Anyone know a good Genesis/Mega Drive emulator?
Kega Fusion seems to be the only good one
wait no
It's kinda the same with Genesis Plus GX. No standalone version, the only other notable Genesis emulator that targets accuracy is BlastEm but still lacks the breath of features that Genesis Plus GX have (think it still lacks Sega CD?). Most people still use ancient emulators like Kega or Gens
(quote from a random Discord I'm on)
much like Saturn, it seems to be a situation where there is no really good choice
Genesis Plus GX is good but you need to use RetroArch for it – it lacks a standalone app. That means dealing with RetroArch's UI. Same story with Beetle Saturn…

Asked what could be on the horizon should Microsoft's acquisition go ahead, Spencer added that he was "excited about getting to sit down with the teams at Activision and Blizzard and King to talk about back catalogue and opportunities that we might have".
"The first thing I would say is, I'm not allowed to make any decisions about what happens at Blizzard or Activision or King," Spencer told Wired (via NME). "So this is all just kind of talking and thinking about what the opportunity is.
"Not only StarCraft, but WarCraft, when you think about the heritage of RTS games that we're talking about here, specifically from Blizzard."
Whilst he was very careful not to commit to anything or give too much away, Spencer said that whilst he didn't "have any concrete plans today" and "can't really get in and work with the teams" just yet, he acknowledged that "StarCraft was a seminal moment in gaming": "from an esports perspective, from RTS on console perspective, and from just an RTS storytelling perspective in the genre".
"I'm excited about getting to sit down with the teams at Activision and Blizzard and King to talk about back catalogue and opportunities that we might have," he added. "So I will dodge the question other than to say it's not something I can actively work on right now. But the thought of being able to think about what could happen with those franchises is pretty exciting to me, as somebody who spent a lot of hours playing those games."
Soooooo, we're getting more Starcraft, in other words. Eventually.
And possibly more Warcraft stuff too
But he specifically mentioned Starcraft every other sentence.
Maybe they're gonna finally take Starcraft: Ghost and make a proper game out of it?
One can hope!
Not being under Bobby's thumb anymore seems to hopefully open things up to, y'know, actually not ignoring some other existing IPs that were once great
(if it goes through and all, obviously)
I have no faith in Blizzard to write a decent story after Diablo III so I'll have to be convinced with facts not words that I should care at all about more Starcraft
That said, we'll see

I got no clue what 'genre' of music this is, but I've heard it so much in Japanese media (anime, games) from anywhere around the 90s to the 2000s and it's just so cool
it's such a specific style of music
This is the main theme of Policenauts. A game from Hideo Kojima, that was released only in japan. If you play Metal Gear Solid, then you maybe remember to this track.
I don't suppose anyone here even knows what Policenauts is?
I remember I watched Super Best Friends play this years ago
I recognize the famous MGS intro
according to the comments, MGS actually took from that song, rather than the opposite
which is unexpected
chilling moments taken before disaster
as for music genre, this sounds like a random MIDI to me… some of the instruments are pretty tell-tale, you hear them all the time in MIDIs
ngl tho it was pretty funny
Policenauts was a game Kojima worked on before Metal Gear Solid, it's mostly forgotten nowadays I feel, but from what I've seen it's apparently been called one of the best science fiction games ever and it was very influential in the development of future MGS games, to the point where one of the MGS characters was directly taken from one of the Policenauts characters
I think it never released outside of Japan officially unfortunately, despite demand from fans
yeah, meryl's design was taken from policenauts
Policenauts has an english fan patch
In typical Kojima fashion it's a bit of a mix of things, some call it a graphic novel, some a point and click adventure, an interactive movie, etc
ocassionally there are some FPS sequences as well
It's an interesting little game, I've never played it myself and haven't even finished the 2BFP playthrough of it, but what I saw of it I really liked
It's a very Kojima game, anyone who disliked the codecs from MGS would probably hate this one since if I had to describe it I'd probably describe it as one long codec call from MGS
Lots of politics and social issues and all that razzle dazzle
MGS codecs are something I thought I'd skip 90% of the time, but I listened to most of them
they manage to be more captivating than usual
They are annoying at first but I find them charming and I love all the non intrusive explanations of mechanics and interactions between characters, sometimes you even get some juicy important lore details
It's a very fun mechanic, it only really got smoother from Peace Walker to MGSV since those games basically make the codec something you can trigger during gameplay so it doesn't interrupt you anymore
I do miss the iconic screens of the characters and the codec frequencies though
The frequency is on the back of the CD case.
Honestly I watch Pat and Woolie's streams and their podcast and I even started watching PeachSaliva (Pat's wife) streams as well after 2BFP ended
I dunno what Matt is up to though, but I follow Pat and Woolie and honestly there's no shortage of content for me
They're all happier like this
they are happier but there was just something magical about that time
maybe it was just me relying on a parasocial relationship but damn I miss it
I do watch woolie's get into fighting games videos sometimes
despite myself getting way to deep into the genre
I was surprised when I first heard this, it brought me back to early 90s PC games being full of that kind of copy protection
you'd see a popup at random moments, sometimes with a fancy animation and an instruction like "Write the third word on page 42 of the manual"
I mean we all got the best possible outcome: they cut ties amicably and they continued making content separately rather than completely disappearing from the internet, I can't complain really, especially when Pat and Woolie still got the podcast going, initially I never cared for Woolie but after I started watching him years ago I love the guy, really if you miss 2BFP literally just go watch their streams because they're really fun and the community is great
Anti piracy was crazy back then, I still find it silly and stupid that Kojima would block direct progress with a stupid gimmick like that but that's exactly what Kojima would do
Funny that even by that time, the internet completely circumvents that problem
at least it's an immersive form of copy protection here
Kojima: hehe I will block progress behind something they could only have if they bought the game!
Internet forums: lol. lmao.
that said, if you're really stuck, you can bruteforce all codec frequencies
it takes a while, but it's faster if you can use turbo mode in an emulator
and you'll probably find a secret or two this way
This is secret codec call from Metal Gear Solid Integral.
This only works this version. There are another 2 more!

yeah
I actually didn't try bruteforcing myself (or even looking up secret codec frequencies)
With all the insane number frequencies there are you'd think there'd be wayy more secret codecs but I think there's not that many, at least that I could find...
I think it's mostly just secret interactions and stuff
like this one
When you escape from your cell, you can leave the room but everyone will yell at you to get your equipment.
https://twitter.com/DanRennie
https://www.twitch.tv/danrennie2
I always commend Kojima's games for having such natural interactions between the game and the player, I hate it when people call it interactive movies, these types of things and the minute little details make the games feel so much more alive and natural
looking at my achievements tally, there are a lot of secrets I missed in my playthrough
(praise RetroAchievements :P)
Huh
interesting
I have that one special edition of MGS on my PC through GOG
I wonder if I should give it a try sometime, I never played the VR missions before
I know you can play as Gray Fox in that one
the original Raiden
MGSV similarly had a lot of those types of interactions if you spent too much time outside, if you didn't shower, if you didn't give soldiers jobs or if morale was too low etc etc, very fun stuff
also hearing this from Big Boss would be terrifying
what is the condition for this? I never got this
you have to be bad at the game
welp
low morale by not coming back to base
couldn't be me
yeah, or not assigning anything
low morale and/or too many people on the waiting room for too long
so that's why it was up to like 30k
I thought the majority of it was due to the new ww1 movie

YeH!
This was too good not to upload as soon as it happened.
Sorry it wasn't perfect, it was my first encounter with it.
okay this sequence is fucking amazing
demon hands come up from the sky with fucking light sticks to hype up Bayo singing
It has all the trademark stupid sillyness that I love about character action games, unfortunately it has nowhere near the compelling story or characters that DMC has...
The story of Bayonetta 1 was good enough, Bayo 2 was pretty bad and this one... is kind of the same so far, unfortunately
I like Viola, she's fucking awesome and she's carrying this game so far for me, she's this character that's trying too hard to be cool and epic but they're just a giant goof and she's always the butt of the joke, also her design and music rocks
a lot of people say she's super cringe and she's like a typical rock emo from the 2000s BUT THAT'S THE POINT THOUGH
She looks gay
I feel like she's a great addition to the cast just like Nero was in DMC4 and while a lot of cool new stuff is happening in this game the main story is kind of a let down and I honestly wished the story was better considering this is their third game and it was already delayed once and if I remember correctly kind of restarted development entirely
Honestly by this point in the story DMC5 is just so much more compelling and interesting than Bayo 3
As a Bayo fan, I like it, but if I were to look at it from the perspective of a not Bayo fan... it's pretty uninteresting and badly written
I mean...yeah, that is the point. Bayonetta takes itself somewhat seriously in the setting while at the same time parodying a fair bit of other stuff and going all out on the wackiness. I mean, this is a witch lady who uses guns with her hands and feet and uses her f`cking HAIR to summon monsters and attack enemies (while also making her naked in the process because her hair is also her clothes...somehow), and who unlocked a lock by literally flipping the bird (iirc, only saw the cutscene once).
The game actively portrays Viola as a cringey weaboo loser so complaining that she's cringey or something is actively missing the point
I just wish Bayo had the same quality of story as DMC, DMC is no storytelling masterpiece, but the story works
The character arcs work, the villains work, the dynamics work, everything makes sense, is perfectly connected, explained, is effectively executed in emotional moments like the finale of DMC3 and some moments of DMC1
It's no masterpiece, but the things that are there are well written, can't say the same for Bayonetta where a lot of stuff is just straight up bad
again as a Bayo fan I'm really liking it especially with all the new additions (oh my god there's so many hot demon ladies help) but at the same time I am also pretty disappointed and let down
can't speak on the more important aspect, the gaemplae though because I am poor and don't have a Switch
damn you nintendo
I actually was looking around and trying to set up a switch emulator but it seemed like a huge hassle
and the stuff I downloaded like the bios or keys or whatever didn't seem to work
personally I was just kinda used to spectacle fighters in general and Platinum games in particular rarely having a story worth paying attention to; I'm always there for the gameplay, maybe the aesthetic
It's not an unenjoyable game because of a bad story and the main meat will always be the gameplay with these types of games but I'm just incredibly disappointed that it seems like they didn't even try
I'm still loving the game for various reasons but that will always be that little thorn in my side with it especially since I disliked Bayo 2's story so much
A good story can amplify the game so much, just look at all the hype surrounding Vergil and how much people loved his song especially how it connects with him as a character
People play these games for the gameplay but they can also be here for the story and characters and that's what happened with DMC5, I just wanted that for Bayo 3 but it seems like it's just the same thing
I'm honestly surprised Metal Gear Rising had as much of a good story as that game did and I think it's because Kojima Productions devs worked on it because I just do not believe Platinum would write Rising's incredible story and then do Bayo 2 and 3
platinum games are very bipolar
they make nier automata and mgr, and then they make babylon's fall
I don't know I've only played Nier Automata
Oh my god I'm at a certain part of the story and if this actually goes down the way I'm thinking jesus christ this story is so stupid
Like laughably bad
Oh my god it actually happened lmao
wow
spoilers bayo 3:
||OH NO WHO COULD'VE EVER SEEN THIS ONE COMING?????||
so dumb
''who is this villain? where did they come from? why are they even doing this?''

HIS REACTION IS SO APPROPRIATE
Oh my god that ending and that story suuuuucked
that was so bad
Eight years, this game was in development for eight years
I can't believe pat killed that guy
Pat is so right
Bayonetta 1 is STILL the BEST one simply because it's the only one that doesn't have either a story or gameplay problem
FACTS
Holy shit it's so baffling how Bayo games get worse with each entry Bayo 1 is still the overall much better game

8 years folks, 8 years
How can pat say such brave words
The Binding of Isaac has a new special seed
GFUE LLLL
It copies the daily they made
It's a dumb ad but I wonder what they did in the daily
what was the gameplay problem?
I'M OLD #GuessTheGame #177
🎮 🟩 ⬛ ⬛ ⬛ ⬛ ⬛
Bayonetta 2 has more than just a gameplay problem.... The story is atrocious, but a lot of the players who were more into the deeper aspects of the combat system I remember were upset about gameplay changes in Bayo 2
Seems like it's a case of making combat easier and more streamlined for new players but sacrificing a deeper system that allowed players who mastered it to pull off insane shit
okay, so it's stuff that would never affect me

If you're the casual type of player who isn't planning on spending hundreds of hours on the game and getting super deep into it... Yes, this won't affect it at all and in fact would be a positive
if it's confusing enough that you can't even explain what the change actually is, and the only consensus is that it's simpler now, yeah probably a net positive
my reflexes aren't even good enough to reliably dodge basic attacks in those games
Oh no it's not confusing, I'm just simplifying it
The thing is, I never played Bayo 2 so I really don't know how it feels to play or all the mechanics of it
It has also been a while
Try to name the game shown in the screenshots in 6 guesses or less!

||that Sonic water is iconic tho||
The third guess I figured It out

Imagine not pirating Ubisoft games
Imagine playing Ubisoft games
I boycotted them many years ago when they did me dirty
Oh yeah I'm definitely interested
I just don't wanna deal with Ubisoft as a business
Ubisoft's current low PR came about long after I lost interest in playing their games
They're so borderline for me
I genuinely enjoyed Valhalla a lot but there is SO MUCH FUCKING WALKING SIM
AFter the first few areas I just gave up
I enjoy that sort of game a lot
I remember when AC1 was brand new and "innovative" and I was eagerly awaiting the sequel
I remeber that too
but after 5 ACs / AC3 I haven't felt like touching the series again
Unpopular opinion but
I don't even know how many we're at now
Odyssey was good actually
I skipped a LOT of the middle ones tho
3
err
everything between 2 and od except black flag
and I mostly did black flag for the naval combat
Odyssey is the Ancient Greece one, yeah?
ftr, AC2, AC2-2, AC2-3 and AC3 are all perfectly good... they're just mostly the same game
Seemed really nice
The attention to historicity is one thing they get right every time
zero problem with them
I don't so much care about the history bit except as set dressing
and I liked Od specifically because it was a little more fantastical
Not that they all aren't but it was more clearly that
Speaking of, I need to talk to Bringi about DA2 now that I've started it again
ooh, we don't have a post for DA
Oh dear light
aside from sameness, my usual problem with later ACs was that they felt like a mishmash of mechanics half of which served no purpose, especially because the platforming and combat were often so easy you needed to do little more than tilt the sticks at the next waypoint and mash the run/attack button
Od solved that for me a little by having more RPG elements to it
if they ever changed away from that I might be interested again
ah
well, you know my reaction that lol
Though that came at the cost of having some enemies be HP sponges which was sucky
yeah I'm kinda sick of HP sponges in every genre these days
A good boss shouldn't need lots of HP
exactly
Let alone mooks
2-4 rounds of actually doing damage should be plenty for any enemy, bosses should mostly be about needing more steps to reach the "actually doing damage" part
but an enemy that's just the same as the other guy but you have to shoot twice as many times, that's lame
Not every game can be a dark souls
unsure if serious or which joke was intended
Dark Souls has really good bosses which tend to be more puzzles than damage sponges
Trails in the Sky the 3rd has the Dark Souls of fishing mini-games >_>
High Lord Wolnir is one clear example, even though it's not as challenging as usual
High Lord Wolnir boss fight in Dark Souls 3 on PC.

Dark Souls 3 High Lord Wolnir Boss Fight
All you have to do is hit the glowing bracelets (and don't walk into the fog like that guy did.)
ok, so not specific to Dark Souls, just one of the many things it got right
I don't know if I actually agree witht hat
The bosses aren't puzzles in the way zelda bosses are
nearly all of the Metroid Prime bosses are also not just sponges
They have patterns and stuff but they're seldom only vulnerable due to X
They're puzzles in that you have to watch and learn the attack patterns, as well as experiment with damage types and different moves
It's true that not every boss has a perfect solution that will work every time, but you will still do a lot better if you go about the boss analytically
It gets even wackier when you analyze the timings and realize how they played with that in regards to the Dancer of the Boreal Valley fight
A lot of people have trouble with the Dancer because she doesn't seem to act in a predictable way
That's because she acts on 3/4 beats, instead of 4/4 like almost anything else
I've only played 1 and Elden
and a little of 2 but 2 is infuriating in a way neither of the others is
There was a really good video on the topic but I can't find it so here's this video instead

DARK SOULS is a spectacular game, but beating the bosses is no easy feat. This is especially true when it comes to the Dancer of the Boreal Valley. Why is she so difficult t...
3 is a good bit faster than 1, but supposedly slower than or around the same speed as Elden Ring. I haven't played that one
Makes it a lot less frustrating, but also you have less time to react while analyzing enemies
I mean the key in any of them is having your own rhythm synched up, moreso than the actual rhythm of the enemies
In DS1 I sorta painted myself into a corner
by using only the black knight bastard sword the whole game
You could stop
WHich most of the time was like playing the tuba
I really couldn't
It became a thing
I mean, who would stop using the tuba
but I beat the whole game with that
in ER I eventually built out to use the Blade of Night And Flame which isn't probably that meta but it's really cool and it fit the RP of my character
Do they have a moonlight greatsword there?
They have greatswords that exist
I don't remeber

What's Vsauce3?
A YouTube channel.
Clickbait title: 10 WILDEST Geek Girls OMG!!!
I found myself stonewalled on a number of other projects, to the point that I needed to make something just to get something done. More specifically I needed to finish something. Starting projects is easy, finishing them is hard. This isn't a thorough historiography of Vsauce, it's a story. It's not...
I know it's a youtube channel, and I know what Vsauce is
What's Vsauce 3 about?
Why should I care?
I got it because ||I'm utterly obsessed with Sonic right now lmao||
they do, though its locked behind a pretty long amd difficult quest chain
Neat
Watching the new Jimquisition video and wow
ActiBlizz sending prepackaged articles to journalists to publish along with a copy of the new MWII they're shitting out?
Journalism is dead
"the news regrets to inform you that the other guy's news was woefully misleading"
no no no no no
wait wait wait wait
Learning that Actiblizz would stoop to the level of basically spitting on a journalist and telling them "Your work is shit, here we did your job for you."
I mean, this is something that has happened for decades? A lot of times the big huge scores that some sites/magazines give is because they got the free copies and probably money from companies to promote it
mm-hmm, in the end you just can't trust any source that you haven't personally familiarized yourself with
trust the reviewers who've been blacklisted lol
thats not necessarily good advice but the ones i do pay attention too seem to be
depends which blacklist we're talking but yeah sometimes it works out that way
Yes but the problem here is they're even giving them the article

Ha, I thought there was something in there
Well, then...
Liara working with Geth??

[Geth noises intensify]
alright so I'm watching a streamer I like play this game, Dark Picture Anthologies The Devil In Me, jesus that's a long name
these types of games are always so... weird...
they focus so much on the facial animations but they're never quite right, it's super off putting and jarring
the until dawn type games do this so much
I'll just stick to the more anime type, so there's less uncanny valley
(case in point, I be streaming ff7 remake right now)
Liara has a new title.

Matriarch? Council? Something else entirely?
I guess this makes the shitty ending not canon.
Yeah, the destroy ending is the canon ending.
Destroy wouldn't have Geth running around IMO, but it has been years since I have last played.
My guess is that there will be an internal threat this time around to start.
I thought destroy only blew up the mass relays? But same here, it has been so long I'm not certain.
Or do, but only if you're streaming to an audience
Friend
was there a hidden kirin at the bottom
CW for above: Arachnophobia
a hidden Kirin hiding in these holes would've been a much more pleasurable surprise
the only fuzzy friends I want to find are kirins
From what I can find atm, ||it should have also removed the Geth and other synthetic forms of life. That said, it also leaves Shepard alive and the Normandy crew on a planet somewhere recovering from the crash of the ship.||

Gotcha, that sounds familiar.
aheh, no
Palmer Luckey is the founder of Oculus. And also he has a weapons R&D company.
Which is how he got the explosives, apparently
What’s really wild is that his blog post implies that he plans to use the thing
I'm sure the Torment Nexus for Metaverse will be one to die for.
..............Wait, wtf? This isn't a joke?

Why.
Why would someone make this?
For what reason?
This is beyond dumb.
because yesterday was the canonical day that Sword Art Online went live.
ya know, die in the game, die IRL.
It's a statement piece made to commemorate that.
At this point, it is just a piece of office art, a thought-provoking reminder of unexplored avenues in game design. It is also, as far as I know, the first non-fiction example of a VR device that can actually kill the user.
Palmer Luckey is one of the fathers of modern VR. He's the founder of Oculus VR and designer of the Oculus Rift.
The Destroy ending also kills all synths and robotics including EDE and Geth
...Office art.
That has explosives inside.
Not a great plan.
I'd hope that the founder of a weapons and defense contractor (Anduril) knows better than to leave live explosive charges just laying around
Certainly has access to them as a defense contractor, but the casings are also just as easy to get and give the same look
finally
He's making VR follow holodeck rules.

I find it interesting that Japan is so sensitive about violence in games considering how lax they are with.. other things
Credits Tilmendomination YouTube
They really censor a lot of stuff
To the point where it nearly loses all effectiveness completely and it just looks... so weird
like the guy who is meant to just be a torso now has just slightly bloody legs?
Wym
Japan is generally more... accepting? of a lot of sexual and suggestive content that here would be a no no
That's nice
ever noticed all the dirty jokes in media like dragonball?
like the bulma and goku scene
No I've never watched Dragon Ball
it's not bad at all, but... be consistent you know?
That's been historically the case with America vs the World.
Don't forget Europe used to censor TNG a few times for violence.
You better look it up because I don't feel like I can explain that scene in a safe way
but what i mean is, it's weird to see them so extremely restrictive of violence when other things are aokay
That's just cultural norms for ya

We want to acknowledge and thank our players who have stuck by u...
and forge
after how long, lmao
just under a year lmao

Skin was an absolute pain to unlock though
You have to get 3 Keys in a similar manner to the original game
A green one for beating an Elite enemy
A blue one for choosing it over an item in a treasure place
and the red one... Which you have to buy from a store for 10k gold
don't even know if the keys actually do anything aside from unlock the skin BUT I LOVE IRONCHAD SO IDC
just finished my replay of KH1 on proud mode, this game has a good story but garbage combat and fights, someone stop me next time i do something like that
anyway time for chain of memories proud mode
yeah
Awesome
(it among other things, doubles the damage you take, making most things a 1 shot)
Try to name the game shown in the screenshots in 6 guesses or less!
its a pretty popular game from that era
Yep, co-op, campaign mission replay and Forge.
i've been playing through KH1 on Proud myself for my first time
hahaha
i am in pain

damn you really hate your friends
they get one shot, i aint wasting my health mana on them
Idk how long BioShock is but I've gotten farther now than I did last time
The "Double this card's damage this combat" function is really, really strong when coupled with energy
Oh nice, grats on your Hermit win!
Thanks. It's been pretty challenging because I kept missing damage cards
yeah, as much as I enjoyed KH, it's really not the kind of game I'd ever want to turn up the difficulty on
especially when "higher difficulty" is the usual boring "you do less damage they do more damage" which doesn't make the game play any differently, it just makes everything more tedious
Yeah
to be fair, KH doesn't decrease your damage
so its got bethesda beat on that at least
It basically means you spend a longer time and/or have smaller margins for error
lol
Whereas interesting difficulty means stuff like changing enemy patterns and adding extra enemies
This is one reason that Dark Souls, with the exception of 2, doesn't have harder difficulty settings
or optional bosses/sidequests designed for the players that found the main game too easy
Like the expansions
which technically I did in Blasphemous
Yeah
(and tried to in Hollow Knight)
what it does in KH1 (remake)
the touch of having to do less to get true ending is interesting tbf
I convinced a game dev to not do this in their game. Make the enemy shoot more shots, add more enemies, make your powerups provide fewer hp, but don't make the enemies tankier. That makes the game slower for players who have the skill to play faster.

What is Another Side, Another Story? Some sort of alternate character game?
It's like Another Day in Crazy Taxi. You start facing backwards but everything is literally the same
I like my explanation better regardless of correctness
that's why we both answered
Ah, Secret Ending
i mean i would probably do Hades cup anyway to fight Cloud or whatever
The sephiroth fight on proud mode is the biggest challenge
idc about 101 dalmatians, let Cruella off them dogs are annoying
keep them in the fucking chests and let them suffocate
Because he has the longest sword
yeah I did all the colliseum cups just for fun
especially for the boss fights only available in them
plus the dalmatians are a really lame reward for navigating the jank-ass fuckery that is kh1 platforming
would literally prefer a potion to this collectable for the sake of a collectable
I can't use puppies to heal my gaping fucking wounds, game!
You don't wanna play Spyro 3 then
I don't think I ever did the crafting
at least for me, I tend to mostly ignore crafting systems in games since the few times I've tried they were sooooo not worth the hassle, and "trying" didn't improve the results anyway since it was such a secondary system I had little control over
yup
skill trees are almost always okay though
it's funny how so many mechanics are almost universally nice or universally annoying
last time i used one was in Yakuza 7 and that was to upgrade Ichiban's "main" weapon, the story-relevant baseball bat that has like 10 billion levels and basically serves as a constant weapon you can use rather than something you ditch in 5 hours because you found a slightly bigger stick
even then like
fuck the cost of upgrading that thing got ridiculous
I think the last time I technically did crafting was in Bayonetta 2, where I ignored it for 90% of the game and then on the final boss I dumped all my crafting components into lollipops to cheese the boss with because I'm bad at video games
Just don't take damage
...you can upgrade armor?
"why am i dying so much"
idiot you're using basic armor against the literal god of destruction you fuckin' nonce

how does BotW keep retroactively gaining mechanics everyone but me knows about every couple months
Upgrading armor is a pretty normal mechanic you learn about early on
There's a fairy fountain near Kakiriko Village that allows you to upgrade your armors
you upgrade at the fairy fountains
Not only can you upgrade armor, you can run out of inventory space and thus permanently lose certain armors when you get them because you had no space for them
if you're anything like me
you found it, saw how much it cost to unlock it, went "oh i'll get it later!"
forgets
yeah that's probably what happened then
it's not like upgrading armor is necessary in any way anyways
I know I found one or two great fairy fountains but I have zero memory of what they did, or if I even could do anything with them
I don't even remember if I wore armor
Wait Ix you didn't know you could upgrade your armour?
If you were wearing clothes you were wearing armour
maybe I was aware at some point during my playthrough but I sure don't remember iti now
ok yeah none of this was the memorable part of the game lol
The great fairy fountains also get a little bit more heated with every upgrade
I think fully upgraded champion's tunic costs a couple of those star shard things
i liked having the upgraded ninja armor

idk why but when stealth can be an option I take it
but i don't like stealth based games like Hitman, if you catch my drift?
Yeah the fairy mountains go from blowing sparkles all over you, to kissing you, to taking you inside the fountain
People really thirsted over those Great Fairies
I mean compared to OoT the Great Fairies are gorgeous in BOTW
there's a good example of how to make higher difficulties work: even if the enemies do more damage, but your stealth mechanicis don't suck, then higher difficulties incentivize better use of them
like in Halo I'll spend much more time thinking about where to throw a surprise plasma grenade if the difficulty's higher up
Hyrule Warriors' Great Fairy is a goddess
not actually a goddess she's just very gorgeous
It's really just like
I appreciate the option and I'll use it if I feel it'd be the fun thing to do
but i would also go face first Tactical Dumbass if I feel like I could take them lol
No stealth in Doom
Like Dead Cells kind of has stealth
Why are the cells dead
idfk
stealth would be out of place in Doom, that's fair lol
but you can break open doors to stun enemies or sneak up behind them because they only aggro you if they can see you
most Metal Gear games actively discourage guns ablazing by swarming you with enemy troops and reinforcements plus the gameplay isn't quite suited for mass shooting, understandably since it's an espionage game and not a shooter
hell there's even weapons that deal more damage from behind
Hitman is a similar thing, you are realistically very weak against multiple enemies shooting at you because.. of course
I remember playing OoT and thinking "how did Nintendo get away with this"

well, those are "just" stealth games, kinda separate from the question of how to make a higher difficulty level actually fun to play
MGSV
the problem applies to stealth too, e.g. "just" making enemies spot you faster isn't really fun, and likely just means more save scumming
it's literally the best stealth game ever made but if you wanted to just fight people head on like it's a shooter... you could
the option is there if you so desire
when I played Deus Ex, I tended to use lethal options quite a lot. I just prefer playing this way, force of habits
fully upgraded pistol can chew through almost anything, if you have enough skill to click heads
I've always been the type to try very hard for non-lethal in stealth games
I tried using stealth in Deus Ex 1 but I could never whack people in the back of the head consistently
they'd always turn around and shoot me
I've never played Deus Ex
other than that the other stealth games I've played are Hitman and Metal Gear and both of them I enjoy
oh and AC Unity, I guess?
that's also stealth
I've played the original DE and DE:HR
Splinter Cell is the only "just stealth" franchise I was ever super into
I did play MGS1-4 but it was all about the story for me
Was it good
original game has broken head hitboxes, Revision fixes those
yeah
in the original game, you can only headshot people from cardinal directions (including with firearms)
Would I like it
I should replay Deus Ex 1
I have no idea
it's really good
Personally I love that janky old pc game feel
the type where you can probably sequence break a lot of shit and you can probably do whatever you want to, just like Half Life 1
Nire have you played Elder Scrolls Arena
I intend to replay it next year, maybe in Realistic difficulty
Oof, I hope there's a mod for this
never heard of it
Arena has aged like fine milk, Daggerfall has aged much better thanks to Daggerfall Unity
I'm not a super elder scrolls type person
Why
I enjoyed Skyrim but never got super far into it
Daggerfall is also free but I've never had time to play it
You said you liked the feeling of old janky pc games so I said the oldest jankiest pc game I could think of
oh right
you could try Techland's earlier games like Chrome or Xpand Rally maybe, they have quite some jank compared to their recent releases
it's impressive to see one of those studios's earlier work, compared to their output nowadays (Dying Light)
I do like it but I'm still not interested in elder scrolls
it's a very specific feeling I get from those early 3d pc titles
did you try Thief or System Shock 2?
those games feel very moody and atmospheric in a way I never felt with anything else
Quake?
I haven't, but Thief is another one of those, I've always been interested in THief but never got around to playing it
never played Quake but it being a shooter is probably different from what I mean
Quake and Doom aren't like Half Life and Deus Ex
I think I played Deus Ex 1 waaaay back when it was still new...
I did play System Shock 2, that was fun
Gold Source was literally built off of the Quake engine
never got around to any Thiefs and barely any Hitman
you could try out Strife if you want an earlier example of a FPS-RPG hybrid
it's a bit underlooked, more heavily leaning on FPS than RPG compared to Deus Ex but it has its charm
it's still not the same
I played the first thief but don't think I ever finished it. Haven't touched any Hitman
Well it's good that you haven't touched any hitmen because that would be illegal

also help I keep downloading Sifu mods and they're all so cool
this Chunners one is fantastic
photo mode on this game is pretty cool

speaking of, I'm going to try actually playing a little more Hitman 2
(if anyone wants to watch just ping me and I'll turn the stream on)
she looks like she isnt wearing any underwear tbh
for Flitter's benefit: I ended up killing Robert Knox ||by impersonating Mendez and scanning Robert's photo during the demonstration||
the 'best' way?
It's ironic, making it funny
The fastest way is usually some stupid snipe spot location that's very timing based and not fun
The fastest way I've seen is to ||put an explosive on the girls' car, wait until Knox goes to a rooftop, push him off, explode the car||
Ayo this Thor fight is badass
Hitman 2 Miami Tree Falls on the Apple- Kill two Knox in one stone. This is a way to kill Robert Knox and Sierra Knox at the same time. You will first need to go to the Kronstadt building and then control the satellite. The satellite is located in one of the top floors and you will first need to get the access dongle from Robert Knox's office. ...
Oh nevermind! you don't put an explosive there at all
You actually || push him off as soon as she shows up, so she runs him over, and then she crashes ||
what a perfect crime
And the silent assassin suit only is just a little longer
I just find the orchestrated situations prepared by the devs more fun
yeah, I'm gonna worry about aiming for silent assassin or whatever after I have a feel for what's even in this level
right now I keep running into places I'd love to access but have no idea how to without starting a firefight
but I haven't even touched the other half of the level yet
meanwhile me, a perfectionist on my first run of any game:
the entire point of Sifu is to use the ability to resurrect but here I am refusing to progress in the game unless I finish every single stage at the age of 20
basically a no-death run
I'm kinda that way too
but this is a game where you have to learn the levels before you can be a perfectionist about them
I can't just murder everyone in sight (or rather, it's because I lean towards perfectionism that I can't)
Sifu is exactly that way too
pretty much I just restart if I get a bad score/die once
after playing it through once of course
play it through once, learn the general layout and enemies, finish the level, and now do not progress until you've done a PERFECT run through the level

for example, right now I don't even know how I'd get to the rooftop in question
snek defeated
I wandered all over the parts of the building my disguise could get me too and couldn't find anyone isolated to get another disguise from or a pipe leading to that side of the roof
the one in the video?
yeah
no surprise a scientist disguise gets me up there, but I couldn't find a scientist I could safely subdue
(and I'm not watching the full video and spoiling myself lol)
I mean the whole third floor is off-limits even with my disguise to unlock the 2nd floor
I could get to a few rooms on the west side of that floor, but there were far too many people milling about to get to the other side unseen
yeah getting the scientist disguise requires some trickery
it's not super straight forward but it's hard to give hints or help without straight up saying what to do
np, I'd rather figure out as much as I can myself anyway
also right now I'm busy being the flamingo mascot
gee, I wonder if I could've killed Sierra using this thing had I been here when the race ended
you can probably kill your targets in pretty much any conceivable way you can think of
are you meeting up with her?
probably, that's the only plan I've got at the moment
though I'm also trying to explore every other place on the map so I find stuff like this
meeting up with her is probably the most simple and straightforward option of eliminating her
I can poison the trophy? lol
Can you?
it had a prompt
well... that's an option then
if I ever find lethal poison on this map
I don't know if Hitman 1-3 does this but I love how in Blood Money at the end of every mission you get a little newspaper describing the entire mission/murder and how the target dies
also if anyone sees you, depending on how much they see you, the newspaper details that too
it's super smart and I love it
I did appreciate the newspaper thing
if you go guns ablazing I think even pictures of you show up and pretty much everyone will notice you the next level which is awesome
before the new hitman games a lot of people loved Hitman 2 and say it was the best one but for me it was always Blood Money
it was the one I played all the time as a kid
...probably shouldn't have
but I'm sure the new Hitman games have taken the spot for best Hitman games
I think a long, long time ago I attempted to play one of the originals and just had no idea what to do and never got anywhere
even with Blood Money I had to look stuff up online all the time to make progress
The good part about it is that the answer to how to 'progress' can literally be anything considering how much freedom you get
I can't remember if I was ever fully stuck at some missions in that game
well yeah that's how fans of the series always phrase it
Podium Club Pass
I think I just found part of the answer to silent assassining this

all right, that's my first run of the level complete
feels like it'll take at least 2-3 runs before I feel like I've "seen it"
hit the man
oh man, God of War, I've seen like the first hour through of the game and uhh yeah
Game of the year
just absolutely unreal
no spoilers but yeah
I've seen through the first hour of the game rn
I wont talk about specific events yet
out of respect for well, the game just came out lol
Just do spoiler brackets
alright fine

Alright, it's that time of year again. Thanks to my workplace, I can get access to some EA games easily. In this case, I'll be getting three codes (though one is for me!) for https://store.steampowered.com/app/1846380/Need_for_Speed_Unbound/ 's Palace edition on Steam.
My usual thing is to offer these codes in exchange for something on my Steam wishlist, usually in the top 10-20. ( https://store.steampowered.com/wishlist/id/Tcher/#sort=order). I am good for this, I've done these exchange with many folks in the channel before. I recommend waiting for a Steam Sale to get the best deal too. Get something discounted from my wishlist to get an 80$ game
Poke me if you're interested.
(game won't be out until 2 december, I won't get the code until closer to that, but might as well ask folks now if they're interested)

as a side note, i like the fact that you just unlock the new skins/weapons without having to deal with the blueprint system, meaning you can just focus on enjoying the new content without having to spend a run or two dumping cells just to unlock a new skin
doesn't help for the content in the base game but it's the thought that counts!

I thought it was Terraria Otherworld but that game straight up never even came out lmao
the starbound ass grappling hook coulda been so fun
what ever happened to Starbound anyway
Star
it finished releasing
Terraria is on like it's 6th final update now lmao
i prefer the earlier patches of starbound\ by a long shot, they removed a lot of the complexity they added, and added a pretty bad story with some mediocre dungeons
terraria is just built different
True
I made it up
Why

I failed
it was easy, got it first try
fucking nice, atomic heart is unavailable in my region
Just pirate it
But I want to pay the creator
If they don't let you pay then you can't pay
You can pirate it now and when it's sold in your region buy it
when is atomic heart coming out?
february 21st
excited
you shouldn't be
in Russia it is gonna be sold only through VK play 💀
unless you are going to 🏴☠️ it
ayo, got that 15% chance

You don’t find Florida Man. Florida Man finds you.
and yet, Florida Man is sleeping with the fishes now

(he's fine, there just happened to be a perfect crate for hiding unconscious bodies on the pier itself)
all right then
now the real question is, can I even do suit only silent assassin on this level
at this point I could probably silent assassin any of the disguise "mission stories", but it seems like all of them require a disguise
I tend to prefer silent assassin with suit changes
yeah, in the tutorial there was little point in a disguise so that wasn't much of an added challenge
I just think the various disguises are a key part of what makes hitman fun so I only do suit only when I need an extra challenge
I'm leaning that way as well
but I want to at least think about whether there's a fun way to do this suit only
although so far I've got nothing but "look up where the speedrunners snipe from"
Oh no, you can do a lot by sneaking around
I very much recommend the Paris level from Hitman 1
probably in some levels, but this one I really don't see a way into anywhere non-public without a disguise
I'm not saying there isn't one, I'm saying I don't see it
Remember that you can knock people out, make sounds to lure them to places, climb on pipes to reacher higher floors
so either there's whole mechanics I'm missing out on, or key parts of the level design that somehow several hours of walking around didn't expose to me
And sometimes you can slip by when they're not looking
I know, there's several places where I did exactly that
it only goes so far in areas where every room has 2+ people in it
Every level is designed to be completely reachable with silent assassin suit only, as long as you pay close attention to the patrol schedules of everyone
If I recall correctly you can also find access cards or convince people to let you in
I did find the VIP access card, but so far that's the only one lying in an area I could get to undisguised, and not an area I can do a quiet kill in
should we make this more specific / should I start streaming so you can see where I'm stuck?
No bandwidth for streaming. I'm out on the east end of Riyadh
ok, so to keep things simple, let's talk Robert
he never leaves the upper floors of the expo building unless I sabotage the expo car or hijack the food stand, both of which require disguises
(the expo car technically doesn't require a disguise to sabotage and lure him down, but then I can't get anywhere near him afterward without one)
AFAICT the only entrance to the upper floors is a staircase with two stationary guards and a camera pointed on it at all times, which only lets you through if disguised as Mendez (or security I guess)
You can go to the security room and disable the cameras to get around the first one
the pipes that are on the building are for getting from level 2 to 3, which I played with a little but couldn't get very far
ok I never even found a "security room"
It's near the underground garages
I spent maybe half an hour looking for a camera recorder in my first run and it wasn't in any room I could get to
oh the garage security room
Yep!
Looks like you can bypass the guards too by doing a little bit of sneaking around
In this video we'll be covering the second HITMAN 2 mission completed Silent Assassin Suit only walkthrough of episode 2 in Miami mission 'The Finish Line'

Big thank you to Warner Bros for the free Early Access to HITMAN 2! #earlyaccessprovide...
You gotta hop up a wall next to the green cargo container
hang on I might've found a totally different route just now
hm, ok, I am technically on the second floor now
but the rooms connected to this one are way too open and filled with people to go into
I could just shoot Robert from here, but I'm pretty sure that'd fail "no bodies found" or something
If no one's with him you can shoot him then escape before he's found and it counts
gtk, that definitely won't work on this level though
ah, this player used a completely different entrance from the one I'm stuck in
man that is a lot of running through hallways that should be in several people's line of sight
Swiss cheese level design is great
I have no clue how he's getting away with that
Yeah, it can be surprising and timing based
ooooh that guy who's looking directly at me isn't alert enough to actually see me
Like a normal human
hm, it's really hard to tell what they'll let me get away with
ok I think I see what you mean, this is possible but I'd have to do a lot of trial and error to find a reliable route
You could save and reload
what did you think I was doing lol
ah-ha, there is a limit on how many bodies I can dump into one box
It's two per box
lol, I don't think Robert noticed his bodyguard's gone
Bodyguards aren't people
yep, there's soooo many guards between me and him on the 3rd floor it was literally faster to stay put on the 2nd floor balcony for 10 more minutes until he walked back
