YOSHI P NO
So, I’m dealing with what is obviously an important question, which is whether to call my company for the third scenario of Railroad Tycoon II (which I am likewise redoing to try to get the gold) the Western Pacific, Southern Pacific, Mississippi and Pacific, or Gulf and Pacific (or for the latter two the same thing but without “and”)
Trainy McTrain Company
Should note that this scenario involves building the transcontinental railroad, and my plan is to build a line from Chicago to New Orleans and then build westwards (I haven’t decided whether to take the New Orleans to Los Angeles, St. Louis to Sacramento, or Minneapolis to Seattle route)
No 😛
Chuga Chuga Chuga Chuga Choo Choo
Lawrence
Alas, I have an affection for clunky but period-appropriate names (I guess Chicago, New Orleans, and Pacific would be even more appropriate, but that’s too clunky)
Dumpster Fire Rail Co.
Pony Express
this this this this this
Okay, that’s actually a good one.
Yeah thats been the talk online for past few days
Their suppose to have a response soon.
Thought you might like that one.
that would just kill the point of D&D
Thats what people are basically arguing
They might have a point, yeah.
I definitely see alot of people quitting if they go through with it
I would expect a notable migration to an open source rendition
It's DnD 4e all over again. This time Pathfinder 2e is already out.
we've been discussing this already in #1032743264463355934
tldr: wtf guys?
yaaay, DF represent
Bellular's been doing a "who is best/worst publisher of 2022" series, going through the big ones one by one with lengthy vids. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07ieRDNx9PE And, well, yeah. Ubi's not doing well, and they have so many games that are just "wtf?" that you've never heard of at all
Welcome to the worst publisher of 2022, our end of year roundup where we examine the wins, losses and news of each major publisher in order to finally crown who is best, and who is worst.

Always good to see Ubisoft fail
The whole list of 2022 releases is like an entire 5 min of that 20 min video. I think it boils down to the only thing that's been a success is valhalla and the dlc and stuff. Everything else is just failure or floundering
that games list is truly bizarre; with the one obvious exception, why was none of that marketed at all
Ubisoft being Ubisoft
I liked anno
...how is this my first time hearing that there was a Sands of Time remake in the works
As a quick recap of what they've done so far: Sony's put out the best quality stuff, though they're not without some drama/controversial decisions.
Xbox: hasn't put out much at all (three projects?) which did okay. By dint of that and not getting into too much trouble/drama, they aren't a target for worst publisher.
Actiblizz:
. Tl;dr, apart from MW2 and Dragonflight... the less said the better, really.
Ubisoft: see above. Release a ton, don't really market much at all, the big releases that do publish don't necessarily do well. They described it as "directionless, no soul in the games/choice of releases"
Haven't watched the EA vid yet
I gotta be honest, I love a lot of Ubisoft games. And I don't want them to fail.
It looks like Ubisoft is re-examining their strategy in the wake of some key games underperforming in a row.
wait what? there's gonna be a new dead space game?
Remake/remaster of the first

Remake is the term they’re using
Dead Space 1, but in a modern version of Frostbite with rebuilt assets
According to Wikipedia they’ve also basically removed the loading screens thanks to SSDs
I dead-ass read Fortnite instead of Frostbite and I was so fucking confused
its defo gonna be weird if they dont also do balance changes
I now want to see a necromorph do any of the Fortnite dances, just as a joke.
dead space 1 is hella easy now days, due to the majority of the audience simply having played more things requiring aim
then again it was always pretty easy on pc due to it being balanced for controller aiming
IIUC "remaster" means they don't (re)create any of the content, but use closer-to-original quality texture/audio files because modern systems can simply handle larger files?
Sometimes they recreate the content in part or in full
Sometimes it's just shit like GTA IV and their useless upscaling
Which means they practically used all the original assets
"remaster" and "remake" do seem very interchangeable in terms of their use, regardless of the fact they're very specifically different
This is an indirect result of the anti prescriptivist movement
If you keep insisting that it's okay to misuse words because meanings change, you're gonna run into the problem where supposed technical terms are no longer very useful
This is basically it, yeah. “Remaster” is touching up the existing assets while using the existing game as a base to build upon, basically a game mod. While “remake” is essentially throwing out the original game and rebuilding it.
The use of these terms tends to be pretty loose in practice since the line can get fairly fuzzy depending on how extensive the remastering/remaking is, but that is their intended meaning.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a purely true remake because they re-made the entire game from scratch.
The Last of Us Part I Remaster is a true remaster because all they really did was take the original game and touched up the assets and such with minimal actual replacement going on.
And you get things that are somewhere in-between which are in essence just extensive HD asset replacement mods, like Ocarina of Time 3D. The original N64 code is there, but modified. They recreated assets, re-animated models, added new features… but the original game was still used as the fundamental base with which to build upon and modify. So technically a remaster, but where does one really draw the line?
Aye. Because of the varying degrees there, there's no real industry wide standard as to what range qualifies as a remaster. Remakes is pretty easy as MA just said, but the extent of a remaster is more nebulous to determine
Although I said OoT3D is technically a remaster, it is most commonly referred to as a remake. Which frankly is probably more accurate anyway since they probably rewrote most of the game code for the 3DS system. (An aside, they intentionally kept several bugs but fixed some others)
But yeah, nebulous
Also, I feel this belongs here
Ha!
i should get that game at some point, i enjoyed it when i played it on the fortnite battle pass xbox gamepass

Do not watch if horror isn't your thing.
I'll be getting a few codes for that too and be doing my usual trade for wishlist stuff 😛
do we know of anything specific that's going to be changed in the remake? this trailer seems like exactly what I remember with shinier graphics
It's gonna be deader and spacer
Isaac has a voice this time
The Dead Space remake is looking to overhaul and change the original 2008 horror classic. From graphical improvements, rewritten dialogue, and new gameplay mechanics. This video highlights some of the biggest changes we found in chapters 2 and 3. Please keep in mind the game is still in development and anything we show here is subject to change....
EA will find a way to inject microtransactions into it.
ok, looks like it's mostly graphics
which is fine, I don't currently own any copy of Dead Space so it's still a solid value proposition for me
I watched my brother play Dead Space for five seconds while I was passing by his computer once
So I already had my fill
I still wonder what they'll do for that glitch that despawned the big bad necromorph
I guess ideally they'd turn it into a legit semi-secret move that weakens but doesn't kill it
though I was completely unaware of that back when I played these
Ideally, aye.
Oooh, new title screen and theme!
lmao
instead of dealing with children, Skul decides to fuck off into the dangerous mirror made of evil magic
mood, Skul. Fucking mood.
Oh no
The skeledude isn't here to blow up after I talk to him
am sad :c
Oof
rabbids under-performed?
I heard people talk about how it's a lot better than expected
But I assume it didn't catch a lot of people because rabbids have a bad reputation
Yeah.. ubisoft needs the next assassins creed to do really well
Most of their other projects have been duds
Skull and bones got another delay
maybe if activison deal isnt passed microsoft can buy ubisoft
Sounds like a lawsuit in the making
Plus if Ubisoft did get bought by Microsoft that'd pretty much torpedo any ideas for any future Mario + Rabbid games
Thats nintendos problem for not wanting to work with others
Nice.
Is it? It's their business, they can choose to remain a closed platform if they want.
Plus after the whole Nintendo Playstation debacle they're trying to hedge their bets with these recent partnerships like with Rabbids and the like
Is it necessarily the smartest thing?
But if another company is buying up third parties to strongarm a share in the market then that's not on Nintendo, they're not the ones literally buying out their competition.
you know
in this theoretical case, anyway
They can make a drift free controller. They just won't
Hall effect controllers are a little more expensive but still quite reasonable
Given the fact they would probably need to redesign the Switch Lite from the ground up to accomidate that, probably why they haven't already
They don't need to do that. They only need to redesign the joysticks
That and who knows what kind of wizardry they'd need to do to fit that in
It's about the same size as traditional sticks
Naruhodo.
They're probably not doing it now because at this point the Switch is treading closer to obsolete, betting on a new console reveal this year.
Prolly around June-ish
That and Nintendo is not the same as old Nintendo, who made every handheld unbreakable
True!
Actually shit, BoTW 2 comes out in like May, right?
I might be onto something, Mario Movie in April, BoTW in May, console in June
I would hazard a guess that BoTW will be the last big release for Switch to hold people over until the next console, maybe...
Would make more sense to me to make BoTW2 a starting title for the next console
I could also be talking complete shit, lmao
After all, if you're gonna release a new console you don't want people to hold over.
Maybe they'll do what they did for BoTW 1 and release it on Switch first then have a better version as a launch title of their new console
Or maybe the next big Mario game
Just speculation on my end though, pay me no mind

holy shit is that SAKUYA IZAYOI from the TOUHOU PROJECT?

Coming soon
Oh right, that gacha game that died
I mean Amazon Games is helping fund the new Tomb Raider and a new IP from Bandai Namco, that’s about it for anything most people might care about, internally Amazon looked a mess from the outside
ngl, if Amazon Games becomes simply funding other studios, that sounds good enough
Yeah, I've been checking GOG connect every month or so
No new games for over a year

Oh no, off to a good start
I'm wondering about something : is it possible to not always have odds-defying terrible dice rolls when playing D&D, or is it only a myth ?
If you use properly balanced dice (random.org for example) and record statistics on your dice rolls you will find they are not odds-defyingly terrible, just regular terrible
I remember playing a game on a simplified version of D&D where one of the players rolled a nat 1 every time she tried to fight
Out of a D20?
After five rolls I'd suspect the die is badly made
it wasn't a physical dice
That's when it crosses the odds into one in a million
Digital dice can be badly made too!
is Cult of the Lamb any good
Masque got really into it, I think.
It was very fun
It's no binding of isaac. It's great as long as you don't expect too much complexity out of either the management half or the adventuring half
i see
It's budget hades meets animal crossing
And it's pretty good fun, I liked it
Plus it's fun to stream, as they have an... app? Thing on Twitch that lets people watching/following you be a follower ingame too
So you can sacrifice them as you need

oh thats pretty long
Checking steam, I finished it in 20. I didn't unlock all the buildings and stuff but beat the last boss, but you can still player after
Yeah. Rumor is now their planning a response to the outrage
Oh they cancelled the announcement, not the whole thing
Yeah. Likely to formulate a response to all the backlash of some kind
They need to figure out a way to spin the announcement to not sound as bad as it is.
Or amend the ogl to where its far more tolerable
Or
People can just make compatible content without following the new OGL
Here are interesting paragraphs I selected from the article. There's a lot of important details I can't include:
Copyright also doesn't cover abstract systems or methods – like, say, a game whose dice-tables follow well-established mathematical formulae to create a "balanced" system for combat and adventuring. Anyone can make one of these, including by copying, improving or modifying an existing one that someone else made. That's what "uncopyrightable" means.
As EFF Senior Staff Attorney Kit Walsh writes in her must-read analysis of the OGL, this means "the only benefit that OGL offers, legally, is that you can copy verbatim some descriptions of some elements that otherwise might arguably rise to the level of copyrightability."
But like I said, it's not just that the OGL fails to give you rights – it actually takes away rights you already have to D&D. That's because – as Walsh points out – fair use and the other copyright limitations and exceptions give you rights to use D&D content, but the OGL is a contract whereby you surrender those rights, promising only to use D&D stuff according to WOTC's explicit wishes.
And here's where it starts to get interesting. Since the OGL launched in 2000, a huge proportion of game designers have agreed to its terms, tricked into signing away their rights. If Hasbro does go through with canceling the OGL, it will release those game designers from the shitty, deceptive OGL.
Hasbro and WOTC are hell bound and determined to kill gaming in the West
It's baffling
what are they trying to do
Yeah it's kind of ridiculous how tonedeaf they are being
Not just D&D but MTG is suffering hard too
It's a shame because Hasbro was fucking killing it in the early 2010s with MTG
(killing it in the good way
)

Unless they 180 soon, this may be a timelne where MTG and D&D either cease to exist as brands, or shrink and transform so much they are unrecognizable
Also: When people are surprised that I prefer gamepad with certain games
Eh, for certain genres it's pretty objectively better. But for stuff like FPS... well, only reason gamepad would be better is because it has aim assist
Personally I just like the ergonomics for long sessions and the analogue input for both aiming and movement
Oddly enough my hands/fingers hurt more when using a gamepad than with mouse/keyboard
I’ve historically performed better on gamepad in games like Halo than K&M, but I don’t actually know how strong the aim assist is
lmao
And then there’s playing games like Elite Dangerous on gamepad
I remember reading a few MTG books from ages ago. Greensleeves the druid, for example. And heck, the entire Phyrexian war is like a 10 book saga
Where you have like four times more key binds than physical buttons
First one showing how Yawgmoth became who he is was super interesting
Space sims on gamepad is when you start to get several layers on your inputs
I really hope the fuckups at WotC and Hasbro don't spread to the rest of Hasbro's IPs =/
who wishes to see me play kerbal space program?
What if they sell off WotC and redirect the budget to MLP
WotC runs at a significant profit, so that would result in then spending a hundred million dollars per year less on pony
I meant if WotC gets run into the ground, unprofitable
yeah i have zero faith in wotc now
and given the recent TCG market trends I've been keeping a pulse on globally
I'd be surprised if MTG survives as a major IP before the decade is out unless they 180 some shit
print the cards on air fresheners
D&D has changed hands before. It used to be owned by TSR.
Maybe I am over reacting, but it's concerning
Idk about D&D but people do shit on MTG relentlessly from its inception (often justifiably so) so apologies if I don't hold my breath for its imminent demise
It may happen but it would be surprising
hooray for late stage capitalism!

Cyberpunk dystopia here we fucking go

The title and thumbnail are a bit dramatic lol but still interesting
Luck be a Landlord is a game I have and this thing is the game with most updates I've ever seen
It had 21 patches since Jan 6 when it was fully released(out of early access)
This developer just fixes whatever single bug and then immediately release it as a patch
Mister Terminator are you okay
AYOOooo
I just find it baffling that my old games are getting more updates on mac, you have to mod the crap out of SC4 just to get it stable on Windows. Otherwise you're stuck with software rendering and poor performance, not to mention crashes.
Well, Aspyr works for the mac build. EA and Maxis worked for the Windows build.
So Aspyr probably got a lot of requests and decided to do it.
Meanwhile EA tried fixing SimCity 4 in the Origin version but completely backfired, it is actually recommended to avoid using the Origin version at all costs. It brings more bugs than fixes.
Its so weird because Steam and GOG do have applied tweaks but it still performs poorly.
Oddly enough, the wiki says the Mac version is the worst in PC Gaming Wiki... but it doesn't know if the later revisions are better. Which from my experience, it does seem to be way better now.
Damn, the retail doesn't work on windows vista and above
My original V2 GTA San Andreas disk, from 2004 I believe, works perfectly in windows 10. There are sometimes some bugs with moving the mouse, but it is good once it fixes itself, just from pausing and unpausing the game.
Now it has been a while since I played GTA San Andreas I admit, so I can't quite say for the newer windows 10 updates, but I have had a perfect experience with that game in windows 10
GTA 3 was different though. Steam version, but had graphical bugs and of course had to lock fps to 30. Otherwise I get like 500 fps and can push cars at super speed and I can't reverse.
Paizo is making a competitor to the OGL that is system-neutral and the license will take in community input.
Meanwhile, the WoTC rumor mill is saying they might be scaling their new license back a tad

I mean, this isn’t late-stage capitalism, this is just shitty management. Been around since the beginning. Good C-suite and senior manager types recognize that your customers usually have a choice and so you need to make them happy to use your services so that they keep doing so and also recommend you to other potential customers.
I think the funniest part of running GTA III uncapped is being yeeted off slopes at 500 km/h when just walking around
(often resulting in your demise due to fall damage)
if you want to play with higher framerate and a mostly stable experience, stick to a 60 FPS cap, or 72 FPS on a 144 Hz monitor. The game generally starts breaking down past 85 FPS. This can be done with external software or mods, the built-in frame limiter is always 24/25/30 FPS (depending on whether you have Silent Patch installed)
This is also true of Railroad Tycoon 3. It does seem to be a problem with games of that era, where they kind of fall through the cracks of being okay with software doing everything like many earlier games or being designed in such a way that they work okay on modern hardware like many later games.
Driving these goals were two simple principles: (1) Our job is to be good stewards of the game, and (2) the OGL exists for the benefit of the fans. Nothing about those principles has wavered for a second.
What's beneficial for the fan about forcing them to report how much money they make to you then pay royalties?
- giev us more money, peons
The very worst thing about the royalties is they're taken from revenue, not from profit
I have fears of this gross incompetence spreading to other IPs
They have already spread here from MtG
Like I don't want to see G5 suffer in quality
And since Hasbro clearly does not care at all about DnD or MTG it's a real concern
Oh, well I don't think that one will be affected much because ponies were a moneymaking venture from the start
Hasbro announces that in the next episode of G5, you have to buy a DLC if you want to see Izzy in the episode at all
Or they bring back the game over screen and you have to insert a few quarters to keep watching.
"Shaders are extra"
If you don't pay the Izzy tax they replace all the voice line with characters asking where Izzy is.
Played Epistory
Looked neat, wasn't that fun
First Class Trouble is an okay Among Us style game. Interesting theming, nothing special though
Gamedec seems like the standout here
Never heard of it!
From what I understand, think Disco Elysium
"Gamedec is a single-player cyberpunk isometric RPG. You are a game detective, who solves crimes inside virtual worlds. Use your wits to gather info from your witnesses and suspects, getting to the bottom of deceptive schemes. The game continually adapts to your decisions and never judges."
Disco meets cyberpunk, apparently
From the description and screenshots it looks more like a divinity than a disco elysium
But it also looks like a cyberpunk b-movie with uninspired art
Halo MCC just keeps getting better and better!

Gonna be brutally honest here, I think G5 is a fairly sizeable downgrade from G4, not entirely unexpected when G4 reached pretty high heights that any well run and made show would struggle to reach but still it is a bit disheartening just how average at best G5 has felt to me. it certainly feels more aimed at "today's kids" and not something for the whole family to watch together like FiM I felt ended up reaching towards, G5 feels a lot less timeless as a result

Could well be the move to eOne rather than Hasbro as a whole though causing the changes, hard to say. I will say Hasbro do seem to run WotC pretty separately so hopefully the tomfoolery going on there won't spread to other divisions within Hasbro itself...
This leak is from 2016 so admittedly it is quite dated at this point but it still is a huge leak and has tons of stuff we have never seen before
But it is true that this is pretty much all there is for TF2, there is no new content besides what we see on the leak
they are going full-hitman, I see
So, basically, unless Valve starts working on TF2 again, this is it for TF2 and any new content in any capacity

More delays? https://www.pcgamer.com/heres-why-a-bunch-of-games-including-starfield-just-changed-release-dates-on-steam/
Steam policy change seems most likely
Pretty much. Easier for them to maintain.
For Trogdor's 20th birthday, Strong Bad digs up a 30 year old promo for an unreleased Peasant's Quest game. Do the math!
I remember Dwarf Fortress' time is relative release date
Aww, they changed the "little kitty, big adventure" release date to "coming soon". Used to be "Cats don't understand release dates"
To be fair about this, the response seems decent, but we'll have to see
I don't buy that it was never their objective to do bad shit, but at least it seems they are walking it back
Ultimately we'll have to see what the future OGL looks like
It is not decent. It's a lie
What they sent to content producers was not marked as a draft. It was marked as a contract they had to sign
WIth the response seems decent I meant that what they said they are going to change, is what I had problems with.
Of course they are not going to admit to having been absolute idiots
Thinking that those change would have been accepted by the community
That makes sense

something i learned today
apparently ME3 ending was originally going to have the reapers watch you decide their fate
Drew Karpyshyn had a very based scenario for ME 3
But EA thought that his scenario is too much complicated
And they did one of the most shitty endings for all times
Ohhh I haven't seen this concept art before
My understanding of what happened was that the script for the ending leaked about a year before the game came out (true story) and EA demanded that the ending be changed so that the game maintains an element of surprise for said ending. That's literally it.
The original ending was supposed to be focused on the plot thread that started extremely subtly in ME1 and you encounter in ME2: Dark matter causing stars to die faster than they should be.
also fun fact
Tali's mission in ME2 was the primary introduction to that plot thread, but if you paid enough attention to the text lore in ME1 you discover a hint of that happening
the scene where kai leng knocks down your shuttle was suppose to be how the phantom was introduced
It was meant to continue on and end up as the Reapers doing it to prevent entropy from happening too quickly
True facts
Kai Leng was somewhat sideloaded into the script
it fits into Thessia and after at least
Yep
The ME3 script wasn't changed too much after the original ending was changed, but it is a definite downgrade from the original plot.
I really hope that Mass Effect (Next) continues on the entropy plotline
I recently re-played the trilogy and noticed that they didn't close off that plot line at all or block it from being explored later. The explanation of what the Reapers are and why they're doing what they're doing was carefully written to allow that to be explored further later.
@mossy flume dont know if you saw but modders got pinnacle station working again
Heard about that!
Awesome stuff
Bioware couldn't do it because the source code was lost when their offices got flooded
They didn't have off-site backups
I really hope that Mass Effect (next) won't happen at all

It's already happening
Casey Hudson himself already led the pre-prduction
Get a sneak peek at the next chapter of the Mass Effect universe. A veteran team at BioWare is in the early stages of what is on the horizon for the Mass Effect franchise, and we are excited to show you where we’ll be heading next!
Much of the original trilogy team is working on it
Drew Karpyshyn isn't writing it, though
The writer is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_DeMarle
She's a good writer
Andromeda was helmed by a B team at BioWare, but the next entry is helmed by series veterans and their A team.
Personally I'm pretty excited for it.
Did you miss the recent N7 Day teasers with the cryptic voice lines from Liara?
And the new concept art?
Development is in full swing at this point
I could see us getting full trailers for it in 2023/2024, possibly release in 2024/2025
Given that Liara was only 106 years old in the original trilogy and Liara is clearly set to return in ME5 and it looks like humanity is building some sort of new megastructure, this entry could involve a time skip of up to about 900 years.
Basically all we have is an upper bound on the timeline.
My beloved blue space wife
ugh
im trying to play Arkham Asylum and its not working even after an uninstall and reinstall
You gotta be more specific
Describe what happens including the exact text of any error messages to the best of your ability

but then when i click play
this window comes up
Do you have a graphics card in your computer?
i dont know
Looks like it's missing a DirectX file of some sort
Can you press windows+r to open the run menu, then type dxdiag and run that?
It will tell you what version of DirectX you have, and what type of GPU you have
this is what it says
Okay now the "display" tab
Oh you have a surface laptop go
It doesn't have a GPU other than the one integrated with your CPU. That could be the problem
does this mean i cant play the game?
I found this solution but it might not work
Just follow this little guide to fix your game and have fun. I got this error and started googling but could not find any proper answer but eventually found out how to fix it and decided to post it so I can help out others. ːsteamhappyː Go to: Program Files (86x)/steam/steamapps/common/Batman Arkham Asylum/redist Here you first go to the DirectX...
You should still be able to play the game
Try to go through the game's graphic settings
Turn off PhysX and set the graphics to the lowest they are to start. You can try raising them later
Also I recommend https://getsharex.com/ if you want to share a lot of screenshots in the future. It makes it a lot easier to handle and take them
it wont even let me access the settings
Same error or a different one?
same
Hmm
i could always just refund and get a different game, whcih sucks but it's whatever
Okay
Run the installer in
Steam \ steamapps \ common \ Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY \ redist \ DirectX \ DXSETUP
Then try again
Great!
thanks so much
If you lowered the settings you can raise them until you reach a comfortable balance
Or max them out. The game is old enough you should be able to
hopefully i dont have to go through all this again when I play Arkham City
You might, but probably not
Good job working that out.
Steam is suppused to install anything required when you download a game, such as directX (and a lot of games use different directX versions, I think that one uses version 9) but sometimes it won't.

weird, I've never had a problem like this
I think I’ve only had one game fail to install the prerequisites through Steam. It can happen though, I think the devs define the prerequisites through their Steam page?? It’s possible to miss one I suppose.

Peach has got it!
can you link the texture pack
Note: i recorded the video without the white outline because I haven't added it yet to the texture pack. I'm still working on it.
The texture pack is becoming huge at 4K with each update!
Remember this pack is still in progress so changes might happen.
Thank you for your support!

I love it when games have destructible environments/objects. I had the most fun in Counter-Strike: Source destroying computers and stuff in cs_office and many other maps.

so, to switch gears, thanks to @river veldt bein awesome i now own slay the spire
i basically only know two things about it, "cards" and "roguelike". allegedly there are also tower(s). so lets see how it goes!
C:
The biggest newbie trap for Slay the Spire is new players tend to go too hard on the analysis and pick cards that fit very well together, forgetting that sometimes you can be better off choosing cards that are good on their own
any settings ud recommend changin?
I would recommend "Fast Mode" when you get to grips with the game
Fast mode is great
Just speeds up animations
yes these are all actual voicelines in the game

Same at the bottom
A quote from Arthur on the seal
It was a really good campaign
Every character that appears I RDR has a background of what looks like Armadillo in New Austin while the characters only in RDR2 have a forest background
Except for Bill
He's in the original RDR but he's got forest
Just some hammer goodness, also I expected to get fireballed.

on an unrelated note, Minecraft 1.19.3 crashes on startup with both vanilla launcher and PrismLauncher for me. Did anyone else have a similar issue? (The game is 100% vanilla, no mods)
1.19.3 worked on the same PC until I changed graphics cards, even though all other games run fine right now
What GPU is it?
It probably is a driver issue.
Or maybe its just Minecraft needing a reinstall.
Or java...
If you have both integrated and dedicated graphics, it could have something to do with switching between them, maybe?
it's a desktop PC, only the dedicated GPU is enabled
the game's splash screen does show up, it crashes at the end of the Mojang splash screen
You may need to clean install the GPU drivers.
The Nvidia installer has a handy checkbox for that
I'm on Linux, already have a recent proprietary driver installed from RPMFusion (525.60.11)
Oh, that's a pretty important thing to point out
anyway, here's a crash trace: https://hastebin.com/rudumejewe.sql
This is with PrismLauncher, but I had the same issue with the stock launcher running outside Flatpak
I also tried 1.19.2 and it crashes in the same area (DataFixer)
Absolutely no clue, then
oh, you know what's fun? I installed the Fabulously Optimized modpack via PrismLauncher and it works
(it's based on Fabric)
# /home/hugo/.var/app/org.prismlauncher.PrismLauncher/data/PrismLauncher/instances/1.19.3/.minecraft/hs_err_pid43.log```
You may want to fetch that one
Yeah, I was assuming this was Windows.
yeah, I did, that's the same file. It's a JRE crash
It’s either a JRE crash or prism launcher crashing, it’s unclear from what you posted
I got it working anyway with the modpack
heh, beautiful CPU bottleneck (on a 13900K no less)… I get ~1090 FPS both in the default window size and 4K
I haven't tried toying around with shader packs yet, nor with Minecraft RTX
though Quake 2 RTX at 120 FPS (or even 240 FPS in 1080p) is a treat
still getting 230 FPS, with render + shadow distance set to 32
I’ve found that there’s not very much that manages to go sub-120 FPS on a 4090 + 13900K system on max graphics settings at the moment.
I'm using this shader pack, literally the first shader pack I've tried since 2011 😛 https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/customization/solas-shader
I remember playing with early Minecraft shaders. Depth of field and world curvature were all we had
we were also super happy to see parallax mapping on HD texture packs, bringing my laptop down to 8 FPS
I just found THE coolest Wild West theme of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xWtqc4ERo4A
It goes HARD.
are you sure about that

Mario Party 2 is a game for the N64. This is the music for the board, Western Land
Enjoy!
GTA V does this for me if I enable extended distance scaling (that's a huge performance killer). I had to disable it, and also stick to 2× MSAA to get 120 FPS in most areas. I still don't get 120 FPS in every situation, some grassy areas drop me to 70 FPS or so
This one is good too, very happy-go-lucky, but it sounds more befitting of an old-fashioned ranch. The Timesplitters one is better for the Wild West as a whole, because it was really a rough and tumble place of outlaws, mercenaries, and explorers.
Ahhh, you've discovered the Miner's Curse of shaders: being able to see EVERY exposed ore glowing in the dark distance. It's both amazing and infuriating, because now you just NEED to get every single ore that you see.
no armor, no food, no weapon, not even stone tools, and someone is in a cave like that ... that's someone who likes disaster.

I still remember Max0r video about DMC5 with this mod

it's the best mod

The analysts blame the fact that it’s a single-player game for the sales shortcomings. That’s… an interesting take.
"PUBG was a huge success, and this one is a huge failure. What is the problem?"
"Well, let's see what is the difference...Ah! One is multiplayer and one is single-player."
"You are indeed a genius"
They were shooting for 5 million copies but only got two million
It probably doesn’t help that a Dead Space remake is coming out soon, so it’s competing against that.
I didn't buy it because when it came out literally everyone said it was mediocre at best
Yeah, pretty much all the reviews said that.
And performance issues on PC as well didn't help
It's an unrealistic expectation for a new ip unless you get lucky.
Indeed, even if you're riding on being the co-creator of a successful IP like Dead Space.

bro this is included with EA Play?!?!?!??!
EA play is basically EA's version of xbox game pass
So quite a lot of stuff is on there
I'm aware
It's just funny to see a game for cheaper than the subscription price, lmao

Has anyone here ever played Legends Of Equestria? I still do, no regrets~
Why would anyone regret playing a videogame?
I don't know, but I know some few always do
ikr
Thats an insane amount of weight put on the wall
thats awesome
watching Markiplier play Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe and goddamn the skip button ending is horrifying
i thought this game was supposed to be funny
ah that was a good one
Stanley Parable has a handful of endings that take on a much more serious tone
i dont remmeber any in the original being this terrifying
to what extent that's "black comedy" and to what extent it's setting the jokes aside to make its real point is debatable
i guess maybe the one where you climb the staircase and jump off? idk
the two endings after the phone choice are what come to mind for me
oh yeah that one too
gah my memory of the original is fuzzy cuz i dont remember the phone choice lol
sadly there's no official set of ending names or I'd just use those
but if you answer the phone you get what I'm used to calling the Apartment ending, where the narrator mocks you for not having a life and then laments how you never stop working
and if you unplug the phone you get what I like to think of as the true ending where the narrator concludes you're a real person capable of making choices, lectures you on how important it is to use this power wisely, but the narrative cohesion of the game falls apart anyway, and after it all collapses you're stuck outside the world watching the narrator beg an immobile Stanley to make a choice
oh
can you imagine how that sounds to someone who's never experienced TSP
lmao
and then there's the part where you get brainwashed by a bucket into watching silly bird videos /s (or I guess half-/s?)
lol
i dont remmeber most of these but i did watch a full playthrpugh checks notes 8 years ago
pop quiz!
there is one ending that has a canonical name in-game, which is it?
Broom CLoset!!
is not an ending but you're not exactly wrong either
what was the correct answer that was the only one that came to mind
8
OMG i remember the Adventure Line!!!!!
8
do you still have the fern memorized?
8
it's going to come up someday
no
a lot has been forgotten over 8 years ok ix
Did y'all save the baby on repeat for 4 hours? (I think it was 4 hours)
in the Stanley Parable Hyper Extra Re-Deluxe
hell no lol
most of the people who get that ending fiddle with the in-game clock speed to make it saner
wait Ix have you played Beginner's Guide
yes and I loved it
That game was... hella depressing
i still dont think i fully understand what the point was though. like, I know ||Davey was the one putting the lampposts at where he thought the games should end, but beyond that im still a little confused||
which is fair, the story is intentionally ambiguous about ||what Coda was really thinking||, not to mention ||how many other changes Davey might've made without telling us||, and I don't think there's "a" single point being made
ooh ok
the obligatory pretentious answer is that it's meant to challenge your way of thinking about the relationship between work, creator and audience, in particular how all three are indispensable parts of the artistic process and most of our reactions to our and others' art ultimately say more about ourselves than the art
which I do think is part of it, but mostly it's just fun to use big words like that
huh, i never really thought of the idea that ||Davey might have altered other things, but that totally makes sense considering the lampposts and other things he edited like that one game where you're supposed to climb a staircase but it slows to a crawl and he makes it so if you press shift you'll go normal speed||
IIRC there's also ||the prison door opening early|| and ||the chores cycle going on forever|| and ||skipping the maze in that first game|| and one or two others I'm blanking on
yes! i remember those too
the ||lampposts|| is definitely the biggest one that you aren't told about the first several times it comes up, but that we know for sure is a change
ye
anyway
if one wishes The Beginner's Guide to have a straightforward "point", I'd probably say it's ||a cautionary tale about projecting your own problems onto others, confusing social and parasocial relationships, and ultimately throwing away a friendship that had no good reason to end||
there are a lot of really cool game ideas in that game
I know
that was more or less my take too, that and ||the idea of forcing your own meaning onto things that have none or saying that you know the artist via their work||
also some cool non-game ideas
just a lot of cool ideas yea
I really really love the cleaning one, it makes me really happy for some reason
speaking of "our reactions [...] say more about ourselves"
I went through quite a few cycles of that one, I forget if I kept going after Davey told me to stop but I might've
indeed lol
i watched a playthrough so i wasnt really able to continue if i wanted to lol
Why? It's pretty much the same when I watch or play it
i disagree
TSP/TBG are simultaneously the best and worst case studies for "should I play the game or just watch an LP"
the way you experience things is different when you're watching somoene else experience it
the worst, because the content is fundamentally static, mostly consisting of looking at rooms and listening to narration, and you're going to see and hear all of that in any half-competent LP
I played parts of it and watched parts and I feel like I got as much out of it when I watched as when I played
the best, because the point of both is about the relationship between player and game, so actively playing them yourself makes that whole conversation much more natural
like when I play the Skip Button ending and spend a few extra minutes trying to find any way of making progress that doesn't make the narrator sad
idk back in 2016 when i watched it i didnt have a computer to play it and i was curious
personally my only strong opinion is that TSP/TBG are awesome and watching them is far better than not experiencing them at all
of course if you want to get extra meta and pretentious you could then argue that for someone who mostly watches LPs rather than plays games, "merely" watching TSP/TBG is the optimal mode of engagement because that's how they normally engage with other games
iirc there was a game that totally called me out on watching a playthrough rather than playing it
did your LP show the broom closet door boarded up after you ran out of ways to annoy the narrator with it?
no Mark didnt continue to do it hehe
it was totally the genocide route for UNdertale
makes sense
The joke is not as good if you see it while actually playing
finally got Fallout New Vegas mods working, should i install TTW again or nah?
you need clean copies of F3 + NV
nvm
Hm. Supposed leak that the free epic game this week is the gta remaster stuff that came out last year
lmao
I'd probably play it for free, the price so far was always too steep to buy it
not much has been done by modders to fix the game though, unfortunately

I think I know how I'm going to play
Work "with" the NCR but bleed them dry with my ninja skills and load myself up on their stuff
Lawful Evil, doing what I do not because it's moral, but because it's for the "greater good"

NCR has too much red tape? Fuck it, I'll do it myself.

I thoguht you died Stadia
In case you missed it.
Yes it did.
Just read the tweet.
Also, FYI...
You can't switch back after updating, this is a permanent update.
It will turn off WIFI and use Bluetooth Low Power Mode, audio devices may not work on the controller.
Was the controller ever all that special anyway?
But yeah, what mods do you have on Doom?
Project Brutality 3.0, flashlight, enhanced episode 1 lighting, Dars music, and bullet time
20 less fps isn't much when you're getting 150 though
Also I never hear the fans go on while playing
Oh don't enable bloom btw.

I don't know why but the method that it uses for bloom is extremely expensive.
Interesting

So far my M2 mac likes emulating ps2 at 5120x3584 with EE only at around 45%.
Playing burnout 3
Waiting for the intro video to pass through cause I didn't transfer a save file
Gotta see how it goes in an actual race
Ok only 50% speed in an actual race
Can't go to 5120x3584. Maxed out the GPU. Not like that resolution is anywhere near useful in a ps2 game
Looks like I can do 2560x1792p with full speed
Went down to 1920x1344 cause the frame pacing was all weird and it dropped a bit still
Wow this laptop feels hot
god the update made the fight more intense
is this roblox?

Good game
Especially after Aquatico

so far: very disappointed in it
really gotta stop buying the surviving series from paradox, none of them are related to surviving mars
it has potential, but so did surviving the apocalypse
Seems they're trying to recapture the lightning in a bottle of surviving mars but just not quite getting there
I'm definitely not super interested in playing those kind of games in early access personally
The survival builder genere, more than anything else, is the kind of game that lives and dies on its balance
Rare sale on Rimworld
So i probably want to play the final version rather than go on with a EA game that is still getting tweaked
Yeah, was disappointed in StA. It had a lot of potential but the gameplay was just not well thought out.

Another announcement from DnD beyond. This one actually contains an apology now that they realized people don't need them.
This time they're a lot more careful not to say anything wrong
Even put a specific person's name behind the announcement
On or before Friday, January 20th, we’ll share new proposed OGL documentation for your review and feedback, much as we do with playtest materials.
After you review the proposed OGL, you will be able to fill out a quick survey–much like Unearthed Arcana playtest feedback surveys. It will ask you specific questions about the document and include open form fields to share any other feedback you have.
The survey will remain open for at least two weeks, and we’ll give you advance notice before it closes so that everyone who wants to participate can complete the survey. Then we will compile, analyze, react to, and present back what we heard from you.
Just another day in Fallout
Turns out the DLC pre-order 10mm pistol does not interact well with mods (the actual in game weapon modifications, not modding the game)
ironically there's a mod that fixes the mod
Truth is Mr. House... Game was rigged from the start.
Even double tapped for good measure
and then Bloody Mess proc'd and I blew off his goddamn leg.
Bitch. Ass.
finished 100%ing Ender Lilies, watching a speedrun and a lore deep dive video; I think it might finally be time to move on to some other game
Hollow Knight is probably still my favorite "Soulslike Metroidvania", but Blasphemous and Ender Lilies are extremely close seconds
The Tomb Raider Free Special Pack rappels into PWS on all platforms on January 31st, alongside PlayStation 4/5 and Nintendo Switch launches! 💦

Thanks to D&D Beyond for sponsoring this episode of Critical Role! Check out https://www.dndbeyond.com fo...
DnD is kinda cool actually
the only Critical Role thing I've consumed is their Doom Eternal one shot
Just remember that Critical Role is professional actors. Most DMs and players can't match that standard.
I certainly can't.
If you give the game a try, cut your DM some slack and just have fun.
As a DM I find being Matt Mercer quite easy
Maw maw maw how do you want to do this?
I don't actually like that he popularized that. I usually narrated killing blows, so things seemed fairly logical and consistent. Players sometimes come up with the wildest stuff.
It's fine if you trust your players to be exactly as creative as you are and no more, and if they enjoy it
To each their own. I usually ask players if they want to narrate a kill if it is massive overkill, like 10 points past their remaining hp or more. Otherwise I just narrate something grounded, but lethal.
I just ask when I feel like it
Every table is different and that is perfectly fine. Good even!
What are some missions in your favorite games that you hate to replay, and why?
Personally I'm putting two RDR2's missions there
Debt Collecting And Other Sins, along with the one where you go save Micha
X-ATM092 optional boss in Final Fantasy 8. It's the best
I asked for missions you disliked
Sometimes you have to
I have other games
Both of these are story missions you have to complete
And they both directly lead to the downfall of the gang/Arthur
They also just don't feel good
I can see how you might not like them
I don't like the GTA story mission where you torture a guy
That's GTA V
Also
Skyrims quest where you have to go read the dragon wall or whatever it is
It's just so boring
I just stopped playing the game after I finished that one
That's why I play Skyrim on PC. If I get a really boring mission I simply cheat and fast forward
Yeah in DCAOS from RDR2 you (spoilers for chapter 2)
||Beat a sick man to death over a few dollars and then contract TB||
Rockstar needs to cater to my delicate sensibilities and offer a skip
Also Fallout 4 is another offender when it comes to missions that are boring on your second playthrough
I'm looking at you, opening "gameplay" and Kellogg memory mission
But actually for real, not a joke
Fallout 4 has a LOT of boring missions, but the world is pretty great
Oh for sure
Bethesda is great at side missions and world design
But the main story in so many of their games is just uuuuuhhhhg
Like look at Fo3
I never wanna play the vault intro again.
It was great the first time
Good introduction to the atmosphere of Fo3
Don't wanna slog through it more than once
I'm glad they had the foresight to allow you to start exploring real fast
Oh hold on
I think I use a mod for that on 4
Yep
Still, you can keep a save right after the tutorial
To skip the intro
Yep
Also I hate how much railroading is in 4 (pardon the pun)
Maybe I don't want to play a character who's looking for her lost kid
But I'm forced to
I can't walk 3 feet without my character telling quest people "hey have you seen my stolen baby who I had before the bombs fell because that's where I'm from, the pre war times but I was frozen?"
At least Skyrim had the decency to let you be some random nobody for as long as you want
It's great to have a personable character with clear motives, but not in a sandbox game like this
If I wanted to play a game for a main story
I wouldn't be playing a Bethesda RPG
I'd play Bioshock or something
Anyway
Yeah I also hated getting Micha out of jail
I delay doing that mission in RDR2 as long as possible every time
Which sucks because you can't unlock the best guns until you do
I'm trying to think of a part that fits the question in Portal 2 but I'm struggling
Portal 2 is just fun
Well I don't play portal 2 for the puzzles
There is a mod for Fallout 4 that removes every mention of you being Shawn's parent or being from a vault.
What else is there?
It is part of one of the alternate start mods.
The writing
Might as well watch a Let's Play
I shall see if it's available on xbox
Later
I wonder how many people played Fo3 just to hear Liam Neeson talk to them as a father figure
I don't have the word Liam Neeson tied to a face or a voice
He's just a random actor to me
I think he specializes in uh
Westerns?
He played your father in Fo3
Oh he's a Star Warser
I haven't finished Fallout 3 in forever
Every time I think of playing 3 I end up choosing 4 or New Vegas instead
I recognize Liam Neeson most as Ra's al Ghul and Qui-Gon Jinn lol
some would say you're a blasphemer for that, a lot of people hold FO3 way higher than FO4
i remember hearing very negative things about fo4
People see 3 with rose tinted glasses. It is clunky compared to NV.
Don't get me wrong, I love the game, it was a sizeable chunk of my childhood, but it hasn't aged well.
I keep hearing that NV is peak Fallout and 3, 4 and 76 don't come close to it
and that the original 2 are also really good as well
NV shows its age a little too, but it is much better put together than 3 and with a stunningly well designed world and story. Is good game.
i always thought people liked 4 more than 3
is there only 1 Commander Keen game?
theres only 1 on Steam for some reason

I thought this was common knowledge

oh among us is in the game!
so is Fancy Pants Man and the guy from Getting Over IT!
pretty cool
Steam package combined the first 5 episodes (Invasion of the Vorticons and Goodbye, Galaxy), but it does not have the rest (Keen Dreams and Aliens Ate My Babysitter).
there's a lot in this game (smaller list is all the characters you'll be able to control yourself, and the bigger list is characters you can "summon")
entirely indie rep
and the head of the project is the person who made super smash flash (and super smash flash 2)

I often wonder how much other people tend to replay games (assume "one play" counts as seeing all the content for stuff like roguelikes or Stanley Parable's dozen endings or whatever)
I basically always do a single playthrough, if I like the game I try to do "everything" that first time, and the very few that get a replay are long after my first play
and I get the impression most games are designed around this assumption; NG+s and cutscene skipping and so on are relatively "easy" to provide, but things like cutscenes/in-game tutorial/balance and other design choices always seem skewed heavily toward avoiding a first-timer dropping the game
it depends on the game, games like dark souls/elden ring i can play a bunch because of variaty builds feeling different
fallout 3+nv also has enough options that every playthrough feels unique, fallout 4 less so apart from right at the end with your faction choice
I think the class/build thing is often trying to thread the needle and serve both crowds, because often when those systems are done right, the one-playthrough-only crowd will pick whatever they enjoy most the first time around and have the best first run even if they never play again
granted I don't actually play Fromsoft games or Bethesda RPGs so it's hard to comment directly on those, but when I think of something like charms in Hollow Knight, I was 100% heals and nail damage because that's just how I like to play those games, and I know other people went heavy into soul and spellcasting charm builds
charms dont feel like different playthroughs though, your choice in hollow knight is basically path, different weapons/builds in fromsoft change the entire game feel
ok, I guess I'll just have to take your word for it then
fire emblem three houses is way better if you play it four times to see every route because the story will never feel complete if you only see one
yeah that's exactly the sort of thing I had in mind with
(assume "one play" counts as seeing all the content for stuff like roguelikes or Stanley Parable's dozen endings or whatever)
only reasons I'd replay something like that is if there's something new (dlc and what have you), or if I want to see if I've gotten better or worse (in terms of strictly roguelikes)
there's prolly other reasons, but I'm too tired to remember them if there are other reasons
on a totally unrelated note, I think I'm going to start playing Rain World today
might stream that if anyone's interested
HUH?
So they can literally call the game Free Fire featuring Dante from Devil May Cry
ok, time to try Rain World or Fallout: 8-bit Catslug or whatever this weird niche game is supposed to be
Lemme know how it is, I have it and I have been waiting to give it a go when the mood strikes me Hollow Knight withdrawal sympthoms become too much.
so far I don’t think HK is much of a comparison point
bruh persona 3 portable can run at 120fps
the fuck is this atlus we need that smoothness that bad???

I'm gonna throw this at people who make fun of me for liking vanilla
You don't get it
They like modded Minecraft because they like it when they can do their job without butting heads with the management or other people
neat, now when's persona 2

Incidentally this is exactly why I don’t like factorio
I do enough of this at work, and if I’m in the mood for it I have approximately six billion side projects
theres something satisfying about a working system, something i have never made at my work
Yeah I feel you
I have so little interest in proceeding to do it in a video game
factorio
I wanna play Dyson Sphere Program but I'm very easily irritated by bad translations to English
Thankfully the bad translations are largely constrained to the tutorial dialogue
I found out through a screenshot out of the tutorial
I kinda like how blocky this model is
I think Ubisoft Connect got slightly off the rails here
(I probably have 120-150h in practice, certainly not 3,000+)
i have like 8,876 hours on a game since 2019
according to my xbox

Oh did they do another pass
unfortunately I think I'm gonna have to drop Rain World, weirdly, for exactly the same reasons I dropped Dark Souls and Sekiro
I like the general aesthetic, I_want_ to love the core gameplay loop, and kinda did for the first few hours, but the mechanics are so obtuse/unexplained, and the difficulty so unbalanced that 90% of my game time ends up being repeating stuff I've already done, and in the end it's just not possible to make real progress without keeping my eyes glued to a walkthrough, which sucks most of the fun out of it
Makes sense
I mean, as you might expect almost everything you said makes me want to play it more but it makes sense that you wouldn't like it since those are elements you disliked in other games
I did expect you to say that lol
I'll see because I have a spotty record for 2d games, but if the exploration is "good" enough, (and with good I don't know what I mean, it's just an unquantifiable subjective feeling that I get when I play that makes me want to see more of the places of that game) I'll probably like it.
