I meant on the ps2
Of course it wasn't 1080p on the PS2 it was 480p, it's not like these remasters completely overhaul the games to such a degree that it justifies dropping down half the performance of the original hardware
so about emulators

Its relatively minor. But even the switch should be able to do it with how much upgraded hardware it has compared to a ps2
Go on
oh just being snarky
Oh lol.
It's not like I care, I'm not supporting Konami again or even have a Switch, but it's still inexcusable and it lets me know this is still the same Konami that gave us the Silent Hill "HD collection" a decade ago
mgs4:
I already own MGS1 and 2 on PC so if I wanted to play I'd play them there, only problem is figuring out controls
An MGS hd 2 Collection is allegedly also being made that has this
Good thing nobody sniffed glue in the offices that day and threw away the original HD collection of MGS for the PS3
This is basically just that
Yeah I know
I was just joking about how they still haven't ported it over yet
They're gonna include Twin Snakes on the second volume I'm sure
That would be funny
And maybe MGS Peace Walker if they're feeling like it
I don't see them porting Portable Ops or the Acid games even though I would like them to
Portable Ops ?
MGS3 sequel for the PSP
Okay, yeah, sorry Unity, but you guys already dug your grave. For one, you have one of the greediest CEOs to ever walk through the doors of a gaming company headquarters, and for two, you guys basically already killed your reputation by doing what you did. Damage control and trying to soften the blow of the fee isn't gonna do anything. The fee never should have been a thing to begin with. Even if it's not as strict, it's still there. That's the worst part. It shouldn't be there. They should have just gotten rid of it. That would have had a higher chance of them actually recovering in comparison to this
Yeah unity will become less relevant over the years as devs abandon it for others such as unreal
This was being discussed in #science-and-tech
I'm very curious about what they have to say in the fireside chat in half an hour
The fee itself is now entirely reasonable
It's just a trust problem
And to be honest I suspect that the deep investment that people have made in their product makes it a recoverable one.
I concur
The bigger unknown is whether new developers can trust Unity sufficiently to marry their projects to them or not.
Honestly I'm not sure about that.
yep, the biggest impact of this is going to be the long tail of future projects not choosing Unity to begin with
Personally I would very much like to use Unity because they're the most approachable option.
I'm just not sure I can trust them to not pull the rug out from under me.
(This boldly assumes that I'll ever actually build something to the point where I actually care, but putting that aside)
I already had my phase of twiddling with game-like code in my spare time and quickly realized I have no skill or interest at the non-code parts of game development
Well at least I'm now confident that this runtime fee would never apply to any project I would ever make
Frankly, on an unrelated note
I just think Unreal's a better engine
like, trust and monetization aside
I just like using Unreal way more.
even on very basic levels like UI and controls, it just feels better
unrelated: friend is going through Ace Attorney trilogy
they played us like a damn fiddle!!
Said friend is 100% justified
Unreal is a somewhat odd option for 2D games, at least.
2D tooling in UE is kinda lackluster
Anything works if you push it hard enough
Also arn’t you supposed to be making me a dinosaur model ma

It definitely works, but it’s a prettt 3D heavy engine and it may be a bit overkill for the use case
I wouldn't take that response as a serious objection lol
writing your own engine from scratch also "works"
“It just works”
eventually

I've messed around with ue4 a bit
All I know how to do is import a 3d model as a level and give it collision so you can walk around in it though lol
Making your own engine is too difficult
I gotta get a new pc at some point with much more space and better specs and stuff so I can fully jump into it
ironically I know enough of the technical aspects that I probably could write a special-purpose engine if I wanted to
but that's like saying I could read every Batman comic ever written if I wanted to
it's not about difficulty, it's about having finite time on this Earth
Mhmm. I understand the basic principles at a high level, but I don't have the patience for that sort of time and effort investment.
incidentally, for anyone who can write code but doesn't know the basic principles of game engines, I recommend https://gameprogrammingpatterns.com/contents.html
making your engine is a good learning exercise, but don't do it for production
yup
(well, maybe do it for production if you're making a 4D game… and end up like Miegakure)
Ngl the most I know coding wise is making a simple yes or no pop up using visualbasic in notepad lol
I mentioned Miegakure during an university presentation in 2019, it's still not out
ah, "fully" 4D as opposed to... I guess what most of my puzzle games do you could call "3D with discontinuities"?
yeah
@little badger Got it, and some extra achievements to boot
yooooooooo
Car insurance
Ed Sheeran's not that good tbh
iHeart is nice though
kinda hoping theyll give him a skin in game as well
@slim thorn Aaargh. Exploring most of upper part of ||Quarry|| in Tunic. Trying to head to what I think is the bottom but there's so god damn many mobs. Place is super frustrating.
did you find the important thingy in the upper part?
Uhhhh. ||Unless you mean a rope shortcut, no?
||
i don't even know what I missed
there should be a building you can enter
I did do that yes. ||And the back door leads to the rope shortcut||. Was there something inside?
did you open every chest in there?
There was only a single one to open. All others were already opened
And the one only had a ||fox figurine thing? I think?||
you're supposed to find this:
Oh, that, yes
Right, now I realize what it is
(I kinda almost forgot about that mechanic after setting up two of them)
Looks like a Volus from Mass Effect
Oh my god it does
you are now required to post a screenshot of your fox wearing it
It was mostly positive when I looked. Guess the review bombers hadn't noticed it yet.
Lmao, I'm waiting to play this on gamepass
There's no good reason for payday to rely on a server
The game was literally unplayable when I checked last night, haha
I imagine any non-negative reviews were people with early access
El Blásfemo ™️ update
Got all sörd upgrades, gave || the fourth visage both eyes of the traitor I got last time ||, and got the item and skin after giving 100k to the church
Now I think I'm all ready to finish up
Nice work
I went back to my Souls roots and found a farm route by looking at the tears enemies drop, I pretty much did this little route for farming with the mea culpa heart for more tears and the prayer for more tears, nets you a little over 1k tears for every time you go through so it takes a bit to get to 10k and above but it literally takes like a little over 5 min it's just very repetitive but that's farming for you
Still don't have 100% completion on the map or the entire game process looking at my save file so maybe I still have to look for all the remaining bones I haven't gotten yet
and I didn't buy all the items from Candelaria but I'm not super worried about either
I always get stuck at 99% map completion
there's a number of rooms where it's awkward to get the last square map tile even though nothing of interest, or literally nothing at all, is in that tile
so I just ignore that
I'm pretty sure I got every single tile in the game other than the final one...
There's this room now that I think about it but there's nothing there
Oh, I also got all cherubs
oh yeah, there are a few rooms related to that one you're looking at which can only be opened in NG+ mode
I never thought about whether the map% counts those on a first playthrough but I guess it must for you to be at only 96%
metroid omg
oh so they do have normal spawn as well
I like both versions of the spawn skin tbh
oof I'm only missing 3 bones
I guess I could go do that real quick...
Spawn is voiced by Keith David i think
I also thought that was Metroid for a moment
I should get back to my Tunic and Blasphemous solo randos, but I'm still in the middle of a NieR quest
I wanna play NeiR
ayyyy
that is so not worth it lol the skin isn't that great, luckily I came across 98% of all these collectables during regular gameplay and I only had to actually go back and find these last few
I really should've used markers...
this is the game that taught me the importance of using custom map markers when the game provides them

he is one with the bones now
I had put way too much trust in my ability to remember the stuff that I found that I couldn't get to and ''I'll get to it later when I get the necessary skill'' or something
Hmmm... I really really love this skin but I'd be down for using another skin for this last part of the game, but which one...
this one reminds me of Link's blue tunic from albw
could go for this one
ooh my attacks are red now that I equipped the true heart of mea culpa
huh, I forgot about that
oops, you unlocked the true ending, enjoy your third phase
Remember to parry
~~why would we warn you
~~
more seriously, if you can do phases 1 and 2, the 3rd shouldn't be a problem
she even gets a music swell and everything she's too cool to be left alive
I love that this is basically following the same formula of character action games where the final (?) boss is literally just you and can do the things you can do too

I want a teleport....
man it's a good thing I still get the souls everytime I do phase 1
I do appreciate that even if you die multiple times, you leave multiple guilt markers; none of them get erased until you collect them (or use a confessor statue)
Yeah I appreciate that a lot, sure would've made the experience much nicer in Souls if it worked like that too
not least because in my current solo rando I've been forced to leave two guilt markers behind
I'll be back
man I wonder if I just need to git gud or if I'm somehow underpowered or have the wrong beads
she's beating the fuck out of me
Crisanta is one of those fights that's super consistent once you git gud but tears you to shreds if you just do random stuff
just staying put, parrying and countering deals with a lot of her moveset
Yeah I keep losing my cool and falling for stuff I already know very well how to defend against
and I only got 3 flasks too (mind you, nearly full heal with full max hp but still)
I tend to hang on to one or two quicksilvers personally
at least now that I'm not trying to complete that sidequest
I keep wanting to squeeze in a Debla here and there but I can't seem to find a proper opening for it without eating an attack or her flying away
yeah she never hangs around in the air long enough
some of the horizontal prayers can work when she's standing still to catch her breath but I don't know if it's worth it, last time I fought her I was so focused on nailing the parry rhythm I forgot to even try
Tiento would be interesting
I'm mostly talking about the first phase
The second phase I'm still not deep into it enough to even know what it's about and what I need to look out for or do
parry for dear life
It's what I'm thinking of but... is the entire phase just parrying?
I get zero openings at all, when I parry I go too far back to run up to her
well not literally lol
but she does have long periods of being impossible to safely hit
waow DDLC is six years old today
honestly thought it was older than that
I just bought the pokermans violent dlc
Took awhile but I finally got to S rank.
I get discombobulated and destroyed in that game every match
Reminds me of when I took a really cool picture of ddlc and Metroid dreads game cases with the sunlight peering over the green eyes and visor
ddlc is old enough to go to school.
ddlc had a physical release??
Yeh
ddlc is one of the things I haven't looked up anything at all to avoid spoilers until I get around to finally playing it
I recommend getting the physical game if you ever get around playing it because it comes with cardboard standees
goddamnit, it's only on console isn't it
that's like the one thing consoles have over pc: most of the time, there's a collectors edition you can't get if you're just getting a digital version
From what I know, unfortunately yeah. Ddlc plus is on steam but it doesn't come with all of the extra stuff
good thing I don't care about physical stuff
I love physical games but it can backfire once the disc evaporates into dust or it gets slashed by raiden from metal gear rising
that's so cool
it's a really really good game
Yeah I've heard
I do this for any game I hear is really good
I did this for persona 5 and went in 100% completely blind and absolutely had the experience of a lifetime
definitely doing this with other games I hear are masterpieces in the future
I'm also refraining from searching anything up for certain movies too
I only look up plot stuff for games that I would never play because they're in a genre I can't enjoy, and even that is pretty rare
DDLC is definitely on my "hopefully someday" list so I'll continue to avoid spoilers
Spoilers find me no matter where I hide
the thing about spoilers is that if you don't care about something and you read the plot anyway you'll forget about it within a day
but if you suddenly do care about it then you're spoiled
the trick is to make google and co think that you're not interested in it at all by not searching it up so that they don't recommend you stuff from it
like all I knew about persona 5 was the title, the song "life will change," and joker, that's it lol
DDLC is definitely a game that benefits from knowing little to nothing about it
Yeh
although right now I've got NieR fulfilling my "games that mess with your head" itch
||the loading screen is talking to me
||
i watched Jacksepticeye play DDLC for the first time because i didn't have a computer back then
congrats
that was only 2 phases though
Waiting for a game that will randomly add another phase to the final boss in the middle of the credits rolling
apparently that was the third phase, the second one is when her sword changes
and apparently I'm not the only one that was kind of angry at the fight
I got the hang of it but I still think it's pretty tough how little time there is to do stuff
cheevo
well, in that case you should like the next one more
and who are you old man
Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! What happens when you take your game and take away any semblance of offline play when it easily can handle it? You get a game that the playerbase can't play for it's launch week. This is the current Payday 3 experience and it's completely inaccessible. Thanks for watching!
Like, Comment and Subscribe f...
Damn
Muta being really harsh
well that's saying something isn't it, with how 2023 has went so far
summa blasphemia
good job, you killed the pope

That's it?
for this ending
one of my few complaints with this game is that how to get the other ending is basically "look up a walkthrough"; it's not something you could plausibly figure out naturally like Hollow Knight's or Tunic's true endings
damn, awesome, and edgy
the added-in-DLC ending is better about that
Ooooooohhhhh nooooo waaaayyyy
I just looked up the requirements for ending c and it's totally what I did
I went back to the brotherhood because Crisanta said something about going back to where I took my first steps but I didn't see her so I assumed there was nothing there and I was overthinking it
God dammit
yeah, you've already done most of the ending C requirements
probably whatever you need to unlock ending A is also what's left to unlock C
I didn't do the statue thingy
and didn't get Weight of True Guilt?
yeah, once you know it's not hard at all
there you are!
I simply never tried equipping that particular bead so I never had a chance to bungle into the multiple steps to open those arenas
Uuuuuh if you mean the pearly thingy I did equip that once in this brotherhood area and initially I thought if you died in this area you didn't accumulate guilt but once I looked in my menu I noticed it changed into being a little bit tainted or something so I unequipped it and never used it again now that it told me it absorbs guilt
yep, that's one of the secret ending mechanics, you want to fully tarnish that bead
still, you got closer than I did

I think I equipped it once because I suspected it had some secret purpose the flavor text was refusing to tell me, but "nothing happened" and I gave up on it
This is literally the only thing left I had to do to get ending C I'm so mad
nice
I like that Crisanta isn't mad at me anymore I like Crisanta
well to be honest I think it's good to see ending B before the others
I guess so, I'm going to assume that's the bad ending
it's difficult to judge goodness and badness of these endings
but probably yes
it's certainly the one where you change the least
I'm assuming that's what it is because Escribar said something about how I'm not the only one that died right there or something like that? So I pretty much became another anonymous penitent of the bunch
you mean Deogracias?
derp, yeah that one
I'm still thinking about the pope
So.... now I need to do the confession statues thingy...
Oh dope I have 99% completion of the map now
incidentally, if you want to understanding endings A and B better, the main chunk of lore that's spelled out more clearly outside the game is https://blasphemous.fandom.com/wiki/The_Turned_Throne_and_the_Burnt_Tree; in-game this is done Dark Souls style by hiding it all in item descriptions
Of course
I assumed there was so much lore hidden in these descriptions because they're waaaay longer than a Dark Souls item and they tell a story rather than just describing an item
But my attention span isn't enough to read them so I never did
me neither
That sounds a lot like the B ending
yup
Why do you only have three bile flasks?
Because I upgraded to the max
i think 2023 has been amazing for games though
You should have four
yeah, but the lows have been... low
Uuuuuuh I may have missed one flask then
I think the one you're missing is on the library of negated words at the bottom of a tall room with a librarian at the right and a door at the left

Jump attack down the center for a hidden wall
that is the easiest one to miss
I think most people who find it on their own break the floor by accident
That's what happened to me
one of these rooms?
Yes one of the three long vertical sections that have a door to the left at the very bottom
I play the game at a very low volume so the secret wall noise relic does nothing for me
Yes
I got it
It was behind a hidden wall that I never would've assumed was there
sure but Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur's Gate 3, Resident Evil 4 remake ?
I mean, yeah
But there's a breakable candleabra next to the wall
that doesn't mean the lows haven't been very low
You have to break every candelabra because it's fun
Especially ones suspiciously close to the wall
I think I was breaking candles more consistently in my original run than in any later playthrough
I never really thought about it before even though I did notice some breakable objects near hidden stuff, I guess I was too early into the game to really be actively looking out for that and I never bothered to go back to this specific dungeon
especially with the beads that give you more tears or fervour on smashing
It is early
Late game those beads lose you tears because you're not killing enemies which give way more
yeah you break candles to get stuff likes hearts or crosses or holy water or knives
No that's in Curse of the Moon
and late game you have far more tears than you can spend anyway
no that's in Castlevania
Yeah early game you get a bead that gives you tears and later mana for breaking stuff which I did kind of use until I got better ones
Curse of the Moon is a Castlevania game
googles
Made by the Castlevania guy
sorry i only play Castlevania games with Simon
He broke up with the company that holds the intellectual rights to Castlevania
And then made his own games
Castlevania and bloodstained has awesome ost
probablt because Konami sucks
There’s also an actual Castlevania called Circle of the Moon to further confuse things
ooh!
that was the ds one wans't it
pretty sure that was before the DS
oh it was GBA
i was thinking of Dawn of Sorrow
the one with the worst box art ever
That isn't that bad
I had no complaints back when I bought and played it
But now that I know the series better, I get people being underwhelmed by this after Aria’s art
Favorite Blasphemous hearts: +20% damage, +damage but less defense, +100% prayer damage, healing on kills, righteous riposte window heart
(righteous riposte deals more damage than a regular one and lets you execute)
no im specifically talking about the "Konami's Best" box
where it has the original box inside the other box art
oh
I hate every character here except the two main characters
well that wasn’t there when I played it
i only like Simon
he is my favourite
Wait I just realized the box art is a game case in the cover
But there's a lot of cute characters besides Simon
yes 😭😭😭
I guess I'm just mad they called him Simon when he doesn't say anything.
at least it's not the Mega Man 1 american boxart
I think that megaman is his own character in a fighting game
yes
Happy pikachu and angry pikachu
This Pikachu is determined but not angry
Oh yeah true
Whoever's idea it was to put a mandatory race level where you have to get first place in the very start of Mafia
I don't like you

lets gooooo

crisanta assist
god damn that's a cool frame
I love that Crisanta straight up just squared up against... whatever this is
Every time you post a screenshot from this game, I think I understand it less.
lol well get ready for this
Fuck this game and the horse it road in on
...oh.
Ah, I see, so that's how it is, I understand everything now.
doesn't understand anything
where are his clothes
Well, that clarified pretty much everything. Thanks, Nire!
you should activate Windows

I will never
Alright, only took me 35.8 hours of total playtime to get the true ending and almost 100% completion
good game 10/10 recommend
I love that it seems like the animated cutscenes use the skins I chose, in the penultimate cutscene which was incredibly animated || (where me and Crisanta cut up those big ol' faces) || Penitente has the blue outfit I got on, so that's pretty awesome
I will interpret this scene with the context I have.
The only way to get a taller helmet is to get higher towards the sky so that is what this person is doing. They will get in a sky cocoon to do Metamorphosis and become a beautiful long helmet person
That's pretty much exactly what's going on
I finally beat the infamous race mission from Mafia
I feel less of a sense of accomplishment
is that the one Jerma did
And more a sense of "fucking finally"
Was it a bullshit race at the start of a game that's supposedly a shooter
uhhh
idk but i rmeember him having to do a race in a parking gragae and just not being able to
i cant find it
les gooo
The
what
how
Finished the game without ever visiting the surface.
the biggest hindrance here is no paraglider
yeah i can totally see them finishing the game without the surface
you dont need the paraglider
Yo nice work Nire!
it's been so long since I saw this cutscene I forgot just how strongly it connects to the sequel
while we're at it, have you seen ending A? I think you might have to look up a video at this point but it's worth seeing too
I'm thinking today I should be able to get ending C in NieR, and then probably play my solo randos of Hat in Time and Blasphemous
my Blasphemous rando start was a bit too mean, but after a round in each of the other games I should have enough stuff to break out of it
Oh.... OH NO.
These fuckers take one damage at a time when my deck is built around massive burst damage
oh
even better
they heal 1 hp a turn
hitting one of them makes my mana colourless (since this game has coloured mana that's BAD for MY MOSTLY COLOURED DECK)
@slim thorn ...Well. Not the type of things I was expecting to see in this zone in Tunic. ||Underground, deeeep underground||
yup
that bit is a perfect example of how Tunic is sort of somewhere in between a Zelda-like and a Souls-like
Fuck those ||elemental spiders||
each "bonfire" down there is a godsend
I can't remember if this is a Touhou mod for Slay the Spire or a separate Touhou fangame or what
The latter.
Do you think I have enough barrier yet?
oh ok
just a casual
maths vaguely 168 damage?
Yeah wow
That killed me, revived me with 50% health because of a relic
and then killed me again the same turn
this boss makes Heart look like a fuckin' joke
oh neat! what's the name of this Touhou game?
i have a friend who might get a kick out of it
It's called Slay the Spire
Touhou Lost Branch of Legend
it's in Early Access but there's some nice stuff in the game already
Is it actually a different game or just a mod
It's a completely different game
The Princess of the Moon, Kaguya Houraisan, held the Moon Manifestation exhibition was ransacked by thieves. that's why I asked lol
Honestly I'm pretty sure you can just show the screenshot to a random person and convince them that it is StS
submit it to GuessTheGame and watch no one but us get it
fair en ough thanks hc
I wonder if they added this new ending and cutscene on the last update after they started making the second game and realized none of the endings connected to the sequel
I haven't, I've read what it is but I haven't seen it yet
Will say the C ending feels a lot more satisfactory than the other two
given how bizarre this all is I think it helps to see it
I agree C feels best regardless, not least because it's such a direct connection to 2
probably, though I'd guess they planned the DLC and sequel together rather than went "oops
" at the last minute
Took me a moment to realize you weren't talking about the C programming language.

Wheel chair installation booster experiment fails
But I was rewarded with this fantastic picture
hehehe
but all I wanted was Dust 2
This is Dust 2
valve bring back Dust 2
Only question is why didn't they include it in the game to begin with, maybe they weren't planning or didn't fully have thought out the sequel just yet, they did consistently release dlcs every year too and they all added pretty big stuff, I would've felt so weird playing the first version of the game that I assume most people have played
Probably why I may not buy blasph 2 for the foreseeable future in case it also receives pretty significant updates like that
reasonable, plus it's probably best to leave a bit of a gap or they might feel too samey
Considering I may go for Metroid Fusion and/or Aria of Sorrow just to scratch one of them off the bucket list yes I think I'm all good on Blasphemous for now
it's not like the two NieR games where playing back to back dramatically improved my understanding of the stories

Star Wars: Jedi 3 is on the way, according to Cal Kestis actor Cameron Monaghan
cool

I’ve not played the second one but I have played the first is survivor good?
yes
they're similar enough in content and quality that if you like one you'll like the other
probably the biggest difference is simply that Survivor's full moveset is a superset of Fallen Order's; it definitely assumes you've played FO and are ready to add more stuff to it
e.g. Survivor adds a grappling hook to the metroidvania movement abilities, and in FO you have single blade, double blade, at the very end split saber but Survivor adds two new "stances" and has separate skill trees for all five stances
Ooooh different stances. I’ve seen gameplay of it but I didn’t think I seen anyone do that.
the crossguard stance (slow but high damage) is particularly effective on certain bosses
I’ll be using the grapple hook a lot.
I guess for completeness, my biggest complaints with Survivor that don't apply to Fallen Order are that a) you can only "equip" two stances at a time, I wish I could've swapped freely between all five to experiment more, and b) there's kind of an overwhelming amount of collect random stuff content, best to not obsess over getting all of it (remember the 10 seeds you could get in FO? that also got expanded but maybe it shouldn't have lol)
I can see where you are coming from. If you’ve played Ghost of Tsushima you can change to any stance you want and they are all equipped.
ah, nope, Tsushima looked too open world-y for me
I would highly recommend it. You can fast travel from camps.
I'm sure, every open world game has fast travel, that's not my issue with the genre lol
the first, biggest problem is that most of them devolve into "run toward the next map icon/waypoint for a few minutes" in between all the chunks of real content that's actually fun to play
that they all have fast travel makes it only a few minutes each time, but it's still annoying, and in an older game with traditional "levels" you just don't waste time on that
basically the only time I want a game to have a large open world in the modern sense (people sometimes confuse this with the tight interconnected non-linear labyrinths of metroidvanias) is when the movement itself is a fun part of the core gameplay loop, but that's not the case in most of these games
"small open worlds" where it's dense enough you don't waste half the runtime running to waypoints can be great though, like A Short Hike, but "open world" as it's normally used in the industry implies space for space's sake
the second problem is that when they try to make their needlessly huge worlds dense in content, they always end up with filler content or a good piece of content repeated too many times (and I have heard people specifically say Tsushima has this problem)
Yeah some of Tsushima’s side stuff did feel a bit repetitive at times. I love open world games but I mostly explore the world first unless you need to do a quest first or if you can’t enter that area until you are a certain level.
yeah, they've been a trend because people who aren't me seem to like them
so I mostly just play other stuff
(which is odd to say when I just finished NieR: Automata, but I was playing that for the story, and it absolutely has the standard "lots of time running to waypoints" problem even with fast travel)
And I love the Assassin’s creed worlds but sometimes they use the same assets for some areas.
I loved the first few ACs, but after effectively playing AC2 four times / finishing AC3 it was just too samey to hold my interest any more (especially since none of those games found a solution to the fundamental problem of being too easy and/or scripted to ever want to use most of your moveset/toolset)
the worlds still look cool, but when that's all the game has, watching is better than playing
It’s good that Mirage is going to where it started and I’ve heard it’s very short
reminds me of the Unreal 2 mod that makes movement twice as fast, and almost redeems the gameplay on its own
They aren't similar enough
Fallen Order has fucked up difficulties

Grandmaster in Fallen Order and Grandmaster in Jedi Survivor are two different games
oh, right, you play on high difficulties
I do not
neat, Blasphemous II just got its first big post-launch bugfix patch, and the only bug I remember seeing in my playthrough is in the list
that might be the single most useless hint I've ever received
(but seriously it probably means one of the few rooms in the game that needs a key to access)
...that was definitely not the intended way to earn a speedrunning achievement
Did you not beat the three bosses?
I did random start location, which came out as rooftops, so I've been going backwards mostly
I assume the achivement just checks when you arrive in this room, considering I entered from the east
That's how it works
ah, the joys of enemy rando
it took me... 2:33 to reach Albero
less than I was expecting tbh
still haven't found my dash, but barely beat Ten Piedad without it on the first try
and it looks like putting all my bosses in priority_locations is having the desired effect
that's the only boss I can actually get to so perfect end to that session
wow that's mean
It's okay, just don't dash
The ranged blood attack is actually pretty good DPS and relatively safe
Can be used for most bosses
I am pretty bad at remembering that exists
You learn to use it when you do the blue NG+ penitance
I think when I originally enabled this I was hoping it'd force me to parry more often, which is sort of true, but I think when combined with enemy rando there's too many situations where parry is a bad idea anyway; I end up slashing and hopping away as my default loop
yeah mana regen makes that ranged attack unlimited so it can replace the melee
Did you know about righteous ripostes?
I don't think so
When you parry, hit the attack button the moment your sword touches the enemy
You instantly execute them
ah, ok
If you do it five times successfully across any number of runs you get an achievement
There's a heart that makes parries harder but righteous ripostes much easier
I'm guessing you checked I don't have that achievement
sweet, just found my Pages 24-25 ||(Prayer)||, which means switching back to Tunic
hm, can I fight the birb without any ranged weapons or a shield
Oh, without shield? That's tougher
oh and still no health flasks
I am so glad I did start_with_sword: true lol
getting the chest was easy at least
welp
I got it below half, we're doing this again
Oh I don't like that magic/hp meter
oh that's a stamina meter
I don't get a magic bar until I have a magic weapon
anyway, nailed it
(in vanilla you'd normally have a shield and magic by the time you got here)
I feel like I'd have a hard time gauging the values in those meters since it's isometric and three dimensional like the game
they also have little notches at certain regular intervals
I believe each of these started at two ?s before the upgrades I've found so far
It's an aesthetically nice hud tho
this also isn't a game where precise numerical values are all that important
what little there is of it anyway
it reminds me of Ocarina of Time's or Link's Awakening's mostly minimalist huds
Everything about the game is aesthetically awesome
it's much more Zelda than it is an RPG
which is part of the reason it randomizes so well

Oh I'm not talking about numerical values precisely it would just mess me up because I wouldn't be able to fully tell when I'm topped off or how much health I'm missing because I'm stoopid and I like my flat 2D huds
also this is the shiniest chest I have ever seen but such a troll that I can't get to it right now
Hell I kinda actually liked the singular health values on the arcade minigame in Blasphemous
reminds me of hearts in Zelda rather than just the one bar
Play NG+
oh you'll love NG+ Penitence of the Bleeding Heart then
Don't happen to glance towards that chest when the sunlight is bouncing off of it

I don't know what that is but I doubt I'll be doing NG+ on Blasphemous I think I've had my fill
totally fair
I "only" did one NG+ run, and mostly so I could see the DLC NG+ bosses
I think Flitter did all three of the NG+ Penitences?
Yes
basically at the start of an NG+ run you can pick one of three special modes that change how health/magic/etc work in ways that are intended to make the game harder but also play very differently
like the one that makes fervour regenerate over time, but your flasks heal fervour instead of health
That one was the hardest
Frog's Domain is probably a terrible idea without a shield but I've got 3 Attack maybe I can cheese it
well, the tracker claims I can get most of the checks in here
Bald! Bald! My eyes!!!
NG+ in Blasphemous has four extra optional bosses
The four Amanecidas
With extra related cutscenes
well that would be useful in the base game
oh no the three NG+ penitences would all be a terrible idea for a first time player lol
DS3 has this where you can choose to swap some estus flasks for mana flasks instead and considering how little fervor I usually get from my attacks and that it doesn't regenerate that would've been useful
So I'm missing content
they're a side story, but, yes
I mean there's also the whole second game to do
up to you
I'm guessing it's the room that was empty and had nothing on it with the mirror
that room is part of it yes
Yeah but the second game may get content updates in the future
though it's not where you start
If you beat each penitance you get a rosary bead. One makes you slowly heal HP after using a bile flask, one makes you slowly heal fervor, and one makes your bile flasks heal fervor instead of health
You can keep those for future runs, so NG+1 is the hardest
unironically using stealth here because I don't think I can fight all the frogs feels so weird
By NG+2 I'd imagine one would be decked out so much and already have sufficient skills that it'd feel like a breeze to go through
Legendary game, legendary sneaking theme :)
Enjoy!

this is fine, I'm completely safe
wow, now that I'm actually pushing the limits of the frogs' detection logic, it turns out they have no peripheral vision
Makes sense with those hoods
good point
It would be really funny if they were actually programmed with a narrow cone of vision because of the hoods
My general impression of the level of detail and care in Tunic is that that's exactly what I'd expect to happen
ok, this last room might not be worth it
in vanilla that's a super critical item, but here it's just an MP berry, so not worth fighting 10+ enemies with my current lack of gear
gah, took me several minutes to re-discover this hidden passage
I'm 90% sure in my original playthrough I found this passage in my first few hours and then couldn't figure out how to reach the rest of the region until much later in the game
and now I'm finding bonus hidden passages all over this area I don't think I ever used in vanilla
Finished Final Fantasy 5 last night
What a great fuckin game it was
Finished with a Ninja, a Summoner, a Blue Mage, and a Chemist
for "bombable walls", does anything besides firecrackers work? (I just wasted a "fire bomb")

its beautiful
LETS FUCKING GOOOO
it's beautiful i agree Deviant
Hideki Kamiya, most known for Bayonetta series, is leaving Platinum Games
I think i'll start a new game of that once i finish tunic
I was very much a hater and I think I'm gonna buy the expansion on release, that's how much the 2.0 got me
Well not on release, probably gonna wait a couple of days...
Just to make sure it works, once bitten..
I already got it but I'll wait a bit before starting, yeah
Gear up, Agents! It’s time for the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Launch Trailer!
Get ready to play — and try not to get played. 😏

But why
It cost money
Last chance for 40k space wolf before its delisted from steam
I wouldn't buy it because I don't want future developers to learn this can be used to get a final boost in sale before they cut down on maintenance costs
I already started a new Cyberpunk save. The game performs better now than it did at launch.
Nice
For me easly the biggest improvment was the loot system
That has definitely been improved, yep
What about the netware stuff? I heard that got overhauled too
The implants system did indeed get overhauled and seems easier to understand IMO.
No idea, since this is the first time I played since watching Edgerunner, i installed a Sandevistan the first chance I got and never looked back
But that means I can't hack
The cyberware is pretty damn great, I think a good chunk of them were here on release, but they are all been rebalanced and a lot of new ones are there
Also now armor and stats have almost all been offloaded to the cyberware system
The skill tree was totally redone too
Yeah, I didn't play enough to have a strong feeling about the skill system before but I really like it now
Same roots, but the perks are all different now
And yeah they rebalanced everything I think
I have been enjoying myself a lot, before the writing was excellent but it was marred by the fact that you had to play Cyberpunk to experience it, now it's actually fun.
Agreed
I just go and do random encounters because I can, for no reason
I can’t quite point my finger onto why, which I feel like is a failing on my part, but the experience feels so much better
I think it's because it's not one thing that makes the game better now
But a vaeity of improvements that don't have you go "this shit again" every 5 minutes
The crowd density in the city appears to have been cranked up a notch too, which makes it feel a bit more natural
The weapons make more sense, the gear makes more sense, the skills and vehicles feel better, the cyberware makes a LOT more sense
You aren't assalted by the "well, this isn't ideal" feeling with every system you interact with like before
Yeah, that I can agree with
HMMMMMMM
y'all are tempting me into poor financial descions
I did notice that I wasn’t overwhelmed by the weapons anymore
It's not perfect, traffic is still pretty dumb, there are still some bugs, some systems are a bit fiddly and some things aren't super clear, but it's FAR better
I'll wait for a 50% sale
And yes, it’s not just raining loot to the point of immediately filling your inventory either. That was rebalanced.
I like how they did the weapons, instead of rarity the colors is the tier of the weapons
Not nearly so much garbage.
Works perfectly
Color coded for tier, and there is still some randomisation, like some mods they come with that you can't install yourself, but it's not diablo loot anymore
Which made zero sense in a cyberpunk settings, weapons are mass produced, why do they have randomised effects?
I went with a sniper/assault rifle build last time, if I recall
I was just thinking "It'd be nice if this game had achievements"
Oh good, suffering.
(Resolving the incident perfectly refers to beating Act 4)
A ransomware group claims to have breached ‘all Sony systems’
The group claims the ‘data is for sale’
See more: https://t.co/adRBH6xj3L

The hell does it mean by 'all Sony systems'?
Atrus: "Did you bring the mushroom?"
The greatest puzzle series there ever was (at least until Myst 5 f*cked it up).
I can't wait for the Riven remaster.
I still want to buy Myst 1 on VR.
not really ransom if you"re not randoming it back to sony
Hmm, Ender Lillies is half off
Could be three quarters
That would be kind of weird considering any studio he makes will eventually get big anyways
I can't find any reasons given yet for why he's leaving, I wonder if maybe there were differences between him and other members of the team, I read a comment that said something about Kamiya lying about a 'no intervention' rule during development which caused a lot of back and forths which the director of Bayo 3 talks about in the official PG blogs, but I couldn't find it
a lot of people are acting like this is equal to Kojima and Konami parting ways but honestly I think without Kamiya Bayo may be even better lol, the dude had some crazy stuff planned for the franchise and not the genius crazy but the 'you're actually insane' crazy
I actually feel like Bayo may recover from the mess that was Bayo 3 if he's not involved
I don't think it is that strange, when the studio is small he has greater influnce, as a studio grows in size he loses that. Platinum reached the point where he wants to do something but can't so he's moving on.
F
Presumably cancelling isn't necessary though
Nothing says they can't stay on the 2023 LTS build and not have to deal with the fee at all.
@slim thorn Tunic: the ||scavenger boss|| was pretty annoying. Couldn't get him by being careful, he just moved too much. ||So I loaded the gun and chugged mana berries and shot him to death
||
I'm okay at that boss if I go in with enough upgrades and equipment and don't get too greedy; he kills me very quickly if I get lazy
personally it's the Siege Engine I have the most trouble with
I have some minor business questions about the game that's expecting to make over a million dollars but can't afford to eat a 2.5% royalty fee.
though my current rando has yet to allow me to fight any of the bosses so we'll see how that goes
I did get him to... 30% just one time but otherwise kept making mistakes and didn't get him down fast enough. I think I'm at like level 4 upgrades at the moment. ||Beaten siege engine, librarian, scavenger and garden knight||
I think we might need a #1155938111407276173 thread
But then I wouldn't hear about Tunic anymore
You could join the Tunic thread
I don't like talking about it because I don't yet have it
I just like seeing it as I browse #1032716748887179434
Blasphemous and Tunic have both felt borderline lately but since not-me was doing their first playthrough I figured I'd leave it up to them whether to make a thread
I've kinda picked it up again in another attempt to actually play the darn game
Made some progress
I shall ask for more in the thread
it is rather odd that it was cancelled.
Not sure why the eye rolls, it was a major part of the advertisement.

Sacre bleu
This character's French accent is charming but feels a bit hammy
Is it insensitive or just good?
Voiced, or just text? Because if it's text, it's not that bad, at least from this one screenshot.
Just text
He says a lot of French though
It's charming, it's just very apparent he's French.
She
... THAT'S A GIRL?

To be fair you could easily read Emilie as Emile.
I've never heard of the name Emile before but I definitely have heard Emilie and recognize it as mostly french because the english version would probably be Emily
...not that I even know what's being discussed or who the characters are but still
I'm guessing Emilie is the flat one
meanwhile I've been playing games with an "Emil" lately so both of them look like they have extra letters to me
Yes she's the orange character and she likes to beat things up
guys can have boobs
I like her already
cow talk

YES
GIVE ME THE FISHING
RIGHT NOW
Yes, that's why you aggregate all the evidence you have before you make a guess
cute redhead with freckles that enjoys beating things up and likes cows
sounds like a character I'd like
Emile really likes cows.
given the artstyle I'm getting VA-11 HALL-A esque flashbacks and i wonder if Emile has cow related PTSD somehow or if NieR has fucking ruined everything for me because i'm secondguessing something THIS BENIGN

ie
I think she just really likes cows
🐮
yeah this just gives me the same vibes as how I grew up with cats
I did think of valhalla too with the pixel art
SO I AM THE CRAZY ONE

The pixel art is great
The purple silhouettes they do of "Generic" characters and the designs they give to them suck
Every single generic character is trash
i overcomplicated a jumping puzzle, thought i had to do a multi screen thing when it was on the same screen
Indeed. There’s a decent case to be had about a bait and switch, which is illegal.
Something tells me this mod's items are a bit overpowered https://i.imgur.com/d5QQm49.png

not a great time for kotor fans, the remake was also shelved when Aspyr/Saber Interactive was working on it and could've been lost completely but was picked up again recently by Embracer but still absolutely 0 news or updates about it at all
on the other hand....
Get your first look at the remaster of the classic 1995 Star Wars first-person shooter Dark Forces, which is being developed by Nightdive Studios, the same team responsible for the recent remasters of Quake 2 and System Shock. Star Wars: Dark Forces Remastered is in development for all major platforms (PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch).
dark forces remastered
yeha being done by Nightdive which means it will be good
Hoping we get to see the day Jedi Knight gets remastered :sunsetbounce:
game is literally as old as I am and it shows but dammit it's fun
i tried playing Jedi Knight 2 and did not like it
The closest we get to the Jedi Knight games these days are the Jedi Fallen Order/Jedi Survivor games.
Really miss the feel of Jedi Knight though.
Fallen Order inevitably feels a lot more cinematic because that's what games go for nowadays but I really love the slightly janky videogamey feeling of Jedi Knight
Definitely would love a remaster of Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, I've dumped an insane amount of hours into Jedi Academy as a kid and I'd do it again if they remastered that game
DARK FORCES 2 UNREAL ENGINE REMAKE V1.0
Description:
Welcome to my first Unreal Engine project.

and of course learning the engine itself.

I like how this project manages to keep the feel of Jedi Knight intact and it just makes it a bit prettier visually
Tbf. We are getting a remaster of the original
My guess is disney may have asked nicely to stop
Are we getting a remaster?
Of the first game yes
Get your first look at the remaster of the classic 1995 Star Wars first-person shooter Dark Forces, which is being developed by Nightdive Studios, the same team responsible for the recent remasters of Quake 2 and System Shock. Huh, TIL
I mean...
It's what I was talking about immediately before this convo
if we're lucky it may mean there's a Jedi Knight remaster coming along which may potentially mean Jedi Outcast and Academy, if we're lucky :twibounce:
I just want my empire at war offical remaster
oh that's the RTS right?
that would be cool
I don't know how many people are interested in RTS now though
maybe it's because I was never into it, but RTS has always felt to me like a modestly successful but not dominant genre; is it more complicated than that?
dominant within RTS, yeah, I mean over other genres, like there was a time when seemingly all of the biggest games were cartoony platformers, and a time when seemingly all of them were WW2 shooters, then sci-fi shooters, but I don't recall RTS as a genre ever being like that
is Civilisation a rts
Civ is turn based
right woops
RTS was dominant in the early 2000s but floundered with the rise of consoles versus PCs, skill floor being high, watchability in esports being low, etc
will reply after this wow dungfeon
ah that makes sense
also I was half-expecting one of you to say "mostly but then Civilization 6 3/4 introduced Active Time Battle which was controversial to say the least-"
there are decent console RTS options nowadays, but they don't really attract that many players
I suppose someday I should give Pikmin a chance
me too, I need to try it
I'd say the 90s as a whole were the RTS era, earlier had stuff like Dune and Warcrafts and C&Cs, age of empires as well I think? And late 90s had starcraft, total annihilation
But late 90s is when FPS I think became a much bigger and eventually dominating genre
Plus what Calinou said with consoles
Heck, Homeworld 1 was 1999
makes sense, early 00s is when I really started paying attention
Dota and League did a lot of damage to RTS genre as well.
oh?

Pretty much killed the competative scenes.
League literally came from a warcraft 3 mod
Defense of the ancients?
And it was built as a whole own game from that onwards
some people bought Warcraft 3 only to play DOTA
like some people download DOTA2 only to play custom games nowadays
Plus the big IPs bowed out. Warcraft became a MMO.
Red Alert disappeared.
shakesfist at EA
Starcraft 2 was pretty good but came out during the downslope.
Wasn't that 10 years later? 2010?
yeah, by the time I was paying attention I got the strong impression that Starcraft 2 was "the only RTS"
Yeah, I had a leaflet from some Blizzard game that had SC2 coming out soon... 6 years later from the date that was printed.
There's still great RTS coming out here and there, they're not mainstream anymore.
Should I try Black & White 2?
Ehhh
B&W are interesting to explore for maybe a few hours but it wears off quick
Lol, KKND in that article
Like Pokemon, black 2 and white 2?
Nah, god game
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv8xkwj7RE0 KKND was... well, borderlands level of humor meets post apocalypse meets RTS
Today we travel back to 1997 to revisit KKnD, a real-time strategy game which never quite got the same attention as C&C or Red Alert, developed by the Australian development studio, Beam Software.

I'd say yes considering Starcraft was a huge thing and Age of the Empires too, maybe not for a long time but it was definitely one of the biggest genres played online and in tournaments with maybe fighting games in there too
More than that, Steve 'Guinsoo' Feak and Steve 'Pendragon' Mescon were involved in the original development of League
the RTS I played the most as a kid myself was Age of Mythology and WC3
I still love both so much
I played Age of Mythology once
I feel like I might've finished the campaign but the actual, you know, RTS part never really clicked for me
I found a steam deck on marketplace for $500 that is a 64gb and they say they modded in a 1tb ssd
Have them boot it up and log in to verify the claim
Wikipedia's standards of notability for videogame are quite poor
I might ask my parents first
Be careful with any hardware you can't get a refund on
Lots of SSDs are fake — they report having one terabytes by altering the hardware to make it say that
When in reality they have like 128GB
I trust that one to have as much data as it reports
But it's only worth like fifty dollars used
Im not gonna buy it
hm, Heart of Cerulean Incense... double fervour but half blood attacks, that feels like something I might want to use very situationally since I really want the blood attacks until my sword is stronger
Im getting a computer next year anyways
I didn't know there was an achievement for that
Pretty sure that was the very first achievement I got haha
I walked into it pretty quickly but stopped there
I was also surprised to discover rando has a check for "Spaceship - Rumbi Abuse"
that's right, ^this was my first achievement
after this solo multirando I should play some of the other platformers that were in the same bundle I got hat in time from
oh hey, there's some cyberpunk 2077 twitch drops

No Metroidvaniyas smh
I don't even know my top 5
Zelda is a metroidvania
Me neither, there's absolutely no hope of me compiling a top 25 list
Also Shovel Knight
these are in order btw
Besides TLOU, and Elden Ring
I can't believe your least favorite videogame ever is Super Mario 3D world
Half Life 2 might be a bit higher actually
I can probably make lists constrained to specific subcategories within a specific franchise, but expanding it beyond that would make the task rather impossible. Played far too many games that I've quite enjoyed for various different reasons.
now to do top 25 movies
Do top 25 videogames of each five year period
omg I was not the only one
this piece of shit sign me out every single time
Nintendo turned 134 last weekedn

aw man I was about to post this https://derpibooru.org/images/2790967
lolll
Will voice actors be involved too? GTA VAs, for example.
Michael Hollick, the voice of Niko Bellic, wasn’t paid much despite GTA IV being a multi-million success.
Most of the video game actor related stuff is voice acting so yes. Some more modern games are also using motion capture stuff so they're doing more outright acting than voice acting, but it should include both
https://twitter.com/vgc_news/status/1706639212802363597? @mossy flume
Makes sense.
Its literally the full game.
And you get a free demo to try and see if you like it before shooting to buy it.
That's really smart.
...I had no idea they were putting RE4RE on phones
considering how well it performed on my laptop that could work
No they're priced too high (in Canada)
Considering its been $60 dollars for many years, I think it has to go up unfortunately.
But I doubt it'll go to employees.
Mfw most games in Canada are$90
Yes

At least on console they are
They're a bit cheaper on steam
Some of them not all of them tho
honestly, fair
it is not a mobile game
it is a full AAA game that now can run on a phone

Okay, please be wrong and please tell me some overly greedy corporate fuckhead didn't actually say that. If so, bro, get them out of here
Didn't say what?
Should have had one to begin with but some lessons have to be learned the hard way
Maybe Hitman devs should learn the same lesson

How many games have we had delayed this year? It’s like a lot.
I thought we finished the marathon of mega releases already; what are the big games this month?
October has Super Mario Bros Wonder 🥳
C2077 Phantom Liberty
Spider Man 2
Cities Skylines 2 next month
Super Mario Wonder next month
Uhhh
I think there’s one or two more as well
Arkham Trilogy on Switch
This holiday season’s itinerary is insane
Ys X Nordics will release in a day, but only in Asia for now
Payday 3 happened, of course
Oh shit, the new Forza Motorsport too
Next month
MGS Collection Vol. 1
It just keeps going
Mario RPG, Persona 5 Tactica, Call of Duty MW3… I think you get the point
Did you get the cyberpunk DLC?
All of that is this year
Yep
I started a new save file so it’ll be a bit before I get to it
Be carful because there’s an Easter egg you can do that won’t let you progress through the DLC and you will have to load up a previous save.
...That doesn't sound like an easter egg
That sounds like a bug
This was originally scheduled to come out 3 days before CoD:MW3 did.
Probably wise to get out of the way.
No it’s an actual Easter egg if you leave the area on the first mission a cutscene plays.

but fair enough that'll keep a lot of people busy
