Better get on that Fortnite Battlepass. They need the money. /s
“For a while now, we've been spending way more money than we earn, investing in the next evolution of Epic and growing Fortnite as a metaverse-inspired ecosystem for creators,” Sweeney wrote in the letter.
uuggghhhhhhh
At least what they mean with meta verse is just a gaming world with a lot of crossover
Rather than NFT hellscape
"We tried to make Fortnite another Roblox but it isn't going well"
I mean Fortnite is making a lot of money so that probably went pretty well, it's a lot of other places that aren't
I think it was said in the recent layoff news that "the creator program isn't making the expected amount of money"
we proved that free-to-play without pay-to-win can work at scale
you know what? i never considered this, he's absolutely right here
i still hate fortnite but thats an excellent point
- Fortnite Creator profit margins not as big as Fortnite was
It's kind of baked into the game mode so not giving them huge props but they did manage to not fuck with it
I'm not saying Fortnite is doing bad, but their effort to make it another Roblox doesn't seem to be going very well
Warzone fucked with it
I am not sure that's the objective, I would have to look more closely into the creator program and how much it takes from Roblox
Rather than, let's say, Blizzard games custom maps
Well I was just using Roblox for a general term, so I don't think they are specifically benchmarking Roblox
Anyhow it seems their effort to make Fortnite more than what it was seems to be not going very well and affecting their business
Probably not like "oh no Epic is going to die" level but about "well shit that's not really great is it" level
To be nitpicky, they aren't saying they are losing money on the creator program, just that they hoped they'd make more from it than they are.
I guess so, hard to tell what is really going on inside Epic
Please elaborate when uploading a screenshot
Like the finest hunting dog, this Chesapeake Smart SMG will dispose of your enemies with precision. Equipped with an Iconic mod, it grants increased movement speed on kills and dismemberments as well as greater armor penetration. The faster you move, the more damage it deals - and all bonuses remain active as long as you’re swapping between Barghest weapons.
Also, the next part of the NUS Infiltrator drop is live, boots this time
Tetris effects are weird
something outside managed to make a noise just similar enough to the warning squeak of Hollow Knight's divebombing enemies that I had the sudden urge to evade
ah yes, the Cheapskate SMG
theres literally a disposable machine pistol you can buy from a vending machine
i remember in 2017 i was obsessed with BotW, and every time i saw an incline plane i would be like "oh i can paraglide down that"
oh
im still really bummed that the Arkham Trilogy for Switch was delayed 😔
It can be frustrating when that happens
That's why I always advocate against getting excited for games that are not already here
Any game can be delayed or turn out bad. The world is complex and unpredictable. Trust only in what you have for as long as you have it
SMRPG has reached the point where the release date is too close to get delayed in a normal circumstance
Super Mario Bros Wonder is soon
yippeee !
only a little over 2 weeks away
and then i can play that
Wonder is definitely not going to be delayed

Trust none, not even yourself
Apparently Sony fired the Naughty Dog devs
Are they doing anything rn?
Ever since Jim Ryan stepped down, well, that's the first thing I've heard of them doing that's major
is the Pac Man Museum+ game worth the money

Naughty Dog has reportedly suffered a round of layoffs, with the troubled The Last of Us multiplayer spin-off said to be “on ice”.
T...
Last of us had multiplayer?
Apparently. I guess even with Jim Ryan gone, I guess Sony is still gonna make dumb decisions
Its not that surprising I guess. The pc port of 1 was awful
Idk if they’ll even do the second
These companies don't care. They'll never care. As long as they keep their money, they earn more money, that's all they care about. I'm hoping I hear about an appealing indie game rising to stardom again. Like things such as FNAF, Among Us, and Splitgate for example have done throughout the last decade
So is Phantom Liberty like an add-on/expansion to the base Cyberpunk or is it like a 'new' game?
Not quite clear on that
Still haven't gotten into Cyberpunk proper even though I hear that the actual game is actually really really good because I still don't know in what state the game is in
It is an expansion.
Its an expansion. The 2.0 update also added a lot of features and updates to the base game too
It slots in alongside the other major storylines

Is the game on an okay state or are some of the mods still ''necessary''? Because I remember that there were a bunch of mods people downloaded to pretty much fully realize the game asides from just making it work properly
With missing additional features and what not, that sort of thing
Very happy to announce our new game Fantastic Haven. Imagine Zoo Tycoon, but with magical creatures and diplomacy 🐲🧙

i heard abuot this, looks fun
The game is in an excellent state
Playing it without mod so far, and I mean, it's not perfect, but it's like one of the best games in the genre.
They revamped loot to not suck ass
They revamped crafting to not suck ass
And they revamped perks to not suck ass
Oh and also they did revamp cyberware to be cooler than it was (it was cool before, now it's cooler)
Of course the structure of the game did not change, and while the writing was stronger before, it's still largely a linear story with not that many decisions that affect the path you take
i have some problems with its current state but i have been enjoying cyberpunk while i've been playing it
Also driving isn't terrible
Some of the high end cars still feel a bit floaty but generally better on the whole line

oh i dont drive often
but then i only recently found out about the 3rd person driving camera and that made the experience 100 times better
I guess if I ever find Cyberpunk on sale I'll pick it up
thats fair lol
It's not the game that was promised, night city doesn't have many activities you can engage in purely for immersive purpose, like you can't go into a bowling alley, go play a BD just for fun, or go and have a game of pool, it's not this hyper immersive sim, it's largely a good RPG Action game with an open world that tells some stories in it and a few side activities.
You have some races, you can steal some cars, you have some fighting ring you get to beat the shit out of other dudes.
i think i have a DRM free version of the game, from gog
As for Phantom Liberty, it does a bit more to adress some of the original game criticism
The side gigs have more outcomes
And the main story from what I understood have more consequential choices
what is BD
I guess whenever I do pick it up I'll still check out any of the mods people usually use, I imagine people probably use mods to add all that sort of thing to make the game feel a bit more immersive and less bare bones (bare bones compared to what was advertised originally anyways)
i remember watching someone play it once and the cars looked weird and floaty but that's all i really know
and also Keanu Reeves is there
In cyberpunk if you have a BD implant you can record a BD, which not only records the visual but your thoughts, feelings, and sensations you experience, since it jacks up right to your brain.
And then someone else can slot this recording and experience what you experienced
I'm not super hung up on ''your choices don't really matter that much'' because any game that works like that I assume they don't matter anyways
I think the last game I played where I had choices to make and I felt like they REALLY mattered was Katana Zero
That game is awesome
Yeah my main problem with the game not having that, it's that it was marketed as having those things
Which is bad
I think the game in its current state is legit one an incredible game
can you go to slick futuristic arcades
Gameplay wise is easly the best game CDPR has done
braindances are full immersion recordings. you experience a recording of what the person was doing at the time, and their emotions. the first BD you see in the game, the person you're experiencing ||gets shot and dies|| (its not really a spoiler but the experience is unique and i dont want to ruin it if you havent experienced it)
Bluray Disks
Funnily enough there are a few arcades but you only play old style arcade games
that sounds awesome !
yeah its its current state its closer to a cyberpunk RPG GTA game
yeah you can play tennis and stuff
true.... but none of it really means anything
On that respect it's still really more of a deus EX with a relatively shallow open world on top, but it's still very very cool.
Night city might be shallow mechanic wise, but it's incredibly cool for art direction and atmospthere
Also occasionally a radio plays "I Really Want to Stay At Your House" and you have to leave the premise or shoot the radio
Or cry I guess
Or maybe all 3
I love how different it is compared to Edgerunners where the very first scene(s) you see or at least during the first episodes are a bunch of people in and a pov of 'adult' BDs
If that ever happens to me I'm jumping out the car
The game is so fucking bleak, with all the bugs ruining my immersion the first time I played it, it didn't really sink in
i did stream cyberpunk when it came out in manechat
did not realise char creation was going to start you completely naked
as in, completely naked
does it have a happy ending at least
There are no happy endings on Night City
I didn't finish it yet
oh !
But I kinda doubt it
It's a cyberpunk world everything sucks
I know it has multiple endings so maybe some are better than others
at least there is the shrimp lady
are these shrimp fresh
I still can’t get over how Mario looks like in this. Just a small creature
859
his model in RPG reminds me of his Mario 64 model
or the Mario World sprite yeah lol
apparently in Galaxy they made Mario even shorter / rounder than usual because being almost a sphere allowed the physics to be simpler and more intuitive
So
he is pretty round in Galaxy now that i think about
Is his profile height based on super form or small mario
well according to the movie small Mario is the default
So he'd be pretty tall when he's Super Mario
yes
also I just checked really quick now that I remembered this game
Seems like the DLC is still being worked on
but that's okay cuz it's free
This game is seriously so awesome I'm tempted to replay it for the fun of it
Deus Ex allows you to play basketball or pool in comparison
Sign him up for the Knucks!!
lol
Look at that, Epic being shady!
What a surprise...
I'm sure they just got caught up in the shuffle after acquiring Mediatonic, but two years
Ah, they bought it. Yeah things like that can fall apart during acquisitions, especially when they’re small like that. Actively bringing it up with them to get it fixed is the way to go.
There's been a remastered version for Hatoful Boyfriend, I think
Rumors spreading around Metroid fandom that Metroid Prime 4 marketing is being developed at Nintendo and Retro now.
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity." as they say
and this is very much a case of stupidity, i think
Yeah, I’d bet it’s a simple oversight that they’d be happy to correct.
For once I'm willing to be reasonable in my unending hatred, lol
Just to remind people, nothing that Epic ever did is nearly as sketchy as Valve CSGO enabling and benefitting from black market kids skin gambling.
It does plenty of sketch in Fortnite, but to my knowledge nothing even close to that
Can you imagine if Fortnite skins were in lootboxes, you had to spend money to open them, and then could gamble the skins on 3rd party sites?
Yeah, that was pretty bad but I don't think they were that aware of it until it blew up
I don't buy it for a microsecond
And even if they werent, it's still a thing that you can do
It's not like they made it impossible
Do they even ban people for doing it?
Yeah, they really screwed up with that
We got a transformer like skin i doubt wed get mlp though
I know that but it's funny. Would they be EQG girls with Pony backblings or anthropomorfic ponies shudder

More layoffs
This is not the first QA employees being let go, makes me worry that they are either farming this out to cheap labour in other countries or going to try and use AI...
Wouldnt be first time. Tlou2 had a notoriously bad crunch development
What’s that waving at Tiny Vu? Oh! It must be the crab, one of the three new mobs that wants to join Minecraft! The crab makes its home in the mangrove swamp and has one enormous claw! It doesn't just use it for waving at players (hello!) - this giant claw is actually very special. If a player manages to find one, they can use it to place blocks...
I believe its crab, seagull, and jellyfish this year based on leaks
Unless it’s a giant enemy one that I have to hit its weak spot to deal massive damage I’m not interested.
eugh, seagulls. rats with wings.
i've had a beef with seagulls ever since one stole a taco from me.
NO SEAGULLS
PLS NO SEAGULLS
UMINEKO WAS BAD ENOUGH
(Mine? Mine?)
i dont think they'd do mlp characters as skins unless they were anthro/equestria girls
at most maybe have the mane six as pet backblings on like a chair or something
the hasbro deal overall goes for like the next 5 years though
So anything could happen
maybe for a g4 anniversary event or something?
I've been playing Umineko: When They Cry and the title is in reference to an animal known as Umineko (black tailed seagull)
VERY FUN if traumatising game
They should do a cell shaded g1 Optimus Prime and Megatron
surprised they didnt do Arcee yet at all
https://gaming.amazon.com/gp/amzn1.pg.game.3986d52c-da26-4e31-adcb-7bd7cfa39df5 gun if you have prime
for phantom liberty
If only they could do our pones as characters. Now that I would buy into lol
overall pet backblings would probably work better
cause then you could just use them with other skins you own
would make for some funny images too
like goku with applejack on his back, darth vader with rainbow dash on his back, etc
Pre-orders are open for the exclusive 1/12 scale Dominic Santiago and Queen Myrrah.

Myrrah looks so good!
Im downloading Warhammer 40k: Darktide on my xbox
Have fun with it.
I've wanted to play it for a while but i don't have a pc yet and it's now on game pass so I'll finally get to play it
I'm not sure where they are on the update line, but PC did get the class rework today, so if that hasn't happened yet, give it time.
Well the game just came out on xbox today so id assume they would have that
want to try The Talos Principle 2's demo (the full game comes out November 3)? Enter this in your browser's address bar: steam://install/2312690
That's a great way to make something sound like a scam
it is 100% legit (and nothing bad can happen if you try to enter that URL in a browser anyway – at worst, you don't have the steam:// protocol associated and nothing will happen)
the demo isn't listed on Steam, so you have to do it this way
proof
I've installed it and might give my impressions this weekend
Yeah i know it just sort of sounded like the typical "want this for free? Just click this link" scam
it is an UE5 title too, so it is fairly demanding. You do have settings to tailor it better to lower spec PCs but don't expect to run it well on 10 year old hardware like the original
it has Lumen if you max out GI and reflection quality 🙂
See yall in 2036 for UE7
why wait for UE7 when you can wait for Godot
??What
"Waiting for Godot" is a famous play
And Godot is the name of a game development engine that competes with UE and Unity
oh
Waiting for Godot ( GOD-oh) is a play by Irish playwright Samuel Beckett in which two characters, Vladimir (Didi) and Estragon (Gogo), engage in a variety of discussions and encounters while awaiting the titular Godot, who never arrives. Waiting for Godot is Beckett's translation of his own original French-language play, En attendant Godot, and ...
Huh, haven’t heard of it before
I'm just a college student I don't know things about stuff
Funny thing is Godot never shows up
Rude of him
It's a very unique play and worth at least reading about

Well that's good
oh i thought it was already over lol
No more Splatoon 1 😦 I won't see funni clips anymore
Don't forget that this is manechat
Apparently Nintendo is going to work with Switch until 2025. Opinions vary about how to interpret this, but it is likely that they will overlap the lifespan of Switch and its successor.
Mhmm, Nintendo always overlaps the lifespans of their consoles.
*Almost always
It is common, for about a year or two there were only 5 PS5 games due to overlap.
I love the way all the Spanish VAs for Blasphemous say EL MILAGRO
maybe this is some weird bias from not knowing the language as well, but it feels like a lot of their line readings are more dramatic while the English ones are more somber

LinusTechTips on the left on that image
That's gonna be so weird calling the 3DS and Wii U completely retro by next year
Makes sense. Wii u technically was supported at the switches launch
The game clearly wasn't finished
On top of being online only being one of the dumbest decisions for it
Ill only play it whenever an offline or singleplayer mode gets added
I just want the old p2p matchmaking they had vefore
I want an offline mode so I can mod the game again
dont think its possible with pd3 as is
You can play mp modded payday 2 tho?
Well of course it wasn't finished and was broken. What else is there to expect from a AAA game developer with the mindset that they know they can release their product broken because they know they can update later and try to do damage control in 2023?
It seems they were also very close to bankruptcy until someone swooped into push them over the line, so that's probably changed some decisions and plans and schedules
Yeah they were basically bailed out
Yeah thats because its like peer to peer I think
Isn't PD3 server-side mostly?
you can't mod a server sided game
Yeah
You would think a company who made two amazing games would know how to make a third
Oh well, payday 2 is still a lot of fun
Mega i played warzones ground war mode yesterday
Those are words
Is it sad a call of duty game has a better battlefield mode than 2042
In that it actually works
I don't care about any of those games
Fair enough
I'm sorry, but if you're one of those companies that honest to God doesn't care about their fans and just want the money and put BS purchases garnered towards kids and new players into your game and not put any effort into improving or fixing it, then I'm sorry, but you don't deserve a spot in the industry. Greed is part of what's wrong with AAA games now
Uhh
Battlefield 2042 has full bot matches though >:3
ok
I can't believe they are already releasing the sequel to the hit series Armored Core
A pc port would have been nicer but oh well
Honestly thats the worst part about that generation of consoles
It'd also be nice if it was cheaper since its just a re release
the ps3/360 era felt like the peak of developers shafting PC, but its not old enough that emulation is super reliable yet.
I still can't play most of my favourite ps3 era games on emulators :(
and its kinda funny watching the update logs talk about how games that have working PC ports like GTAV are receiving so much support to work on the emulator but games that don't are getting ignored comparatively lol
Who would emulate the ps3 port of GTAV? For what reason? Just play it on your PC its a better version of the game!

ah, time travel achievement validation
resi 5 is fun btw
The real paradox here is that 0.3% of players somehow completed 3-3
Without completing 3-2
Well, their last game was a complete failure (the walking dead,) and even payday 2 had several major issues at launch that didn't get fixed for years. I'm honestly pleasantly surprised that most of the major issues in pd3 are glaringly obvious technical ones, and not subtle gameplay ones that will never get addressed
Really? https://i.imgur.com/aHgib3Z.png
This is about as much of a mood detriment as you getting shot

Fixing those games helps other games run, because overall accuracy goes up
He's a noble, of course he's picky
He got shot in his dignity, have some respect
I almost forgot about this guy
murders
oh wow I actually needed that, I think that just got me the hat I need to play half the blocked stuff in my AHiT
I always think of Marmu as a girl
I figured it was ambiguous
of course, I always forget where that pit trap to deepnest is
I just did most of queen's garden backwards, found the passage to fungal wastes, and immediately fell down it
this feels like a trap
oh yeah, you can meet him in two different parts of eastern Deepnest, so rando lets you meet him twice
Yep!
dreamnails Zote
I'm almost disappointed to learn he really is that dumb
Or he's just playing dumb and is one of the few creatures who can talk to you when you dreamnail them
Zote is just playing 12D chess with you
btw, Archipelago support for Ender Lilies just hit open alpha status, so I might be playing that next time
I'm still waiting for that game to go down to a reasonable price

That thumbnail looks super fake but I actually do wonder why I seem to find so many issues with character models and faces on newer games compared to older games
I know it has something to do with the baked lighting and texture work of older games vs the modern ones that mostly use a lot of real time lighting stuff which can make models look super flat but it seems like something they'd figure out how to prevent but it happens a lot
like holy shit
Nah the thumbnail's pretty accurate to what they showed in the vid. They used a few different tools to get it like that and it's purely based off of videos found online rather than anything ripped from a game
Oh of course they're using ai
Yeah a lot of the comments express my issues with the video watching through it pretty well, but anyways I still wonder why devs don't seem to include more baked lighting into their stuff to make up for the things real time lighting can't do
Time and money and resources and whatnot. Needing a minimum threshold of performance if they implement that stuff which they might not be able to do given their release time frame
I guess so, I noticed a lot of people ''''complaining'''' about the downgrade, and I understand there's a lot that goes into game development especially if you're trying to make a game more stable or be able to run on specific specs so you pretty much have to downgrade but it's pretty noticeable
Mostly with games that try super hard to go for realism and don't really quite nail the lighting and models, at least after a downgrade like that, for Starfield it's even worse because of the weird facial expressions which is a pretty huge part about making characters look believable and alive
Doesn't matter how much you ''fix'' the face if the animations are janky and unnatural it's going to look like a reptilian in a flesh suit trying to fit in
Indeed
I can't stop myself from bringing up SH3 for discussions like these because it's easily the best looking PS2 game and still looks fantastic especially when talking about expressions and models
fucking incredible looking game for 2003
this game is as old as me
You whippersnapper
I mean, let's be honest, the faces in Starfield look fine.
If you don't like the game I doubt that making more high res faces is gonna change your opinion on it.
I'm not really singling out Starfield or talking about what the game is like I'm just commenting on something I notice with modern games
I've never had a strong opinion on a video game's human face fidelity, which I assume is related to the fact that I'm bad at facial recognition irl
same lol
I think it's definitely a value added if it's good
But it's also not a deal breaker unless it's like, really bad
Like I said the bigger problem is more facial animations rather than ''bad'' faces
We all cried at undertale and that's like, as low as you can get as facial fidelity
Definitely
That doesn't count though, it's on the other side of the uncanny valley
Yeah I'm just saying you don't need to have lifelike facial fidelity to tell a story that connects well
Yeah but I don't think any of us were arguing that
It's something that can help for sure but not something you need
I could if y'all want me to
I wasn't specifically talking about you, more a comment about the "we fixed faces in games" article
Video yeah
Crewmate
like in 2013
IMPSITER
If Starfield had higher fidelity faces it'd be the exact same game
I think it's totally fair to talk about 'fixing faces' when the game actively puts them up in your bussiness like this and makes a big deal out of having good visuals
At least for me
that looks pretty good to me
Yeah like, I see nothing wrong with it
Well if you are fixing something, the implication is that there was something wrong with it
But I'm not the one talking about fixing the ones on the video are the ones talking about fixing something
man this is a silly converstion
It is a silly conversation
I just think it's inconsequential
To a decent extent, I also changed my mind about Bethesda using an old engine.
I don't think it matters, very few of the problems in the game stem from the engine, the game plays pretty well, all of the problems I would classify as game design problems.
Not hard to figure out, money matters more to them than you people ever will.
I think Starfield looks quite good, aside of questionable color grading choices (which kill the image's contrast)
a game doesn't have to use cutting-edge graphics features to look nice, even if it aims for realism
Its a really good game if you went into it expecting a bethesda style game
I think there were some minor changes that would have made it much more enjoyable, and that bethesda isn't really that good at delivering a tight product mechanic wise sadly, because there is a lot of potential in the game.
But all the problems that tie to the engine, were much less pronounced in this one, so I don't think it's as much of a problem as I thought it was
They clearly just cooked this one some more and it turned out much better
It’s like everyone got amnesia and forgot how bad Cyberpunk launched originally. Basic game systems were absolutely broken, missing asset boxes, extremely buggy missions, and high instability.
I remember
I played cyberpunk at launch and it had none of those problems.
Except it did crash once every few hours.
Doesn’t justify a broken game sure, but dear god forbid a broken game launches in today’s date.
During my recent playthrough I did find a couple of bugged missions still, but it was a much less common experience
(apparently the periodic crashing was due to a memory leak)
Also they just released what is basically a rework of all of its systems, I'd expect a couple of new bugs to pop up
I bug any video game, so no game is safe from my grasp. Starfield included.
I remember it was actually removed digitally for a bit outside of steam due to performance issues
Sony removed it because it did not work at all on the base PS4
But outside of last-gen base consoles it worked fine.
I'm pretty sure that's false.
The game ran okay on PC, but also lots of graphic glitches and lot of cut corners
I played through the whole thing on PS5 (which was actually just the PS4 version at the time) and it was fine.
Honestly the worst part was that the systems were just not fun to interact with.
It also worked fine on high-end PCs. And was something of a surprise hit for Stadia due to working great there too.
This was my gripe.
One might argue that it was not fun, but calling it completely broken is massive exaggeration
(except on last gen base consoles where it actually was completely broken)
Let's put it this way, the frequency you ran into bugs was not acceptable.
Oh I managed to break it terribly, its literally a “your mileage may vary”.
It was pretty constant
I don't think I ran into any notable ones.
This is my favourite clip
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZxPjcyNv40
It's like, art
CyberBug 2077 - Viktor says BUG Free :D
Him sliding away is so beautiful
Also Bethesda games have always been buggy.
Doesn’t make it an excuse but its something to not forget.
I just am not liking that now every game must be BG3 or gamers will riot now, that game really came out at the worst possible time.
They told us to not set our expectations to BG3 level, we derided them, but they were right

It’s also incredible how Starfield even runs under the hellish Creation Engine, that is an achievement alright. Even have ladders that you can climb.
lol
Joking aside Starfield could be much better even without citing BG3 as a comparison, the fact that you loot 10 items and your inventory is full, and then your party members keep loot shaming you, was something that was never a good idea.
I found it funny.
took a lot of attempts, but I believe this is this first boss I've ever done out of logic in any rando; she had my dash (and HK lantern) and I had only 3 of the sword upgrades
I found if funny the first few times, now it's just annoying as hell
But yeah it does get annoying.
It's just bad game design in a game about looting shit
Yeah…
And to be clear, BG3 had also a shitty inventory system
So it's not like they did it so much better.
They just let you send stuff to camp whenever which isn't a fix, it's a bandaid, but at least they recognised it was bad
Honestly I’m surprised how much I tend to carry on Starfield.
Its more forgiving than previous bethesda entry titles.
That's a good question
There really isn’t one I think.
i liked BotW/TotK's
The main problem is that there is no definite solution, only solutions that solve most problems.
or Minecraft i guess
Minecraft’s inventory system only works for PC.
Factorio
Use a controller and its just bad.
Yeah the problem with good inventory systems is that they just don't get in the way.
It's rare that you meet one that just enhances the experience
No, Factorio’s one is pretty rough. I tend to get confused often and never use the bottom bar shortcuts as a result.
Second Life. "yeah I have seventeen thousand things in my inventory, what of it?"
(joking. mostly.)

the optimal inventory system depends heavily on how much inventory-ing there is to do in the game
i do !!! i play Bedrock a lot
lots of games have such a small set of items to manage that they can automatically do it all for us and we don't even think of them as having an "inventory system"
SL does have the wild innovation of a search bar in the inventory window. Also a folder hierarchy.
I don't think I can think of a way to make it less confusing without making it just worse
(seventeen thousand things if, if anything, an understatement)
Welcome to UX.
I don't want UX. I want it to be useful
Oh wow, google brought me to this site, I didn't know it existed but it's kind of awesome: https://interfaceingame.com/
one of the fundamental tensions of UX is that the more features you have, necessarily the more clicks/buttons/inputs it takes to perform any and every action; after a certain point the only way to have a smoother UX is to start deleting real features
there's also https://www.gameuidatabase.com/
Does it show off SkyUI or just Skyrim's unmodded interface?
Exactly, and I'd never do that for Factorio
Minecraft's problem is having a bazillion unique items while also wanting to restrict how much and how many kinds you can carry at a time; I don't see any true solution to it besides giving Steve hilarious carry capacity or deleting hundreds of items from the game
the former being what will likely happen
shulker boxes were already a big step in that direction
Fourier transform items
we were supposed to get bundles which were like backpacks but idk what happened to them
You know what, I think I might give the crown to Witcher 3 personally
It's not perfect but after the many patches they made to fix it, the several categories it had really made it pretty good to interact with
It was a terrible inventory system on release but by the time the 2nd expansion arrived it was actually brilliant
i played until after the fetus thing which made me depressed and then dropped it
I did finish W3 and its expansions, but I was very much playing for the story
Being able to transform some items into others makes it possible to have a higher effective carrying capacity and adds a planning element to the inventory
Plus
I feel like I spend a lot of time in W3 inventory compared to gameplay, but not much can be done about it I guess
I had to mod the game for me to like the gameplay
even in something like Deus Ex with its inventory tetris, I spend more time playing
Never played RE4
RE4's inventory system was fun but also really annoying
speaking of Minecraft... another very common and often very good solution to video game inventories is the separation between items that should have some artificial scarcity for gameplay reasons, and items that should not (key items, quest items, etc) and instead go into an infinite bag of holding
You basically had to play Tetris with items to fit as many into the backpack as possible
it's crazy how good that game is
Bag of holding?
I don’t follow.
it's a bag you can put as much stuff as you want in
Minecraft's always been a little weird in having a "survival" element that loses all meaningful challenge after your first several hours in a world, and I don't see much sign of that changing, so I'd recommend they separate their items into stuff that should and should not be scarce and simply give you a creative mode inventory for the latter (e.g. all the aesthetic blocks and items with no special functions)
Minecraft has an item carry limit.
Tap Wizard 2 is an incremental game that's pretty janky but has a very interesting inventory system where every mechanic of the game (except moving) is an item which you can manipulate and sort and put inside other items.
yeah but ixrec was speaking hypothetically
"bag of holding" was originally a literal magical bag from D&D that was simply much bigger on the inside, but it's now a common term for any fictional inventory system (video game or otherwise) that effectively has infinite space yet still allows the character to instantly retrieve whatever item they want
Deus Ex keeps making me drop PS20s so I can eat that bag of soy and beer can on the floor
Yeah no, I didn't appreciate it at the time, but I ended up missing how granularly the items were subdivided in W3 when playing RPGs later.
https://www.gameuidatabase.com/uploads/The-Witcher-3-Wild-Hunt07202020-101519-25237.jpg
This is good
(I'd honestly go so far as to say I'm not sure any items in Minecraft benefit from inventory scarcity, but that's a harder sell)
GOOD LORD HE'S NUDE
the subdivision is good, and sorting options are powerful enough for most situations
He's dressed to kill
these icons remind me too much of MMOs
MMORPGs are RPGs after all
W3 comes up a lot in these discussions because it's such a good and not-that-old example of a "traditional western RPG" before some of the more recent trends (especially streamlining) we usually end up discussing
It is Wednesday and you missed the alert
i didn't miss the alert
It triggered two minutes earlier than it should have
each country has their own emergency policies (which may or may not include an alert system like this), there's no global system for this
afaik the US was the only country testing anything today
at least, my phone did not attempt to deafen me
ok cool
my roommate said something bad was going to happen because of the test
but all that happened was an alarm went off and then it was done
so idk wtf he's talking about
sorry that was rambly
um
how about Super Mario Bros Wonder eh
based on various tweet screenshots i've seen get posted recently, various conspiracy theories and stuff wandering into rule 2 territory
oh
So your roomate might just be a gigantic dumbass
Yeah, there were a bunch of utterly baseless and asinine conspiracy theories going around about the test.
Yus
I'm excited for breakfast tomorrow
who will you play as
This year the game of the year discussion will be interesting.
i will play as Mario or Peach probably
My guess is that at the awards Zelda will take it
Yeah it's one or the other
Arguably RE4 remake deserves a nomination at least
Spiderman 2 if it does well
BG3 will probably take it, I'd bet
my personal goty so far is TotK, but Wonder and Mario RPG Remake might snatch that crown
Can't have that discussion before the year ends
yes you can. the Game Awards are always before the year ends
It's in December
it's been a really solid year
FF16 will probably be on the list too
Yeah but we don't know if Silksong will be out

Hi-Fi Rush too
i completely forgot about FFXVI
everyone did
i also forgot about that game
Hey, FF16 is actually really good
ironically now that I've watched the full FF series retrospective, 16 is the only one I'm seriously interested in playing
Dead Space remake, perhaps?
Starfield too
the only FF im interested in playing is Mario RPG /j
Jesus christ, Hogwarts Legacy was this year?
yup
For the stuff that has yet to come out Alan Wake 2 might do better than expected.
Also Lords of the Fallen
maybe
That's almost surely to be nominated
3rd time's the charm
like many years in this decade, it might as well have been a decade in one year
Oh yeah, Hogwarts Legacy was S tier
or we're just getting old, hard to tell
dead space remake was also great first time I played a remake and truely believed it enhanced the original
Story was alright, but the experience was absolutely lovely
[insert both.gif here]
I'd be a little surprised if its not nominated
DS does have the benefit of being a very "safe" remake, but yeah, they nailed everything
do you think Geoff Keighley plays every game released in a year so he can determine which games get nominated
I thought they were gonna cut out the asteroid segment but they actually made it fun
I don't think any awards show has a process like that
there's too much being released in any medium
why is Geoff just hanging out with Hideo Kojima what the hell
whos gonna sabotage geoff Keighley this time
god i wish that were me
i hope no one
But yeah of top releases this year I'd say TOTK, BG3, Hogwarts are the guaranteed nominations. RE4r and FF16 are likelies
Orthodox rabbi bill clinton
I mean, I unironically hope they get security on point, because at some point you'll get something that's not a relatively harmless prank if they don't
Yep
"Release February 25, 2022"
I know, it feels like everyone's been casually assuming literally everyone else also played ER for several years already
jan/feb releases feel like they were from a year extra ago
Im actually really excited for the game awards this year bc so much quality stuff got released this year
same
Yeah, this year will be hard
I should replay elden ring
I'm surprised that AC6 just kinda dropped off the face of the earth after a couple days
I still gotta play it
I think all of these games did if we weren't talking to people playing them
I think it was too difficult even for elden ringers
I gotta beat starfield still
It's good but also it's a mecha game, not that many people are interested in the genre compared to ER
It still sold as much as a Dark Souls game, which is impressive
I still need to finish AC6
How many people are interested in misery simulators?
I mean I loved Kentucky Route Zero
I wouldn't say that
seriously though I don't know which game Peach is snarking at, there are multiple candidates
I am much more miserable when a game offer no challenge for the runtime of it than playing a souls, so I don't get why it'd be a misery simulator
Im stuck on the chapter 2 final boss in AC6
I don't think Armored Core ever was a franchise that pulled in numbers and generated discussion like the Souls franchise
People just find compelling different experiences
But that doesn't mean it disappeared at all
Blasphemous 2 was also this year but no one besides me talks about it here
Elden Ring in this case
I wanna play it
its just so hard to find time between all these releases
It did pull a HK and release at the worst possible time
I'll definitely play it but it'll be some time
ironically the perfect time for me, but true
You wanna talk about games nobody talks about I was the only one posting about Bomb Rush Cyberfunk here
and that game is incredible
again another game I wanna play but thats also because they brought Hideki Naganuma to do the soundtrack
Don't sleep on the other guest artists
I've also recently ended up in the weird position of watching for randomizer releases, so now some of the games that I played already are effectively new again for me (including one just today)
I aint sleepin but naganuma gets me like

speaking of which, ^this got buried in Starfield talk, and Nire's here now
I have no idea what that is
idk if i even played any indies this year
i might have played a little Isaac towards the beginning of the year but i think that's it
It's been a great year for indie games
what ones have come out
Let's see, what i've played this year... 20 min till dawn, elden ring, persona 4 golden, pyre, wild hearts, vampire survivors, rogue genesia, halls of torment, D4, crab champions, disfigure, BG3, tunic, party animals
And of course WoW and Hearthstone (mostly battlegrounds)
OMG yeah Vampire Survivors !
ive played that
how could i forget
Tcher who is your favourite character
Poe? Garlic guy
OMG SAME
Hi-Fi Rush too
(oh and Titanfall 2 as well)
garlic is so fucking op lmao
And I guess i'm doing another run of cyberpunk what with the xpac
Hi Fi isn't indie that's from Tango Gameworks
Hey, Microsoft is a small indie company
Bomb Rush is indie, I think
I don't really know what Team Reptile has done in the past
Blasph 2 also came out this year too
it is indie, yes
but yeah, Hi-Fi Rush blends in as indie in my mind
good ol' "cartoon = indie" association
it probably tells that AAAs should make more cartoon-looking games. 🙂
Windwaker is my favourite indie game /s
cartoon = indie or nintendo, often both if you include nintendo-likes
does anime count
nope
Hi Fi is extremely well done presentation wise the cel shaded cartoon graphics deceive you into thinking it's indie but then when I played Bomb Rush Cyberfunk I noticed super quickly how these two styles can look so drastically different quality wise
Bomb Rush looks great mind you and I'm sure the lower fidelity look is definitely because of the JSR inspiration
but side to side with Hi Fi it's night and day
"nintendo-likes"???
Mario-likes such as A Hat in Time, Zelda-likes such as Tunic, etc
not a precise category
i didn't know mario had a whole thing
I mean, the early Mario games basically invented the platformer genre
any (non-action, non-puzzle, non-precision) platformer with a lighthearted and whimsical cartoony aesthetic is going to get the comparison
Pizza Tower, Dave the Diver, Brotato, Dredge, Boneraiser Minions, Wildfrost, Blasphemous 2, Luck be a Landlord, 20 Minutes Till Dawn
I'm only aware of two of those lol (three if you count GtG)
Oh and Goodbye Volcano High
edit: three (four)

And that's just the new releases. A lot of indie games enjoy a long tail, and many have been getting very interesting updates this year
Halls of Torment came out in 2023, so did Brotato and Cassette Beasts
Yeah
best song in pizza tower.
I don't own this song. this song belongs to Ronan "Mr Sauceman" de Castel. Pizza Tower belongs to Tour De Pizza.
please don't copyright strike me...
(this is a copy and paste of Gallant Goon's video but this song is incredible anyways)
The game has a killer soundtrack
Also I totally forgot to do this earlier but here's a visual comparison
The low poly low detail look definitely helps when you're doing a lower budget more indie game, Tango had some crazy budget and talent for Hi Fi it looks way too good sometimes
also 808 is still one of the cutest fucking things in videogame history
wish it would come to Switch 😔
look at how cute this fucking thing is
I remember people asking for 808 to become the xbox mascot because she's so cute
thinks of Morgana from P5R
They really should though
As someone who has never played P5 I can't relate
Incredibly expensive
The soundtrack alone is S tier
I'm still waiting for 4 to get discounted
I don't really care about that game personally
Fair enough
it's weird to describe game playing as "productive", but I think I just spent a whole day bouncing between these randomized games until they're nearly all past 50% completion, and I'm pretty sure three of them were closer to 30% when I started
I wanna play

to be fair I would never have seen the Personas if not for Tale
the stories are great, but as games they're not my thing at all
I thought so too when I realized it was turn based, but I enjoyed the gameplay
it is, but I have no interest in those
DtD is technically not an indie game
the only persona game I actually care about is 3
P5 is a bit different from the rest though
Oh it's a subsidiary of Nexon
No it makes perfect sense because it's basically a single player MMO
argh, my leftclaw was at a Tunic puzzle I visited last time and was too lazy to figure out
anyway that's enough hints I should be able to finish at least 1 of these tomorrow
now I need something more relaxing so I'll try another of those platformers from the bundle Hat in Time came in
Persona 5 made me bored :(
100+ hour stories do not seem like your thing
Persona 5 made me bread
That is why they made P5 Anime
Don't mess with p5 fans
they don't even know it's a videogame
persona fan finally plays persona
and hates it
final fantasy fan finally plays a 2nd final fantasy
They're called Final Fantasy fans, not Final Fantasy 2 fans
yeah probably
NA Final Fantasy fan hears that FF6 is amazing, getting confused that they have 1-3 and then 7
i finished FF5 a week or two ago, FF7 felt kinda lame in comparison
final fantasy fans learn what numbers are
Since I'm not super into FF I wonder if FF fans dislike 7 or think other FFs are better than 7
I know FF4 is generally regarded as pretty damn good, I actually played that one, I never finished it
honestly, I'm not sure there is a clear group of "FF fans" in general, it feels more like the most popular FFs each have their own separate fanbases that maybe played one or two of the nearby FFs but still not most of the series
My favorites are 8, 10, 2, 9 and 7
FF8 appreciator
There's lots of groups that play most games.
You might not encounter them because people who play all Final Fantasy games don't have much time to play other games
yall can hate me, but I love 15
I want to try 15
I'm saying those people are a vanishingly small minority compared to all the people that ever played any FFs
Square Enix won't even sell it to me
not that they don't exist at all
no boyband simulator
I guess they don't like the optics
everything I know about 15 comes from that huge FF retrospective video, and I get why someone would find that particular one the most appealing
15 was the first one I played so I think it will always be significant to me
also yeah the combat is unusual
I still think they should of went w the combat model from the episode tenebrae demo
Weirdly I'm not really into the sci fi-ish ''modern'' Final Fantasy outside of Crisis Core which is the only one I actually played through to the end
So I never cared for 15
I like the fantasy aesthetics of 4, 9, 14
I just love the boyband in 15 and honestly letting ignis drive w music on was a mood
I feel like 14 has more sci-fi hiding in it than 15 did
How did you totally skip 6
im a basic bitch and like FFVII
i love Midgar so much
Yes but that's "the most liked", not "your favorite"
I never usually hear about FF5 or 6
6 is one of the fan favorites
What are they about?
Though I never finished 15 so I don't actually know that you don't at some point get in a spaceship and head off into the universe
I just never think about it
ff6 was defo the one I heard the most growing up
Crystals plus mecha
other than 7
6 is the one they started to go with steampunk vibe
This is the original introduction of Final Fantasy 6. I think it is the best Final fantasy ever made. Enjoy =).
Original theme from the introduction of FF6 : Terra from Nobuo Uematsu
.::.
Il s'agit de la version originelle de l'introduction de Final Fantasy 6. Je penses que c'est le meilleurs final fantasy.
Musique de l'introduction : T...
sounds awesome
Have a top-tier intro sequence
the intro is iconic
does Super Mario RPG count as a Final Fantasy /j
Terras theme is amazing
FF likes its mechs
That's what I said
I actually like that
It's like introducing sci fi tech into a fantasy world without fully going into a sci fi futuristic world
I played a PS1 port of FF6 but never got beyond the snail whatever the fuck it is tutorial boss
didnt the ps1 port have like super long load times?
Thief does that a lot
I played it for like an hour
Final Fantasy 8 is like that in a different way. The world is contemporary with very little advanced technology, but also there's magic, primarily fueled by sorceresses.
They're waiting for you. In the test chamber…
in this case, quite literally; the backstory of FF6 involves magic being mostly lost and humanity going steampunk for a while until the main story kicks off and there are varying opinions about whether bringing back magic would be a good idea
wait, wrong game
Oh yeah I've seen very little of 8 but I do like the aesthetic of that game too
I actually had a music disc as a kid that had an AMV of FF8's opening with some song that I completely forget what it even was
but I remember loving that video
I was kinda sad when I found out not a lot of people like ff8 after I beat it
I thought it was great
I was always puzzled by that aspect of 8 until I watched the aforementioned video
and now it makes sense; the narrative is very focused on its protagonist's perspective and internal thoughts, and only works if you empathize with him
I mostly like it for the optional bosses
there's a bunch of polarizing stories like that which are made or broken by whether the viewer empathizes with the main character or just finds them annoying
I didnt even attempt the superboss ngl
Evangelion is the first example that pops to mind for me
im talking about omega weapon
Omega Weapon is no fun because you just abuse Holy Wars
If he were a little easier or the game gave you more options he'd be fun
(Holy War is an item that makes your whole party completely invincible for a time. You can make a bunch of it by transforming cards)
I used it for ultimecia
what was the spell that lets you use limit breaks way more?
Aura
Just spammed lion heart
Ultimecia has a secret spell you can draw that no other enemies have
But since she's the final boss you never get to junction that spell to stats
Yeah

Oooooo

If Johnny Silverhand is in it, I'm guessing Keanu will be there
No particular reason to assume he is, though, that I can see
I feel if they can get a similar vibe to what Altered Carbon had (early season 1), it should be a perfect fit for Cyberpunk
Right. No reason it can't just be another one-shot like Edgerunners was.

Joking aside, and I have to preface I love Keanu, I don't think he is such a great pick for Johnny
he does the job but he just doesn't have the kind of rage and contempt for the world in him that characterise Johnny
On the other hand, Idris Elba for the DLC was an excellent pick, so you lose some, you win some
.......Keanu literally plays a man so full of rage and contempt for the world because they killed his dog that he decides to become the world's greatest and deadliest assassin/killer.
That's a cold, controlled rage

yeah
Some of them look better. Most of them arnt noticeable or weird
And also very incel-esque, only wanting "perfect women" in games. Never mind.

Cloud looks so weird
Ah, they did men too
Never mind that last comment
But the smooth faces still look like plastic
Ironically the starfield one makes the faces look less jarring
I think that's a drawback of the tool and the fact they're using youtube videos as source (they even say that near the end of the vid)
Rather than having access to the models/the backend of the game itself to use the tool on
Sgt johnson was probably the best looking one imo
The smoothness isn't a choice they made, but an end result of the combination of tools
Nathan Drake looked pretty good, I think
This is the only one I agree with, but that's more because they completely updated the facial structure too and made it more realistic and less scrunched.

(a free enterprise style randomizer)
It was very different
John Wick is vengeful, but also, it comes from a place of having been robbed of the person he loved and the ability to properly grieve her.
It's more sad than furious.
While Johnny Silverhand is a rage against the system as a whole, much less focused.
I just can't see Keanu in that role
Not to say he did a bad job, just that he wasn't the best actor for that role IMO
it's funny when the game I'm actually trying to finish says "now switch to Hollow Knight and kill this guy in particular to unblock everything"
was gonna leave everyone in soul sanctum alive but nope
took only 3 tries to relearn Crisanta's parry timing
buuuuut I accidentally fulfilled enough true ending conditions that she has the extra phase so it doesn't count
It's easier with the sound on
let's see if unequipping the true ending heart is enough to prevent that
Does the randomizer let you remove it?
yep
Then that seems sound
I couldn't in good faith not do the extra phase to save Crisanta
looks like that did the trick, just beat her again and she stayed down
but yes I'm sparing her life
You can't kill her if you tried

I always forget to play Thief
