in my personal experience, RetroArch works far more reliably than anything else, including the emulators RetroArch itself is wrapping (I've used just Dolphin before)

I expect some jank, but it should run without needing bleeding edge tech to compensate for the devs work.

for "hardcore" point-and-click adventure games, probably not, you usually want screenshots and lots of text for those and you have no idea when you'll need them later

the modern ones like Quern already often have an in-game "journal" feature for manging a set of screenshots with text attached (I had 5-10 at a time for much of my playthrough)

IME it's sufficiently buggy to the point of being unplayable. Got a refund for it. That said, if it did work it was pretty clear to see that it wasn't anything remarkable. Average at best.

Fair enough. When I tried Redfall I wasn't able to do the gameplay loop, mostly just go through the setup. Because I couldn't see objects such as:

1. Doors. Nonexistent but I couldn't go through them.
2. Weapons. I couldn't pick them up. Again, nonexistent.

But Peach could.

So that was special.

Oh, also, environmental hazards. Those didn't render either.

For back 4 blood, for an indie title, it put out a competent game, that was essentially just Left 4 Dead.
Which is pretty good but dated as a concept
But it feels like a true attempt from a studio to put out a good game.

Redfall I think it's much worse.
It feels like they took Arcane, and made them do something so out of their wheelhouse that none cared to do it well, and didn't even let them innovate on the genre.
I don't know who decided on what to do, but either the original idea was so different from the final product because of several compromises or it makes no sense why they'd get Arcane to make this

Like, if you like it, you really like it, it's not badly made, but the loop is definitely different from previous Arcane games and there is a solid contingent of people who didn't like the final result

Also it's the kind of games that would play well for reviewers, because it has a lot of original elements to it

As a sidenote, I do not think that redfall deserves to be the worst steam rated game of all time, that's pretty insane, it's probably like a 2/10 with the bugs and a 4-5/10 without from what I'm gathering
Maybe a bit more depending on what the bugs are

Like, the gameplay loop is in part busted because the game seem to not spawn many enemies at all with huge stretch of gameplay with fucking none, if that's a bug of course that problem would go away.

Same for enemy variety, there are various types of vampires but reportedly the game spawn them so rarely, that most of the time you just fight basic vampires.
If that's a bug of course that'd mean that solving it would make the game better

It's hard to tell what's a bug and what's intended, it does feel busted tho

Alost with B4B. It definitely was a good attempt at l4d successor. The problem was they tried to market it as a live service.

Redfall just tells me bethesda should just not make multiplayer games.

Redfall's lack of enemies has to be a bug, because a few abilities are designed to deal with swarms.
The vampires AI is pretty bugged too, it can't path around objects and gets stuck if you put anything between you and the vampire.

The biggest problem is there's a lot of heavy hitters coming out in the next few months, so it will be forgotten by the time the fixes come in.

anyway, I tested the Ultra+ mod for it (and uploaded it to PCGamingWiki as Race Department requires a log in to download anything)

the Linux port of Dirt Rally is weird, it comes from that era where Feral ported a lot of games natively. These didn't always age well, and in the case of Dirt Rally, I had to compile a small C library and preload it to get the game to start - otherwise, it crashes on start on recent Intel CPUs

(Dirt Rally 2.0 has no such port but it runs OK via Proton)

regarding Fedora itself, it's pretty stable despite having reasonably up-to-date software. It's the best distro I've used over the years overall (it's also the one I spent the most time on :P). I'd recommend it to any non-novice user; if you are looking for a first-time Linux user distro (especially if not tech-savvy), Ubuntu LTS or maybe Linux Mint still fits the bill better
