I got so side tracked that I ended up going out of boss order by accident
and because the skill tree is locked behind abilities, I've been saving a lot of points

You know after playing DMC for so long I can totally see how RE4 Leon could've been DMC1 Dante

Both are total dorky idiots trying to be cool and somewhat achieving it but still being goofs at the same time
RE4R Leon thankfully also has quips and they have this same dorky awkard but still cool energy to them
The bingo line is there

2005 Leon is still the most handsome one though
the remake is doing an amazing job at making the ganados really feel like they're puppets being controlled
there's a certain unnatural feeling to them even in-game that is very very noticeable and I very much enjoy that
The re4r demo was fun

Cool, I fit spot on on the performance tab
Now that we're seeing the end of cross-compatibility with the PS4/Xbox One
Only my OP machine meets the ultra, but not my personal computer.
But that hits performance.
Fun times
In fairness your personal computer also doesn’t have a 4K screen, which is what that is targeting
It's true
god, should I buy a 4080?
As mentioned in another chat, we may see a jump in spec requirements that effectively equates to a ten year jump in hardware requirements once everyone finally gives up on supporting previous gen consoles.
4K60 at max settings being a high bar isn’t really a new development.
I really didn't expect to see specs like this so soon
remember that for most users, "ultra settings suck" 🙂
I still can't tell 720p from 1080p most of the time
Ehh. I'd say that's noticeable. 1080p to 2k and 4k is where I struggle
yeah I know I'm way below average on noticing/caring about AV fidelity
my desktop PC is 4K now and I can't go back to 1440p for desktop usage
ah, I just got 1440p
I am all about 5K on my desktop monitors, though more for text rendering than anything else. I will happily run my games at some much lower resolution.
(meanwhile I absolutely cannot tell the difference between 60 fps and 120 fps in a video game. I can barely tell the difference between 40 and 60.)
My guess if you don't notice, the screen you are looking at has some upscaling technology
It's like, very noticeable without it
With it you can definitely not notice the difference
any idea how I could tell if that's happening?
Not sure
TVs often have it enabled by default, although it's generally disabled in game mode to reduce input lag
it's very rare for monitors to have upscaling tech though
Screen size will play a factor too, 1080p should be noticeable, same with 1440p. Above that objects in the background become more detailed.
Also I should clarify, depends on the size of the monitor you are looking at.
And it's also not difficult to get used to it in a few hours.
But if you have a game open, and switch to 720p from 1080 without having something on to smooth it, shit's blurry.
Nvidia cards have some stuff you can turn on to upscale too, if you need to.
Having it native it's not the only option.
definitely, 1080p still looks great on a phone
I remember the mindblowing moment the first time I looked at a phone with a 4.5" 720p display (329 dpi)
the OG Moto G 🙂
cheapest its been at $7.19
that's a steal
It's worth it if you want all three
If you want Arkham Asylum and Arkham City you can find better deals
Does it come with DLCs and stuff?

Oh yeah it's GOTY edition and Premium edition
Yeah that's a really good deal
If Nintendo doesn’t do any Splatoon sale every March 13 (Mar13) then it’s some missed opportunity.
I mean, they always do one for Mar10.

heh, that infamous Very Positive developer name
oh interesting, they have a Mad Tracks re-release! I had that game as a kid
it's pretty janky though, and the re-release didn't seem to have any changes for better compatibility with modern OSes
Finally got the modded version of this working, this brings back all the Japanese difficulty (as it is no longer cheaply difficult as it was in the West) and the better balanced shop prices.
Seems to be true.
But the Pokémon metaverse would mean they’d have to finally make a Pokémon MMO
A Game Freak developed MMO just sounds like an unusable nightmare.
"metaverse experts" still exist
Metaverse experts are people who have played Second Life for at least a decade
I will accept no other definition
Wasn't Zuckerberg's Metaverse a colossal failure and a complete waste of billions of dollars?
I wouldn't even be surprised if Nintendo did crypto and NFT shit but I am surprised that they're looking into starting now
we're at like, the mid to end point of this fad and people have been extremely negative towards literally anything that's even remotely associated with NFTs or crypto
anyway I played a few matches today on Strive with I-No and Baiken because I've been using Ramlethal for a long time and I actually did pretty well with their respective playstyles which are pretty different, I'll probably keep using Ramlethal for now but these two were pretty fun, they also have some sick alt colors that I love
Well, they're not done with it yet. But they're ramping up GPT based AI efforts internally.

honestly if they keep going after this it's just being extremely stubborn and foolish
burning an entire pile of billions of dollars would probably be better than this
it's certainly a deeply risky endeavor that's not likely to pay off anytime soon, if ever.
why does it look like that
You'd think they'd have smarter people on their team really
Metabook is expected to launch new hardware later this year
Like any person with sense that would say ''hey this is probably not a great idea''
"Metabook"????
I'm just being snarky about the name change.
oh lol
Since the timing of the formation of Meta was right at the peak of an incredible PR disaster for them.
It felt suspiciously like a multi-pronged effort to ditch the public distrust towards Facebook by simply rebranding while also attempting to assert in the public consciousness the idea that they invented the whole idea of a metaverse when they didn't.
It's an effort to get people to associate the idea with them specifically as the defining leaders in the space
And it'll work if the concept ever takes off
the whole "metaverse" situation is one that I can't understand seeing any value in unless you actively refuse to ever ask "what actually is this whole metaverse thing anyway?"
Right.
anyone who was around when WoW was released would know they're full of shit if they ever tried taking credit for the idea of a virtual space
the moment you try to pin down any of it, it's all stuff that's been normal for years, sometimes decades
Second Life already did it twenty years ago.
Blizzard was on this shit since 2003
don't forget about MUDs
But yeah, Zuckerberg just wants to gaslight the world again.
yeah cool waste of a billion dollars fucking loser, can your stupid metaverse do this?
didn't think so
BRISKET!!!!!!!
the thing that gets me about the metaverse is that all zuckerberg can imagine is people going to work in the metaverse
like some sort of deranged corpo secondlife
they keep trying to push VR as this sort of dope amazing wow new thing that you'll definitely want for everything you do including going shopping
Why would anyone want to go to work on VR? We already did work at home during the pandemic i'ts literally just opening up discord or skype and you're done
Imagine a 6-8 hour shift at work with a stupid heavy VR headset on your head all day
Does baiken have a gyaru alt?
I liked that Jam and Sol had one in Xrd
And remember baiken having one in Xrd as well
Hmmm she does have a very gyaru-ish alt color with brown skin and blonde hair I actually really like it and I would've used it but I like my girls' hair red
there's a gyaru mod for Baiken
her alt color 4 is similar to the one in Xrd
and then there's the gyaru mod which is actually really nice lol

@quiet swift So, you say you never even made it to the Stag Lord before quitting Kingmaker? Maaaaan, you're missing out on something wild. Right after you defeat the Stag Lord, you have to deal with trolls and kobolds banding together to destroy you, and then right after that it's a plague of parasitic monsters spawning from portals within people.
And this is all still early game. I spoiled myself a tiny bit (because I actually like doing that), and holy shit, this game very rapidly gets nuttier and more badass with every chapter.
I'll admit, the really early game difficulty curve can hit you pretty hard, but if you stick with it, literally everything gets waaaaaay better after you kill the Stag Lord. The gear starts getting awesome, the quests start pouring in from every direction, the story gets more mysterious, the battles start getting crazier and more action-packed, and more.

Ooh, chaos dwarves! I thought they were never gonna get added.
Yeah they were one of the last major factions needing added
Leon, infected with the Las Plagas parasite attacks Ada Wong as it momentarily controls him.

One of the things I hope RE4R does better than the original is the direction and writing, as much as I'm on the same boat of ''RE4 is already great it doesn't need a remake'' there's always improvements that could be made and RE4 isn't any less or more a b action movie type game but there's just so many things about that game that could've made it a lot more compelling
I'm kinda interested in seeing what they're gonna do with this scene in particular because I always found it to be very awkward and oddly casual and chill for what's going on (Ada getting choked at full force and Leon getting stabbed in the thigh which could kill a person)
or, perhaps, explain Krauser this time
||the demo shows him in the opening cutscene, so I'm optimistic about the writing going up a notch||
I love video game mods

There's 100% going to be more Krauser content we've already seen flashbacks to Leon and Krauser in Operation Javier
a whole lot of room for improvement with the writing especially Ada and Leon's first reunion since he last saw her
in OG RE4 he just kinda goes ''woah Ada? okay'' when it should be a monumental reveal to Leon
after the changes I very much disliked from RE3 I'm hoping that everything in RE4 will be perfect

FighterZ has some crazy funny mods
and Guilty Gear Strive has... some interesting mods
Excellent. Yuzu just managed an update that tripled performance of some games and brought Prime Remastered FPS up to the neighborhood of ~100FPS.
DMC5 is really weird, sometimes it can look very dull and desaturated but other times it's super colorful like when inside the Qliphoth, I assume this is intentional and they use some filters to change the saturation and color palette
does Prime Remastered handle unlocked framerates well (or has a 120 FPS mod)?
IME no
When I previously tried it in Yuzu and Rayujinx it seemed like it was expected to have a locked framerate.
But I couldn't say for certain.
Haven't tried the new build yet.
damn Nero looks so good with his DMC4 hairstyle
Oh no
are those Switch emulators? I remember trying to set one up to emulate Bayonetta 3 but I couldn't find how to make it work

https://www.pcgamer.com/upcoming-videogame-tv-shows-movies/? Huh. Bigger list than I thought.
Wow, Amazon acquiring the rights to Mass Effect in 2021 was stealthy
I don't think I heard about that
And yeah, that's more than I thought. Hadn't heard of most of those.
I hope the god of war and horizon shows are good
?????

I'm gonna be honest I'm happy if these shows end up being good but I can't be less interested on tv shows from games
I feel like it's just going to further increase the argument and belief that stuff is only legitimately good art or something achieves a higher level of quality or whatever whenever it's made into a TV show or a live action movie
it certainly doesn't help that games like God of War already get dunked on for its cinematographic approach, and it probably doesn't help games like TLOU too especially considering how faithful and legitimately good the adaptation seems to be
Last of Us was good, but i dont really have any interest in any other video game shows
I like when good shows are made, I dislike when bad shows are made, anything over that I don't think matters much
I think stuff other than whether or not a show is good or bad matters
Also I kind of agree that games are not very good at telling stories, in general
Some games are definitely getting there but you can see that it's a young medium
I don't think that's entirely true
I wouldn't say games overall aren't good at telling stories
Games have more than one type of storytelling and if we're going by the way movies tell their stories then that's because games aren't movies
Sunset Shimmer baiken mod
i view something like the Mario movie as supplemental to the games idk it's hard to describe what i mean
Mario just like Sonic doesn't exactly adapt anything other than the loose main plot those games usually share so it's different, it's also animation and not live action so that's good
It's a complicated evaluation for sure, and games can definitely elevate the storytelling in unique ways, but if we just evaluate good ways of telling a stories, a LOT of games are just cutscenes separated by several hours of gameplay, that when you are lucky does anything for the story.
just like Arcane isn't exactly adapting any specific story in League other than the vague character origins and it's also beautifully animated
You are not going to go "Oh yeah, I really felt the character arc coming together when he stopmed on the 57th goomba"
That depends a lot on the type of game
well, I think Last of Us being live action instead of animated was a good call considering the game it's based on isn't stylised in any way and already looks pretty realistic. something like Mario def has to be animated imo
And I am specifically just evaluating the medium for telling stories, games kind of do double duty of acting as a mechanical challenge and a storytelling device, but often the two don't have much synergy with each other (the better stories in games are told when that happens, which is rare)
I disagree, it's not exactly a conversation I wanna have so casually because for this type of evaluation you need to have so many games in mind and I can't just say ''games are like this'' because I don't have a large sample of games at the top of my head to accurately say whether or not 'games' in general are good or bad at this one thing
But I definitely don't think games are naturally at odds with storytelling or storytelling in games is bad in the slightest
The fact that it's kind of mindblowing when we get these high level synegistic effects between gameplay and storytelling is IMO a sign of how young the genre is.
Making all the parts of your experience work well with each other is kind of important.
I'm not saying they are naturally at odds, just that we are still learning how to make them work well as a storytelling device
I'm not saying that they can't be good at it, just that unlike cinema, books, tv, which had a lot more time to mature, we are still figuring it out, which is exciting
I really liked the story in Tetris. If you fit in perfectly, you just end up disappearing.
There's a lot of games that have good to great stories, just because they don't translate to film doesn't mean they're bad. There are books that have the same problem but no one is saying they're bad stories.
And many TV shows and movies have really bad stories but we tend to ignore those in these discussions.
was that Halo show any good
I think that games that tell stories well are rarer.
At least conventional stories,.
A lot of good stories in gaming you kinda have to ignore what would be pretty bad flaws in other genres.
Like, 10 hours of gameplay between plot points in horizon zero dawn are not a huge flaw, because the game is fun to play, but I would argue they don't make the story better.
In any case my main point was that I don't particularly care about TV shows or movies made to adapt a game, I don't think there's any point to it unless it's something completely different but in that same world like Kojima is planning to do with Death Stranding by telling a story in the same world. If one of these is done then of course I want them to be done right and I'm glad we've gotten adaptations that are good lately but I don't like and I don't see any point in adapting something into film or tv myself because I'd rather play it and I'd rather more people enjoy and recognize games as its own medium
As an obsessive Halo fan, no, the Halo show was… terrible.
Though if you aren’t an obsessive halo fan it’s somewhat better.
If you ignore that a full 50% of it is spent on a plot that goes nowhere and is pointless.
Midnight
Like 40% of it was completely pointless, yeah
can i ask you a question about Master Chief's suit
No.
it doesn't???????
It doesn’t.
why would someone make that up
Memes
It's fine
It was alright, yeah.
i feel like everyone talked about it for like a month and then i never heard anything else
That's because it was mismanaged
Pretty fun Halo gameplay and a not too bad story IMO
But the live service angers a lot of people
i do remember watching cutscenes and being shocked that Master Chief talked because i had always thought he was a silent protagonist ala Doomguy
And there are indeed extensive mismanagement problems with it
But just taking the campaign in a vacuum, yeah it’s fun
Master Chief was never silent to my knowledge
Correct
Chief was never a silent protagonist. Just relatively quiet, he rarely spoke up.
like Mando in season 1
even while sleeping
I liked the style of story that Outer Wilds told, it's just kinda there for the player to find and piece together. Wouldn't make a good tv show or movie though
I'm now imagining him showering in full military gear
plus he can talk to Cortana with the helmet on so that's a plus
how does he shower
In the suit
Carefully
In the suit
does he shower????
wow
With some cryosleep in between
he's probably stinky
there's not a lot of showers in space
He just pours some dish soap in there and does a bit of a shimmy until he's clean
Yes
augmented
a superhuman
He’s a genetically and physically augmented human
LMAO
all Spartans are superhumans
The Spartans are all bioengineered
They go through a highly risky augmentation process
weren't most of them kidnapped from a young age and then subjected to horrific tests and only like 15 or something survived
Yes
No those are the jedis /s
About 150 were kidnapped from ages 4-6, forced to go through intensive military training until 14/15 and then they went through an augmentation process which had about a 50% fatality rate
erm acchually the plural is Jedi 🤓
That’s the Spartan II program. Later iterations changed this.
were they allowed to play video games
Only board games
Only ender's game
Ender's Game is so good
Like Raiden playing his VR Missions
But ENders Game style stuff
i read it in 7th grade and then was like "wow what a good book" and then googled Orson Scott Card and surprise! he's homophobic
Also their existence was completely secret and as far as their families knew they were dead. When they were kidnapped they were replaced with flash clones that were designed to die in a few months.
Reminds me of the clone thing in The Last Starfighter
And the Spartans were throughly brainwashed, basically.
is Master Chief's name really John
The Halo book Fall of Reach goes into full detail on the Spartan program.
Yes
We do know what he looked like as a child, though. There are official text descriptions and a couple of official illustrations which are all consistent.
babby
And what his eyes look like at the age of 40-ish
has he never been seen without his helmet or something
He has
He's just never depicted outside of his helmet.
In text he has taken his helmet off
His fellow Spartans and the Spartan technicians have seen his face
But we as the audience are specifically precluded from seeing his face
The point being that the mystery is part of his character and it makes it easier for players to imagine themselves in his role
MASTER CHIEF FACE REVEAL ❓❓❓🚨🚨🚨➡️➡️➡️⭕️
what if he's hot
wait does this mean that all of that fanart ive seen of Master Chief and Doomguy kissing isn't real
Thanks for the 1 million views everyone! Boltfan and I are both surprised at how popular this became!
I've noticed a lot of you are confused about the Grunt. It's there, during the final run on the Maw. He says "Good thing that Food Nipple's waiting for me at the Starship, cause man, I've worked up a BIG GRUNTY THIRST!"
A lot of you are as...
He has been depicted in the games taking off his helmet
You never see it and funnily enough he just has another helmet under the helmet
Given the extreme close-up of his eyes that we've seen, it's likely that his face is wrinkly, pale and generally battle-hardened from stress.
i see
I personally don't have any desire to see his face, he's probably just some guy so there's no point in it for me
Yeah. He's basically just some guy.
it's like how everyone was all excited to see Din Djarin's face and then he was literally just Pedro
He just happened to have a particularly excellent genetic makeup which made him a good candidate for the Spartan program.
So he was (un)lucky enough to get "recruited"
This type of mystery is more interesting when the character is implied to be plot relevant or there's some sort of plot relevancy to knowing their identity but for John's case there's really not much of a point
Yep.
well Midnight i remember a bunch of like random theories that he would have a horrible scarred face or something but no he's literally just a guy
i love it
I mean he probably does have a scarred face, but not disfigured
He's no Vader
i was going to say something but the i forgor
oh right
new Mando episode tomorrowww
HYPE
Lol i saw that typo and imagined Goofy saying it
Haha
:pippwiggle:
Oh wow in the recommended I just saw a video about John taking off his helmet on the pilot of the TV show and it's EXACTLY the type of reveal I say makes no sense or adds nothing to this type of character
like spot on
YES
It was SO STUPID
It wasn't even late in the show
It was at the very fucking beginning with zero fanfare
Like, it didn't earn it
They pan up to his face playing some epic music and show the other characters' reaction like it's this meaningful important epic moment
It means literally nothing he's just some guy
Yeah.
They did not earn that.
I can see it being a good way to reveal his face, but the show did the worst possible job with that.
And then he just takes it off constantly throughout the show in a manner that makes zero sense.
It's not even about it being earned even, even if it happened at the end or something it'd still be stupid to portray it like this and not in the more subtle nuanced way the games do it where he takes his helmet off like at the end of Halo 1 on his ship when he's out of danger, kinda like something Samus would do once she's finished with a mission, and it's not played up to be important or anything it's just a thing that happens it's subtle
They did that because they didn't believe that you could make a relatable character who wore a helmet all the time.
Then the collective Halo fanbase screamed "THE FUCKING MANDALORIAN DID IT"
Yeah TV shows and films definitely have a huge problem when it comes to actors faces and focusing on faces all the time
I really wanna post that gif of when the Flash was possessed and took off his mask like "aw yeah gonna find out his secret identity!" And then hes like "i have no idea who this is"
Hahaha
I remember in No Way Home being infuriated that all three Spideys constantly took off their masks all the time
It drove me insane but I guess they just have to show off the actors
that happens in almost every Spider-Man movie
It's the same reason why I think not giving Batman white eyes on live action because ''you can't emote without your eyes'' is a stupid thing because plenty of fully masked characters have managed to communicate their emotions excellently without words or expressions
The showrunners for the Halo show were morons, I'm sorry. They even said they were proud that they didn't play the games.
Like, bruh.
At least read your source material, ffs
didn't Steven Spielberg do something with Halo
It doesn't happen even nearly as much in Tobey or Andrew's films
He was originally tapped to do the Halo show back in 2010, but that didn't pan out.
The Halo show has been in development hell for ages
i remember in Tobey's case his mask was off for most of the 3rd act in all 3 movies
except maybe the first one but it was basically completely destroyed
A lot of these people who make these adaptations seem to think their writing is just that much better and that whatever they're going for is just better than the source material
Resident Evil is a good example
They tried to do more adaptations of RE like twice in a row with the new film and the new show and failed at both, again
They just can't help themselves really, and it's why I have no faith on the new Silent Hill film for example, especially knowing the weird shit the director has said before
The Halo show intentionally went off on it's own non-canon AU.
They specifically didn't want to do a canon show
Which, okay fine
I always consider these shows and movies non canon anyways
But they did some weird things
You can go not canon and still make it good
Yeah
Arcane isn't canon to League but it's still good
But they didn't do that
man hearing about all these bad video game adaptations makes me happy that we've gotten really good ones in recent years
Arcane is excellent
Like, holy shit it's excellent
One of the best shows I had seen in a long time
the gay agenda compels me to watch it
I still haven't seen it
You should go see it
I'm still hoping that they're going to do other stories other than Zaun and Piltover
I know jack shit about League but I still loved it
I'd love to see some of the Freljord conflict adapted or even the rise of Shurima
There's so many good stories in the world of League and I kinda don't want Piltover to take all the spotlight
Arcane almost almost made me want to play League again
nO dont
Just play Legends of Runeterra
Legends of Runeterra is actually fun
But i remembered how toxic that game is
It's sad that Arcane has absolutely nothing to do with the game
MOBAs i dont know how they're fun?
I stopped playing League a long time ago but I'm looking forward to Project L
Because Arcane gives a sense that there's a better game to be had there
also if you're into RPGs there's a very neat RPG they released but didn't market at all
I hear it was really good
i tried that Pokémon MOBA and it was boring as hell
There's an RPG buried in there

I just want more stuff like in Arcane
But it had cute characters
I play/played League so I probably have a different perspective but I don't see how anyone would think Arcane would make it seem like League is a good game, it has next to no actual story other than the really short character bios and while there are other good stuff it's literally content you can enjoy without ever touching the game
Multiplayer Online Battle Arena
there's a lot of animated shorts that are great and extremely high quality as well as short novels and stories
which are also really really good
I will defend the RE movies plot being about as bad as the games, but without the gameplay to make up for it
the RE movies' plots are even worse than the games
thank
That said, I like the RE movies, they are trash but they are kind of fun trash
The games are at least fun b action movie stuff the movies are just straight up nonsense
Arcane makes you think that if all this great stuff came from a game, then maybe there's more to be had from the game itself
that's how it gets ya
But also I'd watch 6 episodes of just K/DA Ahri
How cartoonishly evil Umbrella Corp is in those movies always put a smile on my face

Sure but on this day and age everyone and their mom probably has at least heard about League and has a basic idea of what it is, unless you jump into League and download it without even seeing videos about it or anything there's no way for Arcane to really 'get' or 'trap' you
hold on
I would assume people would look up League, see it's a MOBA and go ''oh this isn't for me''
whoa mama
Sadly, Ahri is not in Arcane
Which is why Riot is expanding and probably completely neglecting League on purpose at least that's what I feel
They're working on a lot of other games and content for this world and it's probably for the better, I just hope they actually put effort and passion into those projects because League is a dumpster fire
It's not just the community Riot just doesn't care about League anymore
Project L is looking fire though
Did they slow down the league dev in any capacity?
I don't know but I wouldn't be surprised
League has been in decline for years now, the community and Riot are super disconnected
They care more about making new skins for people to gawk at and buy than actually fixing the game or listening to what the community is asking for
Eh, I don't want to comment on something I have no real sense of, not interacting with it for decades now
I feel like you should at least check before having strong opinion on things tho
But yeah if any of you want to actually get into League without touching League there's stuff out there, the animated videos are great, Arcane is good I hear, there's pleeeenty of stories and novels to get into, and there's the Ruined King RPG which I heard was preeeetty good actually, as well as a lot more other stuff incoming
I mean I was there I stopped playing League pretty recently
is LoL the game Tyler1 plays
If they are mismanaging league, I kind of feel it's something they never stopped doing, judging by the community
I don't know if Arcane has anything to do with it
It's been years of largely the same treatment
I think the last relatively 'good' year I remember was 2016
Rather than just Riot being Riot
If I remember correctly that's a year that people usually say was good or was the start of the decline
t1 has played other stuff but League is unfortunately the game he mostly specializes at and it brings him anguish and pain
and I kinda wish he stopped, t1 is a lot more fun to watch and a lot happier playing other stuff and being a variety content streamer
His streams of horror games are hilarious
he's a legitimately funny guy when he's not screaming his lungs out because his team is purposefully losing because they're streamsniping him or he's just being toxic because the game just makes you that mad
Hard to tell, people are dumb sometimes.
Lots of people do have fond memories of very bad wow expansions because it is when they played with friends or had more time to dedicate.
But yeah, I agree that it doesn't seem like riot is good at following community feedback quickly (or at all) from what I heard
It will be interesting when they do their MMO because taking feedback into account might be even more important in that genre than in MOBAs
that's always going to be a thing, in pretty much any online community of an active online game and I do get that, but it's especially strong in League and it has been especially consistent throughout the years and it's only gotten worse and worse so I definitely don't think it's a case of a couple of people saying stuff just for saying it but the game being fine, there's a legitimate problem
it's really not a joke at all when you hear people say ''damn I quit league and I just feel so much better''

it's not just the toxicity it's also knowing you're playing a game where the devs don't give a shit about you and probably don't even play their own game
I think that it's MOBA in general
I don't know if they're going to put a lot more effort into the other games and they just wanna distance themselves from League and that's why they're kinda not paying attention to it a whole lot, if that's the case I can sort of respect that and I hope the new games are good but if they're going to act the same way with the other games they're gonna have problems
The small team vs small team competitive enviorment is very toxic in games, almost inherently
I can't think of a company that managed to fix that
Competitive OW is toxic as hell
Counterstrike community is hell manifest.
Dota that is the closest thing to LOL is also renowned for being a drain on your life
It's not even just the toxicity that is the problem with League at all, that's a problem with most competitive online games and as a company/dev there's rarely anything you can do it's something people themselves have to regulate, although I will definitely say that there are much better ways to actually tackle and punish players who are detected to have a shitty toxic attitude or straight up say awful shit on chat and League has an awful system right now
they might as well delete the report button entirely

I remember this being the last massive outrage I was a part of
I hope they run that decision back like they did their stupid swear words demonetization thing
same
I like having no dislikes a lot
what happened
That's cool but a vast majority doesn't
i dont think it's that big of a deal tbh
I don't mind it, it doesn't really influence my life in any way
It's complicated, but it essentially boils down to the team being extremely out of touch with the state of the game and the community, I remember one of the big talking points was about how the devs 'didn't think the champions have overloaded kits' meaning that a lot of new characters have too much going on in their ability kits and can do a lot of stuff, when the reality is entirely the opposite and it's not even up to discussion or perspective it's just a straight up objective thing
i see
I remember how they neglected a bunch of broken champion releases but singled out a champion who got a complete rework and marked him as broken and OP when it was the most stable and fun rework and release of that year
So League's state has been a bunch of that kind of stuff and the community never being heard and honestly seems like the community is being ignored entirely even when they're right and understandably upset for years and years and years now so people are understandably not happy
and others like me completely stopped playing

I still like the game, I still like the world and characters, it's super dope and unique
but I don't think I'm gonna go back to playing that game as much as I did before
whgy play league of legends when you can play Half Life 2 instead
Because Half Life 2 doesn't fill the genre requirements
yes it does
Explain
requirements
- fun
That's where you're wrong, kiddo!
I remember for example people were very upset that League had a very strong meta of one shotting characters meaning that a lot of characters even ones that weren't assassins were killing enemies way too fast, if you watch a teamfight of League from like 2012 even and compare it to now it's night and day, teamfights used to last much longer and the League team tried to make it seem like they listened by toning down some damage values and toning up health and defense values only to just kind of revert that anyway in like a couple of updates afterwards
League of Legends is explicitly designed to not be fun.
oh!
uh
oke then uh
play Binding of Isaac while trying to unlock the Forgotten
that's not fun
League is either explicitly designed to not have fun or it's being managed by a bunch of inept idiots
Aram is probably the only fun gamemode in League and it's no wonder I started playing a bunch of Aram before I left
matches are quick, everyone's usually very chill in there, it's fun
well when i unlocked him i just kept restarting until i got Pyromaniac or Host Hat because the Mom Stomps counted as explosion damage before Repentance
hes not even that fun of a character tbh
I like the forgotten because you get free flight
I just use the skeleton until I have to swap
fair
Found a curator review on a Steam game:
“It's not even fuçking coming to Steam.”
???
How are you reviewing it then?
There have been a number of games that had steam pages created and then their steam launch was cancelled
(and sometimes then, much later, uncancelled)
so it could be or have been a true statement
It's Sifu, which is coming soon.
there are weird ones like Anno 1800 that even had pre-orders on Steam, and delivered the game to the pre-orderers, but was then not actually for sale for another four years
@slim thorn, I noticed you bought Death's Gambit: Afterlife. Here are some common problems that might irritate you if you don't know to account for them first. I sorted the list based on importance and reverse sorted based on how big of a spoiler it might be:
1- The old version of the game is accessible in the steam Betas tab, and it is very different. A lot of content has been cut or changed, and a lot more has been added.
2- The wiki for the game has been moved since the Afterlife expansion, and it is still lacking. You can instead use this guide https://www.neoseeker.com/deaths-gambit-afterlife/walkthrough or ask me.
3- You'll often be prompted to scrap items for material gain. Some of these items are not important, but many are missable, and some may seem useless now but become very important later. There is absolutely no way to tell which are which (but you can ask me.)
4- ||You'll be prompted to select a class at the start of the game. This is not permanent except in that your starting choice gives you a unique bonus for the remainder of that game. You can respec everything for free except the unique class bonus.||
5- ||In regards to your endings: The WILL stat starts at 100, goes up by one every time you die, and goes down by 35 if you defeat the heroic version of a boss. The best ending requires your WILL stat to be less than 100, and for you to have defeated five heroic bosses. In my experience these numbers are forgiving enough that you will not be frustrated trying to meet them, but don't intentionally bash your head against the wall. If you keep dying at one point, move to something else and build up resources.||
6- ||There is secret content that you can find out by solving an out-of-game puzzle. Some hints to it are cluttered around the game, but not nearly enough. I recommend you look up the solution if you want to experience it.||
@random steppe might also want to read this if he buys the game.
The things you see as a GM when you possess an account and wander into General chat...
Sipsip.
The sipsip just elevates it.
Overall, it was a good show; I'll definitely be watching S2 when it comes. One of the subplots/PoV characters was bad and boring, and there's a bunch of smaller issues (the others already listed some), but the main plot with MC/Cortana/Halsey was much better than I feared/expected, especially how it puts front and center the disturbing parts of the lore which the games never focused on and could only be backstory in the books (so there's a point in it being a reboot/separate continuity).
.....Halsey?
Pretty much. I played it and had some fun, but it felt like I was just redoing stuff that previous Halos did better, especially Halo 3. The open world aspect in particular was exactly as perfunctory as it is in most other open world games.
Dr Catherine Halsey is the scientist behind the Spartan program and the Cortana AI
oh
in the games and books MC barely ever interacts with her, but in the show they're talking every episode, and... a lot happens
i see
thanks, it might be ages before I actually start playing it, so I've copy-pasted a link to this message in my notes for later
No worries.
I have additionally edited the message with a unique easy to remember searchable code: The full name of the game.
I like this change in darkest dungeon 2. WHen you get to an inn (resting place where you can change skills and upgrades and stuff)... you get this blurry preview of the next place you chose to go
I really, really don't like the 3D carriage scenes in Darkest Dungeon 2
Did they ever change or get rid of them?
Nope. In fact the first chapter where you're building stuff and get items and so on to prepare for the 'real' combat zones extended the length of those scenes
Maaan
It's not so different from walking room to room in #1 but it does feel worse, I agree. Though the interaction of running over stuff to get some money/items is neat enough
I mostly don't like how it looks

theres a lot of design decisions that mean im not gonna get dd2 until its on hella sale
Did you check it out in early stages of the early access? There's a fair bit of changes since the start. I got it then cause i loved the first, then some updates made it hellishly harder. They also changed the progression/unlock system massively, for the better
Yes I did
The 3d carriage thing isn't changed but it does feel better than back then. Still brutally hard though
Relationship system is more understandable, the progression system is much better, the mastery points are more plentiful/easier to get, for a few immediate things that come to mind
I only care about the carriage system. It's my deal breaker
Well then you're never playing it :p

Metroid Prime Remastered is in stock at GameStop apparently.
I dunno if I should buy it from there.
GameStop is a decent retailer, so why not?
They charge for shipping unless the order is 59 bucks.
So I'm probably gonna be overpaying unless I add another purchase.
Meanwhile I got a good deal on Amazon, 128gb micro sd card with Tetris Connected Physical version.
Paid 46 bucks, and I'm sorta thinking of just getting the Booster Course pack.

Xenoblade chronicles 2 and granblue fantasy must be right up your alley then
Never heard of Granblue Fantasy, but yeah, I LOVE the aesthetic of Xenoblade Chronicles 1/2/3, I'm just not a fan of the action-RPG gameplay.

the ''we're all going to die'' theme
Other dragon ball games with banger osts that I can think of is, raging blast 2, fighterz, dokkan battle and extreme butoden
Battle Selection/Battle 100/Survival theme song of Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team.
Tenkaichi Tag Team got some bangers too
Pretty much Budokai Tenkaichi for the PSP and with Co-Op (4v4)
I always liked the budokai songs even if it's both apparent and noted that they were plagiarized lol
The character select theme from tenkaichi tag team is fire
Yeh learning about that didnt stop me from jamming to them

Yeh the part starting at 0:22 is too strong
I highly recommend this games ost
It wont disappoint, gets new tracks to this day
I want BT4 to go even further beyond with these tracks
Same
BT4 has a lot of legacy and hype to live up to
as the Pat fuckboi McBovin said "expect nothing and deliver less"
Firstly, I hope it doesnt rely on dlc because that will ruin the purpose of it being a budokai tenkaichi game

Like straight up it's going to happen don't expect a full cast on the base game
If it does, I will be beyond surprised
expect nothing and deliver less
I hope transformations work the same way too, goku went straight to blue in the trailer instead of going a grade higher. But it is just a trailer
Also beam struggles need to make you wear down or break your $60+ controller
if I'm not getting blisters on my palm spinning that analog stick, it's not good enough
No longer a budokai game if it cant fill in that criteria

I hope they don't skip over GT like a bunch of cowards
Yes, I want to play through the Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball GT and Dragonball Super stories all over again for the millionth time after more than a decade
I want to make a team with world tournament Goku, Super Saiyan Goku, Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Blue Goku all in the same match
I have a feeling they will skip GT and og dragon ball and only have the characters from them
Then I don't fucking want it
Dragon ball games recently doesnt go over GT anymore, kakarot is getting a 23rd world tournament dlc tho
It's not Budokai Tenkaichi if I don't go through all the story of all of Dragonball
Might as well download the BT4 mod for BT3 if they don't include everything
I like how budokai tenkaichi 2 did story mode
It was open world so you have to get to the next episode by flying there
They should have it go through all of the movies as well
Like let me play as the Z fighters getting bullied by Broly
Cooler is so cool
That Hatchiyak story mode is about to be epic
Give me that Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans OVA that nobody even knew existed and nobody cares about
I had raging blast 2 so I knew
give me bardock but have him have both the original episode of bardock outfit and the dbs broly movie outfit
I always used to get general rildo and hatchiyak mixed up, I thought they were the same person somehow
And when you play as Bardock vs Bardock have both of them have special interactions like all the other characters in BT3 have
I want to reenact my childhood fanfiction in this game
The same characters reacting to each other is always too good
please have future gohan be his own slot
Next up: another quote video of all other characters
Future Gohan: D-dad...
Goku: What is it Gohan? You look sad, what's wrong?

There is also the small attention to details in the game like Goku have fluffy super saiyan hair up to the cell saga and buu saga onwards has the spiky hair. Or how ultra saiyan trunks is sluggish and drains ki faster than everyone else in the game
there's also Goku and Grandpa Gohan
Im scared they will forget characters like grandpa gohan or arale
Imma be honest I like Namek/Android saga super saiyan more than than the current one
His hair was so fucking THICK

Yeh, the hair has physics from wind and it has a flow, now its just a bundle of spiky bananas
I hate the banana hair they got now

Buu saga was ok but Super's ssj hair is way too stiff
The shape of the hair is so fucking ugly it actually looked like hair before and it was never really drawn exactly the same, if you look back there was a lot of inconsistencies with Goku's Super Saiyan hair but that was fine because it made it feel like he had real hair that wasn't in perfect shape every time
but the Zach hadel screaming mom
get in here moooom

Goku is now using hair gel, theres no other reason why his hair is always still
Imagine if his hair was fluffy, it also will make a bigger difference when compared to Vegetas hair if goku had his og super saiyan hair
The only one who made DB Super look INCREDIBLE was Yuya Takahashi
Too many pics :X
I'm not familiar with DBZ lore. Did Goku die for a period of time or something?
several times
Goku dies of heart disease originally
Yeah, I automatically could tell when Takahashi was the one making a fight scene because the difference is too big between that and dragon ball supers normal animation
what
Nani
Heart attack, yes
MASAKA
Trunks travels back in time to the timeline of the show to prevent that, but in the 'future' timeline Goku is dead
ive never consumed any DragonBall content
and they don't have dragon balls in that future
me neither
So no free revives
I've consumed majority of dragon ball content
I've watched some of Dragonball and DBZ, but not too much of it
I was about to ask did a thing happen with a DB game that I should know about or is everyone just having fun with tangents
Kinda intended to go through it
That future trunks special was really sad when I watched it, especially when Gohan was just looking at a lifeless Goku
so like is DragonBall good?
but anyways yes Android saga artstyle is peak DB artstyle and it hasn't been that good ever since
I've had a couple friends who were pretty into it
new dragon ball game coming out that has legacy in that exact line of dragon ball specific games
Budokai Tenkaichi 4 was announced recently
Agreed
Agreed
It looks soo good in-game too FUUUUUUCK
Ok but kid buu vs ssj2/ssj3 goku was really raw
I'm not gonna act like the fights in the Buu saga don't go hard its got plenty of good fights Goku vs Vegeta, Gohan vs Buu, it's just that the entire arc is kind of disappointing really
Honestly up to the end of the Cell Saga, DBZ abridged is more fun to watch
So I have better memories of the previous arcs and previous fights
I liked the filler episode of Goku and Vegeta inside Buu
I saw many people hate the filler in the buu saga, I found them really entertaining
On this day and age you don't even have to watch or read Dragonball you can just play literally any of the DBZ games that have come out in the past 20 years and you will experience literally all of the story with only minor stuff left behind, although BT3 covers a lot of pretty much everything even OG Dragonball
Just like Naruto Storm games are literally the same you can just play those and you'll be fine you'll have known all of Naruto story
The dragon ball game openings sometimes spoil the entirety of dragon ball within a minute
tenkaichi 1 Goku and Vegeta looking at each other.gif
intense nodding
Oof I ran out of nitro but I did have that emote
Truly the most dragon ball gif of all time
them dudes are glistening too they've been going at it for a while
Vegetas tank top is more durable than Gokus gi, there was only one time when vegeta fully lost his shirt
the real question is: Ultimate Gohan or Mystic Gohan
I always saw mystic gohan as base form after z sword training and ultimate for when he transforms. The games usually calls gohan's transformation ultimate tho
We call him Mystic Gohan here usually but I've seen it called Definitive Gohan too
Thats the first time Ive heard of that name for him
That is the first time I've heard of that too
Oh woah
Pefecto
Gohan (Definitive Edition)
El Dorado: Perfecto
Whenever I see latin sub of dbz, it always reminds me that Gokus voice actor is the father of twilight sparkles voice actress
They both try to reform villains
I believe it
Fun fact Goku's VA Mario Castañeda has a whole meme surrounding him because he has a tendency to ask for money/a lot of money for appearances or to make him say something/autographs and that stuff so people started making memes and jokes about him asking for money for even encountering him on the street
lmao
now I'm just looking through the amazing super saiyan posts on manebooru https://manebooru.art/images/80618
omg
Aj has no eyebrows to worry about at least
I need to see ssj3 gokus eyebrows dispersing when he transforms and his eyebrows returning when going back to base form
They never showed us what it looks like
I honestly never cared as much about SSJ2 or 3 as much as I did SSJ4
Ssj4 had the best fusion
Gogeta straight up removed all negative energy by kicking omegas attack
they're the best looking transformations in all of Dragonball they actually have ties to the Saiyans' Oozaru origins and they look raw as fuck
And they actually look different than goku and vegeta going to the barbershop
the red on the outside of their eyes is so sick
I remember hearing all the time that Sage Naruto was based off of SS4 Goku due to the red eyeshadow thing
Dont ssj4s have really good ki control and speed as their specialty
Wait, I think that might be super saiyan blue
I don't know all I know is they look cool as fuck
I dont know if dbs will ever use ssj4 but if they did, they might somehow ruin it
Unfortunately by that point we've already gotten to the point of flexing your power level number to win, SS4 Goku did nothing to Omega Shenron but Gogeta wrecked his shit so hard SS4 Gogeta is still the most powerful entity in all of Dragonball he's stupid OP
and of course even though I love DB GT to death and it was my childhood it wasn't that good
The way vegeta got ssj4 was kind of goofy
I only liked the baby and shadow dragons arc from GT
It's kind of creative but it does feel super cheap
Why has goku and vegeta never wished for their tails back in super
Super has a lot of problems
The writers probably forgot Saiyans have tails

Toriyama himself said that he didn't make Goten and Trunks have tails because he just forgot
Wow
just like why he didn't have launch in DBZ
Just like how he forgot about characters like Launch and Uub
he forgor
Yeh

Future Trunks with a tail would've been sick
I feel like the androids would've used trunk's tail to their advantage by grabbing it when they were bullying him
They probably would've cut it out
That too
Pinkie would win
It's very weird how saiyan tails just seem to plop out of the body all the time they're ripped off, a tail is part of your spine so it shouldn't just pop out like that and leave a perfect smooth surface and no blood
Buu would seal himself up again if he went up against Pinkie
The only character who had a proper reaction to their tail being removed was Vegeta
The smart choice
unless you're one of those lizards that can detach their tail to escape
Goku also was in a lot of pain when they were pulling his tail and helping it grow back faster
....I don't think that's how it works though...
Saiyans are part lizard
oozarus can shoot lasers from their mouths like Godzilla can
That scene was the longest 3 minutes Ive ever sat through
Let's pull on this child's spine, I'm sure nothing will go wrong
It's realy funny how 'monkey' is used in TFS as some type of slur against Saiyans when that's kind of what they are
they're not exactly full on apes but they're also not exactly monkeys either, although only monkeys have tails
Frieza and Cooler use it as a slur against saiyans everytime
freezer (and cooler) use it all the time though
they don't resemble any actual species of primate we have entirely it's more of a mix of a lot of different species
They also resemble werewolfs
I like the theory that says Oozarus are the Saiyans' real forms and they just eventually evolved into a more humanoid form for whatever reason
Thats gotta be millions of years of evolution
The og frieza voice actress was my favorite
I do not own Dragon Ball Z

Ssj4 goku was cold
Oh damn I forget BT3 had Selypar
Remember when people said she was Gokus mother because Gine didnt exist back then
I think
SSJ4 Goku is just SSJ3 Goku on steroids he's not playing around

I can't remember if Gine was actually a thing before DBS
Ah I think her first appearance was on DB Minus
Dragon ball what
DB Minus would be the canon DBZ appearance
It's a prequel manga of sorts
This is DBZ canon not DBS canon
it's an Akira Toriyama manga that has ties to dragon ball but is ultimately it's own separate thing
Ah its canon, after seeing a bunch of manga panels from fan made dragon ball mangas I always default to something being fanmade until proven otherwise
nah this was written by Akira Toriyama
The only problem is that a lot of the details conflict with Bardock's movie so...
You gotta choose which one is canon for you
Average dragon ball lore moment
I watched Vegeta vs android 19 a few days ago, my guy Vegeta does not get that many wins throughout the series
and he's still a better character than Goku
I don't like Super at all personally I think it's the silliest thing and it's borderline going to reach DB Heroes levels of stupid fanfic territory if it doesn't stop soon but I do like some of the character moments especially with Vegeta recently where he went back to Namek and didn't ask for forgiveness he just stated he will protect them because he thinks what he did to them is terrible
Dbs murdered Gokus character
I like the super broly more
DBS Broly is cool
than the movie broly
Dbz broly is more menacing and a demon, dbs broly has better writing and character
Thing about DBZ Broly is that he was peak of power back when SS2 didn't even exist
But he's on par with blue Goku and Vegeta now as a Super Saiyan so that's pretty powerful
I overlooked vegeta saying this, but afterwards vegeta gets the vegeta sunday special of not getting a victory again
Gogeta was ruthless against him, it was overkill
Soul punisher didn't do much because dbs broly isnt evil
True dragon mode. He even breathes fire
yoooo the goku and chi-chi in the water reflection
still mad about Videl
Videl has never been badass again since the Buu arc
and she got her shit wrecked
there was a chance here to subvert the standard dynamic and make Videl the fighter and Gohan the regular person that has a job and studies
All of the earthlings in dragon ball don't do anything anymore
I miss seeing them fight someone they know is way stronger than them but that doesnt make them back away from helping
Saiyan saga and cell saga had them shine the most
Z fighters wearing casual clothes was awesome
To this day one of Goku's best looks and it's not available as a costume on any DBZ game ever made
That outfit gives me the same feel as a fighting game character getting a redesign with casual clothing but the color pallete and design still resembling their old design
Wait this goku was never in a game? Lemme double check
Not any that I played/know about no
Not in the Budokais to my knowledge, not in the Budokai Tenkaichis, not in FighterZ
This is the closest there is, its in budokai 1 but the jacket is brown
Its called streetwear Goku

I think I forgot to mention it in chat, but the last few days I was replaying Spec Ops: The Line
glad I did because I'd forgotten everything except the one scene everyone's heard of, and it's still really good; knowing where it was going only softened things a little
Spec Ops is one of those games I know nothing about
the elevator pitch is that it's Heart of Darkness / Apocalypse Now as a video game
ah, well
HoD/AN/SO:TL are all stories where the protagonist is sent into a dark, hostile place where unspeakably inhumane crimes are regularly committed, initially with the hope of helping or fixing the situation, but ultimately losing a part of themselves in the process
wait are we thinking of different Heart of Darkness
Apocalypse Now is probably the most famous one, as it was a massively successful Vietnam War horror film; if you've ever heard the line "I love the smell of napalm in the morning", that's from one of the clearly unhinged commanders in that story
Heart of Darkness is a cinematic platform video game developed by French developer Amazing Studio for the PlayStation and Microsoft Windows. A Game Boy Advance port was announced in 2001 but it was never released.
The game places players in the role of a child named Andy as he attempts to rescue his dog who has been kidnapped by shadow-like spec...
?
ah nope totally unrelated
egoraptor
yes
Spec Ops: The Line is probably the best story in a military shooter FPS without being HOORAH AMERICA FUCK YEAH
Spec Ops: The Line is a modern military third person shooter set in the near-future ruins of Dubai after apocalyptically bad sandstorms, and at first you've been sent in to find out if anyone survived
it's also a deconstruction of those shooters in many ways, which is its biggest difference from the HoD novel and AN movie
e.g. only a few chapters in you find yourself forced to shoot other american soldiers to stay alive and make progress, and things only get worse from there
(I'm trying to avoid spoiling any of the truly interesting and gut punching twists later in the story)
IIRC, Battlefield Vietnam references Apocalypse Now a lot in its opening mission
or maybe another one
but I'm pretty sure one of the BF or CoD campaigns is pretty much a copypaste of what happens in that movie
anyway
personally I think Spec Ops: The Line is one of the most interesting case studies for the whole "storytelling in video games" topic, because it has such an incredibly strong movie parallel to compare and contrast with
SO:TL can do things like have the loading screen messages transition from "most weapons have an alternate fire mode" to "you are still a good person"
and that hits extra hard because games trained us to only expect the former; HoD/AN have no equivalent of that sort of trick
"Sometimes the player who just killed you is just having a really good day."
that's one of CS:GO's loading screen hints, it gets memed regularly
I played this one! It was very unique and interesting but overall a bad game.
anyway so that's why I've been watching a bunch of video essays about Spec Ops today
It's also an Isekai
Cap: also that's why I was conveniently in the mood to reread Watchmen
quite a bit of overlap there
is Doom an isekai
not in the genre sense
yeah but he goes to another dimension (Hell)
the genre is defined by a lot more than that lol
ok if he got a hot demon gf/bf/prtner would it be an isekai

Even with the standard way of doing storytelling in games of gameplay cutscene gameplay cutscene there's still so much stuff that is unique to games that cannot be done in film
yeah
is that a yes
i dont know anything about anime
one thing these analysis videos made me conscious of that I wasn't before is that (don't read this if you might play Spec Ops someday) ||every single choice you can make is made not by selecting options from a menu, but by either shooting X, shooting Y, or not shooting; part of the point is to examine the idea that in a shooter the only way you interact with the world is by shooting things||
schüt
that's one of the best ways to handle choices in videogames especially for any game that wants to go for different routes or endings

the word "isekai" literally means "other world", and in modern times it's become a genre label for stories that revolve around the main character ending up in another (usually fantasy) world and forced to start a new life there for whatever reason
though the term comes from a recent anime trend, in principle this is not unique to anime, e.g. it usually also retroactively includes stuff like the Narnia books
Mario
the Mario movie does look like it might do that
okay well the games never talk about it lol
they kind of do because uh it goes from Donkey Kong > Mario Bros > Super Mario Bros and iirc it's talked about in the instruction booklet
right, the Sonic movie would be what's normally called a reverse isekai
The games never really seem to put a lot of focus on the isekai aspect of Mario I remember posts popping up that Mario was always an isekai but it's not exactly anything that's very apparent at all
yes it is
I'm pretty sure a lot of people have no clue that it's even a thing
time for the cool fantasy character to come live in our hellish regular human reality
now go get a job!
it's a detail somewhere in the lore but it's never part of the main story, much less a major part with all the tropes you'd expect of the genre
right
this is like calling Dark Souls a massively multiplayer game; there's a sense in which it's not wrong but it's obviously missing the point
i saw a news publication say that we should have a Mario soulslike and i physically recoiled at the idea
they also said Mario should have a Metroidvania but that is literally Luigi's Mansion so
Zelda definitely could, it's flirted with the narrative tropes in particular several times already
i think a city sim where you have to build a Mushroom Kingdom of your own
would be cool
or you could make a Koopa Kingdom instead
Super Mario fps except we've already had that with Yoshi's Safari on the SNES
or um
i dont know many other genres
Super Mario immersive sim
what is an immersive sim
oh god why did I pick that
soooooo "immersive sim" is a genre term almost as hard to pin down as "RPG", but since you asked
to me the term means 3D games with a huge emphasis on open-ended level design encouraging players to choose one of several equally viable methods for solving each problem; typically each level would let you do at least a few of fight your way to the thing, sneak your way to it, find a secret passage, do a sidequest that convinces an NPC to help you, and so on
the original Deus Ex is the usual poster child for this
Dishonored
System Shock 2 and Prey (2017) are the others I'm personally familiar with that almost everyone seems to agree count
prey
I need to finish Prey. That was really fun.
(also everyone should play Prey, I know most of you didn't
)
Mario
It is an amazingly good game.
i love mario
