See the elevator with the three heads? It can go up to three times. If you go up three times, go down once
anyway you don't need 100% items/health/fervour
I assumed as much but I went hunting for the last Miriam challenge and then went straight to the arcade, guess I can go take a look there now
afaik Isidora's the last major piece of content to do before you go meet the final bosses
Have fun exploring
and, well, delivering Isidora's drop to the NPC that wants it
(in case you do finish the game tonight I should mention I'll have to go to sleep soon)
oh there's the last guy
Not sure how far away from the end I am so I don't know if I'll finish tonight especially if I'm gonna fight the optional bone lady boss
you're very close
By the way, one of the fervor upgrades is in a super secret room. ||In the jail area, there's a right hallway with a lion-headed mace guy to the right and a door you emerge out of. Behind the mace guy is an exit you can backslide out of, but opposite the mace guy is a breakable wall.||
yuuuusss
I guess that's it for this area then..
I got the three dudes so I gotta do something with these items now
congratulations, you are now as guilt-wracked as it is possible for any mortal soul to be
awesome
"How do you know I’m mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”
Typically, fictional worlds strive for immersion: limiting themselves to certain parameters — even if those limits are more fantastical than reality. But there’s another kind of fictional world, the kind that shatters the confines of the sta...
noooooooo dammit I was too late
This quest is not easy to correctly do
a lot of the quests are hard to get the "good" ending for if you haven't already played the game or looked up the requirements
I don't think I got anyone's good ending my first time through
should I go with the goku prayer or the lightning prayer for this fight?
I literally did it in the worst possible order since I didn't get the required item until after I freed the lady
Debla of lights is more damage and has invulnerability frames
I don't think I have that one
I'm pleasantly surprised that my favorite prayer is also Flitter's favorite because Flitter is actually good at optimal builds
Talk to the guy in the confession window
Bring him all the remains he wants
You may also want the rosary bead that improves prayer damage and the one that makes prayers faster
ah the Tentudia quest?
I do remember completing that well before I finished my original run so that explains me having debla long enough to figure out I liked it

I had gotten the hair I think but I didn't seem to have given him all the other ones for some reason
I thought I'd give all of them at once
anyways, there it is
oh yeah, there are some NPC interactions where you have to talk multiple times to progress multiple steps in their quest
Personally, I use the lightning spell to deal with flying enemies out of frame, debla of light for bosses, lorquiana for situations where I don't want to get close, and the three sister spell for rooms with many enemies
I always forget to use prayers outside of boss fights
so just debla and lorquiana when I'm thinking about it
By the way, Ixrec, can you help me verify this translation? It's an AI generated location name
山の黄色い子姫の部屋
but yeah if you're worried about Isidora, having a debla build will make her wa easier
The yellow mountain princess's room? Something like that?
The yellow princess's mountain estate?
yama no kiiroi kohime no heya = the room of the yellow (ko???) princess of the mountain
so yes the main issue with your first guess is that the "yellow" applies to the princess, not to the mountain
the second issue is that "子姫" is... weird, I dunno why you'd put 子 in front of 姫
Kohime is an archaic term for princess
"princess" is not the kind of word that needs a child version the way "cat" has "kitten"
Makes sense
huh, ok, I wasn't seeing that in my dictionaries
...in fact google seems convinced that 子姫 only shows up in the proper name for a specific type of potato
but whatever it's AI-generated
Thanks for the help. I'll mark this one as a bunk
and "room" is correct for 部屋, definitely not "estate"
I think that's everything in your guesses
Yeah. I'm testing a product, and it appears to be good at Japanese despite little intentional training
and now I definitely need to sleep
Good night
Nice work
gimme yo orb lady
my playthrough really picked up in this latter half lots of fun stuff
Alright I've been playing for... 354 minutes
that's enough for now
Lots of progress, good sesh
fun stuff (Miriam challenges aside)
Apparently most of these skins I got are from the very last update so that's nice
love her design though, it's like a mix of Malenia with Sister Friede, the absolute most terrifying combination
Love the Souls trope of ''the hardest bosses in the entire game are usually female''
"The most powerful Xbox ever, now adorably all digital".
So they just straight up removed disc backwards compatibility with the 360 disc games and xbox og disc games.
They made it look like an Apple's Mac Pro trashcan, and somehow a lookalike bootleg at that. I guess innovation can be done!

Alexa, design a game console for me
''what's the perfect game console design? Why one that looks like me but bigger of course
''
The Xbox Series S doesn't have any disc support either.
At this point I'm pretty sure disc drives are only included on consoles at all because people throw fits if they aren't there and then don't use them anyway.
Sure, I don't like exposed discs to be honest. But this still implies they're removing backwards compatibility, and some folks who were planning on getting an Xbox on that will now have to buy the current variant fast before the refresh.
So that's neat.

For certain values of "fast" meaning "sometime in the next two years"
Assuming none of these timelines have slipped and the plans are still unchanged
Since 2020, famously a year that had no impacts on scheduling
Backward compatibility is such a double-edged sword
It is.
Always has been.
Imagine when technology starts to deprecate current cpus in favor of RISC-V or ARM for the masses, or if you're Microsoft... Cloud computing.
Consoles have gone through many random architecture changes
The 360 discs you mention cannot possibly actually run on an Xbox Series X except through emulation anyway.
moving to digital downloadables kinda help in terms of compatibility
Unless you're Nintendo and do a literal reset moving on to the next console
Correct, but they use the discs as a way to verify that you "own it" and allows you to play said game.
While still being inside of course.
I don't think a move to ARM would be terribly relevant to that.
They could still do something like that
lots of things be happenin
I think it’s impossible to determine anything based on these leaks. They’re far too early into the planning stages for generation 10 to mean anything at all.
Knowing Microsoft, they'll probably do whatever comes out first at this point.
I do not understand
is there a BotW thread? discord's forum search function blows chunks
LOL why is Zelda and Hamataro combined?
Yeah I was thinking about that, seems hilariously random
I've been searching if there's actually a secret crossover or something
Someone was playing the GBA Hamtaro game and found it was pretty much a 2D Zelda ripoff in its design, so that thread combo happened during the discussion
LOL
I don't think Hamtaro is a 'rip off' of Zelda
Ixrec just happened to read about Hamtaro and played it and was talking about it there
I was seriously wondering what Hamataro is, I thought it was some obscure game franchise or something
It's little hamsters big adventures
I think someone else had changed the name and probably misspelled it
Hamatro
A really good example of this comes from...the military. It is pretty much a truism that any military worth its weight will have plans to fight basically everyone else on the planet, partially because, hey, now you have a plan just in case and partially because it gives staff officers and especially trainees at war colleges something somewhat useful to do.
"Sir we need money for a new weapon"
"Why, you already have enough"
"But what if"
but what if bigger gun for bigger pew pew
Yakuza 8, Jan 26, official.
I would also not say "rip off", especially since Hamtaro (shockingly) didn't have any of the Zelda combat
but it was made by Shigeru Miyamoto, and the easiest way to describe Ham-Ham Heartbreak's core gameplay loop is run around talking to NPC hamsters and picking up/using items, which feels a lot like the overworld quests you'd typically get in a Zelda game
so yes it was natural to bring up in that thread and that's why the joke name happened
I have fixed the typo
Mortal Kombat 1 proves to be too much for the Switch. The load times are egregious, there are numerous bugs plaguing both graphics and gameplay, making for a poor quality port of a great game that's all around aggravating to play. Our review: https://t.co/gaJPvUPCwD

when was the last time a major game got a 3/10
That’s just for the switch version.
yes, I read the tweet
I’m not sure the last time a game got a 3/10 for the switch
I completely get it though
we kinda left shitty demakes behind back in the 7th console gen
if you can't release a game for a console at this point... just don't
If this were 2008 and we were seeing the newest COD released as a shitty downgrade on PS2 people would be kinda numb to it, but that practice has been kinda dead recently.
mm-hmm, that made sense in a time when people mostly picked a single console because of the vibe of exclusives it tended to have and simply could never play all the other platforms' games, but now that most games we care about are either cross-platform or are PC + 1 console "exclusive", the norm is either do at least some of your gaming on PC, buy a console that's powerful enough to play everything, or buy the Nintendo console and play mostly Nintendo games
Also developers tend to care about their brand and image, and if you release a shitty demake for a console it makes the console look bad
Like if you wanna play the real MK1 you need xbox or playstation, but the Switch gets a pity port thats total trash. Makes the Switch look underpowered and very cheap
The Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 is currently the butt of many internet jokes for its eye-popping visuals. Now, NetherRealm's Ed Boon said the Nintendo Switch version will "absolutely be getting an update." https://t.co/uzhi079p9J
Sure Ed.
they say this every time a game is received poorly, it doesn't even count as news unless and until they actually dramatically improve it
(even Redfall's gotten better since launch, but not enough that it would make sense to start telling people to give it a fair chance, the way we do with No Man's Sky now)
No Man's Sky was only possible because it wasn't a larger company
Games like Anthem can't be rescued even if the developers are willing and capable because their executives just cut their losses.
Cyberpunk2077
I wonder how much testing they did for the switch
CDPR is a smaller company than EA still
Cyberpunk 2077 never actually got that good it just got some bugfixes
No Man's Sky is a different video game than when it released
yeah, a lot of the famous flops were still decent games even in their poor launch state, especially if you knew where to look for the better and worse content
The Witcher 3 did show they have a track record of significantly improving games beyond launch
the fame comes from the gap between hype/expectations and reality
The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk show CDPR can release whatever they want and get praised for it
The Witcher 3 was great
I also think the main story line of Starfield is fun.
It wasn't idle praise
Pokemon Company be like: ha hold my pokebeer
Talking about a few of the games I couldn't be bothered to finish the 100% on, even with all the reviews.

"This game is stressful and I am not good at it."
Yeah
I feel that
What would be games that managed a good comeback? NMS obviously, and I'd say Cyberpunk is on the list as well. I played it about 6-7 months after release and it was fine. Some minor bugs still but not the stuff that was at launch. What else is there?
cyberpunk
That started out as a lot worse

Fallout 76
Hot take but we hype things, especially games, up too much these days
Is 76 actually fun now?
For Honor.

Yup! It's basically a multiplayer Fallout game now, with NPCs, a storyline, and such. It's honestly one of the most polished Bethesda Fallouts now.
Honestly, F76 has one of the nicest communities I've run into. Lots of folks help out newbies, giving them free stuff or help with a quest. There's some jerks, but they're not as common as most multiplayer games.
Also Cyberpunk is a good game, it just was a failure of marketing setting the expectations waaaay wrong for that game (and well, releasing on last gen consoles that clearly couldn't handle the game was also a mistake)
Don't get me wrong, they deserved all the shit they got
If anyone joins F76 on PC, let me know. I can throw some things your way to help, or craft some items for you.

But if the expectations for the game were "Eh, Deus Ex HR with a better story and some okay open world mechanics" it'd have been a whole different ballpark
the prospect of playin two mmo games is terrifying
in the sense that my free time is already heavily single minded
It's probably gonna be doable once you reach the end of MSQ, it becomes a lot more seasonal as a game unless you do savage raiding
last weekend i was chattin with my sister n she asked me "so how far are you in that game you play all the time anyway?" (meanin ff14) n when i explained that if i wanted to i can always find something to do, she in a very dramatic fashion said "but that means you're NEVER playing another game again!"
which was just a little bit funny but also, rood, i literally played like two levels of mario odyssey with her that day

and i mean im totally not obsessed with ff14 side content. definitely not. what are you talkin about
There are a couple of nuggets sidecontent that you can do for a long time, or that is repeatable (eureka and Bozja, or the Island) but for the most part you do catch up and finish the stuff.
We should also try to reach level 200 of POTD, it shouldn't be that impossible in 2, I kinda stopped trying SOLO for the moment but I'll eventually get back to it
I learned way too many things about that place to give up with nothing to show for it
deep dungeon stuff would b fun to do again, i kinda miss it
there's also one in ew, is there not?
coolio, ill definitely try it out when i get there
For the later levels
so long as we keep the memes in that thread its fine lmao

missed the convo, but they should have just released the new mortal kombat game on the normal xbox one tbh lol
would have looked and ran way better
Oui oui, Emily
You know it's hard to make a "Spot the main character" joke when everyone is technically a main character, this being set in an MMO and all.
Fucking backseat mods, i stg
he already looks like he needs to touch grass with that hair, that attitude just sealed it
this game has fun characters
It's a good game
Though they should probably make more character art
They reuse too much
That's every Blasphemous achievement
(Turns out, the achievement where you need to talk to corpses requires you to talk to each one and then wait for the dialog to finish or else it won't trigger)
I got Mortal Kombat 1. Its pretty fun
hm oke
so so far in CrossCode there's the Trial of the Ancients as the presumably the Main Questline
and apparently despite the advances in AI they can't pass the Turing Test
i can imagine that will age poorly
Overall, Phantom Liberty has a much firmer grasp on what kinds of stories can be told in Night City. Check out our full review of the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion here: https://t.co/dJSDtcvURr

now you can play Blasphemous 2!
I'm waiting for it to go on sale
You wait for everything to go on sale
yep
That's right. That's how I can afford to buy a lot of games on a very limited budget
purchasing power parity is a meanie
The game won't rot or anything, so I might as well wait until it's ripe
I got Blasphemous for 23.97 SR at the same time I got Wargroove.
The full price is 89.99 SR
So I got it for six dollars at 26% of the price. Right now if I wanted Blasphemous 2 I would have to pay four times as much https://i.imgur.com/9Ce0iAP.png
I don't think it's four times as good
B2 is pretty much exactly one Blasphemous of content, yes, lol

that's just what the series is called
but in this case i think the title is justified
Play the Ghostrunner 2 Demo now on the Epic Games Store 👀
Ghostrunner 2 launches October 26, 2023! https://t.co/d7ws4CsWkm
I don't need to play the demo, after playing the 1st one I know I want to play it
To clarify things, in his "worst MMO ever" he doesn't usually just bashes a game, it's just how the series is called, it's actually often pretty positive on the games he tries, within the low expectations of a budget or old MMO
ah, I was not aware of this series
Why? This seems good to me
seems reasonable as written
who knows if it'll be enforced, and it's a drop in the bucket compared to all the other issues, but this specific policy sounds desirable

https://twitter.com/counterstrike/status/1704541038633959492? Could be releasing next Wednesday.
It would make a lot of roblox games unplayable.
Since you couldn’t do thing such as sell gear or cosmetics to players due how broad the language is
It looks like they already backed down from it
I am confused how that comes out of the wording above, but I guess it bols down to a lack of familiarity with Roblox that makes it pointless for me to discuss further
It literally says that you must sell cosmetics though
It says that if you use a marketplace item in an experience that's not yours, you gotta prompt the players to buy that item and I'd they decline you have to ask again each time. Additionally you can't bypass this system by using items that are no longer for sale

Thanks for letting me know
speaking of foxes
my Tunic rando is apparently cursed to always make me do early backwards quarry
No problem Merc
Oh mah gah
Can't replace perfection
I wonder if I can finish P3P before P3R comes out
I think the point is, in Roblox you can kinda make games using items you have.
So let's say I have a fancy sword, and in the game I make, the player that is playing can use that sword that I put in my game to kill something.
The changes says that when they do, they have to be prompted to buy a sword equivalent from their store when they equip it, and if they can't, I can't use it that way in the making of my games.
That probably wouldn't be that bad, except that it's retroactive which means if I did 12 games that used that sword I have to go change them now.
I think Roblox is generally dumb but the change is just annoying as hell and I can sympathyse for that
Did the codes work for you?
Not sure, I finished the game and uninstalled it a few days ago, thanks for the thought tho
yeah that makes more sense
No problem.
we'd probably need an actual Roblox expert to judge it, depends so much on context
If they had to apologise it was probably pretty bad, Roblox users are used to be exploited like mules, if they got mad it must have been egregious
Oh gosh no I disagree there. Like a lot of platforms, any time they make any change, I hear a lot about it from the ravid fanbase. It's like people you use YouTube, though, they will still use YouTube
actually now that I think about it, YouTube never apologizes so I take it back.
at youtube's scale it's kinda impossible to make them apologize lol
Youtube acts more like a force of nature
They don't have a face, don't care, they just exist
That makes sense. If it's retroactive then it's gonna screw over a lot of people
You don't expect the river that flooded your basement to apologise
If I had the river's email I will ask it to apologize
every userbase contains a range of people who inherently dislike change and inherently kinda don't care, so it takes a lot of experience with the userbase to judge what it an unusual bad reaction, as well as feedback channels that make it possible to judge that at all instead of just amplifying the low signal users

Holy crap, Virtual Villagers. I remember playing that when I was a kid.
oh man insane aquarium! love that series
I remember it having a really shitty thing about it though where you had to log onto the game every day or else your villagers would die randomly. One time I didn't log in for two days and when I logged back on all the villagers were dead, and that was the day I never played it again as a kid.
yeah, game mechanics that are like "you missed a day so things go very bad" are good for keeping people around short-term, but as soon as something happens (like, a vacation or illness or being out late or whatever) it can make people give up on a game. I'm glad most games have gotten away from that nowadays.

I DID ALL 3 TOWERS FOR NOTHING?
Strangely I got the achievement for clearing 3 towers before the one for clearing 2
i think this game didn't intend for me to beat Normal/Hard with two stars
(one for getting halfway up and the other for doing the full thing, since the enemies scale up massively after the halfway point)
I was surprised that so many clips of the trailer were just the date with Elizabeth
She is best girl though

Me: Huh, weird, I can't find Assassin's Creed Mirage on Steam. When is it coming out?
it's not coming to Steam, only Ubisoft's store
Me: ....okay, so when is it coming to Steam?
You mean, "when is it coming to your local piracy site"
Well it'll have denuvo, so probably not for a while.
It'll probably come out on Steam whenever their store fails again like when they released all other AC games on steam
Why anyone would actually want to buy another AC game is beyond me but I don't judge
Yeah, they said not too long ago that they'll just put all their stuff on Steam going forward. I guess they gave up on that very quickly.
I guess they wanna see if they can actually convince people to use their store one last time
Well now I don't know when I'm going to get to play Mirage, then
Actually using the Ubi launcher on my computer upstairs sounds annoying.
I'm pretty sure denuvo no longer works effectively
There are still over a hundred denuvo games that haven't been cracked despite being out for some years.
Hmm.
Only one or two denuvo games were cracked in 2022 from what I'm reading
Denuvo is very hard.
The only reasons Denuvo games actually get cracked are because of...
- implementation errors which break it
- Dev or publisher releases a version without it
When properly implemented, it just... isn't.
Empress seems to be the only person who has been able to successfully break Denuvo (or at least some specific versions of it) outright but they don't do very many games.
It also takes them like three weeks of solid work.
Publishers have a habit of taking Denuvo out a few months after release anyway.
I wonder exactly what reasoning they use for that
I think it's for performance reasons
I get that the main purpose of DRM is to inhibit piracy during the hype peak of launch day where you can convert many of those potential pirates into customers through mere inconvenience
but why go to the trouble of removing it afterward
performance? hm, maybe
And only the first month of release is the most critical time for revenue once a game comes out. Afterwards the effect of piracy isn't the most meaningful impact on revenue in the world.
I've actually never seen numbers on Denuvo perf impact
I've seen a lot of mixed claims about its impact, but I think something like 10% hit is roughly what I typically see
damn, okay, that makes sense on that metric alone then
(Incidentally this overhead is why there's concern about Denuvo for Switch...)
I also wonder if there's an element of, after the hype peak you spent all that marketing budget on, maybe allowing piracy is more effective for long tail sales from word of mouth?
I could believe that.
likely depends a lot on audience size and genre and so on
Piracy does have a moderately positive impact on sales sometimes.
I really loved the shareware era for that
As someone who grew up on a place where piracy is the norm I've come to realize a lot of people had the same experience of pirating either because they're kids and don't have money or just don't have money to buy games anyways, or they're just testing the game to see if it runs
Honestly the only people that still pirate regardless I've noticed are just assholes and always have this "lol who cares I'll pirate anyway" attitude
like, everyone played DooM's Knee Deep In The Dead. A lot of people pirated the rest and DooMII. But a lot of people decided it was worth buying. And people still buy it years later for $5 or whatever.
I was struggling financially and that's how I got into piracy, given that demos weren't available or I just wouldn't be able to afford to buy the game for months or years. I did eventually buy all the games I could down the road.
As kids our schools gave us these little laptops that they were implementing into every school and one of the default apps it had was Doom lol
So as kids we played Doom all the time
I've never played the original Doom XD
a few weeks ago my wife actually bought some piano music that she'd photocopied when she was a kid
Maxis games, Star Wars, Lego, and Nintendo games were my thing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm8y6kzXwEU is one of her showcase pieces and she was trying to get back into piano and was like "I don't seem to have my music, well, I should probably pay the 5 bucks and have a legit copy anyway"
I couldn't say if piracy has any positive impact on sales but then again I come from a region where piracy is and has always been extremely common and also probably is not the main demographic for sales for most companies anyways
I... don't even know what that is
unless it's just one of the base game's level names
Yeah. They did that for a while generally after a year itll be on steam on a sale
I just buy it on there store because it makes you use it regardless of steam purchase or not
Episode one of three
Has like nine or eight levels
When Doom was originally released, you were free to share the game as long as you didn't share episodes two and three
(later, an unofficial episode 4 was made by one of the creators)
episodes 1-4 were packaged together in an official release at some point
it is very interesting that demos are so rare now
Ultimate Doom in 95
You've missed out the demo renaissance
I can only assume it means that the number of people who will buy a full-priced AAA release on launch based on advertisements and preview footage vastly outnumbers those of us who would only be won over by playable gameplay
oh did they come back?
Steam Next Fests offer developers increased visibility if their games have demos
I don't even know what that is
Remember when games had demos bundled into other games
And sometimes the full version of the game was in the demo so people speedrun it
It's an irregular valve organized event that showcases unreleased games so you can play the demo and wishlist it
Does games having a demo available three weeks per year qualify for a renaissance?
#1032716748887179434 message
Well it's resulted in a lot more games having demos even out of the organized time
Especially since I'm pretty sure they have a tendency to disappear the demos after the week is over
RE4 and SF6 had demos and that was sick
"there was a demo but it's gone now" is a thing I've run in to several times
case in point, that's a list of 7-8 sales/festivals/events/etc in the span of maybe 3 months
All I know is I see demos a lot more often when I look at game pages nowadays
there are just too dang many for anyone to keep track of it all while also actually playing the games
Also "there is a demo but it's only on Windows despite the game being available on various other platforms"
lol steam fix your shit
People makie demos and then take them down? Why? I thought only Nintendo did that and that always came across as extremely weird
Not weird at all, pretty in line with Nintendo
Taking down demos for unreleased games does seem understandable
They are not necessarily representative later on
Well, yeah, but it is nonetheless a very weird decision to make
Nintendo also does this for games that are released
Or puts a timer or limit on number of times they can be launched
Lots of companies do time-limited demos but they instead call them Open Betas.
Well this one is a pretty standard variety of demo
Don't want players to have so much fun that they lose interest in the game
Foam Stars does sound like an interesting combination
Is there anything that Not Splatoon™️ offers over Splatoon aside from "It's on PlayStation"?
Can't give people enough time to actually think and force them into the purchase with an artificial arbitrary limit
Isn't the point of a demo to have an artificial arbitrary limit
In order to get people to buy the entire game
Well ideally the demo is just a small slice of a game
The foam is three dimensional! I don't know whether the game does anything interesting with this but it feels like it could
Adding a timer and other limits on top of that slice seems unnecessary
I don't care, I just find it weird
Sony has an entire section of time-limited playstation demos.
TIL
I could understand time limits being the ideal definition of a demo for certain genres, like maybe roguelites?
a time limit on top of regular slicing does sound like overkill though
Dead Space Co-Creator Glen Schofield Leaves Callisto Protocol Studio https://t.co/2xEt9eGVdZ
It's worth noting that these are all "here is the entire game, you can play it for four hours" or similar.
yeah, that makes sense
I used the Cyberpunk 2077 demo to extract the save game from the PS5 after they launched cross saves
"the save game"?
(I originally refunded it but then played through the entire game before Sony actually took back the licenses a month later, so I had a state where I had a saved game but no license to play it)
The demo, being the full game but with a time limit, picked up the old save and uploaded it into the CDPR cloud
Where I later picked it up from a PC copy
oh your save
Yes, sorry
I'm not talking about demos
Even if I was, getting rid of a demo is dumb, pretty sure the chainsaw demo is still up
But the topic is demos
and I was replying to something Midnight said about nintendo games that are released
Which was also about demos.

Denuvo generally impacts performance in CPU-bound situations, but not GPU-bound situations. A lot of recent AAA releases are CPU-bound though, even without Denuvo
were these OLPC laptops by any chance?
Most games nowadays remove it after 6 months to a year after launch now
I remember the "hype" around giving laptops to children in schools
and OLPC was one of the most notable ones
lol spot on, we call them ''XO'' or ''Ceibalita'' in here
holy crap
Sick.
Speaking of Tunic, I'm lost and don't know what to dooooooo
Same
I feel like I need to go to the ||Quarry but keep taking damage no matter which side I approach it|| D:
Another loose end cut off
do you want actual help?
Reverse quarry time
I do D: I clearly need some ||jump ability from somewhere but I suspect that's in the quarry itself. I have the red and green crystal thingies and beat the siege engine and librarian||
because of the nature of Tunic I'm going to go an obnoxious length to avoid potentially spoiling anything I don't strictly need to spoil
so first off, how far into the quarry have you gotten exactly?
I''ve approached it from both sides ||upper snowy door path and the forbidden path|| so I have the fast travel option
so you already know what the yellow squares do?

now what precisely happens where you can't progress further
Tcher
||My HP starts draining, max hp total as well so I hesitate to go any further than that. The path near the fast travel/save option has three quarry mobs and one of those stones you pray at that usually go into the ground, but this one is corrupted||
ok so it is the thing I thought it was
hm
do you know what the small tuning forks do?
Yep, I have the ||grapple||
ok, here goes then
||You have to tank the HP / max HP draining. That effect has limits and will not kill you outright, although of course it makes it easier for anything else to kill you.||
||If you've already explored the other areas for upgrades, and activated the (reachable) bonfire in the quarry, then you've pretty much done what there is to do to make this area easier. It's not as scary as it seems, you just have to be careful and patient.||

don't worry, I did this on my first playthrough without ever even finding the main entrance or figuring out how to activate the local bonfire
boy did I feel stupid after that

also my Tunic randomizer is seemingly cursed to keep making me do backwards quarry
I swear I will use the goddamn front door this time if it kills me
Well, having taken that in and done one exploration until I got ||shot||, I decided I'll investigate more of the quarry tomorrow
the paradoxically "nice" thing about the HP debuff is that it kinda doesn't matter since many of the enemies there mostly one- or two-shot you anyway

it's a late game area for a reason
Am I wrong in thinking there's an area west past the ||West Garden map?|| I could swear there's an arrow there
oh that arrow
I believe ||that's just a hint about the path you can walk along despite being just slightly underwater||

@quiet swift tcher the memes get even better
They used the pc version with switch graphics to show the trailer and left in a steam achievement pop up
Ooohhh noooooo
how does that get past the editors
I wonder if this potentially opens them up for legal issues, unless they issue refunds for every single switch copy...
Christ, that hand in the picture is gonna give me nightmares.
I don't think there are any laws about exactly what kinds of "not quite the game being advertised but very close to it" footage you're allowed to use
I also don't know, but the footage they show is very clearly not representative at all of the product, especially if the footage is actually just the PC version with lower settings
I'm not arguing it's ethical
which probably still looks better than the switch...
only that you have to argue a hell of a lot more than "it's misleading" to make a court case
it's very normal for advertisements to contain visuals that have nothing at all to do with the product being advertised, or show a misleading subset of completely real gameplay
I think the trailer would need to have explicitly claimed the footage was of the Switch version for there to be a potential legal problem
I know, unfortunately
which is why I was wondering, that one Pokemon game was so bad that they actually offered refunds so I wonder if this will be a similar situation or if they're going to try and patch this up as quickly as possible and hope everyone moves on
trailers are usually recorded in a non-realtime manner, so that they never exhibit frame drops and can use Ultra+ settings at no visible cost
(indies don't always do this though, due to lack of time or knowledge)
MK1 is not exactly a game I expect people to go to the switch version to play anyways, I wonder if they even planned how the game was going to be like in the switch or if they didn't really think much about it
trailers also tend to feature spatial/temporal supersampling, or generated motion blur that is not available during gameplay
yeah, at some point even "we recorded this on a very high end machine" is arguably misleading, or they could just edit out the frame drops... ultimately this is why reviews are different from advertisements
MK1 Switch does feel like a situation where surely someone knew it'd be this bad but someone else was making the executive decision
Oh my god someone pointed out in the comments of the video you can totally see the steam logo on the username profile right after the achievement pops up
As always, I feel bad for the devs

Video...
Huh…
I suspect this is a remake rather than a remaster
Or really, it just looks like they took the base game and then aggressively modified it. Definitely more than just a texture upres and some spiffy lighting, they redid a lot of the assets outright.
So I’d say it’s a mix of remaster and remake
You can see that the background graffiti is simply different
People assume it got a similar treatment to metroid prime
Doesn't look like a remaster to me, looks like a full on remake just like Link's Awakening
That’s my assumption as well
Underlying system is the original game with probably updated code here and there, but all the assets and scripts were redone to varying degrees, sometimes even redone from scratch while using the original as a reference
Dark Souls 1 may just be the most influential game of the 2010s. But what if I told you that even with a history of a rushed development, the game underwent several major changes after release to get it to the state it is in today. This video will look at many of these changes to see what Dark Souls 1 was like on release and un-patched
| Music ...
day 1 release Dark Souls sounds like absolute hell jesus christ
curse stacks, no purging stones from the undead merchant, super bare bones merchants with less items to buy, significantly less souls per enemy and boss, bosses give no homeward bones, no guaranteed drops from bosses, the menu doesn't even tell you how many souls you need for next upgrade
It was the dark souls of dark souls

Oh that looks fun
Curse stacks?!
Yeah
Why?????
So you learn to stop running into basilisks
Lmao I guess you would
I mean I've never gotten cursed twice anyways, but that's so hilariously mean 😭
You had to go all the way through ghost town to see Oswald, too
No easy sources of purging stones
Right, that's so fucked
That could soft lock the game for a lot of people lmao
Man, I'd have been kinda annoyed day one coming from demon's souls. Unless that game's day one was similarly rough
Pretty sure it was more annoying
In what way?
The stupid world tendency mechanics, general world design, even clunkier controls
Imagine hating on demon's souls, smh
I do actually really like how curse works in the final build.
It's no big deal if you've played before, but if it's your first time getting cursed, this random goofy ass enemy can pretty much derail your playthrough and send you on a mission to figure out wtf you need to do to fix it.
I definitely had a moment of panic like "Oh my god, is this permanent?!"
That's pretty much what happened to me
If you get sick enough, you instantly die, your HP gets halved, and you have to find a cure for it
BUT
The only sources of the cure that refresh are NPCs, and if you stick to an NPC for too long, they get sick and die too
And THEY don't come back
The game in its current form is extremely fun. Expanding it like they are doing here seems fine since it's building on top of an already awesome system. We'll see if it's fun or just frustrating, though.
Yeah but I like puzzles where I can take my time and think
I love it when games let you really screw yourself up. Keeps you on your toes and feels more immersive
I like it as long as it doesn't take too long to get back to where you were from a fresh reset (It's fine here)
Yeah
Or at least if the game's still playable
Stacking 4 curses in day one DS is not gonna be playable for a lot of people
Yeah just don't take damage (or find one of the rare non-NPC copies of that item, which you will need for another unrelated quest)
I can get behind "the freedom to fuck up" in principle, IF it doesn't block off content or make the game less fun, which in practice is a very big if
as evidenced by all those "N things I wish I knew before playing X" lists
I have a strong feeling you would dislike the DS1 curse mechanic
But that's fine, they changed it in the other games anyways. It's also a trick that only really works once, because it's just a non issue once you know how it works
Death's Gambit's contagion was a fun thing to be freaked out and confused by for a bit but once I figured out the cure item it was a non-issue
granted I had a hint from Flitter
I think at the time I was half-stuck on a bunch of other stuff so my "actually try to solve stuff" energy was low
I instantly recognized the enemies that gave contagion because they moved like fucking 2D basilisks
So I never got contagion until I was ready to experiment
Glad to hear that the DS1 basilisks live on in other worlds lmao
I feel like a huge thing too is letting the player know that they fucked up
There are a lot of old games that will let you completely screw yourself but you won't know until it's way too late
or to paraphrase a Dishonored video I watched yesterday: "How do I know that this particular group of rats is High Chaos Rats and therefore my fault?"
every time I play anything "RPG"-adjacent, old or modern, I fear being softlocked and not finding out until 10+ hours later
Stuff like this is why I spoil parts of games for myself ahead of time
I wanna romance [x], so I google how to do so and what would lock me out of it, and so I do it right ^^
I mean, to each their own.
I never watch those videos unless I'm pretty close to the end of my playthroughs
in practice I don't watch them because a) actually calling your video that is clickbait and not something the creators I like would do
, b) most of those videos are made for games I don't play anyway
There are also people that literally read the plot of a movie before watching them.
but I do end up hearing a lot of advice like that through word of mouth here or a walkthrough I look up on purpose or whatever
If not knowing the mechanics, or the process of learning them, turns me off from your game well that's life, there are a lot of games I want to play
still, there are a lot of games that become great as soon as one weird source of anxiety like that is removed
like how now I've played through two whole Fire Emblem games because Tale could just tell me who to not waste time leveling
One thing I like the most in games is starting, being bad, and then seeing how better I am by the end of it.
If I learn all the mechanics before playing I lose that
for most games I play, a lot of that skill is muscle memory that I can't get without playing anyway
For Armored Core it was both for example
By the end of it I learned a lot about how every type of weapon worked, so I could make more effective builds, and I had a lot more muscle memory in playing the game
I don't think I would have liked the game more by looking the best build online
Personally
Yeah that's me
mm-hmm, the games I play barely have "builds" per se, at least not the kind you'd need to look up to figure out
Doing this has saved me from a lot of bad movie experiences, it is a strategy I recommend
I don't mind spoilers but also no thanks
Honestly, 99% of the times my opinion aligns with rotten tomatoes, I don't need to personally read the plot
Spoiling myself on the plot of the media assures me I'll like it before I experience it.
Yeah for some people knowing everything in advance doesn't diminish the enjoyment of a piece of media
That said, it's definitely not everyone's experience
In fact I'd say it's the slim minority
I'm very glad that I did not look up the plot of chainsaw man
I wish I'd looked up the plot of chainsaw man :/
would have saved me some time lol.
but that was something I was watching on a recc from my roommates.
rather than something I picked out for myself.
Besides if I got out to see something in theaters, it's because I already know I'll either like it, or it'll be the center of conversation for some of my friends so in both cases I'll get my money's worth.
I'll watch something I know I wont like if everyone of my friends is watching it, the conversational value outweighs the entertainment value.

Coming soon
Publisher not developers it seems
I hope the military aspects are more intuitive than their other games.
Still, we'll see if they'll be able to dethrone Civ
I definitely think their historical grand strategy games are more fun than Civilization
From the screenshots this seems to be very very similar to Civ
And them being publishers and not developers of the game, I wouldn't expect the same level of complexity of a Paradox game
I think Stellaris is Paradox's best game so I hope that this plays more similarly to that than to CK or EU
But who knows
It's definitely the most accessible
Because you start with one planet, a small fleet, one type of military ship with not much customisation, no need to do diplomacy, just exploration and expansion, and you unlock tecknologies as you go.
While in EU4 you start as France.
With all the shit that France has, and the relationships with all the other nations France knows
And the need to manage all of it
It's a much more sink or swim type of scenario
We are aware that some players may be getting stuck at "Cloud Syncing" and may not be able to open some games from the Epic Games Launcher.
We'll provide an update on a fix when we have one.

interesting use of the classic Doom logo
Now if doom guy skin is in it. Im all in
they did get Ash pretty spot on though
Yes
yes
I see.
These skins were datamined earlier but its nice seeing them
I like them. I don't play warzone but its neat seeing the crossovers.
the skins themselves work on mw2 and mw3 as well
also
alucard skin looks pretty sick too
my only gripe with the warzone/mw collabs is that the game is first person anyways
so you dont even see your skin at all
its really just wasted potential on these characters lol
like with fort at least, alucard, skeletor, and spawn would fit in much better
since you can actually see your skin
plus them doing the emotes would be super cursed
I assume they have voice lines
I see we're on the "screw the original artstyle, let's just put the most batshit insane cosmetics in the game" phase of the cod cycle
yeah lol
especially with the modern warfares, they at least tried to keep it grounded in reality with tacticool stuff at the start
Aka the fortnite phase
lol
even the footballer cosmetics during the world cup looked like they were still somewhat in the military
Maintain relevance by putting in cameos
but now... lmao
ive always found the more random/unexpected collabs in games to be the best
like when you put a character in a situation that they would never normally be in, it makes for some of the most cursed stuff
like remember when isaac clarke was in skate 3, and a golf game lol
i'm just thinking all this money spent acquiring the rights to use these IPs could be used to develop the game, or something
Thats what modern warfare 3 is for
Since warzone is technically free to play
or maybe pay the developers better

Eugh, I 100000% hate the whole concept of twitch drops.
Do you use prime gaming to claim the free games?
Sometimes
Most of the games on there I already have so i just get the free league drops
I have it but I forget that I have that
I only grab the free stuff if something reminds me it's there
Some of the games you get can be good.
omg Ash hiiiii

You said Ash and I followed the reply, only to be disappointed it wasn’t Ash Ketchum
Imagine a Mario bros skin in warzone
lol
It wont happen but it would be funny
Sorry mods, I have to.
cod has even less of a chance of getting nintendo characters into their game than fort does
epic tried to get samus
nintendo wanted it so she could only be used/seen/bought/etc on switch
so epic said nope
Luigi's looking more like a Carlos than a Luigi
war really changed him
those kinda look like the snes blasters
It came out around that time so makes sense
Also Nintendo refuses to acknowledge this thing exists
Finally get to play as my man Ratonhnhaké:ton again
I would be more excited if I got to choose between Alexios and kassandra tbh
I know kassandra is the Canon option but I just love alexios va
Is that supposed to be Connor and Ezio? Because they look nothing like either of the two...
I assume they're using new models
Ezios brotherhood outfit looks weird but connor looks about the same
Ezio's blades look super short and stubby too it looks really odd
something about Connor's face doesn't sit right
Maybe an early cover?
I doubt it, I'm guessing those are new ''remake'' models of the characters but they look really odd, Connor looks alright but something about his face doesn't seem right and Ezio' doesn't look right either
Are you going to play it Nire
Imma play tf out of it
Is this unique to quest?
I don't even know what it is but I don't plan to play any AC related content for the foreseeable future, I also don't have any VR of any kind either so even if I wanted to I couldn't
If it didn't have connor in it I wouldn't have cared tbh
Ah
But when they showed connor in the trailer it was on sight
Apparently it is.
Isn't there supposed to be a way to fetch these Meta-exclusive games and run them with an Index instead?
You have a Quest though
Indeed
I think the answer is essentially no, since Quest apps are basically fancy android apps running in ARM land
What is your quest
It's a Quest 2 I think?
There used to be hackery for Rift games but that's not where the industry is today
What is your favorite color

The Unknown Journey Continues...
After escaping from the dystopian city of Midgar, Cloud...
I lucked out on this playthrough. There were apparently only 3 sources of Truffles, and I managed to claim the land around all of them.
(Sorry, went to make / eat dinner.)

but what about an index 2 valve
I expect that’ll happen before too long.
y'know for as memed as it is the Skyrim intro is really good and immersive
Technically. It's a terrible option though.
I've never had an issue with any micro SD cards
I use this one in mine, I think: https://a.co/d/eXYFpGP
Though ultimately I ended up also replacing the internal SSD with a 2 TB one, which is a generally much better experience.
The Steam Deck SD card reader is slow.

Oh! Nice!

@wind stump congratulations nerd
As much as I really don't like huge corporate mergers, let's be honest, Microsoft owning Activision-Blizzard is probably for the best. Microsoft's got a zero-tolerance policy for a lot of the shit that Activision pulls, and they also tend to be slightly more reasonable. Not always, but on average a fair bit more than Activision.
Why is the pic for this trophy so funny to me
Its the meme
This one, yeah

@graceful bridge what era did you choose for the game you are playing?
run it above 60 FPS for comedic effect
You there. Your finally awake
2.0 for Cyberpunk is kind of great NGL, and I say this as someone extremely letdown by the game systems at launch
Huh?
Or am I thinking of a different game? Don’t you have to choose what era you want to start in then build your empire?
Are you referring to Civilization or something else?
Civ
I'll definitely play it at some point
Civ by default starts you in the Ancient era, but you can pick a more recent one if you want.
Ah right. What did you choose?
Everyone starts at Ancient
Why even play if you're not gonna see the whole game through?
Yeah, Ancient. The only reason to do a more modern era start is for a few achievements that are in the game.
So you didn’t choose another you stayed with ancient?
Yeah it's just more fun and gives you more control
Correct
I see it’s on gamepass I might download it
Oh it’s not this is what’s on gamepass
yeah, that's a different game. Similar idea though.
Oooooh it’s only £5
Worth it if you want to try it out. Though fans are expecting Civ 7 to be announced sometime this Fall/Winter, probably relasing late next year or so.
Base game*
Check addons and DLCs

Have you played all the Civ games
Yes I know
The complete game was on sale for like $30 USD recently
Not all. I've played Civ, Civ 2, Civ 5 and Civ 6.
Unity updated runtime fee:
-Unity Personal plan remains free with no runtime fee. Cap increases from $100k to $200k
-No game with less than $1 million in trailing 12-month revenue will be subject to the fee.

Too late
expands the image to read the other conditions
huh, this actually sounds like the sensible version of the policy
6 has unofficially gone into maintenance mode, there's no announced plans for any more DLC, they're just putting out small things like new leaders to keep people interested.
of course it's still too late to repair the damaged trust
but I wasn't expecting it to get backed down this far, because the initial version was so obviously terrible
They walked back the per-install fee, allowing you to take the lesser of that fee or 2.5% revenue share as long as your game makes 200k or more in the last twelve months (or 1m USD for the Pro License)
This is still pretty bad, but they also walked back the retroactive license change
what was the old revenue share?
As long as you never update your game to future Unity versions
yeah, I think this was a "slammed door" attempt that backfired. They wanted to make a horrible policy they knew people would dislike, and then propose a less onerous (but still more profitable) version people would be willing to accept, because it wasn't as bad.
But this backfired harder than they thought, so they're walking it back further.
The old revenue share was you pay nothing
But the damage is done, I think a ton of devs are just going to abandon Unity entirely.
You just pay a monthly fee for the license
oh it wasn't even a revenue share before
(or use the free license for small games)
I answered a question from DUSKdev on a Godot Discord the other day. 🙂
duskdev?

I f*cking love this face
lmao
Ironically this is basically a repeat of the WOTC situation that happened in beginning of year
WOTC did not get damaged as badly I think
Not as badly, no.
Yeah
Unity has real competition, a lot of devs straight up left, whereas I think 5E kept most of its players, it just served as an advertising boon for other systems.
A lot of companies decided to stop using OGL, but that really doesn't hurt WotC's bottom line the way this Unity change does.
Funnily enough in both cases I was already on the "other competitor" team anyways
I use Unreal to make games and my ttrpg of choice is Pathfinder
Even the tv mode is 30 fps which is bad
Literally not even same performance as the original hardware MGS2 ran at 60 fps on the PS2 lol

am just having a laff
