True, forgot about them.
May I present our stand-up acrade machine, a Legends Ultimate Arcade. I can safely say this is a blast to play and use, even if you're not interested in any of the 300 games that come with it.
It's a series of console games released for the Genesis if I recall correctly.
It features both Arcade and Console titles.
And yes, you can bring your own games to the party, either via USB or streaming.

To be fair, the previous time they let a big name or two play around with Jedi without any constraints regarding lore or direction, it resulted in the Sequel trilogy and made rather a lot of people very upset. It's probably a good thing they are being more cautious with their use now.

fair enough
They should lose copyright on it
?
Just like how the Library of Alexandria in some forms forcibly took your book away, copied it, gave you the copy and kept the original
i dont think when a movie gets put in the National Film Registry the people lose their copyright so idk why it would be different here
It would be fun if that happened though
i dont understand how but ok
Wait a minute
Isn't the mario theme like a sample of another song?

How... How does this work? Shouldn't the original extended song get the credit?
?
Idk about sampled, but it did take inspiration from another song
But then again, that song was released like, a year before mario
The first bar after the introduction to the Ground Theme shares a melody with a bar from T-Square's "Sister Marian,"[6] which predates the original release date of Super Mario Bros. by over a year.
The above text is from the Super Mario Wiki and is available under a Creative Commons license. Attribution must be provided through a list of authors or a link back to the original article. Source: https://www.mariowiki.com/Ground_Theme_(Super_Mario_Bros.)
Most songs from the original mario we know are sampled
I guess it's distinct enough to legally be considered its own thing but still
Well once again, idk if "sampled" is the right word
if it wasn't legally distinct enough it most likely wouldn't be the Mario theme anymore lmao
I don't know about that, I wouldn't know if it'd have gotten a pass at the time, in any case I'm not saying it's a plagiarism or not legal
I'm just saying I wondered if the original track should've gotten credit instead
I'll just stick with the idea that it has lots of inspiration from other songs
But sampling isn't my word of choice
The source of the famous Super Mario Bros. Underworld Theme now in high audio quality here in YouTube.

Ta...
They aren't exactly the same notes
They don't actually take the track from the original song but they pretty much copy it entirely, not the entire song but just that bit, maybe it's not in a technical sense since a sample is like using a texture library where you take it and remix it
If they took the track from the original song it would totally be illegal lol
ooo, schedule for sgdq https://gamesdonequick.com/schedule/43
let's see here
that elder scrolls anthology sounds really cool if its anything like the fallout anthology (which is my favorite gdq run of all time that i still rewatch sometimes)
Link Between Worlds and Maniac Mansion speedruns sound fun
on the silly side me n my cousin played a lot of the 102 dalmatians game as kids so seein it speedrun sound like the ideal amount of fun
Man, May is kinda early for GDQ, huh
mhmm
ooo a darkest dungeon speedrun. curious

Someone at the Xbox team is probably wishing they could do a handheld now.
While the implication seems software only, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Microsoft try to screw Valve even with their odd relationship from ex-Microsoft employees.
Also can’t wait for Xbox “Windows 11 Recommended” suggestions.

Truly awesome weapons
Yes I know.
Doesn’t mean anything to Microsoft, if they see a competitor… its a competitor.
Specially if it hurts them. (SteamOS could mark the beginning of a new gaming operating system, and perhaps expand from there.)

Only the most dank
25 hours... for $70?
25 hour for single and they want 18498749812739 hours in multiplayer, of course
I mean, price hike notwithstanding, 25 hours for a full priced single player campaign is if anything, a bit longer than I'd like
Not counting the multiplayer at all because I don't stick around for FPS multiplayer modes
Titanfall 2 is very well regarded for its single player campaign at the time and that is what...maybe 15 hours if you stretch it
Probably less
Maybe I'm too used to longer RPGs
I do resent the idea that a game has to be longer for it to be worth it.
Assassins Creed Odyssey is like, hundreds of hours but it's very shit compared to God Of War or Doom 2016
Doom 2016 and Eternal are about 30 hours ime
for main campaign i mean
Eternal's expansions are like
5-10 hours each
er
maybe not that long
wtf
My playtime is around 19 hours and I did beat it once and did very minor side stuff
maybe im misremembering
So I'd say 30 is definitely waaay above the average player experience
I would say that Doom selling point was the campaign, there was a multiplayer mode but I never heard people praising it as much as the campaign
everyone complained about the multiplayer and then when id made Battlemode for Eternal everyone complained again so idk what people want lmao
There are different people who want different things
but yeah i have no idea where I got 30 hours from
If you release a popular game, everything will be wanted
Safe to say the multiplayer wasn't why people liked it then.
If Doom 2016 is fine with a 15-20 hours campaign, assuming this other FPS campaign is very good, it'd be fine...
That's a lot of IFs
But the lenght isn't the problem
If anything as I said, 25 sounds a bit long, I feel like it could overstay its welcome, but we'll see
At this point in my life, I reached the same point with games I reached a while ago with anime.
I want endings
Your stuff might be great but please give me narrative conclusions to your goddamn stories
The multiplayer feels so out of place for me in Doom Eternal, it's probably dead and I have no interest in it
Eternal was around 20 something hours for me doing the main base campaign collecting everything

We're getting actual dungeons
Like underground cave dungeons
Noice
Oh I read that as gleecock

This guy? https://zeldawiki.wiki/wiki/Gleeok
yes
That's just a hydra!
oh shit i didn't know he was in Phantom Hourglass
Oh I went on FB and the first thing I see is TotK's Ganondorf
Maybe they shouldn't make the default image for it a three-headed dragon when they call it a two headed dragon in the title.
So I guess I missed that
He also appeared in the Minish Cap
apparently Ganondorf hasn't appeared in a mainline Zelda since Twilight Princess
He's a rock filled with glee
true

Yep
And I agree, it's a great campaign
I mean probably for me, I wouldn't want to buy it full priced for 6 hours of story
If I had no interest in the multiplayer at least
like me
Played it heavily discounted a few years later, i was very happy with my time in it
exactly
seems like EA finally saw writing on the wall where industry is headed and seems to be focusing on single player stuff again
then again i would too after having anthem fail as hard as it did
I think I got anthem for like $1 and I still regret it
i remember some of my high school friends getting really excited for Anthem and then like a week after it came out i never heard about it again
yeah it was bad
and to me when anthem failed showed the beginning of the end for the "golden age" of live service games
just as battlefront 2 EA was the end of the era of lootboxes in mainstream games
One of my friends knows how bad anthem is but insisted on buying it for a dollar and playing it. Played for several hours. I then asked him how it was and he said it was awful
I remember when the internet and also me as a kid were excited for Evolve
Remember that game?
of course you don't
over $100 of day one dlc
i remember
I remember evolve
Big fan of asymmetrical multiplayer, at least on paper, might not have been the big hit they hoped but it was an interesting experiment
''From the creators of L4D!!!''
except they're not
The game was okay, the problem is that the quality of the match heavily depended if the player playing the creature was good at it or not
B4B was doomed to fail when they didnt allow mods and went live service model
The quality of the match depended heavily on whether or not the creature was good and also communication with your team and coordination
and if you pair that with not a whole lot of content after a while...
That's kinda every multiplayer game that tries to be in any way strategi tho
it didnt help some of the later monsters were completely broken
looking at you wraith
Like, you could say the same for CS:GO or Valorant but those are huge
I guess so, although this one almost requires it because the creature is OP
I think in CSGO and Valorant you can be good individually but in Evolve you needed to be good as a team
I mean it was also just a less fun version of left 4 dead
CSGO is purely skill
Communication is still pretty much required to win tho
Yeah even on a game as chaotic as TF2 good communication and good coordination is essential too
You can't guard all points at the same time, even if you are very good
You can if you cheat
So that you can guard all the points at the same time, duh

Smh
to be fair this is subjective but, I can't deny that for a large amount of people B4B's design and world/characters just wasn't as appealing
lots of weird design decisions, I remember playing the beta and one of the things that upset me the most was the inability to just grab weapons on the field, you have to buy them with coins you get by killing infected, also the weird loot thing where you can get an ultra super deluxe rare AK47
✨ !!!
Back 4 Blood doesn't have Coach 0/10
Nor any character with that amount of charm either
It also doesn't have Jerma
I mean Ellis
TRUE
but yeah I kinda wished B4B would've been the next big L4D type game, god knows we've wanted L4D3 for a while now and I hope Valve considers doing another L4D/TF2 for Source 2 now that they're doing that with CSGO
hell maybe even just port L4D2 and TF2 to Source 2, I'd be fine with even just that
If the player is small enough in The Binding of Isaac: Repentance, they can fall right through crawlspaces.
Yeah, it's a silly bug
it's not a bug Isaac is just so small he falls through the cracks in the floor
It's a bug because it can ruin your ruin with no warning
They should really fix it so you have a minimum size.
''it's not a bug it's a feature''
I feel like this happens a few times every year, especially when I'm paying more attention to gaming
something something hype culture
Advertising works on people because they're willing to get excited without evidence

crab
crab
I already think 15 hours campaign is fairly long to be fair, but maybe this is just my huge backlog talking
I love games with high production values that have strong 4-6 hour campaigns
4-6 is on the short side for me, I think I am more comfortable with at least a 10 hours personally, but yeah..
Especially when the story is 10 hours, but there are 80 hours of non engaging open world nonsense
If it's solid storytelling all the way through I'm happy with a longer story but that's not the norm nowdays
it is hard to argue with value for money
I think I had 25-30 hours for my first Witcher 2 run, and Steam says I have 130 hours in Witcher 3
granted W3 is probably the only "large open world" game I ever played to even a loose notion of completeness
(where "small open world" is stuff like A Short Hike or The Pathless)
but the vast majority of the time I also prefer those 5-10 hour focused experiences, whether it's a story thing or a gameplay thing or both
Yeah personally I don't like long games or games that drag on far too long, games like BOTW are an exception because they're as long as you want to make them
and then you have games like MGR which are like, 6 hours, 9 at most and it just feels way too short

somehow I have "31.5 hours" in MGR even though I never did a serious attempt at high ranks or high difficulties or all achivements or anything
I even felt Doom Eternal was a bit too long but to be fair I did collect every single thing in that game in my first run and I'm going to do it again since I lost that save file lol
wait when the hell did I do this
i love long games 😎
I... guess I was very in the zone that day

subconscious playthrough
I don't have MGR on Steam so I can't show my playtime but I do have over 100 hours on DMC5 and I have done multiple playthroughs there on almost all difficulties
right now I'm doing Eternal on hard, I think?
and I'm feeling it
steam play time's always a bit misleading anyway, especially for people like me who multitask a lot so it's counting lots of not-really-playing time
I know at least one game I accidentally left running overnight
before i got my new Switch i had about 230 hours on Doom Eternal
ah yeah last time I booted FighterZ I spent like 40 min just labbing and looking up character guide videos
only to get my ass kicked for the next like 20 min
sometimes i turn on Eternal just to play Horde mode
Oh I also have over 100 hours on botw
I finally got all the sets too
through totally legit means
Surprisingly enough I really like the Hero set I think it looks neat
which Hero set
To be fair, Witcher 3 has a LOT of quality questing
There is some nonsense in the mix but the balance is much better than most open world games
The open world exploration is not very engaging in on itself tho, like, unless I have a quest I wouldn't explore much, there are the annoying icons that tell you where something is before you get there to spoil the experience anyhow so no reason to actually trying to explore
theres hero of the wild, hero of time, hero of the wind
so which hero set is a good question
although my favourite sets in the game are Ocarina's, Twilight and my own set with a black Hylian hood, a green hylian armor and white pants
The set is literally called Hero set

cap of the hero, tunic of the hero, trousers of the hero
oh
oh yes
didnt know that was a thing
it's what you get from the 8 Bit Link amiibo
it is?
i like the Wild set better though
yes
i thought u get this from all shrines
no that's the Wild set
they all look same
I hope I get a fur suit set from scanning wolf link in totk
green
these three use the same type of tunic so they look very similar but they're not
I like the Hero set because I like how the bright orange works with the bright greens
...sure wish he wore pants though
the lack of pants makes me not like it
cant you just pair it with hylian trousers
also you can't dye it
You could, but then it's not the real Hero set
bask in the glory of pantless link
iirc you can't dye amiibo clothes
probably replied to me
what
Just wait for the new game and recall them back to their normal color
the Sky set isn't bad but man that hair just looks so weird
and then there's the best link design ever made
I just wish I could make it more green
the best link design is totk
I'm a pants fan
I actually like totk's link design better than botw
I was never a fan of the blue tunic
totk link is green, as he should be
i love it so much
it doesn't not look cool
just not my style
which is why I dyed my hylian armor green and my pants white, I like the more elaborate design with a lot more protection and belts and stuff going on
the cape 😩
I just don't like the colors
the cloak is really good..
Link face left challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)
it's too iconic to change I feel, I like the silly hat
Hyrule warriors has some of my favourite designs even though I don't enjoy that game
too iconic to change
except they did change Link's outfit in the most recent games lol
Yeah because all recent games have been directly linked to BOTW
it's probably the Zelda game with more content since it has that prequel and now a direct sequel
even Smash Bros Link was changed to reflect BotW
on a sidenote
what the fuck is the spiders name
the spider with one eye
GOHMA
it's name is Gohma
i wonder if he'll come back
aim for the eye of Gohma
no hes too scary for todays youth
Bless you
are you sure?
i always found him goofy
he was in Hyrule Warriors
was he a playable guy
oh he was in Link's Awakening too
i dont think so
playing some Kingpin multiplayer right now (there's a weekly game night)… does anyone remember that game? 😛
First I hear of it

========================================================================...
I'm not usually the type to be like ''wowza raytracing ultra 4k
'' but the reshade on RE5 is actually very appreciated
that game has that ugly piss filter that every shooter game had at the time
also I never realized just how much assets RE5 takes from RE4, down to the exact same animations and SFX
I kinda wish the modern RE games kept the laser sight aiming, I actually really like it and the laser sight in RE4R is incredible but only works on the Silver Ghost for some weird reason
more realistic laser sights in games when?
I remember when multiplayer games showed your laser sight dot to everyone, which made it meta to avoid looking at walls the enemy might be looking at
I don't really want realistic laser sights. I want fun laser sights
(or you toggled your laser sight instead)
the sniper on TF2 works similarly, if you ever look at a wall and see a red dot, don't pass through
it's actually a viable strategy to look at the opposite wall everytime you're about to go through a chokepoint or pass through a door
but yeah I'm very sad that the laser sight isn't a default in RE4R
not only is it not a default, you can only use it with one weapon
seriously....
I never bough the laser sight since I needed that space for other stuff, like the two scopes I did use
which is another bad thing they did with the laser sight
I appreciate they included it but it's not only something that you have to go out of your way to even obtain since most people will not upgrade and use the Silver Ghost, it's also a thing you have to actively give at least two slots in the inventory
Could've just added a toggle on the options to disable crosshair but give your weapon a laser sight instead, I would've liked that
Deus Ex laser sights do this thing where it removes random inaccuracy entirely and "predicts" where your shot would land
with the dot being more or less drunk depending on how much you moved recently
Yeah the laser sight in RE4R makes it so that your handgun is always perfectly accurate
Niiiiiiiice
DnD man got his hands on more power than expected. We're all doomed.
He's such a sweetheart tho
oh god, the matt Mercer Ganondorf cosplay has become canon
this one specifically
I've now completed every quest in Sunbreak currently minus the arena.
My Anomaly Research Rank is currently 220 which is max until title update 5. My Hunter Rank is 939 and my Master Rank is 574.
That's so stupid that that strat actually worked too be consistent.
Minecraft Dungeons, sacrificial 20k health to have protection, bag of souls and shadow surge. With a bone club with void strike and pain cycle.
Allowed very easy shadow form with two shadow pendants and a satchel of snacks.
Destroy enemy, profit souls most of the time or at a very small cost.
Get out of sight right away as you deal with dangerous mobs like geomancers.
Oh, and of course the armor had damage reduction and a chance at negation.
What the fuck sort of bundle is this?
Included items:
Mega Man Battle Network 2
Mega Man Battle Network 3 Blue
Mega Man Battle Network 3 White
Mega Man Battle Network 4 Red Sun
Mega Man Battle Network 4 Blue Moon
Mega Man Battle Network 5 Team Protoman
Mega Man Battle Network 5 Team Colonel
Mega Man Battle Network 6 Cybeast Gregar
Mega Man Battle Network 6 Cybeast Falzar```
It's sixty dollars. I didn't know there were that many games in the series
Note: The toy link features found in the original versions are not supported.
For some reason the bundles do not allow you to get one version of each game, despite the fact there are two separate volumes
No I was zero years old
i was -9 years old
my first Zelda was Zelda 1 even though i would have been -15
yes
the difference between age 2 and age 4 is pretty important in terms of being sentient enough to play games
lol
I might have toyed with an earlier one in one of those store displays or something, but my first full one was wind waker. Even though I was 9 when link to the past released
my first was ocarina of time
Same.
Someone is old

Because FB is like spying on everything at this point, it just gave me an ad for this
I'm kinda tempted, lol
when I turned 40 I got a shirt that said "I'm a man, I'm 40!" based on the famous Mike Gundy coaching rant
Lol
This on GBA was the first game I owned! It helped me learn how to read, lol
The first video game I played though was excitebike on my dad's nes, then Mario 1-3
I remember going with my dad to the used game store to buy Mario 3 on nes. I thought it had just came out or something lol
"There are three Marios??!"
I first played LttP and SMW on GBA
It’s all six games and their variants, as you can see.
I’ve been excited for this release since it was announced
there are more than 3 Marios !!!!
we had a snes that was actually a bootleg console named pegasus my dad got under a table from poland and it only had duck hunt. that's it. just duck hunt
Putting the sus in pegasus
But since I can't trade, I only want one of the variants

(and i NEVER GOT MY BELOVED DS. i had to learn how to emulate it and my laptop was shit at the time and it was hell). people actually buying consoles in any larger numbers is a thing of maybe last ten years
pc's still hold an overwhelming presence when it comes to gaming
sorry
This is a critical one-sided comparison mostly about art & cinematic direction. Observe and draw your own conclusions.
Recorded on NGC version (upscaled, 30 fps) for its original color saturation & lighting. Sequences are not necessarily in chronological order.
oh!
Crowbcat doing a video on RE4?
Soul is not quantifiable
what does this title even mean
Watch the video
This is a critical one-sided comparison mostly about art & cinematic direction. Observe and draw your own conclusions.
So far I definitely notice that RE4R's direction when it comes to its 'artstyle' and the overall cinematic direction is definitely a lot different, still has flair, but definitely chooses to be more '''''''''''''''realistic'''''''''''''' in many quotes because I hate people using that word so much
A lot of the ambient noise and music is very quiet or completely non existent this time around which had already been a 'problem' in RE2R and RE3R with a lot of the ambient music even save rooms being a lot quieter or more ''diluted'' than the original ones, and the areas definitely are visually different from the original ones of course thanks to the updated visuals and more accurate lighting
From the dislikes to like ratio I can already see this video receiving mixed opinions, I definitely wouldn't say RE4R is soulless by any means
Weird choice of video to make, RE4R is a fantastic game and I felt it was extremely faithful and showed a lot of love and appreciation for the original game
talk of a work of art "having soul" or not tends to be a proxy for "I don't know why I do/don't like it but don't want to admit that", which doesn't usually lead to insightful discussion
(I may or may not watch the video myself later, too much else to do)
Yeah no the video is insanely biased and the comments are just a bunch of people actively making stuff up to complain about
Huge miss from Crowbcat
People are acting like RE4R is just a soulless rushed cashgrab and I'm actively losing IQ points reading these comments
I want to say this is a prime example of people being blinded by nostalgia but I don't know since I grew up with RE4 and I also have huge nostalgia for that game
I mean, so do I, and many of the others here who bought the remake
it's popular on YouTube to write comments of the style "This is what games used to be about... now it's all just cashgrabs"
you're almost guaranteed to get lots of likes with little risk of backlash
so I can see YouTubers themselves starting to follow this
I can be guilty of it sometimes, I'd go as far as saying some people like old games even without the nostalgia. (Look at all the Doom fans that play classic Doom even though they were like -5 years old when it came out)
It's so bizarre how people seem to agree so much with that sentiment
Because it's just... not true, at all
mm-hmm, every site with user-created content has the same sensationalist biases as media outlets, which is why it's important not to use them as a barometer of "general opinion"
''Wow, this really puts into perspective how much devs cared about their games before... now it's all just unfinished rushed DLC shit''
Instant top comment, 20k likes, everyone going ''wow so true brother''

It's like living in a cartoon world
Absolutely
100% some of these people weren't even around at the time of some of these classic games and they act like they knew exactly what the times were like back then or how the industry was like
I bet if you watch them fester long enough they'll start defining "true gamers" by their facial bone structure somehow
the discourse around TLoU PC is pretty unhealthy in my book for instance, even if the problems are real
I'm thinking… "can you like… wait a few months and buy on sale? Chances are your backlog is pretty thicc already"
unless you are that unicorn with a 0-game backlog 🙂
nah that doesn't exist
to be fair with TLOU PC even Naughty Dog apologized for the state of the game, I feel like people being upset at the problems with that is valid
that was part of what Cal said
a discourse can be toxically negative (or positive) even when the "truth" is also negative (or positive)
I watched DF's live play of the game, the issues are pretty pronounced but it's something that will eventually be resolved, even if that means waiting for patches, third-party mods and… well, hardware getting better
I say this as someone who could play the game right now in good conditions, since my PC could bruteforce through it
It's always hard to discuss these topics since a lot of times the performance is so inconsistent
I remember even Elden Ring had performance issues at release but a lot of people also didn't experience significant issues if any at all
TLOU problems are far greater than Elden Rings.
port performance is always a
topic for me since I so rarely play the types of games that like to be graphically demanding, and even when I do I'm happy with whatever settings the game picks by default
getting >100 frames in DS and RE4 remakes is waaaaaay more than enough for me
(to be clear, my old laptop can't run the DS remake at all, regardless of graphics settings)
Of course, but it's also true that people who play TLOU will have varying degrees of issues with the performance so it's hard to really... quantify? these issues
PCs vary too much
I will say that despite knowing how toxic gamers can get I do agree with the overall strong reaction to TLOU's issues, I think it's unacceptable on this day and age to release a port in such a state
the issues were present even on top-end PCs, it's more that some people don't notice those issues happening
I don't think so, if you have an average PC Elden Ring is going to run decently.
You pretty much need a top tier PC to brute force TLOU, not even a 3080 can run the thing decently.
though we are now at a time where you can finally buy a PC that can power through Elden Ring at a locked 60 FPS
we only had to wait for 13900K + 4090 to be a thing 🙂
(12900K + 3090 – which was the best available when Elden Ring was released – couldn't do that)
A lot of my games aren’t graphically demanding but still perform badly.
Though they also aren’t ports.
The worst port I remember playing the most was DS1's port for PC which is infamously bad
I remember booting up MGS2 from GOG a bit but asides from super janky keyboard mapping the game actually works

Mlp game for $10 in bundle
I actually still can't believe how broken it is. And instead of fixing it they decided to remake the game in the ds3 engine, charge $40 for it, and shamefully stop selling the old one
And instead of giving the people who bought the original a copy of the remaster, they just gave us a discount lmao
Oh no it's back!

...oh boy
its great
oh they youth not knowing how torrenting works

But torrents are trivial
I do grant that the terminology for torrenting wasn’t intuitive to me when I first got into it
But you can condense the instructions to just a few simple steps
torrenting is a lot like federated chat
it's easy by any reasonable definition of difficulty, but it's a task that everyone expects to be trivial, and the introduction of any knowledge whatsoever immediately makes them assume they're dealing with something orders of magnitude worse than it really is

Nintendo at it again
For every nice thing they do they do like 2 or 3 bad ones
"The next day, Nintendo claimed 24 more videos from my channels," PointCrow said. "Most of them are modded content. A lot of them are Breath of the Wild, but not all of them are... they're striking down regular gameplay videos as well... The thing is, without even considering fair use, all of these videos are very clearly in line with Nintendo's own game content guidelines (opens in new tab) for online video and image sharing platforms."
Update: In a video posted Friday, PointCrow said that Nintendo had issued two copyright strikes against his channel over his Breath of the Wild multiplayer videos, "deliberately putting [his] channel in danger." When a YouTube account gets three copyright strikes, the account "along with any associated channels, is subject to termination," according to the YouTube terms of service (opens in new tab).
i dont understand how people are surprised that they are striking videos that can only be made on modded consoles or emulators
its nintendo ofc this is going to happen
its not an indie dev thats happy for the exposure
At this point nobody is surprised, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't be mad that it's still happening
Emulation is not illegal, it's the creation and distribution of roms that's illegal, Nintendo abusing the system like this even in cases where there's literally nothing wrong is just frustrating
If it was in Nintendo's power, they would make it so that nobody could ever upload gameplays of or stream their games at all, that's how psychotic they are with their properties
I think its fine if they dont want people to mod their games
these creators know that they are barking up the wrong tree when they upload these videos and then they surprised pikachu when this happens
They may not want people to mod their games but they can't stop it, just like they can't stop emulation, they can't just pretend like these things are black and white and mods and emulation is evil and that's the end of the discussion, plus again a bunch of times they just completely abuse the system like they did with this youtuber in specific and have done in the past indiscriminately, they're being extremely unreasonable and it's not the first time Nintendo has done this and won't be the last
Because fair use is practically non existent in Japan they can get away with this, which is why these youtubers should block these videos in Japan, that way they can't do anything about it
i believe its nintendo of america filling these claims
Allowing communities to do stuff like this with their games goes beyond simply being promotion for the game it also cultivates a healthy relationship with your community when you allow these things or even embrace them completely, Nintendo goes the complete opposite way and it's not surprising that there's a giant chasm between Nintendo and its consumerbase because of how unreasonable they can be
I agree that they are very old fashioned but in this case I think promoting modded content to thousands of people when you can only get said modded content on either an emulator or a modded switch it makes a ton of sense to have them removed
i mean the videos are giant ads that say "go grab a botw rom and this mod and have fun like us!!"
Except it really doesn't, this doesn't affect Nintendo at all just like all those events and tournaments they shut down doesn't affect them at all either, even when Nintendo releases shitty broken games they still are incredibly successful and profitable, them removing this type of content is the actual pettiest stuff they can do because it won't affect them at all
It's a stretch to say that these videos are promoting the idea of pirating Nintendo's games
I used to be the owner of a 30k member botw discord so I have an idea of how prevalent cemu and piracy is
You can legally emulate these games by ripping them from your own copy you bought from your Switch, and all people who do these types of content promote that, they will never and would never promote the idea of pirating roms of Nintendo games
Emulation is extremely prevalent especially when it comes to Nintendo, piracy is a completely different beast
you also have to remember for Nintendo
Emulation is not illegal
if there not the ones offering the emulation or the games they automatically assume people will use it illegally
its draconian yes but thats just how they are
You can legally emulate these games by ripping them from your own copy you bought from your Switch
I think this is a bad faith argument because 0.1% of people who emulate do this, for either cost or inconvenience
maybe bad faith isnt the term im looking for but
i dont think its a good argument
its not so much bad faith
Whether or not most people will do that is irrelevant, the point is that the videos don't promote piracy and will actively tell you to do that instead to support the content
its just yes thats the legal way to do it
but most people are just going to download a rom
its also impossible to do without breaking their terms of service
Even Nerrel who is one of the biggest advocators and defenders of emulation and videogame preservation will tell you to buy the games and take the rom you bought from your Switch rather than illegally pirating it, especially for games that recently came out like Metroid Dread who was already emulated like weeks after release and he still told his viewers to buy it first so that these games can still be profitable even if people end up emulating them for better performance or other reasons
In general the idea that these videos are being taken down on the argument that they promote piracy is ludicrous to me, they're taken down because Nintendo hates emulation and mods and anything to do with anything that isn't directly linked to buying their products, they have legal grounds to eliminate this content because fair use isn't a thing in Japan, but this doesn't mean that it's okay for them to do this, especially when it comes to maintaining a solid relationship with their community who has proven time and time again to still support them despite everything
i would have less problems with nintendo doing stuff like this if they offered a legal solution
problem is they rarely do and the ones we have are half assed
There's no legal solution to this, Nintendo would never allow mods in their games
Emulation is the only way to do this, and emulation is legal
oh i know that
i mean like emulating older games
some i understand you cant release cause of licensing
That's a different thing, recently they've been adding more games to their emulation package on switch, but it's nowhere near the catalogue you can get by emulating these games through piracy, because Nintendo does an outstanding shitty job at maintaining and preserving its own catalogue of games, especially older ones
But that starts getting into a different topic
Emulation is legal in some cases, but most people that emulate do it in an illegal way.
Because talking about preserving older games gets into actual piracy, because Nintendo isn't offering its consumers any choice, because for them if you pirate a game that they're not currently making available to you, you're an evil monster who deserves to rot in hell, despite them not offering you a legal way to enjoy that one game that they can totally just pick up from their dusty vault
Emulation is legal period, the thing that's illegal is illegally obtaining roms
Yeah, but most people that do it, break the law
Which is why Nintendo doesn't really have much of a case against the big emulators for their consoles, but they have repeatedly taken down rom sites
In any case discussing what most people do isn't really the point here at all, because we're talking about content creators who advocate for people to legally obtain their roms and emulate them through legal means, what people choose to do is irrelevant and these content creators aren't liable for what their audiences do, and this is definitely not the reason why Nintendo is taking these videos down or potentially ruining these people's livelihoods by striking their channels
I mean I don't give a fuck, I hate console exclusivity anyway, fuck Nintendo, but reality is reality.
There is almost none that emulate in a legal way
And that's based
Yeah people can emulate as much as they want
I really don't have any numbers or statistics to comment on that, but I wouldn't be surprised
just dont go crying to your audience when your youtube video promoting it gets taken down
i pirated a movie once and got in trouble so now i dont pirate anymore
Promoting emulation shouldn't be a problem since emulation is legal
hehe
I mean, yeah but Nintendo can claim it legally.
It's their copyrighted shit you are rebroadcasting
Nintendo is just being petty and they know they can take down these videos if they don't like them because that's how it works if the videos are viewable in japan
Claiming it is just as legal as emulation
Whether or not it's legal doesn't mean it's right, I never disputed that they have the legal power to do this
And I said it before, legally they can do this, they can get away with this because fair use isn't a thing in japan
Well they could do it in the US as well
i will say nintendo aparently claiming non modded videos as well is not cool
Fair use is a defense, so it doesn't protect you from the claim
In the US you can probably argue for fair use
It has to be argued in court
And you could probably do that
Right now none wants to really test this in case they lose and create an iffy precedent
oh are we still doing nintendo vs everyone
Whether or not anyone wants to go to court over this that's up to them, and they probably won't because it takes a lot of money lol and people may want to reasonably and amicably solve this situation (except Nintendo won't respond to that)
Nintendo is taking down my videos, why you should care, and how this affects everyone
Nintendo Game Content Guidelines for Online Video & Image Sharing Platforms: https://www.nintendo.co.jp/networkservice_guideline/en/index.html
Nintendo Switch End User License Agreement: https://www.nintendo.com/sg/support/switch/eula/usage_policy.html
POINTCR...
He goes into detail about the situation and even the guidelines for the videos
Nintendo is just going wild and pushing how far they can do this even against videos that have no modded content at all just because they can
What they've demonstrated here, is that they will ignore their own policies and licenses to selectively enforce their intellectual property. So if you uploaded any video that features any Nintendo content no matter how transformative or directly in line with their guidelines you are at risk.
So, what am I going to do? Nothing. I can't do much of anything about this. Other than plead with Nintendo and move away from this kind of content. My other option is to appeal the DMCA notices and risk a multi-million dollar lawsuit. So even if I'm in the right here, that risks my channel, my livelihood, and the livelihoods of my team.

guess which game is getting RTX Remix'd now
(not my screenshot)
that is not eurotruck, it's a racing game isn't it?
I don't know the name but looks like an old one
old low poly games on rtx hit different
do you think i know truck games
this is one of the truck games of all time
was it on Trucking Tuesday for the Yogscast
I don't know
it's ||Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing|| (spoiler if anyone wants to guess :P)
OH MY GOD

look at that beautiful pathtraced truck

I knew it
loving those airbrushed rear lights
wonder what the out of bounds void looks like in full rtx
Dude, ain't no way it was that easy. Tower without merchant help in Minecraft Dungeons, with being on the final life for like, second and third boss.
every time I see "Now playing Welcome to Our Town! (Endwalker)." I immediately think of the wrong Our Town.
very nice

Omg big rigs
now there's a meme I haven't heard in a while
article says that she's recording snake eater, and seems to come to the conclusion that its for a remake, but who knows, it could just be a new album right
Honestly I wouldn't put it past Konami to be trying to work on an MGS remake on top of the myriad of Silent Hill projects they got going on all at once
And you bet your ass just like they're remaking Silent Hill 2 instead of Silent Hill 1 they won't do what fans have pleaded for them to do which is properly remake MGS1 or even Metal Gear 1 and 2 but rather go for the most popular entry
I'm surprised these tweets haven't blown up though
look at the papers on the desk in this tweet 👀
I know, it's Snake Eater's lyrics
remake
I don't want Konami anywhere near MGS again so I hope not lol but I guess we'll see
im going to be streaming halo cursed edition in VC because i can
In this video we're looking at how the Resident Evil 4 Remake improved over the original while still keeping the soul.
lol
Crowbcat took such a fat L last night he changed the title and the description

Wow
lol
lmao no way
This is so weird
lmao
the change of title and description makes him look so petty
The singular fact Crowbcat pretty much silenced the ambience every time the Remake came up in his video is actually making me laugh so damn hard right now.
Like I knew something was wrong.
3081
275
He tries to deny it but it's so apparent the video is clearly trying to portray the original as much better and isn't being genuine at all, it's such a weird video to make in general because I never saw this guy doing something like this before
Fax
trying to quantify soul is weird
:izzywhat:
I wouldn't be fetching for genuine opinions on things out of 4chan
It's definitely not meant to be a genuine opinion.
@NoodleVEVO A game from 2023 had a plant that didn't sway when you walked through it. Meanwhile a game from 2013 had a plant that sways. That says everything you need to know about the state of modern gaming.
707
So true
Just look at the soul counter
Usually what people call soul tends to coincide with what I call "attention to detail"
To me, soul just means I get the sense that the person making the thing cared about it a lot
It's hard to define or even identify but I definitely wouldn't call RE4R soulless because I can super tell the team not only loves and respects RE4 but they put a lot of effort and care into every aspect of that game
Exactly!
It's a huge love letter to the game, to call it soulless is just being obtuse on purpose
Attention to detail = soul.
Soul =/= attention to detail.
there were already games in the early 2000s that had swaying plants when you walk through them
I think the first Jak & Dexter does it?
it's easier to do in a game with a cartoony artstyle because you can get away with it looking a bit unrealistic or exaggerated
Donut County was a recent game where I loved the low-poly aesthetic
There's a bunch of games from the 2000s that have that kind of stuff going on, I remember MGS2 had ice cubes that would melt in real time
it's a lot easier to sprinkle details like that when the game isn't super demanding but I feel like games nowadays have been adding those kinds of details in games too
games made by Kojima don't count because he is insane
lol
I still agree with the previous videos he made which sucks because the re4 one is hot garbage
True!
Yep i called it again
I think I even mentioned this a while back
You did
Troy Baker tried that shit with VA NFTs
And so did I
We all saw this coming
This problem is not even new to AI
Stuff like Hatsune Miku's software allowed companies to synthesize voice actors' voices using a bank of phonemes
AI just makes it easier.
I think the difference is that something like Vocaloid was created for the sole purpose of being an artificial voice thing
this is just trying to steal people's works and not pay them in return
just like they wanna do with visual arts
Yeah. It's unacceptable to hide a clause like that in the contract instead of making it obvious.
and soon they'll do it with music too
Voice actors union should have voted against allowing those clauses weeks ago.
Seems everyone has decided to sleep on AI until it is too late.
I don't think it's too late to regulate
It's not that it's too late, I feel like it's just these companies are really really rushing their implementations of AI into anything they do so artists need to respond fast even though this tech is still relatively new-ish at least for what it's currently being used
visual and music artists should definitely look into protecting themselves as well
Ah, Persona 4
Me: accept a quest to help someone to speak better
Me: give someone some lessons
Her: I messed up, i said something I didn't mean!
Her: "Move over ugly, i'm coming through!"
Her: "Wh-what should I do? She just started crying"
Me:
#2 seems drastic
Nahhh
Honestly, good. That game is Kevin Conroy's last performance as Batman and I would be heartbroken if it was rushed and sucked.
It's literally not gonna change anything
Gotham Knights was the exact same situation and after the delay it still released and was still a live service game at its core, it was still extremely disappointing and I feel like Suicide Squad will suffer the same fate
1 year is not enough time to change the core of a game like this, it's gonna be a looter shooter live service game that will release and be the hot topic for a few weeks, probably because people will hate on it, and then it will be forgotten about
It may and if so I will be very disappointed, but if the delay ends up allowing them to polish it enough to be even acceptable in quality, I will be happy with it.
I'd rather it be forgettable than memorably bad.
I wish I could still hope that it will end up being good just as I was hopeful it was gonna be good from the first trailer but the signs and red flags are just too many
This has happened before and it's the exact same situation unfortunately
oh lord all of this guy's orders are gibberish aren't they
"so, why is there a poster of me in your room?"
Has anyone here played the game Scorn?
I haven't played it, but I've certainly seen a couple reviews of it
It sounds gross.
I have. It’s uh….certainly something. Disappointing to many, a masterpiece to some. I’m somewhere in the middle, since it certainly struck a chord with me
I'm with Yahtzee on that one, though. That the whole thing is just "why would you do this?"
Well, aesthetically speaking it’s a wonderful piece of art. It does capture the two artistic inspirations well. Not perfectly, but well. Those being Giger and Beksinski

I find it to be kind of pretentious but I still appreciate the experience
But it doesn't mean much to me
I dislike how much lore seems to be too hidden by the devs
i didn't even think Scorn had lore
I’m in the discord server for the game’s subreddit. No one is satisfied with the lore
People were expecting a doom type of game but they got something entirely different
more of a walking sim than anything
The artbook is where all the lore is
But even that + the game itself doesn’t really explain remotely everything. Key details are omitted
It’s hard to explain. But the whole game gives me a vibe that I desperately crave. “Ah yeah. This is how I feel but cannot put into words”
My imagination goes wild when playing/reading about the game.
So idk. Maybe I’m just crazy

Hello there
Potential Red has been in Manechat many years ago and is now back for more
needed more pony
Anyone want to play cross platform games with me sometime?
what games did you have in mind?
I swear, Vampire Survivors keeps shadow-dropping dlc; this is the second time I found out about (more) dlc existing like, 2 weeks later than it was released
Actually it's been at most 2-3 days
Still have to play this one but any excuse is good for more VS in my book
point is, this seems to be a trend that they don't openly announce dlc
which is a little annoying, but still makes me excited when I find out myself
They do openly announce DLC.
it ain't public enough if you ask me
yea i see
Full announcement here.
They could make the announcement even more public. What avenues would reach you best?
Oh!
They also have a new engine in development
(beta branch)
me personally: prolly discord, but idk if there's a discord for that (there almost certainly is, it's just idk which one exactly)
Salt and Sanctuary also has an update. Exciting!
...Yeah, you don't look suspicious at all. /s
I AM NOW A GOD
the true Chad Kun experience

https://www.pcgamer.com/9-very-long-games-that-are-actually-worth-it/ hm, this is a pretty good list
on the other hoof, every FF14 player in this server has told me skipping ARR is a terrible idea
Yeah I disagree with their opening statement, but the list itself is solid
Though if they're trying to make the point of Heavensward > ARR, they're not wrong, but it's not worth skipping
right, and most stories are "better" later on in ways that were only possible with the setup in earlier parts
(I'm not actually even sure how you can skip the main story questline
)
anyway I've heard of all 9 games and am simply not into those genres, so I guess I'm fine
(and Tale seems determined to replay P5R soon anyway)
space barring through quests or skip potion
I believe you can buy a boost from the online store to skip straight to ShB/EW level wise, but I'm not sure if it actually progresses the story
it does
Ooh
Shadow Yukiko almost made me abandon P4G, but now that i'm playing it avidly I've definitely added P5R to my wishlist
In fact I might just play through ARR again either as my lala lancer alt or NG+ing with my Au Ra
Still not sure but at least the Lancer start was an interesting angle with seeing Yda and Papy doing their dynamic
(and the dumb lala bastard trying to KILL A TREE WITH A STICK RATHER THAN USING MAGIC YOU DUMB-)
and with Duty Support I don't even need to worry about queues
arr is a fun experience why would you want to skip it ....
pray return to the waking sands
you get aetheryte tickets for that! a fuckton of them!
Jolly good!

Mara is in all of them, they keep subjecting us to it
Mara (Sanskrit: मार, Māra; Sinhala: මාරයා; Vietnamese: Thiên Ma; Chinese: 天魔; pinyin: Tiānmó or traditional Chinese: 魔羅; simplified Chinese: 魔罗; pinyin: Móluó; Japanese: 魔羅, romanized: Mara; also マーラ, Māra or 天魔, Tenma; Korean: 천마, romanized: Cheonma; Tibetan Wylie: bdud; Khmer: មារ; Burmese: မာရ်နတ်; Thai: มาร; Tagalog: Mara), in Buddhism, is a...
in Buddhism, is a malignant celestial king who tried to stop Prince Siddhartha achieving Enlightenment by trying to seduce him with his celestial Army and the vision of beautiful women who, in various legends, are often said to be Mara's daughters
Mara is not usually known to be as cocky as he is in the Persona games
by trying to seduce him
SUDDENLY MAKES SENSE
in Japanese, "mara" also happens to be slang for penis
so the joke was probably irresistable to the Persona devs
i hate atlus lmao
And thus we suffer
it's like when a 69 pops up in English
you don't really have a choice
nooooo not you again
RAD SHIBA

Interesting how most of the UI is in Japanese but the top right is still English
I can already fuse Mara, yes
localization is interesting
oh, oh we're actually calling him Rad Shiba, I thought you were kidding
his orders aren't riddles so he's cool in my book
Is this like a bar themed Papers Please?
..."sheepdog supremacists"? what sort of post-singularity intersectionality is this
VA-11 Hall-A is basically a visual novel about a bartender in a crazy cyberpunk world
Papers Please is more about the gameplay, here there's just a minigame for making the drinks but you often go hours only reading text

Yeah it's more about the characters than the world
though you do get a lot of worldbuilding
yeah, for me "visual novel" is defined by the novel / reading part being the primary thing, and any gameplay elements are a secondary concern quickly dropped when story says they should be (like that day we closed the bar early because of nearby unrest)
Does Phoenix Wright count?
the one Ace Attorney I played was in the gray area between point-and-click adventure and visual novel
you could reasonably enjoy it for the puzzle solving or for the writing (or both) and you'd get plenty of either
sure but I didn't want to, like, actually explain the plot
||Sei had better be okay

I do like that most of the scenes in Jill's room are just her talking to her cat while browsing the web
speak of the devil!

What shirt?
I assume Flitter means Rad Shiba's aloha shirt
No I mean the pink shirt that says Slut in Jill's room
Well, why not
oh that shirt
She never wears it. She just has it there
that one I don't know
How drunk did you get Jill on that visit?
not at all
I usually tank all 12 cans and watch the fireworks
I was waiting to get a hint about what upside it has and then got absorbed into the actual conversation and forgot all about it
there we go, finally another perfect day bonus

did you get any of Virgilio's orders without looking them up?
HA
NO
I almost got the 3rd one
Fun fact: Virgello is heavily based on one of Jim Sterling's older personas
my walkthrough says Piano Man wasn't any of the four
Hmmm, must be a different day then
Oh wait, I was thinking of Stella's first visit
oh frick he's not done with me
Where she bombards you with vague orders before Sei stops her lmao
oh THOSE orders, I got those no problem
been a while
