I'm waiting for a big sale
im great at heckling
Right now it's 15 dollars, and it's more of a ten dollar game
How dare you
yeah I'm out of ideas on the graveyard, this must be for after I get some other exploration abilities
Laughs in Red March
I (con)fused Soviet March and Hell March so let's just say it's both
You triple fused Soviet March, Hell March and Red Alert
And that is a mistake I also often make
Too strong to be contained
They are like, all red, communism, so it works
man i didn't know you could put LED highlights in your hair
I thought the nose was the mouth
I have no idea what side of the planet I'm on anymore or what happened to my health bar but I'm not dead yet

ok red does mean explosive
HP's min and max value become the same
I'll keep exploring

It's a great area, one of my favourites for sure
Purple crystals be shiny tho
Foxes like shiny, right?
I don't even remember what my first playthrough route was, what the "normal" progression is supposed to be.
It’s actually genius, but I can’t say it since spoilers.
This game has a really neat feature where if you die against a boss and lowered its health by 70%, you get 70% of the essence reward
That way you can spend it on leveling up for just the extra edge you need
Looks like a neat game
oh yeah, that's one of the ones I almost bought today before settling on Tunic
This boss remains frustrating though
Another weird feature the game has is the Will stat
Every time you die, it goes up by one
If you finish the game with over a hundred you unlock a different ending
Other than that, it does nothing!
I've seen my fair share of, let's say, "unorthodox" stats, that's certainly unique. And less a stat than a counter, could be hidden and it wouldn't change anything because players would learn what triggers an ending vs another, always have always will.
(What does HST stand for btw?)
Haste. Makes you faster https://i.imgur.com/NajQ97x.png
Ah
I'm all for, again, "unorthodox" stats, esoteric even. I've always liked a "Luck" stat in games where you can't exactly pinpoint how big of a benefit it is but you can't help but want more luck.
Every boss has a "Heroic" version that's a lot stronger. The first time you kill a heroic boss you lose 35 will
Can't think of other examples right now, tho
either I'm missing something really obvious or this game badly needs another checkpoint or two, that's the third time I died in one hit after ~five minutes of just running back here
Is Tunic not the sort of game where you everyone misses every obvious thing?
I'm not watching but you're probably not missing anything. Checkpoints and rest spots are sparse because Tunic is a hard game, it just lures you into a false sense of security by being cute.
I mean they weren't sparse before
The early game is more friendly, true
The Purple Area, to not give it another name, is definitely unforgiving, one of the most
Same for Graveyard
yeah, if they put a checkpoint here I'd keep at it, but this is wasting far too much time each attempt for more experimenting to make any sense
thankfully there is one other area I know of to try next
Oh, I think I know what's going on but it would be spoilers.
lol, forest fortress has a proper checkpoint in the very first room
why are the other two areas even accessible
The Holy Cross guides the way
Git gud
I was gud in the graveyard but nothing there could be activated
should have gitten gudder
Fair. In the case of Tunic "Git gud" is mostly knowledge you don't have yet.
In the mean time you're just a git
(ironically, it also is in most of the games that use that meme)
Not Hollow Knight
(ignoring that it's the game's job to make the gud getting part fun)
gud gitting*
right lol
i will beat that horse until Dark Souls fans shut the fuck up about difficulty.
so like in 80 years
oh boy this is a lot of spiders
r/spiderbro
Nature's hydraulic system
the git gud meme
mainly to mock Dark Souls fans who think that easier difficulties in games invalidate their egos.
Is it the 4 on 1?
ffffff bombs don't work in water, how dare the game make sense like that
Eggcelent
meanwhile i can have ego on things that require rng and not like
bashing your head against a brick wall for 60 hours
Thwarted by the expectations not met in the past
Dark Souls does not require you to bash your head against a break wall for more than one hour
You should be moving to other brick walls
oh I did, my DS1 experience was spending 2-3 hours ruling out every brick wall available until I gave up on all of them
Why is it so dark
That sucks
Let me check
so you know that meme about spiders being more afraid of you than you are of them
these 5 literally are
Give them a hug
🕷️
Looks like it's been 11 months since I played Tunic myself, so...
ooooh they were waiting until I turned my back on them
clever girls, but I was too prepared
ngl, I’m looking forward for lxrec reactions
Tunic is that kind of game
I gave up on my counter of "What do you mean that was [an option] the whole time" halfway through the game
ok that was unironically one of my favorite fights of the game so far
10/10 spider AI
Is it the type of game where you learn an ability and can come back to solve something, or you always had access to it, just didn't know what button to press/what action to do?
I assume the latter
Tunic almost made me give up by the halfway point.
but I'm too early to be sure, and there were plenty of examples of the former already
Both
Tunic is a game where recovering the manual pages and looking at them is more important than acquiring items or clearing areas.
I can not stress this enough ^
I spent at least half my gameplay paused, looking at the in-universe manual
if anyone doubted, I have already read every legible word of it at least twice
I only stopped trying to reverse-engineer the conlang due to the lack of phrases with a clear enough meaning to start from
I still think Tunic's manual should just be in Japanese
well, mine half is
And yes. The fake-language is a crafted-language and decipherable.
The Rosetta Stone of the language is a late acquisition on a normal playthrough, if I remember right. I think it's fair to warn people not to waste too much time on it until they get it.
Just try to make sense of what you have basically.
And only after you get it, I firmly advice to just look up the solution if you don't want to be a 0.01% hardcore gamer
Oddly enough I got a few without looking up the solutions.
There was only one that I absolutely had to.
I need that confused fox as a sticker
you got it boss
Tunic is a game any fox afficionado should play, just get to it
There's probably a Discord server for your needs in this situation, tho
the manual is full of sticker candidates
I have like 3 fox related games on my wishlist
The manual is pure charm and cuteness
checks his list
I just realized I had a map for this sub-area only after I was 70% done with it

Listen
ahh dang it, it didn't select the white paper properly.
The true ending has two foxes dancing
Is that worth 29 euros?
(Joke, not peer pressure)
Ah, just those two
Maybe someone will one day make a fox version of Stray.
Tunic's in my top 20 of my wishlist, which is usually what I exchange game codes for but no one's gone for that yet
Where you just jump into burrowed rabbit dens
I think that's kinda what those two are, Lost Ember kinda
🦊
It's been almost a year since I played it, if Flitter doesn't have it yet it has not gone on a good sale since. But the game is also not a year old yet.
(I literally have a collection of fox figurines and little statuettes and stuff)
The right time always comes
And plushies
It's twice as expensive
I took a calculated risk, but man am I bad at math.jpg
I need this in my life.
I mean, it deserves it, the developer too.
(These are just a few, I don't have pictures of everything)
just beat Trial of the Sword 😎
And the plush in the centre of the first pic is as old as I am
So you got the fully upgraded Master Sword, the best pickaxe in the game?
Yeah but now I can't afford it
Not in my region
I rely on Steam regional discounts
It's twice as expensive at GOG
yikes
Yeah, I know. Both are valid
But yeah I rely on a GOG copy mainly because Steam client bogs down my machine.
That's weird
Well its a Mac translating an x86_64 app to ARM, so yeah its not too weird
I want the guy that made Tunic to get as much money as possible and I want the people that want to play tunic to get it a price that's good for them, they're not exclusive.
It's just the game list https://i.imgur.com/U5qNAFp.png
Master Sword is pretty often used to cut trees and mine ores because it never breaks
Small mode kinda works better but its still sorta janky having to get to the store.
why would I use the Master Sword for that
That's fair
Because it doesn't break
but i want to use the Master Sword to defeat the bad guys not chop down trees
It can do both
It's not a xor
Small mode became more popular once Steam updated to the electron launcher
I've been using small mode for a while, it's nice when you don't need to do anything other than launch a game you've already installed, which at least for me is the more common case
It still uses the old tech
There is so much legacy stuff on the Steam client, you can still find remnants of the og client.
I just wished Valve would bother updating the app to make it compatible for my machine, but they only did that for the Steamworks API and sort of just forgot about it.
But yeah I'll give small mode another shot.
When I want to launch a game without bothering with steam I just right-click the tray icon, but I admit it's very rare for me to play something that is not in my 5 most recents. Usually I play stuff until I'm done forever.
I also recommend https://playnite.link
It's a customizable launcher that aggregates and launches games from any store directly
Yeah, I was recommending it in general
Michaelsoft Binbows
This joker recommends Biomutant
Biomutant was one of the biggest videogame flops of the decade
Does it have foxes?
Not because it was bad, from what I recall, it just didn't do anything interesting
What the hell? Small mode gets disabled if you uninstall a game.
Biomutant has foxes
That's new.
Oh they got rid of the old uninstall menu
That explains it.
So now you do it through large mode
But hold on
Aww, they changed the batch uninstall window too
It sucks now
Batch install is still good
I took Xash3D-emscripten and improved it a bit, next thing I want to add is loading game files from a local folder, give it a try!
Half-Life for your web browser.
it works, but resolution changes are a bit funny
(by default, the window appears squished until you change video modes manually in the options)
this is what it looks like in fullscreen 😛
now they should make a raytraced version in the browser XD
I wonder if it works for Safari now, hang on a sec.
wait does this work on mobile
oh god
There is no audio, no animations.
They're probably using .ogg
It does work but you can't tap anything so you're stuck at the menu.
hello Gordon!
Another day, another dollar!
I mean don't act surprised, the Xash devs hate Apple and downright dropped support for it... but the web version of this is a different developer so its up to them if they want to make touch controllers.
I'm assuming they just didn't include any mobile support at all
because I imagine if android worked then so would ios
There is a native android port.
iOS & Mac is simply excluded because OpenGL deprecation, Notarization requirement, 32bit dropped, and App Store tactics
I meant the web version
I do remember actually managing to play half life on ios a while back though
but yah that was a very old version of xash
oh
But yeah, I don't expect Safari to exist for much longer.
Oof already found a terrible bug, if you squish the bugs the web client hangs.
Descent tournament stream is up: https://www.twitch.tv/roncli
Wow. It's been at least 25 years since I last had a thought about Descent
An amazing, superior, groundbreaking game
I remember playing Descent and feeling my mind literally expanding like
. That's so rare.
my wife and I named all 3 of our kids after Descent players, including the one who is mosts likely to win today's tournament
Why?
#Tunic: took me 10-20 tries but I defeated Siege Engine, also with zero health remaining
Nice work!
I'm like 80% of the way through Death's Gambit and I finally unlocked the ability to teleport between rest spots.
This should be something you get at the start
I've also convinced myself the conlang is not just a substitution cipher for the English alphabet (or rather, if it is, then the game manual is improbably low in "e"s) so no point overanalyzing it further for now
why did we name our kids after Descent players? Because they're all good friends
Seems like an odd choice to name kids after friends but it's understandable
we specifically didn't want to name kids after family members, because I grew up dealing with "which John?" all the time between my brother, dad, and grandpa
Yeah. This happens a lot here, and the solution is usually to give them nicknames
once in high school we ended up with three Erics in the same class, so everyone learned to address us by our middle names
As I said, don't waste time on a puzzle before you're able to solve it. Once you get the Rosetta Stone of the language (page 28 or 29 of the "manual") you can actually try sit down and decipher the whole language.
And it's doable, with those pages everything is in reach. But it's up to dedication, time and effort. That's why I said don't be afraid to look up the solution, only you can decide what puzzles you solve yourself and which you don't
yep, I just realized I had a "quick" way of checking that assumption so I figured why not
(p28-9 are the map of the overworld and under-the-well)
I guess I remembered the numbers wrong. In my mind the manual is 30 pages and 28-29 was the end of it. Now that I think about it it's probably double. 58-59 might be the accurate last pages.
conveniently, I just found the table of contents
Because each page has two sides it fucks up with my personal count
Since it's your first playthrough and you're going through it in what feels like a natural way; you have nothing to worry about. Deciphering the language only matters if you want the 100% ending.
wbat is the most common name pn earth
Wang
Play as you feel natural. The point of Tunic has always been to stumble your way into a victory and then, through replays, realise how the game is bigger and bigger.
don't worry, I'm still finding stuff
I spent way more time on that boss than on the language check just now
China's population is bonkers
John or Muhammad
tbf you probably didn't mean to include surnames
Apparently Omar is more popular than Mohammed
James, Maria
I don't know name stats well enough to say what's technically the most popular by what metric in any more detail
oh yea i meant first names
literally Silent Hill 2
Ah James might be more for english speaking areas
Explore the most popular first names in the world.
What's the dumbest name on earth?
No it's Flitter
Pepsi Marijuana
hahahaha, of all the ways to find a new route
a bird running away from me in terror wandered through a hidden passage
oh god I just recognized a word in the conlang when I wasn't even trying to analyze it
||it could be an English substitution cypher with the Arabic thing where the letters change shape depending on position in the word... but I'm stopping there for now, even if that's right I'd need to id more words to make use of it||
I think I need a hint; I've failed to open up any new areas since Siege Engine, only a handful of new chests adjacent to places I've already been, and I'm running out of ideas better than banging my head against Quarry again
the manual ToC implies ruined atoll is next but there's still no way into that area
...I am an idiot
No, you’re a horse.
(You forgot the W in rainbow.
)

tunic gud
so i went to my local fighting game community meetup. sucked, but 50 percent of that was because i was too shy to say ANYTHING
too many people, not enough games, everyone was playing granblue which i had never even touched before, the guy who invited me acted like he didn't know me
im pretty disappointed, might not go back again

damn, that sucks, fighting game locals can be a tough environment to be in, they're not for everyone, doesn't help that person who invited you didn't give you a welcome to others in person
if you ever happen to be in phoenix, arizona I could show you around to my fight game local
sadly im basically on the other side of the nation. but i really appreciate you saying that.
like nobody was being an asshole, just... they didn't want to even speak to me. only give me brief glances.
hmmmm, I'm just guessing from the others point of view, but you mentioned people playing granblue vs, was that the only game being played? Sometimes people just want to grind out games so the thought doesn't occur when they see a new face that they want to be involved or when a new person shows around and doesn't say anything, they might come across as onlookers rather than potential participators.
I am guilty of this a lot more than I'd like to be, especially when someone is hovering around a game that I don't play at the local
granblue was the vast majority, GGST was the other one being played casually
I see what you mean now: out of every quarry entrance I could have possibly found, I found the one farthest away from every checkpoint (though I still think it'd be better with another checkpoint)
damn, granblue and strive, sounds like a fate worse than death. Do you know if the local uses a discord or sometime of forum? Maybe doing some online talk and seeing how those members vibe can help the shyness part.
im in the discord
and they speak very little aside from communicating for meetups and such.
damn, that sucks, sounds a lot less active than my local that's for sure
too bad i dont live in phoenix 😔

SEIZURE WARNING: ...
TF2 fans really out here making full blown horror movies with technically abandonware
I'll be sure to provide a detailed analysis of it after I watch it sometime in the next four years or so
as valve said, the fans make better shit than they do. its why they dont update TF2 like they should.
breaking into a new group of people especially as an introverted, timid, or shy person is extremely hard especially if you're anxious or tend to think the worst in social scenarios, I'm sure the person who invited you didn't intentionally ignore you, otherwise why would they invite you at all? They clearly wanted you there
You don't have to force yourself to go there if you don't particularly enjoy the games played there or the vibes feel weird, but you shouldn't also immediately think the worst of people or not give it another try because that's just going to make social situations worse
maybe search for a different place if there is any where you live
I'll put it on my watch later playlist and proceed to never watch it
there's a fully blown Esports arena in another part of the city but they mostly do super smash bros and i dont like that game very much.
i like Strive and Street Fighter.
The play is real
the general atmosphere was basically like, it was the same pair of people playing for long periods of time even outside of the tournament bracket, and most of the time it was just people kinda shuffling around and watching these people hog the stations playing the same damn characters
i could tell people were just there to grind.
i just wanted to fucking fight people and have a good time, not have everyone treat it like they were just at home but they invited their introverted friends over to ignore eachother.
turns out I like this game
although some of that time is leaving it running while I do a quick chore
anyway, one more boss by the skin of my teeth
oh boy... someone's gonna get a good laugh out of this: ||I only just noticed that I never picked up the red hexagon, because the thingy the boss dropped I misunderstood as granting me the power of teleportation, since I discovered teleportation only moments after getting it||
game's uh.... game's that good huh
Quarry is hard regardless, but it seems a lot harder when you don't have all the knowledge, or you don't know about Pray
especially if you fall for ||the troll checkpoint|| like I did
Nothing worse than a game making you regret a checkpoint
"Fuck I gotta walk this shit back"
And by "worse" I mean "funnier"
well I certainly would've been mad if I'd died after discovering that and before getting to the rope
I actually watched this last night before heading to bed. Probably a bad idea, lol. Honestly, some parts of it were too much for me, and I'll freely admit that I turned away from the screen at points and muted other parts. I'm really squeamish and overly-sensitive about fear and scary imagery, and that's why I don't like horror movies.
That being said, I pressed onwards, and I will say, the production values of the entire film were amazing, and the scope and storytelling were great too (by this I mean that their ability to tell a story through words, imagery, body language, etc.). The only thing that brings it down for me is that the plot itself is way too complex and also way too confusing to tell what is real and what is imaginary (which I suppose is the point, given that it's a psychological horror/thriller film). I still have no clue what I watched or even what the point of it all was.
Still, since it's made like a movie and is being treated as such, I will rate it as one: 7.5/10, a good if confusing film, will never watch again, especially not at night.
i might watch it but i also might wait for the inevitable 5 hour analysis
you know a game is fairly balanced when the part that was kicking your butt last night gets easily finished in a single attempt after a good night's sleep
I love the graveyard
Specially the end
It also has the inarguably best pick up of the game
the actual graveyard part was blissfully quick considering I already picked the area clean of loot
Yeah I guess I mean the mausoleum more than the graveyard. Graveyard is still fun but it's the former that really ties the whole area together and makes it shine
Mausoleum, cathedral, I can't recall what it really is right now
I haven't checked it in English but daiseidou (big holy hall) is probably cathedral
(for a long time I thought that page of the manual was talking about the library)
🙏 Holy Cross 🙏
yeaaaaaah eat turret you OP wraiths
(if it's actually possible to fight those things "fairly" please don't tell me yet)
I think turrets are still my most hated enemy

And by fun I mean !!FUN!!?
I think it took me three tries, maybe four

The green thing splits when it hits something, so it's already splitting when hitting that boss. THat orange to purple circle on the right is him summoning about 20-30 minions... so my green blade then splits on all of those :3
this is what i imagine endwalker raids are like
is this Touhou
Touhou
Oh this is mean.
That floating cube is a treasure chest, and that portal leads to the next floor of the dungeon
And I can't return unless I do several floors of this again.
I think it was 3 for me too, and yeah it was a lot more fun than I feared, especially after I realized the one actual boss ||was duplicated||
The real boss of that moment is not even the boss, it's the flying round
anyway I'm checking chat again now because I just learned ||she has a phase two
||

in retrospect I'm actually really pleased ||I still got a third of her health down||
some of the groups I solved by doing a lot of kiting, and the fliers were the most extreme case because I could reliably trick them into mostly shooting each other; it looked very scary but wasn't hard after that
oh and they dropped magic, so I had no reason not to snipe half a dozen myself
Yeah if you figure out how you can take the fliers round in a chill way
improvement
Lol
You deny your weapon its purpose!
Congrats. That should be the any% ending
yep, ||Successor dissipates, we get locked into the triple bestagon prison; extremely reminiscent of the main/default cycle-perpetuating endings of HK and DS ||
Yep
nice, the game explicitly tells me "you're missing 3 pages"
Only 3? wow
yeah I did a lot of exploration before attempting this boss
Well, one is a given, but I expected more for a first-time
not just to get all 6 hero power ups
and yes that included figuring out ✨ THE HOLY CROSS ✨
On a second (and so forth) playthrough you have the benefit of knowledge, like the Holy Cross. In terms of order I remember going || To graveyard first, for the dash||
Then there's also getting all the gold idols
the main thing I know I haven't figured out yet is ||after casting the search magic, what do I do at the places it highlights||
but for now I'll probably revisit everywhere looking for holy cross doors
oh, and wtf happened to the ||gold broom???|| after I found it
...and the scribbles on page 22
anyway I've got leads lol
that's... not what I was looking for
Is...
||Is that the Pringles mascot?||
I actually did put that on my watch later and intended to never watch it like I said
but now I'm curious and I might give it a watch for shits and giggles
TF2's content creators are insanely good and skilled it's literally not even funny
.... why didn't i play this sooner
also speaking of horror say what you want about FNAF currently but in the beginning it was damn good at horror, I don't think any of the subsequent fnaf games really capture the uneasiness and grounded feel of the first game, something about it
https://youtu.be/fJIhjGSD3-0
also if a child was born when FNAF first released they'd be 9 years old now
and I don't know how to cope with that knowledge
It feels remarkably more grounded and real than any of the other FNAF games to me
personally i feel it kept that feel until Sister Location
even the visuals
a lot of people dislike it but i love how green and grimy FNAF 3 is. it feels like a cheap horror attraction at a theme park that could burn down at any minute (which it does)
which is what it's supposed to convey so i guess Scott succeeded lol
I funnily enough think FNAF 3 is scarier than FNAF 2
me too!
well
there's certain bits of 2 that really creep me out (Marionette, all of the Atari minigames) but i think FNAF 3 is creepier the more you think about it
something about FNAF 2's visuals and the fact that there's so much shit going on in that game makes it somehow less scary to me
FNAF 3 has other shit going on too but it's also mainly 'just' Springtrap
this is the kinda shit you have nightmares about
I see you have found him
Springtrap is probably the best animatronic design in the series
like
his entire concept feels exactly like an 80s slasher villain lol
it's awesome
I'm honestly not even considering all the lore or whatever in this entire conversation I'm going off purely off of visuals and gameplay alone
then he turned into Scraptrap in FNAF 6 😔
I don't think it's an unpopular opinion that the lore in FNAF 1 was pretty cool and minimalist to fit the whole indie game feel and then it started getting too big for its boots until we got whatever the fuck Security Breach is supposed to be
yeah
series should have ended at UCN imo
but i guess Help Wanted was cool
the Afton storyline def should have ended at UCN
I wouldn't know exactly when FNAF 'should' have ended mostly because I gave up on the lore years ago but I don't think it ever could have been a franchise meant for going on longer than a handful of games at most, kinda wish Scott had branched out and did other stuff rather than keeping FNAF going
im looking forward to the movie and FNAF Plus
They're making a movie?
I didn't even know there was ever going to be a movie lol I can't exactly say I'm giddy at the thought of it
fnaf + is looking to be pretty good I just hope they don't go too hard in trying to make it scary since the appeal of the original was that the entire thing looked pretty harmless and not intentionally scary or grotesque
(Wcct, I just found THE page
)
Matthew Lillard is playing William Afton which is neat
more games in his JRPG series would have been real nice, The Desolate Hope's battles were AWESOME
super fast paced RPG games are very cool
Pretty bangin music, but nobody uploaded this song to YouTube, and it's a real doozy to find; so I've decided to take matters into my own hands.
The original song is "Running Scared" by Wesley Divine
try and keep up with it, cuz i know even i can't sometimes
isn't fnaf world kinda like an rpg?
yes
because that footage is reminding me of fnaf world
I also vaguely remember some actual lore coming from that game lol
I like that you can tell this is Scott's work from the 3d renders which look exactly like the FNAF ones
Scott has a very distinctive style
I have to say I have no fucking idea what is happening in that footage
this puts the craziest jrpgs to shame
i remember in second semester of 7th grade i used Desolate Hope wallpapers because i wanted to use FNAF ones but my mom didn't like FNAF and i didnt want to get in trouble so i used DH as cover
I'm still coping with the fact that kids grew up with fnaf and are now adults
i also obsessively played Chipper and Sons but never got to the end
the game has zero replayability and doesn't really have anything to do once you finish it but it's a great journey regardless
I can't believe Slenderman Eight Pages released only two years before FNAF
feels like an entire ass generation passed between those two games
oh man the Slenderman/creepypasta tumblr dark times were something
i remember being shown Slenderman in like late 2013 and then a few months later the stabbing happened
god
the Slenderman movie is such garbage
if you want a live action Slenderman thing just watch Marble Hornets
one of the perpetrators is in a mental institution because she had schizophrenia I think and the other who I guess didn't but still went through with it is under supervision until her 40s
yep
I know it wasn't about the stabbing but it was done afterwards which isn't great
Why must you remind me?
holy cow Slenderman (2018) has a whopping 8% on Rotten Tomatoes
that's 8% too high if you ask me
but yes watch Marble Hornets it's amazing
What's funny is it's not gonna reach status of "cult classic" like other horrible movies like it
I can feel confident saying that
(Slenderman that is)
yea
That's because it's not funny bad it's just bad and boring
Manos is fucking hilarious and entertaining
Sale on mystery games
It's bad enough to gain the "ew that movie was fucking awful" notation, but not bad enough for people to watch it ironically and enjoying how bad it is, i.e. the room

Return of the Obra Dinn is a fantastic game

My biggest recommendation is for Tangle Tower.
But anyone who might enjoy mystery solving games with cool aesthetics even a little bit should play it

Obra Dinn was made by the same person who made Papers Please so I already know it's good
God it's such a good game
The type of game you can only experience once for the first time, and I know that sounds ridiculous to say but it makes sense once you play it, you never get that same feeling again as when you first unravel the story and all the twists
Giving me "Broken Age" vibes with that aesthetic

Ah, I think I see what you mean
nightcore is a gift from the gods
it stimulates the adhd brain
and the brain is pleased
I used to like Nightcore a lot when I was around your age
I could never stand Nightcore
why is it caled nightcore
It's just a pair of dudes who picked the name for their dance music remix group
The name Nightcore means "we are the core of the night, so you'll dance all night long", stated in its website named "Nightcore is Hardcore".
Literally ''Hardcore to the mega!''

Disco Elysium fans will get that reference
the funny thing is that the Nightcore dudes didn't even technically ''invent'' Nightcore
they were influenced by a similar style from before
I think if you showed a nightcore edit to a person in like the 50s they'd have an aneurysm
It's just speeding up audio and inserting percussion so youtube doesn't copyright strike the video
(also pitch shifting but that's a side effect of speeding up)
uh they had Alvin and the Chipmunks in the 1950s they would be fine
Alvin and the Chipmunks only have high pitched voices
ok true

bet if you showed this to a victorian child they would die on the spot

is this considered nightcore
https://youtu.be/vMHK1Psognk
What's the original?
Too much percussion
why do we have to have like 20 trillion different cores can't we just have one
because that's not how genres and styles work
Because if we don't, there would be no nightcore
i hate genres
things evolve and change and branch out

Oh hell, +1 to Zircon rec.
Glad someone else knows them.
Zircon is prolific and excellent
that was pretty good
Are they prolific now? I was following him back when he was an obscure OCRemix artist in the late 2000s. Seen his wife in a video game concert once. But I haven’t seen anyone ever mention them in years
Well he makes videogame music now instead of just remixes

Yes, because you usually drop games the moment you finish the story
I mean there's lots of games that have missable/optional achievements which I have several of
e.g. if we skip over all of the 100%s, then the top games are these, all of which I liked enough to make an effort to do extra stuff in
Yeah
In many cases it takes a lot of effort to get every single achievement. That's why I have all but one in a bunch of them

watching Game Grumps play PT and man, fuck Konami for cancelling Silent Hills, this shot is amazing
...god that is tempting
Man, fuck Konami. Their pullout from the games industry was wild.
While also deciding to hold onto their IPs that they’re just basically only going to use on pachinko machines forever
i know i keep harping on about a game that was cancelled over 8 years ago, but like, this had so much potential
im not even a SH fan
it's not just you, we all wanted this
Star Wars 1313 had great potential too.
But it got turned into a TV show instead
and then Signalis existed so I'm good for probably another several years
"hey we had Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro making a Silent Hill game for us and the teaser for it was critically acclaimed so idk why don't we just cancel it and make a goddamn slot machine or something"
Well
i keep hearing about Signalis but none of the YouTubers that I watch are playing it and it sounds like a game i would rather watch than play
i know
It's an unfortunate casualty of the war between Kojima and Konami at the time
It wasn't the right time to start making a Silent Hill game
To me it sounds like Konami was in the wrong in that feud
horror in general is a thing lots of people would rather watch than play and that's extremely reasonable
there's a lot I watched SGS play that I don't intend to ever play myself
Kojima was burning through Konami's entire budget
im a huge FNAF fan yet have never finished a single one of those
did he create a really good engine that Konami ultra shelved because all of the people who know how to operate it are gone now? sure, but he still burned through a lot of Konami's budget
they're actually coming back somewhat
they're going to be in e3
mgs remake copium
Konami was also going through a transition period of sorts where they were starting to pour more money into mobile games
I don't have any faith on Konami anymore so you're not gonna see me excited or hoping for a new MGS game much less a remake anytime soon lol
Even the new stuff that I think looks kinda cool I don't have much faith on until I'm proven wrong
I never followed this drama in detail, I just bought Death Stranding when I was in the mood for... let's call it an "auteur game"
goddd i wanna play DS so bad
oh?
You should've snagged it on Epic
Ah, fair enough
what interests you about DS exactly
Kojima
I hope once I upgrade my pc I might be able to play it, I always wanted to
Seems like the type of game I'd enjoy
would it make sense to recommend a heavily edited let's play slash review and commentary thing for DS?
hmm perhaps
i dont know anything about the game except that Norman Reedus has a fetus that does something for him and he's also a mailman and drinks Monster energy drinks
The most accurate description of the game is that it's an Amazon delivery simulator /j

like how kojima predicted modern internet in mgs2, kojima predicted the pandemic in DS
he predicted way more than 'modern internet' in mgs2
it's a literal nostradamus level prediction of how information and misinformation and history and culture itself is controled nowadays
what's with the fetus
so for anyone who's curious enough to spend multiple hours on Death Stranding but is unable to or wouldn't enjoy actually playing through it all themselves, I highly recommend this >7 hour let's play slash review slash analysis, which is still only a fraction of the time it takes to actually play the game, and IMO it touches on every significant part of the experience and was completely fair in assessing all of its best and worst parts:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zg2Y5rxlg-M

Death Stranding is a real video game made by Hideo Kojima, in cas...
play the game and find out
this will be a good video for a lazy afternoon someday, to the watch later playlist it goes
also do you get to see Norman Reedus' butt in Death Stranding
I forget exactly how much is visible in which scenes but meh
what's with the fetus or is that a spoiler
not so much a spoiler as half the story
o
it would literally be faster to start watching the video, the bridge baby shows up early
Oh. I am disappoint that they missed a golden opportunity to call that video "Understranding"
All this reminds me of one of my favourite bits from a podcast with my favourite two streamers where they accurately predict/mimic the stupid levels of Kojima antics with pinpoint accuracy

god I had forgotten about this stupid fucking picture where Kojima PRETENDS HE'S SMOKING A CIGARRETTE
it feels so weird seeing Sam and Cliff just sitting there "in real life"
I'm on an inbetween state where I see Norman and I immediately think ''oh it's Daryl/Sam''
I also think it's the funniest shit that Norman completely leaked the fact that DS2 is a thing on an interview
he just nonchalantly reveals that DS2 is totally a thing that's happening

I played the game but I'll gladly watch this, I am sure there are nuances I must have missed in the whole thing, the game is huge and complicated
it was totally unrelated but related to his acting career
how well did DS1 do actually? I never got a feel for whether it was a sequel shoe-in or not
I don't think Kojima is the type of guy to care about that
If he wants to make a sequel he's going to do it
I mean...it was the 1st kojima game after MGS, it would have done good even if it was a pong clone
yeah seeing the whole story in "only" 7 hours also makes it a lot easier to see connections than when you just spent all your brainpower plotting a route through the mountains
but if you wanna know by july of 2021 it apparently sold 5 million copies
he doesn't and that's partly the reason why Konami pretty much made his life hell so he would quit lol
(also I want ZoE 3
)
Hell yeah
Goddamn this OST slaps to this day
they pivoted to horse plinko and never looked back
except for all that new silent hill stuff, somehow that's happening
Konami saw how good Capcom was doing and went ''hey we can do that too!''
oh yeah that song's in my library
whether or not they will be able to provide only time will tell
(I know most of you own thousands of VGM tracks but I don't generally like VGM outside of its game, even the themes, so that's unusual)
Second Runner is a great game
Fuck I should replay it
man if konami can somehow do a comeback like capcom did then I'll eat my hat
I really should replay it too, it's one of my all-time favorites
also true
Konami straight up never really gave a shit about its fans or its IPs at all
Capcom at least seemed like they were trying and being communicative
but I think my brain is not in twitch skill mood atm, I still haven't gotten back to my Ninja Gaiden replay which is also an all-time fav
ZOE was at some point, one of my favourite things in the universe
konami just seemed hilariously like a supervillain at the time
decision after decision...
Having watched a playthrough of the first game recently, it does not hold to inspection
especially those final Anubis fights, I still don't understand how I was able to beat those, felt more like an out of body experience watching an anime in some places
yeah I've played ZoE 1 and it's nothing special, 2's the one everyone needs to try
I own this model too, and I love it.
Also even with all that, the crotch cockpit still look really silly
ok yes but we don't talk about that
what is that?
It's named a cockpit, not a headpit
It makes zero sense, it's such an exposed position for the pilot
And I have no zero doubt that it was Kojima decision
I certainly can't recall seeing any other mecha thing go with that design
Zone of the Enders looks interesting
he's so cool
yeah IIRC it was block and dodge but no parry
(there's enough other stuff going on it hardly needs it)
I remember some mechanic to retaliate, me and my friends played a lot of versus mode at the time
ah, I never had anyone to try versus with
It was couch co-op on the PS2 at the time
this reminds me of that secret minigame in only the ps2 versions of mgs3, it's a super basic dmc clone and I remember it was allegedly a prototype/concept for ZoE3 but I can't remember if it was ever confirmed or stated officially
https://youtu.be/w1LIylZ8VaM
This is an extended look at the nightmare sequence only present in the PlayStation 2 versions of Metal Gear Solid 3.

@Nitroid They actually confirmed that Guy Savage was based on a prototype for a cancelled version of ZOE3/Anubis 2 during a public discussion in TGS 2011 back when they were promoting the ZOE HD Collection.
They also talked about various earlier drafts for ZOE1.
https://t.co/PW7VMs9gru
If you meant the crotch cockpit, the Orbital Frames in ZOE have the pilot seat in a very silly position.
what even is an optimal position to reasonably put a pilot of a giant robot in?
I mean. ideally someplace armored
IME the standard answer is the torso or the head, depending on how giant they are exactly and how important fitting in other stuff is
Jutting the weakpoint of the whole thing forward doesn't seem like a reasonable idea
You kinda stop seeing it after 50 hours, and after 100 it actually somehow looks cooler than normal
the Kojima effect
I assume that was his intention, to incept us crotch cockpits
as long as we're on the silly parts
''the crotch cockpit is integral to the narrative of the game I assure you''
I feel like I never got a top rank score on the city defense level, that they spawn too far apart to prevent all damage; was that your experience?
Listen...are you asking me the score on a level of a game that I played more than 15 years ago?

ok did the level always end with you character beating himself up for not saving enough people
This was ZOE1 right?
oh no I'm talking 2
Oh, I remember Leo being a bitch, but not the other dude
it's a relatively early mission, mostly little spider-y enemies crawling on the ground that you can flip over
I'm awful at names no matter how much I like the thing
except Jehuty and Anubis, I remembered them immediately
Dingo is worth forgetting as a name
storytelling wasn't the strong suit anyway
I actively regret looking it up
I did like how it explain the jump in capabilities of the jeuthy between the two games tho
In the 1st game it's piloted by a random untrained kid, in the 2nd by an already experienced pilot
ah, I played them so far apart I didn't pick up on that
I do remember on a past replay trying really hard at the unwinnable boss fight, and scoring a respectable number of hits
oh wow you can tell this is a Kojima Prod. game
down to the same fonts and interface style used in MGS2
ah the naritas
such a great default enemy, if you get lazy/greedy they will kick your ass even in the later levels
Oh btw, this model is based on my favourite weapon in videogames to this date.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drjn9aBqKOw
Took a bit of fiddling and research into the PS2 game, and some abuse playing VR modes I shouldn't be able to. But I managed to get all the weapons working.
In memory, it's a 2 byte value. The list of weapons goes as follows:
0 GRAB
1 GEYSER
2 COMET
3 GAUNTLET
4 DECOY
5 V CANNON
6 H.MISSILE
7 WISP
8 F.MINE
9 0 SHIFT
10 PHALANX
11 HALBERD
12 M...
It's so goddamn fucking cool
when I first played it my favorite level was the armada(?) where you personally take down what felt like half a dozen star destroyers by vector cannoning their tailpipes
Yep
It's the level in which they give you the cannon I think
And it's forever burned into my memory
hi i took a nap for like a year but now im back with low quality content just like before
This video was kind of rushed and the change I made is completely unnecessary
I might continue this with other chapters if it doesn't require that much modification for each one.
anyways it probably wont be another year till my next video but who knows.
The floor is lava. This run uses double jumps from the start
that a firing animation that long never got old is impressive, even if you typically only fire it <10 times
Yeah, it's not very pratical, that said, I actively tried to find excuses to use it
So with the Pokemon DLC being announced to be released in this year, now the speculation that Switch 2 will be likely released around Holiday 2024 is quite reasonable
Oh
Oh...
This is the kind of game which traumatizes you as soon as you play the fucking tutorial

Yeah, yeah, cute art, I see you trying to soothe me from this extraordinary emotional trauma

What's that ?
I feel like this is still a year away or more
They just announced it but really showed nothing about it.
Tbh I am just happy they confirmed we will be getting a DLC at all
Eventually

Feels like for all the faults that could be levelled at Ancel when he was working on Beyond Good and Evil 2 at least stuff was being done and they had things to show off for the game, since he's gone there has been a vacuum and a whole load of nothing since.

Wow, a best game contest not won by Elden Ring
Best Use of DualSense Wireless Controller: Astro's Playroom
Well no crap it's the winner still, it's just about the only game to make use out of all the stuff crammed into that controller, when it's not being used you just end up with a slightly comfier PS4 controller with much worse battery life.
what's in there?
The adaptive triggers are used quite often
Also the speaker
The fancy haptics somewhat less so
whoa, the vanilla PS5 controller has haptics?
Yes it does, not that you'd know for how few games that have used it so far
You might need to clarify your surprise there because I’d describe any vibration as “haptics” in this context
But the PS5 controller has very fine-grained ones
I guess I mean using it to the fullest ability that the DualSense can
Good for things like raindrops
I was addressing Ixrec there
The triggers that can adjust their tension and stop points on the fly remain my favourite feature
(Though you can often hear them do it so that’s a bit weird)
Yeah, of course not every game will have a use for all of this but I guess it's more a case that Astro's Playroom winning is less of a surprise when it's essentially as much a tech demo for the controller as it is the system itself
It was the correct choice
yeah, I do hope we get a proper major Astro game at some point, though I fear if we do it'll be for PSVR2 which I just cannot justify the purchase price atm
Something i didnt think would be announced
Not sure how Elden Ring can be even a honourable mention for graphics on PS5 though as it doesn't look that great on the system, partly due to it being cross gen

I will go ahead and make the claim that the only truly interesting change between the current and previous generation of consoles is the PS5 controller.
(Which means the Xbox just did nothing. Cool shape I guess.)
*in regards to graphics capabilities
I mean there’s definitely something to be said for the graphics improvements
But bigger numbers are bigger wins zero innovation points
ER is mostly art direction, it's not very impressive on a tech standpoint
I contest this: Returnal makes great use of it.
for me we were in diminishing returns as soon as the Xbox 360 was no longer new
Returnal uses it for one very specific thing
I'm not even sure what the current gen is
Which renders it unplayable on any other controller
But I’m not sure makes it the best use
Game Pass is like the biggest thing Microsoft has brought to the table in recent times though that's just an extension of Microsoft throwing their huge wads of cash about
well, stable framerates are one thing 😛 7th gen consoles weren't known for that, and 8th gen had trouble in many games too
