Also, not a great fps, but impressive considering 32 chunk distance with no performance mods
And it sure as fuck runs better than my i7-4770 desktop without mods
Looking at ocean is similar
Every setting maxed
I can finally use 32 chunk distance at 110 FPS on my new PC š
(Minecraft's FPS limiter severely lacks granularity, I want a 117 FPS capā¦)
I still plan on upgrading to something like an i9 12900k soon for my desktop
But hey, at least my desktop can run ptgi shaders
Fairly good improvment with sodium
Now to try 2048 chunks with distant horizons
What pc do you have
Wow fuck trying to generate 2048 chunks. The fps isn't bad but generation is so slow I'd have to leave the pc on overnight.
I suppose minecraft java isn't meant to generate 2048 chunks in an instant
That moment when 2700 mb/s write and 2850mb/s read is not enough
It's not 2700 for very small write operations
The 2700 is sequential and you want random writes
Random is way, way slower than sequential
13900K + 4090
yeah, it's usually closer to 50-70 MB/s on high-end NVMe SSDs
maybe 100 MB/s if the workflow is favorable to your SSD
it's still a lot faster than HDDs (and slightly faster than SATA SSDs)
Aah makes sense
Would also make sense to why I set the world generation to use 8 cores and it doesn't really speed up
I'm gonna kill my mac storage by trying to generate 2048 chunks
You could run it on a RAMDisk or something
We goin, slowly
Perhaps
Sitting at about 600% cpu usage
So not using the entire thing
I'm not sure how to see cpu load on each core
On Macs I have no idea
htop has a macOS port: install Homebrew then run brew install htop, then run htop in a terminal
how many chunks do you need anyway?
all of them
I NEED 2048
then leaving it on over only one night seems fine to me lol
pfft yeah
Like, the game is meant to generate 16 chunks around you, not 2048, no wonder it takes so long
Sleep with my macbook fans ramped up so much would be annoying though
yep, this is the kind of thing game studios do leave running for a few days to generate a full build
Interesting
All in all though, this is very impressive for a macbook
Holly fuck I put my hand over the vent, and there is a fuckton of hot air coming out
I feel like I'm using a windows gaming laptop with this fan
Good to know the M2 chip benefits from a fan
any chip benefits from a fan. The performance difference between passively cooled and actively cooled phones is quite large, even though they use the same SoCs
this is also why most high-end phones aren't that much faster than a Switch if they're just passively cooled
I already tried that. The fans didn't even ramp up, and it was just slow.
Just couldn't use the cpu, at least with the VM I was trying
Minecraft is the first time I heard the fans at all. And it went up to max. Literally reminded me of my sister's gaming laptop.
Yeah pro
Yeah they can get loud, but its so rare.
Yeah minecraft made it ramp to 100% and stay there
Took a while after I closed minecraft for it to calm down too
ok for some reason I can't load the 256x textures
Here we go, ptgi
Okay it just doesn't work
Can't load ptgi shaders on m2
Yeah shaders are a disaster on M2
Sildur's vibrant light....
some of it is down to optimization I'm sure, but still
Don't get a macbook for gaming
Although... It did go up to 20 fps
Welp, even on the lowest shader settings without turning stuff off, it is in the 20s
My M1 Mac Mini had wildly varying results for stuff. If a game has native Metal API support or well optimised Vulcan support? You were golden, otherwise it was a crap shoot
Makes sense
I think Minecraft reports Metal but uses OpenGL.
oh
I could be wrong.
Yeah openGL on Mac is just dead
Yeah I doubt a Microsoft owned company would use an Apple API
I look at stuff like Resident Evil Village again though, and somewhat gain hope for gaming on mac
But still, I got this laptop for audio work and other laptop things I may need while out working. And partly because it makes me look professional, I admit.
The problem is the support it does get is usually funded by Apple, there isnāt enough of a market otherwise for companies to do stuff off their own backs
You know its funny, Metal is technically OpenGL but with some Vulkan components and improvements.

I will say Dolphin using Vulcan runs pretty damn well on Apple Silicon now
Yeaah that makes sense. And it sucks really. This little 13 inch thing, playing games, especially with the battery life it has, is great.
I mean hell, I played through almost all of Brutal Doom while on a 9 hour road trip some time ago
Even the likes of Aspyr have moved into ports for the Switch to supplement the money from their Mac ports
People just don't get macs for gaming
And thus, there will probably never really be a market on mac for games, since nobody is buying the games.
Its the same thing with Linux, the same cycle. Support isnāt there so therefore people donāt buy games because of the lack of support, and therefore reinforced the belief not to support the platform. Mostly like Linux.
The only difference is that its more aggressive because Apple is a company that makes people foam.
Like there is a good reason you donāt hear āI play on a Macā often.
Itās frown upon, and I donāt like that honestly. It just creates this shameful effect that is unnecessary.
Yeah
There's also the feeling among the public in general that a Mac is pretty much got the creative market cornered but little else, and Linux still has the feel of something only computer nerds/hobbyists tinker with.
This is so weird for me to finally understand this now, took me a while but Iām glad I have now.
tbf, is that feeling wrong?
i got it cause I am in the creative market
I mean if you boil these things down then no, probably not but ultimately the only way you can shake these preconceptions is taking risks, but the gaming industry, in the AAA sphere at least has never been so risk averse as it has now.
I feel like there's an unstated presumption here that we should all want some other OS to take over, but I don't know that that's true
You should use what works for you, not that one takes over.
But the market shouldnāt be dictated by one OS.

I'm more of the opinion that you should have competition as that's healthy, but for personal computers if you want to play video games well, you get a Windows PC, I'd at least like one alternative and Linux comes closest now thanks to Proton but even that has issues.
for many markets competition is the ideal situation, but in technical contexts where the network externalities (that's the fancy economics term for the "everyone needs X because everyone else uses X" cycle) are overwhelming, I'm not sure the argument holds up
I mean, in a lot of cases more competition the better, that said, it's also fair to remember that gaming on pc is already kind of mired with compatibility issues which I don't know if would get better by more platforms to have to account for during development.
The fact that there has been one viable OS might have been as much of a boon as a detriment in many ways
for something like an operating system, I think it's easier to argue the situation is one of a "natural monopoly" such as a utility company, which are usually government-run for that reason; though governments certainly aren't ready to do OS dev when they aren't even doing internet infrastructure yet (which should be a utility)
right, the usual arguments for why competition is a good thing depend on the good or service being interchangeable (among many many other things I could list if you want)
you can't "just" swap OSes the way you can "just" watch a different movie or eat different food today
It's hard to tell for me what would be the ideal solution
my serious opinion is that this is one of those places where technology advanced a lot faster than society did and we're lacking several layers of non-technical advancement to make any ideal solution feasible
It's definitely more complicated than more competition the better, I wish we had an alternative reality to peer into in which there were two concurring OS about as viable for gaming to see what would result
I do appreciate that Valve is using their de facto monopoly power to actually try doing that
(incidentally, e-shops are definitely not a natural monopoly
)

Incidentally, the government developing OS sounds like an element of a dystopian future to me so I think we will have to stick to companies for that
If you ask me
granted, corporations running the world is merely a different flavor of dystopia
it's hard to tell what would lead to what
perhaps the open source organizations we already have are pretty close to what we want, and the ideal is merely that governments fund the "critical" open source projects
(which I know some are already doing some of)
Aw Nep
here we go again
Oh shit
Makes sense
I don't think it's as damaging as some people think it is for a game like league
No one is going to be able to understand that source code.
If all the code is of the quality of their old launcher it's probably bad anyway
with most software, the source isn't really the valuable part anyway
it's the people supporting and maintaining it
One thing people can do with League source code is mock about how spaghetti it is
League code is extremely infamous for being a whole Italian restaurant
someone will fucking fix this whole game and release it
tho we will see a massive influx of cheaters now
they even got hands on valorant anti-cheat system
Maybe they can fix it lol
I know of atleast one person who's computer got damaged by that anticheat acting up
And that was last week
LoL is pretty good, I don't think it needs fixing
You can't fix the community is the problem
you can be more heavy handed on bans, i've reported people who dropped multiple hard slurs in a game that didn't get banned
like the sort of stuff that should 100% be picked up by a system
Yeah but you don't need the source code for that
literally "touch grass"
Is it? It is well known to have multiple game-breaking bugs almost every month
Recently one of the users figured out how years-long persisting bug happened and told it to riot, and I heard they could finally fix it
League code, just like I said, is known to be extremely broken to its community
IDK I never had a feeling it was especially broken all the time I played
The game itself
The balance is often broken with updates in a way that's not clear to casual players
The launcher was astonishingly shit
There is a whole YouTube channel dedicated to showcase all the bugs the game has
Beating records, finding bugs, doing funny montages in League of Legends - that's what you can mostly expect on this channel!
Channel banner and logo made by my friend Altheviel - https://www.facebook.com/althevielart?fref=ts

I can only talk about my experience
Never really met any bug while playing
Or seen streamers run into bugs
The problem is that they often happen during competitive plays
I have seen a match that got paused, delayed for like 2 hours, and eventually end up being a rematch
Because of a bug
And that was in a competitive league
In the most recent international tourney they had a dramatic match which later was figured out that the result could have been different if certain bug did not happen
Maybe a lot aren't that visible, may be why I didn't have that experience
Like, if a bug for example is that an item doesn't properly add all of its stats for some reason, I'm not likely to notice
Some of them are not noticable if you don't know how it should work
Some of them are not game breaking but super noticable
Some are simply gamebreaking
Interesting tho, good to know
League is famous for their "everything is a minion" bug.
Some problems are a result of unanticipated consequences where they try to balance one character by changing a mechanic and horribly break another
The funniest thing is that they have a system called Chronobreak for competitive league
Which makes it possible to go back time and play from one point in past
So they sometimes use it to 'fix' the situation
But then Chronobreak also sometime breaks
And they have to do rematch
So the casters be like
"We have a bug"
"We will return to the match after a Chronobreak"
"...Chronobreak is not working, we will have a rematch soon"
I have a channel on a discord server
just to send screenshots of bugs
the gifting system
at least on the BR server
was broken FOR 2 YEARS
2 FUCKING YEARS
they also gutted my kitty cat this patch coming
Donāt say you play YUUMI
kitty cat

league client is the most disgusting client I ever seen in any game
I play this game for almost a decade
she already has a 47% winrate outside of proplay
and I can say for certain, league if broken as fuck
Yuumi should never have a high winrate outside of proplay
Because it is one of the easiest champion to do nothing
And it is actually hard to play it correctly
she had one of the highest deltas of winrate to playrate
that changed after a shit tonne of nerfs/changes so she's like 30th or something on that delta now
Riot also ground my parents and fed them to the wolves
classic riot
dont worry though, this is my champion mastery point thingy for my main
i have way to much illaoi mastery
Jfc
Yuumi was designed so a less skilled player can play with their friend, so I think that works on some level.
Riot should just blanket ban some champions from proplay.
Such an irony, because Yuumi is actually quite a skill-based champion
these are my other two accounts that i made to play with friends
nowhere near as much as the crazy illaoi on the first, but still
but yeah, i dont think champions should be banned from pro play, but somethings defo fucky, the same happens with ezreal every other worlds
Huh, the ladies are very popular on League of Legends, it seems.
That is chipmunk's personal mastery chart
People like girls
silly poppy, you're not meant to be that big
also holy fuck, thats way to much of 1 champ, thats like 3* the amount i have on illaoi
I am an ARAM player so my thing looks like skittles
I like that Neptune series donāt even remotely try to hide the reference at all
They are simply straightforward
bruh
the metatext is killing me
Ryukishi and ZUN are friends unironically iirc
Hm. Linus has a new video, roasting chinese gaming setups for chinese new year. First 5 seconds starts with "This is too much waifu."
...This aughta be good.
Never enough waifu
Of course they are, lmao.
I imagine Ryukishi being like "Yeah I licenced Higurashi to that Neptunia thing, thought it'd be funny."
And then ZUN is like "... That's it I'm getting Reimu in Neptunia."
I wonder what Kojima thought of Cyberpunk
needs more food animals
7.8/10 too much water
Someone on this server made that
@peak mesa we love your stuff
Really?
Yup
but Doomguy may later have a mighty sword powerful enough to rip and tear the chief to pieces
heh nice
I wish that aesthetic came back
It should totally come back
Maybe I'm just super duper nostalgic but I think it wouldn't be a significant downgrade or anything
I dunno if this is too much of a meme but here
This is an actual thing.
That game has now become a potential warning vector, its quite sad.

Its $3
Jesus, that's a good deal. If I was a fan of shooters I'd get that.
Titanfall 2 is one of the best FPS games of all time
At that price it's a gift from the developers
What the fuck
I'd definitely get it because I loved playing Apex
if it weren't for the fact that I kept hearing for years that the game is dead the devs don't even care and there was a huge hacker problem
The single player campaign is worth full price
Usually it's around 40% cheaper for my region, not 20% more expensive
I don't usually care for single player when it comes to FPS so if all the other problems are still rampant.. I'll pass unfortunately
I'm sure it's good, I just enjoy FPS games more when I play online
It's the first snacks game...
Sorry for being a bit late to the party (as per usual), but for what it's worth, Titanfall 2 multiplayer is still definitely playable.
The vanilla servers can have some issues nowadays, but they're still usable. The servers can admittedly be a bit unstable at times, and there are times of the day where not many people are queueing for multiplayer, but in my experience crashes are uncommon and the servers are still relatively populated, meaning that you can still get a pretty consistently positive experience from the default multiplayer servers.
The main issue that you probably heard about recently were the DDoS attacks that the servers were subjected to for an extended period of time. While I don't think those completely disappeared, the issues have definitely died down somewhat in recent days.
If the vanilla servers really aren't cutting it, though, a new piece of software was released pretty recently called "Northstar" that allows players to host their own servers and generally bypass some of the more notable issues. I've never personally used it, but it sounds like it's popular enough among the community to warrant checking it out. You can find information about that at https://northstar.tf/.
Of course, I don't quite know what your specific situation is. If you're concerned about the servers crashing, or if the game isn't popular enough in your region, etc., then you might be making the right choice by skipping it.
For $3, though, it might be worth checking it out anyway, because it'll be a fantastic game if it functions properly. Just a recommendation, though; not attempting to pressure anything.
Aww thanks š
I don't know, I just might get it because it's so incredibly cheap, but at the same time when Apex Legends was getting hacked I just kept hearing so much bad stuff from Titanfall 2
That the game was practically entirely abandoned on top of those issues with hackers or servers going down, I have no idea if things have gotten better now though
tbf the single player alone is easily worth $3
especially if you're the type to play it more than once, unlike me
Well like I said I'm sure the single player campaign is incredible but I kinda care more about multiplayer
I just get a lot more enjoyment out of multiplayer shooters than single player
Doom being the single exception I suppose
I would definitely say that things have gotten better. The point about the game being abandoned is admittedly pretty accurate; we're certainly not expecting any content updates any time soon. The servers are still up, though, which is good enough for a lot of us.
Granted, the game is definitely past its prime, but in my opinion it is absolutely still worth playing.
Of course, you might disagree based on some of the aforementioned variables, but in my opinion it's at least worth trying out.
Not trying to pressure anything, though. If you still have reservations, then by all means, save that money for something you're more confident on.
It's less about the money for me since it's only 3 bucks it's basically free at that point, it's more about ''am I going to pay for this game and never play it ever again because it's completely unplayable/unenjoyable?''
I would personally go for it, if the money's truly not a concern.
At that point, the worst that happens is that your Steam Library gets ever-so-slightly more clogged, and the best that happens is that you get to add another pretty darn good multiplayer FPS to your repertoire.
As for the unenjoyable aspect, it might help to look up some gameplay beforehand to see if it's something that speaks to you or not. It's a very movement-heavy shooter, which is something that I'm sure our highly trained propaganda team has said to you before.
Like I said I played Apex so I know that if Titanfall 2 ends up working properly I'm probably going to enjoy it
Oh, is the Apex gameplay similar? I've never actually played it.
From what I've seen it's literally just Apex except you get Pathfinder's hook permanently which is his greatest tool and also robots
They are basically the same except each character has their own unique thing going on
The same core movement shooter action is still the same in both games
The weapons are literally the same in some cases
I stopped playing Apex because my machine can't run it perfectly just yet, so if I do buy TF2 I might have to hold off before playing it
That's pretty cool, actually. I had no idea that the gameplay was that similar between the two.
Oh, the technical issues are a shame. Titanfall's a tad bit older, though, so maybe it will work better?
I guess we'll find out when I eventually install it
Propaganda mission successful
I do hope you enjoy it as much as you did Apex, though. Good luck!
Well I was planning on getting it anyway since it's basically free
though I did pay slightly more because the prices here are a tad bit more expensive
I ended up paying 3.32 rather than 2.99
it's fine

Y'all I got the coolest kill in RDO
I shot one guy and his horse kept going, leading to another horse slamming into it causing the second dude to go flying

I had never gotten to this point before in BP
damn this place is so pretty
I wish the entire game was this colorful, a lot of the times the game is super gritty and desaturated and I get why but damn look at all this color
the demon world is so cool
oh I forgot BP straight up has photo mode too

Don't kill me
damn, I bought it for ā¬5 last month
not a huge difference but still
(I only intend to play the campaign)

Theme for the boss fight of Chapter 1! I originally started this song as music for a normal level but once I got a little bit of it done, I realized it was way too hype for that purpose. I threw in a little reprisal of Caroline's theme before the second chorus because of course she's kicking ass by that point.

"coming soonā¢ļø" but still neat
Ok listen, this is from a developer that made nothing of note before this, promised the best game in the genre by far, and so far has shown very little days before the game release.
I call bullshit on this delay, its an excuse because this game is a scam
i've not even heard of this game before now
never even heard of that game before now either
It's definitely a scam, they went and made a fanfare saying "yeah, no worries, we will release a gameplay trailer soon so you can see the game is real" and now the trailer is delayed because of this
Mark your calendars: GoldenEye 007 is set to launch on Xbox Game Pass on January 27th! The countdown begins now...
Also out on Xbox on Friday
:D
wait, is that a remaster of the old game? on gamepass?
IT IS! OMG!
best news i've heard all year
i love the steamworld franchise, all of the games i've played from it are great
i gotta play the demo for that later
I think bellular made a video about that wishlisted game. It definitely feels kinda suspicious and absolutely not ready
Playing Goldeneye when it isn't running at 15 fps will feel strange.
Never heard of it
It has since been dethroned as Steam's top wishlisted game by the game 'Stray'. This is still a very bizarre situation though with them utilising unpaid volunteers & a massive delay on-top... we would love to know your thoughts on this though, it's very odd.

I don't play the game but in other games I expect that the gray bar show potential from upgrading the weapon
That's the only place I see them in other games
It's got all the upgrades it could have
How curious
Rifled barrel
Long barrel
Improved sights
That's all the upgrades you can get in RDR2 lol
They wanted to be more realistic
There's also weapon familiarity, where weapons become better with use
Okay
It's probably that the white is base states and the grey is my ammos stats
Then swap to different ammo and find out
the only other guess I can think of is critical hits but I have no idea if RD* has those
I have a hard time imagining a critical hit system that improves range lol, but it was a long shot
Badum ts
base stats vs some kind of switchable/equippable enhancement seems the most likely
I know it's not because my weapon is dirty
I took that screen cap fresh after a cleaning
Do you like my pistol?
I also took a picture of the repeater but for some reason it didn't upload to the network
IIRC itās loss of performance due to the weapon needing to be maintained
Read three messages up
Right here
here's the repeater
Different upgrades and ammo types
They might have designed it so that you canāt necessarily max them all out at once
Second comment down says that there's still grey even with a fully upgraded gun with the best ammo
Itās been a hot minute since Iāve played
Well thatās what the internet is telling me
its for different ammo types
you can reach that specific potential stats if you use the right ammo for the gun
and this is the wierdest thing i've ever seen in this game

it uses original assets, not the ones from the leaked XBLA version. It doesn't even seem to be using HD fonts
TL;DR: 1964GEPD on PC will remain the definitive way to play it, with keyboard/mouse support, 60 FPS, high resolutions, etc
there's a decompilation project which was 50% complete last time I checked, it might get a PC port in a few years from now
Perfect Dark has a complete decomp but no PC port yet

I'm not sure how a flat structure with total creative freedom is supposed to be bad.
I would totally wear a gaming helmet
Especially if I could cram VR into it
Forspoken isn't reviewing well anyways.
Its a typical square enix game
About only thing they have now thats worth talking about is final fantasy
the usual alleged downsides of this sort of total individual freedom are that no one ever works on the boring stuff like maintaining existing products, testing and polishing not-quite-finished ones, and you may not have enough people committed to the same project at the same time to do it properly
I don't know how true that is and haven't read the article, just that's what I've heard before

I've said it before here but I love love love this type of levels in old videogames specifically
something about the scale of these giant levels in these low poly low res textured games is just so fucking cool

It super reminds me of when I was playing Deus Ex and I was just... in awe at the super good atmosphere of the city parts of that game
does anyone else pick up what I'm putting down here or am I kinda weird?
no I get it
I just don't think I've played very many games from the "count the polygons" era of 3D

I've heard of this franchise a lot but I never actually played or seen it at all
I know nothing about it unfortunately
looks like the starcraft lady
I think the fastest way to describe it for this crowd is "halfway between the original Half-Life and the original Deus Ex"
ok but did you ever manage to launch the assassin droid into orbit
I do not think so
aw
I played it when I was far far too young to actually figure anything out
(tbf it took me a while, though mostly because at that age it scared me)
I don't think I owned it either
i played it on someone elses computer during
some wierd scenario
makes sense, it takes a while to get to the end of it
I love how it's a universal thing for kids to be scared of things in games even if the game is not necessarily scary or horror oriented
dying isn't fun
plus there's no real combat mechanics in Droidworks, the assassin droid just moves really fast and zaps you to death if you can't run away fast enough
and you have to use yourself as bait to ultimately deal with it
come to think of it I don't think I've ever personally played one of those horror games where you can't fight and have to run away from everything
they were never my style personally
I remember being super scared of RE4 but that's a horror game
I never got past the first level of the farm as a kid
2 spoopy
it doesn't help that, you know, they speak spanish, so I understood that they were saying ''GRAB HIM, GET HIM, GO GO GET HIM GET HIM!''

I've never played re4
Tale might remember me saying this a few days ago but because RE4 was one of the first at-least-half-horror games I ever played it spooked me pretty badly at first... until I tried listening to J-pop while I played and then it was fine
and I only did that once or twice early in the village part
hmmmm I'm trying to remember if I was ever scared by something that wasn't really scary or a horror game as a kid...

oh I actually remember
Batman Begins scared the shit out of me for some reason
I remember there's these enemies that are all crazy and do these weird noises and move really weird and that really creeped me out as a kid
and don't forget the games that weren't really that hard but we were terrible at as kids lol
or games that weren't really hard and nailed as kids but somehow I can't seem to go through now as an adult

oh, which one is that?
Hmmm... let me think, I can't remember right now which one it was but I definitely remember going through an old game and thinking ''how did I ever figure this shit out as a kid???''
because I never read anything!

ah, well then I'll name the one I was alluding to

You're a wizard Harry.
Back in 2001 the world got Devil May Cry, Grand Theft Auto 3, Halo, and...this.
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, or Sorcerer's...
spoiler: no in retrospect it wasn't really good
Lol
but I have weirdly fond memories of the stealth puzzle rooms
They even had to abandon the structure a bit to get half life alyx out
Oh man, I remember being so bummed that I was softlocked in Harry Potter 2 in the PS2
I remember the last thing you do in that game is go for the end year celebration and the winning of the cup and I remember not having enough points so Slytherin won the cup
and I had nothing else to do so I was just kinda fucked
I was so fucking bummed by that
bethesda
THIS GAME IS FUCKING GOOOD
I remember I recently played Sonic Unleashed again and I had a lot of trouble with some levels
as a kid I never finished the last eggman land level, and I still haven't
but I remember thinking ''how the hell did I even get this far as a kid? I'm having trouble NOW''
Sonic Unleashed bricked itself on my ps2. After a point in the game it would just get an infinite loading screen.
Oh man I remember uhh
In Bully if you were out in night hours these fucking giant dudes would pursue you
They scared the shit out of me as a kid
I'm currently downloading itm it looks awesome
omg is this the game with the really bad Hagrid
I feel like I might've played a bit of Bully but I'm not sure
I want to play bully but fond it too clunky on PC
what is DroidWroks
do you make your own droids
is it fun
does it hold upp
uh
i bought 2 games today Plants vs Zombies and Vampire Survivors
I mean I enjoyed it a lot back then but I kinda doubt it holds up lol
is Yoda in it
I don't think so?
why

why are you confused
Yoda isn't in every star wars game or story
yea but everything that has Yoda is automatically good
Play Yoda's story
Lol
i also found this which I hate
https://youtu.be/j2qBdfKM2x4 I was gonna post this vid where jontron plays it but you already know about it lol
Today we have a very green, very tiny, and very special guest. He then proceeds to tell us a story. The story could use an editor.

Actually might be catchier than the original
I think it peaks at Shaq personally
...They had an actual general doing voice work for a game?
WHAT.
He must've really needed that weed money that day.
they do this if they have any suspicion
Yes, but in the x-rays they thought it was like some potential kaboom.
So they pretty much ripped it open, and found a cell battery.
If they can't tell what a coin cell battery is in the xray, they shouldn't have thatjob
The TSA doesn't have a problem with analyzing my dense bag full of electronics, wires, batteries, and more electronics
\
I mean, it doesn't matter. The law allows this and encourages it.
So its a bit more of Rule 2 issue.
It sucks for sure though.
Honestly, that is so blatant that it probably was deliberate destruction.
that fucking intro with Zach as Yoda is still one of the most hilarious bits ever
''Woah! Careful where you're flying that thing! You might accidentally knock Yoda out of his catatonic state''
wow this game sounds awful
Recently saw that Square Enix still sells reprinted and new old stock PlayStation and PlayStation 2 games. So I had to order some! Directly inspired by this video from
GAMEGUY1210: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3ElYjPnz1g
And here's the webstore: https://store.na.square-enix-games.com/en_US/games/all-games
It sounds fucking awful
They're unsold reprints from a few years back
They wanted more money I suppose
Wait, they just made new copies of PS1/PS2 games? Like for real?
I don't know when they made them
But this happens all the time if it's in small volumes
Notice how the Final Fantasy origins one they don't have the materials to do the classic PS1 black backing
I guess if people buy them, then it makes sense
heh, a CS:GO map that's made by the community but is available in the official base game just got a Christmas update⦠in January
everyone's making off by one errors today
we just got a TYT short for Valentine's day
the update was actually made after Christmas on December 28th, but it took Valve a while to integrate it
(this is common procedure for community map updates, though the fact the update was made after Christmas means this was done as a joke)
lol
Decided to invest in an Xbox Series X controller, my ol' reliable PS4 one is giving up the ghost.
Plus like, my mum got an Xbox One for Xmas, so it'll be handy for that whenever multiplayer shin-digs happen
I've been using my dualshock 3 I've gotten about 8 years ago
doesn't feel like new but still works like I wanted it too
tbh i think the fact it came with the shell on the right handle bent in a bit was a sign
SIRI
PLAY SNAKE EATER
fair
Shame we didnt get 1 and 2 on pc
even more TLOU?
are we gonna cut even more fingers off of Ellie's hands?
TLOU2 left such a sour taste in my mouth I don't even want to think about the prospect of another TLOU being made

also wow Forspoken was even worse than I thought

it's such a weird trend nowadays in multiple media to just make the MC an insufferable unlikeable asshole
the game also apparently has insane requirements but looks so unpolished

apparently the remakes good

Yeah I was gonna link that video earlier
Dead Space got the RE1R treatment, aka the best remake of all time
No extreme changes or complete overhauls, the same core game is intact, just with better improvements and enhancements to the original gameplay and much better visuals
thats genuinely great to hear, i was concerned EA would do an EA
there's still time
Fortunately it is a genuine great game and remake and from what I heard from Suzi they recontextualize a lot of things in the plot and add some more moments that reference other Dead Space media
so there's a bit there for everyone
It is a very funny statement coming from a DMC superfan, given how many people find Dante to be exactly that.
It seems to me that the problem is more that there wasn't much of an audience for this kind of personality or more likely, the writing wasn't good enough to make it an endearing personality trait.
Huh???
Nobody finds Dante to be an insufferable unlikeable asshole
that's the weirdest take I've heard
I love regular Dante
Everyone loves Dante he's one of the most charming lovable videogame MCs
I don't, but it's literally the number one complaint from people that dislike Devil May Cry
I find him to be unlikeable but actually I don't care because the game is not about Dante. It's about hitting enemies with a sword
Dante never acts like an insufferable unlikeable asshole like a lot of MCs in current media do where they're super sarcastic and snarky and generally just an asshole to everyone around them
Well the game is about Dante...
At least the first three
I thought he was great when I was younger, now that I'm odler I find him in older games a lot more cringy, but still not terrible
I don't care about story
In DMC5 and 4 he is a lot better, as the writing clearly improved overtime
I just wanna see numbers get big
To be clear, I still find him endearing in the older games too, but it's more because I formed my opinion of him at the time
Well that's just a matter of different tastes I guess, DMC is no stranger to wacky japanese style antics it's extremely influenced by shit like kamen rider
A character that does the same nowdays I would probably find annoying and unnecessarily edgy
But Dante has never ever acted in the way I'm describing when I refer to MCs like Forspoken's
At all
If people find him unlikeable because they personally don't like the wacky over the top antics of games like DMC or Bayonetta that's one thing but Dante acting like an insufferable unlikeable asshole is a galaxy apart and a completely different thing
I mean...that's also very subjective, and I assure you, a LOT of people find him an insufferable asshole
That's not really the point, whether or not people find him to be isn't the same as him being
That's not really the point, whether or not people find him to be isn't the same as him being
This sentence doesn't mean anything
There isn't an objective metric for this
I'd argue there super is
Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series
IDk maybe you only hang out with younger people than I do, when I say I like Devil May Cry with the people I hang out with I pretty much always I need to preface "I know it's cringy at times, it's self aware edgyness"
I don't actually, and I know I'm probably desensitized to japanese over the top antics because it's a form of media I've consumed and enjoyed for a long time, but what I'm arguing here is completely different and it's the fact that you compared an MC like Dante who is universally loved to a type of MC prevalent in current media who acts like an asshole to everyone around them and is generally completely unlikeable
Dante is charming, he's funny, he's cool, yeah he can be a bit cringe for people who aren't used to this type of thing but that doesn't really matter much because he's not acting like an asshole, he's not a dick all the time, he's just goofy
I watch a lot of anime, and played a fuckton of JRPGs, so it's definitely not because of japanese tropes
Even tho there is some of that
and the people I probably 'hanged out' with the most are the two streamers that got me into DMC in the first place, both of which are around their 30s-40s and love the shit out of this franchise
so it's definitely not an age thing at all
Pat and Woolie?
It's just a matter of tastes, but again that's not my point really, I'm just trying to make it very clear that I'm not talking about MCs like Dante here and Dante is nowhere near the type of MC I'm talking about

Yeah
Paige is playing through DMC1 too and she's loving it, and she's almost 30
she thinks Dante is super cool
I'm not saying no older people can find him endearing, I do, but his kind of humour is definitely something that didn't age well with my aging sensibilities.
I do think their view and seminars of DMC have also lightened me up on DMC because I did not care about that stuff when I was a teenager 9 years ago
Almost every game from Nihon Falcom uses JRPG tropes for their characters but still make their protagonists/MCs incredibly enjoyable and you root for them throughout their development. Then this is the company that gave the world Estelle Bright, my favourite protagonist in any video game I have ever played so I'm probably biased.
Only thing I played of dmc was Dante and Vergil in Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Dante being in Shin Megami Tensei
Dead Space preloading is live.
Dante, Vergil and Zero was a very popular team in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Yeh
At any rate, I see not much difference with what is happening between Forspoken MC and Dante, with the difference is that Forspoken MC is just written worse, and the jokes massively don't land.
But I don't think that writing an asshole character, being arrogant and throwing quips, is a new phenomenon in gaming
Zero May Cry ain't something to fuck with
It's just done badly in this case
Well I don't wanna go around in circles here I'm just gonna say that I massively disagree with your take on this
It's the first time I've ever heard this take in my life
agree to disagree
Except I didn't have Dante in my team, I would have Dr.Doom, Strider or Wesker instead
Vergil was the cooler brother imo
were you running hidden missiles assist?
Yeh
Its ironic EA is most competent at making remakes
Now we just need a dragon age trilogy collection
growing up is realizing Dante has always been the coolest .

and while I'm at it I totally understand the modernization of DMC's aesthetics but I will totally miss the more gothic super stylish aesthetic of previous games
DMC1 Dante is still peak Dante
and I'm just gonna say it, DMC4 Nero actually looks kinda cool
the ghana movie adapation of devil may cry was best adaption of all time though
oh is the DS remake out already
argh everything's coming out faster than I can get to it
ah it's tomorrow
is there a longer form of this take you'd recommend checking out? e.g. the video chipmunks posted?
what do you mean?
like, more details
what did they actually change or add beyond shinier graphics and Isaac having some lines or whatever
oh that is "Suzi"
ye
And everything will still be there when you do
hm
ok I've got ~10m left in this show, so that Suzi vid's up next because I'll likely want to start preloading DS after it
Cant wait for the voldemort playthrough.
yeah we've known for a while that all three Unforgivable Curses can be used in combat, or ignored completely
Yeah but can I Avada Kedavra children for the perk?
is Harry Potter in this game
no, it's set in the 1800s long before the HP books
why
so... they can tell their own story?
ok
this is extremely standard for good adaptations lol
So it's a slightly less racist setting?
So they don't have to deal with J K Rowling's writing
DAMN a one two punch

maybe less, maybe more, doubt we can judge until it's out
we know a major plot point is goblins rebelling against unfair treatment, again, so I'm sure everyone will have opinions on how that's handled

Oh right goblins arnt evil in this
The yellow goblin rebellion
Use to warhammer goblins
The starting event for the romance of the four kingdoms
Oh gosh
(fwiw, I currently do not plan to buy or play the game because rule 2, but I want to stay informed on it because the conversation's going to be inescapable)
Ill probably buy it on sale
If theirs mod support yes
Yes. He will be reprising his role as dobby
Cant wait for the model swap mods for shrek
we know that house elves will be in the game, if that's what you're trying to ask
Dang elves
it's a trick question, Yoda is a strong supporter of trans rights why would he be in this game
Where is the dawi
Gender, be not
We know Yoda is actually played by Bingus
Yoda is too busy ODing on ketamine
ok Yoda and Bingus do have similar vibes
"RE1-style fully interconnected backtrack-able world"

I preloaded Persona 3 Portable
Which... oh yeah, I need to get back to the tomfuckery of "Deez Tiddies"
If only RE2 and RE3 had received the RE1R treatment as well
I forgot P3P was coming to PC
nice
I played the shit out of P3P as a kid but never finished the game
I probably should I remember really liking it
yeeeeah it's the same game but literally better
well I loved RE2 remake too, even if it's a bigger change
(original RE2 had some pretty serious problems to be fixed, unlike RE1)
playing through RE3 now, man I'm so sad for RE3 fans who expected a good RE3R
it cuts so much content and it's just... an entirely different game
is Resident Evil 2 the one with the scary man
you're probably referring to Mr X, who is in RE2
or Nemesis from RE3
there are many other scary men throughout the series though, like the original RE1 Tyrant, RE2's William Birkin / G creature, RE3's Nemesis, etc
the one with the hat
.... or Bitores Mendez from RE4
the fedora is unique to RE2 Remake's version of Mr X
OG Mr X had no fedora yeah
I think the chainsaw man is scarier than Mendez
also Mr X is one of the biggest og vs remake improvements
like he was good in the original RE2, but mostly he was a couple of scripted events
in RE2 the whole gameplay experience changes when you get to the phase where he's constantly chasing you around
I actually played through RE2R like last year and Mr X was just kind of annoying to me
and it's sooooo satisfying to play hide and seek with him through the station just after you've finally learned how the station is layed out enough that you can play the "ok he's blocking that door but if I go this way and loop back around..." headgame
I also find it very weird that they switched Mr X and Nemesis' dynamics making Mr X the one that chases you all the time and Nemesis a scripted sequence all the time when it should be the other way around
Nemesis is the one that is constantly on your ass and does not let you rest for a second
hold on let me google Nemesis
for anyone who's not clear on this, I have yet to play RE3 original or remake, so I can't say anything about Nemesis
I did get that feeling but for me it was less about fun and more about just ''ah he's right there, fine I'll go the other way, jesus''
I think Mr X is scarier
It wasn't that much fun for me unfortunately
why does he have such a stupid name
"Mr X"
why cant he be named like
Bill
or Charles
well I'm sure Tale had fun watching me go "now I just use this item upstairs and- NEVER MIND NEW PLAN" when I wasn't expecting him
I'm interested in hearing what you'll think when you eventually get to OG RE3 and RE3R
fortunately I did know much of the layout well enough that during my playthrough Mr X was not a problem at all
but that's... kinda the point I guess, he wasn't scary to me, he was just an annoyance
Nemesis on the other hand..
eh, to each their own
why doesnt he have the hat in the original game
for me it was the best thing ever
really I think RE1 remake and RE2 remake are equally good, just different
like Alien and Aliens
WHERE CAN i watch Aliens do you know Ix
I think RE1R is a great game and a perfect remake, I think RE2R is a great game

Maybe polygon limitations
just pirate it if you don't sub to a thing that has it
yea ill just yarr it
It's not really a remake RE2 is more of a reimagination of the entirety of RE2 since so much changes from narrative to gameplay
for better and worse
I think he looks better with the hat
eh, for me it was all better, but that gets into og re2's problems
The playstation one's biggest limitation by far is that it can't draw complex models very well
I don't deny the old RE games having problems, I'm just disappointed they didn't do like RE1R and enhance and improve on those gameplay elements and instead decided to just start from the ground up
do you guys remmeber when Badger from Breaking Bad called the people in Resident Evil 4 zombies
I mean I think that's exactly what they did
Are they not zombies?
i think technically they arent
And if my grandma had wheels she'd be a bicycle
Oh, in 4?
You don't need to be undead to be a zombie
Well one of the first things Leon says in the game is they're not zombies
"zombie" means a lot of things

See zombie ants, which are infected by a brain spore
the point of the breaking bad scene is that it's a silly argument over nothing
I'd say yeah, RE4 is closer to Last of Us than zombies for sure
this is a zombie
in the context of the RE franchise, what Leon means is that they're not T-virus victims
Ophiocordyceps unilateralis, commonly known as zombie-ant fungus, is an insect-pathogenic fungus, discovered by the British naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace in 1859, and currently found predominantly in tropical forest ecosystems. O. unilateralis infects ants of the tribe Camponotini, with the full pathogenesis being characterized by alteration...
which is true, but colloquial usage of "zombie" is far broader than that so who cares
that's every Skinny Pete and Badger conversation
This is a zombie
Sure, zombie has, after decades, become a really broad thing
But RE 1 through 3 used the same concept of zombie
did you miss the thing I said before Flitter's huge embed?
It would be disingenous to say that 4 are also zombies but with in-universe differences
I think this channel got way too fast for a few minutes
I don't see the issue or discrepancy
A zombie in this specific context means what most people think it means which is an undead person and in the context of RE it's people infected by the T-Virus
RE4 is all regular humans infected by a parasite creature
now backing up a bit because I still have this in my clipboard from before we got interrupted
zombie Doomguy
one of my strongest impressions from playing original RE2 was that they were trying to move in a more action-y direction after RE1, like what RE4 eventually was, but didn't update the controls/movement accordingly so that it was possible to consistently deal with faster enemies or more hectic encounters
in particular, the final bosses of og RE2 were just plain bad
What the fuck. Doomguy can't be a zombie. He's the protagonist! He has plot immunity!
one of them I got genuinely stuck on and even Tale had no idea why I couldn't kill it and we had to look up walkthroughs
it's just a skin!
Fitting because he has no skins and his guts are spilling out
and the other was just impossible to dodge reliably so the best strategy was to stand still, facetank and grenade spam, which isn't very fun
RE2 remake switching to the over-the-shoulder RE4-style movement/aiming scheme helped soooooo much with this
I wonder how you'll feel when you get to RE3...
considering that, while I definitely feel like the movement and combat could definitely be improved, I also feel like RE3 managed to do what RE2 didn't based on what you're telling me
I don't think getting rid entirely of the gameplay system of the old games is a necessity
I am so curious about re3
You don't have to get completely rid of tank controls and fixed camera or the lock on and shoot type gameplay to make a satisfying action-y type gameplay for a survival horror
The over the shoulder is more of a style thing, I get it, new players don't like classic survival horror
you don't, but I don't think RE2 benefitted from that
even RE1 I don't think benefitted from every camera angle being fixed, half and half would've been fine, but it doesn't suffer either
I haven't played RE2 in a long time so I don't wanna say too much since you played it more recently, but playing through RE3 and having played through RE1R... I feel like you can make it work, totally
again, I'm not saying it's impossible to do this very specifically abstract thing you just described, only that RE2 definitely ain't it
But it goes a lot further than just the gameplay style, I don't like how RE2 and RE3 completely change everything, yes the same core spots and plot points are there but it's entirely changed and revamped completely
Oh no I'm not trying to defend RE2 at all
I'm sure it has loads of issues, just like RE1 had
(also I just don't get the obsession with fixed angles, I really don't lol)
It's not fun but the limitation furthers a narrative purpose more than a gameplay one
It's not an obsession, I mostly got very defensive over the years after so many people treat classic survival horror as an outdated system that no longer works and a lot of new survival horror or horror games completely dropped it
what does "classic survival horror" actually mean though?
It's not going to ruin my world, I liked RE2R, I just wish it was more like the original
Silent Hill, Dino Crisis, Resident Evil 1-3
because if that's code for "fixed camera angles", then it's definitely gone from a technical necessity to a stylistic choice, so it's natural and good that it's less common (though it shouldn't die out of course)
I love 4 and 7 but the remakes of the original ones feel more dramatic and sometimes scarier than either of them
I meant mechanically, just listing games doesn't clarify what that refers to
especially when RE2 was in between RE1 and RE4 on a lot of these aspects
Well Signalis is a pretty excellent case of a modern classic survival horror
and it's why I love it so much
RE2 is the weird child but still much closer to RE1 and RE3 than to 4 or 7
(Sorry but I don't know anything about 6 or 8 and I barely remember much of 5 besides punching rock)
8 was cool
The fixed camera although in Signalis it's more of a birds eye view angle which is fine, the tank controls although Signalis also has 2D controls which are arguably better and that's fine, the point and shoot type of combat, the focus on solving puzzles and backtracking or exploring a giant area that you slowly uncover more of via acquiring items and solving puzzles
YOU WILL GIVE ME AN EGG
Even something as simple as a camera change can change so much
Because the camera is in third person there's less control over certain scripted sequences or scares like the infamous Licker window scene in the original RE2, there's much less focus on the iconic tunes and music since the music is now more atmospheric than anything, it's just this faint sound somewhat resembling the old soundtrack and that's because you have to be more aware of your surroundings and noises in a third person perspective
There's of course going to be a lot more focus on the gunplay with limbs that fall off and different effects if you target different limbs
That was also a thing in the original RE games although you had to manually aim up or down and you had to wait for the zombie to get close to you, so it was a huge gamble
aaaah too much typing too fast to respond
Like I said it's a narrative choice not a gameplay one, there's not a tangible reason to point to. Having control of the way the player looks at certain scenes or rooms simply benefits the director and the writers, not the player
I 'm not entirely sure what you mean by that
ok, I do agree that point-and-shoot combat, levels designed with backtracking in mind, and puzzle solving to unlock more areas, are not "outdated" in any way, but I also don't think that's what people mean (after all point-and-shoot remains standard in the modern action-y horror games, and the other 2 are standard in other genres like Metroidvanias)
but I think when people allude to the older survival horror games being outdated, they're mostly talking about 100% fixed camera angles, tank controls, and perhaps the draconian inventory limitations, which I do believe are much more questionable and rightly less common these days
Okay, so improve upon that, you know? Don't change it, DIno Crisis and Silent Hill already improved upon those things in the 90s
Fully 3d modeled maps, the camera is no longer fixed entirely to a singular point, it can move with the player, do that!
personally I haven't made up my mind on how I feel about tank controls in general, other than it works much better in RE1/0/some of 2 than it does in RE4/Dead Space/later parts of RE2
There's so much room for creativity and fun to be had with a fully movable camera while still adhering to the classic survival horror gameplay style
A camera can do so much, it can give you extra information or it can set up a scare or simply be good for atmosphere or have a nice cinematic angle like the infamous angle in the alley in SH1
I think the draconian inventory system and the item crafting, which must be pointed out was almost new, is like 60% of the "outdated" view. And it's why it's much more lenient in the remakes. The fixed camera angles are not really that bad but they're not objectively good, they just tilt the scales one way while loosening something else.
It's difficult for me to talk about because I do like RE2R and I know I sound like I hate it but I don't
And controls got better, so that's a non-starter
I don't think tank controls are a necessity, even RE1R had 2D controls
Some people find those much easier to have, that's completely fine
Yeah for sure, controls are a pure benefit here
to be clear, I said "100% fixed" for a reason; I don't think anyone objects to the camera being occasionally fixed during specific moments that are designed around it, like SH2 did (and arguably every game with cutscenes)
I wish RE1R had a movable camera but for whatever reason RE1R still has prerendered backgrounds with ultra fixed camera angles, that's also okay
yeah, like I said I don't think RE1 remake suffers from 100% fixed angles, that one's fine either way
Yeah, and that's why by RE3 already there were segments with a very loose camera. Not free but best they could do. But later gamer completely ditched the fixed camera. It was literally gone for like 4 games.
it does create some odd gameplay when you use auto-aim to detect enemies you can't see, but once you're aware of that it worked fine and I never felt like I took a cheap hit solely because of where the camera was placed
Are there? I'm playing through RE3 right now and I don't remember segments with a movable camera
The mix was always the solution but I guess you can't fault them for taking a decade to figure it out
But you can fault them for RE6, for sure
The reason why it was completely gone is because even by RE3 the games were already taking a more action-y approach, I feel like while there's still a lot of room for improvement for RE3, at the time, it was pretty well done and I feel like it's the best controls in the entire original three games
four if you count RE0
RE1R is still good but it's much slower in comparison, which is fine too
right, I only fault it in og re2 because in that game there are a few times when the enemies move fast enough that not being able to consistently see them ruins the fight; that just wasn't an issue in re1
Yeah it's a mix of thinking it was outdated and also trying to do something different.
by RE4 there was already a lot of focus on action games at the time on the market, so it's no wonder they pioneered the OTS perspective in shooters
But RE4 was not a survival horror, not in the traditional sense anyways
RE4 was more of a horror action shooter, so we have to keep that important fact in mind
RE4 was completely linear with next to no puzzle solving and pure combat, sure it was scary, well at least to me as a kid, but it wasn't a survival horror anymore
In the end this is exactly why time proved RE4 right. When it launched it was loathed but over time people realised how much it good it was doing even if it would take years to pay off
it was loathed? RE4 was the first one I played because everyone went bananas for it
When it was announced and launched, for sure
I remember the pile of horrible reviews
At the same time I also understand the people who say RE4 ruined the franchise, not because it was bad, but due to the effects and ripples it caused in and outside the RE franchise
ripples that culminated in RE5 and RE6
weird, I saw nothing but glowing reviews
also I should say that RE4 had puzzle solving
and I'm guessing that RE2 and RE3 also took notes from RE4
it was mostly linear, but not lacking in puzzles
I did say next to none, there are, but not a whole lot
especially in comparison to the original three games
it felt like about the same frequency as RE1/2 to me
Nah I wouldn't say so
5 and then 6 definitely helped people to look at 4 on a kinder note, but even objectively it's just the first step to the REs that fuse the best of modern and old horror action games
In RE1 I was almost constantly drowning in puzzle related items every trip I went back and from the item box, in RE4 you only casually come across 'puzzles' and most of the times it's something like items that are in the exact same room you are in like the bridge where you have to get like 3 pieces and you open the door for example
or the light puzzle in the church, just very very simple quick stuff and super linear
oh you're talking about the carry items around the map kind of "puzzle"
you thought the light puzzle was simple??? it took me like half an hour to figure it out
then yes that's super rare in re4
I meant, well, actual puzzle puzzles
not rub blue key on blue door
Yeah of course, I mean I'm also talking about solving puzzles in a room but like I said the extent of those are like the light puzzle in the church and that one door where you gotta spin the thing to open the door
and... like what, 1 more?
I do think Re7 was pretty neat
it kinda fell off near the middle to the end and RE8 is overall a much better game
but RE7 was a great first note for the new RE games
I suppose there's also a what do words mean question about things like having to figure out which levers to pull or objects to shoot to get out of certain rooms alive, which you're probably also excluding
anyway, what mattered to me is that there were plenty of times RE4 broke up the combat sequences with something other than combat
Well like I said there are some puzzles, but they're not only less frequent than other RE games but they're also much less elaborate and complex
overall it's a much more linear experience due to the more action shooter focus of RE4
it has been too long since I played it to compare puzzle elaborateness, although the RE1-2 puzzles are also about as simple as they could be so I'm honestly skeptical
guess we'll see with the remake
my standards may also be skewed because I'm the type of person that occasionally plays Myst, Quern, Obduction, etc which the average gamer would probably find ridiculously overhard for puzzle difficulty
now see I'm gonna be much less harsh on RE4R because RE4 is already not a super traditional survival horror
so there's literally only gonna be improvements
Well yes you have to take into consideration a lot of puzzles will be super easy for us
I found a lot of puzzles to be insanely easy while playing RE2R, RE1R and RE3
but that's because I either already knew or I had already played other similar games
they're also not meant to be hard anyway
https://i.imgur.com/puFqIzU.png guess the new Dead Space is out
they're meant to break up the exploration/combat loop
(include original RE2 in there, if anything the remake added more puzzles, like the combination locks on Leon's desk, but they're all still simple)
probably a more useful contrast here is Silent Hill 2's puzzles
not only does it have a separate puzzle difficulty option, but it's normal difficulty puzzles took significantly more effort than the ones in RE1/2/4
well yes Silent Hill is a much less combat focused franchise
which is why I always hated the OTS/third person switch
It's not a franchise that benefits at all from a third person perspective
which is exactly how it should be because Silent Hill 2 is a much slower, more thoughtful game; you do need to conserve resources but you're basically never trying to solve these puzzles while ten zombies are lurching towards you much less evading Mr X
the re2re Leon desk locks took me a while only because I kept trying not to waste ammo on the zombies there and had to run away before I found the last name lol
right, that room is especially hard on RE3 because there's like 3-4 zombies
...though I am playing on Hard
because the game won't let me choose normal
The good thing is that time stops when solving puzzles or examining items
the bad thing is as soon as you solve the thing you now have to figure out how you're going to get out of there

insta-healing mid-fight often feels amusingly unrealistic but we're all glad it's an option
right, and a perfect example of that is the re2re armory
wish you could reload in the menus
once you get one of the keys it's hardly even a puzzle that you need to go there, attach it and enter certain numbers to open up stuff you couldn't before
but there's gonna be enemies in or around that room to evade as you do it
several times I had to hide in there and wait for a licker or Mr X to pass by
which was great
or lure them in and circle around
See I never had much of a problem because I'm a hoarder so with the lickers I just incinerated them alive with grenades and as for Mr X I just always managed to avoid him
the one zombie there does give you some trouble unless you get a lucky crit headshot and blow his brains out
