I think a Quake reboot would be cool
We'll see
I don't even know what else id has done before
I wanna be excited for id’s next thing but also Marty Stratton sucks
If they did that they'd have to get Trent back though
Other than Dum
id's main three franchises are Quake, Doom, and Wolfenstein
I highly recommend Quake 1 if you like retro shooters
It's really good
I really wanna try wolfenstein
I haven't played any Wolfenstein games so I can't really comment on that
Cap we still need to crossplay Quake 1
We do!!

Is this Sonic
I see a dragon I am happy
Sweep
Did you see that there's a rumour that there might be a Sonic Adventure remaster
Aye, I’d love that
Sonic Adventure DX 2?
The current release of SA1 is based on the DX version which makes some changes I’m not super into, a full remaster might be closer to what I liked in the original version
Mainly with the textures

Spee...
Sorry I saw the opportunity to link a Cybershell video
I like Sonic
I hate Sonic
Wtf banned
No he didn't he would never do something like that
Behold, my one official Dreamcast game
Maybe it was Shadow
The rest may or may not be burned
Hell yeah he did
capmario, have u tried out frontiers
Yea
I'm playing through it
I'm taking my time with it cuz big mainline Sonic games don't come out too often
Does it feel different enough from BotW cause I remember there being a lot of comparisons when it was first revealed
Yeah it's pretty different
I mean really the only similarities are that there's a big overworld with small little puzzles to solve
Small and little? I’m impressed
Dark Souls 1 has 28 merchants, almost all of whom have a decent amount of talking lines. 14 story and covenant NPCs, and a total of 54 in all categories combined with some overlap between categories.
It might not seem like it, but the series games have plenty of NPCs.
Now that I think about it I find it funny how GT, who originally asked the Dark Souls question, was completely absent for most of that conversation

When will they add Sonic to Dark Souls
dank soils
I haven't yet played 1
It's a funny game
I think game developers should wait for me to be done with all games before they release new ones
I'd wait for it to go on sale though
I played Escape Goat and that was great
"wait I haven't played Mario Bros yet!!"
Had to iron my dress pants for Friday, and then polish my parade boots. Bloody things never polish very well at all.
Aw man, Goat Simulator 3 isn't coming to Switch yet
Farming Sim just dropped a new expansion based on the Pacific Northwest. 🚜

You add it when you create the post with that dark square there on the right.
If nobody else has sent a message in the forum post, you can also reply to the main post with a picture and Discord will ask you if you want to add it. It has to be the first message for that to work, though.
It's beginning to get really hard to expand in Europe https://i.imgur.com/Jx8kjtp.png
The coalition against me has over a million troops
And two million more that can be called up.
My best strategy so far is to either wait for the coalition to disband or diplomatically vassalize parts of the holy Roman empire when I can.
In the past I was able to fight off the coalition by expanding elsewhere first
And then using the resources from trade to bolster my European troops
My goal for this France run is just to get the 7 morale achievements and while I wait do as much of the French mission tree as possible
France is a good nation for land morale since they have an idea that gives 20%
One trick that was popular was to offer land from your allies in a peace deal if things turned south.
Problem is my allies are garbage. I can't keep too many allies because my relationships are all vassals
And expanding through vassals is faster but less controlled than expanding through conquest. I think doing a little bit of both is important
One trick I've been doing is to win a war and instead of asking for land I release small nations and diplomatically vassalize them later
This prevents aggressive expansion from building up as quickly
That is another trick. Just takes more time and burns a different mana.
...damn, this is a hard one.
Zelda or RE4 for me
All of them except RE4 for me.
Wtf
Im not a huge fan of harry potter
I've never played Resident Evil
WHAT
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I'm rooting for FF16, even though I know it's not gonna win.
I really really want to vote for three of them XD
I'm pretty equally excited for Hogwarts Legacy, BotW2 and Starfield. FFXVI is a close second.
Sounds like a reasonable reason to pirate it, then.
Is FFXV the one with the boy band
Yeah, FFXV is boyband road trip simulator.
I'm not interested in FF games that aren't set in the FFVII universe unfortunately
You should consider 14
Hyped for Crisis Core coming to Switch in December :pippwiggle:
Perhaps
I've never played an mmo before though
14 is easily the best overall MMO out there right now. (Been true for about ten years now)
The one game that consistently makes me cry and blows my mind.
I've watched gameplay and there's so many menus and icons and the UI is overwhelming and ajsjdjfjxksjd
On the other hand I have about 1400 hours poured into it
1 through 6 were all awesome. 7 was "modern", but also cyberpunk mixed with steampunk mixed with classic fantasy, and it was awesome. 8...again, not a very endearing setting. 9 was utterly amazing. 10 was amazing. 11 I never really saw that much of and you can't really see that much of it anymore, so eh, skip. 12 was awesome. 13 was...a thing. 14 IS AWESOME!!!! 15 is...meh. 16 is shaping up to be awesome once again.
It actually gradually introduces all the options to you over a long period of time. You start out with next to nothing.
It's easy to pick up
I'll be voting for Sonic Movie 2
Well I'm not gonna pirate the game if I can't play it on my PC
Trust me Cap, you would LOVE FF9. It's more medieval/fantasy than 7 was, but it's got one of the best stories and some of the best characters in the history of Final Fantasy.
Where do I vote at
But maybe I will pirate it when I finally have a good PC
I've never even seen it
I went with Arcane. Arcane and Cyberpunk are close but Arcane wins out in the end for superior art direction and narrative achievement.
Sonic is a great contender, but it's overshadowed
You should, it's a great movie!
yes, you should
The two sonic movies are actually really good
The sequel is better than the first one
Yeah I already know Arcane will win but a girl can dream
I want to see it
Arcane is the best game adaptation ever.
Thank
And just by itself is a great series
I know nothing of League of Legends but was still blown away by the show
Cyberpunk was never going to win, as good as it was, same with Sonic. All three contenders are great on their own, but Arcane is just on a completely different level than the other two. My heart wants to pick Sonic, but my mind knows that Arcane is the winner, hands down.
I refuse to watch Arcane because I refuse to know anything about LoL /s
Im still voting Cyberpunk
It's fine, Arcane has basically nothing to do with the game
Yeah
Yeah and it got big so fast
No, it was out in 2021.
Late 2021, though
From wikipedia:
The series was announced at the League of Legends 10th anniversary celebration in 2019, and first released in November 2021. Following the conclusion of the first season, Riot Games and Netflix announced that a second season was in production for a post-2022 release.
Too late to be considered for nomination
I never even finished it
I still can't believe that Riot Games literally spoiled so much of Arcane with Jinx's introduction music video.
I know Arcane is gonna win but I still want Cyberpunk to win
HUUUUUUUUUUUH?????
(spoilers: Signalis)
is that sarcastic?
to be fair neither does Cyberpunk
So the Steam Deck interface is now somewhat usable on desktop and can be enabled in the Steam Client using -newbigpicture https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110/view/3388424091283734940
Interesting enough, the size of the new interface is smaller than the old one a tiny bit. It also calls itself 'steamui' instead of reusing 'tenfoot' (legacy big picture). I guess y'all should expect tenfoot to be removed soon, or deprecated.
Also contains new video and audio files from the deck, I guess Valve really is starting to renovate Steam after many years at least in big picture.
So yeah, fun facts to know!
so! who here likes shoot-em-ups?
Can confirm. I recently built an overkill computer for this purpose. This client is still buggy, but it works quite well enough to deem it a successful gaming console.
It automatically boots to that new GUI
This Steam Deck style GUI is indeed replacing legacy Big Picture mode.
Ahh, expired license agreements. Give it a bit of time and they might renegotiate the contracts.

Once you see the ||puff and dots it's all over||
Doesn't help that the artstyle is basic as shit
Some I Wanna Be the Guy type of art

I literally got the same

Yes everyone gets the same game every day
All issues of Nintendo Power have recently been uploaded.
No like I got the same score
I just said it to not spam the chat with scores

I find it funny how obvious the last 2 images make it
Yeah usually the last 2 you are going to get it if you are even barely familiar with the game
Unless it's a pokemon game and you don't play pokemon games
Or same thing with mario games
Every time one of those 2 shows up, I just pick random titles from the list

Wow , biohazard ☣️
I love how every single person gets the answer at the third pic

What a strange pokemon.
wait, they're working on a sequel? why, the first game was mediocre at best
The first game had the benefit of coming out at the start of the zombie craze.
I liked it...
Nine years is how long TF2 had been delayed. "After nine years in development, hopefully it would have been worth the wait."
Starting disco elysium for the first time... Any votes? (Otherwise I was thinking of a character with 3/3/3/3 to be perfectly average but I suspect I wouldn't have any special actions that are available to maxed stats)
Fuckit, going physical

Its been in development hell since 2014
That’s a match made in hell.
You play EU4??? I love eu4 bro
Just got the holy horde achievement. Honestly not that hard
Did have a problem where Muscovy fell into a PU under big boy Austria so I had to fight him

What's a stormbringer
Steam deck comes to Asia next year
Well, Mass Effect Legendary Edition appears to have picked up a crash. The final battle sequence in ME1 crashes when it's switching between engine rendering and playing a pre-rendered cutscene.
What a time to discover it.
Weird that didnt happen with me
It didn't happen the first time I played through Legendary Edition
But it's crashing 100% of the time on the new computer
I wonder if it's a driver bug or something
i really hope you enjoy the game! it is so good
i generally start with 3-4-1-4 and visual calc as my signature; it does make me squishy but i know how to make money in this game just fine (n heal items are fairly common if you know where to look)
It's my next game to complete, I just i guess failed very early on
so your run is probably gonna be fairly different from my usual affair. also given u got points in physical, please punch the fascist in the face for me when the time comes. u'll know when
I was taking it very carefuly for the most part so I might start again go psychological
||I failed at the bookstore girl's questioning so it's super early||
Finish Metal Gear Rising on last difficulty on maximum rank (no damage in 99% fights)
And especially no deaths
that is also fine! ill tell you a secret; i think save scumming is totally fine thing to do
it should be noted that sometimes the failed outcome is actually the better outcome, but also like. sometimes the game will troll you n fail a 90% chance roll so

i dunno, i save n reload without shame
probably better to try n fiddle with that in second or more run, but the game is riddled with incredible moment if you succeed or fail this or that check accordingly
oh! nah dont worry, you'll "fail" plenty, plenty of times. you genuinely arent meant to succeed literally every roll there is, so its fine!
in the entirety of game there is like. one check thats actually vital to pass (in the sense that you'd be locked out of the ending if you dont pass it), and thats a) way later in the game and b) has so many modifiers to it that can improve your chances that you'd have to actively try to fail it and c) every time you invest a point in a skill, the checks for that skill open up again so u can give it another shot

@quiet swift i have three pro tips for you, if you'd like your gamin experience to be more smooth sailing:
one: get a plastic bag and equip it asap. when you leave the whirling in rags, move down-left and down the set of stairs. theres a plastic bag on the ground. when equipped, it lets you collect bottles that can be exchanged for reál later, so you can buy extra medicine if needed.
two: talk to lena (the older lady in wheelchair in whirling's base floor) until she advises you to talk to someone who would help you "get a reality lowdown". then head left-up on the map aaaaaall the way to the pier. there you'll find joyce. chat with her until you gain a thought called "jamais vu" once internalized, every single orb you click will get you one exp. it is, so overpowered, you'll be positively rolling in skill points. so later down the line you can increase your chances to get all the fun hard checks.
three: also with joyce, there is a check that can get you the required money needed to pay your debt to whirling.
can you tell i really enjoyed this game
..... i should play it for the third time

Meanwhile a certain swedish streamer and one of my acquaintances in another server are getting me to want to play dwarf fortress. With mods and a tile set, though.

so I've been thinking about finally trying Sekiro
my main concern is whether it has any of the problems I had with Dark Souls 1, where the information you need to make any progress cannot be discovered without either seeking internet help or far more trial and error than is fun (e.g. dozens of attempts at a fight, not 3-5 attempts), especially about where in the world you can go or what gear you need to stand a fighting chance
is there anyone familiar with both games who can vouch for that?
It's quite different as far as I heard
Fights especially
I never got a sale deep enough to afford Sekiro
part of the reason I'm thinking about it now is that it's half off (which for me is enough to risk it)
I'm looking for twice that. 70% or so
yeah, I figured
Anyway, combat is different in that parries are a lot more important or something, but puzzling scenarios can still easily happen. You'll need to learn how to play observantly
right, I like games that reward paying attention; that's not the fear
If your problem was that Dark Souls didn't explain itself well enough, Sekiro is probably a good idea.
It's much less of a RPG and a bit more of an action game
As a result, it has a lot less mechanics to explain
cool, that's what I was hoping it was
Or to conceal as things may be
The biggest hidden mechanics come from clever use of ninja tools, so make sure you try them out in different scenarions and against different enemies, to see if they make fights easier for you
Don't forget the invisible fuckers
Also stealth is very powerful and can sometimes be used in unexpected situations
You only have the one sword so you don't have to worry about finding or upgrading weapons or armor
Also damage and health upgrades are obtained by killing main bosses or mini bosses respectively
There were a few points where I had trouble figuring out where I was supposed to go but that's about it
Sekiro has an elegant aspect to its encounters, given that they know which tools you have access to, they definitely deliver a more consistent experience
Yes
While in other souls game, you may turn up with spells, or a whip, or a sword, or whatever else, so they need to build the encounters to work no matter what, and they can't built them specifically for the tools you have
Most of the best from soft bosses are in sekiro imo
heh, my experience with DS1 (after the first few bosses I could handle) was that the tools I turned up were never an option at all, and every single internet video of the encounter had far better gear I had no idea how to get
It's not necessarily easier but when you are there, getting pounded to dust, you don't ask yourself "maybe I should have used a different build, this isn't supposed to be this hard"
I'd say sekiro is slightly more difficult starting off, but it has a higher skill ceiling? Not sure how to word it, but there's more depth to the combat that just roll spamming. It's more of a back and forth dance, like an actual sword fight, and once you figure it out it feels fucking awesome
yeah, personally I get way more interesting depth and subtlety out of games with a fixed equipment set simply because they can afford to make the actual fights more intricate when the "metafight" is a fixed constant
IDK if it's more difficult, in some ways maybe, but the fact that you can make use of stealth and are much more agile mitigates that once you get used to it
The difficulty hump at the beginning for the most people I spoke to, was due to them trying to play it like a Dark Souls
ah, that does sound unlikely to be a problem for me
I mean when I get to a boss I'll likely slip into the "a thousand perfectly timed butt pokes" mindset, but when there are any shadows, tall grasses or grapple points you know I'll gravitate to them immediately
Sekiro was made so we could have a dedicated jump button and a functional stealth system in Elden Ring 🙏
Bless that game
The problem with sekiro is that while the lack of build variety is good for enemies and combat, the replay value is pretty dogshit
lol, not an issue for me
Also no online so no invasions
ok that's straight-up a selling point
It does have the multiple ending part for that, and also the game is kind of designed to go to ng+2 or something if you want to max everything on one savefile
You can go offline in any of the games, you know
If you don't wanna play online just play offline bro
Invasions and other pvp is a great way to stay engaged after wearing out pve
I think I was offline in practice just because my console wasn't set up for that, but I'm not sure
Once I got all the achievements in sekiro I never touched it again
In Elden Ring invasions barely ever happen, I think I had one legit nvastion in all my time in it
Pretty much not gonna happen unless you summon
And don't immediately start a boss fight
I mean, same, but it was also around 100 hours to do that for me, so it's not like it's a bad time-money ratio
Oh yeah definitely worth getting
Just not gonna play it a million times like I did ds3
Elden ring dlc when?
I was hoping we'd get some fun mods but we never had anything like Daughters of Ash or Cinders for sekiro
Probably because of how it's made, you can't really do mods the same way you do for other Souls games
If you want a new move, you also have to do animations for it

blizz shuts down World of Warcraft
holy clickbait.
thought as much but jesus thats such a clickbait title
***until they get their license renewed
Actually shocking*
Actually not very shocking at all
Mildly surprising
Clickbait sells, unfortunately. And it's not completely wrong, all servers and char info and all that is sealed by jan 23 unless something gets renewed, and presently it's not known if that renewal will be with netease or someone else entirely
Usually the clickbait from Bellular is mild, this one borders on misinformation
Is the new expansion already out?
i could care less about retail WoW honestly, Ascension is WAY more fun
11 days! There's a lot of prepatch stuff that has been added already. New class/race combo is available for example
Nice, I 'm not interested in playing myself, I'm at capacity with live service games to sink my free time in, but some content creators I follow do play it so it's weirdly relevant for my entertainment despite me not playing it at this point
All signs are pointing towards this one being good, especially if they can keep to a content cadance schedule they've been talking about. In comparison, the previous two xpacs, by now (or at least 6 months before release), testers were ringing alarm bells that largely went unheeded and those two expansions were... not really great. So far, nothing of the sort for Dragonflight and there's actual excitement about it
Better hope so, I am not sure if Blizzard can take 3 bad expacs in a row
but... pokemon. Pokemon has dragons too
battle for azeroth sucking really got me to not want to play the game anymore. as someone who only ever did PVP and sometimes raids for the sake of getting the very best gear, having the 4th war just turn into a fight to save the world was just so UUUUUGH
the war campaign was dope as fuck though
Hopefully it does well
Actually this weekend there's a "free weekend" thing going, where you can play even including the current xpac, shadowlands (Dragonflight being the incoming one)
It might be sacrilege, but I really wish WoW would upgrade their graphics. The cinematics are so great but the actual game is like PS1 Hagrid at times
They do, but it's such a huge game it's so much work and a lot of that upgrading stuff would not really be seen, so to speak
Yeah the hard part is that, if you do a really big leap in graphics, for the new stuff, the older stuff would stick out like a sore thumb
For example, the Barrens look like this... 2004 era zone.
And this is Shadowlands era, 2020
Although Barrens did get redesigned in Cataclysm (2010? 12?) but the textures didn't particularly get upgraded in comparison
I remember playing a few years ago and was completely flummoxed by the fact that my character was wearing a dress... and the dress was a cone, for example

And yeah, it's undoubtably a lot of work to upgrade it, no arguments there
It's such a huge undertaking and it might get a few hours of notice and some good PR, but players crave content more than anything
But yeah, even character customization needs upgrading still
here's some text about the thing above
but in all seriousness, this is what I mean about ps1 hagrid. I don't even remember the last game that had to take that sort of shortcut in years and years
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEcpCSAVKjc this is for Shadowlands, and there's some races that are still visibly behind the times
Character Customization is getting a massive upgrade with the Shadowlands pre-patch, and soon you'll be able to use these options for your own characters! In this video, I show you what I think are the most new and exciting categories for character customization. Starting soon with the Shadowlands pre-patch, you can visit the barber shop to outf...
getting to genderswap for in-game money was a blessing
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfEOkmEYxJE and then the newest race has like a quadrillion customization configurations. A lot of that is just small details and just the sheer number of combinations but still, compared to some of the older races...

yeah but can't the dragons not wear any armor?
cant wait for alextraza to be like "nope, you're taking a back seat to the story again, player character"
I know there's 'character armor' based on the wowhead dressing room, but
I think just the shoulder is visible in dragon form
Maybe. But you are given armor options there
The armor is visible in humanoid form
Clicked on a random point of the video
You may not like it but this what peak elf performance looks like.
Alextraza be like, "Oh? are you here to deliver my Amazon prime package?"
wait, what team are the dragon dudes on? are they like pandas and can join either side?
Large ears to maximize the elven hearing, large eyebrows to protect the sensitive elven eyes
(yes, this is an option)
sir, I'm not paying good money to play a dragon only to play a damn human
Agreed!
I want a tail, and I want wings and I want the boopable snout
you'd think they could make it work as a dragon since worgen are able to wear a full set
none of this flat faced monkey business >:|
Red: honestly I think at this point they're releasing it so people can play it. Armor will come later when they have more time to work on it
Worgen are their own problem. No tail. What's is this Prisoner of Azkaban nonsense, I ask you
I tried to play a dragon but its not working for me
Cinna: it's worse, the Dracthyr actually have a joke about worgen tails
also they have the worst running animation ive ever seen in this game
"I showed my tail to one of those wolf people... but they just looked sad and walked away. I wonder why!"
good! they should mock them. Maybe they'll die of embarrassment
digigrade running is kind of a pain in the ass
And in human form, sans pants because I wanted to show off the markings and whatnot 😛
sure buddy, we believe you

I can't fucking wait
if you preorder do you get to roll one without doing the hero class nonsense?
Where i s her shirt
How do you mean, hero class nonsense? If you preorder you can do their intro island, which starts you at level 58
They do have a sweet glide animation at least
Cmon, this is a much more boring shot 😛
yeah but otherwise you have to level a character to 50 or whatever it is
Ooh
any new classes or just the new dragon race?
You can only have one per server I think, but your very first one even if you are new, can be done without that level 50 minimum
They have like 2 cool moves but im way more excited to play demon hunter and monk than evoker
If you want to make another elsewhere, I think you do need that
Maybe its more fun with talent points but I wasnt feeling it at all
I gotta admit that there's some cute options
Artiks: you were still on the starter island? Yeah, it's very simple there and becomes a fair bit more complex when you get the talents
we probably should have a wow thread
We do
its like in the top 3 most used gaming threads lol
oof the reviews arent kidding about the terrible performance
#PokemonScarletViolet #NintendoSwitch
LOL
thank you gamefreak

i will never give up my dragon waifu

If Lalafel can't make me convert, you can't either!
Holy shit, that's on real hardware? Damn, emulator performance is many times faster than that.
I was going to switch to real hardware, but... I think I'm going to keep playing this on emulator instead.
That's just sad
I saw that the uploader said that was "early version Switch, Handheld mode"
Apparently docked mode isn't that bad
I hear rumors that these are the worst rated Pokémon games since gen 3 and I could buy that performance is the reason.
I'm having a blast with it via emulation
I think I'm finally convinced we need new hardware
I haven't actually read the reviews myself yet
Yeah, Nintendo has been painfully behind since 2019 and it... really has only gotten worse
#1032733661671460937 message
I was convinced nintendo needed new hardware a long time ago
SV is currently at 77 (metacritics)
Eugh
Just above BDSP(73) and Emerald(76)
Yeah, the Switch is literally just a glorified smartphone from 2017. Not even real console tier hardware, tbh
They desperately need to just go back to making normal home consoles.
Ew no
They'll kinda crash their brand if they keep doing this.
I feel like an actual smartphone would be better
I would hate for Nintendo to go back to normal consoles
Heck, my old iPhone was more powerful
Clearly they're doing something right with how well the Switch has sold, I don't think that's "crashing their brand" lol
The Steam Deck being like ten times more powerful is just sad.
Switch system performance has been dragging on them for the past few years though.
Have you seen the performance and rendering differences with a lot of the recent ports?
Tunic's port isn't worth buying, for example
Well ime I haven't experienced anything too bad
the concept of the switch is fine, it just needs better guts
I'm not disagreeing there
Yeah, don't get me wrong, the concept is fine
the Switch is like... weirdly placed. It clearly hit on the right sort of thing people wanted, but even when it launched it was kind of underpowered.
I cannot go back to having a stationary console though, and Nintendo seems to do best in the handheld market
The issue is that for Nintendo to have a console that is competitive long-term while also maintaining their comparably budget-friendly prices, they would get a lot more mileage out of a static home console.
That's why I say they should switch.
If they want to be competitive while also having a mobile platform, the device would be very expensive.
And that's a no-go for them.
I'm really confused by what you mean by being "competitive" hasn't the Switch been outselling the Series X and PS5? (At least in Japan)
Gamecube is the last time Nintendo cared much about the console spec, which failed in sales
They could always just make it a literal phone
Competitive in regards to hardware relevance. So that you don't run into this problem of Nintendo pushing for AAA experiences that are relatively comparable to what the rest of the industry and consumers expect, but the games they develop to meet those demands rapidly outgrow their own platform.
So that you don't run into this shit.
That's just a critical symptom of your platform being wholly inadequate to meet your goals.
Not just an optimization issue
heck, BotW's most recent patch still has some really bad framerate drops
The only place I run into framerate drops in BOTW is Korok Forest
tbh I wonder how much of this is more on the switchyness of the controls
That's the most obvious and consistent one, but you can get drops almost anywhere.
like, if you didn't have detactable controllers, you could add what? an extra half inch to the guts?
idk, I mean it would be best if they can create something like PS4 but Switch, but I'd say if they have to choose one they'll choose Switch
The boss flights have FPS drops too
I haven't experienced any during boss fights
It's all the particle effects they use
Indeed, or a Switch 2 or just a new platform entirely.
I really worry Nintendo is holding off on it because they don't think they can secure the chip supply
They need a system with modern chips.
God I hope it's not called Switch Pro or Switch 2
but I'm not sure that's ever going away
Call it the Flip
At least I'd say they're not moving away from the Switch concept sooner or later
I feel like if it was called one of those it would be the WiiU debacle all over again
Agreed
next generation the switch is a little robot buddy who hangs out in your pocket and goes 'pika pika'
Switch 2 would be fine
To this day a lot of people still don't get that the WiiU was a distinct console and not just an optional add-on.
it's the whole 'don't use numbers' thing that's the problem
Playstation does that and they've been fine I guess
I mean Switch 2 sounds more like a new console
Wii U was not only a failure of naming but more like a failure in marketing I'd say
If they do release a beefed up Switch I hope it's backwards compatible
at this point it probably needs to be a whole new console, maybe with the same game cart thing
Switchachu
Also Wii U does kinda look like an add-on at first sight
Indeed. And how they marketed it focused so much on the tablet they never actually made it clear that the console itself was different
They had NES-SNES or DS-3DS which had zero problems
remember how everyone licked the cartridges when the Switch came out
Their E3 presentation barely even acknowledged the new console itself.
That was fun
They spent so much time on the tablet
Interesting thing about Pokemon
I did that. That flavor lasted for a good while.
is that it's originally a handheld franchise
Switch is actually it's first mainline home console
Yeah, the Switch is the first console to have a mainline Pokémon game on a console that has a stationary form factor.
It does work, they just need better internal hardware. The CPU and GPU they chose didn't age well.
I'd be concerned that they'll put out a successor and the Steam Deck will still be more powerful
Which would just be like... what even is the point.
I'm not expecting Nintendo to put out a cutting edge console
If they fail to outpace the Steam Deck, which would be two or three years old by the time they release, then that would be really depressing tbh.
I don't mean by a huge margin either
Just... at all.
Steam Deck already cut some corners to save on costs, mind
I don't know where you got the idea that Nintendo is really interested in keeping up with powerful specs when they released the Switch which was already underpowered compared to other consoles out at the time
It should really just serve as a handy preview of what Nintendo is likely to put out.
I've never said they should be comparable to Sony or Microsoft.
I thought the complaint was that they weren't interested enough in specs and now it's coming back to bite them
They should be relevant so that it stands up long enough to survive its own life cycle.
Yeah, they were a little too conservative in the Switch cycle is what I'm saying.
idk, I thought Switch's spec was quite in a reasonable range when it was released
I think technology may be too fast
Yes but you literally just said it should be comparable to Steam Deck
Nintendo doesn't need to compete directly with the bleeding edge hardware, that's not the point of them. But they need to ensure the software they develop, which follows industry and consumer trends, doesn't outgrow their own platform.
close, he said that by the time Switch 2 comes out, it should be at least as powerful as Steam Deck was at launch, because that'll presumably be years from now
I think you could argue that's still shooting a little high, but it sounds about right to me, if even Nintendo's first party games are hitting Switch perf limits this badly now
You're not really listening. Steam Deck is a system from early 2022, using hardware from 2018/2019. If the console that Nintendo puts out in what is likely to be 2024 or so, and it doesn't outpace the Steam Deck, then... why even bother?
I think the major point here is how bad Switch was back in 2017
Yeah, exactly
Was it that bad thou
The Switch is a tablet from 2017 using smartphone class hardware that was already slightly dated at the time but it was good enough to last a few years. But by 2022 the age is painful
We're talking about iPhone 8~iPhone X time
I am a simple autism please forgive
that would be an Elon-tier move, yeah
imo Nintendo's console tend to be underperform, but it's not that bad most of the time
To be more exact the "underperforming console" problem was mainly Wii problem I think
In all honesty, I kind of wish Nintendo would aim a bit higher. I love the switch, but it's not like it hasn't always struggled. The problem with modern games is they expect so much from hardware at a minimum that being on the low end at launch means you're pretty close to falling off in the few years
Since that was almost a recolored Gamecube
I want Nintendo to push for hardware that is as relevant as possible in their next console so that they can avoid this issue of the games they develop in the second half of the console's lifetime being painfully constrained to the point where playing them on emulator is a vast improvement to the point of being a reasonable thing to encourage.
So I think Nintendo isn't like super ignorant about hardware specs
This is what we're seeing with S/V
anyway, I'm going to try Sekiro now and stream it
Yeah, the GameCube was entirely fine. Great at the time, even.
It's funny, I feel like I see more complaint against GF in Japan/Korea while western fans more tend to complain about Switch/TPC
Do you get to make your own character in Sekiro
I don't think so
(One other thing I think GF could explore specifically is alternative rendering styles. I suspect part of the reason they went with the look they did with BotW was to help with this sort of thing)
The Wii was an updated GameCube, but it still worked well enough to last its cycle, but the gulf between them and the competition grew. Then it grew again in subsequent consoles. Nintendo underperforming compared to the competition is fine in principle. Just don't let the gulf get too large or the brand risks suffering.
yeah
Well
in some ways it's kind of depressing really
We had GC, then Wii, then Wii U, then Switch
As we learned with things like Ouya, if the difference gets too large that fact alone can kill the entire concept regardless of interest in the principle of the thing.
So...
It died almost immediately
We actually haven't seen a lot of "modern Nintendo Consoles"
Didn't it get like
A billion dollars on Kickstarter though
It had millions in funding, lots of people excited for it, then once people got their hands on the thing it was DOA.
I blame windwaker
Yeah
Especially considering how GC failed and Wii U was a terrible failure
What does DOA mean
Dead on Arrival
Dead or Alive
Xtreme
I really don't think the gaming community was ready for cellshading in the early 2000s
All the indie devs which backed it or were otherwise hyped for it immediately abandoned the concept when the final hardware came out
It was sad
The thing... wasn't very good.
realistic graphics were the name of the game, and it's what everyone craved. They even demoed a 'realistic' Zelda and then gave us Windwaker
Smh
I love it now and Twilight Princess satisfied my desires down the road
But you're right that cell shading was just so out of left field at the time
<insert meme of Cinna not buying a GC leading to dominos topling and S/V having performance issues on unpowered Switch hardware>
I actually prefer WW artstyle over Twilight Princess. Imo TP is kinda ugly
so without something like Zelda, people didn't want to buy it, so Nintendo stopped competing in that space
I don't think you're necessarily wrong, but I'm talking about a historical view at the time
I think WW has aged pretty well, all things considered
True
but, like, it was a fucking wild move in 2000 or whenever the GC came out
because this wasn't what people wanted to expected
WW HD will age very nicely
I was speaking from a now perspective since I was 0 years old when Wind Waker came out
And 5ish when TP came out
bbl
WW was 2002 right
I still like TP better, but that's just personal taste on narrative style and the general aesthetic.
I like gritty Zeldas better than the others.
I like BOTW the most cuz it has a good balance between cartoony and gritty
Also I'm furry af, I love Wolf Link and Midna.
I actually haven't played a 3d Zelda aside from BOTW
I was just saying I didn't like it's artstyle lol
You should play WW and TP
I don't think that qualifies as shitting on it
They're amazing
OOT is my favorite zelda game
I will when they get Switch ports
I know
Seriously just masterpieces, all of them.
At this point I suspect they won't.
Unless Nintendo is just super delaying all their alleged ports
Like.... for years there have been consistent, weirdly confident and specific claims that Nintendo has been sitting on completed HD remasters of WW, TP and Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Switch.
I wonder if they're put aside as like "in case of emergency break glass" sorts of things
Or maybe they've just decided to toss them onto the next console.
Or maybe their gonna add Gamecube to NSO+
That I doubt
Even Reggie has said that Nintendo really needs to do that
But then I could play Gamecube AC and not have to play NH anymore
It has been fixed
But yeah, at first their port of the emulator was rough
Yes
O shit I should continue my Banjo Kazooie playthrough
Right now the Steam Deck is just the place to play Metroid Prime Trilogy thanks to Prime Hack.
Surely Nintendo sees the value in bringing updated versions of WW, TP, MPT and friends to the latest console.
MPT remaster is a no-brainer release as a lead-up to Prime 4 once they have a release date locked in.
I keep forgetting Prime 4 is a thing that's happening lmao
A few former Retro Studios devs recently talked about several previously unknown stories about the development of Prime 1 ahead of its 20th anniversary
But yeah, aside from hiring a bunch of former Naughty Dog people and other interesting staffing choices, and updating their Twitter profile with MP4 concept art, Retro Studios continues to be dead silent on it.
That must mean they're hard at work
Nintendo just continues to have it on their schedule on their quarterly financial reports.
Release date TBD
Annoyingly, it also seems like they're being quite slow about it. The job listings they've posted as recently as April imply that it was still in pre-production this year. At this point I'm convinced that it's no longer a Switch game, but instead it will be on the Switch's successor.
Or at the earliest it'll just come out at the very dead end of the Switch's life like Samus Returns did for the 3DS
ah yes, the megagecko, a staple of sengoku period pieces
speaking of "powerful enough to stay relevant": my April 2018 low-end gaming laptop is playing a March 2019 AAA video game at a more-than-stable-enough 45-50 fps, even on wide environment shots like this
unlike Fallen Order, I haven't even noticed any texture pop-in or other glitchiness
How much do you know about Japanese mythology?
There's a specific Sekiro enemy that has an actually insane death animation lol
And it's very much tied with japanese mythology
I know bits and pieces but I'm far from an expert
Also you've probably already seen the little oni under the bridge
At least I think it's an oni

it's certainly not a human, whatever it was
Oh yeah D.E is gold
Sekiro is full of those creatures though
I think there's even one specific encounter with those monkeys covering their mouth ears and eyes it's very much some mythological type stuff like that where those types of things will show up
It's awesome
I should probably mention Okami was a favorite of mine as a teenager
I may not have memorized any youkai encyclopedias but I've at least been exposed to a lot of it
Okami is wonderful
I don't replay many games, but that's one of them
(re: Disco Elysium. Can i research multiple "thought cabinet" thoughts at the same time or is it sequential?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFf5Ac2bEMA is SO GOOD
This plays when you... Well, give Kushi a ride to the mooncave.
If anyone else wants more music from the Okami soundtrack, I'd be more then glad to upload it.
I don't own the rights to Okami
of course Sekiro is about as diametrically opposite in tone as you can get from Okami
even if I didn't know this was fromsoft I think I would've guessed it by the time I saw the ruined temple
huh
well, I'm still drawing a blank on youkai that look like either giant geckos, or giant black roosters
oh hey, there is an in-game map!
...ok that one's on me for getting my hopes up when I saw "map"
Those may just be regular animals with no other deep significance
They make the world feel more fantastical I guess
Or maybe they're experiments or something, don't really know
I tried Okami but couldn't get into it
Okami's pretty good, i might replay it soon
Wtf qhy do i have over 140 hours on okami of apl games
Sekiro seemed quite good on a technical standpoint, at least by Japanese studio standards
On November 18, 2022, he was one of three people arrested on suspicion of insider trading related to non-public information about Dragon Quest Tact. Naka allegedly bought 10,000 shares of developer Aiming before the unspecified information was made public.

@quiet swift You're EA tech support, right? Help.
FNN: according to authority, Naka allegedly bought 10,000 share of Aiming for Y2.8 million in Jan 2020, when he was Square Enix employee and learned then-non-public important information about Dragon Quest Tact being developed Square Enix and Aiming.

Mass Effect 1 LE is crashing reliably, pls fix.
Mostly just joking, but I did find a reliable crash
Currently trying to see if I can get EA's attention about it
"reliable crash" is a great phrase
I don't recommend using Twitter. You don't know if that will remain up at this point.
I'm mostly SWTOR support anyway
but check help.ea.com
That's probably the best bet short of creating a ticket
I can't finish the game, the final boss fight crashes reliably on multiple different computers.
Yeah I'm currently submitting a ticket via contact us
I'm seeing reinstall origin as a solution - seems it's a bug from last year at least
65 votes and 126 comments so far on Reddit
Also:
"People say it's a bug related to biotic powers.
However a workaround I found is hotkey all my powers and avoid using the POWERS MENU and the fight went as normal... so maybe try this?"
"Found an update!: Like the others suggest, not opening the power wheel solves the issue, but you CAN use it after the mid fight cutscene with no problem. Hope this helps some of y'all on your insanity runs!"
"To anyone seeing this on PC, manually deleting origin and letting it reinstall by opening the game fixed it for me"

I'll give it a go I suppose
"I had the same issue on PC.
- at the beginning of the fight open Shift menu and assign desired skills to quick use bar (shield overload, lift and singularity are nice)
- use powers from shortcut bar and don't open Shift menu during the fight
- no crash, profit"
Yeah Id say put your powers on the shortcut bar and try that, or reinstall. That seems to be the best thing short of putting in a ticket... which might tell you the same thing, honestly
Oho, also
"MY SOLUTION: Took Origin offline, lanuched from there. Now I can pause and use all squad powers and finished the game. Seems to have been some conflict when using powers and reporting back to the Origin server that made my screen go white and lock up. WHEEE!!!"

What the fuck I thought it was a different person with the last name Naka but no it's straight up Yuji Naka what the fuck
Fortunately he's now nobody more than an icon
It's not like Sonic will be cancelled because of him
Welp, none of that worked
Sigh. Guess I have to wait to see if EA ever has any opinions on this or if my ticket just gets sucked into a black hole.
The game is just broken.
I played it some months ago and didn't have any issues. Though it might have crashed once? But was able to finish it
Yeah I didn’t run into this in my first LE run either
But that was back when it was still using Origin
I beat the trilogy without issue although I do remember a crash here and there.
Did you try the no powers thing? I note that people are saying that it's mostly the first half of the fight
Did you verify game cache too
Power wheel or the... pause menu? I think the tab button on PC that lets you choose stuff. Just using the shortcut bar seems to be what they suggest
That’s the power wheel, yeah, the freeze menu that lets you choose a power to use in combat
Right. I think people are saying not to use either
Yeah I didn’t pause either
Now if using the heal button also counts then the fight is functionally impossible without an aim bot
This game was very much not this unstable several months ago
There’s a clear regression present in the game
Okay, an answers.hq ea help forum has players saying not to use any offensive biotic powers (shield on yourself does work though). As well as your squadmates, and if there's an autocast thing for them to cast powers, that needs to be off too
(the person also suggests high explosive ammo instead)

I’ve just realized a plot hole in Mass Effect. In ME1, Sovereign is left behind in the Milky Way to act as the sole sentinel to usher in the next Reaper invasion, but it fails because the Keepers don’t respond to the signal to open the Citadel Relay. But in ME2 they introduce Harbinger, who is in dark space, and he can directly control the Collectors individually.
Why couldn’t they just directly control the Keepers to open the Citadel Relay and not rely on a proxy signal which is broadcast by the Citadel systems? Why would they need to leave a sentinel in the Milky Way if that was possible?
Why didn't they just take the eagles to Mordor?
eagles are bad at stealth
What about the Boeing F-15SE Silent Eagle?
I think the technology to make those was lost after the sinking of Beleriand in the First Age
(I don't remember Mass Effect well enough for a serious answer)
I wonder if it’s something like the Keepers don’t have Reaper tech implants in order to keep the secret, avoid the risk of discovery via dissection
I remember someone on Reddit actually figuring out a plausible reason/theory why they couldn't take the eagles to Mordor, which included lore, scientific analysis, and character analysis, but I forget what it was exactly.
I mean, I wasn't kidding with "eagles are bad at stealth"
I don't actually care that they didn't take the eagles to Mordor
Well if you think about it for about 1 minute it makes sense why they didn't take the eagles lmao
the whole premise of destroying the ring was that Sauron had to not know that was their plan, or he'd just stick a bunch of guards on Mount Doom and they'd be screwed
All the reason I need is "It would've made for a worse story if they did."
Basically, it was an expected route, they're not small, and they wouldn't be able to get close without being seen.
That's why they went with a party of 9 and not a whole caravan, it was supposed to be a stealth mission
I usually agree, but in this case the in-universe reason is so easy to provide and so solid it'd be silly to imply it's author laziness
They couldn’t take the eagles because the Nazgûl had air capability too and that was a serious threat to them, the eagles would refuse
Secrecy was the only viable way
Yes
oh yeah, that too
if we're throwing out bonus reasons, offhoof I'm not even sure if anyone at the Rivendell council had the eagles on speeddial
Yea and most likely the eagles would have been like "fuck no"
Should have gotten some Manpads. /s

The Biggest Update to Broforce Yet: New Bros, New Missions, New Freedoms - Coming Early 2023
After thinking about it for a while I arrived at the theory that the Keepers have no tech implants in order to keep the secret that way, leaving no trace of reapers. And their self-destruct mechanism would then be via internal acid, dissolve them from the inside to prevent any sort of analysis.
And in Mass Effect 2 Harbinger uses the leader of the Collectors as a proxy for control using a hive mind system.
And having looked at the wiki to check this, it seems this is exactly the explanation.
That was bugging me.
Lol, I remember watching someone play Broforce. It's such a ridiculous, utterly unrepentantly masculine game but it looks surprisingly fun.

I thought it would be much later
Sorry for being ~4 hours late with this, but if I recall correctly, during that conversation with Vigil (that Prothean VI on Ilos near the end), it is briefly mentioned that the Keepers evolved to only respond to the Citadel.
That conversation also mentions this being part of the reason that Sovereign chose to use Geth during the events of ME1; synthetics don't have the inherent instability that organics do, because they don't evolve in the same way.
Yes, correct
The Reapers intentionally designed them that way and it worked well for millions of years. When the Prothean researchers on Ilos discovered this mechanism, built the Conduit and changed the signal so that the Keepers wouldn’t recognize it (and thus fail to activate the Citadel Relay when Sovereign signaled the Citadel to broadcast the signal) the Keepers were effectively released from Reaper control. That vulnerability led Sovereign to use the Geth, as mentioned.
Then it does indeed stand to reason that all of the Collectors are simply implanted with Reaper tech to allow them to guarantee that they maintain control of them. Or, simply, the Keepers lack the organic hive mind of the Collectors that allows their control to be reliable.
Given that they continue to be used as tools for the Reapers.
That just goes against the natural order of things

I think i have similar levels of patience and skill level for soulslike. Keep me posted if it stays good, I might try it (though i think i watched a youtuber finish it so i know the story, ish...)
6 minutes into a vampire survivors run, legendary chest!
...and another at 10 minutes?
And an epic at 12? What's going on with this run
A massacre, that's what
unfortunately I have to say it's a pretty mixed bag
I've yet to have any trouble figuring out where to go or what to do, or any sign that I was lacking the necessary gear, so it's far better than DS1 on that point
but the difficulty is still set to what you'd want a 2nd or 3rd playthrough to be, not a 1st, so while it's often great it also just as often feels like I'm being punished for not having the game memorized yet (because daring to experiment and figure things out myself consistently wastes more time with deaths)
I think I exhausted my patience for it just getting through the first two real bosses today
I assume they're designed for people with far higher raw gaming skill than I have, such that these encounters really would take only 1-3 tries
Or godlike patience
I'll probably try to do this in small sittings where I feel sufficiently in the zone I can actually make progress
Fair 'nuff. Don't think i've found one i truly like myself
The time window to deflect enemy attacks is actually a generous 30 frames by default (a full half second before the attack hits),
wow, really?
shows how bad my reflexes are
Same issue for me, I think. The only reason I think I've managed to beat hades is because of pattern recognition
Which doesn't work in soulslike a lot of the time since they adapt based on your own attacks a lot of the time, or is just incomparably faster compared to hades
I think a lot of it is simply being 3D
HK and Blasphemous were hard for me but the fair kind, i.e. the way Soulslike fans always describe Soulslikes even though Souls itself is not merely unfair but gratuitously so
and other games like Bayonetta, although I'm still awful at dodge timing, it's fundamentally an invincibility frames model (...right? at least it felt like it) so "pattern recognition" as you called it is enough for me to play it
Sekiro is one of those games where whether you actually pull off a dodge or parry seems to be based on your location in the 3D space, which sounds completely reasonable on paper but in practice if you're not good at games it leads to "10-20% of the time parrying 'randomly' doesn't work"
also the 2-3 times I "dodged" off a cliff, because of course boss fights happen in places like that
at least I can confidently say Sekiro is fair, I know what I'm supposed to be doing to win these fights, it's just lacking a "1st playthrough" difficulty so I have to repeat fights more often than is fun to do so
It's an older game and not really the same style but have you ever played Bloodrayne?
the name sounds familiar but no
Bayonetta minus the hair, plus vampires, and fighting against nazis
lol
I remember having fun with it a million years ago
probably won't just because there's so much else to try
True 'nuff
I still haven't decided if I want Bayonetta 3 or not
I do have I think #1 somewhere, i believe i got it free or super cheap. I should give it a whirl
But i'd just finished FF7 remake and i wanted a different genre entirely
Picture if you will...

One other thing that I though about the other day, and the reason I got much better at Sekiro than I ever did at any of the other souls games, is that Sekiro is also much better at telling you what you are doing wrong.
It communicates which attacks are parriable, which ones are counterable, which ones you have to dodge and how to dodge them to get an advantage
While finding the holes to be aggressive in a more characteristic souls games, requires a lot more work
When you are good at Sekiro, you really get the feeling that you are absolutely destroying the boss in a way that is much harder to get in souls, and often is possible only in certain situations
that's a lot of what I mean when I say Sekiro is fair
at least theoretically, it's definitely still far too hard for a player of my skill level to consistently enjoy
The holes to playing aggressively are there also in souls games, they are just less obvious.
if it had quick saves or save states then I'd probably be having a blast
You mostly have to learn the attack patterns by trial and error in the Souls games.
It is a frustrating process.
I think Sekiro is also better than other souls on that aspect, you can ress a few times each boss (at least once) and the harder bosses don't usually have huge runs to get to them
unfortunately I'm on mini-boss #3 and already the run to get to him is 5? enemies which is incredibly tedious after the 2nd or 3rd attempt
so if these count as "not huge runs" then I can't really see myself ever finishing this game
oh, well it's still linear where I am
If Sekiro is anything like the Souls series, running past the enemies to get to the boss is a reasonable strategy.
Is it the ||big ogre that can grapple you? It's usually the 1st real obstacle||
Once you kind of get used to souls games they kind of get a bit easier. It's kind of a process to advance in them.
yeah I'm not even making it to the boss any more
this is clearly my limit for this game
nah, the ogre was annoying because dodging him was just unreliable enough that I effectively got punished for doing anything but the most simplistic cowardly strategy
but once I gave up on being clever he wasn't too bad
it's the guy right after him that I'm giving up on
Horse guy?
haven't seen any horses yet
Ok nevermind then
this is "just" some dude in fancy armor
Is this doing doing a lot of unparriable attacks?
some, I dunno if I'd say a "lot"
really it's having to repeatedly kill all the normal enemies before retrying it that's getting me, if I could just retry this boss I'd probably start getting better at him instead of always getting hit by the first few attacks, but I can't build up any muscle memory/pattern recognition when the gap between boss attempts is several times longer than the failed attempt
I think I know which guy you are referring to, I think you can cheese one healthbar if you manage to open with a stealth attack, but it's definitely not an easy one, the zone is annoying and has one of the dudes that sounds the alarm.
yeah I'm aware I can stealth cheese one hit, but that's a speedrun/2nd playthrough strat; I'll never learn how to fight him if I go straight to last phase
There is zero honor in how I played sekiro, especially the 1st playthrough
All the cheese all the time
lol
1st time I could really stealth in a from software game wasn't about learning the game, was about vengeance
yeah doesn't look like anyone's made a mod for true save states, only for managing regular saves

yup its the ||puff and dots||

i have seen that fire far to many times
