I guess we'll see where it's at in the few months, really
I rememeber temtems getting a lot of very positive buzz too, and it released far closer to dexit.
I just love how confused all the reviews are
This game clearly has no right being any good in the slightest, and yet it is

Tf
Btw this is Yakuza game, not like a dragon. I mean, heh
Apparently its already got 1 million in sales
Temtem got 500k in a month or so I think

Oh man
It looks like they ripped off a lot of Pokémon models
People told me that there are hundreds of original designs and not everyone was a blatant copy of a Pokémon.
Guess what? I've seen the rest and with no surprise, 90% of them are definitely a copy of existing Pokémon, with some of them literally having parts of their models.
Damn.
And by 'ripped off' I mean used the models
what's with hyped games having ripped off assets? I remember Flappy Bird being taken down for similar reasons
while not a game, even Harlem Shake suffered a similar fate
I kind of get the impression the whole of the game is built on preexisting assets
or assets with modifications
Lol
There's Legally Distinct Lucario in it and I want him

You can put an npc in a ball and then flay it alive.....yeah I'd say so
Oof, these two aren't even subtle about it:
bipedal leafeon is so unbelievably cursed
I mean, the devs did recently say "this isn't a scam". This sounds like a kinda scammy thing to do
Eh. I mean, if it is a ripoff, they're ripping off Pokémon so it's hard to care
They deserve to be ripped off if you ask me
It's kinda sad how lazy it is
Like smh at least make a bunch of totally original pals to go along with your favorite pokemans
It's scammy because if it's such a blatant copy, that leaves them open to being sued by Nintendo, which could at worst result in the closure of the game itself
If Temtem was safe, this is also probably safe
Nintendo doesn't in fact own the rights to all monsters ever

Nope nope nope.
haha this looks awesome
Apparently he took inspiration from doom 3 for it
and it's a David Szymanski game too, which means it'll be good
Doesn't seem like it to me, they are very similar tho
I must assume that given what they are doing, they must have consulted legal before going forward with it, and given how long ago the game was presented, if there was space for a C&D Nintendo would have pounced sooner
Oh yeah he made iron lung didnt he
yeah, I was suspicious when that claim got made, but I also couldn't care less about this game so I'm not about to go factcheck it
I mean it definitely looks fun
I’ll probably try it out worst case if im not qmused ill just refund
I assume it is for people who like these genres
It's basically Ark
Unironically the game has more in common with Ark Survival Evolved than with any of the Pokemon games
I have no interest in ark and no interest in Pokemon. I don't think this is the game for me
yep
I'm hit or miss on survivals, I might give it a look but I'm not in a rush
(I already tried a Pokemon-adjacent game to make sure Pokemon's not my thing and it extremely is not)
i dont even really think it's as funny as people are saying
I have to be honest, lobbing a pokeball at a human and having it work, is actually pretty fucking funny

Oblivion is very funny
I hear Daggerfall actually has some pretty in depth systems
it's an interesting case study in procedural generation if nothing else
Daggerfall got a unity remake
Fun fact, in this game gold has weight, so you have to put it in a bank.
And the banks have interest.
And you can use bank notes for large purchases.
And you can get loans you have to pay off.
...wow this game is in-depth in the weirdest places.
although if Daggerfall came out today, with modern graphics but identical systems, I expect it'd get pretty oof reception, like the bad things people say about Skyrim but way more intense
Skyrim was definitely a more casual form of oblivion
Which was a more casual form of morrowind
Personally i think the combat is probably weakest part of it
I want to say that's probably a thing that happens with most games but I can see how maybe elder scrolls falls on the list of games that do it the hardest
and I guess it worked out because Skyrim became way bigger than Oblivion and Morrowind
which thing?
The ''new game is just a more casual form of old game''
oh that
Or designed to appeal to more casual players
it's... well, there's a bit of truth in there, but just that and nothing else is at best a very reductive take
a lot of the modern features in these games are objective improvements for players of all skill and experience levels
It's not that simple but it's a good way to summarize the idea, it's more of a spectrum of course
I think that there are two axis that aren't completely disconnected but aren't necessarily the same either
One is accessibility, and the other is depth.
You want to raise accessibility while keeping depth as much as possible, which I feel bethesda just is very bad at.
They can raise accessibility just fine but it's always to a staggering expense of depth in their games
ok, to be fair, I'm mostly objecting to the use of "just more casual" with no other qualifiers that very heavily implies the "if you like the new games more that's because you suck and are what's wrong with the industry" toxic subtext that's all over the internet
but yes the trend of these particular games are probably one of the reasons so many people started to see "accessibility" as a dirty word during that era of gaming
Daggerfall is a game that exists
I do think that sometimes, to get more accessibility you have to give up some depth, so it's not that they are completely unrelated.
Like, you can't make Path of Exile more accessible without sacrificing some depth
mm-hmm, sometimes they're fundamentally opposed, but there's also a lot of things where that doesn't apply
But yeah there are also a lot of ways to rise accessibility without sacrificing much depth
Good tutorialisation, introducing mechanics one at a time, good UI, etc...
Are all ways to keep depth while making the game more accessible
especially with the modern indie boom, a lot of these niche subgenres have gotten way more accessible than they used to be, even if that "accessibility" is mostly drawing in other veteran gamers who hadn't tried that subgenre before rather than just random people who only ever play CoD or FIFA
Yus, already saw this
Oh gosh
Steam is struggling rn
The friend chat keeps crashing or not loading for me
granted I don't personally play the genres people usually cite as "cannot be accessible" examples
between NES era and today maybe the biggest impact "accessibility" changes have had on me personally is that games have effing save points now, so they're actually fun to play
Yep it's been a big change with Elden Ring as well
lol
It's true, the vast majority of bosses have save points right ouside their arenas.
With a few exceptions
I definitely need to pay more attention to the tutorialization on games I play because it's something that I can't quite seem to think of any good examples right now
I'm not really good at the tutorialization that gives you boxes of text explaining how stuff works even though sometimes that's probably the best way to go about it, I will read it and then promptly forget about it or not even process it so I end up just learning through trial and error or whenever the game tutorializes you by making you do stuff, I think Blasphemous goes about it in the same way as Souls where the tutorialization is as minimal as possible
Blasphemous still has some of that Souls vagueness in some areas but I think it'd be far more frustrating to do a first blind playthrough of DS1 than Blasphemous
the modern trend is to avoid "make the player read a wall of text" as much as possible, these days I only ever see it in games where there really is no other option
(though half the time that's because the game itself is overly complicated and gave itself no other option)
in the old days action games would expect you to read a page or two that explained what all the buttons do, and normal people just forget half of them immediately since it turns out that's not how people learn games, so now you see those genres do the whole in-game button prompt thing instead
well... there's a reason why these two are literally one of my best and one of my worst experiences with any video game ever
Blasphemous is a lot more vague than Souls I felt.
Or at least in the same ballpark
you mean the lore, right?
That saddens me because DS1 is my favourite and I still think it's the best DS game, but a lot of its unjustifiable dated game design even by the standards of the time is frustrating because I know all of DS1's systems as someone who has 100s of hours into it and has collected information from the community over years but someone new would probably think it's the worst game ever made and that sucks, as much as I appreciate Fromsoft's approach to game design in certain aspects they're pretty dated and just refuse to budge
No I mean the mechanics, may be because I'm less used to the genre but for example, the items you have to equip to get past the metroidvania nonsense are super vague until you actually go and test them
if you mean the relics, the item descriptions were perfectly clear for me
Also I never did the secret bosses, but that stuff sounds impossible to unlock without a guide to me.
the only thing I had to look up for base game was one of the puzzles to get a relic, since it involved visiting parts of the map in a specific order and of course I did it in a different order (thankfully B2 has a lot less of that)
oh, I got the first item for the DLC secret stuff completely by accident in the original run, and as a result never fought one of the vanilla bosses
I think I did need to look up where that one ghost in the library was supposed to be, but only that
For whatever reason I did click a lot more with Ender Lilies, I felt a lot more lost in Blasphemous basically at all times
fair, Ender Lilies is very hard to get confused by, there the challenge is all in the combat
well maybe EL's true ending
Still a good game and I don't mind mechanics being vague to be clear.
there's an art to good vagueness
That's why I say Blasphemous has this to a lesser degree, imagine that approach but to everything and every mechanic in the game
Blasphemous for example lets you know pretty clearly some things like ''hey if you equip this you can't take it off'' or ''hey this is the end game, anything you wanna do and get done go do it now'', in DS1 you don't get that luxury, for example both games have an item that you can't take off,in Blasphemous you straight up can't unequip it at all, in DS1 if you do it breaks, and if you accidentally unequip it because of a mistake while menuing? Tough luck. It also won't do any attempt at letting you know ''hey this is the endgame'', and doesn't even make it clear that at the end of the game you have a decision to make to the point where people would play the game and then find out years down the line that there was another ending because they never even registered that there was a choice to be made
And that's without going into stuff like how useless it is to try and glean any information about your stats from the game itself, there's an entire stat that is useless but the game never tells you that
I like how when most people criticize DS1 they point at stuff dozens of hours beyond anything I got to
Both games have that vague hands off approach to everything pretty much but Blasphemous makes it so that a first blind player would have an easier time than DS1 by far
for example both games have an item that you can't take off,in Blasphemous you straight up can't unequip it at all, in DS1 if you do it breaks, and if you accidentally unequip it because of a mistake while menuing? Tough luck.
It's the be a worse problem with Blasphemous tho right? If you equip it by accident you can't take it off means that slots is now forever occupied
In DS you can remove it if you are ready to lose it.
Actually it's a different problem, I don't think either is better or worse
You can't equip it by accident because you have to confirm you want to equip it, in DS1 you don't get any confirmation either way
Yeah fair, their could be a confirmation button
in Blasphemous it also helps that it's a very good item stat-wise so there's little reason to want to remove it
DS doesn't shine for its interface
That's also true for the DS one for the most part
The item I'm talking about in DS1 is also a really good item, it's one of the best
It's just that the game makes no attempt to let you know something that's pretty important, you pretty much have to find out by fucking it up or because you actually read the whole item description but there's still the possibility of ''whoops my finger slipped in the menu and now the best item in the game is gone''
I do think it's about the same vagueness.
I am not knocking Blasphemous for it as I said, I don't mind feeling lost in games, but I really don't see much of a difference between the two games approach to most things
ok, this is probably going to sound like some snarky passive-aggressive question, but I mean this 100% sincerely:
isn't every "RPG" like this?
at least I don't think I've ever played an RPG where that wasn't true; half of "playing" those games for me is learning what I can/need to ignore so I can focus on the story without getting de facto softlocked, including the ones I've enjoyed
DS1 is hardly the most polished game, that's definitely true, it shone because it did things very differently than most contemporary games at the time, not because it was best possible version of that idea.
I legitimately wouldn't be able to tell you, the only other RPG I'm playing right now is Cyberpunk and the whole leveling up doesn't work exactly like DS, the only other RPG I can think off the top of my head I've played is P3P and in that one you don't individually level up your stats like in DS
It's not really just that, because Fromsoft kept improving and iterating on their ideas and mechanics but frustratingly they never seem to keep the things people actually want them to keep, so it's a step forward and two back in a sense
I strongly disagree that's the case
ahh hell nah
hm, I think the "RPGs" I've played properly would be two Witchers, two Final Fantasies, all the Kingdom Heartses, various Fire Emblems, probably the first Mass Effect, and Planescape: Torment
(I don't count Disco Elysium because while it's a CRPG in many ways, it's very much an exception that proves my point by not having any normal RPG gameplay, instead focusing on the story/choices/etc I'm actually there for)
There are choices in those games that are sometimes controversial, the most obvious one being how poise works, but there are reasons behidn those choises, it isn't just lack of polish which is where I'd argue DS1 finds most of its problems
I agree with your disagreement
are you two disagreeing with the "DS keeps taking a step forward and two steps back" comment?
Yes
If anything, I wish From was a bit more adventurous with the mechanics they put in their games.
There was a lot of experiemntal shit in DS that didn't really pan out and they don't try to bring it back
They are a bit too safe
like what? (genuinely don't know)
Okay but then they came out with sekiro
Gravelording is a good example
Which was different and awesome
I can link you a channel that explores specifically this type of thing
DS1 is a treasure trove of experimental obscure mechanics that they never revisited
Oh that's true
that might be too much lol, maybe one video?
Gravelording is one, Miracle Resonance, Vagrants
Gravelording was a form of indirect PVP
YOu could basically curse the world of another players, and it added more enemies in their world, that were stronger than normal
I don't think anyone is losing sleep over vagrants and miracle resonance
Being Gravelorded was a rare event that caused extra red glowing enemies to spawn in your game, under certain conditions. If you've ever wondered what "Disasters are gone after the defeat of the Gravelord Servant" means, you'll find that out and much more in today's video.
0:00 Introduction
0:54 The Basics
1:50 Implementation of Black Phantoms ...
If the player found your sign in their world, they could invade you to kill you in revenge
To be clear, it was a borken bad mechanic, but I'd like to see it iterated upon because it was cool as fuck
Ironically, one thing I really liked about gravelording was that since the covenants aren't explained until you join them, when you actually got gravelorded you probably were super confused (in a fun way)
mmm
if I hadn't bounced off DS1 already, the intended experience would probably be long ruined for me anyway by how much others have told me about it
lol
In a nutshell
Gravelording: A special form of PVP where through a covenant you can infect other players' worlds, making them full of extra stronger enemies, people affected by this can then invade you and kill you to restore their worlds to normality
Miracle Resonance: A pretty obscure form of co-op where by using miracles in an area on a level you could temporarily buff other players' miracles in their world
Vagrant: A very fucky wucky mechanic that I forget how it even works because it's extremely convoluted but it essentially spawns super rare creatures if players repeatedly lose their bloodstains with humanity on them or repeatedly drop items and refresh the level so they're lost which can then travel to another player's world where if they do that enough times a vagrant will spawn, with different versions of them depending on how many times it traveled worlds and if they got killed before they could transform into a different form

Gravelording is an exclusively NG+ mechanic
Why not?
Wow that's stupid

There's also Seek Guidance, which could've definitely worked in 2 and 3 if they decided to polish it up a bit more, but again, they seem to just drop certain mechanics and things for no reason

I think it's not a bad idea, throw extra difficulty at the players on their second playthrough
Now I feel lucky that I got gravelorded once
Or that was the intended idea behind the mehcanic
Nah Gravelording would've 100% made people drop the game on a first playthrough
People could've exploited Gravelording pretty easily it pretty much had to be NG+ especially because the whole point is adding unexpected changes to the expected enemy layout
Variants on the theme would be fun tho.
i feel like i have the capability of loving Dark Souls i just need to be in the right mood, and that hasn't struck me yet
Like version that are beneficial to you rather than negative
tbh I feel like you have the capability of loving any game (and I mean that in a good way)
Or versions that are negative but provide you with intersting choices, like not having to find the summon sign to confront the gravelord servant
So you could chose a harder PVE experience or a PVP fight
:3
There was at least an incentive to not hide your summon sign, because if you didn't get attacked you'd never get a chance to get the covenant reward
You know what would have been fire, a way to make the game harder for you, but easier for someone else at random
speaking of summoning i'll forever be kinda sad that Doom Eternal never implemented the invasion mechanic
that would have been so good
Any amount of trying to improve on some of those obscure mechanics would've been rad
Unfortunately they either thought people didn't like them or for whatever reason decided to not try to improve them for the other games, and Gravelording is another good example of DS1's frustratingly vague game design because I'm sure a large amount of people probably to this day had no idea how it even worked (the video even shows examples of people being utterly confused by it) and the game doesn't really do a great job at explaining it to you at all
Of course, Souls fans will lose their minds at any argument against their perfect games so the idea that a Fromsoft game would clearly explain how a mechanic works to you is sacrilege to them and they would mail a thousand pipe bombs to your house for even thinking about that
It's true, I will

Most of the defensivness comes from people wanting to homogenise the genre to be more similar to other games
Honestly more than anything I think they generally love criticizing each other's favorite fromsoft games
Which to be fair, that attempt lowered over the years since soulslike has become an actual genre
one of the weirdest things for me is seeing a Souls/Fromsoft fan describe why they dislike a specific Fromsoft game... and how consistently their complaints line up with why I bounced off DS1 and Sekiro so exceptionally hard
Nah, the people who don't want Souls to conform to standard modern game design is perfectly fine, I'm not talking about those, and those people that have level headed and valid praise and criticism for Souls aren't the majority at all
And I'm saying it because I've seen it happen to others who criticize Souls' game design with valid complaints and it even happened to me
There are people that are fanboys, but it happens with every game
I have no such weakness because I enjoy them all
Okay I admit I don't like King's Field, but I'll deny it if you quote me on it

I'm foolishly hoping that they'll be brave enough to do another Kings Field or something similar one day
I want a new tenchu just to see his reaction
do you think he'd pog
He'd go fuckin apeshit
To be fair I do think that they aren't going to bring back Tenchu because they have Sekiro
Same for King's Field because they have various Westrn Fantasy IPs already
Sekiro is so different though...
Tenchu feels like a game I might've tried had I been aware of it at the right time
kratta have you seen this https://youtu.be/d9NMqE6FVwE?feature=shared
I don't think Sekiro 2 is a possibility but to be fair I never finished that one, Fromsoft just seems/may have outright said, that they try to not do sequels as much and just create whole new IPs
I don't think it's actually that different
Yes lol
And knowing that Dark Souls was one of those franchises that was supposed to never have a sequel makes it funnier to me that the entirety of the third game is about how many times the universe in game went through so many cycles and restarts that things are just dying out and withering and stuff

wow in 2012 they did a teeange mutant ninja turtles collab too
huh
Still not fully sure what this game is
Holy crap, this is one of the biggest releases I've seen that isn't even an AAA game
Pokemon with guns and ark survival stuff
Didn't this game get shafted already for doing something with AI?
Did it? All I've seen are some alleged stolen assets
The other game by the same developers
I see
Turns out this is the 12 highest all time peak on steam right now, above games like cod, fallout 4, and gta v
Oh wow
...wait, fallout 4 came out 9 years ago
no
No opinions
Oh yeah none is saying they weren't heavily inspired.
This is what's called "legally distinct"
Or at least so the devs hope.
It probably really helps that it's a completely different genre, if it ever goes to court
I'm really curious to see if Nintendo will C&D
I doubt, Nintendo surprisingly doesn't care too much unless something exclusively tries to use their brand
Isn't Nintendo notoriously litigious?
Ever since I first laid eyes on the Skyrim mod that added those radical Dwemer rocket boots, I have viewed all canon forms of transportation as inferior.
So if it calls itself Pokemon, Nintendo will follow them to death
If it just looks a bit like Pokemon, they tend to just let it be
At least that is my understanding of their most c&d
I would bet that Nintendo lawyers already went through it and gave a full report if it's likely to win if they sue or not.
yeah but Silt Striders are cute
Like, with a fine tooth comb, analysing every design
Point conceded.
Unlike common beliefs, afaik Nintendo isn't really a "sue everything" company like Disney or whatever; they are very protective about their IP and softwares/hardwares but that's it
You crack opened their game? They will come after you
You make a game that looks like Zelda? Whatever
Thing is, in many ways, a game with pokemon-like things using guns and killing people could feasibly be damaging to their IP.
Depends on how they look at it, I'm not sure.

That's insane, almost a million concurrent players...
From something that came out of nowhere.
We will see if it retains it overtime but yeah, very good activity.
I wonder how it stacks against other survival games on release
Worth mentioning that a good part of players will be from Game Pass tho, so it's not all direct purchases...
Still... It's a lot
Ah. Boltgun.
that... might be a brilliant move

where's that D A M N emerald
it's no use!
it's good casting but idk if it's better than Idris Elba as Knuckles. that was actually perfect
the Sonic movies have stupidly good casting in general
I doubt it would've been half as fun without Jim Carrey
true true
although it's funny to think about how many kids probably had never heard of Jim Carrey before Eggman

(if you've never seen it, the context is he's playing a lawyer who was magically cursed to be incapable of lying any more)
i think im confusing this movie with the one where he can only say yes to everything
because this is the kind of thing that went through my head when I first heard that Carrey would be Eggman, and I went "oh, yeah, outstanding_move.png"
the movie i always think of when Jim Carrey comes up is Ace Ventura which is a great movie until it becomes transphobic at the end
never saw that one
Iirc this is one of my dads favorite movies
this gives me umineko flashbacks
basically the protagonist tries to make a statement in red text (because red is undeniable truth in Umineko) and he can't finish the sentence

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNNb8R1kGyQ oh, cool. Cult of the lamb and party animals crossover

Party Animals is GREAT 💖💖
It's best played with a lot of friends, but yes, Party Animals is a wild time.
My fiancée streams it pretty regularly, it's always fun to watch
Someone walked past and punched the Ori, so it's knocked out. But it looks like it's cozying up to my fiancée, the cat 🤣
And lamb just looks like a dork 😄
@mossy flume Please tell me where you got that Ori emote from, I love it.
I love Ori so much.
Yus <3
I kept getting stuck in the second one, trying to find where to go and getting lost
last year I re-100%'d both Oris
For ori will of the wisp players: || this is what I have to do, and I think I have to go to the gray region or the blue region on the left side but I feel like I might be missing something to get there||

you've spoken to Kwolok, right?
@quiet swift I'm about 70% sure you're meant to go up here:

Palworld is the 10th most played game on Steam, ever
And very very nearly beat Baldur’s Gate 3’s concurrency number
Palworld and BG3
All time peak on the right
Left is current. It’s the second most played game today.
but can it run chrysis
I think I have? I'll have to check it out later
Let's be honest, bg3 still having 220k concurrent this long after release, for a game of that type? Fucking hype
I also checked the gray area you pointed at, pretty sure you’re not meant to go up that way and would need more abilities anyway
yeah it's nuts
Yeah that was my strugle. Heck, if you look at where I think my icon is, it's just below the area you're pointing. I think i might've tried it already but hit a blocker? Anyway. I need dinner first
@visual hill for Thief II, am I supposed to be effectively blind in unlit areas, or is that likely a technical issue of some kind? (the gamma slider in the options has no effect for me)
@slim thorn
Hmm, good question. I think i can only swap those around at a save point or something, right?
bash shouldn't be one of the equippable abilities (shards?)
I'm not sure then. OF equippable stuff, I have bow, sword-type thing, spirit smash and heal
Yeah it was something I'm surely missing, I just have no clue where to find what I need

It's Conan Exiles with rare puppers
It works very very well
Playing Palworld
Foxparks harness lets you use a fire fox as a flamethrower
The ability is called Huggy Fire because you hug the fox and you get fire
10/10, GOTY, Game Freak are cowards.
i think it looks dreadfully lame, but if you like it more power to you
It’s literally a GOTY contender and it’s not even close to being finished
Not yet
Its in ark not palworld
Ah, I don’t play Ark

Its an upcoming creature
@fresh bane heres a challenge for you
Maybe I should play it
A friend of mine once told me I'd be into it, but it's like Monster Hunter, isn't it?
Not big on Monster Hunter
Ark
If you like palworld youll like it
I'm already playing Palworld and having a blast
ark looks more like a survival game, which monster hunter certainly ain't
It copies quote abit of the leveling and ui
I guess it would he like monster hunter in tjat. A lot of creatures you can face are bigger than you
I don't own RE4R
but that looks pretty cool
I think what I like about Palworld is that the size proportions are more realistic
I hate exaggerated proportions as an art style
Yeah but MH's combat is most certainly different. MH combat is more akin to a soulslike, especially with melee weapons
super best friends played it at one point https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IdvYBHpEWIY
Little did we know, it's all been leading up to this!
Oh
yeah I'm way out of the loop with that one
I think at that point in time I was mostly consuming tbfp content from 2snacks' animations
@slim thorn found a video, it was indeed regarding bash ability. Looks like I missed a small little nook where I could get it
okay no, I do have it, just named differently than expected. I just have to launch the projectile, not myself, at the all
by default yes, but if you increase gamma slider you should be able to see in the dark. If you can't, it's likely because hardware gamma doesn't work on your system – you can fix this by opening cam_ext.cfg in the installation folder, then uncommenting d3d_disp_sw_cc. This makes brightness control work using a shader instead of relying on hardware gamma
cam_ext.cfg has a lot of interesting options (it's all the options added by TFix), I recommend going through the whole file and reading comments if you have time 🙂
ok, might try it later, cause I definitely don't want to play a whole game where I can't see anything lol
hardware gamma is (a bit) faster but it's a lot of trouble in old games, so shader-based implementations are used in modern games instead
it causes the issue where your screen remains extremely bright if a game crashes, and it doesn't always support multi-monitor setups too
and I regularly get the HDR version of that nowadays
SDL3 is dropping support for hardware gamma for that reason

hey my uncle drove Bradleys in the military.
fun fact he had a license to operate one of those but not a car
No joke, the Canadian military can give you a driver's license that allows you to drive military vehicles on public roads, but doesn't allow you to drive a personal vehicle on that same public road.
thats funny.
Really? You get along with Donkey Kong worse than Bowser, Wario, and Ganondorf?

Steam has some peculiarities with those counters, for sure.
Steam once told me that I had played a grand total of 12 hours of a game, and that I had played 13.5 hours during the past two weeks.
A little earlier than this I thought ''this feels like it's the endgame so I might as well try this thing out''
talk about the most actively useless weapon in the entire RE franchise, not even the RE2 bow gun felt this useless, I even accidentally used some of the ''special'' explosive arrows during the first tyrant encounter and it did absolutely nothing
To be fair, most scholars agree that arrows are somewhat less effective than bullets.
I guess I should say bolts instead since that's what crossbows use
13th? I should just push for top 10... err... 9? game doesn't show who's 10th which is weird but whatever
by extension it could land me on here too
It's like pokemon but better
Sold 3 million copies in less than 48 hours
It’s a good game.
Played it all day today.
But i played it and punched only person and police came and I had to run and I fell of a mountain and died
Well don't do that
Oh heck
Palworld has jumped to the 6th most concurrent players in Steam history
Beaten BG3
It is now one of only six games to ever have more than a million concurrent Steam players
And this isn’t counting the Xbox Game Pass players.
Which easily makes Palworld potentially one of the most popular games ever.
Funniest shit I've seen about the game yet
Imagine Nintendo getting one up'd 3 times over by a knockoff of their own ip
And getting away with it
I again assert that Palworld has completely and utterly humiliated Game Freak.
They’ve been destroyed by a knockoff.
Ok ill play again today
Palworld is currently at its concurrent peak as we speak, so it could climb the charts yet more
I've never played a pokemon game. describe them in like, 3 words
Cute animals fight
Fighting, collecting, training
Well I know all this. Maybe that wasn't the best question....
They’re laid-back RPGs where you hunt, collect and train Pokémon of many types with emergent properties that give you a complicated and competitive rock paper scissors battle system. You don’t need to be terribly competent about it, it’s aimed at children after all, but understanding the deeper mechanics is surprisingly complex and very rewarding. The games have a chill vibe with beautiful music and fantastic artwork that give the Pokémon series a unique identity.
Pokémon is the highest grossing anime franchise of all time and one of the most valuable brands in the world with near universal appeal.
How does that sound?
Honestly you basically already know how they play, so like… there’s not much to say
It’s better to just try it
Yeah, it's a JRPG but also a monster collector
Although you probably shouldn’t try Scarlet & Violet as your first games
JRPG-lite, really
JRPGs are already lite
I would say the main draw is definitely also the collecting aspect of it, like a trading card game
collecting and trading, at least it was a huge thing before
Yeah it became a worldwide cultural phenomenon
also not a very high bar let's be honest

I haven't played it yet but I've heard nothing but extremely good things about it and it's on my list of games I'm definitely buying in the future but since Palworld is gaining traction I'll mention this game again

oooh I didn't realize you were playing this... and you're already done with the best part
exact opposite for me; while a single arrow does less damage than other weapons, the ability to carry hundreds of arrows in a single inventory slot was HUGE, so my mental flowchart in that area was "easy" zombie encounters should always start with the bow to conserve my more valuable ammo
While palworld is a huge hit, good for them, and they do give a strong pokemon vibe, and also Game Freak and TPC is terrible at their new games, I cannot vibe with the "Palworld is humiliating Game Freak and Pokemon"
it's also still way too early to tell if it has longevity
the premise is exactly the sort of thing that might attract a lot of people who play it once "for the meme" and then just leave
of course the real reason people are saying that is frustrating with recent official Pokemon games, not because Palworld has anything to do with those games besides similar creature designs
but at least it's not as bad as Bethesda and Bioware discourse
Its definitely showed theirs a market for creature collector games on non nintendo consoles
Heres hoping they stick with this one
@wind stump
i assume that means right now and not ever
That's the top 10 of any steam game release and shows the highest concurrent players that those games achieved. So right now Palworld's actually beating out everything, which is really impressive
?
are you trying to say that fallout 4s highest peak ever is 16k
or cyberpunk peaked at 45
that cant be right
I mean, it's right in the screenshot?
The left number is all time peak.

It was just released
Their previous game (still in early access) did not see much acclaim
It's pokemon with guns, pretty much.
This game is basically the previous game plus Pokémon which is what people want
Pokemon with guns sounds like worse pokemon
Have an army of cows butcher other cows and then make their leather into chairs to sit on while they butcher more cows
That's how I feel!
Pokemon's not my thing, with or without guns, so this is just fun to watch
Pokémon is a JRPG therefore automatically fun
Every game with guns I play is despite the guns not because of them
Enter The Gungeon and Borderlands 2 are the only games I play because of the guns
To get more leather to make into more chairs so they can sit even more while they butcher even more cows?
Yes that's my joke
The cycle never ends.
Yes that's my joke
Everything's cool, great for them to see the success, but probably more than a few people are not sure why it is that hyped right now
I'm not sure either, but which games are the most hyped never made much sense to me, probably because they're almost never games I play myself
The most baffling part for me is that I feel like a significant part of this hype is just to make fun of current state of mainline Pokemon games
Ironically proving how successful Pokemon is as a franchise
As far as I've seen the game is definitely not at all comparable with Pokemon, it's a totally different type of game, yet almost every discussion about it outside the players circle is "oh that Pokemon thingy"
It's Conan Exiles with Pokémon flavored minions
yep, which is the biggest reason all of that chatter sounds like the superficial meme kind where nobody saying it put more than a few seconds of thought into it
and the whole "discourse" is likely yet another flash-in-the-pan moment that won't matter a week from now
To be fair, it's a really well done version of those games according to most people
the actual news was that the reviews were so positive
because those are people who played the game at least
even from IGN that statement has non-zero weight
Also I like to compare it to Ark more than Conan Exiles because of the heavy taming creatures aspect that the two games share
And some minor Factorio/Satisfactory thing on top, but minor compared to the similarities to ARK
It even has a similar ramp up in tech, from bow and corssbows, to muskets and early firearms, to modern stuff.
I have no doubt the devs took heavy inspiration from ARK
I wouldn't be surprised if the whole idea come up while playing ARK, and someone thought "I'd be fun if someone modded Pokemons into this game"
i just think the premise is stupid. "pokemon with guns" sounds like a parody from 2012
The premise is more "what if Pokemons in ark"
The "pokemons with guns" is what grabs the headlines, but it's not a Pokemon game
What if Skyrim with guns
lol
Even the map does kind of resembles the pre-historic landscape of Ark in some ways, from what I've seen
just so you know writing "pokemons" aged you like 10 years
it's whatever, no sense in getting grumpy over a game that'll most likely die in 2-3 months when the next new thing has come out

I'm not sure about that, Ark had good staying power, to the point it got like 3 expansions a sequel is coming, and this seems to be better balanced than that
I think this is (unsurprisingly) exactly like Ark
I dont know anything about Ark!
You can play it multiplayer or just host your own single player server
it means paper in my language!
If this ever gets a sequel, all I'm asking is that Vin Diesel stars in that one too
its already a giga success but of course no one is going to talk about a single player in 3 months
It's currently in EA so we'll probably get some info if big updates come out, or on actual launch if it gets there (Survival games don't have a good track record of making it out of EA)
people were talking about Baldur's Gate for like 6 months after it came out
BG3 was kind of another beast to be fair
30 bucks but it's also on Game Pass
Yes, most games in EA cost money
Wtf is Baldurs Gate
Oh shut up, I know you well enough to know when you are trolling
that's weird
I mean, not necessarily as long as it's clear what they are selling it's a game that is in development
DnD but a videogame instead of pen and paper.
admittedly we have long passed the point where people talk about specifics of BG in #1032716748887179434 , most mentions these days are a quick list of good games in the past year (often followed by complaining about how other games aren't like BG3
)
Ironically BG3 is also an Early Access game
I dunno if the BG thread is still active though
They did and it's called Zelda
yeah, every game runs out of things to say eventually
You should link to the past
Once new stuff starts to arrive again, or once we all start to do another playthrough, we'll discuss it again.
so wtf does early access mean
Now it's released to be clear, but it originally launched in Early Access
Ideally. It would mean thats in development as well
Some devs just use it as a way to deflect criticism however
Basically an EA game is a game that isn't feature complete, that you can play early if you want to.
Devs do this when they think they have a decent product that is already fun enough to play, and want money and feedback to develop them game further.
The problem from the consumer perspective, is that you might like features or other things that are EA but don't make it iinto the final product
"Play at your own risk"
why would you buy that and not just wait until the whole game is done
Because maybe you like what's there already
most people shouldn't
V-Rising is a good example, Valheim another one, there is a lot to play there already
And it's very polished
when done "right", it's usually either a game that gives people something they can't get anywhere else, so unfinished is still better than nothing, or it's a game where they want to be a small part of the development process through testing and feedback
Also because games nowadays often just smash "EARLY ACCESS" in front of them and leave it there for years
strange
I mean...developing a game takes a lot of time
It's not necessarily bad if it takes years for a game to come out of EA
also because some games just don't have enough funding to ever become complete without early access sales
as long as it's not abandoned
there's a lot of overlap with crowdfunded games
Hades originaly released in december 2018 and came out in early access in 2020
I don't.
Darkest Dungeon is another one
Kerbal Space Program
Those are some of the earliest examples of EA success stories
is Darkest Dungeon the Lyra one
out of?
out of, yeah my bad
They didn't bend time and space
Even tho I'm pretty sure Supergiant Games could do that if they tried really hard
Maybe it was so buggy they had to revert it
Hades was gay and it came out
I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say Cap is thinking of https://manebooru.art/images/4013378
oops
Yes, it's that one
combo jinx
i never finished Hades
EA has its problems, but also it's positives.
Money to develop the game is an obvious one, but also being able to get feedback from a large playerbase rather than from a small number of internal testers can make or break a game.
what if there's a game where you play as a capybara
capybaraclicker is very popular at the school I work
is that real
Yes bro
Personally I usually try to avoid buying story heavy games in EA for obvious reasons, since you kinda want to experience your first time through a story when the game is at its best, but survival games and mechanic heavy games is another matter entirely.
The way I go about it, is that I consider buying if I was already happy if the game wasn't developed any further.
If what's there is worth the money for me I go for it.

Those were fun
I never finished them, but was enjoying the first one. I may have to install it on my Steam Deck and try it again.
These were one of the earliest horror/shooter games, but it pulled it off well rather than being jank
Word on Reddit is you might want this version over the Steam one, because the game crashes at higher resolutions (2k and up), and the Steam version can't take the patch properly due to DRM.
The game's enemy AI still gets praised to this day.

Hm. This reminds me, I should download all my GOG games for archiving.
I played FEAR back when it was new and the AI really was that impressive
my favorite was when some of them would walk halfway around the level just to show up behind me when I least expected it
Okay, now I remember why I didn't archive all my GOG games. Their download servers are slow.
I'm gonna be completely honest after playing and replaying so many RE games even though Im playing this for the first time I'm doing so quite carelessly but that's because, and I was right because it's the same in other games, I knew the game would always give me enough ammo so I wasn't as conservative with it here
I did use that gun more to conserve other ammo but to me the stunning power and damage of the handgun is better especially because this game loves throwing a bunch of enemies at you and the bow gun doesn't stun/knockdown as fast as the handgun while they're approaching
The plan was to just test out the texture pack I installed but I ended up playing just to see and I ended up going through the entire disc 1 in like 3 hours ish
yeah I'm not arguing a single bow arrow is better than any other kind of ammunition at doing stuff to enemies, the bow's usefulness is entirely in how much the ammo stacks
My dad likes bows more than guns too
Sorry what I meant to say was not about which is better just that because even the handgun is so much better I didn't even bother with the bowgun at all not up until that part anyway since the handgun works more efficiently
I can kinda see it work for areas with fewer enemies, at least for regular zombies, I would love to know who though it'd be a good idea to implement multiple recurrent enemy types that can hit you from across the entire room
Has to be the most annoying enemy in any of these games I've encountered, and the bats, seriously
bats? if you mean the hallway I think you mean, I thought those were moths?
I want to say I'm pretty sure in all the areas I've encountered them they're bats
I want to finish one RE game because Nire likes them a lot
And I really want a wireless headset
The time has almost arrived, brothers and sisters.

Oh, that does look pretty nice.
Doom thread is still here, as well: https://discord.com/channels/98609319519453184/1032717775006867487
oh right, just doesnt seem to show for me , thanks
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo still tried to get Palworld taken down or something because of the close resemblance to Pokemon
I think about it a lot and someone said they wait until it's a big success
I started playing FF7R again so i can finish it. I forgot how good it is
We remember how long it took them before the put the final nail in the coffin for the Smash Bros competitive scene
How long?
Also my dad pre ordered FF7 Rebirth so i thought i should finish the first part so i could play that one
It took them forever. They put the final nail in the coffin of it last year in my opinion. They were busy annoying and killing the competitive Smash Bros scene for years
I think they will wait now too
Honestly, if they'd wanna go after it, I think right now in the middle of the game's peak would probably do it. If they don't decide to go after it, I'd be surprised, but they've supposedly tried going after things like Palworld before and it hasn't gone well for them
Hopefully Nintendo won't be able to do a thing about it honestly
They can't, no.
Not only are the designs all very sufficiently distinct, it's a different genre.
I'm downloading it right now lol, can't wait
People have also been saying the newer Pokemon games have been lackluster anyway
literally came out of nowhere, it's somehow beaten super hyped AAA games and other f2p shooters
It's mind boggling
They announced this like two years ago and I was already pretty excited for it
But it turned out to actually be good when it has absolutely no business being anything other than a disaster
I have to wonder how much of these players are from the east asian countries
it's gotta be a large portion considering the player count and popularity of pokemon over there
It feels weird because I'm not good at it and so many people love it
It was like this
Omg the pokeballs are called pal spheres
Palworld is the epitome of "I'm making my own Pokemon, with blackjack and hookers!"
A whole generation of disgruntled pokemon fans have grown up and became developers to make their own pokemon game
im getting mixed signals on if it's a pokemon like or an Ark like
Yes
true
It's more Ark than Pokémon, but it is both
Basically it's Ark with Pokémon and also Factorio/Satisfactory.
Also the Pals in this game are fucking hilarious
Depresso my beloved
I love him
I have so many memes about this, but I can't share them here
holy shit Up reference
i thought it was a reference to "Birds aren't real"
Where's this from?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFw7QCuCiuk meanwhile, in anime, supersonic birds

I fired like 3 shots all match. This tank's average damage per shot is 390. So how did I do so much? The tank I'm driving is really, really good at ramming, I spec this thing to get up to speed as fast as possible, and my opponents did not have the good sense to try to dodge me or stop me as I charged them.
Also anime crew
blessed crossover
Just waiting for that Hololive crossover. They've already done it with World of Warships twice. Come on, Wargaming.
I was going to say something about the extreme dichotomy between anime girls and warfare but then I remembered there's an entire anime specifically about anime girls and tanks
Now I'm wondering how many people in the military who actually operate real tanks would be into anime
yes those anime girls are from that particular anime
Girls und Panzer - Katyusha (Ύμνος του ΕΑΜ)
With lyrics and english translation
that's wild
In GUP it's just silly fun because Tank battles are essentially a sport
Can't say much about tank drivers, but people in Canadian Navy at least LOVE anime. Like you wouldn't believe. Hell, I think our XO even watches anime when he gets the chance.
Have they watched Gurren Lagann?

I want to believe at some point there may have also been some bronies in the military but maybe not so much now since that time passed
Like a member of a country's air force having a sticker of the wonderbolts in his equipment or something
There was that one guy that printed Luna into a circuit board that got sent to the ISS if I remember correctly
I still remember that
There's a lot of them, but like the weebs and furries, it has kinda just got blended into the culture there. No need to really stand out unless it is for fun.
Cele also is on the ISS iirc
Of course, even outside of that context it's true, I just find it humorous because it's not the types of interest I would've imagined those people to have
That's right, they're both up there
I saw one guy a couple years ago wearing a Rainbow Dash shirt on base (it was a weekend).

for a while there was bronies in all sections of the military yeah
There still are, most likely.
Bronies may not be as widespread as they used to be, but I guarantee you that they're still everywhere.
Dev write up but you can run it through a translate page and it’s honestly kinda funny
Palworld cost about 7 million USD to develop
They didn't know how animation worked before doing this game
Don't these devs have other games they've made, tho?
Or was Palworld the first project they started
I'm sure there are teams dedicated to specific games
It might be that the previous game just used premade animations
The whole interview reads like a man descent into madness journal
Which is probably not that far from game development
Day 20: I didn't know each monster has 20 animations that need to be made, what have I started?
sounds like the journey for this was a huge trial by fire
And it looks like they passed, more or less.
If you want to bake a cake, you first have to create the universe.
"What was your plan with the rigs?"
"Rig? What is this word?"
I honestly think it's really funny seeing how many people are losing their minds and trying to bring down Palworld through any means necessary, it's really weird but there really are some people that just seem to absolutely loathe this thing
Are there? Most of what I've seen was a review which I mean...reviews are subjective, you can dislike a game for many reasons and there are reasons to dislike this one
Also gamers just spontaneously combust every time they see a negative review of a game they like
It's like sunlight for vampires
