Is this the original Sims?
I wonder how that sims competitor coming out next year is going to be
Pictured, Bob Newbie eating.
I admit I've never considered "Simslike" to be a genre
I played a round of that a few months back. Built a metropolis really fast, and then a megalopolis that triggered the "contact the game devs with your epic save" message which is just a crackup.
have we seen a third party try to directly make a sims game competitor before? I feel like we must have bc the franchise has been big for a while but I can't think of one
does this one have the Mario statue and the Bowser attack
Kinda sorta, it's the SNES version of SimCity, which is basically the first in the Sims franchise (first came out on DOS I think)
Getting a Megalopolis is hard, I've only done it once, but Metropolis is pretty easy
that's so cool
megalopolis isn't too bad if you have zero water and disasters off, and then basically build a city that's rings with all the industrial on the outer edges and then commercial as a pollution buffer, and residential in the center where property values will be highest. You have to kinda pre-plan it to build it from nothing though.
yeah I dont like to prelan super hard
it's too "clinical" of a way to play the game for me, fi that makes any sense
this offer is still open ^^
I dueled against a salamangreat deck. I'm just wondering what they were thinking, I got Sheou out and set torrential tribute turn one.
well I beat Exoprimal
you BEAT exoprimal? i thought that was just a perma-online PVP hero shooter
It has a main campaign.
The cutscenes and storyline progreess by you playing online matches, as you progress the story you unlock more maps/modes/match types.
It's also only kind of a pvp game.
Basically the way the game works is that your squad fights against dinosaurs to complete objectives
In "PVP Mode", the final objectives of both squads take place in the same area and you can hit eachother
In "PVE Mode", it's still a race but you can no longer ever directly attack the enemy squad
In either mode, you will sometimes get sucked through time and space to get put in a special mission where both squads work together
man i thought we were fucking past all that shit
Brink and Titanfall 1 were not given points for doing that
I can't think of any other way you'd progress the main story in an online only game
why does it even have a main story
game like that shouldn't have one if its gonna require you to play online matches. do you have to win in order to progress?
no
and it has a main story bc the devs wanted to give it a story? I don't think it having cutscenes you unlock by playing matches is really that bad of an idea
it gives a narrative reason at least to why you unlock more match types as you progress, too
Brink and Titanfall made the mistake of having to win matches to progress and since exoprimal requires you to play matches to progress its easy for me to doubt that the developers would have learned from those mistakes
those games are rather old though and i dont recall any other game doing that since then
I think with Titanfall the problem was the online campaign vs an actual campaign
I don't think Exoprimal was ever going to have a regular campaign so this is the only way to get the narrative across
also there's really no difference between new missions being gated behind playing matches to unlock cutscenes and new missions being gated behind, say, player level
at least in practice.
either way its just play more matches to unlock the missions.
better than anything else at least
PVE is there and it's two teams so the chances of failure are at least a lot slimmer
At least it had that unlike Overwatch 2 lol
:<
I'm not sure an OW campaign would have been even worth playing at this point, the blackwatch pve missions were kind abad
Yeah, they're so desperate at this point that they're trying to bring it to Steam, and yet they still want you to make a Battlenet account even though you're downloading it on Steam, and it's like
They're not alone in that regard at least. Ubisoft
EA too wtih the stupid EA play app
Yeah, even though I downloaded Uno on Steam, I still have to put in my Ubisoft Connect info, and while I don't personally mind that, what gets on my nerves the most is not being able to connect to a game half the time, having at least one failed join in before being able to join in. I had a friend from another country that was hosting a game, there was sessions where I wouldn't be able to get into the game 10 or more times before I finally got in there. Not to mention the game has straight up broke in some goofy ways on a couple occasions
I wouldn't mind as much either if ubisoft connect didn't suck
thats why I don't mind playing my games through the xbox store for gamepass
it usually works
The games on the platform, especially when they're on sale, in my opinion, worth it. I mean, Far Cry 6 has been alright, The Crew Motorfest looks like it could be decent, and then XDefiant, it's gonna scratch a good itch for people like me waiting for new blood to come into the FPS game space
Xbox is where I played Hades and Exoprimal
I played the XDefiant beta and had fun with it
I'm not sure what that is unfortunately.
so my wife is playing another Dark Souls character, and this one is Robyne Loxley (Robin Hood) -- like 90% archery and 10% thrusting sword. And this is actually a really absurdly effective character. Certain fights are really difficult, but some areas that are really hard if you're playing a heavy melee character or something are really easy when you're like shooted from across the world
Switch emulation users: Hold my yuzu.
(this actually opens the door to RDR emulation on mobile, as only Switch can be emulated on mobile so far)
reaching a high FPS on PC may also be easier with Switch emulation compared to X360 (let alone PS3)
I wonder if any textures/models will be downgraded on Switch compared to the X360 version though
Apparently the only thing being changed is the addition of languages
Doubtful. Even the switch is more powerful than the 360 at this point
cartridge size may be a problem, Switch cartridges are always 8 GB IIRC
I don't know if digital-only releases have to abide by this, but my guess is that there are still stricter size concerns in place than on any other current-gen console
cartridge size is the #1 reason why prerendered videos on the Switch look bad
What's this?
I tried and failed. It's too hard for me.
i believe in you croco

Coming soon
ooohhh paradox!
Dude how have I not heard about this until now!!
Oh my god I'm so excited!
Oh my they must have delayed it. The video said it'll be out next month. Steam says it'll be 6 months, haha
lmao
That is a good point.
Sims fans like "Someone else made a Sims game! We're finally free from DLC Hell!"
Paradox:
Counterpoint: paradox dlc is actually worth the money
How many pointless stuff packs for the sims 4 is there?
okay Paradox isn't always worth the money
ok true, not every DLC is entierly worth it
but:
And the ones that are have the problem of like, if you don't buy them the game gets rebalanced around them and you still have to deal with their shit, you just can't utilize it yourself, which can feel rather rancid.
70 items
£700
just for the DLC
and thats with some of them on sale
yeah...
Depends on what you want for Sims. The more expensive stuff is like expansion pack stuff. Overpriced, sure, but it generally adds new mechanics and a new zone to visit/do stuff in. (imo an xpac for that price should include 2-3 such things)
this is HOIV:
19 items, £155
Paradox isn't great about DLC but EA is currently tunneling below hell to set the bar as low as possible
some of that is radio packs, some is just cosmetics
The 4.99 stuff is clothes/furniture/etc and that's of dubious worth
Buying all of the expansion packs is still rather expensive 😔
but the sims is, even with the big packs, horribly overpriced
Also the sims modding community is fucking weird
Don't worry, I fixed the way toddlers looked!
their fix: https://www.thesimsresource.com/scaled/3103/w-920h-690-3103483.jpg
oh i'm not saying the contrary, i agree it's overpriced. But "worth it" in the sense of what it adds, I'd say the xpacs do bring a lot to the table. Worth 30-40$? Nah, would need to be twice as much stuff at least
The clothes/furniture/etc packs are def not worth it
For paradox, Crusader kings 2
ok, so uh i just checked cities skylines and, well:
62 items, most of which are radio or creator packs
which are, in my opinion better than sims packs because they usually have more stuff and are made by community members who make free stuff
also half the price for everything with nothing currently on sale
(i didn't screen everything, the crusader kings 2 is 32 items)
xcom 2 was nice about DLC
WOTC is a little expensive for a DLC but it literally uh
Rebuilds the game's code base and basically makes it a new game, so
Train simulator?
Yeah
The difference is you're only meant to pick a bunch of them to play with
2000$ for all the game's content is still better than the average gacha game.
theres someone in this server who spent $14000 on fortnite
Whereas in games like Sims or something your experience is improved by each and every one
I'm being serious, even a game with thousands of dollars in DLC, like
Spending thousands on the average gacha game will not net you even close to everything
this is why gambling games like that are bad
so at least with these games you actually get the things you buy
Yeah. It's why I refuse to play gachas anymore, they are extremely expensive gambling habits with mediocre video games attached.
The only unfortunate part is that I really like games with large rosters, and gacha games tend to do that better than any regular game, but w/e I'll just wait for more regular games with lots of characters.
they're designed to scratch that kind of itch
I feel like recent RPGs have not given us the amount of party members they should
hehe gambling fun
I guess Fire Emblem Engage had a lot of units but it went about it in literally the stupidest way possible
By distributing them by the main story so that you get some of them literally on the last mission and then NOT HAVING NEW GAME PLUS
You consider FE as an RPG game?
FE is a Strategy RPG
or a tactical RPG
they mean the same thing
"SRPG" is the acronym often used for the genre in my experience though
SRPGs are prety rpg-like, they're basically just like, turn based rpgs played on a grid
Often with more units than the typical JRPG but not always.
I see the concept of party a little different in SRPGs
So the 'party member' argument I think works a little different there
I mean it is a little different but not by that much
oh damn
Stray Gods comes out in two days
and Goodbye Volcano High, the best game of all time I am sure, will release later this month
It is very good
one of my favourites of all time.
Three Hopes is also very good
I don't usually do musou games but Hopes was like, the perfect mix of FE mechanics and Dynasty Warriors combat
and the writing was really good, it was just 3 Houses but gayer
The WWE crossover I assume?
Yeah
Not even 5 hours after the kaisen collab they're already announcing the next one lol
They have enough money to basically collab with anyone.
Yeah lol
Probably sides nintendo or mainline disney characters
It'd be funny if they collaborated with another wrestling company after
so we can get the AEW x WWE forbidden door in fucking fortnite
Yeah lol
I was hoping one of the new wwe skins would be alexa bliss though ngl
Though the two we're getting are pretty good
Alexa hasn't been big on TV for a while
Who were the mens' skins? I only saw Becky n Bianca
Afaik it's only Becky and Bianca that were leaked
Unless there's more that haven't been revealed yet
Ah okay.
I expect 2 mens skins and 2 womens
but maybe it will be just becky n bianca.
Based on them announcing/teasing it already im assuming they'll probably release tonight or tomorrow
Holy crap LBP is on this list
The dlc in that game was insane, but I didn't know it was that insane
yeah it had a shit ton of little crossover packs
The mgs pack was the bane of my childhood existence because it had the paintinator gun thing and I could never use it in create mode
And almost every item you collect online had some sort of dlc involved
I had that pack!
I remember always using the little Solid Snake head for my guy
I've always been attracted to one eyed character designs, call it projection
Man that series is just so good
It taught me stuff like logic gates a decade before i had to learn them in school
Not going to lie, I was extremely sad when they said they were shutting down lbp1 and 2 servers, just think of the levels lost

To answer your question, XDefiant is Ubisoft's upcoming FPS game where it has classes based off of Ubisoft game franchises like Libertad from Far Cry and Dedsec from Watch Dogs. All of them have class unique abilities and whatnot, and honestly, it's gonna be some good fresh content for the genre besides yet another COD
So this just launched on Kickstarter
the only way I can think to describe it is

Interesting.
This feels...oddly inappropriate, especially the "awwwww yeeeeeah" as you're firing bullets from her into enemies, lol.
Plus, it'll get annoying very fast.
and for some reason I can see it getting a ton of money
you know, during the pandemic, twitch and streaming really showed just how big cod's reach was due to all the sports athletes who started streaming warzone
anyone from middle aged dads to famous athletes play cod regularly
and I find that fascinating for some reason
cause yet for some reason, a large vocal part of the playerbase is like, 12-20 year old kids who want nothing more than to get sick clips and skins, and then on the other complete opposite spectrum, is people who would rather prefer a game more grounded in reality with milsim operators
when developing a cod game, you really can't win lol
you do have to wonder if the second group even looked for actual milsim games lol
they want the style without any of the substance
ain't nobody got the time to actually play arma 3 amirite
Call of Duty at least has one of the more respectable esports scenes.
As someone who organizes tournaments and used to be a community manager of an esports club, I never had any issues at a CoD event.
you can see this divide on the mw3 reveal trailer right now, there's a comment who wants a grounded milsim like experience, and then others were complaining about season passes, and how mw2 was supposed to be a two year game
Hey, that's actually pretty cool
They hosted two majors in Toronto close to where I am and seeing that happen there was really cool to see
Though I do remember one guy getting like, really upset when he walked into the room and saw KBMs set up because he played on a controller and he basically started throwing a fit until I informed him he can just... ask for a controller, we have both lmao.
The KBMs were mostly sitting there from the last game that was played.
yeah for some reason the cdl all uses controllers
Though we did only have xbox controllers and that was something that some people were upset by.
Wasn't really up to us though, we had equipment sponsorships; Logitech keyboards/mice and Xbox's newer controllers
I never understood how those only applied to certain games, admittedly.
Like, for CoD, you don't bring your own controller, you're not allowed to, you have to use what we have
For fighting games, no controllers are provided by default, eveyone was expected to bring their own stick or gamepad
I guess the equipment sponsorships only applied to certain games.
I see esports pros bring in their own KBMs at League or CS tournaments all the time
That's normal for professional tournaments afaik.
As far as events I helped host;
CoD, Hearthstone, League of Legends, and Rainbow 6 Siege were all basically fine
Overwatch had a few problems with the crowds but the players were always fine
Physical games like Warhammer 40k and Magic the Gathering always brought the worst people
I never want to try to organize anything for 40k or MTG players ever again.
oh god, that sounds like hell to coordinate
It literally got to a point where the poor bastards helping me out were like "Hey Justice someone's hating women again"
What do you even do at that point?
kick them out
which was my job specifically
Well, not my only job to be clear, but anyone who needed to be kicked out was by me
We had cameras too, of course, so it's like
"My opponent said something horrible"
"No I didn't."
Me: "Ok, lemme check what happened."
Person claiming they didn't becomes visibly worried
Like we record these for broadcast you're being filmed from like 30 angles and there are always multiple active microphones in range of each table.
I am getting flashbacks to when a guy yelled the hard R at his opponent for... scooping. His opponent surrendered, and this guy got so mad that he just yelled a racial slur.
...whew
On a physical game too, right?
Makes you wonder how they behave in other things
Yes, it was Magic the Gathering that time.
So obviously this guy was banned and his opponent got to move on, for losing, lol
wonder why its the physical games that bring this kind of crowd in and not the video games that you play in front of a screen instead of an actual human
For Magic, I have no idea
For Warhammer, the game has a longstanding issue with bigotry in it's community.
Magic probably has the same but I think Warhammer's is different because it is rooted in the actual game.
I guess that makes sense, considering that other games like War Thunder and HOI4 have similar issues
Ohfuck
Nice discount
Yeah it is similar for those.
IMO Steam Deck is already a great value proposition
I think with MTG it might just be that it's an older game and those tend to have more "Good ole days" players.
A $130 discount is attractive
(Also IMO it’s worth replacing the SSD with the biggest one you can buy for it)
I keep telling myself that I don't need a deck because I play all my games on my pc already
but... I want
I also want a steam deck
I personally don't have a need for one
I don't really play games like, away from home.
I like the Deck because I can just play it anywhere. Useful for playing in bed.
Yeah me neither, but it would be nice to have one...
Exactly, sometimes you just want to get out of your room and play games on the couch
I don't tend to do that personally, it's kind of weird. If I want to play a game I feel most comfortable at like, a dedicated gaming spot
Like a nicely set up desk
If I'm on my couch I'm usually relaxing and watching television or something.
Though my switch's handheld mode was great for 1 thing; I played a lot of games while on the treadmill
Fire Emblem Three Hopes helped me lose 25 pounds i swear lol
damn, that's great!
for me, although my pc is very well cooled, after a few hours the room still gets unbearably hot sometimes, so I have to cool off by getting out for a bit
I just keep the AC in my apartment on like 60
I am absolutely chillin in the most literal sense

such a good game
Agreed
oh wow, 10 years?
so many things are like a decade old these days that it doesn't even faze me anymore
same guy who thinks like 30$ in GTA online money is worth almost nothing in-game?
shocker
and you can literally get it on xbox for way cheaper
Yeah.. If rockstar just had ported it to PC also. None of this backlash would he happening
selling a port of a 10 year old game at that price is still a highway robbery
gta v was sold for 60 for years, so I wouldn't be surprised
People will buy it, they can't help themselves
Nothing is impossible if Pokemon SV can sell 10m in 3 days
man.
I wanna play some Guilty Gear Strive but like
its so hard to find a fair match
It's funny how they say "Nintendo doesn't want people to copy TotK" because they patented bunch of stuff
They have million different patents which they barely even use to sue people
aka they are not Konami
Konami uses their patents to bully and sue the fuck out of anything that produces a shadow
Nintendo sits on them, doesn't do anything with them, and then gets mad and demonizes fans when people try to look for alternatives when they don't provide

I don't think their patents work like that
Patent and IP are different
Nintendo tends to protect their IPs, not patents
I'm making a goof about Nintendo in general, just joshing
Still, I do think it's a comical amount of patents
Well patents are very specific
I mean they patented... loading screens
It's like "this patent is about how we always display the company logo at this very specific pixel"
Patent is one of the things I think Nintendo is objectively dealing very well
In the case of loading screens, the patent is apparently on the character blinking out at one point on the map and back in at another, and how that's handled.
Or so goes the summary on the news site. I'm not actually allowed to read parents.
well the original article that gamesradar seems to have ripped off (?) does go a bit more in depth about it
(Wilful patent infringement is triple damages, and the best way to ensure you don't wilfully infringe on a patent is to have no knowledge of any patents. So I'm not allowed to have knowledge of any patents.)
The thing about patent is that if you don't register it, someone can copy and then register their own patent
Which can be significantly worse
This isn't true - prior art invalidates a patent.
And prior art just requires an example to be pointed at - it does not have to be registered
Not blatant copy
Okay, but your patent has to be specific too
Patents do not have any protective value in that sense.
amongst the things they patented, one of them is precisely how Nintendo devs have done the calculations for how movement is transfered to Link from whichever object he's standing on top of when in movement
they also patented Link being unable to lift objects he's standing on top of with Ultrahand?
yeah these are extremely oddly specific
It's not oddly specific, patents are supposed to be that specific
Patents are always very specific, because only specific things are patentable
It has to be a specific invention
Oh I know, I guess what I meant to say maybe is that I find it weird that only now those things are being patented I guess
I mean, a lot of these don't really seem super unique to TOTK
but I guess Nintendo got to it first
Nintendo is known to have some serious patents and letting companies to use those unless they willfully try to claim those as theirs
If the patents are valid, they are for things that were never done before in that specific way
So I guess it's not come up before.
And afaik there was one company who challenged that
Or the patent office didn't find any prior art and if they ever try to enforce them the entity they enforce against might go digging and find some
The patent office does put out calls for prior art, too
Patents often take years to go through
(there is a very large difference between filing for a patent and being granted one, and they can always be retroactively ungranted if something was missed)
Though I think you don't generally have to repay license fees you collected on patents that were later invalidated, so you can still come out ahead on that.
I have to admit I messed up when I talked about wrongful patent claiming after a prior art, but I can tell that Nintendo is definitely a company which will always try to earn their legal high ground
I don't think they really actively want legal disputes, but they want to be very safe
Sounds plausible.
Didn't they almost lose their rights to some IP once and that's why they became so insanely protective of their stuff?
Defensive patents are a thing, but in a different sense - you accumulate patents, but do nothing with them until someone sues you for patent infringement. Then you counter-sue them for your patents that they infringed.
Patent deterrence
Indeed, though it wasn't specifically a patent issue
afaik Nintendo has not filed a single patent infringement lawsuit (they have been sued for a few times with their consoles) except one known case, which was a whole mess
There may be some I've missed
Conclusion; what does Nintendo registering bunch of TotK-related patents mean? Practically nothing special.
did they patent dynamic framerate
Been playing Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and it has probably my favorite endgame pit of all of them
I enjoy a good action packed roguelike
can't say I've heard a borderlands game be called a roguelike before
my understanding was that every sufficiently large software company maintains a patent "war chest" like this, if only to defend themselves against the cottage industry of "patent trolls"
it makes for amusing headlines, but ultimately this is just companies making the best of a very outdated system
And that's why "don't use anything we haven't developed" might at first sound reasonable
The thing I love about Tiny Tina is, she's basically a walking Internet shitpost
She makes me chuckle
At least for once, it's not going after someone for a ridiculous reason
I am quite enjoying cosmoteer, especially now that there is finally a resource management aspect to it
I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna play Anthem

no

Thats thq nordic. They bought the name from them when they went bankrupt
They are part of the embracer conglomerate
Okay but didn't the Avengers servers actually get taken down?
Nope. Just no more support for the game.
Avengers was always weird in that, for a live service game, the servers did almost nothing anyway
Gameplay was local, saves were local
Probably relatively cheap to keep them going enough for the game to still function
And they made almost all cosmetics free but you can earn them.
The core gameplay for Avengers was actually pretty alright
I think it being a live service game was completely unnecessary

I don't even know if their comics of Street Fighter or Darkstalkers are good at all but the guest artists for their covers always do an amazing job
at least someone still remembers Darkstalkers exists, Capcom
Oh I thought that was AI art
You'll sooner catch me dead than ever knowingly posting AI art
unless it's to make fun of it
Yeah she just has weird hands
they're pretty detailed and the artist kind of only left the linework around the shape of the hands so it looks like the usual AI image blending/wax stuff that a lot of generated images have
But I know it's not AI because the artist is Panzer who works for Udon as an illustrator
he's actually really damn good
Seems like one company out of all those hired to do localization only credited leads and execs instead of the actual workers
All other companies had full list. Larian's demanded the full credits and will patch it in
Still waiting on a patch for Metroid Prime Remastered to list everyone who worked on it.
I do hear that it has become increasingly common for devs who worked on games to be left out of the credits for often petty reasons in recent years
I’ve heard about some people who were hired to do a thing, did the thing they were hired to do, and then left and were only with the company for several months but were left out despite their work being used because they were there for less than 50% of the total development time of the project, for example.
it's such a weird thing to be petty about considering the credits are already so long nobody could possibly read or remember even a fraction of the names
I feel like in many cases it's more likely to be simple oversights, or policies like what you just said which probably seem reasonable in other contexts
cough Minecraft cough
The policies vary from company to company but I’ve heard a bunch of them require you to be still with the studio when the game releases or have worked on it for 50 or 80% of the dev time or things like that
Which is really dumb
I admit I never even watch the credits of movies
unless I have a hunch who a specific character was played by, and want to check
I usually watch if there's more to it than just a list of names
Doesn't mean I don't appreciate all the hard work that goes into a game or movie
Personally I’d be like… if anything you did ends up in the final game then you get a credit
Because that seems rather obvious

That is how it should be, yes
I mean, I have 0 dev work yet i still get put in some EA games credits because I work here
as a vague ethical statement I agree, but taking literally that criterion would likely exclude concept artists and anyone else whose work technically didn't make the final cut
Right
just getting an exhaustive list of people who "worked on X" is really hard at these scales
I'd only be worried if there was some reason to think an exclusion was intentional
"Examples where staff have been left out of the credits in video games have frequently hit the headlines, and recently included translators who worked on the Persona 3 and 4 remasters, as well as staff missing from the credits of Callisto Protocol."
But I don't even do tech support for any of those games except one
translations makes sense because there's almost always a 3rd party involved
I am playing Anthem now!
Yeah I can see how that can happen, easily
Third party probably just didn’t provide a full list
MA: just providing exces and leads seem to be a dick move though
I watch a streamer who previously worked for many years as a QA on many videogames and I remember him talking about this exact same stuff and it could have been precisely due to the Metroid situation though I'd have to look it up
But essentially it's not exactly uncommon for this to happen, even if you put in a lot more than just 50% into a project
I’ve seen some commentary from former Retro devs who worked on Prime who were rather miffed about having their credits removed in the remaster
There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff that can lead to you just not getting credited at all, even just the fact that someone in a position higher than you just doesn't like you
Just removing everyone who didn’t work on the remaster specifically even though all that work is based on the original is a dick move.
Yeah, that’s total bullshit
At least the studio is getting it fixed
As mentioned it can be a logistical nightmare trying to get a comprehensive list, but yeah that’s just silly
yep, there's missing some dubious corner cases, and then there's not even trying
Well at least people seem to care more about this than they used to these days
At least Larian is having none of that shit and is getting it fixed ASAP.
3 years might be half of my "career" as a fan translator
Apparently after the persona situation, there were some policy changes to help prevent that type of stuff, though these guys didn't get the memo?
though I wonder why Larian didn't notice before the release
(or did they, and the release was already set in stone, and it's taking this long to get it fixed?)
deciding what to play next is weirdly hard

it's pretty much ''oh we outsourced to you and you helped with our game on QA but you're from a different studio and you're not working in our offices next to us? Oh well you don't really count
we'll put your studio logo in there and call it a day''
or sometimes they don't even credit at all even
apparently in Rockstar it's a thing where, even if you worked on the game for all of its time in development, if you leave before the game ships out, they WILL cut you out of the credits, no matter how much time you put in the game
I don't think it's much about the players reading the name, but more of being able to actually put a big game like BG3 in your resume.
if you aren't in the credits, a prospective employer might call bullshit on you
I would personally put it on my resume anyways.
Just tell my employer I was not listed in the credits if asked.
I can prove I worked at that company during that time and probably can give names and dates of supervisors and whatnot
It's one thing to not list someone in the credits but it'd be a whole different tier of insanity to lie if someone called and asked if they worked there
Pretty sure that'd be outright illegal or something
Yeah for sure, but it's still better if they put it up
And I have the feeling that now that Larion demanded it they'll give the full list
Like, if they ever want to get more work from one of the biggest companies that make games that require a massive amount of translation at least
It took me so many attempts, but I finally won the duel to unlock them.
Cute
I want to like guilty gear strive, I really do
but losing for five hours in a row... it is not fun
I know someone who uses that character as their pfp, didn't know what it was from for years

There was a port of quake 2 for the n64?
free with purchase i think
Aw
idk maybe it's free
Well I'm not paying ten dollars for quake but I might be tempted to try Quake II 64
All of our characters have been completely rebuilt from the ground up - including familiar faces! Check out what's new with SpongeBob!

TRESPASSER!
also, yay for a free upgrade for existing PC owners. Bethesda is doing a great job with the id re-releases
splitscreen support also means it finally matches the Xbox 360 port of Quake 2 🙂
An increased tick rate ensures action is more responsive and hundreds of level and gameplay bugs have been fixed.
🔥
did NIN do the soundtrack for Quake II as well
no, Sonic Mayhem did, along with Bill Brown and a track from Rob Zombie of all things
dies
Quake II includes 4-player split-screen local multiplayer on all platforms, with 8 player split-screen available on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
8 player split-screen, that must be the experience
maybe on one of those 84" TVs, I guess
performance of that mode on Xbox Series S must also be something to behold
From Circana's Player Engagement Tracker - This past Sunday (6 Aug), Baldur's Gate III play accounted for nearly 28% of total player time spent on Steam, leading all other titles by far, including CS:GO at 5%. Bonkers numbers. https://t.co/lY83gu0zTG
Godamn
That’s pretty crazy. I would’ve expected BG3 to be too much RPG for most people.
Yea same
I swear, moving the release date up a month was THE best choice Larian could've ever made. They're now the undisputed kings of the genre (and Steam) for all of August, and GOTY contenders.
What even is a Starfield?
yeah, Starfield will have a tough time for sure
anyway, let's give this a try on Proton…
the weapon switching is a ton faster, this is a huge change as weapon switching is super slow in the original game
FIREBLU can be one of your dogtags. Also, Minesweeper, SkiFree, and many others
yay, it defaults to the superior default key for crouching 😛
omg fireblu my beloved
this is so huge really, I'm blown away by the effort that went into this so far
Quake 1 was a pretty good rerelease, but this is even better
Is the game good cali?
(funny as people tend to dislike Quake 2 compared to Quake 1, but still :P)
I’ve never played Quake. I’ve seen gameplay of it. What’s it like?
making funny noises with the weapon wheel will never get old
(this is the new tutorial map, by the way. The Quake 1 re-release didn't have any tutorial)
Is this the remake?
the quality of the weapon remodels is incredible too, they were reanimated from scratch so they don't have wobbly vertices anymore
also, you can crouch while airborne now! (Game changer, I know)
Cali does the game have difficulty settings. And it’s on game pass so I could get it.
it is on Game Pass, and yes it does (including for the new bots)
New bots?
deathmatch is great fun so far, netcode is better than in the Q1 rerelease. Also, look at that motion blur
yeah, there are bots for deathmatch if you want. You can use them in splitscreen too
So in a way it’s like doom?
Crack probably helps
quake's probably the granddaddy of all competitive multiplayer shooter games today
the term frag, the gamemodes, movement like rocket jumping and bhopping, machinimas, all came from this
Yeah it's just a little uh
difficult
yeah as a result people got really good at it
knowing how to bhop is basically required to get good, along with perfect aim
Quake 2 is actually a slower-paced game than Quake 3, let alone Quake 1
bunnyhopping is nerfed, weapons fire slower, their projectiles move slower
weapon switching also took ages in the original game, but this re-release makes switching times similar to Quake 3
Quake 2 also has the weakest starting weapon, but it was buffed in this re-release
(I happen to be on a Discord with someone who worked on it, we're talking about it right now :P)
one of the things that made me like Descent combat so much more than either DooM or Quake is that almost everything is a slowish projectile, so real-time dodging, and manipulating others' dodging patterns, was more important than just like precise rapid point-and-click to get a killshot off.
I just can't aim lol.
yeah, you have plenty of time to dodge most rockets in Quake 2
good luck doing that in Quake 1 (and they deal slightly more damage there – though armor is more plentiful in that game, so that compensates)
Does health regen or health packs.
health packs only
in singleplayer, you can pick up permanent 1% health bonuses called Adrenaline throughout the game
if you collect them all, you'll end up with a max HP of 130 or so
Ooooh
it might be the first FPS to have such a mechanic added. RPG-lite element 🙂
as it should be
What about Marathon, that came before Quake 2 right?
oh right, I forgot
to be fair, regenerating health has its place, I like how the modern Wolfenstein games do it with their 20% steps
it makes minor damage not something to worry about, but you still have to worry about taking lots of damage quickly
yeah, regenerating health is overused but it took off because it was a very good idea in certain games
GTA V having health regen up to 50% also makes it a lot more palatable, no more getting stuck with 5 HP unless you suicide-heal
dang i still gotta play the newer Wolfensteins
(to be fair, I still do that in GTA V sometimes when I need 100 HP quickly)
ive only played 3D
"You will feel like a respawned person in just 30 seconds…" 🙂
throws grenade under feet and presses G to detonate it
yep, for almost any single-player combat game, non-regenerating health means that the "I have low health, what now?" action is something less fun than more combat, like backtracking to find another health pack or committing suicide just to heal, so I get why it's the default now
idk the glory kill system is more interesting to me cause it keeps things fast and makes me want to engage with enemies more
indeed, given the way I just phrased the problem, heal-by-combat is almost the only good alternative
Metal Gear Rising is another example of that
I wonder if HL3 would stick with medkits/charging stations or go the regen route
it's also worth noting that the original Halo had a health bar underneath the regenerating shields, and health packs on its levels
what did Alyx do
(and later Halos technically have a finite amount of unshielded health but it's no longer exposed to the player)
iirc Alyx had charging stations
sigh
Damn it @glad girder

I dunno, i've yet to play or watch any of it. I absolutely love HL stuff but i've no VR setup so i've avoided it to not spoil myself

Amongst us
OH IT’S SO GREAT
Never have enjoyed Quake II as much as the first, but the amount of improvements packed into the new release have really impressed me
the one time I made it as far as I got in Quake II, I got stuck and unsure where to go in one of the later levels
but now there is an optional compass that guides you to the objective, so that problem is erased this time around
oh yeah he def was, i remember getting into amongus from his vids in early june
i was looking around for other vids of it but could only find some foreign language peeps with like 20 views per vid
Jan 2020 actually was his earliest vid
funny how this is the only time ive gotten in much earlier then a trend happening
yeah i think i started watching him in early june

he was def the first biggish english yter to cover
I just love the way the team just banters with each other
I miss their WOW ones though
oh like in Doom 2016 and Eternal that's cool
is this one also done by Nightdive
they're not even trying anymore
theyve never been trying
don't you dare talk shit about Garten of Peak /j
Wha- why? Why not just let Zavala die like everyone predicts is gonna happen? Why bring in someone else to replace their voice? This makes no sense to me
If it's too important a character in the story for example, would be hard to explain away
Oh fuck thats cool as hell

They did it with cayde for the longest time (but he's coming back, so bad example) but like, it doesn't feel right
Eyy farm sim
Well I’m glad they are continuing it.
my favourite thing about farming simulator is their dedicated esports scene

wait what
Yeah surprisingly there is an esports scene if it in germany

Well it's about time.
Also there’s a new song from Essenger coming out

Baba Is Throwing Hands
ouef
Frame rate looks a little rough.
Framerate is a solid 60 throughout, only rough here cause it was captured using the Switch replay thing
Holy shit, I got 4 R-TOPs in one donut block omg
The Lovecrafty stuff was only in the first Quake
@static bluff SimCity things!
Hell apparently Quake II wasn’t gonna be a Quake sequel at all originally
It probably wont last because Sims are finicky
But I've never had a full donut become TOP level before lol
cries
ive been looking for a new game to play tbh, is Quake II worth my time ?
though I did notice in the new character viewer thing, there is a Shambler weirdly enough
I’d say it’s worth it aye, new enhancements make it easier to play through and not get too lost
feel like I’m enjoying this Quake II runthrough more than the previous one
so there isn't any dark castles or scary monsters ?
Bah, that didn't last long. The top-right one downgraded back into two separate apartments
Nope, just varied cyborg aliens on an unfamiliar planet
like most id games you’re simply a badass sent in to take ‘em out
the soundtrack is a more traditional heavy metal vibe compared to Q1’s atmosphere but it is genuinely one of my favorite game soundtracks ever
i see
are you still the Quake Ranger from the first one or are you a different lad/lass/person
different guy called Bitterman iirc, but you still have the same iconic jump sound
HUH
HMMP
HMMP
beautiful sound
It was like a really big and pretty bubble. Ya knew it was gonna pop but it's nice to enjoy it while it lasts
imagining what the id shooter family reunion would be like, and conversations would no doubt be just a series of grunts
actually it reformed
i don't remember did BJ make any noise in Wolfenstein 3D
so it never goes away
i got the screenshot so that's proof for me
also damn the area that developed around where I put My House is great lmao
ah, railroad city. The best strat
i could be mistaken but I swear he goes YEAH at the end of an episode
gotta double check that
if pollution from traffic wasn't so damn broken i wouldnt mind using roads
It's unreal how bad it is
YES HE DOES OK
i vividly remember that omg
although i love SimCity on SNES for a variety of reasons, I'll not deny that pollution is one of the most aggravating parts of the game
you literally cannot fix it as a problem
no you're not wrong
i went fishing with my roommate the other day and there were a bunch of cans and oil on the water :(
YEAH
f
king love that, surprised i remembered it
https://youtu.be/4qAwRwgEwfk
BJ's neck is as thick as his head holy hell
Fun fact: BJ Blazkowicz is Commander Keen's grandfather, and Commander Keen is Doomguy's great-great-grandfather.
yesh
Greatest (and weirdest) family tree ever.
hold on i have a cute image
ok i cant find it so this will have to do
https://www.tumblr.com/pikkish-moved/647479897118359553/daisy
Still cute!
Because it's kind of a ripoff from this:
nah ive seen it somewhere else before

Oh wow, they did.
wait wtf
nope
this can't be right, where is that above picture from?
saw it on twitter
Its fake
this is the one on the trailer
huh
Real logo
goes to show how easy it is believing in false information doesn't it
makes you think what else is false
it had the xbox logo in the corner so it looked real
just remember to always factcheck and never take things at face value, kids
twitter is especially terrible for this lol
yeah lol
also
BRUH
wtf why
why is TMNT collabing with everyone else except for fortnite
in the last week alone theres been Session, Roblox, Minecraft, and SF6 all getting TMNT collabs
and now fall guys
on top of all the other games TMNT has collabed with in the past year or two
this is actually getting irritating
The TMNT collab for Street Fighter 6 was pretty bad
there is only one sound made by him: YEE (when you finish some of the episodes)
or, as I call it, "when you get out of a boring class"
I love democracy
I had to delete ow2 to make space for bg3
otherwise I would've left a negative review as well
You don't need to have a game installed to leave a review
It just needs to be in your library and you need to have played it before
I haven't played it on steam before, no

The question isn't if I'm ready to play NieR Automata
THe question is am I willing to go insane.
I dunno when I'll be ready for it
you play ff14, i think its already too late to worry about sanity
i know they have crossover with nier, you have a minion
Oh, I suppose you did figure that out eventually
Yeah, it's the Alliance Raid series for ShB, it broke me mentally and that's why I'm afraid of diving in.
Replicant was bad enough

well shit
best part of GTAV online is now dead
On bright side. It means people who actually know what the community wants will be running gta 6 online
and then get their suggestions ignored?
The steam reviews on Overwatch 2 are made by people who have definitely never made a video game
and I think reading them is going to drive me insane.
Well yeah
Most people have never made a videogame
They still deserve a videogame they like
okay but
you can't say things like "the people who make overwatch porn work harder than the people who make overwatch" and have it be the most liked review on the game
most of the reviews are calling the developers lazy
They aren't, I can assure you that
Well this one's just a dig and not actually meant to be true.
For as much as people like to call activision blizzard greedy & unkind to their workers they don't seem to ever think about why they would pay an entire development team to not work
The Overwatch development team is not "lazy" and that is not the source of any of the games problems.
Obviously the developers are working really hard, but it appears that they're just spinning their wheels because the game is not going anywhere
tell that to the people reviewing the game
though what's actually happening is that project direction keeps changing under constantly shifting team leads and goals and the work that is getting done gets thrown away (We were supposed to have an entire PVE campaign as recently as months ago)
team members have discussed as much publicly.
blame upper management
I just hate it when gamers' reasoning to hate on a game is "lazy devs", triple A developers aren't allowed to be lazy lol they have bosses that will fire them if they are not constantly producing them profit.
i'm sure the devs and people actually working on the game care and give a shit, but blizzard-activision doesn't treat its workers well
so the way I see it, when someone cries about "lazy devs," they're misplacing their blame because they're unaware (or don't care) of the fact that middle and upper management is the root problem
I mean, yeah this is exactly it, but then people abuse those developers on social media and when the game fails, it's the team members and not the upper management who take that failure, so.
People are very good at figuring out if there's a problem with a game, and it takes expertise to point out what the problem is
yeah, it's not a good situation
more people need to be made aware of the issues plaguing AAA video game studios
Well I think it's fine
and people need to just not abuse anyone no matter what the situation is, that's never the right response even if they have correctly identified the asshole
I disagree
The OW2 reviews, for sure there's a fair number of players whose anger against it is well justified. But i'd say the vast majority of other negative reviews are just bandwagoning the shitting on/hating of their games - which is not exclusive to Blizz, it's pretty much happening to a lot of games these days
(and social media sites need to stop encouraging abuse)
Studios like Blizzard-Activision need to have their higher ups glassed from orbit
It's not a user's job to diagnose a game. It's the people making the game.
Yes but a user is responsible for buying the game
So by not buying, they cease supporting the current business practices
And that's why a bad review for the wrong reason is still desirable
this is the most transparent case of "violent agreement" we've had in a while
But, most users aren't plugged into the Internet like we are
So even if you get 40,000 mouthbreathers on reddit to not buy whatever shit Activision-Blizzard farts out, there will be 4,000,000 that still snap it up
so idk, it's a shit situation that's a symptom of a lot of gross problems that are too difficult for any one person to untangle
Blizz's OW2 plan was also ambitiousto the extrme, to quote one of the directors:
"The Overwatch team, especially at its inception, considered itself an MMO development team. As we transitioned away from that original concept and started creating Overwatch, we included plans to one day return to that scope. We had a crawl, walk, run plan. Overwatch was the crawl, a dedicated version of PvE was the walk, and an MMO was the run. It was built into the DNA of the team early on, and some of us considered that final game a true realization of the original vision of Project Titan."
The scrapped titan just slimmed down to the OW part, and they wanted OW 2 (with the pve stuff that was initially announced) to be the Walk stage, basically attempting the plan again. But I believe they just couldn't justify the cost and just couldn't get it where they wanted in the time they had
time to finish getting ready for work
While I also really wanted the PVE mode I do genuinely believe that it was scrapped for a reason and that things would only be worse if it had actually released. Something is wrong with the development process itself of Ow that I think needs to be fixed before the game can do better.
The Overwatch team, especially at its inception, considered itself an MMO development team.
Because 99% of MMOs don't just fucking die immediately.
Well you say that
They thought WoW would die off and Titan was supposed to be their next thing, but WOW has never died
(and then the whole scope grew too much and all the various other issues which lead to OW on its own releasing)
99% of MMOs also aren't made by companies like activision blizzard :P
They're either made by studios too small to really get the ball rolling on an MMO or by studios big enough but whos model is to basically just release and kill games instantly if they don't make a profit (NCSoft and Gameforge)
Riot Games is the only triple A studio making a new MMO that I know of.
I guess the western release of Blue Protocol but I think that's more of a gacha with coop like Genshin, and it's already out in Asia
I wonder if WoW had died and the directing staff was moved over from that, if Overwatch would actually be in that "walk" stage today. We'll never know.
There are more MMOs that just fucking die than that stays, since MMO is a genre where only the popular ones can even try to survive.
MMOs also generally require massive budgets to even try to make.
It is just, not an easy genre to enter let alone remain in
That actually depends.
There are relatively low-budget MMOs. But they are like...different
A whole different world
yeah I mean like, proper MMORPG games
The MMO genre has radically changed over the last two decades
they are really hard to make, and they require really large playerbases to survive, so it's not a genre that indie developers can really compete in.
I'm glad XIV hasn't shit the bed yet
That's why I briefly worked on the community Toontown revival project as a developer lol
Do you know how rare MMO experience is on a resume?
XIV has been around long enough to sort of cement itself in the genre
So has WoW, but look at how that's doing
like if a new MMO releases and is bad, it dies instantly, but if an MMO thats been around for 10 years has a bad expansion, its usually fine
great?
Dragonflight has been incredibly reviewed so far
I thought WoW was still bleeding users over poorly received expanions
Ah ok
I really haven't been looking at WoW at all lately
MMOs do tend to have this...inertia
Yeah
Dragonflight is in an odd place
WoW also still has the most players of any MMO and part of the decline was mostly that MMOs themselves are not as popular anymore. WoW isn't as big as it used to be but those people that used to play WoW aren't playing FFXIV primarily, they're playing entirely different genres
Like, I think wow sits around 3 million players? It used to have 15 million
12 mill
Huh, that's not the impression I have
Didn't wrath peak at 15?
It seemed like during Shadowbringers we had a TON of WoW refugess
Nah it peaked at upper 12s, it never went past 13
They were just incredibly vocal.
ah my bad.
and most of them didn't stop actually playing WoW (even though I wish some of them would)
Asmongold made a big deal about quitting WoW for FFXIV but he still plays WoW and comments on every single patch note whining like a baby
Please go play FFXIV instead nobody likes you here
I don't pay attention to streamers
good.
Dragonflight doesn't have the absolute hype levels of Legion that brought many people to the game and stuck around. However, compared to BFA and Shadowlands, it is actually KEEPING people there. The retention is very very strong
"Why do people play video games?"
"Because they are fun."
never stops being relevant
A lot of MMO these days are more... cyclic? I guess a wave type thing. People play for X weeks or 2 ish months for the content and stuff, then stop the sub and then come back for the next major patch
MMO actually is quite weird as it has certain amount of people if you ask them
"Why do you play this game"
"I don't know, because I've been playing it"
DF is doing a great job of keeping people for most of that time period though
I'd call Dragonflight better than Legion for mostly class design reasons, I think the few extra years of updates have made the general feel of most specs smoother
Yeah me and Denzy have put XIV on the back-burner for roughly a year due to IRL shit, but we still remain subbed
1.X
too lazy to unsub, and our play is so sporadic it's easier to just leave it subbed
I do want something similar to class halls back though, those were very fun.

BFA and SL would have definitely been too soon for a class hall repeat
But since I'm nmostly recovered from surgery, we'll probably dig back into XIV harder soon
DF maybe but I think the next expansion should definitely be the one to return them
maybe after we clear out TOTK and some other games first
I can tell that there are surprisingly people who keep play their game just because they've played long
But now, work for real
It kinda shit the bad so hard that they had to burn the mattress and replace the bed but it still works!
Hi, near 20 year player of WOW here. Never unsubbed.
Square Enix is lucky enough to be one of the only companies that can afford a failure like that lol
indeed, and this always makes me worry about them
Most companies if they release FF14 1.0 they just die
"Afford" as in "nearly bankrupt the entire company"
I literally saw people play a game simply because of sunk cost fallacy
Ah, but it didn't ;3
like surely it's an important life skill to spend your free time on stuff you actually want to be doing
I am pretty lucky that my brain somehow is quite free from it
I play league of legends, clearly i don't have that life skill

My relationship with League of Legends is 100% sunk cost fallacy. I've played enough to become really good and because I'm good I feel obligated to keep playing.
Overall design quality and whatnot of the game, I think DF is on par or better than Legion, yes. But the burning legion and class halls and artifact weapons and a whole lot of other things were just more exciting and more "FUCK YEAH" levels of hype than "HERE BE DRAGONS" of Dragonflight
I am weirdly able to detach from a game very well
Frankly I'm glad we can tone back the hype levels sometimes, DF has had a lot more "domestic" quest feel and I like that.
obviously not all of DF is like that, but I like it when it is.
Hype does not equal scale though
Legion best forever
(I got the best legendary as my 2nd)
Legion of Legends
My favourite world quests in Shadowlands were the ones where I was helping the people in Bastion clean the floor or put scrolls back
I like little stuff like that.
Like, Warlords of Draenor is not crazy huge scale compared to say, Shadowlands and so on. But WoD has one of the most amounts of hype of any expansions of WOW, by the metrics
WoD has the best cinematic

and sick trailers
TL;DR, hype
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Dragonflight's missing that, but the sheer quality of the game right now is what's keeping people playing the whole time. As I said, retention is sky high
I can say my 4 most hyped games ever are the 2 new Zeldas and WoD + Legion
Rare Blizzard W, lmao
I actually really didn't like WoD
The xpac itself was so so, that's true
I think it's actually the worst one.
Wow not even Gojo for Fortnite?
The Gojo skin in Fortnite doesnt have sunglasses they dropped the ball so hard
Nah. SL did more to kill off WOW than anything else
SL was still more fun to actually play than WoD was
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TLzhlsEFcVQ but you can't tell me that this doesn't "get the blood pumping"
Return to a savage world. Garrosh Hellscream has escaped through the Dark Portal and forged the orc clans of old into a terrifying war machine known as the Iron Horde. Take your place on the front lines of the battle for Draenor 11.13.14.

I was sooo into the story starting from this until the end of Legion
I'm surprised that you are arguing between SL and WoD, not talking about BfA at all
I cant stay subbed for more than 2 months in modern wow
played 2 months of BFA, SL and DF
then even when they do big patches its kinda hard to get back into it
I think thats more me than the game though, I only played 2 months of all 3 classic games too
Square is the only company I know that pretty much every title they release they say it underperformed based on their expectations.
It's actually a miracle that they are still in business if you ask me.
They are like, opposite Nostradamus
Their expectations are just too high and also they make a lot of really questionable decisions
Cataclysm classic hype cataclysm classic hype
Babylon's Fall, whatever Crypto stuff they were getting into, that jobsim microtransaction game they released
makes you wonder if their games would be half as good if they had realistic expectations
Square releases a lot of bad games.
Square just releases a lot of games in general.
I never said they didn't
Oh oops, my window didn't scroll. Didn't realize there was an active conversation.
True, to be fair tho, it releases a lot of good games they have unrealistic expectations for as you mention.
Problem is, I assume they budget them accordingly for those unrealistic expectations, which makes me wonder how they make money at all if every game they make they overspend on.
I doubt they're budgeting for only a small profit margin
They expect a game to make 100 million more than it costs and it only makes 25 million more but that still recoups all development costs
but it's also only 25% of the way to these expectations, so they're mad about it
Maybe that's the case, for the good games at least
My game only makes gobs and gobs of money I'm so mad
this is how capitalists act yeah
It is not enough to be profitable but profits must increase every year or its bad.
No way Babylon's Fall made back the water cooler costs, nevermind the rest of development costs tho
yeah that was a steaming pile
I wonder if Avengers made back its costs. probably?
Like, the number of copies sold for that one was in the dozens I believe
Looked bad in the teasers, looked bad in the trailers, looked bad on release.
Plus the fact that they made platinum make this is insult to injury.
Oh nvm apparently Avengers did lose them money
It cost 190m to make and sold only 3m units
Even if every single copy sold was at 60$ (which it definitely wasn't) that's a 10 million loss
The game had a lot of cosmetic mtx tho
So maybe it made some money
If it did tho, it wasn't much
Nah Square said it was a loss apparently
Yeah square lost of money past few years
Square has said FF 16 underperformed.
But thats what happens when you try chasing nfts and live service games
Which is very concerning for them
