of course, I see this just as I have lots of work to do š¦
fun fact: you can see this pop-up on Linux despite the limited test being Windows-only
all right, I think I'm gonna call it here for A Hat in Time Death Wishes
lots of fun stuff in there but I've hit my skill/fun ceiling
Nyakuza next?
oh I did all of Nyakuza before diving into the Death Wishes
Oh
in fact half the screenshots I posted today have the nyakuza jacket on, though the challenges keep making me change masks so it's not as obvious as it'd be with the full outfit
I figured you got it before you started playing
nyakuza?
Meow

yes, the (paid) DLC is a new area called Nyakuza Metro (I posted in-game screenshots of it the other day so here's the loading screen art)
after I found the alley cat who sells it, it became my default outfit
fortunately the game has a very loose definition of "hat"
If it's over my head it's a hat
technically cat ears are a hat
My new hat

yoooo
what are we looking at?

I'm afraid this weight of this achievement is lost on me, but that sounds cool!
oh, the framing made me think this was about getting a program to run on a device
I think I've been up there before... it's either the start or the end of a coin trail you need the wing cap for, right?
star yeag
Yes this
It's actually not that hard I've just never done it before
you get up there with a cannon, right?
Yea
Next up, Owlless
Oh I've done that many times

Has anyone else here played Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War or Bladestorm: Nightmare?
It's insane that I already forgot Jedi Survivor
So I am looking at the steam stratesgy fest thing and checking out the most downloaded demos
- What the hell, japan?
- What the hell, steam users?

It's already in Hc's wishlist

Reverse Collapse is from the company behind Girls' Frontline and has been known for a while
It's just such a typically japanse "what does this title even mean" thing

Not sure why I pinged Flitter there. Linked this from my laptop, did the emoji and it somehow attached the ping?
It's okay
Trying to fix a Skyrim disc
It just doesn't work
Todd Howard gonna send imperal guards for me buying this used
Skyrim has discs?
I recommend at least Special Edition if you're at all interested in modding the game
Xbox 360
I see
5 dollars
That's what I got Skyrim for on PC, but they don't do sales that big anymore
Now I need to work out if they still offer professional disc reserfacing in 2023
That seems expensive
Nah you could get a machine you can spin manually for like 15-20 dollars
That'll work
Or the old toothpaste and baking soda trick
Right, but for 15-20 dollars you can get a new copy
The scratchs may be too deep, it only goes to the Skyrim icon and the white fire/smoke at the bottom, then it freezes

Using toothpaste to repair light scratches on a game disc. It works on small and light scratches but not for deep ones unfortunately. Hopefully this video answers a few questions you champions were asking on the last video.

Trying out the https://store.steampowered.com/app/908770/Global_Conflagration/ demo. Listed as alpha when I load it... But visually and mechanics wise, it seems to scratch that C&C itch for now. This is from about 5 min of gameplay
Yeah! I like the toothpaste and baking soda trick but I could never do it properly
And I stopped using discs a long time ago
9 out of 10 dentists recommend
Oh yeah my brother talked about that today, saying its a other fortnite game, but he's Ć bigger goofball then me
Label?
The top bit
Oh, you mean the metadata
Might have some lucky running data recovery tools on it then
That means the data itself is damaged, you can't fix the data
Sorry, you're not being very clear
The data can't be just stored in the label because then the disc is useless. Can you explain?
The top, where it shows the name of the game
If that gets a deep enough scratch
Gg
The gray part at the bottom is thicker, that's why you can sometimes reserface it
That makes sense
It's all about the data and hoe to read the data
Typically, data is distributed evenly all over the disc.
So a scratch near the label is only a partial loss
Well now ita stuck at "reading"
Yes, you'll probably need specialized software to fix it
It's almost like
Hear me out here
Call of Duty doing these collabs in order to ape fortnite is a bad thing

Imagine waking up after being in coma since 2005 and this is what you see when you search CoD for the first time since ages.
Though sacrificing your players' good will to make All The Moneyā¢ļø has been a thing CoD has been doing for a good while now
Fun fact: Most older CoD games on Steam have unplayable multiplayer because of hackers
and Activision refuse to acknowledge or fix it https://youtu.be/KlVSpw6414U

FINALLY
Congrats
I used a pulse gun, shotgun, and two missile launchers
pulse gun is one of those that quickly destroys pulse shields?
In which case, good pick
Yeah
Especially given how you get an automatic stagger once it goes down
I was also using the boost kick for extra damage
Is anyone else here saving master duel gems for when Purrely comes out.
Week Two in for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and were getting constant updates for the Multiplayer Mod and that's Awesome! The Jakes have fully formed under the Crew Name [JKS] and we still out here waiting to get in Jakes. Huge Shoutout to the Slop Crew and all the Taggers that pulled up to make this happen.
Song Used: 2 Mello - Jet Set Sona Challenge ...
this is wild
the mods are moving so quickly for this game
No but I might save up for new Fire King stuff whenever that ends up getting added. Might be a while though
I'm thinking about buying HOI4 during this sale, but the Ultimate Bundle seems a bit too pricey
Is Starter Edition good enough?
I would say no
HOI4 has been rebalanced around the existence of DLC packs you would not have access to
and thus without the new mechanics you're straight up missing assumed parts of the game
also I can't remember but it if it's anything like Stellaris, the AI will still use things you can't,.
Nah it's fine, I only have the waking the tiger one
I think the other ones not in the starter bundle that is in the ultimate one is mainly just optional stuff, the ones in the starter bundle are the ones you want anyway
there are much better guides to each dlc online so you can get a grasp on which features they have
In the end, even just the vanilla game if you're just playing singleplayer is fine

Oh the starter edition does come with a few expansions, that's my bad, thought you meant just the vanilla game. I guess you could but you are still missing I think 3 of the big DLCs and as mentioned the game is balanced assuming those are present.
This overpriced Paradox bullshit-ry make me not want to buy the game totally ngl
Since there's no No Man's Sky thread, and I don't think there's much if any demand for one, can I discuss it here?
probably yeah
No Man's Sky is being annoying in a way where it's specifically my fault
I live on a planet that both has an aesthetic I really like, and is abundant in a few very valuable resources for crafting (tons of chromatic metal, plenty of cobalt, a bit of gold, tons of sodium)
But hey, at least I get to be a space cowboy
Pro tip for anyone else playing this game
In storms with high winds
Burrow down, then in a random pattern of 90° angles, then down again
Even if you AFK it's basically impossible for the winds to get you all the way out
The same can't be said for buildings, as I've been pulled to, and then through doors
You can also use a smaller burrow to hide from sentinels if they get too much for you
never expected this fun silly graffiti and skating game to actually engage me with the story and the characters
it has some pretty good setpieces and cutscenes too, this boss was like something out of Sonic Frontiers, honestly surprised me it's a super amazing game all around in every aspect
definitely gonna be hunting for some cheevos and gonna go complete all the areas now that I'm in the post-game
On GOG
Fr? On GoG?
No cap on GOG

I tried that game
it was
A LOT
Based on what

Apparently there was also a near year long strike against the gaming industry back in 2016
...Did you select "Die"?
Will probably only affect the triple a industry. Indie devs are fine
Then again I wouldnāt put it past activison to just use ai for character lines in warzone
Brilliant.
And I'm sure the 5,000 units and/or C-grade life support upgrade that they gave you was absolutely worth cheating death for.
They gave me a couple hundred nanites, actually
feel like WWI
8 years....
I'm mostly just having a micro existencial crisis at the fact that so much time has passed so quickly
Eight years does seem like a pretty bizarre amount of time when you think about it, for sure.
Certainly doesn't feel like it's been that long.
BOTW is also over half a decade ago too
Wait, really?
I feel old too
Wow.
Honestly, I think that catches me off guard more than the MGSV release date.
Curse you, time. Stop moving.
In a couple months BOTW is going to be 7 years old, that's a whole ass child right there
8 years next March in fact š
Just multiply the amount of time between the release of botw to now by 5 and we will all be 40 years older
I got two new WIXOSS decks and one of them is Nijisanji.
Cat mocap sounds like a nightmare
I am amazed that they aren't rolling on the ground and biting at the sensor the whole fucking time
They must have found the 5 cats in the world that wouldn't do that

sharing in case anyone else might be interested too, I had recently bought Bomb Rush so I didn't want to buy another game so soon but since I had talked about Blasphemous recently and said I might play it it's pretty cheap so I might get it
i watched a friend play through Disco Elysium, very interesting game though not one I would have played myself⦠just aināt the genre for me
Disco Elysium is beautiful
yeah i tried it out on my Switch and couldn't get into it :(
I know I don't have the focus and attention span to play that game, I would probably forget everything and would need to read every line of dialogue like 3 times to really process all the info and that's not great for a game that is all entirely about dialogue and characters
But watching a streamer play it was a good experience for me and even though it wasn't me playing I had a good time and it's one of the most beautiful games I've seen
unfortunately got to a point with it where by the end the only two audio sliders that were up were for the voiceover and UI sounds
it is a cool universe but sound wise i donāt think iāve seen a game so uniquely anxiety inducing
its a really good game, i gotta finish my hacked playthrough
hacker person
It sucks that the development history of that game is a bit troubled with a lot of tension between the creatives and the executives which ended up in them pretty much having their company ''stolen'' from them and the game too which was an ongoing situation until now which was pretty unfortunate
Seems like you can't have amazing games like this without a touch of misery in there
aye Iām told the sequel might not be something to look forward to
i changed the values so all my skills are buffed to high heavens. i would never in a million years recommend it for a first playthrough, but given this is third time i want to see all the passive checks trigger. its been really fun time when ur already familiar with the game
I wouldn't go that far I really don't know all I know is it's not bad to be aware in case anyone doesn't want to support that, although it's not as black and white of a situation as it may seem as the minds behind Disco were kind of.... assholes
It's a messy situation, there's an entire documentary about it on YT that went in depth about both sides of what happened which was pretty interesting
Following the explosive allegations that Disco Elysium has been stolen from its original creators, People Make Games uncovers a far more nuanced story than the one you may have heard so far. Buckle in, this is a big one.

Full interview with ZA/UM CEO Ilmar Kompus: https://www.youtu...
i was sold on it by the incredible narration, and the very concept of the thought cabinet
didnāt anticipate just how long the game would go on for tho, thatās probably part of why I donāt get much enjoyment from RPGs of any sort⦠theyāre a lot to get through
think Iām more of a whatās relatively quick, fast paced, and fun to replay? kind of hors
In the current state that it is I know it's probably not a game I could play even though I find it to be one of the most beautiful and fun experiences, even less in its original release state where there was no dialogue voice acting whatsoever, it's incredible to think the game got so much recognition and awards without the narrators' and Kim's voices
It's a game made for people who are into these types of games and it makes sense it's so focused on that stuff considering the entire concept was from a novel that didn't seem to have sold all that well unfortunately
almost forgot the primary reason we started doing the game in the first place, a late game scene i will not dive deep into, but I will say itās friendās favorite moment in anything
We have an entire channel on Disco we made not that long ago when Ixrec was going through it I think
we talked about it a lot there
oooh Iāll need to check that out, definitely have got a lot of thoughts though being such a big game theyāll be very in and out
the one moment that was a highlight for me and I want to say Ixrec too was || the conversation with Harry's ex-wife ||
and || the phone call || too was particularly tough
its haard to pick a favorite moment. you've got ||bear fridge, dropkicking fascist, megarich lightbending guy, sitting on the swings, the dance-off with kim, the tribunal, the phasmid.|| all such cool stuff
i dont really know which one i like the most
yeah || the swings || was a really nice moment... just a moment, but it was nice
the fucking || megarich lightbending guy ||
so stupid
I love that whenever you're in that area || your money actually goes super high up as if you automatically get more valuable just by being around him ||
it's a fun detail
such wild concepts in that game it's what makes it special, and then it pulls you back to reality with the super real situations
I like how every conversation about Disco Elysium in this chat looks like a declassified CIA document.
i love that you can get money from him by ||proposing a plan so purposefully bad it circles around into a successful outcome||
this may sound silly in grand scheme of things but my favorite may actually be whenever visual calculus goes off. the child me that loved crimi shows eats that shit up i love the change in artstyle for them
best skill forever, sorry volition
The main theme when you step out into the district of Martinaise. Part 1
I fucking love that
|| to purposefuly choose a very bad plan and then failing the check for that bad plan so it ends up being a good plan || is nothing short of genius absurdity
tis just the game mechanic workin as intended really
but i love it exactly for that
the ||kim dance-off|| may still beat it though
That's hard to beat

Mine
alas i only have a screenshot with mine
(yeah i managed to get the jackets durin that playthrough it was great)
I actually never got that and had to hear about it on youtube later
apparently every ideology has its own sidequest and I ignored all of them to focus on the case even though I thought I was doing a lot of sidequests
I got the jackets on my playthrough but never even considered ||opening the shipping container|| and never met the guy at all. When I brought my laptop and visited my dad a few months ago, he and his girlfriend played this (I got them hooked, lol), and they did discover him
not sure how i missed it first time
its not an ideology one, its a hard check
the trick is to savescum until you can get it open
oh wow these patch notes are huge
sure hope I don't accidentally get spoiled reading through these
Having patch notes thats says things like
-Fixed the visuals of "Insert important character" death cutscene in the finale of the game
I didn't read all of it just in case
but there were a lot of patch notes there
probably piled up since the first patch up until the last one since it's the first time I open the game
this map is so Metroid
well this is gonna be the first metroidvania I play after Return of Samus like over a year ago now so let's see how I like it
good pixel art, very nice
oh boss fight already
right, people did say this feels like a souls game
Nire's playing it
just in case waking up on a pile of corpses suspiciously similar to yourself wasn't soulsy enough already
I would contemplate buying Blasphemous but i have too many games to play
fwiw, as far as tone, setting and story go, Blasphemous is probably closer to Dark Souls than any of the other Metroidvanias I've played; even Ender Lilies will occasionally let two characters just have a normal, non-cryptic conversation
I still need to finish FFXVI
(I've also been told before that Salt & Sanctuary is the most Soulslike as far as gameplay goes, but I haven't tried that one yet)
And Dead Island 2
oh right, biggest difference from actual Metroid maps: you can put markers on this map
I regretted not doing from the start in my initial playthrough, it makes it so much easier to find things again after you get that one ability you need to reach it
well I died a bunch of times already and reached the point of ignoring some enemies as to not unnecessarily waste HP/estus flasks so it definitely feels like home already
I've wanted to ever since it dropped but didn't have money at the time and since the second one came out and the first one was like 5 bucks I thought why not :sunsetbounce:
I'm having fun so far
how far in are you
yeah, even in the replay I've been doing for our archipelago game, I often skip enemies as long as I'm confident they can't gang up on me from behind (most often if I've been in the room before so I know where I'm going and how to cleanly evade)
hard to say when I just picked this up and have no point of reference or clue what I'm even doing
I just got a little further from Albero if that's any help
I have it on spanish so names may be different
yep that works
probably all the important names will be obvious lol
and since it's a Metroidvania, a map screenshot is always a valid answer to that question
I'm having a hard time just because it's a new game and I'm getting used to the timings and how stuff works so I'm experimenting a lot and dying a lot which is kind of frustrating just because the save point is so far back but that's kinda how this works so I'm not mad

I did find a couple branching paths which makes me easily overwhelmed because I don't know where progress is or where I'm ''supposed'' to be going and I kinda freeze up when I have to choose but that's just a me thing and I did wish for some other paths since until that point it had been a hallway
and as you probably suspect, there is no "wrong" way to go
I will leave it around here just because I came into this from a session of Bomb Rush and I don't wanna spend like another 5 hours in this
but I will be going through it or at least try to
I'm expecting it to be not that long of a game so hopefully my interest doesn't die down in a week and I never open up the game again
you'll probably have a feel for that after you reach and defeat the first non-tutorial boss
(whichever one you go for first, can be any order)
Well in this case the ''wrong'' way would be ''you can't access this spot/area yet'' but I do assume there's no real wrong way to go I have played Super Metroid and Metroid 2 so I have a feel for these games, at least the base foundation of a game like this anyways
I have encountered some of those flying collectables that make me think at some point I'll get either a projectile beam or an air dash mechanic that will let me get to those because I found some that I just could not reach at all and there doesn't seem to be any momentum mechanic that I'm missing where I gather up speed or slide and jump to go further
yep, a lot of those you have to come back for, that's one of the things I use map markers for
one of the interesting things about replaying it now is seeing which areas I struggled with originally but breezed through this time... and which ones I struggled with again despite knowing what got me last time
I guess I couldn't expect anything else what with it being a metroidvania
it was almost immediate how I thought ''yeah I'll be coming back for you later
''
that happened to me when replaying through the Souls games a lot of times so I can understand, sometimes it's not really about knowing what to do or look out for but just having the skill to do it, hell I would die a bunch to regular fodder enemies because I got careless or distracted despite having like 100 hours in the game
I also liked the presentation of the game a lot the few cutscenes I saw so far and just the overall look is very good
very epic
music is good too, so far everything has been pretty nice
mm-hmm, I may not be able to explain the story in concrete terms but it has a very strong aesthetic identity
even the few parts that I avoid looking at directly
feel like they belong in this world and I'm just being squeamish
there's so much shameless gore
but it fits with the dark medieval fantasy setting/aesthetic
I mean one of the first things Penitente does is fill up the helmet with the blood of the boss and put it back on
that's pretty metal
calling it metal makes me imagine him doing that and then striking a victory pose

You should avoid bullying people
But it's fun smacking people with lines.
Speaking of, I had one of those matches with attackers bonus near the end and uh...
Attackers bonus made this a really lopsided end lol. #ćććŖć¹99 #Tetris99 #Tetris #NintendoSwitch

Ooh, TH19 seems to have been fully translated
nice, give me a review, I kinda want one
TH19?
Tohouh 19 probably
This is best girl
that's all you need to know

Spitting absolute facts there
Truth
that'd be interesting, really. a UFO aircombat game
Wing Commander?
ufo aircombat
WING commander
Get out.
that would be the saddest way to find out aliens are a thing
the new girl
I love her design
She's gotten so much fanart as soon as the game dropped

wait they switched dev teams? why?
Did it get a full overhaul as a game or just a new team?
man I hope it lives up to the hype, making a game like vampires bloodlines is not fucking easy and making one that's better without sacrificing what made that game so incredible is even harder
I seriously hope it's good

Grabbed a copy before the Lego Group DMCAs this
I mean, they didn't grab it at all in the several years that it's been under development, and the developer has been careful to make it clear that none of it is for profit.
Hell, he even got the original composer for the game on board with it.
that is really cool
Either way, I grabbed a copy of it too
passion truly takes people on the wildest journeys
I think the lego group doesn't even know it exists yet, that's why
I wouldnāt quite make that assumption. Nintendo didnāt DMCA AM2R for the ten years it was in the works until they hit 1.0, then it was DMCAād within hours.
And the developer has said that after he's done taking a break for a while, he's going to create an "act 2" campaign, with completely new levels and a completely new story.
It's been out for 3 weeks
Uh, wow
I think the game is safe, since it's been out for the large part of a month
man this fight took a second, I had a hard time until the point where I realized ''oh I should probably be hitting the guy that's trying to kill me with my sword instead of running away''
Lego like Nintendo is a DMCA machine, and will (of course) go after fan created content.
They took down a Garryās Mod addon which changes Half-Life 2 characters to their Legofied forms.
congrats
I forget how long / how many tries it originally took me to beat Ten Piedad, but it was definitely a while
that was also my first non-tutorial boss so a lot of it was just getting a feel for how bosses worked
I think the biggest sticking point was figuring out when sliding would get me to the other side of the boss instead of just bumping into it
I didn't like how often/easily he would corner you and how unclear it would be when and when you can't slide through, I think after a bit I figured it out sort of but it's still pretty unclear because there's not a very big visual cue and it's mostly just the one or two attacks that let you do it
right now I'm battling against an entire acid area which feels like this game's swamp area and i'm not loving it
I also got the health upgrade which had a pretty dope cutscene on it
cool stuff
mm-hmm, everyone remembers the health upgrade NPC (in both games)
fair, Desecrated Cistern is a bit of a slog until you get one or both of the relics that help there, you can always leave it for later
She doesn't show up in there but I also got the npc summon for that fight though she didn't really help out that much
indeed
I don't even know where to go so I just kind of went into the next immediate area which was this one and I guess I'm just doing it now
I think the first few times I originally did that fight I couldn't even tell if she was helping
turns out it just takes her long enough to cast her heal that every time I got that low I was dying immediately afterward, until I got gud
She calls out to me and I thought she'd drop an item or something, maybe health potions but she just casts a healing spell that takes forever and by the time she's done I'm already pummeled to death
when I redid that fight the other day for our archipelago she was useful almost immediately because I still half-remembered most of Ten Piedad's attacks (and I had no flask upgrades
)
it's a good heal it just takes a while and the first few tries since I was still learning what to even do in the fight it was pretty useless
yep
by the time I got the hang of it I wasn't getting hit enough times to really need it
I just smashed a potion into my face and that was enough
I wish I had some deep lore explanation for why smashing it on your face is how you use the heals but
that hat looks very inconvineient
other than, well, you can't drink anything without removing that silly mask
It's a low res gif so you can't see it but in the game I sort of caught Penitente drawing a little sigil into the mask with the liquid so maybe it's some sort of healing rune or symbol
oh it's a mask
mask, hat, neither's wrong
it is one big conical metal thing he puts on his head
The hat is based off of the Sambenito
the mask looks like some sort of roman inspired mask
oooh that makes a lot of sense
it may also be based off of another catholic headwear that if I post here people will probably think looks very problematic
But the name is Capirote
oh
makes sense
do people still wear those
ah and on this wiki article is that funny "confraternity" word, which I hadn't heard until Blasphemous 2
Mostly for religious reasons and during certain events/ceremonies. You'll see it more in Spain during Easter/Lent.
It's a uniform
I see what you mean
The running joke elsewhere is that Blasphemous is "Catholic Guilt: The Game", with some changes to make it fit the universe.
what kinda game is Blaspehmous
though I guess half the premise of Blasphemous' aesthetic is that it's not hard to see creepiness in a lot of this stuff
Blasphemous is a souls metroidvania.
i see
Blasphemous is a Metroidvania Soulslike known primarily for its visuals, story and setting being heavily inspired by Catholic culture
i like the aesthetic
the sequel came out just 1.5 weeks ago, and shortly after finishing it I started a Blasphemous 1 randomizer as part of Flitter's September Archipelago game, and now Nire's playing Blasphemous for the first time, so I've been particularly immersed in it lately
is the second good
both are excellent
would i like them
hmm
Do you like Dead Cells?
ive never played it
I've also never played Dead Cells lol
Good because they're not that similar
if the goal is to try other Metroidvanias, I'd recommend some less punishing ones first
im saving my money for other games right now
i played Metroid Dread does that count
No, Metroid Dread lacks Vania
Blasphemous is definitely in the "each boss taking 10+ tries is totally normal and you will learn to enjoy all the dying" category of difficulty
Ori is very good.
Ori and actual Metroids are much more forgiving
hmm
well i'll keep it on my radar, saving my money for Batman Arkham Trilogy on Switch and Super Mario Bros Wonder right now
I'm sure you'd enjoy the aesthetic because it's visually striking, and especially with Doom it's clear you don't mind if it gets quite gruesome at times
Also has one of the most beautiful soundtracks in recent games
but the Dooms (on normal difficulty) are also much more forgiving of new players
And it is fairly challenging at times
im just looking for a game to fill up my September
There's a lot of reasons why the Capirote looks like that, the short of it is that it's the same as the Sambenito in the sense that it's a hat that was used as punishment during the spanish inquisition for those who commited crimes and were in the act of penance but this one was covered as to protect the identities of the penitent ones (yes they're called that it can't get any more obvious), the pointy shape of it is also supposedly that way as to connect the penitent one closer to heaven
and it has different lengths depending on the brotherhood in each area of spain and the colors also mean different things
āļø
well that's part of why we're giving you all this detail instead of a simple "yes" or "no"
only you can decide if this sounds right for you
yeah
for all I know the aesthetic vibing with you means any amount of hard-but-technically-fair difficulty will be a non-issue
the thing is that Blasphemous sounds a lot like Hollow Knight which i didn't like
in terms of game design, they are very similar yes
but we've established before that sometimes you like and dislike mechanically extremely similar games for non-mechanical reasons, and that's fine of course
yeah
whereas I'm the type that will probably eventually try anything which can reasonably be called a soulslike metroidvania (and many of the other metroidvanias)
have you played Symphony of the Night
speaking of the aesthetics
not exactly
WHAT THE HELL ITS A FACE
why does he have a face on his abdomen
or they i guess i shouldn't assume
Welcome to Blasphemous
For twisted are the ways of the Miracle
part of the logic of Blasphemous' world is that half the named NPCs caught a bad case of divine "fuck you in particular"
oh
I love that the guy is like ''oh god what have I done to deserve this cruel punishment oh sweet merciful heavens
oh, hey dude, bring me this thing and I'll power you up man
''
His chest face sprouts a second, smaller face on the chin
I wouldn't expect anything less from a soulslike that actually seems to really do take a lot of the souls vibe and put it in the game
in Souls virtually every NPC you meet ends up having a horrible end and most of the times it's because of you š«µ
and in Blasphemous they have a habit of thanking you for it
I also like how the first speaking character in the game basically says "Just as your penance is to be a silent protagonist, mine is to give you directions. Now go thataway."
thataway being the only way you can even advance anyways /s
I don't even know what my guy is doing penance for maybe I didn't fully catch it at the beginning or it's still not really explained so far I only really get a vague understanding of what's even happening
so it's just like souls
yup
some characters have a clearly stated thing they're being punished for but a lot of them seem to be so far past whatever it was that it almost doesn't matter any more
even after getting every ending in both games and half-replaying one, and genuinely liking every ending, I couldn't tell you in clear, concrete terms wtf actually happens in any of them
oooh the collectables actually have a purpose
(I think)
iirc every item you can pick up has some purpose, even if you end up not using it because e.g. it's a bead/prayer/heart you don't like as much as the other beads/prayers/hearts
yeah this is starting to look a lot more metroid-like by the minute
I was just about to ask if you were saying that because you found the ossuary
mostly just how many shortcuts I got and how it's all connected and stuff
I meant the collectibles part but yeah lots of map connections too
also the way the map is drawn and all reminds me of Metroid a lot too
true, these colored square tiles are the most Metroid-y map of my usual Metroidvanias shortlist

Hollow Knight and Guacamelee and Ori and Ender Lilies all draw their ingame maps differently
yeah that one you're probably gonna want to stick a map marker on
ez
On an unrelated note, if anyone wants a very LGBTQ game, I've been assured that Goodbye Volcano High is very good and feelsy without being token-y.
oh yeah, I think you have more health than I did when I got here yesterday in my rando
The only health upgrade I got so far that I noticed was one but I don't know by how much it actually increased
I'm so ready for this poison map to be over
oh yeah fair, those droplets are unique to cistern
Oooooh I think I know where I got that third potion from
I found a glass thing and I probably filled it up in this blood fountain thing
I put the thing in the thing

...oh, right, there's a blood fountain in the cistern

oh well I've already found two other blood fountains in my game so too late now lol
yeah nope
ā¦I mean yeah nah
sometimes you just have to live with the guilt ~~until you find a magical guilt-cleansing-
~~
ok well
I have a plan, it might just be crazy enough to work
ive natrowed it down to 2 games i want. the Disney Aladdin and Lion King collection and Tunic
are you gonna try to get the guilt fragment then move a little to the right before dying so itās easier next time?
Iām not sure whether I actually did that, or just considered it and gave up lol
I got it
probably can't see it but I wasn't gonna risk dying in the toxic cloud again just to get the screenshot of the text
my plan worked
I'm a genius
now I know to never come back to this area again ever /s
nah I can still see that your fervour bar no longer has guilt
I want to think I will get some sort of poison resist or something because otherwise I dont' know how I'm ever supposed to get through this part
||you will, 2-4 areas later||
More health
conveniently youāve already been told how many health upgrades there are
I can't say I remember
I suspect there is a combination of upgrades and equipment that lets you cheese this, but half of it would be late game stuff anyway
||no oneās found my poison immunity in rando yet so Iāve been thinking about it||
You should hint for it
not until itās actually important
I have to donate to church?
Well, you know what they say: "As a coin in the coffer rings, a soul from purgatory springs."
AKA: possibly the very first tagline ad for scam artistry.
I don't remember was it posted, but I want to do it

Getting the first three people working on your base is funny as you learn the lore
Like
A guy who's part of the race that's basically just space Nazis tells me to go hire a guy who's part of the race that specifically wages wars to eliminate all weapons, (because of what the space Nazis did) and hire him to make weapons for me
And in-between them is another guy I hired who's just spiraling mentally because they got banned from their race's server so now they're hyperfixating on their research
Ok I should clarify they're former space Nazis
But they do still think they're the master race of space, so not great
No man sky?
No Man's Sky
I know this tends to be robot characters in general with sci-fi but the research entity I hired gives me big neurodivergent energy and I want to protect them at all costs
Fair enough
Dude goes from wildly excited to see me and tell me about their research to a full on mental breakdown because they found a weird signal interfering with the tech they refer to as their baby
I know a guy exactly like this irl but it's a trans man with autism and a plant hyperfixation
... how do Korvax reproduce?
I'm starting to wonder if like, they're gonna develop the beacon until it's sentient and then build it a Korvax body
I have found the answer and it's no
When a Korvax dies it's just their... uh... soul? I guess?
They die but their body is just fine so a new entity appears within the casing immediately after
Also a cast system, kinda
Is there a NMS ttrpg?
Yeah no one is surprised, it's pretty obvious that acting dumb about it was in the contract they signed with Sony for the timed exclusive too
Indeed
This boss in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax makes me want to burn down Arc System Works
You can't block them, they have a huge attack boost on an already strong character (Shadow Labrys, though I don't know how strong she is normally because I don't play her), has a INSANE SP boost so she can spam special attacks
and
she nullifies your abilities
the thing that makes Golden Arena unique
so you're stuck with a basic character while dealing with God Itself with the AI cranked to Fuck You
I'm doing it today, I'm redownloading a hat in time
I haven't played in roughly 2 years

I would like to get this
this statue looks awesome af
but WHY THE GAME DIGITAL
YOU SELL A STEEL CASE
WITHOUT
A FUCKING DISK
IT IS JUST CENTS A FUCKING DISK
also this tweet is sussy af

is this slay the spire or touhou i can't tell anymore
por que no los dos?
Venom
marketing
The game would have to be installed onto the console's hard drive anyway and discs are a medium that degrades over time or can be damaged.
I'd say "Discs also mean companies can't take away what you already bought if they ever remove it for some reason" but that's not true anymore afaik
Yeah, discs don't have all the data anymore, just a large chunk of it
that's lame as hell tbh
Considering P.T ever since it got removed doesnt allow you to install it/download it again I wouldn't say that this isn't true anymore, Konami also keeps blocking anyone who is trying to transfer P.T to their PS5s from doing so
lame as hell
I'm confused, I thought PT was only ever downloadable and never had a disc-based release?
the one thing I will give Nintendo props for is still using cartridges and physical media to some degree despite the fact that they're god awful and actively harmful against videogame preservation
It's an example of game companies being able to take away something you've already got in your library
I'm sure not everyone would've had P.T installed in their system, but I'm damn sure they would've liked to still own it despite Konami taking it down from the stores
Yeah it started as me saying disc would prevent this but we have proof of the contrary
Nire is just referencing the most well known example of a game getting pulled and people losing access
still, for games old enough that cartridges or discs still actually contained the entire game, rom files are much better at preserving the game and being easily distributed and replayed than the original cartridges or discs anyway
that's because it is, at least I meant it as an argument for discs or any other form of physical media which is why I brought up Nintendo
unrelated but take a look at this feller
I want my console going
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
spinning that thingy FAST
even if there is nothing there
I want that 99c plastic
on that fucking steelcase
there is a physical version
with a disk
WHY NOT IN THE COLLECTIONS EDITION
iiuc what's important for preservation is the game having a DRM-free (and for multiplayer self-hostable) form of some kind, which doesn't really have anything to do with discs (and honestly discs are just less convenient in every way than rom files)
if I can afford a fucking collection edition
I can afford another game years later if the fucking thing breaks
the bigger issue these days is that the shift from physical to digital distribution has been accompanied by a bunch of DRM and live service nonsense that makes many games inherently unpreserveable, without heroic modding efforts, regardless of disc status
an empty steel case is just sad
at least self-hosting I can understand not being a standard thing because it does require extra work, while DRM is something you could "just not do" to begin with
it's also worth noting that I haven't had a disc drive on my personal or work computers for several years now
just keeps getting more wild
that was such a poorly worded tweet
or genius
I say genius
true
engagement is probably through the roof
I'm not even arguing about it from a preservation point of view I'm just generally for physical media not necessarily as the only option digital can be an option too but I don't ''agree'' with physical media dying out
oh that issue
sorry I'm used to preservation being the argument for physical games because... well I've yet to hear any other
Physical media is nice for reselling/trading
I also think there's no point in physical if they don't actually sell you a physical way to play the game by your own but that's getting more into it and I was just sort of making a passing comment for physical media when they were talking about it earlier
with video games there kinda never was a physical version of the game itself, even with discs it was always software and the disc was a mere delivery mechanism into the box that runs the software
If anything if there is a version that needs to come with a disk is the collectors edition
because it is just to collect it
yeah, I think everyone agrees that the many discs which are only glorified DRM keys are pointless, at least once they're aware of that fact
I am literally buying this ver just to look pretty on my table
idc if the disk have nothing on it
I just want pretty
lol, fair enough
19 inches of Venom
The common one is about ownership
Which again discs don't actually save you from
It's a legal framework that's been in place for like thirty years
right, this topic is riddled with arguments that don't even make sense, it's often hard to tell what's even being claimed
But yeah, preservation is the more pertinent issue, IMO
Which as you say is ultimately a DRM problem
drunk Raimi movies
I just realised
The guy that decides the publishing at Larian Games is fucking competent
Yep
Releasing BG3 on PS5 right as Starfield is not releasing on their platform is so smart
"So I heard you wanted to play a certain RPG but you can't, we just happen to release our acclaimed RPG on the same day"
I noticed that too.
huh, that's calculated, isn't it
Which makes sense given that the decision to delay the PS5 version was done only a handful of months ago
I noticed that a few weeks ago.
Larian Games just coming out of nowhere here to school the industry. And they didn't need to pour much money into advertising to do it.
it's nice when the ruthless capitalist jackal move happens to also be a win for consumers lol
Starfield had a LOT of money poured into its marketing, it's kinda insane what they did for it
It's funny because usually the game publishing arm of the industry seem comically incompetent
Often the same publishing house releases 2 titles that actively compete with each other the same week
Yeah, publishers stumble so badly at times it sometimes feels malicious or just completely and utterly disconnected from the heartbeat of the market.
are Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 good
I never played them
Good but hard to get into
Lots of mechanics, very complicated games, and they are definitely dated
BG3 is definitely the most beginner friendly of the D&D titles because it uses the simplest D&D ruleset so far, which helps
I'm content with having watched a long youtube video essay about BG1
it turns out, when your game is really good and you put a lot of effort into it, it just markets itself by word of mouth and how crazy people go over your game being good (not a full substitute for actual marketing of course)
It worked for Hollow Knight, eventually
most of the bug types are vague and/or unspecified
honestly I have no idea what any of the knights are
For releasing 1 month within Horizon Zero Dawn, BOTW and Nier Automata, it took a while before it crawled out of the ashes, but it got there
Yeah. There's the whole thing where a bunch of devs came out loudly proclaiming "BG3 is an anomaly and should not be used as a new standard" and while they do have a point to a degree, a game like BG3 is a nightmare to build and takes an eternity to do right, it's valid to consider BG3 a new benchmark nonetheless. You don't need to make every game a D&D 5e game, but BG3 still brings a lot of universal lessons to the table that every dev and publisher should be looking hard at and learning from.
A game like that which came out with no microtransactions and yet still came with deep customization and rich, rich, rich content and few bugs? Yeah, that's a much needed slap to the face for the industry.
I feel like all of the things we've been complaining about publishers doing or not doing for decades are all complaints they're extremely familiar with, and this won't actually change anything because they'd see BG3 as in some ways an unrepeatable anomaly and in other ways confirmation that familiar brands with established audiences sell
Unfortunately I agree.
Shout out to Armored Core 6 which came out right after and, even if you don't like the genre, you gotta admit, From is putting out microtransaction free feature complete games and it's not stopping.
speaking of familiar brands with established audiences
(even if most people know Fromsoft better than Armored Core)
Further, they're also single-player-heavy experiences.
BG3 does multi, absolutely
But you don't HAVE to to get the full experience
The multiplayer for AC6 is actually really good too.
I'd say better than the souls game multiplayer but it doesn't take much
AC6 has multi? TIL
Yeah, supports up to 3v3
And the netcode is really solid, for what I heard, I couldn't care less about it
But it's nice it's there, for the people that like it
Every time I launch BG3 there is a big "pay us more money" button above the smaller "play the game" button
It takes a moment to find the button I want.
It is not a design choice I love.
Oh right, I forgot about that
You could've just pre-bought the game while it was in early access a day before release and got all of that extra content for free.
Either way, it's nothing critical. The game is still complete without it.
Most people got it for the art book.
I'm mostly annoyed it's still showing it despite me already having it
Yeah, that I'll admit is a little weird.
Like, I think it's fine to have a button there on the launcher, but not right where the play button is. Put it somewhere else and it wouldn't be an issue.
Yep, it shows it even if you did preorder or otherwise already bought the upgrade. Which is just another reason why secondary launchers like this when you're already using a launcher like Steam are super dumb.
Its not dumb to them because its their own proprietary ecosystem, they even have their own account system. Same thing with how EA and Ubi did back in the day, all their gardens.
Everyone desires Steamās dominance.
I wonder if BG3ās mac port is any good.
Iām becoming slowly interested.
use --skip-launcher launch option, same as CDPR's launcher
or was it --launcher-skip? Probably the former
aaand that's 100% on Bomb Rush
and I think for the first time I got a bunch of cheevos under 10% so I get to feel special about it too
have you guys played Vampire Survivors
I played Vampire Survivors, it's pretty good if you like that genre
I don't mind the genre but it was kind of enough for me, I don't feel the need to play other games in the genre or the DLCs from it
But I did finish VS
Kindaaa
In the sense that the progression is kinda roguelike
In general it's a top down game in which you just move your dude, all attacks happens automatically and the only input you have is the direction you go.
Then you level and pick different weapons that have different attack patterns, you pick passives, can evolve some of your weapons, etc....
And every run you start from zero, but unlock new characters, new levels, and new weapons, so yeah the progression is very roguelike, while the gameplay it's kinda its own thing
that's cool
yeah im watching Jerma play it right bow
now
hmm i might buy it tomorrow
it's only 5 dollars
Yeah the pricepoint is pretty low, and if you don't end up liking it you can always at least be happy that you gave 5 bucks to a very pro trans gaming dev.
The whole bestiary was writen by Stephanie Sterling
Apparently it's a very good Steam Deck game, if you have one of those.
It's pretty good on mobile too
It caused a boom in that genre of game too. But yeah, 5$ and i think 4 more for both DLCs is a damn good price
Let's see, I also have... Brotato, 20 minutes till dawn, Rogue: Genesia, Disfigure, Halls of Torment
It's a great new genre
I have VS, Brotato, Boneraiser, and Holocure
Boneraiser Minions is my favorite
Cool game
Halls is pretty polished. Genesia needs some more work but the dev is adding a lot to it
Disfigure is a bit of an odd one
Oh and it's free
Rogue Genesia suffers from a lot of bad decisions
Though the dev does have a 5$ dlc that's basically just 'ya know if ya liked it for free, pay for the dlc"
Holocure is also free, the only problem is it being vtuber-weeb

The price is YOUR SOUL
jesus
I knew it was successful but damn
that's what makes it surprising
Have you guys seen the aristo cats
Fair enough yeah
Yes
nice

Oh yeah him
He tried paywalling his starfield mod and it already got cracked lmao https://www.pcgamer.com/a-dollar5-starfield-mod-to-enable-dlss-frame-generation-has-been-cracked-to-remove-modders-drm/
Well if someone pirates the mod they probably can pirate the game
I don't understand the morality of
will pay $70 to a massive billion dollar company
won't pay $5 to an indipendant modder making the product better out of their own free time
mfer just pay the 5 bucks or just stfu and pirate Starfield
It's more about the precedent of mods generally being free
yeah, he probably should get some money for it
but that's the way it goes
charging for a mod is in legally gray area
Wasn't it Fallout 4 that tried to charge for mods?
(you're not allowed to mod the game as per its EULA!)
I mean, I hope the dude doesn't get sued like some commenters say they should
for a $5 mod anyway
yeah, think it was creation club along with skyrim
that trailer had a ton of downvotes
I'm sorry Gamersā¢ļø about your $5 paywall mod but that's not like
Suitible reason to wish the guy financial ruin
Valve had a hand in that too IIRC
DLSS will be supported in the base game eventually anyway so while I'm all about supporting independent developers, I don't support spending money on something you'll get for free.
Yeah, it's a bit of a mess and maybe they should have made it free and made like a tip system
Like itch.io or something
but like
independant creators gotta eat too, y'know
Alas, alas
last time for me was like 5 years ago
Yeah, charging for mods regardless of how good or useful your mod is is deeply scummy imo
i dunno about that as a general rule. Some of those mods that completely overhaul how Minecraft looks, for example, seem worthy of a few bucks.
but like
it's all ethically very debatable so you do you, lol
My take is that you can set up a donation page, that's entirely reasonable, but a paywall?
It's already a legally gray area to begin with
Legal issues notwithstanding, charging for work done that others want to benefit from seems fine. Not like they have a gun to our heads or something, i dunno. anyway I don't have a horse in this race, it's just my thoughts on the matter.
I guess to make it more clear, a DLSS mod is apparently not that difficult if he was able to do it in less than a day
and in the article it points out that other people did it anyway so all this blowback is frankly
dumb
Yeah it's not surprising that others would've done it if it's apparently that easy
reminds me though, maybe I should look into seeing if THCRAP has a Patreon... Those fanslators gotta eat
Can't stop the signal
I think that a DLSS mod is maybe not something you should charge for because you're not making anything but I think its fair to paywall your own content if its original stuff you made for the game
but since thats a mod anyone else could also make, its not really worth it
I think a DLSS mod is something you shouldn't pay for
Yeah I think this is more like what I'm trying to express but utterly failing to put into a coherent thought
I can better understand if you're doing a massive mod and it ends up being like... your primary source of income by the sheer scale and audience of the project
And the dev wink wink okays it like how Valve tends to do sometimes
So based on the aforementioned reference to Minecraft mods, I can better understand that.
Because you're actually adding something original to the conversation.
Ah, hmm.
I didn't know a DLSS mod was so simple.
Still don't agree with the blowback described in the article though.
Like, wishing finacnial ruin on someone because of this is very much A Dick Moveā¢ļø
A DLSS mod is just enabling an API
yeah thats just Gamers(tm) overreacting
as usual
Yeah that's overkill
like fuckin' make one yourself instead of pitching a fit
or just dont download it
Even better
if you wanted dlss support in the game free of hassle or charge, ask the fucking devs
its their job, not modders
But then again, Gamersā¢ļø
i mean, the devs are beholdened to a publisher that signed a contract with amd
not their fault
Alas, it'll be a year or two or three before official DLSS support shows up. Depends on how long of a deal AMD paid for.
when I said "the devs" I was more referring to the companies behind the games
not indivdiual developers, I am well aware they have no decision making authority
speculating, obviously, but i bet we see it very soon
Fair enough
anyway if we don't see it i'm getting one of the x xtx x cards from not nvidia
But that's a crime

Now you know everything you need to know about GPUs.
Sponsor: Crucial DDR5 Memory https://geni.us/XKQaQ
AMD's RX 7900 XT is basically just an upsell technique for the RX 7900 XTX. The XT fails to provide any meaningful value over last generation cards, it fails to beat any NVIDIA 40-series cards, and it is clearly a greedy play at pushing consumers to the RX 7900 XTX -- just like the 4080 is desig...
this is great pls watch
cpus: a couple of strong and smart cores
gpus: tiny, weak and stupid little cores, but there are thousands of them

that's the gist
do they make other cards like gpus but with stuff that's good at other sorts of operations?
Sound Cards use to be a thing
Network Cards are useful if you need, like, fiber or a 10GB port
so yeah
did sound cards have cpus?
well, not a general purpose cpu
yeah, sound cards used to be a thing, but now I don't think anyone needs them anymore?
Only sound engineers. Motherboard integrated sound chips have gotten good enough for 99% of people.
Yeah
There's a niche market that's willing to pay a bazillion dollars so they exist
Audiophiles are insane
THey still are. Though they've tended to use an exterior device these days
I say this with love
Audiophiles did push the market a bit, so they have that going for them
I remember our pc had a tv card too. That was back in like the early 2000s
That's dope
whaat
Independent sound cards tend to be really expensive because the only people who buy them are audiophiles looking for the real good stuff, in my experience
that's awesome
"Back in my day, I had a voodoo fx card!"

voodoo doo doo

i keep telling myself that about my network setup at home
...it's been 2.5 years and it's still all just sitting in a pile in the corner of the basement haphazardly cabled together
I don't bother anymore, I'm pretty sure cables entangle themselves anyway when I sleep
It's the only logical explanation
Sentient cables
... Cables aren't a fire risk just from being tangled, are they?
I have all the Nintendo consoles minus NES, SNES and Virtual Boy. Have all the PlayStations. Never had the first Xbox.
Recently replugged in the Wii-U to avoid nand corruption.
honestly the biggest "risk" of tangled cables is trying to move something and yanking something else off a shelf
I should do that
So you're saying you like whipping?
But man if I can find anything in this mess. I miss the days when this was all in a nice glass shelf caseā¦
Not shown: the literal pile of old Xboxes and PlayStations
I like this shelf though
Has my PokƩmon stuff
I still have my GB Pokemon too.
My 3DS game collection partly went missing in the move⦠as did some GameCube games and hardwareā¦. and DS gamesā¦
Strong suspicion of movers
yeah like Simon Belmont or Indiana Jones
make sure to spend coins on some upgrades and not just unlocking chars
You still have your n64 boxes in good condition, I still have some of my n64 boxes but their condition looks worse than UPS having a WWE match with a package
These N64 games are unfortunately not my original collectionā¦. parents forcefully sold all of our original N64 stuff one day, most of which was mine. Because they got mad at my brother once.
But yeah, I made a point to get them with boxes this time
I have factory sealed OoT and MM in that pile, but the seller for the OoT copy was an absolute moron and packed it in such a way that it got squished and partly torn during shipping.
So that $600 I paid for it was wasted before it even got to me
Oh it was VMXRacing
