UK released guideline principles for the industry to follow regarding lootboxes with self regulation
I just won my first duel of the day and it put me to silver tier 1.
Nice
I've been slacking hard on MD the last 2-3 months but now with new dumb DW support out it's time to ruin people's days
now that I'm done being distracted by Outer Wilds, I'm finally going to make another attempt at finishing Returnal
I only only started playing a few days ago as well, and I've only played around with Dragonmaids.
Accurate
Dragonmaid is a pretty solid deck for newcomers. I played it a lot last year and enjoyed it but I've forgotten all the combo plays lol
Dragon maids..?
Pretty sure that’s an anime
And a YGO deck
Clearly I’ve been missing out
Yes
Definitely been missing out.
Have you ever been or seen someone so drunk
That they forget everything the next day and regret it.
Well What about forgetting you hired a dragon to be your maid.
As Kobayashi sets off for another day at work,
She opens her apartment door only to be met by a dragon.
The dragon then transforms into a cute girl dressed in a maid outfit,
intro...
anime sure is weird
Thank you captain obvious!
you're welcome, citizen
If anyone wants to learn more about Dragonmaids.

til france exists in yuguoh
Yeah in the Bonds Beyond Time movie Jaden is in Italy
Apparently France does exist, I've found a French character.http://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Sherry_LeBlanc
It does indeed
Sometimes in Egypt as well
YGO is largely supposed to take place in real places
America exists too
With the arguable main character of the entire franchise being Egyptian I don't find it surprising that our countries exist there too
it's mostly just cities that are fictional places
and yeah, one of the most iconic characters is 'murican
aggressively american
IN AMERICA
Yep
I think I've just about made it to Returnal's biome 6 boss
today's following the usual pattern of a few warm-up deaths then decent progress the instant I stop sucking
ugh, the boss actually killed me, even with my revives
still it was all stuff I could've dodged so I know now I don't need to do any of biome 5 for this
Insane how a single update with a seal managed to give TF2 yet another all time peak

What I really want is to feel the upper body impact of falling off a roof
What could go wrong
Combine that with Apple Vision and we get The Oasis levels of immersion
I wonder if this is derived from the haptic gaming vest from circa 2008
since the image ain't loading
I will approve of any company whose name is OWO
can't wait to experience how it feels to get fucking stabbed
I did some video work for a furry con a while back with an underlying company called Our Way Oklahoma.
Which was always abbreviated, of course
(they have since renamed the company.)
Haptic feedback undershirt? Totally a furry company working on better fursuits
Cowards
A custom cooling shirt might be better
#Returnal: welp, as I hoped, electropylons are the hard counter to the 6th boss
I was just about to ping you to ask you where you were
And yeah, those pylons are OP
||I know there's a 3rd act so this isn't everything, but still yay||
omg ||the biome 6 datacube processor is right behind where the boss sits||, that's just mean
''With AC Mirage, we're going back to the roots of Assassin's Creed''
Also AC Mirage: still RPG, teleportation skills, fucking haptic feedback bee stings
thanks Ubisoft, you really know exactly what we wanted
haha the OASIS is immediately what i thought of
83% advertising space before users experience a seizure!
ads with the haptic feedback shirt and ar/vr headsets are going to go crazy
Every year it gets increasingly funnier to me how much they resemble Abstergo as a company
Imagine everytime you lied down on the Animus you had to go through a bunch of annoying ads and pop ups
for MA's amusement, here's my stats page after completing Act 2:
Very nice
I should dig up my stats when I get the chance
I’m at the end of the final act IIRC
Only 11 deaths and already getting into act 3, damn, making me look bad
this is one of the rare times when I might actually be above average at a video games
of course the moment my focus or patience runs low I die in the starting area, every time, so it's still "might"
hm... interesting status
great, i'm being gaslit by my fucking wife
this is what i get for saving your ass from that freaky skeleton god, you ungrateful bitch
ooooh I had no idea you were playing that
I hope you enjoy ||Pollo Power||
ah yes the thing from Dead Cells
oh my god i'm going to shit explosive eggs aren't i
BRUH I KNEW THERE WERE LIMBO VIBES ABOUT THIS PLACE
i feel old recgonizing a Limbo reference
it's not that old right?
#Returnal: that is not at all where I expected to find it but YES
it was part of the beginning of the "indie games are good actually" phase of our lives
the real question now is how many of these do I need to find
and can I accomplish anything else this cycle now that I've found it
oh good, if I restart a cycle from the menu it doesn't increase my "death" count
WipeOut Phantom Edition is an enhanced PC source port of the original WipeOut. It uses game data from the PlayStation version and is much more comparable to the PlayStation version than the official PC port.
Thank god for source ports
well, at least Inside is way more recent haha for sure it's like a couple years old or something right?
dear god
Almost thought that said phantom menace
Wipeout Pod Racing
or even better, Wipeout POD Racing. (If you get the reference, you're a genius)
I'm so tempted to get this game you guys don't even know
speaking of, there was a new star wars pod racing game released very recently wasn't there?
Odd that there is no source code provided.
Returnal?
Yes
But I bought so much crap lately I can't justify buying more stuff AFTER the sale
plus, considering the difficulty, this is one I'd hold off on until you can be confident you'll have several hours to play uninterrupted (and be in the mood to do so)
Yeah
oh that's only 4 years ag- wait
I cant focus on jack anything
my guess is that it's based on leaked code. There's an issue asking for source code release, we'll see
Yike if it is leaked.
(the comments in https://github.com/wipeout-phantom-edition/wipeout-phantom-edition/issues/5 make me think so)
I remember reading about WipeOut 1 source being leaked a while ago too, but maybe I misremember it
hey, remember that's how we got Thief source ports too 🙂
the Thief source code was found on a CD in a trashcan in 2010
the Daikatana source port was also made this way, John Romero handed over the source to a modding group under NDA
(I consider it leaking because he hasn't been part of Eidos for a loooong time, he did this a long time after Ion Storm went defunct)
he clearly got sick of people wanting to be his bitch
I just don't know how Sony would respond, considering Liverpool is gone and the og devs are also pretty much gone.
liverpool still exists as a city
Wipeout Pure was more of my jam tbh.
Pulse is... a little different but I don't hate it. It pretty much is an advanced Wipeout iteration.
Also, Pure has probably one of the best Wipeout Intros in the series. https://youtu.be/8n9QqB1uiU8 (Flashing content warning)

Surprised there’s already romhacks for scarlet and violet
Good
Pokemon games never live up to their potential
Fan intervention is basically required.

why on earth is rain still a thing in totk
PK over here wishing Tears was as hot as europe is
it wasn't a big deal for me, but I guess most of my early game climbing was in caves, and I found the quest for the anti-slip outfit pretty early so I had more pieces of it as I got farther into the game
"Why isn't this game just desert?"
FYI theres the #1067547311640678480 thread
ad rain is still a thing because its used as a puzzel mechanic
but you can get potions and armour to deal with it now so thats neat
anyway
it was annoying game design
I tried playing diablo with the controller but it seems like I have to manually map each button ?
it might not be the case... I tried the remapping and it didn't seem to recognize my controller so it might be a battlenet thing
It might be your controller or bnet or something, yeah. Should be remappable
Xbox and PlayStation controllers should be premapped.
it should be but here we are
you should ask DSP how he feels about that lol
I'm currently participating in the master duel monster type festival and pretty well with the Lab loaner deck.
I'm totally going to make a Lab deck next.
it was going well.
HUMANKIND game released August 2021, and to mark about two years since the release of this 4X historical strategy game from Amplitude Studios, as a clear and direct competitor to Sid Meier's Civilization 6. Humankind launched to mixed reviews, hyped as the Civ 6 killer, leaving many players frustrated. Since launch, Humankind has seen some impre...
I just got the duel mate you could get by participating in the festival, and with that done I'm going to bed.
https://www.theverge.com/2023/7/19/23797238/microsoft-activision-blizzard-merger-agreement-extension
Expected
What's the tl;dr?
- It was not a Civ killer
- It had some bad bugs out of the gate that pushed some people away, but have since been fixed.
- It has a thriving mod community, but there's just not enough players to really support big mods.
- It's a fun game, but plays rather different to Civ, so people looking for a Civ alternate may bounce off it.
- Worth buying on sale just to try it out, last big Steam sale had it 80% off.
Oh, and the console port is likely dead.
Ah, it feels so good to go back to Rayman Origins after so many years
My old save file was still on my PC! I deleted it tho. I want a new experience
I did try it when it was a... demo? Open beta? The combat felt too different to me to really enjoy
The combat is very different. It's much more tactical, you have to plan your moves well and take terrain into account. It's fun in its own way... but most of the time I'd rather just do it the Civ way.
This is why you don't label things an "X killer"
The company didn't. Overhyped fans did.
did the Humankind devs use that label, or was it a public zeitgeist thing?
zeitgeist, got it
It's no no man's sky
Remember when Breath of the Wild was hyped as the next Cod Killer?
Because if so you need to check your faculties
Of course I remember this real event
I haven't heard that
I bet @Clyde remembers. We need him in Manechat
Might be worth transfering manechats entire userbase to a server with Clyde
Well Link eats a lot of fishes, I'd assume some of them are cods
that pretty much sums up my whole experience with the game
Yeah. Turns out, I prefer the civ building aspect more than the combat aspect of 4x games.
What was the combat like? Instances like games like endless legend/age of wonders 4?

interesting that the biome 1 and 3 fragments practically gave themselves to me immediately, but biome 2 is still hiding its
I'm just running around with a spitmaw now for variety's sake
welp, I cleared literally every room in the biome and went back looking for green triangles on the map and turned out ||tanking the glowy red water was the answer

You should have an upgrade by now which lets you walk in that water
Among other hazards
I could tell you what zone has it if needed
Two planets approach the Roche Limit
I actually looked that up earlier since I do not have it, I'll probably try to find it when I'm back in b5 but since the game apparently lets you never get it it's probably too late for it to matter
right at the time I had no idea I missed anything
and I already have fragments 1-3 which iirc are all the places that had red pools anyway
but anyway time for b4
oh right, b4 also has red pools
welp that one was also tankable
It was okay but not a civ killer

True but I hate battle.net
Its just hilarious to see them put it on steam
Really wish they would put starcraft 2 on steam
Damnit. Not only did you post it before me, you posted the exact same quote I was thinking of when I first saw this news
#Returnal: wooooow the 5th fragment made me feel stupid for redoing this whole area
also I still haven't found the upgrade that's allegedly here despite redoing nearly every room
||now I've done every accessible b5 room, but I see one unused door high up on the map that appears to be linked to a translocator I maybe could've reached when I first entered and can't now; I'm going to assume it's hiding there and just move on to fragment 6||

of course
THE ARCHER CLASS
IS MADE UP
OF ARCHERS
This has similar energy to this
Space genshin
I can see through her hair on the eye
that's a standard anime thing yes
that is also from the same series, funnily enough
Fate sure does love its weird redundant writing
to be fair, the meme line was a translation "error"
I'm not familiar with the archer line but my guess is that in the original text it was defining the English word with the Japanese word (I've read FSN, so I know it used the English "archer") and there was another failure to properly localize that into something less literal
I blame UBW because that's the first result i got

I suppose that one could be snarking about how many of the Archers don't seem to ever use a bow
Or as Nero would say
Umu! (TL Note: Umu means Indeed)
(that's not actually a translation, it's just that one of the last episodes of Fate Last/Encore I watched had dubbed voice with subs and so I actually learned what Nero means when she says umu)
I suppose I've been doing a casual speedrun so this is all the equipment I have on me for this last bit
all I need is electropylons, right?
confirmed: all you need is electropylons
wheeeee
I vibed again
I'm gonna keep going until this place finally kills me and call that my score; I'm curious how far I can get but otherwise I think I'm about ready to move on to another game
It's been a while since I've heard the audio and I'm by no means an expert in this franchise. I think the line is accurate, it's just nonsensical without context. The context is comparing humans to Servants, and I belive its difficult/harder/impossible to kill Servants in normal methods. Hence, "(regular) people die when they are killed"
I think at least
This franchise is nuts
right, that's why I put "error" in quotes
I haven't heard the original line in ages either but what I remember is that to an experienced speaker he's "obviously" contrasting human frailty with all the superhuman nonsense going on
Yeah basically
and the chosen English phrasing was just so overly literal it came off as idiotic
yes but no context fate is funny
I started making a Lab deck, I've been playing in the festival and found I like the play style.
Here's how it's coming along.
*not actually a fate line but this is a line i adore
and now i have to binge Unlimited Blade Works Abridged again
Fuck I swear this and SAO Abridged are two things I keep coming back to grumble grumble
how am I not dead yet!? I brought a shotgun to a long-range boss fight I've never done before!
finally died in phase 3, though it was as much carelessness as anything else
oh that's what the planet's name means, really should've looked that one up sooner
ok, these are my Tower of Sisyphus stats after that one attempt:
empirically speaking, I am 2.5% above exactly average!
ok, now I'm done with Returnal
I just got to Gold tier 5 in master duel.
My Lab deck got some big updates.
Reminder, these two closing soon

I feel like a purple pikmin
Man I'm hype for this game
I’m amazed that I live in a world where I can play a major PC game like the Mass Effect trilogy in a remastered edition on a portable handheld device like Steam Deck and it runs at a solid 60FPS and just… everything works.
It is magical
Im commander shepherd and this is my favorite post on the citadel.
AK74U
There's two new Sunbreak event quests. Swole Simian Silliness and Lunag-awoooooooon!
mass effect is, what, 12 years old now? even remastered they only did so much to the graphics
2007 for ME1, 16 years
its a nostalgic game now
i still have the, what's it name, ultimate edition? complete edition? either way i have that downloaded when i bought it cheap on sale. as soon as i need another extended break from ff14 (important to take breaks when playin mmos, no matter how much fun they are) (though when that will occur exactly is a mystery), i plan to make a mass effect thread bc it will be my first time ever playin the triology. quite literally the only things i know about the games is that 1) its space game 2) main character is called sheppherd (sheppard? somethin akin to that) and 3) a blue alien guy is the popular romance pick
well, and that its a bioware game series
i played the dragon age triology that was very fun and i enjoyed it a lot
I'm a bit wary bc space settings aren't rlly my thing, but if the companions are as well written n have fun interactions like the dragon age ones im confident ill manage
im commander shepherd and this is my favourite store in the citadel
I still need to do a run through ME. I played the original back on the 360, karma breaks and all and have two versions of the "complete" edition (360 and PC respectfully).
ME really nails the big blockbuster space action movie feel, so if that's your thing you should go for it
Also IMO, go for female Shepard, I'm sorry, the dude is okay, but the female version VA is just better
its still one of the best scifi RPG games out there
its really well done, a believable universe, fun characters
well, that was gonna be my pick anyway
one of these days games will finally have a nb voiced protagonist choice n then i will vibe thru the stratosphere
its, not really, but like i said as long as the characters are fun im willin to bear with the space stuff
afterall thats how i expect endwalker to go when i get there in a few months to years
||the moon's haunted n i so wish i didnt have to bother but if i dont go itll make alphi sad, so begrudgingly i shall board the space ship||
I think male shep is the only one that has the best/most unexpected line in the games though. (bringi don't click) ||I'm sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you- I'm getting a lot of bullshit on this line.||
omg i didnt know that line existed
Honestly I feel like OW2 must be in a terrible state if Blizzard is bringing it to Steam
Since they’re giving up 30% of their revenue for more player reach
they are apparently bringing it to the EGS as well in the future
not fully confirmed yet though but some stuff points to it
as well as them possibly collabing with fort
cause Blizzard recently DMCA'ing a fort modder who ported OW2 characters into the game claiming the modder "leaked future content"
kinda dumb on blizzard's part to even reveal that within the DMCA itself lol
Blizzard continued to engage the Overwatch® and Warcraft® communities with live operations in the second quarter. While engagement and player investment in Overwatch 2 declined sequentially in the quarter, the Overwatch team is looking forward to the August 10 release of Overwatch 2: Invasion. This will be the largest seasonal update yet, planned to include new PVE Story Missions, a new game mode, and a new hero progression system as well as an additional hero.
So yes, OW2 has been in decline after they killed the pve mode.
is OW2 even worth jumping into lol
i had kinda wanted to get into it cause the pride event last month, but never ended up actually downloading it
I hear it has one of the worst battle passes in gaming.
oof
So it's just a pass with no battle
i dont think it can lose to Hearthstone having two battle passes
I keep seeing that as a game, the fighting and the stuff in the matches? It's really good and fun. As a product, battlepasses and all, it's terrible
probably not worth getting into if the battle pass system as a whole sucks then
I still don't know what a battle pass is for sure. It's like an in-game purchase where you pay money and then have to do in-game activities to earn a bunch of stuff on a predetermined list?
But if you don't play you get nothing?
yeah you basically buy the battle pass, and then level up by playing to earn the rewards from the tiers
Usually battle passes have a free tier too. It's design to keep people playing so the community is healthy.
yeah
Except OW BP seems to be very grindy and slow so it does the opposite.
People stop playing because they don't feel it's worth their time.
And shooters is a crowded scene compared to the golden era of Overwatch.
It feels kinda silly to pay and also have to play or else you don't get rewards, so I hope the free tier is reasonable
The premise goes something like "you pay $20, you get less value if you don't play after that, but if you play enough you get more than $20 value"
Usually
Blizzard is also a very stubborn company that doesn't seem to course correct until things are in a dire state.
Many BPs have instant rewards, but very often they aren't equivalent of what you pay for
Which is why all eyes are on the Diablo team after they released one of the worst balance patches in gaming history.
Most of the times it's definitely beneficial if you are going to play the game anyway
like with fort, theres 100 main tiers, with 30 or so free tiers
then after tier 100 is 100 more bonus rewards for the people up for the challenge
with its Battle pass its only like 8 dollars
other games have done a similar thing but are usually a bit more expensive
Most games you don't have to buy the BP at the start, you can wait until you've progressed it then pay.
Yeah modern BPs are pretty flexible about such situations
I think in Fortnite the battle pass gives you more than enough currency to buy the next battle pass too which is pretty good
yeah fort's can be bought at any point in the season as well
the free tiers are like sprinkled throughout
yeah you get 1500 vbucks total
so you basically can just keep buying the next one
IF done correctly, it is basically an improved subscription plan
they also have the crew subscription service that gives you the battle pass instantly just for owning the crew pack, and then 1000 bonus vbucks and a whole skin set
which is 12 dollars a month
so thats even more worth it than just buying the battle pass itself
Honestly I personally don't think bad BP itself should be a huge problem in a decent game, since one can simply ignore it, but usually a game with a bad BP system is bad by itself
yeah
pubg mobile being one lol
pubg mobile actually annoys the hell out of me
like
i like the console version
but the phone version has the dumb crate shit
like you have to spend like 500 dollars just to even get the chance to get the dragon ball skins
and thats only the two goku versions, two vegeta versions, and then frieza
not even counting both gohans and piccolo
which isnt available for like 24 more days
This may be a hot take but actually I don't care much about the pricing of cosmetics
yeah same
im fine with the prices of cosmetics if theyre like able to be directly bought
but if its the crate shit then hell no
like with fort the most expensive skins in its shop are only 20 dollars/2000 something vbucks at most
below that the skins are usually 1500 vbucks, 1200 vbucks, or 800 vbucks
though recently theyve been bundling skins with the other items in the set for that skin
so its only the 2000 something vbucks for the bundle to get all the items instead
I'm probably the least against-randombox/gacha person in this entire server so
id have less of an issue with loot crates/etc if it wasnt that expensive and RNG based
like going back to the pubg mobile thing
not even worth spending 500 dollars to get the dragon ball skins
like at least with Fort, to get all the dragon ball items with their bundles, its like 13k vbucks
which is only 84 dollars
somewhat pricey still but its at least kinda reasonable given how many dragon ball skins and other cosmetics there are in the game

I don't have strong opinions on the pricing of purely cosmetic microtransactions, the bigger issues imo are when these games either obfuscate what their prices are, and/or deliberately encourage a culture of shaming free or low-paying players as if it's inherently wrong to not want to be a whale
On the other hand shaming whales is always morally correct
if one happens to be a whale, is financially fortunate enough that this is affordable, and one's game has none of these deeper predatory design issues... then I'd be fine with it
how many microtransaction games actually pass that bar I have no idea
like at least with Fort, to get all the dragon ball items with their bundles, its like 13k vbucks
which is**only 84 dollars **
for cosmetics
"oh but it's reasonable because of how many skins there are-"
I'm going to put this politely
that's a fucking ridiculous standard of "value"
you are paying more than a AAA game
for a cosmetic pack
in a f2p game
that's absurd. i say this as a gacha player fully aware of how much i've spent, i'm aware i'm part of the problem, but holy shit i don't buy $80 bundles
80 one dollar bundles
i mean
ive spent like 14k usd on the game since july of 2019 lol
ive never had an issue with the prices of the cosmetics
im at like 1,411 skins at the moment

out of the 1500 something skins

also with the dragon ball stuff, its not a single 80 dollar bundle
its multiple bundles together that equal the amount
with 3 of them released later on
after the original bundles came out
i dont think ur gonna convince anyone that's a sensible purchase no matter how u frame it
Jello. Tree.
to me it was worth it
Every time general gaming lights up and it's fortnite talk again i'm like 😞
THIS IS NOT A GOOD THING
THIS IS AN ADDICTION
PLEASE, IM BEING 100% SERIOUS HERE, GET PROFESSIONAL HELP
IM NOT JOKING OR BEING SARCASTIC, THIS IS GENUINE SHOCK AND CONCERN
its not an addiction tho
its a hobby for me
also its not like im disregarding my rent and food, etc completely and blowing through my paychecks
i make enough that im able to buy the skins and stuff in the game
without causing issues
You could buy a car, or a down-payment on a house
But you bought skins
i dont need a car
and im fine where im at
dont need to buy a house
plus i cant live on my own at all
so where im at is fine
Sorry I missed your question. Yeah, combat in Humankind is like Endless Legend.
my city is small enough that everywhere i need to go is within walking/biking distance
so a car would be a complete waste of money
plus gas
not even worth buying
again, you arent goin to convince anyone. lets just collectively drop it
Tunic: dear fucking lord, these alligators fucking suck
And here I thought I was bad with my $1k TF2 backpack
But atleast I could cash out if I wanted
stop. this topic is over
another one bites the dust
I have a spare code for The Crew Motorfest closed Beta if you’d like it since it’s an EU code @visual hill
Dolphin Emulator
Well that blew up, huh? If you follow emulation or just gaming on the whole, you've probably heard about the controversy around the Dolphin Steam release and the Wii Common Key. There's been a lot of conclusions made, and while we've wanted to defend ourselves, we thought it would be prudent to contact lawyers first to make sure that our underst...
Dolphin devs finally talk about what happened
Tl;dr, they're legally in the right, but dolphin is not going to be on steam
The whole emulation industry is frankly in a legal gray zone anyway, there is no reason for them to try too hard
It's not like Dolphin would announce "Uhh actually we violated law and we were almost fucked" anyway
Nintendo talked with their own lawyers, Dolphin did the same
Yeah them trying to get on Steam was ultra paint huffing mode
well not really
legally they're in the right as they said, otherwise nintendo would ahve shut them down a decade ago, but steam didnt wanna risk it
Can't really tell what is going to happen when they try to argue everything on court, it is a total mystery at this point what would the legal decision will be. Both have point of arguments and both have lawyers behind them. The "legal protection" emulators have is old and vague.
Nobody, including the game corps, want to challenge it
And I'm pretty sure that goes same to emulators
They don't want to challenge it
And frankly they don't have to
It is good as it is now
17 U.S.C. § 1201(f) is a significant legal protection for emulation in the US, and it is why Nintendo has yet to legally challenge any emulator with the DMCA anti-circumvention clauses despite the law going into effect 25 years ago. Unless a court rules that our understanding of the law is incorrect, we have every reason to believe that our decryption of Wii game discs is covered by this exemption.
To be honest, not really sure why Dolphin wanted to be on Steam in the first place, if anything being in that crowded storefront makes you less visible...
This is a really sketchy argument; it can mean that "the decision is simply so rigid that no one will ever argue and it is there for 25 years untouched", but can also mean that "the decision is old as hell and honestly who knows what will happen"
And afaik it is more likely the latter; but it's too risky for anyone to actually go for legal dispute anyway
Cloud saves
I use RetroArch on steam for cloud save parity between my PCs + steam deck
Aren't emulators legal so long as they don't include any proprietary files (BIOS)?
It's not "written in law", it just have few decade old court decisions. But yes, as far as nothing happens it is mostly covered as reverse engineering and is protected at least partially.
DOSBox is an emulator, but uses no files from any version of DOS, and is often packaged with games to make them work properly.
I know EA uses it to get very old titles working.
The current state of emulation, I would say, is in "undocumented mutual peace agreement"
Like either side don't want to go too aggressive and try to deal with potential legal mess.
It's not like corps can't murder a single emulator anyway, they can sue them multiple times and kill their business with legal cost
Sony lost their DMCA case against Bleem, but the whole legal dispute was just enough to make Bleem shut down due to the cost.

Why Are Emulators Legal? Dolphin vs. Nintendo, and the Fate of Dolphin Emulator
Everyone knows that emulators are legal... but why are they legal? Emulation is far more fragile than most p...
Interestingly the uploader just made this comment:
I skimmed through the blog post after reading your comment, and it does not look good. If they are going to continue pushing forward like this, they need to consult a lawyer. The video goes into why 1201(f) isn't a sufficient remedy for Nintendo's present argument: it's not enough to say, here's 1201(f) without justification for why 1201(f) is a cure for a 1201(a) argument, and that justification doesn't presently exist in the law, nor is the offered rationale in any way compelling. I need to take the time to write up a proper response when I am at a computer and not just using a phone.
Dolphin also isn't paying attention... they didn't read the footnotes, which puts exactly such a legal action on the table.
They really ought to lay low and relax with these blog posts, especially if they are going to make legal arguments in them justifying their decision without the requisite legal knowledge. This is unnecessary and foolhardy behavior.
this is why they didnt make a blog post till they had more info
their initial one was ill-informed and they knew it but didnt want to say anything incase they made it worse
My view is did they need to say anything at all? Really what they should of done after the (frankly unnecessary) attempt to be listed on Steam failed they should of just shut their mouths, put their heads down and carried on the good work they do with their emulator.
It did seem like Nintendo simply just wanted them off Steam
Honestly the whole 'letter' just sounded like a warning
More than "we are coming, you are fucked"
I feel them doing this whole Steam listing thing was basically for publicity, but that's playing with fire when it comes to Nintendo, especially with something with legal grey areas like emulation has, it felt like that the previous status quo was at least something Nintendo could turn a blind eye to.
work's out, time to play Sable

It's not even the same developer!
They just randomly shout out another 2hu fangame because reasons???
Fuck, I guess it works!
The kicker is that Lost Branch of Legend launched BEFORE Dreamland of Infinity!

??? Wtf happened to Overwatch lmfao
Still in shock
eh they did announce it earlier in the year
Deadass TF2 hit new player count records while Overwatch 2 completely implodes
i was hoping for a new weapon or balance changes but

at least the weapon skins look rad
New weapons/balance adjustments would have been great, for sure. That being said, I'll take what I can get.
Adding a new gamemode was certainly not something I had anticipated, at least.
all TF2 had to do was add a cute seal into the game and a new all time peak players has been reached
This is strictly a seal meme only channel now
this one's for the TF2 haters who always laughed at TF2 calling it a dead game
I remember when matpat said the pyro was a gay man because his ring finger was the same length as his index finger
He deleted that video
Matpat has done irreparable harm to gaming discussion and I hate him :)
Lol, this is literally the devs (or is it just the one guy that's still standing?) just f*cking around and adding random shit because they can. I love it
I was under the impression that it's a fanmade map
Didnt help that overwatch 2 basically killed its main selling point with gutting the pve mode
It is. Valve just took it and said here. Content and buy lootboxes and stop saying our game is dead
“Were busying working on csgo 2”
Community maps can and do become official. Happens in CS as well.

Between 2017 and 2020 yeah it basically was
Then valve showed their actually doing stuff besides steam with half life alyx
except it never left steam's top 10 at all
a lot of things in that video were wrong when he posted it
Granted i don’t remember much of any updates for it during that time frame other than bug fixes
I like these floaty worm things
what
the only Pyro 'theory' I remember reading was that Pyro is actually a girl but I don't think that ever had any substantial reason to it and it was more just fans wanting to make that up, though it eventually came true that the original/classic Pyro is an old woman in the comics
Honestly as much as people say that it is dying and all that and I understand why they say it surprisingly enough TF2 never really lost that spot in internet popularity and despite falling off a little bit it never quite completely went away and a lot of people have been consistently playing, community content being created constantly, viral memes popping up from TF2 every now and again
Valve, to ex-Overwatch players: "You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me."
apparently I'm channeling Nire today because after Sable's tutorial I went immediately into this world's giant desert and have been stuck doing random stuff here for hours
Valve has teased the gender thing many times. In the main menu there used to be a stat thing that was like "5 kill streak with pyro. Can you beat her?" Which was patched a week later. There's also the official subtitles in the Meet the Pyro video using both pronouns.

I so hope they're gonna repeat the Wii U situation with the next console

Considering there's already the Switch OLED and Switch Lite the only way I can see anyone thinking a new Nintendo console isn't some form of add-on or different version of the already existing Switch is if it doesn't have the word Switch in it at all
not the remastered Peter face
/s
did they change MJ's face too? She looks so different and so much older
She looks like she's 40, which isn't necessarily a bad thing at all, but she just looks like a completely different person, more like MJ's mom than MJ herself
and Pete somehow looks younger
and miles hair
it'll all take some getting used to
I keep on mixing up peter and harry in the trailer because they look so similar
I kinda like Miles' new 'do but I do associate Miles more with the buzz cut than any other hairstyle
Also how the hell do you manage to get that hair in the mask?
magic
I don't know how to feel about || Harry || being Venom but I'm not super opposed to it, I'm very suspicious of Osborn though since I don't think we've seen anything about a Green Goblin in the previous games
I guess he's a good guy in this universe...?
at this point who hasn't been Venom
actually, we did see his helmet in the previous game
I don't remember that
twice I've read actually really good comics where Gwen was Venom
me, I wanna!
It's hidden as a little easter egg when you go snooping around as MJ in his apartment
Weird, I guess he dropped the villain alter ego?
it makes me think that venom is the "villain" in the first part, and green goblin is going to be the big bad at the end
Or maybe it's just an easter egg and nothing more
it's a prototype helmet

shouldn't this game be called Spider-Men since there's two Spider-Mans
Well there's definitely stuff I'm on the fence about but I'm still relatively open to see how the story is gonna play out, I'm down for Kraven getting some love in media and hopefully a faithful-ish adaptation of Last Hunt
mr negative's in the trailer too looking john wicky
Mr Negative
i hope Big Wheel is in this game
otherwise it's an instant 0/4 from me
Considering he looks kinda unkempt and in orange clothing I'm willing to bet he's been in prison and hasn't really been grooming himself
If only Mr. Negative used our special Manechat 20% off code for today's sponsor Manscaped
I was going to say "unlike all those immaculately groomed prison inmates"
but then I remembered how many supervillains canonically have extremely cushy prison lives
yeah also in real life
Al Capone had a very cushy prison life
is Al Capone like an irl supervillain
street-level heroes in general have a lot of villains who could arrange that
depending on how exactly one defines a "supervillain", there've been a lot of irl ones, and he might count
Kinda the reason why so many supervillains and criminals are still a thing in these contexts is because whenever they go to prison they're usually (usually) powerful and corrupt enough to basically be a time-out punishment and if they're mentally unstable then they're pretty much just kept on a cage and not really being given any serious treatment and probably just abused by guards and what not, or just ignored entirely
we've certainly had lots of charismatic celebrity criminals
Spider-Man Noir vs Al Capone
i forgot Capone got jail time for tax evasion and not the other things
I don't think Spiderman Noir would have many issues with al capone considering that Peter doesn't really have that many problems with just shooting his problems in the face
granted, the real life criminal kingpins usually don't end up kickboxing a superhuman in spandex to defend their underworld empire
not with that attitude
hopefully we can change that someday
has organized crime ever been taken down by a vigilante irl?
I don't know nearly enough about that to really properly answer that question but I'm going to guess no
yeah I'm not aware of any
actually now that i think about it, does Spider-Man ever really have problems with the police like Batman does ?
I know vigilante justice has worked with some individual criminals before but organized crime and mafias being taken down even just temporarily by just the one dude? Extremely unlikely
Yes?
the only vigilantes I can think of with good PR are either a) in contexts like the wild west where vigilante justice was kinda the default anyway, or b) the folk heroes like Robin Hood and Ishikawa Goemon who weren't really "super" (if you ignore the later mythologizing)
He's a vigilante still, he's always had trouble with police
Eventually both Batman and Spiderman in some instances manage to get the police's trust and if you get some stories of them after years of being in the mask they even work with the police but still
Spider-Man and Batman have both had times when the police did and did not like them for various reasons
Having finished 2099 a little while ago whenever Peter and Miguel switch places in time and the cops are chasing Peter around in 2099 one of the things he comments is how at least that hasn't changed from where he comes from
I believe the default is for Batman to have a more contentious relationship with the police, except Gordon personally, but that's more because Batman is always the darker broodier character
Spider-Man is just really hard to see as a menace to society if you've ever interacted with him in person rather than swallow JJJ's propaganda
also basically all the cops in Gotham are corrupt
yeah, while Marvel New York cops are... however corrupt they need to be for Kingpin to work, but that depends what story arc we're in
and also because the police usually also have a bit of an insecurity problem with this guy in a furry costume making a mockery of them and making them look inept, which, they are, but they don't wanna admit that obviously
I prefer outclassed over inept
what was that guys name in Batman TAS
but yeah in these worlds no one's given cops the equipment they'd need to reliably take down superhuman criminals
(there are many superhero storylines in which this happens, but it's always temporary or in a separate continuity or whatever, because part of the superhero genre is being just like our world but with added special people)
this guy in a furry costume
shoot, when you put it like that...
a lot of superheroes are in furry costumes
don't forget the guys who straight-up get genetically or magically altered into anthro animals, no costume involved
Man-Bat, Lizard, Cheetah, etc
Man-Bat is very funny to me idk why
Yeah that's a better way to put it
Ok I have a theory who is Venom, and I am very very sure about it after this trailer.... || Will be Peter. Miles will need to try save his ass ||
To be fair, even when non-super villains are involved, the cops still are relatively totally outclassed by Batman, I do enjoy whenever they make Batman and the cops somewhat of a team, not fully working together but the cops knowing when to take advantage of an opportunity and doing whatever they can to solve the situation
that's an interesting theory
Only to immediately go like ''this doesn't mean we're not gonna arrest you tho!'' after the crime is done
Pretty sure they already all but confirmed it's Harry since we see Miles and Pete fighting Venom in promotional material and they kinda just outright said it during a presentation
which comes back to why did Bruce spend all that money on bat-gadgets instead of urban renewal
oh sadge
yeah and in the first game, harry is shown with the symbiote
(Nire knows this but for everyone else: at least in modern comics Bruce usually is also investing in urban renewal)
and then Batman White Knight addresses that question by forcing Batman to share his tech with local law enforcement
Idk inside me still feels like they bating us
yeah White Knight was one of the separate continuities I was thinking of when I said that earlier
like they wanna do stuff different
Also I do wonder if spiderverse made them change stuff on miles
not that need
And yeah I don't know exactly when it happened but for most of the time by now Bruce focuses both on fighting crime directly and trying the best he can to use his power and money to indirectly and gradually make gotham a better place
the ui when you play as miles is definitely inspired by spider verse
which almost always ends up being an eternal battle and he never seems to make that much of a change if you consider Batman's history as a character as a whole
I wish some stories did show how Bruce has impacted the city since he started being Batman and seeing the city at least become a little better
also wtf, they changed mary jane?
my first thought there is of Kingdom Come, though you could easily argue that doesn't count
well the overwhelming popularity of Spiderverse is inevitably going to have some effects on the main comic counterpart of these characters which I can't say is something I'm super fond of, except for Miles because Miles before had been a pretty boring and underwhelming character and the movies really helped out
I want more Peni Parker stuff
Yeah I'm not happy at all with MJ's change
her universe is awesome and needs more content
eh? Miles was great in his original Ultimate Spider-Man run (granted many of the later comics were meh, but that happens to everyone)
I do really like Miles on the game
Well a lot of these different Spidermen don't really get their own comics to shine that much, Miles has been getting more popular, I don't know if Ghost Spider's comic is still ongoing but I always heard that it struggled with sales and staying afloat, and others like Noir, Peni, India have pretty little content and the main stuff was always the Edge of the Spiderverse stuff
And Shattered Dimensions which is still the best and arguably what started this whole Spiderverse craze
Ghost Spider will for sure get more content
I haven't started 2099's second and third volume but I kept reading that it involves even more time and even dimension hopping which is kind of underwhelming because it feels like they don't want Miguel to shine on his own and rather share the spotlight with Peter and the main universe superheroes... I guess that's why so many people say that the 1992 run is still the best 2099 content out there
tbh i mainly want them to use Web Weaver spiderman in a game already lol
even if its just a costume in the new game
Well I've always heard the same being repeated for a while even before ITSV that Miles was always kind of bland and after the Spiderverse movies and even the PS games everybody started talking about how much better Miles is than in the comics and how they did his character so much better
Web Weaver is one of my all time favorite spiderman based characters
Besides gwen
The Spiderverse movies even did the relationship between Miles and Gwen a lot better, that's something I remember seeing when I looked over the comic event a while ago now after the first movie I think, and not only was their relationship a lot more forced in that but there was also this weird age gap between them with Gwen being pretty much college aged and Miles still being in school, maybe he was a bit older by the time Spiderverse happened but he'd still be hovering around 15
The movies do the whole relationship a lot better and they don't overplay it too much, feels very natural
We all know there's a reason why Silk isn't around
Too many Peters
that randomly reminded me how in the web weaver universe, gwen is actually just straight up Morbius lol
yessir
I still very much do not like superhero outfits, especially a Spiderman outfit, that has any part of the body uncovered especially the face or hair for whatever reason
but it works for Silk, I don't know why
It just works
oh god I accidentally did a Jojo reference
oh yeah Silk in the Web Weaver universe is a guy
yeah I think we're talking about entirely different comic arcs
the comic event called "Spider-Verse" was certainly mid
I'm talking about Miles' comics as a whole, although it's less about me and more about the general opinion surrounding him as a character, I did read a bit of him way back but it's been a while and even back then I personally wasn't interested in him and I'm still relatively uninterested in Miles even to this day
my impression is that he hasn't had an interesting solo run since USM, so that's probably why you heard what you did
maybe it's less about his comics being mid and more about the movies doing his character better but I'm probably not the one to argue that point since I'm not savvy on him
maybe, although I did hear people say he works better as a sidekick to Peter/whenever he shares the spotlight with Peter which is something I can probably see since I do enjoy him and Peter working together
his original USM run and the Spider-Verse movies are both excellent versions of the character, either being "better" would be mostly a personal preference thing
especially since the whole emotional arc with Prowler is very similar in both
the biggest differences are mostly due to one being a long-running comic with an established continuity and the other being a single original movie
for example the USM comic went into much more detail about his home and school situation (iirc the opening chapter is him getting into his first choice high school... by lottery, which touches on all sorts of rule 2 stuff), and his early meetings with Peter's friends and family were a lot more complicated and emotional on all sides

ok, now we know what Nire's drawing next
lol nah I don't know much about Silk other than what immediately happened after Superior
I'm more a fan of Mayday
who I'll probably end up drawing once I read through her comics
also fair
I actually already did some sketches of Miguel genderswapped
(I did read Silk's one solo comic run, it started out really good but didn't stick the ending)
seems to be a thing with most of these alternative Spiderman versions unfortunately
it's common with a lot of comics, and stories, in general
all serialized fiction tends to have word of mouth correlate with good starts
Especially if there's more than one writer
I'm actually surprised at how much 2099 managed to feel pretty much like one big one shot comic
I feel like it didn't have that specific problem thanks to not having so many writers putting their hands on it
I might check out Silk's solo comic if the good portions are relatively short and easy to get through
I know a lot of people really really like her and wanna see her getting more attention
yeah, iirc the whole thing is like a dozen issues, you can read it in a sitting
I would be if I was still reading comics
nope
some media are phases for me, I haven't touched ponyfics or comics in over a year now
(unless you count the Twilight Princess manga I guess)
shows/movies and games rarely hit zero, but the ratio changes, e.g. I've definitely been gaming a lot more than usual the last few months
dang
did you decide to not read any more or are you just not into comics right now and you're just doing other stuff?
mostly the latter, hobby interest levels aren't exactly a conscious decision
I wouldn't hold my breath on it coming back though
ahhh I though something happened or you decided to abandon comics entirely
nah nothing that dramatic lol
Well if you're ever feeling like doing it again I'll just let you know that the first volume (1992-1996) is only like 42 issues long and recently it has been all super conveniently shoved into an ''Omnibus'' release with all of Miguel's stories from the start to the end in 1996, I think the next Omnibus releases will have vol 2, spiderverse and probably also vol 3 since vol 2 and 3 are even shorter than vol 1
it's also newly colored which is much better than the original in my opinion
Zoom pranked him so hard he couldn't bear to read comics anymore
just thought I'd let you know so you can keep it in mind if you ever feel like it later down the line since it's pretty short
I finally sat down to watch this.
the footnotes!
They did consult a lawyer
Moon is apparently a lawyer
YouTube
If you or a loved one have been diagnosed with MindlessYouTubeComa, you may be entitled to wholesome contemplation!
Hi, I'm Moony. During the day, I am an attorney who works on cases involving victims of domestic violence, victims of human trafficking, and refugees.
After long, grueling days, I would often watch video-essays and relax, but ...
although not one in ip law
Makes sense
This part is probably the important point Moon tries to make
ironically for a person who suggests "dolphin didn't read", I guess he also didn't read the part that dolphin specifies that they have consulted to a lawyer
Yeah. I doubt nintendo will do anything. As they stated they have had 15-20 years+ to actually do something
Plus Nintendo would not really gain anything from this.
Oh they will if they are absolutely sure they can win
The whole legal base of emulation was just "court decision"
If they win the case, they make another "court decision"
What Moon is suggesting is pretty scary; he is suggesting that 1. Nintendo has a legally respectable reasoning, which means they actually have a high chance winning thi, 2. Nintendo apparently has a willing to go for a legal dispute if needed, 3. Valve will be very unlikely to help Dolphin in this case, rather they'd help Nintendo and 4. Having a legal court decision saying "some part of emulation may be considered illegal" can be critical
Whether you respect his opinion or Dolphin's stance is your own decision
Again. Nintendo did nothing for years until they tried to go onto steam.
That doesn't mean they are safe.
Will see but i doubt Nintendo wants to spend the legal resources required on this.
Not only would this be massive bad pr it ultimately would just make dolphin/emulators like rom distribution and they get to play wack a mole with it.
I think that point 3 is kind of dumb, from what I read
I think valve keeping it off steam was ultimately a good thing
Valve will share what they have if compelled to do so in discovery by either party is my guess
^
Which is helping neither side, it's just what's legally required
To add on.*. The recent study of the whole 87% of classic games are no longer able to be obtained legally or very easily would not help nintendos public image at all going into such a lawsuit
I mean I think they will go to war over a fucking penny
Optics don't matter, didn't they destroy that bowser dude life?
he also profited of piracy
Too many Nintendo fans can see no wrong for them to care
which is a lot easier to argue in court against compared to this
Yeah but I am just saying optics don't matter
I am sorry I don't care what you did to the corporation, it will never look good in my eyes for them to destroy your life forever
you wont get argument from me here
he should have definitly been punished. But not THAT harshly
Also all the fan projects they c&d
That also looks awful
It looking good just isn't a factor for Nintendo
Especially when it comes to protecting their IPs
No, the point is not that Valve is going to choose a side, it's that they would rather choose Nintendo's side if they have to choose one
It was Valve who first asked Nintendo anyway

So good
I believe this video came out (and I watched it) before Dolphin's longer lawyer-informed response post
The comment was after the response post
oh I see what you mean now
well, he did say "skimmed" and that he'll do a proper response later
and iirc Dolphin's more recent post doesn't mention the interesting footnote at all so there is that
I think the proper response he said is the community post, but he still thinks that they didn't consult a lawyer so that's that
But most of his points should be valid
yeah I think we're saying the same thing
the fact that multiple professional lawyers are coming away from this with seemingly opposite conclusions just emphasizes how meaningless it is to speculate about gray areas of unsettled law
Yeah the conclusion should be "we really don't know"
Also I accidentally deleted a message lol
which is what Moon's video actually concludes after all
It is inspired by majoras mask alot ye
Overall I feel like Nintendo probably have some legally respectable reasonings, but also think they won't push too hard if Dolphin doesn't try to go hard
Problem is Dolphin seems to be a bit overly confident about their position
there's a good argument that Dolphin is "not primarily designed for circumventing protection", and also a good argument that the "reverse engineering exemption" isn't as strong as we want to think or even applies to keys, and so on, and so forth
yeah I think Nintendo's aware of how shaky all sides are and that's why their letter was so carefully worded with an argument that probably bypasses the 1201(f) exemption and just a letter instead of any genuine legal action
it is our interpetation that removing the Wii keys would not change whether the exemption in 17 U.S.C. § 1201(f) applies to us or not.
Moon's recent comment is basically correct that this post just kind of assumes that (f) covers keys, when it's very easy to read it as (and personally I'd guess was originally intended as) only covering personal use of them during development but not including them in the final commercial product

x-posting from the FFXIV thread because I had a similar moment earlier
Yeah.did you see the gameplay reveal a few days ago? It looks good.
for a decade old this game can have some stunning moments
something something art style
no, I generally don't pay attention to trailers
CS2 and Ratchet & Clank for PC are the only game trailers I've watched this year so far 😛
The PC version of the crew beta is only reaching 10 FPS
but they are releasing a patch soon.
yeah, I've seen someone else on a server having performance issues and crashes despite having a beefy PC
so I guess I'm not losing out in the end, since I only have a PC
I’m playing it on console. But it’s really good handling is so much better than the last game.
I've never played a Crew game
I did watch Accursed Farms' video on the first game though
my favorite place of the game ive seen so far is the purple caves in gyr abania. not only bc aesthetics but bc it has monk lore
I enjoyed the first game
"Your car is a little banged up, but it's nothing serious."
it'll wipe right off
you can choose to clean your car without repairing it, cleaning makes sponsors happier
yeah but i find it funny the idea of cleaning your car to repair it
following the trends of every other game I've ever played
the one part of Sable I don't understand yet is the fishing minigame

you WHAT
I remember mastering fishing in Kirby and the Forgotten Land.
I remember unironically enjoying fishing in Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and most recently Sonic Frontiers
i love fishing minigames
games basically instantly become 10/10 if they have a fishing minigame
I forgot TP had a fishing rod as soon as I left the tutorial
then you were all sad I didn't know I was supposed to use it on Ganon
ye
I love that you say ''I was supposed to use it on Ganon'' as opposed to ''most people like to use it on Ganon'' implying that the fishing rod is the intended way to fight him
the real reason the manga isn't canon is that manga Link never used his fishing rod in combat
I feel like Cap would appreciate all these baby worms
aww babies
I haven't tried Minecraft fishing in a long time
I remember when there was only 1 kind of fish
now you can even fish Call of Duty!
yep, classic nintendo consoles
Cat is my favorite retro console. What games do you have for Cat?
just Meow unfortunately, have always struggled in finding games for that one
oh i love her, no gaming hardware could compare to Astra 💜
don't imagine most gaming hardware could render her either, fur is hard to simulate
oh man PS1
legit one of the best console designs
i meant aesthetics wise
yes !
I've had a PS One
not sure if my brother/parents had a model before the PS One, but it was my first console and I remember playing it way after the PS2 came out
(between 2004 and 2007)
games I've played aren't necessarily that well known (or that great), I've spent a bunch of time on Crash Team Racing, Gran Turismo 1 or 2 (forgot which one), Spyro (not sure which one either), Street Skater 2, Grudge Warriors
I replayed Street Skater 2 last month and it's quite good, despite being a carbon copy of THPS. Some creative level design, lots of secrets and shortcuts, and I have a soft spot for downhill-style levels for some reason
there are quite a bit of childhood games I've replayed in emulation recently, usually I ended up enjoying it and playing the full game
(like Driver – I actually finished the tutorial here, unlike when I was a kid)
I got the ps one and the gameshark attachment that plugs into the back for epic hacking
did you have the screen so you could play it in the car
haha, I did have third-party memory cards for the PS2 (larger size) but never had much in the way of hacking devices
though nowadays, there are probably more emulated games I run with at least one cheat active than games I don't do that in ("cheat" means any memory manipulation, so a 60 FPS hack counts as a cheat)
here's one of the worlds in Cavern of Dreams, my #n64 style 3d platformer - Prismic Palace! it's a very vertical level... i wonder how deep it goes? #screenshotsaturday #gamedev #indiedev

Spyro vibes
Very much so. I thought of Magma Cone mixed with Crystal Glacier's aesthetic.
Magma Cone's entire latter half is a steep vertical climb like this one.
eyetwitches at a gigantic dumbass at work (well, customer)
That's an awesome idea.
Man, I'm really enjoying NieR so far!
wife in Dark Souls, 50 faith build, NG+:
frees Lautrec
goes to Firelink
Sunlight Spear
Lautrec loses half HP and goes flying off the edge
fuck that guy.
''Luigi you can't just defy the laws of physics and ride a turnip into the sunset''
''lol. lmao.''
oh that's a reference to the Super Mario Bros 2 level where you have to sit on an egg that Birdo spits across the ocean
[Pictured above: the climactic death of Commander Shepard at the hands of the Reaper commander Harbinger, circa 2186]
fweeeee
I just finished MGS Ground Zeroes
it feels so weird playing a MGS game where the controls aren't clunky
TPP is arguably better, in TPP a lot of Snake's moves are very different
Ground Zeroes feels more tight than TPP, Snake doesn't move as fast so it makes controlling him feel like it needs very deliberate thinking meanwhile TPP is just full on action fantasy
I've always weirdly liked Ground Zeroes over TPP myself but of course Ground Zeroes isn't even technically a game and is more like a demo
wait what
Ground Zeroes is definitely a pretty neat experience. I prefer Phantom Pain, I'd say; it's a slightly different experience when you factor everything in, but I like most of the content, and there's more of it.
You're definitely not the first person that I've heard say they prefer GZ, though, and I can see why. In a number of ways it feels more like a traditional Metal Gear structure.
Not a lot of gadgets, can't call in for resources, gotta procure most stuff on site, pretty tough enemy placements and security and you're actually infiltrating an enemy base with limited space
Definitely feels like a traditional MGS experience
Japan, home of Fortnite
Also in the same store: Kingdom Hearts, Kirby, Apex Legends, PUBG
Among those I'd say...Apex is the biggest there
Well Fortnite had the biggest display. Apex had a sticker
Ubisoft closes your account if you haven’t logged in for some time.
You will lose all your games purchased forever.
This is what Ubisoft has recently just decided to do to the gamers that haven't been playing their games for a while, this is probably the worst decision that I've seen a gaming company ever make, so I made it into a meme format h...
in short: Ubisoft are going to delete your account with all the games and purchases if you won't log for too long
That was true ten years ago
ok but what are they planning to gain from this?
You buy the games again and they spend less on servers
all I see are a loss in customers
probably also done to get rid of all those lost/unused/inactive accounts, but honestly there should be a better way to do that if that's what they wanted to do, this just seems mean spirited and clearly intended to just make people lose their games and have to regain all that again
I hope most people, in the case that they lose their accounts, don't actually make another one or try to get it back at all, it's money down the drain at that point but honestly I could never live with myself re-purchasing all the games in my library again if I actively used the service
It does seem shortsighted
I would bet someone at some point just didn't think very hard about there being paid content tied to the accounts they are cleaning up
if there isn't some ulterior motive then this is simply an extremely stupid decision that anyone with any amount of foresight would immediately shut down at the mention of
Lawyers and accountants tend to both be big on cleaning up data you don't need any more.
I'm honestly waiting for the day Ubisoft goes under at this point
they seem desperate, at least this seems like a desperate quick move to get rid of as much stuff on their serves so they can save up money but I could be wrong
any day now.... any day now....
Ubisoft is 20,000+ people split between 45+ companies, which is an excellent way for something important to be missed.
I can't imagine such a huge decision would be taken lightly or not reviewed thoroughly, but then again...
If that was the case I can imagine whoever made the decision would be in huge trouble if they decided to backpedal because it was made in a rush or something
It's only a huge decision if the people who made it thought it was
If they didn't then they probably wouldn't go to get it reviewed unless there are very robust processes forcing it to happen anyway
I think there's a significant risk of potential huge losses of customers or users of the service that even to incompetent people it'd seem like something to carefully think about
It's also not entirely clear to me what "inactive" means or when this policy comes from
Is this a fifteen year old decision that has only now actually taken effect? Probably not but I don't know.
I guess all that's left to do now is sit back and watch the whole thing unfold and see what happens

My guess is that they will backtrack and apologise
In which case I will further believe my oversight theory
But I suspect it'll take them a good while to untangle enough to do so
I sure hope they will, even if we're talking about only getting rid of accounts that have yeeeeears of inactivity it's still an iffy decision
at this point I would not be surprised really
a lot of people have been talking about potential suing if they do decide to go through with this permanently but I dunno how much legal ground there is for suing over this
also wonder who would even want to go through the hassle to do that
Almost certainly none whatsoever
I would assume (without having read it) that this exact thing is and has always been in the ToS
to be fair people did mention that those things usually tend to not be a be all end all in court
"we will close inactive accounts" is pretty standard
but still, we're talking a lot of money and time regardless
Especially with warnings in advance
(and, depending on what "inactive" means, perhaps content that you demonstrably don't care about)
Feels like a hard sell
If anything, the most likely thing that would happen in the case of people being upset and this going through, and honestly wouldn't be that bad at all, is for some sort of regulations surrounding these digital sales and preventing these cases from happening, don't know if that's a thing now but considering they're doing this I'm going to assume no
It is not, they are all licenses that can be rescinded at any time for any reason.
digital is already pretty iffy as it is since you're basically ''renting'' something for as long as your account exists or the servers exist, no way to play or truly own it yourself withouth going through the service first and if it goes down then bye bye to your library
If "inactive" is six months there might be a more compelling argument to be had
Having skimmed the terms I saw nothing about inactivity, just a general note that your account "may be terminated or suspended at any time, without notice, for any reason"
(also, binding arbitration, so they cannot be sued anyway)
i finally finished NieR Replicant
Ending E?
Ending E
