After playing a lot of GZ I really wish for a MGS game that had this exact setup but with the GZ controls
the hardest part of going back to classic MGS is no crouch walking
the enemy will only be knocked out for a few seconds, but it's enough to go outside their vision by the time they go back up
(preferably should be done near an area transition to avoid alert mode, they will usually call for backup after a while)
I rarely use the cardboard, I'm not used to it
I also have yet to actually manage to hold an enemy at gunpoint
(I only figured out how to choke an enemy yesterday)
I resort to violence a lot more than the usual player because of this, the control scheme is pretty obtuse and it's often simpler to just shoot
especially since you can headshot in MGS2, to save some bullets
You can choke?
I've held a couple guys at gunpoint but I just immediately shoot them in the head after
it's useful to kill an enemy without spending ammo or alerting if your gun isn't silenced
For the FBI agent reading this chat, this is all in-game
Holy shit that black-red Ditko style color for Pete's suit is so fucking rad
im so bad at naming my characters in Skyrim
what is your race

erm it's spelled Dovahkiin 🤓
Nice rarity bump, Konami

Now I have to choose between having one (1), albeit very good card
versus using that same amount of money to play DDR the whole month
$15 for all arkham and GK plus MK11 and XL Mad Max B4B and IJ2
@SandStoneArtis1 Not exactly the same…but I had a glitch death happen in the first Marvel Spider Man game
Guess Peter hit an off screen pole on his way to this transition 🤣

the same kind of people who microwave ramen without putting water in it
I do. Because I can’t orient it any other way. Also it is in fact designed for it.
It looks and feels awkward when you put it on its side. My former roommate a couple years ago had a PS5, and had tried multiple ways to set it up.
Yeah it definitely looks like it doesn't
IIRC if you look closely though you’ll find little feet on the side that make it work
The stand to put it vertical won't be included anymore.
There was a stand? I just sat mine upright
I guess a stand would be more stable but I just had it between the ps4 and ps3 so it couldn't ever get knocked over
currently mine is on its side like that bc my new entertainment stand is not tall enough
needs an internet connection
snoy stop what are you doing
I guess the Atari 5200 and certain models of 3DO and CDi rival it but I find the PS5 one of the ugliest console designs ever
The new model doesn’t help
Though nothing beats the stupidity of the Atari Jaguar not having a dust cover for the cartridge slot
Yes there's a stand, it is used in both position:
The Atari Jaguar was an attempt to undercut the competition
Ot was it isn't included in the new models.
It saved every penny in production so they can say the console is a hundred dollars cheaper than the competition
Ultimately it was a commercial failure

I dont like how they made all the characters look Asian its like an anime adaption or something lol

The Finals Is Using AI For Voices, And People Aren't Happy
https://insider-gaming.com/the-finals-is-using-ai-for-voices-and-people-arent-happy/

what kinda asian people are you around lol
Nah, they're nowhere near "Asian", but I can sorta see what they're getting at; the characters do have a very slight anime-esque quality to them, but that's normal for a lot of Japanese titles.
It's also a Metal Gear game, a franchise that's very anime-esque even from its first game.
I've been watching a vtuber play through MGS 1, 2, and 3 and they all have a very "This is how Japan thinks America works" feel to them. It's simultaneously fascinating and hilarious.

And then there's Revengeance, which is simultaneously 100% wrong and 100% correct, lol.

lmao these update notes
What's worthy of mentioning is that this achievement's accumulation does not have a required condition (always has been).
Using seeds, Jade Box or playing in Easy Difficulty will do just fine, it will even count if a little trolling is done by restarting and paying 5 times.
"We know this achievment is bugged, so here, you can just cheat it if you want while we fix it."
All the cutscenes that feature Venom from one of my favorite Spider-Man games.
haven't seen Venom in Spiderman 2 yet but nothing will ever top Neversoft Venom
I want to say it's probably the first non comic media to do Venom as not a villain but as a complete giant goof with a bit of a grudge against Peter but mostly just enjoying trolling him
Surf the web, surf the web!
They made him more like the 80s cartoon where he was an antihero compared to nowadays
They take him a bit too seriously now, I can't see many Venom versions say ''You're in the doghouse now, dude'' to Spiderman after MJ gets angry except maybe Sony's Venom but he doesn't have a Spiderman (yet)
oh yeah
you'll never guess who actually voices neversoft venom lol
@gaunt marten someone from the AP server asked me to playtest their AP Minit mod without knowing anything about the vanilla game first, so that was my day; amusingly there was a logic error that made the seed uncompletable so after that I started a vanilla to get all the stuff I was missing
it does not, though it's very early alpha atm
like they still have to fix an item duplication glitch and unbreak the "you got an item!" animations
Oh wow, there is one google result for Minit randomizer and it's just that one
oh and when I got the boat they had to tell me not to go in the house yet because it's a softlock without basement key lol
Oh, two days ago but: https://www.doublefine.com/news/a-very-grim-anniversary
(my favorite game of all time)
Damn i miss the old puzzle adventure games of the 90s. modern ones just dont hit the same way
Games are too afraid to be videogames now, has to be cinematic (yes this is a broad statement and not 100% true but you get it)
pretty much
Yes compared to the originals. they were pretty clearly altered to look a bit more Asian.. i mean these cutscenes could only be seen by people IN Japan after all
Just looks odd since the Metal Gear games are all very obviously inspired by Western action movies and Snake is based on an American
Every single character in MGS looks ultra stylized they never not looked anime
Just because the characters are western and it's full of western cinema influences doesn't mean it's not gonna look anime
It's still a japanese game with a bunch of stupid anime stuff
For me the modeling in Pachislot does look a bit awkward, but I don't see it "more Asian"
It's not like people in Japan want Snake to look Asian, that is a very weird logic
I think it's because most photorealistic games nowadays have real actual face model actors rather than making a photorealistic model based on someone's concept artwork/a PS2 model
also like I mentioned before I'm fairly sure that they somehow completely rigged the models to the original games' animation frames somehow because even the lip syncing is super basic
So that could make it look more uncanny I guess
Deltarune is planned for release (to purchase) when chapter 4 is finished (instead of releasing at chapter 5) https://toby.fangamer.com/newsletters/halloween23/
Not a particularly surprising shift in strategy, I think.

Honestly, this pace was viable for a sub 4:40, but the Hell levels were much weaker than I would've wanted and the Yama fight was a little clumsy on my part. Interesting! I see the discovered attack on their rook, but I would have thought Rc5 would have been better here. I must be missing something.
This seems like it just exposes your rook to be taken by their pawn...? Sure, they lose a pawn, but...come on.
(But I was never very good at chess, can hardly think more than my next move)
What i thought is if i take the bishop on e5 with the rook, i put a discovered attack on the rook, and with that i got able to be a full bishop up

Collecting the Udjat Eye is forbidden.
Collecting the Ankh, Hedjet, and Book of the Dead is required.
The Scepter must be used to open the door to the City of Gold. Firing it is forbidden.```

I still am kinda mad that the japanese model did not make it through the US for the SNES.
It just looks so much more sturdy and sleek looking.
Who here owned a Dreamcast?
Not me, but I love how that console looks.
When Sega was fearless, but also losing lot of money.

It was a good console.

Will say though
Not liking this game's writing as much as the first one, I think there's a lot of pretty bad writing going around from what I've seen
That seems to be a common criticism for this game.
Do you think it's an issue with the plotline, or are the characters just worse than the previous two entries?
jesus christ he did not just say that
Well it's a bit of both innit, both are pretty intrinsically connected
I just don't find it nearly as compelling and there's a lot of small stuff that just keeps adding up
Can't really put my finger on it on this first experience right away but it just doesn't feel as strong and characterization feels off
Ah. That's unfortunate.
...well, at least they still have Jameson, from what I hear. National hero, that one.
That is an amazing deal, and I propose that we immediately start a propaganda campaign to spread this news across the world.
yeah and now there's like a 'good' J jonah character who also has a podcast but just goes on about how cool spiderman is
and it's cringe
They dialed Jonah up a notch in this too he's even wackier

Damn that sucks
Apparently he's just Charles Martinet who retired
Following Super Mario 64, he would go on to additionally voice Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Metal Mario, Shadow Mario, Mini-Mario Toys, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi and Baby Wario in most games wherein these characters speak. He also voiced the enemies Wart, Mouser, Tryclyde, and Clawgrip in Super Mario Advance. His voice work appears in the English and Japanese language versions of the games. With his work as Mario in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Guinness Book of World Records recognized Martinet for having performed the same character in one hundred different titles, the most of any video game voice actor.[18]

It is desperately needed.
Digital Ecliose did top tier preservation work and they need to do similar things for other companies like Nintendo.
But knowing Nintendo they would only make it available as a highly expensive My Nintendo reward without announcing it and only available to buy for 2 weeks.
Then never again
the thing i always think of when i think of the digital Nintendo museum is the Kirby uhh
20th anniversary collection
on Wii
which canonised Obama in the Kirby universe
Remember when they did a 25th anniversary collection for Mario on Wii?
i wish i didn't

"Oops, all miis!"
i appreciate how it exposed me to SMB2 and Lost Levels at an early age
I still have that somewhere
but it's pretty lackluster for a anniversay celebration
Yep
It’s kinda nuts how bad Nintendo is at appreciating their own history when it actually matters
Primitive wiki
I mean, they are making a museum.
i forgot about that
There's also an entire Nintendo theme park
I love the running bit on this stream's chat where the city gets increasingly more fucked up and destroyed and more and more threats appear and everyone in chat including the streamer goes ''OKAY BUT WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE AVENGERS??''

Because everything they do with MJ in this game is awful and cringe
Honestly I'd still say play it whenever you feel like it because it's worth it I'm just having a bit of fun but there really is so many little things in this game that just... ugh
It's all these little things that add up
only thing i didn't like was Miles' really bad final suit
I have so much else to play I dunno if I'll get around to it
my favourite part was the ||Venom mission, i want a whole game of that||
I'd say it's fine if you don't get around to it
There's much more important games to get around to now
like the goat-bunny-cat lady platformer game /s
I did actually do another rando of that today just because
im replaying Mario Wonder
tempted to try it on harder settings this weekend now that I'm getting okay-ish at one of the key tricks
im going to actually 100% it this time
I felt very validated that I wasn't the only one that really wanted more out of this game
As in, a map, a bit more clearer game design, a bit better combat
I'm not gonna hold it up to the standards of an AA-AAA release and I loved the game but everytime I got lost, or I didn't know where to go, or I was having trouble knowing where I might've forgotten to do a thing or left it for later, or when the combat felt very basic, etc, I'd always get that feeling of ''ah man I wish X thing was in this game''
yeah, that's why I had that whole "tricky to recommend" and "careful expectations" hedging in my review blurb a while back
I hope they keep the feedback in mind for a next game or maybe if they plan to completely patch and update the game in the future
(while I still personally like it without the map for my first playthrough I'm definitely using a tracker now, and the other points all stand)
I believe the dev's still tweaking this one, dunno about longer-term plans
To be completely fair you saying that didn't help a lot and was pretty cryptic
I assume you meant because it was very platform and exploration based and I thought ''ah it's fine, I like those things''
if you had told me that it's a bit 'unfinished' or that it's something cooked up for a game jam so it's not hugely polished or what not I would've understood better
They're adding a map last I heard but it doesn't seem to actually be in the game yet
It's fine, it worked out anyway because I had fun with it except for when I was in the twilight theatre and I started getting stuck/my motor skills weren't good enough to actually get through some platforming stuff, I had to stop when I got there because I was getting mildly frustrated but after coming back to it I started having fun again once I had pretty much the full movement kit
I think it's wild so many upgrades are seemingly optional outside of the main ones because so many of them feel like they're so necessary to complete your kit like the healing while moving thing which in the last fight was almost a necessity for me
interesting, I didn't find that upgrade super useful even in the last fight
probably a playstyle thing, I also didn't find Shape of Unn that helpful in Hollow Knight
Last fight for me was basically wild swinging and dodging most of the time
Only near the end I realized her patterns and tried to cook up a strategy
I still do a lot of healing in that fight
(more spidey 2 spoilers)
|| OOOOOH ||
I dunno if it's viable to try and do it hitless, especially when she starts spawning the green blobs from all directions
Yeah no that last fight pushes the limits of the combat in that game way too hard
It's basically impossible to do hitless I think
but I always seem to overpower her by the time I have enough stuff to get there so I just try to end it quickly, especially if I got Martial Prowess
The one move that annoyed me a lot and the one that got me thinking ''oh this game needs a parry/block'' was the spinning beyblade move
I am curious if the dev, assuming they do a sequel or whatever, will go for fleshing out the combat or leave it and just make the platforming crazier
my personal preference would probably be design combat encounters to revolve around platforming, like put the enemies in hard to reach places so it's effectively a timed jumping puzzle, and have one of those big climbable setpiece bosses so many games do well
Combat doesn't even need to be crazier, the one thing I would say to the devs if I ever had the chance for them to read my feedback would be to make the attacks cancellable into a dodge or a parry and that's it, it would make the entire combat experience feel a lot smoother and it doesn't need to be anything too complex
yeah, that's definitely the first thing I'd try
Funnily enough the other game I played recently that also had a bit of a weak combat was Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and in both cases it's less about the combat being bad in itself it just feels like if it had a little more it'd be so cool
There's also a lot of enemy variety in this game weirdly enough so that also made me wish for something else so maybe each enemy has its own little thing you can do to defeat em
But most of the experience is just the atmosphere and the platforming
The only platforming aspect that annoyed me were the black orbs that I could never get the distance right to
weirdly going into first person mode made me hit those better because I could actually tell when they were in front of me enough to hit them
the hoof kick was also one of the most creative mechanics I've seen in a platformer, one of the upgrades I can't believe is optional is the extra kicks upgrade
in my vanilla run I never opened that particular locked door so I had no idea the fourth kick existed
of course now I'm doing rando where all four kicks are separate items
figuring out how to make this or that jump with only 1 or 2 kicks is a lot of fun
I died so much more to platforming than I did enemies that I can't say it was fun for me
The sliding wall upgrade was so damn satisfying to get it felt like just what I needed all along
cling gem feels so good to use
especially when you realize cling climbing is a thing
though it's almost too powerful; after the first few playthroughs it started turning into "oh, I have cling gem, game's over now
"
Oh is that a thing people figured out?
wow
I started using that shit immediately when I got stuck in a twilight theatre area
sequence breaking goes brrrr
I sorta half figured it out in vanilla but technically never needed it so I never really internalized it as a piece of movement tech, it just felt like a thing that happened a few times when I was flailing wildly
same with reverse wallkicks
I also remember getting painfully close to reaching the Underbelley Major Key without Ascendant Light
might be able to do that now that I know more stuff
(not the speedrun way though, that ultra is tight even for good players)
the only ''big'' movement tech I started using a lot was the attacking on the air to reach ledges because I would keep kicking out of habit
I actually used that little movement tech a lot after I read people doing it
wait... this is just laying here?
well I found the main gun I'm gonna be using for the rest of the game forever
Until you get some more iconic ones
I might have to reload a save before I did this whole delamain quest because I'm not smart enough to merge all of Delamain's personalities together and I don't wanna restart him to zero
So I'm gonna have to get to this quest later
"And in Pacifica! Well... Pacifica is still Pacifica."
did you also start using attack to cancel the kick so you'd ledge grab instead of bounce off?
That's what I meant
I realize now I misread what you said
you did it Konami, you revived Silent Hill!

PT could never even come close to this!

even the UI looks terrible
today is the day of The Talos Principle 2
The silent hill IP is the gift that keeps on giving
We did kinds expect it to suck
Real focus is on the silent hill 2 remake and the other new game
I currently have a crack theory that the heavy character weight class in Mario Kart dlc wave 6 will be buffed in some way.
were they below par at the moment?
Heavy characters have high speed but low acceleration, which makes them good on a small number of tracks. I've only seen people use heavys in time trials and four of the dlc characters are heavys so if Nintendo wants people to use them they'd need buffed. The current most used weight class is medium.
I remember the heavy + bike meta for time trial in MKWii
Funky Kong saw a lot of use for a minor franchise character
Online Mario Kart deluxe from what I've seen has been medium character focused and I rarely see anyone using a heavy character, plus the character I play the most is a heavy and my favorite kart choice is not good.
Man that Silent Hill... thing makes Night Trap look like Dark Souls in terms of interaction
ahh interesting, hopefully they buff them Obsidian
I also have two amiibos being shipped.
oooh which ones?
The new Zelda Tears of the kingdom Gannon and Zelda.
SBR
... you know if I had watched Gurran Lagann I would have picked up on this much sooner.
Red Hood is literally Yoko

For an event.
Anniversary event, sure.
But like, so much effort for a mini-game in a lore event
Happy Halloween! This is the first we've shown of the Corprusarium other than the sneak peek we shared on our Creation Mod Con afterparty livestream, also available on our channel.

This looks like a few Roblox games I've played LOL
Silent hill ascension chat has been great trainwreck
Also apparently Kojima and scam are blacklisted and autodeleted but several racist words arnt
Also this a emote microtransaction btw
Full of MTX
Yeah. Only good thing coming out of this is odds are it wont be tried again
Yup.
the wrongness of everything is so extreme I can't even be mad
it's just a parody of the whole industry
never underestimate the bad decision making of these companies
can't wait for whatever boneheaded bullshit Konami tries next with a beloved franchise
I am half convinced Konami hates making money.
What do you mean, Silent Hill Ascension is the best release of the year, we'll get deep dives and analysis videos for decades figuring out what the fuck is happening with it, it'll provide me for hundreds of hours of entertainment and I don't even have to buy it
I am so deeply confused
my take is Konami loves pachinko money and has no idea how actual video games work
this has to be ignorance, not malice
You might not be far off. I can't remember the studio but they were talking about the insane amount of money they got from pachinko, and in the meantime the game studio they owned was bleeding money or not meeting expectations. Probably the top bosses don't really understand the game side of things
Fun fact, Konami announced that their gross profit increased by 3.9% and net profit increased by whopping 39.6% last quadrant, compared to last year
They are still making money
To be fair, the game does seem to have some creative intention behind it
Muddled by corporate greed for sure, but someone had an original plan for a game and it wasn't a good one
Konami doesn't make games. They make pachinko machines and YGO cards
^ most of their money comes from these
They only started caring about silent hill again because they saw how much money capcom was making with Resident Evil
Let them cook
Lmao finally
Pretty dry patch; basically a ton of bugfixes
I'm painfully aware
See
what makes me doubt that
is Sony offering them the moon and the stars if they could work with Kojima to just get PT out the door
because Sony knew that game was going to print money
and Konami just being like "nah bro can't do it"
I can't think of a legitimate business reason they'd refuse to cooperate on that, it had to be something personal
⚠️ TRADE OFFER ⚠️

hell yeah
new stranger things skins and the old ones most likely returning too
Isnt that the one with the demogorgon monster
They better make it a skin. We got the xenomorph already and dbd has it also
Demogorgon is already a s- yeah
they havent been back in like super long though

Also lmao why doritos https://www.pcgamer.com/i-put-doritos-new-noise-suppression-tech-to-the-test-across-5-separate-crisp-brands-and-was-appalled-by-the-results/
I don't get why they won't sell the PC versions of 2 and 3
Because the lost the source code for them

They had to cobble together a buggy version that was barely playable for the hd version release on the 360
Do they need the source code? The games are already made. You can pirate them today
They just don't sell them anymore
Yeah source code isn’t included in the release version of the game
Or most games for that matter
Yes I know that, I'm saying that PC versions of 2 and 3 already exist
Yeah you basically have to “aquire” them from abandonware sites
There are fan patches that make them work on modern systems especially two has a whole remaster patch
Oh man

Does EA Play remove your owned games?
Like, does it update your owned license to an EA Play license?
You can still buy games even with an ea play sub, so it's two different things
No you misunderstand.
I lost Mirror's Edge after owning the game for years.
Because I have currently Game Pass and its linked to my account.
And decided to play Mirror's Edge and now suddenly I lost my game, it now says I have to buy it after already buying years ago.

Maybe EA should fucking put a huge ass disclaimer that you'll lose your bought games because it updates your license.
YOu might want to send a ticket for that. Did you buy it on the EA platform? If you go to billing and history, you should see your purchase history
MinEcraft
I bought it on Origin, now its EA Play.
if it's there, you can probably get something fixed
Yeah it should be in your billing history

I have freaking keys and CDS
and now I have to go again and do the painful activation nonsense
Don't give me that sus.
Ah a pre digital purchase
eugh, yeah.
is it piracy time?
yeah unless you have the receipt that'll be hard. Still, worth a ticket at least to ask. If you have the CD key attached to your account they might be able to look up the key
And see if your account was the one that used it
I think I know what happened.
The keys are from Humble Bundle.

thats one

FOUND YOU
This is REALLY BAD.
Well, here I go with support to tell them to somehow protect my bloody account from removing MY GAMES.

what to name my Skyrim character
Daisy
hmm
Queen Jennifaria III
God
im not naming my character God 😭
THOR BJORNSON
John Skyrim
Why not? Tamriel can't agree right now on how many divines there are anyway. Might as well throw your name into the ring.
Fingers crossed! Humble should be a legit vendor so if you have the paper trail like that, I can't imagine that it wouldn't be doable to flag the game on your account. You might not get that answer immediately from a tier 1 agent, but we'll see
Thor Bjornson is nice but you should name him Jor Bthornson
Gesundheit
there are 9
https://answers.ea.com/t5/Other-EA-Games/mirrors-edge-license-server-issue/m-p/8250376 maybe not the exact issue but also worth a look
ah not the second one, no answer to it
paul.dll?
Where the heck do I get that?
I'd need to install the game from EA Play or Origin?

(DRM was a mistake)
I could download my Steam copy of Mirror's Edge and then give you a copy of Paul.dll
It doesn't come with one, apparently
What folder is it in? Maybe it's exclusive to a non-Steam version
I don't know, I contacted EA Support so now I just gotta wait who knows how long.
It might be worth waiting for support first. Yours sounds like a completely gone key issue and you'd need to contact EA or even humble
What they're talking about is a licensing server check failure
But worth keeping this in your pocket for now
The weirdest part is that I'm not the first one.
Apparently others have had this issue, and somehow it has not been fixed?

Feels like the usual corpo sweep it under the rug until some mf complains really loudly.
Pretty much. Also an old game so the volume of people complaining is prob not worth the funding needed to fix it
Its funny you say that because Bejeweled 3, Peggle, and C&C3/Kane'sWrath remain intact.
ITs so weird.

Selling a license to a game is an obligation, and if they don't like it they should just sell a copy of the game
Pretty shure bejeweled and peggle make more money can ME
Well god forbid I launch ME1
There is also the Origin free game thing that happened too.
But that is in the receipts.

Key activation not in the receipts, but sure as shit a free game activation in the app is.
speaking of free games
ooohohohoho
don't for a second believe Konami is simply ignorant
they're one of the most malicious companies ever
they are now, apparently
but for a long time they weren't, and there was next to no moderation on the live chats at all
Eduardo looks like TomSka if he was evil
Heh, Tarkov food
The only positive spin to this whole situation I can find is that Konami probably is doing next to zero supervision on any of these projects so their quality will vary wildly since Konami hasn't actually developed a game in forever and they just outsource the entire development completely to other companies and devs
Which isn't good but it just means that there's a slight chance other projects will be actually good, I'm hopeful about F and Townfall being good since I trust the people behind those games but I'm not really hyped on Bloober at all
well, in this case I was thinking of "Silent Hill fans"
against specific devs who left as they were declining, sure
not that I've paid any real attention to Konami's decisions, I just keep hearing about big names leaving because they apparently suck now
totally unrelated
I'm replaying Ori and the Blind Forest because why not
My copy of Robocop for PS5 just arrived, but I'm not going to have time to play until at least Monday.
took me a few hours to unlearn all my habits from other games that don't fit this, especially how much the basic jump gives you a lot of horizontal and very little vertical
but the Ginsou Tree climb is as great as I remember
that game looks so fucking cool
Yeah, it looks neat

So, Halo is kinda based
Our friends that we like to visit are big Halo fans so they've forced us to play through some of them with local co-op and it's been a lot of fun
AYO?
Nice.
Is this the first time you've ever played the series?
You do know you have a thread/channel where you can post this stuff, instead of clogging up general gaming?
I played it once long ago at a friend's house in college, but it wasn't for very long
So tha tkinda doesn't count
Ah, so this is relatively new, then.
Which one did you play, this time around?

Oh yeah that thread is a thing
Oops lol
Denzy played Halo CE and I played Halo 2
We've been playing them on the MC Collection
I'm not normally an FPS player but I've spent some time with Doom and Goldeneye. Halo's really easy to pick up and play, and I'm digging the story

Oh, CE and 2 are pretty good introductory ones.
The story has also always been a high point for me; I've always wanted to read the novels, although I haven't been able to get around to it yet. You might want to look into them, if that's your sort of thing; apparently a few of them are actually half-decent sci-fi novels, even independent of the Halo brand.
At any rate, I'm glad you two enjoyed them (and I'm glad that your friends have successfully added two more to our ranks).
I think we're gonna play through them all
Or most of them at least
If I recall they added 4 player co-op right?
"Microsoft is removing the free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate benefit for most of its 238,000 employees and some aren’t happy about it."
"The employee posts even prompted Xbox chief Phil Spencer to respond, noting that he wasn’t aware of the changes and is looking into the situation."
https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/2/23944124/microsoft-xbox-game-p...
Was posted bout half an hour ago

...perhaps? I've never actually played Halo co-op, funnily enough.
I wouldn't be surprised if some (or most) of them are 4-player, although I know for sure that Halo CE and 2 only permit 2 people at max.
Yeah CE and 2 are 2-player
Internet says that Halo 3 through Halo 4 have 4-player co-op, but only 2 people can do local split screen, apparently.
Hmmmm
That.... might still work actually
Me and Denzy would play on the couch on Xbox and our two friends would play on their PCs in their rooms
I've only done a tiny bit of Halo co-op despite playing through them several times
I have no idea who this man is
Yeah I know having seen the tweet that he is the Zelda guy
Director, producer, supervisor, and designer of many Zelda games
he's one of the zelda men
most people probably associate zelda with miyamoto instead
Why france?
Because it's a french thing

it really seems like the best way to Halo to be fair
I'd probably enjoy it a lot more if I was playing coop, the game almost feels designed around this with its vehicle gameplay, etc
Ratchet & Clank coop on PS2 was also a high point for me in my childhood 🙂
in theory I’d be up for doing co-op with people here, though I have no idea if my current Xbox can do internet stuff

Yeah but buying something that costs almost five hundred dollars and throws you ads just seems, shitty.
And I know they sell them at a loss, but even games are costing $100 bucks each, just for the dlc if you want the full experience. Not to mention season passes. But of course, you don’t have to get that and you could wait for a sale. Or buy used, until discs get removed.
It just seems that gaming is getting more and more complicated and stressful than just pop and play.
But I guess that’s been pretty obvious.
certain genres definitely are
"They sell them at a loss" is not an excuse unless they also sell a version that's not subsidized with ads at a higher cost
I don't understand why so many people still play them in this state, but in practice they also tend to be the genres that never appealed to me in the first place
Yeah same! Like you paid FIVE HUNDRED. What do I do to not get ads? Pay FIVE HUNDRED MORE?
Eugh
at least with multiplayer games there is a fundamental need to do subscriptions or sell updates since servers cost money, but of course that doesn't excuse the predatory extremes we're constantly hearing about
Gotta get more whales, gotta grow further, gotta consume more, gotta please investors more…

I think the breaking point is near.
meanwhile my money goes to the indie devs making stuff I actually like
Heck yeah
"vote with your wallet" is a flawed argument in many contexts, but for luxury goods like video games it's pretty spot on
That’s the good thing.
Remember when they added a tiny ad to the Xbox dashboard and everyone lost their shit?
Yep
Gotta have more ads! MORE!
(at least when we're talking about the games themselves, it falls apart again when talking about the consoles, OSes, e-shops and other "platforms" where network effects kick in)

Soooo I think I'm just going to have to avoid that relic
You could use fewer mods
Well, you guys wanted it, so here it is. Sorry if my thoughts aren't as comprehensive as they could have been. My lack of pre-existing interest in Silent Hill: Ascension, combined with my massive disappointment despite my already low expectations, made me just want to do an off-the-cuff rant. Hopefully in some way this is useful.

Jesus fucking christ Zidane
Straight up on some golden boy shit
He fucking jumps in for the kiss too this boy is an absolute menace
I forgot you were halfway through FF9
and yes there's more than a little... values dissonance with Zidane's character
Zidane needs to learn about consent, I think
Zidane says: "Remember, the first 17 No's are just the warm up!"
Woolie (the streamer playing) in his eternal wisdom had the idea of starting ff9 like weeks before ff16 drops
so it was on pause and he came back to it a couple days ago
The "Ooh, soft" moment is still the most wild one to me
It's fun having such an unhinged but genuine protagonist, he's not a bad guy but at the same time if he had a phone and internet access Zidane would 100% be doing tiktoks of how to pick up girls
So they are doing Cata
I wonder if they'll change it since Cata was somewhat unpopular irl
like, adjust the expansion somewhat
It was the last patch of Cata that was unpopular, and it won't have a large gap before Mists.
At the time I liked him a lot, and still do, largely because Squall was the most boring human being in existence so having a MC that is an extrovert, or even that just talks, was refreshing.
And to be fair, he does get better through the game.
But yeah if there was a remake I'd like if they toned him down a notch.
Ah, yes, going into the important details of Overwatch

Ive been loving it so far, Alans first section is fantastic
I've heard it's good and might get it if the mood strikes
but for this particular weekend, replaying Ori and trying out The Messenger probably take priority
which Ori game? Will of the wisps or the blind forest?
both have been on my backlog for awhile
Blind Forest atm
may or may not do WotW too if the mood strikes (I've played both before, back when they were new)

both of the games are amazing though i didnt get a chance to finish WotW yet cuz its hard to get back into metroidvanias after not playing for a long time
def in the top fave list
same
just the art direction alone is insanely good, let alone every other aspect of the games
especially now that I've gotten into randomizers for Metroidvanias
Almost completely finished with Watson's stuff, got all the tarots now and I'm probably gonna do some of the main/secondary missions in Watson just to finish up, unless they progress story in which case I might just do gigs for the rest of the city
But Regina's gigs are all complete now
got these cool shades too, I like how they look even though I'm probably gonna keep the gas mask because it goes super well with my V's color scheme
and to wrap up the sesh I got myself a brand new bike

Jesus fuck I haven't seriously paid attention to COD in ages but this is just cruel https://www.pcgamer.com/worst-fear-confirmed-you-cant-launch-modern-warfare-3-without-first-launching-modern-warfare-2/
TL;DR MW3 launches using the launcher for MW2 that has been re-branded so it doesn't seem like it's the launcher for MW2 (the intention is for "Call of Duty HQ" to be the launcher for all CoD games going forward). There is literally no other way to launch it on PC. Also the game is 200GB because fuck your storage drive.
What the fuck is Activision doing
not really much of a surprise when the mw2 exe was named cod hq when it first released
people were speculating that they were going to release future games on the same launcher thing, which was correct
the 200 gb size apparently includes mw2 lol
thankfully you can uninstall that part

Christ alive, BG3 is the biggest game I have and that takes up 130 GB easily. I can't even imagine 200 GB.
depending on how much content for it you have downloaded/installed, Ark: Survival Evolved can easily hit upwards of 400GB.

Tldr they did a promotion where you could preorder and play campaign early. My guess is its fucking with configuration settings or something
Though from what people said the campaign is garbage and just a reskinned dmz mode
unfortunately (for lack of better words) impulsive and naive people will buy every cod release no matter how bad or scummy it is, and they are the silent majority. i was talking to my dad about modern warfare 3 (the new one) and he agreed that it's a shameless scam and basically just a DLC pack for modern warfare 2 (the new one) but he's going to buy it anyways
probably just going to be a few missions which is fine. even if MW22 and Cold War was terrible, the campaigns were still amazing, I'm sure MW3's will be good too (even if not worth the $70)
i hope people will eventually realize this and we see some AA or indie "competitors" to CoD.. maybe it'll happen someday
messing with the Fraymakers update and holy hell, Fishbunjin is so funny to play as

"And now I find that two objectives (that failed to register upon completion) I have ticketed are to be ignored. Does't your company fear the legal consequences of such dishonest practices?"
Because it's not something CS can fix and needs to be reported as a bug with our dedicated bug report pipeline... legal consequences? For what, having a buggy game?

Eh, it's a Switch. It's meant to be a cheap portable, not a powerhouse.
Do you own one?
I own a Switch, yeah.
The battery could be better.
Yeah, that would be nice.
Do you play with yours handheld or in the stand?
Is Fraymakers better with all the updates it got ?
I use the Switch in both because it's a hybrid.
Thing is there are some excellent looking and performing titles on the Switch. It’s a a case of making your title with the hardware in mind and being smart on how you make/use the engine your game has and hitting to your budgets. Many multi-format titles don’t do that and just “get it on Switch at any cost” due to the size of the install base and little else.

Ok so, I've been playing Chants of Sennaar and man that game is good
@astral bolt you should consider playing it, it takes the deducting things from context clues from Return of the Obra Dinn, and I know you liked that a lot.

But I didn't really vibe with Ace Attorney games, feel a bit too much on rail
Or stuff like Danganrompa, same reason
interesting
I liked Danganrompa in general but I never felt like I was doing the logical connections
I know nothing about Danganrompa but I did play one AA once and I think I get what you mean
It felt more like the game was beating me on the head using logical connections as a blunt instrument for the beating
iirc both Obra Din and Sennaar allow you to fill in the death/glyph solutions as you figure them out, separately from progressing through the world, and many of the in-world progress blocks can be guessed without complete knowledge, so it's feasible and even typical to solve the deaths/glyphs either faster or slower than you progress through the game itself, right?
Yeah, in Obra Dinn and Sennaar you are given the tools to make the logical connections, but you have to actually be the one to do them
while AA if I recall correctly doesn't really have a "here's what I know so far" mechanic, you go through the story and then reach various drama points of "answer this question right now or your client fucking dies"
Maybe it's because I only played part of the first game, but in AA games I felt like the game was kinda broadcasting what you found meant out loud, and later it was just recalling it, rather than you the player guessing things and making the connections yourself
Like, the game was going "this means this" and you had to answer a pop quiz after about your findings.
I have been thinking of trying an AA game again at some point, I'm very curious how it'd go for me now that I'm older and played lots of other games and also there are just more AAs to choose from
oh hi bringi
scatter
I didn't even need to summon you lol

if aa means ace attorney, then "here's what we know so far" mechanic appears in fifth n sixth installments
nice
n has a banger music for those segments
Ace Attorney games, unfortunately, make it so it's possible to finish the game without having a single thought
To be fair, I don't even think AA does especially bad, it's just that I feel like Obra Dinn was just revolutionary as fuck on that department
So while they're great visual novels I can't put them in the same genre as Chants of Sennar, Sexy Brutale or Obra Dinn
Like AA might be above par for the genre, in fact I'm pretty sure it is, it's the genre that's broken IMO
I dunno about revolutionary, I feel like I've seen puzzles like that, but it's certainly rare to have a whole game be one big logic puzzle without a bunch of unrelated fluff
hehe funky lawyers go brrrr
if it anything Obra Dinn demonstrates the value of puzzle games being small and focused
like so many other indie games have done for other genres
sadly I did need to look up one or two things to finish it (and I still think a few of the inferences it expected you to make were kinda questionable)
IDK, Obra Dinn I would define as revolutionary for the lack of hand holding it does.
You either figure it out, or you don't complete the game.
Many deduction games are afraid of doing that
Exactly
but I do think for me Obra Dinn was just a smidge too hard and Sennaar just a smidge too easy, and in general it's probably impossible to make a truly challenging puzzle game that doesn't cause either reaction from some players
https://store.steampowered.com/app/552590/The_Sexy_Brutale/
Is a game where you solve masked ballroom murders inside of a time loop
All the guests are being murdered — horribly! — at this extravagant masquerade party set all across the sprawling and bizarre Sexy Brutale casino mansion. Then at midnight, the clock re-winds and the grisly pantomime all plays out again in exactly the same way. You awake on the floor of one of the rooms wearing a mask with a bloody handprint acr...

well maybe "hard" is the wrong word since the biggest progress-blocking inference I failed to make was "all the Chinese crew only hang out with other Chinese crew members" and... well...
I think that is insanely hard in Obra Dinn btw
You have to guess that people with the same job would probably hang out together, same for people with the same nationality
I might have gotten the numbers if I hadn't been forced to look up the races thing
Deduce who is who by how they dress
And who they hang out with
It had me analyse the social dynamics of the ship, which is crazy
It's such a good game
I definitely wish there were more games trying to do similar things
bein perfectly honest, AA has always been more focused on characters and their relationship than the mysteries themselves. im not sayin that there arent satisfyin reveals, but id say aa's main strength is the visual novelness more than the detectiveness
yeah, I feel like it's the kind of "detective game" where the satisfaction comes from trying to solve it before the game gives away the answer
assuming the games are written such that that's actually feasible, I no longer remember if the one I played was
it is feasible id say
Same for Danganrompa IMO
Most cases hide critical information from you in AA, but the characters are often obvious enough that you'd know who killed
(I've only played the original trilogy so far)
ill always cherish the moment when gummy figured out the twist in 2-2 slightly in advance, that one is great
i may have helped him heavily but it was still a great time
“Lackluster”
Ah yes, because a handheld battery powered gaming computer is going to have a RTX 4090 stuffed into it. #gamerlogic
Devices to compare to: Steam Deck and its kin.
Also they cite nothing, but I assume they pulled that out of the latest Tegra specs
oh right, Gen, have you finished Sennaar? so I can ask puzzle spoiler questions?
No started it today
also forgot to actually ask bringi: when I do feel like it, which AA do you recommend? (was it "Ace Attorney Adventures"?)
oh ok
how far in?
Didn't play it much yet, basically I'm at the bit with the ||garden, cemetery and the church||
And seem like the ||preacher is missing||
gotcha
I love how you don't only start understanding the glyphs, but the grammatical rules of the language, so you can guess what a glyphs you never seen means just by that
oh you'll love some of the later glyph puzzles then
This is so well done
either the mainline ace attorney triology, or the great ace attorney chronicles which is a duology spinoff
Both available on PC
I'm 90% sure what I played forever ago was https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_Wright:_Ace_Attorney, that's the first of the "main trilogy"?
Found the citation. The YouTube channel Digital Foundry did some speculation based on Nvidia's hardware roadmap and made some educated guesses as to what chip would be suitable for the Switch 2. the T239. And to be fair, the T239 was already generally accepted to be the most likely candidate anyway.

(Sorry, I'm done interrupting now
)
I don't think I have any existing reason to favor main trilogy or chronicles, so what's the short version of what each does better?
It's getting better, but it's still not complete
the triology is the one with characters you are actually familiar with when ppl online say AA. ergo phoenix wright, maya fey, miles edgeworth etcetera. its probably better for people new to the series.
great ace attorney chronicles is a prequel series and id say its the best the franchise has to offer to the fans of the series. its the one with more complex mechanics, but i dont know if theyre good for complete aa begginers? like, the intro case is six hours long compared to aa1´s twenty minutes for example. it expects you to already like lawyer games
the biggest difference is in artstyle. triology is 2d, tgaac is 3d. then the settings; triology is modern-ish japanifornia as lovingly dubbed by fans. tgaac is set in 1900-1903 (or some such) briefly in japan but mostly in london. im, not sure what each does "better." both have fun characters, both are banger music.
in the end i think id recommend the triology first n give shot to tgaac if you enjoy the experience at least slightly
tbh six hour cases sound more my speed these days
Herlock is in Great Ace Attorney right
And yet, they still haven't added a single vampire

maybe they survived vampires so hard before the game that they went extinct
Exactly, they already survived the vampires
Maybe they're just in hiding
Or maaaybe, that's what the story mode will be about
man cod fans seem obsessed with shock content. im watching a video review on the modern warfare 2023 campaign and he's complaining that (spoilers) || no russian was replaced with a more "intimate" airplaine hijaking type mission ||.. maybe they deserve the slop they keep getting 😂 all of the new modern warfare campaigns are obsessed with being edgy and shocking you.. maybe to make up for the poor story
yeah, idk. The majority of people who buy CoD seem to prove that it doesn't matter how bad they make the campaign, if it has CoD on the title and the same multiplayer, people will give them 100$ and call it a day
CoD campaigns are "interesting" since they appear to be largely an afterthought these days, yet the sheer budget of the franchise means even an afterthought gets enough investment to do essentially whatever it wants, as long as it doesn't drive away any customers
cue all those video essays about how in striving to be apolitical it's actually very unsubtly political and often not in a good way
https://store.steampowered.com/sale/IndieCade2023?l=english It's not a sale, but a third party event. Not sure why they made a page for it on Steam
Ooh, there's a sale on TinyBuild games
I recommend Streets of Rogue (80% off)
Ay, it's the girl who tried to kill me last area
I like sparing people, even if they wanted my spine like 5 seconds ago

Undertale
I've beaten this game exaclty once and I think you need to spare every boss to get the "good" ending, but then again I beat it once so idk what happens if you just murder
You get a non-good ending
I recommend ticking the accessibility option that makes the game easier every time you die
Ehh, I like the challenge
Suit yourself
They should put her in Slay the Spire
