk about it?
Yes
What game is it?
I have no one to talk about with
No one played it
Witcher 3 and I really really didn't think it will end bad
Oh yeah, there are multiple endings
I spent last hour being sad and googling and I was a step away from not sad ending
But i cant load or do anything
It's just what it is I made bad mistakes
And all the time I thought I did well
But i am stupid and I made a mistake
Ah well
But i didn't know it will be like that
Yeah. The consequences of your actions are not telegraphed well enough. You can't really tell that this specific action is what leads to that specific ending.
And with there being thirty six combinations of endings it's not fun to navigate
I feel so freaking sad it's like I don't want to play two DLCs that people love
Because I messed up the most important thing and I didn't even know
I think the best thing to do about this is to try again
And what, to play more milion hours to play after reading Google?
It's been so long and I messed up
I have time, but I just feel in my heart that I did this
I see
I feel fault and i know it's a game but I don't know
I think I will play once again but after some time
I feel emotions strong and right now I feel it's my fault
I definitely recommend treating the expansions as their own separate stories
the good news is the expansions really are separate and "don't care" what your main game ending was
and most of the difference is in the final cutscene, so just watching them on youtube is about the same experience anyway
I mean, I played Witcher 3 to the end, and I watched the other endings on youtube, and then I played the DLCs
only you can speak to your own state of mind and how that interacts with fictional stories
I think I did well I really did
I'm going to watch now. Thank you very much and I'm sorry
Good luck
Witcher 2 definitely handles the choices and endings better overall
Vashka: talks about this

I hear boss music lol

dang nematodes

Bought this game earlier.
It doesn't look like much but I like it a lot
It's got tons of polish, and it's complex enough to keep me engaged
Yeah I'm thinking of getting a refund so I can buy it on Android
im building a house in Skyrim
Why?
How does it compare to the Breath of the Wild house?
BotW house is only ok
i like it for rp purposes but that's about it ime
TotK house was way better
What's the difference?
What do you do with the rooms?
there's the weapon racks rooms, gallery where you can put up pictures taken on your Purah Pad, kitchen, blessing room with a Goddess Statue, bedroom, and a paddock for horsies
those are the useful ones the others are just stairs and stuff like that
Sorry, just, at this point, seeing Ubisoft on anything nowadays gives me the heebie-jeebies in terms of how the game is gonna turn out. Especially after one of their guys said "Don't get used to owning what you buy" followed by the trainwreck that was Skull And Bones
I see
The only thing right now I really have confidence in them having on their platform that's good is XDefiant lol
It may be a blessing in disguise. You never know
The whole industry has been chaos since the layoff crap has started
Layoffs? I'm out of touch with gaming news. What's happening?
Layoffs have been happening at basically every major company in the industry since some time last year, and have gotten significantly more frequent this year, affecting thousands of people and their livelihoods
Ouch, that's so horrible. I wonder what's causing this all of a sudden aside from the usual corporate greed. A sad time to be working in the industry.
Footage from a canceled #Batman game set in the Nolanverse 🦇
The layoffs are caused by companies overextending during covid times and hiring a lot of people, gambling on a boom they can use to pay off the increased costs
Oh ok, I understand now. Gambling so rarely leads to any good results so you'd think less people would try it. Especially when peoples lives are at risk if your gambling doesn't pay off, like it doesn't 99.99% of the time.
It's not just the gaming industry either. It's just in general. Over hiring lead to this. To an extent, even my own job is affected. I get to keep it, but I've been told they can't be as flexible with my hours as they were in early 2022 when I started, because we're getting back to pre pandemic hours and employee numbers
it's unfortunately a more cynical and long-running trend than just the recent covid bubble, there's a bunch of companies that "intentionally overexpand" as a way of manipulating investor sentiment during hype bubbles
It's strange to see how some companies just boomed during covid and others couldn't keep running because of the lockdowns and financial pressures.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-653Z1val8s goes into more detail about this and to what extent various gaming companies are pursuing this strategy and which ones are actually in trouble

It seems like there's a new round of layoffs in the video games industry every day. We've seen El...
That's true. It is a long term trend, but the recent layoffs are seen as a direct result of covid time overexpansion
yeah, this latest cycle of it has been obvious to everyone, even if the causes are hard to clearly identify from the outside
They boomed during the pandemic because everyone was inside with nothing else better to do for a while. Now that everyone is able to get out again with the virus under control, not to mention not being straight up afraid to go out in general, yeah, there's gonna be financial fall offs
The industry I work in was under a lot of strain during covid. Things seem to be better now covid is 'over'.
isnt this the same guy who got told off by karl jobst for not doing his research well or presenting a concrete argument?
like fair enough if he took the criticism and changed, but id be a bit sceptical about his videos
I'm not familiar with this particular drama, but this channel's videos have consistently had tons of research and extremely concrete arguments
What industry if I may ask?
I'm a bit funny about giving out too personal info, but it's medical so you can only imagine the hoops we had to jump through at the height of covid
Also, yeah, the gaming industry will never crash like it did in 1983. There's a lot of Ls being taken, but there's still a lot of good content still being put out there
That had to be nothing short of hell on Earth in every possible way
modern games also have a far larger and more diverse audience than they did in the 80s
2023 had about 10 or 12k layoffs across the gaming industry. 2024's 4 months in and we're at like 6000+
even if chunks of it might collapse, the whole thing's not gonna go under; it's like how one big movie studio could go bankrupt but we're not gonna stop making movies, too many people are paying to watch them these days
At that point, that would be a valid argument for medical personnel to be paid as much as most pro athletes at the top get paid, because while the pro athletes are risking their bodies, medical staff were risking their lives
Pro athletes don't get paid highly because of the risks
They get paid almost entirely based on hype
It's because of the brands plastered on their uniforms~
What if we all chipped in to get this Discord server's link plastered on the uniform of a random sports team?
Out with the bullshit, in with the quality if you ask me. I can guarantee that's one of the reasons that Toys For Bob went indie. More freedom, they can make their ideas into reality without being controlled and told no, and they aren't crunch timed into oblivion and forced to release half baked garbage to meet a ridiculous deadline
I mean. They were bought so the people with the money can legitimately tell them what to do. It's unfortunate that they were forced into the mines pits Modern Warfare grind until they recently managed to free themselves
well, being able to pay the bills and "quality" are not always the same thing
Rather than stuff they're good at, like Spyro & co
the indie space is certainly a lot healthier for people like us looking to just buy a game and play it for its gameplay, but there are so many competing indies nowadays that even great indies can just die from insufficient exposure or an equally great indie getting more of the hype
just today someone in this server told me they'd never heard of Ender Lilies
We may not all fully understand how the industry works, but at the same time, we do deserve quality out of the stuff we pay for, whether it be AAA or indie. They have to make money to stay around, but we all know how much that's pushed these days
and I've been meaning to play Citizen Sleeper for almost a year now and keep feeling like something else instead
yeah, it's sometimes said that AAA "has" to make unimaginative games because studios can't bet livelihoods of their workers on a game that may not please everyone
(whether this is a good idea is debatable, but it's an opinion that exists)
mm-hmm, that is the downside of going for big budgets and mass appeal, statistically you just have to play it safer in some ways
The hell of it is, they don't end up pleasing everyone anyway. They just usually end up rushing the product out and pissing off everyone lol
(you can vary around which ways you play it safe, e.g. having a famous creative personality on the project can let you get away with the content being more out there)
some recent AAA releases showed that trying to please everyone can mean pleasing no one 🙂
Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection
indeed, another reason indies are "healthier" is they're much more inclined to present themselves accurately, find their target audience, and not dilute themselves trying to please people who fundamentally don't like that kind of game in the first place
which is a lot more feasible today than it was in the 90s when I was first getting into gaming
Ok so, before I watch this I want to guess and see if the video then agrees with me.
My guess is that, with the industry shrinking a bit aftet the pandemic, the snag is that the fiduciary duties of the companies to provide shareholders returns, led them to cut costs instead in order to match the necessary growth.
The easier cost to cut, is non essential employees.
I think we can all agree that the predatory levels of monetization is still a toxic thing about the industry. Especially with games that reset every year
The entire situation is sad and deplorable
I expect to see big shakeup in the entertainment world
actually, the main point of the video is that that's the surface-level analysis which usually misses the deeper issue: that half the time these overextensions and reactionary layoffs are being done on purpose to manipulate investor sentiment (though not always successfully)
most of the runtime is details, evidence, examples, etc
LINE MUST GO UP
When we see games like BG3 and Helldivers 2, and films like Godzilla Minus One, absolutely demolish so called "AAAAAA" trash
What makes BG3 unique?
I still personally care about quality over quantity. It's just a shame that the giants just don't. You'll never be able to please everyone. Even if you do take risks with the game. You can listen to community feedback, something lacking in a lot of publishers, and see what people in the vast majority want
yeah, we've all heard why specifically BG3 is not repeatable, which is broadly true
I haven't
but Larian's prior work in the genre like D:OS is the sort of thing lots of indies can do
oh
I'll let Gen summarize it
The fact that it's a company that could afford to spend 2 years in early access polishing the game, after building a very dedicated community in a nichè genre
I've literally never played it or kept up with it beyond knowing that it was an indie game that was high quality and everyone loved
Huh. Interesting
They also mostly financed it themselves rather than rely on WOTC aaand hasbro nuked the group that worked with Larian to make BG3
Hasbro owns wizards of the coast
Like, the spent years and a lot of time and talent to set themselves as the best in the a non very popular genre.
Then got the D&D license and pulled all the stops and a few miracles translating that nichè genre into the mainstream
That's insane
One reason why I think I can have hope in XDefiant despite Ubisoft being the publisher is, I think for once, they're having patience with these guys, they're letting them work at their own pace, iron out as many bugs and problems as possible, letting them be vocal with the community about what they've been doing, and even letting them listen to community feedback. After all the recent fails from Ubisoft, I've felt like that's the one thing they're doing correctly
Aah. It seems Hasbro was mostly hands-off ish and left it to the WOTC team but then I dunno why (probably shareholder garbage) they got rid of the wotc team after BG3's release, so after the massive success
Ubisoft can do pretty good stuff when they want to, see Prince of Persia or even Trackmania
TIL Hasbro/WOTC were involved(?) With BG3
PK: specifically, Larian Studios released Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 in 2014 and 2017
I mean they had to be right? It's their property
Trackmania's business model is controversial for sure, but at least it eschews MTX and they've done good support for the game in 3+ years
Baldur's Gate 3 is basically the same genre and came out in 2023
it was an indie dev rising up to near-AAA-ness after multiple successes
I did not know this
Here we go. Habsro being a typical tech company and laid off 1100 folk. That particular team was just in the crossfire
Oh
When people kept describing it as DnD I thought they were using it as short hand
Not that it's literally D&D
No it's literally an official D&D setting
Huh. til
ah, nope, BG3 is literally D&D, while D:OS1 & 2 are an original setting
BG1-2 were also literal D&D though those are far older games
Sure, they've had to push back the game multiple times, even having to do it again lately, where I'd expect it to be out potentially by summertime if all goes right when they do their next play test, but honestly, I'd rather wait for something good and have a good time than for it to come out unfinished, be hated, criticized, and then moved on and forgotten about
It uses D&D 5th edition translated into videogame formats
i didnt even know dos was dnd
I think you misread something?
You can literally bring the builds from the paper version and will largely work the same in the game
So they're basically getting rid of a lot of people from the company that made Magic The Gathering among other things. Alright then
Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, also are D&D
but yeah, in the proper context, BG3 was a classic franchise that shaped its genre decades ago being brought back and put in the hands of an indie developer who'd just built up a fanbase making games extremely similar to BG1-2; they knew what they were doing and the hype could not have been higher
even in a highly cynical framing, you might say it was the correct way to do nostalgia-based marketing
Interesting
reading the Adventure Zone graphic novels is strange because they had to change a lot of names because they're Hasbro copyrighted
to be clear, I've never played any of the BGs or D:OSs or anything else in this genre
Well time to get off work. I hope tonight is better
WotC seems to be taking interest in the old art in shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly for a while now
I would highly recommend DOS2 if you enjoyed BG3. You can see where a lot of the DNA came from
I'm aware of it because a) people wouldn't shut up about BG3 when it was new
, and b) BG is a huge enough piece of gaming history that it bumps into several things I do care about, such as c) me being a huge fan of the old Planescape: Torment and the far newer Disco Elysium
also d) I watch a lot of video essays about games I can't enjoy playing myself
Also in the server I would say @green fulcrum is the one to ask about CRPGs
Them laying off the team that made possible one of their best successes in years, maybe ever, doesn't even surprise me at this point
It's almost guaranteed to be bean counters just checking employees in an excel file, seeing who is paid a lot, and getting rid of them because they're the most expensive
I dunno, I've been playing a lot of No Man's Sky lately and there was just a big update last week. Game's pretty solid now.
That's seemingly what has happened at Bioware
"bean counters" ok Cave Johnson
one of the weirdest things about being into gaming for multiple decades is seeing companies like EA, Ubisoft and Bioware go from genuine innovators whose mere name on a game was reason to be hyped about it (not unlike many of today's indie companies), to... whatever they are today

I'm not sure how to feel about it, but mostly my attachment to specific game dev/publisher names has just shifted to other names
To be fair, the last 2 things they put out seems to be pretty good
Bioware?
No Ubisoft
oh right the new PoP
I was talking about XDefiant lol
And the Avatar game is reportedly very good
really sucks I can't play that
I will eventually get to the new POP
oh right, I was aware of Avatar but mostly ignore open world AAAs anyway
yeah, I'm sure I will eventually, just not sure what form it'll be in since I want to avoid the always-on nonsense
The most recent releases
Ok not Skull and Bones
oh right, "last 2 were good" has to ignore Skull and Bones lol
I forgot about that
To be fair tho, one thing you can't take away from Ubisoft
The are ride or die with their games
You fucking bet they'll be supporting Skull and Bones for a long time, even if it seems like it's pretty trash
All their sport franchises none ever asked are supported for a worringly long time.
Rainbow Six Siege, For Honor released like 7 years ago and is still going, with new content
And that's a soild 7/10 at best
They just don't stop
I wonder if that's related to their apparent inertia in game design
BG&E 2 is still not cancelled
Assassin's Creed started getting almost like COD or the various sports games. Just release after release every year with no time for change, polish, or innovation

Something tells me it's too good to be true though
last night I managed to actually finish an operation in helldivers without the game crashing constantly, I love that by the end of it all me and my entire party just looked like this
@river veldt look what i did to this poor spike buzzy
as i was falling, i used yoshi's tongue, hit the second buzzy, but before yoshi could eat him, i got hit by the first one so now the second one is just stuck going in a circle
thx
Is there still time for this? I could do it for my 3ds and wii u. Though I just don't know why they want to archieve it yet.
Ok cool. I'm just confused on why it is so important to get it, other then before the date of course
Perhaps
Just feels like it is trying to backup personal streetpass data is all
I suppose there is also that old community thing on those consoles but I never used that
Miiverse or something
'Stop Killing Games' campaign demands end to live service shutdowns: 'It is an assault on both consumer rights and preservation of media' https://trib.al/1U5qopT
"end to live service shutdown" honestly sounds more like "end to live service"
Never gonna happen unless laws are passed. Generally too profitable if they're done well - (cough not suicide squad cough)
Recently the crew got completely unlisted from steam. You can't play it anymore. Idk if it would even work pirated because it required an active connection to servers. So the game is just gone now.
And it isn't even a multiplayer experience for the most part
The game can be completely singeplayer
I think it is a big part of what is sparking this
A few pundits have brought up KO City as an example of how to do it. The devs went out of their way to make a private server version of the game available. It still doesn't really see a lot of play but the fact they did that is awesome
Yeah. Just to keep older games at least playable offline is good.
Or require self hosting. Like if TF2s servers went down we still have community servers
As much as I want this, It’ll go nowhere in the U.S.
Also it is ridiculous how I had to agree towards an EULA to play a single player game on PS5. When purchasing a physical disc, you already agree towards a license agreement even though a disc is a physical good.
Its just such a bunch of lawyer and abuse of power over consumer rights.
I understand ‘Games as a Service’ restrictions and complexity of hosting, but it does not excuse the prevention of releasing dedicated server software upon ‘closure’.
And I say this knowing that some games do have some really cursed server hosting methods.
i like how this screenshot turned out

oh nice.
Do you have the sin DLC?

Most publishers want the old games shut down and don't want them preserved so they can move to the next ones. There's a grocery list in terms of names for that one

ICYMI: Duckside is a persistent-world survival game with crafting, base-building, PvP, PvE, and, since you're a duck, it has flying too. 🦆
none of these are genres I'm into, but: this feels like a game I've seen several times before except now you're a duck? what's the point?
I mean if the Crab Dark Souls can work, so does Duck Survival
unitled duck game
Because hjönk.
I guess after Palworld I feel like we've done the silly version of this already
Because why the hell not
When we have https://store.steampowered.com/app/2067050/Squirrel_with_a_Gun/ , why not a duck survival game?
Plus, ducks are just inherently funny, especially with the stereotype of them being absolute dicks.
Isn't that geese?
There's already a game titled duck game
"Apology Slime", lmao
also new 2hu mod dropped, Sumi isn't one of my favourites but
cool mechanics of throwing shit at people

Nothing will happen, of course.

i always forget how short Portal 1 is lmao
it was a free game in the orange box
yeah
remember when TF2 was paid??
yeah
at least valve made sure to compensate those who actually payed for TF2 when it updated into being a free game

They’re worth nothing.

The "Breadcrab" was added back in August 2020, according to the wiki.
That's because they didn't do it, it's a community created item like so many and almost all of them have been since 2018 ish

Hi
On April 8 2024 (ie today - as of the making of this episode) , all Nintendo Network online services for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be shut down, but it does not mean you don't need to stop playing online games. This is all thanks to Pretendo - the community developed Nintendo Network online replacement which is free and open sour...
Nevermind we can still play online on the 3ds and wii u
I actually kinda wish my 3ds wasn't half broken and I had the charger
You lost it ?
dew it
I reeeeeally hope this doesn't get a C&D from Nintendo.
GAME staff told to expect redundancies, as most workers move to zero hours contracts https://www.eurogamer.net/game-staff-told-to-expect-redundancies-as-most-workers-move-to-zero-hours-contracts
zero hour contracts should be illegal
especially transferring employees to them like this
but game has been struggling for a while
mostly because they're very overpriced
That and physical games are dying.
which sucks

Good thing there's still retro game stores starting to rise up more for this very reason. They should at least keep it to where you can buy physical media on Amazon or something
Anyone who wants to play with me Team fortress 2 ?
And if you ever wondered why so many try to make a live service game...
100% of my playtime is in the others category.
That's just depressing, man
Unless these numbers only include the AAA industry
This is why I say the consumers are part of the problem sometimes
You win the jackpot if your live service is a hit, but it seems like 9 out of 10 fail
While on this topic https://www.gameshub.com/news/news/six-year-old-video-games-study-playtime-2024-2638826/
Yeah. That tends to happen when “trend games” happen
The second pic is from the market research firm mentioned in your article
just like the MMO trend form ages ago
and the looter shooter
and battle royale
back in my day, the trend everyone had gotten sick of was WW2 shooters
I wonder what the next trend will be…
A few more of the pages from that report
we are the 8%
You always had to dig for the good wins
Not that my standards are spectacular since I love gatchas but
Fucking hog leg tho
Arknights is genuinely good gameplay god dammit
I was just never interested in the first place, I don't get to claim moral superiority for going "meh" at a whole genre before knowing it even had problems lol
The fact that I find girls in full tactical very sexy is secondary
there's a few bits I wish were better but overall yeah it's quite good
i keep thinkign that Arknignts is like, a Batman thing
it does sound like a portmantaeu of Arkham Knight doesn't it
don't worry, so is DC
I just bought Noita on steam cuz it was on sale. Ive been wanting it for a while now
I want Unicorn Overlord something fierce
But alas, money
I guess I can finish out 13 sentinels first
yes, both Portal 1 and 2. These are very good ports too, even if unambitious (no extra content)
I'm sure it was easy to port and they would be good, I just didn't know Valve did anything with consoles at all beyond 2010
Valve did CS:GO for consoles in 2012 😛
I didn't even realize CS:GO was on consoles
I just know TF2, half life 2, and portal were on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Basically I thought the orange box was the last thing they did
wtf is this???
God, far as i can tell
i just walked to the edge of the map without going underground and the scaled a really high wall and found that😭
oops i drank swamp water

It's called slice and dice
It's an amazing game that is also available on the phone
Noita is fun
Weaver has an ability that doubles my mana. Wizard has an ability that lets me do it again. Jester gives me rerolls to help me get exactly the side of the die I want. Wizard gives me more mana as I reroll. Ace and wizard both allow me to make jester give more rerolls.
Artificer and jester both have abilities with the charged keyword, giving me one free point of damage for every point of mana I have
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1775490/Slice__Dice/ steam page if you're curious
these encounters in FFII are super annoying
I can literally only deal 1 damage to these guys with my physical attacker
If physical violence will not work, resort to cognitive warfare.
Insult them and/or their mothers and/or their fathers until they cry hard enough to render themselves effectively incapacitated. Works every time.
when a RPG offers a choice between melee, archery and magic, the right answer is always archery
(ok, almost always)
I'm playing Dungeon Siege and have mained archery on all my characters, except 2 which act purely as healers
with archery, you can cheese fights by retreating then firing a few arrows. Spells can do that too, but it's less reliable (slow projectiles, so monsters can dodge them)
Did you accidentally wander into an area that's too hard for you?
||MAGIC MISSILE||
FF2 has a lot of those
No it was because of Cecil's equipment due to him being a Dark Knight. It was ineffective due to that area's specific plot-related challenges
Oh you're playing 4
Ah fuck, I thought I specified
But yeah, 4, specifically the North American SNES release known as FFII
Yeah that one is a lot of fun
Of course
Great, I'm a sucker for twin dynamics
You should get as attached to every character as possible
I'm enjoying it, but it's a bit hard to get fully attached because I feel the script is a bit weak due to it being an early SNES game
But I'm still picking up what they're putting down
I like the Free Enterprise randomizer
Turns the game into a highly customizable open world experience
Cool, I just got it installed on my phone. I was hoping it had a paid version with no ads.
Yes, it's what it has iirc
The paid version with no ads is a microtransaction.
The free version is the demo
If you buy it on itch.io you get both android and PC versions at twice the cost and no DRM
I do think that you have to sideload it that way
So updates are annoying to get
Might be wrong tho
Yeah you install it as an APK
On the plus side you get to just copy the game and your save to any device you want
huh
apparently back in 2019 there was a hatsune miku rocket league collab in the china version of the game
why tf didnt all the other versions of the game get it too lol
#Portal2 - the gigantic vault door opening up to reveal a normal door behind it is such a good gag
Rumor has it that the development team was constantly and incessantly giggling for the entire length of time it took to implement that joke.
noita has the most awesome map ive ever seen in a game. really gives me the feeling i had as a child where id try to get out of bounds of maps, expecting more things to be there. But in noita there actually IS more things out of bounds
Anyone who wants to plays Team fortress 2 with me ?
Idk what to think about Gwimbly s re design, like it's not bad, but the original had more character, much better than Gwimbly boom design tho

Eh. At this point that’s basically standard
By the end of the decade will probably not even have physical releases outside collectors items
That’s disappointing.
Was simply two blu-ray discs too much?

But then again this is the same company that shut down The Crew, so I should expect this to be norm.
After lots of people asked them for an offline patch they didn’t listen
They don’t need to.
You’ve agreed the terms.
When you buy a game, you don’t own it. Its a license.
Don't give a company money to pay for a luxury if you aren't fine with the transaction.
Or better yet, let people actually own the shit that they buy like in the 2000s for example. This is why physical media is still being bought
Yeah, sadly I'll be skipping this one. I don't trust Ubisoft at all.
The only thing I trust them with at the moment is XDefiant, and that's because that game is actually being given time to be baked to perfection so to speak
A lot of smaller companies sell good games that you buy and keep forever
There's hardly a shortage of those
If you want to own what you buy, buy from people who let you
Instead of buying from people who don't and then complaining about it
no pc release?
Take this power. Be brave in dark places. Be the light of hope.
The Final Shape // June 4, 2024
What about not buying and instead actually owning what you have
(this technique is called based pirate mindset, especially applicable to shit devs or large corpos)
im sorry, $80 ?????
Its on pc. Too just on uplay
Essentially you have to buy all the other kong vs Godzilla bundles to get it
So ixrec isnt far off
Anything with Destiny 2 updates that have the word "Final" in the name will never be truly the final update lol
cant wait for you to try portal 3!
oh wait
oh you gotta do the co-op testing initiative next
don't know what to THINK no more man
🥲
they really need to do a portal 3 at some point
bring Chell back
one of my all time favorite video game characters ever
They don't really need to do anything, that's kind of the point
Valve is in a unique position as a company where they can absolutely afford to not do absolutely anything as a company other than keep supporting Steam
I wish they made a new game because Valve has always had developers who were passionate about pushing gaming forward and experimenting with new stuff, but I guess we've reached a point where maybe there's not a whole lot of revolutionary things to explore anymore, but I'm glad they don't feel pressured to work on HL3 or Portal 3 just because people want one because I'd hate for them to make a game they feel forced to work on rather than something they actually want to do
Even though I hate the fact that it's VR exclusive since they were working on VR tech at the time they felt like doing Alyx and that's still considered the best VR experience so they did something right there
at this point they really only make games to help push a new product, like alyx for VR and source 2
I don't know if I'd call CS2 a new game entirely but I guess it technically is
they made that Portal game for Steam Deck
It's not a game but it still counts
it was prety funny
It's a sort of Aperture themed '''tutorial''' for the Deck
more experience and tutorial than game, yeah
lol i remember when they tried pushing that gmod "Sequel" S&box, but didnt want people putting third party maps/items into the game
the thing that literally made gmod well liked and famous to begin with
strange
gmod isnt owned by steam
i forgot about S&box
weird
Garry's Mod was also not made by Valve either
could have sworn valve acquired them a while ago
wow i forgot Facepunch made Rust
If there ever was a literal name game this one is it, it's literally a mod made by Garry
I don't even know if Source 2 Filmmaker was made by Valve either, I think it wasn't
The whole Source 2 thing gave me hope Valve would maybe work on Source 2 versions of L4D and TF2 but with the little I know about CS2 still missing content from CSGO I'm guessing that would be way too much work for probably little return, but TF2 would benefit greatly from something like that as a way to actually fix the decades old spaghetti code that prevented so many people before from even wanting to touch TF2 and add new stuff
If they ever do do that, I hope they keep the coconut jpeg in the code just for fun
I love the coconut jpeg
in other news Joel is back with a vengeance

like majority of people ive played against in the new ranked season taht were in diamond were 100% boosted cuz they are like maybe low plat in skill at best
its just kinda pathetic trying to seem higher rank when you cant even get back to it yourself

You should make friends first then play with them after they're friends
Alternatively, try recruiting people for a specific game. Consider that people won't know who you are
How ?
I think something is up with the armoury crate app. It is maxing out these cores and making this thing stay at around 75C
Not nice having fans blaring while idle, even if I am in turbo mode
Well turning off cpu boost solved the temp issue. But still a bunch of cpu usage.
I guess cpu boost basically is just like overclocking as much as the temps allow
best game ever
yesh
Hah cool
People should start doing this more if sony and others starting accepting refunds for games shutdown. Heh.
I somewhat hope it gets charged back to Ubisoft
Holy shit hahaha
Sony W...? Lol
That wage slave is gonna get fired
Worth
Rip
Jeff Grubb says Dead Space 2 Remake cancelled due to low sales (1 million), team is working on Iron Man and BF now
NOOOOO 😔😔😔
One million is low sales...? Fuck outta here with that, that ain't low
Is that a million dollars or a million copies sold though?
Copies sold
Oh I didn’t see it above
EA Play is getting a price increase, with annual subscriptions up from £19.99 to £35.99 https://www.eurogamer.net/ea-play-getting-price-increase-with-annual-subs-up-from-1999-to-3599
Wow price gouging I can't belive it
Ea turning something of some value, into way worse value? no, never! /s
i renew my game pass ultimate every month but thats about it in terms of subscriptions lol
i dont use any streaming services at all
fair enough
dont have a phone plan either
i guess technically i do have ps plus as well
and the switch online membership
so only 3 subs
I absolutely refuse lol
the ps plus and switch one are yearly
Our next project is... Slay the Spire 2!

More info coming later this year, stay tuned... 🐋
I'd rather play singleplayer only forever then pay for one extra special girl™️ pass
StS2, 2025
could stick to only free to play games that dont require the online membership lol
well yeah with xbox and ps thats pretty much how it is
you can only play with other people online if you pay for their memberships
only with free to play games do you not need their sub
thats how its always been
even in the 360 days you had to pay for gold
just to play with other people on games
Online gaming existed before that, and still does
that's entirely them being a-holes about it lol
thats how its always been on xbox
And its always sucked!

I shouldn't have to pay for my internet twice just to play halo
eh
you're not paying for your internet
you're paying to use **their **online services/servers
paying for gold on 360 was never an issue at all
remember when ps3 online was completely free but then sony saw how much free money microsoft was getting, and made ps4 online paid
i member
Yeah
That was basically what made me quit console gaming!
Could just play PC and not have to do that
I was a dedicated console gamer before that nonsense
not really nonsense
GReed?
its not really them being greedy tho
servers/etc cost money to keep running
what do you expect
the servers to just stay online for free
So they cancel the Dead Space 2 remake because of a bullshit reason, and they basically more than double their subscription price. Typical, but still, nice going, morons
sony doesn't host servers for games they don't make lol
this convo was moreso referring to the 360 days
Hell, even the "neccesary"evil of things like microtransactions and battlepasses annoy me less then a blanket "Wanna play multiplayer? pay me"
also you paid for the game yes
not the servers
back then, games didnt use their own servers
it was entirely dependent on microsoft
also microtransactions arent even all evil
They do not force me to buy them, that much is true
if theyre fully optional cosmetics that are in a Free game that give no advantage at all, and arent required to progress, then its fine
and as long as they are not lootboxes or in a paid game
those are good microtransactions
what
EA terrible.
