Alrighty, after some stumbling, I finished up with the mansion. All the evil-aligned and dubious characters joined up on one team because I decided to be a good guy and help some soldiers out, and all the good-aligned characters joined me (hilariously all of them were girls, lol).

@gaunt marten Alrighty, first impressions: there's a couple bugs that can be annoying at times (sometimes the turn-based combat doesn't properly appear at the start of a fight so you need to "un-sticky" it by switching to the real-time-with-pause mode and then switching back, and another bug I ran into was my bard casting a healing spell on an enemy when I told her to attack instead), but ultimately it's a solid experience. The world building is quite rich, the story is simple yet surprisingly much more expansive than I thought it would be, and the combat is pretty good (although definitely not as straight-forward as D:OS2, given that it follows Pathfinder/D&D rules rather than a conventional CRPG). Side quests are aplenty, character choices are everywhere, and there's LOTS of depth to your companions.
Only things I really don't like is the encumbrance mechanic and the severe lack of mobility most of the characters have in combat.
Overall though, Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a solid 8/10 so far, and I'm hooked. We'll see how it goes as I continue.

Haven't gotten to the kingdom aspect of it yet. I assume that'll be much later in the game, since it's definitely not gonna end once you defeat the Stag Lord (the bandit king that you've been sent to hunt). That's just the end of the first act, I would imagine.

Dungeon Siege II did this really well with potions you could get by walking through those blue/red bushes, and what size potions you got depended on your ranger's potion-making specialization level. I always overleveled that and was just swimming in high-level potions.

Some people would recommend enchanting a weapon with divine for the catacombs but I personally never did it, I never found the damage tradeoff of ascensions worth my time and resources and I just went with a normal weapon for all my playthroughs of DS1 and only really used the powders for enchanting whenever a boss or something had a specific weakness I knew about

"worth the effort" also depends a lot on how well you're able to handle the fights and such. Like if you would die 80% of the time before reaching the caster with respawns, but only 20% without, it might pay for itself.

Not for me, I'd rather learn how to properly avoid or dispose of the skeletons and caster every time minimizing the damage taken than go through the hassle of applying the ascension (which might be detrimental later) and re-leveling up the weapon again

she's less interested in speedrunning the game than in exploring the maneuvers and different weapon characteristics and tactics.
50/50 she throws away this character before the last bosses, builds an entirely new one with a different build, and goes through again. (She dumped her first character shortly after doing the skeletons the first time IIRC.)

ok so you seem to be knowledgeable about DS ... sometimes when my wife is fighting basilisks, her curse meter is only like half-size and fills up much more quickly. Is that a game mechanic like she's not using the right gear, or a bug? (She just fought them, died and got cursed with a shrunken curse meter that really surprised me, went right back after using a purging stone, and curse meter was twice the size the second time so didn't come close to filling up.)

Yeah, the premise is not incoherent, this isn't the first time something like this has happened, the name is overly long though and I wish it was shorter
Unlike Gotham Knights this game DOES take place after Arkham Knight and in the same universe so unless they come out and say that it's actually not part of the Arkhamverse I expect people to be upset that the game won't have the same quality of gameplay or writing as Arkham Asylum/City/Knight
