I love it when fiction understands how basic infosec actually works
Symbiote Spider-Man is no joke
I also love how Chai just literally murders the bosses
It's not beat them up and steal their chips they just blow up
All to the beat of some sick rock tunes
murder is cool
Spider-nan
Brilliant
Dall-E 3 is okay at Spider-nan
Keeps trying to generate a grandma and Spiderman separately though
There's already Aunt May as Spiderman in the comics
Why she have four fingers?
AI generation
Oh
Yeah, it's Dall-E 3
AI still bad at hands
she only has 4 fingers because she slurps her arms into her body and the fingers grow into legs and she is a spider
True
ha, one of the stronger enemies was about to do its rhythm parry finisher but I happened to unleash a special attack just in time and finished it off before it could lock me into that
the specials are useful
have I mentioned I'm really, REALLY bad at parrying? I actually died in the Korsica fight and even my successful attempt had a D for timing
at least I nailed the catch, which is weighted hilariously high for that chorus
Nailed the catch but still bonked her head
let's do another one or two tracks
EXCLUSIVE - Far Cry's Multiplayer Game is an Extraction-Based Shooter

ubisoft are hilarious
they keep chasing trends two years too late
Too bad theres other ones being made as well
Bro
I know they're similar but... Wow
Quick google search
poor texture artist
I don't think this justification flies when you're putting a big ass flag print on the wall
Also apparently they added "inclusive" spanish too...?
Since I didn't play the game I don't know if this is... Well, True
but if so this is wild
this is the worst Twitter account ive ever seen
The game also has a lot of ASL
I don't really know or care about the account just commenting on the thing
yeah i really like that :) it's sweet
I particularly appreciate that ||when you switch to the ASL character the game goes almost completely silent, no soundtrack. Love that detail.||
||the little emoticons were so cute too||
To spell it out, the dude is saying that since the person was in a single mother household, they are feminine for using inclusive terms.
That implication is pretty vile, please vet better what kind of stuff you bring up in mane.
||omg really ??? that's so cool, the playthrough im watching hasn't gotten there yet lol||
||Yep. If you turn up the volume you might notice some vague mumbling from characters talking to you or nearby yelling, but it's completely impossible to know what they're saying. She just reads body language. So she has like 99% hearing loss or something like that.||
Also as a general thing about the game, ||I'm told that literally everyone except for both Peter and Miles are gay. Like everyone.
||
||i can only think of Black Cat and those 2 homecoming guys||
I've not verified it myself but apparently there's more
Mimosa may be comically evil but I'm with her on this
you guys should make a spiderman thread
We stan mimosa
we also stylishly blow up Mimosa, because we're the good guys
murder live in front of thousands
usually I get a higher letter for clear time than for score because I'm bad at / don't care about combo chaining, but Mimosa's fight being all about stun buildup made it go the other way

we're good guys!
Mimosa's fight is probably one of my favourites presentation and ''gimmick'' wise
I'm sure there's a better strat for that than "spam Korsica when you think you might get some hits or parries" but it worked well enough
it was a great premise for a late-game boss fight
I loved the stupid little rhythm game to finish it off
like an actual rhythm game, space channel 5 vibes
I was wondering if that was gonna replace her third phase but nope
and in context it "makes sense"
I also really just like her in general
I love the pompous extravagant attitude
also notice how Chai absolutely sucked ass at playing the guitar during that rhythm section
he has no idea what he's doing
the dress turning into giant robot wings is perfect on so many levels
Minor spoilers for spider-man 2:
I love this suit
to be fair I have no idea how guitars work either, but I do remember Peppermint asking early on if he even knew
although I wish someone had told Mimosa "give us your key and we'll just leave you to your big show"
I'm curious if she would've taken that
(also: called it)
He totally has no clue
also no way Mimosa would've accepted that though she is implied to care more about herself and her image than Vandelay she probably would've felt way too angry at Chai for even daring to ruin her show like that that they'd end up fighting anyways
also called what?
Oh yeah lol I think it's hilarious no one in the game saw that coming
Like... seriously?
they're identical
CNMN: "Wasn't it obvious?"
|| just wait until you see Roxanne it'll be even more obvious/ridiculous, probably should've designed Peppermint with a different physical appearance to make the twist less obvious but it's not like the game is already full of tropes anyway, it's basically made up of tropes and cliches and meta humor which is why it's so good ||
CNMN is the best

oh yeah we saw her several times in Track 8
which is also where they confirmed it
doesn't have to be unguessable to be well-set-up
By the way, unrelated, do you have any thoughts on Ender Lilies or Dead Cells?
haven't played Dead Cells
Ender Lilies is one of my favorite Metroidvanias, in fact I spent a good chunk of last week helping test a randomizer mod for it
did you have any specific questions about it? (there's obviously a ton I could say but I don't know what'd be relevant for you)
Just general thoughts because I happened to come across it when looking metroidvanias
Dead Cells is great fun
if I ever get the urge to try another roguelite it probably will be Dead Cells, though that hasn't happened yet
I think personally I liked Ender Lilies more for the aesthetic, the lore and the music, than the gameplay.
It's a bit stiff, still, it's so fucking good in all other aspects that it makes up for it.
uh... well I guess the useful but still general thing I can say is that Ender Lilies and Hollow Knight are the most "narratively Soulslike" of my favorite Metroidvanias; the apocalypse already happened, no one can just tell you what went wrong, you can't magically fix everything but you can make a small difference, and the boss fights are hard but fair in the sense that you'll die very fast if you lose focus and attacks are commitments
between EL and HK, I would say HK's got the edge on gameplay (especially variety thereof) and EL's got the edge in setting that oppressive melancholy mood with music and aesthetic
so pretty much what Gen said
Well I would put HK at least on par on the music, but it's splitting hairs at that point, both are extremely enjoyable to listen to.
That makes so much sense
Is that an explicit inspiration? Because I didn't connect the two up until now but I wouldn't surprise me if it was
I've yet to stumble across any explicit evidence but it is so hard not to think of them together
(I've also seen one or two people compare HK's City of Tears to Angel's Egg before)
The architecture is definitely there
heck, the biggest difference is that in Ender Lilies, the floating fish are real and can hurt you
NGL it's been at least two decades since I've watched Angel's Egg, I don't have much retained at this point
(well the more serious comment is that Angel's Egg probably has a major faith/religion theme, and these games mostly don't
)
Well doesn't it?
here's a good litmus test: do you remember the final shot?
there's talk of religions in the lore but I don't think it's a theme of EL's core story
True, that said, ||half the bosses are nuns||
especially since the clearest piece of said lore is "most religions went poof when the Blight hit because duh"
There is something there at least
yeah, it's something, personally I see it as part of the medieval european aesthetic and perhaps an in-universe holdover from before the time of the White Priestesses, but it could be argued either way
likewise, it's far from clear what Angel's Egg wants to say about faith, despite being such a huge topic
From the little I remember it's definitely not present as much, but I should rewatch it at this point, I wonder how many similarities I'd notice
an interesting one I only noticed recently is ||the adult man who travels with the little girl is later revealed to be less than perfectly trustworthy, though in EL he merely considered hurting her before deciding not to||
Nire: Can you give me a general overview of Ender Lilies
General Gaming: 7 hours discussion about a 35 years old piece of media.

ahem, it's a cult classic anime art film
honestly I was half-expecting no one to even know what it was
It is, I watched it when I was starting to get into anime and I was very proficent at sniffing my own farts about Anime as an art form.
Since then, the whole genre of Isekai made it really hard to keep a straight face and making that argument at the same time.
all art forms have their mass-produced junk
True true
and legitimately good pop culture products that have no pretense of artistic innovation
I'm mostly joking.
I just learned to appreciate stuff for what it is.
I like Fast and Furious now, my days of pretending that watching old artistic projects while sipping wine was the proper way to have fun with media are long behind me, thank fucking god.
The transformer movies are still trash tho, and you can't convince me otherwise
The bay ones at least
this is true actually
the quintessence of art is the Doom 3 shotgun, witness as it fails to hit anything past 3 meters

Still no release date, they've just entered the optimization and polish phase.
Probably will be out by 2025.
(And that's just me being optimistic)
And this is just their single-player story experience. The gigantic persistent universe they originally promised is still even further out
if at all
so I tried sm64coop-ex today… and I found it has support for arbitrary framerates of all things!
@river veldt this is what hell looks like (at 120 FPS no less)
I love how the final Mario just peacefully accepts death
I never thought I'd see multiplayer m64
and on PC no less 🙂
There were people making ROM hacks for use with N64 emulation and netplay, which let you play online via emulators but it was fiddly
here, you start the executable you compiled (there are tools that help you compile one), you choose a server from public lobbies and it automatically downloads the required mods
Yeah I assumed this was the pc port, people were doing something similar with OOT I remember so I'm not so surprised M64 is also getting one
It works better than I thought it would jesus christ, people are crazy with how much content they put into this
I am very impressed, last time I touched the PC port was in September 2020
(over 3 years ago… time flies)

it'll be interesting to see this with Perfect Dark in particular, though the PC port hasn't received much in the way of enhancements yet
the fact that these even exist at all is a miracle considering people just... do it, for no money or anything

Basically a 30 minute showcase of the game. It… actually has a surprising amount of detail in it.
Looks like they might have a game.
Only took them... what, 11, 12 years?
whoa, 10+ years? must have been some development hell
Getting into the polish phase of development, then after that it's the debug and optimization phase
It also still happens to be the most expensive game ever made
It sure seems like it has turned into the Avatar of video games. Whether it'll be worth it is still up in the air, though.
I dont think it was development hell so much as developers who wanted to add everything and polish it to an impossible shine
If they achieved that actually impossible goal however...
a lot of money was spent in Star Citizen development, it better be worth it
(it is technically impressive all things considered, but also very demanding)
Star Citizen pioneered a decal technique that lots of other developers followed: https://www.artstation.com/blogs/minimacman/gwY2/high-detail-pom-decals-inside-ue4-brief-reference-guide
Yeah, by my count they spent most of their time on engine development and prototyping.
They had to rebuild their whole engine like three times, supposedly
That video seems to speak to much of what they've been up to.
While an idealized showcase, it does show off some very impressive technical feats.

Meanwhile PS1 horror games: ”This game contains explicit scenes of horror and gore.”
While not a disclaimer, an FPS game from 1992 literally says ”Get Psyched!”
I like that it's much more explicit and specific about what the content might be
if I were to critique this warning, it'd be that more than half the text is not describing the content being warned about; that's the kind of thing that trains people to not read what you write
Yeah, the old SH/RE warning went straight to the point.
I think the sweet spot would be that whole first paragraph, and then one quick concluding sentence
this game contains scenes
maybe break the paragraph into a bullet point list of the actual things being warned about (at least I find those much easier to skim than a solid paragraph)
Game
"This…" is what you should never say on Reddit.
I mean, that disclamer is pretty good.
The generic "this game be violent" can be unhelpful depending on the person.
Yeah, disclaimers are for liability, not for helping
Helpful disclaimers are a rarity and indicate thoughtful people are behind this
It's still just one click to get past that...
Actually that's better than some PS1 games, they made you wait on the page
And that was everytime you booted up the game
That was bullshit
I do not miss long loading screens
Deserved
They fucking nail it

https://fxtwitter.com/primevideo/status/1716469558620659726? @graceful bridge @mossy flume
I should've expected they'd announce it today.

i totally forgot they were making a Fallout series !
omg yeah
You might want to get a look at this 👀
Tune in to the Xbox Partner Preview, streaming October 25 @ 10am PT for updates on partner games like Alan Wake 2, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, ARK: Survival Ascended, Dungeons of Hinterberg and more: http://xbx.lv/3QbFHia | #XboxPartnerPreview
I played a bit of Conker Live & Reloaded yesterday and the intro cutscene is itself cut in 4 with loading screens
loading screen, a part of the cutscene plays for like 15 seconds, loading screen
the OG Xbox really liked loading screens, it's quite common to have Xbox ports of PC games littered with them. This sometimes affected PC ports themselves like Thief: Deadly Shadows

Did you see the fallout trailer midnight?
r/notharddrive

They're... joking right?

Nothing is wrong with a little consensually collected human blood
Does the blood come from the developers' pain and suffering from the Activision CEO?
They probably ask a blood bank for a tiny bit of expired blood and then put a drop of it as well as a bunch of coloring into the water cooling supply
Blood doesn’t seem like good coolant tbh
I assume actual blood is way too viscous
Correct, thus they wouldn't use pure blood, only infuse the blood into the water
maybe plasma, though that's so close to water you could argue it doesn't count
I assume it's false advertising because that would be a biohazard otherwise.
of course plasma isn't even red so that loses the "cool factor", if there was one
why am I trying to make this work this is a bad idea
In their FAQ they say ```Wait! A liquid cooled PC infused with real blood?!
A: Yep, REAL human blood. This PC is powered by an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, an Intel Core i9-13900K, 64 GB of DDR5 RAM, 3 TB Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD storage, and comes in a signature Diablo red/black color palette with custom Season of Blood graphics.```
You can put the color back in as an additive!
I don't believe them.
sure, but at that point you might as well use a normal coolant and food coloring
But then you don't get to say it was made with real human blood
My assumption is that they injected like, the minimum amount of sterilised blood in the cooling system for this to not be considered false advertising
so many questions lol
And the rest is just normal cooling liquid
Like 1cc of human blood
(IDK how much 1cc is)

a cubic centimeter?
"Someone once cut themselves while building this"

That'd make sense
What does your PC run on?
or a milliliter iirc
"we performed a ritual paper cut while reading Carmack's fast inverse square root backwards"
I'm gonna have a stroke.
Hopes, dreams and spite.
And pone?
read that as sprite™️
Nah, my PC is pone-free
That too
Mc Donalds sprite would like a few words.
Is 7-up okay?
Is that still around?
If Dashie had a PC the cooling would be clouds.
for the chemists in the chat: how bad are fizzy drinks at being coolants?
My mom orders a box of glass 7-up bottles every time she runs out
Mcdonalds sprite is so fucking good
CO2 is a great thermal insulator so I imagine they must be poor
A coolant sprite pc build
huh
Make it Pepsi Crystal.
But you'd need a recarbonizer for the full effect, so I wonder if that could fit in a PC.
Don't forget the classic
https://www.pugetsystems.com/mineral-oil-pc/
Yeah, it's a toy rather than a practical example
same specs as me, but I have 4 TB of SSDs and aircooling
props for offering a solid PC build with no compromises still, which isn't a given in contests
How do you keep that 4090 from throttling?
I give them no props because I'm not eligible
@river veldt Cap I just found my old 3DS and it has 64 inside!

for me, it never goes past 80°C even in the worst-case scenarios
the Suprim X is arguably the best aircooled 4090 you can get, it's very quiet and well-tuned out of the box
(it also exists in a watercooled version which is good… but it's watercooled, with all the quirks that implies)
I have not had any issues with my air-cooled 4090. It just doesn't get very hot.
(the 13900k, on the other hand…)
The blood PC reminded me of this
https://thefutureheart.com/blood-vinyl/
I'm actually kind of wondering how long the blood would last
real blood cells are recycled (by which I mean, destroyed) after 50ish days iirc
but that doesn't necessarily mean they're unintact
Closer to 120 days, depending on the specific component
the red blood part
120
However, they can last much longer if you don't actually need them to deliver oxygen
Watch the blood be in a small box, while the watercooling is just red tinted water.
can they?
"Yes, it has real human blood"
Yeah
It would be scummy, but they could.
like obviously you can freeze them or whatever but that's different from active circulation
you can freeze a lot of things and RBCs are pretty basic bags of hemoglobin
The thing is, red blood cells do not die. There are natural processes in the body that destroy them
If the process does not exist, instead these blood cells slowly deteriorate and become less useful, eventually becoming detritus
I know they get destroyed, which why I'm wondering about the long term lifespan of a RBC being continually circulated but not destroyed. I don't know if they'd break down quickly after their time is up, or if they'd keep going for a longer period of time afterward before finally decaying
In the case of a blood cooled computer it doesn't matter
In the case of uh
transfused blood, the half-life of useful blood is thirty days
I mean, it matters if you get a ugly iron tar clogging up your system at the 150 day mark
It's unlikely that the entirety of the cooling solution is blood based.
A single drop is enough to satisfy their advertisement and will not impede cooling
@fresh bane time to beat up _the financial department _
...I think some part of me knew that line about the cannon was foreshadowing but lmao
''This is the greatest plan ever!
''
''This is the dumbest plan ever
''
I love how the start of that track they just skip straight into the important bits and are like ''oh man that was such a cool level wish you could've seen it anyways moving on''
also Korsica 808 is adorable
I thought I sucked at rhythm games but here I am getting ASS on half the levels (that's a good score)
Yeah that was an inside joke with the developers. It's a reference to something (I can't remember about what) along with a way to cut out a level for time restraints. A double win if you will
I'm sure many of these meta jokes are 4th wall breaks
like the one where CNMN feels bad for the designer of that one huge robot we don't get to fight
Unfortunately no giant robot fight, sadge
oh well
The intro thing was also a reference to another game franchise, I can't remember right now which one...
wow, that firebird miniboss was my first D clear time in a while
I was clearly not understanding how they wanted me to fight that
I love the markiplier face
They should add a Markiplier mode to persona 5
I am a fan of (though only vaguely passable at) rhythm games but completely disinterested in beat-em-up action games.
I thought Hi-Fi Rush was great and went through pretty much the entire game on the day it launched
It is possible to beat it on standard difficulty using nothing other than reasonably good timing and the basic attack, which worked out well for me.
i think every game should have a Markiplier mode
Even Jerma Simulator?
Fire bird things still give me a lot of trouble
They're very aggressive
I just completely brute force it and spam assists and whack it while tanking the hits
for me it kept recovering so fast I couldn't seem to get half my assists or a full combo to connect
I'm like 85% sure I missed something
If you did I don't know because the same happens to me
Peppermint is the one that knocks them down I think I don't know if Korsica does anything to the fire ones specifically
But I assume you're meant to knock them down and wait for them in the ground but... That's tough to do when there's 50 other robots on your ass
And since there's no lock on mechanic you can't manually aim Peppermint in a fight
I'm dreading the day I buy HiFi Rush. I'm good at rhythm but not amazing at it. I'm also a completionist sooo...yeah

I was going for 100% before you started playing
As much as I can anyways, mostly going back to previous levels and completing the minigames and other challenges
I can definitely do that, but I'm the kinda guy that will go for 100 until I get bored, complete it, or rage quit
lol
I too get a weird fixation with completing as much as I can on a game
To the point where for games where I have even a slight issue where I could totally miss out on something or my brain can't focus enough to actually remember if the game requires you to remember certain things I just use guides to help guide me and check any stuff I might've missed before progressing
I remember using a very useful interactive map for RE3 and for RE1 I used a ''map walkthrough'' someone made on reddit
very useful because I don't want to be told what to do exactly or read a guide but the map gives me that quick visual aid
there are plenty of games which I 100% in some weak sense because it's actually fun to do that extra stuff, but it really depends
also every single miniboss why
ASSD!
it wasn't up to me that it kept choosing to stay invincible
those doors man, taunting me
Peppermint best female protag of 2023
also this is interesting, this is the first quest of this kind I've seen in this game
this old lady I rescued into the main hub town gave me a notebook and told me she loves the view from the lighthouse and to draw it for her, had to go to the top and use the notebook to draw it, I was a bit suspicious since I thought it'd just do it automatically and I didn't want to risk messing up the quest and using the notebook for nothing
but hey
that's pretty cool
of course this would be the day my laptop gets laggy
You should delete files in the windows folder
omg I nailed the rhythm parry on the bird first try and got SSS
of course this would be the time I fail to screenshot it
I believe it
Inscryption player in the making
Inscryption mentioned
I watched like 3 whole playthroughs and not ONCE did they use the overcharge ability with the full battery...
how full is "full" exactly?
I can't tell how many reverb gauges I have but I still use my 4x special sometimes
I forget exactly how it happpened now that I think about it. I just remember having 3 different people not using a core mechanic for attacking....like the exact same mechanic
ah well, I use the 2x special all the time
also, Stanley Parable has taught me that the only good solution to this situation is to unplug the phone
but it won't let me
🍓
git gud skrub
anyway despite all those Ds on miniboss times and missing like half my parries in the boss it still deemed me ADEQUATE
Kale is so screwed
this is the last track, right?

I love this game
well fudge, final phase is death looping me
yeyeyeye fuck him up!
well it is the final phase
FUCK YEAH
This vaguely reminds me of Okami, scoring your combat speed and... something else. How often you got hit, maybe?

It's actually probably a Bayonetta thing
(also on switch)
well it’s a standard spectacle fighter thing
Platinum made a lot of the best spectacle fighters, and also Okami, so that’s probably why
Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising also do this per-fight grading thing
DMC does too, right?
Nope DMC does not
ooooh
It's only a Platinum thing
gtk
well Hi-Fi’s not Platinum, right?
or was “Tango Gameworks” what the ex-Platinum devs made
I forgot how that drama shook out
oh nope, Tango is Shinji Mikami's thing
I'm not pirating a game when I haven't played the games I paid money for yet
(but also yes play Okami)
Thats the anime dog game yes
Okami is alright, I just haven't really had the proper port to play it.
Gonna need to get a console that has the HD port.
well Shinji Mikami did work on Platinum once but his thing since Tango Gameworks has been his usual horror themed games like when he worked at Capcom
This is just Platinum inspiration I guess
guess so
even Platinum doesn't always do fight grading; it wouldn't have worked at all in Nier: Automata's structure
that does feel like the exception though
it's a shame I haven't heard good things about any of their post-Automata games
looking back on the list, I've played a surprisingly large fraction of their games before that
back in the day i bought a ps2 and then a ps3 and a wii JUST to play okami
i have basicly played it though on each platform it came out for
all time fav game
I keep forgetting Nier is a Platinum game, probably because Hideki Kamiya had nothing to do with it and I associate him with most Platinum games
same with Metal Gear Rising
What a coincidence both of those games are fantastic too, seems like a pattern there
there's a lot of cross-pollination going on between these studios
out of all places this is where this fucking cat decides to go
hm... my overall track grades were 3 Bs, 8 As and 1 S
that's gotta be the best I've ever done on the first/only playthrough of a spectacle fighter
usually I'm lucky to get more As than Cs
unsure how much of that is me gelling with the rhythm mechanics and how much is it actually being easier
it feels like both
I don't wanna say it's easy because it very much isn't but it's definitely on the easier side for these types of games, kinda has to be because of all the stuff going on and mixed genres, I actually had to switch from Hard to Normal because I just couldn't play otherwise
(also because of the previously mentioned mouse problem I had for the entire game that I only managed to correct literally after finishing)
But like I said you actually performed better than I did on most levels and fights
yeah, the word is definitely easi_er_
like, compared to (my vague and distant memories of) Bayonetta 1-2 or Metal Gear Rising
(or Transformers Devastation but nobody remembers that exists)
you said you used mouse and keyboard?
I definitely prefer controller for this, I wonder if that's a factor
i remember devastation how dare you
we dont remember it because its lisence expired with hasbruh a while back
There's a transformers character action game?
I use mouse and keyboard for everything, I don't have a controller, it's probably the better choice for this game but I actually ended up finding that binding the attacks to keyboard keys was comfortable enough for me
yep, Transformers: Devastation is another Platinum Games spectacle fighter, imo almost as good as its more well-known games but it was so long since I played it
I kept having this bug where the mouse would essentially still be active in a way even though the game was in full screen and the mouse was invisible so if I played on windowed mode I'd have times where I'd click outside the game or click the game window and stretch it out
its basically a console exclusive now since the lisence ran out for the game and it isnt sold on any digital storefronts anymore
Even playing on borderless windowed mode, a lot of times the mouse would just not register a click, I assume because it was clicking the window border or outside the game, so a lot of times I'd miss some qtes like the parries and I'd just be unable to attack or continue combos
interesting
A pirate's life for me....
tbh that's part of the reason I prefer a controller for most games
oh this game is a ps3 game... I thought this was recent
was there not a relatively recent transformers game?
"keeping the cursor inside the window" is kind of a strange problem that exemplifies how mice were really not designed to be a gaming device
(yes I understand that many people find mice way more precise than analog sticks)
they really weren't but they're so intrinsically connected to the pc gaming experience now it's impossible to design an alternative
if there's a noteworthy recent TF game I am not aware of it
The closest thing I know is a special mouse I remember a league of legends youtuber I watched uses where it's basically a pad of sorts and the mouse has a lot of buttons on it
Let me look it up
I "only" own three TF games on Steam: War For/Fall of Cybertron, and Devastation
what
a friend of mine uses one of those for art along side their graphics tablet
all the macro keys to quickly change pen modes and navigate menus without letting go of the pen
So I'm pretty sure it works like a pad which is that little part on the right there which works for the mouse movement, think of something like the pad on the steam controller although other types have a joystick, so you use your thumb for any cursor movement
the rest is just customizable keys and the design is actually extremely comfortable people say
yeah it's a very comfortable thing to use
If I didn't care about not spending a lot of money on stuff I would probably get it for art too (and maybe gaming if I ever put the time into figuring out how it works), it's actually pretty cool
Some few simplisticon clips i gathered. They show most of the tricks i've managed to discover playing this game so far.
-All characters showcase.
-Mostly all type of melee weapons were used.
-Prime difficulty, where enemies are annoying and try to break free as fast as possible by parrying or rolling away.
Enjoy and if it's not that big of a d...
alright... I'm interested....

I will also jump on the Devastation praise train. That game was very fun, and I would absolutely recommend it to you if the gameplay catches your eye.
...I mean, good luck actually getting your hands on it, but still.
A new PTR is available for Heroes of the Storm!
You can read more about the patch notes here: https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/heroes-of-the-storm/24017507/heroes-of-the-storm-ptr-patch-notes-october-23-2023
...WTF?
what is this
They...actually updated the game.
My God.
No this isn't TF2
this is an actual update
not a huuuuge update but, still, a nice update
not a problem
also this reminds me so much of Rising's UI
I was not expecting to start this but I'm very happy with the outcome
''hey remember witch time?''
Oh my god this really is just Metal Gear Rising with a Transformers skin
they even go sick metal tunes
oh that reminds me to claim Ghostwire, thanks
Just about.
Honestly, I'd argue that the camera angles are actually more agreeable in Devastation. I can't recall having to fight an enemy in this game that I couldn't see on the screen. If it did happen, it must be far less common than in Rising.
They played us like a damn fiddle!
Wrong Metal Gear but I'll take it
More like Yes! Yes! Split it wide open!
That first boss fight felt like the Ray fight
why did I have so much fun with this transformers game out of all things
and Platinum of all companies made it too
Honestly, most of the Transformers games that I've played have actually been good games. I still maintain that Fall of Cybertron is a genuinely well-made and fun shooter.
Admittedly, I haven't played through the franchise's entire repertoire, but what I have played was better than I was anticipating.
I've actually seen some gameplay of that I think
Finally Starscream is the leader of the decepticons but for how long?
I m playing FOC on PC
If You like my vids SUBSCRIBE for more
yep lol
I remember seeing somewhere something about a thread of games where there's interactable stuff on cutscenes and one of them was the ''Press A to shut Starscream up'' or something like that
Transformers games have weirdly high quality which is weird because I don't really hear about them all the time at all
Maybe it's because I know nothing about Transformers and I'm clearly outside the demographic of these games for fans but I never usually hear or see about Transformers games too much
But damn, the little snippet of Devastation I played, that shit is good
(apparently the ''Coronation, Starscream? This is bad comedy'' thing is a reference to the cartoons)
I will say the pure badassery of taking down someone like 10 seconds after they get coronated is pretty awesome
poor guy didn't even get to do anything
lmao
I mean looking at both flags, it is a fair mistake

Yeah this has been flying around a lot
I've seen a lot of people say that but... come on
it takes like 2 seconds to be like ''hey was that cuba or PR's flag...? let me just look it up real quick''
I've also weirdly seen a lot of people hate on Spiderman 2 seemingly
it is fucking great
moreso than Spider-Man 1 at least
No no, not people laughing about this, or a large majority in general
Just people being negative for small reasons
I guess it's just because the game has gotten very popular and was hyped a lot, there's always people like that
(I've also heard other valid complaints about being disappointed by the game which is fair criticism but I haven't played either so no comment from my part there)
like the person on Twitter who's disappointed Insomniac didn't go out of their way to model the interiors of every single apartment in New York City
I only looked up the available suits in the game which look great
I love a lot of them, the original designs look kinda ass unfortunately, but other suits from the comics and other media are amazing
Yeah there was one tweet about a guy being mad you can't enter the subway which was silly
i dont like the ones with the cape
|| Noir || suit doesn't look like it translates to Spiderman gameplay very well unfortunately
Should've used the Shattered Dimensions design instead
i like how ||Miles' Spiderverse suit has half frames like the movie, though it's kind of jarring||
that was a thing in the first game too and I don't think it looks great
There is a critical point of hype, and after that people start to become "Well, it's not that good"
Nah I'm not talking about that
I'm talking about people going ''WTF is this shit??? I can't go into the subway system???? what a fucking trash game
60 dollars wasted!!!!1111''
The tweet about the bike getting hit by a train comes to mind
I've also seen a guy get super mad that MJ isn't hot in this game and while I agree on the fact that I dislike her new design/face I think that's peak comic book fan behavior
That is not even worth caring about, they will just exist
Peter's face looks way better in this game
But I have seen people give legitimate criticism to the game even on day 1 which is completely fine
I don’t want to hear another WORD about Xbox games having bugs or being unpolished.
Clean your own house up! 🤣 🤣 🤣
“Polished” “Quality” “Best one yet”
💖 105
The only thing I'm disappointed about is how they kinda screwed up a lot of the models and textures on launch. It'll most definitely be patched soon, but it's kinda jarring how good it looked in the promotional reels and then on release the graphical quality is not nearly up to snuff.
Other than that though, by all rights it's a high-quality gaming experience and seems to be doing very well for itself. All the other complaints I've seen are how it's "too woke" (???) and how MJ looks bad (which, gonna be honest, is horseshit; she looks just fine).
Should go see a doctor about that, arms aren't supposed to do that
You have to go super out of the way and purposefully do this to get that glifch
"too woke" means there are pride flags and 2 queer characters, don't listen to those people lol
I know, thus the "???"
Because it's dumb.
it's neat that Black Cat is bi
"What, do you think there are less than 2 queers in New York?"
Can't LGBT people have ONE win without people telling us to sit down and get out?
Ngl, I thought she always was.
People getting mad at a Spiderman game for supporting LGBTQ+ characters is super funny cuz its fucking Spiderman of course he supports LGBTQ+ people
I took one look at her in the comics and I was like, "Yup, that woman is bi as hell".
I can kind of understand such kind of criticism if it's like there are 40 characters and 38 of them are queer for no specific context, like that's unlikely without a correct setup
But if it's like "there are 40 characters and 6 of them are queer" then it's like, yeah that's totally just real
Q-Force, lol
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
I did bring up the other day the fact that the spanish version of the game seems to include ''inclusive'' spanish which is a whole topic in and of itself but that's probably the most legitimate criticism I can think of when it comes to being '''''''''''woke''''''', the word itself is basically a parody at this point
(Which, let's be honest, nobody asked for, least of all the LGBT community.)

in a world where being gay is the norm (Equestria)
Spiderman 2 sure isn't the first to make Black Cat bisexual but I think it's mostly a recent thing
For most of her story and most of the time she's Spiderman-sexual
Theres also a really racist criticism i saw calling miles' mom a taco character and getting mad that she spoke in English and Spanish
Ngl, it genuinely wouldn't surprise me if literally everypony in Equestria is pansexual at this point.
Of course, that's also very unlikely, but it wouldn't surprise me.
that's just being racist that's not even a criticism
Yeah
fim is like "how gay the military is" but reverse-gendered /j
that's a great quote out of context
That's just garbage person spreading their garbage around. Don't listen to them.
''wait a minute, this isn't criticism, this is just being racist
''
Only reason i saw it was cuz of a tweet criticizing them for saying it
Depending on what that means I could understand, a lot of times when media portrays multicultural characters or characters whose first language isn't english they always tend to fall into the trope of making them use like one expression or word in their language to kind of remind you ''hey this character is from X country!''
and it's really annoying and completely not how people mix the languages, but I don't know if that's what that person was referring to
Especially in places like Puerto Rico I've noticed it's not uncommon to just completely switch between both languages
Oh a 4chan anon, yeah who cares

why is this being signal-boosted?
yeah let's not spread that around
you're fine
Most of the criticism for the game is just so bad
On a more appropriate topic, and I don't know how much of a spoiler this is, they finally added the best live action outfit into a Spiderman game
Ive been using that suit a lot
that's not Tobey Maguire's suit
and interestingly, they also added the other one too
If we reacted to every awful or dumb thing someone said on 4chan, we'd never talk about anything else
If we talked or reacted to every stupid shit anons on 4chan say we'd lose brain cells so quickly we'd devolve into cavemen
as a general rule, responding to bad takes gives those bad takes legs. Like if it already has legs within your social circles, it may be worth debunking, but if it's like only being spread as a bad take, adding to it doesn't improve the situation
not to spam but these are some of my favourite new suits from this game that weren't in the games before
Classic symbiote is so good, I didn't like the default robotic mecha look the one in the game has, so that one is amazing
Robotic mecha symbiote suit?
The symbiote design in Spiderman 2 has very odd segmentations on the suit that make it look like a robot
I didn't like it at all, so I appreciate the alternative simpler more comic accurate suit
Oh
ngl one of my few complaints with the new spiderman game is that theres no ps1 era type suit
as a throwback to the first 3d spiderman game
spiderman 2000
they look more like muscles to me
I think it looks fine
that version being added as a suit you could use would have made the game perfect lol
That's fine, I just appreciate the alternative for people like me who do not like it
I would like a low poly 2000s Spiderman outfit but unfortunately no there isn't one
Just the Spiderverse ones with low framerates
I like this suit for Miles
Eeeeh none of Miles' suits look that great to me unfortunately
The best miles suits are probably the 2020 one and The End one, those are great
The others are fine or way too noisy for me
old man Miles and cool futuristic Cyberpunk Miles
aw yeah it looks like they brought the homemade suit from Homecoming back
that's one of my favourites
oh yeah another suit that would have been cool is one that gives peter the spider-gwen color pallete lol
This one is also pretty cool although not as cool as others, I feel like this is a teaser for the next game too
the pink and the white
the trans Spider-Man suit
Also i love how fast you can traverse the map in Spider-man 2
Those are pretty damn sweet
i really like the web wings
I've been avoiding everything Spider-Man 2 related until I can play it, but I absolutely must know one thing.
...do they still have the Jameson broadcasts?
Yes
Good, good.
Would have been unplayable without them.
oh yeah another suit they should have done for the new game
would have been super sick
The person I wanted to watch the game from hasn't started it yet sadly, and no PS here and no interest in getting one so I'll wait the few years until it gets to PC before actually playing it.
I still have to play the Miles Morales spinoff so I'll play that at some point between here and there
I don't mind waiting TBH, the 1st one was fun but it wasn't like, something transcental for me.
Happy this one is good as well
I think these games get too much hype because Spiderman is a very hot topic right now and also there hasn't been a great Spiderman game like this since... I want to say Ultimate or Web of Shadows
The last Spiderman games were the two TASM movie tie-in games which were.... fine
the ps2 era spiderman games were pretty good
I mean they are really good, if someone came to me and they said it's their favourite game ever I could see why.
It's just not my favourite genre personally
But yeah these games I don't think are life changing, they're very good from what I've seen and very well made, big budget, talented artists, but nothing that's gonna make me want to go out and buy a PS5 because I must experience this
the ones with bruce campbell as the narrator
ive been watching jacksepticeye play which has been fun
same
i really like Kraven in this game
Ehhh PS2 era has a handful of good ones, Ultimate was incredible, Spiderman 2 of course, Friend or Foe was pretty fun
The others are alright
I have always been a bit too outside Jack demographic but I could give it a shot and see if I don't mind it as much
yeah i kinda figured haha
also black cat being bi is super sick lol
I wonder if they'll ever do another game like Edge of Time or Shattered Memories again, as much as Spiderman and open world gameplay are intrinsically connected because of course they are, the more campaign focused linear games are still really good
i will say he's chilled out a lot in these past few years
Spiderman 2000 and Enter Electro are still legendary
2015 Jack and 2023 Jack are like, completely different people haha
There are mods for Spiderman 2000 mainly for re-texturing which does a good job at remastering the game
is Spider-Man 2000 the one based off the animated series
there's also a mod to add the 2000 low poly Spiderman into Spiderman ps4
Uuuhhhhhhhhh
sm2000 is based off the comic spiderman
I mean, some voices are the same because that's what the actors were at the time, and the theme is the one from the 60s cartoon but no, it's all just comicbook Spiderman
The game's soundtrack was composed by Tommy Tallarico
holy shit
his mother must be very proud
really the only downside to sm2000 is not being able to go on the streets
which was kinda fixed in Enter Electro
though they did kinda explain why you couldnt go on the ground through lore reasons
reminiscing on a childhood full of i'm already at full health
Tomorrow's the day, it seems.
...still sort of difficult to believe that this collection actually exists.
What improvements do they actually add to MG1-2 in the collection?
Just regular ports?
Vol 1 so far is only the pre PS1 games right?
no
Its metal gear solid 1, 2, and 3 and
Those were just two of the ones listed; MGS 1, 2, and 3 are also in there.
Then whoever made that page is an idiot and should be fired
The bonus content for the pre-orders of METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION Vol. 1 includes:[3 Additional tracks to the Digital Soundtrack]・THE BEST IS YET TO COME (Master Collection ver.)・CAN’T SAY GOODBYE TO YESTERDAY (Master Collection ver.)・SNAKE EATER (Master Collection ver.)The origin of stealth action returns.
I guess they did it so that the games show up seperately in your library
Yeah no that's just a steam page that shows MG1-2's pack
The vol 1 is all 3 Solid games plus MG1-2
Good to know
That's probably the case. There seems to be, like, five pages for this one collection.
Really curious to see how these will be recieved
I'll be surprised if they actually put some effort in this
Yeah. Also it’s weird how some reviewer claimed that they were terrible multiple months in advance before review copies were sent out.
But yeah, it wouldn’t surprise me very much if they were half-assed entirely just as insult to injury to the franchise and nothing else.
But I wouldn’t make any judgements until they’re actually out
Yeah I'm definitely hoping for the best
Well, we won't have to wait long.
If the early sketchy claims turn out to be accurate then it’ll be pretty sad that running them on an emulator would be better than an official port.
Presumably we only have to wait about another 30 minutes.
Listen it's a win win situation
A Hideo KojimaKONAMI game
Either we get good MGS games on PC and other platforms, or we get a news cycle shitting on Konami
Both are wins in my book
If they do actually replace that text that’ll be absolutely bonkers
Somehow I can’t rule out the possibility
Oh yeah no these will just be regular ports so don't get your hopes up that these will be anything crazy
this is Konami
Them being functional would already be okay
I already have MGS1-2 on GOG so I don't see a particular reason to buy this collection
it will basically be just like the previous MGS HD collection
I’ve not yet played the MGS series and I’m hoping this’ll be good enough to let me do that in a convenient way. If it’ll work on Steam Deck then even better.
Just on PC now
You're not getting a Silent Hill HD collection thing where the games are arguably worse at least
So the fact that the games aren't completely fucked is enough to praise and be excited for I guess
i refuse to give money to Konami but maybe this will open the door for modding to improve these games on PC hopefully
Supposedly
If it does I'd probably get it on sale just for the mod support
Knowing konami and all the leaks/news on this, everything points to them doing the bare minimum for this
But... mgs4 in vol 2, and now we're talking
I am worried because MGS4 looks good enough that they could actually fuck up the perofrmance, while up to 3, it's ps2 games, even if you don't really optimise them, modern hardware is gonna chew through them
wait till you PLAY ffxiv 😂
Also PS3 games are historically hard to port, because of the weird architecture it had
The way mgs4 was allegedly developed does give a lot of concerns as to performance on pc and ps5
Well MGS4 has never been ported on anything so that'd be new uncharted territory there
I honestly think Konami porting MGS4 for these new collections would be far too much work than Konami wants to put into anything
But I'm hoping
it still runs better emulated on PC than it does streamed to PS5 or ran natively on PS3
It still is far from perfect
oh yeah the emulator is rough
Its probably the holy grail of ps3 emulation due to how its coded and the fact that its only on ps3
i saw a video showcasing keyboard and mouse controls added to MGS4 which was cool, but ive played MGS4 Online (emulated) with mouse and it was NOT pleasant
Definitely is
3 and 4 are actually the only mainline metal gear games not on PC
but even 3 is on modern consoles too
I'd say Peace Walker is pretty main line
Portable Ops also sets some story beats for later but maybe a little less so
oh yes, peace walker too... but its not like youre missing out on much not playing it xP
Peace Walker is the bridge between 3 and 5
I'd say you'd be missing an entire arc for Snake and the introduction of many things by skipping it
portable ops too but that's better off emulated because you're going to go insane trying to play it without a turbo mode switch
the gameplay is very lacking
...really?
It's virtually the same as MGS4 but on PSP so it's gonna be awkward
Anything Kojima-directed can probably be considered mainline relatively safely.
Portable Ops is a bit of an interesting one; it's story-relevant, but I'm not sure if Kojima actually directed that one.
PS3 HD collection Peace Walker is the way to play it
yes, and simplified in all aspects including level design and whatnot.. its also very repetitive
I thought it was nice cause it was basically mgsv before mgsv
PSP games aged really bad because of the console limitation imposed on game design.
Small levels and really compromised control schemes
Portable Ops is far more simple than Peace Walker, all things considered Peace Walker is actually pretty damn good for a PSP
So we'll see
nonetheless im super excited to replay the entire series once the PC collection drops (and also try out some new games because its coming with AC!D and I think some other spinoffs)
A lot of people don't consider Portable Ops canon because muh Kojima but it really is
It sets up the whole idea of Outer Heaven for Snake
Like, you can fix those limitations but you need to do more than just porting them, you need to work on them, and no fucking way Konami does anything of the sort
kojima said some of portable ops is canon.. but it doesnt really matter what someone else thinks of it, if you want the story to be canon then just have it be canon xP
Like I said PS3 HD Peace Walker is the way to go
They ''fix'' the controls for this version and somewhat remaster the visuals which is nice but obviously it's still a PSP game
its still pretty rough for an at-home game you sit down to play
The most notorious thing is Snake's face having absolutely zero emotions
also peacewalkers "true" ending is horrible. you need to idle and do a bunch of repetitive fetch quests in levels youve already played
In PW they did go with the comic style cutscenes right? That was a good choice that got around the limitations of the console
never was a fan of them but they do look nice
Indeed; personally, I think that Portable Ops definitely makes positive contributions to the overall storyline.
My memory of the specifics is somewhat fuzzy, but I seem to recall there being some continuity issues? Something about the Gray Fox's origin being changed?
i like how peacewalker looks in-engine tho so i actually wouldve prefered rendered cutscenes
Yeah, the cutscenes in PW alternate from in-engine to a motion comic style
the only thing i remember being important about PO is info about revolver ocelot and gray fox
They weren't amazing but I guarantee that they were leagues better than whatever else you could fit on a PSP disc at the time
its still an awesome metal gear solid story tho
Using 3d
I really like the grafix and lighting in this game
id love to see a game made in this specific 'aesthetic'
There's some slight contradictions with the backstory of Gray Fox in MG2-PO-MGSV but it's minor stuff that you could easily just squeeze in an explanation for
nothing too major there
Well, then let me tell you about this video game called “Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops”. You’ll love the aesthetic in that one.
lol ya
portable ops looks good too
Portable Ops really doesn't feel nice to play unfortunately
its just simpler mgs3 tho (graphics wise)
I think it's interesting seeing Portable Ops and Peace Walker being in the same console because you can not only see what the console was capable of after devs knew how to fully utilize it but also because PO uses the same MGS3 style gameplay where it was almost a transitional style between the classic stealth of MGS1-2 and the more action oriented third person style of MGS4-5
For the type of games that these two are which these two go for more of a mission based base building style, Peace Walker is way more fun to actually play
The only issue was the clunky controls that gave you permanent claw hand but with fixed controls and an actual second joystick it's a pretty solid experience
random thought. I need a mod for factorio that replaces biters with changelings
Yeah we commented on this a little earlier
might make me hop back in actually
this game is really fun and it has been on life support with a small playerbase for a while now
giant list of patch notes
Listen, after years of nothing this might as well be huge
What year is it?
I wonder if it's realistic to think this has anything to do with microsoft, a patch this big would have been in the works for months and they technically just now finalised the purchase
I have my doubts but it could be
That said why spin a PTR if they don't want to actually test shit?
So some content must be coming right? By necessity
Oh nevermind the patch is arriving on the PTR, i though they were adding a PTR, so it could just be a one time thing
It's not huge changes or updates, it's minor fixes and such but still it's crazy that it just came out of nowhere
Perfectly possible for this to have been cooked up after or during the purchase but I don't know if it has much to do with it
Yeah seemed like UI stuff and a bunch of balance changes
Though I wonder why now
Microsoft Money maybe lets them support it a bit longer?
IDK I don't think it'll get revitalised personally, but maybe they have some plans, maybe give people access to some heroes and items if you link your gamepass acount.
And they wanted to make sure the game was in shape for when that happens
I mean whether or not it does is entirely dependant on how much they plan to actually update and support the game in the future
I've wanted to come back to HOTS for a while because it's a legitimately really fun and well done moba and to be fair it does still have a playerbase
It's not big but you will get matches fairly consistently
So it's not dead dead fortunately
Does Microsoft have a Moba?
I know they do partner with Riot so they do have one on the Xbox client but it's not quire the same thing as having one you own
I don't think so
the only big mobas I can think of are Dota and LoL and they've dominated ever since their inception pretty much
League is linked with XBox Game Pass, that is all I think
HOTS never got as big but the number of people who did play said very good things about it and I remember liking it a lot, it's optimized for maximum fun
Dungeons of Eternity, a VR game bankrolled by Meta for the Quest, is basically Diablo / a roguelike for VR. With coop multiplayer, local and online!
Just tried it and it's actually.. really fun.
I guess they own the Crash Bandicoot moba thing now? lol
I guess technically Pokemon does have that mobile moba thing
Microsoft does have a moba now, Heroes of the Storm.
League with Game Pass lets you play every champion, kind of like Dota 2.
I remember my first time playing Dota and realizing all champs are unlocked by default
I was like did.... did the game glitch out? I don't have to spend 15k hours or hundreds of dollars to unlock the basic game roster?
Okay so...Super Mario Bros Wonder? Has the best damn Bowser fight I have ever seen. Period.
oh god i remember when this was the thing https://store.steampowered.com/app/252330/Slender_The_Arrival/

Omg, I remember this game long time ago
It s awesome that they made a remake
The graphics are so realistic
And The Slender Man it s so creppy
This character design looks awfully familiar
Ha yep
They released a sequel too
They have a bunch of different Legally Distinct™️ characters
aww that's so cute
Now remake all of AoE 2 in Skyrim
Listen for how funny this is, I'm like pretty sure this is definitely not the kind of game we allow to be posted in here
Huh, thought it was just a clicker game. I didn't actually investigate further

We love to see you prestige players compete for the highest scores and find better and better strategies. We want to keep this a fair and fun competition, so it is important that everyone plays on equal terms.
Please understand that your runs might be flagged as inadmissible or might get deleted, if it seems like you are using cheat tools or exploits.
We define exploits as anything that provides you a tangible benefit in your prestige run that is not intended through normal gameplay means. This includes things like savegame editing or viewing, excessive reloading, using mods that are not whitelisted or intentional and repeated use of bugs.
You might get permanently barred from competing on the usual leaderboards, if your run appears to have made significant use of cheats or exploits.
If you are unsure about whether something is considered illegal, please ask on our Discord or via e-mail at [email protected]. You can always appeal to us, if you got flagged wrongly.
Have fun!```
Apparently, it's not allowed for you to look at your save file
Your own save file on your own computer
That seems entirely reasonable for a competition
Why?
I thought that was in general for a second
Because it can provide you with information you aren't supposed to have
And was like wtf
I bet they ban reading the game's memory too
Also your own memory on your own computer
They should provide me with that information instead of barring it
I believe games in general are better the more information they expose to the player, as long as it's not presented in a manner that overwhelms them.
Many games would be wholly defeated by such a scheme.
"don't cheat" is not an unreasonable ask.
If it's not supposed to be a game of perfect information, granting yourself perfect information is cheating.

I do wish every game had quick saving though
I mean you can look at it, you just can't if you want to qualify for the scoreboard.
Wait, no way you think this is true
You play randomisers, where the whole point is to shuffle stuff around so you don't know where it is
No, the whole point of randomizers is to randomize. I have just as much fun when I play with a spoiler log than without, and I only refrain from reading it when I'm playing with others out of courtesy to other people
Do you play souls games with a guide that tell you in advance where enemies, bosses and items are?
No judgment if you do btw, some people prefere it that way
I did for two yeah
Usually I don't find that I need it
I do however look at the save files of games I own to satisfy my own curiosity about how they're architected
Would the game be better if it did provide you that info in advance, in your opinion?
Yeah!
The challenge of the game is not in the surprises that it throws at you, but in the thinking it takes to figure out how to handle each of them, so whether they're shown to you or told to you doesn't especially matter
I just realised I could never marry you, we are too incompatible.
I would probably never play a souls game if it did that
I don't play them for the challenge, I play them for the exploration, it's the reason I can't handle games that give you a big map with a list of activities to do in those places that you know before getting there
Or rather I can stomach them but it's a burden not a plus when they do that
That's okay, a lot of people are like that and I understand they like different things than me
That's why a lot of games make the amount of information you get configurable
I kinda hate when they do that, because often, when they let you hide information they show by deafult, they don't have other ways to guide you there
The trick of a game with good exploration is not hiding stuff, but trick you into believing you discovered something while the game guided you there subtly enough that you didn't notice
I mostly play exploration games so I can see cool stuff
I saw this video earlier talking about an interesting puzzle game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZYAew_4tsc
Mosa Lina is an innovative take on immersive sims, where your problem-solving tools are picked at random. It's the next entry in a series of indie game recommendations called "Weekender".

It's a puzzle game where the levels are designed without knowing which tools the players have, because players have access to a randomized set of three tools for each level
A Hostile Interpretation Of Immersive Sim DesignThis game is a response to the current trend of Immersive Sim design, where every ability is perfectly suited to solve a specific problem in the game. In order to counter this "Lock and Key" philosophy, Mosa Lina is aggressively random. (Quick note: This does NOT mean that the game has proc-gen. To...

That is interesting
This is interesting, but personally, I'd rather they gave me every tool for every level, and then gave me a bonus for using it with a specific subset of them
I like when games are designed knowing in advance what tools a player has
It's why I probably like Sekiro more than any other From game
They know exactly what they have, so they can design much more tightly for it
Instead of a more classic souls where you could show up with a big sword, or with a tiny dagger, and the game has to work for both
The video recommends https://store.steampowered.com/app/1497440/COCOON/ as the opposite: A tightly designed game where the whole experience is tailored for you

Of the two, I find Cocoon more interesting!
I heard very good things about it, right now I have my sights set on Chants of Sennar and Ghostrunner 2, so probably it'll wait until I got and finished those two
And those 2 will wait until I finish Cyberpunk expansion anyway
Chants of Sennar is one game that I do admit would not work if I knew what words meant what ahead of time
Tunic is another big one
In which a main mechanic is hiding and revealing information
I think Tunic is a fine game without any hidden information because the core gameplay loop is fun and the world is interesting
Chants of Sennar relies completely on the hidden information
I think it would be like a 7/10 instead of a 10/10 tho
if you had the manual in plain english at the start
I also had another one but then it slipped my mind...
Oh yeah, Return of the Obra Dinn
I'm not interested in that one because I find the graphics intolerably ugly
But! I am planning to play another game with hidden information very soon
La-Mulana 2 features sprawling ancient ruins, mind-boggling mysteries, untold numbers of items, and terrible enemies combining to form what is possibly the perfect Metroidvania-style "archaeological ruin exploration action game".In La-Mulana 2, you take on the role of Lumisa Kosugi - daughter of the previous title’s hero - as she explores the an...

They take a bit to get used to, I think it's unique enough to get past that but I wish there was the option of a less headache inducing graphic
La Mulana 2 is hard with or without hidden information, but this time I'm going to give it a try without looking anything up and see how far I can get before I'm too frustrated to continue
World of Horror is a game that looks very much like Return of the Obra Dinn, but the graphics are magically better https://store.steampowered.com/app/913740/WORLD_OF_HORROR/
The Old Gods are reawakening, clawing their way back into a world that’s spiraling into madness. Heard good things about it, it's just not my genre despite my avatar
I can't explain why I like it
La Mulana I mean
Yeah
La Mulana 2 has more quality of life stuff which is why I'm not playing 1
1 is too punishing
I actually don't really like Metroidvania that much, HK is more the exception than the rule
What genres do you like best?
Souls games are up there for sure.
Do you like Action RPGs in general or just Souls games?
In general games with good exploration is where I gravitate, it's why HK won me over, it's why I liked Subnautica a lot despite being a survival, etc.
It tends to be the thing that get me to like a genre I usually don't fuck with
What about Morrowind?
Listen, I played it a bit sometimes in 2006, I thought it was ugly as sin, and never came back
True!
Good story and character work can also hold my interest, it's a bit rarer tho.
Mostly because games are not often very good at it
What's a game with good story and characters but poor exploration that you like a lot?
FFXIV easy
It's a MMO, there is basically no worthwhile exploration
Persona 5 for a more recent example
Really? I don't play a lot of MMOs but one I've played a lot is Guild Wars 2 and it has a lot of exploration.
Witcher 3 also had pretty bad exploration IMO, not that bad tho, at least the markers were "?" so you didn't exactly know what you'd find there
GW2 is probably the best at that from what I played
for MMOs
They put a lot more emphasis on their overworld
It's kind of uncommon for MMOs, they tend to steamline the overworld experience a bit too much for it to feel worthwhile usually, and FFXIV isn't an exception
That makes sense
these are interesting comments because I like metroidvanias "for the exploration"
(yeah, W3's not good at it, but mostly for the same reasons most "open worlds" are not good at it)
Yeah, it's why Elden Ring was a surprise
I was very worried when I learned it was Open World
To be clear, I don't think that metroidvania have bad exploration, I am actually unsure why I have trouble enjoying them.
and vice versa, we can't figure out why I bounce so hard off certain soulslikes
I do think that some tend to have pretty samey rooms, and look very gamey, which prevent me from immersing myself.
The 2d ant farm look bothers me in some of those games too, with the grid system from metroid for rooms.
ant farm, that's a good way to describe it
I actually like those maps but I get what you mean
Lol ant farm
(and Axiom Verge was too samey)
It doesn't bother me in every game tho, Ender Lilies I liked it, and same as in HK
Also I'm just probably worse at them, because my brain doesn't work that well in 2d, which diminishes my enjoyment
though I guess the 3D Metroid (and J:FO/S) maps are technically more ant farm-shaped
The games I end up liking are the ones in which I like the rest well enough to become good enough to start enjoying myself
Probably
I assume Gen means the way the 2D Metroids and Blasphemous render their maps as a grid of tiles, where many rooms are one-tile tall hallways or one-tile-wide vertical climbs
When you look at a metroidvania map, it looks like a bunch of square rooms connected by passages
Not unlike a section of an ant farm
I didn't even know you could do this https://i.imgur.com/3sBmdSu.png
