I feel obligated to say this if you plan on playing Symphony, one of the Castlevania games I played was Dracula x Chronicles which is a remake of Rondo of Blood, but in it there's also a new version of Symphony of the Night with completely new translations and voice acting, some people prefer the original but that was the one I was going to play myself because of the new translation and what with it being a relatively more modern port, just so you know

I know it's sarcastic, but just for a fun fact, the term "turtling" in its modern gaming sense actually originated (or at the very least became popularized) with Starcraft: Brood War, after Terran players would hunker down in their base and endlessly play on the defensive until their opponent ran out of resources trying to destroy them (like a turtle hiding in their shell). Terran players were unique because they were the only faction that could really do this effectively, since they had bunkers, supply stations, turrets, siege tanks, and other such defensive structures that could act as a massive defense wall for both land and air. The Protoss were more suited for heavy-duty offensive strategies with only very basic base defenses and having the most expensive units, while the Zerg had the Zerg Rush strategy since they had much cheaper units than either of the other factions but next to no base defense and armor. The Terrans, meanwhile, were kings of defensive strategies while still maintaining a decent offensive ability, making them the most popular faction to play as (plus they had the coolest music ).

If someone was too intent on turtling, the loss of initiative would cost them.

Yeah, the Zerg may have had some good responses, but one effective thing about turtling is that you will have tons of resources to maintain the wall, while your opponents will use up theirs to try to kill you. If you have some good choke points and high ground, you can win the game without even moving from your base at all.

And the Protoss didn't really have an effective way of dealing with it. Granted, they had tankier units and could deal more damage, but had precious few units that could actually lay siege to a wall of that size. They had the Reavers and Carriers perhaps, but those were expensive and slow as f*ck. As for any invisible units, the Terrans had ways of detecting them, so they wouldn't be able to escape.

Most modern turn-based C/JRPGs these days give a visual indicator regarding the turn order. It is a GOD-SEND for strategy.

Mhm, the Ruined King RPG specifically benefits from this I think because for most attacks, and this is the main 'gimmick', you're given the option to do a regular, light, or strong version of a special ability, so by being able to see the upcoming turns you get a better idea of whether or not you wanna go for a quicker but weaker attack or if you can afford to go strong but slow

One of the reasons I wish Square remastered FF7 is I wish I could play og FF7 with all the benefits of modern rpg design, I think a good example is how awkward it feels to me scanning an enemy for details on og FF7 vs pretty much any RPG after 2006 where you just have the enemy info screen available during the fight

in 7 while scanning for weaknesses or info on their hp or what not the fight is still going and the info is just pop up text boxes so if you miss it I guess you're gonna have to just scan the enemy again and sometimes you can't afford to waste any turns so it's a bit awkward

FF8 fixes that problem by having scan take you to a full ass window where you can rotate a 3D model of the enemy, see its stats and description

now that I've seen video essays on the entire FF series it's fascinating how much the core systems and emphasis was changing every couple installments throughout the series' history, yet everyone who's played only a couple FFs ends up with them being the formative idea of what an RPG is and then felt weird when FF changed again

(of course I'm on the other extreme of this where I'm more interested in some of the most recent FFs now that they've gone fully real-time)

not super wrong, I can't remember where I came across this but I remember multiple times seeing people in SMT circles mention how it's kind of intentional to make megaten protagonists sort of androgynous or young pretty boys, most of the mainline SMT protags are especially SMTV's protag where for a long time people didn't know if it was a girl
I think it had to do with the original SMT protagonist being androgynous and all other protagonists taking from that, but I can't remember, I'm unfortunately not well versed on megaten
But also it obviously has to do with Japan's different culture and their beauty standards, I think it makes for a fun comparison with character design from pretty much any other culture

I think by far the funniest example I ever came across was Nier Replicant's protagonist where in the original release they completely changed his entire appearance for the western release and the name of the game

Does anyone know a mod to increase the number of slots per spell set ? Cuz having 4 spells per set is good and all for console players, but I paid for the whole keyboard of my PC and I'd like to use it, especially since there aren't enough spell slots in total for all the spells in the game...
I've seen a youtuber use a mod like this, but can't find it on internet
Like, every result I get in google search (or even on Nexus Mods) is how to unlock more spell sets, but I'd like more slots per set...

It's definitely a game of patience and experimentation

Don't be afraid to use the house rules as the game recommends

Setting enemy damage to 70% and enemy health to 90% is a much more comfortable experience

The game is designed and balanced with house rules in mind. There's even a difficulty score the game gives out for each combination of house rules

As long as you're over 5800 it should be fine

Other than house rules, getting a lot of money, befriending everyone and doing all the scars helps a ton

Getting lots of money is a function of running for chests, having the repurposed mining shaft and massive gold vault upgrades

You want to maximize money for time spent, so there's no sense in wasting time with normal enemies or breakables

Enemy level is also a good indicator for what level you should be. I like to be 100 above

Honestly, I can somewhat believe that. Seeing windows x86 games running on Mac using the translation layer, it can have very good results. Just depends on performance and how things like Vulkan and DirectX can be made to work on it. I can imagine they would need some special drivers to have the games run well, not just some generic stuff for a display adapter. Some games will refuse to run, Doom Eternal looks specifically for an AMD or Nvidia GPU and won't run if it doesn't see one. I've seen other games that have issues even opening on intel graphics, and I bet all of those games wouldn't work on it.

And I doubt Qualcomm are going to be a brand that will be pushing graphics drivers for games
